I Lost Myself to Find You
Tw! a character thinks he's been drugged, strong depictions of someone feeling ill
Steve knew, he knew, it was a bad idea to come to school today. He had thought (ignorantly, stupidly,) that the effects of having his face beaten in and the horrors of almost dying to a fucked up paper-fortune-teller-monster would have faded away over the weekend. Apparently not. Of course not.
Stupid.
Now everything aches. It hurts more than Steve thinks it should. It hurts like heâs a walking livewire bruise. Like every muscle has torn apart and hurled itself back together with no care. He doesn't remember being so absolutely fucked yesterday.
It's pretty obvious that heâs in a bad way. Steveâs shuffling down the hallway like a zombie, arms curled around a suffering stomach that he doesn't even remember Johnathan socking. Not to mention the smell. Steveâs set to present as a beta and even he can smell how absolutely pathetic he is right now.
It's only second period and he longs to be back home with the covers pulled over his head.
Fuck it.
Steve turns around. OâDonnell can fuck herself; Steveâs insides are falling out and he's got priorities. His internal organs trying to eat each other has got to be more important than English class.
It's a long trek to his car parked at the far, desolate, corner of the lot. What stupid mountain was Nancyâs little brother going on about the last time he saw him? Card-something? Steve feels like that. Like heâs crawling lamb-like across some epic snowy mountain, about to collapse.
Where's his car?
Steve knows where he parked his car, but he doesn't see it in the lot. Or he thinks he doesn't; Steve can't see much of anything through the spots dancing in his vision. Maybe the swirling is making it harder to see than the spots are? Either way Steveâs got no idea how far away he is from the bimmer, lost amongst a swimming sea of metal.
He needs to sit down; to yell at his thoughts until they regroup.
Is he even in the parking lot anymore? fuck is he even in the parking lot? The swirling feeling is worse, now it's like heâs swaying on a giant seesaw crossed with a carrousel. Steveâs head feels heavy, like there is cotton and sand thumping around in there instead of brains and rational thoughts.
At least the spots in his vision are gone. If Steve focuses enough--despite his eyes mimicking a fuzzy camera lens zooming in and outâhe can see boldly colored evergreen leaves and icy moss. Yep, not in the parking lot.
Probably not a good idea to wander around in the snow blanketed woods with no jacket. The weather is cold enough that Steve could freeze!
WellâŠ
He could freeze if it didn't feel like a fire had been lit in his stomach and across his shoulders.
It's almost near dark, Hawkins is firmly in that time of year when the sun disappears early, but the sky remains dully lit. The shade cast by the trees Steve is trudging between dims the earth even further but everything seems so vivid to him that it almost doesn't matter.
It shouldn't still be this easy to see. It's almost like the preternatural senses that heâs heard come after presentation. Even Betas gain heightened senses, but Steve hasn't presented as one yet, so why is it so bright?
Suddenly it occurs to Steve that he might have been drugged.
Tommy did say he would get back at Steve for abandoning him; The really sad thing is that Steve can picture his used-to-be best friend slipping him something as payback. What would this even be? God, he hopes its not acid.
Steve knows what he has to do now, where he has to go.
Eddie can help
When you think about it, at first the idea seems utterly absurd, but Steve knows Eddie. Sure, the alpha is a major freak, but heâs also Hawkins Highâs most prominent (only) drug dealer. Heâs bought from Eddie. Every time Steve picked up the âparty favorsâ his friends pressured him into getting, Eddie would get this look on his face and tell Steve that he was always there if he had a bad trip.
And thatâs what this is right? It's just a bad tripâeven if it was potentially caused by the one guy he used to trust more than anybody else in the worldâbut now Steve actually has a plan! He just has to make it to Eddie!
Shockingly that might be easier to do than one might think. Very luckily Steve knows these woods and knows them well. In abrupt clarity Steve realizes the route he must have taken to get here and therefore the route he needs to take to get to Eddie.
If heâs in the woods he must have wandered south out of the Highschool parking lot, weaved between houses and the thin tree line, and eventually got himself into the woods proper. He doesn't think he took any turns, so if he just heads west, heâll either head straight to Forest Hills or pop back out on a road he can follow to get there.
After a small setbackâbecause he canât follow the sun to find westâSteve is on his way.
The hike through the frost and snow is still oddly easier than it should be. Steve feels like his body is running on fever and instinct. As he walks Steve absentmindedly starts to hum âOver the River and Through the Woodsâ under his breath, hoping familiar music will speed up the flow of time.
He can still see fairly well; well enough to see (and attempt to ignore) what seems like a little girl following him from close behind. Steve knows itâs probably just the ghosts of his foggy mind coming to haunt him but the idea of a young pup all alone in the woods makes something in him, ache.
Soon enough, she slips back into the shrouds of trees. The pup wonât answer when Steve calls for her; and though it hurtsâoh how it hurtsâSteve reasons he cannot stop and weep over the spirits conjured by his drug addled brain. Heâs almost there.
It should be startling how direct the path Steve took is but he doesn't care about that. Heâs almost there. Lights shimmer in the distance, if he listens closely, it's almost like he can hear the soft thrum of distant music permeating the forest floor.
Metallica.
Eddie.
The Munson trailer seems to rise from the freezing mist, welcoming and safe. Steve sees Eddieâs window aglow in the evening and a sigh of relief breaks free from his troubled chest. Steve knows Eddieâs trailer, his window (Eddie refused to sell anything worse than weed anywhere but at home), the certainty is a comfort.
Eddie promised he would help him, here Steve will be safe. Quickly but clumsily Steve flies like a moth to the soft window-light. All sense has left him now; Steve claws and whimpers at the window pathetically until it opens.
âHarrington?â Eddie sticks his head out to greet him, âWhat are you doing?â Steve whines at the harshness of the whisper. He knows it wasn't meant to be mean but it still feels upsetting somehow.
âEddie, I need helpâ the plea is pitchy and sad even to his own ears but still Steve presses on. âEddie, you promised!â
The poor alpha startles, sucks in a breath and leaps to settle the boy crying at his window.
âWoah, woah, woah!â Eddie flounders. âSteve, calm down, we can sort this out.â no matter how Eddie tries to sooth him Steve does not get a hold of himself. It takes several, long, anxious, moments before Eddie retreats back from the window.
Steve wails.
Why would Eddie leave? why when he said Steve could always come to him?
Steve has never felt so fragile before, He doesn't remember feeling this heartbreaking lonesomeness since maybe before high school. It could be just a culmination of every emotion he's felt and locked away because of the hell he was pulled into. it could be that this was just the last straw. Either way for some stupid reason he feels a small twinge of abandonment in his bruised heart.
All of a sudden arms envelop him in warmth and care.
"Hey, lets get you inside, okay Steve?" Eddie murmurs by his ear. "Jesus man, what are ya a space heater or something? You have your own vapor cloud." Steve doesn't think he was actually supposed to hear that part, but when he turns around, sure enough, a fine mist rises from his shoulders and trails after him like a sorrowful miasma.
how did that happen? When did that happen?
The Munson trailer is warmer and more comforting the anywhere else Steve has been in his entire life. Something rumbles deep contentedly in his chest; its so nice.
Eddie leads him over to a small couch covered in more through pillows on it than a couch thrice its size would need and Steve is glad to rest there.
"Okay man, what do you need?" Eddie questions when the other boy is settled in, "What can I do?"
Steve can't muster actual words but somehow the alpha understands. Swiftly Steve finds himself under a bundle of blankets to situate any way he wants while Eddie steps away once more. This time it isn't so bad; Steve still feels unhappy that Eddie isn't with him, however unlike last time Eddie had told Steve where he was going and was still in his line of sight as the Alpha goes to call his uncle.
"Hey Wayne" Steve hears Eddie greet his uncle. There is a brief back and forth about why Eddie is calling, and how "yes it is suspicious for you to call this late", before Eddie admits defeat. "look, You really cant get mad about this okay?" Eddie stresses into the phone. "I picked up another stray."
Another? but could that mean--
"I-I know Wayne," Eddie interrupts Steve's train of thought, "but I really gotta help my friend out okay? He's in heat."
The conversation continues at a steady murmur, but Steve can barely hear it, let alone make sense of the yeses and i-knows being passed back and forth.
Steve can't stay. He should have known taking advantage of someone's hospitality would have consequences. Here he is, a pathetic lump, on Eddies couch when he should be focusing on his omega! His omega in heat no less!
Steve struggles to free himself from the blankets and pillows he hadn't realized were completely surrounding him. Distantly he hears Eddie frantically tell his uncle he has to go and slam the handset back into the cradle as Steve almost tumbles to the floor.
"Hey! Hey! Steve what's wrong man?" Eddie manages to catch Steve by the shoulders holding him in place.
"No! Let me go!" Steve cries, thrashing in Eddies hold "You should be taking care of your omega!"
Steve nearly breaks free but Eddie wraps around him. now he's trapped in a hold more like a hug than a trap pushing him back into place.
"Well I don't know if we're quite there yet big boy, but that is what I'm trying to do!" The Alpha huffs.
"No you should be with him! He's the one in heat!" the cry pierces into the night, Its so sharp Steve is almost shocked it cam from his own mouth. Eddie makes a confused noise--that might have been a word if Steve was paying attention--he shifts his hold once more, putting Steve at arms length so he can look in his eyes.
"Steve!"
"What!" he shouts in return, Eddie looks deep in his eyes despite Steve's best efforts to look away.
"You're in heat." Eddie says it with such conviction it's startling. In fact Steve is so caught off guard that he goes limp enough to be laid back against the couch.
What--
Eddie coos at him softly, Tucking the blankets back around Steve, even going so far as to fluff a few of the pillows.
"oh honey," Eddie says sweetly as he brushes a hand along Steve's hair in a way he would normally despise, "You really didn't know? is this your first one?"
Steve nods against the alphas careful hand, taking it to nuzzle. Literally three hours ago--heck five minutes ago--if anyone had asked Steve if he was in heat he would have laughed in their face. Now the low, thrumming, ache has settled back in his gut and inclines him to think differently.
What else could this be really? well, he thought drugs, but hindsight and a safe place to rest vanishes the thought. looking back on the day all the cramps, the post-presentation senses, the fire that's settled within him, it all seems to make sense.
(a distant part of his brain--the one that will be embarrassed in a couple days time--tells him that the emotional sensitivity was also probably the result of his surprise presentation. That it was the natural, sudden shift, in hormones and pheromones effecting his already slightly addled brain)
"I don't want to leave, Eddie." Steve eventually sniffles against the warmth of the alpha. He reaches up to hold him gently and Eddie sinks into the hug.
"You don't have to go anywhere sweetheart. I'll look after you, I promise."
Later, after many cuddles and complaints from the new omega about how he "thought heats were supposed to be sexy", Steve will reflect on this week as probably the best one of his entire life. Up until that point of course. After all he has the rest of his life with the most caring alpha he's ever known ahead of him.

Oscar Nominations Predictions - November 2024
Yup it's that time of year again. Now that we are getting to the end of the year and I've seen more movies, let's see.
My predictions (in alphabetical order):
Best Picture:
Anora
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown*
Conclave
Dune Pt 2
Emilia Perez
Nickel Boys*
A Real Pain
Sing Sing
Wicked Pt 1
** most likely to be swapped out depending on how they go down.
Best Director:
Sean Baker (Anora) Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Denis Villenueve (Dune Pt 2. Definitely won't win but I think he'll be nominated). Not sure who the fifth person will be but probably someone directing a non-English film and/or a woman if the past few years continue the same pattern.
Best Actor:
Adrian Brody, Timothy Chalamet (for A Complete Unknown) Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, and idk about the fifth show but maybe Daniel Craig or Jesse Eisenberg?
Best Actress (most competitive race ATL):
Karla SofĂa GascĂłn (Emilia Perez), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Mikkey Madison (actually the only person I'm 100% confident about), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl). I'm going on a limb and guessing Saoirse Ronan might struggle to get in for The Outrun and I don't see Cynthia Erivo getting for Wicked, but I do see her being nominated at CC and Globes.
Best Supporting Actor:
Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Clarence Maclin (Sing Sing), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Denzel Washington (Gladiator II), and actually I'm going out on a limb and guessing that it might be one of the Anora guys but not sure which one. Or maybe Byran Tyree Henry for A Fire Inside? I don't see it going to Jeremy Strong for The Apprentice because of how contentious that movie is right now.
Best Supporting Actress:
Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Saoirse Ronan (Blitz, not The Outrun, and I think she'll compete in supporting), Zoe Saldana (Emilia Perez).
Best Original Screenplay:
Anora will probably win, but I think that actually if The Substance is going to be nominated anywhere other than Make Up, it'd be here. The Academy hates horror films for some reason but I'd like to see it get into something other than just Make Up.
Best Adapted:
Not sure what classifies here (is The Brutalist original or adapted?) so not sure. I think Sing Sing gets in here.
#lior liveblogs awards season#note: just because I think Grande might get in but Erivo won't is not what SHOULD happen#it is what I think is more LIKELY to happen#all of my Oscar predictions are that -- predictions or guesses -- not necessarily my personal choices#I haven't even seen all the movies on the Best Picture list bc some of them haven't come out yet but that's my guess#just based on patterns of how nominations have worked the past few years (there's usually at least one non-English film (Emilia Perez this#year)#the long historical epic (The Zone of Interest was both last year and there was also KOTFM#yeah I know Oppenheimer technically counts but I'd put that in...)#at least two blockbusters (Barbenheimer last year and both#Avatar 2 and Top Gun: Maverick the year before that#this year I think Dune 2 and Wicked Pt 1)#one small A24 film (Sing Sing this year and Past Lives last year)#and if there is an indie darling subversive comedy then that might end up there too or even win#(EEAAO the year before last Poor Things this past year and Anora this year))#but patterns can change so who knows?#the reason I think Grande might get in and Erivo will have a harder time is bc Best Supporting Actress is not that competitive this year#while Best Actress is maybe the most competitive race#also there is already an example of the academy being willing to nominate a supporting comedic role#over the lead with Barbie and Ryan Gosling getting nominated but not Margot Robbie#so they will do it#but I could be totally wrong it depends on how well Wicked does at the precursors

[5k] luke hughes swore he would never tell another soul and take his confession to the grave. that ends as an epic fail as he tells a really pretty girl his most embarrassing secret. luckily for him, she seems pretty eager to help him out.
series masterlist
.
