Before playing Before the Storm, I honestly didn’t think I would have so many feelings about Rachel Amber but oh boy, here we are.
I just want to start off by saying that I am a Rachel defender through and through. I will die on this hill. Call me Chloe Price because I am president of the Rachel Amber fan club.
The belief that Rachel had no care or compassion for Chloe and was only using her is insane to me. We are talking about a 15 year old girl who feels like she has to be everything for everyone all the time while still maintaining perfect grades and a perfect reputation. She has a broken family with a father who is a master manipulator so of COURSE Rachel knows how to manipulate, it’s all she’s ever learned and she thinks that’s how you have to move through life. Chloe is the first person she’s ever met that she could maybe be real with and she doesn’t know how to handle that emotionally. She does love Chloe, she just doesn’t know how to show it very well because it’s never been demonstrated to her.
When talking about Rachel, I think we need to remember that she is a victim, right up until she was buried, and even during her burial, she was victimized. Even her body could not get the peace it deserved.
Firstly, she was 100% a victim of her family. The mother who was sick and couldn’t recover for her until it was too late, the mother who lived a lie Rachel’s entire life and didn’t have the heart to say anything, the father who demonized a hurt woman and refused to get her help, who kept a part of his daughter away from herself, and who would rather hire a hitman to kill her real mother than actually allow them to meet. Say what you want about him doing what he believed was best, he was still wrong.
She was a victim of Frank. I have a lot of mixed feelings regarding Frank in general, however I do believe that this is another case of Rachel being victimized. I’ve seen a lot of “Why would she cheat on Chloe with Frank?” online and it’s baffling. Are we forgetting that Frank is a fully grown adult who is 13 years her senior? Regardless if they started dating after she turned 18 (which we do not know for sure is the case), he still met AND liked her when she was 15 years old (considering in BtS, if you tell Frank over the phone that you’re helping a friend, he asks if it was your friend from the other night at the mill, and agrees to help only because of her). In the diner during the storm, he does acknowledge that she was too young for him, but that he did genuinely care about her, which I don’t doubt, but the relationship is inappropriate regardless. The relationship also likely started because she was a user and running drugs for him as a means to make money to leave town with Chloe, who he believed was “trying to take her away from him,” a sentiment that is common within grooming.
She was a victim of Jefferson, having been coerced into whatever their relationship was, her feelings for him being self-described as “obsessed”. She never truly loved him, only being manipulated into it because she was young and desperately needed a father figure-esque man to make her feel worth something. All he really was was an adult who wanted to do disgusting things to a child.
And lastly, she was a victim of Nathan, who she gave years of friendship to, but he was so broken and so blinded by pleasing his so-called mentor that he allowed her to die and left her in a junkyard like she was garbage.
Rachel was a just baby who was crying for help ever since she moved to Arcadia Bay, and the only one who could hear her was Chloe. Unfortunately, despite doing everything she could, Chloe was also a child who was dealing with her own trauma. She couldn’t always be at Rachel’s side to protect her, and Rachel was scared to tell her the truth in fear of losing her. No one was able to step in to give Rachel what she needed, and she continued to escalate, lash out, and put herself in more and more danger until it led to her death.

quick rant — life is strange is such a beautiful representation of how there are no "good" or "bad" people, they're just people.
this is mainly (in my mind) shown through nathan. its so easy to hate him, but he won my heart just as easy. his character is so well written, i can talk about him for years — a broken boy from a broken home, searching for somebody, anybody to accept him and love him for who he is.
first, he's abused by his stuck up father, shunned by his entire family, and then is revealed to have multiple mental illnesses, that he has to take medication for, and is expressed as an embarassment, not just at home but at school too. nobody accepted him, nobody liked being around him besides victoria, rachel and samantha. samantha, being the only person to defend him and show him love and kindness, who claps for him and just him at the end of the play. then that ends, one way or another judging by the fact that samantha isnt a character in the original game and nathan seemingly just gives up on her when she unknowingly walks away from him at the end of before the storm. he spirals, becomes bitter and angry between games and is no longer the introverted, kind, quiet, nathan we see in before the storm. he's used, manipulated, (probably blackmailed) and forced to aid in drugging, kidnapping, and photographing girls. he "accidentally" (i have theories..) kills rachel, another one of his friends who genuinely treats him well enough to even have a picture of them together in her room. and then he has to bury her and live with the guilt of a closest friends death hanging above his head, which worsens when her missing posters are splayed across blackwell, and the entire town. he gets busted for the gun, gets busted for kates (attempted) suicide, gets beat up, has to live with knowing that jefferson is planning on kidnapping another one of his best friends, and then gets murdered.
characters like him (and finn) and discussions of "i feel bad for him but i still hate him" "i have a love hate relationship with him" are so silly to me because hes not necessarily a "bad" person or an "evil" character, he's just a person. of course, this does not at all excuse helping jefferson or killing rachel (i have my own theories on how it isnt as bad as it sounds on nathans part, but not really going into detail on that rn) but his voicemail to max really changes the perspective on everything (to me)
"max, it's.. it's nathan. i.. i just wanted to say.. i'm sorry. i didn't want to hurt kate or rachel, or.. i didn't want to hurt anybody. everybody.. used me. mr. jefferson.. is coming for me now. all this shit will be over soon. watch out max... he wants to hurt you next. sorry." (Life Is Strange: Episode 5: Polarized, heard while max is driving to the two whales diner)
a broken boy, from a broken home looking to be loved, and in the end he's tricked and manipulated, only to be killed by his one escape.
i love him; his writing is so beautiful. he isnt evil or good, there is no angel or devil on his shoulders, he's a person.
i will always defend him, i literally love nathan with my whole heart.

