spoilers up to the end of dressrosa arc here but. I can't stop thinking about how Law takes on Rosinante's will. Corasan freed him from Doflamingo and the marines and the world government and everyone that ever could have touched him at the time, but has Law really felt free? “Everything I do until I die represents what Corasan achieved” is sweet until you recognise that Law is willing (and planned) to go to the grave for that belief. Until Doflamingo dies there is always a part of him stuck in that treasure chest, constrained by what Law felt happened to Corasan due to him that day.

It's crazy how textbook survivors guilt victim Law is (I’m new here so I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t the first time this has been brought up), but let’s just quickly go over some symptoms:

Obsessive thoughts about the traumatic event ✅ (will go over this in greater detail below)

A sense of disconnection or detachment/need to isolate oneself from others ✅ (Law doesn't fully isolate himself but he definitely has his walls up at all times, though there are often subtle hints of him enjoying the company of the people he chooses to surround himself with. He is notably more reserved, emotionally unavailable, cold and distant than others around him, and watching closely you'll notice that even physically he has a tendency to situate himself three steps behind the group)

Insomnia, nightmares, flashbacks of the traumatic event ✅ (if we can assume some of his backstory expressed in Dressrosa are flashbacks, and also assuming that the perpetual eyeliner he wears are covering some pretty heavy eyebags. Also mention that the only time we see him resting is against Sunny's mast on the way to Dressrosa - and that was 1. a filler episode, and 2. if he was sleeping, it was very quickly interrupted by an attack by petplay guy - a nightmare in of itself)

Irritability and anger ✅ (though elements of this could just be attributed to Law's personality or a natural response to the straw hat's shenanigans, as well as Luffy's total inability to stick to a reasonable plan)

Feelings of despair and thoughts of suicide ✅ (that's Law's Dressrosa arc babe)

Now, there's many reasons why Law is unable to move past this guilt (an apparent lack of therapists in one piece being one of them) - but his inability to believe in unconditional love is likely the biggest offender.

Law may have started off (initially) with one of the most fortunate, stable beginnings, with a loving family and a big house in a rich country (wealth of which was built off the back of lies and corruption and the murder of innocent future generations - we'll get there). But he had a mother and a father who loved and nurtured Law (and were both highly respected doctors in their own right who citizens trusted and relied on). Law's happy beginnings really juxtapose the unfathomable horror that had been lying in wait in Flevance.

Even when shit started to hit the fan, at a very young age (<10 yrs old), Law was already stepping up and showing love for his little sister (lying to her when she was on her deathbed, knowing full well he would likely face the same fate after reading his charts, putting on a brave face for her so she wouldn't be afraid when the screams began to reach their front door, hiding her away when soldiers sieged their home and rushing to check on his parents). Given everything that happened in Flevance, it's completely understandable that, while Law will likely never forget the love his family gave him, remembering it became twisted in the lasting memories of his home — parents riddled with bullet holes. a closet holding a sick little sister waiting for him in a house engulfed by flames. stumbling through a town of friends, neighbours, just... people he used to pass by on the street, now all dead.

Seeing hell, knowing why and how it transpired, who were responsible (spoilers, the World Government; the same body that most citizens believe exist to protect them — yeah, sister "a merciful hand of salvation waiting to help" were perhaps the worst possible combination of words you could have left Law with here. Likely instrumental in having him lose his faith "I don't believe in anything anymore."), knowing he is the only survivor, and fated to die anyway due to the terminal illness that is slowly killing him because some figureheads years back were greedy and the governing powers above the figureheads were willing to cover up everything if it meant garnering a portion of wealth and maintaining influence and control. It's beyond grief, beyond rage. And there's absolutely nowhere Law can put it. No one he can retaliate against. Who could come out of hell knowing this and not want to see the world burn?

So, smart little Law escapes under a pile of bodies and goes to the one person infamously revered for being in the business of that kind of thing. And boy oh boy I can only begin to imagine how a young and impressionable Law - fresh from a genocide, with a hole in his heart and a hatred for everything still alive - had his concept of love warped whilst surviving those two years around Doflamingo and his family. A family where members are only welcome so far as they are useful to Doflamingo and his aspirations. Of course Law's going to pick up some fucked up ideas about how love works outside this little white fence he grew up and watched burn down.

