This is going to be a long rant, but I feel more comfortable venting here than on twitter so.

I’m sorry, but I can’t stand a lot of Ch*rlastor fans. I seen one of them try to say it wouldn’t make sense for Chaggie to be endgame, because Charlie is bi and because she and Vaggie have been together for a long time. It made me so confused because how are either of those two things reasons why Charlie shouldn’t end the series with Vaggie? Her long term girlfriend that she’s in love with? And saying because she’s bi, it’d be weird for her to end dating a girl is so ????

It’s been established that Charlie is bisexual, that she’s attracted to men, and may even have had a boyfriend before dating Vaggie. They don’t have to show her dating a man, in the present, for her to be bisexual. And being bisexual doesn’t mean she has to be with a man, if she doesn’t want to. She loves Vaggie. She has never, and will never, be attracted to Alastor.

I’m tired of people constantly putting Chaggie down to praise their ship, when they could praise them without even bringing up chaggie or Vaggie. Saying she is a horrible girlfriend, that she’s not supportive enough, that she doesn’t care about Charlie. People even give Alastor Vaggie’s traits and say he “encourages” Charlie and cares about her dreams when he… does none of that. He uses her and only wants her for her powers. He doesn’t care about the hotel, and only helps because he wants to see it fail. He manipulates her and does not care about her like Vaggie does. It’s fine for fanon, but in canon he does nothing like that.

Vaggie cares so deeply for Charlie, because she is probably the first person who has ever shown Vaggie true kindness and love. They spent awhile being friends, but eventually dated and have such a strong relationship. They’re business partners, and best friends, along with being a couple. That’s one of the best types of relationships. Where you’re not just each other’s partner, but also best friend. Sure, they don’t have many too overly romantic scenes, but that’s just how their relationship is. They’ve been dating each other for years, and are adults. They probably went through their honeymoon phase, but now they’re so close that they don’t need to be overly romantic to show that they’re dating. Their scenes are perfect to show a close relationship.

But when they do have their big romantic scenes, they’re always the most beautifully animated. Like the scene of them first meeting. How Charlie didn’t even hesitate to help her, and when Vaggie finally seen there’s someone out there who does care. It was a touching moment for them.

I’ll never get over how beautiful their duet is. Not only the song, or context, but how it was animated. Their smiles, the way Vaggie was the one to sing first, when she is isn’t really a fan of singing but she knows how much Charlie loves it. The KISS. It was a perfect song, to show just how deep their feelings are for each other. And it made me bawl, when I realized it was a reprise of more than anything. Showing that Lucifer and Vaggie are the people Charlie loves more than anything.

I don’t see why people are judging them so quickly, when we’ve only seen eight episodes that were filled more with action and story than anything romantic. We’re getting more of their story in season two, even a look into their ~sexy lives~, and probably even more individual scenes of Charlie and Vaggie for their character. You don’t have to like them, but it really annoys me when I see people putting them down just to praise a mlw ship. :/ again, you can praise your ship, without having to attack Chaggie. And if you’re not able to do that, and can only bring up the positives of Ch*rlastor by picking apart chaggie as a couple, then maybe your ship just isn’t that great. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Boyfriend, BROfriend

Asher sulked as he laid back on the couch, too upset to notice the television was displaying static. His girlfriend had just dumped him that morning and his best friend Thorn was completely MIA. He'd gone to investigate the local sports legends, the "Gold Troopers" or something like that. Thorn often lived up to his name, being a thorn in Asher's side, but he still wanted his support in these rough times. Asher had invited him over to rant about chicks like they usually did after a breakup but he hadn't even read the damn message. He'd already drunk several cans of cheap beer waiting for the guy and was starting to feel the buzz.

Asher was pulled out of his buzzed state (well, slightly at least) with a knock on his door. "Finally," he thought, "took the asshole long enough to get here." He threw himself off the couch and walked over to the front door.

Opening it, Asher could tell something was a bit off. Thorn's usual wild and spiky hair was tamed, giving him a sporty look.

"What's with the hair, man? Where's your wild side?"

Thorn let out a little laugh. "Oh, don't worry about that, bro. I still have my wild side. Just trying something new."

Asher looked Thorn up and down. Nothing else seemed off about him. Besides maybe him saying "bro." He still had that characteristic smirk on his face, and the leather jacket on him screamed "punk." He was too drunk for this.

"If you say so, man. Get in here so we can gripe about Maya."

"Thanks, bro. I got just the thing for you actually." He held up his hand, holding a golden DVD. "One of my new bros gave me something to help you get over your ex."

Asher looked at him suspiciously, his hands in his jean pockets. "What's a movie gonna do for me?"

"Trust me, bro. He showed it to me when I met him and it's almost life-changing in a way."

"If you say so. Can you put it in? I'm a bit drunk."

"Sure thing bro."

Thorn put the disc into the player, turning the TV off the static. In its place was a shiny golden spiral, drawing Asher in instantly. The gold swirled in his eyes, mixed with a bit of white and brown. Images of naked women appeared in the background behind it.

Asher lost himself in the spiral, staring at it mindlessly. His mind went completely blank. All he could do was stare at the spiral. Stare, and obey.

Thorn removed his leather jacket, revealing a shiny golden soccer jersey underneath with "Trey" on the back. He smirked looking at Ashter's blank stare. "That's it bro, just stare at the pretty spiral. You'll be a true bro soon."

Ashtor reached down into his jeans and started stroking, just as the spiral commanded him to. As he continued, his clothes started changing. His black t-shirt glowed gold, transforming into a shiny gold soccer jersey with his true name on the back. His jeans turned into a set of golden shorts, giving him more room to stroke as he pulled them down further. His wild and crazy hair got tapered down into a classy, sporty look that matched Trey's.

Ashton's mind was being rewritten at the same time, his old self going into his balls with every stroke. His name change was solidified first, the first piece of his new identity. The images of women changed into men stroking themselves just like he was, but he couldn't bring himself to care. He found himself admiring their forms and their strokes, eyeing the big packages. Thoughts of being with women and loving their bodies head to toe vanished completely. Only men would satisfy him now.

Trey leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Ashton could feel himself blush as he continued stroking. Memories of being with Trey as boyfriends, serving the Golden Army together both on and off the field. They sure knew how to party together in the locker room...

"Cum for me, babe"

The spiral finally ended as Ashton came, spurting his old self out onto the floor in front of him. Trey would be sure to clean that up later.

"Come on babe. We have practice in 30 minutes!"

Ashton looked up at his boyfriend and smiled. "Sure thing babe. Let's get going. But first..." He walked over, placing a hand on his shoulder and smiling a sinister smile.

"How about a quick round 2?"

So I rendered out the locs this time and WOO BOY, those are time-consuming. So I decided to give him freckles instead of vitiligo. I also returned his eyes to grey, which pop super well.

Gave him a gold tooth, figured he's been in enough fights to have lost a tooth in the process. He's mixed, with his father was not a native of Sunset Savanna and ditched after his mother became pregnant.

He's also a Business major and wants to open a bakery eventually, named after his grandmother.

So I did my curl studies! YIPPEE!! I hit Mandisa with kinda a full redesign, though their colour palette stayed basically the same.

Unique Magic - "Barking Command": Mandisa's voice, for her next sentence, is able to be heard, regardless of physical barriers.

She's actually a Culinary major, as she comes from a similar background as Ruggie and wishes to provide healthy food to the slums.

