CHAPTER ONE back from rehab

SYNOPSIS the beginning of a teenage girl named y/n who is fresh out of rehab but doesn't intend to stay clean.

This is the first chapter I'm ever writing, I took some inspo from episode 1 but I'm going to have to cut each episode into fourths because I really don't want to spend a whole week trying to finish a whole episode and school work. Sloshing and swimming around your own private, primordial pool; Then one day, for reasons beyond your control, you were continuously and repeatedly crushed...

Over..and over.. again by the cervix of your mother, M/n.

You put up a good fight, but eventually lost, for the first time, but not the last.

You were born 3 days after 9/11, your mother and father spent two days in the hospital, holding you under the soft glow of the television, watching those towers fall over and over again, until the feeling of grief gave away to numbness.

And then, without warning, a middle-class childhood in the American suburbs.

You were sitting at the dinner table with your mother, M/n, and Father, F/n. But it appeared something else had gotten your attention, a set of numerous lights above the dinner table, in which you wanted to count.

"Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen.."

" What are you looking at y/n?"

"What are you doing? ..Y-y/n look at me."

You haven't remembered much from the ages of eight to twelve. Just that the world moved fast, and your mind moved slow.

"Does anyone have an idea of what a perception might be?"

And every now and then, if you focused on the way you breathed...

You'd die.

"Slow down, just breathe"

Until every second of the day, you'd find yourself trying to outrun your anxiety.

"What's wrong Y/n?"

"I'm just fucking exhausted"

Coming down to the kitchen, you could hear the small talk between your mother and younger sister, S/N.

"You said the doctor was in our network. How can he suddenly be out of network?"

"I can't afford it."

"Did you see that video of the girl who got acid thrown at her face?"

"What? No.."

"It's pretty fucked up.."

"Mom do you know where the tampons are?"

"In my bathroom, right under the sink."

And at one point, you'd make a choice of who you are and what you want.

"Alright Gia, let's go"

"Why do the co-payments cost $300?"

"Y/n did you eat breakfast?"

".."

"What's with the glasses?"

"What glasses?"

You just happened to show up one day, without a map or a compass..

"Attention students, we need to lockdown."

..Or to be honest, anyone capable of giving on iota of good fucking advice.

And I know it all seems sad but guess what? You did not build this system up, nor fuck it up yourself.

But then it happens. That moment where your breath starts to slow. And every time you breathe, you breathe out all the oxygen you have.

Then everything stops: Your heart, your lungs, then finally, your brain. And everything you feel, you wish, and want to forget, it all just sinks.

And then suddenly... you give it air again, give it life again.

You remember the first time it happened, where you were so scared you wanted to call 911. Go to the hospital and be kept alive by machines and apple juice. But you didn't want to look like an idiot, and you didn't want to fuck up everyone else's night.

And now overtime, that's all you've wanted.. those two seconds of nothingness.

You spent a good portion of summer before junior year in rehab. God granted you the serenity to accept things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

"Y/N," your sister yelled from afar, greeting you after your long leave. You smiled, and whilst running up to her, tried to continue the conversation with your younger sibling.

"Hey, Come here!"

"How are you?"

"Good, I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"Look at you, are you growing?"

"No."

Looking over, you see your mother standing by your family car.

"Hey," you yelled out to her, only to receive a small smile from her.

And with that. you knew it was your time to go.

"I'm very happy for you Y/n. You're about to start a brand-new chapter," Your mother says while driving you and your sister to school. You looked at her with a smile, then turned your attention back to the car window.

You had no intentions of staying clean. And yet, Jirou just moved into town.

"There's some new girl in town that I think you'll be friends with," Shoto said, with you standing beside him in his store.

"Who?"

"Shit, I don't know. She came in looking all punk rock and shit; So I'm thinking to myself, like, 'look like somebody Y/n would be friends with'."

Which was sort of a dead-on observation for Shoto, who's not normally revolving in the same direction as planet earth.

"So how long have you been back?" He asked.

"About five days."

"And how are you feeling?"

"I mean, ever since I gave my life over to my lord and savior Jesus Christ, things have been, like, really good."

"Word? That's what's up," You chuckled at his snarky remark, giving him a small smile.

"I'm fucking with you," you said whilst laughing, "It was a joke."

"Shit, hey, I don't judge," he defended, hands raising to just above his chest.

"But for real, is Deku in the back?"

"Are you serious?" Shoto questioned, seeming very disappointed in you.

"What, you think cause' I went to rehab I stayed clean?"

"I mean, ain't that the point?" he asks.

"Yeah, well, the world is coming to an end, and I haven't even graduated high school yet."

You gave Shoto one more smile before going to Deku, whilst Shoto stared at you the entire way there; There was a hint of sadness in his eyes, but since you were too busy looking for Deku, you didn't see.

You opened one of the doors of the refrigerators, leading you right to him with a bowl of fruit loops,"I thought your ass was dead," he said one he saw your appearance.

"And I thought you had Asperger's till I realized your just a prick," you barked back.

"This a fickle industry, y'all come and go. I'm just trying to stack my cash, pay off our mortgage," he said while pulling out a bunch of plastic bags out of a microwave.

"So what the fuck do you want?" You gave him a knowing look before he handed you needed.

"You sure you don't want to try something new?" He asks you.

"Like what?"

"2C-T-2, 2C-T-7, and 5-MeO-DIPT."

"I'm sorry I have no fucking idea of what you just said."

"It doesn't matter," he stated, "but this shit, is fucking lit."

"What is it?"

