Antioxidant Boosting Blueberry Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream
If you love ice cream, you are in for a treat! I played around with my recipe for my Super Creamy Blueberry Cheesecake Ice Cream to create one that had even more antioxidant-boosting benefits! If you feel like the taste of matcha is too subtle, feel free to add in more to suit your taste buds! And, as always, I highly encourage adding a textural element like nuts, chocolate chips, or even…

relate. i’ve given up on making béchamel because i can never tell when “the flour smell is gone” and thus no matter what my mac n cheese ends up tasting like raw flour :(
but as a person who loves to cook and has been for most of my life, do hmu if you need any anosmic cooking advice :)
I hate how many things which are meant to be easy cooking recipes and tutorials rely on being able to “add spices by smell it should be obvious what goes together” or “smell when it’s done”.
Because like… is a beginner looking for something easy really going to have the right kinds of knowledge to do those things?
I’d expand further on that myself, but I can’t, because I run into another issue altogether:
I’m anosmic
I can’t smell
So no.
I can’t just smell the spices and tell which go together. Even if that were something the average person with no cooking experience could intuit by smell by remembering the smells of things they’ve eaten, I can’t do that.
I can’t just smell when it’s done or when the beginning of burning is happening to be able to use that to stop the cooking. Even if that were something the average person with no cooking experience could smell and interpret as a sign to take food off of the heat, I can’t do that.
It’s frustrating as fuck. I want to be able to cook. Every resource I’ve ever seen for people who were not taught to cook who are now learning in adulthood focus so much on using your sense of smell. Guess I’m fucked.
(And I’m very aware that this is probably the least frustrating and debilitating sense to not have/have a disability around in this regard. And it’s still fucked. I can’t even imagine if there were other barriers as well.)

I just read your “Humans can smell when it’s about to rain” asks and they were sooooo cute. Sadly for me, I can’t smell the rain. In fact I can’t smell anything since the day I was born. It’s called Congenital Anosmia. Being born without your sense of smell. So I was wondering, if it’s not to much to ask, How would the demon brothers react to their human not being able to smell anything?
(If you want a couple big points on it, my sense of taste is extremely dull since about 80% to 90% of your taste is your smell. So I can’t differentiate flavors. All salty things taste salty. All sweet things taste sweet. That sorta thing. And your sense of smell, the olfactory cortex part of your brain is close the part the deals with memory. So my memory is extremely shoddy at best. Just a few things to help you build off of. But of course if you feel like you can’t do this request that is totally fine too~.)
I'm so sorry this took so dang long, I kept getting interrupted every time I sat down to write it so I hope it's okay! Thank you so much for sending in the ask, I hope I did okay!
I feel like the brothers have very little experience with humans as is, so they're quick to learn your particularities and adapt to your needs.
You've never had to repeat yourself to any of them, anything you say you aren't comfortable with is never mentioned again, and you know for a fact they have a group chat where they inform each other of these things so you never have repeat yourself.
However, I do feel like certain brothers would make special adjustments for your Congenital Anosmia.
Mammon is the first to find ways to help you adapt to the Devildom. He of all demons knows how overwhelming the schedule can be at first. He doesn't tell you, but he's downloaded an app to help keep track of whatever classes and projects you need to attend and he'll gently remind you if he thinks you've forgotten.
Satan jumped on the same train as soon as you asked him to help you study, tying different subjects to music instead as he knows you'll associate a song with a subject pretty easily. He's done so much research on your condition that he's basically become an authority on the subject and always puts you first. You'll be reminded of Devildom History every time you hear Mozart for the rest of your days.
Beel's pretty sad to learn that you can't experience the widest myriad of flavours, but he still loves sharing food with you, and the way his eyes light up when you're together bring you a new reason to love your food. Your favourite meals become the ones Beel adores, the ones he brings you randomly just to eat with you and Belphie.
Lucifer pushed his schedule around in order to help you learn to cook Devildom food, since you couldn't really taste these varied new flavours, he took the time to teach you some trusted recipes for you to start out with. You can go to Barbatos for any complex education in the culinary arts, if you wish it.

