do you think the reason agatha’s trial felt weird is because she was the only one who did not actually buy into the mythos of the road since she knew the truth? like that was why no perspective change and all the other reasons why people thought it was a fake trial

i find it odd that someone luke's age should be so condescending...

...while so many folks older than luke treat him as mature.

in a limbo of childhood and adulthood... poor luke... and this theme is played with a lot in this game!

you have the candymaker who only sells candy to children - but it is the adult emmy who wants the candy, and the child luke who doesn't (interestingly, because he thinks he's too old for it).

and then you have the group of children who stay in the market all day trying to make money, as their parents have been laid off from the factory: some of them run market stalls, some of them find junk to sell, and all of them come together to form the black raven, a gang of kids pretending to be a single adult, and in that guise they hold expensive underground auctions at the black market.

these children are taking up adult roles, both literally and symbolically, because the adults in their lives aren't able to fully fulfill the parental function of caring for them - in this case, mostly in the material realm (money, food, clothes, shelter), but also in the emotional realm (attention, patience, concern, comfort).

luke is contrasted from them, in that his family is wealthy - but, through this child/adult limbo, he is paralleled to them all the same. this suggests that, like them, the adults in his life aren't able to fully fulfill the parental function of caring for him - but instead in regard to the emotional realm entirely. after all, his mother has been absent for a short while, and his father has been rather insensitive and quick to anger...

I don't think I've ever taken in before how much Wicked Act I (and thus Wicked Part I) takes its structure from The Wizard of Oz. It opens with No One Mourns the Wicked, which is an obvious response to Ding Dong the Witch is Dead* (the first song once Dorothy gets to Oz, and only the second overall), and ends with our heroes arriving in the Emerald City (Merry Old Land of Oz/One Short Day). Our hero is then asked to perform a task so that the wizard will grant her heart's desire. Having completed this task, she then discovers that he is a fraud and that he cannot do what he's promised (nor could he have done the task he set her), so she has to make use of the power that was inside her all along to get where she needs to go.

*Bonus connection between these two songs is the little musical motif ("ding dong the witch is") that the movie version of No One Mourns the Wicked uses in its newly triumphant orchestration at the start (roughly 1:01 and 1:19 in the official soundtrack).

I know that it isn't actually in the game, for many good reasons, like because 1) it's a personal moment between Sebille and the player, 2) it would take a lot for Sebille to trust even more people so deeply with something so very dangerous to herself, but I just like to imagine how amazing it would be, if not only the player started singing for Sebille, while the Shadow Prince attempts to take control of her, but if the other companions also joined in, in order to drown him out completely. Maybe Lohse wouldn't even know what we're singing, but she'd join in anyway, the best she could, because she'd figure it was important, and she's a singer after all. Maybe the others would each have their way of participating. Beast singing whatever he knows at the top of his lungs. Fane just going with the flow, because guess that's what the mortals are doing now, imitating others - could be a secret to winning this fight. Ifan humming a tune, maybe not the most audible but there. While the Red Prince couldn't bear to be outperformed by anyone or anything, surely, not even at singing. Even if it might end up in horrid cacophony. I don't know. Just the idea of Sebille suddenly realising that she's surrounded by people who care about her and have her back makes me emotional.
