In Defense of Marinette
I like Marinette. While there are many valid criticisms of her writing, the same can be said for literally every other character and she's actually doing pretty well given that she's the main character. After all, in a show where consistent characterization is an ongoing issue, the one with the most screen time will probably be the one who's the biggest victim of the issue.
This is heavily exacerbated by the rule that supposedly governs Miraculous. Namely that, in each story, Marinette must make a mistake. Or, at least, so says the head writer:
Tumblr media
I really do not care what this guy says on Twitter or anywhere else. I only care about what's in the show because, if you have to go outside the text to understand the text, then you have no idea how to tell a good story.
However, unlike many of the tweets that I've seen, this one isn't some BS bit of lore. It's a writing rule and it has substantial backing in the text. It's extremely rare to have an episode where Marinette comes out smelling like roses and that's a problem because Miraculous has over 100 episodes. In other words, to follow this rule, the writers have to come up with over 100 ways for Marinette to be wrong so of course she's going to come across poorly. Why would you do this to your main character?
It's extremely common for kids shows to have a "lesson of the day" element to them. Someone always needs to learn something, but I've never seen a show misunderstand the assignment so badly. Learning a lesson is not the same as doing something wrong.
It's been a while since I watched the 2010 version of My Little Pony, but it really leaned into that whole "lesson of the day" thing and it actually knew what it was doing, so I'm going to talk about it briefly to discuss things that Miraculous should have done.
The first thing to note is that MLP had an unambiguous main character - Twilight Sparkle - but Twilight was not the one who learned all of the lessons. She had a pet dragon and a crew of five friends who would, occasionally, be the ones to learn the lesson because there were lots of lessons that simply didn't fit Twilight's character. Instead of warping Twilight to make the idea work (cough cough Ikari Gozen cough), the writers just let someone else have the spotlight for a bit.
This is an excellent way to build out your cast and Miraculous had plenty of opportunities to do it. For example, Lila should not have been Marinette's issue. The fact that Lila hates Marinette could have certainly stuck around, but the one who takes her down and learns to investigate her sources? That should have been Alya. A liar is the perfect enemy for an investigative journalist, but a poor enemy for someone who shines as a battlefield commander and overthinks when she's given too much time.
Another way that MLP would teach lessons was to have someone other than Twilight or the main crew cause the issue that they then had to deal with. This leads to one of the best moments in children's television:
youtube
And, frankly? Marinette deserves a moment like this. That poor girl has been through hell and is never allowed to make the right call when it really matters. The show will even completely rewrite its lore to make her fail (see: Strike Back). That is such an awful thing to do to your lead! Shows about female empowerment should include women feeling powerful and, no, Lila and Chloe don't count!
Also, the show is literally about Gabriel taking advantage of people who are upset. You don't need to have Marinette make a mistake to shoehorn in a life lesson. Akumas are life lesson fodder and season 1 actually seemed to get this. I'm not sure why they switched gears to "Marinette is the star and, therefore, must always be wrong."
The final way that MLP taught lessons was to have Twilight do something wrong because having your main character do something wrong is a totally valid way to teach lessons. It just shouldn't be your only way because you know who is always wrong in children's media?
Villains.
They wrote Marinette like a villain.
And a large part of the fandom hates her for it because of course they do.
You're not supposed to like villains.

Hi petty, so I came across an interesting conversation on reddit. It's about how the BL screenwriters are not getting the credit for their work. From what I understand it's because the director is basically the showrunner and they are the ones responsible for 'creating' the show and OP pointed out something that I agree with: even if that is true the screenwriter has contributed labour and thus they deserve to at least be co-credited for their work. Someone mentioned that because most BLs are novel adaptations the screenwriters aren't doing much work but OP points out that that is not true. Most BLs change the novel in some way, whether to extend the story or to soften it or to shorten it. And like yeah, I see that.
I hadn't thought about this thing until OP pointed it out and now I'm like: have we been making a mistake by not crediting the screenwriter? That feels iffy to me.
I feel that we should be crediting the novel writer, screenwriter and director for the work they do in the scope of their jobs and not let one or two people hog all the credit, you know.
And I think this is a fandom issue.
So, what do you think?
[I know this is a heavy question but I've always respected your opinion that's why I wanted to ask you.]
The Trainee did a great job of demonstrating the production around filming, but in TV and film, screenwriters aren't usually spotlighted in the same realm as the director regardless of the genre. Directors are very important to a film or series because their direction is what guides everything else. They set the tone and the pace of a series, and everyone else has to figure out how to make that vision come to life, and sometimes, screenwriters have to rewrite scenes while filming is happening based on a shift in the director's vision.
However, I'm showing up for the cinematography usually rather than the directing, so I agree with you, and many other people do as well, which is why we have awards and databases that acknowledge the work others put into a series or film beyond the actors and the directors, but at the end of the day, it's usually the director being praised or berated because they are the one in charge.