Defending Nathan Prescott
(From Every Accusation)
All fact proven & common sense theory
No bullshit.
I suck at grammar. Deal with it.
I've replayed the game far too many times to gather this. I read into everything and even read into and WATCHED people who have suffered the same mental illness and situations Nathan has been in.
What I'll be covering:
Illness, rib breaking, dead animals, bdsm, Chloes pic, Rachel, gun on campus, Kate, Pompidou, Jefferson, wealth and his father.
And dont even THINK about skipping ahead!
Everything here is tied into one another. Read from start to finish. You're on this post to understand, right? Or to argue? Im not here to argue so, bye.
Lets start from the top...
Tumblr media
Nathans downfall was caused by society and all who failed him. He's driven by hatred of others who don't understand him, and the game purposly wrote him off that way. They want players to hate him from what sides of the stories we've experienced. They gave this character controversial hobbies and a cynical bully attitude to really keep you suspecting him and not guessing Jefferson. The game isn't about Nathan. It's about Max. We learn so much about Max and everyone close to her. The tears they shed, the pains they've endorsed. Same with Chloe and Rachel's story. My heart goes out to all of them. We don't get to see that with other characters. Therefore, we don't care for them...or that's the games' intentions. We don't know the ins and outs of Nathan. Only what the game shows us, which are all negative. So, of course, disliking Nathan is only reasonable.
Mental Illness
We start with mental illness. He has Psychosis. Lots of proof, but i'm assuming you've seen it all already. Like, do people know what Psychosis is? Do they REALLY know what it is? Because this ALONE changes everything. And not Psychopathy ..Psychosis. Two different things, pookie. Psychopathy is the one where part of the brain is missing or disturbed. THEY'RE the ones that don't have empathy. Psychosis is different. Anybody can get it. This illness can take your empathy and awareness away, then bring it all back after the harm is done, leaving you to process that. Schizo and Bipolar are also all quite a handful to deal with too. Loud Noises/downgrading voices in your head SO LOUD that people will do anything to calm them. (Dont be shy, youtube: "28- Psychotic Episode" by Collège d'Alma) The feeling of loosing your mind is something I notice a lot of haters dont empathize on especially if they killed or hurt sombody. The brain slips into a state so disconnected that interviews with recovering patients I've seen describe it as confusing and scary and dont recall saying the stories they told and actions they did others. Imagine not being able to remember the hurtful things you've said and done. Imagine being told you killed somebody... with your own hands? And you can hardly remember what happened. Like... how would you react? Think about it. Anybody can get psychosis with enough trauma or a kick in the noggin. Some people who were interviewed that had psychosis said that they found relief when getting high or drunk. Little did they know the symptoms could bounce back up to 5x during withdrawal. But they were so desperate to get rid of the voices that they abused the drugs. Like....wow the game really did their research to create such a complicated character. Anyway, moving on.
Edit: After further research, he certainly had bipolar disorder first. Then it went left untreated, therefore sunk him to worse mental state of many other illnesses. Drugs only made things much, much worse. Bipolar disorder can cause schizo and schizo to lead to psychosis. 🙄Jesus Nathan quit hogging all the illnesses.
Now, let's break down everything else...
Shooting Chloe
Just rewatch it. Aims gun, Chloe pushes him, it tightens grip, ACCIDENTLY shoots her, immediately drops gun and gets really scared of he's done, checking to see if she's alive! If you specifically rewatch the ending of Lis1 when Chloe gets shot, they extend his reaction. He goes back and forth, checking her body. If he wanted to kill her, you check pulse and then run. Not sticking around crying about it. There's your empathy you're all saying he doesn't have. Other times where he could have shown more empathy ties with his Psychosis. Some people with the illness said that the voices loudly in their head will convince them that everyone around you is your enemy. Everyone is after you. It can twist your brain to feel anger and fear towards others. Nathan is always hung up on how everyone is using him and trying to control him. Which people ..DO use him. So now he's convinced that everyone is. He's not choosing to feel this way. He just needs psychiatric help.
Breaking Ribs
In Before The Storm, his entire demeanor is completely different than the Lis 1. He's more cowardly and not loud and aggressive. We'll be mentioning his creepy "pervy" binder later. Nathan isn't violent until the end IF you let Nathan get bullied and push his life in a negative direction. Sure, it's not Chloe's responsibility, but this is the game's way of showing you his downfall. We need to remember the game hides scenes and expect you to make up what happened behind the scenes. He broke Samantha's ribs over ..what? She's always so desperate to defend Nathan and even gets upset with Chloe when she doesn't help. So, if you tell her the wrong option to pressure kindness into Nathan, it results in him breaking ribs. How, though? Haters immediately hop online to say cause he's a mean and abusive non-empathic nut head. Are you sure he didn't just push her away, and her clumsiness just fell over? This took place after the play...so he possibly...pushed her off... 😰 She did say she was clumsy. You don't think she would have tried to hug or touch him in any way. Ok ok...calm down... Let's take a step back.. You get this "breaking ribs," ending from letting Nathan get bullied and embarrass himself during the play that his father pressured him about! Adding a little "..fuck you.." to the audience. Showing his start to his villain career and the start of him hating everyone, and you tell Samantha to go hug him!? This is the start of his mental spiral if you let things play out this way. But hurting her with intention? No. Lets tie this in with the other endings to their relationship. You get the clumsy ending. She hurts herself differently, and Nathan is with her in the hospital. Saying how he feels bad that she got hurt. (empathy bell) And they continue yo talk about her photo or whatever. Tie this with the rib one, tie this with the Chloe getting shot incident, and tie this with his mental illness. Come on, do i gotta spell it out for you.. Hurting someone is not what he attends to do. Like he quotes in his voice mail. (Speaking of that voice mail, empathy bell.) He does get angry at Samantha and hurts her, and we as players dont know the full story. But what was playing in his head seconds before and the entirety of the game that led up to this IS the reason why he accidentally hurts her. His anger from the entire game was built up and, unfortunately, released on her. Whatever happened, breaking her ribs was not on his to-do list! And then we have.. The good ending. He sits beside her, smiling.
Tumblr media
Oh, wait! He's a little psycho with no human emotion? Psychosis has all parts of the brain attached, pookie. For most cases, It can be cured and helped. I can get it. YOU can get it. He has human emotions when he is at his very rare peaceful moments like with this good ending, when with Victoria ig and other scenes we tend to forget. Because painting him as the villain was the games goal. Jefferson was the plot twist.
Daddy Issues, Smug Talk, and a Gun on campus
Simple guys. Simple. You represent this school. You represent our name. This is a legacy. You will not embarrass me. This isn't about you or your problems!
Tumblr media
Sure, YOU wouldn't crumble under that pressure, but Nathan sure did. Sure, child abuse isn't an excuse to "kill" people. But is it the child's fault? Sean-beanbag prescott should be arrested for not taking his boy to the asylum. Instead, he argues with a doctor!? Goofy, bro. But so many people are fueled with anger towards Nathan instead. It's whatever. Prescott, literally being his name, was already a red flag to other characters and chose to hate and bully him over it. Drew hated for what his FATHER did. Nathan did ..what again? Notice how that "rich Malfoy talk" wasn't really present in Before The Storm. Sure he tried to burn Drew with a family financial situation insult but the "Im rich, my father owns everything, I got a lawyer, money this and that" wasn't in his character in the Before the Storm. I believe being a prescott wasn't really in his future goals, and he wasn't ever really passionate about it. It's all in the annoyance in his tone with his father before the play. Lis1 he uses it so often to show that he's the boss and in control. He is influenced by representation for his family/school, wealth, intimidation, and of course hatred and believing everyone hates him. In his mind, everyone is against him, after him, and wants to use him. Again, he doesn't choose to think this way. Let me explain my last sentence clearly, though. Imagine being surrounded by a ton of people. All their attention is on you. They hate who you are. They talk about you. You have a defensless stomach sinking feeling and scared because all these people surrounding you are looking at you and all your insecurities and laughing at you. Well, obviouslysome of that is not going on in reality. But to Nathan, that IS his reality, and he has no control over it. Anyways I shouldn't have to keep explaining mental illness and how it stresses the brain. The bottom line is that his status and waving a gun around is what he thinks keep others out of his head. He can barely throw a punch. He had to use his head on warren, and did you catch when Max hit him in that scene? The dude was literally holding onto his face like he'd been battered. Like she did NOT hit that hard lmao. He's weak. He's always been the same tiny Nathan from before the storm. Just now, he uses masks for intimidation to stop his bullies, and anyone he thinks is "after him." He never meant to use a gun on anybody, just a threat. During the second scene where warren reunited a head butt with Nathan.. If you pull off warren, he barely even aims the gun when he runs away towards his room. Cowardly. He feels that he has to, to protect himself. He also uses his father as a threat, but clearly, that never worked. Also, I noticed him crying when you let Warren get crazy on him? Dudes apologizing and sobing? Guess that's not his first rodeo, rip.
Tumblr media
Dead Animals
There is no proof he hurt animals. That's not really like him. He does have a list of illnesses, but Psychopathy isn't one of them. Y'all can keep yappin, but it's not. Clearly NOT one of them. He could have hurt an animal during an unaware episode, but there will not be any awareness behind it. Anyways, there are plenty of artists that do the same thing. Nathan is very passionate about photography and protraying solitary but not in the same way Jefferson does. Jefferson certainly uses that manipulation, but we'll get to that later. There are artists that like to shine on death in a positive light and in sorrow. There's also beauty in anatomy. It's not my cup of tea, but someone close to me can name me all kinds of gross organs and would be down to disect any animal. Yuck. But to them.. its fascinating, and they are the greatest people in my life. In love and in empathy. (NOT comparing my pookie to Nathan, PAUSE.) In anatomy theres Education and surprise. Death is also a theme and style too. Skulls and gore, super "rad" fukin "knarly."
BDSM Skip to (●) next part if needed
Ok.. so he's a little frisky. Y'all need to remember this is a fictional game first, okay? Lol Anyway, I can't defend him much here, but I got something. Firstly, the game WANTS you to suspect Nathan. Can't keep his room pretty and pink. They have to make it freaky and spooky. They paint Nathan as the villian for you to only focus on him as a suspect. So that everyones jaws are dropped with Jefferson twirls in.
Anyway...defending BDSM? This can bring trauma to those who have experienced it negatively or view it negatively. So skip to the Frank defense or read more if you want.
Bdsm relationships are very controversial. Some people see it as unhealthy, abusive, and sick. But if you have talked to or listened to other people within these relationships, they state that its completely consensual, safe, harmless, a breach of deep trust with their partners, and simply a fetish or kink The goal is to have fun at your limit..not pass the limit. There are twisted people who have broken that barrier and made it not fun and abusive. That's where I can't argue. If you feel that way towards the topic, I completely empathize with you.
Nathan has shown in his other photos a black and white theme of solitary. And you can tell that he might have taken those bdsm photos himself. As the quality is almost like the Pompidou photo. Everyone blends him taking bdsm photos with his angry behavior and "non empathic" demeanor. But this is where I loop back to Before The Storm hugging-my-binder Nathan. It's shown that in one of his endings, he took photos of Samantha. Obviously, NOT bdsm photos. His binder was a school project. But Samantha obviously consented, and Nathan was passionate enough to show her. He sees them as art. Naked girls have been models for sculptures and paintings. Its beauty. That's IF she was naked in some way in those photos. Which I still doubt. School project. Im sure the photos were gentle and strange and misunderstood, and Drew was just in his bully era. His reaction would have been a lot more eye-opening if he had a face full of tits or straps. Nathan begged for his binder back and even nervously reacted, showing he had love for his work and 'took time with it' (as he quotes when Drew throws it). I bring this up here to show that the women in his photos were indeed given consent, and if hes passionate about depicting his art, hurting them wouldn't be on his agenda. As we all learned today that hurting people was never his intentions until drugs and illness met with pressure and intimidation clouds his brain.
I read up on other artists that painted things similar. In their paintings, they expressed dread, vulnerability, feeling traped, and ..feeling used. If Nathan did find the images he took arousing, then why would he hang them up like everything else in his room like art? I believe that they're depicted in an artful way and in its black and white shading brings a sad darkness. If it's anything like the painters I mentioned, maybe Nathan has a deep level of empathy we don't understand.
●Frank and Pompidou
I didn't even know he took a picture of Franks hurt dog in the road because you little freaks threw his treat in the street!? This will also tie in to chloes pic, but we'll get to that. Frank first, as it's pretty simple. Nathan runs some system with Frank. And it's pretty obvious it's the same thing Drew was doing in Before the Storm. Nathan clearly doesn't like it as he finds it controlling, but getting his hands on drugs is a great way to forget his flaws and calm his illness symptoms. Which only created a loop of his symptoms worsening, as talked about before. His illness is very active towards the end of Before the Storm. You can tell by his huge character difference that drugs only made it worse.
Pompidou is a good dog, but just remember he's not the one who hurt him. This ties in with what we explained in the dead animal phase. The Imagine is black and white. It's a strange art most people don't understand. Man, I don't even understand it. But these people aren't heartless, and they're simply expressing pain. Or.. he took it for the same reason he took Chloes pic. To feel that he's in control, thinking this will help his mental reality of thinking everyone can use him, as explained earlier. But i doubt it. One is in color, and Pompidou is not. One is misguided, and one is "art."
Jefferson, Rachel, Kate, Chloes pic
If i see one more person throw him in the same trash bin as Jefferson, im going to puke. Anyway, I've twisted my head around this story so many times, begging to see the bigger picture. No pun attended. Jefferson was pulling the strings all along ..you know that, right? If Nathan was never there, Jefferson would have still done his disgusting projects. He certainly brought Victoria over without Nathan's usage. He didn't need Nathan, Nathan just made it easier cause he can easily be manipulated. Making Nathan do it all so the consequences will fall on him. Jefferson is smart and knows the right words to say. Nathan is missing the kindness of a father figure. All he has to do is play with his feelings. Nathan falls too easily to kindness. He felt the kindness of Samantha during the good ending, and He felt the kindness from Victoria.. but Victoria toxic bully nature wasn't helping. The bottom line is Jefferson easily manipulates him and understands his mental reality and uses that against him. Adding thoughts into Nathans head. Jefferson learned to use Nathan's illness to his advantage. Nathan trusted Jefferson as did everyone in that school. Why on earth would Jefferson wrong him? He looked up to him, so when Jefferson slowly brought him into his plans of drugging girls, Nathan thought that it was all ..moral. In reality, you and I know obviously that's not okay, but to Nathan (and his severe illness), he trusted Jefferson was doing no wrong. We don't understand the mental strain he was under. Manipulation goes a long way. Heres how he did it. He probably said things like 'We are the same Nathan, this is art just like yours.' It starts small, Nathan gets him the drugs. Then he pulls him in, and Nathan starts drugging the girls for me. Start driving them here. Start helping me inside the dark room. Start helping me inject my victims. Jefferson had so much power over him. He was connected with his father. He can threaten his grade, his representation, and his future in art. He knew all the right things to say and do. He knew how his head worked. Clog him up with drugs, and keep him quiet. Heal his missing father needs and demand him for your needs. Does this not make Nathan a victim, too?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then ...the Rachel incident happened. Nathan was NOT mentally aware of what he's done. The excited "Rachel!" When he saw Max at the diner clearly shows that he truly expected her to pull up. This mixes with the symptoms we've discussed. He only remembers bits and pieces as obviously it was beyond traumatizing. Sending him in an insane spiral and the infamous psychosis drawing. (Don't be afraid, google psychosis drawings. Damn. Just imagine you recovered from psychosis and laying eyes on that and not remembering you drew that..ugh...I'd cry.) Someone with Psychopathy wouldnt feel traumatized from such events, debunking the fact everyone thinks Nathan has Psychopathy. He doesn't have Psychopathy, he has psychosis. Moving on. Jefferson was certainly angry with him and drugged Nathan himself after the incident, which really helped Nathan to forget what he's done. But Jefferson's anger and not talking to him tore him apart. His emotional attachment clearly wasn't having it. The note he wrote Jefferson in desperate attempt to bring him back after ruining Jefferson plans goes to show just how much he wants that sense of being cared for. If only it was someone else that wasnt Jefferson ..or his dad can do is fucking job too.
Alcohol was certainly a great method of forgetting what he did. So then comes Chloes' interaction with him. We know the story. He did not SA her, I can say that right here and now. Nothing like that was behind this. You can tell by the way Chloe presented the story to Max. There wasn't an uncomfortable tone to her story. She didn't seem traumatized but more shocked, and "it was pretty crazy." She also wasn't drugged for that long. She woke up very soon, fully clothed. What obviously happened is that Nathan used this to feel in control like the mentioned way above. Drugs and Psychosis is no jokes. Who knows what hell is playing in his mind, but I unfortunately believe that this was to try to win back Jefferson. He had been angry at him and ignoring him, and even tho he hates drugging, his confusion and drunk state led him to this. He's cowardly, and his mind is slipping and tries to do what he thinks is right for him. He's misguided and leads down the wrong path.
Nathan did not SA Kate! Kate story breaks my heart into a million pieces, but if she was SA-ed, it wasn't Nathan. After everything I said above, you can tell that that isn't in his character. But here I want to bring up the voicemail. Nathan claims multiple times that he never wanted to hurt anybody, implying that he felt forced to do harm. Something he DID NOT want to do. Why on earth would anybody have felt forced to SA somebody!? I'm not saying Kate WASN'T SA-ed as I can only assume maybe the boys she was shown with in the video did something or Jefferson. Victoria was Kates bully!!! Nathan wanted to be liked by Victoria and was influenced by her nature. He's desperate for attention and kindness. Victoria did far more to hurt Kate and her reason as to why was shit. You go THAT FAR to one up your photography game. Girl, bye. She spread that video, and she still has empathy, too? Her regretting everything? Did she reallyy regret it? Or did she want to make herself look good for her representation? She showed regret via text message in Before The Storm, too? She doesn't have a mental illness, but the game gave her an act of forgiveness and used her as a victim so the audience would sympathize with her. Goes to show you the game controls what they want you to feel. If they were to do that with Nathan..would opinons be different? Taking us into his mind and how he sees the world around him. They could have..but didnt. Well.. We have the voicemail, but obviously, that didn't stop the haters. It's unfortunate. But the game gave me just enough little clues for me to shine light on in this post. They put so much into his character but never showed the audience the truth.
Conclusion
What we've learned today is that Nathan isn't the villain you think. He's been manipulated, used, and needs mental help, but im sure my old Nathan-defending friends have said this time and time again. Im here to add something....
It's been PROVEN that he's capable of all human emotions. You just refuse to believe it because you're mistaking his illness and claiming all of this was intentional. Psychosis can be temporary. It's like a hand that steals your common sense, feelings, empathy, and sympathy, and you're only left with acting on pure chaos and negative or fearful emotions. After long treatment, your sense of reality returns, your feelings, your empathy, your sympathy.. And all you have now is guilt and regret and self blame that you hurt somebody. If you let Nathan kill Chloe, he is arrested. He had doctors aware of his illness and would have been charged with illness in mind. Forcing the treatment he needed ages ago. By the time Lis 2 came out... I wonder how he's taking it all in? What he did to everyone, what he did to Rachel.
He was written off to die, be locked up, and blamed. Unfortunately, he was caught in the crossfires of the harm of our favorite characters. If he was born in a different family and away from Jeff, he would have never hurt anybody. Matter a fact, he would never have suffered with his listed mental illnesses.
This goes out to all real accidental murder cases. There will always be a great divide in opinions. I hate comparing fictional games with real life, but I find it crazy that we call others nonempathtic when they aren't empathic themselves. It's like the word "accidental" is worthless.
Its always a debate..
Do we feel bad for the lives lost and their families
or
Do we feel bad for the mental crumble of the one who never meant to kill and how their familes have to deal with that.
Are they worthy to walk this earth? Are they worthy to see the daylight again? Are they still human, too? Should they die, too? Is redemption possible?
Who knows. Peoples opinions won't change unless they themselves fall onto the opposing team. If they were to suffer the chaos of accidentally murdering someone or the grief of losing someone from an accidental murder.
Tumblr media
Red Nathan, the first Nathan we all experienced from Lis1. Damaged and doomed. Used and mentally obstructed. It's unfortunate things ended this way.
Blue Nathan, Appears in Before the slStorm and Max's alternate timeline. He is clean and hasn't touched drugs. He had not been involved in crimes or violence yet. In this alternate timeline, he has been somehow saved and kept away from mental destruction and Jefferson. We will never really know what drove Nathan towards this peaceful path, but I assumed that it was the kindness of Max that led him in the right direction. (Max somehow changed Victoria, too. With her demeanor being so gentle. I really am curious about the whole back story of that timeline... I think about it alot)