Their birthday is March 26th (Aries) and they're in the Track and Field Club.

My boyyyyyyyyyyy I swear I stim every single time I see him! He’s SOOOOOOO beautiful! There’s this one picture where the light hits his eyes JUST right, and it just glows like golden honey!!

Not only that but he has a lil dimple when he smiles/smirks and it’s so cuteeeeeee! I love it when he smiles!!!!! His lips are so kissable as well and he makes this weird lil snarl face that makes them even MORE kissable! AND THEN HE SOMETIMES PUTS ON LIPSTICK RAHHHH I WANNA SMOTHER HIM IN AFFECTION!!! HE DESERVES IT!!!!!

Virgil tries to be serious since he’s embodiment of anxiety, but there are just some moments where he’s being silly or even just shows a liiiiiiiiiiittle crack to his tough exterior, Thomas moments absolutely melt my heart, along with the rest of me.

Omg, not only does he have good makeup design, but HE HAS GOOD FASHION?! WHAT?! EXCUSE ME?! All of his outfits are just AMAZING! But his classic purple jacket is my favorite because 1. It’s very warm and comfy 2. THE STITCHINGS?! He has such a gothic/grunge aesthetic and I dig that so muchhh!

Also WHEN WAS HE A THEATER KID?! NOT ONLY THAT BUT HE DOES STAGE CREW!!! From my irl experience Stage crew kids are the BEST! Literally my irl bestie is in stage crew so I love that funny lil coincidence and gives him some bonus points<3

He is soooooooooo asexual core it’s not even funny, and that makes me love him even more. As a fellow sex repulsed asexual, it gets hard to find characters who aren’t oversexualized, but here he is. It’s such a huge weight off my back and I don’t have to worry if I’m enough for him as much as I normally would.

But I love most of all how Virgil isn’t a pure cinnamon roll, but he’s not monster evil level either. He’s been forced to play the role of the bad guy to protect his owner, even at the cost of respect for his friends. This led him to be ruder and more problematic, but not necessarily “bad.” Over the course of time, he found new ways to help that are less overwhelming for both him and his owner, and in result, his friends warm up to him and give him the love he needed. A perfect example that the flaws in a person is a part of who they are and a symbol that your past doesn’t define you. I’m so proud of all the progress he’s went through and even though he still has more progress ahead of him, his friends and I will encourage him and support him during every step.

He’s honestly helped me through so much. It’s pretty funny that me, a person struggling with social anxiety, would date the literal EMBODIMENT of anxiety. But the truth is, I love him so so much and we’re both working on our anxiety. Together.

Random little headcanons because I haven’t done one of these in a while;

Max got diagnosed with autism after she moved and just never remembers that Chloe doesn’t know because she regularly forgets the people closest to her don’t know Big Facts about her. Thus she forgets to tell Chloe she’s autistic and her parents that’s she’s bisexual.

Chloe would probably guess the above but most of the classic signs of autism she just attributes to Max being Max. She’s known her for so long that it’s all normal to her.

Chloe is the better cook, mostly because she’s cooked more. She’s really good at grilling because she used to do it at the junkyard to avoid going home.

Max forgets to eat a LOT. If she’s focused enough she just doesn’t feel hunger. Most of her actually eating something depends on either quick snacks or having a routine. She kinda hates cooking because it’s so much work for so little gain — if left alone she’ll just eat like five snacks and call it a meal. Accidentally makes her friends think she has an eating disorder during college because of it until Chloe puts like ten reminders on her phone to at least eat a meal bar or something.

That being said; Max loves chocolate and has a lot of strong opinions about different brands.

Chloe was/is a horse girl. She LOVED Spirit and if she’s drunk enough she’ll do a ten to twenty minute rant about how it’s beautiful and how much she hates the Netflix show.

To the surprise of many, Max is the one to deal with spiders. Chloe fucking hates them but while Max doesn’t either, she can’t kill them or let someone else do it so she’s the one that moves them outside.

Chloe, Max and William played World of Warcraft a lot before William died. Afterwards Chloe and Max stopped playing for years until they started dating. Chloe’s main was a forsaken warrior, while Max’s was a Tauren hunter (honestly just because she liked collecting pets) Chloe made them choose the Horde, btw

Max wants to like black coffee so SO bad because she really likes the coffee house aesthetic but she can’t. She hates coffee. Instead she drinks tea. Chloe made fun of people that like pumpkin spin flavored drinks until she had one and now she’s addicted to them.

Stargazing 2

Panic settling in to his system, Ironhide had no idea what to do in this situation. He was so desperate to keep this little secret to him self, to keep you out of harms way, only thinking about the human and the annoying agent Galloway that he completely forgot about his teammates, mainly Prime, who was looking down at him with quite the disappointment. His blue opticks shifted just a bit before Prime rubbed his forehead with a groan.

“Ironhide, how long has this been going on?”

“For some time.” Ironhide could not lie to him. At all. “Prime, can we keep this between us?”

“I am sorry, old friend, but I can not do such thing. You know well how Nest will react to the information of civilian finding out about this, especialy after all the effort they put in to keeping it peaceful and without civilians involvement” Prime grumble out, staring at Ironhide, knowing well that Galloway will go on rant “What you did is against agreement we had with human government.”

“I know, I know” Ironhide shook his hands, trying to deescalate the issue to make it seem like it was no big deal “I just had no other choice. They were kidnapped by a decepticon punk and I had to step in to save them. And after this it just got out of hand, I just making sure they won’t tell anyone about it”

“And you taken them to stargaze is one of those method to keep them quite I presume?” Prime cocked his eyebrow with disagreement “Ironhide, you will have to bring them in and inform Galloway about this first thing tomorrow, do you understand?”

“Yes Prime” Ironhide sighed heavily and long, wathign Prime nod and turn around, heading in to his room for the rest of the night, leaving Ironhide alone with his thought. Well there goes the little getaway he had. Grumbling under his “breath” Ironhide headed to his quarters, climbing n his berth to recharge, trying to think of some sort of way to get you out of this mess without your freedome being taken away. You already had enough of troubles on your shoulder, and he really did not wanted this peace to be taken away from him, no matter how selfish it sounded. Then an idea popped in to his mind – Bumblebee is given sort of free range with Sam, right? He is allowed to stay with Witwicky’s residence and they were even given some kind of benefits for staying quite, like this year the boy will be heading in to the “college” a luxury few could afford and because of his “connection” he got in to a good one. Maybe he can try and scratch Galloways ego in to tricking him in to giving the same treatment to you. You could use some new place, especialy if he will be placed as your “guardian”. He just hopped that Galloway is this egotistical as to make him self believe it was his choice. The next morning Ironhide was one of the first one to wake up and using the moment of being the first, and not wanting for Prime to question his action before he can commit them, Ironhide quickly left the base, saying that he was going for a drive and will be back soon. In this situation and for his plan to work, he needs you to be here. Even if you might not want it.

Who ever was ringing your phone like crazy at five in the morning must be crazy, or not have a life at all. Grumbling, you covered your head with pillow, reaching over for your phone and refusing the call over and over, before giving up and answering the phone, bringing the bright screen to your side of the face, mumbling a half asleep “huh?”