"N-diisopropyl-5-methoxytryptamine. It's a fast-acting psychedelic."

Got some similarities to LSD, but with, like, key differences. Not as visual as shit, but definitely a sense distorter.

"What's wrong?" That same dark purple hair girl questioned.

"I'm just so happy," you responded back.

"I don't know, this shits been going off in Tampa, and mad people like to fuck with this," Deku continued on with his descriptions with the drug.

"Okay. Yeah, why not."

"That'll be 120."

"Oh uh, Shoto said he'd spot me."

"Shoto doesn't spot nobody."

"Yeah, well, it's a post-rehab discount, so you should ask him."

"I will go ask him, cause' I know your full of shit."

Those were the last words he said before you walked out. Those were the last words you heard before you saw the same two boys in freshman year.

“cmon mikey, get outta the apartment for once in your life that isn’t to go to headquarters!” rindou pouts at his boss.

manjiro really didn’t know what he expected when he decided all the executives should move into a massive penthouse together. sure it was good for his health to be around others and not coop himself up in agony, but he didn’t exactly like the idea of being dragged out whenever his lackeys felt like it.

“not intrested, leave me alone.” manjiro says, attempting to make his way to his bedroom. to go see a band he rarely listened to? who goes to a concert when you don’t give a shit about them to begin with?

sure he’s heard all about the gorgous female lead singer and the hot as fuck guitarist. (Y/N), right? manjiro couldn’t remember nor did he really care to.

“but i bought us all front row tickets to see Black Rose so we could witness how hot Hiroko Asato issss” ran attempted to persuade the stubborn bonten leader.

it wasn’t working.

“i’m looking forward to seeing her outfits up close. from what i’ve heard, she wears pure designer.” kokonoi adds onto the conversation.

“cmon mikey, it’s only one night. if you hate it that much i can drive you back to the penthouse.” kakucho, ever the resolver, bargains with the pouting leader.

“…” manjiro stays silent. ‘it’s just one night i guess, plus it means that i’d have them off my ass for at least a month’ he reasons with himself.

“alright, let’s get going then.” he says, the rest of the executives silently fist bumping the air rn.

the wait to get into the stadium was a bitch, however with a little bit of force, the bonten executives managed to get inside ahead of time.

koko ordered the drinks, kakucho and mochi reserved the spots and the haitani brothers were chatting up some vip ladies in scandalous dresses. meanwhile mikey is . . .

“oh, hey! are you lost..?”

you do your best to keep cool with the fact that the leader of the biggest mafia syndicate in japan was in your personal changing room.

“the show doesn’t start for another 2 hours, can i help you to your seat? i wouldn’t mind.” you offer, keeping careful of how you talk.

the hotshots of bonten’s identities had been long revealed to the public, however people were too afraid to really report their whereabouts to authorities. many stories of people who had revealed their location that day were swiftly eliminated, even before the news of their position were made public.

and so, knowing that the tatoo on this rather depressed looking man’s neck was a bad sign, you decided to just adhere to whatever he might need.

you were already dressed, the iconic vivienne westwood jewellery hanging from every inch of your body. each member of your band had a significant brand to them, so it wasn’t uncommon for you to be seen decked out in the iconic space themed jewellery. you had always loved the style, and it seemed the mafia boss was equally as intrigued in your designer pieces. you even had their logo imprinted onto your guitar.

“no, i’m okay.” manjiro only replied, his eyes not leaving the necklace that rested gently on your chest.

he didn’t really know why he snuck into the private quarters of the band. perhaps it was to escape his ever-so-annoying underlings?

or perhaps, a little part of him wanted to catch a glimpse of you.

apart from the obvious favourite of the band, the lead singer AS well as the only girl in the band, you were a favourite among listeners.

you had women and men alike screaming your name and begging for skin-on autographs. despite being a dude yourself, you had other guys begging you to sign their tailbone (which you had to politely decline).

manjiro understood why, as you were definitely easy on the eyes. your amazing sense of fashion and your toned body didn’t help.

“uhm.. are you feeling okay? you seem a bit dazed.” you question. in reality, the man was just dead on staring into your soul, scaring the living shit outta you.

“yes, i’m alright.” he finally responds.

“here, take a seat.” you finally break the silence. why was he here? you didn’t think that a guy like him would have time to sit around some flashy concert. sure, you were a big band but let’s be real, shouldn’t he be at his headquarters shooting peoples heads in?

alas, you knew better then to question it.

and so, you order in some glasses of alcohol and begin chatting. you spoke about your career, how your band came to be and about dreams.

you aren’t entirely sure why you were discussing this sort of shit with a random mafia leader who could probably give less then a shit about you, however he seemed almost enamoured with your conversation.

you felt bad for talking his ear off, especially since you now only had about 45 minutes till showtime and you STILL hadn’t tuned your guitar, however he didn’t seem to care.

everytime you stopped talking, manjiro almost.. glared? at you? as if he was offended that you stopped talking.

unbeknownst to you, manjiro loved listening to you talk. the way you worded things and your voice overall was heavenly to his ears.

the piercings that decorated your skin were appealing to the man. the chain from your ear to you lips especially looked so… attractive to him.

“(Y/N) C’MON, WE’RE ON IN 10” you could hear toru, your drummer, scream out to you.

“SHIT! MY GUITAR” you freaked. HOW did you forget your guitar??

“i’ll come visit after the show.” manjiro says, exiting the room.

