love how you put thought into this whole situation I was worried about that author who got so much hate and at some point I started questioning my own morals cause i read that fic before the whole drama blew up and found nothing particularly wrong with it and I was like "am i part of the problem?" 😭 Ngl ruined my whole day. The death threats were just unnecessary tbh especially over a fictional character...and don't get me started over the yan/ dark fics I have seen so many of those where reader is a sex slave or is forced to be one to pay off their family's debt or something and i didn't see these people yapping and complaining about those...and tbh if they're offended over a harmless fanfic on a long dead website maybe they should go touch some grass and breathe fresh air cause these people are way too chronically online.. (wonder if they've seen fics on AO3)

And dw i could never hate my boy aventurine! He's an interesting character with a good character design i just feel awkward reading his fanfics now but I'll get over it eventually!

Honestly, same. I started thinking if I was in the wrong for thinking that nothing was wrong about the fic when I also read it before the whole situation had gone down. But after pondering about it, I questioned myself "Is it really wrong to want to save slave aventurine? Does that make me self-righteous and a white-knight? Does that make me a person who romanticizes that?" The answer is simply no.

It was never wrong to begin with when we had good intentions in mind, when reading that fic we never even had malicious thoughts about it when reader bought aventurine to save him and be a better owner/person to him, reader just wanted to give him a better life. It just annoys and angers me how people just assume we're white-knighting when the desire to save someone is just basic human decency and sympathy.

So no anon, you weren't a problem because I also think that there was nothing wrong with that fic at all.

(Also, you're so real for that Jing Yuan one!!! He was literally the first man I simped for before Aventurine 😫)

I love singNsong again reminding people in Side Story that Dokja wanted other people to read TWSA (he wrote reviews and comments! It was his first wish), and he only stopped bothering because people harassed him for it. He didn't gate-keep the story. When he's avoiding talking to Sangah about it at the beginning of ORV, it's because he knows what happens when he tells people about the story, not because he's gate-keeping it from her. He notes he's not proud of his hobby (likely because he's been bullied all through his life, including for reading the thing he loves): he finds it embarrassing to talk about, and better respects her studying Spanish in her free time (learning another language is a generally accepted thing in society). He assumes she won't care or will look at him funny (or worse) for when she learns about the novel he's into.

Basically anyone writing "let's gatekeep ORV" posts because of the anime announcement or because they dislike the manhwa or some other weirdness, y'all are the villains in the scenario.

The literal climax of the story is about sharing ORV with as many people as possible. What story were y'all reading?

Babysitter/Bodyguard AU

MCs: ZhongXiao & Qiqi

Zhongli who is at war with many other regions, including the one where Xiao is enslaved in, and who also has a child who is Qiqi. Xiao who runs into her in his master's land and realizes that oh shit, she's from Morax's land and she cannot be here!! Qiqi, of course, is like not worried because in her eyes her dad is very powerful and will always keep her safe, not realizing that she's not in her dad's land meaning he doesn't have any special powers there and she is in a lot of danger should anyone find out who she is. Xiao doesn't know who is her dad and doesn't give her the chance to explain and tries to get her to leave. Qiqi is still trying to collect plants for medicine and refuses to leave because there is a lot of plants there and she still thinks that she's home. She climbs up a mountain and Xiao is immediately noping out, but rushes back to save her when she's about to fall. After all, it's not like his master ordered him to not save the child and it's not like he's disobeying and she doesn't have to know he's technically helping the enemy

He saves her and gathers all the plants she wanted and gave her a quick blessing to protect her and help her travel faster into her land undetected and unharmed. It works really well to the point where it's still active by the time she arrives home and sees her family freaking out that she was missing for so long. She doesn't understand what the big deal was and just said that she made a nice new friend, but she never actually got his name. Skip forward where Qiqi constantly goes over to try and find her new friend and Xiao is like no, no, no, leave right now, but can't bring himself to be mean about it.

A party with all neighboring kingdoms/nations invited is held including his lady who is quite antagonistic about it. They will go but really it's more so an excuse for her to observe Morax's palace and look for any weak points. Of course, she nor any of her people could attack without starting a war, but it was better to have information just in case. While they're in a foreign kingdom/nation they would have to listen to that ruler's orders as a sign of respect but they needn't try to hard, just enough to get others off their case. Xiao immediately spots Qiqi from across the room and realized who she is. She's the reason why the party was thrown in the first place. The birthday party of the little lady of liyue. A party that went south when someone tried to take advantage of the situation. It's quickly resolved, but Morax notices how is daughter clinged onto one of his foes when she was scared. Xiao's master also notices it and considers this new information carefully.