Then. Enter Corazon.

Their relationship may begin on shaky legs (near-juvenicide via defenestration in a failed attempt to ward Law away from sticking around) but Corazon quickly becomes the one person in the world Law can trust and rely on again. And Rosinante can only do so much in terms of healing and guiding this broken kid (yes, his position both as Doffy's brother and as a double agent made things difficult, but need I mention he was only 26! 26 when he died!) but he showed Law kindness and compassion when he was at his lowest. He had faith in the existence of a cure that Law was long past believing. Was determined to help him, even against Law's wishes, even if it meant having Law relive his trauma over and over again. Corasan becomes incredibly important to Law, giving him a reason to live beyond just destruction and revenge.

After the rest of the world had long turned his back on him, when he had been nothing but a dying puddle of rage and self-destructive nihilism, Corasan saved Law. He told Law "Aishiteru" - a very rare way of saying "I love you", never used casually due to the depth of its meaning and the massive connotations behind it - in essence translating to "I love you so much I cannot possibly imagine life without you". There's a high likelihood that at his age, Law had never heard these words before, and probably didn't quite understand the weight of Rosinante saying it at the time.

Corasan frees Law, then he dies at the hand of Doflamingo, Rosinante's own brother.

All Rosinante wanted was for this poor kid to go on and live his life unburdened by his more than turbulent history and his connection to Doffy, but I think for all his planning, Rosinante's one critical error was well and truly underestimating how much him loving Law, and loving Law to the extent he did, would mean to that kid. Law really went from that ten year old hollow void sentiment of "why does anyone or anything at all get to exist when everything that was important to me is dead, burned to ashes and wiped off the map" to "I should have died at age thirteen and every second I've lived since then, I've only lived as a result of Corasan's efforts and as a personal affront to Doflamingo." This time, Law has a tangible, heinous 10 foot monster of a target to direct 1. his grief and anger and 2. justice for Cora towards, and this time he has the power and will to follow through. More than that, he believes Corasan sacrificed himself for him because he's a D. (someone destined to rain down destruction on the gods - Doflamingo, in this case). Corazon becomes a saint that Law dedicates the rest of his life to. Which is something that Law is not vocal about to just anyone he comes across, but is so unbelievably obvious once you know what you're looking at — his tattoos, his jolly roger, his crew, his ship, his ambitions, his beliefs, his fucking. custom-made Corazon jacket. all of it for this man that showed Law - at a time when he hated the world and everything in it - love. For all of six months. max.

And his whole life and personality and behaviour CONTINUES to be guided by this trauma — the way he's reckless with himself, his borderline self-destructive actions, the way he keeps telling himself that none of it would've been worth it unless Corasan's last wishes are fulfilled, the way he surrounds himself with bright people and soft things, the way it doesn't register that his crew genuinely loves and cares about him, the way he's terrified of losing anyone important to him again (and I would say this is one of his biggest downfalls as a Captain compared to someone like Luffy - who is just as reckless as Law is but trusts his crew, doesn't try to send them away, isn't afraid to let them grow and risk their lives for him like Law is with the heart crew), his inability to take a damn compliment. The way he doesn't understand Luffy AT ALL.

Doesn't understand that this alliance that he's brokered means nothing to Luffy because he sees him as FRIEND. No transactions or mutually beneficial pacts necessary. Doesn't get that he's the one that inadvertently asked Luffy to be his friend, thus breaking a long chain of people (mostly parental figures and siblings) abandoning or leaving Luffy behind/no one taking the first initiative to ask to be around him. Law is complete and utterly in the dark as to why someone would ever bat for him when the stakes are this high for no other reason than because they like them and care about them as a person.

Luffy, with his playground rules where he loves unconditionally and will take on the world for a friend he made five minutes ago, perplexes Law with his sheer simplicity.

