finished s7 and i have a lot of thoughts. im gonna miss sasha sooooo bad 💔💔💔💔💔💔 anyways these are a little sadder than last time + one bonus NSFW (but not anything super nasty)

never really learned table manners because of his home conditions and is SUPER embarrassed about that, so he doesn't eat much around other people

dyslexic and never knew it until the events of the show; chalked it up to being "dumb" his whole life until Rick pressed the subject and Daryl admitted that the letters move and look weird and Rick pieced it together

the only kids show he watched regularly as a kid was the muppet show. he had old tapes of it at home even after it stopped airing and would watch it for comfort when he was all alone in the house

he would have liked Sesame Street when he was little except the big hairy elephant puppet scared him 💔

was Baptist as a kid but it never meant anything to him and he's not religious now. he thinks that if God exists he's an asshole and he's gonna have to beg for Daryl's forgiveness

Maggie shows him how to garden at Hilltop so he helps out with that a lot

when he has a bed to sleep in he likes to hug a pillow

misses Merle like there's a hole inside him and it doesn't matter how horrible he was to him

shows love through tiny acts that can be passed off. sewing the buttons back on people's clothes, folding up their laundry, cooking for the younger ones

awesome with children. was asked to supervise some kids for somebody at the Kingdom and felt like he owed them a little labor and now he's "uncle Daryl" to every kid under 13. he told them off about it the first few times but lets it slide now

says those southern phrases that nobody understands except southerners. shit like "im busier than a one-eyed cat watching two mouseholes" and "shit fire and save matches" like the most RIDICULOUS turns of phrase you have ever heard (my source is that im southern and those are things my parents have said for years)

love languages are acts of service and quality time, but he does actually enjoy being told he's done something correctly

shockingly really good at cooking from all those years fending for himself, just tends to know a lot of weird alternatives for ingredients he couldn't find

likes girly fruity drinks but doesn't drink much after Beth died

doesn't like to be hugged by anybody other than Carol but feels so safe around her that he likes to be constantly touching her all the time

Daryl Dixon Headcanons

got to the part in s7 where Daryl makes it back to Hilltop. OUGHHHH my shayla 💔💔💔💔💔 anyways Daryl is my fave and these have been cooking a while

likes Legos. i think the pipeline would be that he found a set of them on a run and brought them back for Carl and Carl asked him to help. he likes all the little intricate pieces and parts, kinda for the same reason he likes working with cars and bikes

DEFINITELY owned a dirtbike as a kid

likes the little honeysuckle flowers and will still stop to take one when he finds them

has been hunting for most of his life (obviously) but took up the crossbow because he hated the sound of a gun going off

his dad owned a lot of guns so he had a negative association with them before the outbreak and just had to learn to deal with it after

really cautious about making fire pits after what happened to his mom

got blackout drunk after Beth died and then never drank again

can't stand even the smell of peach schnapps

sweet tooth but doesn't get much of a chance to have sweets; Carol used to sneak him chocolate in Alexandria when she got some to make cookies

really likes cherries and peaches

took in a stray cat as a kid and never named it, just called it 'kitty' or 'cat,' but it got scared off when he dad was yelling and raving and he never found it again so he stopped keeping pets

always seems really mean to people who don't know him when they try to get acquainted but he's just insanely awkward

doesn't have the best social skills because he didn't have good examples growing up and was often isolated from other people

plays dress up with Judith whenever she wants

he always felt aroace to me and i cannot explain this

but he generally just feels queer to me can someone back me up on that

he seems like one of those characters the writers are going to give a gf just so people stop thinking he's gay

got REALLY protective over Maggie after Glenn died; he'll feel terrible forever that his bad decision was part of the reason Glenn got killed but Maggie never blamed him for it

has nightmares of talking to Glenn's headless body in the cell he was kept in

wanted to be a dad but feels like he's too old and that he wouldn't be any good at it anyway

has never seen, heard of, or spoken the word 'chapstick' in his life. i know them lips are dry as a BONE

is used to sleeping curled up in a ball because he was always on the run and sleeping any other way made him feel vulnerable but he fucking starfished across the bed they gave him at Alexandria. like i mean he took up the ENTIRE mattress by himself

deliberately does not take painkillers when he has pains because he thinks it makes him stronger

would probably like gardening if anyone taught him to do it

Daryl, Negan, & Abusers

Hi! I started watching The Walking Dead recently and just hit s7, and I had some thoughts to share about his dynamic with Negan because I gave it a little thought and I really like the way it's written. (Note that I'm only on s7e5, so this won't be entirely accurate, but there are spoilers for TWD up to that point.)

