I finished reading the atlas paradox

and now you're subjected to my SPOILERY thoughts.

Parisa Kamali: I love Parisa, I have loved her since the first book. I LIKE HER SO MUCH she's funny she's mean she's cool she's kind. She's incredibly powerful. She's so interesting and I really enjoyed how she slowly became "her royal softness". Whenever we have her pov it's so fun. I love how she's not scared of Atlas and how she challenged him. I can't wait to see what she does in the next book. I'm actually excited to see how Dalton has changed and how she reacts to them in the next book. Her relationship with Nico makes me so feel so nice. I also need her to be kiss Reina sometime in the next book.

Nico de Varona: he's been my annoying lil baby since the first book. I loved how he became more fleshed out in this book. I loved how lonely he got, his relationship with Reina and Tristan really intrigues me. HE'S SUCH A CHILD sometimes and I love him for it. Obviously I have spent the two books insane bc I knew he was in love with Gideon, I just knew it and they're just *chef's kiss* also speaking of his relationship with people, I think him and Libby will be stunning as besties, I truly cannot perceive them as romantic. They act so sibling like or even just asshole bestie like.

Reina Mori: when we started with this series I actually had more hopes from her. I feel like she didn't do much (especially in book 2) and my girl really doesn't understand communication. If she just talked to people sigh. But honestly her God thing, I am down. Go off, I'm excited to see her go off the rails bc people didn't talk to her the way she could have understood. I am low-key in love with how funny the duo of Reina and Callum is, tbh. I also get major ace vibes from her.

Libby Rhodes: honestly she was my second least favourite amount the six when we started. She desperately needed the corruption arc we got in the later half of the book. I think I will like her a lot more now. Her crush on belen was stunning to read. I can't wait for Libby to fuck shit up, literally fuck everyone up. And I genuinely truly deeply want her relationship with Nico to just be friendship. Friendships are equally as important and the fact that the universe made them parallel to eachother is my favourite thing.

Callum Nova: honestly I didn't really like him much during the first book, he was fine but we had more interesting characters. BUT DAMN CALLUM NOVA POST HEARTBREAK?? ~~ exquisite ~~ he's so fucking funny and hopeless and sad and pathetic. he is so desperate for love and so upset that he was denied it. He's my pathetic lil meow meow. Also I would LOVE to see him use his powers more in the future. As we keep learning about it, I keep loving him. Also I need Tristan to beg Callum to take him back.

Tristan Caine: actually I didn't enjoy his povs at all in the first book, I couldn't wait for them to be over. He is still my least favourite among the six but in the second book he was more interesting and fun. I'm a lil anxious of how Atlas is gonna use him and his powers. I don't care much of him but I want him to beg Callum or regret it for the rest of his existence. Also I hate LibbyTristan as a romantic permanent thing, they can fuck around and have fun but pls end at that.

Gideon Drake: I have loved him since day 1. He was the softer kinder balance to Nico's aggressive and abrasiveness. He is so interesting, his origin and his powers. I spent both the book wishing we had more of him. Now that we are out of the library maybe he'll get to play a more active role in the book. I am obsessed with Gideon (bc Nico is obsessed with Gideon) I love the tidbits we learn about Gideon like how Libby always liked him more or how max travelled with him for the rescue of the "prince". I want Gideon to have everything he wants, that's all.

Atlas Blakeley: I have been thinking of Giancarlo Esposito as Atlas the entire time. There's no explanation it's just vibes

Here is my take on The Atlas trilogy characters after reading the first two books.

SPOILERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Libby Rhodes - I find her type characters annoying, but omg I loved her in The Atlas Paradox, and while I ind Ezra interesting, you go girl kill his ass. Also I need more of her alone, mainly using her power alone, but I want to see that from both her and Nico, while they're both physicists, I think it would be cool to see even more differences between them.

Nico de Varona - I feel so bad for my man his boyfriend is being hunted and his girlfriend got kidnapped and his bestie is having god complex issues LMAO, no seriously love him, liked him in the first book, loved him even more in the second, him AND GIDEON love it. Also nearly cried when it was said how alone my guy is, he needs family and he will look for it no matter what

Reina Mori - her god complex is so fun yet so crazy to watch unfold, while she is on the side I think her inner monologue is very interesting to read. Not my favourite character, but she and Callum are imo a great duo, need more of them. She and Parisa should just kiss and be besties.

