i love the idea of sy transmigrating into svsss and being hailed as a seer or some sort of demigod or something. even better if he’s a disciple. he lets one weird thing abt the plot slip, it comes to pass, and suddenly he’s elevated in the sect, yqy is consulting him on major happenings, and sqq becomes fiercely possessive because that’s his head disciple, tyvm. he’s not spectacularly talented in martial arts or swordsmanship, but he’s incredibly skilled with musical and spiritual cultivation

he’s poisoned by without a cure during the demon invasion when elder hammer tries his stupid sneak attack on lbh. after that, lbh becomes his unofficial assistant, because all sy really wants to do is hang out and vibe, but he’s too valuable to the sect to be put on bed rest and somebody’s gotta make sure he takes his meds and doesn’t collapse alone on a mission. and sqq treats sy’s poisoning as lbh’s fault (lbh does too, sadly), so he makes sy lbh’s responsibility

AU where Shen Jiu Qingqiu is forced to confront just how messed up his body and cultivation are

He realizes he's one bad qi deviation away from being a goner, and that qi deviation is basically inevitable in time

So he goes and snatches a suitable body with good spiritual veins. He wanted to put his demonic cultivation behind him, but this is an emergency, and in a matter of life and death, he ALWAYS will find a way to endure.

Except when he performs the ritual to transfer his own consciousness into the acceptable body candidate, something gets messed up, and he transfers someone else into the body instead. Another Shen, so the new inhabitant of the body says, who was dying of food poisoning until Shen Jiu performed the ritual.

This ridiculous Shen Yuan is saying that Shen Jiu saved his life, even though Shen Jiu TOLD him that he was a mistake! He is offering knowledge of the future as thanks, which is only more suspicious!!

But this horrible, spoiled little man does definitely hold a secret close to his chest of some kind, and Shen Qingqiu is determined to figure out what it is before being rid of Shen Yuan.

So Shen Jiu repeats the process of finding a suitable body for himself, repeats the transferal ritual, and--

ANOTHER FUCKING SHEN YUAN SHOWS UP IN THIS BODY TOO!!

And then the expected fatal qi deviation... it finally happens. But when it does, the Shen Yuans catch him early on and don't let him die. Shen Jiu isn't sure exactly what they do to him, but his mouth tastes like blood. They definitely transfered energy, alerted Mu Qingfang and Yue Qingyuan, and some unidentified third thing. The Little Beast is clinging to one of the Shen Yuans like a barnacle now, but that's hardly Shen Qingqiu's biggest concern at the moment.

He's alive. His qi is flowing. It hurts like a bitch, even now, but his spiritual pathways seem to be opening up again somehow???

LBH gets stuck in a timeloop at Jinlan City and he can't figure out why. Worse, no matter how much he prepares himself, he can't stop losing his temper with SQQ and feeding him his blood one way or another.

In the worst loop, he attacks SQQ and shreds his robes, seeing his back and the glowing green sigil there. Lbh retreats and finally remembers that in the abyss he saved a trapped spirit that offered him a wish and his wish was, of course, for shizun to be safe.

But in the next loop even though he avoids SQQ entirely, the Old Palace Master still has him brought to the Water Prison and the reset happens when SQQ agrees.

And here's the problem LBH thinks, he already entered HHP belt the timeloop started. He can't unring that bell and doesn't know what to do. He kills the OPM, but the sowers still accuse SQQ and the timeloop still restarts.

Finally he realizes Xin Mo is affecting his thoughts and actions, which is why he lashes out at SQQ.

He kills every sower himself, then returns to the abyss and destroys Xin Mo (MBJ bringing him back out)

Freed from the loop he tearfully returns to qjp in the middle of the night and begs sqq to believe him that he means to no harm and Xin Mo is destroyed (which shouldn't mean anything to SQQ but obviously DOES) and please let him just come home

AU where LQG (correctly) guesses that SJ has been replaced by an imposter because of just how OOC his first meeting with SY was. He doesn’t care that the possession tests all come back clear, he knows that something is up!

Just had the monumental realization that the biggest difference between Shen Jiu’s Shen Qingqiu and Shen Yuan’s Shen Qingqiu is that Shen Jiu is focused on his own image of himself while Shen Yuan is focused on everyone else’s image of himself.