When Sengoku tells Law, "Don't try to find a reason for someone's love", I do NOT think he takes it well. Because there must be a reason. There has to be. Between the two options of Corasan saving Law's life and freeing him because he believed in the will of D., or Rosinante saving him for no other reason than because Law was a kid that was loveable, and because he loved him unconditionally... everything we've learned about how Law functions up until this point suggests the former will always make more sense to him, and after everything he's been through, is most likely less painful for him to accept.

General thoughts

ELIOT EPISODE!!!!!! It’s kind of sweet how we sort of know when each episode will focus on each character. Like Eliot is when they go rural, and Nate is if there are children. So I can now check off boxer after horse girl with Eliot ✅ and it’s interesting how can still see a strain on Sophie and Eliot’s dynamic but this time doesn’t have to do with betrayal but just understanding now. 

And ough the way Eliot plays the skittish dude who works under Nate out of debt for the com was just *chef’s kiss* I would have fallen for that persona instantly if he played THAG on me. The way this team would have conned me so bad if I was their target lol 

But yeah, this episode was so fun and I can’t believe I was fooled into the “Eliot got drugged” scene because these guys are smart!!!!! They would know he would play this and they just pretended like Rucker fooled them and AGHHHHH 🤧 lmao on to next episode

I come out of my room, grabbing a slice of bread to eat on the way to school. I don’t want to take another bite of the slop they’re serving today, so this will have to do.

“What’s going on with you? You’ve never been this consistently late!”

Oh shit, he’s catching onto me!

“I… uhh… had a nightmare… again….”

“Are you sure you don’t need to see a doctor, or stay home?

“It’s fine little bro, I promise it won’t happen again.”

“That’s what you said last time.”

“What was that?”

“Nothing! Let’s go!”

We locked the door to our apartment and head out, meeting up with Leon. As usual, he’s all sunshine and happiness as soon as he sees me.

“Good morning! Sleep well?”

“My brother had another night-mmm!”

“Nothing, it’s fine!” I say, covering my brother’s mouth with my hand.

It’s not fine, I just don’t want Leon to force me to stay home, making me make up 6 hours worth of missed schoolwork on top of the homework.

“Ok…?”

“Anyways, we’re gonna be late to catch the train, we should hurry!”

All three of us started hurrying over to the train station, rushing past pedestrians, and barely slipping into the train before the doors closed. Thank goodness that my little brother’s here, cause he knows how to talk with Leon better than I do—

“Hey! Your brother and I were wondering if we could go to the mall later today, he heard from his friend that a new Mochi Donut place just opened up and…”

Oh no, he’s getting flustered, please don’t be a date, Please don’t be a Date!

“Umm, if we could…”

“If we could hang out together after school if you’re not busy.” My little brother said, helping Leon out.

“Oh! I-I guess so…”

“Great!” Leon said, beaming as if he’d just won the Yandere lottery.

Aww, he looks so cute… maybe I do want a date. Wait! Would that put me in danger of Him?

By the time the train arrived near our school, Leon was still as happy as ever. However, I was still nervous to go to school, knowing who awaited me there.

“Would you look at that, we got lucky! There’s still food left!”

“Oh… goody…”

Despite getting as little food as possible, I didn’t eat an atom of it. Instead, I slid my tray over to Leon, who happily accepted more food.

As I looked around the breakfast area and waiting, I noticed something strange, or rather, I noticed a lack of something. It was too peaceful.

Is he late to school today?

I didn’t want to disturb Leon, who was enjoying himself, with the very mention of Vincent, so I turned to my brother.

“Hey, little bro, do you know where Vincent is today.” I asked in a whisper.

Despite him whispering back, the response felt louder than it should.

“Who’s Vincent?”

“……You’re joking, right?!”

From my Brother’s expression, I could tell that he was serious.

“You know, Vincent? Goes to our school, super popular, has too much money to spend?”

“Umm, yeah, I have no idea who you’re talking about.”

“What are you two taking about?” Leon said, looking over at us.

Before I could even move my hand to cover his mouth, he spilled the beans.

“My brother is wondering about this guy named Vincent who’s apparently super rich.”

And just like that, My fate was sealed as I watched the happiness drain from Leon’s face.