BIRD TIME 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Anyways, here’s that genderfluid bird with Anosmia that my friend keeps fangirling over (rightfully so imo)
Ylra’s basically one of the groups main backbones, and not just because she’s insistent on carrying everyone’s luggage around for them despite their constant protests. Like everyone else in the group (except Kelpie to some extent), Ylra is one of the kindest people on earth… or Parajeat I guess. However, this kindness is also the source of a lot of their struggles. While yes, they’re always looking out for others, looking for any task they can help someone with, and are happy to carry the burden of others, these habits all come from a deep-seeded mindset of, “If I cannot be of service to the people around me, I am worthless.” Once again, tooooooootaly not projecting/s. Couple this with the fact that his memory is shit, leading to him often not recognizing why he acts the way he does to things that remind them of the past, and you’ve got yourself the perfect recipe for a horribly traumatized backpack guy hiding it all behind a ray-of-sunshine personality.
While we’re at it, two other fun facts:
One: Ylra can’t smell.
Two: Ylra isn’t actually their real name.

Some Covid Survivors Haunted by Loss of Smell and Taste
As the coronavirus claims more victims, a once-rare diagnosis is receiving new attention from scientists, who fear it may affect nutrition and mental health.
Until March, when everything started tasting like cardboard, Katherine Hansen had such a keen sense of smell that she could recreate almost any restaurant dish at home without the recipe, just by recalling the scents and flavors.
Then the coronavirus arrived. One of Ms. Hansen’s first symptoms was a loss of smell, and then of taste. Ms. Hansen still cannot taste food, and says she can’t even tolerate chewing it. Now she lives mostly on soups and shakes.
“I’m like someone who loses their eyesight as an adult,” said Ms. Hansen, a realtor who lives outside Seattle. “They know what something should look like. I know what it should taste like, but I can’t get there.”
A diminished sense of smell, called anosmia, has emerged as one of the telltale symptoms of Covid-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. It is the first symptom for some patients, and sometimes the only one. Often accompanied by an inability to taste, anosmia occurs abruptly and dramatically in these patients, almost as if a switch had been flipped.
Most regain their senses of smell and taste after they recover, usually within weeks. But in a minority of patients like Ms. Hansen, the loss persists, and doctors cannot say when or if the senses will return.
Scientists know little about how the virus causes persistent anosmia or how to cure it. But cases are piling up as the coronavirus sweeps across the world, and some experts fear that the pandemic may leave huge numbers of people with a permanent loss of smell and taste. The prospect has set off an urgent scramble among researchers to learn more about why patients are losing these essential senses, and how to help them.
“Many people have been doing olfactory research for decades and getting little attention,” said Dr. Dolores Malaspina, professor of psychiatry, neuroscience, genetics and genomics at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. “Covid is just turning that field upside down.”
Smell is intimately tied to both taste and appetite, and anosmia often robs people of the pleasure of eating. But the sudden absence also may have a profound impact on mood and quality of life.
Studies have linked anosmia to social isolation and anhedonia, an inability to feel pleasure, as well as a strange sense of detachment and isolation. Memories and emotions are intricately tied to smell, and the olfactory system plays an important though largely unrecognized role in emotional well-being, said Dr. Sandeep Robert Datta, an associate professor of neurobiology at Harvard Medical School.
“You think of it as an aesthetic bonus sense,” Dr. Datta said. “But when someone is denied their sense of smell, it changes the way they perceive the environment and their place in the environment. People’s sense of well-being declines. It can be really jarring and disconcerting.”
Many sufferers describe the loss as extremely upsetting, even debilitating, all the more so because it is invisible to others.
“Smell is not something we pay a lot of attention to until it’s gone,” said Pamela Dalton, who studies smell’s link to cognition and emotion at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. “Then people notice it, and it is pretty distressing. Nothing is quite the same.”
British scientists studied the experiences of 9,000 Covid-19 patients who joined a Facebook support group set up by the charity group AbScent between March 24 and September 30. Many members said they had not only lost pleasure in eating, but also in socializing. The loss had weakened their bonds with other people, affecting intimate relationships and leaving them feeling isolated, even detached from reality.
“I feel alien from myself,” one participant wrote. “It’s also kind of a loneliness in the world. Like a part of me is missing, as I can no longer smell and experience the emotions of everyday basic living.”
