idk if people on tumblr know about this but a cybersecurity software called crowdstrike just did what is probably the single biggest fuck up in any sector in the past 10 years. it's monumentally bad. literally the most horror-inducing nightmare scenario for a tech company.
some info, crowdstrike is essentially an antivirus software for enterprises. which means normal laypeople cant really get it, they're for businesses and organisations and important stuff.
so, on a friday evening (it of course wasnt friday everywhere but it was friday evening in oceania which is where it first started causing damage due to europe and na being asleep), crowdstrike pushed out an update to their windows users that caused a bug.
before i get into what the bug is, know that friday evening is the worst possible time to do this because people are going home. the weekend is starting. offices dont have people in them. this is just one of many perfectly placed failures in the rube goldburg machine of crowdstrike. there's a reason friday is called 'dont push to live friday' or more to the point 'dont fuck it up friday'
so, at 3pm at friday, an update comes rolling into crowdstrike users which is automatically implemented. this update immediately causes the computer to blue screen of death. very very bad. but it's not simply a 'you need to restart' crash, because the computer then gets stuck into a boot loop.
this is the worst possible thing because, in a boot loop state, a computer is never really able to get to a point where it can do anything. like download a fix. so there is nothing crowdstrike can do to remedy this death update anymore. it is now left to the end users.
it was pretty quickly identified what the problem was. you had to boot it in safe mode, and a very small file needed to be deleted. or you could just rename crowdstrike to something else so windows never attempts to use it.
it's a fairly easy fix in the grand scheme of things, but the issue is that it is effecting enterprises. which can have a looooot of computers. in many different locations. so an IT person would need to manually fix hundreds of computers, sometimes in whole other cities and perhaps even other countries if theyre big enough.
another fuck up crowdstrike did was they did not stagger the update, so they could catch any mistakes before they wrecked havoc. (and also how how HOW do you not catch this before deploying it. this isn't a code oopsie this is a complete failure of quality ensurance that probably permeates the whole company to not realise their update was an instant kill). they rolled it out to everyone of their clients in the world at the same time.
and this seems pretty hilarious on the surface. i was havin a good chuckle as eftpos went down in the store i was working at, chaos was definitely ensuring lmao. im in aus, and banking was literally down nationwide.
but then you start hearing about the entire country's planes being grounded because the airport's computers are bricked. and hospitals having no computers anymore. emergency call centres crashing. and you realised that, wow. crowdstrike just killed people probably. this is literally the worst thing possible for a company like this to do.
crowdstrike was kinda on the come up too, they were starting to become a big name in the tech world as a new face. but that has definitely vanished now. to fuck up at this many places, is almost extremely impressive. its hard to even think of a comparable fuckup.
a friday evening simultaneous rollout boot loop is a phrase that haunts IT people in their darkest hours. it's the monster that drags people down into the swamp. it's the big bag in the horror movie. it's the end of the road. and for crowdstrike, that reaper of souls just knocked on their doorstep.

He was the storm that was feared by everyone, and she was the thunderclap that followed him with a morbid curiosity for chaos
The new King has a new Queen Consort. The royal couple—the newest envy of every man and woman. But little do they know of the chaos that follows them out of the Small Council chambers to their rooms—and sometimes even in the Small Council chambers.

Aemond was only a single second’s patience away from slamming someone’s head into the table that acted as the centre piece of the Small Council’s chamber—much in the manner that Criston Cole had done during the meeting immediately after his father’s death. The table was the sole place where the realm’s most crucial and powerful decisions were made, the future of the realm was fabricated carefully by the most cunning of minds.
The debate had been going on for far too long—far too lacklustre to keep the King was yawning almost unnoticeable into his fist while his gaze swept over every lord that now sat his table—all loyal to him, either by oath or by fear. He didn’t mind either, though oath could be broken. Fear? Now, that was forever embedded in someone’s mind.
House Frey was proving to be hard to bend the knee. Their demands stood high, and for a moment, the One-Eyed King thought of burning the whole house down and be done with the matter for all. But then, his sister’s cunning yet soft voice whispered in the ears of his mind, telling him to keep his calm and to treat the fragile political bonds of the realm with care—especially, now when everything can fall apart by only a little mistake.
The realm is moistened mud, she had said the other day, explaining carefully to him the reason to not deal with anything too harshly. Because treating wet mud with force leads not to formation of anything but disruption—and the House of the Dragon, or what was left of it, could not afford any new rebellions or civil wars anymore.
“We shall discuss these matters tomorrow now, my lords.” Aemond blinked at the firm command by his sister-wife, biting back a half smirk as the lords of the Great Houses looked at her startled, clearly taken aback at being dismissed by a Queen Consort.
Never before had a Queen sat in the Council meetings were it not for ill health of the King, not at least after the era of the Conqueror. But that had changed now, because the One-Eyed King would not reduce his fiery wife to a mere showpiece for the court. Instead, he was supplying air to that fire, letting it grow and dance in the rhythms of a music only she could hear. All while he watched with pride, and a glass of wine.
The lords of the Small Council had turned to him, expecting a word of protest but all they received was a dismissive nod. He didn’t acknowledge him apart from that, his gaze focused on the way his sweet sister reclined in the chair on his right. Her silver hair, braided and adorned by small silver dragons, glistened under the candlelight that flickered around the room. Her eyes—so identical to his—watched him back with a sly smile and a crooning voice.
“See something that intrigue you, your grace?”
His gaze traveled down from the sly smile on her plump lips to the slope of her neck, bared by the low cut of her dress’s neckline that dipped just enough to provide him with a peak of what laid beneath the velvet fabric that wrapped her perfectly—hiding the picturesque view of her bare skin that he had indulged in since that evening in his study.
Their mother would frown up the thought if she ever found out. But how could he resist her when she looked as she did that night and then every night that he could count. Long hair, so identical to his but only more curled, left loose and out of their intricate designs. Muscles relaxed and breaths deep, accentuating the curve of her bosom hidden from his eye under the fabrics of green. Lips curled in a perfect smirk that sent blood right down his trousers.
She was perfect in a manner that was hard to explain to anyone—to put her beauty into words was to limit her beauty to there.
To the realm, she was the Queen Consort whose prophecy had shaken the roots of the royal family. But to him, she was his sweet girl—the very same that begged to be fucked prettily almost every night, who let him indulge in whatever dark fantasies his mind could conjure, who moaned loud enough to wake the entire Maegor’s Keep when he nestled deep into her folds, or the one who pleaded to him to breed her like a good wife she was.
Aemond felt his breeches tightening as his mind brought up the images of the last night and the night before it, and the one before it. The sweet tears of overwhelming pleasure that rolled down her cheeks. The broken moans and the hoarse voice from screaming his name with every orgasm that wrecked through her perfect body. The purple marks that he had gifted her, staking his claim over and over in form of his release inside her and the budding bruises that were carefully hid beneath her dress and jewellery.
“Come here, sweet girl,” he growled, his gaze darkening with uncontrollable desire.
The Queen Consort only raised an eyebrow, her gaze flitting over to the four King’s Guard that stood unflinching yet quiet nervously near the double doors. She had no problem in indulging her husband in herself, quite the opposite—but not with their guards trying to act like they weren’t seeing anything.
Aemond only smirked, waving his hand to dismiss the four guards who quickly turned on their feet, opening the door and marching out before closing it behind them. The silence that followed was thick enough to be cut by the Valyrian steel that laid on the table with a quiet reverence. The blade that once belonged to Aegon the Conqueror—now had a new owner in the One-Eyed King.
His wife watched him quietly, sitting up a bit straighter before she finally followed his old order. Her dress fluttered around her feet as she stood up, cautiously approaching him with her hands intertwined in front of herself.
“Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes, wife?” It was a rhetorical question, one delivered with an all-knowing smirk and casual arrogance of a man self-assured. His fingers drummed against the wood, eye watching her with an intensity that had her shying away despite that not being in her nature at all. His other hand—the one closer to her—snaked around her waist once she was close enough, pulling her closer until his breath fanned over the exposed skin right above the curve of her tits.
She gasped his name, her hands flying to hold her balance, fingers dipping into his broad shoulders. His fingers dung into the fabric clinging to her waist, tasting the feel of it beneath his fingertips—savouring it.
“Someone might interrupt,” she whispered, breathlessly. Her own light eyes had darkened but she was practising more restrain than her husband—only she didn’t know that he was far too gone and won’t listen to any reason she might have.
“Then let them.” The growl followed by him standing up to his full height had her breath hitching, bodies pressed against each other, restrained by the suffocating clothes that felt too warm against their heated skin. His head tilted down, lips trailing the delicate curve of her ear before his teeth sank into it, drawing out a surprised whimper that echoed in the silent room.
He walked her backwards until the back of her thighs brushed against the edge of the Small Council table. His hands had ventured on their own task, exploring the curves he had memorised all too well in the past few weeks, tugging at the dress that covered the most delicious of her parts.
Slowly, one of his hand pushed up the hem of her dress, pushing her to lean more on the table while his feet hooked on the insides of her legs, pulling them apart to give him easier access to her most intimate part—the one that belonged to him and him alone.
His hand slipped in, gathering the wetness that had gathered in between her thighs, a slow smug smirk tugging on his lips while he trailed down kisses over the expanse of her neck, whispering huskily, “so perfect for me, little sister. All made for me.” She only moaned in response, buckling against his hand while her knees weakened.
“Ae-Aemond, please…” she begged, but for what she didn’t know. Maybe for him to stop teasing, or for him to continue to torture her, to slowly bring her closer and closer to release before deprive her of the peak that shatters her completely.
He bit down on her neck, right above the place where her pulse thrummed in anticipation of what was to come for sure. She clung to him—desperate and wanting the climax only he could bring her to—begging with her wide eyes.
Gone was the Realm’s Oleander and in her place was Aemond’s sweet girl. The one who listened to every little noise he made and was made to please him.
“Turn around, wife.”
She gulped, body weak from his ministrations but thrumming with excitement as she did what he demanded on shaking legs. He towered over her from behind, his hand gently pushing her forward, bending her over the table where the realm’s future was dangled on thread on daily basis. The thrill of it sent a shiver down her spine, straight to her glistening core while her chest heaved against the tight confines of her dress.
Aemond reached down, fingers curling into the deep green of her dress and pushing it up to her hips, baring her damp folds to the cool air of the Small Council’s chamber. The little whine that echoed in the room fell on deaf ears while his one hand moved to rub circles on her clit while the other loosened the laces of his breeches, pushing them down enough to pull out his hand and angry length.
Two of his long fingers entered her slowly, a groan leaving his lips as her walls welcomed the digits home, sucking them in like they belonged there—which they did. He started to thrust them in and out, drawing heavy pants and little moans while she begged for more greedily. But the One-Eyed King was in a generous mood and decided not to prolong her torture.
Removing his fingers from her warmth, his wrapped them around his cock, coating them with her own wetness before he moved closer to her. The mushroom head of his length pushed past the plush and wet folds, straight into the embrace of her warm walls that hugged his length desperately. His hands found her hips, pushing back the hem of her dress to watch the bare flesh of her ass against his pelvis.
A groan echoed through the room, obscene noises following as he started to move inside her. Her fingers clung to the table in order to find some purchase while the intensity of his thrusts rocked it altogether.
“So tight, so wet…all for me, sweet girl?” One of his hand moved from her bare hips, travelling up to find her hair and fist them before tugging up at them. His other hand loosened the laces holding her dress together, baring a sliver of skin of her back.
She nodded, unable to form words or coherent thoughts in her mind, but a harsh tug of her hair had her whimpering out the answer. “Yes…yes, all for you.”
The smug grin on his face was hard to wipe out as he hastily pulled down her dress from the top, baring her full tits that brushed against the table with every thrust, nipples pebbled by the stimulation.
“Ae-Aemond,” she squeaked as he pounded hard into her, wet noises filling the air between growled out words and moaned pleas.