what happened to kate on oct 4?
kate said she woke up in a room and heard nathan and another person (mark jeff). MJ later blamed Nathan, saying he didnt give her enough drugs, which is why she woke up halfway through.
but lets dig a little more deeper
(note that these are all just theories & havent been confirmed, english isnt my first language but i'll try my best to explain so bare with me pls :))
....
1. nathan’s schedule (10/4-the night kate got drugged)
Tumblr media
thoughts: nathan and mj headed to the woods around 4am bc kate was about to be buried (if i were a madman kidnapping someone and one of my victims woke up halfway through, i know i'd be in trouble. they would recognize my face and expose me. would i simply release them just like that? absolutely the fuck not - i'd kill to silence them
….
of course, nathan being nathan was still messed up over the whole rachel situation, flipped out, fleed with kate and took her to the prescott estate. he couldnt bring her straight back to blackwell. it was too risky. why? kate might get suspicious if she wakes up and sees her entire body covered in dirt and mud. so what did nathan do? he took her to the mansion, cleaned her up, and dressed her in fresh clothes.
2. a letter from sean prescott thanking david for ‘helping’ nathan
Tumblr media
he then called his father, asking for david's help to drop kate back to her dorm room (before the drugs wore off) without getting hassled by security guards. this might explain the letter in EP3 from sean prescott thanking david for helping his son (someone pointed this out on reddit)
....
‘what did david do for nathan?’ he promised sean he would keep quiet about everything after kate’s suicide/attempt
3. a letter from anonymous
Tumblr media
“i thought about u protecting me bcs i am scared of this school" -i can confirmed 100% that this letter is from nathan he sounds like a brat chickenshit
....
we all know david set up surveillance cameras around the campus and the pan estates to keep an eye on him (nathan needs someone to protect him; probably from jefferson???) and i think david already witnessed nathan dragging kate inside it could explain why he was so obsessed with her bc hes about to discover the truth abt what went down between the two of them after the party
....
thoughts: basically i think nathan was trying to protect her from mj who wanted to kill every girls he kidnapped or maybe he just couldnt handle letting someone else become the next rachel. he thought he was doing the right thing, but we all know everything went downhill after kate's viral video
p.s - i suck at explaning, as always sorry for my sloppy english

No one:
Me: You know who would have been better as Belle's infidelity partner than Will Scarlet? Jefferson.
Tumblr media
Before I begin, THIS IS NOT A BELLE HATE POST! Yes, I am going to address IT, but I am not putting her down for this...and I'll tell you why.
So after that god-freaking-awful twist in 4x11 when Belle sends Rumple over the town line, both he and Belle are left shattered at their dubious betrayals, the latter of which so much so she sought additional comfort (again, not hate, just hear me out).
That love interest ... for whatever reason ... was Will Scarlet, a cameo from Once Upon a Time's short-lived spin-off OUAT in Wonderland, which had ended a few months prior.
Tumblr media
I, along with a good chunk of the fanbase, thought it was a unique choice, and most likely a way to acknowledge the spin-off in canon.
Don't get me wrong, I like Will as a character in OUATIW, but he was just off to me in OUAT. Like he was just shoved in there without a real purpose. Even his scenes with Robin Hood felt forced to me.
And honestly, it seemed strange to me that Belle, the logical scholar and fruitful romantic, would break her wedding vows of all things even after what Rumple did.
BUT THEN AGAIN, I also don't think it's established how intensive wedding vows are in this universe. I mean, Snow technically cheated on David with Dr. Whale, and while it's addressed comedically, it's not really addressed as an issue in their marriage but they comfortably move on from none the less.
Of course, it's obviously just the show's weakest attempt at *drama* and a way to baffle the Rumbellers into stunned silence so they can focus on *other things* (I am NOT going THERE today.)
And I think I remember an article or something about Will's actor's Michael Socha, feeling underused and wanting out especially since he had a kid at home. While he has a few zingers between him and other characters like Rumple and Hook, he looks so awkward when he's on-screen with Belle, like even he doesn't know why he's there!
But for the sake of *drama* Belle needs some side yum. Cool. Girl's gotta work out her frustrations some way right? But WILL SCARLET?!
This Will Scarlet?
Tumblr media
"I love you Anastasia Tremaine" Will Scarlet?
Tumblr media
Who ripped his heart out because her betrayal was just too much?
Tumblr media
For freaking sake, they had a TLK!!!
Tumblr media
I will only, and I mean ONLY accept the following two theories as a reason why...this happened...
1. This takes place during Will and Anastasia's break.
It's established in the OUATIW that the events in the spinoff are happening sometime in either late-season 1 or early season 2's canon. I think. But maybe, just maybe, it was actually around season 4's timeline? The timeline is screwed to hell anyway so...
Ana's presence is established in OUAT after Will, who broke into the library and vandalized a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, is arrested and held indefinitely. And while Will looks distraught at the mention of his former love, but he's not devastated enough
The scene subsequently serves as a pointless but sweet way to introduce Belle and Will. I myself wrote a fic few years back as a way to fill in how that played out afterwards. But the actual writers just kind of tossed it in there.
And dropped it.
Yeah, WIll just kind of disappeared after season 4. Thanks for stopping by, I guess.
And btw, you cannot convince me that a guy who reacts like this after watching the love of his life get killed in front of him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like I kid you not, Will's screams and cries were stuck in my head after that episode. I gasped and covered my mouth. I remember feeling the same way when Graham died in OUAT because Emma's grief was just as raw as this. This is not the kind of grief you just up and move on with so casually. This sticks with you.
BACK TO JEFFERSON
Okay, I swear, I have a point.
Again, if Belle just *needed* a love interest during her break from Rumple, fine, but why not use the opportunity to do some freaking fan service after that Frozen mess?
Bring. Back. The. Hatter.
Why Jefferson?
He has an established relationship with Belle.
Tumblr media
Even if the ugly truth is Jefferson had to know Belle was being held captive in the hospital asylum, Belle would still, begrudgingly, be grateful he freed her and reunited her with Rumplestiltskin. Maybe he tried apologizing with coffee, and...things happen.
Plus he has an established relationship with Rumplestiltskin PRIOR to Belle.
No. You cannot tell me these two:
Tumblr media
...were just "business associates". No these two were hitting shroons in Wonderland every Tuesday at happy hour, do I make myself clear? It's obvious they weren't friends but they worked well together.
That scene in the shop would have been BANGER if Jefferson had been in Will's place. I mean the possibilities are endless with their establishment. They could have opened up an opportunity to explore more of Rumple's deals with Jefferson to find a way to the Land Without Magic, or even their shared connection with Regina, established, beloved connections in the series the audience would be comfortable with.
And honestly, I think Belle and Jefferson could have very nice chemistry too.
Their both worldly, and I can see these two sitting at a booth in Granny's forever as Jefferson told her her stories about his travels, maybe even a few tales about his deal and possible friendship with Rumplestiltskin. And maybe he helps her heal a bit.
That scene in 4x12 where Belle and Hook talk about Rumple really rubbed me the wrong way. What Rumple did to Belle and, yes, even Hook, was awful, but Hook never had to answer for his part in Rumple's decline. What did he think would happen if he threatened to blackmail him with Belle of all people?
Not to mention, Belle and Grace would have gotten along so well.
Tumblr media
At this point in the series, Grace is a young teenager, and could possibly use a female presence. She like Henry, would probably understand that her father needs more companionship and would support their relationship. And it would be great foreshadowing to Belle's own relationship with her child later on. And Belle LOVES kids and could have formed a very promising bond with Grace. Regardless on how her relationship with Jefferson could have ended, Belle would have this girl over for sleepovers every week.

