Idk it's just exhausting to watch a show reward the fascist cop, punish the suicidal mentally ill "terrorist," and then watch an entire fandom go "you're stupid and media illiterate for being annoyed with this choice and also you hate sapphics you stupid sapphic."
I support womens wrongs but Aracane was soooo copaganda it was honestly embarrassing for them.

tbh my latest biggest theory for why HoO and onwards is such a dramatic drop in quality and consistency is just. Rick stopped making teaching guides.
Like, the Lightning Thief teacher's guide is SUPER in-depth with even stuff like sources about middle grade child psychology and exact specifications of where he's applying that, explaining what different character's goals/motivations are, their dynamics with each other and their environments, etc etc. Even specifying which specific myths certain plot elements are supposed to reference or be about.
That stuff just doesn't exist for later books. There's activity guides and smaller, significantly more simple teacher guides for later books but they don't go into anywhere NEAR the same level of depth. The TLT one is a full lesson plan that breaks down the book at every level and explains what's going on and more or less why Rick did that. The others are all basically just glossaries of terminology and some simple question guides.
And they didn't even use the TLT teacher's guide for the Disney+ show because they clearly aren't adhering to any of what's discussed in that breakdown of the book.
By creating a teaching guide alongside writing the actual book, that's forcing you to document what you're doing, why, your sources, and information about your characters and the story they're in. It's like an even more in-depth version of a series bible. But that's lacking for later books (and etc) and it shows because that level of thought and depth and attention just isn't there anymore.

The big problem with Rauru Tears of the Kingdom 2023's writing is that he acts as if he's owed everything and owns everyone --even when he cloaks it with the veneer of care, selflessness, or tragedy.
And if only this had been a conscious writing choice, explored and unearthed through the course of the game, he could have been the most interesting and layered Legend of Zelda character of all time. 😔

This has to be the last thing I say on C3 finale because otherwise, I will not stop, it simply baffles me in its mediocrity. And obviously, this will be negative, if you loved it, good for you, this is my takeaway as someone who loved this campaign and was severely let down.
This finale changes everything that came before and not for good, better yet, it emphasizes all the faults in the structure of what c3 tried to be, it made most of the campaign feel like a true exercise in futility — How far can we go in a campaign that is meandering and unsatisfying? How long can we have the same discussion over and over and over again despite everyone knowing how this will end? How long can we drag out characters that don't change without anyone noticing? (spoiler everyone noticed)
Can't say I was emotionally invested in the finale because I tapped out back in the 70s, came back for Aeor/Downfall shenanigans, and left again. But in experiencing the finale something became clear to me:
THIS STORY NEEDED TO BE SHORTER.
WITH ANOTHER PARTY AT THE HELM.
If the objective from the very conception of C3 was to wipe out the gods, that had to be clear from the very start. And it wasn't clear, at all — not in the characters, not in the starting city, not in theme. This was a completely different campaign at the start! That clarity was what made Calamity so great, it was short and precise, and every pc SERVICED THE THEME, filled with hubris and contempt, not to mention the setting.
Even Ludinus went in circles for convenience of the campaign length and became a weaker opponent for it, more of a nuisance than a villain. The threat he posed at episode 50 was much stronger than now at 120 something. The battle against Otohan was more nail-biting and emotionally engaging than fighting Ludinus and Predathos, a god eater!!!!
This campaign would've benefited from three to four acts instead of one overarching objective like the past campaigns because urgency is the name of the game and we can't carry urgency for 70 episodes straight (and they didn't).
The constant inclusion of the other parties made it clear how easy it was to detach BH from the story, how easy and fun it was for them to tell it through another party's eyes (one of the main reasons why I walked away back when I did, but that's more of a personal preference).
Which is not to say Bells Hell's didn't deserve a long story! They could very well have existed in a more intimate campaign which these characters were clearly built for! Their premises begged for closer looks in slow moments, something tragicomical, exploration of the inner world while developing MARQUET and its microcosm of injustice and politics which was left in the dust mid-campaign (pun intended).
And I'm not suggesting this just for our enjoyment, I know it's them playing and their enjoyment comes first blah blah, though this is a multi-million company therefore their jobs but this would contribute to their enjoyment! You could see several moments in the campaign how tapped out they felt and acted. I doubt it was "fun" discussing the gods situation ad naseaum, trudging through landscapes they barely cared about, with empty arcs.
I could nitpick every fault I see in the finale but it would be pointless, these issues have been dragged from ages ago and poor character matching, and now this is a culmination of everything and it barely fazes me anymore.
(And yeah it's their game and it's "free", but that doesn't undermine its weight as a story, stories were made be analyzed, and it was a poorly structured one no matter how much I still like and admire them as people.)
WHICH is not to say I had no fun at all ever, I did! several times! and that's what makes me upset, it could've been great instead is just meh.

Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and how “ability users” (opposite to “normal people”) learning to accept themselves through the acceptance of their own abilities is a queer metaphor of acceptance of own's sexual orientation and gender: an essay by me
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#About: Dead Apple. Watched this a while ago with a friend and it was a lot of fun!!!#If you're reading this: thank you so much for hanging out with me I had such a good time (ㅅ´ ˘ )♡#Next to general considerations: wow they were right that Bungou Stray Dogs movie sure can Bungou Stray Dogs#It's always nice to see the detailed animation and elaborate backgrounds of movies. The animation quality compared to the manga is–#definitely noticeable and it's nice to see. That said... I still like the season 2 art style more? And I'm speaking strictly of art style.#The s2 one looks more soft and smooth while the da one is so much more rough.#The plot is... Very bsd-esque I don't think there's anything to add.#In my opinion Kyouka's arc is the one that turned out best tbh. I really like her narrative development and personal growth in this movie.#I like the complexity of her state of mind. how full of contradiction she is. I especially appreciate the recurring small changes of–#expression that indicate how she thinks differently from Atsushi even if she doesn't voice them. The fight between her cynicism and her–#kind nature. It's all very interesting.#Atsushi's development is interesting too. Although all the open questions about his ability we still have kind of leave me frustrated#I don't feel very strongly about Akutagawa in this movie? I mean‚ he's there. The ss/kk scenes are always great and in character and a joy–#to witness no matter what they do. He just doesn't shine particularly? Or at least personally I dont find the “proving my strength against–#myself” narrative arc to be particularly interesting. Imo it was a lot better flashed out in the da stage play! With the complexity that–#the dialogues with Chuuya added to the character. Dazai attacking him. And especially Aktgw understanding that Rashomon wasn't testing Aktg#but rather only expressing that unstoppable rage that is also Aktgw's own. About that I checked out the play and I really liked it!!#I only watched highlights (aka: ss/kk and chuu/aku scenes) but there's some stuff I really like. I like the conflict between Aktgw and–#Chuuya and how Chuuya messes up with Aktgw at first maliciously and then amiably. It's interesting how Atsushi himself observes that Kyouka#and Akutagawa get along. And especially the sskk almost-handholding and Atsushi saying Akutagawa has a nice profile were cute akjdhbsawhjb#Next. Da really is shipping paradise (╥﹏╥) Sorry but... It is. oda/zai. daz/atsu. ss/kk. s/kk. fuku/mori. chuu/aku. It really has everythin#and the moments are so good!!!! What else. Wish we'd see more of Tsujimura. And Christie. And women in general tbh.#Also‚‚‚‚‚ Atsushi's tiger form in this movie is ATROCIOUS. I've said it before but it's crazy how a franchises that relies so heavily on–#fanservice came up with something this hideous. Man the movie overall was pretty but Atsushi sure wasn't. Firmly stand by the belief–#that only Akutagawa would find that form attractive.#Oh last note. honestly if we're ready to accept a movie where an antidote has effect AFTER the person has effectively died then we really–#can't complain about any kind of insanity the manga brings up#random rambles

