suguru’s similarities to yuuta are literally impossible to ignore and you lose a lot of nuance by doing so ….. imo. especially because it’s so blatant. like. the novel describing them both as too sincere, the fact that they’re both too affected by the horrors around them to be able to live in the world but suguru’s response is to give his actions meaning and pretend to care about righteousness while yuuta rejects morality and straight up tells geto he doesn’t care what’s right or wrong. he chooses love and that’s why he wins. they’re the two characters in the series who are most defined by love but with yuuta it’s this shameless thing that keeps him afloat, with geto it’s . a big bag or rocks he literally cannot let go off even as he dies

Bo Laurent created the Intersex Society of North America in 1993, starting the intersex rights movement in the United States. Describing the founding of ISNA, they wrote:
"Over the course of a year, simply by speaking openly within my own social circles, I learned of six other intersexuals--including two who had been fortunate enough to escape medical attention. I realized that intersexuality, rather than being extremely rare, must be relatively common. I decided to create a support network. In the summer of 993, I produced some pamphlets, obtained a post office box, and began to publicize the Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) through small notices in the media. Before long, I was receiving several letters per week from intersexuals throughout the United States and Canada and occasionally some from Europe. While the details varied, the letters gave a remarkably coherent picture of the emotional consequences of medical intervention. Morgan Holmes: "All the things my body might have grown to do, all the possibilities, went down the hall with my amputated clitoris to the pathology department. The rest of me went to the recovery room--I'm still recovering." Angela Moreno: "I am horrified by what has been done to me and by the conspiracy of silence and lies. I am filled with grief and rage, but also relief finally to believe that maybe I am not the only one." Thomas: "I pray that I will have the means to repay, in some measure, the American Urological Association for all that it has done for my benefit. I am having some trouble, though, in connecting the timing mechanism to the fuse."
ISNA's most immediate goal has been to create a community of intersex people who could provide peer support to deal with shame, stigma, grief, and rage, as well as with practical issues such as how to obtain old medical records or locate a sympathetic psychotherapist or endocrinologist. To that end, I cooperated with journalizes whom I judged capable of reporting widely and responsibly on our efforts, listed ISNA with self-help and referral clearinghouses, and established a presence on the internet. ISNA now connects hundreds of intersexuals across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. It has also begun sponsoring an annual intersex retreat, the first of which took place in 1996 and which moved participants every bit as profoundly as the New Woman conference had moved me in 1993.
ISNA's longer-term and more fundamental goal, however, is to change the way intersex infants are treated. We advocated that surgery not be performed on ambiguous genitals unless there is a medical reason (such as blocked or painful urination), and that parents be given the conceptual tools and emotional support to accept their children's physical differences...To provide a counterpoint to the mountains of medical literature that neglect intersex experience and to begin compiling an ethnographic account of that experience, ISNA's Hermaphrodites with Attitude newsletter has developed into a forum for intersexuals to tell their own stories.
...When I established ISNA in 1993, no such politicized groups existed. I was less willing to think of intersexuality as a pathology or disability, more interested in challenging its medicalization entirely, and more interested still in politicizing a pan-intersexual identity across the divisions of particular etiologies in order to destabilize more effectively the heteronormative assumptions underlying the violence directed at our bodies."
-Cheryl Chase, Mapping the Emergence of Intersex Political Activism, Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, 1998, 189-211.

Idk it's just exhausting to watch a show reward the fascist cop, punish the suicidal mentally ill "terrorist," and then watch an entire fandom go "you're stupid and media illiterate for being annoyed with this choice and also you hate sapphics you stupid sapphic."
I support womens wrongs but Aracane was soooo copaganda it was honestly embarrassing for them.

Intersectionality is something that, sadly, is often pushed to the side in Arcane discussions, specifically from a certain side of that fandom. They will go on and on about Viktor, as they usually do, talking about how he suffers from classicism and ableism within the show and fandom respectively (as they should as these are issues, but there is a catch when it comes to these fans as well), but when others in the fandom, especially Mel or even Sky fans, point out the racism and misogyny (misogynoir) that is often rampant in this fandom, particularly from said fans mentioned prior, all of a sudden its not possible or being overdramatized. Like they suddenly can't understand how some of their rhetoric includes or invites the same thing black fans have been calling out since the beginning, because how can you discuss the ableism and such that Viktor faces, but laugh or joke around with people who call Mel slurs or just denounce her to a trope? I thought you were for calling out forms of hate within fandom, or does your "activism" only stretch so far? And back to a previous statement, about the catch regarding those particularly fans----some of them regurgitate the same harmful rhetoric towards Viktor that they say they supposedly hate, just in mode subtle ways. How are you going to say you hate when Viktor is infantilized, but will be quick to forget he's a grown man who can defend himself (often when trying to pair him against Mel, framing her as the aggressor, and sometimes even Jayce too but to a lesser degree)? Not saying Jayce doesn't get equal amounts of hate, but his more so gets pushed aside along with his character to ultimately frame Viktor in higher regard, often making him ooc. It's like they pick and choose when the issues are prevalent, and when they aren't, and it's so frustrating.
#and it's so annoying to see as someone who for actually doesn't mind/kind of likes viktor as a character bc whenever i try to interact more#with him in fandom these types of fans make it so hard bc they overwhelm you with things that are so out of character that they practically#rewrite arcane to where viktor becomes overt stereotypes and looses what made him interesting to begin with#like you can hardly find analysis on his character at the end of s2 and how that is ACTUALLY SAD without getting the 3rd degree or see#j*yviks paint it as romantic#and it's very gross how they often frame viktor in this way to frame poc characters (like mel or jayce) as aggressors while ignoring how#everyone in arcane is flawed (including viktor) to different degrees and how characters can disagree without actually hating one another#(this is especially prevalent regarding melvik where people act like it can't happen bc mel “looked at viktor wrong”#but will be the same people to ship jayvik even though jayce was classicst as well....noticing)#but it's very weird how they only always talk about mel in regards to how she is around viktor & nothing else but complain about how mel#fans don't understand her---which is bs bc you'd be hard pressed to find many mel fans who don't write 1k thesis on her#heck some even say that the council bombing was justified even with mel being there!#and if they really want to go into detail about how mel's class and inaction impacts zaun fine go ahead but why stay silent#when people point out how she eventually changed and strived to help them or how viktor ended up causing more harm than good down the line?#like these could be great narrative stories for how one character starts with wanting to help those in need but becomes corrupted by his#own ambition and ends up becoming a bigger threat than what he and others like him suffered with before#but no it's easy for them to paint mel = bad and viktor = smol who can do no wrong#arcane#anti arcane fandom#arcane viktor#arcane mel#mel medarda#fandom criticism#fandom racism#fandom misogyny#also bc you can tell these people are on some bs bc they'll rave about how mel didn't care about zaun (which is untrue) but turn around and#say “but jayce-” like he wasn't causing zaun trouble as well#like im all for being critical about mel's complacency about zaun and all but don't act like jayce is any better#matter of fact why even try to do that? what purpose did it serve when there's literally proof against your point? hmm

