what is Your take on the show possibly doing past dm in its entirety like how do you think it could be carried out cause i feel like everyone's main gripes are that it'll somehow fuck w the show's integrity/daniel couldn't possibly have forgotten Everything/it doesn't make sense with the storyline we currently have. i'm v curious as someone who loves the direction the show is taking but also wants to see assad and lbf devil their minions

first of all it's a little crazy to me that it could fuck with the show's integrity when the show in question is literally the "memory is a monster" show. like. regardless how you feel about the fact that the show did this they literally spent the last episode going "yeah the guy you think is the villain actually isn't, and everybody just fucking forgot or didn't know to begin with. which is how he got away with it." and keep in mind the villain in question is the guy who has been consistently erasing everybody's memories for fun and his own personal gain. so like. i think the show will survive if they introduce a romance b-plot and do so by saying "yup! daniel forgot before because armand made him!" anyway.

the one thing i'm curious about is the fact that in the books devil's minion era is intrinsically linked with lestat's show and akasha and so on and so forth. which it won't be in the show to the same degree because lestat isn't a rockstar in 1985. and by the time he is daniel is already a vampire. so it'll be interesting to see if that somehow is the defining factor of if/how they do it.

in terms of daniel and armand's relationship though i think it works really well? like i think it's very easy to say that in 1985 armand wiped daniel's memories instead of made him a vampire. i love the idea that night island happens, then daniel starts running away, and there's some overlap with his relationship with alice and armand. very easy for armand to see daniel in a near-death OD type situation and say yeah, nope, this is not happening again, we're breaking up and you can't remember me. (the breakup could happen a bunch of different ways also which maybe they'll go with! but i'm just sticking as close to book canon as i can rn) i think the trajectory of the relationship could stay just about the same. i think the one potential difference is like. well what happens after 1985? which is why i've really come to like the idea that in show verse there's the possibility of armand visiting daniel throughout the years until dubai happens. this potentially is where things get goofy, like. armand just restoring and deleting daniel's memories over and over again kind of like a cartoon villain. but iiiii like it for the fact that it implies armand can't stay away from him. and they'll be in love forever. i could probably talk about this forever but to sum it up like yeah. i think it could very realistically work. i think whatever they do will be compelling to me but i do feel just a little bit you can pry 70s-80s devil's minion out of my cold dead hands

You can pry my (queer)platonic reading of fakiru out of my cold dead grubby little hands. I love how in a genre so defined by romance the show mainly focuses on their friendship. While there are a few ship tease moments here and there, there is no expectation of romance. It would’ve been so easy to write the lake scene into a love confession but they didn’t! And this really helps the show in terms of show not tell. We aren’t told whether fakir loves duck romantically or platonically but we are shown without a doubt that he loves duck, enough to pull her out of despair.

Likewise we’re never given any indication duck likes fakir romantically but their bond becomes her source of strength at the end of the series. I will never ever shut up about how a perfectly logical reading of the text is that they are best friends. Best friends who are intimate in a way that blurs the line between friendship and romance but best friends nonetheless.

I love how instead of being paired off with the obligatory boy at the end (I’m sorry this happened to you, rue) instead Duck finds a lifelong friend who helps her feel comfortable in her body. I love how the exact nature of the relationship is left entirely up to the viewer. I LOVE HOW YOU CAN COME AWAY FROM THE SHOW READING THEM AS “JUST FRIENDS!!”

“well then shall we start your exam?”

san just nodded looking at his doctor. he had been transferred here just a month ago and ever since then san has tried making his professional facade crack every chance he got.

“come on you know the drill. sit down.” y/n ordered the soldier and he sat on the bench bed. “ok just look at my finger and i’ll shine the light into your eyes” san stared right past y/n’s finger into his concentrated eyes. “great your pupils are bilaterally isocor” he put the little diagnostic lamp back into his white coat and pulled a wooden stick from one of the cabinets. san already knowing what comes next expectantly opened his mouth and pushed his tongue out before y/n could even turn back to him. “ok-“ he started but stopped at the picture in front of him. shrugging his shoulders he placed the wooden stick on sans tongue while taking out the diagnostic lamp again and shining into his oral cavity. “and-“ “ahhhhh” finished san for him. y/n praised him and his cooperation with a light chuckle.

san just continued staring at him while he shone the light around his mouth. he straightened his back with an amused “hm” whilst throwing the stick in the trash. “hm?” asked san and y/n answered with a “what?”. “you made a ‘hm’ sound. what was that for?” the other pretended to think, even tapping his index finger to his chin but never actually touching skin “have you ever heard that dentists can see bruises in your mouth after certain activities?” and with that a slight blush spread across sans nose and cheeks, all over his strong features down to his neck but he just shook his head no trying to remain at least some composure.

his doctor shrugged with a slight smile getting his stethoscope. “that’s ok i was never too keen on the mouth and it’s inhabitants anyway.” “teeth?” y/n cocked his head to the side asking back. “you mean teeth? your mouth inhabitants?” san emphasised with air quotes. “yeah those too.” y/n replied while motioning the soldier to pull his shirt up.