“I will breed you so well, little sister.” He punctuated with a rough thrust that had her gasping for breath, one of her hand moving down to cup his. Her walls clenched at his words, making him chuckle breathlessly as he leaned over her—his clothed chest brushing against her scarcely bare back.
His hot breath fanned the side of her face, growling filthy words into her ear.
“You will look so good, all round and full with my child in you. Your pretty tits overflowing with milk for our son. Your puffy cunt welcoming for me and him.”
Her lips parted in silent scream, the knot in her lower stomach close to snapping. She begged him to go faster, to breed her like she was supposed to be, and he complied without any hesitation.
A loud moan filled the room as she came, but Aemond didn’t stop. Instead, he was chasing his own high, while his mind conjured up images of her, round and desperate for him while carrying his heir in her stomach. That image alone, mixed with her loud noises were enough for him to come inside her, filling her fertile womb with his potent release.
A part of him hoped that his seed takes place, but another one, a selfish, darker part of him hoped not. After all, that gave him just more opportunity to breed his sweet, little wife.

Tumblr media
— pairing; vil schoenheit x ramshackle! reader
— summary; in true ramshackle fashion, you confess to vil through a chaotic song, and it doesn't have the intended effect.
— notes; this was fun to write hehe. please donate to my kofi or consider commissioning me if you like my work bc im broke and need cash. and know that i am mentally smooching everyone who reblogs my stuff.
Tumblr media
❋ After weeks of pining, you finally decide to pluck up your courage and confess to Vil in a way that feels grand and romantic — because, of course, Vil deserves nothing less.
❋ You consult with your friends before finally deciding on a grand romantic gesture: a heartfelt serenade under the stars.
❋ Grim, Ace, and Deuce eagerly volunteer to help, sensing both chaos and entertainment in your (poorly thought-out) plan. And you manage to rope in Epel, of all people, to help you compose a song.
❋ You would have been better off enlisting Rook’s help.
❋ Epel takes his role of the group’s lyricist very seriously. Unfortunately, most of the song consists of poetic potato metaphors, given Vil’s penchant of calling everyone by that nickname.
“Your hair is as golden as a potato, it surrounds your face like a beautiful halo.” “You’re the flawless gem in my potato patch; my heart turns to mash around you.”
❋ You think it’s an absolute masterpiece, and none of your friends have the heart to tell you otherwise.
❋ The four of you sneak over to Pomefiore in the dead of night, armed with precisely two things: nerves of steel, and some old instruments you’ve found up in the dorm’s dusty attic.
❋ Grim provides lighting and ambience with his flames, Ace makes a valiant effort to pluck at the strings of his borrowed guitar, and Deuce shakes his tambourine with far too much enthusiasm, it’s almost enough to drown out your painfully off-key singing.
❋ And there you stand in the centre of it all, holding a bouquet of wildflowers (still with the muddy roots attached) and warbling singing your heart out, your voice cracking from nerves and the lack of practice.
❋ Instead of romantic ambiance, it’s pure chaos. Birds startle out of the trees. Lights flicker on in nearby dorm rooms. The nearby students think a murder has just taken place on the grounds.
❋ All the noise music has the intended effect of summoning the object of your affections.
❋ Draped in a pink satin robe, Vil appears at the window, his hair in a perfect loose braid, and a silk sleep mask pushed up to his forehead. Really, it’s unfair how effortlessly flawless he looks even in the dead of night. He doesn’t interrupt your performance but instead folds his arms and watches, his expression caught between bewilderment and judgment.
“You’re the apple of my eye, my sweet potato prince, please go out with me, don’t make me cry!”
❋ You finish the song with a dramatic flourish, slightly out of breath. You’re still holding onto that bouquet, staring up at Vil with wide, hopeful eyes.
❋ There’s a pause before Vil pinches the bridge of his nose with a deep exhale. In a flutter of pink, he descends the stairs to meet you, looking like a queen poised to address her court.
❋ Instead of swooning into your arms, Vil stands before you, his eyes narrowed and his voice a mask of carefully controlled calm. “Prefect,” he begins. “Do you honestly expect me to be wooed by that . . . Performance?”
❋ And you’ve opened up the floodgates; Vil’s perfectionist tendencies take over and he spends the next ten minutes giving a detailed breakdown of how the performance could be improved.
“Prefect, your pitch is horrendous, and you’re completely off-tempo.” “Ace, never pick up a guitar again. Your rhythm was an assault on my ear drums.” “Deuce, why are you even here? Your tambourine skills are atrocious." “And you — Grim! What were you thinking, using fire in such a haphazard manner? Do you want to set Pomefiore ablaze?” “The lyrics are positively horrendous. Who even writes about potatoes in a confession?”
❋ Vil’s lecture lasts for all of ten minutes (Ace kept count).
❋ You remain silent through it all, but you’re just about ready to combust from embarrassment as Vil continues his critique.
❋ Finally, he falls silent with a final, dramatic sigh. "If you wanted my attention, you didn’t need to orchestrate such a . . . Spectacle. Though I will admit, the effort is . . . Endearing. Misguided, but endearing.” He softens just slightly, a faint smile tugging at his lips as he reaches for the bouquet of flowers, careful to avoid the muddy roots.
❋ He turns on his heel to leave, but pauses on the doorstep, his back to you. “By the way . . . I would prefer some red roses the next time you come for a visit.” He disappears back into Pomefiore, leaving the group in a stunned silence.
❋ Wait.
❋ Next time?
❋ Was that . . . An invitation for a second chance? Ace immediately confirms this with a triumphant yell, and you can’t help but grin, feeling like a love-sick fool despite your bruised ego and the lingering humiliation.

Evan Buckley Masterlist
Summary: While Evan is on a long weekend at work, (Y/n) takes their girls out with their family. Things don't go to plan when something happens to one of their daughters.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
"Buck!" He shrugged off Eddie's touch and bolted from the table, checking his pockets for his phone and his wallet. He needed to find his keys from his locker and leave. He had to get down there and get in that shopping centre. Evan needed to scout round every inch of that building. Every corner, every crevace, every hidden crook and cranny, he needed to look round them all. He needed to watch and search every person who tried to leave and every car needed to be stopped and checked. "Buck what's going on?" "One of my daughters is missing."
"Where's my daughter?" Anger, agony and pure, unrivalled chaos burst to life in Evan's voice.
His hands clenched into fists at his sides, his shoulders hunched up near his neck and his chest puffed out with a deep breath that made him feel like he was about to combust.
He could feel his phone burning a hole in his back pocket. He had been spammed with messages from Bobby, Maddie, both his parents but nothing from (Y/n). All he wanted was for her to tell him that they found Minnie, hidden away in some corner or wandering off with someone from another station in a similar uniform to his.
Evan would settle for being told Minnie had been taken by a stranger but someone had found her and brought her back to safety.
His phone was locked but there was the most recent picture of Minnie that he had, waiting to be shown to any security guard or police officer who needed it. He was ready to show his picture to everyone he passed and demand they find his little girl.
He could see the officer's eyes raking him up and down, assessing whether or not Evan was actually the dad of the missing girl. But the fury in his eyes gave it away and told him if he refused to let Evan inside that shopping centre, they would have a bigger situation out here.
"Name?" His voice held a small waver as he looked up at Evan who was a good few metres taller than him. They had to be certain.
"Evan Buckley. Where's my daughter, have you found her yet?"
"We haven't located her yet… Seargent, I have Mr Buckley on his way in." He waved for Evan to follow him and headed inside the shopping centre entrance.
Evan followed closely behind, his irritation growing with each passing second. How long had his daughter been missing? Was she alright? Was someone with her? Was Minnie wandering this place- or God forbid, the streets, all alone? No. Someone would have seen her wandering alone, they would have stopped her, questioned her, tried to help her or look after her. No one would let her get far on her own.
Someone had to be with her, whether they were a friend or an enemy. Evan didn't like either option.
"Then where's my wife?"
"Right this way."
As they walked down the wide hall, Evan let his eyes dart around him. Shops were still open. People were still fluttering in and out. But out of the shops, in the middle of the centre, people were confined to the sides. They were told to walk in single file and stay close close to the wall. No one could wander or flutter about the middle of the floor. They needed clear views of every angle to find Minnie.
Security were posted near every shop, not letting people in or out if they had a child.
Evan shuddered when he heard an announcement rattle through the speakers that almost deafened him.
"If anyone sees a little girl, Minnie Buckley, three years old. Wearing a purple flower dress, white tights and red shoes with a Disney headband on, they should stop her and alert security immediately."
That gave Evan some sort of hint, at least now he knew what she was wearing. The last time he saw any of his girls had been Friday morning when he kissed Minnie and Evie goodbye and dropped Lois and Ellie at school. He had spoken to them last night to say goodnight when they went to bed, but he hadn't seen them. He didn't know what they were wearing, what hairstyles they had today or what their plans had been for today.
Evan saw his family before the officer got close to them.
He bypassed the shorter man and started into a run, pelting down the hall until every set of eyes were on him and people started to panic that he was the culpret with Minnie.
There they were. His mother, sat with an arm around Maddie, both of them red-eyed and looking down at the table as if it would somehow give them the answers they wanted. The blushing pink pram he recognised was next to his mother and he figured his youngest girl was swaddled away in there. He prayed she was.
When his eyes set on (Y/n), he could feel his heart breaking all over again. He felt his heart impale itself on his ribs, wanting to bleed out and commit his body to the ground then and there.
She was sat with her forehead propped up on her hand, her arm trembling, her upper body hunched over the table. Tears streaked down her face, trembles set in all across her body sending her shoulders rocking back and forth.
"Daddy!" Ellie, who had been sat with her chair pulled as close to (Y/n)'s as she could, ripped out of her mother's arms and bolted from the table. Even as she heard her mum cry out and hear her aunt gasp in panic, she bolted across the polished floor.
As soon as she bolted, Lois looked up, located Evan and subsequently set off into a run for him too.
Evan crouched down and held his arms out, scooping the pair of them up, one in each arm until they were cocooned into his chest. He smothered his lips against Ellie's temple, then kissed Lois's cheek as he stood up to his full height and lifted the girls up. Their arms circled around his neck and held him so tightly he couldn't breathe, but he didn't want to.
Evan didn't want to blink, breathe, move or eat or scream until Minnie was back. He didn't want to carry on dwindling through the minutes, the hours, the days. He wanted everything to stop until his third daughter was here and safe in his arms.
"I'm here. It's okay, it's okay girls, I'm here." He nuzzled his face into Lois's hair and took a second to breathe deeply and hold them as close as he could. He wanted them encased into his chest, hidden behind his ribs with his heart so he could keep them safe.
He started walking forwards, the girls in his arms, until he reached the table they were all sat at.
Security were posted around them, police officers were filtering in and out of the food court and milling about the place, trying to set up a plan to search and locate Minnie. If she was even still in the centre at all. But at least the food court had been evacuated. Only their family was in here with the officers, somewhere they could sit and wait in agony but with some sense of privacy.
Evan carefully eased Lois down into a chair and set Ellie on her feet next to her and he took the time to kiss their foreheads again and whisper that it was okay. Because he would make sure of it. Evan would do anything within his power to make sure everything turned out okay.
Tears burned in the corners of his eyes and his heart started to falter and skip a few beats when he crouched down in front of (Y/n).
He nudged her knees to the side and crouched between her thighs that caged him in and grounded him to her. His hands feathered up and down her thighs until she looked at him.
A single tear jumped free from the end of her nose and Evan could see the tracks slithered down her face from how badly she had been crying.
Why did he go in this weekend?
When Maddie texted, why didn't he just talk to Bobby and try and get today off? Why didn't he try harder to get off work earlier today so he could be here with them? Minnie might not have wandered- or someone might not have taken her, if Evan had been with them.
"She's s-still not here." (Y/n) brushed her sleeve against her nose and beneath her eyes to try and stop her face from feeling so tight and taut.
But when she looked back down at Evan, she could feel another tidal wave washing over her. She reached her arms out and wrapped them around his neck and slid forward until she almost fell off her chair and onto his lap. She felt him push upwards so they were level and he let her head slump onto his shoulder.