Another said, “I feel discombobulated — like I don’t exist. I can’t smell my house and feel at home. I can’t smell fresh air or grass when I go out. I can’t smell the rain.”
Loss of smell is a risk factor for anxiety and depression, so the implications of widespread anosmia deeply trouble mental health experts. Dr. Malaspina and other researchers have found that olfactory dysfunction often precedes social deficits in schizophrenia, and social withdrawal even in healthy individuals.
“From a public health perspective, this is really important,” Dr. Datta said. “If you think worldwide about the number of people with Covid, even if only 10 percent have a more prolonged smell loss, we’re talking about potentially millions of people.”
The most immediate effects may be nutritional. People with anosmia may continue to perceive basic tastes — salty, sour, sweet, bitter and umami. But taste buds are relatively crude preceptors. Smell adds complexity to the perception of flavor via hundreds of odor receptors signaling the brain.
Many people who can’t smell will lose their appetites, putting them at risk of nutritional deficits and unintended weight loss. Kara VanGuilder, who lives in Brookline, Mass., said she has lost 20 pounds since March, when her sense of smell vanished.
“I call it the Covid diet,” said Ms. VanGuilder, 26, who works in medical administration. “There no point in indulging in brownies if I can’t really taste the brownie.”
But while she jokes about it, she added, the loss has been distressing: “For a few months, every day almost, I would cry at the end of the day.”
Smells also serve as a primal alarm system alerting humans to dangers in our environment, like fires or gas leaks. A diminished sense of smell in old age is one reason older individuals are more prone to accidents, like fires caused by leaving burning food on the stove.
Michele Miller, of Bayside, N.Y., was infected with the coronavirus in March and hasn’t smelled anything since then. Recently, her husband and daughter rushed her out of their house, saying the kitchen was filling with gas.
She had no idea. “It’s one thing not to smell and taste, but this is survival,” Ms. Miller said.
Humans constantly scan their environments for smells that signal changes and potential harms, though the process is not always conscious, said Dr. Dalton, of the Monell Chemical Senses Center.
Smell alerts the brain to the mundane, like dirty clothes, and the risky, like spoiled food. Without this form of detection, “people get anxious about things,” Dr. Dalton said.
Even worse, some Covid-19 survivors are tormented by phantom odors that are unpleasant and often noxious, like the smells of burning plastic, ammonia or feces, a distortion called parosmia.
Eric Reynolds, a 51-year-old probation officer in Santa Maria, Calif., lost his sense of smell when he contracted Covid-19 in April. Now, he said, he often perceives foul odors that he knows don’t exist. Diet drinks taste like dirt; soap and laundry detergent smell like stagnant water or ammonia.
“I can’t do dishes, it makes me gag,” Mr. Reynolds said. He’s also haunted by phantom smells of corn chips and a scent he calls “old lady perfume smell.”
It’s not unusual for patients like him to develop food aversions related to their distorted perceptions, said Dr. Evan R. Reiter, medical director of the smell and taste center at Virginia Commonwealth University, who has been tracking the recovery of some 2,000 Covid-19 patients who lost their sense of smell.
One of his patients is recovering, but “now that it’s coming back, she’s saying that everything or virtually everything that she eats will give her a gasoline taste or smell,” Dr. Reiter said.
The derangement of smell may be part of the recovery process, as receptors in the nose struggle to reawaken, sending signals to the brain that misfire or are misread, Dr. Reiter said.
After loss of smell, “different populations or subtypes of receptors may be impacted to different degrees, so the signals your brain is used to getting when you eat steak will be distorted and may trick your brain into thinking you’re eating dog poop or something else that’s not palatable.”
Patients desperate for answers and treatment have tried therapies like smell training: sniffing essential oils or sachets with a variety of odors — such as lavender, eucalyptus, cinnamon and chocolate — several times a day in an effort to coax back the sense of smell. A recent study of 153 patients in Germany found the training could be moderately helpful in those who had lower olfactory functioning and in those with parosmia.
Dr. Alfred Iloreta, an otolaryngologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, has begun a clinical trial to see whether taking fish oil helps restore the sense of smell. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil may protect nerve cells from further damage or help regenerate nerve growth, he suggested.
“If you have no smell or taste, you have a hard time eating anything, and that’s a massive quality of life issue,” Dr. Iloreta said. “My patients, and the people I know who have lost their smell, are completely wrecked by it.”
Mr. Reynolds feels the loss most acutely when he goes to the beach near his home to walk. He no longer smells the ocean or salt air.
“My mind knows what it smells like,” he said. “And when I get there, it’s not there.”