For example, we have Jojo and Aof, two directors with resumes full of excellent shows like 3 Will Be Free, Moonlight Chicken, and Bad Buddy, but some people believed they fumbled their last series, Only Friends and Last Twilight. Should we blame the screenwriters Bee, Best, and Den who have also written for My Stand-In, Never Let Me Go, and Playboy (which others also felt had issues with the stories)? Last Twilight just won a Maya TV Award for Best Screenplay, so . . . no.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another example is Chao Planoy who has written the novels for most of the GLs we have in 2024. Idol Factory got GAP and My Marvellous Dream is You (Dream), Change2561 took Affair, GMMTV has Us and Pluto, Blank went to Nine Star Studios, Mate is with Zensee, and Apple, which is being produced by Kongthup will probably go to WeTV. Each company uses its own directors, so Idol Factory used the same director for GAP and My Marvellous Dream is You. Both shows also had the same screenwriter. Everything should have been solid for both, but Chao has gone on record stating she disliked the adaptation of Dream, and she felt it was messy. Who's the issue then? Chao wrote the source material. Patty wrote the screenplays for both. Natthaphong directed both, but his vision wasn't as cohesive for the Dream like it was GAP and it shows in the series and ratings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JittiRain is another popular BL writer. Her works include 2gether, Theory of Love, Fish Upon the Sky, and Be My Favorite, which have all been bought and filmed under GMMTV. When turned into shows, her pieces have had different directors and writers, but her lastest, Be My Favorite, was written and directed by people outside of GMMTV's usual roster of professionals. Be My Favorite also didn't use a branded GMMTV pair, yet it is consistently her highest rated series on various platforms, and that could be the result of all these listed reasons, but the praise is put on the director. I agree with this because I think the director, Waa, knew what he was up against and steered the series accordingly. He directs Club Friday, which is a show with the messiest plots, but he knows how to make those stories coherent. He had a vision and saw it through.
Tumblr media
We heard awful things about the director's behavior on the set of Century of Love, but Wo directs several One31 series like Laws of Attraction, To Sir, with Love, and the upcoming Spare Me Your Mercy, so this might hurt him (which it should) while others who worked on the set and contributed to the toxicity will merely get shuffled to other projects.
Tumblr media
There are so many examples that I could give, but as important as it is to acknowledge all of the hard work that goes into these series from everyone involved, at the end of the day, it's the director who is directing not just the series, but the set. If they mess up, we blame them. If things go right, we praise them. Their vision can make or break a series, so when we see a show work really well or fall apart, we normally look at the directors because that is their job.
Tumblr media
Directors give direction to the story. Directors direct the set and all the departments. Directors directly impact the story. Directors are the captain of this ship, and they have to make sure it doesn't sink, and even though they have a lot of help making sure that doesn't happen, it takes a strong person to carry that burden of responsibility.
Tumblr media
Which is why they get (the bulk of) the credit.

so, anyone who'd like to see a rewrite of the princess midnight sparkle saga?
Tumblr media
edit: read the fic here!
i've been thinking about this for a while now. the idea is currently in it's beta stages but i have some ideas for the rewrite:
1) i'll be completely removing delta brony from the story and replacing him with starlight.
2) the mane six will be more relevant in the story, since i was pretty disappointed that they barely did anything in the original.
3) midnight will have more time to shine in equestria. i think that it'd be more interesting if she'd cause havoc there first before going to the human world.
4) i'm making the reasons as to why the spectrometer/amulet is in equestria and how it got it's new abilities ambiguous. fuck this princess dark matter shit LET THERE BE SOME MYSTERY IN THIS BITCH.
(link to the full series here: https://youtu.be/9LLeR4_EIK8?si=5o3r0C4IPNyIxEGo)

It's been about a year since I've posted anything mlp related, but that's because I couldn't draw ponies at all, and basically was taking a general hiatus on posting anything art related while I practiced
Here, I have my interpretation of redesigns for Twilight and Starlight. Starlight is, admittedly, my favorite character, despite how horribly she was handled in the show, but I wanted to show her being confronted by Twilight, to also explore what they could look like next to each other in a redesign meant to make them look unique
Tumblr media
I suck at backgrounds, so I landed on that for now.
Starlight's cutiemark is meant to represent her getting it via taking pony's cutiemarks, which obviously has some lore implications I'm working on in a rewrite au me and my friend @corruptedmissy are doing.
Another thing I want to mention is that he actually took up redesigning Twilight, this is purely my version VAGUELY INSPIRED by his.
I also went for the theming of "light vs dark" with them, which is shown with Twilight's mane and eyes being dark, her coat being light, and vice versa with Starlight.
There's a ton more, but I'll be done ranting now. I will post more mlp content in the future, tho, even if no one looks at it :)

Fic Authors Self-Rec!
Ahhhh thank you @fourteenfifteen for the tag! (You can find Hen's post over here!)
Rules: When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let's spread the self-love
Also I'm totally going to CHEAT, because I absolutely LOVE my two big series that are NOT popular at all LMAO
the scars that we're made of series! This is my "Star Wars Rebels S5" fic. This is my "did you hate the ahsoka show for yes girl giving us nothing??" this is my "do you also want to know what happens after rebels but don't want it to be EXCLUSIVELY thranto?" THIS IS MY FAVORITE SERIES I'VE WRITTEN like the whole thing top to bottom bangers imo It's not yet finished, I still have to write my Eli prequel but honestly, if you love Rebels, read this! Here's the tumblr post for main fic, far from the world that i made.
inside every open eye series! This is a fantasy Magnus Archives fic, in which Sasha steps in to take over the role of the Archivist after Jon goes missing during a ritual for the Beholding. I love a lot of the visuals from this, and I loved writing for Sasha -- plus there's a lot of fun side-stories. This one is complete! Here's tumblr post for the main fic, tiny cracks of light.
my place to land. What is UP SIGNET/ECHO NATION, ALL FIVE OF YOU! I wrote a novel for my rare pair because i am actually three bodyguard AUs in a trench coat captaining the good ship I made up. Twilight Mirage is still my favorite fatt season, because it is exactly my aesthetic and also, Signet is there. This is still one of my favorite fics, even though I can think of many things that i would change upon a rewrite. I got a lot of amazing gift art from friends when I was updating it, too, and I treasure everyone who came to read it!! It is currently still the longest fic in the fatt tag, but not for long it does look like there is someone rapidly catching up with 74k on a 6/14 chapter fic. It was fun while it lasted! Unfortunately, twitter moments went kaput so I will have to figure out some other way to put all the wonderful fanart everyone made for me!
