Some more dragons
To give more context to people! Yes this story sounds very silly but I was trying to make things work with the tons of headcanons I have lol
Geno (sky/ice), Fresh(rain/ice), and Error(night/ice) are all half-brothers (they share the same mother who is now dead) They live in the rainforest together between the Nightwing and Rainwing territories
Geno is sickly and often needs a scarf or blankets to make him feel warmer. He sustained injuries to an attack to the rainforest and Error found out he was an animus by wishing his brother to stay alive
Fresh is a very clever hybrid who can change the colors of his scales but not as well as full Rainwings. He tends to stay either bright colors mixed with his original white
Error learned he was an animus after an attack on the rainforest, he's best friends with Ink despite always getting mad at the happy-go-lucky rainwing (Error is cousins with Cross but that'll like never get brought up or found out by any of them)
Ink is just a regular Rainwing but is friends with the hybrids out of the village so people thing he's a little funky. He's an artist through and through and Error gives him a giant brush that makes his drawings come to life using his animus powers
Dream and Nightmare are both twin Nightwing/Sandwing princes (Nightmare got bullied too hard for being a "bastard prince" even though Dream is also one) Both are empaths and can feel other's emotions!
A massacre happens in the Sandwing Kingdom when the royal family (trying to stay pure) tries to kill Nightmare when Dream isn't around. Nightmare escapes, angry that his brother got better treatment than him, while killing many other dragons in the process
Blue is a royal Seawing guard in training even though his parents wanted him to be a cook and Red is a Skywing who is captive by the queen since he was experimented on by his father (scientist)
Reaper is an outcasted Nightwing due to accidentally killing people with just a touch (animus curse by xgaster) He uses it to his advantage with his Nightwing powers by being able to prophecy someone’s future or find parts of their past. He is known as this Reaper judge that gets sent for when giant disputes happen and the Queens of the tribes need to figure out who to punish. When he meets Geno, who is also animus touched to not die, Reaper is fascinated that he is able to touch Geno
The broad animus stuff is due to Xgaster (Nightwing who is part of a split tribe situation with eviler Nightwings lol) trying experiments on Nightwing eggs to make their dragonets stronger. I imagine its a group still like wanting to be better than every other tribe and resides in the old Nightwing palace
Cross is a Nightwing who is gonna stop his dad in the big storyline
MURDER TRIO! All of them are dragons that were outcasted and seen as incompetent or needed a home. They pledged their allegiance to the Sandwing prince Nightmare and promised to help him take the throne.
Dust is an animus prince in the Icewing tribe that went crazy after killing his siblings, he tends to be calm but becomes crazed easily and can kill easily with his powers (although he tends not to use them anyways and is just a very good fighter). He created a cloak to calm himself down and he tends to keep it over himself. He actually ran away because the judge (Reaper) was going to be sent to their tribe
Killer is a Rainwing that was captured and trained to fight in the now shut down Skywing arena. He was used as target practice for his changing scales and they even burned a target onto his chest so they'd always be able to see him even when his scales changed
Horror is a bigwings who watched all his sibs die during a famine in the Mud kingdom (due to drought). Older Mudwings tried to kill him for being a waste of space but he escaped and joined Nightmare.

more royal dragons, this time the ones from arc 2/3! these were really fun, and the previous designs helped me get comfortable with more detailed jewelry designs, so these are a bit more extravagant.
design notes under the cut!
RUBY: i didn't realize how young she really is when i read escaping peril the first time, i thought she was in her mid-twenties at least but apparently she's only 12/17? wild. anyways i made her ruby red with some orange accents to point to tourmaline. her tiara is meant to look like laurels, studded with rubies, and the gems on her brows and wings are citrine.
GLORY: i already had a design for her, i just touched it up a bit here. she's very pretty, but her scales are notably duller than my other rainwing designs. she has pouches she wears around her neck because she likes to be prepared and is trying to connect more to her culture. at least one of those pockets has snacks for silver. the flower on her ear is a plumeria india, one of my favorite flowers.
THORN: easily my favorite design in the set, oh my god i love how she came out. she has the same colors as my sunny design but desaturated, and almost the same markings. her jewelry is mostly gold with onyx and lapis lazuli insets. the design for the eye of onyx is inspired by @dragonsndoodles's design, which looks absolutely gorgeous and way more elegant than the graphic novel version.
SNOWFALL: i think i made her too round and soft-looking? idk i think she's cute though. i definitely had to get those pale sunset colors in there, and she has similar colors/markings to glacier. the tiara is one she found in the treasury after the racism crown™ was destroyed, and the shawl was a gift from luna as a thanks for helping her tribe. silk doesn't help much against the cold, but it sure is pretty.
WASP: SCARY BITCH. i had to mess with her colors a lot, i wanted to make her kinda greenish with red accents but it just was NOT working. i do like where i ended up though. i don't know that she would wear much jewelry, probably more armor than anything else, but i wanted to do hivewing jewelry so here we are. the neck piece was really fun to design. these are steel and gold with amber and peridot accents, and the cape is silk with gold embroidery. i have this headcanon of her having breath of evil growing out of her like a cordyceps fungus, and she uses the cape to cover the tendrils on her back.
SEQUOIA: ooo she was a challenge, i'm not great at designs with a lot of green or a lot of dark colors so she was fun. her colors are inspired by @daily-wof-designs, and the brown tones were pulled from pictures of giant sequoias. she wears braided leather straps hung with aquamarine, and the scarf might be silk? or some kind of natural fiber? i'm not sure. but it has leaf designs and is probably batik dyed (which is super cool btw look it up)

Since people really liked This post I made of my silly little ideas on how Peacemaker still has these little hints of Darkstalker in him, I decided, yeah, I'll throw out my other, more specific ones! Why not. I'm free
Peacemaker's a VERY charming little lad! At first to everyone else this was really cute, why, they just wanna gobble him up! He's such a big dork who always knows just the right things to say, it's probably why most dragonets get along with him so well! His mother isn't so thrilled, though. Her son is quite charming, isn't he? A little too purposeful with his words. A well-placed compliment, seemingly giving up on a subject he's now implanted into someones head, a casual comment that sounded too detailed to be thought of on the spot. He's never malicious (or, at least, nothing more than annoying when dealing with rather rude dragons), but it makes Hope paranoid to know that, well, they never truly erased Darkstalker's personality. That little dragon is still in there. And that boy could talk the very queen off her throne if he was just given enough time. He's not a big, stupid brute. He never was. And he knows it.