“Morning there, sleeping beauty” Ironhide. You hummed in protest, mumbling something out you did not understood your self, but seemed like your alien 22 feet robot understood perfectly fine “Yeah, I know you love your recharge on this days, but its very important that you will be ready when I’ll be there. You thingk you can do this?” you hummed in sleepy agreement, mentally cursing at your self for being such a people pleaser and not knowing how to say no to him. Well you could say no, you just did not wanted to explain t your landlord, again, why the window was broken. “Alright then, I will see you soon” and with that he hung up. Mumbling, you climbed out of your bed and looked aorund for something simple to put on, not wanting to deal with how you will look in such early hour, which ended up being a sweatpants made to look like jeans and a cyan hoody with some word you could not bother to read now. Still asleep, you shovelled towards kitchen, putting on a kettle of water for coffee, not ready to meet the day without some energy. It did not take  to long for the water to boil, pouring yourself a cup of instant coffee, blowing on it to take a sip, scavenging for something to take a bite off, managing to find some rice cakes. Munching on them, you heard a loud beeping, non stop, immideatly followed by angry yelling of someone about them being loud in 5 in the morning, which served as a sign that he was here, quickly finishing your coffee with help of cold water and shoving the cracker in your mouth, you put on pink sneakers and left your apartment. Ironhide seamed more impatient then ever, his door opening quickly and almost with impatient slammed it as soon as you got in, scaring you in to sort of waking up.

“What is going on?” you felt panic building up, the memory of the day you were kidnaped by a decepticon flooding back in to your mind.

“Just... Just have to clear some things up and let’s say we will meat with my team” Ironhide explained as he drove though streets, with you quickly buckling up as he past an intersection, barely missing red light. “Sort of meting and stuff. As well as “legal” things and stuff”

“Ah” you calmed down a bit, though still were worried about such meeting being arranged so suddenly. It did not take to long for you to arrive to a strange base, with soldier looking very confused upon seeing you in self driving car, as if they knew who Ironhide was, letting him pass and drive in to huge hangar, filled with other huge metal robots, all different in form and size, colour and posture, loking a bit shocked at your sight. There was no warning or time to get out as the metal around you creaked, bent and parted, things quickly moving in your vision, blurring in movement and you felt your self move as well, your stomch doing barrel rolls and your coffee dangerously close to being expelled. Thankfully the motion stopped, with you ending up in tight yet gentle grip of Ironhide, showing you off to other bots, who seemed shocked, quickly surrounding him and talking in their language. One with wheels for feet rolled over and reached out to pat your head, his three fingers messing up your bed hair even more, chippering something before Ironhide pulled yo away, huffing with what yo can think was a possessive jealousy. You were finally let down, though still surrounded by bots, the yellow one looked very displeased, with two smaller bots, green and orange, who looked like typical red necks,  were quite fascinated with you, shoving each other and dangerously close. You panicked and quickly ran behind Ironhide foot, who shifted a bit, moving it slightly all while other bott seamed to coo at such “cute” reaction. Though Ironhide then gently nudged you forward to them, saying something about how he will be back, leaving you in the mercy of new bots. You slowly raised your hand, waving a shy hello to new bots.

Knowing that you will be okay, Ironhide went looking for “human weasel”, walking around the base trying to find him before Prime could get a word of your sudden arrival. It did not take to long though as he quckly caught Galloways scent and it lead him to the main hangar, where thin man in suite and glasses was giving Lenox a new one about some mission, rumbling about property damadge and other stuff. It was stupid that they were still stuck with this idiot, especialy after the whole “fallen” and now the whole world knowing about them, even helping to deal with human “politics” and other scrap. Walking up, he waited for Lenox to storm away after Galloway was done, taking a step back to give his “co-worker” some space, getting him self ready to speak with natinal security adviser as well.

“What do YOU want” the disgust was clear in adviser’s voice, dripping like venom towards him. It was no secret that he did not like him and his kind, nor did Ironhide, but swallowing his pride, weapon specialist spoke up.

Twins seemed to be quite a lively bunch, to lively for your own safety though as they started fighting over something that you did not quite catch, decking each other in face and throwing each other around. You screamed, trying to get out of the path of their destruction, with the robot on wheels grabing you and lifting out of harms way as the spot you were got crushed under two bots, decking it out right there and right here, exchanging one punch after another, all while yelling something at each other and being yelled at by other bots. It seamed like the yellow one, who from what you can sort of realise was their only medick, Ratchet, had enough, grabbing them by their neck and tossing out of the hangar, with their metal bodies hitting the pavement yet they still continued fighting. You let a sigh of relief while still in hands of new grey bot, asking to be let down, but it seamed the new bot had other ideas, changing the grip and you find your self hanging down by your leg, dangling above ground while he continued examining you. From this position you heard another footstep and seemed every one chose to behave and you were let go. As the foot step grew louder and closer, you though your head up and froze with wide eyes, staring at the biggest robobt you’ve seen so far, red and blue, staring down at you with what you could only assume was confusion before looking at the others for explanation. You could only guess what summoned him so suddenly here. He seamed no to pleased though with your sudden appearance, looking aorund for the only bot missing here.

“Where is Ironhide” knowing well who this human might be, Optimus wanted to hear it from the bot him self, looking around the hangar, a bit surprised that you were easily handed to other.

“He said something about talking with Galloway, Prime” Ratchet answered, moving closer and looking down at you, who seemed to sink in them self. “I did not expected him to bring civilian here at all. Any ideas why?”

“Let just say we will learn soon” Optimus replied and it did not take to long for a voice to come though, asking for Prime and a “visitor” to meet at the main hangar for a talk with Agent about the mess Ironhide had created. Letting a heavy sigh, Prime reached down, scooping you up and walking out, leaving other autobots to figure things out. You hang on to dear life, clinging to flat digits, letting some panic whimpers while being carried in to main hangar, joining along for a surprise ride in hands of leaders of autobots, who seamed not to shocked about your existence and being here. you were relieved to see Ironhide in the same hangar you’ve been carried in to, but your relief quickly dwindling when you were placed on the platform next to a strange man, who was not to happy to see you, asking for other men to take you away. With Ironhide grumbling something about you being take away, you were lead down the platform in to other room, scared, confused and wondering just what this day will bring now.

i'm having surgery tomorrow so i'm just ranting about jikook to distract myself😂

the thing about jimin is that fortunately he received loads of love growing up from his parents (particularly his dad) and i really think he radiated that love out on the members and especially jungkook. no wonder jungkook grew so attached to jimin as he left home at 13 so was undoubtedly missing out on parental love due to proximity (being away from his parents) but had jimin not to compensate for that but just give jungkook a lot of care and love. that must be why the rainy day fight was so massive to jungkook because he understood that he had a lot to lose. this is not me taking anything away from jungkook and saying he became himself because of the members but he himself said that the members had a big influence in who he grew up to be and while i'm sure in any normal circumstance, he would still have become the lovely kind person he is today, from how he admires jimin for his kindness and lovingness (and receiving that love), i'm sure that had a lot to do with how he is literally the kindest, nicest, most patient and positive person. it's also wild to have watched him from age 19 in real time become so considerate and mature over the years. growing up he watched jimin be loving, considerate and kind to others and really admired him for it, and that coupled with receiving loads of love from jimin must have had a massive impact on him.