“you know” san stared a bit cautiously “it would be easier if i just took it off completely”. “sure it would be if you’re not uncomfortable” y/n stared at him blinking owlishly and with that he lifted his white tshirt over his head holding it bunched up in his lap. “careful cold” his doctor just said before placing the stethoscope on his upper left chest. “and breathe in” san took a deep breath in “and out” at the command he let it out again. “good” y/n said, switching to his right side. “and again” he asked softy while san tried to focus anywhere but the others eyes this time and just settled for an imaginary point on the wall while his doctor continued the auscultation of his lung hoping that it wasn’t possible to hear how his heart was pounding.

“sounds great” the missing touch on his skin pulled san from his starting daydream, following his doctors instructions further he laid down on his back settling for staring up at the ceiling this time the tshirt now clutched in his left hand next to the wall. “tell me if it hurts yeah?” he started expertly pressing on his abdominal right upper quadrant. “stop this” he ordered the soldier taking his eyes of his stomach. meeting his eyes now san tried to hide a smirk asking “stop what?” y/n stopped touching his stomach, which made san swallow down a whine, straightening up and brushing his hair out of his eyes to look at him more clearly. “stop trying to impress me by flexing your muscles. it messes with the exam.” san cocked an eyebrow. “who says im flexing my muscles? this is them in their natural state.” pointing his gloved finger accusingly at the soldier “stop lying to your doctor. it’s not working. i know what a flexed muscle feels like soldier. besides there really is no need to try and impress me.”

“why?” san asked “did i do it already?” fighting back the smile that threatened to appear on his face the doctor just answered “one, yes but most importantly, you really shouldn’t need my approval to know that you’re in great physical shape. we both know this examination is purely a formality of bureaucracy.” y/n paused and turned away from sans eyes to face his stomach again “and now stop flexing and let me finish this.” happy with that answer and a smile plastered over his face san relaxed his muscles and just focused on his doctors touch.

“good, well done.” he praised him “now i just need to palpate the rest of your body. again just tell me when it hurts.” and with that he started at his wide shoulders applying light pressure continuing down his rips and to his hips. “now spread your legs” “take me out to dinner first” san chuckled but obeyed while y/n just playfully rolled his eyes at him, carrying on with each leg. “no pain at all?” san denied the question by shaking his head slightly. satisfied with this his doctor nodded and positioned himself at the soldiers feet.

with crossed armes he applied light pressure on sans right foot. “push back every time i push” he ordered. san pushed his right food back slightly and switched to his left when y/n did as well, ending with pushing them both at the same time.

“ok great you can sit back up” y/n said while taking of his blue gloves revealing another white pair underneath.

“you wear two pairs of gloves?” san asked while watching his doctor dispose of the blue pair.

“sometimes, yes” he nodded “it’s more convenient and you can tell if one rips, which is more important during surgery but it just became a habit”

standing in front of him again and crossing his arms y/n took each of sans hands into his own testing his grip strength the same as he did with his feet.

“ok and squeeze right” he waited for the pressure “good and left” after a short moment he continued “and now both” to which san squeezed both of his doctors hands while locking eyes with him.

“good” y/n breathed out lightly “you can let go now” he added softly with a smile. but san really didn’t want to let go of his doctors hands right now. or ever.

so he asked “what if i don’t want to?” slightly furrowing his eyebrows causing y/n to slight stumble over his next words “i still need to test your reflexes san”

he slowly let go of his hands while dropping his head. “oww now don’t start looking like a kicked puppy. i also still need to write this all down and hand it in. otherwise they’ll take you off your next mission and what would your team do without you now huh?”

san nodded his head in defeat. his doctor was right. this was nothing more than an exam to determine if he was physically capable of being send overseas to kill some innocent civilians. purely a formality.

what's something you'd like to see more of on royal simblr?

Great question, me! There's a number of things I'd love to see more often in the royal simblr community, such as:

More non-western influences and royals. European monarchies are the most accessible to English-speaking westerners, but in the modern day, most monarchical systems exist in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. I can only think of a few royal Simblrs that are meant to have non-Western settings--I'm sure there are more that I'm not aware of, so I'd love recommendations on that front!

More stylistic diversity. @warwickroyals touched on this in her answer to this question, but there is a prevailing style for women on royal simblr, which is very classically feminine with a lot of dainty features and soft pastels. I'd love to see more people try to differentiate their characters a bit more in terms of silhouette and personal style. I think there were some royal simblr fashion police a few years ago who sent rude messages to people who broke "the rules" of royal dress, and I think that's had a bit of a stifling effect on the community. Even if you give your royals strict dress codes, I think there's a lot of room to play around and experiment within those parameters. For example, I was actually watching that Prince Philip doc produced by the royal family after his death, and I was struck by how distinctly all the women dressed. Princess Anne was in jeans and a blazer, Zara Tindall was wearing a sleek skirt suit, Beatrice and Eugenie were wearing flowy floral dresses...there's a lot of ways to be polished and stylish while still expressing individual style, so I'd love to see some of that on simblr.

More diversity, just in general. I'm not going to pretend I'm not also guilty of this, but royal simblr is very white, very able-bodied, very cisgender and heterosexual, very thin, and very conventionally beautiful by western standards. There's no reason why made-up countries with made-up histories should follow all the patterns and prejudices of the real world, so it'd be nice to see more of a range of types. I love my beautiful, icy brunettes as much as the next person (you will pry Rosalind from my cold, dead hands) but it'd be great to see more representation of different types of people.