god i will never stop fawning over how absolutely SPECTACULAR afo vs bakugou was. genuinely one of the best fights in the entire manga in terms of art, the themes, the pararells, the gayness, the fight itself, and just. everything about it makes me wanna scream into my pillow and chew on it
#MIND YOU this was the fight that made me interested in afos character#ugh like i shouldve known bakugou was gonna take on afo ... like i knew him and izuku were gonna take on shigafo#cus of the whole win to save save to win thing#and its perfect for shigafo cus yk!#but i didnt know tomura manage to break free out of afos grasp early on#(which srry tomura for not having faith lol)#but yeah pitting bakugou against the guy was fucking amazing#like theres so much layers to it#like first off making bakugou(and izuku) fulfill the save to win thing by rescuing all might from afo#like how all might did in the kamino arc with bkg but this time bkg didnt'end' all might he was the one who saved him#AND THE FACT THIS WAS FILMED TOO JUST LIKE BEFORE#BAKUGOU WOULD NOT BE KNOW AS THE ONE THAT ENDED ALL MIGHT BUT THE ONE THAT SAVED HIM#AND FUCKK bakugou and afo.......amazing foils seriously#boys with gifted powers but one grew up with almost nothing and the other grew up with love#they both turned out shitty but only one of them actually changed for the better#afo in a way is like bakugou past self. hes fighting on what he couldve been if he let his ego take hold on his mind#and no bakugou did not solely defeat afo himself . and god my boy is so grown he KNOWs if it werent for everyone elses effort#he wouldnt be able to take this bitch down#bakugou i love you so so much#you are such an excellent character fuckkkk#and afo...... well you see what happened to him. fitting end to someone who thought highly of himself#died in a pathetic subpar way. fighting an injured teenage boy lmao#OH AND SAID TEENAGE BOY THAT LOOKS LIKE HIS OLD NEMESIS LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO#ive said this before but bakugou is afos karmic incarnation#i CANNOTTTT wait for volume 40 to drop. possible dawn of quirks era content afo character page (please) and yoichi/kudou colored by hori?#bakugou katsuki#mha all for one#mha manga spoilers#OH AND bakugou telling afo to shut the fuck up!?!?!?!?!?!?!? AND PROCEEDS TO BEAT HIS ASS IN 3 DOUBLE SPREADS????? MY FUCKING GOAT.#dahlia.txt

Do you ship lawbin?
Tumblr media
I don't exactly ship them but I don't hate the ship either.. Just neutral, I guess? It's such a harmless ship but massively hated for no reason lmao.
I discovered it was a thing only after Sawyer7mage talked about them in a chapter review (good reviewer btw! some sarcasms he made here reminded me that he's a professional therapist pfff) Initially I didn't like the idea but some valid points have been raised in favor of the ship by him and others. Law/Robin don't have a lot going together so far, but public opinion can be easily swayed if Oda lets them interact more. Given the recent developments in late Wano, the chance is quite high.
Only problem is that these two seem to be drawn towards the type of people that are opposite of each other. Robin had flirted with larger and older men who aren't "conventionally attractive", and Law's buddies are all silly little fellows with little pride who like to pamper him all the time. But fanarts like this by @/takara_op did a great job convincing me that they'd be pretty fun to follow as a duo 👍🏼
Oda's depiction of Law and love and his character dynamic with women is an entirely different topic and I have a year old draft meta on this,,,,maybe I should post it some day 🫠 doesn't have much Lawbin in it though

i still haven’t written out my 261 metapost but i can’t stop thinking about the stsg subtext in that chapter . the parallels between geto slaughtering the village and gojo slaughtering the higher ups…. the fact that gojo does it right after declaring that he has to “catch up” to geto
#IT’S SOOOOOOO#i will die defending gege akutami’s character writing i’m sorry#i think the shinjuku arc is sloppy when it comes to pacing and some technical fight stuff#but character writing wise it’s SO fucking good it’s so incredible it drives me insane#character writing AND relationship writing#which imo are gege’s strongest points aside from fight choreography#like it just . drives me insane#it’s such an interesting line!!!#he needs to Catch Up to geto. he needs to make a choice for himself not knowing if it’s right or wrong just like he did#he needs to carry through with an extreme action to get the change he wants .#instead of the slow “root cause” method that he himself implemented#(which for the record would have been smarter in geto’s case but for gojo’s goal extreme violence Works )#i also think that on some level it’s like … kinda proving geto’s point?#“you could do it satoru.” he has the power to change the world almost however he wants and he finally used it#at the expense of his own morality and sense of reason. which does turn him into a “monster” narratively i think#i mean . obviously i don’t think gojo killing the higher ups makes him a bad person 😭 it’s a very big deal for gojo’s character though!!#he’s always been capable of cold pragmatism. and he’s always been willing to get his hands bloodied .#but NOT with humans/sorcerers and that’s the really big distinction . he’s not psychotic. he never has been.#i think gojo was probably scared when he decided to go through with it. because it really is him trading a piece of his humanity away#:((((((((((((#aughhhhhhhh gege akutami i love you but when i fucking catch youuuuuuuuuu#anyway i should rlly save all this for the metapost but 😭 i needed to get it out….#ari noises ✩#meta ✩#jjk manga spoilers#jjk spoilers#jjk 261