Mr. Loverman | Mad hatter/ Jefferson x reader | Pt 5
Picture this since before the curse you and Jefferson have been best friends, your character is the chesiare cat but a witch version ( NOT A FURY 💀) . This is staged during season one during the time of the curse, your memory is erased but he still remembers you. ( Also Jefferson doesn’t have a daughter in this!!!)
Tumblr media
"Wakey, Wakey girl." I hear a kinda unhinged voice say, my eyes still closed but I can feel that he's right in front of me. As I open my eyes, I see him sitting criss cross on the floor spinning a card between his fingers.
"It's Y/n, ya know." I say, sitting up rubbing my eyes, the place gets a little less blurry after a few seconds. I hear the man mutter a yea yea, as he hops up from the grounds.
Stubbly I get up from the bed, trying my best to get out of tired state. Ok recap, last night I saw the guy playing with his hat or whatever, talked to him and then I got sucked into his portal to wonderland, slept in his house and now I'm here. Quite a weird night for a weekend I suppose, the man walks out the room and I follow him out.
"So when can I get home?" I teleport to his side, watching as his eyes widen in surprise to my magic, and a grin all of a sudden splattered on his face.
"Ah so you're a witch, makes sense, only a witch could follow me in this damned place." He grabs his hat off the rack, placing it on his head.
"Technically I fell in here I didn't follow you, but whatever rocks your boat." A chuckle escapes his lips and I'm not going to lie a smirk came onto my face, there's something quite amusing about a mad man, it's fun to figure them out.
"Well perhaps we shall be on our way, I have to do something first before you can go home, and seeing as you're a witch I could definitely use your assistance."
"And that is? What are we doing before I go home?"
"Steal some cookies from the queen of course, but oh they're not just any cookies, they're magical cookies." A scoff escapes my mouth, before a giggle joins in.
"Mkay." Whatever cookies they are they better be worth it.
Time skip ~
I observe the trimmed bushes standing right in front of me, the wonderland maze, this is going to be a trip or is it?
In an instance I'm levitating off the ground, flying I guess you could call it, observing the maze in the bottom of me, turning completely invisible.
"Jeez thanks for your help Y/n, you're very helpful." Jefferson yells, "Very helpful."
I appear beside Jefferson fully visible once again, a beaming closed smile on my face. I signal him to follow me, his face yells in confusing, his eyebrows raised and his head tilted to the side a bit but he still follows me.
"So how you memorize the whole maze in a couple of seconds, are you some type of special witch or something?"
"A memory spell, for longer lasting memory that I added on myself months ago, works so well." I say boringly, stopping for a second before taking a left.
"Uh huh wel-" before he can continue I cut him off, "Why could you possibly go to wonderland for magical cookies, what's so good about them?"
"Dark one's orders, the cookies make you grow to a giant size, he wants to add it to his collection of magical items." My brows rise, why would the Dark one send Jefferson to get the cookies when he can get himself, nevertheless I shall the not question the Dark one's orders.
"Huh Okay." Once again I stop, this time stopping at a dead end, quickly I fix the situation by taking a right.
"I should warn you, Wonderland is a dangerous place, ruled by a vicious queen. We're risking our lives to get those cookies as we are going against the queen." Jefferson states, this time I stop not because of this time it's not about the maze.
"So you want me to risk my life to get some cookies from the queen so I can get back to the enchanted forest?" A large doubt enters through me like a shock of lighting, but yet I feel like I have to do this. I mean what if they kill him and his blood is on my hands, I know I shouldn't care about the man I met last night but I feel obligated do to this.
"Correct."
"Uh huh, got it."
After 30 minutes or so me and him have finally escaped the long puzzled maze, I sigh of relief and so does he.
"So what's next?" I question Jefferson, my hands placed on my hips waiting for him to answer me, I could tell he's thinking of his next steps, I hope he has a plan.
"Next we blend in, so they don't know our faces. After that we sneak into the queen's castle, specifically the basement where the cookies are." Again I am in confusion with this man, he doesn't seem to be a warlock so how is he gonna blend us in unless he has clothes to make us blend in with the crow, actually he probably does. But I'm still confused how we are going to go smoothly in the castle's basement .
Jefferson pulls out fabrics and clothing out his bag, and quickly he put a scarf around my neck and it covers my head only my face popping out of it, but noticeably. He then "disguises" himself in multiple fabrics around himself, he's definitely getting recognized.
"So how are we getting to the castle's basement, wouldn't we easily get caught just walking in?" I am replied my Jefferson's mad laugh.
"We're not going to walk into the castle's entrance Y/n, I'm mad but not stupid. We're taking the wonderland caves, we'll have someone sneak us in through there to the basement." This time instead of confuses I'm curious, does this mad man have connections through all the realms?
-
"Clock? Clock? Are you there? I'm here, it's tea." Holding the torch in my hands cautiously and carefully, I quick catch on his use of the code names. It's pretty easy to detect a code, they're abnormal and out of the ordinary, sometimes they are used in words to describe a person. I can assume Jefferson's code name is tea because he likes tea, and the person's code name is clock cause they like to read the time?
Soon the caves echoes the door screeching open, quietly but easily, a man stands behind the door. only his head popping out, but he's like a human sized rabbit, that's definitely out of the ordinary but knowing how I have a talking insect in my land I don't seem to mind.
"Quick come in, can't have anyone noticing you" , "and your friend." Jefferson grabs my arm, bringing me quickly inside with him. The rabbit checked his watch shakily, his body anxiously shaking.
"Do you what you must but be quick!" Without warning the rabbit bolted out the room, leaving me and Jefferson in the basement, well what I can assume is the basement.
"Woah it was kinda easy getting in here." I exclaim looking around the room while Jefferson scans the room before searching it.
"Don't savor the moment, the queen of hearts is not to be underestimated. Now quick look for the cookies, if you see a jar of cookies that say eat me with a pink frosting there the ones."
"Okay..." I join Jefferson in searching the room, looking in every corner, trying to look for the small details even the ones that don't seem to matter.
"So who is the Queen of hearts?'
"An evil queen and witch, if we cross her she cuts off our heads even for the smallest misconceptions. Nevertheless why we shall quicken our pace my dear and look for this jar of cookies before our heads fly off our bodies." I nod in response, wondering about this queen of hearts.
A faint sound of footsteps catch my ear, all clattered at once. I look to Jefferson's direction to know if he can hear it, he doesn't at least not yet. I quicken my pace, teleporting while I'm at it.
The stomps get closer at each second, a wave of panic floods through my body yet also amusement, now Jefferson hears it. He panics looking through the the shelves, tables, and even the mess of the pile. I'm constantly teleporting, frantically searching for the jar of cookies.
3 soldiers storm in the room, Jefferson looks at the them with a hidden fear in his eyes, I stand my back to the wall. I'm invisible so they don't know I'm here, the slam of the door shutting makes 2 of the soldiers turn their backs, 1 still keeping an eye on Jefferson.
"What the hell was that?!?" One of them says, I quickly lock the door, before teleporting to the guy looking at Jefferson, knocking him out with one of the things I found while scattering the place.
Jefferson's grin reappears on his face as I make myself visible again, the two soldiers turn around, their eyes frozen for a second.
"Surprised?" In an instance I'm beside the second soldier, amused at the confusing and fear splattered on his face. Jefferson grabs the sword from the 1st soldier that got knocked out, looking at the soldier competitively.
"Ya know I've never seen gear as funny looking as yours in wonderland, your queen has set you up really." Jefferson says, eyeing the soldier in front of him. I on the other hand teleport in different places, scaring and confusing the soldier I'm battling. I've never really felt this joy in my life, I like this even though our lives are at risks right now.
A groan of pain is heard from the other soldier, Jefferson hurt him out, leaving him bleeding on the floor. Now it's us against the 3rd soldier, I knock him out but Jefferson finishes him off.
"Now I suppose we get going, don't you agree Y/nyy?"
"Definitely!" Jefferson throws the hat on the floor, slowly but quickly it opens up. Standing on top or in front of it, Jefferson holds my hand as we prepare to jump. Another stomps of soldiers fill the hallway, luckily the door is locked but that dosen't stop the banging on the door as they try to open it.
As the door swings open, me and Jefferson are already falling through the portal, holding hands tightly laughing.
Soon we fall on dirt and leaves, the hat falling and joining us on the floor too. My eyes meet Jefferson's, a look of amusement on both of our faces. Suddenly I remember something, the jar of cookies. We didn't get it, oh no what is the dark one going to do to Jefferson.
"Jefferson, the cookies!" He madly grins, laughing like I said something dumb. He then grabs something from his bag, a jar, the jar of cookies.
"I got it last minute, turns out it was hidden amongst the books.", "Ya know, You're not so bad for a partner Chesiare ." I sigh of relief, smiling back at him.
"Your not so bad yourself hatter."
As we both get off the ground helping each other up, a feeling waves through my mind. He's fun, I like him I think I wanna see him again after this. We dust the dirt and lint off our clothes, Jefferson lifting up his hat off the floor and placing it on head while I fix my dress.
As we both start to walk away from each other I stop in my tracks, turning back around.
"Jefferson." I call out to him, he then stops and looks my way.
"Can we meet again, maybe another task or something?"
"Yes we can be friends Chesiare if that's what your'e asking." I tilt my head but I accept his words knowing that's what I wanted, why I wanted to see him again. I give him a genuine smile and am received by his, I'm going to love being his friend. I walk away with a pleased feeling in my heart, for once in my life I like one of those guys from the pub.

