No, I shan't! I am a flawed mortal who answers to no god or authority! So I'll complain all I want, about anything I want, whenever I want.

Stop misappropriating the abuse and trauma cults use through purity culture for your stupid fucking shipping discourse? Holy fuck no wonder everyone hates this whole discourse.
Since when is "priests getting shuffled around after raping kids and kids being told they're sinful because they had bodily reactions to being SAd" comparable to "Bobo the clown said my ship was cringe"
I'm not gonna answer this with The Aristocrats, as a I threatened, because I want to make a very serious point to this anon:
Purity culture isn't just religious abuse. It is most widely connected to religious abuse. Including actions in the Catholic Church and all fundamentalist Christianity. It's entire existence is about terrifying and indoctrinating people into being fearful of their own actions and bodies so that they feel certain that moving out from the "umbrella of safety" (to use a fundamentalist term) will result in them being harmed in ways they can't imagine. This is generally happening at the same time as they are being harmed by those who are supposed to be keeping them safe from all those terrible, worldly evils. Like speaking up when you're being abused. Believing you are not responsible for the actions of a rapist, and many, many other things that any person with an ounce of self-worth and good sense (two things not allowed in fundamentalist circles) knows are true in abuse situations.
But the point of the purity culture as identity in the above-mentioned circles is to teach people from birth that they aren't to have their own feelings, ideas, or instincts. They are only to follow the feelings, ideas, and instincts on the approved list in order to stay within the structures they know and feel safe in even as they feel very unsafe.
That being said:
Purity culture can also exist WITHOUT a religious structure while still being about controlling the thoughts, feelings, and actions of everyone within it. In terms of fandom, purity culture is groups of people stating that if you write something uncomfortable or gross or immoral, then YOU must be uncomfortable or gross or immoral and therefore, not worthy of the safety and moral superiority of the group.
Purity culture without religion teaches black and white thinking, encourages thought policing, and shames anyone who steps outside of a very narrow definition of good and bad by turning an entire group of people against them for being "bad".
Just like in religious circles.
Just like in the cult of fundamentalism.
Purity culture is a term taken by fundamentalists and turned into a whole way of life because the goal of fundamentalism is to make people too scared to leave. Purity culture in fandom does the same thing. It uses fear and threats of abandonment/harassment to control the way people act because a group of people decided they didn't like something, so they must try and wipe it out rather than simply ignore it.
I am not mis-using the term because "Bobo the clown said my ship was cringe." My use of the term is intentional and precise because what is happening in fandom spaces now is non-religious purity culture cult thinking. My use of the term does not invalidate or water down the use of it in conversations about religious abuse and trauma. With or without religion, purity culture is a dangerous cult of "us vs them" that is built to demoralize and eradicate those deemed unworthy.

I have no clue what Oliver thinks about anything, but I find it so disrespectful of him to call this episode great ahead of it airing. Plenty of us were represented in the bucktommy relationship, one way or another, and to just get slapped with an out of left field breakup and being told: Enjoy!.
Get a grip Oliver and learn not to spread biphobic prejudices while you're at it!
Tumblr media
welp he’s posted this so. fun he can speak out now but not after everything that’s happened with all the hate bucktommy and lou got for months.
anyways!

You're a proshipper and you advertise it in your bio? Do you ship incest and pedo shit?
it's actually a very common misconception, because the misconception has been intentionally perpetuated by antis, that proship means "problematic" or that a person who says they are proship personally ships anything that antis specifically don't like, which can include things like age gaps, incest, etc. they might or they might not. that is not even part of the definition.
today's vocabulary lesson:
proship: literally pro (supporting, in favor of) shipping (imagining fictional relationships between characters for funsies).
anti or antiship: has a lot of rage and few brain cells, attacks people from behind the safety of online anonymity, wants to control other people's thoughts and feelings in order to soothe the constant inexplicable feelings of rage and panic that torment them day and night, loves puritanism, fascism, ultra-right conservatism, censorship, hate, bullying, causing harm to other humans, and hurting real people, all under the banner of a completely fake self-righteous cause, to excuse themselves from culpability for their horrible, cruel, mean-spirited, hateful, harmful, ultra-conservative fundamentalist fascist behavior.
so, what we have learned today is that all proship actually means is live and let live, don't harass, don't attack, don't cause harm to real people over fictional imaginary playtime stuff.
but to answer your question hell yeah i do fictional incest is hot af
have a blessed day!! 💖

this should go without saying, but:
do not ever, for any reason, re-upload a fic that has been taken down and especially do not say in the author’s note that you plan to ORPHAN another person’s work.
if an author removes a work it is because they do not want it to be accessible online and they do not have to give you a reason for doing so.
please, for the love of gd - i am begging y’all to learn some basic decency and to treat these author’s with respect.