“oh, oka-“ before you had the chance to finish your sentence, he vanished.

well, now you couldn’t WAIT for the show to finish!

after the show had ended, you packed up the rest of your gear. your manager had popped in and taken your stage clothes back to the studio before bidding farewell.

as you sat around in a pair of baggy jeans and a t-shirt (inspo - don’t feel like you have to imagine this.) , you paitently waited for the white haired mafia boss to sneak back into your private room.

why were you even waiting? he was probably bullshitting you anyways. why would someone as busy as manjiro sano give a fuck about what you were doi-

“yo.” a cheeky grin graces his face, looking back at you.

note to self : doubt gets you nowhere!

“hey manjiro, enjoy the show?” you ask the man, automatically getting comfortable in his presence. you didn’t exactly know why you felt so relaxed around him, considering his rather infamous reputation, but you just did.

“yeah, you’re certainly the best in your band though. could go solo and still be famous if you wanted.” he replies, automatically heating your face up.

“cmon (Y/N), let’s get going already. i’m tired.” he winged to you in a childlike manner.

“okay.. WAIT—HUH?? where am i going?” you shriek, having no idea that he actually PLANNED to leave this place with you in tow.

“back to my place. duh. i don’t just talk to anybody for fun unless i plan to shoot them in the head an hour later.” he responds in a nonchalant voice.

this boy is gonna be the death of you, literally or figuratively? only time will tell.

regardless of how much you declined the offer, the man ends up dragging you out to the expensive limo that was owned by bonten. not only were you dragged into the car, you were squished in between the boss and 2nd in command of the syndicate, haruchiyo sanzu.

not that you were complaining, the pink haired dude was hot as fuck.

there were many things that occurred that night :

• at 1am, you arrived at their shared headquarters, completely baffled that they all lived together. you decided that you would NOT mention anything that might offend anyone in the room right now.

• at 2am, you were drinking alcohol more pricey then your stage guitar. you weren’t by any means on the poor side, but these men lived a new version of luxury.

• at 3am, you were playing pool with the haitani brothers and sanzu. you lost. miserably.

• at 4am, you were half naked and making out with manjiro sano on his own bed. you didn’t expect the high and mighty manjiro sano to be so submissive in the bedroom.

Honestly I just wanna get something off my chest. Someone asked me if I'm leaving or using a new blog. Both? I made a new blog, but somehow the thought of coming back here still feels so uncomfortable. And I realised it's because I addressed and worked through the 'hate' part and all.

But... there is also an issue I have had with my own readers that I didn't expect to have.

Look, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having your kinks and all. My blog itself is pretty crazy.

But... it's fictional.

It seems not only 'haters' can't separate reality from fiction, but sometimes readers too.

There is a reason I have never called my blog a "kink blog" (again, nothing wrong with that!), but rather stuck to horror.

I have talked about this before but as my interest in darker shows and works grew, I wanted to write a horror story and I realised I had no idea how to, because I have spent all my life writing pg 13 romance and fantasy 😭

I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. So I jumped into deep waters with requests, hoping for inspiration, and for the first time tried writing horror AND smut.

I love storytelling, I love exploring new things in writing, so even though the smut part is so big on my blog, I always give my characters personalities and back stories (at least I try lmao) and dive into their mental state because... I love writing.

And I did always want my blog to be a safe space for everyone... but that's including myself.

And I feel like some people just.... I'm sorry I'm just gonna say it.

What do you mean you want a fic based on the The Burning Sun Scandal. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. 😭 What do you mean you want me to write about your cousin. 😭😭

Am I crazy??? That's a REAL tragedy, guys, and it's so fucking upsetting and disrespectful to the survivors. And no one even stops to think the author might be upset or triggered bc they're a survivor too or bc this is, again, A REAL TRAGEDY????

It's like watching murder on a screen. It doesn't affect you the same way a real life murder with a real victim would! But it might still be too upsetting or violent so warnings exist for that.

"Um you write non con that happens in real life too" absolutely. But I am not getting inspo from REAL CASES involving REAL PEOPLE and real trauma. The people, places, events, are MADE UP, and if any feelings or situations are inspired by experiences, they're MY OWN experiences, and even then my work is far from reality.

It's OK to make mistakes and learn. I'm just so so so tired of dealing with people who don't care to learn and it almost makes me feel bad for writing here. I know I can't be responsible for my readers and I can't control who follows me. But just.

okay okay!!! so for turning point scenes i REALLY wanna draw the death of the king ( adriero , their son!) we kinda have this doodled out but its old (and the wrong son, we changed who dies so its out dated 💔)

it leads to iiros's character and his role (kidnapped, adriero's replacement!)

for colors its kind of a mix between symbolism and just what i like!

gala is mainly purple, for his affinity for night and sleep, originally we were gonna make him a shiny white like a star, but purple is akin to arrogance and childishness which was more his personality along with emotional!

iiros is primarily yellow because of his connection to day and warmth, but we used it also as a way to show he's a light, or like hope! and after looking into it its also a color for mourning!

izuna's is harder because we tried to appropriate his pre design into this one but nothing really fit he's been redesigned like 5 times so rn he's just for aesthetic lol, except his red which we used as a nod to his preexisting design, to mean passion and anger! and his white hair to show his loss of color/happiness!

