Hello friend! You are not a bother at all! Thank you for the question - I love talking about N, so this is fantastic.

Great timing because I’ve been talking with my friend about the Sewell family today. I’ve been thinking a lot about this very topic (well, about N and sweet Milton).

So! Not an expert by any means on Aristocratic British Society of the Stuart Era/Georgian Era cusp, so my thoughts are extrapolated from Jane Austen (Northanger Abbey, P&P, and Persuasion) and my recent foray into Historical Romance novels (the Bridgerton series, Wallflowers series, plus a few others). Those have generally ranged Regency and later. Plus, the whole TWC verse. All mashed together.

(This is a bit long plus discussing spoilers so putting under a cut!)

I’ll get to Milton but I want to talk about N’s role and my interpretation on that line ("Milton was everything I wasn't. I admired him for that a great deal”). N being first born, being next in line for the title that Papa Sewell held, likely had a lot of pressures - to marry well, continue on the line, be head of household - and with that, I assume there was a marriage mart of sort, and well, had to be part of a desirable match. (I think that’s why the rejected the idea of being perfect in b2. That and the part of their past that haunts them)

So, really, my thought on Milton being everything they weren’t makes me wonder - was Milton more free? Was able to more himself, be true to who he was? They could choose their path (and were happy with joining the Navy - a common path for the children that came after the first).

N’s personality that we see now isn’t much different than they were then. And they seemed rather lovely, as did Milton by how N reveres them. A close and happy set of siblings.

As for favorite, definitely get where you’re coming from! But I do think that the siblings were both loved by their parents (who weren’t a love match and especially with them both helping each other when marrying), and that one wasn’t favored over the other, necessarily. But that they both has different sets of circumstances (Lord Nathaniel Sewell / Lady Natalie Sewell to be - and their title would depend on what Papa Sewell’s title was vs . Captain Milton Sewell. Don’t quote me on this, I just wanted to type their names out) … N taking on their households, Milton needing to find their path. And with that, I imagine their relationships with their parents may have varied but still both loved.

I just need to know so much more! I want to know everything about the Sewell family.

The idea that uni protesters are "elitist ivy-league rich kids larping as revolutionaries" on Twitter and Reddit and even here is so fucking funny to me if you actually know anything about the student bodies at these unis. Take it from someone who's going to one of the biggest private unis in the US, 80% of the peers I know are either from the suburbs or an apartment somewhere in America, children of immigrants, or here on a student visa. I've heard about one-percenter students, but I've never met one in person. Like, don't get me wrong, the institution as a whole is still very privileged and white. I've talked with friends and classmates about feeling weird or dissonant being here and coming from such a different background. But in my art program, I see BIPOC, disabled, queer, lower-income students and faculty trying to deconstruct and tear that down and make space every day. So to take a cursory glance at a crowd of student protesters in coalitions that are led by BIPOC & 1st/2nd-gen immigrant students and HQ'd in ethnic housings and student organizations and say, "ah. children of the elite." Get real.

Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)

Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!

You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):

Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.

Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.

If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(

If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!

If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.

He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.

Been having thoughts about ISAT’s ending for a while now. The ending is extremely swell and I love it a lot, but I’ve been haunted by a flash assumption I had late in Act 5

!!! SPOILERS FOR ACT 5 AND BEYOND !!!

Between the resolution with The King and up until the final fight, I had assumed Siffrin was going to die? This would have been extremely cruel thematically but I’ve seen enough of these sorts of things that I wasn’t going to be shocked if it had happened. It didn’t, obviously, and the ending we got was wonderful, and I’m very happy that everyone made it out okay… but I’ve been rolling around the idea of Sif dying in my head. 

I don’t feel like it would be thematically incoherent? Thematically cruel, absolutely, but not completely out of line. 

Hear me out: The King is defeated, Vaugarde is saved, and Siffrin is now too sick and burnt out to continue. Vaugarde’s wish has been granted, and Siffrin, unable to go on, has to accept their own death, a real one this time, with no looping back. 

Siffrin not wanting everyone to leave can be granted, in a cruel, twisted way. They will never have to be left behind by their family, never have to say goodbye, since they can spend their final moments surrounded by them. The House’s balcony would provide an ample location as well, with The Island being visible just on the horizon. Siffrin can die, having completed their goal, surrounded by their family, seeing their homeland for one last time, and rest easy knowing that they were loved.

It would be a tragic end, but still an ending.

And wouldn’t this be exactly what Loop wanted?

King is dead, or at least dead enough. Country is saved, loops are over, and that weird clone copy debacle wrapped itself up nicely. The party can stick close to each other since they have a body to deal with, and Loop gets to have their family back. Everyone is alive, a Siffrin is alive. Everything is as it should be.