More interesting men. This is one that's a lot more subjective, but I feel like there is a general tendency toward blandness when it comes to male characters on royal simblr. Speaking very broadly, the menfolk tend to be either irredeemable dumpster creatures OR perfect husbands and fathers who wait patiently for their "messy" love interests to realize that he's the man of their dreams. I don't think there's anything wrong with either of these things in a vacuum (and there's tons of stories that I really enjoy that make use of those archetypes), but I feel like there are some missed opportunities for more interesting and dynamic male characters, especially as love interests. For me personally, it's hard to get invested in a romance where one or both parties is certifiably Nice (tm) without any other defining character traits.

Anyway, all this to say that these are really broad trends, and I'm sure you could cite strong counterexamples for each OR point out places where I've fallen into the same patterns. But in general, those are the community-wide tropes that I think could use the most refreshing.

Loki Season 2 Wishlist

I've been creating a wishlist for what I want to see in Loki season 2, which premieres October 6.... [pause for long-suffering sigh because I’m so tired] I’m very annoyed that it’s not coming out until October (if it’s genuinely because of the strike(s), I’m not annoyed with the writers/actors but with the studios for not meeting demands so we can move on with our lives, but I’m pretty damn sure the strike is a scapegoat). I’m not surprised they keep moving it back, because they also kept pushing back season one! (I wish this format was audio so you could hear my indignation, haha.) But I wish it was still coming out in the summer like it was supposed to. Anyway, let’s jump into it. (Fair warning, a little bit of ranting incoming.)

First things first, Lokius: This ship has grown on me. I was resisting for a very long time, and I think it took until about episode four or five before I was like, “Okay, fine, you can date Owen Wilson.” And then I was all on board, and at this point I’ve written I think three Lokius fics on AO3 (link in the blog description). So, yeah. @ MCU, if you need some ideas, agree to the writers’ and actors’ demands and then hire me. I’m a lot of things but I’m not a scab. Okay, anyway. 

Genderfluid Loki: I’m genderfluid myself, and the “representation” included in the show was nonexistent. First of all, fluid is not a sex. Sex is assigned to you at birth, on Earth, and it corresponds to your genitalia. You are usually assigned male or female. There may be some places now where you can get Intersex put onto your birth certificate, if that qualifies, but until very recently, most intersex babies ended up undergoing surgery to change their bodies to fit better with one sex assignment or the other. Therefore, fluid cannot be considered a sex, at least in terms of on Earth. Perhaps it could be on other planets, but the people watching this show (as Twitter has been so helpfully pointing out recently) are on Earth, so no, wrong, Loki’s genderfluidity is gender-based not sex-based. I don’t know why they didn’t just put gender on the file, they should have. And that was the only time they included it, and I think that they put it there (aside from being like “ooh look at us we’re so progressive!”) as foreshadowing that Sylvie was going to be a girl. Which is bullshit, because that’s not what genderfluid means, either! Genderfluid means that you, yourself, change genders. And we never, in the show or the MCU in general, see Loki explicitly present or identify himself as anything other than a man. And furthermore, Sylvie isn’t genderfluid either, because she never states that she’s anything other than a woman. Nor do either of them ever request people refer to them using any other pronouns. On top of that, Sylvie is a trans woman, you cannot convince me otherwise, and you will pry that conviction out of my cold, dead, genderfluid hands. (I’m very incensed about this entire thing, I apologize. This is why I inserted the read more and the warning above.) So I’d like to see more of genderfluid Loki (not Sylvie; she’s made it clear that she is a (trans) woman, and I’m respecting that she’s got one gender). I don’t necessarily need to see him shapeshift into a woman, like into a different actor or Tom Hiddleston in make-up or something, because as much as I would love to shapeshift, I can’t, and I don’t think he needs to shapeshift to be his most authentic, genderfluid self (because then what does that say about irl genderfluid people? rant for another time, though, sorry). So I just want a little more justice to be paid to that, and maybe let him change up his pronouns sometimes. All right, moving on, before I get really worked up. 

Verity: I love Loki: Agent of Asgard. Al Ewing is my favorite comic writer for this reason (and not because he’s also bi; I just found that out 24 hours ago). Agent of Asgard is, in my opinion, the best version of Loki ever to hit the comics. It is the best version of genderfluid Loki, the best version of redemption arc Loki, the best version of Loki as a character in general. And his best friend is Verity Willis, ace icon Verity Willis. (I don’t make the rules, she’s ace; have you seen her character design? Have you heard her say that she’s not interested in romance? She’s ace!) I want her, some how, some way, in Loki. This is a little bit more of a stretch, because I don’t know how she can be put in, so this is a little bit more of a pipe-dream of a wish. But I want. her. in. Loki. So bad. 

Theo Bell: I also really like Mackenzi Lee’s Loki: Where Mischief Lies. (It’s a great book; you should definitely read it if you haven’t.) In it, Theo is Loki’s love interest-slash-coworkerish-slash-partner in crime. This story is set in Victorian England. Theo Bell is gay and walks with a cane. It’s been awhile since I read it so I may be taking this theory from a fanfic I wrote, but I’m pretty sure it’s canon that he became disabled as a result of a homophobic attack. (So trigger warning for that, but if it’s canon it’s only mentioned) He’s a great character; he’s funny, he’s snarky, he doesn’t put up with any of Loki’s shit, and he can also (and this might also be me adding to the character but I’m pretty sure I’m right) see through Loki’s lies pretty quickly at some points. So I would really like to see Theo in the MCU. I also have some theories about Theo versus Mobius (shameless plug for one of my fics, Choose Me, which utilizes my theory about them), so I would like for Theo to show up in the way that proves my theory right.