Parisa Kamali - An icon, a legend, gave us the spiciest scenes in the book so we love her for that. Her power and character is perfect, mainly her decline and her helping my boy Nico. Didn't care for her and Dalton that much (overall I didn't care for Dalton) BUT very excited to see more of true Dalton (The prince?) in book 3

Tristan Caine - GET YOUR FUCKING DADDY ISSUES IN CHECK PLS AND THANK YOU!!!! Jk I love all my bitches equally, but him getting so close to all male figures in his life... nope, him and Atlas could make an unstoppable duo but worry not! His gf is back :) Overall Tristan was always a very hit or miss character for me, can't put a finger on why.

Callum Nova - I love him, like forreal, he is my new obsession, he is absolutely hilarious, I love his energy, the shit he causes, he is there to just do shit and I live for it!! Also made me cry, and you know I love blonde bitches that make me cry (cough cough Howl). Overall I need to read more books about Callum Nova type characters, because yes please. Also dw you don't have to hide your hairline from me I will cure your alcohol addiction <333

Ezra Fowler - girlbossed too close to the sun, very interesting tho, but I love Libby more

Leola from Leola's Last Wish (5x02 stargazing scene) is mentioned in Tales of Xadia as the unicorn who helped give humans primal magic, though there's reason to believe she may have also been a Startouch elf herself.

6x05's moonless night could refer to Rayla + Rayllum / Ruthari ("My love will be with you even when the moon is not") or the previous Queen of the Dragons', Luna Tenebris', unsuitable heir who we also know is in S6 in some capacity.

6x06's "Moment of truth" is likely a callback to Runaan's statement about Rayla being an assassin ("there's a moment of truth, and in that moment, you hesitate" 1x02) and also possibly a callback to Callum's line ("moment of truth. let's see if I can really do this") after he gets the Sky arcanum.

6x07 is a reference to Game of Thrones' "Red Wedding" which is an infamously violent and devastating episode.

6x08 seems to reference Flowers of Elarion from Tales of Xadia (I'll be providing a better post explaining why shortly) as 1) Elarion a human city is mentioned in the Midnight Star poem / 3x01 and anchors its connection to Aaravos, and 2) the flowers turn to ash in the morning ("ashes, ashes, we all fall down").

I think this is all the most prevalent lore that might be confusing on the outside, but if I missed something and/or didn't address the thing you're confused about please let me know and I'm happy to answer if I can!

I love the struggle about telling the truth this season. Presenting an illusion, hiding the truth, straight out lying, etc. Rayla figured it out pretty quickly: relationships require trust and transparency. And that’s how she developed a better relationship with Callum and Ezran.

My brother came home as I was watching the escape scene, I paused it, and even though the current frame was on Claudia and “the princes” he knew exactly where I was and was like “the sarcasm thing is coming up right?” I let it play, sure enough within ten seconds we get “it’s a trick?” “Us? Nooooo.” “*thinking* *thinking* *thinking* *💡* *points* sarcasm! 😁” that part has never gotten old for either of us.

I would be here all day if I talked about Soren and Claudia’s dynamic + banter (especially season 2). I love them your honor. S-Tier sibling duo

I love how the breaking of the seal and hammering into the magma beast’s heart are side by side, both are breaking something, and neither can be undone.

Sometimes Viren is dramatic, sure, but I love his storytelling. Also he doesn’t shy away from saying “I’m afraid” and using words like terrified or dread. To me it’s interesting because in most stories the evil overlords never show a single weakness, but he sees his vulnerability isn’t making him seen as weak: it’s making them see him as human. And even if that tactic didn’t always work it still was a genius way to do it.

I love you Soren realizing you made a mistake I love you Soren who lets Corvus go free I love you Soren who vocalizes you made a mistake and doesn’t feel ashamed asking Claudia for help I love you Soren who learns that you’ll never walk again and the first thing you do is say “it’s a good thing, really. I can’t harm the princes now” and re-evaluating what’s important in life.

Also!! I love you Claudia, who was indeed faced with choosing between Soren and the egg/dragonling, and immediately releases her hold on the baby dragon with a little breathless “Soren.” and rushes to his side immediately…broke my heart 💔💔

Callum’s nightmare…I got no thoughts but they did it very well. It felt like we were in a dream with Dream Logic and it was the right amount of unsettling.

