Here's a MASSIVE Sonic 3 interview, featuring scriptwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller, as well as co-producer Tyson Hesse. This was recorded before the film's release so minimal spoilers.
I really suggest watching the whole thing, there's plenty of cool info about the production of these movies. I compiled some of the highlights under the cut:
- It was SEGA's request to make Movie Sonic an alien. This is a remnant from when they were commited to the "Two Worlds" idea, before they changed their mind on that.
- According to Pat Casey and Josh Miller, part of the reason that the Sony version of the movie fell apart is that they (along with Jeff Fowler, Tim Miller and Neil Moritz) wanted Sonic to be the main character, while the studio pushed for the human actor to be the star.
- There was an outline where Sonic befriended a kid (based on E.T). Tim Miller thought the character was pointless, since Sonic is already the kid, so they decided to pair him up with an adult instead.
- They refer to "The Little Mermaid", "Superman" and "Hellboy" as inspiration for Sonic's story in the first movie.
- The Master Emerald and the Chaos Emeralds were combined to avoid having eight different macguffins in one film, and also to avoid comparisons with "Avengers: Infinity War".
- Pat Casey and Josh Miller feel like part of the job is to NOT be lore experts, but rather people who can look at these things purely as a movie.
- Jim Carrey doesn't like to repeat himself, so they always try to throw new stuff at him every movie so he's more likely to return. This led them to the idea of having him play Gerald. The studio immediately loved the idea, and so did Jim.
- One of the things they knew had to change was the ARK, as the idea of a space colony orbiting Earth for 50 years without anyone noticing didn't mesh well with the grounded world they had set up.
- In some versions Gerald Robotnik was alive as a chaos energy ghost, stuck in-between time.
- They felt Shadow's backstory was extremely important, but knew they could only have so many flashbacks, hence why they wanted to pull aspects of it into the present (such as Gerald).
- Gerald's inclusion was also done to keep Shadow's story from feeling like a retread of Knuckles'. It also helps that while Knuckles' conflict is based on a misunderstanding, Shadow's isn't.
- Tyson Hesse thinks that while keeping Gerald alive at first felt weird to him as a long-time fan, it gave Ivo a lot more to chew on as a character and kept his story from getting stale.
- Jim Carrey's multiple comments regarding Robotnik's broken childhood and hidden vulnerabilities inspired them to explore that side of the character in Sonic 3.
- Pat Casey and Josh Miller's always like to add a little bit of heart where they can. They point to the baseball scene and the bucket list in the first movie, as well the scene between Agent Stone and Tails in 3.
-Jim Carrey first does his scenes exactly as scripted, then tries his own versions, which almost always end up being funnier. Very little of what's in the script actually stays.
- Keanu Reeves was the number one choice for Shadow. With every other character there was a lot of deliberation, but with Shadow they don't think other options were even considered.
- At one point Idris Elba was worried about Knuckles' fear of ghosts being out of character, so they did some research and found out it was already a thing. They can't remember if they got that character trait from somewhere or if it was coincidental.
- Sonic 3 and the Knuckles series were worked on at the same time. Pat Casey and Josh Miller weren't involved, as they were busy with the movie script. Tyson Hesse was involved during the initial stages of the show, leading the story department, but had to leave as soon as production on 3 started.
- They've kept almost the exact same creative team thorough all three movies, including their VFX Supervisor and Animation Director. This helped streamline process, as everyone is already familiar with each other and how things work.
- They point out how rare it is to have a franchise where everyone involved wants to keep coming back. They attribute this to the fact that these movies are entirely staffed by nice people who get along, which isn't too common.
- They claim that the Sonic 3 set was one of the calmest sets they've ever been in. Even all the Gerald and Ivo stuff, which seemed so complicated to make, was hardly an issue.
- With Sonic 2 they ran into some problems due to relying on a single VFX vendor. For Sonic 3 they ran the movie as if they were the VFX vendor, they had all the animators in-house and had all the character assets made internally.
- Tyson Hesse claims that SEGA was completely changed by the movies, and that everything coming out is being done better than it was before. He hopes fans will be able to appreciate how much the movies lifted up the franchise.