He's far from guilt-free. In fact he's usually the kid encouraging troublesome behavior. When he's little it's usually nothing more than stealing some extra strawberries or rallying a few RainWing dragonets to melt a wall so they could listen in on adult conversations Moon seemed to have a lot. But it gets a little concerning as he ages. Pushing dragons to use their abilities for whatever they wanted, because it was their powers, they should use it as they deem fit! He didn't get why older dragons scolded him when the new NightWings born under the moons kept reading everyones private thoughts or RainWings would sneak away for long periods of time who-knows-where after they got good at camouflage. He wasn't bothered by it, why should everyone else? It's not like it would turn them evil or anything.
He's very good with younger dragonets! When he was little it got him a lot of friends, and a way for the younger generations of RainWings and NightWings to connect, literally and metaphorically through their shared hybrid! When he was a little older, it made him a popular village babysitter, especially since he was really good with dragonets that had different or specific needs. He was particularly encouraging of the new NightWing dragonets being born with powers due to being under the moons again. Parents were relieved he wasn't weirded out or jealous, just quietly listening to them talk and offering advice they found oddly very helpful, even more than Moon's.
On that note, he was so excited when the SilkWings showed up! Sure, the new dragons were really weird, and he'd never seen ones without wings, but that was okay! Flying wasn't really needed in the rainforest, anyway, maybe they'd be even better! He was one of the first dragonets to openly walk up to the new kids, and he asked a lot of questions, but he was generally quite curious and super proud to boast about his home, friends, and, of course, himself. Eventually he got along with little LeafWings and HiveWings as well, particularly Bumblebee, although...he was rather twitchy when he heard about the HiveWings ancestor Clearsight, how she loved an old version of them, creating the tribe that is today. Odd.
The only thing dragons will consistently say is unnerving about him, aside from how many find him intimidating on size and shape from a distance, is his eyes. Nothing inherently odd about them, they just look like dark, silvery NightWing eyes. But everyone always swears theres something off about them. Like they were placed in the wrong head. Uncanny. Eyes, they say, that feel like they belonged on someone much older, and far sadder. Everyone in the rainforest says that, at least. If you asked that IceWing by the mountain Peacemaker and his friends picked berries from, she'd swear his eyes weren't sad. They were enraged. Compared only to the soldiers she fought in the War of the SandWing Succession, compacted together on the face of a young, smiling dragonet.

Old moodboards (like, 2020, possibly older) I did for every modern Rainwing Queen, as I like to link them to the seven sins
(The base fills were done by me but I could not for the love of me find every origin to every image used)
Tumblr media
Grandeur is Sloth
Her giving up on her tribe is her biggest flaw, she threw away all of her people's future over her daughters not wanting the throne or not being "worthy" but then gives them shitty queens anyway, I love Grandeur but that was bad
Magnificent is Pride
Pretty obvious, she refused to help then acted surprised when someone offered to do her job correctly, could have been a more evil or interesting villain tho
Tumblr media
Dazzling is Greed
Maybe one I would change today, her appearance in the book points her more towards Gluttony but also she took the fruits for herself even when it was dangerous for her place at the top of the hierarchy to do so, very politicians being caught stealings taxe funds type of thing
Tumblr media
Exquisite is Gluttony
Even back then I was NOT happy putting the only fat girl as the representative for Gluttony but honestly, asside from her cheating, she was winning that race, all that energy came from one place, food.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Splendor is Wrath
This is purely headcanon on my part but, I kind of think that after being saved from the Volcano, her sadness over her tribe and fellow queens not searching for her despite her being a ruller turned into rage, she's now snappy toward most dragons, especially her ex friends, I think I headcanoned her possibly being Magnificent's sister or a girlfriend to one of the queens
Tumblr media
Fruit Bat is Lust
Look ... I tried. She was the only one that somehow fitted, with her being obsessed with perfume and better ways to perfume scales for a longer time, maybe to attract others ? She's linked to flowers and scent, stuff that could be love-coded but turned and twisted to fit what she wants them to be.
Tumblr media
Glory is Envy
It may be partially because of that artist and their own rendition of the seven royal sins (but with every tribe rather than only rainwings) but Glory always seemed like she desired so much, having once had nothing. She's the only one to not have a quote in link to her sin because the one here represents her better in my opinion ...
So yeah I am cleaning my galery, couldn't you tell ?

AU idea time!
So this one is a bit tough to explain but, rain-Ice swap, not geographical or physically but more so mentality. In this AU rainwings are the origin of Animus magic which changes a few things early on, firstly, Arctic, he still gets with Foeslayer but with no reaction from either side as he is not an animus, then Darkstalker and Whiteout are born, Darkstalker and Whiteout actually live happily, until a evil Rainwing-Nightwing hybrid with Animus magic attempts to destroy everything making them all run away, for simple reasons, we'll call this hybrid Warmaker. Another change, Clearsight stays with Darkstalker, although she still saves the other continent, but that means no Hivewings at least not as we know them. Next, Albatross, he isn't as dull in color, in fact he is bright, this changes things a bit as he isn't bullied as many see his scales as beautiful, so Albatross just keeps teaching Fathom until news of the evil hybrid animus comes. Then years later, sandwing succession, Rainwings side with Blaze due to their queen liking her (Her dragonets also like her as a second mom, including Glory), the icewings are considered lazy, weak and powerless as they have been hiding in their cold kingdom, not bothering with training, guarding or anything besides keeping their tribe mates alive because who would be dumb enough to try and attack them in the cold of the icewing kingdom? Anyways, instead of getting frost burn in her throat, Queen Battlewinner is scarred to the point of near death by Rainwing venom, and the nightwings plan to take over the Icewing kingdom, cause they are weak. Prophecy goes wrong and they have to replace the skywing with a Icewing named Snowfall. Also nightwings are natural more resistant to the cold due to Arctic and Foeslayer. Moonwatcher, she is slightly more powerful as the snow reflected the light of the moons onto her far better.