Shen Jiu gets powerful because he’s tired of feeling powerless. Shen Yuan gets powerful because he wants to impress the disciples. Shen Jiu can’t have Luo Binghe upstage him because it makes him feel weak. Shen Yuan almost wants Luo Binghe to upstage him because he’s in love with Binghe he knows a good disciple will make him look good. Shen Jiu can’t forgive Yue Qingyuan for the ways he feels he’s wronged him and so treats him coldly. Shen Yuan treats him well because he doesn’t want to lose Yue Qingyuan’s favour and also doesn’t want to feel like he doesn’t deserve that favour.

Shen Jiu did a lot of things out of concern for his own pride, including sending Luo Binghe out to fight when he knows Binghe will probably lose.

Shen Yuan does a lot of things out of concern for the sect’s pride and his own image, including sending Binghe out to fight when he knows Binghe will win (and also he didn’t really have a choice, but still)

Shen Qingqiu went from caring about his self-image out of pride to caring about his self-image out of fear of embarrassment.

No wonder nobody believes that Shen Yuan is the same as Shen Jiu. No wonder they all think he must’ve lost his mind alongside his memories. Honestly, if someone I knew went through this dramatic character shift, I’d think he was possessed too.

Words: 14,066 Summary: After the Immortal Alliance Conference, Shen Qingqiu qi deviates. The deviation itself isn’t bad, but it allows Without-A-Cure to spread far further than it did originally, disabling Shen Qingqiu by a non-insignificant amount. So when Huan Hua calls for Shen Qingqiu’s imprisonment in Jinlan City, Without-A-Cure makes it very clear that Shen Qingqiu can not be held in the Water Prison away from the medical attention he needs these days. Instead, Shen Qingqiu is allowed to return to Qing Jing, provided he takes Luo Binghe back with him.

Luo Binghe goes back to Qing Jing Peak to be Shen Qingqiu's prison guard, where Shen Qingqiu realizes that his blackened protagonist is not so blackened after all. Very whumpy, filled with miscommunications, an all around quick and enjoyable read.

Oh no, Yqy left shen yuan 'in charge' of qiong ding peak as a show of trust (and a signal to everyone else that sy is basically his successor and they all better get used to it)

Shen Yuan on the other hand is convinced he's being tested and if he does well enough yqy will finally see him as his own person! (It's okay if he doesn't really shen yuan is fine with it it's just... He wants his big brother to love him even if it is greedy).

The demons invade and Shen Yuan is panicking because he FUCKED UP and now yqy is never ever going to trust him again. So he goes and does something stupid because he's trying to make up for it and if sqq gets hurt because of him his shizun will never look at him again.

AU where Shen Jiu takes one look at tiny prospective disciple Shen Yuan who looks so much like him but so fucking soft and immediately goes “I must destroy it” but when he tells Yue Qingyuan he wants the boy for Qing Jing Peak, YQY unexpectedly puts his foot down— reason being that he thinks the Shens must be long-lost brothers and he’s afraid that if SJ badly hurts SY and then finds out the truth he’ll regret it. So instead SY becomes a disciple of Qiong Ding Peak.

The thing is, though, that SY knows why YQY took him in. So even though he sees YQY as an older brother figure, he privately believes that the only reason the sect leader is affectionate towards him is that he’s (possibly) related to SJ. Meanwhile, YQY is going around the whole Twelve Peaks like “omg have you met my beloved new disciple?? he’s so cute and smart and he’ll probably inherit the sect some day.” SJ is immensely jealous and furious at himself for it.

Cut forward several years and SY is head disciple of Qiong Ding. SJ manages to corner him after a meeting of the peak lords and is harassing him about something or other until SY finally blindsides him by blurting out the “fact” that YQY still thinks they’re siblings and is really only soft on him for SJ’s sake…. SJ is so incredulous he nearly has a qi deviation.

Afterwards, he tries very hard not to let his feelings towards SY be affected by the most absurd bit of self deprecation he has heard in his entire life, but a week later he breaks and storms into YQY’s study like “ZHANGMEN-SHIXIONG ARE YOU AWARE THAT YOUR PRECIOUS FAVORITE DISCIPLE BELIEVES YOU DON’T ACTUALLY LIKE HIM???”

Headcanon that Shen Yuan was hotter than Shen Qingqiu, actually.