Agent of Asgard Loki: At the very least, I just really want that coat, that coat is so cool. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, google Loki: Agent of Asgard. The coat that he wears throughout the comic is kick-ass.) I want that coat somewhere in the show, I do not care who’s wearing it. That being said, I really want Agent of Asgard Loki to make an appearance in the MCU at some point. Somehow. I already have some theories about where I think we can go with AoA Loki in the MCU (which I’ll probably post about later). Like I said, I really love that version of Loki, I really love that comic arc, and I want him somehow paid tribute to somewhere in the show. Actually, though, I did just reread the entire comic run, and I noticed that towards the end in the final climax of his redemption arc, there’s a lot of similarities between that and the last couple episodes of season one. So they already seem to be drawing on AoA, so maybe they won’t be able to include the actual characterization of Loki from AoA. But it’s still on my list.

Let Loki do more magic, goddammit!: He does very little magic in season one. Although he’s not able to do magic in the TVA (which was very annoying for the fic I was trying to write the other day), but as far as I can tell, he only does magic like four or five times in the rest of the show. Classic Loki literally says (and I looked up the exact quote because I’m a NERD, can you tell?) “Blades are worthless in the face of a Loki’s sorcery.” And then Loki proceeds to do NO MAGIC for most of the show! So I want him to do more magic, especially shapeshifting. And at one point I think he mentions that he likes doing his duplicity thing, so I think he should do more of that, too. (Which I think based on the only trailer-like thing we’ve gotten so far, it seems like he’s going to do. And maybe I’m stealing this from that trailer, but I think it would be really funny if he did the duplicity thing and then Mobius automatically knows which one is the real Loki, which is hilarious, because Thor doesn’t usually know.)

Give my girl Sylvie a girlfriend: While I do like the idea of her with B-15, I feel like the reason why we’re shipping her with B-15 for the most part is because there are basically no other girls in this show. C-20 is dead, Renslayer is a dick, and we just really don’t want her to be with Loki (you saw my first entry on this list, you know where I stand). I’m counting Loki on this list since he’s genderfluid even though it’s not being portrayed very well. So her with B-15 is fine, I do kind of like it, but I don’t know enough about B-15, I don’t know enough about their relationship. I don’t think they even have enough of a relationship yet for me to really feel like I super ship it. But I just want somebody for her, preferably a girlfriend, because I think that’d be cute. I’m genderfluid, personally, but I’m available. ;-)

Thor: I! Want! Thor! I know we got Frog Thor, but I want actual Thor! I want Thor to give all of the Lokis a hug, in particular Kid Loki (and I have some theories about why he killed Thor, or why he said he killed Thor), Classic Loki, Sylvie, and also our regular Loki. Because I think they need a hug from their big brother (I know they were raised as twins, but I like saying he’s their big brother, I don’t care). 

Classic Loki in Valhalla: Pretty straight forward (and you can read After on AO3, because I wrote this). I need Classic Loki to see Thor and I need Classic Loki to be in Valhalla, because I think he deserves it. (If he’s actually dead.)

Mobius’s backstory: I want to know where Mobius came from; I want to know how he got to the TVA. I want to know if he had a jet ski or if my theory is correct (per Choose Me). 

Why Sylvie was taken by the TVA: There are some great theories about why Sylvie was taken by the TVA, one of which I subscribe to the most as of late (as included in Nothing Matters at the End of the World. I’m pretty sure this is my last plug on this post, I’m so sorry). But I am not convinced that she was taken in because she’s a girl. I think that’s transphobic and misogynistic and nonsense. And I say transphobic because Sylvie’s a transwoman, and I will not be taking criticism on this. I don’t care that that line “born the goddess of mischief” was probably meant to discourage trans headcanons, and I encourage the writers to respectfully get their heads out of their asses and consider that “born this way” is not just a Lady Gaga song (but the song is also relevant in this case). So I think it’s pretty damn transphobic to say that she isn’t allowed to exist because she’s a woman. And it’s misogynist and transmisogynist to claim that the rest of what the timeline demands of her cannot be accomplished if she isn’t a cis man or genderfluid or whatever a “right” Loki is. So I want to know why she was actually taken in. There are a lot of theories online about why she was arrested, and I like a lot of them. And on top of that, she doesn’t know! She told Loki that it’s because she’s a girl, but then when she gets in front of Renslayer, she’s like, “What was my nexus event?” Which implies that she does not actually know. And maybe it’s just bad writing or a plot hole, and that’s very possible. It’s the MCU, and writers make mistakes (I know I sure do, though I don’t have a team of people checking my work). But I’m choosing to go with she doesn’t actually know. She was like six years old, she was a kid, she assumed something. And why would you assume that, if you’re six? Unless you’ve been told something else your whole life. So there are two possibilities for why she assumed this. Either, yes, she’s a cis woman, and spent her entire life until that point being told-- presumably by Odin--that because she’s a girl she’s not gonna rule. Which would suck, but checks out for Odin, because he’s a dick. Or she spent most of her life being told she’s a boy and having to tell everybody that she’s a girl. And even if she isn’t faced with any transphobia on Asgard (as Where Mischief Lies would have us believe), that’s hard for a six year old, and when she’s told that she’s in trouble for doing nothing, she’s gonna make some assumptions, and maybe she landed on that. But I don’t think she actually knows why and I want to know why. And I think she deserves to know why.