It shouldnât be embarrassing, but it was. It really fucking was.
It wasnât always a big deal. When he was in high school, everybody was just like him. Or at least, most people were. HIs friend group were. And they would always talk about how fun college would be, how everything would change, how everyone grew up and just did it.Â
And then he went to college and nothing really changed. It was a bit embarrassing, it made his cheeks burn bright red whenever he spoke about it. But it also wasnât the most unbelievable thing. Between keeping his GPA up, his training regime and the countless games during the season, it wasnât shocking to anyone that he didnât have as much free time as movies liked to make it seem like.Â
But then he moved up. He went from being a kid with a dream to actually living that dream and beyond. A joke from his childhood became a reality when he found himself on the ice with his older brother, wearing the same jersey as his older brother. Suddenly, it was all real and intense and he was in it properly.Â
But, fuck, it was embarrassing that he was in the National Hockey League and he was a fucking virgin.
In theory, he knew it wasnât a big deal. It didnât change the way he played or his performance on the ice. It didnât affect his professional life in any way, shape or form. But it still made him want to curl up in a corner and shrivel his existence away whenever he thought about it too long.
And it wasnât like it was obvious. He wasnât announcing it to the world and rambling on about it in interviews. But the amount of jokes people made about women throwing themselves at his feet or having a turnstile of people in his bed felt like he might as well be.Â
The awkward laughs and strained smiles would only take him so far before someone caught on.Â
And that might have been the worst partâthe fact that nobody knew. Not his friends in high school nor the ones he made in college. None of his teammates. Not even his brothers (though, the idea of him even telling them whether or not he was a virgin was an experience he would like to avoid all together).Â
Nobody in the fucking world knew Luke Hughes was a virgin except him and, in a weird way, it was kind of fucking lonely.
Or at least, nobody else knew until he met you.
âŠ
The night he met you had been a few days after the Devils had been kicked out of the playoffs.Â
Despite the loss, Nico wanted one last team celebration to sign off a good season. Because yes, it fucking sucked that they were knocked out and it sucked they wouldnât be the ones to lift the Stanley Cup this year. But they still played well, they deserved to appreciate that, to appreciate each other.Â
And, on a more personal level, it was a chance to celebrate with the NHL team he could now call his home.
He was in the big leagues now. He was in the NHL and he was a professional hockey player and, by the power of some fucking superior being he did not know, he was lucky enough to share a team with at least one of his brothers.Â
It still felt like a dream.
And with that dream came the joys and perks of being a New Jersey Devilâlike not being IDâd in the bar the team commonly visited.Â
âTakinâ it all in?âÂ
He tore his eyes away from the surrounding bar to look at his brother, perched on the edge of the pool table Nathan and Kevin were currently competing on. He had been happy to just watch, observeâfor lack of better termsâtake it all in, like Jack assumed.Â
Instead, he just retorted with, âitâs a bar. Not much to take in that I havenât seen before.â
âOkay, college boy,â Jack snorted, his cheeks flushed the same shade of red as the vodka cranberries he had been drinking all night. âI meant the big leagues.â
Luke resisted the urge to snort. âAsk me again in a year when itâs actually sunk in.â
Something in Jackâs face softened. âIâm glad youâre here, Moose.â
His throat felt a little tight but he still smiled. âMe too.â
He had assumed that was the end of the conversation, but that was Lukeâs first mistake. He hadnât paid much attention to the way Jackâs eyes roamed around the bar, narrowed like he was looking for something or, in this case, someone.
âWhat do ya think about her?â
Luke blinked, looking at his brother with a confused glance before he followed his line of vision to some blonde settled against the wall on the other side of the bar.Â
âWhat about her?â
Jack shot him a look. âDo you think sheâs pretty?â
Luke hesitated, almost as though it was a trick question. âYes?â
Jackâs eyes narrowed. âYou donât sound convinced,â he commented. âSo, blonde isnât your type. What is then? Brunettes? Redheads? Miscellaneous?â
âNo, Iââ Luke frowned. âIâm surprised you even know what miscellaneous means.â
Jack punched his arm in response.Â
âWhy are you asking about my type?â Luke questioned, something that felt a lot like uncertainty bubbling in his stomach.
Jack let out a deep sigh, prolonging it to properly encapture his annoyance. âIâm trying to help you get laid, bud.â
Luke froze.Â
There was no way Jack could know. He knew that. He did. Logically, it was impossible for his brother to know he was a virgin when Luke had genuinely never admitted as much beyond the age of seventeen. But here he is, seemingly trying to find him someone to sleep with. There was no way he could know, there was no way Jack knewâ
âI mean, youâre in the fucking league now, bud. Milk it a little, have some fun!â Jack continued, lost in his own rambles to even notice the way Lukeâs shoulders sagged with relief. âIâm sure college was fun and all, but this is better!âÂ
Luke tried to let out a laugh. âI think Iâm alright for tonight.âÂ
Jack huffed out in annoyance. âDonât be a bore! Luke, youâre in the NHL. You just fucking played in the playoffs! Enjoy yourself, man.âÂ
âI am enjoying myself,â Luke countered.Â
âYouâve been drinking the same beer since we got here,â Jack snapped back with a knowing look. âAnd I know it tastes like shit because I did the exact same thing when I first ordered a drink here. Iâm trying to be your guru, help you avoid the mistakes I made.â
âMy guru,â Luke repeated with a snort. âMore like an unwanted Cupid.â
Jack rolled his eyes. âCâmonââ
âFocus on yourself.â
âItâs my duty as a brotherââ
âI am not staying to listen to this,â Luke grumbled, batting away his brotherâs hands as he began to make his way to the bar. As much as he hated to admit it, Jack was rightâthis beer tasted horrible and not even the tiny sips he had been taking were going to save it.Â
He settled himself on a free spot at the bar, his elbows placed on the slightly sticky countertop as he peered over to try find a bartender. He saw a few on the other side of the bar finishing off a few drinks and accepted the small wait, a little lost in his own thoughts and whether he wanted to try another drink instead of just settling for something non-alcoholic when a hand settled on his back.Â
âThere you are, babe!â
Luke frowned, turning around to find you staring right back at him with a grin on your face. Honestly, he was expecting to turn around and let the person realise they had made a mistake. But your smile remained on your face, though the wide eyes staring back at him were a little distressing.Â
âUh, I think youââ But he was cut off by another voice, a much deeper one this time.
âThis is your boyfriend?âÂ
The man was average height and fairly built, but that was all he had going for him. His shirt was definitely a size too small to make him look bigger and the chunky chain looked nothing short of tacky. And Luke may have been in his presence for less than thirty seconds, but the body spray was overwhelming and pungent and made him want to plug his nose.Â
Now, Luke may be a little slow but he isnât dumb.
He may be deeply confused by the sudden promotion to boyfriend from a stranger but it didnât take long for Luke to realise the wide, distressing eyes were a cry for help and the walking embodiment of Axe body spray in a tight shirt was the reason.Â
âUh, yeah!â Luke cleared his throat a little, his arm moving to wrap around your shoulders in the least awkward way he could possibly achieve. âSheâs my girl! Uh, girlfriend! Sheâs myââ His cheeks burned but he couldnât stop his mouth from moving. âSheâs my babe!âÂ
The man glanced between you and Luke for a few moments before rolling his eyes, muttering something under his breath about wasting his time before he disappeared into the throng of people crowded by the bar.Â
âWhat a dick,â you murmured and it almost made Luke jump when he remembered you were still beside him, that his arm was still around your shoulders. You turned around to look at him once you knew the other guy was gone, and your smile seemed softer now. âThank you for that, really. Youâre a lifesaver.â
âItâs no biggie,â Luke replied, cringing a little before he quickly continued. âThanks for giving me the honour of being your fake boyfriend.â
You snorted. âYeah, well, you have a friendly face. You looked like you would go along with it.â
His cheeks burned warmer. âThanks?â
âYouâre welcome,â you grinned before turning to settle in the spot next to him, fingers tapping on the bar counter. âLet me buy you a drink to thank you for your services?âÂ
Luke began shaking his head. âThat really isnât necessaryââ
âPlease,â you insisted, a softer expression on your face. âIt would make me feel better for dragging you into my scheme.â
âIââ He cleared his throat, hoping to some superior being that his face wasnât as red as it felt. âO-Okay.â
Your grin widened. âBrilliant. What do you want?âÂ
âA Coke.â
âReally?â
âYes?â
âOkay, no judgement, just surprised,â you said, leaning over the bar to place your drink order along with his before you turned back to the boy. âSo, do I at least get to know my fake boyfriendâs name?â
HIs lips twitched upwards. âLuke.â
âLuke,â you repeated before telling him your name, something gleaming in your eyes when you did. âSo, Luke, what brings you to a bar on a Monday night to drink Coke?âÂ
âIâm here with some work friends,â he lied easily, not really one to play the professional hockey player card (despite Trevorâs insistence that it was expected to be used for this reason exactly). âJust enjoying the night before we all head off for the summer.â
âHm, here with your work buddies but staying sober and standing alone at a bar,â you mused. âYouâre quite intriguing, Luke.â
âI think thatâs a compliment,â he murmured with a frown.Â
âIt is,â you assured him with a smile.
Luke opened his mouth to say something before the familiar voice of his brother reached him.Â
âLUKEY BOY IS GETTING SOME!â
He shut his eyes, muttering a list of curses under his breath before he finally looked at you with a sheepish expression. âIâm so sorry about him. Just ignore him, heâs a little drunk andââ
âHey, itâs fine,â you assured him with a laugh. âWork buddy?â
âMhm,â Luke confirmed with a nod. âAnd my older brother.â
âThat sounds like an intense work environment,â you commented.
âTell me about it,â he grumbled, but there was still a smile on his face. âI wouldnât blame you for making a run for it now while you have the chance. Jack will only get worse.â
You waved him off, smiling. âYour brother isnât scaring me off,â you assured him. âPlus, I said I was intrigued and Iâm enjoying talking to you. Makes it seem a lot more believable that youâre my boyfriend if that other dude is lingering around.âÂ
âYeah, totally,â Luke agreed, something warm bursting in his stomach at the fact you wanted to keep talking to him.Â
And despite what Jack and the others assume, nothing more happened between the two of you than just talking. It was bittersweet, in a way. Because Luke really enjoyed talking to you that night, even if he knew he would probably never see you again.Â
But it was nice and it replayed in his head a lot more than he cared to admit that summer.
âŠ
He assumed it was guaranteed that he would never see you again.Â
So, it was pretty shocking when he did, in fact, see you again at a house party held by one of the boys of all fucking places in the pre-season.
As the new season approached and the overwhelming realisation that he was about to enter his rookie season of the NHL hit him, Luke didnât even hesitate to accept the invitation for the âsmall get togetherâ with the boys. These were his teammates, these were the people he was going to have to trust and navigate on the ice with. It seemed like a nice idea to have a few chilled hangouts whilst training dragged everyone back to New Jersey.
What Jack and everyone else had failed to mention was the fact a âsmall get togetherâ did not just mean the team like he assumed. It meant a house full of people that Luke certainly didnât know or recognise, but seemed to know exactly who he was.Â
He was only slightly ashamed to admit that he clung onto Jackâs side as long as he could. But his brother was a social butterfly who liked to jump between different crowds and it was too much for Luke. Instead, he had settled near a couch where John and Kevin had been rambling away to each other when Jack suddenly appearedâout of thin airâwith a huge grin on his face.Â
âHey, Rusty, is that not your girl from the bar?â
Lukeâs brows furrowed together in confusion. âHuh?â
But Jack didnât say much, just nudging his little brother to look over his shoulder. His lips parted again, prepared to tell Jack that he was drunker than he expected him to be after a few beers, only to find the words stuck in the back of his throat when he turned around and saw you.
He had thought about you more than he cared to admit over the summer. Just random little flashes of the conversations you shared. It was stupid, and a little pathetic, but you just feltâŠdifferentâin the least cliche way possible.
It was almost embarrassing how quickly his cheeks just heated at the sight of you.Â
No, correction: it was really fucking embarrassing.Â
âAw, did Lukey invite his lilâ crush?â Jack teased, reaching out to mockingly pinch his cheeks but Luke batted his hand away just in time.
âShut up,â he grumbled before clearing his throat, turning to faze his brother again. âI didnât. IâI donât even know why she is here.â
Jack shot him a look. âGo on, then.â
Luke frowned. âWhat?â
âYou are actually clueless,â Jack grumbled under his breath before giving him a hearty shove. âGo talk to her!â
His eyes widened. âWhat?!â
âGo talk to her,â Jack repeated, not understanding the panic in his younger brother. âYou guys were hitting it off at the bar, whatâs the big deal? Maybe you can hook up with her again.â
âIââ He started before realising this was not the time to delve into the same argument they had had since the night at the bar. âItâs fine, she probably doesnât even remember me.â
His brother scoffed. âYouâre shitting me, right?â
Luke blinked. âNo?âÂ
âDude, she was all over you!â Jack insisted, giving him another shove that had him stumbling slightly. âGo!â
Luke could feel his cheeks heating up. âJackââ
âItâs my big brother duty to help you!â
Shove.
âJack, fuck off. Itâs not gonna happen.â
Shove.
âYes, it will. Stop being a coward.â
Shove.
âCan you stop? I am notââ
Shove.
âGo talk to her!â
Shove.