sometimes i forget people didn't read the books and don't know Illario was extremely dumbed down in Veilguard, and i see takes and i have a double take like "well no that's not true he's not l--" and then i remember that i have a total different understanding of Illario than someone who only played the game because I consider Book!Illario better and have a very complicated headcanons to try to connect Book!Illario and Game!Illario together but if i had a choice i'd disregard Game!Illario in a fucking heardbeat
and then i see takes based solly on his Game characterization and i get scandalized for a second before the grief of "right the Game made 0 effort with this character" really hits me and i feel sad again
#lots of people are saying the Game is overly reliant on extended material but i'm mixed on that#on one hand: yes it is if you want to care about say Evka or Antoine and learn more about Lucanis and Neve and Illario#... but also it's not because the game's characterization are so different they might as well be different characters#and you'll just suffer trying to reconcile the two together#Book!Illario is so fucking cool and interesting and he made me cry in The Wake#in the game he's just a parody of Scar with no substance#where is the man who freed slaves for Lucanis despite him calling Lucanis out for it#where is 'I was always following him everywherE... now there is no one else to follow...'#also tbh i think the artbook kinda hints that Originally it's ZARA who manipulated Illario not the other way around#something got switched around for the cheapest unwarranted twist of all time#i see people call Zara 'whats her name' bc she's so forgettable and i lose years of my life considering how dope her intro is in the book#all of this to cheapen Illario. it fucking sucks.#sorry i saw someone say Illario was bad at manipulating and i almost started to complain#and then suddenly i remembered how different Book! and Game! Illario were and i wanted to cry#i complain about Solas a lot but i hate Lucanis' arc almost just as much#having loved the books for 4 years before the game just did so much to destroy me#and no im sorry it's not as bad as the DAI related books.#im going to cry i hate it h--#(still follow what i believe is a Veilguard-only Lucanis fan and im crying blood)#(not their fault but my god this fucking game.)#(how do i explain Book!Lucanis and Book!Illario are super interesting but their game counterpart are kinda mid to bad)#ichasalty#ichatalks about da#ichablogging davg

Yuji itadori: What makes a good protagonist?
Today is yuji itadori's birthday (aka my personal favorite and, in my opinion, one of the best new gen anime mcs) and i just wanted to come on here real quick to talk about his character.
Yuji, in my opinion, is the perfect example of how experiences can change your personality. At the start of jjk we see yuji as this cheerful, kind of naive teenager who has a positive look on life, right? By the end of s2, some of these traits are still there, but not all. The events that happened in shibuya obviously took their toll on yuji, and you can see that he's lost his "happy" demeanor and has matured a lot while learning about the jujutsu world and its brutalities. He also stops trying to humanize sukuna and recognizes what kind of cruel monster is inside him. He is very obviously not the same person he was at the start of jjk and i really love how gege wrote that.
Next i want to talk about his role in the story. Obviously, since he's the protagonist, there's bound to be a lot of plot points involving him, but jjk goes a different way. While there is a lot of scenes, fights, or anything else involving yuji (obviously), the entire focus doesn't remain on him. Every character gets their own spotlight at some point as we learn more about them, and i personally believe this is very important when writing media. Because you cannot have the entire story focusing on one character or it'll all fall flat.
Lastly, because it's late, i want to bring up yuji himself. Yuji is a character who's in a pretty dark situation right now: At this point, the entire world is against him. And it's a little funny to think that, the one responsible for all this in the first place is none other than yuji. Everything that happened with sukuna and him becoming his vessel happened because of swallowing sukuna's finger, which he swallowed to PROTECT HIS FRIENDS, knowing damn well there'd be some sort of big consequence coming with it. He had no knowledge of the jujutsu world at all and he still decided to swallow the finger.
His character from the shibuya arc and forward makes me so sad for some reason, because at the end of the day, he is just a former happy kid whose life turned upside down and lost almost everything in THREE MONTHS, yet he still refuses to stop fighting. He has lost so many loved ones in front of him. He has died TWICE. Yet he doesn't give up yet. He knows he has to save people, and that is what he is going to do.
I just think that yuji itadori is amazing.