euyco is really under developed but plays a HUGE role in their world! hes the catalyst that starts EVERYTHING and most character development! but he's one we don't draw much cuz bros dead, but i wanted to give him a bit of a free spirit vibe! the green and red for rebirth and passion, while the blue for flexibility and change

and flura is soooo aesthetic mainly because PRETTY!!! but!!!! his roses are his symbolism >:), they're yellow for danger and caution they draw attention to his face and his eyes (he's our antagonist EHEHEHEHEE)

okay last thing and I'll stop!!! i aint really got a evil version or anything considering flura is already the 'bad guy" and looks how he does, but i DO have a concept of izuna if flura hadn't caused euyco's death >:)c

omg yes i do have another ask in my inbox from an anon that also wanted kickoff geto headcanons and i’ve been saving it for when i can think of some 🤣 i’m planning on writing a spinoff series for him some day so i wanted to give it some serious thought aaa

i can share some notes i’ve thought of so far tho (very loose n subject to change):

1. kickoff geto n gojo have been friends since they’ve basically been in diapers, they know each others families very well n gojo’s mother dotes on him just as much as she dotes on gojo lol. he’s basically a second son to her haha

2. kickoff geto became interested in soccer when gojo’s dad took him n gojo to a pro soccer game once when they were kids (core memory bc they got to skip school to go lol). he wasn’t insanely infatuated w the sport like gojo was but he tagged along in practices n tryouts n stuff then realized he was pretty decent at it

3. lol this is kinda hyper specific to the spinoff series i had in mind, but i can imagine kickoff geto has a loooooot of younger siblings. like i’m talkin maybe he’s the eldest of like six or seven kids. it’s the reason why he’s kinda calm n collected n also pretty observant (i.e. when he told reader to be safe when he saw her going to meet kai) it’s also why he’s not all that alarmed by gojo’s idiocracy at times cuz he’s used to being around toddlers LOL ✋🏼😭 but yea all eldest siblings i know kind of have the personality i’ve given him w sorta the patience n softspoken but vigilant etc so this made sense to me. also he literally raises two kiddos in the show so i see it fitting HAHA

What does your writing process look like?

it’s honestly not super exciting or even all that rigid. i generally don’t write in silence but it kinda varies what i listen to or watch in the background. for some things it’s more relevant but most of the time it’s just random spotify playlists.

i do generally start at the beginning and just go straight through. only on much longer things do i skip around (notably smbr was not written start to finish). i’d guess like 60% of the published ones were written in almost a single sitting or at least in a day or two where that’s the only thing i was working on. i often have sort of a starting point and an end point and just see how to get there. i used to plot things out a ton but i don’t really do that so much but im also generally not working on things longer than one shots.

i do keep sort of like graveyard docs where it’s lines or scenes that didn’t quite fit in something but i might find a use for later. i also generally have like a huge pile of wips that are in varying stages of development and i’ll flip through them from time to time.

i also really like running or going for a long walk before writing. and i also really like working on a stationary bike while i write (i have a lil desk set up) i almost always write at home and don’t really go elsewhere when im writing.

of note i often drink when i write smut for whatever reason. i find smut the hardest to write (it’s the logistics!). angst is easily the easiest for me especially when i have the character voice down (ie arizonas angst is easier than callie’s) i do move around a lot when im writing a scene that has some sort of physicality bc i want it to be at least somewhat logical.

i do kind of a lot of research even if it’s just for a small detail that isn’t really relevant for the broader plot. like if i make a reference to calzona watching a show together, it’s not just bc they needed to watch a show it’s bc i’ve actually gone in and checked what could possibly be on tv that day. and same for pretty much everything. like the most throwaway detail and ill do a bit of research for it. i often have full backstories and all that for details but i dont tend to dump it all in. i kinda consider it like the middle name conundrum - ie its common in fics to talk a lot about middle names and give lots of meaning to them etc but that’s generally not how people are. so while i might have an entire backstory and details and reasons for arizonas middle name in a fic odds are i’ll never include them even if i have that info.

it’s rare that i have a title for something before or even while i’m writing it. i think smbr (“and i’ll be yours to keep”) and “he ain’t heavy” are some of the only ones i can think of that i had the title in mind really early on. most of the time i finish something and then as im uploading into ao3 im flipping through playlists for title inspo. id guess like 95% of my titles come from music, i’ve never really pulled lines from within the fic or anything. i do often have a running note with tags for fics bc i think they’re funny

i don’t use a beta and never really have. i do have a couple people who i’d say get kinda previews of what im working on but id say they’re more of a vibe check than really editing content. i dont really have a robust editing process myself. like i might skim through something a bit but honestly its much more a full send situation. if theres like a glaring error ill retroactively fix it but im pretty good about editing as i go and using spell check etc.

i do almost always upload to ao3 before ffn bc there’s more to do on ao3 and then i can use aspects of that for ffn.

once it’s uploaded i’ll probably keep the tab open for ages and will absolutely refresh it like a mad man to see how it’s doing.

i know some authors say that replying to comments on ao3 is just a way to boost comments but i strongly disagree with that and do genuinely try to reply as many comments as i can. although im not always perfect about it once we’re like a month out from when the story was published.

this is a very chaotic description of my writing process but i’d say my writing process is somewhat chaotic anyway

Thanks so much to @orphanheirs for tagging me; this looks so fun and I loved your answers. I'll be responding for my main WIP, Haven!

What's the first part of your WIP that you created?

Easily my characters. Heather has existed since I was 12 years old, and Beau and Erin have more or less existed since I was 6! I would just daydream about them getting into random situations to pass the time, really. I'd tried putting them in badly written middle school fantasy stories before realizing that coming of age was the most natural thing for them.