'til my lungs burn bright. Affectionately called my "regency magic spies AU" for Ace Attorney, specifically this is for AA4/Klapollo!! This is a sequel to a fic I haven't finished yet! (Someone encourage me to finish the main fic! it's what i'm supposed to be working on this month!!) I love this setting SO much and I loved making all the little references to in-game moments. Here's the tumblr link to the fic ;) I had a hard time picking between this and my sleeping beauty klapollo au.... Also shout-outs to Joanie for doing the WONDERFUL art for it!!! (I should actually go put it in-line with the fic text too oops)
Theseus' Ship. The Anders Defender has LOGGED THE FUCK ON. That's it that's the post. No okay, it's an Anders character study and i think it absolutely slaps. Here's the tumblr link to the fic!
Bonus very short fic that I still enjoy, which you can also read even if you're not in the fandom, but Five Steps To Ensure Your Soulmate Becomes a Ghost from Rusty Quill Gaming.
Honestly I love everything I write because I am an audience of me first. The current version of my masterpost has links out to a lot of my fics from different fandoms -- like some of my other friends at the table content and my jgm labyrinth au and my lockwood fic! That's my best piece of advice: love what you write, and write for yourself first! And then the two little freaks in your group chat second 💞 I wouldn't have been able to do most of these fics without the besties, so thank you to everyone who has read my novel-length fics.
Tags: Scrambling to think of any of my fic writing friends let's goooo @luukeskywalker, @mariusperkins, @lesbianahsokatano, @redtailedhawk90, @bardicspiration, @krisseycrystal , @strangeharpy and there's so many of you i love you all, please go flaunt your writing and talk about your five favorite fics!! and tag me!!

Fic Author Self-Rec!
tagged by the lovely @mareenavee , thank you so much!! <3
tagging @dirty-bosmer @orfeoarte @gilgamish @umbracirrus @totally-not-deacon @v1ctory-or-sovngarde @thequeenofthewinter and YOU!! no pressure to participate, and if you haven't written 5 fics, feel free to just talk about whichever ones you have!!
Rules:
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love!
i'm going to paste each fics summary, and then go on my tangents!
An Inner Sanctity
Two months after attempting to utilize the Eye of Magnus and gain it's power, Ancano wakes up in an unfamiliar cottage, being cared for by the very person he intended to destroy. Navigating their strange and new dynamic, the Thalmor agent finds he may be offered second chance at life, but whether or not he takes it is another story.
this fic is a huge work of exploration into what indoctrination can do to someone who has never known any different, and how that can affect things as broad as worldviews and as personal as one-on-one dynamics with people. it's also partially catharsis-fic, as giving ancano some of my own mental and physical issues and dialing it up to 10000000000% is a hell of a lot of fun. i love seeing that old man suffer and then earn his rise from the ashes. plus, using athenath in a fic where they cant rely on the other two of the trio - as this is in an AU i call the "athenath solo run" - forces me to think of how they would handle situations on his own. spoiler? not too well.
it's on a hiatus at the moment despite having a pretty long backlog, i just don't have the motivation right now to edit and write more for it, but that definitely will change in the future, because i really love exploring ancano's psyche and how he begins to grow and change.
also the fic title comes from the song "Twilight" by Bôa, while that doesnt have anything to do with the fic, i loved the line "you give me an inner sanctity", sooooo <3
The Mark You Left
Two scientists realize, upon losing contact with Dr. Richtofen, that they are truly alone in the aftermath of their actions.
i don't have 5 fics for TES, so have my singular CoD Zombies fic as well! i've had a special interest in the ultimis timeline of CoD Zombies since uhhhh 2011? maybe? sometimes it lays dormant for months and then all of the sudden i think about it daily, especially the dynamics between Dr. Schuster, Dr. Richtofen, and Dr. Groph. so, i wrote this as a bit of a loveletter to a fandom i no longer am part of, but still have a lot of fondness for. it's a quick read that hits on this concept of ultimate betrayal in the aftermath of literally betraying someone else for that person. two people dealing with that, processing that, and what they'll do in the wake of all of this.
the title for this fic comes from the song "Birds" by BENN, who used to make CoD Zombies-based songs before rewriting/redoing them for his own original work!!
Portraits Under Forgotten Suns
A collection of short one-shot fics done for TESFest 2023. A werewolf in his cage, a Bosmer alchemists' first memory, a Dunmer mage's quiet contemplation, a humble keeper's last look at the place he's called home, a sailor's fate at the wreck of the Brinehammer, and an Altmer bard's fond summer memory.
as it says on the tin! its a series of one-shots i initially published to tumblr, then moved to Ao3 to make them more accessible and have a ready archive of them! i loved working on each of these, getting into different perspectives, and figuring out how to convey the narratives of the characters i worked with. i liked writing up details of my dragonborn trio's pasts, too, and the story for "Forgotten/Devotion" was a hell of a lot of fun, getting to pull the wreck of the brinehammer into a fic!