Like yeah SQQ being a cultivator gave him a boost to enough attributes + being in a stallion novel where everyone is either unrealistic hot or dog's butt ugly got the Shen Qingqiu body extra points, and he wasn't bad looking to begin with. Plus not being ill is vastly more important to the new Shen Qingqiu than those extra hotness points (Without a Cure notwithstanding). But part of the reason why he's kind of like, meh, at least I'm not hideous or anything, is because Shen Yuan's original body was a knock out.

I also like him as chronically ill, and, as many people know, beauty standards and sustained suffering are not as incompatible as they should be. Shen Yuan was conventionally attractive in part because conventional beauty standards seem to want everyone slowly dying all the time. But even setting that aside, the man had flawless bone structure, an appealing figure, captivating eyes, and the kind of voice that stopped people in their tracks.

All of which was a contributing factor to his antisocial lifestyle, actually. Despite the fact that Shen Yuan does enjoy company and requires a certain baseline of social enrichment for his enclosure, his internalized homophobia and closeting did not play well with overtures from interested parties (regardless of gender). The only way to minimize the odds of him being asked out on dates was to essentially become a shut-in, especially since even Shen Yuan can only make so many excuses before he himself starts to notice that he's going to a lot of effort to avoid specifically that avenue of socialization. Far better to just remove himself from any risk of it, and then vocally lament that oh no he's just too much of a nerd to get anywhere with women!

Anyway this largely doesn't matter much outside of sheer comedy potential for any situation where SY gets his old body/life back. Like imagine a reveal scenario where the System is going to transport them back to their old lives.

For Scum Villain fandom specifically I have to say that the deciding factor in whether I adopt a headcanon or not is whether I think it's funny.

Do I think Shen Yuan was ill in his first life? Yes, because I think it's extremely funny if he was ill in his first life, got a brand new life with superpowers (cultivation) and boosted health, and then immediately got slapped with another fucking chronic illness (Without-A-Cure.) I think that is the funniest sequence of events and thus the correct one.

Do I think that Shen Yuan was on the very low end of his twenties, barely college-age, when he transmigrated? Yes, because I think it's hilarious if the rest of the Peak Lords have unknowingly been "shixiong"ing a fuckin sophmore

And lastly, do I think that Shen Jiu never went to the brothels for sex and ultimately died a virgin? Yes, because that sets the stage for SY!SQQ to later trip over some kind of virginity-detecting critter or plant (you KNOW the PIDW setting has to have these somewhere, c'mon), not even knowing that it's something he has to think about avoiding, and whoops getting outed as a virgin in front of the entire cultivation world, and that would be hilarious

I make no secret of this, but as Prim is my favorite author and very cool friend, I will HAPPILY recommend these first;

Masochism is probably THE qijiu fic of all time, absolutely adore it. It's set in their disciple era, with YQY just grabbing at whatever scraps he can even as SQQ tries to push the boundaries and see what will make him BREAK. So, so good. Happy ending!

Tarnished Gold is my favorite original Binghe fic, and I hope more people give it a chance. I think the summary scare some but it's GREAT! I love it! Binghe's thought process, the way someone perceives SY as GYX from an outside perspective, and omg LPM is such a great character in it...

of course I recommend basically everything Prim writes.

(Shen Yuan Voice) It's not gay if- by Nachtofthedead is porn. Just straight up modern time BingYuan porn. It is filthy and great and *thumbs up* love it. Bingge decides to play along with SY's delulu thoughts on gayness and everyone are happy.

The Many Trials and Tribulations of Ming Fan by The Feels Whale (miscellea) is great and I think often overlooked. A oneshot from MF's point of view on how to handle SQQ's wife beam, deeply funny to me. They also wrote-

Dust and Broken Grains , which is basically "Binghe discovers early that Crying Works" and it becomes a fix-it fic. but there's more to it than that!!! Love it a lot.

Celestial Afterglow by elanor_pam is just. So good. SO GOOD. It's hilarious, it uses the System in a way few fics ever does and it has me cackling every time I read it.

What Is Seen by CaveteDracones is a fix-it with a side of whump fic, where SQQ's trial at HHP goes VERY differently. Truth serum! Torture! System Reveal! Yay!

Dual Cultivate or Date by acernor is THE BingLiuShen fic out there. Adore it. I'm sure many have already appreciated it, but it doesn't hurt to remind others that it exists!