His arm circled around her waist and pulled her tightly into his chest while his right hand moved to cup the back of her neck. He smothered his lips against her temple and brushed her hair back behind her ear.
"We're gonna find her, okay? We're gonna go find her and take all our girls home."
(Y/n) brushed her nose against Evan's neck and tried to take a deep breath, but all she could do was wheeze and croak small, shallow gulps of air. Having him here made a difference, though. She could feel her heartbeat thinning out, it wasn't throbbing in her temple or pulsing beneath her skin anymore. She could close her eyes for a few seconds now, instead of look around and try not to blink in case she missed a potential sight of her baby girl.
She could feel Evan's fingers gliding up and down her back and she stayed tucked up into his chest, pressing her face as close to his neck as she could until she could feel his thundering heartbeat.
He kissed the side of her head and spared a glance over at his mum and sister. This wasn't how he wanted to meet with their mum. He hadn't seen her in over six months. The last thing Evan wanted was to meet under horrific, uncertain circumstances like this. And he hated to see Maddie in such a state of distress.
She was usually the epitomy of calm and collected. She stayed calm all those years she was with Doug. She put on a brave face for Evan, trying not to let him see what was going on and how frightened or hurt or uncertain she felt. When Maddie was at work, she remained calm even when the 118 were involved in collisions or dangerous situations. She powered through and helped them.
Not today. Today, his sister was crying, rocking back and forth and about to have a panic attack because where was her niece? Where was that little toddler who brightened up a room and made everyone smile, no matter what mood they were in? How had someone managed to get away with her? How had she slipped away from them in less than three minutes without someone stopping her or seeing or noticing?
How did something like this happen?
"Buck. (Y/n)."
Evan lifted his head and he felt like a weight had been lifted from his chest when he looked across the food court and saw his mother in law. Athena. Just the person they needed in a crisis like this to help them through it and find their little girl.
"Here we go, baby. We'll find her now, hm?" Evan's hands moved to cup (Y/n)'s face and he gently lifted her head from his shoulder so he could look up at her. He leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips, tasting the saltwater tears tracing across his tongue.
His hands moved down to her waist and he helped her up and let her lean into him when he noticed her knees were close to giving way.
"It's nanny Nash." Ellie murmured quietly but when she tried to get up, Evan reached an arm out and gently nudged her to sit down on the same chair as Lois. He shook his head when she started to whine and his stern expression and broken eyes told her not to try and see Athena. Not yet.
"I want you both to stay here where I can see you. Do not move away from this table, at all. You understand?"
Both girls meekly nodded and stayed cuddled together, squished on the green plastic chair opposite their nan and aunt. And Lois turned to her left and leaned to look in the pram, checking her youngest sister was still asleep and okay.
Evan couldn't have either of the girls coming over and talking to Athena, not when she was here on business to find Minnie. And he didn't want them leaving this table. He knew security was gathered around and every exit was watched and under lockdown, but he didn't want them moving. He needed all his girls where he could see them so he didn't have to panic about losing another girl.
His arms curled around (Y/n)'s waist and he pulled her back up against his chest with his lips against the back of her head. They headed over towards Athena and as soon as they were within reach, Athena reached out and gripped (Y/n)'s hand.
She could see the panic and the fear swirling within her step-daughter's eyes and her face was a bundle of emtions too vast and too many to reason with.
"Okay honey, I've been on the phone to your dad, he's on his way down here now. And he's going to do a quick canvas of the streets, just as a precaution. The officers have run me through the timeline and what's happened."
She gave (Y/n)'s hand a tight squeeze and ran her other hand up and down her arm. Athena had been in this situation hundreds of times, consoling parents, calming them down. Telling them everything was going to be okay. She had seen parents reuinited with their children and watched others fall apart when their children were never found or the worst outcome happened.
But a case like this had never been personal. She had never had a missing child be someone in her own family; one of her granddaughters, no less.
"What do we do now? No one's found her and this place is on lockdown, I'll go roam the streets if I need to, what's the plan?" Evan knew his mother in law would have a plan.
She was experienced in these situations and she knew the best course of action, but Evan wasn't a fan of waiting around. And they all knew if Athena tried to tell him not to help or get involved, he would go against her wishes anyway.
He would drive round the streets and look for her, he would scour the whole city if he had to. Someone just needed to point him in the right direction and off he would go, looking for his baby girl.
He needed her back.
"Just, try and stay calm Buck, please. I want you both to come with me to the security office so we can find her on the cameras and track her movements. That will tell us whether she is still in the centre, and if she is with someone. I can't imagine she'd be on her own, not willingly and not after this place has been swarming with security."
Athena wouldn't believe Minnie would willingly wander off alone, she was too young and nervous for that. And after all the announcements, the security rattling round and now the police, if Minnie was on her own they would have found her. She had to be with someone.
Evan nodded and gave (Y/n)'s hips a squeeze. This was good. They could see who they should be looking for and where they needed to check for Minnie. It had been just less than an hour since she went missing, if they were quick they could go and get her. They hoped.
"Seargent Grant?"
Athena let go of (Y/n)'s hand and turned to the side, looking at a younger officer who was trying to wave her towards him.
But (Y/n) saw what he was holding.
She ripped out of Evan's arms, stumbled past Athena and snatched the item before he could hide it from her or try to give it to Athena in secret.
"Baby, baby what is it?"
Evan pushed forward and latched his hands onto (Y/n)'s hips again so he could look over her shoulder. His lungs quaked in his chest and he couldn't breathe. Suddenly stricken at a bundle of thoughts of what it could be. Was it part of Minnie's clothing? Was it her shoe? Was it a randsom note or a picture?
It was Minnie's headband. The one with the mouse ears stitched on and a bright red, glittering bow in the centre. The one Evan had bought for her and had last seen her wearing on Friday morning. This was their way of finding her.
They would of been able to spot her in a crowd wearing these. The security cameras would pinpoint the toddler since she wore these all day. She wore them almost every day. Since Evan put them on her head Friday morning, she only took them off to get a bath and go to sleep.
She would scream if someone tried to take them off her or knocked them off. Minnie wouldn't leave them behind or go anywhere without them.
"Evan, s-she wouldn't take them off… Oh God,"
She couldn't breathe. She couldn't move. Her eyes zoned in with tunnel vision until the glittering, blood red bow was all she could see, think and imagine.
Her baby was lost somewhere, without these. That made her so much harder to spot in a crowd. She would be crying that she had lost them. She would be crying for her parents, her sisters, her aunt, her family. Something bad had happened to her and they weren't any closer to finding her.
(Y/n) held the headband so tightly the plastic started to cut into the palm of her hand. She didn't realise her knees had caved in until Evan's arms bound tight around her middle and he wrenched her into his chest before she went down to the floor.
She deadlocked the headband to her chest, binding her arms around it until the band was almost imbedded into her skin. Her head flopped forward as she began to sob but she felt like her heart was being torn out when she felt Evan's lips against the side of her head and realised he was crying too.
"She… I…"
"Where did you find them?" Evan's eyes were full of malice when they darted over to the officer stood behind Athena.
He pulled (Y/n) closer and tried to stand up, holding her tighter when her legs continued to shake and wobble. He could feel her shoulders shaking, her wheezing, croaky breaths. And when she turned her head and pressed her face into his neck, he wanted to scream. His wife shouldn't be in this state of distress, his daughter shouldn't be missing, his other girls shouldn't be frightened and traumatised.
"Where the fuck did you get them? They belong to our daughter! Where were they?!" Evan's voice rose until he was almost shouting and he could feel his voice travelling around the walls and bouncing off the glass ceiling.
Suddenly it didn't matter if the girls heard him or if he panicked the rest of his family. All Evan cared about was finding Minnie. They had to know where her headband was found.
"On the search, just outside the East exit." He pointed to their right but he shrunk back when (Y/n) all but screamed and Athena pushed him away.
"She's gone- Evan…"
Evan turned (Y/n) around in his arms, keeping his right arm around her waist while his other hand cradled the back of her head. His fingers knotted in her hair and he smothered his wet lips against her burning temple. Tears burned his face like acid rain and he started to sway them from side to side, quietly humming and shushing her.
"No, no baby she's not gone. We're gonna find her…" His eyes lifted to lock with Athena. "Bobby's not here yet, tell him to circle around."
"I will, now we need to go and check those security cameras. She clearly isn't alone which is what we want if she's out in the streets. Let's find out which direction she's gone, when they left, and who we need to be looking for."
He curled his hand and wove his fingers into (Y/n)'s hair, gently tilting her head back from his neck so he could look down at her. He brushed his fingers delicately over the side of her face and swiped his thumb across her lower lip.
"I'm gonna get Maddie and mum to take the girls home, they're scared. That way we can stay here and find Minnie, okay?"
He didn't want the girls to have to hang around in this bad situation. They didn't need to see their parents getting distressed and panicked like this. And they didn't need to watch them flutter about this place along with the police and security, trying to find Minnie. It would be easier for them and safer if they went home and tried to calm down and get settled.
That way, (Y/n), Evan and Athena could all focus their attention on Minnie without having to worry about checking on Lois and Ellie or settling Evie for a nap or calming her down.
And a miniscule piece of Evan's heart knew he needed the girls to be away from here in case they got bad news. If they found Minnie and it wasn't good. If they watched someone snatch her on the security tapes. If they couldn't get her back.
The girls couldn't witness that.
Evan could see all the bad thoughts running round in (Y/n)'s mind through her frantic eyes that couldn't stay focused on anything. She clutched the headband like it was her lifeline. When she nodded, Evan unravelled his arms from her and left her leaning into Athena so he could go back to the table all the girls in his family were sat at.
His hands found Maddie's shoulders and he leaned over the back of her chair, hovering his lips over her ear so the girls wouldn't hear.
"They found her headband outside… someone's got her. Can you take the girls home for me, if we stay and check security tapes?"
The hairs on the back of Maddie's neck started to prickle and stand on end and a fresh wave of goosebumps rose over her skin. She could feel her blood turning cold and disappearing down to her toes that were tingling and going numb in her shoes. They found her headband. She had managed to get outside before every exit of the shopping centre had been closed. They tried to lock her in but she got out somehow. Someone took her away.
She couldn't find her voice, so she settled on nodding. Her lips pressed into a thin line to stop a frown and she swallowed down her tears, she didn't want to worry the girls anymore than this.
Evan kissed her temple and moved to crouch down beside the table, resting between the chair the girls were sat on and Maddie who was sat on his right. He leaned his right arm on the table and moved his left hand to hold Lois's trembling hand in his palm.
"I want you all to go home with aunt Maddie and gran, you don't need to be here. But me and mum need to stay and get Minnie, so you need to be good for me, okay?"
Evan rolled his lips into a thin line when Lois wrapped her arms around his neck and clung to his chest, crying out in agony. It was almost as if he'd told her he was leaving for weeks instead of hours. But then again, Evan didn't know when he or (Y/n) would be able to go back home. If they didn't find Minnie soon, would he really be okay going home without her?
He would end up roaming the streets with Bobby, sending (Y/n) home to wait with the girls. Evan couldn't go home if one of his babies was missing, he wouldn't rest or sit down without her.
"Are you sure?" Maddie rested her hand on her brother's shoulder and leaned over to kiss his temple. She knew it was the right thing to do, but her heart didn't want to leave him and (Y/n) here. She wanted to stay and help search, but she knew none of the girls would settle with Margaret or Phillip. They needed her.
"Daddy, we don't wanna go without you. Can't we stay-"
"No baby girl, you can't stay with me I'm sorry. You need to go home, Maddie's gonna look after you, you'll be safe I swear." He kissed the top of her head repeatedly and moved to do the same with Ellie. "If you need us or you just wanna talk, you just call me, okay? We'll see you soon."
It took all the strength Evan had within him to pull away from his girls and take a step back so they couldn't cling to him. Their eyes stared up at him, full of pain, fear and unshed tears that were now tracing down their cheeks.