âNoââ
Except, the little shoves and lack of balance with the drinks he had been nursing through the night seemed to catch up on Luke. He stumbled back, his footing gone and his free hand reaching out to grasp Jack or something to stop him from falling. But it was too late. He was stumbling and his drink was sloshing and it went all overâ
You.Â
It went all over you because now you were right there, right in front of him, having just walked across the room to come and see him.
âOh shit,â Jack muttered from behind him.
You looked down at your shirtâyour very white shirt that now had some atrocious red stain splattered across the front from the cocktail John had made himâand stared in shock.Â
Luke felt his whole body curl in on itself, his face burning and his chest feeling oddly tight. âI am so sorryââ
But, to his fucking shock (because you seemed to shock him a lot, if he was honest), you looked up at him and laughed.Â
âUnlucky timing, huh?â You joked but Luke didnât feel like laughing.Â
âI canââ But he paused, not even sure what he was going to say.Â
âLiking the colour red a little too much there, Cherry!â A voice from somewhere in the crowdâLuke genuinely wasnât sure whereâcalled out and your face brightened.Â
âItâs a good thing I can pull it off!â You retorted, unfazed by the name.Â
Cherry.Â
Usually, Luke would chalk it up to his memory being fairly shit and the months that had passed since that night in the bar making him confuse your name for something else. Except, the boy had practically relived that night in his head on a constant loop. Every word. Every sentence. Every second of it.Â
Pathetic? Yes.
Helpful? Probably not in any way, shape or fucking form except for the fact he was certain your name was not Cherry. He was more than certain. At least, he was certain that wasnât the name you had told him.Â
There were so many logical and simple reasons, he knew that deep down. But right now, Luke was embarrassed and flustered and he had this horrible inkling that you told him a fake name in case you thought he was a creep at the bar like the guy he saved you from andâ
Yeah, Luke really didnât like the idea of that. He didnât like the idea of being paired in a category with that man. And he certainly didnât like the idea that he made you uncomfortable enough to give him a fake name, even if he had given you no real reason to do otherwise.Â
Someone pushed through the crowd as Luke continued to spiral in his own thoughts, unable to even get a coherent sentence out when Nico glanced between you and him. He let out a sigh, shaking his head as he offered you an apology before he turned to Luke.
âYou can show her where the bathroom is, right?âÂ
And, fuck, he really thought this was the closest he could reach to ever feeling something close to hatred towards his captain.
Luke nodded his head, unable to get a word out and nodded towards the stairs.Â
You seemed to catch his hint well enough as you turned to head towards the stairs. Until your hand was reaching back, taking his in your grasp and intertwining your fingers together and Lukeâs brain short circuited all over again.
âGet it, Moose!â
Jack was pretty high on that almost-hate list too.
Luke felt like his body was on autopilot as he moved towards the stairs, letting you lead him up with your hands still connected until you reached the top. You looked at him expectantly and he led you towards the bathroomâone of the larger ones because he thought he would die if he was trapped in a small, enclosed space with you after he just spilled his drink all over you.
He opened the door, flicking the light on before stepping aside and letting you head inside. Except, the world seemed to have something against him, you dragged him into the bathroom behind you, your hands still connected, and grinned at him.
âHelp a girl out?âÂ
Luke cleared his throat but nodded.Â
He tried not to think too hard when you eventually dropped his hand. He tried not to think too hard when you locked the bathroom door. He tried not to think too hard as you glanced at him through the mirror.Â
And he was doing well until you went and pulled your shirt over your head.Â
His eyes widened, a spluttered noise of surprise leaving his lips as his eyes instantly snapped to the ceiling. But it was useless, he could already feel his blush crawling down his neck and burning hot.
âRelax,â you laughed. âIâm not giving you the full show. Just need to get this stain out.âÂ
âMhm,â he hummed but his eyes remained on the ceiling.Â
âLuke?â
âYes?â
âAre you okay?â
âUh huh.â
You let out a hum, like you didnât quite believe him but you didnât seem to push further. Instead, he heard the tap turn on and the water started running and suddenly, the bigger bathroom didnât feel big enough.
âIâm not a creep!â He blurted out.
You paused. âIs that why you are staring at the ceiling? To prove you arenât a creep?â
âNo, wellââ He cut himself off and let out a deep breath. âNo, I justâŠyour friend called you Cherry down there. You gave me a different name. I justâŠdidnât want you to think you had to give me a fake name because I was a creep. Granted, you donât owe me anything but I just wanted to assure youââ
âLuke?â
He swallowed hard. âYeah?âÂ
âI donât think youâre a creep. And I didnât lie about my name either,â you said, your voice a little softer this time. âPeople just call me Cherry.âÂ
And for a boy who ate, lived and breathed a sport that classically gave stupid nicknames to everyone and everything, he had never felt quite this dumb.
âOh.âÂ
âAre you going to look at me now?âÂ
He waited for a moment. And then another. And then, before he chickened out of it, he lowered his gaze until he met yoursâand didnât let his eyes wander any further.Â
âYouâre an interesting boy,â you mused, tilting your head to the side.
His brows furrowed together. âThank you?â
You grinned at his response before you turned back to the sink, seamlessly continuing to scrub your shirt under the running tap.Â
Luke watched you for a few moments, trying to just stew in the silence and let you do your work. But the seconds kept ticking by and the silence was becoming more stifling and there was only so much he could handle before he wanted to rip his eyes out.Â
âIâm sorry about my brother, by the way,â he said when he couldnât think of anything else to say. âHeâs a lilâ enthusiastic but he means no harm.âÂ
âHe seems quite desperate to get you laid,â you noted, your eyes briefly finding him in the mirror again. âA lot of your friends do.â
His cheeks burned again. âThey do that with everyone. They just like to be wingmen, you know?âÂ
Your eyes narrowed slightly on him. âBut it makes you uncomfortable.âÂ
You say it like a fact, not a question.Â
Luke choked a little. âWellââ
âWhy not just tell them to back off?â You questioned and Luke welcomed the fresh, bitter twinge of embarrassment that washed over him.
âBecause they would ask questions,â he said with a shrug of his shoulders. âItâs just easier to let them mess about.âÂ
You looked intrigued now. âWhy?â
Luke shifted under the intensity of your gaze. âBecause then they would ask why I didnât want to hook up with anyone.âÂ
You raised your brows. âNot a one-night stand kind of man?â
And honestly, he should have just cut the conversation there. He should have deflected the topic onto something else or gave some vague answer. Hell, even telling you to mind your own business was a better answer. But the alcohol made him feel buzzed, your presence was overwhelming andâfor the first time in his lifeâLuke found himself blurting out the words he swore he would take to the grave.
âBecause Iâm a virgin.âÂ
You blinked. And he fucking waited for it.Â
He waited for you to laugh. He waited for you to laugh and howl and cackle at his pathetic admission. To mock him, to tease him, to make him feel worse than he already felt. He waited and waited and waited.Â
And it never came.
âAnd you canât tell them that?â You questioned.
âI, uh,â Luke shook his head, his stomach somersaulting inside him in the worst ways possible. âNo, itâs a littleâŠtaboo in my line of work.âÂ
You turned to actually look at him instead of gazing at him in the mirror. âAre you a sex worker?â
Luke spluttered, shaking his head. âWhat? No! No, IâŠIâm a hockey player.âÂ
You frowned a little. âHockey players canât be virgins?âÂ
âWell, itâs not like a set rule but like,â he paused, waving his hands around like that explained everything. But you still looked confused and Luke knew he had to keep talking. âEveryone just kinda expects hockey players to be some kind ofâŠsex god. Or something. I donât know. All I know is that itâs not really common to be a virgin in the league.âÂ
âOkay,â you said, crossing your arms over your chestâwhere you still stood in only a bra covering yourself. âSo, like, are you a virginâŠby choice?â
âOh my god,â Luke groaned, bringing his hands to cover his face before it got even more red.
âI donât mean it in a bad way!â You assured him. âI was just curious.â
âNobody was supposed to know,â Luke grumbled into his hands, but you seemed to understand him well enough.
âI wonât tell a soul,â you promised.
But the damage was done and Luke wanted nothing more than for the floor to open up and drag him into the depths of the Earth.
He needed to get out of this bathroom. He needed to get out and go downstairs, rush through a flurry of goodbyes to the team before he quickly escaped and headed home where he could hide his embarrassment in a large tub of mint chocolate chip ice cream that certainly wasnât in his meal plan.Â
He just needed to turn around, unlock the door and slip out before you had the chance toâ
âWhat if I helped you?â
Yeah, that was not what he expected.
His hands dropped from his face as he stared at you, his expression almost blank except for the confusion shining in his eyes. âHuh?â
âWhat if I helped you?â You repeated.
âHelped me with what?âÂ
âBeing a virgin,â you said with a shrug. âIt seems like itâs really important to you, or something. And I think you are bigging it up in your head a little more than necessary. Maybe you just need someone to give you a helping hand, you know? Guide you through it, help you learn. No pressure, yeah?â
He blinked. âAndâŠyou would do that?â
âYeah, why not,â you answered honestly with a shrug of your shoulders. âYou intrigue me, Luke.â
âI intrigue you,â he repeated slowly, and he didnât know whether to laugh or cry.
âItâs not a bad thing to be intriguing.â
âIt is when you make it sound like Iâm some kind of experiment.â
You flashed him a softer smile and something in his chest eased a little. âYou donât have to say yes, it was just a suggestion. JustâŠa new friend helping her new friend out.â
New friend.Â
Luke swallowed. âAndâŠwhat would you gain from this?â
You sighed, shrugging your shoulders again. âHonestly? Iâve had my fair share of disappointing experiences in bed by guys who think they are sex gods. Call it a gift to womankind if I help at least one guy be competent and capable in bed.âÂ
He blinked. âRight. Gift to womankind. Thatâs me.â
You snorted. âJust think about it, yeah? Obviously, you can go about with whatever you are doing. Just a suggestion to make a casual thing out of it, to help take the stress away. Itâs your choice, Luke.âÂ
It was his choice.Â
He knew it was his choice and, despite knowing little about you, some stupid part of him trusted that you were being genuine. You were odd but you were sincere, and he knew your offer was sincere too. If he took you up on it, you would help him out. If he declined, you wouldnât push the matter any further and just move on in your life.Â
No more words were exchanged after that, the offer lingering and the tap still running as the red stain showed no signs of budging under the soap and cold water. He knew he didnât have to give you an answer there and then.Â
But the worst part was that Luke was pretty fucking sure he knew what his answer was the first time the offer left your lips.
And he pretty sure the remaining stain on your shirt was some sort of bad omen from the universe that already liked to tease him, but he couldnât bring himself to care.
He was fucking done being a twenty year old virgin and you were his solution to the problem.

the campfire crackled merrily, casting flickering shadows on the faces of your friends huddled around it. laughter danced in the air, punctuated by the occasional chirp of a cricket.Â
everyone except you and the boy sprawled on a log opposite you, a scowl permanently etched on his face. nishimura ni-ki.Â
camping trips with your friends were supposed to be fun, a chance to unwind, but with your nemesis by your side, it felt more like a forced march into enemy territory.
the animosity has started innocently enough. you and ni-ki, along with your friends, had embarked on a beach trip determined to build the most epic sandcastle the world had ever seen. hours were poured into sculpting elaborate moats, towering turrets, and intricate sand sculptures. victory was within reach, your masterpiece nearing completion, when disaster struck. a rogue wave, rolled in, obliterating your creation in a single, foamy swipe.
grief turned to rage, and you, fueled by a sugar crash from a previously consumed ice cream cone, pointed the finger of blame at ni-ki. you claimed he'd jinxed the project with his "terrible sandcastle feng shui." ni-ki, ever the provocateur, countered that your "overly ambitious moat design" was structurally unsound. the blame game escalated, escalating into a full-blown sand throwing fight that left everyone covered in a gritty mix of sand and saltwater.
two years later, the incident remained a running joke within your friend group. the mere mention of "sandcastle feng shui" could send you both into a fit of giggles (or, depending on the day, simmering resentment which happened to be today).Â
a mischievous grin spread across sunoo's face, the self-proclaimed "king of fun." "alright everyone, time for the foraging challenge!" he announced, pulling a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. "i've paired you all up to go gather ingredients for our stew!"
a collective groan arose, except from sunoo and heeseung, who were already whispering excitedly about wild herbs. the paper crackled in sunoo's hands as he unfolded it dramatically.
you perked up, eager to escape the suffocating tension between you and ni-ki. maybe a solo scavenging mission wouldn't be so bad. but as sunoo started assigning pairs, your stomach lurched.
"since we have an even number, the last team will be..." sunoo scanned the group, his eyes landing on you and ni-ki. a mischievous glint sparked in them. "...together."
a collective gasp arose from your friends, a mix of amusement and pity for your predicament. ni-ki, however, didn't miss a beat. he shot you a smug smirk, his eyes gleaming with a challenge.
"great," you muttered, sarcasm dripping from your voice. "just what i always wanted, a foraging partner with the survival instincts of a goldfish."
ni-ki scoffed. "says the one who gets lost in a grocery store."
memories of that disastrous shopping trip with your mom flooded your mind. you gritted your teeth.
"at least i won't accidentally set the forest on fire trying to light a campfire," you retorted, referencing a camping trip gone slightly wrong from a year back.
ni-ki's smirk faltered for a split second, a flicker of annoyance crossing his features before returning full force. "unlike you, i actually know how to tell an edible plant from a poisonous one."
"oh please, spare me the mr. nature act," you shot back, standing up and grabbing your backpack. "let's just get this over with. before you scare away all the edible plants with your bad attitude."
ni-ki rose from his log with a mocking bow. "after you, princess."
you rolled your eyes, the familiar bickering a bitter comfort in this unwelcome alliance. as you walked past your friends, you heard sunghoon mutter under his breath, "may the odds be ever in your favour." you shot him a glare, wishing for nothing more than to prove him wrong.Â
the forest stretched out before you, promising a foraging adventure filled with snarky remarks, petty competition, and maybe, just maybe, a grudging respect for your unlikely partner.
the trail wound deeper into the woods, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves overhead. the air grew thick with unspoken words, the silence punctuated only by the crunch of twigs underfoot and the occasional chirp of a bird.