I'll let you all continue the rest.

nightwing lore fascinates me so much and it slays so bad I think. here I go Watch out .
so insane to me that long long long ago they lived on the mainland, took their eggs to high points of the kingdom to hatch to be close to the moon so they could get their magic powers, and operated nocturnally. these were integral to their tribe identity. then darkstalker shows up and scares everyone SO SO SO SO fucking bad with all his magic powers and nonexistent conscience etc that they pack up, leave their southern, utopian peninsula kingdom, and collectively run the hell away to a volcanic island north of the continent. there they waste away for years and years and years until the volcano becomes active, the environment contaminated, the sky barely visible through the shitty air quality, and thus their nocturnal tendencies are muddled and their powers don't manifest anymore. and they almost NEVER visit the mainland—dragonets aren't even allowed to leave the island until they're 10 years old.
this goes on so long that whether the powers were ever real is obscured to them, they don't remember living on the peninsula, and by the time the original series begins the entire tribe is in such a horrifying crisis of general quality of life that they decide to do something evil about it. they carefully craft a prophecy that the other tribes they're so cut off from still believe they're capable of, and use it as their main ploy to STEAL another tribe's home—literally plan wipe the rainwings out of the entire ecosystem. they've been so corrupted by their environment that's trying to kill them and their isolation from other tribes and their fucked up superiority complex from keeping everyone else convinced that they have powers when for all they know that was bs in the first place that they're like aw shoot yeah. let's just wipe out this other useless tribe and move in. perfect.
AND THEN that tribe mysteriously gets on top of their shit at the VERY last minute, 10+ years later. they do this with the help of the kids that prophecy foretold, the ones that in theory were supposed to be under these superior nightwings' thrall and basically carry out the middle stage of the plan. instead of doing their jobs they say fuck you and revolt, discovering the plans and stopping the rainwing genocide but bringing all the nightwings through into the rainforest anyways because living on a volcano is just fucking sad. and as punishment for their evil plans and other transgressions the nightwings are forced to accept the rainwing queen as their ruler too, as a condition of their salvation. the setup for the move ends up saving them, but the fake prophecy from their original evil plan, in the end, brings about the plan's destruction. and of course they get their divine comeuppance of being ruled by the tribe they planned to wipe out. this isn't even GETTING INTO darkstalker's catastrophic return, or even moon's hatching where they rediscover the moons thing after who knows how many centuries. it's so so so interesting to me the long game that's happened to them it's so fun to think about

tried out glaze on one of my art pieces! the website sure did warn me that it messes with flat artwork a little more but good Lord. it looks like i put a crinkled paper filter over my drawing 😭
I used the default and fastest settings on glaze, so maybe if I used different settings it would fix it. Idk idk.
if my art just ends up looking like this every time I use glaze, so be it. anything to ruin an ai bro’s day lmao
here’s the art piece:
Tumblr media
It doesn’t look horrible.. I think it sort of works for this particular drawing, maybe. Idk idk
Ermmmm anyway here’s a Rainwing OC, she was created using the google doc dragon randomizer that Honeybeest made.
I don’t have all the details of the story worked out yet, but it also involves six of my other dragon OCs. They’re all Rainwing hybrids, the eggs in the drawing are theirs, before they hatched :)
Also, this isn’t connected to the Breath Of Evil from books 11-15, the green eyes are a coincidence lol

Oh boy do I have my *hot* take(s) :)
Sunny should've gotten (better) princess treatment
Nightwings should've allied with the Icewings and then betrayed them in the climax of the war(when one or two of the sisters keel)
Glory should've been more fiery like Tsunami and not played into the 'lazy rainwing' troupe, and shouldn't have had her heritage discovered the way it was/if at all
Morrowseer was (mostly) right to act the way he did
Darkstalker shouldn't have been so *teehee nobody knows I'm evil except for one convenient dragon*
Sending the *Icewing* Talons of Peace member for a skywing egg was actually the worst decision(from the prologue in book 1 iirc)
Scavengers should've pulled off another big stunt in the first/second arc, maybe not killing a queen, but somebody important and framing it on a dragon to ignite the post-/war
Starflight should've been a hybrid (preferably 1/4 or 1/2 icewing for *drama*)
Blister is the coolest but worst sister and deserved to suffer more losses(maybe having someone close to her die)(if she could've had actual friends to begin with)
More sandwings should've become outraged at Thorn (particularly Burn followers)(bc they're already kinda kookoo)
Kestrel should've lived longer even though her end was a badass plot twist
Ruby's story was so foolish, no one could possibly be that ditzy except maybe Blaze
Dream visitors (dreams) should've been more chaotic and been harder to reach the dragons conscious
Dream visitors should've failed at least once in a daze of forgetting dreams or "nah that's not real" but sparking paranoia in those trying to forget, so much that it leads them to foil someone's plans, (like scarlet and the assassin stuff)(it fails anyway "but I didn't believe it to begin with" ...)
Corals sons should've absolutely despised her and helped the DoD
A dragon should've escaped Scarlets towering prisons and rebelled with a few skywing traitors and failed; to raise tensions and lower the others hopes, to make the DoDs escape more fulfilling (cause the nightwings robbing starflight for the night was too anticlimactic)(also some skywing guard[or crazed prisoner like gills but not him] should've tried to fight the nightwings)
Webs should've died over Dunes
Masterminds whole jig was kinda based (expiramenting bad and all yeah but it was done really well)(like the telling of it all not like he did the expiraments well)
Battle winners daughter is super lame, there should've been an attempted assassination on her as revenge for something either Battlewinner did or bc some nightwing just didn't like her)
Grandeur should've been really into cooking or just big fancy ass feasts
Moorhen should've had a big tragic background or beef with Glacier( or both, having Moorhens best closest family/friend murked by the icewings and she doesn't know why)
Coral should've been more clingy to Tsunami
The false DoD shouldn't have been so lively as if they weren't treated like the second option their whole lives
Tear me to pieces. I actually wanna see how bad they are, I'm sure I've also got more lying around, though I should probably reread the books I have so I can both find more wack takes, adjust my headcanons & smthn else I forgot as I was about to write just now
[I've basically only read the first 10ish and only own like 12 books, I was waiting to get the last 3 before reading the next arc]
Hoping I got these right as *takes* and not like theorizing or smthn
Also so sorry omg this is so long
Oh boy time to Read Alla Dat.