If by Sun and Moon I Swore
With the Empire's victory in the Skyrim Civil War, Hadvar has been quietly readjusting to regular life. When an old friend turns up at his door, that quiet he'd hoped for comes to a halt.
i love hadvar/ralof with all my wretched pining heart okay. i cannot deny this pair has a vice grip on me! and working with them, two soldiers touched by war on opposite sides who once had something (in this case, used to be (and still are) in love), can be something both so tragic and so healing. pulling this pair back together, giving them some form of comfort, even if it's brief, is such a joy. i have intentions of writing more for this couple in the future, but that's likely going to be a while. still, i'll be sure to let you guys know if i do get around to it!!
this fics title is from "Like The Dawn" by The Oh Hellos! its my quintessential hadvar/ralof song for sure <3
Cycle of the Serpent
Surviving Helgen by the skin of their teeth, three elves find themselves tossed into the middle of ancient legends, a civil war, and a hell of a lot of problems. They may all have different reasons for being in Skyrim, but if they have any hope of reaching their destinations alive, it lies in learning to trust their strange new companions… no matter what. From the ruins of Helgen to the plains of Whiterun, from the seas of Solitude to the grim frost of Winterhold, and everywhere sprawling beyond, the unlikely trio will find that being chosen by Akatosh is more than they've ever bargained for. And with their own histories crawling back, and secrets slowly spilled, the trio may find that there's little they can do to escape the cycles they've made.
this longfic is… a huge undertaking. "An Inner Sanctity" focuses on two very flawed people coming to love one another. "Cycle of the Serpent" focuses on three very flawed, extremely fucked up people learning to trust one another and face whatever fate awaits them together, even when that trust is tested, even when the world is cruel, even when trauma batters and bruises them in the current and then rises up from the briny depths of the past to tug them back down beneath. it's about sustained and sometimes self-fulfilling cycles of hurt, anger, and sometimes vengeance, and it's about love and joy and companionship and friendship that lives within it all.
in short, this longfic is one of my biggest undertakings in a very long time.
i started this as a bit of a joke. the idea of there being more than one LDB was a fun idea, and then i created three elves, and those three elves gave me their family histories and their childhood friendships and their previous travels and how it changed them all prior to helgen and i went… yeah i can't just not write this and go insane about it. these three and their various methods for dealing with situations, their triumphs and defeats, and how they bounce off one another became so organic and real to me that i feel continuously pulled to keep their narrative going. this story forced me to write my first ever combat scenes (posted the snippet of my second ever real combat scene tonight!) and learn how to navigate keeping it within TES lore, while also breaking out of some of the stale writing in skyrim itself. i have plans to rewrite/overhaul entire questlines and characters to give them more life, and i've got dozens of OCs lined up - at least one of whom is hinted at within the first chapter. i have this story and these characters arcs planned out, and they do get particularly grim at points, but i never want this story to go into "there is no hope" territory. there's always hope, it just lies in learning to break your own cycles, even if it feels like it may kill you.
the title of this fic was taken from the song "Pillar of Na" by Saintseneca, i very heavily envision emeros as the first verse, athenath as the second, wyndrelis as the third, with the fourth being all three of them, and the fifth (the "eternal, eternal, eternity round…") being a sort of ensemble of all the places and people they've touched in their lives.
woooooooooooooooo!! that was long-winded. thank you for listening to me ramble on these, and thank you so much again for tagging me, mareena!! i hope everyone is having a lovely wednesday/thursday!! <3333

So, I rewatched Joel Schumacher's 'Phantom of the Opera', a movie I was obsessed with as a teenager and new adult.
Tumblr media
And I had THOUGHTS.
Being in a committed relationship has given me (someone who doesn't always do much rewatching) the chance to revisit and reappraise art from my childhood and adolescence.
And I'm working on being kind to my younger self.
There was a time when I was obsessed with this movie, if you had asked me as a 15 to 18 years old to name my favorite movies this would have been one of them. Now I'm a few years shy of thirty, I've studied film at the Masters level, I've studied and written on musical theater and opera. Importantly I've seen Phantom live and I've seen the Royal Albert Hall recording. All this to say that I'm very aware of this films shortcomings as an adaptation, as a musical, and even as a film.
But I think it's still a 'good' film.
Because, despite this films shortcomings, understanding why I liked it at a teenager helped me appreciate it.
Tumblr media
I don't know if this is a hot take, but in the original show, the Phantom is not only the antagonist but his relationship with Christine is creepy. He is older than her by enough that she at first thinks he is the ghost of her father and his more sexual feelings toward her coincide with the increasing body count and other factors that reveal him as an increasingly malevolent force. It's one of the things that makes the show so good.
The film makes the Phantom's position as antagonist much more complicated by aging him down. Gerard Butler plays the phantom as a young man and the rewrites make his and Christina's ages closer. The idea of him as the spirit of her father is downplayed, and the sexual tension between Christina and Phantom is played up.
Tumblr media
It's important to note that while this is an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical that he is producing made by his production company, Joel Schumacher not only directs the film but is credited as the co-writer.
So I will credit him with the changes between the stage show and the film.
This makes sense when you look at Schumacher's body of work. Sexual tension (be it heterosexual or homosexual), physical beauty, and young people discovering themselves and the world are ideas that appear in his work again and again. Film phantom is a Schumacher protagonist, an alienated young person trying to figure out where he fits in the world. A man who understands love as something good that he wants but is clumsy about how to actual go about pursuing it. A man of restrained passions and feelings he can't express. In the song 'No One Would Listen' (a film original song that didn't make it into the film beyond the credits) the phantom sings about how his love of Christine and his love of music both came about from feeling profoundly lonely following his escape from the carnival and being drawn to something beautiful.
Webber's phantom is a predatory man, Schumacher's phantom is a lonely boy.