"shouldn't you be skipping ahead, searching for your precious berries?" you finally snapped, unable to bear the awkward tension any longer.
"only if you promise not to poison yourself with the first wild mushroom you find, pipsqueak," ni-ki retorted, a playful glint in his eyes.
you scoffed, rolling your eyes. "at least i can tell the difference between food and foliage."
just then, you skidded to a halt, hand flying up to point. "look!"
ni-ki nearly bumped into you, surprised by your sudden stop. he followed your gaze and spotted a fawn grazing a few metres off the trail. its large, innocent eyes looked back at them curiously.
a genuine smile, devoid of their usual antagonism, softened ni-kiâs features. "aww, isn't that cute?"
"hold that thought," you whispered, excitement bubbling in your chest. you fumbled with your phone, eager to capture the adorable creature on camera.
ni-ki chuckled, a hint of amusement in his voice. "don't take all day. we're not exactly bffs on a nature walk here."
you stuck your tongue out at him playfully, focusing on getting the perfect shot. suddenly, a bloodcurdling shriek tore from your throat.
ni-ki whipped around, heart hammering in his chest. he saw you flailing your arms wildly, phone clattering to the ground. without a second thought, he sprinted towards you, fear momentarily overriding his usual animosity.
"what happened?" he gasped, skidding to a halt beside you.
"b-bug!" you stammered, pointing at a nearby leaf. "giant, horrible bug!"
ni-ki followed your shaky finger and let out a snort of laughter. perched on the leaf was a large beetle, no doubt intimidating to someone with a bug phobia, but far from the monstrous nightmare you'd made it out to be.
"seriously, that's it?" he doubled over, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. "you screamed like a banshee over a little beetle?"
you glared at him, cheeks burning with a mixture of embarrassment and lingering fear. "it was huge! and it tried to bite me!"
ignoring your protests, ni-ki sauntered over to the leaf, his amusement evident. he poked the beetle with a stick, earning a disgruntled hiss in response.
suddenly, his laughter died in his throat. the seemingly harmless beetle, disturbed by his prodding, lunged at him with surprising speed. he yelped, leaping back with a comical yelp, tripping spectacularly over a protruding root in the process.
the force of his fall sent him tumbling backwards, straight into you. with a startled cry, you lost your footing and the two of you went careening down a steep slope, a tangled mess of limbs and flying leaves.
the world became a blur of green and brown before you landed with a thud in a small clearing at the bottom. you groaned, blinking away spots as you sat up, taking stock of your surroundings. ni-ki lay sprawled a few feet away, groaning dramatically.
"well, this is just great," you muttered, brushing dirt off your clothes. you glanced at ni-ki, a flicker of amusement tugging at the corners of your lips despite the throbbing pain in your arm.
he sat up slowly, sheepish grin replacing his earlier smirk. "looks like we both owe that little beetle an apology, huh?"
the amusement in your eyes quickly morphed into pure exasperation as reality settled into you. you had no clue where you were.Â
"are you kidding me, nishimura?!" you suddenly yelled, throwing your hands up in the air. "you tripped us both over a bug! how clumsy can you possibly get?"
said boy winced at your outburst, the playful glint in his eyes fading. "hey, it wasn't exactly graceful," he mumbled, dusting himself off. "but at least we're not hurt, right?"
"not hurt? we just tumbled down a freaking hill! and for what? because you couldn't resist poking a bug with a stick?"
"alright, alright," he placatingly raised his hands. "let's just calm down. the good news is, i can recognise this part of the woods. we should be able to find our way back to the trail pretty easily."
you eyed him sceptically. "how can you possibly be sure? this whole forest looks the same!"
he puffed out his chest, a hint of his usual arrogance returning. "trust me, pipsqueak. i have a good sense of direction. just follow me."
you gritted your teeth, the anger simmering just beneath the surface. given the choice, you wouldn't have trusted a lost puppy to lead you back, let alone your nemesis with a questionable sense of direction. however, with no other options, you reluctantly trailed behind him.
minutes turned into what felt like hours. the scenery seemed to repeat itself endlessly, a maze of identical trees and sun-dappled paths. panic started to gnaw at your insides.
"nishimura," you said through gritted teeth, "are we sure we're not going in circles?"
he stopped abruptly, a frown etching his face. he pulled out his phone, his expression darkening as he stared at the screen. "damn it. no signal."
your blood ran cold. "what do you mean no signal?"
"there's no cell reception out here," he admitted sheepishly. "i guess i was wrong about knowing the way back."
you stared at him, incredulous. "you got us lost, and now we can't even call for help? you are the most irresponsible person i've ever met!"
he held up his hands defensively. "whoa, hey! it was an accident! we'll figure something out, okay? just calm down."
but calm was the last thing you felt. lost, angry, and scared, you glared at ni-ki, a fierce determination replacing the fear. "we will figure this out," you declared, voice shaking with repressed anger. "but for now, shut up and follow me. maybe i have a better sense of direction than you think."
the forest floor crunched under your feet as you marched ahead, a newfound resolve hardening your features. gone was the bickering banter, replaced by a tense silence punctuated only by the occasional rustle of leaves in the breeze. ni-ki followed close behind, a sheepish silence replacing his usual bravado.
you scanned the surroundings, searching for any landmark, any sign that might lead you back to the familiar trail. the dense foliage seemed to mock your efforts, the towering trees offering no clues in their uniformity. doubt gnawed at the edges of your determination, but the thought of relying on ni-ki was far worse.
"we need to find higher ground," you finally muttered, remembering a survival tip you'd once read. "maybe we can get a better view from up there."
ni-ki nodded curtly, his earlier arrogance replaced by a hint of worry. together, you pushed through the undergrowth, searching for any sign of an incline. after what felt like an eternity, you stumbled upon a rocky outcrop, its jagged surface a stark contrast to the smooth earth around it.
scrambling up the rocks, you emerged onto a small, uneven plateau. taking a deep breath, you scanned the horizon, hoping for a glimpse of the familiar smoke plume rising from the campsite. but all you saw was a seemingly endless expanse of green, the trees blurring together in a dizzying kaleidoscope.
disappointment crashed over you, heavy and suffocating. you slumped down onto a smooth rock, the anger slowly draining away, leaving behind a cold dread. lost, with no way to contact anyone, a shiver ran down your spine despite the warm afternoon sun.
"great," you muttered, voice devoid of its earlier fire. "just brilliant."
a moment of heavy silence passed before ni-ki spoke, his voice uncharacteristically subdued. "look, i messed up, okay? i should have paid more attention, and i shouldn't have been so cocky."
you didn't respond, staring blankly at the endless sea of trees.
he continued, his voice softer now. "but freaking out isn't going to help us. we need to work together on this."
he was right, of course. but the idea of trusting him after his colossal blunder left a bitter taste in your mouth. yet, there were no other options.
with a sigh, you finally met his gaze. "fine," you conceded grudgingly. "but if we ever get out of this, i'm never letting you live this down."
a flicker of a smile played on his lips, a hint of his usual defiance returning. "deal. now, how about we put our survival skills to the test, pipsqueak? together."
the animosity was still there, simmering just beneath the surface. but in the face of you predicament, a fragile truce had been formed. you weren't friends, not by a long shot. but for now, you were stuck with each other, and survival depended on a begrudging cooperation.
as the golden light of the afternoon began to fade, long shadows stretched across the forest floor, deepening the gloom beneath the dense canopy. the chirping of birds had been replaced by the eerie calls of nocturnal creatures, sending shivers down your spine.
the initial anger you felt towards ni-ki had morphed into a gnawing fear. the realisation that you were truly lost, with no way to contact anyone, settled in your stomach like a lead weight.
your breaths came in ragged gasps, the realisation of your situation finally hitting you with full force.
tears welled up in your eyes, blurring your vision. a choked sob escaped your lips, quickly escalating into a full-blown panic attack. hyperventilating, you clutched your chest, the world seeming to shrink around you.
suddenly, a hand landed gently on your shoulder. you flinched, expecting another snarky remark from ni-ki. but instead, his voice was soft, laced with concern.
"hey, hey," he soothed, his hand moving to wipe away a stray tear that traced its way down your cheek. "it's okay. we'll be alright."
his touch, surprisingly gentle, sent a jolt through you. you were so used to your constant sparring that this sudden tenderness was completely disarming.
"we just need to calm down," he continued, his voice low and calming. "we can't think clearly if you're panicking. look at me."
hesitantly, you met his gaze. his eyes, usually sparkling with mischief, were now filled with a genuine concern you hadn't seen before.
"we'll find our way back," he promised, his voice firm but reassuring. "the sun will rise again in the morning, and with daylight, everything will seem clearer. we'll figure out a plan then."
his words, surprisingly, had a calming effect. you took a deep, shaky breath, forcing yourself to focus on the rhythm of your inhalations and exhalations. slowly, the panic began to recede, leaving you drained but a little hopeful.
together, you searched for a suitable spot. you found it nestled under the sprawling branches of an ancient oak, its thick trunk offering a sense of security. the ground beneath it was clear of debris, providing a relatively comfortable place to sit.
ni-ki helped you gather fallen leaves and twigs, creating a makeshift cushion. you settled onto it, your body trembling slightly despite the warmth of the setting sun.
he sat down beside you, a respectful distance separating your bodies. the air crackled with an awkward silence, a stark contrast to your earlier bickering.
"thank you," you finally whispered, surprised by the words leaving your lips.
he offered a small smile. "for what?"
"for...not being a jerk," you mumbled, embarrassed.
he chuckled softly, a sound devoid of mockery. "seems like we both have to learn to cooperate sometimes, pipsqueak."
you couldn't help but let out a weak smile, a small flicker of warmth returning to your chest. maybe, just maybe, there was a sliver of humanity beneath ni-ki's cocky exterior. as the last rays of sunlight dipped below the horizon, plunging the forest into darkness, you leaned back against the rough bark of the oak, a strange sense of calm washing over you.Â
you weren't friends, not by a long shot. but for now, in the face of the unknown, you had each other. and perhaps, just perhaps, this forced cooperation might lead to something more, something you weren't quite ready to name.
the forest floor was a tapestry of inky black shadows under the cloak of night. the initial panic had subsided, replaced by a gnawing hunger that rumbled in your stomach. you glanced at the pile of foraged mushrooms and roots nestled beside you, a meagre dinner at best.
"so," ni-ki drawled, his voice barely a whisper in the stillness. "any idea how to build a fire with those twigs?"
you scoffed. "as if you could tell a pinecone from a pile of leaves."
he shot you a mock glare. "says the one who screamed at a beetle."
you swatted his arm playfully, surprised at the almost friendly gesture. "alright, alright. i may have overreacted a bit."
a flicker of amusement danced in his eyes. "a bit? pip squeak, you practically launched yourself into orbit."
despite the teasing, a small smile tugged at the corner of your lips. you fumbled with the meagre tinder you'd gathered, frustration building. just as you were about to give up, a gentle hand reached for yours.
"here," he murmured, taking the twigs from your grasp. "let me show you."
with surprising dexterity, he built a small, precarious structure of leaves and twigs. you watched in fascination as he coaxed a spark from a flint and steel you hadn't even noticed him carrying. soon, a tiny flame flickered to life, growing steadily into a small but comforting fire.
a sense of peace, however fragile, settled between you as you roasted the meagre mushrooms and roots over the flames. the silence wasn't antagonistic anymore, filled instead with the crackling fire and the occasional chirping of crickets.
"so," you started hesitantly, "what made you decide to learn survival skills?"
he shrugged, poking a particularly stubborn mushroom with a stick. "always good to be prepared, you know? never know when you might end up stranded in the middle of nowhere with a drama queen for company."
you threw a playful punch at his arm, the sting of your earlier animosity fading. "hey, at least i don't trip over bugs."
he chuckled, the sound surprisingly warm. "touché, pipsqueak."
as you ate your dinner, you found yourself stealing glances at him. in the flickering firelight, his face seemed softer, less arrogant. you realised with a jolt that his presence, although unexpected, wasn't actually that bad. maybe this forced cooperation was revealing a side of ni-ki you hadn't seen before.
the night wore on, the stars twinkling coldly above. the fire had long since died, leaving behind a fading warmth that couldn't compete with the growing chill. you shifted uncomfortably, the hard ground digging into your back. a shiver wracked your body, the thin jacket doing little to ward off the creeping cold.
out of the corner of your eye, you saw ni-ki shift too, his shoulders slumped against the tree. he let out a barely audible sigh, his breath misting in the cool air.
neither of you spoke, but a silent understanding hung in the air. you were both miserable, the bitter taste of rivalry a distant memory compared to the immediate need for warmth.
with a hesitant movement, you inched closer to the tree trunk, hoping to find a slightly more comfortable position. almost imperceptibly, ni-ki did the same. your shoulders brushed, a jolt of surprise shooting through you. he didn't move away, and after a moment, you leaned in slightly, seeking a sliver of shared warmth.
his arm was close now, separated by only the thin layer of your jacket. you stole a glance at him, expecting a sarcastic remark or a playful jab. but his eyes were closed, his face etched with fatigue.
hesitantly, you reached out, stopping just before your hand touched his arm. he stirred slightly, a low murmur escaping his lips. taking a deep breath, you rested your hand lightly against the worn fabric of his jacket, just below his elbow.
he didn't flinch. instead, he seemed to relax a fraction more, his arm moving ever so slightly to brush against yours.
in the silence broken only by the rustle of leaves and the occasional hoot of an owl, you found a strange comfort. maybe it was the shared misery of the situation, maybe it was the unexpected friendly(?) atmosphere that had sprung up between you. whatever it was, the tension had melted away, replaced by a fragile sense of trust.
sleep claimed you slowly, the warmth of your shared body heat a welcome haven against the encroaching chill. you didn't fall asleep with the intention of being close, but in the quiet intimacy of the night, you found a solace you hadn't expected. as you drifted off, a single thought flickered through your mind: maybe this forced adventure wouldn't be so bad after all.
the first sliver of sunlight, faint and tentative, peeked through the dense canopy, painting delicate stripes across ni-ki's eyelids. he stirred, a low groan escaping his lips as the ache in his back made itself known. he cracked one eye open, then the other, blinking against the sudden brightness.
his breath hitched. you were nestled against him, your head resting on his chest. your arms were wrapped tightly around him, one hand burrowed into the thin fabric of his shirt. his chin rested on the crown of your head, his heart hammering a frantic rhythm against his ribs.
he had absolutely no memory of this happening. had you gotten cold in the night and sought his warmth instinctively? the thought sent a warmth of its own blooming in his chest, a warmth at odds with the chill of the morning air. he was utterly captivated. you looked peaceful, your normally sharp features softened in sleep, a light dusting of pink staining your cheeks.
just as he was about to lose himself in the unexpected sight, your eyes fluttered open. they met his gaze, and a slow, mischievous smile spread across your face.