looking at jimin in the earlier days (2016/17) i think he was very much needing to find his person within the group, like when you're in school and you want to have that one friend that you will always sit next to and pair up with for everything. receiving stable love from his family probably meant that he wanted that stable love in the group as well and i think his personality very much aligns with needing that one person being very loyal and stable and putting him first etc. i mean it was obvious when he was so keen on jungkook picking him for everything in run episodes and how he was pairing himself up with jungkook so they're seen as a duo (all the extra attention he gave jungkook which the members picked up on, the pictures he would post to twitter etc). an obvious member to be this person for jimin would have been tae but this is where personality differences come into it. tae is a social butterfly who loves to be around people, loves to be adored by a big group and loves to have a big friendship group. he doesn't necessarily need one bestie, he feels happy having a bigger group and while i'm sure he has one (or two or more) people he's more deeply involved with, day to day he prefers to be in a group rather than one on one. for this reason as much as vmin are soulmates, jimin wasn't gonna get what he needed from tae. funnily enough though jungkook turned out to be the perfect person to pair up with for jimin. i mean he really did become jimin's loyal pup and 'toy' because of the reasons above. jungkook the same as jimin loves that loyal ride or die one person through everything kinda relationship so they were perfectly matched that way. jungkook provided what jimin needed perfectly (even if he at times denied it lol) so jimin didn't even need to ask after jungkook completely gave in.

over the years i think jimin especially chilled out on this but this is why it is entirely believable that they would enlist together as companions (and why jungkook found it hard to be away from jimin - and i think he found it harder because he's been attached to jimin from a younger age) and why they'd do a travel show together. and tbh once you understand how and why jikook are so close is when you start to wonder because one possibility is that you'd expect them to act like brothers because that makes sense - they're both from busan and both have brothers the same age as each other. and bro jokes discounted (which doesn't mean they're literally calling each other brother lol) they don't act like brothers at all nor do the members (or anyone) treat them like siblings (or they wouldn't ask them if they're a couple when they wear matching outfits or joke about the rainy day fight being like a kdrama couple fight).

i'm happy for them whatever they are and i don't even like to focus on the nature of their relationship a lot (not that it's any of my business in the first place lol) because i feel like that can take away from appreciating their closeness however i think we're also in a situation where if people understand how close they are, they cannot not wonder about them and about what that means for their relationship (i also think this is why some people love to be dramatic and come up with all sorts of stuff). all this is to say i do wish people appreciated jikook's bond more but that would require them to understand and appreciate jimin and jungkook separately as well as together and idk how often that happens tbh.

Alike to turtles, I have problematic views!! I look at things that 3/4 of the fandom shares a view in and go: That’s not what’s happening.

The people in my life have heard me ramble I cannot shut up:

I went to this event months ago and it did Trivia and a round was Greek Mythology and everyone in my group was like, “Neko, this is all on you. Don’t let us down” and I got 9/10 right. Go me ✨

Based off this, I wanna say that Calypso is my favorite character. 🤔

I mean, I created a blog where our only purpose in life is to be safe in our horror and empathy for her situation and to acknowledge that she has so much nuance that the fandom doesn’t touch.

But I think if I’m being honest, it’s not her.

At the end of the day, my angsty heart is drawn to Athena.

Everything about her breaks my heart. She’s a goddess in a disfunctional family who doesn’t understand mortal ways.

Also, her dad is the most toxic dude alive.

I mean, there’s this one line that people portray in so many ways, but you watch how Zeus interacts with her and recall the fact that he literally didn’t want her to live when she was conceived- he is SUCH a bully and her respect only stems from him being ‘king of the gods’.

None of the gods step in during God Games. At no point does anyone go “dad you can’t threaten your daughter because she did exactly what you asked her to do”. Not even ARES.

He’s the one who says, mortified, “is she dead?” So he didn’t WANT that turn of events. He cares about her and her state of being.

She’s the only one willing to challenge Zeus and he literally says, “you won, I don’t care, I’m going to heavily punish you because I’m unhappy that you said a true statement I didn’t like”

I've no respect for bullies, those who impose their will I've seen plenty enough to truly understand this kind of filth

They were in two different spectrums and that’s why they clashed.

She was running off of a mentor mindset. He was running off a friendship mindset. Neither was doing what the other needed for the relationship because they were not on the same page.

And then they hit the ditch in the road and everything cracked.

And Athena’s proclamation literally is a prediction for herself:

Time skip: the way that Athena talks to Telemachus says that she’s been stewing in regret because she KNOWS they were good friends and she didn’t want to admit it to herself. She understands why they clashed and now she doesn’t know what to do about it.

So this kid is like “I think you should help him even if he hates you. If he won’t accept your friendship then I’ll be here waiting.”

AND THAT’S LITERALLY EXACTLY WHAT SHE NEEDED TO HEAR?

I’m a sucker for ‘doing everything for the people you care about but platonically’ and Athena is the PICTURE of ‘oh wait I would platonically die for my friend’ and like?? That’s beautiful??? 😭

My only qualm with EPIC is the way that the Ithaca Saga handled Athena because you cannot convince me that it did not do her dirty. I have read and scrolled and chewed on all the arguments.

That. Beautiful. Goddess. Went. Above. And. Beyond. To. Mend. Her. Mistake and he outright denied her friendship.

That was not a “oh yeah we can be friends later” very well.

That’s a voice cracking, heartbroken: “I took a thunderbolt for you and you don’t want me in your life” very well. LIKE.

Yes. Oddy went through a lot. No denying that.

But he called out for HER. After everything, he called out for HER HELP. Showed a belief in her. Counted on her to save him

AND SHE DID WHAT HE NEEDED. TOOK A THUNDERBOLT. BEGGED ON HER KNEES WHILE SUFFERING AND IN AGONY.

I can't help but wonder What this world could be If we all held each other with a bit more empathy I can't help but feel like I led you astray What if there's a world where we don't have to live this way?

There was no reason, no obligation, nothing but her love and affection for him that drew her to take that punishment from Zeus.

There is no way, after everything, she’s asking him to be her warrior.

She’s literally saying she messed up. She wants to mend their relationship. She wants to do better for him.

He could have said, “I’m not a man who does empathy anymore but we can try” instead of “I have other plans, gonna have to miss this friendship train” because that is an awful diss. Straight painful.

This amazing song did her so dirty and I will never get over it.

Thank goodness for Telemachus. She’ll needs his optimism and joy and willing friendship after the sting from that bite.

Gravity Falls Rant #1 Ft. The Pines twins! 😀😀😀😀 (They make me violently ill).

Thinking about the Pines twins is actually like chewing your way through wires only to see a guinea pig playset and more confusing wires. The somewhat beginning of their thirty year-long no-contact session was because of a book, a request, and a whole lot of longing. To Stan the book was partially what kept his brother from him besides himself and now it was all he had to bring his brother back. To Ford the book was the only way to save the world and he was entrusting it to his brother only to be let down. 