It's the final day of the 68th Hunger Games, and Jefferson Tracy has never had a tribute make it this far before. Then again, none of them have been quite like Penelope Creighton-Ward.
_____________________
It’s down to the final two.
Jeff hasn’t slept in over forty-eight hours. At this point he’s being kept awake on caffeine and panic and sheer determination, only eating when one of the others (Mags and Cecelia mostly) physically hands him a plate. The screens in the mentors’ lounge have burned straight through his eyes and he’s got a vicious headache. But still, he doesn’t leave.
Because it’s down to the final two, and one of them is Penelope.
She’d shown promise right from the beginning, when she walked up on that reaping stage demure as anything in a white frock that matched the bow in her hair. The other tribute - Harvey, a scrawny thirteen-year-old - had sobbed from the second his name was called to the first thirty seconds of the Games, when one of the Career pack beheaded him and put an end to his blubbering. He was a lost cause, and Jeff had known that instantly. Penelope, however? She stood a damn good chance of winning.
Everyone loved her from the start. Her stylist had called Jeff the minute they boarded the train to gush about her flawless hair and her gorgeous eyes and really, Jefferson, I have to change all my plans so I can enhance her natural beauty , as if it was somehow Jeff’s fault that the stylist hadn’t expected to have to make his tribute desirable rather than a spectacle to be gawked at.
He was glad in the end that the stylist had changed his plans, because Penny blew everyone away in the Tribute Parade. The costume was still a little on the gaudy side, with a collar-type piece made of grains that sat on her shoulders and flowed down into a massive woven wheat cape, but Penelope made it work. She played the audience well too, the model of elegance and grace, and she waved and smiled but not too much and she tucked some loose hair behind her ear in a way that made the audience cheer her name from the stands to the City Circle. Next to her, poor Harvey looked very much like a spare part. No one paid him much attention in the face of Penelope’s captivating beauty.
The way she played the crowd gave Jeff even more hope that she had a real chance of winning. There were pretty tributes all the time, sure, and the Capitol were always fond of them, but looks didn’t exactly save you from the sharp edge of a blade in the area. Penelope had proved to him that she knew exactly how the game worked. When she approached him that evening, still in her Parade costume, to grill him about every aspect of the training process, it was clear that she had what it took.
She'd suggested something absolutely baffling on the second night, something so different that for a minute it completely threw him off. She wanted to ally with the Careers.
At first he'd dismissed it outright. Sure, Careers showed interest in Outliers occasionally, but only the strong or incredibly smart ones. Penelope's strength was beauty, which would only serve to challenge the monopoly the Ones had on desirability. What skills could she possibly have that would interest them?
As it turned out, she had quite a few.
The Careers’ food supply was destroyed on only the third morning by mutts that killed two of their number - likely a careful ploy by the Gamemakers to reduce the chance of an inner district victory after their winning streak the last few years. They had sponsors, of course, but even the most arrogant of the pack knew that they couldn't survive off sponsors alone - especially not with the price inflation that usually hits later in the Games. They needed food. And by a complete stroke of luck, the arena had a wheat field.
Penelope had told him that she worked in the flour mills back home, when he asked about her skillset. It surprised him a little; given her name and her high-end accent, he’d expected her to work in a cushier job - teaching or baking, perhaps. But it was a good thing, because it meant she had strong forearms from grinding flour and carrying about the heavy sacks to the transports that took them to the Capitol. It meant that she knew how to make crude loaves of bread from the grains, timing it so that the fire needed to cook it wouldn’t give away her position to the other tributes. She even had some meagre supplies she'd taken off the boy from Twelve on the first day when he stumbled into her amongst the wheat, mortally wounded from the bloodbath. When the Careers conveniently happened to come across her on day four, short in numbers and already hungry, she made sure to have proof of her baking talents so they didn't kill her straight away. Told you I could be useful , she had said boldly, and somehow they agreed.
Jeff had been baffled by their decision at first, but eventually he saw their logic. Penelope wasn't much of a threat to them in combat, but she could provide food and she'd been noticed by the Capitol even before the Games because she was pretty and well-mannered - far from the lumbering farmhands Nine usually had to offer - so she could bring in those extra sponsors that they needed after losing three of the pack. He made sure to send her a decent gift that first night just to prove that the Capitol really were supporting her. Sulla, the boy from Two, proved he at least wasn't stupid by having one person watch when Penelope was making the flatbreads in case she tried to poison them.
After she'd worked to gain their trust, she began to destroy the pack from the inside out.
Jeff hadn't found out about this part of her plan; they hadn’t discussed it any further after their attempt to get her in with the Careers during training fell through in favour of their attempts to recruit Daizey from Ten, a big burly girl with freckled skin and muscles honed from years of wrestling with farmyard animals. It was genius, he had to admit. She started out with little things: moving weapons slightly, removing one or two purification tablets from packs and putting them in another, and so on. Casual comments dropped into conversation to sew the seeds of doubt between them. By the time she garrotted the boy from One and framed the girl from Four, the inner district alliance was completely shattered and Penelope was slipping away with Daizey and most of the Careers’ supplies as the rest of them tried to kill each other.
Jeff couldn't have been more proud.
By the end of the fight, all but one of the Careers were dead and the survivor, Sulla from Two, was pretty cut up, though a generous sponsor gift had somewhat restored him to health. Penelope, meanwhile, had stuck with Daizey. The two agreed to help each other make it to the end and battle it out between them. They made it to the final four, but one of the mutts from earlier ripped Daizey apart as she tried to help Penelope climb out of danger.
Now it's just Penelope and Sulla. Sulla had since gotten into a scrape with a sinkhole out on the plains, further damaging the same leg that the boy from One had sliced open in the Career split. Penelope, meanwhile, had suffered deep gouges from the claws of the mutt that killed Daizey, and (as far as Jeff can tell) is suffering from moderately serious blood loss. Both are at a disadvantage. Still, Sulla is six foot of pure power, and Penelope’s wiry muscle won’t do her much good in close quarters combat. From the looks on their faces, both of them know this.
Penelope’s goading Sulla into chasing her now on the main screen. Jeff has turned away from his personal monitor; the only thing being shown now is the final battle, and there’s nothing more he can do. Sponsors are useless at this stage. All that’s left to do is watch, and pray, though he’s never believed in any kind of higher power before. Maybe he should start.

Teach Me, Maria-sensei! 6️⃣
Usonia is a supranational union of states, roughly akin to the European Union, located within the former contiguous United States (often called the ‘former 48’) as well as parts of Canada. It was formed as a joint effort between the major post-crisis states (New England, the Great Lakes Republic, Texaplex, the Chicago Daimyoate, Tripartite California, etc) in the hopes that a centralized authority would bring order to the vast and ungoverned Midwest Autonomous Zone, and because the respective heads of state all agreed that it should be someone else’s problem. It remains to be seen whether the election of Sunny Roosevelt as the first president of Usonia has thrown a wrench into those plans.
+++++
Maria: So here’s the thing. All of this didn’t have to spell the end for the federal government. Zombie Covid, the Yellowstone eruption, Florida sinking… These were all bad and killed lots of people, of course, but it doesn’t necessarily follow that the government would collapse.
Sunny: Was it a straw that broke the camel’s back type of deal?
Maria: Partly, perhaps, but that’s not where I’m going with this. You see, at the time, the American aristocracy was storing a significant amount of their wealth in the form of real estate, for boring and complicated reasons. The destruction of the Polycrisis quite literally wiped a significant portion of their assets off the map. Property values plummeted across much of the nation, and hundreds of billions of dollars in wealth evaporated essentially overnight. This activated a panic amongst the billionaire class, who, fearing total societal breakdown and/or any repercussions at all for their actions, preëmptively retreated to their specially prepared underground bunkers, each containing their own small town of support staff, effectively immune from government intervention - though they were not immune to angry mobs, as they would learn in the forties.
Sunny: That’s the 2040s, because we’re in the future.
Maria: Have you seen the footage where [REDACTED] gets dragged out of his saferoom and publicly cannibalized?
Sunny: Omg my gosh, who hasn’t seen that? So bonkers.
Maria: It’s so good. But in any case, it was that withdrawal of support and psuedo-independence of the billionaire class, resulting from the destruction of property being used not for housing but as wealth storage, which ultimately broke the back of the federal government, or in other words… America died as a real estate scam.
Sunny: Callback!
Maria: In the immediate aftermath of the federal government’s collapse, the state governments attempted to pick up the slack. Results were mixed, in the sense that everyone failed at it but some people failed harder than others. The larger and more populous states had a better chance, but they were all dealing with their own problems - California was dealing with the Jefferson rebellion, Texas was caught up in the Norteño wars, and New York was being constantly harassed by the murine legions of Grunst the Rat-King.
Sunny: Didn’t Grunst run for lord-mayor of New York back in the fifties?
Maria: Indeed. Honestly he wouldn’t have even been in the bottom third of New York mayors.
Sunny: That’s the 2050s, because-
Maria: You did that joke already.
Sunny: It’s a good joke, Maria.
Maria: Anyway, the less populous states in the Midwest and Great Plains barely even managed an attempt at independent governance before any semblance of central government disappeared and the situation deteriorated into general banditry and warlordism.
Sunny: Okay, I get why all that happened, sorta, but how did it all happen so quickly?
Maria: There are two reasons. One, smaller states were more dependent on the federal government to provide funding for services like healthcare and education, and secondly… I’ll put it this way. If you had to choose who was in charge, and your choices were an ax-wielding Mad Max biker or, say, an average member of the Nebraska state government, which would you pick?
Sunny: …
Sunny: …
Sunny: …ough, that’s grim.

I'm in a bad and emotionally disoriented mood lately and it's been driving me to read about various horrible events &c on Wikipedia. Reading about a bunch of serial killers, US chattel slavery, and the Holocaust. It's definitely upsetting me more and making me feel worse but I keep doing it. Well at least I know more about some historical events.
I think I just. I want to "get it". I remember when I was a kid and I first learned about like, serial killers, I asked my mom "why do they do that?" and her answer was basically "they just do, something about them just makes them want to". And I was really unsatisfied with that explanation because I was like, there must be some reason that they do that. Like not a justified reason of course but just a reason. But if you read about like, Ted Bundy or whatever it's really just like, no, by some inexplicable fact of his nature he just wanted to kill people really badly. I guess at some level I can accept that explanation; I mean I do math for fun and that is as inexplicable to some people as killing people for fun is. But like. It really makes me feel weird and uncomfortable.
Chattel slavery I guess I get because it's a lot more instrumental. Like, you just don't want to have to pay your employees, I mean that's straightforward. What I don't get is everything that got built up around it, especially in the Confederacy, like... I know that people build up narratives to justify what they want to do anyway, but I really struggle to see sometimes how people actually buy these narratives. Or like. What goes on in the mind of, say, a young Confederate soldier who believes abolitionists are evil? Does he not see that he's the one on the back foot here? Does he not see that "slavery is ok" is by far the more out there ethical position, and if he really believes it he should expect people to be aghast? It's some kind of failure to take the outside view, or something.
And then the Holocaust, which I don't get in the same way I don't get serial killers. But "how the fuck did human beings do the Holocaust" is a well-trodden subject so there's less specific for me to say about it.
I don't know, it's just like. The standard answers that are given to these questions don't satisfy me. I don't feel like I understand what it is like to be Ted Bundy, Jefferson Davis, or Heinrich Himmler. I am not sure how I can claim to know anything about the human condition if I cannot understand what it is like to be Ted Bundy, Jefferson Davis, or Heinrich Himmler.