"good morning, sleepyhead," you murmured, your voice thick with sleep.
ni-ki's cheeks flushed crimson. "m-morning," he stammered, his voice rough from disuse. he tried to disentangle himself from your hold, feeling ridiculously flustered by your closeness.
"nope," you declared playfully, tightening your grip. "this is actually really comfortable. don't move."
he froze, his cheeks burning hotter than ever. his mind raced, torn between wanting to maintain this unexpected closeness and wanting to bolt. a small chuckle escaped your lips, the sound vibrating against his chest.
"relax, drama king," you said, your voice soft. "we're not exactly cuddling in a meadow filled with daisies."
he couldn't help but let out a small laugh himself. the tension started to ease, replaced by a warmth that had nothing to do with the rising sun. slowly, he re-wrapped his arm around you, drawing you closer.
"fine," he conceded, feigning annoyance. "but don't think this changes anything, pipsqueak."
you threw your head back and laughed, a bright, genuine sound that echoed through the silent forest. "of course not, ni-ki," you replied, your voice playful. "we're still enemies, remember?"
"enemies who share a surprisingly comfortable tree," he countered, his gaze flickering to the way your hand instinctively rested on his arm.
"so," you said after a moment of comfortable silence, "how do you propose we get ourselves out of this mess?"
the playful mood evaporated as the reality of their situation came flooding back. he cleared his throat, forcing himself to focus. "we need to find a landmark, something we remember from the trail. maybe a creek, or a distinctive rock formation. then we can work our way back from there."
you hummed in agreement, your head nuzzling deeper into his chest. "alright, well, let's not get up just yet. it's still pretty cold out here."
a small smile tugged at ni-ki's lips. this unexpected closeness, born out of necessity, felt strangelyâŠnice. he wasn't sure what the future held, or if this forced truce would last beyond getting back to camp, but for now, in the quiet intimacy of the morning, he wouldn't trade this for anything. "yeah," he agreed, feeling a warmth spread through him that had nothing to do with the rising sun. "let's stay here just a little while longer."
the forest around you both remained cloaked in a pre-dawn twilight, but the horizon was ablaze with the promise of a new day. streaks of fiery orange and vibrant pink bled into the inky blue sky, painting a breathtaking canvas above the silent trees. you couldn't help but let out a soft gasp of awe, the discomfort of the hard ground momentarily forgotten.
ni-ki glanced down at you, his gaze lingering on the way your eyes sparkled in the soft light. "beautiful, isn't it?" he murmured, his voice barely a whisper.
you nodded, mesmerised by the vibrant display of colours. "it's incredible," you breathed.
a comfortable silence settled between you, the only sounds the gentle rustle of leaves and the chirping of a few early birds. despite the awkwardness of your situation, a strange sense of peace washed over you. ni-ki, with his arm still loosely wrapped around you, seemed less arrogant in the morning light, a hint of vulnerability softening his features.
as the sun climbed higher, painting the leaves in a warm golden glow, you tore your gaze away from the sky. "alright," you announced, a newfound determination in your voice. "let's get serious about finding our way back."
ni-ki mirrored your seriousness. "right. we need to focus." he sat up straight, his gaze scanning the surrounding area. "do you remember anything about the trail? a specific tree, maybe, or a turn-off?"
you wracked your brain, a memory flickering to life. "there was a large, twisted oak tree on the right side of the trail, just before a steep downhill slope. maybe if we can find that..."
"bingo!" ni-ki exclaimed, a grin splitting his face. "i remember that tree too! it was kind of gnarled and had these weird, knobbly branches."
relief flooded your chest. "okay, so let's head east. the sun should be rising in the east, right?"
ni-ki nodded, pulling out the compass he'd managed to find tucked away in a pocket of his backpack. "yeah, the sun should be roughly in the east at this time." he consulted the compass for a moment, then pointed in a direction. "alright, this way."
together, you rose to your feet, your muscles protesting slightly after a night spent on the cold ground. but the prospect of finding your way back to your friends fuelled your movements. you followed the direction ni-ki indicated, carefully navigating the trees, your eyes peeled for any sign of the twisted oak.
the forest seemed less menacing in the bright morning light. you pointed out landmarks â a fallen log, a clump of brightly coloured mushrooms â hoping they might jog ni-ki's memory. he, in turn, shared his knowledge of edible plants and tracking techniques, a surprising wellspring of information hidden beneath his usual cocky exterior.
after what felt like an eternity, your heart leaped into your throat. there, standing defiant against the backdrop of younger trees, was the twisted oak you remembered. you let out a whoop of joy, a sound that echoed through the silent trees.
ni-ki's face mirrored your elation, a genuine smile gracing his features.
relief and a strange sense of accomplishment washed over you. you had faced your fear, survived the night, and most importantly, worked together. maybe, just maybe, this experience would change your dynamic with ni-ki, adding a layer of respect and perhaps a touch of something more.
the familiar path leading back to the campsite emerged from the trees, a beacon of hope and relief. a surge of exhilaration coursed through you. you had made it! without thinking, you spun towards ni-ki, a wide grin splitting your face.
"we did it!" you exclaimed, reaching out impulsively. your fingers grazed his cheek, sending a jolt through you. fuelled by the adrenaline of the moment, and perhaps the lingering intimacy of the night, you leaned in further, your lips brushing against his in a sudden, unexpected kiss.
the world seemed to shrink to just the two of you. time slowed, the sound of the forest fading away. but the kiss was short-lived. ni-ki froze, his eyes widening in surprise. he gently pushed you away, his breath hitching.
"whoa," he stammered, his voice laced with confusion. "what was that?"
you stumbled back, cheeks burning with embarrassment. your mind raced, replaying the past few seconds in a humiliating loop. what had you just done? the audacity of your own actions left you speechless.
"i-i..." you stammered, searching for an explanation that wouldn't sound completely insane. "i'm just...so relieved we're back. thank you for helping me, ni-ki." the words sounded lame even to your own ears.
but before you could retreat any further, ni-ki surprised you again. his hand shot out, grabbing you firmly by the waist and pulling you back towards him. this time, there was no hesitation in his eyes. he leaned in, his lips meeting yours in a kiss that was anything but hesitant.
you melted against him, all thoughts of embarrassment melting away in the heat of the moment. you responded instinctively, your arms wrapping around his neck as you deepened the kiss. the forest around you faded away, the only sound the frantic thudding of your own heart.
finally, ni-ki pulled away, his breath ragged. his eyes, usually so sharp and playful, were now a warm brown, flecked with gold in the morning sunlight. a slow smile spread across his face, a genuine, unguarded smile that sent a flutter to your stomach.
"wow," he breathed, his voice husky. "that was..." he trailed off, searching for the right words.
you swallowed, your own voice barely a whisper. "unexpected?"
he chuckled, a low rumble that sent shivers down your spine. "unexpected is definitely one word for it." he paused, his gaze holding yours. "but not unwelcome."
the sound of distant shouts jolted you both back to reality. a chorus of voices, laced with worry and relief, echoed through the trees. you pulled away from ni-ki, suddenly acutely aware of your dishevelled state and the way his lips tingled where yours had been.
"there you two are!" heeseung's voice cut through the trees as he emerged from the path, followed by your other friends. relief washed over their faces, quickly replaced by a flurry of questions and concerned chatter.
"we were starting to think you got eaten by a bear!" sunoo exclaimed, his eyes wide.
you launched into a rapid-fire explanation of your ordeal, leaving out the very recent, and frankly, earth-shattering development with ni-ki. your friends listened intently, bombarding you with questions about the night and how you managed to find your way back.
through it all, you were hyper aware of ni-ki standing beside you. he chimed in occasionally, his voice oddly subdued, and you could steal glances at him, catching the hint of a smile playing on his lips.
then, as you finished your story, jake nudged you playfully. "wow, you guys must have been really scared out there all night. scared enough to, i don't know, eat each other's faces off?"
a collective gasp went up from your friends, their eyes darting between you and ni-ki. your cheeks burned crimson. "what? no!" you sputtered, flustered.
ni-ki chuckled, a low sound that sent shivers down your spine. "yeah, jake," he drawled, his voice teasing. "luckily for us, bears were the only thing on the menu last night."
his playful jab sent another wave of heat flooding your face. you stole a glance at him, and your breath caught in your throat. he was looking at you, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes, but there was something else there too, something warm and unguarded that made your heart skip a beat.
you looked away quickly, a shy smile tugging at your lips. maybe this unexpected turn of events wasn't so bad after all.

How would you order your stories in terms of fantasy? From most fantasy elements to least.
Oh Jesus okay
The Princess in the Tower -- A straightup dragon-guarding-princess story. Hard to get more fantasy than that.
Gentle Nerandi -- Name magic and selkies. Again, pretty self-explanatory.
A Cinderella Premise/ A Cinderella Sequel -- It's. Cinderella.
Curse Words: Spellcasting for Fun and Prophet -- It's a magic school series.
Original Sin -- The inciting incident in this one is the protagonist killing a god.
Angel -- This is probably the last indisputably fantasy story on the list, but I'd argue that many more of my stories have Fantasy Vibes.
Breakfast Time -- We're getting into superhero territory here. From here on out, we start to move more into scifi.
World Builder -- It's hard to classify this one. I guess you'd put it in whatever genre you'd put the Library of Babel in.
How to Escape the Well -- not even gonna try to classify this.
Drops of Blood like Neon Stars -- It's vampires. They have a bullshit "scientific" explanation, but it's vampires.
The Void Princess -- This one has future people living in space stations, but they do also "psychically" connect (connect wirelessly via brain implant) to each other and fly robot dragons through space, so.
Child of a Wandering Star -- To the human in this story, this is a standard scifi adventure. To the alien protagonist, this is an epic fantasy quest and she is the Chosen One.
Charlie MacNamara -- Scifi, but with an old-fashioned Plucky Human Hero Saves the Day kind of vibe.
Rebirth/ New Rules and Guidelines From HR For Working With Humans/ Isolation Hysteria/ Unknown Complications/Love at First Sip -- all short stories exploring simple scifi concepts
The Back End of Time -- A time travel scifi story, but I did get to build a fun world for it
Copy <|> Paste -- This is just a thesis about Star Trek teleporters
Time to Orbit: Unknown -- This is about as hard as my scifi gets. There's still a few 'magic' handwavey tech bits in there, but nothing I'd call fantasy.
Wasting Time -- The social implications of time dilation due to near-lightspeed starship travel are not generally considered fantasy. (Now, if the time dilation was from going through a magic portal, on the other hand...)

about the dynamics thingy, ( sorry if this is late ) botw Zelda and link maybe? Or twi and legend? Have an nice dayyy
Ohohoo you've chosen to ask about the duo with some of the most stuff to talk about. >:]
Zelda and (botw) Link's relationship in this au is undeniably positive, but also very complicated. The best way for me to explain it is to explain the big events in their shared past that shaped that relationship!
Pre-Calamity
Zelda, faced with a heavy destiny she did not want and feared she'd never be able to fulfill... Was understandably in an emotionally turbulent state. When she first met Link --a boy who seemed to lack opinions of his own and seemed to fulfill his role perfectly-- she hated him. However she felt immensely guilty of that, and after an outburst apologized and tried to explain herself to Link. After all, Link was very much in the same boat as her, maybe... Maybe he could actually get it.
He unfortunately had to disappoint her...
The war
Despite their inability to form an emotionally connection through words, they did end up becoming close due to the horrors they witnessed together. They couldn't talk about how they felt but they kept each other safe.
When Zelda lost Link and awakened to her destiny, it wasn't as much due to the pain of losing a friend, but losing the last person she had. The last hope the kingdom had.
100 years later
When Zelda called out to Link in the Shrine of Resurrection, she was speaking out to a legendary hero who was destined to slay Calamity ganon.
The person who heard her however, was a memory-less boy who realized he has epic sword skills and can do back-flips. Hearing of his destiny, he decided to immediately go the very opposite direction and instead have fun. They had the wrong guy! This "Link" guy may have owned this body before but he now didn't know or care about these strangers.
Yet during his journey across Hyrule... He fell in love with it. The first few memories he tried to ignore, but as they kept coming he came to realize two things:
The Link the world had known 100 years ago was not happy. He was simply the ideal soldier, someone with no opinions of his own.
The Princess had deserved better than who he'd been. Now that Link had grown to love the world and tried to reject a destiny forced upon him, the feelings she shared with him suddenly made sense-- And thinking back to his lack of response broke his heart.
He wasn't going to run away from what needed to be done anymore. Link seeked out his destiny and slayed Calamity Ganon. For the world he loved, and... For the Princess who he wanted nothing more than to apologize to.