Growing up as the Pines twins was rough. Ford was a trophy for his father but people don't sit their trophies on the couch with them and talk to them like people. Trophies are made for polishing and shelves and a ton of showing off. And no matter how big the trophy is it isn't big enough or worth enough. Ford was smart. He knew he was smart but it wasn't enough. Because if it were enough he would already have the answers and already have solved the problem. He couldn't see himself as good enough so how could Stan be? This man, his brother, that his father, the person that made him the brainiac better brother saw as worse than him being good enough? No. No he loves Stan but no. How could Stan be? How could anyone be? Even when he saw Dipper as an apprentice, Dipper needed improving, Dipper needed to change parts of his mindset to become enough. Ford was ruined by his father and ruined by Bill and ruined by the shelf he was forced to sit on. He was selfish in his own way, he was more shiny golden plaque with a pencil behind his ear than man by the time Bill got to him wasn't he? He pushed his brother away before Bill. Yes, that's true. He doesn't trust people. Yes, that's also true. In his eyes he trusted his brother to save the world from his crazy evil ex 2d creep boyfriend that wants to destroy his dimension and plenty more where that came from. And because he trusted him it all went bad. He got trapped in a portal and the crook that did it to him stole his identity, his titles, his degrees, and scuffed it in the mud. There's no excusing what they both did to each other but there are causes and there are reactions. 

And when it comes to Stan yeah he's money crazy probably because his father messed him up too. The twins' father saw them as investments and money pouring into his pocket. Ford could buy him his ticket to retirement and own his own private bank with his smarts but what could Stan do? How much does being put out on the lawn with a for sale sign for only three bucks or more with your title being "other Stan" do to you? He needed money, he needed to become an investment somehow. Gambling for quick bucks? Yes, that's it! He was a dog but not man’s best friend. Maybe it would be enough but it would go on to haunt him for the rest of his life. By the time he came into money he had taken his brother's name, identity, house, and what else was left for him besides his mountain of debt? Who really made the money when his name wasn't his name, him or Ford? He needs a lot of cash to rebuild and fix up that portal anyways. Maybe his mother and the IRS agent could forgive what he's done, although his mother has always been an OG, enough to go to his fake funeral but could he forgive himself? Forgive himself for what he took and took and took and took? For what strange person he sees in the mirror with dimes between its teeth? 

And yes he's selfish and seemingly only does things for his own benefit but imagine being trusted by one person, his brother, and one person only to do something right. Their father trusted Stan alright but he only trusted him to screw up and be the "other brother" yes the second Stan, the never Ford Stan. Imagine being trusted for once, trusted, by someone to even save the world possibly. And instead of saving the world you accidentally push that person into a portal and don't see them for the next thirty years. How is Stan supposed to trust himself to do anything right for anyone after that? He's greedy, but is he greedy for wanting his brother back knowing he's the reason he wants him back in the first place? He knows he did wrong but he just wants his brother. The world has taken every bit of dignity he wishes he had but his brother has to be off limits! At least according to him, the self sabotaging screw up. The look Ford gives him sure makes him feel like he's a greedy screw up. He's wearing the skin of the person he lost because of his own actions who saw him as a con artist and the suit of the man that didn't want him from the get-go who saw him as a cheap one trick pony. 

When Ford saw his brother he saw his father. The person Stan and Ford were molded by and ruined by. This man was the wack job Bill probably wanted to turn him into meddling around up there. And he was wearing his name? Stan did a lot but to take Ford’s name? To turn Ford into this? Into what he was sculpted opposite from? Why? How? How could he forgive him for this after just getting out of the other dimension? He was a future hero! How could Stan make a future hero look so lame! And not only that, he'd remembered his brother being a loving but corny cheapskate with a sly tongue and a bit of scamming under his boots. Now that's the exact person he wants to get away from. Because that's who Bill was. Stan didn't want to be his father but maybe being his father would make him proud? Ford wanted to be good for their father. Maybe if Stan became their father Ford would turn to him and they could laugh for a while and only a while. Maybe that's a stretch but we can over-analyze and never stop with their dynamics. 

They both pushed the people they cared about away. And they both want things out of each other that in their minds they'll probably never get from a brick wall. They're both greedy for things they feel deep down they'll never reach because of what the people around them made them out to be. Stan, being greedy for money if that's all you know him for. And Ford being greedy for the role of hero.

When Bill tried to call Stan and tell him Ford was going to end his life and leave him all alone to his BS? And to say that Ford never loved him in Ford's own body? Ford felt his heart drop for a minute until he noticed that the message hadn't been sent. He has things against his brother but to tell him that? To tell him he never loved him? No. Bill taught him to trust no one and in the other dimension he might've tried to hammer it into his brain but he couldn't. There was a brother shaped hole where his heart was and his six fingers couldn't crack the code on how to get rid of it. To Ford his trust was his love. He loved his brother but could he trust his brother now? Could he trust anyone now? Who knows. It's all over and there's a boat to sail at the end of it all. With his brother.  

They're brothers. And it's messy but that's it. They're brothers. 

There's obviously so much you could say about what Bill did to Ford mentally and a lot about the positive aspects having their mother around and not just their father and yada yada their father isn't their only trauma but isn't the home where it all begins?

So I haven’t really thought about how to make Kylo and Hux be friends in canon, but I love imagining them as unlikely bros in an AU. Like either Earth AUs, or my particular brand of Unserious Star Wars AU where it is Star Wars, but also they have Twi’ktok and Spacebucks lol.

I like imagining them not as Kylo and Hux, but as Ben and Armitage. Since Armitage is older than Ben, I think the concept of Armie being in his 20s while Ben is a snotty teenager is hilarious…and so is the concept of Armitage being a depressed 30yo while Ben is living it up in his 20s.

I actually had an arc planned for my Ask Ben Solo AU, where Ben and Armitage become roommates. I ended up not doing it but maybe some of it will still be salvageable:

Armitage goes by Armitage Arkanis. He is in hiding from the First Order. Ben introduces himself as Ben Quadinaros because he can tell Armitage is politically weird and he doesn’t really want to get into the fact that his mother is Leia Organa. This results in neither of them knowing the other’s last name or who their parents are. They both kind of suspect the other is hiding something, but because they are both hiding something, neither one presses the other further.

Armitage works at Spacebucks. Ben mentions something about his first order of coffee and Armitage reacts very normally to the words “First Order” (actually I did use this idea)

They hate each other. Obviously. Armitage is super uptight and keeps the apartment super clean; Ben is a little more messy. (It’s funny because since I ended up having Poe be Ben’s roommate, Ben became the clean one and Poe became the messy one—actually now in my universe Poe and Armitage are roommates so we can only speculate the chaos…LOL)

Ben calls Armitage “you bastard,” Armitage reacts very normally to this by threatening to kill him with a kitchen knife. (Armitage is an illegitimate child and his father had never let him forget that)

Armitage keeps flipping out about like the silverware not being put in the drawer correctly, things like that, etc. Ben sees him having a panic attack about the silverware or some equivalent and that makes Ben be like “ah frick now I have sympathy for him I hate this” (Ben also has anxiety)

Ben is watching the live coverage of the election for First Senator of the New Republic, where Leia’s parentage is publicly revealed to be Darth Vader. Ben is freaking out about this. That’s when Armitage, in a rare display of sympathy, reveals his last name is Hux, and who his own father is. And he reveals to Ben about the existence of the First Order, which at the time is widely considered a rumor. Armitage reveals that he fled the First Order after attempting and failing to murder his father Brendol Hux. He changed his name and went into hiding…only to find out that no one was looking for him. Even after attempting to murder Brendol, even that wasn’t enough to make Brendol think Armitage was worth his time.