Tumblr media
And this profoundly changes the work, it's a subtle change that flew over the heads of most critics, both professional or pop culture (looking at the Lindsey Ellis squad) but it's a changes that fundamentally changes the work. It becomes a work of art meant for lonely young men who feel hated by the world for reasons beyond their understanding. And for those men and boys it shows them how destructive their actions have the potentially to really be when they lash out from their loneliness.
"The tears I shed for your sad fate, grow cold and turn to tears of hate."
It's a messy work, but one that has value as a work of transitional adolescent media. Similar to the first Twilight where it gives adolescents a space to feel certain emotions and should be given some grace for that good.

The last of my three Buffyverse ideas:
I've had these on the back burner for a decade and waited until the Buffy comics were done to avoid having to constantly reinvent the wheel to do the full thing, but it all started with the old-model 'Wish to resurrect Tara Maclay' fics that are the worst part of shipping culture making the ship overshadow the people involved.
These five stories can essentially be said to be 'the last five seasons of Buffy if Tara Maclay came back in Season 8 and got to deal with the death of magic and the magic concentration camps like everyone else did.' They are both a reconstruction and a deconstruction of elements of the Buffyverse idea of soulmates, of a lot of tropes in Tara x Willow fanfics, and simply put an excuse to write Tara Maclay and Willow having their own badass adventures separately and then together and not do the racist thing of throwing the obnoxious Latina under the bus while the obnoxious demon gets a pass because she's played by a white woman.
Also featuring my idea that absent pesky actor contracts the First Evil very much did appear as Tara and that this would be a complicating extra shadow over all the other trauma, and that without the ultimate longer-term effects of the Twilight War.
The irony, too, is that in this case all of Willow's actions in Seasons 8 and 9 ultimately stem from loving Tara enough to want people to remember the actual human and to give her time to adjust to being alive again on the one hand, and loving Kennedy enough to not simply discard her for not being Tara because their dynamic, while vastly different, very much does have its own recommendations.
Also going to feature, along with my series rewrite, the idea that the world of Buffy had at least a bit in common with that of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in that Dracula is not the only classic literary character to have been real (and not just the Cthulhu Mythos ala the Order of Dagon and Yog-Sothoth, aka Dawn Summers). One of them also has some support from the earlier episodes of the show and that one episode with the formula, as the Mk. I model makes its reappearance and with it the full-blown effects.

Hey. Hope your taking care of yourself. Also was wondering are you also posting your fanfics on wattpad and ao3?
And when are you going to finish your Sebastian Kydd fanfic? I am a fan of your Austin Butler related work.
Take care.
👍🏻🙃🙂😊
Hey! Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it. I hope you're doing good as well <3
I am posting on both Ao3 and Wattpad.
I'll be completely honest, I haven't been really into Austin Butler lately, so the Sebastian Kydd fanfic might take a while to finish or just not at all, so sorry. But I do try to not give up completely on my fanfics so there is hope but I don't think anytime soon. Life's been so extremely busy recently so my writing's been slow and I've been trying to mainly focus on Twilight Scars, but I have been putting some work in behind the scenes, so don't worry.
But as far as Austin Butler goes, I don't plan on making any new fanfics of him. However, I am in the process of rewriting Milk & Honey. For the most part it's exactly the same but I've been trying to polish it up a bit, if you were looking for an excuse to reread lol. My tumblr posts are updated every time I rewrite a chapter, but if you're looking to see which chapters are currently updated I recommend reading it on Wattpad or Ao3.

This is why you NEED to note down ideas you have, especially if you have a bad memory. People with amnesia carry notebooks all the time with them to make sure they can function day to day. Heck even a checklist on how to write a certain character can work.
//I don't possess that type of amnesia, as I don't think that my memory loss is THAT severe. Regardless, I honestly think I need to start writing down and noting ideas for not only the Practical Exams Arc but also the rest of any future arcs in general, especially for Season 2, where it's going to be completely original storylines going forward.
//Since this is the first arc that I've ever written, obviously I would be unaccustomed to how writing a story arc functions, or just writing a story blog in general. Now, this doesn't mean I don't have any writing talent, as there are a few story chapters that have been well written and well received, albeit they could've been expanded upon greatly.
//The main situation that I have with this blog is massive inexperience. I started this blog in September of 2023, and I would start the story near the end of the month. Considering that it's officially near the end of November, and we have been through so much plot progression(For better or worse), I'll have to admit that I was out of my depth when it came to writing this arc, as I didn't know how to handle certain types of characterization, like with Ibuki or Sato.
//And the dialogue absolutely reflects the amount of inexperience that I had going into this, as most of the dialogue is a really divisive bag between actually decent to completely weak and idiotic, and the amnesia wasn't helping things either.
//One thing I've been doing is trying to write down my ideas for certain characters and plot ideas for each story arc on Google Docs, observing their characterization from ASOOT, their interactions with other characters, and how they would behave and be characterized in this alternate world, which has far more significant issues besides the corruption of Hope's Peak, despite being one of the main important parts of the story to me.
//Another thing is that while I'm wholeheartedly enjoying writing the arcs for the season, I honestly didn't have the motivation to write this arc, as I felt it was just repeating the same formula that many other moderators for story blogs have executed far better than I'm doing. It's not wrong if you want to use an already existing idea for your introductory arc, but considering that the Twilight Syndrome Arc is one of the main introductory ideas fellow story moderators tend to write when it comes to Danganronpa 3 rewrites, it feels kind of repetitive to me, as I feel that I haven't really come up with anything truly original or noteworthy to set this blog apart from its predecessors.