Post Game
Before being yoinked into the comic, Zelda and Link have been reconnecting while getting started with rebuilding Hyrule-- Not as a kingdom, but a home. It was certainly awkward at first. In Zelda's eyes this boy wore the face of someone she knew, but acted entirely different... And on top of that, this stranger knew her like they'd known one another for ages.
Despite the horrors in their memories that will never fade, and the endless guilt as the only few who made it out... They found a new kind of happiness neither had felt before.
To me their relationship in the comic is probably the best described as queerplatonic. It's not even a question of if they'll be together for the rest of their lives, its a promise they've already made without a single word.
Being taken on a whole new adventure without her has been jarring to Link, but! Zelda has good people around her. The two are not dependent on one another. Hopefully the time travel nonsense will get him back home for a quick hi sometime soon, but at least he'll have a lot of interesting things to tell her...
They're a team! To the very end!
Disclaimer: If the comic contradicts whats written here in the future, the comic's canon is the one you should prioritize!

Bucktommy + âGo back to sleep.â
âGo back to sleep,â Tommy mumbles, his voice thick with sleep.
Buck finishes tugging Tommyâs duvet up, tucking it beneath his chin and curling in on himself in an attempt to warm up. He doesnât care if it makes him a blanket thief; heâs cold. Plus, Tommy is practically a human space heater. Heâs laying beside Buck in nothing but his boxer briefs and looks perfectly content. Meanwhile, Buckâs in sweatpants and a hoodie and canât seem to shake the chill thatâs climbing up his spine and taking up residence deep in his bones.
He mumbles a sleepy apology, but if the way Tommyâs breathing has already evened out again is any indication, he doesnât hear it.
Waking up next to Tommy is all of Buckâs wildest dreams come true. He loves waking up with the familiar, grounding weight of Tommyâs arm draped over him, loves the way Tommy tightens his grip as he feels Buck stir beneath him, how he mumbles a sleepy âMorning, baby,â into his hair as Buck slowly blinks his eyes awake.
Every day he wakes up next to Tommy is a dream, but days off are the best.
Days off are when Buck wakes up warm and cozy in a sun-drenched room, tucked against Tommy, their bodies curled around each other like a pair of parentheses. The warm, familiar rumble of Tommyâs early morning voice low in his ear, the brush of his lips against the shell of his ear, chased away by the slight burn from Tommyâs day-old stubble against his skin as he trails kisses down his cheek, across his jaw. For a few quiet moments, itâs just them. There are no alarms ringing, no fires to put out, no helicopters to fly, no nothing. Thereâs nothing but them. Nothing to do except just be.
The thought of this particular day offâ this particular morningâ was the thing Buck was most looking forward to all week. And it had been an epically awful week. It had been six days since the last time their days off had last lined up, and heâd been all but crawling out of his skin with his need to see his boyfriend outside of a quick FaceTime call between claxons ringing.
On top of that, the stationâs A/C had been on the fritz and Chimney had been out sick with a flu he still insisted he didnât have, both of which made shifts considerably less enjoyable. Theyâd had a few really tough calls, including an especially hard loss in the middle of the week that was still living behind Buckâs ribs and needling at his heart each time the air fell silent and his mind began to wander.
Their shared 48 off had been the light at the end of the tunnel. A very dark tunnel that was starting to feel less like a tunnel and more like an inescapable hole towards the end, but a tunnel nonetheless.
âHot date?â Hen had teased him as he all but ran for the locker room the moment B shift started filtering in through the bay doors.
Buck thought about what was waiting for him. His sweet, beautiful boyfriend. His favorite pad thai takeout from the mom and pop place around the corner from Harbor. Sheets that smell like Tommy and a pair of reading glasses on the nightstand and two toothbrushes next to each other in the cup beside the sink.
âYeah,â Buck grinned, dipping his chin as his cheeks flushed. âYou could say that.â
The feeling of waking up beside Tommy is everything Buck always wanted and never let himself believe he could actually have. Itâs better than anything he ever couldâve dreamed up. Even now, when he wakes up and itâs still pitch black outside, the only light in the room coming from the glow of Buckâs phone on the nightstand as he taps it awake to check the time. Itâs not even four oâclock.
No wonder Tommy told him to go back to sleep.
Theyâve barely been asleep for five hours, and after the week heâs had, Buck would like at least twice that before even considering getting out of bed. But heâs up now and heâs freezing. He flips over beneath Tommyâs arm, turning to face him and curling himself into Tommyâs side with a small, content sigh. He tucks his head beneath Tommyâs chin in a shameless attempt to leech his body heat.
Tommy murmurs something indecipherable in his sleep, one of his big, warm hands coming up to rest between Buckâs shoulder blades. His welcome touch is warm and familiar, instantly soothing. And yet, it does nothing to stop another shiver from running through Buck.
He closes his eyes, starting to drift back to sleep just as Tommy shifts beneath him.
âEvan,â Tommy says quietly, concern clinging to the word. âBaby, wake up.â
Buck blinks slowly, confused. âYâjust told me to go back to sleep.â
âYouâre burning up,â Tommy says, his other hand coming up to feel Buckâs forehead. He makes a tsk sound under his breath. He tries to sit up, but Buck protests by way of a sleepy whine, holding onto Tommy even tighter.
âMâcold,â Buck mumbles against Tommyâs chest.
âCâmon,â Tommy says gently. âLet me up. Iâll be right back. I promise.â
Buck is too tired to argue. Tommy extricates himself, and Buck can tell he tries his best not to disturb him too much as he does. True to his word, Tommy returns a moment later. He runs the thermometer over Buckâs forehead, and its rapid warning beeps are followed by a small displeased sigh.
âFever?â Buck asks. Another shiver wracks through him, and he knows the answer.
Tommyâs hand is warm and solid as it rests on his cheek, his thumb stroking over Buckâs cheekbone in a soothing back and forth. âYeah,â Tommy says. Buck can hear his frown. âGonna give you some Tylenol.â
Buck lets Tommy help him sit up enough to bring the pills and a glass of water to his lips. Heâs a little more awake now, enough to register the way that his head feels heavy and his eyes feel hot behind their lids. His arms and legs ache as he settles against the pillows, and he has a fleeting memory of Maddie saying that Chimâs flu started out with a high fever and body aches.
âBe right back,â Tommy promises.
And he is. He returns a moment later with another blanket, a heavy one. He covers Buck with it, tucking it beneath his chin and running a hand through his hair fondly before climbing back into bed beside him.
âNo,â Buck protests. âIâll get you sick.â
Tommyâs arms encircle him, pulling him in until theyâre pressed up against each other. âDonât care,â he says simply. âWeâve already been pretty close.â
Buck sighs against Tommyâs neck, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth as he remembers the very enthusiastic reacquainting that happened against the back of Tommyâs front door no more than a minute after Buck had come through it. Not to mention the hours they spent on the couch watching a movie after dinner, with Tommyâs arm around him and Buckâs head on Tommyâs shoulder. All of which was before they fell asleep practically plastered to one another.
Tommy does have a point.
But Buck felt fine going to bed, which means the fever must have spiked pretty recently, which means it could be early enough that Tommy could still save himself andâ
âI can hear you overthinking.â
Buck frowns. âAm not.â And then a moment later, âIâll go to the guest room.â
âNo you wonât,â Tommy says simply. âThereâs no blanket on the bed.â
âBut youââ
Tommy silences him with a kiss to his forehead. âI am exactly where I want to be.â
Buckâs heart squeezes. A tiny, happy sigh falls from his lips. And for the first time since waking up, he feels warm all over.

overwatch headcanons: how they say "I love you" with Ramattra, Reaper, Reinhardt, Cassidy and Hanzo
a bit angsty and some curse words ahead, but still sfw. donât blame me, I enjoy the suffering and since you're still reading I bet you also do
also silly little juno was SMASHED by writerâs block again, please help sending a headcanon request, but read rules first
Ramattra
doesnât say it at all, actually
he was shaped for violence, hands carefully constructed to murder
the sentience came with grief, sorrow, rage⊠but love? this big fella doesnât even love himself, to begin with
itâs hard for him to cope with affection, to learn the aspects of it, mostly the very subtle nuances of reciprocation
but itâs you, and since you came along, this foreign feeling haunts himÂ
and when you say âI love youâ first⊠heâs so silent youâre scared youâve broken him with this three words alone
âHow is it possible for you to love a being as myself?â
he feels the urge to say something back, but simply canât vocalize the words heâs dying to say
you know heâs overwhelmed already, his pride contrasting his feelings, so you donât push him too far: Ramattra shows you enough
but your words echoes in his systems for days
in one of these, heâs with you as he always do before you fall asleep, and the words just came out
âI may not have a heart, and even if I did, it wouldnât be mine: it would be yours. It always has been.â
itâs not an explicit I love you
no, itâs much better
Reaper
you know what happens between you two must stay secretive
itâs⊠casual, if you can name it such
I mean, he comes to you every damn night, and most of them arenât for sex, but for companyÂ
and the cuddles, of course
you see him past the scars, the shadows⊠what lies beneath it as the ghost of a manÂ
and you love him nonetheless
despite all the danger that comes along with him being one of Talonâs counselors and a declared enemy to Overwatch
until one night, when he doesnât show up and never let you know why
and this one night turns into tons
youâre broken, to say at least
he avoids you, not even a single stolen glance through briefings, no more missions together
you donât know where you manage to find the courage to confront him, but somehow you do, so youâre cornering Reaper himself and demanding an answerÂ
âIsnât it obvious?â
well, of course: you were dumb enough to get to attached
but he steps closer, so surprisingly close you can hear a shallow breath muffled by his mask
the shadows engulf you both before you can blink, and his ghostly touch stops just inches away from your cheek
âIâve risked too much so far⊠but not you, not anymoreâ
you know what he means, you just wish you didnât
he departs with a last glance over his shoulder, to never look back againÂ
if he wasnât who he was, maybe things would be different
yet if things werenât the same, you two wouldnât even met
in the end, youâre left to grief in the graveyard he paths on his way away from you
Reinhardt
heâs a hero and will always be
but that doesnât mean Reinhardt is invincible
thatâs why youâre laying by his side, taking extra care to not accidentally touch the bandages covering his torso
youâre little injured from the last mission, a few scratches maybe
thanks to him, who jumped right into the moment to keep your head glued to your neck
per usual, he would be flourishing the battle tales and his epic acts, his thunderous laugh echoing through the HQ, but now?
the sadness contorting his face breaks your heartÂ
he stares down at you, one calloused thumb tracing under the thin line of the stitches on your cheekbone
âIâve let them hurt youâ
oh⊠so thatâs it
âIf I was a second late⊠I hate to even think of what could've happenedâ
he groans, retreating his hand and looking awayÂ
if he could ever be more dearing, you wouldâve explodedÂ
you cup his face and make Reinhardt look at you once again, reassuring him youâre here, safe and sound, thanks to himÂ
it takes a bit of convincing, but soon enough you hear one of his deep chuckles resonating in his chest and know that youâll be just fine
âI will always be there to protect you, liebling, no matter what it takes. For I could never live in a world where there is no you by my side.â
Cassidy
heâs always flirting and teasing, so you would assume itâs all a joke
despite him throwing his arm over your shoulder and resting his head on yours every goddamn time he has a chance
and if youâre quiet and close enough, you can hear his fast heartbeats pulsing
maybe⊠heâs just affectionate, yeah
not that you see Cole like that with anyone else, but
you could never take him seriously, because he can never be serious for once
itâs always a wink here, a smooth darlinâ there
yet he never makes a move on you that gives you the clarity you need
so itâs it, an eternal what if
until one days he comes from a mission, all dirty and hurt
youâre surprised to see he came straightforward to you, still trying to catch his breath while holding to his injured side
but before you can drop any question, Cole smashes his lips against yours
and it feels holyÂ
he keeps you close when you break the kiss, trying to remind yourself how to breath
his breath is so warm against your face, and that familiar scent of smoke makes your knees weak
âI fucking meant everything Iâve ever said, dollâ
for the way he just kissed you, youâre now sure he doesÂ
Hanzo
Hanzo isnât one to speak about his feelings openly
youâre actually surprised youâre now tiptoeing around some sort of serious relationship
at least, you think itâs serious since you barely leave each otherâs side
itâs extremely hard for him to be vocal about his affection, though
sometimes, he would still flinch when you touch him out of blue
but he loves to run his fingers along your hair, your faceâŠ
your body is his to worship
and thereâs this lazy morning, where heâs kissing your knuckles and embracing your waistâŠ
you just feel you could melt right here, into him
until something cold circles your finger and your eyes snap open
a ring
a FUCKING ring
you stare at him in pure disbelief, eyes so wide they must pop out by any second
Hanzo shows the most loving smile you had ever seen, kissing your ring finger
that now has an actual engagement ringÂ
âBeing with you everyday is still too little time. I wish nothing but foreverness with youâ

pick up lines - [p.jackson]
pairing: percy jackson x reader
wordcount: 1.4K
warnings: none
I hated waking up.
Not that sleeping was particularly amazing, being a demigod and all, but waking up really sucked. I'd been resting peacefully (not), when I was rudely shaken from my sleep by the breakfast bell.
Unfortunately, I had never been an early riser, so most mornings, there was a mad rush, involving a lot of mess, losing everything I needed, and desperately trying, (and failing) to clean up my cabin before inspection, which was right after breakfast.
I was generally the one who had the messiest cabin during inspection.
I finally was dressed in jeans and an orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, with my h/c hair pulled away from my face. Then, I ran to the dining pavilion.
I was a daughter of Demeter, the plant goddess. Yeah, I'm sure most of you are thinking: Oh, wow, plants... But seriously, it's kinda cool. I do have some pretty sweet powers. I can grow any plants from practically nothing, control plants and stuff, and sense things in the earth. I can even use plants to travel instantly from one place to another, by just hopping through the trees, or seeds, or flowers, or weeds, or . . . whatever.