Reunite Sylvie with Thor: I either want Sylvie to reunite with her Thor or be sibling-adopted by Loki’s Thor (bonus points if Loki gets jealous and Thor has to be like “Give me a break. I love you, too, idiot.”). I want Sylvie to somehow get her brother back, whether it’s the one she lost or the Thor we know. I think she needs somebody, and I think Thor is a great person for that. Because I think Thor will immediately be like “You’re great. I love you. You’re wonderful, just because you’re my sister, and you’re the best.” Even after just meeting her, because Thor is such a wonderful little golden retriever puppy, and also, he loves Loki so much. And he continues to, even after everything that happened in the MCU! And that’s lovely, and I think Sylvie deserves someone like that.

And finally, I need Loki, somehow, in some way, to be able to lift Mjolnir by the end of season 2: I think he’s moving, very swiftly, towards being worthy of lifting Mjolnir, and I want him to be able to do that. I think that will show him, personally, that he is better and has changed. And I think he needs that physical validation and confirmation that he’s changed. I think that people (Mobius) can tell him until they’re blue in the face that he’s a good person, that he can be good, and that he can do what’s right and be a hero, but until he can lift Mjolnir (the way his brother can, because he’s been told by everyone his whole life that his brother is the best), I don’t think that he’ll believe that he is worthy of anything. And I want Thor and Mobius to see it, and I want them to lose their goddamn minds. Because I certainly will.

i don’t have a name for it yet but it’s a “sales call center au” (ive worked at both a call center and have done my fair share of phone sales so more of this au hinges on my experience from phone sales lol) and basically cole gets hired by some company (overwatch ig) to sell services over the phone. his easy humor, smooth voice, and non pressuring vibes have led to numerous sales so someone (idk who yet) asks him to pursue the toughest nut to crack: hanzo’s company—shimada whatever. no one has been ever able to get past the gatekeeping front desk staff let alone talk to the ceo. so cole does some digging and manages to get the ceo’s (hanzo’s) personal number. he leaves a few messages which hanzo ignores, but cole isn’t one to leave this shit hanging. finally one day hanzo picks up and is all Will you Quit Calling. and cole is like okay one growl at me more daddy what—but he’s like sugar gimme a second of your time but hanzo hangs up on him.

now at the company i worked for (and any phone sales company) getting hung up on didn’t mean don’t pursue; in fact they said hey keep trying until you get a good convo and a formal no then push them out for a few months and come back (basically pester them to death you know businesses gotta business LMAO). the only exception is obviously dnc lists and whatnot. so cole keeps calling. and more and more he and hanzo start to actually talk. it’s pretty flirty from jump and their talks get longer and longer to the point that they don’t even talk about sales or any of that shit just about each other. cassidy “takes work home” a night or two on his personal cell (and they have phone sex cough). and then eventually hanzo’s like alright tell me about this product of yours so i don’t make your superiors think i’m wasting your time. cassidy does the full pitch, hanzo actually considers it because he’s built up so much rapport with cole and it WOULD be beneficial for the business… so he’s just like cole i will consider your proposal and partnering with your company on one condition… and cole’s just anything sugar name your price. SO hanzo’s like i do not do online payments. i will only provide you a check… in person. and i will only sign if you are physically in my office. CLEARLY he’s saying “cole i need you in my bed and i’m willing to make this fucking happen” and cole knows but obviously it’s a recorded line when he’s in the office so he’s like hon lemme put you on hold. goes to talk to his boss and reyes (ig who is his boss i haven’t thought much about the company structure yet) is like: boy, if you get the shimada’s to sign i will promote you the second you come back WITH bonuses. and cole explains how hanzo will only sign if he goes in person and reyes is like i’ll book the flight for tomorrow LMAO. so cole goes back to his phone to talk to hanzo and said can i count on you to pick me up at the airport? and he can hear hanzo smiling over the line and HUEHUEHUE

yeah anyway when he gets to hanzo’s city they see each other in person they’re so fucking horny, they go to hanzo’s penthouse and fuck nasty style and then the next day hanzo goes over all the terms, signs the check and huzzah business partners lol. they probably get married in the future too LMAO

This post is part of my "the dub changed this stuff" post group, but I've separated these scenes as more of personal "I love these little scenes" scenes versus actual plot scenes that got altered.

I've also posted video clips of my favorite scenes and heavy changes, so consider those a supplement to this and vice versa.

My preference of the JP version also isn't just because of translation, but also the wording tone and vocal tone. I find it more fun/appealing/emotional/etc.

This dunk on Flynn is everything to me (as in, Flynn does taste test... it just doesn't save anyone else).

I swear that was the exact moment Yuri's "may have to adopt this child, gotta test it" radar turned on.

Mind you Yuri is also a lonely depressed mess and you can't even pry that from my cold dead hands. Karol slipping up right there was aaaall Yuri needed to protect that boy.

Also posted this in video form because the way Flynn uses the exact same term (abandon) that Yuri used in the prison just gets me. Don doesn't even know Yuri used that wording before and Flynn says it anyway. Don doesn't know Yuri used that wording and Yuri doesn't even hear Flynn say this, but Flynn uses the exact term anyway. It's literally his way of saying to Yuri without telling him directly, "I would not abandon you".