I was wondering... 1, 16, and 29? :D
I can't do all the emojis on my shitty old phone hahaha
1🥒. What are some of your relaxation strategies?
it changes a little based on where my head’s at when i’m trying to relax. if my concentration is still good then reading, watching a movie/show or writing normally help! if my mind’s drifting too much for that then video games are good (the fact that the narrative literally can’t progress without action on my part sometimes helps keep me from losing focus XD) i also like word searches, colouring and algebra as relaxation techniques!
talking things out, or just talking with a friend in general, can help a lot but, unfortunately, i find it a lot harder to make words happen right when i’m stressed so i’m not always good at that one 🙈 🙈 thanks brain 😒
i also normally make some tea because when do i not? 😂 🙈 ( i firmly believe that one of the internet’s great failings is that you can’t make tea for your friends when one of you is having a bad time 😔 someone really needs to get on that)
16🎖. What is something you're proud of yourself for being able to do?
hmmm, i’m a little short on pride rn but i’m gonna give this a shot and say cooking? i’m actually a pretty good cook! you can give me a random assortment of ingredients and i’ll normally be able to turn them into a decent meal, plus i can figure out new recipes pretty fast. anosmia is definitely a disadvantage here so i guess i’m proud of myself for being able to work past that?
also, this isn’t so much something i do exactly, but i’m pretty good with animals and that makes me happy 🥰
29🎍. How are you with keeping plants alive?
somewhat middling 😂 i’m not exactly an expert gardener but i don’t quite have a reputation as a slayer of houseplants either also a lot of stuff just straight up dies during summer here but that’s NOT MY FAULT  😂😭
thanks for asking! 💛💛

It's possible that Transylvanian food might overcome the issue with anosmia and Western cooking. Some classic recipes start with, "Go outside and pick several handfuls of these herbs. Also, garlic." (But probably a thing to try after pregnancy and the fourth trimester.)
Oh, I’d 100% go forage my own wayside herbs. I’ve ample experience doing that with fruits and walnuts, adding herbs to that list sounds grand tbh

COVID-19 | COVID-19 Grocery Shopping Guide
Grocery Shopping Tips in the Age of COVID-19 :
Grocery shopping during the coronavirus pandemic can be overwhelming. How much food should you be buying per trip? How can you get what you need without hoarding supplies?
The Real Mom’s Guide
Take stock of what you already have.
Before heading to the store, check the pantry, cupboards, fridge and freezer. “This is a good time to take inventory and to make sure we’re reducing food waste,” said Kirsten Straughan, a registered dietitian and director of the University of Illinois at Chicago’s nutrition science, kinesiology and nutrition program. “See what you have and then plan meals around that. This is a nice time to use those pantry staples.”
Create a shopping list based on your meals, and stick to your list.
Not only does this reduce food waste, but it ensures you’re only buying what you need, says Straughan. “Having a shopping list makes you more efficient and minimizes your time spent (at the store),” she said. A list may also help you resist the temptation to buy things just because other people are. “If you see other people engaging in hoarding behavior, you may be thinking, ‘Should I be doing this too?’ even though it’s not a good idea,” she said. “Having a shopping list helps you avoid those pitfalls.”
What Is The Paleo Diet?
Buy only what you need.
You don’t need a month’s worth of groceries. Buy one to two weeks’ worth of stuff at a time, says Straughan. “We want to think of what everyone else will need too – just as with social distancing, we need to have a public health view of grocery shopping habits as well.”
Slowly add to your supply of nonperishable goods.
COVID-19 | COVID-19 Grocery Shopping Guide
Build up your stock of frozen foods, canned items and whole grains. “Don’t buy too much of one thing,” says Straughan. “Instead of getting one can of beans, get two or three cans. Or instead of one pasta, get two – you don’t need six pastas.”
If supplies of a particular item are low, only buy what you need for that week, she said. One way to add to your stockpile responsibly is to buy items that are well stocked at the store.

Limit the number of people going to the store.
Not everyone in your home needs to go to the grocery store. Some stores have limits as to how many people are allowed to shop at once, so bringing the whole family could increase wait times for all shoppers, according to Straughan.
Get your groceries delivered, if possible.
Skip the store and order your groceries online. “Not only does this help with recommendations for social distancing, but it also helps you plan better, and prevent some panic or impulse buying,” Straughan said.
Melt 7 Pounds Every 7 Days
Grocery Shopping Tips in the Age of COVID-19.
Creating a weekly meal plan and using it to devise a grocery list can limit your time in the grocery store and keep your basket filled with nutritious foods. During the stay-at-home order, designate one person from your family to go to the store once a week. This limits your family’s exposure as well as the number of people in the grocery store!