"Call me when you get them home." He looked between his mum and sister until they both nodded. He had to know when they were home or else Evan's mind would be split between panicking about Minnie and the rest of his girls. He needed them to be safe so his focus could be on Minnie.
Moving round behind the seats, Evan leaned over the pram and kissed Evie's temple. She was taking another power nap and Evan was glad. The last thing they wanted was the toddler crying and panicking too, if she could remain calm and settled then that would be a blessing for everyone.
When he approached (Y/n), his hands found her shoulders and his lips found the back of her head. When he nodded, Athena took the lead and led them towards the lift.
They had security tapes to check.
(Y/n) couldn't keep her eyes in focus. It didn't matter how hard she tried or how she scolded herself.
Minnie needs you! Look at the screen! Find your daughter in that sea of people.
All her eyes wanted to do was go down to stare at the headband tightly crumpled up against her chest. She was holding it so tightly the plastic was starting to cut through her shirt and imbed into her sternum like she wanted to tuck it into her ribcage and keep it safe with her heart. Keep it safe for Minnie.
Her forehead pressed up against Evan's razor cut jaw and she could feel herself focusing on how his fingers were feathering up and down her hip, trying to calm her down. It was doing the trick, but it was also distracting her. She was supposed to be looking through the tapes to find Minnie, but she couldn't.
She didn't want to, in fear of what she was going to find. Who would be walking away with her daughter? Why would they be taking her away?
Had they just taken her hand and walked her out of here? Had they picked her up? Did they smother her cries or pretend she was a child having a tantrum? Did Minnie go willingly or did she put up a fight and cry out for her mum who was nowhere to be found?
All the questions sent (Y/n)'s body into spasms and trembles. And when Athena pointed out the tape that showed their group going into the clothing store, (Y/n) turned away.
She didn't want to see herself letting Minnie run off. She didn't want to see her family turn their backs for one second and have Minnie snatched away from them.
She could feel Evan leaning over her left shoulder to scrutinise the tape, watching all the girls of his family split apart and wander around in pairs.
"Slow down that tape, she went missing around that time upstairs." Athena pointed to a screen on the left. At least four other officers were crowded into the room. They were going to go through each security camera in the area, one by one, tracking Minnie's movements.
"Minnie."
Evan tilted his head to the right and kissed (Y/n)'s temple, unable to bring his eyes away from the screen Athena was looking at. There was their girl, just about to dart away from his mother when she had her back turned.
"Stop!"
Evan's eyes managed to tear from the screen and look down at (Y/n) when she jolted forward. She was looking at a different screen. One of the ones on the right in the bottom corner. Her hands lunged out and patted the screen, drawing a circle with the pad of her finger around Minnie.
The security officer sat just in front of Evan was quick to pause the tape, and all eyes went to that screen.
There she was. Hidden in plain sight. Her hair, thin as the first layer of snow and straight as a ruler until it crimped at the very ends that touched her shoulders. Her hand, gripped tightly by a young woman, not too much older than (Y/n) herself.
Minnie was leaning backwards like she was trying to pull away or wanted to turn around and run back to her family. Tears were streaked down her face and her lips were parted like she was in the middle or about to burst into a sob.
They were stood in front of an exit that led out onto the street. And right there, as the frame was paused in motion, Minnie's headband was halfway down the back of her head, about to drop onto the floor.
That exit led out onto the street. It didn't lead into the multistory carpark that belonged to the shopping centre. Maybe they were walking on foot. That would slow them down; she couldn't take Minnie far on foot. She couldn't have gotten far in the hour that Minnie had been missing, if they didn't get straight into a car, that meant there was a better chance of getting her back.
"Play it slowly, frame by frame."
She dragged her out. The woman dragged Minnie out the door like she was a child having a tantrum who she was taking back home.
No one stopped her.
How could they? If (Y/n) had been passing by, she wouldn't have the courage or the nerve to stop another woman and her child. It wasn't normal to stop women when their children were having a tantrum. Even if Minnie had been screaming that she wanted her mummy or her aunt or even her sister. People passing by would presume the woman was Minnie's guardian, her aunt or her babysitter or someone familiar rather than a stranger dragging her away.
"Where's the nearest camera after that one?"
The guard pointed at the same screen but switched the video feed to the camera posted outside the exit.
The woman swooped down, hoisted Minnie up onto her hip, and walked down the street as if nothing was wrong.
"I want all cameras down that street, any shops, any traffic cameras. Centred around half past two, find out where she went after that street. This is good, we have a suspect and a direction and they're on foot, that gives us an advantage." Athena gave (Y/n)'s hand a reassuring squeeze, but (Y/n) didn't feel so relieved.
It didn't matter that it was a woman who had taken Minnie. There were thousands of derranged, twisted women in the world. That woman could have taken Minnie because she wanted a child, it could be innocent. She could have lost a child and wanted a replacement, or thought she was looking after Minnie or saving her from something.
Or she could have chosen Minnie because she wanted to hurt her. She could be doing anything to her by now.
(Y/n) wanted her baby back this very second.
"Baby- baby wait!" A growl tore from the back of Evan's throat as he set of into a sprint when (Y/n) bolted.
She flung the door open and flew out the room with her bag bashing against her waist and Minnie's headband still clutched to her chest. She was getting her back. They were going to open the shopping centre again and let people leave now they knew for certain that Minnie wasn't in here. (Y/n) was going to leave the exact same way that woman had and try to find her. She didn't know how and she didn't care, she just wanted to find her.
Evan's hands curled into fists at his sides and he could feel Athena hot on his heels as they darted out of the room and down the corridor to the left.
His heart jumped into his throat when he watched (Y/n)'s foot slip on the top step and he cringed, biting down on his tongue at the thought of her falling down. But she regained her balance and stumbled down the stairs two at a time, flinging herself around the corner to propell down the second flight and get down to the ground floor.
All the air got caught at the back of (Y/n)'s throat when she stumbled onto the ground floor and felt a hand curl around her upper arm. She tripped, sliding back on her heel until her shoulders crashed into a tense, hard chest and a familiar set of strong arms bound around her waist.
"Baby," Evan rasped into her hair, his voice deep and guttural as he breathed harshly against the top of her head. "Take a breath. We don't know which way she went after that road, and that was nearly an hour ago."
When (Y/n) tried to break out of his arms, Evan tightened them around her and pulled her back. He moulded his chest over her back and leaned forward, smothering his face against her neck. But he lifted his eyes to look across when Athena stood in front of them.
"We have people checking cameras, honey. Let's wait and see what they find and where she went-"
"I can't- I can't wait here," (Y/n) tilted her head back onto Evan's shoulder and looked up at him with those big, pleading eyes that made his stomach flip and sent his heart reeling. He would do anything she asked when she looked at him like that and they both knew it. "Evan… we need to look for her, she was crying."
Biting down on his lower lip, Evan looked from his wife to his mother in law. "Could we do a drive round? If Minnie lost her headband, maybe, fuck… maybe she lost a shoe or something? We can at least look, can't we?"
It was possible.
Minnie wasn't old enough to know about leaving items behind like a trail of breadcrumbs for people to find her. But if she was struggling, what's to say that she didn't lose a shoe? Or they could still be wandering the streets, trying to get away from the police that would be scattered round looking for them.
A drive round couldn't hurt, it would keep them busy and out of trouble and occupy their minds. (Y/n) and Evan couldn't wait around here doing nothing and they couldn't sit at the police station either and wait for news. It would drive them both insane.
"Okay. But I'll drive you."
***
Leaning to the left, (Y/n) slumped her head on Evan's shoulder. She felt unbelievably tired. Her eyes were aching and yearning to get some rest, her stomach felt heavy and her heart had turned to a stone, thudding and bashing against her ribs until her chest was going to collapse.
But she couldn't close her eyes. What if she missed something? What if when she closed her eyes, they passed by Minnie or something that belonged to her, or a clue?
They had been driving for almost half an hour now, and (Y/n) was losing momentum and the will to be in the car. It wasn't as bad as waiting at the station, but being confined in here, not able to do anything to or for Minnie, was just as bad.
Every now and then, Athena was getting updates from the security cameras and from tips people were calling in to the station.
People had seen a woman carrying a crying toddler. Someone had said they saw a woman in a corner shop whose child was crying for their mummy and that only made (Y/n) breakdown all over again.
Athena had driven down the route they knew for certain the woman and Minnie had walked when they left the shopping centre. But now they were driving around slowly, cruising the streets for clues, to pass the time, to wait until someone called in with another sighting.
And Bobby was driving round too. He had been driving for over an hour, going in circles, passing the same streets, going past the shopping centre at least ten times. Waiting for a sighting of his little granddaughter.
*Any news??? XX
Evan looked down at his phone but his eyes were glossy and cracked like marbles and his face was void of any expression. He had no update to give his sister. His mum. His daughters. Nothing of interest, nothing that would give them any sense of hope.
*Nothing yet. Driving round to find her, a woman carried her out the shopping centre. XX
"Why take her?"
Looking down, Evan pursed his lips and looped his right arm around (Y/n)'s shoulders. He let her head slump off his shoulder and down onto his chest and he smothered his lips into her hair when she bound her arms around his torso. She finally let go of the headband, but only to place it delicately on Evan's knee.
The band weighed down on Evan like a ton of bricks had crushed down on his leg. He could feel it burning, melting into his skin and it made his lungs ache like he had breathed in poisonus gas.
"She wasn't in danger, she wasn't wandering… or lost, and I, I'm not a bad mum-"
"I don't know why, baby. But we're getting her back safe." Evan couldn't go down that road. Not yet.
He couldn't bear to imagine what had gone through that woman's mind to make her snatch his daughter like this.
Minnie hadn't been in danger or wandering alone without her family, she had been less than twenty feet from her grandma when that woman took her. She wasn't in danger of being run over or hurt or snatched by anyone else. Minnie wasn't an unloved child, lost and forgotten or abused by her family. And (Y/n) wasn't a neglectful mother.
There was no tangible reason to take Minnie, no explanation or reasoning that could explain what this woman had done to them today.
When her phone began to ring, Athena swiped across and put it on speaker. "Bobby, whereabouts are you, love?" He had been calling every now and then to say where he had checked and whereabouts he was going next so they didn't go down the same streets together, they needed to canvas a wider area.
"Down fifty-seventh street… I've spotted her."
"Where is she? Is she okay?!" (Y/n) surged forward and latched her hands around the passenger seat in front of her while she felt Evan's hand slide down to her lower back. He sat up straighter, more alert beside her as they all waited for Bobby to respond.
Athena turned on her siren and lights and started to speed up. They were only two minutes away from that street.
"I swear it was her, with a young woman. They got into a taxi but he won't pull over so I'm following him. If you head up the top end of the street you can cut them off."
Bobby wasn't an officer, he wasn't in a police car or the fire station truck of the ambulance. Flashing his headlights was only annoying and probably panicking the taxi driver in front of him. And Bobby couldn't overtake and cut them off with oncoming traffic and the taxi speeding up to get away from him.
He knew it was Minnie. He watched a woman bundle a crying toddler into the back of the taxi and he just knew. He wasn't quick enough to stop them before the car drove off, so he did the next best thing and sped after them.
"We're on our way. This is 7-2-7-L-30, in pursuit we have a sighting of Minnie Buckley in a taxi on fifty-seventh street, back up required."
Athena could see and hear Evan tapping his knuckles against the window out of anxious habit. His hand was curled into a tight fist and if he applied pressure, he might just break the window.
"You both need to stay in the car until I can make sure it's Minnie and get her out safely. Do you understand me?"
With a deep breath, (Y/n) looked up at Evan and she knew. She just knew by that look in his eyes. She didn't want to wait in here and he wasn't going to sit back and wait. The moment Athena stopped the car, Evan would bolt. He would go and get their daughter back because this had been a day from Hell and he couldn't have anything happen to her. He couldn't have his daughter hurt or scarred for life by this. He had to have her back in his arms.
The couple braced themselves on the front seats when Athena swerved to the left and blocked off the end of the street. She put the door locks on and climbed out the car, effectively locking her children in the back of the car so they couldn't cause a scene.
