Oh the Joy of having anemia and being prescripted with medication with a single side effect wich is an EXCRUCIATING stomach pain but it's all right cause is very rare, experiencing that side effect, stopping with madication, having period, your anemia just worsened and now having to choose between the low battery mode and the rare stomach atrocity. Power snack! Checking off my Dr Greger’s “daily dozen” checklist with a nutrient-rich snack: a cup of kidney beans, a cup of raw baby kale 🥬 , and some sliced cherry tomatoes 🍅 . Like many women, I am prone to #anemia - a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues - due to an # iron deficiency. When it’s severe, I become weak, I can take only shallow breaths, and my blood sugar levels go crazy. #type1diabetes It can take weeks to recover. It’s important for me to avoid this condition. I focus on getting enough daily iron by combining iron-rich plant-based foods (like kale and beans) with foods rich in Vitamin C (like lemon), which enables iron absorption. That’s why I topped my beans & kale with some freshly squeezed lemon juice 🍋: the snack provided maximum absorption of 30% of my daily iron requirement. Focus? • Excuse me, but what are thoooooose? • I think what’s worse than a muddy brain is a lazy ass doctor. • Without even looking at my bloodwork or EKG, he decided I’m just ‘a stressed housewife’. • Apparently he has ‘been in the game long enough’ to know that women tend to get overwhelmed and ‘stress triggered’ by their household duties. So... as I type, I am snuggled up with this little toothless weirdo and the rest of my crazy fur kids. I’ve been MIA due to a wicked panic attack that rocked my world. • I’ve had panic attacks before, but this one was crazy. I thought I was dying and I could NOT break out of it. • Thanks to a very patient Hunter, a weighted blanket, 2 hours of funny TV, and a Benadryl, I was finally able to sleep. • Panic attacks don’t just happen to the weak, depressed or ‘high strung’.
