Thinking many many thoughts about how Jean was Riko's partner for a YEAR and was still rooming with Goon #3. Because that was how unwilling Riko was to let go of Kevin. And how that implies that Jean was placed as his partner both because of the practicality of Kevin being gone AND as a punishment for letting him go in the first place. Being partners with Jean could actually slow Riko down depending on how often he's hurt (because I don't think Riko was all that exempt from the rules to the point where his partner's performance would completely not matter) and he was still placed there. Riko was just THAT angry at him over Kevin's escape. And all the while he was keeping Kevin's side of room like an altar, even back when he didn't even think Kevin could PLAY, because of an injury he caused.

His Valet is, thus far, deliciously hot, angsty, and hilarious (which is really what SM LaViolette books consistently give me). About a third in, and we’ve had:

—our hero getting CONSTANTLY hard during his valet’s Very Necessary bath massages and towel drying (of the ass, between the legs, so on)

—being like “Am I bi? Who knows. That’s a problem for Tomorrow Me”

—(he’s definitely bi but his valet is also secretly a woman…? She uses she/her pronouns and is definitely AFAB but honestly I get genderfluid/generally non-binary vibes)

—she’s like “I am DESPERATE for this man’s dick” and does the logical thing which is to set up a secret masked (and bewigged) rendezvous at a brothel

—during which she realizes that oh! Actually taking a dick is in fact kind of different and more ouch than all the sex she’s had with women!

—and AFTER which she runs home and puts her valet disguise back on to get back to accidentally-on-purpose giving this man confusing boners, knowing he was WITHIN HER like HALF AN HOUR AGO

—her time management? Impeccable

but when it comes down to the wire and both of their lives are at stake, the peril forces them back into their originally intended roles; the crisis causes them to fall back onto what they've always known. tallulah is the princess. chayanne is the knight. and it is his duty to protect her no matter the cost to himself. no matter how much tallulah might beg him to run.