Mix and Match Plan.
Many things can be made with basic staples like these. For example, you could have oatmeal with peanut butter and thawed frozen blueberries for breakfast and whole wheat noodles mixed with pesto and topped with steamed frozen broccoli for lunch.
Once you have your foundation ready, set a day to create your meal plan and build your grocery list. There are many ways to meal plan. I like to pick a handful of recipes from one cookbook or website that uses similar ingredients so I can mix and match with less waste. For example, I’ll pick two recipes that use chicken, two that use sweet potatoes, and two that use broccoli. Try to pick recipes that use lots of plant-based foods to increase the amount of antioxidants you are consuming.

Contents
Symptoms
What do we mean by possible or confirmed coronavirus infection (COVID-19)?
Main messages
Who is this guidance for?
Will my household be tested if we think we have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms?
Why staying at home is very important
While you are self-isolating, make sure you do the following things
Ending self-isolation and household isolation
After ending self-isolation and/or household isolation
Symptoms
The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are the recent onset of any of the following:
a new continuous cough
a high temperature
a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness. However, if you have any of the symptoms above you must stay at home and arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.
What do we mean by possible or confirmed coronavirus infection (COVID-19)?
A possible infection is where a person has coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms and is currently awaiting a test result.
Confirmed infection is where a person has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
Main messages
Best Diets Weight loss Diet plans
If you have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, OR you have received a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result, the clear medical advice is to immediately self-isolate at home for at least 7 days from when your symptoms started. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. You should arrange to have a test to see if you have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.
Consider alerting the people that you have had close contact within the last 48 hours to let them know you have symptoms of coronavirus COVID-19.
Following a positive test result, you will receive a request by text, email or phone to log into the NHS Test and Trace service website and provide information about recent close contacts
After 7 days, or longer, if you still have symptoms other than cough or loss of sense of smell/taste, you must continue to self-isolate until you feel better.
You do not need to self-isolate if you only have a cough or loss of sense of smell/taste after 7 days, as these symptoms can last for several weeks after the infection has gone. See the ending isolation section below for more information.
If you live with others and you are the first in the household to have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), then you must stay at home for at least 7 days. All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the household became ill. See the explanatory diagram.
Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection that people in your household could pass on to others in the community.
If anyone else in the household starts displaying symptoms, they must stay at home for at least 7 days from when their symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in their original 14-day isolation period. The ending isolation section below has more information, and see the explanatory diagram.
If you have symptoms, you should stay as far away from other members of your household as possible. It is especially important to stay away from anyone who is clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable with whom you continue to share a household.
The simple lifestyle shifts in the Eat Sleep Burn ugly belly fat…
Reduce the spread of infection in your home by washing your hands regularly for 20 seconds using soap and water, or use hand sanitizer, and cover coughs and sneezes.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it was moving to update its guidelines on treating people stricken with COVID-19 to reflect results of a clinical trial that showed a cheap, common steroid can help save critically ill patients.
Trial results announced showed dexamethasone, used since the 1960s to reduce inflammation in diseases such as arthritis, cut death rates by around a third among the most severely ill COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital.
The WHO’s clinical guidance for treating patients infected with the new coronavirus is aimed at doctors and other medical professionals and seeks to use the latest data to inform clinicians on how best to tackle all phases of the disease, from screening to discharge.
Although the dexamethasone study’s results are preliminary, the researchers behind the project said it suggests the drug should immediately become standard care in severely stricken patients.
For patients on ventilators, the treatment was shown to reduce mortality by about one third, and for patients requiring only oxygen, mortality was cut by about one fifth, according to preliminary findings shared with WHO.
The benefit was only seen in patients seriously ill with COVID-19 and was not observed in patients with milder disease.
The positive news comes as coronavirus infections accelerated in some places including the United States and Beijing canceled scores of flights to help contain a fresh outbreak in China’s capital.
“This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement late on Tuesday. The agency said it was looking forward to the full data analysis of the study in the coming days.
“WHO will coordinate a meta-analysis to increase our overall understanding of this intervention. WHO clinical guidance will be updated to reflect how and when the drug should be used in COVID-19,” the agency added.