If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

Oh, I have a whole playlist for songs I'd want to be used! I honestly haven't decided on an intro song, but I definitely know the theme song and end credits song. I'd consider the theme to be Last Chance by CHPTRS, both the vibe and the lyrics are just too perfect. "This could be my last chance" is pretty much the whole thing behind Haven, AND the line of "hold me in the grip of your arms" becoming more and more desperate because of how much Heather misses her brother and wants to cherish this miracle of being with him again... I would be lying if I said that hadn't made me cry a few times. Though the lyrics are more depressing than I'd want for the end credits, for that category, I would still easily choose i have no sense of what home is by ativansocial. It feels like a childhood hug on a warm, dark summer night where things aren't okay, but they will be, which is exactly how I'd want the end to feel.

What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

Oh, can I answer for multiples WIPs? Because Heather is definitely one, but I could easily go on about Celio and Charity too lol. For Heather, the top thing is she's just a really raw person who's easy to relate to, to the point it may even be uncomfortable for the reader sometimes. I think a good example of me trying to utilize this would be an excerpt I wrote where she's reliving the time she was 13ish, Beau was still in the hospital for his car accident, and no one was letting her go see him yet. There's a paragraph or two describing how she's jealous of him for his accident, thinking how she wishes she'd end up in the hospital so people would get her flowers, too. This is the kind of thing where we know it's not great to feel that way, but most of us have probably experienced something similar. We want our own traumas to be louder so they're "heard", and we may especially lack that understanding of other people's issues as children. And that's a big part of Heather's journey: gaining understanding. She doesn't always think or do or say good things, but you get what place she's coming from.

I've decided since that was a big paragraph, I won't get into my other characters, but anyone's free to lmk and I'll drop some info!

What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?

My first thought is Omori since that was a big inspiration when this project was still new. This is also an obscure movie, but if anyone's watched the movie As You Are, I think they'd like both Haven and my other story, The Day You Left. Honestly, I don't consume enough media to say in too much detail. If you like your heart being ripped out, you'll probably like Haven.

What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

The plotting!! I always know character arcs first and then weave a plot around where I want people heading, but I've been out of inspo lately, I guess? Or just lazy about brainstorming. That's most likely. I know the most major story beat of Beau's accident but that's practically it, though there's probably potential behind giving Heather some extra new childhood experiences, and being decisive on stuff (aka trauma) for Erin. Not too much is going on with Erin at this moment.

Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Unfortunately not! For some reason, despite being a mega animal lover irl, I've rarely been good at giving my characters pets. If they aren't directly relevant to plot or theme, I usually end up forgetting about them over and over until I decide to just scrap them. It wouldn't work for Heather and Beau anyways; I know for sure Heather's probably tried to bring an animal home, and Beau would've told her it's too much responsibility.

How do your characters travel/get around?

Heather does have her learner's permit, but she doesn't get that much use out of it before she's sent to her child self's body and can't reach the pedals lol. One of her big hobbies is rollerskating, so she mainly relies on that to get around during the story's events. Meanwhile, for Beau, he avoids driving himself anywhere since his accident, so he usually hitches a ride from Erin or someone else.

What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

That's a good question, actually. Kind of just anything and everything, but like I said for the other question, extra plot beats and fleshing out Erin are my main priorities. I know who Erin is, but I only have vague ideas of why she is the way she is. I also get really indecisive with how I want her to be influencing the story exactly (sometimes she's a Heather antagonist, sometimes she's a helper, sometimes she's both), so nailing down core stuff for her would also automatically nail down her role and make that easier.

What aspects (tropes, maybe?) do you think will draw your audience in?

Coming of age is usually pretty grounded in reality and maintains a fairly casual/upbeat vibe even when some not-so-great events happen (at least in my experience with it), so I think people will be curious about the more intense subject matter, how I personally answer difficult questions, and the surreal twist on the genre. I use the word surreal a lot because I wouldn't personally call Heather suddenly waking up in the past "fantasy"'? The narrative isn't about explaining how it works in the first place, it's just supposed to be...weird lol. I also always lean a lot on complex character development, so I'm hoping that, from the blurb, people will think "there should be interesting characters in a story like this" and read it for that.

What are your hopes for your WIP?

My biggest goal is to make it a fully operational interactive fiction game! The reader would be playing as Heather, putting both her and Beau's fates in their hands for that extra stress. The game could even include some art, too, but I'd have to see what feels right once I actually got started.

SRY THIS TOOK SO LONGGGG i. forgort BUT HERE R A FEW !!! :D some of these are my own and some of these are me parroting things ive heard from the haunted discord that i love (u should totally join the discord btw its fun i can give an inv to anyone not already there if anyone wants one!!)

-Drakes issues regarding tone and reading the room, such as 1) his default mode of speaking being thru sarcasm (no hes really not always trying to be rude, thats just how he communicates 😭), and 2) cracking jokes or quips at inappropriate times (like when graysons house was burning down and drake was all like “wow grayson sure does love his secret hatches lawl” and “he should really rethink his escape routes for next time haha!” like drake this is NOT THE TIME). Im not saying hes NOT sassy or rude (because he totally is <3) but like. its not ALWAYS ON PURPOSE OK LMAO he is autistic 🫶

-somewhat related to this is that i hc that he says cheesy lines like “erm… hes RIGHT behind me isnt he” and “um guys, you MIGHT wanna take a look at this…” all the time, and he does so bcs he repeats phrases hes read in books (or from movies/shows he saw before traveling to the future or whatever) a lot. either that or he just Says That Stuff which is almost funnier

-drakes sleeping schedule SUCKS dude and a big parta that is cuz enderman are nocturnal and his internal clock is all messed up. (the water up on his mountain canonically helps him sleep tho im pretty sure?)

