The fact that “alright cowboy, go get ‘em” were almost Eddie’s last words to Buck makes me feel insane

the thing that really kills me about the Buck-Eddie-Chris dynamic is that it's not just that Buck is ALWAYS going to be there for them. It's that Eddie KNOWS that. It's that Eddie EXPECTS that. It's that he's had that expectation since before the tsunami.
He knows Buck loves them. He knows he loves Chris. He knows that Chris is and never has been a burden to Buck. He dropped his eight-year-old son off at his depressed best friend's apartment and said BYE HAVE FUN. like. that wasn't a request.
And EVERY time since we've seen Eddie entrust Christopher to Buck, it's never framed as a request. It's an expectation. It's a fact. It's an intrinsic truth he has never questioned. The will is obviously the most glaring example but the expectation is there EVERY time. it's in the way in 5x13 he apologizes TO Buck for scaring Chris. It's in s6 when Eddie asks Buck if Christopher is telling Buck his secrets, fully expecting that if there's something HE doesn't know about his son, Buck will. it's during the lightning strike when Chris demands to go see Buck and Eddie capitulates, because Chris's relationship with Buck is not something he can or ever will stand between. it's in the way in 7x01 Eddie says "Nothing. Not yet. I was kinda hoping...you would!" sounds almosttttt like a request but the way he says it very much isn't. It's "i do not know how to handle this so I am handing it off to you. BYE HAVE FUN."
Buck is not Christopher's dad. But he IS Eddie's coparent. That's pretty indisputable at this point. He treats him like one in almost every way. He doesn't just KNOW Buck will be there for Chris even when Eddie can't. he EXPECTS it.
And the thing is, Chris expects it, too!!!!! He called Buck in s5. He sat down with Buck and opened up about his complicated feelings about his mom in 7x01. Buck has been the most stable adult figure in Chris's life other than his dad for almost SEVEN years at this point.
The other thing is, I don't think Buck even realizes how important it is that they have that expectation. that they're ABLE to rely on him and trust him so intrinsically. that it's never been a question for either of them that Buck is supposed to be with them. HE knows he'll always be there for them, no matter what, no questions asked. ("I'm here, what can i do?") but I don't think he understands how monumental it is that Chris and Eddie both know that, too.

One day when i have time to deal with inevitable backlash I will write a post about how actually Taylor Kelly is one of the most compelling minor characters on 911 with a heartbreaking backstory that fully explains (but doesn’t excuse) why she does the things she does and ALSO that i think she & Lucy Donato should be in lesbians together

You know what, actually?
It is GOOD that they didn't take Buck off the hamster wheel for his first queer relationship.
To do so would have implied that the only thing he was missing was his sexuality, and not only was that clearly never the story they were telling with him, but also I don't actually think it would be great representation to imply that figuring out your sexuality is the thing that will solve all your deep-seated self worth and abandonment issues.

This has most definitely been said before, but we were robbed of the core four quarantining on-screen together at Buck’s place. ROBBED I say

Guys can we please talk about how HUGE buck being bisexual is?
We have more people watching the show because a man was made bi and he hits NONE of the gay stereotypes.
People are doing it because this is so so so rare!!
People are doing it out of SPITE for the homophobic fans!!
People are watching the first season and are in SHOCK because oh?? There’s a lesbian black couple?? With a CHILD??? Oh there’s a gay 911 operator???
Guys it’s just
So many people are discovering this amazing beautiful show and the queer characters and now THEY get to see themselves as well!! THEY get to experience this joy with us!!
Because 911 is so much more than Evan Buckley. It’s so much more than Hen and Karen and Josh. It’s so much more because of them. It’s so much more because we have such a diverse and amazing cast. It’s so much more because they talk about topics of abuse, ptsd, family trauma (for SEVERAL characters), therapy for MEN, the grief of losing a partner or a parent or a child. It’s fully a found family show!!
And it’s so beautiful to see people hear about this show and watch it and feel seen. That Evan Buckley being bisexual opened a door for so many people that never knew it was ever there.