I love Claudia and Ezran’s heart to heart. Like they realize that they are not quite on the same side, and Claudia acknowledges that she did do scary and confusing things. And she comforts Ezran as he deals with the grief of losing his father. And I have a feeling that no matter how much they change over the next seasons, this moment on the rooftop, consoling each other and hugging, no sides just comfort, will stick with them forever.

Sarai’s words to Callum helping him breathe have always been comforting to me. I love this scene so much. And then Callum wakes up, and he’s connected to the sky arcanum.

It takes Claudia a really long time to stop breathing heavily after doing the spell that gave Soren his mobility back. You can see it took a lot out of her, and then the…“you’re going to be okay now. That’s what matters.” As her eyes are still black…like oh I see. This one is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the ones she loves are alright, even at the cost of her own body and soul.

Zym flying!!! Ezran’s connection with Zym!! Corvus saying “if I may be so bold, you are a weird king” “I know :)” and Rayla and Callum’s hug at the end…ugh it was so good!! 🤌

ok so we're only a couple eps in but i am already <333 about so many of the characters. bucky and crosby especially my beloveds. i really love all the comparisons being drawn between bucky/nix buck/winters and crosby/webster but i also love how the mota boys are distinctly their own characters. i don't want to say they're cocky and full of themselves because like... some of the easy boys are too lmao. but it's a very different dynamic between the characters than i'm used to seeing in the other hbo war shows and i am living for it

on that note i was a bit wary about most of our main charas being officers but after 2 eps i don't mind a bit! honestly sometimes it's hard to tell rank with all their goddamn fleece lmao but i love how despite being a literal honest to god major bucky is still so chaotic. bless him. the singing scene took me out, and the bike race when they crashed and he and buck were like pulling at each other's clothes to try and get in the lead before the air raid siren went off..... cinema.

OK SO FIRST THINGS FIRST, THE SPRITES ARE INCREDIBLE! I love how Roger carries his stupid lil briefcase around with him everywhere. Roger is so autistic coded and nobody can take that away from me. Also this route made me love Rogergingi more than I already did so :P

Peter is the guy ever. I love that despite how grumpy he is, he genuinely does care about Roger and wants to see him succeed. Also I wanna see what his wife looks like cuz he mentions her a lot. May or may not have a design for her but yk.....

norm with the rest of the dateables cast is so fucking important to me. literal besties squad. like the dialtown tool friends epilogue series made me just become OBSESSED with all of them interacting casually. and like every aspect of it is funny and good. i have a hc that norm builds a house just behind the funfair (like in a semi secluded spot) and that house is the hangout center for the entire polycule. karen is over there painting the scenery, olivers hosting movie nights, randy just Comes Over whenever shes too scared to stay at the ticket booth, fucking BIGFOOT drops by sometimes to hang. it’s just kind of beautiful the life norm leads post ch3 like going from being a hermit and wanting to stay secluded to having this rich tapestry of friends?????? genuinely brings a tear to my eye i LOVE NORM AND HIS FRIENDS WAHHHH

A random headcanon:

(stares openly at tryt) so i have some opinions about norm’s family… HJGNFHFJFBFJ in seriousness tho i have this whole backstory devised about norm’s wife and the child they have right before he gets shipped off to space and the life that his widowed wife and child lead after he’s gone. his wife’s name is betsy and his child’s name is sylvia-grace but she goes by sylvie and they lead a relatively normal life in arizona until sylvie’s old enough to move out and then she goes to california. betsy dies long before norm makes the jump to the present, but sylvie is still kicking! she has a wife and two adult children of her own by then. i don’t think norm would ever get to really Meet them but that’s for very specific reasons that i map out in my fic The Road Yet Traveled, so if this idea intrigues you feel free to read that or just send me an ask! i could talk about this little family forever

General Opinion over said character:

norm has very quickly climbed the ranks in terms of the dateables. like i adore karen and oliver and randy, but norm is just….ohhhhhhhh he’s norm allen!!!!! he has such an interesting outlook on life and again i think he kinda brushes up with mingus in terms of like . characters i think deeply about. i mean i literally wrote a 30k fic that is Mainly about norm’s reconciliation with the past in forging his future. he’s just a guy i think about often!!!! also i do a voice for him and i will randomly pull it out in vcs just to make everyone laugh, which automatically means he’s one of my favs :-)

Review of 10x15

I'll admit I was slightly nervous about this episode before watching. Not because I didn't think it would be good because I did (the writing has improved and paddy always delivers) but because depending the episode was guaranteed to be plot heavy and part of an on going storyline, I was nervous that we wouldn't get a decent glimpse into the burzek family household through Adam's eyes, or if we would get a minor update on Kim's therapy. But I really shouldn't have been nervous because the episode was so good on all fronts.