I've made it through the first 6 issues of Batman: Urban Legends.
I honestly think as a title it's a bit too busy setting up spin off title pitches and not spending enough time just telling Batfam stories that wouldn't otherwise have a home. It's also currently running at about 1 decent story an issue (and of course I then checked the trades and they've spitefully collected Cheer and Sum of Our Parts in separate trades).
I don't think devoting effectively 5 ordinary comics worth of pages to Cole Cash was necessary, even if they were trying to set up a WildC.A.T.S. title. (Also the plot dragged) Grifter is not interesting enough for the amount of push DC was giving him around this time.
The Harley story could literally have been in the new Harley volume they had started, Cecil Castellucci's Oracle story reminded me why I was just fine with her run on Batgirl winding up, the Batgirls story from Marguerite Bennett was cute but insubstantial (shocker), the Outsiders was okay (look I was happy to see Rex back with Jefferson and Tatsu) but didn't really go anywhere, the Black Canary had Joshua Williamson write Dinah like it was a Green Arrow title (though I did snort that it was a lead in for a Deathstroke title as there's a ship that will never fully die).
The Shiva story was definitely in conversation with Batman and the Outsiders 2018 and her characterisation in Tynion's 'Tec run. This is a Shiva that cares a lot more about being a parent than preboot Shiva. It had some cute elements, and was picking and choosing from histories.
Cheer quite interested me (even though it was about Jason), because what I saw in it was Zdarsky doing a whole bunch of reconciliation work to connect various disparate Jason!Robin retcons together into a coherent narrative that functions as a modern version of Jason's time as Robin. He is an angry kid there, with feelings of inadequacy and living in Dick's shadow. He's violent even back to before being Robin in ways that occasionally scare him. It picked up from the characterisation Winick used in More Time. He's not the best detective in the family and he knows it (which also is something that's been clear for years; both Dick and Tim are naturals in this area and also had far longer and uninterrupted training with Bruce). It had the compassion for kids that Jason fans like, and had Jason overidentify with a kid and get too caught up (a plot we've never seen Bruce have, oh never), and had a fair amount of underlying story about Jason fighting his own demons in his head. And it actually confronted the whole 'rubber bullets are a ridiculous compromise' situation, because even as Jason was still repeating 'they won't kill you' they're still very dangerous, and it established a fascination in Jason about guns going all the way back to his training.
As far as I'm concerned, I think it makes a decent blueprint of a backstory for Jason for current storytelling. Others may disagree, but if you're willing to accept that 'Jason was angry and violent' is a retcon that's baked in at this point, I think it works. (That said, he is not one of my areas of expertise but this played well with all his appearances I have read)
I think I want to read it again against Gotham War when I get up to it, because I can see some arcing themes that Zdarsky carried over into it.
The Tim story I'm addressing separately.

Part 3
Parts: 1 /2 / 3 / 4 / 5 /. . .
Synopsis: a flashback of Miles G. Morales facing his heavy grief of the loss of his father and how he became what he was in his universe and of course his first meeting with you.
Warnings: none
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
THE FAMOUS COP, Jefferson Davis, had died during fulfilling his mission of justice to his city. his death had left a deep scar on his 11 years old son, Miles Morales, who didn't know how to react after knowing those news at the time.
Miles has always been a good boy, he was known for being polite and kind to who around him, sometimes he had a bad temper but it never went too far. That until the event of the funereal, after that everything of him changed.
The boy was closer to his father, looked up for him, even when he was sticking those stickers around and had an option to be working as an artist since he loved expressing himself through his drawings, he had considered working as a cop or as one of the secret police agency when growing up, dangerous was his middle name and he had no fear interfering with such thing.
he wanted to help create a place where everyone felt safe.
so, to witness his father's coffin being buried six feet underground, didn't encourage his dream at all. in his world there was no 'powerful' hero to save the day, just regular cops who did their job as best as they could, against thieves and 'villains' it was so unfair how they the ones who were over powered while the good people weren't.
Miles had sketched fictional heroes, imaging how life would have been if there was someone who had enough power to kick those villains' asses. he drowned himself in sketches to distract himself from the cruel world, he became more quiet in school and more distant around his classmate and everyone one, even his own mother.
His uncle knew a way to reach him though it was difficult at first, his nephew would avoid being honest to his questions, lock himself in his room more than usual, ignore talking out with his friends or mother when she asked him to open up and keep it all to himself.
this unhealthy reaction was starting to be a habit, taking tool of his health and his weight. He couldn't focus on class or finish his homeworks. Would go for a 'walk with his friends' and be back late.
Rio's concerns toward her son had started to grow to the point she was considering to have him visit a therapist without his knowledge to which Aaron's declined this idea, saying that the kid needed some 'time' and this would make him close off even more.
The best they could do was to wait and to show him, how they were always there for him. The man wasn't really the best at handling this kind of situation, he had thought of taking Miles himself to a therapist but knew better. in a way, the kid resembled him in his worst days, how he would react to certain things.
They had stayed low till the day Miles lost it to a classmate and beat him with all his might, his classmate had been sent to treatment, it wasn't nothing much serious though it still brought out his family's concerns.
That's when Aaron started to become more firm when they got home, he kept cornering Miles with sensitive questions and annoying comments (ignoring Rio's warning whispers and annoyed gestures toward this) till finally his nephew broke out of his shell, crying down on floor.
Rio watched shocked and ran to her only son with open arms (glaring at the guy) while Aaron frowned watching him, before he joined them on floor (apologizing to Rio of course, saying it was the only way) they had to make him open up and break from his own hold.
He didn't want to hurt his nephew, he would kill anyone who dare lay a finger on him, that's for sure. Aaron didn't like to push Miles to this limit, since he, in the end of the day, was just a kid facing a heavy grief but he feared that they would lose him the longer he kept his distance.
it was how he got himself lost as well, with no-one being able to reach him, not even his brother
He knew Miles wouldn't want to have anything with crimes since he was a good person who looked up to his father, but if anything Aaron learned was true was life could push you to many places, even to the rarest ones you least expect.
Miles refused to meet a therapist, agreeing only on opening up with his family to decrease his temper outbursts and avoid any recent meetings. It was starting okay with him, the wound was still there but he was putting his whole focus on school work to ignore the pain.
He had started to raise in his grades once again, not stopping in his track. for a 12 years old boy he was handling it maturely, he still kept some struggles to himself to not to add worries to his exhausted mother. seeing she had applied for more shifts to manage a better life for her and her son.
his uncle would send some cash for them in a way of taking care of them, despite countless declines from Rio, he had always sent them some of his cash to which she helplessly took it in the end.
days were going in an alright direction for Davis family, handling loss of their dearest  member in their best way possible or so Miles thought, as he once sneaked into his uncle's room at evening, it wasn't really that bizarre for him since he did that recently and Aaron had allowed him to.
well, in the daylight at least and with a message to notify his uncle he was coming.
It was one of those days with Miles telling his mother he was 'staying' with his uncle after school when it really wasn't, Miles had a fight with one of his classmates which left him with bruises all over his face and body.
They had outnumbered him by 3 to 1, and he miraculously managed to take two of them out, while the last one who was in a bigger size took some good punishes on him.
Obviously, he didn't go back home for this reason, his mother had enough to worry about. and so, as he was making his way to grab some ice to cool down his bruises when someone burst into the living room all of the sudden.
Causing the boy to jump, upon seeing the familiar purple and black costume, Miles quickly ran to grab a knife and act bold Infront that 'Intruder' only to be shocked when the guy took of his mask, coughing loudly.
" Uncle Aaron. . . ?" He mumbled eyes wide as his uncle turned at him, clutching his metallic clawed glove, he flinched dropping the knife and assured it was just him.
his uncle's sharp gaze turned to surprise before they soften with worry. " the hell happened to your face?"
Instead of answering him, he stayed gawking at his costume approaching him slowly. " You. . You were the Prowler all that time?"
after explaing his situation to his nephew and that he once was working with the 'bad guys' before he quit and started to ruin their plans instead, it had brought a deeper interest to his nephew more than he thought.
Miles promised he wouldn't tell a soul of what he saw if his uncle did the same about his burises and also, teached him his ways.
When his uncle refused, saying how it was extremely dangerous and he was still young, Miles kept persuading him, revealing how he still didn't feel any better since no-one seemed to do something about his father's death. the crimes were still high, people still got hurt and no powerful man stopped all that since it was all going downhills.
He wanted to help the people and to  give those assholes a piece of his mind, he wanted to do anything to calm down this fire inside him, that kept him awake at night. Miles promised he would do his best and would stop picking fights since this training would keep him focused and put his whole energy on it.
At first, Aaron still refused and sent him home although he didn't mention to Rio about his burises, but after days, Miles's mood grew worse and he kept nagging his uncle, seeing how his nephew seemed true to his words and desperate to do something Aaron agreed in the end.
Training him himself. Their bond started to grow the more time they spent with eachother. His uncle had took notice of many potentials his nephew had, Miles was a fast learner and a hard worker and as promised he stopped picking fights.
there was new target in his life that filled him with determination. it wasn't until he turned 14 that he did his first mission as a prowler besides his uncle.
Stopping burglars from robbing a bank, it might have seemed simple but for Miles it was an important step toward a better future for himself and his city.
It was also at the time which his mother transfered him into a new highschool, Vision Acedmey.
He tried to convince his mother he was alright in his pervious one, since he was surrounded to his people and was closer to his uncle's apartment.
to no vain, she refused, explaining how this school was way better and it had excellent degrees in teaching Spanish. despite Miles assuring her he never missed a Spanish class in his old school, she still refused.
telling him how she heard there were excellent teachers for each subject and they teached with deep care unlike the previous ones.
So her son just gave out a long sigh, agreeing in the end if that what would make her glad.
Upon entering the new school with his luggage, he noticed how much 'elite' it was (to his disliking), the place was bigger and cleaner than his old one, also more crowded with students who were packed in different groups.
Miles was having a headache from his lack of sleep due to his mission last night, so he plugged in his earphones to block out those noises.
he kept dragging his stuff behind, his focus was on ground as he was in  deep thought, not noticing the small group Infront him, he bumped into someone.
The boy blinked taking off one of his earphones, hearing a gasp and a groan. he turned his head up at who he walked into, seeing three girls Infront of him, one of them was wiping off the red salsa and some food remainings off her skirt and blouse with one of her friend's napkin. the girl besides helping her.
While the third one whose burrito was on the ground, was glaring at him.
" Can't you watch where you are  going?? You ruined my friend's uniform! " she said.
Miles blinked, his eyes trailing from the glaring girl to your uniform. his expression was blank as you both stared at eachother before he turned to your angered friend.
"Didn't mean to. . " He was walking his way when the girl grabbed his shoulder.
" You won't even apologize?? That shit is hard to clean!"
a sigh was heard behind him as a soft voice spoke " Pacifica it alright. . It isn't that bad?" Your voice didn't sound sure however. Pacifica turned to you annoyed.
" No it is!! Everyone one is going to see it!" Miles turned frowning at the girl lifting a brow.
" Let go of me. . ." his voice was calm although uneasy.  Your friend frowned back, unmoved.
"Not until you give an honest apology to my friend, asshole" her eyes narrowed more, causing her thick dark eyelashes to almost touch eachother.
tense was starting to build up in the air till you moved to break Pacifica's grip off Miles, putting a friendly smile on your face. That smile that he would later fall for.
" He said he didn't mean to and it's okay! am sure I have spare of other uniforms in my dorm. " You put your friend's hand away, trying to calm her down.
Miles who was watching you, had his frown ease a bit, it was kind of surpsing how you seemed barely annoyed than your friend even when your clothes was the one that got ruined. He started to feel kind of guitly.
" sorry. . ." It was soft from him that you almost didn't catch it, his gaze was to your uniform once again. man, your friend wasn't wrong, it did seem hard to clean off.
You blinked at him for a moment then smiled.
" No harms done! It's alright." you squinted your eyes at his face as you titled your head, your hand was still on his shoulder.
". . . Somthin is wrong?" He asked lifting his eyebrow again.
"Ah sorry it just, you. . .seem new here. what's your name? " The annoyed gaze returned to Miles, knowing you meant no harm with a simple question, still he wasn't really into the mood.
" Yah am a new student. . . have to go now." he brushed your hand off as he made a subtle nod and turned on his heels away from you three.
You were left dumbfounded as you watched him leave, took you a while to look beside you and see your friend unimpressed gaze. She had her arms crossed.
" Seriously, [Name] ? You gonna flirt with this one, After what he did?"
You blinked as you let a confused chuckle. " I wasn't flirting with him?? Was just asking for his name to see if I recognized him somewhere."
"Ah yeah, as if you know EVERYONE here, sure!" She rolled her eyes as she used her tissues to clean her hand and her sleeves from the reamnings of her food. she mumbled under her breathe " What an idiot flirt."
" was not flirting?!"
" You kept staring at him tho" Your other friend added giggling. Making you roll your eyes.
as you made your ways to the bathroom, to help wash off your skirt. while your friends were chatting, you couldn't help but think of that strange boy who bumped into you three earlier, for some reason he seemed familiar.
like you recognized him somewhere, you thought maybe knowing his name would help?
a sigh escaped you 'he seemed really annoyed. . and sad?' you weren't sure if what you saw was right though and judging from how he looked around your age, you felt it wasn't going to be the last time you meet him.
and boy were you right?