"Evan-"
"She's not locking me in here. I'll go get her, baby."
(Y/n) leaned to the right and deadlocked her arms around her chest when Evan pushed forward. He swung his long legs between the front seats, thankful Athena didn't have a barrier in between the back and front of this car. He clambered roughly into the drivers seat and stumbled out into the street. He wasn't waiting, not when his daughter needed him.
"LAPD, turn off the engine and step out of the car." Athena held her gun low at her thigh and tapped her free hand on the driver's window. She could see Bobby's car parked across the road to block the taxi in so there was no escape. Though they both doubted the taxi driver was in on this or would help a kidnapper escape.
When the driver complied and slowly stepped out of the car, Athena pointed to the pavement. "Stand over here please."
Evan held his breath deep in his lungs and walked at a distance from Athena, whose back was turned to him. He didn't want to get her into trouble but he didn't want her to stop him either. He just wanted his baby girl.
His eyes darted to the right and for a split second, he watched Bobby get out of his car. But then Evan's eyes went to the back door of the taxi.
A woman climbed out.
A young woman, younger than Evan, at least. She had shoulder-length black hair and a fringe that almost reached her eyes that were rabid like a wild animal caught in a snare. But when she reached down and grabbed the hand of a little girl who scurried out the taxi, Evan saw red.
A purple dress with flowers. Plain white tights that were now ripped and black around the knees. Red shoes that were lathered in mud and about to drop off her little feet. That pencil-straight hair that was so thin if it had been blonde, she would of looked bald.
Those big doe eyes made Evan see red. His baby girl. That was his daughter, and she was trying to take her away from him.
The woman began to run. She hurried as fast as she could to the pavement, dragging Minnie with her who kept falling and scuffing along the road, unable to keep up and she clearly didn't want to either. She wanted to stop, she wanted to go home. She was lost, on a street she didn't know with a strange woman and she was hurt. She wanted to go home.
A blood-curdling cry left Minnie's lips as she moved her free hand to her mouth and began to sob. Her eyes scrunched up tight as tears stained her face and her feet bent and scuffed along the pavement.
Why was she being dragged around? Where was her mummy? Why had this lady taken her away from the shops? Why did none of her family follow or meet them outside like the woman said they would?
"Minnie!"
"Buck don't you dare!"
Evan broke out into a sprint, ignoring Athena's warning and moving faster when he saw Bobby aiming for him or Minnie, he couldn't be sure. But he wanted to get to her first. It was like a race, a competition, and Evan needed to win. He had to.
When Minnie stumbled, she flopped onto her already bruised and bloodied knees that had cut open when she fell just outside the shopping centre. Her hands scraped the floor and she let out a belting scream, curling up on herself in case the woman grabbed at her again.
Lunging forward, Evan crossed onto the pavement just as the woman either went to grab Minnie by the arm or the hair, he couldn't be sure. She looked panicked and frightened enough to grab her by her hair and haul her up if it would get them away from here any quicker.
"Touch my daughter again and I'll break your arm!" He caught her wrist mid-air, a split second before she could reach his little girl.
He could feel his boots touching Minnie's side, he was standing that close to her and his towering frame cast her in a protective shadow. But his eyes, oh his eyes seared holes right through the woman stood in front of him. His fingers clenched around her wrist until she was whimpering and shaking and he knew he was going to bruise her skin. If he clenched just a little more, he might even break a tendon or a bone.
He was desperate to. Evan wanted to crush her wrist into dust. He wanted to throw her down to the floor and scream at her. He wanted her to see the agony she had put all his girls through today.
To see what she had done to Evan's wife, how she had traumatised all his children and how petrified she had made Minnie by doing all of this.
When Evan let go of her wrist, an overwhelming wave of protection flooded through him like a tsunami. And before the woman could move an inch, Evan doubled over and grabbed his daughter.
He scooped Minnie up as she screamed, uncertain who it was that now had hold of her. But the moment she was nestled into that comforting chest and smelled that mixture of cologne and smoke, she simmered down into quiet cries and whimpers. Her arms bound around Evan's neck and she nuzzled her face into his skin as he peppered her temple and cheeks with kisses.
"Oh baby… it's okay, you're safe now. Me and mummy are here, we've got you little mouse."
Evan bounced her up and down against his chest, quietly shushing against her temple as he turned his back to the taxi and the woman who was now being detained by Athena.
"Mummy?"
"Yeah, mummy's here too baby, and nan and pops. We've been looking all over for you." He moved his hand up to cradle the back of her head and tangled his fingers through her thin hair. He didn't get two steps towards the police car before (Y/n) was clambering out of the open driver's side door and pelting across the road towards them.
"Mummy," Minnie sniffed and went off into another round of crying as Evan carefully lowered her down into (Y/n)'s arms.
As soon as Minnie was in her arms, (Y/n) closed her eyes and went down on her knees. Evan thought for a moment that she had collapsed or even fainted with relief, but she hadn't. She didn't have the strength to hold herself up any longer.
She tucked her face into Minnie's neck and started to rock back and forth, cuddling her close as if this was the last time she was ever going to see her.
A shiver rolled down (Y/n)'s spine when she felt Evan kneeling behind her. His knees pressed up into her leg and his chest curved around her, pulling her back into his chest so he could wind his arms around both her and Minnie.
"Are you okay baby, are you hurt?" (Y/n) brushed her sleeve beneath her eyes to clear her vision before she gently stood Minnie up in front of her and Evan so they could look at her properly.
She stuffed her thumb into her mouth and sniffed, letting them both reach out for her and check her for any injuries. When (Y/n) gently took both her hands and looked at them, she began to whimper. There were grazes along her palms, nothing major or deep but for a toddler, it would sting and distress her.
Evan carefully reached out for her left leg when he noticed she was leaning her weight on her right foot rather than balancing between the two. He didn't want to take her shoes off here and now in the street to assess her, but he figured it was either her foot or her ankle that was causing her pain when she flinched away from his touch.
And the cuts on her knees were clear as day. Her previously bleached white tights had large holes ripped through them with loose threads hanging loose around the sides. Blood was soaked into the fabric of her left knee which was cut open and her right knee wasn't much better, grazed and scuffed, lightly bleeding.
"Oh, little mouse."
Minnie whimpered again and pushed forward until she could flop against Evan's chest and shimmy until he lifted her up off her aching feet.
He held her as close and as tightly as he dared without smothering her, looped his left arm around (Y/n), and slowly rose to his feet. He kissed the top of (Y/n)'s head when she bound her arms around his torso and tucked herself beneath his arm.
She was okay. They had her back. Athena was arresting the woman and she would find out why she had decided to take Minnie and what she thought she was going to do with her. Bobby was beckoning them over to him as he leaned up against the bonnet of his car, arms folded tightly over his chest. But the relief was evident on his face.
"Come on, let's get you home."
19 april 2025
about time to get back on track and holding myself accountable (pls i can’t do this anymore but do we have a choice ? no we do not)
okay so i’m revising my entire 12th physics syllabus today cuz 🧚‍♂️🧚‍♂️ yeah i need to revise this shi. also been so bored of making my own coffee everyday so i went out for a walk and got myself coffee from my fav cafe ehehehhe (the only good cafe close to my home tbh but its yum so idm)- as you can see, ive replaced that dying paper straw with my straw cuz i refuse to have my coffee taste more like paper than coffee.
also got off instagram to lock in for the next two weeks :) and i got my viteee admit card and centre which is like 17 kms from my home and reporting time is 8 in the morning (kill me, i sleep at 5 am) and the traffic in my city is terrible at all times of the day sooooo let’s hope we make it on time 🤞🏼 also very scared for the aptitude test part of viteee
and as you can see, my desk is an appropriate reflection of the chaos in my brain. the sticky notes everywhere is very anxiety inducing but i’ve gotten used to it to a good extent so it’s okay.
14 days left for neet. i might acc cry- not cuz im scared but i’ll genuinely miss this phase of life sm:( spending most of my nights at this desk, trying to memorise the exceptions for inorganic chem or studying biology ncert for hours and hours on end without realising it’s been five hours , it’s really been a journey :( i wish id worked harder honestly but what’s done is done and i did do my best everyday and don’t have many regrets.
could you do like the outsiders x reader whose like a huge party girl? Like Charlie xcx brat type beat😭 idk I js think that would be interesting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝐚/𝐧: im on a slow streak atm sorry y'all. im trying my best
Darry Curtis:
Darry doesn’t really see the appeal of partying all the time, but he won’t ever stop you, as long as you’re being safe. If you try to drag him along, he won't argue all the while he’s not busy with work or his brothers; it’ll do him good to get out of the house anyway.
He’ll be keeping an eye on you 24/7, making sure nothing gets too wild or out of hand. He won’t entirely loosen up, but he might have a few drinks before taking you back home.
Sodapop Curtis:
Soda loves your party energy and always matches it perfectly. He’s the first to join you when dancing, grabbing your hand and spinning you dramatically until you’re both dizzy and doubled over with laughter.
He feeds off your wild side, and while he doesn’t drink himself, he hasn’t got a problem with you having a few drinks. He’s your biggest hypeman and will always cheer you on when your dancing or showing off.
Ponyboy Curtis:
Pony gets a little overwhelmed by your partying behaviour and doesn’t really see the appeal, but he’ll support it nonetheless. He wont really join in, and if he does, he probably won't enjoy it.
When he does tag along, he'll probably stay on the sidelines, much preferring to watch you and silently cheer you on while keeping an eye on you. If he stays home and you go out, he’ll wait up for you to make sure you’re okay.
Johnny Cade:
Johnny is way out of his comfort zone when it comes to parties, but he won't ever judge you for it. He probably secretly admires your outgoing and energetic personality, and it helps him to ease up and relax a little.
If you take him to a party, he’ll find a quieter spot to relax while you have fun, more content to just sit and watch you with a fond smile.
Dallas Winston:
Dally loves a good party, and the fact that you do too makes it all the better. He thrives on the chaotic energy, so he’s always right there beside you, causing a scene. You two can get absolutely wild and always end up being the talk of the party.
He loves watching you let loose, admiring your charm and confidence while bragging that you’re “his girl.". If anyone tries anything with you, however, Dallas will very quickly shut it down.
Steve Randle:
Steve adores having someone to party with who can match the energy. He’ll always dance with you right in the centre of all the chaos, making you laugh and hyping you up. He wants everyone to see you and know you’re the star.
If you go overboard, however, and he thinks you’re getting a little too carried away, he isn’t afraid to pull you away and bring you home.
Two-Bit Mathews:
Two is thrilled to have someone who loves a party as much as him. You two are the duo, and everyone is talking about you before the end of the night. He’s the life of the party alongside you, always keeping the energy high.
He loves that you’re just as wild as him, and that you can most likely keep up with his drinking. However, if you start feeling rough, he’ll tone it down and go somewhere quieter with you.
. . . The stadium was alive with energy as the winning goal went into the net, the roar of the crowd almost deafening. The overhead lights shone brightly, resulting in a harsh glow over the field as the fans cheered on the team, the air filled with excitment.
Hurriedly, you grabbed the massive camera sat next to you as you prepared to run to the field. The smell of the grass invaded your nostrils as distant sounds of the commentators rang through your ear, the pulse of adrenaline pumping in your veins as you set foot on the pitch.
Weaving through the crowd to get to the centre was a tough mission, making you constantly bump into others; partially because of your eagerness, and partially because of the hoard of people gathered there.
Finally, after a few minutes, you made it to the centre of the pitch, where all the players were gathered, posing for the cameras or celebrating with each other.
It all seemed magical; the noise of the fans, the shouts of the players, the joy from the coaches. You knew you didn't want to be in any other place right now. This felt right, this felt like home.
People were scattered throughout the pitch, some still celebrating, others catching their breath, their voices echoing as they shouted to one another. The smell of the grass mixed with the faint scent of sweat in the cool evening air, creating a strange calm amidst the chaos.
Your camera clicked away, capturing the moments, but your focus never truly wavered. You knew exactly who you were looking for. The crowd around you began to thin, the players shifting in position as they moved for the next round of photos.
