I'm just a British woman (formerly in HR) seeing everyone talk about 'DEI' and 'quotas' recently and....those two things get a lot of hate for what they seem to be.

Is this not it:

Government: Hey so, we've finally acknowledged that women and other races are also (kind of) people so you should start hiring them as well as white men, OK? Mostly so they'll leave us alone and keep voting for us?

Companies: I don't really want to? I like hiring my friends and people who look like me.

Government: Right well...let's just say, whoever's the best person, you hire them, deal? That'll make everyone happy.

Companies: Oh yeah, we can work around, I mean....with, that.

Ten Years Later

Government: So we notice not a lot of you are hiring people who aren't white men...what's up with that? We said 'hire the best person' - is the best person just...always a white guy?

Companies: .....yes.

Government: That seems....statistically unlikely?

Companies: *looks at presidential history* is it?? Anyway, don't know what to tell you. We haven't found any white women or POC who are 'the best' ***by our criteria***

Government: OK, that was a weird way you said 'criteria' but...well, we can't really watch all of you all of the time so to make this go away...out of every hundred people, you now have to hire one white woman and one person of colour.

Companies: But that's not fair!! What if we find 99 great white guys and we have to send one away for a white woman or a POC? We want the BEST people to have jobs.

Government: Well ideally we'd love you to be able to pick the best person for every job but, you had ten years to do that and you didn't, so now we have to do it like this because you can't be trusted. So...now you get treated like toddlers. And given those quota numbers, it's more likely you'll be turning away a lot of white women or POC because you only want to give them quota spots.

Companies: Hey white guys, this one white woman and her brown colleague are the reason you don't have jobs.

The general public (including white women for some fucking reason): Hey! DEI sucks!!!

This is also referred to as 'synaptic pruning' where your brain basically cuts connections in order to restructure around your new task of motherhood. Basically robbing you of memory in favour of making you a better caretaker to others - which I find deeply horrifying, but which is obviously being downplayed or made out to be a good thing. But I think it's something more AFAB people should know BEFORE making the choice to have children.

The above makes it sounds like the hippocampus is used for 'trivia' but it actually is responsible for:

Learning.

Short- and long-term memory.

Visual-spatial memory (remembering the position of your body in relation to nearby objects).

Verbal memory (remembering the right words to say).

Declarative (or explicit) memory (the recollection of facts or experiences).

'relatively inconsequential pieces of information'??? More like your VOCABULARY AND ELOQUENCE!

There's also a lot of disagreement about when/if this stuff ever comes back, some say right after birth, some say after 6 years, some say they don't know yet. And then you've got the implications of repeat pregnancies.

Does this loss of memory make people who've had children more susceptible to dementia symptoms? No idea. Because studying AFAB bodies is waaaaaaaaay down the list of priorities and most of this research only happened in the last decade.

'Oh you can just have the one' 'it's not that hard' 'yI know it was an accident, but you might as well keep it'.

Apparently AFAB bodies are only allowed to be permanently changed and 'medicalised' for the benefit of others - the production of children/new tax payers, and not for the actual person inhabiting them.

Like, AFAB people don't just owe the world their bodies for the pleasure of (predominantly) cis straight men. They also owe them their health and body functionality.

Terf rhetoric literally frames AFAB bodies as a community resource.

Terfs are inherently against bodily autonomy.