The Brother who was once my savior was now going to be my downfall. I closed my eyes in horror of the skull breaking punch that was going to hit me. If I was going to die, I didn’t want to watch.

“Who?”

I opened my eyes to see that Leon’s supposed anger was instead confusion. Which was very concerning itself because this is the one person who should know Vincent. He Hates Him!

“Oh, umm… it’s nothing!” I said, trying to mask my worry.

“Ok?” My brother said, as we went back to eating.

Surpringly, Leon shrugged it off and went back to eat as well. Not a single hint of anger on him.

What the Hell is going on?!

As I walked into class, I noticed how this is the closest Vincent and I share a class today (a lesson learnt when he immediatly ambushed me after this class, since he was just one classroom away)

Curiously, I went over to the classroom nextdoor he was in before the bell rung to as some classmates about it. I walked up to a boy and tapped on his shoulder, wondering if he shared the same Vincent-Specific-Amnesia Leon and my Brother shared.

“Uhh, hello? Do you know where your classmate Vincent is?”

“Oh, Vincent!? He’s coming. He’s usually fashionably late, pretty typical of him.”

Oh thank goodness this is just a prank, wait no, I shouldn’t be happy about that, that means Leon’s pissed at me!

“There you are Vincent! This guy here was wondering where you were?”

When I looked at him, but it was just another blue shadow.

“You need anything?”

Right, other people can be named Vincent too… 😬

“I, uhh…”

Shoot! What do I say?! In fact, why did I even ask about his presence?! I should have know that if he knew I was looking for him, it was only going to boost his ego (and his clinginess)

“Uhh, hello?”

Vincent then snapped his fingers over my face, grabbing back my attention.

“Oh! Sorry! I needed you for an eraser!”

Way to fuck that up me, now they’re gonna think I’m an idiot, or messing with them.

“Oh! You’ve noticed my eraser collection! Well, I can give you the pink one for free, or you can choose a custom one for 5 cents!” He said as he pulled out a pouch of erasers and showed them to me.

Wait, that worked?!

“I’ll have the pink one, thank you!” I said, taking the eraser he gave me and hurrying back to my classroom.

That was close. I think that was a warning from the Universe to stop asking about Vincent.

Before I knew it, the school bell rung to dismiss the class for lunch. Looking around the halls, I didn’t see a single red hair from the crowd.

Wait, no! I should stop worrying about him! He’s the guy trying to keep me in his basement forever!

I rushed into the lunch room to get my mind off him. Before I entered, I saw Leon approach Vincent, the blue shadow of course, and I ducked out of sight in guilt.

Oh no, this guy’s gonna die because I got worried about Vincent! Shit! What do I do?!

“Hey, your name is Vincent, right?”

“Yeah, and you must be…”

“Leon.”

“Ah, Leon! I knew I recognized you somewhere! The basketball team, right?”

“Yes! Anyways, earlier today, my friend was asking me where you were? At first I didn’t remember anybody named Vincent, then I remembered you. Did you have anything to do with that?” He said, trying to mask his suspicious tone towards Vincent.

“Was your friend a guy with dark hair and pink pants? Cause he talked to my friend earlier today asking where I was too.”

“Yes! Do you happens to know why he did that?” He said, glaring down at him.

“He told me that he needed an eraser. It’s amazing that he remembered my collection.” He said, pulling out the same large pouch full of erasers from earlier.

And with that response, all traces of jealously and suspicion were immediatly erased (pun intended).

“Oh, neat!”

“In fact, you want to see it? I have some specials from conventions I’ve collected over the years! Spares of course, can’t give away the really important ones!”

“So that’s why he though you were super rich.”

“What?”

“Nevermind, I think I like the pink one best. How much does it cost?”

“Oh, those ones are free, I have like a million back at home. Your friend actually wanted one of those as well.”

“Oh! I’ll take one!”

“Pleasure doing business with you!”

“But I didn’t give you a cent!” He said, with a laugh.

“But you bought me extra storage.”

“I guess I did!”

They laugh and the two parted ways on a good note before Leon noticed me.

“Oh, hey! There you are!”

“Oh, hey! I saw you were talking to Vincent.”