Tim drake could be so interesting, something more than “shows up 15 minutes late with a venti espresso & designer eye bags to solve a problem that the entire bat team was stumped on” in fanons case, or “the only Robin who was worth a damn, the only teammate who was ever close to Bruce’s level” in canons case.
He was like, what? 13 when he forced Batman to take him on as robin? 13 or 14 when he belittled and put down a dead kid? 14 ish when he belittled and talked down to Steph? 17 when he fought a 10 year old and put him on a hit list?
Tim was an upper middle class to wealthy white kid. He didn’t know shit about shit. Being exposed to the wider world as Robin, and by being on teams with people from different strata’s of life could have opened his eyes to experiences different from what he grew up with and helped him to realize that he doesn’t know shit and isn’t better than others.
Teenagers are stupid and self centered, and Tim realizing that, that the things he said and did were rude and mean (in Steph’s case) or downright cruel (in Jason and Damian’s case) could be really interesting.
But fanons stuck in a “Poor tim! Little baby Tim! He’s so meek and timid!” Like this mother fucker didn’t tell Jason that he is the better Robin during a brutal beat down. And DC’s stuck in “Tim’s the best of us all! And still Robin! And will one day be Batman!” Like this mother fucker doesn’t turn into an authoritarian dictator with that mantle in the future.
I don’t like to yuck other fans yums, and I get that Tim’s Robin is a self insert Robin, but I really will rip out my eyes if I see anything even approaching ‘Dick wanted to throw Tim in Arkham’. Dick told Tim to consider therapy, for fucks sake. Or, ‘Tim could have withstood getting beaten by the Joker’. Could Tim have withstood the bomb? The bomb that killed Jason? Tim’s got special bomb proof skin and organs and bones? I didn’t even read the Damian one. What would be the point? I don’t like seeing many interpretations of that run of Batman comics on tumblr since most Tim stans just butcher Damian and blame a kid raised in a cult who was being iced out by his father for acting out. Like, Damian was a kid. A kid kid, not a teenager close to being a legal adult.
I am just tired. I want to like Tim, I want to like the canon bisexual Bat! but by god it’s hard when other characters around him are flattened to make him seem more capable, or villainized to better baby him.
Just. Read a comic. Enjoy what you enjoy, but just read a comic.
(Side note: Cass should be Batman. Dick’s the best of them all, save maybe Superman. Every Robin was great, and did an amazing job. And Damian’s still a fucking kid and deserves better.)

“The Southern Raiders is a perfect example of why Zutara doesn’t work." (OP commentary available).
reddit post here. fire heats up water; water calms fire.
Zuko allows Katara to choose what she wants, & ultimately K elects not to murder Yon Rha. a significant concept in all 3 stories in this series—as a whole—& individual characters is choices. Z keeps K grounded in a manner Aang can’t.
whether they consciously acknowledge that or not, Z’s family is what happens when you let revenge consume. going on this field trip is crucial for both of them in becoming different people. i doubt K saw the advantage of taking anyone else. without K confronting The Southern Raiders, i doubt the message of “being different than your current self is always one action away” is something Z truly believed.
Aang is The Avatar; it is really difficult to separate him from that; he wouldn’t let go of K with Guru Patik. the idea of revenge is so unlikely for A as an Airbender, & Avatar. keep in mind that A “slept” on his duty for centuries; he was a kid, afraid & unprepared for wars. Z & K aren’t. it’s hard not to hear command when A spoke.
now, you could argue that Z would have gotten an education of world with Toph or Sokka but both are unlikely. Toph, an expert fighter, was sheltered otherwise & blind. Sokka is a non-bender.
this essay could continue. let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.

my sister keeps insisting i need to make a video essay about h*zbin/h*lluva/v*vz*epop but as cathartic as that would be i can’t help but think it would just make things worse…. im not even sure i have enough to add to the conversation to justify making such a thing
it runs into the territory of the “____ is Garbage and Here’s Why” video essays that at worst are just bad-faith CinemaSins ripoffs disguised as essays & at best are just redundant rants that don’t seem to have any real purpose or say anything insightful