concerning fitzmartin's line of tim saying bernard showed him there is more to him than he was settling for and brings out the real me, is that an attack on his past romance and saying he was settling for them or more talking about being queer and discovering that
I mean, I certainly read it as a sort of attack (though I think "attack" might be a bit too strong a word) because Fitzmartin hasn't shown respect for the, out-of-universe, near 30 year long relationship Tim had with a woman or, in fact, the woman in question. Tim breaks up with Stephanie off-panel, we never get her feelings on the matter anywhere and when Fitzmartin does write her, it's as a prop for Timber. I mean just look at this:
Tumblr media
Tim Drake Pride Special
and tell me the author cares for or respects Stephanie Brown as a character.
I also resent the implication that Tim couldn't have been his best queer self with Steph because she'd absolutely fully accept him. And he's not gay, he's bisexual, he's still attracted to women.
So why is being with a woman "settling" when he was previously talking about her like this:
Tumblr media
Young Justice (2019) #5
Tumblr media
Young Justice (2019) #8
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (2016) #940
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (2016) #963
Tim loved Stephanie. He was in love with Stephanie. She was his last thought before dying and he was committed to a future with her. There wasn't even a hint of a crack in their relationship prior to Urban Legends, in fact, I'd argue they were at the happiest and healthiest they'd maybe ever been.
So yeah, to me, Tim talking about "settling" and not being able to be himself before Bernard is 1) bullshit and 2) an attempt by the author to downplay his previous relationship. I don't really care to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Ngl as a writer myself I had planned to write for elaik week too but I have been informed of their policing and bs and honestly no thank you. You can submit it for elain week but I think it would be nice to let them starve
I’m on the fence, anon.
It comes down to feeling very frustrated by individuals who do not fundamentally understand fandom running community-wide events. I have been around the block when it comes to fandom, ship wars, and fanfiction. I’ve never seen this kind of behavior before honestly. And the overwhelming response of “Well if you don’t like it then go make your own Elain Week” is such classic mean girl behavior. It’s middle school where the clique that loves to fucking gaslight you with exclusion tactics and fake ass excuses doesn’t understand why you’re mad all of a sudden.
You are the established and organized community event that has claimed to be neutral, welcome, and inclusive. It is YOUR responsibility to uphold that, not ours to leave and create our own when you are clearly not doing that.
Fandom comes from the word fanatic so when are we going to pretend this is a moral, normal place?
Our fandom roots and origins come from obsessive nerds in sci-fi AND queer works of fiction - it was a place for people who were not privileged in society to have a place and sense of community in a safe manner
AO3 was created to have a safe place for fan works (ANYTHING -- het, slash, RPF, chan, kink, highly adult) because there was a time when these works were deleted and purged from the internet on Fanfiction/LiveJournal
This isn’t about Tamlin at the end of the day. It bothers me when a Character Event week pretends to play Moral Judge and dictate what is wrong and right when it comes to shipping/fan creations. Fandom has always been and SHOULD be a place where we allow people to create freely in a place of community.
And I don’t blame people for the drama and uproar for it. Because pushing back on authority and rigidity is also a basic tenet of fandom.
All of that to say, I am still on the fence because I want to show up for Elain, but I also realize this may all be falling on deaf ears unfortunately.

Genuinely THANK YOU for defending Ford this fandom was driving me insane oh my gof THANK FUCKS THERE'S STILL PEOPLE WITH LOGIC IN HERE
You're welcome. I love Ford and find him very relatable, so I'll always defend him. And yes, this fandom is...frustrating, to put it lightly. I know fandoms in general tend to be ableist and victim blame-y and don't have media literacy and lack nuance...but the Gravity Falls fandom is worse in that regard than most fandoms.
And what's worse is that the Gravity Falls fandom has had time to mature and grow, but they haven't. If anything, they've gotten worse.