“Yeah, and guess what. We have matching erasers!” He said, showing me his pink eraser with half a heart in the middle.

I took mine out and looked at it, was also the same, but the half heart was on the opposite side of Leon’s.

“Oh! It’s like they complete each other!” He said, hiding a blush.

“Oh, they do.”

The rest of the lunch period was normal, but now that it’s been confirmed that Vincent wouldn’t be a bother to me, I relaxed a bit.

It was after school, and we were taking the train to the Donut place in the mall. I let Leon hold my hand on the way there, his hand was warm, yet gentle. And I could feel his joy radiating from him. To be honest, I think it’s starting to rub off on me too, because we started swinging our arms back and forth.

Maybe I should relax, if fact, this is a good thing! Since Vincent won’t be a problem anymore, supernatural reason or not, that means he can focus on Leon’s route from now on!

“Here we are!” Leon said, pointing at the donut place.

“Would you look at that, the line’s not that long!”

We joined the line and looked at the menu, there were so many options! It was so difficult to choose.

“Oh my… there’s just too many flavors and toppings to choose from. Not to mention the drinks!”

“I think they have a couples menu for Valentine’s Day, that sounds cute.”

“Yeah, it does!”

When we get up to the counter, my brother ordered two Strawberry donuts, while Leon and I got the Valentines Special.

“You two are very lucky, it’s the last one in stock for today!” The receptionist said, giving us a box.

When we went to sit down and open it, it was no wonder why it was so popular.

There, pink hearts decorated the pink and white frosting of the donuts, along with sprinkles. They were also an even amount of donuts, and a boba with a dual straw for two to drink one drink.

Leon took the drink and stabbed the straw in the dead center, before turning to me.

“Let’s dig in!”

Looking at the food made my stomach rumble from missing out on lunch.

“Do you want one of my donuts? You sound hungry.”

“No, it wouldn’t be fair, it’s an even amount for a reason.”

“I insist, you need it more than me.”

We started eating our donuts, enjoying the berry and rose flavoring on our tongues. Because of my hunger, it tasted heavenly, and I didn’t realize how messy of an eater I was until I heard Leon and my brother chuckle.

“What’s so funny?”

“You have icing on your mouth and it looks like a moustashe!” He said, chuckling. I reached for my phone, only to realize that my hands were dirty from the icing as well.

“Hey Leon, can you show me it through your phone? My hands are dirty.”

“Sure!” He said, pulling out his camera to show me for a moment before turning it the other way.

He was right, there was an icing moustache on me. I licked it off with my tongue and sucked the icing off my fingers.

“Wow! That was amazing! I feel much better already!”

“I’m glad you like it! I knew it was the right choice!”

“Anyways, I wonder what the drink is like.”

We both went to put our mouths on the straws, only to boop noses.

“Oh, sorry!” “Sorry Leon!”

We both looked at each other awkwardly before doing back to drinking, this time being careful not to bump into each other.

“Mmm, delicious!” He said, while drinking.

I played with the popping boba in my mouth, and looked back at him. He was still a bit flustered from bumping noses.

“Oh, I finished the drink already… do you want the leftover popping boba?”

“Sure! Thanks Leon!”

“Yeah, and thank you for coming with me today! It was fun!”

“I had fun, I think we should come back again?”

“Y-You want to do this again?!”

“Yeah, there are so many flavors we can try out, and this is a pretty good restaurant.”

After I finished the boba, we spent some time window shopping before taking the train back home.

“See you tomorrow!”

“See you tomorrow Leon, Goodnight.”

I couldn’t help but smile, without the craziness and Vincent, this was actually pretty nice. I could forget I’m in a world full of crazy Yanderes as I watch him skip off into the distance. It wasn’t even Valentine’s Day yet!

My brother and I went inside and prepared to go to bed.

“Good night Big Bro.” He said before heading to his room.

“Goodnight.”

As I went into my room, I couldn’t help but feel both joy and fear.

Despite Vincent’s absence making my life so much easier, I couldn’t help but wonder what happened to him. I hypothesized that Leon killed him, but then why wasn’t he mad when I questioned where he was? In fact, why did he and my brother completely forget who he was?