can we talk about how the eddie scene with the victim's dad in the episode involved a dad that had been pulling away from his relationship with his son because of homophobic views.... like they could have made that about son many issues and yet... i truly think this is our first seed and i am tearing up just thinking about it, y'all.
he is getting out!!!!!!!!!!

you know what gets to me? it's that, for all the talk of—what was it, being excited to have a love interest they could more easily incorporate into the main firefighting stories, compared to the girls met on calls? they really didn't.
and last season we thought that was because they didn't know if they were keeping tommy through the end of the season, that they were waiting on reactions to the initial coming out arc, that they squeezed in a quick reference and added in a small scene once they knew. but this season all our speculation about how tommy might be included in the main action was wrong. his appearances were all with buck and about his relationship to buck. they had time to incorporate him into the plot, and they chose not to.
for all the importance his history had to us, tommy-the-love-interest could have been a friend eddie made at, idk, a VA group therapy session or something, and you would only have to change, like, three things to make it work. him being a firefighter, him being ex-118, him being tommy kinard, was only truly relevant in 7.03.
and that makes me sad. ppl were excited about tommy both as a gay LI for buck and as a LI for buck who could easily be included in the larger story, who could easily fit into this show's non-romantic narratives, who could fit into the found family of the 118.
and they just… didn't bother.

i think the crux of eddie and helenas relationship is that helena wanted to be a boy mom so bad but her one boy is just kinda strange and gay and even tho he tries so hard to be good at being a man it never totally works out for him in adulthood so now helenas backup plan is to be a boy grandma but her stupid gay son wont even let her do that. meanwhile eddie doesn’t know he’s gay he just knows he doesn’t live up to his moms expectations.

Ok ok ok I despise Gerard and wish him nothing but the worst, but here's all the GOLDEN scenarios we could get from this moving forward:
- Gerard sees how close Buck and Eddie are and begins to make jokes, pissing one of them off (let's be real it'll probably be Eddie) and then they get protective
- Gerard finds out Buck and Tommy are together and gives him shit for it and won't let it go, pissing off everyone but especially Eddie and Tommy
- Continuing the last one, Tommy finds out what Gerard is doing and charges into the fire house to scream at him because he can't stand to see Buck be broken down and berated the way he was. We heard more in this episode about how Gerard treated Tommy and knowing that Buck has to be on the receiving end this time sets him off and he won't allow it (please god give me protective Tommy I BEG)
- Gerard sees Buck and Tommy together and makes a homophobic comment or something along the lines of "I always knew you were gay, kinard" (but make it even more cruel and vicious) that sets Buck off and he starts berating Gerard for everything he ever did to Tommy
- Gerard openly bashes Hen and Buck for their sexuality and so for Pride Month, they decorate the station in rainbow colors and even when Gerard takes them down, they come in early everyday to put them back up, just to piss him off
- Eddie comforting Buck when/if Gerard makes his life hell (the buddie content we could get from this is sending me into cardiac arrest like bobby)
- DOUBLE BONUS POINTS if Tommy and Eddie come to Buck's defense

thinking about queerplatonic buddie and how it's literally just their canon relationship they just don't use that word for it
like they're out here being "best friends" but they're literally co-parenting, Buck went to Eddie when he was worn out from people checking up on him and babysitting him all day, Eddie told Buck about the whole Shannon doppelganger situation without him even having to pry at all
they're always there for each other, they just show up at eachother's houses (like Eddie full on showing up at Buck's appartment and letting himself and Christopher in while Buck was sleeping why tf aren't we talking about this more), they act like a married couple without actually being romantic, they undeniably love each other
and yeah Buck is only Christopher's legal guardian if Eddie dies, but he's already his second dad idc
the three of them are a family, Eddie and Buck have passed beyond friendship to something much deeper, and all that undeniable love and care and devotion that makes so many people ship them romantically is already there. They don't need to be married or dating each other to be a family, to love each other or be each other's home
no shade to the romantic buddie shippers /gen, but i personally love their relationship as it is without romance
they're best friends but also a family but not romantic but also something much more than just friends and it's a perfect example of a queerplatonic relationship and the nuances and depth of love and family and I've honestly never seen that in media ever and it's so special to me