The child seeks him out on other special occasions. He rebuffs each attempt. Acknowledging her and the little friendship they created would be equivalent to handing his master the spear to strike directly at Morax's heart and ending his reign. She was just a child after all. Easy to manipulate and easy to please. So he says harsh words with cold eyes. He says them even as his heart begins to hurt and says them even as she looks at him with tears in her eyes and says them when her family looks at him with such hatred for hurting her.

Later on, when his master goes against Morax, he cant bring himself to watch Qiqi get killed and takes a fatal blow meant for her. It's a stupid move, so stupid that everyone stops fighting for a second to process it. He passes out from the pain still holding her in his arms. When he is interrogated he lies. He lies because there's no point in trying to get out of this live. He just wants it all to end already. Eventually, Morax wins the battle against Xiao's master and Xiao is set to be executed, but Qiqi asks to talk to him privately first. She tries to interrogate him because she doesn't understnd why he's so nice one second then so mean the next. He can't hide the truth from her and explains as best he can so as to not leave her wondering after his death. Though he does not notice her father listening in on their conversation.

A few weeks later and it is decided that his punishment is to guard the little lady and the king after much persuading from her and a lot of thinking from her father. From there other stuff happens and Xiao is really confused as to why the fuck he's still alive and why they want him of all people to protect some of the most important people in their nation. Cue shenanigans and Qiqi using her big brain to get them together so she can have her perfect happy family.

I'm just about finished with My Little Inferno, and the ML (the LI) is so pathetic omfg. I feel like I'm reading Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudsai due to the main leads both being fucking losers (the FL in Dame na is in a dead end relationship and is practically a sugar mommy who ends up in debt to support her BF which almost leads her to being sold into prostitution. Her attitude isn't great either). Like if I could get a hot guy to fall head over heels in love with me even after he witnesses me puking, pissing, and crying myself out of fear and getting hassled by old bullies (if only I were a BL protag bc he'd think I'm cute), I would think something is wrong with him and that I probably made it in life. The ML isn't particularly... useful. The only thing he has going for him is being cute and short, and being needy towards the LI. The LI makes for a good house husband.

Based on the cover art for the manga, I would've thought it was really dark (like Killing Stalking or Blind play) but its mostly just about cyber crime and embezzlement and sorta the yakuza (mostly mentioned, briefly seen). To an extent, this series sorta reminded me of Semantic Error, but only because of the computer stuff though. Otherwise, I sorta like the slice of life aspects. I think the crime stuff is sorta underbaked. I wish there was more risk or something to make things tense bc the only thing was ML's mom getting get info stolen and getting $300k in debt.

i'm reading whale star rn, and it's so fascinating how they've used the little mermaid as a foundation to explore a story set during the korean independence struggle against japan! it's really hard to do a re-telling that feels interesting and authentic and engaging in a climate where so many stories use the format of re-telling as a crutch and don't examine it with the depth it deserves. obviously, i'm still super early into the series so i don't know what direction they're going to be taking this metaphor in (and whether i'll vibe with it), but i'm really enjoying it so far and i think the artwork is gorgeous. there is a central romance, i think? (and possibly a secondary one too), but i like how it's only a part of a larger story that seems to primarily be historical fiction

drayton and carmine feel like they'd be perfect for a cheesy fake marriage, "need to get married for my dying grandparents' sake" storyline because consider this:

assuming we're nice and we let kieran get the girl before he graduates BBA, that means he's likely married by then. probably has a kid too. naturally, if carmine is single, that'd be worrisome for said grandparent, particularly if one of them is already dead, because there's "no one to take care of her"

so maybe it's kieran's kid's birthday. she's already flirted argued with drayton, and was only stopped because little ruby/hokuto told them to stop fighting. so when the attention turns to her, she blurts out that she's dating drayton

he's like "for sure, nothing suspicious here."

and so they have to pretend they don't have feelings for each other still, even though they never officially dated