I turned on the computer and Googled Vincent’s name in case there was a murder, but no trace of his exsistence was anywhere, weird. I looked up the name of his family’s company. When I searched up “family” on the company website, my eyes widened in horror.

There was no trace of Vincent in his entire family lineage.

FR tho, my beloved @thecrowslullaby has mentioned in passing I have a very particular way of wording things? So I guess I'd have to say I use a lot of flowery imagery to get my point across. I want my reader to (at least somewhat) feel like they're there with the character, or are the character if they prefer. I like to put a lot of emotion into my writing. And I also very often write about just being in the home; safe places for snuggles and people taking care of one another.

🎯 Have any of your readers accurately guessed major plot points? Care to share which?

Hold on I gotta check Uh the only one I can think of is my Loceit series which is written for Crow as well; it was less they guessed what was coming and more they pointed out connections and details I had thrown in without thinking about and I was like "oh, that's a good idea actually!" 😅😅

Come Home for Sanders Sides fandom didn't necessarily break my heart but it did make me *cry* while writing it. Like,,, ugly cry. And *I* knew it was gonna turn out ok 🤣

I can't decide if I should count Crumbling or not because like,,, I'll literally never be able to read that fic again. I wrote it over like six or eight months and poured every ounce of hate and anger and pain and sadness and a little bit of blood into it trying to make myself heal from a very very bad breakup with my very *very* good friend at the time, and then the aftermath of it all. My heart was already broken when I started writing it.

Anyway...

I must say all the actors do a good job but Sam Reid's acting is just on another level, he understood his character so well that it creates a problem. Every time he's not on the screen I'm getting bored. So far, he's the most charismatic character in this show. (I chose to ignore the hair yes ;-;)

Lots of people say they made Louis less sophisticated and more rough without a reason. I would say that's pretty canon Louis but they made him more...resolute? That's not a bad change ONLY if in the future Louis doesn't accuse Lestat of manipulating him. Cause book Louis was kinda suggestible and show Louis makes all his choices consciously.

And if you read books you know that LOUIS HAD SOME ANGER ISSUES when it came to Lestat so it's canon. I'm just upset he doesn't suffer enough, HE SHOULD SUFFER EVERY SECOND OF HIS LIFE it's his thing🤌🏻

Cons: old Daniel without his Armand; interview scenes (voice-over) pop up when we, as an audience, don't actually need them; not enough Lestat/Louis scenes where we could see their connection. It's a tv show, not a podcast, I don't wanna listen to what great moments they shared together, I WANNA ACTUALLY SEE IT OKAY? Like Louis was sitting in the car counting money with a satisfied smile bit the voice-over says he felt terrible 🥺 like WHERE

38. What's your favorite comic book trope?

Torn between saying the hero's journey, refusal of the call as a more specific thing, or fall from grace. But the more I think about it, the more I realize there's nothing more compelling to me than a character falling from grace, so that's my final answer.

39. What comic plotline gives you brain worms?

The original Parallax plotline. It's just, JUST. Not only is it a fall from grace storyline, is a fall into madness, a leap from faith into ruthless action. Desolation, disillusion, anger and pain biting away at a bleeding heart and a tender love that's been tortured and torn apart. And at the heart of it you have a man that cannot find a way to deal with his grief and so he lets it be the thing that destroys him and everything around him. Yeah.

50. Share anything you'd like to about a character of your choice - a favorite fic, comic panel, an original work you made, anything!

Taking this as a chance to once again talk about Robin 3000 aka THE (OTHER) ROBIN FROM THE FUTURE. I love love how heavily it leans on science fiction tropes and cliches, how it references Star Wars, how it is full of hope and raw potential and honestly I would pay ANYTHING to have any writer over at DC at least reference him. He's just so special and so painfully forgotten.

And SURE the story itself is kind of lackluster but that's what makes it so fucking magical. All that potential, that energy that builds up and you just KNOW something great can be made from it. You just know those characters could be huge. Everything is so well balanced and in just two issues you get a strong sense of who and how everyone is.
