the morning after they get together, buck wakes up just as the sun is beginning to pour bright yellow beams through the window. he's never really been much of a morning person; staying up at night to scour wikipedia leads to unpleasantly groggy mornings. but he likes this morning. eddie's still out cold in the bed beside him, snoring softly into the pillows. buck has always enjoyed the way eddie looks while he sleeps, kinda soft and warm. for a long time, it was one of the few times his friend truly looked peaceful and relaxed. now, buck's happy that he sees his friend looking peaceful and relaxed more and more these days. the point is, buck likes this morning because it's the first morning where he is allowed to stare. last night changed them, and now buck doesn't need to unweave their legs to avoid awkwardness, he doesn't have to scoot back to put a few necessary inches between them, and he doesn't have to look away. he can stare as long as he wants. he can watch the rising sun light up eddie's skin, bit by bit. he can watch eddies eyelashes flutter when the beams of sunlight light up his eyelids. he can watch the subtle change in eddie breathing, one that makes buck begin to smile like an idiot when he realizes eddie is awake. there's a small part of him that worries that last night doesn't translate to the morning, that things might only shift between them in the hushed, dimmed hours of the night. or that too many things would change, or not enough would. but eddie peeks an eye open, winces when the sun shines in his eye, and rolls over, tucking his face into buck's neck with a groan. with a soft laugh, buck wraps his arms around eddie, and murmurs, "good morning." eddie grumbles, "five more minutes." running his fingers through eddie's hair, smiling wider when eddie leans into the touch, he says quietly, "we gotta get up, we said we'd meet bobby for breakfast." eddie doesn't answer, so he slides his hand to eddie's shoulder, ready to gently push eddie out of the crook of his neck. he barely moves eddie before the man starts whining. buck fondly rolls his eyes, sleepy eddie is still dramatic as ever. "oh my god," buck laughs, "get up man." eddie shifts, and he's got buck pinned to the mattress before buck is even aware it's happening. as soon as buck gets a full look at eddie, his heart rate kicks up. messy hair, red cheeks, slightly puffy eyes, looking all soft and sweet as he tries his best to glare at buck, but it ends up coming across as a pout. "five more minutes," eddie says again. buck kinda wants to try to get out of eddie's hold, to start a playful wrestling match between them, but he doesn't. this marks the first day of the rest of his life, and he wants to savor every perfect moment. so he stays pinned under eddie until the man above him smiles sleepily and tucks himself back under buck's chin. curling his arms around eddie and relishing the scrape of eddie's stubble against his neck, buck syncs their breathing and lets his own eyes grow heavy. bobby can wait. the world can wait awhile longer.