Armitage rants to Ben about hating his dad (this would have fit in with Ben’s other friend ranting about hating her dad and also Ben’s mom ranting about hating her dad—it’s like poetry—it rhymes)

Ben, who is working for a newspaper at this time and kind of hates his entry-level position, takes his newfound information on the First Order to the newspaper in hopes of getting his big break. They end up firing him without even reading his story—claiming it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Darth Vader was revealed to be his grandfather on live holocoverage. Ben has to move back home since he’s unemployed, which means he also has to say bye to Armitage…but he encourages him to talk to Leia and share the information he has with her. Armitage declines. He no longer wants any part in any of this. He wants to try to lead a simple life and figure out who he is.

But, years later, when the First Order declares war and blows up Hosnian Prime…guess who shows up to join the Resistance: Armitage Arkanis

Sinners aren’t the only ones who can be overlords (theory)

⚠️ HAZBIN HOTEL SPOILERS ⚠️

I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this (hopefully I’m not late to this idea) but I’m pretty sure overlord status isn’t solely given to sinner demons. I'll be focusing on Rosie and Carmilla but I'm also going to include other characters for comparison sake. I'm also going to reference the Wiki page for the characters as well as things that Faustisse has said in the past while they were still working on the series. Take these with a grain of salt, this is just a theory after all, if I'm proven wrong by the show then so be it lol.

I've seen some talk in the fandom regarding not only Carmilla and her daughters but also Rosie and the residents of Cannible Town. I think the biggest thing I've seen is people being confused as to how Carmilla could have daughters since sinner demons cannot reproduce. A lot of the confusion is regarding how Carmilla could have daughters if she's a sinner given the reproduction issue. I think one of the popular theories is that Odette and Clara happened to die as adults and reunited with Carmilla in hell which makes sense if we are looking at them as sinners. However, while I was looking at the wiki page for Rosie I noticed a pattern with the other characters; their species are typically specified as more than just "demon" if applicable. For example; Moxxie, Milly, and Blitzo are all specified as "imp demons" while Alstor, Vox, and Valentino are specified as "sinner demons" showing that they are different.

(Below is screenshots of the wiki pages from each character mentioned above so you can see what I mean)

Similarly, if we look at Stolas, Charlie, and Octavia, their wiki pages have them labelled as just demons, with no specification, however, we know all three of them are hellborns.

Now I bring this up because if we look at Carmilla and her daughter's Wiki pages, they are denoted as a demon with no further specification.

If we are to take this in the same context as Stolas and Charlie, it's a fair assumption to make that they are all hellborn demons. We don't exactly know how many different subspecies of hellborns there are aside from the ones that have been shown in Helluva Boss. To quote the HH wiki describing the hierarchy, hellborn demons include "Succubi and Incubi, among other unknown demon species of Hell". Who's to say that Carmilla and her daughters aren't part of this unknown subspecies of demons? This I think could help explain how Carmilla has two daughters as a demon.

Now in episode seven, we do see that Carmilla and her daughters were attacked by exorcists. As part of the extermination deal between Lucifer and Heaven, the exorcists are not allowed to kill hellborns. If this is the case, why would the exorcists attack Carmilla? Well, there could be a few reasons. The first reason could be that the exorcists mistook Carmilla and her daughters as sinners. Who knows how much the exorcists are taught about demons and the differences between hellborns and sinners. It could be that these angels mistook them as sinners whether it be because Carmilla looks similar to other sinners, or the exorcists were just caught up in th moment and attacked and demon who passed by. We could also guess that most angels just assume that all the demons in Pride are sinners since it seems that most hellborn demons originate from other rings.

On the other hand, perhaps the exorcist just didn't care. Who knows how long Adam had been planning to move up the exterminations. Who knows how the other exorcists see the exterminations from an individual standpoint. Lute obviously has her own opinions of demons and the exterminations so who knows what the other angels feel. These could have been exorcists who didn't care about the deal. Maybe they thought because they're angles they're better than demons and could perhaps get away with killing a hellborn (the hubris am I right?)? Maybe they thought they could come up with some kind of excuse to get themselves out of it. Who knows.

In a similar vein, I've seen once or twice people on Twitter talk about how the cannibals in Cannibal Town all look relatively similar despite it being shown that sinner demons have unique demon forms (obviously with some similarities if it's between families like Angel and his brother/father for example). I think I saw one tweet suggesting that the cannibals are another subspecies of hellborns (I unfortunately only saw it in passing and don't know the user off the top of my head) and I actually think this could have some merit to it.

Jumping back to the wiki pages, if you look at Rosie's page she also has the "demon" title without any sort of additional specification. Already this matches with what I mentioned at the very beginning regarding Charlie and Stolas. Faustisse also mentions that Rosie didn't die (it's included in Rosie's trivia section) alluding to the idea that she is, in fact, a hellborn demon.

Likewise, while I was looking at the wiki page for Cannibal Town, I noticed this little gem in the trivia section. I think it's safe to assume that the reason all of the cannibal demons look the same/similar is that they are just another subspecies of demons native to Pride. This, again, can explain how there are children in Cannibal Town despite sinners not being able to reproduce; none of them are actually sinners.

Now why do I bring this up? Well for two reasons; one it's just kind of cool to know that sinners aren't the only demons who can potentially gain overlord status. This means that, in theory, other hellborns could also gain higher status if they can make deals and collect souls. There is actually a good chunk of overlords that aren't specified as sinners, such as Velvette and Zestial alongside Carmilla and Rosie. As far as I can tell only Alastor, Vox, and Valentino are sinner demon overlords (we could also include Husk if we take into account that he used to be an overlord before the events of the show). This is just a cool little detail that I didn't catch at first that could end up being important or not important at all later in the show. And again, it can also show that those in the lower ranks of the hierarchy could potentially move up in status, not just the sinners.

The second reason I am bringing up this theory is that it adds another layer to Alastor's plan during the finale. So in the last episode, Alastor brings Charlie to Rosie to ask for assistance in fighting Adam. Now on the surface, we could read into this as Alastor knows Rosie will help because they're friends and he knows she'd be willing to support Charlie. This did likely play a part in why Alastor chose to go to Rosie.

However, if the cannibals are hellborns then perhaps he thought that the hotel would get some kind of win no matter what happened. I mentioned before that as part of the agreement for the exterminations to happen the exorcists can't kill hellborns. Perhaps Alastor took into account that with the cannibals around, the angels would have a harder time getting to the hotel as they would be trying to avoid killing demons that they aren't allowed to kill. This would allow the others more chances to sneak in and kill the exorcists while they're distracted.

On the other hand, he could have assumed that if the exorcists or Adam didn't care about the deal anymore then they would get in major trouble with the rest of Heaven for killing the cannibals. One way or another the Hotel is getting some kind of upper hand in the fight regardless; either they have a way to distract the angles or they put the angels in a position where they get in trouble later.

I tried looking back in the episode to see if any of the cannibals actually died and I couldn't see any. Perhaps it was just for the ease of animating or because it wasn't a huge focus in the battle so the effect the battle had on the cannibals just wasn't shown. Though, if I had to guess since Lucifer didn't show up until after Dazzle died and Charlie was in real trouble then none of the cannibals were injured or killed.

Overall I just think this is kind of a cool theory that I think adds some depth to the characters and/or their actions. Again, this is also just a fan theory so please don't take it as gospel. If anyone on the Hazbin team comes out and expands more on the cannibals and Carmilla that completely contradicts this then it is what it is! This was just something that I noticed today while I was working on a different Hazbin post and I had to write it somewhere lol.