This one wasn't really changed in the dub, but I don't feel like making a video just for this. Basically I just love the way Toriumi made him sound so sleepy-annoyed, and then when he stands up he sounds tired-annoyed, like, I am so sick of this guy tired.

I just think. this is adorable.

I love the way this is phrased. He has so much faith in Yuri and knows if Yuri was in the knights that he could do so much. Like, not just, you could do this. Just. If it's you, then...

I just LOVE the delivery here.

You could also translate this as Yuri saying it's a mess here/Flynn looks like a mess.

I don't actually remember what this was in the dub but I love this scene because of Yuri's reaction to what Raven said. Raven wasn't with them in Heliord when all that happened, implying to Yuri he was there though. But why? Why would he be in Heliord? Yes, we know Schwann was, but Raven never showed his face to them there. Yuri getting another accidental tip off that Raven is in fact very fishy for really real!

Not an important change on the dub's end, but I like this version more because it kind of shows how far gone Zagi is. Obviously the blastia is not defying him and has no will of its own, but ye boi isn't really worried about that!

Again, not really important, but the dub changed this to "the kids are alright", which is one of the very very very few changes I prefer. It adds to his character, whereas this is just good ol' Raven. It doesn't take away from anything and does actually show that he's rooting for them in a way (in a joking way since they're all in the desert and y'all know how he acts at this part). The dub comes across more as trying to alleviate Yuri of some of the burden by telling him the others are okay and implying not to worry so much.

That said, obviously I don't like when they change things and I do like the line he uses in the dub, but I'm not sure why they changed it...?

Just Raven being a silly little guy!

An interesting thing to note is that you can interpret this both as "a crime" and as "a sin". Basically, you could say Yuri's committed the act of a sinner, rather than just plainly saying they're crimes. Yuri follows up using the same word, which can be seen as admitting he believes he's committed acts of a sinner (so not just that murder is a crime, but that it's a sin and that he's a sinner for it).

Adds a bit more depth to how Yuri views himself/his actions imo, while Flynn is currently still in his "law is black and white" phase - something that is part of Flynn's own character arc and growth that he learns from and changes from.

A fun thing to also note is that Link, the gacha game, had a Yuri unit sporting the title "Sin Bearer", which fits perfectly in line with this and was likely a direct reference to this (note that it doesn't use "crime" in the title, but "sin", something that also relates back to Yuri in the gacha game Crestoria).

(Basically, the term used here is literally "tsumi", which can be used to mean both and in Yuri's case can be used interchangeably while meaning both at the same time. He's committed a crime and is a sinner because of it - though as mentioned above, Namco seems to prefer the continuation of the "sin" side of it in other official Yuri content)

Full scene is here, but I just wanted to talk about this one particular part of the delivery.

Flynn's tone is very soft. He's literally just wondering where Yuri already disappeared to, and the anger in his voice is completely gone. It's pretty interesting to me because it almost feels like him confronting Yuri at the very end of the argument was like a formality as a knight, and him just being worked up about the law.

As soon as he switches his mindset and tone back to talking to Sodia about the barricade, it's like the tension in his mind was switched off and he's already lost the pressure of the moment. It actually almost sounds innocent, as if wondering why Yuri walked away. Obviously we can determine why Yuri walked away, but in a way here with Flynn, it actually almost sounds like he's confused. The dub had it be more of "oh, where'd he go", but to me the original delivery sounds genuinely confused about why he took off.

I obviously can't confirm what the intention was behind the delivery in this case without literally asking the JP director lol which tough shit because we know that's never gonna happen, but it almost feels like some crazy degree of Flynn's own internal/mental struggles.

Sort of like, wanting to uphold the law but still trying to be a friend to Yuri and having trouble because he can't separate the two from himself (i.e. yes he wants to uphold the law but not at Yuri's expense and is thus affected by bias. Obviously I can't confirm if just the way he says Yuri's name in this scene is an indicator that he's confused and it's causing his black and white view to crack, but it's an interesting thing to consider).

Just a fun tidbit that got changed in the dub. They probably figured most players wouldn't actually know what he meant here and so just changed it to what the term actually means. Basically, it means they're the ones traveling/not in their home territory and thus don't have the advantage.

So the thing about Clarice and Joey...

I'm just going on a HUGE rant here because I ship these two a ton and my exhausted brain wants to use this rarepair as an outlet hhhh

Okay so I am currently on my 8th or 9th playthrough of House of Ashes and I decided to take a look at the background characters. A bit late I know but shhhh. I decided to play as good guy Eric and make friends at the base but also look at the characters around the ones who do most of the talking. And what do I see when Eric and company enter the base and approach Joey?

Clarice opening her mouth as soon as she looks at Joey as if she's gasping. I'm reading a lot into it because I am desperate, I know, but look at it- (Putting the rest under 'keep reading' so I don't clutter your dashboard)

No idea why she did it. Maybe she was yawning or something, I dunno. But it's cute. And I mean, can you blame her? Sure, Joey likes to pull 'yo momma' jokes but unlike Merwin he has the charisma and social skills to only make those jokes when he wants to lighten up the mood, but drops it immediately if things get serious. He's a cutie and I would burn down a nation for him.