Oh I love NightWing/IceWing drama. That's a cool idea
Morrowseer is a cool villain and he doesn't get the attention he deserves. I love him so much. He's one of, if not the best villain in the series.
Absolutely genius move. Now Hvitur's dead. Thanks Nautilus.
The thing with scavengers to me is that they aren't inherently a bad idea. I actually think it's pretty cool to have humans be seen as a pest of sorts by these intelligent dragons. I would've loved if scavengers were more involved, albeit not in a "We are living creatures too and deserve to not be eaten-" shut up you walking strip of beef jerky and let me chew on your bones.
OhohOHOHOHOhh!! I like that idea! Hybrid Starflight's cool..
Blister was literally the Worst queen by far. I literally cannot imagine anybody making a good argument for her at all.
Imagine a gang leader becoming the queen after a 20 year war lmao. I'd be pissed to all hell.
I'm Diseased over the word "foolish" here. I'm in love. I can't think of any other way to describe her now. Ruby is just a foolish creature.
GOD I WISH DREAM VISITORS WERE COOL LIKE THAT!! GRAHHHHH I WANNA WRITE ABOUT THEM NOW!! I love the idea of dreams and playing around with them. I love the idea of a character seeing somebody who's trying to tell them: "Hey I'm the real person and you're in a dream" and going: "Uh-huh yeah right buddy". My dreams are kinda wacky and I think it would be fun to take inspiration from the particularly labyrinth-like places I sometimes get thrown into, with corridors that lead into other places past and Dream Logic comes into play. Dreams are so cool man...
Regional Webs hater here. Hard agree. I love Dune. Dune is the Guy of all time and I love him with all my heart. Webs deserves to never have his name be uttered ever.
Mastermind IS silly in my mind. I need to have at least one chaotic sciencey type who is perfectly willing to experiment on people. Mastermind is just that. What a guy. I wish he wasn't trapped in the Pit for all of time though.
Greatness is such wasted potential it hurts oh my god.
Grandeur grows pot.
Ohhhhhhh OOOHhHHhhHH I love that idea,,,
Literally if I was in Fatespeaker's position I too would be hopeless and miserable. I think she's just coping with it in a certain way that I can't really comprehend.

Things Are Not Always What They Seem
Chapter 4
Word count: 2139
Summary: A dragonet, Ray, tries to be more important that whom they are and gets way in over their head. They get involved with everything from pirates and evil queens, to buried secrets lost to the sands of time.
Will she get out of the storm and finally live a normal life, or will the world of dragons crush her?
_________________________________
Ray flopped onto the bed Queen Newt had given them. They were tired from walking around a whole castle and their head hurt from all that they learned. They were tempted to sleep but it wasn’t nearly late enough for her to be sleeping. She could find Caiman and talk to them, but that would likely drag them into a conversation with one of the other siblings. Not a great idea as they seemed to have something against her.
Ray jumped when their door was opened and a MudWing peeked in, not one of the siblings and not Queen Newt, but a scrawny, one-eyed MudWing with a platter of nothing? They blinked in surprise when their eye landed on Ray. They tried to exit but Ray spoke up.
“What are you doing?” Ray asked.
“O-oh I was looking for the kitchen, but I’m new so I couldn’t find it,” they said, “anyways, I have a better question, what are you doing? Are you a diplomat? Did you break in?”
“No. I’m allowed to be here, although I’m not really sure why I am here,” Ray said, before adding, “also I’m a little young to be a diplomat?”
“How would I know? I don’t see many dragons besides MudWings and some RainWings,” they said, shrugging, “so do you know where the kitchen is? I need to find it before Boss Man gets mad at me again.”
“Uhh yeah, Probably? Queen Newt showed me around a little bit ago,” Ray said.
“Great, come on, you can lead,” they said. They proceeded to open the door enough for Ray to walk through, “you can go first, buddy.”
Ray walked ahead of the MudWing who followed behind them as she tried to lead the way to the kitchen. Keyword being tried, Ray ended up getting lost and in turn the dragon they were lading was now lost too. They seemed to pick up on that.
“Uhh, buddy? You sure you know where you’re going? I’m pretty sure we were in this hallway five minutes ago,” they said, sounding confused.
“I thought I did, but maybe not? There is a lot of castle,” Ray said.
“Dang, Boss Man is definitely going to be mad at me,” they said, “I hope I don’t get fired day one of my job.”
“I’m sure you won’t, it’s day one, right?” Ray asked.
“It’s an apprenticeship in the MudWing castle, it’s hard to get and hard to keep,” they explained.
“There you two are,” came Gharial's voice, “Ray, mother wants you for dinner, and you, Cypress, were supposed to be in the kitchen an hour ago, Gums is pissed. What have you two been up to?”
“Sorry Princess we were just-” Cypress started.
“We were lost,” Ray interrupted, “Cypress couldn’t find the kitchen so I tried to help but we got lost.”
Gharial stared at Ray for a minute, eyes narrowed before speaking, “alright then. Come on you two, I’ll lead you two to the dining room, then Cypress, Gums will take you back to the kitchen, you will accept what punishment is given.”
“I understand Princess Gharial,” Cypress said, dipping their head in respect.
“Yes Princess Gharial,” Ray said, copying Cypress.
And as such the princess led Ray and Cypress through the castle and to the Dining hall, before the door was opened Gharial spoke again, “now I do hope Mother taught you how to act, because if I see you eating like a scavenger, only The God Lotus could help you.”