"Murder is Werewolves" - Batman

I don't got the SPOONS to do this thought train justice, I have seriously been trying to write this thing for MONTHS so just, idk, have this half baked skeletal outline of the essay I guess:

I don't believe that Batman's no-kill rule is primarily about rehabilitation or second chances.

His refusal to believe that Cassandra could have killed someone when she was eight years old because "how could a killer understand my commitment not to kill" is absolute fucking MOON LOGIC from a rehabilitationist standpoint. No jury on the planet would think for even a second that she could reasonably be held accountable for her actions in that situation! Her past cannot condemn her to being incapable of valuing human life under a rehabilitation centering framework. However, Batman's reasoning makes perfect sense if he believes that killing is a spiritually/morally corrupting act which permanently and fundamentally changes a person, and that corruption can never be fully undone.

Dick Grayson killing the Joker is treated both narratively and by Batman as an unequivocally WIN for the Joker. The Joker won by turning Nightwing into a killer. Note that this is during a comic in which the Joker transforming people was a major theme! Batman didn't revive the Joker because the Joker deserved to live; he revived the Joker to lift the burden on Dick.

His appeal to Stephanie when she tried to kill her dad is that she shouldn't ruin her own life. He gives no defense of Cluemaster's actual life. Granted this is a rhetorical strategy moment and should be taken with a generous pinch of salt, but it fits in the pattern.

When Jason becomes a willful killer, he essentially disowns him, never treats him with full trust ever again, and... Well, we can stop here for Bruce's sake. Bottom line is that his actions towards Jason do not lead me to believe that he thinks Jason can become a better person without having his autonomy taken from him, either partially or fully.

The Joker is, for better or worse, the ultimate symbol and vessel of pure, irredeemable evil in DC comics now. He hasn't been just another crook in a long time. He will never get better, he will only get worse. If you take it to be true that the Joker will not or can not rehabilitate, then there's no rehabilitationist argument against killing him.

Batman does not seem to consider it a possibly that he'll rehabilitate. Batman at several points seems to think that the Joker dying in a manner no one could have prevented would be good. Yet Batman fully believes that if he killed the Joker, he himself would become irredeemable.

Batman's own form of justice (putting people into the hospital and then prison) is fucking brutal and clearly not rehabilitative. He disrespects the most basic human rights of all criminals on a regular basis. It is genuinely really, really weird from a rehabilitationist standpoint that his only uncrossable line is killing... But it makes perfect sense if he cares more about not corrupting himself with the act of killing than the actual ethical results of any individual decision to kill or not kill.

In the real world cops are all bastards because they are too violent to criminals, even when that violence doesn't lead to death. Prison is a wildly evil thing to do to another human being, and you don't use it to steal away massive portions of a person's life if your goal is to rehabilitate them. In the comic world, Batman is said to be necessary because the corrupt cops are too nice to criminals and keep letting them out of jail. I don't know how to write a connector sentence there so like I hope you can see why this bothers me so damn much! That's just not forgiveness vibes there Batman!!

I want to make special note here of the transformative aspect. You don't simply commit a single act when you kill, no, you become a killer, like you might become a werewolf.

The narrative supports this a lot!

Why did Supes go evil during Injustice? He killed the Joker. Why did Bruce become the Batman Who Laughs? Bruce killed the Joker. Why was Jason Todd close to becoming a new Joker during Three Jokers? Because he killed people, to include the Joker.

Even if these notions of redemption being impossible aren't the whole of his reasoning (people never have only one reason for doing what they do) it is a distinct through-line pattern in his actions and reasoning, and it is directly at odds with notions of rehabilitation, redemption, and second chances.

So why does he give so many killers second chances?

Firstly because this doesn't apply to all versions of Batman. Some writers explicitly incorporate rehabilitation and forgiveness into his actions. You will be able to provide me with examples of this other through-line pattern if you go looking for them. The nature of comics is to be inconsistent.

Secondly the existence of that other pattern does not negate the existence of this one. People and characters are complex, and perfectly capable of holding two patterns of belief within themselves, even when they conflict to this degree. You can absolutely synthesize these two ideas into a single messy Batman philosophical vibescape.

Finally and most importantly to this essay: he has mercy on killers the same way that werewolf hunters sometimes have mercy on someone who is clearly struggling against their monsterous nature, especially if they were turned in exceptional circumstances or against their will. They understand that they are sick, damned beasts, cursed to always be fighting against themselves and the evil they harbor within. It is vitally kind to help them fight themselves by curtailing their autonomy in helpful ways and providing them with chances to do some good to make up for their eternal moral deficiency.

I think in many comics Batman views killers as lost souls. Battered and tormented monsters who must be pitied and given mercy wherever possible. (The connections to mental health, addiction, and rampant, horrifying ableism towards people struggling with both is unavoidable, but addressing it is sadly outside of the scope of this essay.)

Above all, the greatest care possible must be taken to never, ever let yourself become one of them, because once you have transformed the beast will forever be within you growing stronger.

To Batman, it is the most noble burden, the highest mercy, the most important commandment: Thou shalt suffer the monsters to live.

Thinking of Cass and Damian got me thinking of the New 52 and how the dynamic between Batgirl and Robin there is even more proof of the travesty that was Babsgirl. She's been the longest running Batgirl to Damian's Robin, has witnessed most of the events of his life as Robin and yet their dynamic is just... A nothing burger. She's there in batfamily group reactions in the New 52 as the most heinous use of the Smurfette Principle I've seen in a long while. Tim isn't Tim, Dick isn't fully treated as Bruce's son, Jason exists mostly to say funny one liners, and yet despite the shallow characterisation there are still moments and events you can point to and say look. This happened. They interacted with Damian and it meant something. With Babsgirl? Nothing. How can there be anything when they're shoving a grown woman into a role she's outgrown for years now and forcing her to be the Batgirl of a preteen Robin? Her original Robin gets his own mantle, gets to be an adult with a legacy. She's shoved back into this role she doesn't fit in and because they know damn well she doesn't fit in it and they're just doing it for misogyny, they don't even try to make Batgirl and Robin a thing. Any interaction they had during the new 52 was so unremarkable and flavourless, devoid of character and heart, that I've never seen a single panel of the two of them in my 16 years as a DC fan.

Steph had a 24 issue batgirl run where she interacted with Damian a few times. Cass got even less than that with a six issue miniseries to bond with him. And yet the characterisation, writing and dynamic created in those stories was interesting, entertaining and impactful enough to last in the fandom for YEARS when Cass and Steph got erased. When you think of Damian's big sister you think of Steph, Cass, Maya etc long before you think of Babsgirl.

It's just infuriating to me. All those years of potential Batgirl and Robin stories wasted on a duo with as much cultural impact on the Batgirl and Robin team up as the James Cameron Avatar movies had on the word Avatar. All so they could erase the women of the batfam and reduce the sole one remaining down to The Girl Bat. Yeah whatever she was there in Damian's life when Steph and Cass weren't why am I supposed to care when her standing there gave me nothing to work with emotionally compared to a single conversation Steph or Cass had with Damian back in 2011. Compared with them or even Oracle Babs, I care about Babsgirl and Damian's dynamic and bond as much as DC and it's writers do. Which is to say, not at all.

So, lore?

