The reason I can’t stand Jlaw Katniss beyond the obvious and blatant miscasting (Katniss is a native coded teenager and jlaw is a full grown ass white adult- do the math) is because of how stiff and bland she plays Katniss like on an emotional level. Katniss in the books is extremely emotional, extremely empathetic to the emotions of the people around her- it’s just not a straightforward empathy that people recognize so easily.

You can see this most blatantly in two of my favorite Katniss inner voice lines from the first book- the first being when she argues with Peeta about the help he gave her,, I think it’s very telling how Suzanne describes Katniss’ mental and physical reaction to the argument

“I sound eleven years old when I speak” is so crazy. It doesn’t take much at all to throw her into the past, young and sad and cold and hurting, and she’s very self aware in that feeling bone deep sadness alone is enough to get her mentally back behind that bakery, struggling to find the will to live.

This one is also extremely interesting to me- she describes the grief of losing rue as akin to the pain of dying, it’s very telling that her emotions and grief are physically painful for her to bear to the point it feels like a death.

Like idk Katniss Thesis statement to me is that one quote that’s like. Hold on it’s in my camera roll

“Grief is love’s souvenir. It’s our proof that we once loved…. Love was once mine- I love well.”

Katniss very much is a lover. She loves and she loves well! She tries so hard to be stingy with her love but loving comes naturally to her in a way she actively doesn’t think is true and subconsciously tries to fight against in most cases.

Making Vision Boards

I mentioned vision boards and how they work so well for me in my previous post. Before I get into how I make mine and my tips, here are some goals that I reached by giving myself the ability to see what I was working towards.

2024 (February, April and November - I would include most months, but these were the most memorable)

During February, I managed to live a lifestyle EXACTLY like the one on the photos (studying, working hard, reading more, stretching and taking care of my health).

April was the month that my grades were given (for that specific term) - and guess what, I passed well!! I also studied more Japanese, did more ballet, got more books and baked more that month.

Last but not least, one of my favourite months of last year - during this November, I managed to make new friends, dress really well and feel good about myself, I read more. I essentially achieved everything on this board during that month.

Now these are only some examples of the vision boards that I made throughout the year (and it was my first time trying that out!). But something that I quickly realized was that these vision boards were there not to be stared at without any form of work, I needed to put in the work, not just the pretty images.

Moving on to my tips:

Please make a 'monthly intentions' list or breakdown of what you want to do during the month. These can work towards "bigger" yearly goals, or they can just be random goals you want to work towards, as long as they are taking you forward or maintaining where you are now.

Look for images and quotes that actually align with these goals. Through Pinterest or any other media app. If you are like me, and you want everything to stick to one theme, you can search up colours or 'aesthetics' behind each word. For example, some of the images that I got on my November vision board appeared by searching 'brown aesthetic' and going underneath any images that appeared to align with my goals.

In addition, if you don't manage to find the quotes that you want, you can make them yourself via Canva and save them as images. [Example: November (3rd image) - top row, second image.]

The images chosen don't need to explicitly state "THIS IS THE GOAL" unless you want it to, you just need to have the association with each image.

I want to emphasize this: the images you choose MUST not be ones you kind of just slap on the Canva document or PowerPoint, they actually need to have meaning. (This was something I struggled with while doing my first vision board and it ended up just becoming another random background).

I did mention before, but they do help making each month more intentional. They also give you something to look at when you're maybe feeling unmotivated or tired while working through goals (which is why most of the workbooks made by A.M. Journals feature one). And (in my humble opinion) making monthly vision boards is a lot less daunting that yearly vision boards. I may switch out the focus of each month based on what I'm going through or what goals I really want to press into achieving.

Above all, there is a beauty in being able to navigate yourself, no matter what you go through and no matter what comes your way.

Oscar, sighing: Aye. Sometimes he shows us our path, and I think mine is supposed to lead me back to Arthur. To save him maybe. Or to help where I can.

Noel, putting some pieces together: uh-huh. So is this obsession in a culty way or a queer way?

I've seen a lot of posts lately concerned about what could be revealed in the next Hunger Games book about existing characters, connections between Katniss & the Covey, etc. I just wanted to remind everyone of this quote from Suzanne Collins from 2018:

"Her parents have their own histories in District 12 but I only included what’s pertinent to Katniss’s tale. Her father’s hunting skills, musicality and death in the mines. Her mother’s healing talent and vulnerabilities. Her deep love for Prim. Those are the elements that seemed essential to me. I have a world of information about the characters that didn’t make it into the book. With some stories, revealing that could be illuminating, but in the case of The Hunger Games, I think it would only be a distraction unless it was part of a new tale within the world of Panem."

It's natural to be nervous anytime an author adds more canon to a beloved series, but I want to remind everyone how thoughtful and intentional Suzanne is with her writing. She is not going to add superfluous details unless they serve the story instead of detracting from it. Additionally, what we learn about old characters like Haymitch, Maysilee, or Katniss and Peeta's parents may be new to us, but much of it may have existed from the beginning, informing the characters in the background.

I mostly hope that readers approach the new book with an open mind. Don't be too disappointed if a theory or headcannon you loved turns out not to be true or if a theory you hate is vindicated. Try to separate the book from the online discourse of fans and look at it for what it is before passing judgment. And who knows, maybe the new book won't be great - I think criticism is totally valid, even of established authors. I guess I just hope no one ruins their experience with the book because of ideas about theories based on fan behavior.

The thing about "love is a sacrament that should be taken kneeling" is that it really doesn't fit marriage proposals because it is actually a sad and very catholic coded tbh sentence about humility and worthiness from someone who was at their lowest and it ressonates with me for the parts I agree but also for the parts that I don't and that make me think of an anxious teen on his knees doing one ot the most important rituals (the Confirmation) for a religion he doesn't really believe and that doesn't really accept or believe in him because he wants to make his mom proud and happy (De Profundis was hard for a lot of reasons but I was not expecting my catholic upbriging to be one of them).

The other thing about "love is a scrament that should be taken kneeling" is that everytime someone points out it's not actually about romance they complete it with "is tots about bjs" and like I can see why better than I can see romance but previous perfomance does not equal future results Wilde can write things that aren't puns nor inuendos (shocker I know). So it's not about blowjobs. But like if you want to use it as so, go wild, have fun. Just don't spread it as if it was intencional.