I’m a major buddie shipper, I didn’t ship bt that much (although I could accept that it was canon so I didn’t absolutely hate it if you gwim) and tbh Tommy wasn’t really a character that I was invested in. However I was genuinely so shocked when they broke up?? I was watching the episode and when Tommy went to the loft I was fully prepared for them to go on a date, especially with the way the scene began. Whilst I’m obviously not as sad as you or most bt shippers are, I was completely unprepared for them to break up, especially with the way it happens. I think the fact that I didn’t even ship them and even I’m disappointed with that scene really speaks volumes to the fact that the writing was just bad, there wasn’t much build up the breakup (except the basketball tickets, maybe Tommy not being part of the gc as a reach) and the episode before clearly showed their relationship was thriving, so I have no idea where the breakup came from at all 😭
and also Lou totally deserved better. I’m not really his biggest fan (that’s nothing against him at all, I just don’t really keep up with any actors that aren’t mains) but the fact that not a single person defended him is insane. The way people treat Buck’s LIs is mental and they all genuinely deserve sm better. I personally think that the cast need to get better at defending the people who have to go through this, or at least saying something so that people will stop.
sorry this is so long! I just wanted to say that I agree with yall that the writing for the breakup was just straight bad, and even I (a buddie shipper) am able to see that
thank you for your perspective! i get how people would not be so invested in lou or bucktommy or tommy, regardless of whether they ship buddie as well. so it’s nice to see someone else with more objectivity comment on how abrupt it seemed.
and the hate lou got for months was crazy. like genuinely so insane, people hated him so much and even lou said the worst thing that happened to him was that he got death threats but i’m ??? how is that not a worrying sentiment? that he got death threats for portraying a gay character in a mlm relationship. that people hated him so much to do things like that and much more. the online harassment to him was RELENTLESS.
he didn’t deserve any of that and neither did bucktommy. they didn’t deserve to be hated on so badly, regardless of whether people shipped buck with someone else. i’m gonna forever be bitter about it, and how the relationship ended.

For context I got permission to show everyone these from @half-oz-eddie
I'm sorry anon, are you unaware about what a Maid Cafe is? The point is people regardless of gender are either maids or butlers. I'm SO SO sorry your transphobic ass feels so uncomfortable about the concept of male characters wearing nail polish and lip stick
And that "some have lipstick that's too much" that's Lord Billy, an Resident Evil Village x Stranger Things AU yours truly (me). Lord Billy is genderfluid.
You're frankly a coward to sit there on anon and type those words to the @harringrove-cafe which was designed to bring joy to people's day. We don't tolerate this type of behaviour towards the Cafe OR in the harringrove and Billy Hargrove fandom in general.
Come off of anon and say that shit with your WHOLE chest since you have plenty of words to say about what Billy and the other male characters should and shouldn't wear. Cisgender males wear lipstick and nail polish in real life, does that give you the heebie jeebies too?
You're actually pathetic, get the fuck out of here and back to the vile river of hate that you came from. You're not welcome here.
To everyone else: please show the Cafe alot of love. We artists all had a fun time drawing these for the maid Cafe event!

Richard saying, "we're going to end up in the same place, it doesn't matter how we get there" pissed me off so much ISN'T "HOW WE GET THERE" THE ENTIRE POINT OF STORIES?! ISN'T THAT WHY THE ENTIRE DAMN BOOK EXISTS?!
So, shocker, I have Thoughts about this post of his. My knee jerk reaction when I saw it last night was an eye roll and an urge to rant, which I kept contained because I'd already ranted and we gotta space that stuff out from time-to-time.
And now that I have had a full night's sleep and I am slightly less cranky, I'm gonna have to go on record and... DEFEND part of his logic, gasp.
For those not in the know, RR wrotes this reply to question on Threads (lol) a few days ago about changes to the plot in the sixth episode that apparently bugged a lot of people:
Tumblr media
And like, I'm deeply annoyed about the "it won't change anything" bit because OH MY GOD STORYTELLING which is a whole other thing but I do have something to say about the man's logic and the difference in the show premise vs the books that I think is flying over a lot of people's heads.
The plot of the show is Percy saving Sally and doing a quest along the way. Sally and Percy's relationship is the A plot, the mythology and conflict among the gods is the B plot. Percy knows from 1x02 that his mom is alive and that changes his priorities immediately; we see him start to care about the overall quest and his place in the world in 1x05, but he's still pushing forward because of his mom. You have to add another pearl to pay off that A storyline, to promise audience members that Percy is going to succeed until he doesn't.
Percy in the books has a feeling his mom is alive or that he can get her back from the Underworld, but doesn't know for sure. The quest and the setting up the overall Big Three backstory is the main plot of the books and what we the readers are focused on. I wouldn't even put saving Sally as a B or C plot in the original TLT. Percy doesn't get confirmation that she's alive until they're down in the Underworld and Hades reveals he took her for leverage, so then only having three pearls becomes a brief but important conflict.
This is where we're seeing a lot of the issues with the show's plot come to a head. It's fine to change the priority of the story from returning the bolt to saving Sally, because it delivers the same result in the end anyway, like Rick says. But you have to bulk up other parts of the script in a way to make up for it and the show has not delivered on that part. (See exhibit A: my rant about any lack of mystery with the monsters.)
I think the most egregious change that he says doesn't matter is the trio missing the deadline. In the books, we're told that natural disasters and weird things have been happening since the bolt disappeared as Zeus and Poseidon fought, and stuff was getting worse the closer the deadline came. We are briefly shown this in 1x05 with Ares and in 1x06 with Luke saying things are "bad" at camp, but imo, it doesn't feel super heavy. The consequences of missing the deadline is that gods go to war and bad shit happens! Lots of mortals are gonna die! Doesn't that matter?
The show could've stepped outside of the Percy and Sally storyline for little bit to give more of a perspective about what was happening at camp or the outside world to bring that weight - you're not limited to just Percy's POV storyline in the medium of a TV show! (Of course, we can step outside of it to give a LMM cameo/stinger because priorities but I digress.)
They didn't and I'm not sure how they're going to "solve" Zeus's response to Percy missing the deadline 'cause like... this is the unreasonable king of the gods that Rick has started yet another series based on the premise of him being a petty bitch who wants to ruin Percy's life. Is the guy gonna walk back starting a war? Is he waiting to start because Poseidon asked nicely? What's the consequence to the world going to be? Clearly nothing, since Rick said the story is going to end how it was always going to end, which is just poor storytelling.