And then, without catching yourself, your eyes quickly scanned the field out of instinct. Searching for his.
Cole's.
You could have stopped, could have torn your gaze away and focused on continuing on taking pictures of the other players. You could've totally ignored his presence, pretending that he didn't exist. But no.
As if time slowed down, yours eyes were greeted with his. You didn't want to notice it, you really didn't, but you couldn't help but note the way his eyes glinted under the stadium lights. The sight of him made your heart flutter, but it was fleeting, almost like a dream you could never quite hold onto.
Anticipation filled your chest, at the thought that maybe Cole felt the same way. Maybe you two were thinking the same thing. That there was a homuncular percentage that his eyes were searching for yours, like you were with his.
You held your breath, heart pounding inside your chest. He still hasn't looked away, the hope and anticipation grew larger. You could just-
Cole tore his eyes away, and the moment was gone.
Just like that.
He didn’t look back, his focus shifting elsewhere as he started to walk across the field. The familiar sense of being invisible settled over you like a heavy weight.
And then, just as your heart began to sink, he brushed past you, his shoulder barely grazing yours. The touch was brief, and you could've swore that he hesitated, as if a ghost of his hand came over yours. But then he continued walking, leaving you there. Your chest stung with pain, stomach already by your feet.
That touch; a small, unconscious act to people, but what felt like a secret connection to you, now nothing more than an afterthought.
He moved towards a family member, arms opening wide for a hug. You stood there, camera in hand, and watched as he embraced them, his attention fully on someone else, leaving you to fight the growing lump in your throat.
The smile on his face brought back memories; heavy, deep memories that you've kept buried in the back of your mind. Now, they were resurfacing, the remnants of your heart shattering piece by piece.
He was now posing for the other photographers, acting like you weren't even there, like you didn't exist to him.
Once, you were the only one getting those special pictures of him. You were the only one who would see that side of him. The one person he went out of his way to get good pictures for.
"Cole! Stay still!" You grinned widely, the cold winter wind biting at your cheeks. Cole's laughter rang out as he shifted from one foot to the other, trying to dodge the camera's lens.
The snow crunched beneath his boots, but he was still a blur of motion, making it impossible to get a clear shot.
"How am I supposed to stay still with you acting like this?" he teased, his voice warm despite the chill in the air.
You rolled your eyes playfully, tightening your grip on the camera. "You're impossible," you muttered, but your smile couldn't hide the fondness that came up whenever he acted like this.
Cole grinned, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Come on, just one good picture, and I'll stop moving."
You focused the lens, watching him settle into an exaggerated pose, his usual grin wide and careless. The wind blew through his hair, and for a moment, everything around you seemed to fade. It was just him; looking at you like you held the entire world in your hands.
Your hands tightened around your camera as the memory played like a movie in your brain. And then suddenly, everything came crashing down; the stolen kisses between shots, the way he'd briefly brush his hand against yours, the little comments whispered as you worked, the glances mid game.
Those things all held a deep place in your heart. And now they were gone.
Gone because your busy schedules pulled you apart, because it wasn't fair to hold onto something that was slipping away. He was always traveling for games, and you had your own commitments. Late night calls turned into unread messages. The time you spent together shrank until there was nothing left.
Deep down, neither of you truly wanted to let go. He told you it was for the best. That it wouldn’t hurt as much this way.
But standing there, watching him ignore you like a stranger, you wonder if he really meant it, or if he just got better at pretending.
Regret seeped into your veins, like the venom of a snake that struck its teeth into your skin. You should've taken more photos of him when you had the chance; the realisation had you clutching your camera tightly, fingers wrapping around it like a python strangling its prey. You wished you had a thousand more moments frozen in time.
The crowd almost felt distant now, the stadium was too big, too overwhelming. Your head spun slightly, and someone bumped into you, almost knocking you off balance.
The click of the camera felt empty now, like capturing moments that no longer belonged to you. You should’ve taken more pictures back then. Maybe if you had, you wouldn’t feel like everything was slipping through your fingers now.
Exhaustion washed over you like a rain shower, causing you to feel slightly nauseous. Everything felt too much; the lights were too bright, the cheering was too loud, the moving crowd making your head spin. You felt a major imbalance wash over your body.
The feeling intensifies when you see him there, standing between the crowd, somehow catching your attention even though he was just another figure. It was too overwhelming. Everything felt weird, your vision blurred and your head spinning like a carousel.
Suddenly, as if a switch had flipped, your knees give up from under you. Your breath caught in your throat, closing your eyes, the drowsiness and nausea getting too much. You braced yourself to hit the ground, but instead, you fell into something else.
You opened your eyes, instantly regretting your decision as they opened to the blinding lights. Cole was standing next to you, hands gripping your shoulders and waist to keep you from falling. He blinked, eyes scanning your face for any hint of injury.
Even though he acted distant, he still cared for you. His immediate instinct was to catch you, having watched you struggle to stand up straight for the past few minutes. As soon as your knees buckled, he rushed over, gribbing your upper body to make sure you didn't fall.
His touch felt grounding, like something familiar in the midst of chaos. He hesitated for a second, then let go of you, but not before making sure you could stand up on your own.
Cole noticed your pale face, but he forced himself to step back. He wanted to make sure that you were okay, but he also didn't let himself linger too long. Finally, he spoke, his words sharp and sudden.
"I have to leave."
You shouldn't have been surprised, but it felt like a stab to your heart. It felt like he was forcing himself to create distance again.
He handed you a water bottle, giving you one last stare before he left. He didn't even give you a chance to talk, a chance to say anything.
As you gulped the water, the dizziness faded, but the emotions were still there. It felt like the moment left a deeper mark than just physical exhaustion, it left a big, deep cut right across your heart. The contrast from how grounded you felt when he was holding you and now was almost inconceivable.
And then, as you turned to leave the field, you felt a pair of eyes watching you. His. You didn't look up, didn't glance around to see where he was.
Instead, you took a deep breath and left the pitch, leaving everything that happened behind. As you entered the stadium floor, you looked back and saw him watching, eyes never leaving yours.
Your phone rang, the vibration snapping you out of the moment. You grabbed it, checking the caller ID.
Cole
Maybe this wasn’t the end. Maybe it was.
Analysing the clips from the hbh s3 filming announcement vid bcs i need s3 rn or i might die
-Putting this one at the top before doing the rest in chronological order bcs this clip has really interested me: Its a clip of a scene being filmed when Missy and Sasha are clearly arguing which means Missy is FINALLYYY calling Sasha out for her shit. Also Spider's behind missy its giving either missy being protective girlfriend and defending spider or spider being protective and ready to jump in if needed?? Also Ant is stood with Spider bug bfs crumbbb. And Harper and Amerie are like behind Missy too definitely backing missy up i already love this scene without even having context to it. Also Ants silly lil sunglasses on his head i love him.
-The leavers tops mean we are getting them graduatingggg the way im gonna SOBBB
-Quinnis mushroom hat is the cutest im so jealous + all the quinni outfits in the vid are looking soso cute
-The third clip looks like they are actually filming a scene there bcs of the camera so I guess they are wearing builder hats bcs from what you can see of the set it looks like part of the school (the burnt bit) is under construction whilst the rest is still fine so no weird moving to another school yippee!! Also guarantee they are meant to not go on the construction sight and it literally becomes the slts secret hangout spot calling it now. There's so many angles of this scene being filmed just in the one vid so it must be a big one.
-Somebodys written an absolute paragraph in red pen on ants top right leg on his leavers pants (guarantee its spider) and also they have nerf gunssss so MUCK UP DAY CHAOS!!
-HARPERS LONG HAIR IS SO PRETTY also i just know that whole lil scene of her walking with her headphones on is gonna be so slay
-There's a scene being filmed in the design technology classroom (which we know ant canonically takes) with Spider sat on a desk (looking HOT btw) with Missy stood beside him looking even hotter (we are deffo getting them as a public couple in s3 i cant wait bcs in one shot of that scene i looks like spider has his arm around her back) and cash sat next to and behind spider on a desk whilst Ant sits on a desk at the front and centre of that scene with a sculpture head on the table (could be like his exam project??) but overall it looks like they are all just talking about something in a big circle- Quinni and Darren are together by Ant, Harper is next to Missy and Spider and Amerie is leaning on Ant's desk. The hbh official insta caption says smth about a revenege prank going horribly wrong so maybe they are all sat there stressing and discussing what to do or smth?? Also its notable that all the slts are in that room except sasha.
-Sashas long hair also slays and brodie (ants actor) is in the background of that clip in a leopard print jacket which 1.Ant is gonna slay in 2. I hope this means they might finally acknowledge the fact that Ant isn't fully straight properly.
-Somebodies written Antman on the back of Ant's leavers shirt just a cute lil detail for ya xoxo
-Looks like there might be a scene with Harper, Ant and Amerie which I love bcs its Harpers 2 fave people <33
-Its a clip of the actors together but this also means we could get Spider, Ant and Quinni as a trio in a scene which is random but im lowkey here for it bcs its just gonna be quinni and ant hyping eachother up and causing absolute chaos whilst spider tries to reign them in lmao.
-Ant and Harper's actors getting promo photos together means they are gonna get promo'd as a couple they are coming in s3 guys!!
-SPIDER IN THE BLACK VEST IM GONNA DIE HE LOOKS SO HOT and look at the way Missys showing him her nails thats deffo a cute couple scene they were filming like awww
-Quinnis leavers jacket saying jellyfish is so sweet the lil throwback to s1 and QuinniDarren friendship :')
-I have mixed feeling on Cash's jacket saying cash after finding out what that means im praying the writers dont forget abt that but i trust they wont
And thats my ramble over if ur still here thank u!!
honestly the only thing i wish now since team past won is that we don't get a great turf war game.
A more past based aesthetic sounds inherently cooler for a game no matter what people say.
I think i was being a little too harsh and mean towards Team Past and I was riding the high of the Grand Fest....
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, what makes Splatoon's world so special is that it's world follows our time, a year passes in our world, a year passes over there. Stopping the timeline would be a bad idea and I think the developers know better. I have faith in them.
I dont think we're gonna get a great turf war game because Splatoon 4 was most likely already in pre-production before the Grand Fest, and they are just choosing what aesthetic to wrap the game in. They probably have a bunch of storylines planned out too and now they can get to work on the next game. That's just how game development works, especially Nintendo ones where gameplay is first and story is second.
The results of the final Splatfest of each game do make an impact but not THAT big of an impact. Callie vs. Marie decided who was gonna play the villain role in the next hero mode as they already placed down the set up for that story line in the songs Tide Goes Out and Bomb Rush Blush, as well as the Splatfest dialogue creating tension between the two.
Marie won so the developers gave Callie some angst, and she strolled down to Octo Canyon, said to good ol' Octavio "Hey I wanna be evil and stuff." And Octavio was like, "aight sick yo. But you gotta wear these hypnotic shades first tho." And Callie was like "COOL! :D"
Chaos vs. Order impacted what the next game was gonna look like aesthetic wise, and even then it's not as extreme as a lot of people envisioned. Splatsville is Inkopolis but basically... a little bit more chaotic and clearly not as wealthy of a city as Inkopolis. Deep Cut's aesthetics and personality were based on the theme of chaos, we would have probably gotten a three person Idol group regardless but what team won in Splatoon 2 impacted what they were gonna look like. The rest of Splatoon 3 is just regular ol' Splatoon. It's not a crazy Mad Max chaotic land like what some were expecting and that Inkopolis was gonna be up in smoke.
And, of course, the losing team was yet again the central theme of the villain, this time, the idea of Order itself and even then its different from how Callie vs. Marie played out. Marina becomes Marina Agitando at the start of the story to get it out of the way and to subvert expectations. And then the real villain, Overlorder takes centre stage.
I dont think we're gonna see the whole "losing team becomes evil" thing because its a tired old trope and it created so much just.... bullshit in the community, I'm gonna be so real. Like you know this already and my stances on Hypno Callie and what people say about her but... I digress!!
