I have a little personal request if that’s all good. Just something I’ve noticed over the years as various content creators, and I thought it was worth voicing instead of trying to keep it boiled inside <3

If you comment on someone else’s work, and I mean this in the kindest way possible, plz do not put yourself down while doing so. It is not only unkind to yourself, but it also puts the person in a weird, kinda uncomfortable position wherein they’re then obligated to assure you that it’s not true. People aren’t uplifted when they hear “wow, you do xyz so much better than me!”, or “man you do this better than I ever could.” No one wants to hear that. I know a lot of times it’s well-meaning and I absolutely recognize that—I’m saying more when it’s a genuine claw for sympathy and support. Plz, there are people out there who will lift you up, and people who will recognize your strengths and talents! People who you don’t need to look for—they’ll be drawn to you because you’re being yourself. Ig all and all this is another way of saying plz don’t fish for compliments, and plz don’t mar a kind, supportive comment by putting yourself down. I say this bc I have done both of these things before countless times—and it’s not cool. Not at all ❤️

Now! That’s not to say you can never tie in something about yourself into a comment. “I love using this style too!” Is very different than “damn, you make use of this so much better than I do.” I personally like to keep myself out of comments/praise, but that’s a preference! As long as you are trying to make a genuine connection, that’s totally fine! Just be kind to yourself <3 Your heartfelt praise isn’t gonna come across if you put yourself down.

I will say it until the cows come home, bc it’s something people have said to scab over my doubts; your work is amazing, your work is invaluable, and your work is something that no one else can make.