Adam's growth.

I'll get into the actual plot after, because as much as I liked this episode for the plot, I absolutely adored it for how brilliantly it displayed just how much Adam's grown. He's a proper family man, and I love it.

I adored that opening scene. I loved Adam being a dad, being a shield to keep Makayla's life smooth and allowing for Kim to have the time and space to do her therapy stuff and all that processing without having to worry about her daughter. I also adored it for Uncle Kevin, and showing that Mack has some amazing black family members in her family. And I just adored the scene of her and Jordan. And I loved getting that little update on Kim, knowing that she's told Kevin and just that whole scene. Kev and Adam being besties, it being just a fact that burzek + mack are a family, and enjoying seeing this glimpse of them outside work.

And I loved how throughout the whole episode it was so clear that Adam's very much stepped into and embraced the role as dad, and how he sees things through the lens of that. I also very much loved that it's clear, even when things are enraging him or stressing him, that he's very much got a grip on his hot headedness which I just love to see.

Adam seeing Samantha and Callum through the lens of his own little family with his girls was just... Like so good. I like as well that it's harder for him to see it as black and white as not only one of the only parents on the team but as the one in the trenches seeing and experiencing that.

I adore how that Adam and Makayla very much have their own relationship, their own beats that exist outside of Kim. It's theirs, they're family, and at this point it's more irregardlous of Kim than being because of her and I think that's just really beautiful.

Adam's growth and maturity can be seen throughout this whole episode, how he is with Samantha and Callum, how he is with filling in the team, how he talks, how he's with and about Kim, just everything but the thing to me that stood out the most was that adorable night scene with him and Mack. Then, that's where "Adam's a dad" stood out the most to me. The soft way he is with her, the way yet again it shows their individual relationship with each other, the easy way he is at reassuring her about his injuries and that freaking hand holding. It was everything and it's clear Mack is his world, and not just because Kim is, and I love that so so much.

The plot

I still can't get over how well done the plot this season has been, the writing and everything and it's definitely got a really good pace to it. And I love how we've been getting storylines across episodes and they're well built to. I very much like this Beck plot, although it is slightly predictable in that I already thought we knew they were white supremacists before it was revealed, but that doesn't detract from it.

I like the friendship building between Adam and Samantha and I definitely think he'll be instrumental in hopefully bringing Samantha around to help them build a case against their father.

Also in many ways this has felt like one of the more realistic villains of the show for a while and that's made me thoroughly enjoy it. (Tbf Sean also was very realistic, but him being the chief's son took away from that a bit for me).

Additional comments

I think the thing I disliked the most is the yet again insistence of using their real names of their UC work. And I must say I flinched when Adam used Makayla's real name-- although I also did like it. One, because it shows how grey Adam is finding this, he's invested in Samantha and Callum as a family and two because I'm hoping it was like him just discreetly dropping crumbs that maybe Adam isn't alike her father for Samantha to ruminate on.

I loved the burzek scenes we got. Kim staying back twice to check on Adam and make sure he's okay, and asking is just everything. And I died at "our daughter". And the scene in the bullpen when Kim clearly looks to check on Adam and he nods to give her the okay. And just everything. They are a family and I love it. And I love how Adam very much is the wall that is supporting his family, that his presence allows both of them a security but that they both care so deeply for him too.

I also loved how obviously anxious Kim was when Adam was being tested. Her fidgetiness and just everything, like her composure-- I really loved it because one) it shows that he's more than a teammate to her, he's her family and two) it's a continuation of her traumas, that you can tell it's making her more anxious in that scenario.

And finally I adored how strong Kim asserted that Adam made the right choice. It was parent talking to parent, co parents who are family. And also how in the immediate seconds that followed it felt almost way too intimate for the place they were, in that moment Kim wasn't Burgess, but his partner and I just died!

Lastly, I also yet again really love how the other characters got more of a role than previously as it truly does show that character centric episodes doesn't have to be as restrictive as it has been. It has some ways to go, of course, and I would prefer a slight more element of a kinda b plot esque thing, but it's such an improvement and makes me enjoy the episode 100% more.