“Yep, she taught me how to act, don’t worry about me,” Ray said.
“Good. Now let us enter,” Gharial said, before opening the doors, “mother I located the SeaWing, I also found Cypress for Gums.”
“Thank you Princess Gharial,” said a dragon, presumably Gums. They were an older dragon, larger and more scared up than Queen Newt. They walked up to the three of them, towering over all of them, “now Cypress, where were you? I thought you could take this seriously. Your mum said you’s was good despite your issues.”
“Sorry Boss Man- I mean Sir. I just got lost. This was my first time here so I didn’t know the castle layout,” Cypress explained, “I swear my ‘issues’ didn’t affect this.”
“Bad excuse, you could have asked a guard,” Gums said, “you know, back in my day, Playa would have-”
“Gums you’re rambling, if you must lecture Cypress, take it to the kitchen, we’d like to eat,” Gharial interrupted.
“Yeah yeah, you young royals are so rude, Queen Newt you’s ought to keep them in line, like how Queen Copper did wit’ you,” Gums said.
“That’s enough Gums, you can leave, you can leave my Mother out of this,” Queen Newt said, smile strained.
“Alright Queen Newt,” Gums said before grabbing Cypress’ shoulder, “come on, Cypress. We’re going to have a talk.”
Ray watched as the both watched out, and noticed the Royal Family visibly relaxed. Ray had no idea what had just gone down but she clearly couldn’t ask. It would be bad timing, it was also probably not something they’d share based on how they were acting. Queen Newt gestured for Ray and Gharial to sit down at the table.
“Welp, that wasn’t a conversation that I wanted to watch,” Alligator said.
“Mom, when will you finally replace Gums?” Gharial asked, clearly annoyed by Gums’ comment, “he keeps doing this.”
“Probably not for a while, he’s our only chef aside from Cypress,” Queen Newt said, “so we have to wait for Cypress to be old enough to take over.”
“Thank Lotus for Cypress, I thought that old dragon would never take an apprentice,” Crocodile said.
“He wouldn’t have, but I told him it was either that or get more staff,” Queen Newt said, “because the last thing I want is to die before he leaves that kitchen.”
Everyone around the table snickered besides Ray, who was still pretty confused. She picked up that they didn’t like Gums and that was it. The conversation ended when Caiman piped up.
“Mooom when can we eat? I’m hungry,” the dragonet yelled.
“Manners, Caiman, we’ve had this talk,” Queen Newt said, “but yes, you can all eat.”
So they all started eating, Ray taking extra care to not piss off Gharial who was sitting right beside her. It wasn’t the greatest (everyone else seemed to agree) but Ray had long learned to appreciate food. They hadn’t actually said much of anything since entering the room. At some point Caiman decided to address them.
“Hey Ray,” Caiman started, mouth full.
“Watch it Caiman,” Gharial hissed, “you’ll get food on me.”
Caiman swallowed and continued, undeterred by their sister, “what was the SeaWing kingdom like? How was it growing up as a SeaWing?”
“Huh? Well it was okay, didn’t have to deal with gravity all of the time. Uhh school was annoying, everything was difficult and also way too focused on Queen Coral’s literature. Dragon language classes were annoying too, we had to swim up to the surface every time it came around,” Ray explained, “Everything always looked super nice though, we got a lot of architects.”
“Huh, I forgot you SeaWings speak another language,” Crocodile said, “what was it called.”
“Aquatic, Crocodile,” Gharial said, “you really need to pay attention in your classes.”
“Why do I need to learn about a language I can’t speak? I’d rather learn Talons, The Old Pantalan Language, or hell even Scavenger! At least I could speak those!” Crocodile argued.
“Crocodile, watch it, that’s rude,” Queen Newt said.
“So?? Gharial has been rude to Ray this whole time, yell at her!” Crocodile said, talon pointed at his sister.
“Oh go eat slime,” Gharial hissed.
“Okay everyone, hush up,” Queen Newt said loudly, grabbing everyone’s attention, “Gharial, quit being so rude to Ray and you siblings, and Crocodile, same goes to you. We’ll have a proper talk after we eat.”
“Good job Crocodile,” Alligator said, tone snarky.
“Watch it, Alligator,” Queen Newt said.
The rest of the meal was silent. With everyone either being pissed off or awkward, it didn’t make good atmosphere for a conversation. After a bit everyone finished eating and Cypress came in and took the dishes to the kitchen.
Queen Newt got up, “welp, I think it’s time to talk, Crocodile, Gharial, come on. Everyone else is free to do whatever they want.”
Ray watched as Queen Newt, Gharial, and Crocodile left the room to talk. If you had asked them what they thought the MudWing royal family was like, it wouldn’t have been this. Ray looked at Alligator and Caiman. Alligator was getting up to leave while Caiman was just staring at the table.
Ray watched as Alligator walked up to Caiman before they spoke, “Caiman are you okay?”
“I’m fine Alli,” Caiman said, their tone clipped.
“Alright Caiman, I’ll take your word for it,” Alligator said before walking out.
“You said you wanted to show me your room?” Ray asked, trying to change the topic.
“… fine,” Caiman said.
And so both dragons got up and went to Caiman’s room to hang out. · ·· · Ray lay in bed, wide awake. Ray had hung out with Caiman until Gharial and Crocodile got back and Ray decided to leave. Afterwards she had gone to sleep, tired from the day.
But now, it was the middle of the night, and Ray had woken up after a nightmare. Of what she couldn’t remember. She just knew she wouldn’t sleep anytime soon. She got out of her bed and left the room. She wanted to see the stars and her room was bad for that.
It was an hour before she found a good enough balcony to just sit at and think. About the day and about everything else. Like her stupid wish to not be a background character. Why did she even have it? It was so stupid, being out of the background got her stuff like this. Taken away from her friends into a kingdom she didn’t belong to with dragons who didn’t like her for the most part.
“SeaWing, what are you doing up?” came Gharial’s voice.
Of course she would be here, “what do you want Gharial?”