Lo'en is a half elf and across the world there are designated elven kingdoms. One of them! Where she was born and her mother (elf) still lives, is frigid and in the north. Humans still have an odd tradition for Santa and so she hides her slightly pointed ears so that she doesn't have to sit through ANOTHER "Saint Nick" story that the northern elf king refuses to be offended by. His name is Niklava and he rather LIKES the association of how giving the cold can be! Lo'en could easily live without hearing another comment about ol' Saint Nick and his elves though.

Hold, while technically human/mortal, is cursed to live life over and over. And he has plant/green powers. He gets a lot of the "oh you'll grow up to be fine one of these days!" "you're still a sprout in this life time" "you still have time to bloom then!" and he also hates it.

Because Hold has to continue living even after he dies (though his body regresses to a child like age as he "recovers from death") he's absolutely enamored with Lo'en who just continues to exist. Her life span is way longer than a humans, longer than his /should/ be. And he admires her a lot and is really grateful to have her around for so many of his lives lived. Lo'en is relieved to have someone she gets along with who won't die and leave her forever. He dies, sure, but he gets better.

Lo'en meets Hold first while during one of his sister's dead phases so that's why the two are much closer than Lo'en is to Hold's sister. The two girls do help keep Hold safe when he's dead but they aren't super best friends or anything.

I feel like this is a horrible thing to say, but when I'm shown examples of when Marinette is having a hard time, it's hard for me to feel bad for her.

It's not like I think she deserves it and I certainly don't draw any joy from it, but I just don't feel any sympathy for when she's struggling.

My theory is that the show has toted her so much as the all-important one-and-only, all while ignoring everyone else's important moments and struggles, that I'm struggling to feel sympathetic for when Marinette is going through some sort of misfortune. Every single one of her struggles are always highlighted in such a way that it's supposed to be this incredibly-important thing that makes Marinette look so sad, but then she's comforted and validated until eventually, this struggle eventually gets resolved and she's all happy again.

But then there's Adrien. No closure about his mom, his dad, Natalie—nothing. He's slapped with all the responsibility of comforting and validating Marinette, who eventually gets her personal conflicts resolved without lasting impact.

I'm not saying Marinette hasn't done anything to comfort and validate Adrien, but his conflicts just feel largely brushed aside and/or downplayed in comparison to Marinette's, which are highlighted and emphasized as significant events.

I don't know if this makes me a bad person or something, and I do kind of feel bad about it, but I just struggle to sympathize with her when the show tries to make us feel bad for her.

Marinette is a fictional character. It's totally fine if the bad writing has completely turned you off to her and drained you of sympathy because the entire purpose of her existence is to entertain people. She's not some meaningful representation that you should want to connect with and understand to improve your world view or something like that. She's just a poorly written teenager in a bad kids show. As long as you're able to acknowledge that fact and own that this is mainly a writing issue - and it sounds like you are - I wouldn't stress about it. The writers have done a lot to make her unlikable! I totally get why someone would not want to watch a show starring her canon self. I struggle at times and I genuinely like Marinette! Her writing is one of the many reasons I just don't know if I'm going to watch season six.

I don't defend Marinette because she's done nothing wrong. I defend her because her faults are so clearly just bad writing and not some grand plan for the character where she's going to learn something, which makes me feel protective of her because I genuinely love the base character concept and what she could have been. It's annoying to see people treating her like she's the problem and not the writing because she's literally not allowed to learn lessons and change, so of course she keeps coming across worse and worse! Her flaws are genuinely fine for a serialized story, they just have no place in an episodic one where the characters stay largely stagnant.

For example, nothing about the season five conflict and final naturally follows the BS season four conflict where she supposedly learned to trust Chat Noir. As much as I don't agree that with that synopsis of what the conflict was, it is how Ladybug sums it up in the final:

Ladybug: Why don't you just give up on me? I've lost ALL the Miraculous! I'm the worst Guardian EVER! I wanted to control everything, I didn't listen to you, I lied to you, I kept you at a distance! Every time you offered me a helping hand, I never took it! I really made a mess of EVERYTHING! Cat Noir: We're gonna get them back one by one…until the very last. And we'll make sure this never happens again.

And yet none of this seems to impact season five. Chat Noir and Ladybug maintain all their secrets and they do absolutely nothing to track down the missing miraculous because the plot won't let them even though it really doesn't fit Marinette's character. She certainly hasn't given up controlling things because, once again, the show literally will not let her do that. The rare episodes where it happens always see her punished like when Alya handing out miraculous lead to SentiNino which almost lead Gabriel to knowing Ladybug's secret identity. Adrien suffers for similar reasons. So does Alya and so many other characters! I totally get why someone would not be able to look past canon's writing since it's not like the flaws are minor. I have the same problem with both Lila and Nathalie.

I just cannot stand Nathalie even though I know that she's as much of a victim as Marinette and all the other characters. None of Nathalie's flaws are her fault because she doesn't exist. It's just that Nathalie's bad writing hits me in a way that makes me despise her while Marinette's hits in a "protect and defend" way. There's no wider logic here. It's just a matter of what characters I connected with enough to look past the bad writing. The type of fanfics I read probably also helped...

My only real piece of advice on this topic is to watch your mental health and take a Miraculous break or even leave the fandom all together if you notice that your Marinette hate (or hate of anything in canon) is really messing with you. I've mentioned before that I'm debating about watching season six and a big reason why is that I don't know if it's going to be good for my mental health. Lila's writing has consistently got on my nerves, but she was a minor enough character that I was still having a good time. Given that Lila is our new big bad with the added bonus of how shitty season five was and the show may have hit a point where it's just not fun for me anymore.

Previously, I had issues with the overall writing, but genuinely enjoyed watching the show as the writers are pretty good at short form story telling, so canon was a nice mix of genuinely enjoyable moments and writing issues that were fun to talk about. That was not true for season five and I just can't picture how it will be true for season six. The only reason I'm even considering it is because I watch the show with my SO and he has a lot of fun listening to me rant about bad media, so I may still have a good time with season six. It would not be the first time that I suffered through a piece of bad media for the sake of a loved one who really wanted someone to rant about it with.

I'm not the kind of person who will tell people they're not welcome in a fandom unless they like X. That sort of gate keeping is ugly and often straight up bullying, so don't read this as me saying that you have to like Marinette to enjoy the show or that you need to disengage if you don't like X% of canon. As long as you're having fun and not forcing your dislike on others by sending clearly unwelcome asks or engaging with sugar posts in an antagonistic way or anything like that, then I'm going to defend your right to be in fandom even if we personally aren't going to get along and need to stay in our separate fandom bubbles.* All I'm saying is that it's important to know when to disengage from a piece of media. To keep track of when something starts consistently bringing you more sorrow than joy. When that line is crossed? It's time to move on.

The sad fact is that, while you may utterly adore a piece of media, you have no control of what that media will do, so you need to be very careful about trusting your mental health to total strangers. It's part of why I tend to be so critical of media. Analysis and plot pitches like I do on this blog are genuinely fun for me, but they're also a much healthier way to engage with a story than just trusting it to be good and getting burned when it isn't. There's a reason I avoid theory crafting. I've gotten really into that in the past and wound up hurt because I put way too much faith in strangers who ended up sucking at their job.

*Btw, the line about separate fandom bubbles was not aimed at you. It's just a general statement about how fandom works. All are welcome, but all do not need to directly interact. Curating your fandom experience is important self care. Blocking someone isn't some sort of value judgement. It's just sometimes a thing you need to do in order to keep from seething when you accidentally see their asinine hot takes.
