Loki and the violence of physicality.

From the very start, Lokis experience with touch is about power & possession.

As a baby, he is taken from Jotunheim, Not rescued. he is handled like a stolen artifact, a trophy of war.

As a child, touch never seemed much about comfort, it was control. A hand meant to remind him where he stands, what he is allowed to be.

Thor, for all his love, is rough. Playful shoves, dragging Loki by the arm, knocking him over. It is familial, maybe, but it is still forceful.

In Asgard, when he is handled, it is with expectation. Servants dressing him, guards grabbing him, Odin guiding him into place. It is all directional touch movement imposed upon him.

Loki learns, very early, that touch is something that happens to him, not for him. That it is a way to move him into place, to contain him. Even when someone means well, it is still a form of control. Until TVA Loki, rarely has he been touched in a way that feels safe. That feels like choice.

when he falls, touch is punishment.

He is slammed by the Hulk, thrown by the avengers in battle.

Loki is bound when captured, muzzled, handcuffed, paraded.

when Loki grieves, no one really touches him with kindness. When he dies, it is by force: stabbed, choked, crushed.

Touch has only ever been about control, submission, violence, or restraint. So of course, Loki learns to be untouchable. He learns to be slippery, a trick of the light, a flicker. He makes himself untouchable before anyone can reach for him first.

Loki does not naturally touch others. When he does, it is intentional, weaponized, or performative.

Lokis hands hold weapons before they hold people, his illusions and projections: they make him untouchable even when he is standing right there. Romance? seduction? typically a tool. it is all performance.

Loki doesnt just avoid touch he redefines it, because if he is untouchable no one can take anything from him ever again. This is a man who has been handled his whole life, so what does he do? he becomes a man who is impossible to hold.

Loki does not seek comfort through touch, he does so through manipulation, words, through proving he is smarter than you. He does not ask for closeness, he makes himself something interesting, undeniable, that you will come to him.

Until TVA loki, if he touched you, it was to hurt you, to trick you, to control you. He touches to remind people he is now the one in control.

So, it's been a hot minute since I've had any real Quality Time™️ with Loki. I was feeling super disconnected for a while now (which could be for a number of reasons), but I could tell He's been trying to get my attention for probably a week or so now. Anyway, I finally sat down to have a chat with Them tonight when this happened:

Loki: *talks about how I need to let go and have fun*

Me: I can try but I make no promises.

Loki: Hmm, that is the trick, isn't it? Getting you to try.

Me: Yeah, I'm a pain.

Loki: Truly you are. But what fun would you be if you weren't?

I've always been curious - how exactly does it work, being a God and all? Do you hear Prayers like a weird sort of Telepathic telephone? Similarly; does your Chaos extend to the Natural sort - like the Chaos Theory for instance in regards to Weather? I seem to remember either in the Edda or Lokasenna you being able to produce Earthquakes, but is that just pure Myth?

"Mmm. What a thought-provoking question. I don't think each deity or pantheon has the same relationship with ...believers? Acolytes? Worshipers? It depends upon the affinity that mortals have with certain of their own qualities...and then they sort of cosmically calibrate themselves to whatever god or gods might reflect their needs best. It is really very symbiotic, even when we don't realize it. Even disciples who believe they are being punished for breaking various sacred rules...have some use for that kind of being. I would not go so far as to say that our worshipers create us, but they obdscute their own view of other higher forms and choose each of us us quite deliberately. So a Lokean might seek me out because my skepticism of...ahh, how shall I....yes, my skepticism of untouchable traditions, beings beyond reproach, and old stagnant ways....mortals with similar tendencies going to choose me, and also to communicate their needs with me by modeling my values. Our relationship will reflect that."

"I suppose that's rather abstract, but I don't feel I can speak for all of us in all worlds, all dimensions, unilaterally. Not now that I have actual, literal scope of infinity."

He breathes a wry laugh; it radiates in soft loamy waves from his being. The sound of a magpie's wings taking hasty flight; the sound of dry leaves underfoot in a deep obscure woodland. Like he's said, it suits him. It suits what he stands for and who he is.

"I will hear the prayers of people who are cunning and adaptable, not easily deterred, capable of returning in cycles to themselves even as everything changes, louder than I might hear the prayers of someone who better embodies my brother Thor, or Athena from Olympus, or the descendants of Abraham in their palmy deserts of Midgard. You could say it's more a feeling than something literally audible, and earnestness goes a long way."

Jade eyes glitter and he fights a smirk.

"Whatever do you mean by 'pure myth,' child? You can't possibly be accusing me of theatrics....or, heaven forbid, exaggeration?"