“I could ask you the same, Ray,” Gharial shot back, “you barge into our life with lies about my mother wanting me and my siblings and somehow she basically adopts you? How does that happen, because I know life isn’t that generous.”
“I have no idea how it happened. I could never have expected something like this,” Ray said, not wanting to talk about their stupid way of thinking.
“Well let’s start with, what were you trying to do?” Gharial asked, “because I don’t usually see dragons lie without reason.”
“Do I have to speak? It’s stupid and I don’t want to hear it,” Ray said.
“I get it, we all have our stupid reasons, even I do,” Gharial said.
“You never answered my original question,” Ray asked
“I was up because I heard talon steps, and I am far from a light sleeper, so I wanted to see who was up,” Gharial explained, “now you answer my original question.”
Ray sighed, “nightmare.”
“Are they frequent?” Gharial asked, concerned.
“Not really, maybe once in a while but that’s it,” Ray asked.
“Be glad, frequent nightmares are really bad,” Gharial said.
“You get them?” Ray asked.
“No, Mother does, has for a while,” Gharial said, “she won’t say it but I can tell.”
“Your mom is nice…” Ray said simply.
“Yeah, she tries to be better than her mother,” Gharial said.
“Queen Copper? From what I heard, she was a great Queen,” Ray said.
“That’s because you weren’t family,” Gharial stated, “if you were family, she was your biggest fear.”
“Huh,” Ray said, “I get what you mean. I never really feared my parents I mean, but they weren’t fun to be around if you were me.”
“At least you’re away from them,” Gharial said.
“Didn’t expect that from you,” Ray said.
“Fair, although for what it’s worth, I would like to apologize,” Gharial said, looking Ray in the eyes as best as they could, “I shouldn’t have treated you like that. It was wrong.”
“This is because of Queen Newt’s talk isn’t it?” Ray said.
“Yes and no,” Gharial said, “Mother’s talk screwed my head on straight, but it was my decision to apologize.”
“It’s alright Gharial, it wasn’t… that bad,” Ray said.
“You’re too nice,” Gharial said, smiling, “anyways you should go to your room, you need sleep, you’re younger than me.”
"Not that young," Ray argued.
"Mhm sure. Then be a grown up and go to sleep," Gharial said, elbowing Ray.
“Alright mom,” Ray said, rolling their eyes before walking away from Gharial and to her room to sleep.
“Don’t call me that!” Gharial shouted after them.

Tell me about the dragons please! ~Betelgeuse
Okay, you're going to have to be more specific, there are a LOT of dragons floating around in my blog. So many that the place is practically Dave and Busters. But I'll give it a shot.
My two main dragon fandoms are The Legend of Spyro and Wings of Fire.
The Legend of Spyro is essentially Lord of The Rings/Silmarillion but with Dragons, with the cosmic balance of light and dark being a focus and a ton of very important and dubiously canon lore never spoken of in game. The protag, Spyro, is the prophesied purple dragon who can wield all the elements and defeat The Dark Master/Malefor, who was locked in a Superhell dimension called Convexity for being too power-hungry. This is where Cynder comes in. Cynder and Spyro were part of a massive group of eggs destined to be born in the Year of the Dragon, meaning they could not only open superhell and free the Dark Master, but could defeat him too. Because dragon eggs are very important (and because dragons are presumably K-selected as hell, as they can live well beyond 200 years according to one developer's headcanon), the eggs were protected by four old gay dads: The Guardians. Ignitus is the sad orange one, Volteer is the ADHD yellow one, Cyril is the blue snooty one, and Terrador is the practical green one.
Anyway, the eggs all got massacred, except for Spyro, whose father figure/very probably father sent him down the river where he was adopted by dragonflies, and Cynder, who was eggnapped by the Dark Armies forces and exposed to dark energy to turn her into a giant adult dragon. Cynder then went on to massacre most of the dragon population. Anyway, Spyro and his adopted dragonfly brother Sparx went on to get into shenanigans and eventually free Cynder from her corruption through the power of Spyro's space radiation breath, Aether. Aether is the true element of the purple dragons and is the element all other elements come from. Cynder got turned back into a young dragon, though she ran off from the temple she, Spyro, Sparx and the Guardians were hiding out in because she had PTSD and was quite possibly being influenced by dark powers.
Anyway, some shenanigans on a pirate ship and an ancient library later, Spyro faced off against Malefor's top general, Gaul, the Ape King. Spyro accidentally got corrupted when a beam of tainted moonlight due to a lunar eclipse touched him while they were fighting and awoke his Super Powered Evil Side: DARK SPYRO. O No!
Anyway, Spyro killed Gaul, but whoops! The mountain is falling on them all! Using some time magic he got from the old librarian, Spyro froze himself, Sparx, and Cynder in a crystal to live to fight another day.
I'm getting tired, but let's just say the series ended with Cynder and Spyro fighting Malefor and saving the world after Malefor trying to break apart.
Very 2000's. Very grimdark. Very Evanescence. I love it so.
Wings of Fire is a novel series written by Tui T. Sutherland starting in 2012. The dragons from this series have fancy scale patterns unique to this species and external ears. There are 10 dragon tribes, 9 extant, 1 extinct, and there are humans.
Nightwings-The goth ones. Black and silver scales, starry wing undersides. They have mindreading, foresight, or both powers, depending on how many moons they were born under. Breathe fire.
Seawings-The fish ones-The ones with gills and bioluminescent scales. My favorites. No breath weapons.
Rainwings-The frilly ones. They have color-changing scales like a cuttlefish and venom that they spit like cobras.
Sandwings-The ones with the sails. Have a long sail of skin along their back and a barbed tail. Breathe fire.
Skywings-The dragoniest of them all. Long horns, nose horn, red or orange scales. Breathe fire.
Icewings-The fluffy ones (at least in my style). The spikiest and worst adapted to their environment in book canon. Breathe ice.
Hivewings-The racist bug dragons. Beautiful bodies, but their wings do not look strong enough to lift them off the ground. Stingers, stench emission, venomous bite.
Silkwings-The butterfly dragons. Look like sad kittens in canon artwork. No powers except spinning silk, including a special glowing, burning type called flamesilk, which is very rare.
