Children of Earth (and Miracle Day from the look of it just based on the first episode) has a problem with the scale. It shouldn't be worldwide. It should've been UK based only.

I mean, the show itself makes it UK only by the kids only speaking English and pointing to London (LOL) but then it makes some of the smaller inconsistencies bigger. Torchwood somehow not keeping records about the first communication (Jack not remembering is just postponing the mystery), UNIT not really doing anything to solve this when it's an international issue or how China and the US just accept the UK is going to handle this? Somehow? When it involves their countries too?*

It doesn't help with the emotional weight of how children are the targets.

Kids don't really have any agency in this story. Not even of them expressing how they feel used by the 456. They're just a MacGuffin. A worldwide MacGuffin. It would be fine if it was just locally so there could be a bit on more focus in Jacks relationship with his daughter and grandson so there's a nice punch to the gut in the sacrifice.

Clem is... I don't know, but trying to replace the kids? I feel bad for him but at the same time, his mental health issues are written in such a way that makes it quite uncomfortable.

*The 456 could've easily rotate through all the countries to get their drugs instead of jumping right into all of them. Making incremental could help. They just choose the UK at random to be the ambassador of Earth. Not perfect but a bit less silly than what we got.