-his bodys kinda awkward to move around in, and hes always tripping over his feet or bumping into stuff (hes just like me fr….)

-this ones odd, but the subspecies of enderman that drake is fused(??) with have rings all over their body that they use to light up dark areas (such as caves), and to communicate (blinking lights like fireflies, bright flashes to intimidate others, are dim when sick, etc). Theyre able to control this using their natural magic or whatever. HOWEVERRR drake is unable to control his himself! His rings are stuck at a set brightness, and he cant “turn them off”, leading him to always be expelling a small but steady amount of magic. This is part of why he runs out of mana faster than other magic users/enderman, and is part of why he tries not to waste his mana when possible.

-related to above, hes not ab magic doesnt last very long, but is very volatile and powerful in bursts. this is the OTHER reason he doesnt use magic willy nilly .. he has to learn how to harness it properly or else he might end up hurting people by accident (this might literally be canon but i thought id mention it anyway)

-in the haunting one, hes always stating things abt himself that we never actually get to see (like when he calls himself the builder, or good at parkour, or when armen said that he had a problem with breaking windows???? 😭) so i like to think that those are just collins memories slipping thru the cracks, and those memories dont rly belong to/are about drake at all. theres probably other shared fuzzy memories he has from collin too (like ruby shire perhaps) so thats super fun to play with!! I think this might actually be also canon but yk

-ARMEN iiii love this guy ok so i love to hc that, after hes revived/saved (IF you want to go that route!), he comes back not dead, but not quite alive either…. hes like sorta half and half to me lol. or maybe hes alive, but coming back to life has some side effects (like being cold all the time for example). Hes also suuuper sleepy all the time after hes saved LET HIM SNOOZE dude.

as much as it pains me, I also love the hc that armen comes back with his memory wiped (i think this is close to where the intended canon was supposed to head as well!). You can either go the “his memory is totally wiped, which effectively makes him a new person” route, the “his memory is wiped back to the fall into the lava, right before HB possessed him” route, or the “his memory gets wiped to before HB was involved in his life whatsoever” route. I like all 3 options aaaah idk what my favorite is!!! i’ll probably talk in depth abt these in a different post later bcs the fact that it adds more parallels between him and collin/drake makes me insane. either way he will sometimes have unexplainable deja-vu and things will feel familiar to him.

-armen is super cold all the time (always wearing sweaters and stuff) while drake is super warm all the time (always wearing thin clothes. but this is cuz hes always expelling some sorta magical energy involuntarily, so when he runs outta mana he gets cold as well) this isnt important or anything i just like it :3c

-i like to think that despite his affinity towards it before the fall, he tries to avoid combat & conflict when possible post-possession/revival. very “uhh im a lover not a fighter haha ..” (<- could kick your butt if he tried) vibes. or maybe he lost all combat ability post revival and totally sucks now !! either way man just wants to chill (he is traumatized)

-MIA shes lowkey scared of being on the water after her and her sisters shipwreck, the day she was captured by the empire. she probably slips back into familiarity when they take over that airship one time tho- maybe she gets an airship of her own in the future o:? haunted group sky pirate crew when 🤨???

-along with magic, she also GETS INTO ALCHEMY/CHEMISTRY !!! its like.. magic ??? without needing to provide any ACTUAL magical power yourself?? thats so fucking sick ok. She and drake do magicy-sciencey experiments together and they end up blowing stuff up a lot. despite what drake says, they BOTH enjoy the chaos.

-mia and armen would be BEST. FRIENDS. i think abt mia armen friendship literally all the time they would be so chaotic and thoughtful with each other i love mia armen friendship sm. maybe mia helps style his hair like hers since its grown out later :] They are so sibling core to me

-related to both yhings above, she shares her love of learning with armen. They learn tons of random stuff together :D chemistry archeology history magic biology etc. Mia loves learning anything she can get her hands on, and armen feels the need to learn everything he missed while he was gone.

(sidenote: if he comes back with completely wiped memory, him learning all different sorts of subjects is him trying to figure out what he enjoys, and who he is as a person. “building himself up from ground zero”. and mias glad to help ): <3)

stature: What's your OC's body type? How tall are they? Do they wear clothing to accentuate their look or do they try to mask it?

Salem is 6'2" (188cm, I hope I converted that correctly, I'm a silly American), so he's a tall boy. He's broad shouldered and a bit on the stocky side. There's some natural thickness to him, especially around the arms, thigh and ass. He's thicc, juicy and bitable in all the right places. At his healthiest, he looks strong and in pretty good shape. He's the only OC of mine who's body type drastically changes throughout his story. In his very early 20s, he was a bit on the softer side. Not much muscle definition. During his bad years, when his mental health and drug addiction were at their worst, he was much more underweight. He looked a bit gaunt, and it obvious he was skipping meals or just not eating enough/properly for someone his size. Post rehab and during his recovery (at the start of 2077 and forward), he starts gaining his weight back after he begins to eat regularly again. He also begins to work out a bit more, so his muscles started developing some definition and he starts to tone up. He's not super defined and cut, and he likely won't ever be. But he is healthy and his more active lifestyle starts to show. While he does wear clothes that often show off his body (form fitting jeans, tank tops, etc), he doesn't really do it with the intention of accentuating his physique. He never really cared much to hide his looks, even when he was at his unhealthiest.

change: Has your OC ever drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?