I was honestly confused at first as to why Daryl really doesn't seem frightened of Negan, at least not in a way that matters, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

Firstly, Daryl was abused for most of his childhood and this is a known fact. The only person who loved him in any capacity was inconsistent and also likely volatile. He has never known stability, safety, or comfort. Daryl grew up around really violent, cruel men.

Secondly, Daryl, throughout this show, has known (and killed!) a lot of really awful, abusive men. He didn't kill Ed, but we know that he knows about Carol's abuse and this is part of the reason he's so protective of her. Daryl is consistently very protective of women and children.

Lastly, The Walking Dead is honestly pretty good at portraying abusers. Pete, Ed, Gorman (the police officer that was abusing Beth at Grady Memorial) and his friends. Sometimes, in lots of different media, abusers are portrayed as horrifying, sometimes powerful people (particularly men) who are almost omnipotent in their control of the abused. The Walking Dead doesn't do this. Abusers in this show are small. They're weak. They are only alive because someone else is defending them or by luck. They are not brave, they don't contribute anything, and they're not powerful. They're just men. Ed controlled Carol's every action, and then got clipped by zombies in the first season of the show! And that was all! Pete was a coward who was only kept around because he just so happened to be useful.

Daryl understands that Negan is a threat, but there's a difference between being afraid and being wary. He's not scared of Negan because he knows Negan is just one man. One really awful, cruel, mean man, but that's all. Negan only has any day at all because he controls other people, and he can only do that by making other people afraid. Negan has no other skills. He won't grow his own food, won't get his own weapons, won't scavenge for himself. The only reason Negan is alive is because people allow him to be cruel and to take. Without Negan's group, he's got nothing at all, and Daryl *knows* that.

I had to get this off my chest because so far I really love the way this show has portrayed abusers and cops, especially for a show that came out in the same general time period and TV era as shows like Supernatural that aren't always the best at tackling serious themes.

Viktor

has the most beautiful curly calligraphy handwriting ever but it's so curly and fancy you genuinely can't read it

fidgeting with stuff all the time. paperclips, pencils, clips, rubber bands, the buttons on his vest

bonus to that one: he messes with his vest buttons so much that Jayce is constantly having to sew them back on when they come off

chronic nail biter

big sweet tooth

great cook but a shitty baker

"get even" kind of person; probably holds grudges from the second grade

doesn't cry very often but can be sensitive in the sense that he cares very much how his closest friends view him and internalizes their opinions

love languages are words of affirmation and acts of service

likes to be touched but not held (autism)

hates winter because it makes his joints hurt, summer is unbearably hot and he can't stand it, he has spring allergies; default fall enjoyer

animals really like him and strays tend to show up at the lab or follow him around

children like Viktor. Viktor doesn't like children back

kids will sometimes randomly talk to him and tell him things in public and he doesn't have the heart to be mean to them or ignore them so he just sits there like "mhm ☺️" while they talk until their parents apologize and walk off

probably has a pet reptile (a turtle or some kind of lizard methinks)

cold natured and wears seven hundred billion blankets to bed every night no matter the season

identifies as male in the sense that he was born a man and just never bothered to think much about it but doesn't fully grasp the concept or purpose of gender. could tell you what makes a man a man or what makes a woman a woman but doesn't understand why nor care

interested in jayce from the beginning but never felt as if he was in competition with Mel

not very affectionate because he doesn't know how to discuss his own feelings but very good at soothing other people

AMAZING at drawing. like if he didn't have the passion for science he would be an artist. he draws out all their diagrams and blueprints and Viktor labels them

can cook pretty well but doesn't like to do it; if he stays at Viktor's place then Viktor always cooks for him

likes baking because he controls every single thing that goes in and it's very exact

both he and Viktor have chronic pain in their hands (carpal tunnel) from spending all their time taking notes and working with small delicate parts

he doesn't complain about his even when it bothers him because it feels silly knowing how bad Viktor's pain is every day 💔💔💔💔

10,000 step haircare routine but Viktor's looks better anyway

used to be prone to acne as a teen (if accutane existed in arcane he would have been an accutane kid)

shaved regularly pre-hexcore because his father had facial hair and he looks a lot like his dad anyway; he was always a little worried if he grew it out it would remind Ximena too much of his dad and make her sad

took entire days off of work and pushed deadlines back when Viktor got bad just so he could stay with him when Viktor was in too much pain to do practically anything

used to deliberately sleep in the lab because Viktor would stay late and he didn't want Viktor to be alone in case he passed out or something happened

love languages are physical touch, gift giving, and quality time

money doesn't exist to him when he's buying other people things. can't do secret santas at Christmas bc he constantly exceeds the budget

simultaneously one of those people who legitimately cannot accept gifts and feels bad when people give him things

was genuinely so in love with Mel; used to have dreams about marrying her and living somewhere quiet with her

most definitely forgave her for manipulating him on the council and understood her but it was just never the same