Do you like work or do you just sit around writing jonsa/sansa meta all day
Awww are you mad anon 🥺did you have fun stalking my account ??? I hope I’ve provided you with enough entertainment . I know you’re checking up on me daily to make sure I’m updating!! Thanks for the concern, I’m touched - truly. I’m sure that entertainment I’ve provided for you and your bullying friends is pertinent enough . And I’m sure you and your friends love to write anti metas because there’s a strange obsession you guys seem to have with invading the Jonsa and sansa tag to shit on it. (I mean seriously, who the fuck creates an anti blog dedicated to hating on a ship??) I never enter the j0nerys tag. I never enter the j0nrya tag. Because why would I willingly subject myself to that when I know I’m bound to disagree with the interpretations and the shippers? Why would I willingly piss myself off?? It’s why I filter that shit and block like crazy. But I couldn’t say the same thing for y’all. Seems like y’all are the ones who are jobless with your obsession in spewing condescending hateful asks for no reason at all. I’m just having fun here indulging in fiction. And here’s the irony , here’s the blatant hypocrisy. I’ll bet you scroll through the Jonsa tag everyday cause you don’t have a life outside of tumblr. And I’m certain that you either write or reblog your own metas in your corner of the fandom. I mean this is ASOIAF we’re talking about here. As long as the work remains unfinished we’re all going to continue with our metas and analysing. Why don’t you go ask the same thing to the reddit community :) or the 5 hour iceberg videos on YouTube.
And P.S I’m eighteen years old. I’m obviously not working a full time 9-5 job, so I have a lot of free time on my hand 💀sorry that the existence of this account with *checks notes* 90 followers in total bothers you.
No thanks for the ask <3

(to your azula post) it’s so real bc the moment u even mention someone’s wrongs (can’t think of another word rn) people will say you’re sexist or ableist bc azula was obviously mentally ill or something😭
Mmn. But it's trickier than that because there ARE incredibly sexist and ableist Azula takes (usually in the Greater Casual Fandom) where she gets called a "psycho bitch" and is not afforded any empathetic readings of her character whatsoever. And she IS obviously mentally and emotionally compromised. And abused by Ozai a la emotional manipulation and implicit physical threat. And it's frustrating to see people act like that's not there.
BUT then you will ALSO see people go "what do you MEAN this textbook example of a scapegoat dynamic is abuse 🙄😂 haha you guys are SO stupid, it's not like Azula was all but explicitly encouraged by their father to emotionally and physically abuse him. What do you MEAN Ozai and Ursa represent the most basic example of Conflicted Co-Parenting ever put to screen, and after she left it was VERY clear that Ozai, and therefore Azula, who clearly mirrors her father's behavior, now had no one dissuading them from continuing abuse... you guys are just making this up cus you hate Azula" I'LL GO INSANE I WILL... I REALLY WILL...