Beetlewings-Extinct ancestor of Hivewings and Silkwings. Not much is known about them.
Leafwings-Planty winged dragons. Speak for the trees.
Edit: Mudwings-Cow-otter-croc dragons. Could be the coolest tribe if Tui focused on them more. Semi aquatic, can breathe fire if warm, can resist fire if born from a red egg. Family units are based on sibling relationships.

do i stick with the funny cat books for the time being or do i (re)read the funny dragon books............ the fandom is insufferable and the books are mid except for the time where they come up with some of the most interesting concepts i have seen brought up and resolve it in the shittiest most underwhelming way possible. also people are annoying about darkstalker. its either "he's done nothing wrong and if you don't like how he tries to commit genocide then you hate abuse victims" or "he's pure evil and irredeemable and hates all women and his mom should have disowned him and its actually very good that he got all his memories wiped and turned into a rainwing child by the good guys in fact he deserved worse" like jesus christ im beginning to think none of you read the books and you just looked over the pretty text and picked out whatever you wanted to remember. anyway albatross best character i will not be fought on this hill, and "legends: darkstalker" is the best book but not in the way everyone else thinks it is legitimately so fucking tragic for me to be the only person into wof with the correct takes on it and i don't even interact with the fandom because its a fucking tar pit. what was i talking about again

Convoluted Jade Winglet headcanons?
I'm curious!! /gen
Tumblr media
Noble anon and great friend, I am so glad you asked. This post will probably be long so <3 I'll put a tl;dr at the beginning.
Just a warning, in case someone hasn't read them - this will contain spoilers for the Jade Mountain Arc and Legends: Darkstalker!
TL;DR: The Jade Winglet is composed of multiple reincarnations of the Darkstalker: Legends characters. Moonwatcher is the reincarnation of Clearsight; Turtle is the reincarnation of Fathom; Kinkajou is the reincarnation of Indigo; and Qibli is supposed to be the reincarnation of Darkstalker, but Darkstalker never died.
Tumblr media
So, this used to be a big theory of mine when the JM arc was still coming out, but I still cling to it as a headcanon. I just see so many parallels between the characters of these arcs and the Legends: Darkstalker characters. It's been a while since I've actually read those books, but I think my knowledge is still sound enough to write this. If not, who cares, I disregard canon anyway /lh. I am referencing pages on the Wings of Fire wiki pretty frequently as I write this, so props to those guys.
The background. Page 14 of Escaping Peril mentions that SkyWings have specific burial rituals, in hopes that the spirit of the dragon will be free and can be reincarnated into a SkyWing. Though this is FAR from being the definitive canon for dragon afterlife, this is the main jumping point for my reincarnation theories. It appears to be at least accepted in the SkyWing tribe that reincarnation is a thing that can happen to the souls of the departed.
Moonwatcher is the reincarnation of Clearsight. Personally, I always found a lot of similarity in their personalities. With Moonwatcher being the first prophetic (and mind-reading, but Clearsight's thing was prophecy) NightWing in centuries, it seems fitting that this is how Clearsight's spirit would return to the world. Her connection with Darkstalker was not like the one he shared with Clearsight (due to the age gap, ofc, and I am NOT a supporter of shipping the two in ANY capacity), but I felt I drew parallels between Moon's genuine trust in Darkstalker and Clearsight's. If I remember correctly, Darkstalker compared Moon's temperament to that of Clearsight a few times, though I can't be completely sure. Furthermore, Moon's evident involvement in Pantala now gives me more ground to support my funny little headcanon. Clearsight, as the """""""Founder"""""""" of Pantala as we know it, might find her spirit drawn to helping save the broken continent. This idea is also lightly supported by her starting a relationship in canon with Qibli but since I don't really care for that relationship, it's... much more of a backseat thing.
Turtle is the reincarnation of Fathom. After all, the first thing Darkstalker did upon emerging from the mountain was call Turtle by the ancient's name and promptly try to beat him up. That would pretty much confirm that they look super similar. Turtle is, of course, an animus and a member of the royal family--big whoop, that doesn't seem too uncommon in SeaWings. But personality-wise? I'd almost assert they're the exact same. Both fear their own power, both are nervous and easily flustered. And both end up challenging Darkstalker. If the wiki's right, they also go through similar arcs of learning that it's ok for them to be happy.
Kinkajou is the reincarnation of Indigo. This one took me the longest to think of and, yes, it is the biggest stretch. Indigo was a SeaWing, while Kinkajou is a RainWing (although, it appears as though the last known location for Indigo was the Rainforest, so... perhaps not as far-fetched?). But Kinkajou is tough--like when Darkstalker attacked Turtle, she jumped in to save him. And Turtle did have a crush on Kinkajou but that whole agitating love spell thing ruined all chances of that being smiled upon fandom-wise for a loooong time (thanks, Anemone :/). Anyway, Indigo always believed Darkstalker was up to no good, and then Kinkajou was the one who damned him to a fate of being a tiny rainbow hybrid dragonet with a singular fruit.
Originally I was going to say here that Winter is the reincarnation of Arctic, but the more I thought about it, the less it fit and the less I could justify it at all. Seems like Winter is either a different or a new soul, after all. Good for him. Anyway,
Qibli, the one who should have had a used soul. This might sound weird, but bear with me. Qibli was not swayed by Darkstalker's promises, and Darkstalker is known to be viciously manipulative and convincing. Qibli turned Darkstalker down, Qibli stood against some of the best manipulation in dragon history. That's striking to me. Only someone who really knows the tricks would be so resistant, I think. And more than just that, Qibli was GIFTED with wording spells and I vividly recall him constantly wishing he were an animus, as though there was just a part of him he felt was missing. Except there was no animus soul to give him, because Darkstalker never died. And perhaps this was so much for the better. Darkstalker and Qibli are both witty, intelligent, and observant, but Qibli didn't end up with an old, dark soul--there was a new one required for his place, one that was able to survive and stay good-hearted in a place as vicious as the Scorpion Den with dragons as heartless as his relatives. A soul so similar to Darkstalker, yet without the treachery, was a key piece in defeating the ancient evil. Though I do headcanon that, had Darkstalker been killed, Qibli would have been the reincarnation of that soul.