//I had a conversation with Mod Bubbles on DM, and he brought up some incredibly valid points, saying that I shouldn't be afraid to take things in my own direction, and I actually agree with that point. Considering that the general consensus around the rest of the audience is pretty much everyone thinking "This is ASOOT, but with alternate history", I want this blog to be SO much more than that conception.
//Luckily, I've been trying to write down my notes on how to conduct future arcs on Google Docs, and it's been really helpful for my ability to write as a writer so far, considering that I started to do it yesterday. I'm going on the sole notion that I don't even have a clue as to how to correctly plan out a story arc and how to make better writing and dialogue for the rest of the story, so I've resorted to the most indigenous methods on planning out the story, by using Google Docs to take down important notes of information I researched and bring them into life in the story.
//If there's any advice for future story blog moderators, it's that before you start to officially begin a story arc, always make sure you planned your idea out for your story arc in advance, in terms of writing, characterization, dialogue, plot moments, conflict, lore, and resolutions, and take your notes in whatever different kind of format you want to save them in, so you don't forget what you conceptualized. I'm learning this experience the hard way, so consider this writing advice for how not to officially start a story, because otherwise, people don't really get invested that much in your story to even begin with.

writers asks: 1, 6, 9, 11, 25, 30, 40, 48, 58, 69, 92, 94, 99.
I honestly would like to hear all your answers put i picked my favorite questions.
Pistachio!! Sooo many questions, I'll do my best.
1. do you know how you want the story to end when you start, or are you just stumbling through the figurative wilderness hoping to find a road?
I usually know where I want my characters to end up, but that doesn't always equate to a proper ending. Endings have always been hard for me to articulate. As a kid in school, I got feedback from a primary school teacher once that I needed to include something at the end of my stories to indicate that it was really the conclusion. My autistic ass starting ending every single story I wrote with the sentence, "And that is all." 😂
6. do you have any kind of consistent writing schedule or just hoping for the best?
Not really. I write when I've got a decent chunk of time open (at least an hour) and I'm feeling writery feelings. Some nights, most weekends. During nanowrimo I write during my lunch break, mostly out of necessity to meet word count.
9. in an ideal world where you’re already super successful and published, would you want to see a tv or movie adaptation of your work? why or why not?
I'd be pretty content just to be successfully published, BUT I'm definitely not turning down an opportunity for Jodie Comer to option one of my books for a TV series a la Big Swiss so I can meet her and be awkward. 🥴
11. what’s something neat you’ve learned while doing research for something you were writing? also, how much do you worry about doing research in general?
I do worry quite a bit about research because I know how jarring it can be as the reader when an author writes something that is pure nonsense wrt something I know about. That said, I don't always know what I don't know, so I'm sure I miss all kinds of things.
The neatest thing I've ever stumbled upon is escaping me right now, but the most recent thing that sticks out was stumbling upon the gem of the towns Sappho and Beaver near Forks for my goosey Killing Eve/Twilight AU (Evenfall). I found that far too funny.
25. what’s your revision or rewriting process like?
I usually start each writing session be rereading the last section I've written and I catch a lot of edits there. Once I'm reasonably confident about a full chapter, I actually listen to it twice using a text-to-speech feature. I find I catch a lot more of my mistakes when I listen than when I read with my eyes.
And then I immediately find like three more mistakes as soon as I share or publish what I've written. Because of course.
30. most inspirational quote you’ve ever read or heard that’s still important to you.
I'm (perhaps weirdly) not big on inspiration or inspirational quotes. And, as noted in one of the other ask games, I'm a little bit of a jerk? So, my favorite quote is actually the running bit in Candide by Voltaire where they make fun of the "best of all possible worlds" philosophy. You will catch me in real life regularly punching down on things by saying, "In this, the best of all possible worlds." I guess this jives with my "things suck, bring a bat" philosophy.
40. best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
I had a computer science professor who took me aside once and told me I should write textbooks because students would actually engage with and learn from my writing. I really like to explain and to teach, so this was maximum flattery for me.
At the moment, though, there's a person who is mostly commenting screaming and keyboard smashes on Evenfall and I'm really enjoying that. 🤣
48. do you reread your own stories?
Not once they're finished. I read and reread as part of my editing process, by the end I'm a bit sick of it. And if too much time goes by and I come back to read, my style/voice/skill has changed and then I feel sad-cringe about my older work.
58. what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were writing it?
"which movie did edward and bella have sex?" 🫠 hahaha
69 (nice). how do you write emotional scenes? do you ever feel what the characters feel?
I find this challenging because I want to shout at the characters to do the "right" thing and not necessarily the authentic emotional response that they would have? For example, character is going to misunderstand and be hurt or character is angry and won't listen to apology—it kills me to write that sometimes.
The how...eh, I just write stuff and step back and see if it feels authentic. I try to draw from my own experiences and emotions, but can't always tell how well that translates for others because my emotional processing is maybe non-typical as a non-neurotypical individual.
92. first, second, or third person?
Third person is typically my jam as a reader and a writer, though I do love me some unreliable narrator first-person works. My big struggle as a writer is the different flavors of third person—omniscient, objective, partial/limited. I'm bad at consistency here.
94. do you prefer dialogue or description?
Dialogue is really fun for me to write. My favorite thing though is internal monologue? Perhaps a side effect of all the journaling.
99. was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little? or did it spring up when your older? or is it just a hobby?
I've been writing stories since I was a little kid and I've always loved the idea of just being a novelist or writer. But I am both pessimistic and pragmatic. I doubt I'd be happy if writing was my full-time job—making a living on this would be too much pressure. It's a lovely hobby and if I ever write something that other people are excited to read, I'll just be real chuffed about it.
Phew, we made it to the end!