98. Bah, Hamburger.
Is this just kinda the same story as All That Glitters? Yes. Is it also really good? Hell yes.
Highlight is, of course, Mama and Papa Tweedle. Harry absolutely KILLS it as Mama! He's got the moves. And Robert doing a George Jefferson/Fred Sanford impression is funny to me.
All the ghosts are so much fun too. A little bit of spoopy was appreciated. If we didn't have a Halloween episode right around the corner I would have drawn them too.
On a more serious note, I appreciate that when we have Fat Dum toward the end he focuses on how he's left out of the fun rather than just being fat. His unhealthy habits lead him to being unhealthy when he was older, which stopped him from playing games and enjoying his life more fully. Being fat doesn't necessarily stop you from doing things, but it can. They probably could have added in the fact that having a balanced diet and exercise is the best way to go, but they never quite got that edutainment formula right when it came to the more hot button topics they decided to tackle.
What I mean to say is, as someone who has been overweight their entire life, this episode doesn't feel like fat shaming to me. Maybe it would to others, depends how sensitive you are. The butt of the joke could have been "you don't want to be big as a barn, do ya?" but they decided to go with "you want a full life, you have to take care of yourself". I appreciate that message.

Life is Strange Theories/Headcanons that I take as canon at this point:
1: Nathan shot Chloe on accident. Nathan was taking Risperidone, a medication know to cause twitching as a side effect. He could’ve accidentally twitched and pulled the trigger when Chloe tried to push him away, causing him to shoot her. Immediately after this, he’s seen trying to wake her up and panicking. Not to defend him because he’s still done wrong things, but he immediately regrets pulling the trigger (and yes even if he did pull the trigger he would’ve panicked and tried to wake her up)
2: Rachel is the Doe. In the Junkyard, the Doe waits on top of where Rachel’s buried until Max comes close enough. Which could signify Rachel trying to lead Max to her body. In Chapter 4, when we find Rachel’s body, the Doe is also seen in the back, bowing it’s head and fading away. (Wiki says this was confirmed by the developers but I don’t know where)
3: Chloe’s Death. Some people say that Chloe didn’t need to die to save Arcadia Bay, and I partially agree. In the timeline where Jefferson shot and killed Chloe, the storm still rages on. The storm was not created because Chloe did not die, the storm was created because Max rewound time to stop Chloe’s death by Nathan. Max is the source of the storm, her using her powers disrupted time and space. So some people say had Max simply gone back in time and interjected before Chloe got shot, without using her powers, Chloe could’ve lived. However this is where I disagree, while I believe Max is the source of the Storm, not Chloe’s death, I believe Chloe was destined to die. Look just how many times Chloe did die during the course of the game: the bathroom, the junkyard (if you shoot the car), the train tracks, the AU where William lives, Jefferson, the AU when Max goes to San Francisco, and not including the big decision at the end that is 6 times. Chloe’s death was inevitable, and while I am a Bay over Bae truther, I believe if you chose to Save Chloe, the rest of their lives would be Max saving Chloe from dying again and again.

Cuddles and Therapy
A/N: The LIS brainrot continues, so it was the original game's turn. I'm still in love with Chloe and Max so I simply had to write for them. Art belongs to this amazing artist! Enjoy!
Summary: It's been six months since the events of Arcadia Bay and Max still struggles with nightmares and guilt. Chloe is determined to make her feel better.
Warnings: Spoilers for Life is Strange ending, hurt/comfort and fluff/tickling!
I'm not sure if it's still a spoiler since the game came out in 2015 but oh well
Word Count: 2822