A Child Once by Tossawary is a very, very good BingQiu and MoShang fic, and I honestly love not only BingQiu being forced to play parents, but also the MobeiBing friendship? Great, amazing. All the relationships in this is great, and I know most have heard of Tossawary but if you haven't given this specific fic a chance you SHOULD.

easy fix by airplanelanding (TheCourtSorcerer) is a smutty cumplane oneshot, where they are friends with benefits (approved by their husbands) for whenever said husbands are unavailable for Dual Cultivation Cure. This fic just really captures the snark and is also *chefs kiss*

with the tail of the snake by tciddaemina is a very, very good monsterfucker!SQQ fic where Binghe became a dragon in the abyss. I LOVE IT. It's a WIP, but *clenches fist* it's just so good. Soft and gooey and so HHHH yes good. I would probably put all their svsss fics in here but I am running out of time!!

come all ye mighty is a Solo Leveling fic! It's Igris/Jinwoo, from Igris' pov, and I love the world building in it. As they say in the author's notes, it's a little bit of an au since it doesn't follow the original plot of the comic, but I reread this so, so often. 10/10, if you like solo leveling at all please give it a go I BEG OF YOU.

I think since this is grown demon lord binghe instead of young bingmei, he'd be able to see the attack coming and have plenty of time to react to shen yuan throwing himself in front of him. Then when shen yuan is doubled over and poisoned binghe is just kind of stunned because seriously??? How can his student care about him enough be stupid enough to do that??? Who does he think he is, thinking his shizun needs a disciple to protect him??? He just kind of stands there in shock for a second, which everyone mistakes as him not seeing the attack coming.

He grills shen yuan on why he would sacrifice his own cultivation to protect Binghe, but shen Yuan just thinks binghe is mad that his head disciple is weaker now and hangs his head and apologizes. Binghe is even more baffled because WHAT DOES HE MEAN SORRY FOR SAVING YOU??

Of course, Binghe is very normal about it at all

Binghe, ignoring her and basically talking to himself: I've banned him from flying his sword because if Without a Cure acts up while he's in the air that could be dangerous and now he has to step onto my sword hold onto me everytime we go somewhere-

AU where Xin Mo has its own ideas about how the world should work. A heavenly demon is nice, yes, but this is the creator god!

So *hand wave* when SQH is going to pull a sword out of the wash in Wan Jian peak, it takes over the sword spirit in SQH's sword.

Cue him having an extremely temperamental, very hungry sword. It didn't leave its own sword body, it's just split between the two so SQH can get away with just taking it on walkies occasionally (what he calls it)

The prev generation of peak lords are confused/intrigued, but after much testing it doesn't really seem malicious and how could it be, given its creation on Wan Jian?

By the time of SQQ's 'fatal' qi deviation, things are decidedly tilted.

Bc of Xin Mo's aggression, during the mission in disciple era, SQH was far more active and things went just differently enough that LQG saw SQQ save his life and got super weird about owing him a life debt.

He isn't quite post-wife beam levels of leaving dead beasts around, but they have enough of a antagofriendship that they 'spar' shortly before the system's planned replacement and end up in mutual deviation goodness.

(however, QC peak disciples have spies on BZ and QJ so they know when these happen and are always on hand)

So when the big transmigration day comes, the deviation isn't enough to remove his soul and the system, which has been buggy for years, throws a return to childhood effect into the deviation and just plants sy in a second child sqq body. This day is already weird enough no one will question it too much.

The best the peak lords can come up with sqq!y is an alternate version of sqq!j who was drawn in via the high spiritual concentration on CQM and the site and distortion of sqq!J's qi during the deviation

(real answer: spiritual-spacial instability on the peaks thanks to Xin Mo lite. MBJ has noticed something's off but SQH doesn't use his sword around him so he assumes some dumbass cultivator is messing with things they're not supposed to and don't understand and it's a big not his problem)

Anyway, the peak lords love sqq!y and are like "sect leader we almost forgive you for your treatment of sqq up to this point, knowing he has the potential to be this"

Once adults again, SQQ!J proceeds to immediately dump everything he doesn't like on SY, including lqg's life debt.

Cue airplane and SY doing the skinner mission together (bc Xin Mo needs walkies), SQQ!Y still gets captured but the system is too unstable at this point to even save LBH and instead gives cucumber and airplane huge ominous warnings, so SQH crashes the bondage lite scene, says wtf at naked sqq!y and saves the day

Cue transmigrator reveal (to each other).