What if Nico and Tristan were besties?

HEAR ME OUT! I was vibing on Discord and me and @asimplesweettart came up with the BEST IDEA!

What if Tristan and Nico became something close to best friends, like "worsties". They trust each other like best friends but they want to strangle each other and think of the other as vapid.

Here are some headcannons about that

Basically what happened was in book 1 after learning from Reina that Tristan can see magic, Nico decided that he was going to approach Tristan about it and see if Tristan knew of a way this could help his HYPOTHETICAL creature friend (a.k.a pester Tristan until he agrees to be aid Nico in his valiant effort to figure out Gideon's diet and where to put his litter box)

After Nico bothers Tristan for extended periods of time, they eventually grow (somewhat) fond of each other

Like fond in the "you're my best friend but also I would leave you drowning in a ditch" sort of way

Tristan is constantly having an existential crisis which makes Nico think he is an idiot

Nico is constantly happy which makes Tristan think he is the most foolish person alive

Nico is the only person Tristan can be COMPLETELY honest with (which results in Tristan being even more snarky than normal)

They have sleepovers every week where "no boys" are allowed even though they are boys, this makes absolutely no sense to anyone but them

They do each other's nails <3

At the sleepovers, Tristan rants about how he is in love with literally everyone in the house (except Reina) and Nico calls him "the stupidest motherfucker alive /neg"

Nico will not shut up about Gideon💞🫠💗🥺💖, this makes Tristan want to strangle him

After the knife scene, Nico blows up at Callum for daring to manipulate his worst-best friend. It has the vibes of "Congratulations" from Hamilton without the romantic undertones.

"I know my best friend like I know my own mind. You will never find anyone as mistrusting or unkind. And YET despite that two years ago, he said to me 'This one's mine'. So never forget that you lost him over a choice of wine!"

(because Callum manipulated Tristan so he no longer wanted wine and that's what tipped Tristan off that he was being manipulated)

When Libby is kidnapped some tension rises between Tristan and Nico because Tristan feels like Nico is blaming him for her being gone and Nico feels like Tristan doesn't care enough that she's missing

Tristan still comes to Nico and asks him to help murder him

Over time their murder sessions heal their relationship and they start getting along (as much as they can) again

At the end of book 2, Tristan does not stay at the society because he's influenced by Nico's optimistic view of this world and isn't as interested in making a new one

Gideon, Max, Libby, Nico and Tristan now all have to fix in Nico's one-bedroom apartment because he refuses to get a new one XD

i was the person with those tags but ur tags are also glorious and like callum and rayla are so funny, because like rayla holds herself to such a high standard where she's constantly catapulting between doing the worst shit bc she refuses to 'burden' anyone else with her bullshit (and ends up doing so anyway by accident) vs her thinking she has to constantly sacrifice herself for the boys / any particular stranger but esp the boys because they're so much better, than her, right? so much stronger and kinder and good and she's not any of those because she's rayla (even when she's all of those things also because she's rayla)

callum will commit the worst crimes that would have her trying to kill basically anyone else but so long as it's her Special Little Man and he's motivated by love (which is baseline understandable to her even if she'll ruin claudia's life over the same thing) she'll let him get away with it every time and. they need to be quarantined together for the good of general society and ezran's sanity, i think

Honestly Rayla is equally 100% ride or die for Callum too.

That's so true I almost mentioned it in that post. They're so ridiculously feral for each other it's hilarious to watch. Callum's the legitimate "we ride AND die together" whereas Rayla is the "I will ride and die FOR you" sort of deal yknow?

Could be literally any situation, no matter how dangerous, and she's already decided she will die here. Does it ensure Callum lives? Then batter-up buckeroo we're going in swords blazing! Everyone cheer and clap for her human or she'll blow this whole place up. Kinda person who says "even if you hate me I'd still lose everything if it meant you were okay". She thinks they're in a tragic love story where she's always at risk of losing him but that's okay as long as it keeps him safe and happy like y'know Viren parallels, she'd risk losing her very self for him over and over. Except Callum would wait until the end of the world itself, and even beyond, and she wouldn't even have to ask.

The difference between them, really, is that Rayla will die for Callum on any given day. Callum will kill for Rayla on any given day. Something something matching sets