“Chloe!” Max cried out as she shot up straight, startling both herself and Chloe who had been laying next to her on the bed.
“Woah Max! Are you okay?” Chloe asked, sitting up straight as she looked at her girlfriend. Max, like all the previous times when she had either awoken from a nightmare or had been yeeted back to reality after time traveling, immediately threw her arms around the teen and hugged her tightly.
“Oh Chloe!” She nearly sobbed, burying her face into Chloe’s shoulder. It had been six months since the events of Arcadia Bay, and for the entirety of those six months Max had been plagued with guilt, anxiety and fear, which resulted in some of her worst nightmares of her life. Even without her ability to rewind time, which she swore never to use again unless it meant saving Chloe, she was forced to relive the same horrible day over and over again in her dreams. Jefferson kidnapping and drugging her, the tornado swallowing Arcadia Bay whole and everyone in it. Everyone who she had doomed to die. But worst of all? The overwhelming feeling of loss when she thought about Chloe being killed. All that she had endured was nothing compared to the thought of living without Chloe.
Chloe was used to Max’ nightmares by now, and while she herself didn’t really suffer from them, she really hated seeing Max in such pain. So she gently wrapped her arms around her smaller girlfriend and rocked her back and forth while gently running her fingers through her brown hair. It took a few minutes, and plenty of sobs, but Max eventually calmed down. She buried her nose in the crook of Chloe’s neck one more time to inhale the comforting scent before pulling away. Chloe was alive. Chloe was here with her, and they were safe. Everything was okay.
“Sorry about that,” She mumbled, slightly embarrassed by the sudden outburst now that she had calmed down. Chloe playfully rolled her eyes.
“Of course you would say sorry for having a nightmare. C’mere,” She said, suddenly wrapping an arm around Max’ shoulder as she pulled the two of them down to the bed, spooning her from behind.
“Chloe!” Max giggled, the sound making Chloe’s heart flutter with joy. When Max tried to sit up again, two strong arms wrapped around her and trapped her in the hug.
“Nope, not happening. You’re staying right here with me,” Chloe declared, her breath tickling Max’ neck which made her giggle again.
“Oh no, what ever shall I do now?” She said sarcastically, yet smiled widely. She turned her head to place a kiss on Chloe’s arm, who hummed approvingly.
“Want to talk about it? About your nightmare?” Chloe asked, and Max’ smile faltered slightly. Even though she had calmed down and was happily laying in Chloe’s arms, the dream still left a bitter taste in her mouth. It was the same thing over and over again, however, and she didn’t want to bother Chloe with it. Again. So she shook her head.
“Nah. I’m fine,” She said, causing Chloe to huff in disbelief.
“Who do you think you’re fooling?” She said, and while Max couldn’t see it she could practically feel the roll of her eyes. Chloe released her from the hug, only to settle down on Max’ hips so she could look down at her. While her girlfriend was smiling at her, her eyes were still puffy and she could see the worry and sadness. So she merely raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t want to bother you with it. I struggle, that doesn’t mean you have to,” Max mumbled, avoiding eye-contact with the blue haired teen.
“Maxine Caulfield, you have about five seconds to tell me, or else…” Chloe smirked, reaching down to softly poke the front of Max’ ribs. The brunette yelped in surprise and couldn’t hold back her choked giggles, her hands immediately grabbing Chloe’s wrists. It was futile, however, as Chloe was much stronger than her.
“Okay okay I’ll tehehehell!” Max laughed, and Chloe stopped to look at her with a smug yet soft smile, to encourage her. She sighed. “It’s the same nightmare I always have. It starts with Jefferson… shooting you in the head, then kidnapping me to the dark room, and it ends with the town being destroyed.” Chloe’s jaw clenched as she thought of her mom, before quickly shaking her head. She’d mourn later, Max needed her now.
“I’m sorry you have to go through that again and again,” She said softly, not sure what else to say.
“No matter how you twist it, I’m still responsible for that storm. I’m the reason the entire town got wiped out. And while I took peace with my decision a while ago, I still feel so guilty for all those people that got killed by the tornado. But at the same time, if I didn’t use my powers or chose differently you would have died and I simply cannot have that, I can’t–”
“Hey shhh, it’s okay,” Chloe cooed, leaning in to press her forehead against Max’ while gently cupping her cheeks. It was so unfair that Max still suffered like this, especially after everything she’d been through. She couldn’t imagine being in Max’ position, having to make such terrible and difficult choices.
“It’s not okay, Chloe,–” Max sighed, yet before she could continue spiraling down that negative way of thinking, Chloe laid herself on top of her. This never failed to calm her down.
“You know what’s not okay? The fact that you had to make decisions like that. You’re 18, Max, you shouldn’t have been given a responsibility like that. You didn’t ask for your powers, but you got them anyway and know what? You handled it the best you could. You used them to help people and do good. You’re a good person Max, and you’re amazing. Don’t you ever forget it,” She said, cuddling into the younger teen.
“... Thank you, Chloe,” Was all she could say, wrapping her arms around her. Sometimes she really needed to hear those words out loud, especially after a nightmare like that. They cuddled in a comfortable silence for a while, until Max gently tapped Chloe’s side.
“As much as I love your cuddles, I can’t feel my legs like this,” She said lightheartedly. Chloe could immediately tell that Max was feeling slightly better, and smiled.
“Hmm I don’t know, I’m quite comfortable like this,” She grinned, earning a playful slap against her tattooed arm.
“So that means I’m going to be trapped in this hug-prison forever?” The brunette questioned with a raised brow. Thinking about it, it didn’t sound that bad after all.
“Depends. Are you going to turn back into Super Max, or remain Sulky Max?” Chloe teased as she sat herself on top of Max’ hips again, earning a gasp from the younger girl.
“I’m so going to hit you! I’ll have you know that I’m not sulking. And even if I was sulking, it’s not like I want to be in a sad or sour mood, y’know, my brain just doesn’t listen to my demands,” She huffed.
“Well, then maybe I should have a little chat with your brain,” Chloe said with a playful eye-roll and a smile. Max couldn’t help but laugh at that. At this point she was concerned Chloe’s eyes would roll out of her head if she kept it up.
“How do you think you’ll convince my brain if you don’t have one yourself to begin with?” Max smirked, making Chloe’s jaw drop.
“Oh getting sassy are we? Now I’m definitely having that chat! Say your prayers, Caulfield!” She grinned, wiggling her fingers in the air as she loomed over the brunette. Max gasped as she realized what Chloe was going to do.
“Wait! Chloe wait! No dohohon’t!” Max giggled as she held her hands up in defense. Chloe shook her head at her fondly.
“Max you’re so fucking adorable, I’m not even touching you yet! After all these years, you’re still you,” She smirked, easily slipping past Max’ defense to tickle her sides. The teen arched her back and immediately let out a steady stream of giggles.
“Chloehehehhe! Stohohop!” She cried out, grabbing hold of Chloe’s arms. Similar to before, it didn’t help her at all.
“Stop? Oh but I’m just getting started,” Chloe smiled widely, playfully clawing at her stomach. Despite wearing her pajamas, the thin cloth of her t-shirt provided zero to no protection at all.
“Aahhahahaa!” Max squealed and kicked her legs on the bed, trying to find a good grip so she could buck her girlfriend off. Oh who was she kidding, even without being a giggling mess it was impossible to beat Chloe in strength. She had no chance.
“All I need to do is flood your brain with happy thoughts, right? So I just gotta keep tickling you! I know you loved being tickled when we were kids, so I’m pretty sure you still love it now, right?” Chloe teased. That little!
“You’re sohohoho meehehehean!” Max whined at the teasing, hiding her blushing cheeks behind her hands. Chloe had always been too good at reading her, even without super powers. Chloe grinned at that.
“Oh you think I’m mean yet? Just you wait~” She promised, sending butterflies straight to Max’ stomach. Since Max had raised her arms to hide her face, she took the opportunity to flutter her nails under her arms.
“Nohoho! Not thehehehere!! NO! OHOHO CHLOEHEHE!” Max wheezed and immediately slammed her arms to her sides, trapping the invading hands in place. This was, of course, all part of Chloe’s plan, as she simply kept wiggling her fingers.
“Not there? But Max, my hands are stuck! I can’t move on if you keep them like this,” Chloe teased, wiggling her nails a bit faster into her hollows. Knowing she didn’t have any other option, Max gathered all her strength and lifted her arms up so Chloe could pull her hands free. To her surprise, she did pull her hands away, only to grab Max’ wrists and pin them down over her head with one hand.
“Oh come on! You tricked me!” She playfully cried out as quickly caught her breath, looking up at Chloe who smirked right back at her.
“Max, Max, Max. Not only are you just as ticklish as before, you also still fall for the same tricks I used when we had tickle fights as kids. Or maybe you fall for them because you know what’s coming, hm?” Chloe asked with a knowing smile and a raised brow. Max could swear she was blushing even harder than before.
“You have no idea what you’re talking about,” She mumbled while looking to the side of the bed to avoid Chloe’s stare. It really didn’t help that Chloe still remembered all those details, AND all her tickle spots. So unfair.
“Oh really? Because I think you still love being tickled by me, and I don’t think you want to win this fight,” Her girlfriend said smugly, her free hand slowly forming a claw while descending towards Max’ ribs. Said teen started to giggle in anticipation, yet her struggles were only half-hearted. They both knew Chloe was right.
“You suhuhuck! NononoOHOHOHOO!” Max quite literally jumped out of her skin as the hand gently shook her ribs, making her arch her back again. Oh god that tickled!
“Even if you don’t admit it, we both know it’s the truth. Luckily for you, I don’t need you to admit it, I just need you to laugh!” Chloe declared with an evil laugh.
“I CAAHAHAN’T! AAHAHAHA! CHLOEHEHE STOP! STOHOHOHOP!” Max howled with laughter as she finally couldn’t take it anymore. Chloe had let go of her wrists in favor of yanking her shirt up so she could tickle her stomach with both hands, her long nails raking up and down the exposed skin. While Max truly loved Chloe’s tickles, she really couldn’t handle this specific tickle attack right now. The older teen smiled and finally pulled her hands away.
“You okay there, Super Max?” She asked, brushing the hair out of Max’ face. The brunette panted yet held her thumb up, a smile present on her face.
“You still suck,” Max giggled, almost immediately shrinking under Chloe’s playful glare.
“Still sassy huh? You never learn, do you?” She said with mock disappointment as she shook her head, before leaning down to gently nibble at her girlfriend’s collarbones.
“Nohohoho! No! I’m sohohorry! I take it bahaahhack! I give I gihihihive!” Max was dying with giggles as Chloe placed ticklish kisses and nibbles all over her collarbones. Her blue hair only added to the playful attack as it brushed side to side against her neck, making her tap out instantly.
“That’s what I thought,” Chloe replied smugly as she pulled away, laying down on her side so she could look at Max with a softer expression. “Truce? I won’t tickle you anymore, I just want to hold you for a while,” She smiled, holding her arms open as an invitation.
“You’re a mean person, Chloe Price. Lucky for you I love you, so you’ve been forgiven for all your crimes,” Max said with a giggle as she crawled into Chloe’s hug.
“Oh lucky me, what would I do without your mercy?” Chloe chuckled, idly tracing her fingers over Max’ back. “Can I ask you a question? It’s… it’s kinda serious though,” She added, which made the brunette look into her eyes.
“You can ask me anything,” She assured, placing a hand on Chloe’s arm.
“Well it’s just… I’ve seen you struggle time and time again with all that has happened, and I just keep wondering, what if you hadn’t been put under so much pressure back then? I mean, not that I’m not grateful or anything, it meant the world to me! It’s just that–” One moment Chloe had been asking the question while hugging her girlfriend, next moment said girlfriend was on top of her.
“Chloe Price, tell me you’re not about to ask me what I think you’re about to ask me.” Max said sternly, looking into her eyes.
“I–, uhm, maybe?” Chloe said, her cheeks heating up slightly. She wasn’t used to seeing Max like this. “I just can’t help but think that all those people in Arcadia Bay deserved a chance to live, more than I did. Hell, I almost died like four times in one week. So… if you could go back in time, knowing what you know now, would you make a different choice?” She asked. This question had been burning inside of her for a long time now, and she simply had to ask.
“Chloe, I want you to know that even though I suffer from the consequences, I do not regret a single choice I made. You’re my first priority, Chloe, you’re all that matters to me. Yes of course I feel horrible for everyone that got caught in that storm, but… but you’re simply more important to me. I’d sacrifice the world to save you, I don’t care what I’d have to do. We’re meant to be together, you and I. And if I had the opportunity to make a different choice, I wouldn’t. I want to be with you, and only you,” Max said, gently holding the sides of Chloe’s face as she looked into her blue eyes. Chloe remained silent for a while before pressing her forehead against Max’, closing her eyes as a single tear ran down her cheek.
“I’m yours for however long you want me, Max. I’ll be by your side forever. I promise,” She said. The brunette leaned in to place a kiss on her cheek, her thumb gently rubbing the tear away.
“I’ll keep you to that promise, girlfriend,” Max said with a smile.
Another comfortable silence as they cuddled, with the occasional sniffle from either of them. This was their way of healing over all the traumatic events they’d been through. Therapy was way too expensive. Max broke the silence again, this time with a chuckle.
“I didn’t know you were this mushy,” She teased, earning yet another eye-roll from the blue haired teen and a flick to her forehead.
“I’m not mushy, shut up. If anyone’s mushy, it’s you,” She mumbled, yet smiled.
“Well in that case we’re both mushy then. Speaking of mushy,” Max sat up next to Chloe, looking at her with the most mischievous expression Chloe had ever seen. “It’s about time I had a chat with your brain.”
“Wh– wait, Max no!” Chloe cried out, yet didn’t even have time to defend herself as her girlfriend pounced on her. Max was determined to remove all the self-doubt out of Chloe, and get some revenge while she was at it.
Life was still very much strange, but at least it was also good for now.

Fun kind of cracky shellshocked/shellcrime idea here.
42 Miles and 42 Mikey (who is like more morally grey for this story's purpose) fall on accident likely caused by Mikey's mystics going haywire into the regular 1610 Miles' dimension.
It causes chaos.
Mainly, 42 Miles tries to restrain his Mikey from comitting too many war crimes as it custom for any Rise Turtle stranded in another universe to do.
So they cause a lot of confusion with an evil Mikey-double and a new (maybe mystic) Prowler running around and kind of killing criminals.
Poor 1610 Miles was not prepared to deal with an evil version of himself and his unhinged boyfriend today.
1610 Mikey on the other hand thinks that their alters are literally so cool (I mean look at their outfits, Miles!) and befriends himself imediatly.
I dunno, maybe we can put some sad shit in like 42 Miles getting to meet 1610 Jefferson Davis but I think it would be mostly a small fun story.
Ok, I slept a night over this and concluded that it would be even funnier/heartbreaking if shellcrime got transported to Gwen's universe.
And he heads to Gwen's school because is not missing out on more school and Gwen thinks he's her world's version of Miles Morales and tries to befriend him.
And 42 Miles is just like: Who tf are you
And of course, Gwen sees the signs of secret identity and eventually finds out he's the Prowler and it gets kinda heartbreaking with 42 Miles having to explain that he's from another universe and he is kinda fucked up and definitly not her Miles and has to go home and that yes, this is slightly unhinged boyfriend, no I don't know if your Miles gets a boyfriend too.
(Why is 42 Mikey not present at Gwen's school?
1. No cloaking broach.
2. He never went to school, why start now
3. He somehow still managed to get expelled the first day.)