This has been sitting in my drafts for ages, and I finally got around to finishing it. Many, many, many thanks to @forksgothic for being a phenomenal beta-reader/editor
Basically a continuation of my not-quite a rewrite/extra to canon of twilight where the pack isn't essentially on their own, but loved and supported by their parents and the elders of La Push. Wherein Billy has a somewhat difficult conversation with his younger sister about his nephew Colin

I want to dump all the characters in your ask box (I may do this anyway), but I’ll settle for Embry Call 👁👄👁
Oh go ahead and dump everyone lol. But, on to my best boy, Embry
Do I like them: Absolutely. I've always been most interested in the pack and their dynamics (like the rest of tumblr), but I was really drawn initially to the friendship between embry/quil/jacob, or what little of it we saw in the series
5 Good Qualities: (a lot of this is coming from those genius lists @blackpack did on little known tidbits from the books)
He's very observant, being the one to bring up to Jacob that Sam meets with the tribal council, among other things
He's quite loyal to his friends and family
and his mom- he's very aware of the gossip about her when she first moved to town, and what still lingers to some extent. I could go more into how I see their relationship, but for a good while, they were all the other had, and having to keep the secret from her really hurt
I also see him as quite smart, wanting to go to college to study history and/or folklore and is the one that fights the hardest against the pack having to drop out of school or whatever they end up doing
He's quite easygoing and doesn't seem to hold a grudge for long if at all
He puts up with Quil and Jacob and their shenanigans
3 Bad Qualities: (tbh this took a lot longer than I thought)
honestly, the fact he stayed with Sam's pack as long as he did- for as long as he and Jake have been friends I'm surprised it took him until after Bella had the baby to leave
he never tells his mom?? I am drifting far into my own headcanon territory, but if they're close, he should have let her know what was going on and that he's not in some rebellious phase- he had the okay from Sam to do so. Even if she isn't Quileute she does have the right to know at least some of what's going on
he makes too many bets for his own good- where is this money coming from??
Favorite Episode/Moment: This scene from Eclipse
Otp: Quil/Embry for sure because a) I’m a sucker for friends to lovers, but b) it’s a great replacement for the claire imprint situation which has always squicked me out
Brotp: Embry/Quil/Jacob obviously
Ot3: I don’t know if I have an OT3 for Embry? Maybe Embry/Quil/Jacob, if I was forced to choose, but it still doesn't feel right
notp: I'm not particularly fond of Embry/Bella, but really don't like Embry/any vampire-though I don't even know if those fics exist (like I know Rosalie/Leah exists and I’m baffled by it)
best quote: I had to flip through New Moon, and I had totally forgotten about this gem-
"Well, the wolf's out of the bag now." Embry sighed. "Way to go, Jake." (New Moon, pg 328, Family)
headcanon: he's a fancy dancer and has been going on the powwow trail with his mom quite literally his entire life (Tiffany is a somewhat well known fancy shawl dancer) and the entire pack+ adjacent crew saved up for ages and surprised him with new regalia after he grew out of his old set post-growth spurt

Dessert Ridge, Phoenix, Arizona
Since Phil Dwyer was in the picture, Mom wanted us all to have dinner together in the dining room, and we would usually have it in the living room, watching trash TV or listening to the radio.
I didn't like Phil much, but he made my mom happy. I only disliked him because he can be small-minded, which can rub off on my mom. It's a chameleon effect. Whoever she spends time with for more than a few hours tends to mirror their interests and beliefs.
No matter how much my mom has changed, one thing hasn't changed. She loves and adores me, and I know it. She must have seen me playing around with the grilled corn on my plate. We had just gotten back from the church service. I don't mind the church and all, but it's hateful in spirit. At least the church Phil goes to.
"You okay, sweetie?" Mom asked me to nudge my shoulder, and I forced a smile. I've been thinking hard about the engagement, like dinner the other week and the announcement when Phil was drafted to the Marlins.
"You haven't touched your empanadas all dinner... Bells, you aren't getting food shyness again, are you?" Mom asked me, confused. I used to fear eating in front of people. Phil always had a look of disgust when it came to me.
"No, Mama, I am okay," I mumbled. She was so happy, and I didn't want to change the mood. "I... have been thinking a lot about the move to Florida,"
"Are you worried about what happened to Adelaide?" She asked. Adelaide was one of my best friends before she moved to Tampa. She is a lesbian and isn't shy at all about it. She had gotten a girlfriend and was holding her hand in public and got hate-crimed, scolding hot coffee was thrown into her and her girlfriend's faces.
"I won't lie and say that doesn't scare me a little," I said, looking down.
It's been two months since I turned 18. I had my name legally changed from Beaufort to Bella. Mom wasn't thrilled about it, but when she got time to think, she helped me pick out some dresses... though I'm not a dress type of girl.
"I don't want to hurt your feelings..." I sighed, afraid as she could be quite emotional. She and Phil had been trying to get pregnant, so her hormones were all over the place.
"What is it, Bea-Bells," she said, concerned. She was still trying to get used to the name change. It was easier to call me Bells because that has been my nickname since I was a baby. My middle name is Bellamy, and they used to put bells on me because I would tend to run off.
"Well... I was thinking that you have had sole custody of me since I was 8... and that it might be nice if I went to stay with Charlie," I said, and she made a confused face, "He and I haven't gotten to see each other for a while, and he has been supportive with me coming out and all,"
"Are you sure Bea- er... I mean, Bella, you hate Forks and the cold, wet atmosphere," she looked at me concerned, "Is this your Father's idea? I am going to have to call him,"
"No, Mama, this is my idea, I promise... I miss him," I shrugged and looked down at my plate, "I do remember a few people from Forks, and I don't know anyone from Miami..." I combed some hair out of my face, "Plus, I hate humidity more than the cold. Remember when we went to the Bahamas on that one vacation?" I asked, and she laughed at the memory.
