Screw it, I'm going to try to write the Traveling Show AU story because the idea of knife thrower Nil is stuck in my head.

Maybe the other ideas as well.

More Avad x Nil AU story ideas, because I can't help myself.

Avad gets kidnapped by bandits:

Avad is on some kind of pr tour outside of Meridian and gets ambushed and captured by bandits. They bring him to their camp which turns out to be the very same location that Nil has chosen as his next target. So Nil comes rushing in, kills the bandits and saves the king in distress. Avad doesn’t really know how to survive in the wilds on his own or how to get safely back to Meridian, so he wants Nil to take him to the next outpost. Playing bodyguard is usually not Nil’s thing, but he agrees anyway because, well, Avad is hot. When they have to camp for the night, there's only one bedroll and they have to cuddle for warmth, and no one would know if they just smooch a bit, right? What happens in the wilds, stays in the wilds...

Traveling Show:

Avad and/or Nil are part of an Oseram traveling show.

Avad is fed up with living in a golden cage as prince/king and runs away to join the circus which is on the way to their new gig in Hidden Amber where a certain group of Gauntlet Runners are among the audience and Nil is instantly enarmored with Avad's performace. I'm not sure what Avad would do, maybe some kind of acrobatic dance on the trapeze or since fire-eaters are a thing in Meridian, maybe he'd do that.

Alternative, it's Nil who's part of the circus and he works as a knife thrower in the best Gomez Addams style (come on, Nil is definitely an Addams, if not by blood then definitely by heart... and now I can’t stop thinking about him ambushing bandit camps while snapping his fingers to the Addams Family theme).

When the circus comes to Meridian to perform for the new Sun-King, Nil asks Avad to be his assistent in the show, giving Marad and everyone else in the audience a heartattack when he starts throwing knives at the king, while Avad is very much turned on by Nil's skills.

Avad in the Forbidden West:

Kadaman didn't die (but was wounded and lost his memory for a while or something like that), so Avad steps down for his big bro to take over as king while Avad goes to pursuit his dreams of traveling. He either joins the GAIA gang and goes with Aloy and co. west or he's part of the Embassy and ends up getting captured by Regalla's rebels. He manages to escape, runs into Nil and to hide from the Tenakth he joins Nil's racing squad.

When Avad is disguised as a Carja noblewoman and fleeing with Ersa, they get separated and Avad ends up stumbling into Nil while on the run from the guards. They do the Fake-Out Make-Out to prevent Avad from getting caught and get a bit carried away...

The Beauty of Horizon Forbidden West

Kotallo really likes to call Aloy and make her do Marshal stuff, but it's really cute how he always opens with "Aloy, it's Kotallo" for no reason and his voice often gets a bit shy when asking her or suggesting to do stuff.

When he gushed so much about the food in Salt Bite, it's not just because he loves the food himself but also because he wanted to take Aloy there on a date, right?

The next call would be like "Aloy, it's Kotallo. Have you stopped by Salt Bite and tried the fantastic food there yet? If not, perhaps we can go together..."

Why else talk so excitedly about it, like he was basically radio advertising the place to Aloy? Of course he wouldn't call it a date but a mission or just a Marshal and his Commander flying off on her Sunwing to grab a bite. Nothing more to see here.

And the talk about training in the Arena feels like a callback to the sparring flirtations talks they had. He absolutely wanted to see her fight machines in the Arena and who can blame him since he missed seeing her fight the Slitherfang at the Kulrut?