I slipped into my seat next to Katie Gardner, my elder sister. She was the counsellor for Cabin Demeter. Katie was super nice, but she was always busy at the moment, mostly hanging out with her new boyfriend, Travis Stoll, Son of Hermes.
"You slept in again," Katie whispered to me, trying, and failing epically, to hide her laughter. "We thought it was best not to try and wake you."
That was probably smart. If someone woke me up, they'd most likely leave that situation with a black eye and seeds growing in their skin. I can be fairly lethal when I want to be.
"I stated up too late again last night," I said back, my voice also low. I didn't like when other kids were listening in on my conversations, especially those Hermes kids.
"Doing what?" Katie smirked, like she knew something I didn't.
"Um..." What was I doing? Hanging out with my best friend of course. Who also happened to be the cutest and most popular guy at camp. The only current Son of Posiedon. Percy Jackson.
"I was with Percy, at the beach. We were finding lost starfish and chucking them back in the water..." My voice faltered. I wasn't good at lying. 'At the beach' was accurate. We'd been laying on a picnic blanket, watching the stars, and just talking about everything and anything, for hours. We did that almost every night. It was the best feeling in the world, just being with him.
"Uh huh." Katie turned back to her food. "He likes you, y/n, I'm sure of it. Just as much as you like him, I bet."
"Katie!" I hissed, my face beet red, but the words pleased me. I'd had a crush on Percy Jackson since the first day he arrived at Camp Half-Blood, tired and bruised and scratched from fighting the Minotaur. He'd limped into camp, stole my heart, and became the coolest guy at camp within a month.
And yes, I was in love with him. We'd been best friends for years, and we hung out all the time. How could I possibly not fall for him, with his stupid trouble-maker grin, his dark, messy hair, his sparkling sea-green baby-seal eyes, and his voice. He was, at least in my eyes, perfect.
***
Later, I was practicing my sword-fighting in the arena, hacking arms and legs and heads off the stuffed straw dummies. I'd never been the best fighter, but I felt like I was getting the hang of my sword.
"Are you a child of Hermes?" a joking voice rang out from behind me. I spun around, and came face to face with one of the Hephestus kids. Leo Valdez, maybe?
I blew my hair out of my face, breathing hard. "Um, no? Demeter, actually. Why?"
The boy, Leo, cracked a grin. "Because you stole my heart."
I blinked, not sure what to say. I never really spoke to any of the kids from Hephestus cabin, especially not this one.
"Uh, okay... thanks, I guess?"
Leo grinned again, then ran off without saying anything else. Okay... that was pretty weird.
I decided to go for a walk, to cool down and to stretch my legs a bit, so I headed for the basketball courts, where a bunch of kids were playing a really aggressive game.
I plopped down on the grass a few meters back from the courts, and watched the game. It looked like Ares and Apollo (a strange match), against Athena, Dionysus, and a couple other kids, like Jason Grace, Nico Di Angelo, and Percy.
I found myself watching Percy more than the other players, but snapped my eyes away from him once I realised. I didn't want anyone seeing me staring at my best friend.
After a while, the players called for a break, and Jason Grace approached me. "Oh, hey (Y/N)," he smiled at me, sitting beside me and taking a swig of water from a drink bottle.
"Hey," I said back. Again, I was surprised at why Jason was talking to me. He didn't usually. Demeter kids were looked over quite a bit, and Jason was one of the big shots - a child of Zeus. Of course, Percy was a son of Posiedon, and he talked to me, but that was different. I'd known Percy for years, even before we came here at twelve years old. I'd know him since he was seven.
"Are you a child of Hades?" Jason asked suddenly.
I frowned at him. "No. Demeter, actually. Why does everyone keep-?"
I was cut off by Jason grinning and saying: "Because I'm dying to call you mine."
I swallowed. "Um..."
Jason got up and walked away, heading back to his game. I was totally confused, so I stood up, brushed off my jean shorts, and decided to go to the strawberry fields, where I usually spent most of my time, among the plants. Plants always calmed me down, and this random guys telling me pick-up lines were a little stressful. I wasn't the kind of girl who normally got guys, anyway.
After a few minutes of walking up and down the strawberry aisles, I ran into Nico di Angelo. Nico wasn't usually the sort of person you ran into in the strawberry fields, so I was surprised.
"Oh, hi, Nico," I said cheerily, waving at him. Nico and I were actually pretty good friends, so I was glad to see him. We got along surprisingly well, considering our parents' rivalry. You know, the whole Persephone getting kidnapped thing.
"Are you a child of Hephestus?" Nico stammered, blushing with embarrassment.
At this point, I was utterly confused.
"No!" I said, frowning. "I'm a daughter of Demeter, and I know you know that, Nico. And why does everyone keep trying these stupid pick-up lines on me? Besides... you like guys, don't you?"
"Well, um..." Nico shrugged and ran off, leaving me in a state of helpless confusion.
I sank to my knees in the soft grass, picking at it with my fingers. "What's happening with me today?" I wondered aloud.
"Hey, are you Aphrodite?" a familiar voice asked. "Because you're divinely gorgeous."
I glanced up, meeting the sea-green eyes of my best friend. "Percy?" I asked. "You too? What's-?"
Percy stopped me, sitting down cross-legged beside me. "Hey, I've- I've liked you for ages, but I never told you because I was scared you'd not feel the same and so we'd lose our awesome friendship, but the guys found out and so they were trying to make me jealous enough to admit me feelings today, by trying out pick-up lines on you, so, well, I- I decided that I should just tell you.â
I sucked in a breath. "Oh my gods," I managed. "You stupid son of Posiedon."
"What?" Percy chuckled nervously.
"Are you a child of the Sea God?" I asked softly. "Because I'm drowning in your beautiful eyes."
Gathering all my courage, I leaned forward and pressed my mouth against Percy's, feeling him smile against my lips, and I couldn't have wished for anything more.

Some days are so bigâŠso PACKED with contentâŠso unexpectedly swoon-worthy that they demand an edition of
âïž FSUâs Occasional Newsletter âïž
Is That An Earthquake Or Are You Just Happy To See Me?
The day began with a vague disturbance. Was it seismic activity? Inbox tomfoolery? A very happy birthday wake up for @lila-rae?
That last one is between her and Mr LR but
Bottom line: we could sense something coming.
Itâs Not The Size Of The Entourage, Itâs What You Do With It
We knew Tom was in Scotland and we figured it might be for golf but we did not know until this morning that he brought every single one of his brothers and best mates. So many of his closest dudes in one place made us đ€
Lord knows heâs a generous friend and his circle is tight, but we wondered what they might be celebrating?
The delulu? It was percolating.
Our Italian Romance: Starring Tomdaya đ„
We were already abuzz and the delulu was bountiful on the dash when suddenly the most cinematic and romantic photos of our favorite couple dropped. We learned they were canoodling at the gorgeous Castillo di Reschio, with such romantic activities as pasta-making (watch those fingers, Z!) and horseback riding.
And if that wasnât enough, A POOL DATE. Both of them sunkissed and beautiful, reading books and looking like the movie stars they are.
No, your eyes donât deceive you. They did switch books. đ«
Every single one of us immediately wondered why our partners werenât offering to read aloud to us in the pool at an Italian castle. But then, who hasnât wondered that at least once?
Dad Said His Tea Was Cold But We Say It Was Piping Hot
As if we werenât all twitterpated enough from the Italian romcom baecation pics, Zendayaâs Father In Law Dom felt like we needed a glimpse into their everyday life at home. He shared that the newest member of the Coleman-Holland family, Daphne the dog, is a âbeautifulâ addition to the clan and that her youthful energy has found a fast friend in her aunt Rosie, who is just a year older. Big brother and recent outcast (banished to live with Uncle Darnell, what did he do?) was said to be too old to enjoy the young pups.
Dom was feeling chatty I guess because he didnât stop there. He went on to share that Zendaya had recently joined Nikki and Dom for dinner at the local pub.
He further said that Granny Tess, siblings, cousins, all the boys and âthe dogsâ would soon be accompanying him and Nikki on an anniversary celebration trip to Portugal. Dare we hope for more family photos?
Even if we donât, thatâs another bingo square, baby.
Aunt May Has Shipped It For Years
To top off the content-crazy, your favorite aunt and mine, Marisa Tomei, said at an event in Canada that one of her favorite parts of her Spider Man experience was watching Tom and Zendaya grow up and âfall in love.â đ„°
That face sheâs making? The I canât take it theyâre so cute face? We were all wearing it. Even the strongest soldiers among us were grinning and kicking their feet. (We saw you, donât try to deny it!)
While we await word from the pixel analysts on what people starring in their own epic love story read to each other on vacation, and while we bask in all the little details that make the story more real and more beautiful every day, letâs take a moment as I close to appreciate just how hot Zendayaâs back is in this dinner photo.
Until next time, remember my friends: be kind to each other. I love you. Iâm wishing that each of you will find the one who thinks reading to you in the pool (Italian or otherwise) is the most perfect day.
And I hope your birthday is as filled with happy surprises as @lila-rae found hers for the third year in a row!

This Week in BL - In Which None of You Should be Surprised by a MAJOR Upset in the Standings
Sorry this is so late. I had a pretty epic series of delays landing me at NRT for like 18 hours or something ridiculous. To be fair there are much worse airports to be stranded at.
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
June 2024 Week 4
Ongoing Series - Thai
The Rebound (Weds Gaga) ep 1 of 12 - Fuck all ya'all if you thought I had taste. MeenPing are topping this damn list because... have you any idea how LONG I have been waiting for a real sports centered BL starring at least one boy who actually played the flipping sport? My whole damn life. You ready for me to go into euphoric splooges all over your screens? I don't think you are. SUFFER! And now some splooging:
Itâs off to a great start. Thank you, Rebound, for being exactly what I wanted. By which I mean Meen has his shirt off literally in the first two minutes of the show. Also itâs a bit of a childhood sweethearts reunion romance. Thereâs nothing wrong with this beginning. Fantastic. For a change, I even enjoy the intro music. Golf is directing MeenPing this time, so maybe something magical will happen. Frank is aging so pretty!!! How nice for all of us. Even the bb play is good. Itâs a proper sports BL. Iâm so damn happy right now.Â
Wandee Goodday (Sat YT) ep 9 of 12 - Iâm so tired of Ter, but everything else was lovely. Also they are SUCH boyfriends.Â
Sunset X Vibes (Sat iQIYI) ep 3 of 12 - They are so cute in these roles. I donât know why, I just like their vibe better here than in the previous show. (And I really enjoyed Big Dragon at the start.) This show is a lot more classic romance and kind of pat because of that. I do hope the ingĂ©nue character gets some kind of additional development and talent. But even if it stays mundane, these two have the chemistry to carry it. So I suspect Iâll keep enjoying it regardless. I am mildly intrigued by the spice of the PNR element, so I hope they run with that a bit more. I suspect they will have to, to extend the plot for 12 eps.
My Stand-In (Fri iQIYI) ep 10 of 12 - Ah Ming... famous last words. This one just makes me sigh a lot and whimper sadly. I donât know where theyâre going with this plot or how theyâre gonna resolve it. Joe finally being the asshole Ming deserves is a lot of fun though (double entendre intended). Iâm scared but it did make me cry... a lot. (That's fine, I'm a sap.) Â
Imma say this because no one else has. Wardrobe is unilaterally terrible in this show. I mean Thailand is notoriously bad in general but this show, nash.
We Are Cute (Weds iQIYI) ep 13 of 16 - They are so fucking adorable. And so flirty! Also a crying kiss? My favorite! Chainâs little moment of "Cupid shoot thyself" was epic. ("Physician heal thyself" but for the BL world?)Â Honestly, I could watch a whole show about these two...
The Trainee (Sun YouTube) ep 1 of 12 - How does Gun still look like heâs just out of high school? Madness. Does the set for the print shop that heâs working in at the beginning remind anybody else of Morkâs dadâs place in âCause Heâs My Boy? I swear GMMTV has about 3 sets they rotate through.
To be brutally honest, I was not looking forward to the show at all. No idea why. OffGun arenât my most favorite OG pair, but I respect them for their longevity, optics, acting shops, and enduring brand. Maybe I just needed more of a gap from Cooking Crush?
Whatever, I was absolutely riveted by this first episode. Iâm enjoying The Trainee a lot. Like, a lot a lot.
My Love Mix-Up Th (Fri YT) ep 4 of 12 - This version did the "clear up of the inciting miscommunication" in such a sweet achey way. Frankly that "ache of first love" really plays to G4's strengths as a pair. This was a good ep and Iâm now starting to enjoy this one for its own sake and get some distance from the JBL version. It's just there is A LOT of good stuff coming out of Thailand right now.
Love Sea (Sun iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I was inspired to write a Shakespearean style sonnet in this week's trash watch. Mame seems to believe that no character can have depth without suffering. And I found this episode both boring and rushed at the same time. Trash watch here. (This week's trash watch also VERY delayed.)
Knock Knock Boys (Thurs Gaga) ep 6 of 12 - Itâs eminently missable... so I missed it this week in order to get this weekly update out. Next week will be a two in one.Â
Only Boo! (Sun YT) ep 12fin - Okay, thatâs it, I guess?
Summary:
An idol romance about a sunshine boy who dances good and wants to be a star and a reserved food stand vendor. Other side of the tracks, grumpy/sunshine pair who fall in love but, of course, to be an idol baby boy can't date. It wasnât particularly bad, it wasnât particularly good either. 7/10
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
I Hear the Sunspot AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan Weds Gaga) Ep 1 of 10 - A new series adaptation of beloved yaoi I Hear the Sunspot (first adaptation was feature film Silhouette of Your Voice 2017).
I expected the soundscapes in this one to be fantastic, but I didnât expect the filming to be something special too. But it really is. Iâm not gonna lie, I'm nervous about this show because I love the manga and was disappointed by the film, but we were off to a really good start. First names already? So cute. I love them.