----
So that's basically it, I think? Feel free to call my bluff or burn my crops for this, but I think it's a fun and neat thing to headcanon and think about based on 1 line of SkyWing culture lore that we got, lol. If you wanna ask questions or discuss, I am totally in.
Obligatory request to ignore any grammatical errors or typos, I finished writing this at 1:30 AM and I think I started at like. Midnight lol.

THE LEGO NINJAGO GOOBERS AS WOF DRAGONS OKAY GO
Tumblr media
KAI!!! A Skywing/Seawing hybrid with dominant Skywing traits!
Tumblr media
NYA!! A Sky/Sea hybrid like Kai, but with dominant Seawing traits instead
Tumblr media
JAY! A Sandwing/Rainwing hybrid with dominant Sandwing traits. Originally I wanted to make him just a Rainwing, but then I remembered, duh, he canonically grew up in a desert?? Plus the hybrid thing lets him be blue, and also kinda can go with the adopted thing. Since he's a hybrid, he can only change the blue parts of his scales, and instead of a stinger like a Sandwing, or being able to spit venom like a Rainwing, he has a poisonous bite, like a rattlesnake!
Tumblr media
COLE!! A Mudwing! It maybe would've made more sense if he was a Nightwing (bc black scales), BUT Mudwings are generally more heavily built, stronger, and are more associated with the earth, so I made him a Mudwing!!!
Tumblr media
ZANE!!! An Icewing, kind of? He used to be an ice sculpture that was enchanted by an Icewing Animus (Dr. Julien) to come to life! Bc robots and tech don't exist in the WOF universe, I thought that was a cool way to explain it! :]
Tumblr media
LLOYD!!! A Nightwing Animus! There's no naturally green dragons in the WOF universe besides sometimes Seawings who are blue and green, and Rainwings who can change their scales, but those didn't seem like a good fit. Nightwings are kinda spooky and ~mysterious~ so I thought it'd fit well, so I gave him green eyes and green undertones to his black scales. (Also as a Nightwing, he can see into the future)
The basic gist of this AU is that Lloyd, as a kid, keeps having prophetic visions of a group of dragons with elemental powers who will save Pyrrhia from a "great evil". To make things WORSE, his dad, Garmadon, finds out that Lloyd is an Animus, and wants to use him to overthrow the Nightwing Royal Family.
Lloyd realizes that his dad is the "great evil", and runs away to find the rest of the gang. I think he probably meets Kai and Nya, and then Jay and Cole and Zane, who r all together in Possibility (thx @rosiehunterwolf anyway then they stop Garmadon, but not before he accidentally inspires the Nightwing princess, a thin, angry dragonet named Harumi.....
ANYWAY thats all i got for now, idk how or why they have elemental powers, or how Wu works into this or ANYTHING but its fun and just kinda sillayyyy

Should I title these?
Maybe I should title these.
Anyway, the continuation of me reading The Lost Heir:
Tumblr media
Damn...
As cruel and dumb as Coral is, she is an interesting character.
I do like the idea of Shark trying to make the guards' and workers' lives less stressful under Coral.
Tumblr media
I think Starflight was about to ask if Queen Coral would read something he wrote.
Starflight likes to write then?
I really like that, that's cute.
Tumblr media
Obvious evil Blister is obvious. Also, common sense isn't wisdom, Blister.
Why would a Seawing egg need to be kept warm? How would a Seawing egg be kept warm? Anemone is described as cold several times, so there's not much body heat being given there.
Tumblr media
Blister, you just met these dragons like a page ago, how are you already making mistakes like this?
On another note, pink generally means happiness, so Glory is pleased by Blister's comment. I think it would've been interesting if Blister genuinely seemed like a good person for a while (maybe with only Starflight acting weird cause he knows),then the dragonets later find out she's terrible.
Rather than Tsunami immediately being like, "Yep, she's probably evil" like two seconds after they met.
I would like to see Glory grow close to Blister as she thinks she doesn't just see her as a useless Rainwing. There's a lot of potential here, and I'm tucking that in my rewrite notes.
Tumblr media
Why is this never brought up again?
I really wanted to know what was up with Moray.
The way she acts is just not right.
I thought originally that it was a survival tactic so she couldn't be suspected or trying to take the throne by assassinating the princesses, but she seems to hate Orca and Anemone.
However, it is stated in Winter's book that the throne can be taken by daughters, nieces, and sisters, but not cousins, which is why his mother wanted Icicle to hurry and take the throne before Snowfall could.
Maybe she does actually want the throne then?
Tumblr media
I love Clay so much.
Tumblr media
Oh, ouch.
Also, I think this is the only clever thing Coral has done this entire book, since she couldn't exactly prove that Web's wife was in on the whole thing.
Tumblr media
Blister isn't smart, Coral is just an imbecile.
Blister: I'm so smart I could take over the continent if I wanted to.
Also Blister: Webs killed your children despite having no real motive and the only people who could prove my claim to be false are standing right in front of us.
Also Also Blister: I need the dragonets' favor so they choose me as queen.
Also Also Blister: Coral, throw them in the dungeon.
Tumblr media
Someone please explain to me how Blister knows this.
Scarlet, sure.
Burn, sure.
Blister? Where tf were you that you knew this happened?
Tumblr media
Pre second arc Anemone, I love you so so much.
I would've loved to see Anemone convince everyone that her powers actually did weaken to an unusable degree and get into politics to help her mother.
And maybe she does want some adventure years later as she seemed more interested in what Tsunami learned Under the Mountain than what she was being taught. So, she joins the school.
I'd like to see her learn to put her political, royal parts aside and learn to be a dragonet in the second arc or something along that.
Either way, she'd learn to live without her powers. Maybe Darkstalker manipulates her into thinking she needs to use her powers again, or maybe she stands against that. idk, just none of whatever happened to second arc Anemone.