"Yeah, when we got off the plane in the Keys to go to the Cruise Ship Port, your hair poofed up in seconds," she covered her mouth, laughing and hugging me. "Well, Baby... if this is really what you want, I will call your father after dinner and work out everything before the High School starts over there."
"That's okay, Mama, I will call him," I hugged her back and started eating. I tend not to get hungry when there is a lot on my mind. I wasn't looking at him, but Phil looked ecstatic about this; he is one of those stepfathers who doesn't want any stepkids.
I didn't want to leave my mom to live with my Father, but I didn't want to move to Florida even more. What happened to Adelaide shook me up. She has 3rd-degree burns still healing from that incident.
No place was safe for people like me, but I would feel safe since my Father is the sheriff of Forks. I don't know the intolerance of Washington, but I do know that my Father has done his best to support me.
Charlie is an old soul who never left the small town he was raised in, so it surprised me when he was so supportive of me when I came out to him over a letter. He doesn't know how to do anything other than call me on his landline or send a letter, but he has been very supportive. It will be awkward because I haven't seen him in person for three years.
We both have a problem with social awkwardness, even with each other. Mama told me I got much of my personality from him and his looks. I get his complexion. The only thing I got from my mom was her caramel hair and green eyes.
When we finished dinner, Mom asked me if I wanted this before I could leave my room. Another reason I wanted to move is to get rid of all of her excuses for having a fun time. She was so young when she married me and didn't have a chance to have a good time.
I pulled my phone off the charger and called dad, "Hello?" Charlie asked when he answered the phone.
"Hey, Dad... did I wake you up?" I asked, forgetting that it was an hour ahead in Washington.
"Oh Bella, Hey Sweetie, this is a surprise... you don't normally call me this late," Charlie asked. I couldn't help but smile when he used the name I told him. "Not complaining, I just- er... is everything okay?"
"Yes, Dad, don't worry... your um, you know how Mom is getting married soon and moving to Florida,"
"Yes..." he said sadly, though I knew it wasn't because of the wedding. He may be sad at the thought of me moving farther away than Mom getting married again. He had been over her for a while now.
"Well, Um... I was just wondering if you wouldn't mind if I moved in with you and finished School in Forks?" I asked and then got a little nervous when he didn't answer immediately. I didn't think about him wanting to live with me now that I was out. Forks are quite a small town, though he doesn't seem the type to worry about image. I was freaking out from the lack of talking, "Um... You-"
"Of course, Bella... You can move in with me! I can buy you a plane ticket right now if you want!" he said excitedly. I hadn't heard him this excited for anything other than him watching sports.
"Well, I would like to spend a little more time with Mama before she moves, and I have to tell my friends bye... I can use the money I have saved for a truck and college to buy a plane ticket,"
"No-No Bella, you keep your money, and I will buy your ticket," he quickly said, sounding happy. It was a relief he was so happy. I know my Father loves me, but I know if I had lived alone for so long. "Just tell me the day, and I will have everything ready,"
   "The 23rd?"
"Yes, that is okay. School will start the next week... I will have your transcripts and registered at the high School soon,"
   "Love you, Charlie,"
"Love you too, Bells," he said. Please Comment, Vote, and add this story to your reading lists.

6, 17, and 23 for cadence of a legacy!
thanks anon! from the behind the scenes fic asks meme:
6. What do you need to write? Is there anything special you need to do/have to help your creative flow?
honestly the biggest thing for me is just being well rested and having the mental energy for writing, which sometimes feels like trying to get the stars to align. on work nights, I also have to be careful not to write past like 9 pm, because if I get too into a scene I won't be able to shut my brain off the rest of the night and then I'll mess up my sleep schedule. I do have a writing playlist for cadence and like background noise while I'm writing, but if I'm listening to music with lyrics, it can't be too up-tempo or I'll get distracted by it.
17. What was the hardest scene to write?
I've been complaining about the milk bar scene for this upcoming chapter a lot, especially because I ended doing a complete rewrite of the parts I had written when I was keeping it with chapter 3, but the pre-mask-reveal scenes of chapter 1 were far harder. Like the milk bar scene involves a lot of detail work, which is difficult but also something I know I can work through. but the first parts of chapter 1 had to go through so many overhauls to get in a place where I was okay with sharing it with others. It took me a while to get comfortable writing from Twilight's POV. I struggled a lot with the narrative voice, and I kept making small changes to the sequence of events that would have huge tonal implications and make later character actions not make sense. like—okay, Twilight knows something is following them very early on to up the tension, but then why doesn't he let the others know? now Time knows too, but then why is he okay with letting Twilight scout alone? Twilight thinks this thing is a threat, so why doesn't he confront it immediately? and so on and so forth.
23. Did you have a beta reader(s) for this fic? How did they help you during the writing process?
I actually do not have a beta at the moment. idk if that's obvious lol. I do writing/editing professionally and am confident about my ability to fix the surface-level stuff easily—typos, grammar, varying sentence structure, etc. Also I'm crazy and never stop editing ever. Where I could use beta reader feedback is the bigger-picture stuff that's harder for me to view objectively in my own work (characterization, scene structure and story flow, discerning whether sentences or scenes are actually bad/boring for a reader or if I just hate it because I wrote it). so if someone is interested in that hmu I don't bite lol.