Takara's Treasure AKA Takara No Vidro (Japan Mon Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - Shy awkward Taishin goes to a Tokyo university in order to reunite with Takara, a stranger who consoled him over the loss of a parrot the year prior. He finally gets a chance to express his gratitude but is given the cold shoulder. (My thoughts this weekend's round up)
I can't believe Japan is holding it down for the non Thai BL. I mean to say.... JAPAN!!! What alt reality are we living in? It being Japan, I'm scared of the ending.
It's airing but...
Blue Boys is still going on and I'm still enjoying it (despite the cheating) but I don't know when it drops or where it's going, so I will report in at the end. When they tell me it's ended.
The Last Time (Thai Fri YT?) - Convoluted story of loss and possible reincarnation or something. Can't find it.
OMG Vampire (Thai Sun ???) 10 eps - I've put the search on hold for and y'all can let me know if it's worth tracking down once it ends?
In case you missed it
The Time of Fever AKA Unintentional Love Story 2 (Korea movie) trailer released to Korean theaters 5/25. HoTae & DongHee, side couple from Unintentional Love Story are back! Same actors, same character names. I love them. Devastated this hasn't had international distribution. I demand you tell me the moment you find it!
Next Week Looks Like This:
NO IMG - we half way through this week already - sorry.
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.
July Releases to Come
7/5 This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans (Thai iQIYI) - trailer here, The PittBabe team behind a new restaurant set BL full of hidden agendas and starring my new favorites SailubPon. Delightful!
7/10 Century of Love (Thai Gaga) 10 eps - trailer here, DaouOffroad are back, this time as fated mates in a quasi historical paranormal moment. San has spent many lifetimes waiting for his lost beloved, to reincarnate from her death a century ago. But if he fails to find her within this century's time window, he will succumb to a tragic death. And this time she's a boy. Very much Director Who Buys Me Dinner meets First Love Again, hopefully better than both. I love this pair and think they can handle the premise, it's whether the storytelling is up to the challenge. I'm curious to see but I have reservations.
7/26 4 Minutes (Thai Netflix or iQIYI?) - Great is a university student from Faculty of Business and the son of a wealthy business owner. Out of the blue, he gains the supernatural power to see four minutes into the future.
7/29 Battle of the Writers (Thai ????) - trailer here, TutorYim return and while I adore them, I really hope this is better than Middleman's Love. Won't be hard. However: that premise! Ugh. Something something authors fighting - save me. Why don't writers understand that nothing is more boring than writers?
THIS WEEKâS BEST MOMENTS
Defining @heretherebedork 's favorite endearment of "tiny idiot."
I love him. I also love what a class act they both were about this turn down. Thailand shows Korea how to handle a love triangle by NOT HAVING ONE.
Both We Are.
We stand a lap sit on this blog, but I think this is my first lap spin! I adored it! (Sunset X Vibes)
It's fun to watch them follow the original narrative but with these cute little Thai twists. Sometimes these are shifted for language reasons, sometimes for cultural, and sometimes I think just to draw a clear distinction from the JBL. I'm not mad about any of it. (My Love Mix Up)
Not just for you, honey. Truer words were never spoken. Yak is the biggest green flag ever to walk BL's verdant earth.
Linguistic corner!
I love this way of putting the translation. Usually, in Thai, the phrase used means "he's my happiness" (sounds like: kwamsook). To use sabai is different. Sabai more ubiquitous (sabai is one of the most commonly used phrases in Thailand) but also so different from the usual phrase we hear in ThBL at this moment. Thus, this execution is special, particularly from a doctor. I'm not quite sure how to put it but sabai can also be translated as feeling well, as in, not ill. So there is a way of looking at Wandee saying Yak is both his peace of mind and good for his health and well being.
(Last week)
Streaming services are listed by how I (usually) watch, which is with a USA based IP, and often offset by a day because time zones are a pain.
The tag BLigade: @doorajar @solitaryandwandering @my-rose-tinted-glasses @babymbbatinygirl @babymbbatinygirl @isisanna-blog @mmastertheone @pickletrip @aliceisathome @urikawa-miyuki @tokillamonger @sunflower-positiiivity @rocketturtle4 @blglplus @anythinggoesintheshire @everlightly @renafire @mestizashinrin @bl-bam-beyond @small-dark-and-delicious @saezurumurmurs
Sigh, Tumblr in it's infinite wisdom doesn't like too many tags.
There's these tricks, remember.

hymns of the unholy drops tomorrow, I'm gonna make a track tier list but here's my initial thoughts before it comes out:
This feels worthy of a "read more" just because there's no pictures to look at and it's four paragraphs. TL;DR the album is very cheesy but I'm literally so excited I'm gonna stay up all night so I can listen to the new album the second it drops. The overly critical part of my brain is telling me I shouldn't derive enjoyment from this album unironically but I'm not gonna obey, I am cringe and free and I'm gonna crank this shit with no shame cause it's the game I like...IN MUSIC FORm
[gif meant to represent me randomly busting it down leshy style when I'm home alone, and singing "THE END AWAITS AS THE OLD FAITH TAKES THE LAST OF MY KIIIIINDDDD" over and over]
The lamb's song was kickass and if I heard it in the wild without knowing there was a metal album for this game, I'd spontaneously combust from sheer excitement. It's instantly recognizable and that's kinda all I wanted from it tbh! I've mentioned before that I'm way more of a djent/shoegaze/sludge fan when it comes to metal rather than the genre these songs have been, but I'm literally so excited the bishops are getting some kind of inclusion in a project that I'm gonna crank this album even if it reminds me of the shadow the hedgehog game soundtrack. Tbh this one is so solid that if they JUST announced this one and didn't make the others, I'd still think it'd stand alone quite well for what it is! Edit: I said I'm cringe and free, why did I spend half this section dunking on the genre.....
Leshy's song..........was totally lame but in an epic way, like the first time I listened to it I thought it was fine! But when I actually read the lyrics I had tears streaming down my face from laughter. I screamed out loud when the guy basically says "btw my name is leshy :)", the lyrics are actually so fucking bad. But c'mon it's LESHY he's the littlest brother, if anyone got a corny ass song it should really be him. The shredding solo at the end is fucking hilarious and if he was in charge of his own song, he 10000% would request that specific ending. Musically, this one sounds the least like the source material so far but it's got that arpeggio from his + amdusias' theme and that's arguably the most iconic part. Also, "DAYLIGHT WILL COME UNDONE AS WE ECLIPSE THE SUN" is insane and is the best part besides describing his blindness as "ETERNAL NIGHTFALL"
Heket's song...........It has my favorite lyrics so far but the vocal work after the 40 second mark had to grow on me. I can't describe it but it sounds like that post grunge style and as a grunge fan, post grunge is my biggest opp in the music world. I was hoping they'd get a female singer for this but for heket specifically I can understand why they didn't. The actual lyrics in the song are fuckin badass, when it gets to the "MAKE YOUR PEACE, CREATURE" part I always turn it up to a deafening volume because it goes BALLISTIC. Genuinely my favorite part of any of these songs so far. I adore that her characterization in this song is layered and isn't just "I'm leshy, I'm made of plants or something and also I'm gonna kill you", it goes through her arc PERFECTLY imo!! Instrumentals in this one are better than the leshy song as well, I really like that they brought back the pitch bending/choppy sampling from the ost for this one
I'm on my hands and knees begging for the shamura song to be good, the leshy song had me worried but they came in clutch for heket. If they don't work in shamura's iconic lines from the game, I'm gonna cry inside I think- I'll forgive a lame kallamar song but ONLY if it's funny. Narinder's theme is gonna be hard to fuck up imo I have faith it'll be top tier

Here I go again.
Buck asks Eddie if his son is the real reason he doesn't date. Eddie responds with, "That and, they weren't my type."
This has been a flag for everyone who reads the subtext, but let's take a moment to look at the last GIF.
Eddie says they weren't his type. Buck turns around to look at them and probably assesses what makes them, 'not' Eddie's type because the girls were all subjectively pretty. There were also a variety of types of women there.
But look closely at the GIF. Eddie said they weren't his type. While Buck is glancing back, Eddie gives Buck a quick look that really screams, "You are it. You are the type." When I noticed this from the GIF edit, I thought it might be the creator slowing it down, but nope. If I look at the episode, it is the same or nearly the same. This is early season two, and I have always thought, in the early episodes, there was no intent to pair Eddie with Buck as anything but a friend. However, this scene makes me wonder at what point Tim M or whoever was writing changed their minds about adding in a subtextual narrative.
I find it very difficult to see this scene as a heteronormative exchange. In fact, it even feels like Eddie is pushing back a little to test where Buck stands. Buck as a character who lacks self-awareness gives a mixed signal answer. (which tracks with his character at this point and matches his coming-out arc.) **edited to clarify** Buck's mixed signal response to Eddie saying they aren't my type is, "Not mine either, at least not anymore."**
A few seconds later, Buck says Eddie has a weak excuse. My lovely and wonderfully sassy Eddie says, "You live in your invisible girlfriend's house, and you're telling me about weak excuses." He essentially points at Buck's closet door, but of course, this is something that Buck couldn't see or pick up on at the time. These moments are small in the grand scheme of the show as a whole so I'm afraid it will be forgotten. It would be nice to have some sort of throwback acknowledgment that this scene hasn't been retconned.
To backtrack a little bit here, I would also like to point out something else about the early timing or the writing of these characters as potentially queer. They are outside. (True I don't understand the ins and outs of filmmaking so there may very well be a reason for this.) But the shot itself is making them walk close together. Not just close, their shoulders are literally bumping against each other, hitting and knocking at each other in a way that might appear "unintentionally" intimate--until you remember they are outside. It seems to me like there are dozens of ways to shoot this thing that don't require them to be so casually physical with each other. For the scene to be shot like this and then consider the canon conversation that took place, it feels quite intentional that the writers wanted viewers to look closely for something else.
Whenever certain people call Buddie shippers delusional, I think about this. Subtextual language aside, the scenes are shot in such a way as to plant the idea of "More." There is attraction here. There is flirting.
Someone, somewhere wanted to tell this story from the start; and I'm not mad about it. I'm 100% here for it, and I'm ready for it to go down as the most epic love story I've ever watched or read about, but I also admit that I want it to be canon, not so I can throw it in anyone's face that their ship is wrong, but so I can prove I'm not some weirdo putting two hot guys together. I'm seeing a real romance being built. I want that validation as much as I want everyone under the LGBTQ umbrella to see representation for themselves on screen.
If you want to see the scene, go to about 3:05.

i'm literally insane about the last agni kai and the lightning scene(s). i swear i've rewatched it 10+ times since my last rewatch of the show (which was my first watch in years) and like. azula sees katara come into view from behind. zuko doesn't. he follows azula's gaze and sees katara and is immediately horrified. he doesn't even think or hesitate because he doesn't have time and for once he doesn't have to look back at azula to figure out what she's doing because he knows what she's doing and he won't let it happen. time dwindling into slow motion as a haunting score plays? and zuko literally yelling out "no!" because that lightning absolutely cannot hit katara. as soon as he sees it there's no chance of that ever happening. and then katara watching in horror as the lightning flashes against features in what is probably one of the most hauntingly beautiful animated moments of the show? zuko hitting the ground still convulsing with lightning and katara crying out "zuko!" and immediately trying to run to him before azula attacks again? and the next scene we cut back to with them, zuko is groaning weakly and trying to lift himself up, and we see katara literally gasp in surprise as she realizes he's still alive (i'm sobbing because i do quite literally think she thought he was dead) and immediately tries to run to him again, nevermind that she knows azula is still there, and the hand katara uses for healing is already doused in water as she reaches for him. but then azula starts attacking again. and zuko, despite literally being in so much pain that he can't stand and can barely even move at all without whimpering, still tries to reach for the spot where he can see azula attacking katara. katara is forced to hide from azula's attacks. and as azula is mocking "zuzu, you don't look so good" down to zuko, the perspective shot is such that you can SEE that katara is also looking at where he lies prone in the distance, surrounded by flame (probably wondering how much time they have before it really is too late) before looking back up at azula and realizing she needs to defeat her as quickly and handily as possible so katara can get to zuko. obviously katara would have done this anyway (the whole reason they were THERE was to halt the continued cycle of the imperialist regime of the fire nation), but the scene is specifically framed as katara trying to figure out how to stop azula so the obstacle to her getting to zuko is no longer in the way. katara's defeat of azula was epic and deserves its own post. but then after making sure azula is securely chained, she runs to zuko, looks at him with such immense sadness and horror and fear as she hears him in so much pain, tenderly turns him over so she can get a good look at the wound. and she cups his head? briefly but so gently? so that he won't hit it as she turns him over? and when she tries to heal him you can tell she is so genuinely unsure if it will even work, and so relieved that she starts crying tears of joy when she sees it has (at least enough to keep him alive and somewhat lessen his pain.) they thank each other (and you can tell it's still really hard for zuko to talk and his eyes are barely open but he thanks her anyways i'm.) and she thanks him back and!!! when he starts to try to sit up she makes a little surprised face and then immediately helps him to do so (and puts a tender hand to his chest while she does!!!) and obviously that last shot of them standing together is also one of emotional support, but katara's hand on his back is also partly because i still think (and certainly katara still thinks) trying to walk/stand on his own would be a bad idea, so it's definitely not happening.
#y'all. let me tell you right now. there was a way to write and animate this scene that didn't play on a dozen romantically coded tropes#and this. uh. wasn't that!#zutara#i know this is basically just reciting what happened ( i almost included the actual way katara defeats azula but that wasn't the point of t#is particular post and also would have made it even longer.)#but#there is nothing about this sequence of events that does not make me feel like i am on drugs.#also you Know zuko immediately after this was like: alright well i guess i've got shit to do! then promptly falls unconscious again. tbh#the joke is on him if he thinks katara is letting him out of sight for a While#atla#zuko#katara#this isn't even particularly analytical i'm just gushing#i'm not joking i will never be over it.#the last agni kai#sozin's comet