I wanna end off my rambles by saying that the best part of Team Past winning, is that Callie and Marie got to win TOGETHER! It feels like the perfect cap to their arcs and it feels... good.... you know? It just, makes me happy that these two girls are just finally happy and are on each other's wavelengths so well. They even show that in Blushing Tide but ive already gushed about that song.
I feel like thematically Team Past/Squid Sisters winning feels.... perfect? It feels... right? I guess? Starting off in darkness and hate, fighting each other, coming together after being reminded of the good times they've had, healing their broken bond, finally winning... as a team...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think im taking the loss pretty well LMAO! I mean I was on the winning team of Chaos vs. Order so I'm perfectly fine with coming in second place.
OMG PLEASE SHARE YOUR SLEEPING BEAUTY AU!!!! SOUNDS AWESOME
-👾
IM MORE THAN HAPPY TO :D
So here it is, my Ghostknife Sleeping Beauty AU (or should I say Dead Beauty because y’know. Wiwi.)
Once upon a time, there was a medieval kingdom named Prime, ruled by King and Queen Wisp. The two of them, needing an heir, had a son, who they name William.
On the infant's first birthday, they hold a celebration at the palace, inviting nobles from across the realm to attend. This includes some members of the Prime Force, powerful enchanters who protect the kingdom: the ones in attendance include Harlem Shade, wielder of the darkness; Tide, wielder of the oceans; and Ms. Gilbert, the Prime Force’s leader. Each of them bestow a magical gift upon William. Ms. G blesses him with intelligence and curiosity; Harlem blesses him with a connection with the darkness; and Tide-
Tide doesn’t get a chance, as it is then the party is interrupted by an unwelcome guest; an infamous, dangerous being of pure chaos known as the Trickster.
The Trickster, before anyone can stop him, places his own gift upon William: before his sixteenth birthday, he will prick his finger and die.
With that, he leaves. The King and Queen are distraught, but Tide does his best to console them. After all, he is yet to give his blessing. Though he cannot undo the Trickster’s powerful magic, he can attempt to weaken it, proclaiming that William will not permanently die. He will one day be awoken from death by true love’s kiss.
As the years go by, William’s parents don’t tell him of his cursed fate, but they are highly protective of him in the hopes of avoiding it. He is not allowed to leave the castle, all sharp objects within it are to be thrown out or dulled, he is placed under near constant supervision. He only has one real friend - Dakota Cole, a child cared for by one of the servants in the castle, the two growing up together. Also Tide, the member of the Prime Force who comes to check in on William the most, but William sees him as more of a guardian than a friend.
But Ms. Gilbert’s gift of curiosity makes William very eager to leave and see more of his kingdom and the world - all the books in the royal library can only tell him so much. When he’s eleven, with the help of Dakota he attempts to sneak out of the castle at night. But they’re caught, and in response his parents order for him to literally be wrapped in so many blankets at night that he can’t physically move.
On the morning before his sixteenth birthday, that’s how he awakens, wrapped up in blankets as usual. But it’s who he is woken by that’s surprising: not his servants, not Dakota, not Tide, not his parents. Rather, it’s a strange man with red skin and wild white hair. He introduces himself as the Trickster, and says he’s one of the enchanters in the Prime Force - a lesser known one who prefers to stay out of the limelight. He says that, in honour of his birthday the next day, William’s parents have allowed him to go out and explore the kingdom.
William is a little suspicious, not knowing why he’s never heard of the Trickster before when his family is so close to the Prime Force (plus this guy just acts really weird)… but his excitement to finally be able to leave gets the better of him. He gets dressed and ready for the day, and then the Trickster creates a magic door that leads right to the town’s centre.
William spends the day wandering around and seeing all he can - though he quickly becomes painfully aware of how inexperienced he is with talking to people. A lot of citizens excitedly approach the prince when they see him; the only exposure they’ve ever had to him has been royal portraits, of course they’re eager to meet him for the first time… but William honestly comes across as incredibly socially awkward to an almost unnerving extent. He does his best to stick to the shadows and go overlooked.
Of course, it doesn’t take long for the news of the prince being seen wandering the town to reach the castle, where his parents have been frantically searching for him since the servants found him absent from his room.
Eventually, William ends up in the woods bordering the kingdom, needing a bit of a break from all of the people. It’s here that the Trickster reappears through another magical door. He asks William a few questions about how his day has been, before nodding to a nearby black rose bush, suggesting William pick one to take home as a memento of his day. William still doesn’t know if he should trust the Trickster… but what could be so harmful about picking a simple rose?
When William’s parents, accompanied by the Prime Force and the royal guard, find William, he is lying unconscious in the grass by the bush, not breathing, no pulse. His finger tip is bleeding, pricked by a thorn of the rose held loose in his grasp, and his black hair has a streak of white, a sign of the curse placed upon him.
Ms. G and Harlem escort William’s grieving parents back to the castle, promising that they will find a way to exact revenge on the Trickster, while Tide takes William’s body to a tower deep in the forest, far enough out and well-hidden enough that the Trickster should hopefully never find him. There, William will rest until his true love is found.
A whole year goes by. William’s parents do their best to identify someone who may be their son’s true love, but it’s a hard thing to do; none of the suitors they interview seem to fit. After a lot of searching and a hard battle, the Prime Force successfully banish the Trickster to a realm known as the chaos zone, trapping him there seemingly for good. It does not break William’s curse, however. The Prime Force’s magic is enough to keep William’s body from decaying for the most part as time progresses. Dakota takes it upon himself to regularly visit the tower to check on his best friend, talking to William’s body in the hopes that maybe he can hear him.
It’s not until what just so happens to be William’s seventeenth birthday that everything changes.
A young elf with long purple hair, wearing the outfit and face-mask of a rogue, is wandering the forest, looking for a place to sleep for the night. He eventually comes across a secluded tower - seems like the perfect place.
He pulls out a sword, which magically shifts into a chain and grapple, which he uses to scale up the wall, entering the single room at the top. He goes to the bed, intending to sleep - only to find a boy, one that seems about his age, lying there.
The rogue initially thinks the boy is sleeping and almost leaves - but then he notices, the boy is incredibly pale, his fingertips are purple, he isn’t breathing, he has no pulse. He seems… dead.
The rogue freaks out, instincts taking over to try and resuscitate the boy. Though he has magic, it’s undertrained, and healing isn’t exactly his strong suit, so he ends up pulling off his mask, leaning down and trying to breathe some air into the boy’s lungs.
And it is as soon as their lips press together that William wakes up.
The first thing he registers is pain. His body is slightly decayed, he’s still half dead. But he’s awake.
Then he registers the lips that are currently pressed against his own.
He abruptly sits up, catching the rogue by surprise… and then instantly starts panicking. Where is he? What happened to him? Why does his body hurt so bad? Why did everything go blank after picking that rose? Who the fuck is this weird guy who seemed to be kissing him?!
The rogue does his best to calm William down. He introduces himself as Vyncent Sol, saying that all he knows is that while travelling he found a tower, climbed it, found William seemingly dead, and tried to revive him. William, still incredibly shaken by the fact he was, well, dead, but less on the verge of a panic attack, introduces himself too - but leaves out that he’s a prince. It isn’t exactly at the forefront of his mind at that moment.
Vyncent, not really knowing what else to do now, awkwardly says he should be going, about to leave - but William isn’t exactly comfortable being left alone in a tower in the middle of the forest, not knowing where his kingdom is or how to get there. He asks Vyncent if he can travel alongside him, figuring he might find home along the way. Vyncent is hesitant, but ultimately agrees. It can’t exactly be good to leave a kid who was just dead alone in the woods, can it?
As the two travel across the realm, William learns more about his half-dead state following an encounter with some will-o-wisps in the forest. He seems to have some new ghostly abilities that they show him how to use: intangibility, levitation, invisibility, the ability to summon blue fiery wisps… It’s a little cool, but also incredibly anxiety-inducing to learn he’s not quite fully alive.
Also along the journey, William learns more about Vyncent - his real name is actually Virion, and he’s from a magical kingdom on a floating island. It was recently attacked by a lich, which banished him away through a portal. He is now trying to find his way home, hoping that his father’s team of adventurers, The Greats, will have defeated the lich by the time he returns.
William resolves to keep quiet about being a prince and not return home yet. Vyncent saved his life after all, the least he could do to repay that would be helping the guy get home. Plus, he wouldn’t mind spending a little more time with Vyncent…
Meanwhile, Dakota goes to William’s tower for another of his regular visits. When he heads inside and finds William’s body absent, his first instinct is to try and summon the Prime Force; but the ritual he knows doesn’t seem to work? So he figures they’re busy and therefore it's up to him, starting to venture out on his own journey to find William.
He doesn’t consider how odd it is that the Prime Force would ignore a magical signal coming from the prince’s tower, especially Tide who would check up on William’s body almost as regularly as Dakota. It also doesn’t occur to Dakota that he hasn’t actually seen any of the Prime Force around the castle in a few weeks.
Back to William and Vyncent, after a week or so of travelling they’re tired and need a break, some rest and good food - and they may just get that as they run into a boy called Ashe Winters. The three get along pretty well. Ashe apparently lives on a farm with his father, Mark, and he invites William and Vyncent to stay for a few days. Mark is reluctant, but agrees on the condition that William and Vyncent pull their weight and help out around the farm while they’re there.
As they take the guest room in the farmhouse and stay for a while, they can’t help but pick up on how occasionally Ashe acts… a little off. Like something else takes over him. Plus, he has this book in his room that he refuses to let anyone else touch, which William can sense has some kind of spiritual energy. And for some reason, every time William and Vyncent bring up leaving to continue their journey, Ashe is really, really insistent they stay just a few more days…
hey johnnyyyy whats up!! who's your fave lifer and why :3c
-ur mutual, felix!!
honestly i think my fav is scar, he's in my top 3 anyway. i love grian and mumbo but with them they just dont have that perfect balance that scar has, what i mean is that scar does dumb things that could end badly for him but yet he also managed to WIN sl and come second in tl. he's also all about befriending (and scamming) other people, which naturally means he's at the centre of the chaos and interacts with others a lot, which is something i really like. and finally, hes just a really good person in my opinion, he's super positive, funny, creative and carismatic and that comes across a lot in his videos.
(also im not gonna lie here, between that one mcc photo and hotguy fanart as a whole, scar has done a lot for my gay ass)
but thanks for the ask, felix! -johnny out XD
The fandom hasn’t been this much of a mess since 2021. I’m still here mostly because I feel like the announcement is coming soon and at this point I’ve been around too long to just dip.
But man, seeing gwynriels mock the elriels who left actually has me seething. Acting like they’re just too sensitive for fandoms or scared their ship is sinking. Like, really? People can’t even leave without getting dragged? It’s like they can’t turn off the ship war mindset for five seconds and realize that real people were actually hurt. Instead they just make fun of them on their way out. It’s messed up. And the worst part is that the wrong people are leaving. Like I get why, but it’s always the kind ones who go. How many times is this gonna happen? I’ve seen so many good people leave over the years and many never came back.
This week sucked ass. Easily one of the worst since the 2021 chaos. So many who joined the fandom after silver flames just have no decency. I just feel weirdly empty now. We really need that announcement.
A fandom is meant to be a space of fun. A space where you can shut off from real life issues & problems - and simply enjoy, stressfree for a while whether that’s through creating content or simply consuming it. Obviously it will be inevitable that some real life issues filter through into fandoms, however it should always be talked about with empathy, caution and care - so those that are affected or going through these issues aren’t so triggered.