Most of Salem's drastic modifications started around his early 20s. Salem's is very into self-expression and thinks the way he looks is an expression of who he is and what he's about. Plus, I think Salem's always had a bit of a chip on his shoulder since his youth, he was always made to feel like he was strange and was a bit of a reject growing up. So he decided, 'If you think I'm weird now, just wait.' It started with little things here and there--the tattoos were the first time come. Then the scarification (for no other reason than he thought they looked cool), then the eyes. The facial cyberware and cyberarm were probably results of injuries from 'accidents' he's caused during his bad years. His wardrobe has more or less stayed the same. In his later years, he's more open to wearing some color: such as darker shades of reds/blues/greens. But for the most part, he's always going to be a dark palette kind of guy with his attires. Though he has been known to clean up very well when he wants to--especially when the situation calls for a more formal look. A huge contrast from the baby faced kid he was in those early years. But he's happy with how he looks. It feels like him, no one else looks like him. And people can either love it or leave it--because he's not one to change for anyone.

roots: Is your OC's look inspired by any specific style of clothing or fashion trend? What are the roots and/or inspiration for their look?

Salem has a very specific style that I can't really recreate in game, sadly. 😭So I depend a lot on inspo pics, since I'm also not good at describing fashion. 😅 His main source of inspiration is rapper Ghostemane. He's the reason Salem exists, so I wanted to borrow from his aesthetics.

Just grungy and distressed. Oversized tanks, covered in tattoos, all that good stuff. Then he started taking on some of $uicideboy$ aesthetics too. Just gives me Salem vibes, with the face tattoos and just the whole look.

The rest is just a mishmash of grungy and urban style. So it's basically a giant mixing pot of these specific styles/looks dkjfghlsjddfg

OMG YES i literally forgot to talk about it but i saw barbie and oppenheimer back to back HAHAH! I also had my first ever imax experience with oppenheimer, living in london now in a place that imax exists! (my aussie hometown didn’t have any imax cinemas, so still haven’t seen dunkirk in all it’s glory, but I digress).

so i actually didn’t really know about the actual history of oppenheimer, and my partner encouraged me not to research it until after i saw the film so i could go in like those in history did, without knowing the end result (obvs i knew the end result but you know what i mean). if you ever get the chance to watch a historical you don’t know much about, i recommend doing what i did- it made things more surprising and suspenseful not to know the details that history would have taught me!

thoughts on oppenheimer under the cut:

masterpiece. nolan delivered again, obviously.

the opening scene with the quote and the explosion behind it gave me the most goosebumps/chills I have EVER experienced consuming media.

I loved the suspense that built up over time, I loved that it ebbed and flowed, unlike Dunkirk which only built. Uncharacteristically of me, I didn’t even really research the cast, so when it literally had half of hollywood in it, I kept thinking ‘oh there’s them!’ which made me happy lol.

Also my faceclaim for Peter’s brother played Heisenberg, which I didn’t know would happen, so that was a really nice surprise. (younger pics of him are the inspo I use for faceclaims of the older Dawson brother if you ever want to google Matthias!)

I thought the way they built the group of people around Oppenheimer was brilliant and that the film took the time to make us understand them all as their own people with their own lives was good, especially those who disagreed with Oppenheimer made it interesting.

When they detonated the test it was such a tense moment, and I was so glad to have a good cinema audience that was silent. I kinda forgot that they wouldn’t hear the blast immediately so when there was the audio delay I got chills. I loved that they waited almost enough time to make you think that maybe they just won’t include the audio at all, but then it hits you. hard.

The drawn out ‘not a court’ that Oppenheimer was put through I think really was a testament to all the actors’ skills, and did history justice in showing us a glimpse into how unfairly he was treated by the system.

I especially liked the little details in scenes at the start, like when Oppenheimer watched the raindrops and was thinking of atoms, and those litte details of his visions of science. Found those fascinating and actually really related to how he saw and processed things that way.

I also found the way they found out they had been dropped on japan to be shown very well. i didn’t know how they found out, as i said i went in pretty blind, so it was quite jarring to see that they found out the bombs were dropped from the news.

I feel like all my film reviews are sprawling and have no real structure, but those are the main points that come to my mind about just a few reasons I loved the film!! I think the mark of a good film is that if it’s a 3 hour one, it doesn’t feel that long- and Oppenheimer was just like that. It was gripping until the end and there was so much of its rich plot that it was not dull at all.

so yeah, did see oppenheimer, loved it, i give it 8.5/10 (dunkirk is a 9.5 in my books ((because i wish it was a bit longer)) i found oppenheimer maybe a teeeeny bit slow/laborious in some scenes).

okay i said i'd do this at the end of the season and here we are, at the end of the season, and i haven't yet written this out yet

but i must say, i think it was after brazil when i was like, omgggg can't wait for the season to be over (in hindsight i think it was because the entire brazil weekend was exhausting; first we had the sprint stuff iirc, then quali was delayed delayed delayed, then moved to sunday, so sunday was already packed, and then the race was EVENTFUL, so afterwards i was just ughhhh too much). but now i'm like, DAMMIT the season is over

okay so this is just where i go through every driver and give my very biased subjective unimportant opinion on them. it might include what i think of their driving. tl;dr i don't really like anyone on the grid atm, it's more like ~who do i hate the least, lol

verstappen: hmmmnnn. i mean, he's good, but i don't admire his dirty racing. if i had been still properly watching when he first showed up, i would've hated him. now i'm kinda neutral towards him. i was rooting against him when lando was kinda (never lol) in the WDC hunt, mainly because i didn't want him to win another championship, but as it turns out, lando wasn't good enough, which leads me to.......