Anyways, during this scene Clarice keeps smiling at Joey. It's most likely because she feels encouraged by Eric's confident aura, it would be quite contagious, and knowing that she works for someone who pioneered a huge project that could turn the tides of war majorly could boost her own self-esteem. Or maybe she finds Joey's nervousness around Eric appealing, or at the very least charming.

Seriously, 95% of the time Clarice looks at Joey she's smiling or at least smirking. And yes, Joey doesn't pay her much attention during this moment, focused solely on Eric and his own embarrassment. But just look at Clarice's smile when Joey shyly shifts in his seat.

Let's take a look at Joey after the briefing, once you gain control of Eric. He's sitting on a desk behind Clarice, head turned towards her, whistling away as they wait. He's not directly shown looking at her in any of the cutscenes but when you approach him it's obvious. He doesn't follow Eric and when you trigger the cutscene you can see that he is looking towards him (where Clarice is) instead of the playing cards in his hands.

Alright, I know it's now time to look at their conversation in the helo. Notice how Clarice turns to Joey right away when she asks about the term 'Semper Fi' and when Joey explains the context of it all, she wants him to give her more examples. And even though she dismisses it all as some sort of boys' scout thing, Joey isn't offended in the slightest, merely stating that those superstitions exist to keep morale high and not leave everything in the hands of faith. They're having a very healthy conversation about their different viewpoints and I love it (plus how Joey's facial expression towards Clarice changes in this scene. It starts out with an unimpressed smile, turns into a serious gaze when he talks about his believes and then seemingly thinks the conversation is over and then he outright grins all goofy at her when Clarice asks further and then announces that it all sounds stupid to her. He looks like he wanted to tease her and succeeded).

Not to mention the parallels between the two. Joey get's shot during Dar's attack and dies in Nick's arms. Clarice hides in a panic and ends up stuck in the tunnels with a dying Merwin. She gets infected and slowly turns into a vampire. Joey's corpse somehow gets infected as well and he comes back from the dead, attacking Jason.

These two did NOT deserve what happened to them and I hope they meet in the afterlife to hold hands! *swipes away a dramatic tear*

And I know that most of the fandom headcanon Clarice as lesbian because of her and Rachel's chemistry. And I agree, but I personally headcanon her as a bi-lesbian, a woman who likes multiple genders but has a preference for women. Also Joey is trans in my headcanon and you can pry that away from my cold dead handsss-

ANYWAYS to round this whole thing up, I love Jorice. They shared only a fraction of screen time together but they have already wormed their way into my heart and I will cherish this ship forever, even if it's nothing more than a canoe for one!

I saw this post https://www.tumblr.com/victorialovesstiles/731872422364577792/ray-and-his-need-to-be-actively-chosen-another about Ray’s need to be chosen by Sand and OH MY GOD have I been waiting for someone to talk about this!!! (or part of it bc this is only a part of the bigger issue, which I haven’t seen a full post about yet) and I want to know what you think.

So I am someone who… relates a little too much to Ray. I pretty much fit him to a T in terms of the problems he deals with (except drug and alcohol addiction, I pursued other unhealthy ways of coping). The week between episodes 10 and 11 was truly agonizing because it was almost like going through what Ray was going through bc I know exactly what that’s like. But, anyways, I can understand Ray on a deeper level than I can other characters (I share a lot of issues with Sand as well, but that’s a topic for another time) and we need to dissect Ray’s abandonment issues straight to the core.

Ray has abandonment issues up the wazoo, and while I’ve seen posts talk about his issues with his dad and why he depends on alcohol in the first place, I have yet to see one take a deep dive into just what all of that means (it very well might exist, I just haven’t seen one).

Ray feels abandoned. By his mother, his father, and everyone in his life. He is no one’s first choice. He is constantly being told how much of a burden he is. It’s hard to explain what that does to a person unless you’ve lived through it. It makes you feel unloved, worthless, dead weight. You distrust people and don’t let them in bc who knows when (when, not if, bc this is something ingrained in your mind after a while) they’ll abandon you.

So how do you live with it? You find outlets. A lot of the time abandonment issues start when you are very young and have no idea how to cope with anything, so a lot of times these outlets can be harmful. What’s worse, is you often develop a dependency on these things. For Ray, that’s alcohol. Until Sand came along, you could pry alcohol from his cold dead hands (much like me and my TV shows).

A lot of the time, abandonment issues come with massive trust issues. Ray doesn’t seem to have these at first glance, but then he almost immediately falls into “self-fulfilling prophecy” after SandRay becomes indisputably real. Everything is “too good” with Sand, therefore it must be destroyed before it hurts Ray. This is a big thing with abandonment issues people. If we destroy something first, we haven’t been abandoned, it was us who left, not the other way around. Say you’re living in a flat with a roommate whose name is on the lease. They tell you you have 2 weeks to pack your things and leave, but you are gone in 1 week. You tell yourself that it was your decision bc you decided to move out the first week, therefore you weren’t kicked out.

This is essentially what Ray is doing. He’s confronted with this information about Sand and instead of talking it through or doing quite literally anything else, he blows up in Sand’s face. He feels betrayed and is facing the possibility that everything between him and Sand has been a lie. “You slept with me” is so real for him bc he let someone in and he can’t face the possibility of being abandoned. So he self-destructs all over Sand (he tells himself he wanted to end the relationship, not that the relationship was never real) and this completes the self-fulfilling prophecy and everything he’s ever told himself and why he hates himself is “proven” again: that he is just a burden, his only worth is his money, no one cares about him. He knows deep down that this isn’t true, but it’s easier to fulfill the prophecy than counter it bc countering it means facing his greatest fear: the possibility of being abandoned.