That side were simply not mature enough to handle such heavy topics. Their posts were careless and triggering. Any sane, normal person would be able to understand why people are upset and leaving. I think lately, I’ve really come to the realisation that antis do not see elriels as real life people who are going through our own struggles. As you perfectly put it -(and a phrase I will now be using so thanks anon) it seems as though most antis cannot turn off their shipwar mindsets for a minute to look past and understand how these sort of heavy topics are very disturbing. Each post they made this past week about the issue/article basically went
“Yh no sure the article was wrong…but like, its just an opinion and tbf the author did write it as such where people would y’know bring up Elain not having the right anatomy…so blame Sjm and not the readers/journalist and…like, its not a big thing - elriels have said so much worse! And honestly…they’re just mad bcs the point make sense and they can’t deal with that. It was nothing to make such a big deal about”
I know this might come across as mean but, you know when a young teenager or even child enter spaces meant for more mature adults - they dont understand or grasp on how to communicate with the conversations going on in that space. They just end up blabbering and saying dumb stuff, missing the point. THAT is how antis have acted this past week.
You know, Im going to be real with you. Everytime I think antis can’t go any lower then they already have - every time they prove me wrong. Who and why is anyone creating posts & making fun about those leaving due to feeling triggered? Its just immature and pathetic. People have a life outside of the shipwars, something most antis won’t know about. I feel like most of them are consumed within the shipwars and its the centre of their lives.
You’re so right anon. The wrong people are leaving. The people that make the fandom a better, brighter place that have put nothing out but positivity. Its sad to see them go but hopefully they’ll be back once we finally get something about the next book.
Im convinced most who joined after SF - its either their first fandom experience or most of them are just attention seekers. At this point, I simply have stopped caring about anything fandom related, you’re right. I also feel empty and tired - just done with this fandom but Im just praying we get an announcement soon. Match preferably - we need something new to create a positive buzz again.
Batfam Reality TV show
Ugh FINE I'll tell you about my Batfam Reality TV show HC's okay? jeez... (nobody asked).
Before i yap, this idea has been swearving around in my brain like a wagon tied to a angry rhino for a while now. I can't remeber if i was inspired by other posts so if im accidentally stealing someones idea or someone has similar posts pls lmk so i can I'll tag them :). Also reminder that these are Head Cannons, if you don't agree then thats okay. These are just the senarios I play in MY head. (pls ignore all spelling mistakes, im lazy)
Okay, I feel like a reality TV show centred around the batfam would be so funny. Like, a bunch of self aware traumatized orphans hanging around in a mansion. The Kardashians but actually likeable, humble (well, it depends) and absoloute chaos, and not the "omg youre so chaotic lmao" but instead "Ah shit, someone is trying to break in to confess their love to Brucie again, someone call the cops" kind of chaos.
Bruce Wayne is the prince of Gotham. He has built Gotham from the ground up and he is loved by the majority of Gotham residents and even villains. In this cenario, Bruce's billionare playboy days are behind him, and works more like a tired dad who is just trying his best (good parent Bruce Wayne basically). He really has no idea how or when most of these people became a part of the family but is just happy they're there. Mabey Selena Kyle /or Clark Kent could be a side character and there could be a B-plot where Bruce is panicing about proposing or something. Is chronically reading the newspaper. Bruce is also the type of parent to really try to BOND with his family. Puzzles, games, trips, picknics, lgbtq+ merch ect.
Dick Grayson lives, and even has a key to the city of Bludhaven but still visits home regularly. There is an on-going gag where Dick always talks about longing for a relationship but when sees his ex'es while out and about and turns 180° and hides. (its my HC i can do what I want. Dick is a terrible long-time boyfriend, okay).
There is also a scene where Dick makes fun of Tim for being emo (he was just on his phone) and the rest of the Batfam in their one-on-one interviews show pictures and share horror stories from Dick's 'Hot topic, MCR, stealing dads car, eyeliner, youre not my real dad, ugh' phase from his teenage years and a screen shot of Bruce Wayne holding up a picture of Dick with a joint hanging out of his mouth becomes a meme format. Another clip that went viral is a home video where Alfred is scolding Dick for staying out late and he goes "UGH" and backflips out of the room. It cuts right back to Dick where he is smiling and hugging Damian being all ":D".
Jason Todd is thought to have been dead by the people of Gotham for years but as the season progresses, can be seen more and more often in the backround like walking into rooms while people are giving their one-on-one interviews and slowly backing out, or him just walking past a room, or as soon as the camera crew enters a room Jason makes eyecontact with the viewer and just turns around and leaves. There was an intstance that sparked a lot of controvercy online where Roy Harper came to the mansion looking for Jay and the batfam just stared at him, looked to the camera crew and then looked back at him. He swiftly left after rambiling about his terrible grief. (nobody bought it)
They all grew lazy nearing the end of the season and Jason just sits at the dinner table with everyone there, the camera never focuses on him and nobody mentions that he IS actually alive and is sitting RIGHT THERE. Jason just covers his face with his free hand while he eats and can just be seen in the backround while people talk. Jason says something and the camera turned to Bruce, and the editors, very poorly, tried to make it seem like Bruce was the one talking when it was obviously Jason.
In season two of "THE WAYNES" Jason finally joins the cast and admits in a one-on-one interview that he is, in fact alive and that its not a big deal (they make up an excuse and say that he just didnt like papparazzi/had a brain injury or something so he faked his death). This is never mentioned again.
Duke Thomas lives in the manor and was adopted by Bruce (again, its my HC i can do what I want). Duke is the moral compass and seemingly the only one that actually does their own chores. He is constantly just staring out into the madness that is the rest of his family since he is one of the newer member of the family. He, along with Tim are the only ones that can cuss out Bruce without reprocussion. Damian gets kind of jealous of Duke becasue Alfred the cat seems to like Duke a lot, and Dami is afraid of Alfred the cat choosing Duke as his new favorite person. Duke is extremely aware of this and shoo's Alfred the cat away and pretends to not like cats when Damian is around (to soothe his soul a bit).
Tim Drake is also one of the few members of the family that actually lives at home. Tim is a skater kid and Ipad kid at the same time somehow. He is also the ONLY person in the manor (Alfred excluded) that Bruce doesn't scold (it would be weird, since Tim basically babysat Bruce after Jason died).
Tim and Bernard Dowd start dating during the filming of S1 so there are a lot of scenes of Tim freaking out because Bernard is coming over and of the others making fun of him for looking into every detail of their interactions and overthinking them (was that a romantic gesture or not??). Bernard finally makes an appearence where he gives a short one-on-one where he introduces himself. Bernard quickly rose in ranks in terms of the internets white boy of the month (the TikTok edits went hard).
Cassandra Wayne was also legally adopted by Bruce and is his little princess (she is highly dangerous). She changed her last name from Cain to Wayne, bc i feel like she sees the Waynes as her real family. She looks nice enough but once the audience gets to know her they become aware of her insane competitiveness and how she has everyone in the manor wrapped around her pinkie. She dominates in board/video games and is the only one that can convince Alfred to get take out. Cass also practices ballet and is selectively mute and uses ASL most of the time (i just like the idea of her being SELECTIVELY mute, okay).
She is dating Steph (ITS CANON IN MY EYES). Cass, Tim, Bruce, Alfred, Damian and Duke are the only actual residents of the Wayne manor, the others just come and go like its an open buffet.
There is a scene where Cass, Steph, Tim and Bernard all sit on the couch and tell the camera crew that, "well yes Steph and Tim used to date and didn't get along for a while but now we're all friends". "Steph is tecnically dating her ex's sister but its not that complicated, REALLY". "Well yeah, Bruce conciders Steph a part of the family but its not weird or anything guys I PROMISE". "Well yeah actually, both Tim and I realized we weren't straight during our relationship. Why?" Cass and Bernard also get along really well but Bernard doesnt know any sign language and has to rely on others to translate/ Cass has to write thing down for him (they talk MAD shit).
Stephanie Brown. Damn, how the fuck does she keep get in? Sometimes Steph just sneakes into the manor to watch TV or to raid the fridge, while texting her girlfriend, Cass about how much they miss each other when Cass is litterally just upstairs and they're both too lazy to move. Bruce offered her a key to the mansion but she just responded by saying "nah its more fun this way". Steph is constantly accused of being a gold digger within the home and she doesnt deny the claims but its obvious that she does genuinely hang around because they have all become a family to her (found family basically, ugh im such a sucker).
Damian Wayne is still young so there is not a lot of scenes going into his personal life like at school and stuff but he is still there a lot. Anytime Damian says something socially strange or offputting, the others just chuck it up to Damian being a little weird sometimes teehee, or just tell people to not mind him because he is kind of new around there. Meanwhile, Damian speaks in a very professional and sophisticaded way which creates conspiricy theories among viewers about his upbringing, ESPECIALLY because Damian said something in passing about being raised in a secret mountain society.
The camera crew caught a glimpse of Damian in the yard casually accomplishing amazing feats with a giant sword and then immidietly stopping dead in his tracks when he noticed a wild rabbit in the garden. Keen viewers also noticed this strange phenomenon where Damian somehow wins every argument EXCEPT for when its with Alfred.
(I both love and hate the idea of Damian being a spawn of satan in everyones eyes. It can be funny sometimes but in my universe, Damian gets along well with everyone. Sure Damian is crude and weird but he's a kid, and i want him to have a supportive family that understands why he does and says the things he does. I basically just want Damian unapologetically being a kid.)
Alfred Pennyworth is an interesting person for newer fans of the Wayne family, since he is practically unknows to the public. Alfred introduces himself as the only butler in the Wayne manor and a long time friend of the Wayne family. Viewers quickly realize that Alfred is really the man of the house and it becomes previlant when he goes on a short weekend trip (with a secret girlfriend perhaps, Maggie Page perhaps) and everything falls apart. Bruce doesnt know where he is supposed to be at any given time, a hirearchy is established (Cass is a very unfair leader) and the only person making sure the others are fed is that mysterious figure in the backround (Jason).
Alfred makes it sound like he is only the butler but the rest of the batfam all talk to/about him as the essential part of the family that he is and how he is everyones badass, british, grand papa, dad, butler- babysitter-cook, friend thing.
Barbra Gordon is another unofficial member of the Wayne family. She is always over for game and movie nights and just in general. Barbra and Dick used to date but are on really good terms (suprisingly). Barbra is especially close with Jason, Cass and Dick, and is kind of a mentor/cool older sister figure to the others. Sometimes Jim Gordon visits as well, since he and Bruce are fellas.
In the opening scene of the first episode, the batfam are asked to make a family tree or list of sorts since there are so many of them and Barbra was the only person who remebered that Jason was supposed to be dead (nobody bought it).
This will do FOR NOW. I wasn't be able to fit everything here so ill prolly make a pt.2, where i tell yall abt some silly situations that would take place in a Wayne reality TV show. This is more like an introduction into the convoluted storyline that has been building up in my head (what else am i supposed to do at work?).
I also want to state that Leslie Thompkins is also concidered a family member to me since she is like a surrigate mother figure to Bruce but she won't be hanging around the manor as much as the others.
Ik i skipped a lot of characters that are concidered to be in the batfamily but even I dont know who IS concidered to be in the BatFam atp or I skipped characters that i just dont like/think about as much bc im shallow like that lol.
ALSO ALSO im not a huge BatCat or SuperBat shipper but i just felt like them being in the family dynamic would be interesting. Timid ol' Clark or the HBIC Selena Kyle. I also didnt include friends and stuff that would prob be at the manor all the time too like Roy, Wally, Jon, JLA, TT, YJ ect. blah-blah-blah you get it, I'll stop yapping now.
Curly and Ponyboy couldn’t ever work fast food together for the sole reason the ‘oh I didn’t ask for whip cream’ trend wouldn’t even need to be a thing for them to just randomly whip ice cream or whipped cream at each others faces as hard as they can without warning. Everyone would be terrified of getting caught in the crossfire. Chaos reigns. It’s Carnage. Crime. People trembling in their boots, and in the centre of it all, PaperCut, laughing and covered in melting desserts.
im telling u, closing shift w these two leaves them like this
AND IF A CUSTOMER GIVES ONE OF THEM ATTITUDE??? LMAOOOOO
but anyways god forbid theyre both cooks, bc they WILL make some abomination while working as a way to experiment, the manager walks in and theyre basically having a picnic, taste testing something that would def leave u on or bent over the toilet for the rest of the night, theyre like mordecai and rigby
