Here's more things Tui said at the Tucson Library Event!
Book 16's protagonist will not be Bumblebee or Swordtail, but she wants to write about them again at some point.
Tui can't say what continent Arc 4 will take place in, but it's a place we haven't seen yet.
Tui can't say much about what's going on with the TV series but hopes there'll be some real news on it within the next 6 months.
Tui says she can't make promises about Darkstalker returning, but she says the series isn't done with Peacemaker and he'll have dreams that confuse him and his friends.
Tui has implied Kinkajou could get her own book in the future, as when she thought about it she wondered how else she could save the world.
Tui says we won't get a villian POV ever, as she doesn't want kids idolizing them and acting like them. But she's interested in writing a POV for a character that's complicated but not a full villian.

kind of crazy to me that sutherland pulled off a kind of tragedy like darkstalker writing for middle schoolers. like as an adult it's a classic prequel deal where you know it's going to end terribly and you're familiar with how that sort of story works and needs to work but most kids 9-14 years old don't have any of that context or experience. as a late elementary or middle schooler you're mostly reading shit that's more like the rest of the wings of fire books—they may have heavy themes about power, corruption, and abuse, but the vibes are as happy and silly as they can be with all that still going on and the pov character always has their coming of age breakthrough and the books always end happily.
so just sometimes when I think about it it's really wild how she was like yeah so this is the all-powerful villain currently and here's his backstory and at the end he gets betrayed and, because they can't kill him, put to sleep theoretically forever by his former two best friends in the whole world. and the one best friend is now so doubly traumatized that he leaves forever to go into hiding for the rest of his life and start a little hermit family, and the other, his soulmate, is so crushed by the horrifying events of her short life that she briefly considers killing herself and then decides to leave the entirety of the known world to start a new life at the fabled lost continent. and their whole tribe collectively picks itself up and flees in abject terror of darkstalker's potential return. and sutherland somehow makes this COMPLETELY palatable for children, and I know that because me and all my friends read it when it was released. and I don't know about them but it actually changed my life for the better. that's just pretty insane to me idk

New detail from today's FanWing Fest!
Tui says she's been watching a lot of nature documentaries and doing a lot of "research" on the animals within, hoping to sneak this info into the books! Unknown at the moment what this is hinting at!

The whole enchanted strawberry was the perfect conclusion to Darkstalker’s personal character arc, and the reason why I believe this can be boiled down to one word: hubris.
His arrogance and pride caused his first downfall, it makes perfect thematic sense for it to cause the second as well.
I think arc twos ending is pure dogshit, not the ending with moonbli but the ending with darkstalker. How do you spend a whole arc drilling home the idea that using magic to force change people into something they’re not is a horrible thing and a fate worse than death. Then have your main characters do the SAME THING THE MINUTE ITS CONVENIENT???
like COME ON. And Tui didn’t even do anything interesting with it like calling the characters out or haven’t the action show to be morally wrong!
She could have so easily had darkstakler choose to become peacemaker, she set up the whole idea that moon and turtle were reincarnations of fathom and clearsight (at least I think she did I don’t remember) and had followed that theme with darkstalker. Or idk maybe just KILLED HIM.
it would have been interesting to see an arc filled with examples of how forcing people to become something they’re not is bad but then show have accepting change yourself is good!
I think it’s by far one of the worst endings to a story I’ve seen in a while. (still love arc 2 tho!)

I didn't even realize I had the dragonet prophecy memorized damn. like it would be kind of ridiculous if I hadn't by now I guess because I started reading these in like 2013 and almost every time a new one came out, I'd read every single previous one over again before reading the new release, so I've read the original arc practically one million times all told. but somehow I never thought to sit and recite the prophecy to myself and I just did just now and it was wild