It was so comforting to see him face that fear and go back to Sand in episode 11 🥹 his love for Sand was more powerful and he just couldn’t bear to lose him. His abandonment issues certainly aren’t resolved (probably why he keeps suggesting threesomes as a way to force Sand to choose him and/or providing the opportunity to fulfill his abandonment prophecy) and I’m guessing it will continue to crop up in his relationship with Sand after this whole Boeing thing gets (hopefully) resolved until he finally is able to truly feel safe. (That’s another thing for abandonment issues people, we rarely feel “safe”, oftentimes security comes from knowing you’ll be abandoned bc that is the only constant). The only upside to Ray never letting himself believe he is actually worth something his whole life is that he hasn’t let himself trust people and then be abandoned all over again so there are less hurdles to jump over. Sand is a very patient and understanding person (sometimes to his detriment) so I think with even basic communication, they should be able to work through this together fairly quickly.

saw this in my inbox this morning and was like “oh i so cannot read that before going to class, i’ll lose it” and here i am, having lost it. and you’re so so right with everything you said.

it’s kind of funny, though, that you bring up relating heavily to ray and somewhat to sand cause i’m the opposite sjdkekd i relate a LOT to sand and can still see myself in small bits in ray. they’re both incredibly real and well written characters and its very clear what their motivations are and why they make certain choices, even if logically we know they should do other things. really i feel that way about all the characters in this show, which is why it’s so frustrating to me when people cherry pick who to be mad at and can’t be understanding of their motivations at all. this week it was sand and while i get people are protective of ray, it’s not sand’s fault that ray feels this way. yes, sand needs to be firm with boeing, but not because it’s hurting ray but because it’s hurting sand. its not sand’s responsibility to make sure ray never gets scared that sand’s gonna leave because there’s no way to prevent that because like you said, ray has abandonment issues and those are gonna keep sneaking in no matter what sand does or doesn’t do. and that’s why it’s good he’s in therapy and also why sand should probably join him because my baby needs to learn to value himself

Milo’s just a really great boyfriend who shows love with a combination of Quality Time and Acts of Service with little sprinkles of Gifts. It’s not just time spent with you, it’s time spent engaging in the things that interest you and make you happy. It’s the time thinking of you when you’re apart and bringing home fun, new candles he saw at the store. Although he is definitely not opposed to physical touch- y’all have a lot of cuddle nights, just you and him and Aggro.

Guy is absolutely a Swiftie and a musical theater kid, okay? Erik hasn’t confirmed it, but I know it in my spleen to be true, so he’s a fantastic runner-up for that reason. Vincent is a runner-up because he adores but despises that you stick to one pair of torn-up shoes and constantly showers you in luxury footwear. I think that’s cute.

for gan's main verse, he went from 0 to 100 with @perditos's zelda, and by this i mean "ganondorf doesn't understand that he can't just IMMEDIATELY decide to try and court someone he literally just met" (elsa vc YOU CAN'T MARRY SOMEONE YOU JUST MET) - there are red flags in her story but all flags are red flags when you're wearing rose colored glasses! he's fascinated by her and for anyone following the thread, he's really just taking his shot and he's got not the slightest clue that things are going to go to shit no matter what he feels for her or what she feels for him! he's so curious about her and she is also curious about him! he hasn't experienced anyone of hylia's blood who was Interested in LEARNING about him or his people before, so honestly that's some top tier things right there!

for his pkmn verse, which is still a MASSIVE work in progress, he's rather infatuated with yuri (@moonkssd)- they have a great sun/moon dynamic in the way of "gan is sun and lion coded and you can pry that from my cold dead hands" which leads to yuri being a moon maiden and having a dude who is like the sun- they compliment each other there!

actually, now that i look at it ... both his ships so far are sun/moon coded ... i think that's very sexy of me and my writing partners! we know where it's at!

on the note of how to win gan's heart, be patient with him! as in, understand that he has some real problems, and while he can be quite charming and charismatic, he's also ... really a bastard lmao. he seeks power and there's a place he wants to take over (usually hyrule but honestly verse dependent, whatever i can work in lmao) and nothing is going to stop him from trying- don't try to change him, gan is, pun absolutely intended, rather pig-headed about how he does things. if he wants to change, he'll do it on his own accord. loving someone won't stop him from making bad choices- heck, per his main verse, he wants to give zelda hyrule as a wedding present-

he likes others who are also curious. he's drawn toward those who are wise and those who are courageous (match his wit, stand up to him even when he's at his worst, that's a surefire way to get his attention in the best way!)- and whether or not that's a triforce thing or just something he has learned to value in others over time is??? who cares, it all leads to the same point. he will be more willing to open up if someone shows genuine interest in learning about him and the gerudo instead of immediately slapping down stereotypes- which is done all too often (looking at you, rauru!)

other fun things: gan loves to cuddle! his love language is absolutely physical touch, so if he's getting to the point of casual touches (read: i have this thing about the symbolism of hands and whatnot and something something about gan has hands with the power to create or destroy, to hurt or to heal- i'll die on this hill too!) it's a good indication that he likes someone a lot!