lando: lmao i wasn't impressed with him after the 'name all the past WDCs in reverse order' video, but after watching about half of the races this year, he's the one i'm closest to liking >.> halp. he does seem to lack the cutthroat-ness that's common in world champions, but does he really need it to win one. anyway the first race i watched this year (apart from fucking monaco for some reason) was hungary, and i was soooo disappointed when he obeyed team orders halp skfjgkfjng. but yeah i do like that he's fast, he seems to be learning, it kiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda reminds me of 2009!seb. and i have noticed that he is also widely hated (on reddit esp), like rbr!seb was. do i have a type lmao

leclerc: i will never like him. he's a good driver though. and that stuff with his bro in abu dhabi was very sweet. kinda was inspo for a&b haha

carlos: is there for carlandoooooooooooooo. i notice that tumblr hates him more than reddit... because he won't follow team orders? i mean, i didn't like his whining to keep leclerc behind him (like, instant whining... okay maybe not whining but geez he was fast on the radio to say he wanted him to hold position). i just like teammates to be free to race fairly. this whole ~super helping each other~ thing is... not new anymore (i noticed it already in... hungary 2017 iirc), but as i barely followed f1 from 2015-2016ish, not at all from 2017ish-2020 and then somewhat sporadically from 2021-2022, not at all in 2023, and half of 2024, it feels 'new' to me. anyway, shame that he's getting kicked out of ferrari. (i enjoyed the mclaren vids of him and lando where they made pterodactyl noises at each other)

Huh… Depends on what it is I guess?? I would say pretty far, considering his questionable sense of morals and selfish attitude, but he also kind of fucking sucks at getting what he wants so I feel like he’s sorta used to disappointment at this point HSGSHHS

10. What’s an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?:

OOOOH okay this is a very fun thing to consider, I haven’t really put any thought into putting Dimitri into any AU’s yet! I mean, my first thought is just “any of them” bc anything with Dimitri is infinitely fun for me,, hmmm….. OOOH oh oh! You know what would be really fun would be like a sci-fi AU of some kind! Like space smuggler/pirate vibes almost… he would be the sneaky dude who hacks into security systems and rides around in some sleek stolen ship. And then our whole party can be ragtag space crew members :D Ayesha could be the grizzled mechanic maybe, Lark is the pilot…..

Hmm… nope, not really! I don’t really tend to do faceclaims for my OCs. I mean, he is definitely based off of MCU Loki a weeeee bit (lie), but I am trying to find ways to differentiate him from that :))

Ooo… I would say yes, for sure, as much as he would rather die than show it. Specifically, I feel like he gets jealous of the nice things that other people have, and the nice lives they get to live. He was never really given anything nice, and he had a rough fucking upbringing, so I think sometimes he sees other people wearing their soft fancy clothes with their rich opulent food and their loving families, and he just wishes he could fucking have that so bad. But he doesn’t even want to admit to himself that he feels that way, never mind admitting it to other people, so he’s learned to just turn all that jealousy into anger instead and sort of turn his chin up at soft fancy comforts (soooo izzycore of him honestly) when in reality I think he wants all of those things <33

25. What is your favorite thing about your OC?:

Ohhh, that’s such a hard one! Especially because like, Dimitri was specifically designed to be very self indulgent. I basically told myself when I started, “okay, you can worry as much as you want about being all unique and original with your DnD character in your second campaign. for now though, it’s your first fucking campaign, we are going to go as self indulgent as physically possible and who gives a shit if he’s just like everyone else’s character!!” So yknow, for me that meant making the roguish sexy tiefling I had always dreamed of playing, and leaning as hard into the Loki inspo as I wanted to lmao. Point being, with that in mind I kind of love all of him - the design, the vibes, the Gender™️ and all that - but really thinking about it, I think my favorite thing about him is just like,,, how actually developed he is? Like, I’ve been making OCs for years and years, but for some reason I can just never fucking manage to develop an OC beyond the most bare minimum of basic concepts before I get bored of them, and it drives me so insane. It has really felt like I would never have an OC that was anywhere near fleshed-out. But then I started playing this campaign, and I made a really self indulgent character, and I actually had this other person in the form of my DM pushing me to think about him more and give him a story, and the sessions keep renewing my interest in him every week, so it’s like?? Actually the perfect fucking cocktail of motivations to finally make my stupid adhd brain function enough to maintain interest in an OC? And I’m so fucking happy about it??? Like he actually has fucking depth now and themes and motivations and symbolism?????? And I love it so much??? And I mean sure, he’s absolutely nowhere near as developed as some other people’s OCs, there’s still a lot of shit I have to figure out…. but still, he’s easily far beyond anything I’ve ever reached before with my OC’s, and I am utterly fucking ecstatic about it.

⤿ Sukuna refuses to go anywhere without you. You're his dime piece, it'd be silly to not have you on his arm wherever he goes. Every single party he's invited to, he brings you along. The main reason being, he enjoys your company. The following being, the photo ops. When the two of you step into the room, all eyes are on you. The pictures are good for publicity, and he's proud to show you off. Even if these events are some you don't want to attend, he always remembers to make it up to at some point in the evening.

⤿ You wanna know how he makes up for dragging you along to his events? Sex. Every time. But he doesn't wait for the two of you to arrive home. He gives it to you wherever you happen to be. The backseat of the car on the ride there. The bathroom of the venue you're at. The hotel you're staying in right before you leave, causing you to arrive late. His status and money could never compare to the way you make him feel, though he does use said money to show you how much you mean to him.