anyway to end the series on ganondorf tp's writing, my take (which isn't canon but arguable as a valid "death of the author" read imo) is that he is at his most iredeemable AND that's because he has zero things left to lose and no community left and his goal doesn't even make sense anymore he is parasitic and a ghost and pathologically obsessed by his own godlike legitimacy because that is the only thing he still has and it has prolonged his life in a horrible diminished state in a nightmare dimension so SURELY it must mean something right right RIGHT
#thoughts#twilight princess#tp#tp ganondorf#ganondorf#sorry I am quite frustrated by the Discourse#there is a middle ground between evil bad evil bad and uwu baby!!!!!!! and it's the most interesting reading!!!! aaaaaa#even him not mentioning the gerudos being immediately taken as him not caring about them is veeeery frustrating to me#like#imo the three arguable arguments about what happened to the gerudos are#1) they left hyrule because fuck that shit (real and valid) and he would have felt betrayed#2) they collaborated with hyrule to subdue him (??? that seems weird to me but sure why not) and he would have felt BETRAYED#3) they were genocided because they stood by him#and of course we could assume he doesn't care (even if he drapes his execution sword in gerudo patternings which)#(not gonna lie is probably artists not really paying attention to motives but it's still interesting and noticeable)#but wouldn't that be like. deeply traumatic either way.#would you talk about your people to the enemies you hate. would you remind them of what they took from you#in ww they are children and he is old and had time to reflect#in tp he suffered nonstop and then rejected all connection and all community and is feverishly obsessed by what almost was#and they are not children there is no generational thing happening they are all royalties (and link!!! hi link!!) the beef is genuine#and EVEN IF he doesn't care that would at least be a massive wound to his ego#he had an ego collapse followed by a massive ego surge that's literally his canon character arc#so of course he would be weird about the gerudos!! how could he not be weird about the gerudos!!#again we are always assuming lack of interiority by default for ganondorf and that annoys meeeeeee#especially when there could be unbelievably interesting and tragic interpretations from what we get

*scratching at the walls thinking about how no one has adapted Peter’s college arcs in a consistent and satisfying way.*
#coffee bean gang#spider-man#I was almost asleep but now I’m thinking about how there isn’t one piece of media out there that checks all the boxes#of adapting Peter in college + the coffee bean gang + doesn’t downsize the group or combine characters#+ does everyone in a decent way even if it’s not strictly comic accurate#raimi trilogy is one of the only ones that heads pretty quickly into the college era and also involves more than just gwen or mj#and as much as I like the films it does not handle the three of them in a way that scratches the itch for me#I mean for one it’s only Peter Harry and MJ. I like those three arguably the most but man the dynamic isn’t the same#especially bc Tobey’s Peter is much more serious and quiet/awkward with negative charisma (affectionately but still.)#MJ is mixed w Gwen’s personality which was disappointing to me bc I like MJ’s weird and super vibrant personality#and Harry loses some of the ‘kind of a sweet guy but very VERY fucked up’ and relies too heavily on Harry becoming the goblin for revenge#I sound super critical of the Raimi versions qhwjrjwkr I DO like them I do but it feels like completely alternate interps of the characters#most focus on spider-man’s origin which I totally get but also. Peter’s most interesting arcs happen in college#that’s why everyone has to adapt them into the high school years#(which they can do bc Peter was largely friendless during that time and was still fighting some truly d-tier guys#in between the forming of the famous spidey rogue gallery)#I mean I wouldn’t even complain if they chose to do the high school years and actually DID those instead of pasting the college arcs on it#I haven’t watch the 90s show but I want to— does Harry exist in that one bc I know they took out Gwen#at the risk of sounding like That kind of tssm fan. the closest we got to that dream was that show#bc they WERE gonna follow it into Peter’s college years and you could see them setting the gang up#it still fell into the ‘everyone is a childhood friend’ thing so the characters could all be there but it’s one of the most bearable ones