Reading your PA x Jamie FF has become the highlight of my day! Pls never stop posting! Can I request a FF where PA twists her ankle or sth and Jamie insists on helping her out all the time? Like carying all her stuff, carrying her up and down the stairs etc.?
At Your Service
Masterlist
Jamie Tartt x fem! PA reader
TW: cursing, flirting, physically hurt reader, suggestive language
A/N: I love love love this request. Had so many ideas I even added a bonus in the end! Hope you like it.
It happened in the stupidest way possible.
One moment, Y/N was walking down the hallway at Nelson Road, focused on the emails she was typing, and the next, her ankle rolled awkwardly on the edge of the step leading into the locker room. Stupid High Heels...
A sharp jolt of pain shot up her leg as she stumbled forward, barely managing to catch herself against the doorframe.
"Shit," she hissed under her breath, already feeling the dull throb settle in.
She turned her head and immediately regretted it.
Jamie was standing there, arms crossed, watching her with a raised eyebrow. "The fuck was that?"
"Nothing," she said quickly, standing up straight despite the pain. "I just—"
She took a step and winced.
Jamie was on her in an instant. "Oi, oi, oi—none of that," he scolded, hands hovering like he was ready to catch her at any second. "You just went down like a sack of bricks. You alright?"
"It’s fine, Jamie, really—"
He ignored her completely, kneeling down and gently wrapping his hand around her ankle, inspecting it like he was suddenly a qualified physio. "Yeah, that’s gonna be swollen as fuck in about five minutes," he declared, looking up at her with those big blue eyes of his. "You need to sit down. Now."
She sighed. "Jamie—"
Before she could protest, he stood up and—without any warning—scooped her up into his arms.
"JAMIE!" she shrieked, gripping onto his shirt.
"What?" he said, completely unfazed as he started walking. "M’helpin’ you."
"You can’t just—carry me around like this!"
"Sure I can," he said easily. "You’re my assistant, yeah? That means I gotta take care of you. Ain’t that how it works, love?"
"That is absolutely not how it works."
"Well, it is now."
She groaned, but there was no point in arguing. Jamie Tartt was nothing if not stubborn as hell when he wanted to be.
As they made it to Y/N'S office, her ankle was swelling up, and Jamie had fully committed to his self-appointed role as her personal helper.
"Right," he said, setting her down gently in her chair. "What d’you need? Water? Ice? Maybe a cuppa?"
"Jamie, I can handle it—"
"Shush," he said, pressing a finger to her lips like a dramatic idiot. "Not another word. I got this."
Before she could argue, he was off, stealing the ice pack from the physio room and shoving it against her ankle with all the gentleness of a golden retriever puppy.
"Jamie—"
"Shh, m’bein’ helpful."
He didn’t stop there. For the rest of the day, he followed her around like a shadow.
He carried all her things—even her tiny crossbody bag. He made her tea. Yup, just hot water and sugar. AGAIN. And when she needed to go upstairs for something, he flat-out refused to let her walk.
"I can walk just fine!" she insisted.
"Yeah, nah," he said, already crouching slightly. "Get on."
She blinked. "Jamie—"
"Piggyback, babe," he said with a grin. "Hop on."
She did not hop on.
She refused.
So Jamie did the only logical thing: he grabbed her by the waist and threw her over his shoulder.
"JAMIE FUCKING TARTT!"
"What?" he laughed, carrying her up the stairs like she weighed nothing. "Told ya, I ain't lettin’ you hurt yourself worse."
"I will murder you in your sleep."
"Nah, you love me too much."
She would never admit it out loud, but—maybe, just maybe—being fussed over by Jamie Tartt wasn’t the worst thing in the world.
Not that she’d tell him that.
Because if she did, she’d never hear the end of it.
By the time lunch rolled around, Y/N had resigned herself to the fact that Jamie Tartt was not going to let her do a single thing for herself.
Not. One. Thing.
Not when he had practically carried her all through the morning like she was some helpless maiden. Not when he had physically taken her laptop off her desk and plopped it onto his lap instead, typing things out for her like her own personal (and highly unqualified) secretary.
And definitely not now, when she was trying—and failing—to carry her lunch tray through the cafeteria. Barefoot. Limping.
Jamie materialized beside her, swiping the tray right out of her hands before she could argue.
"I got it," he said casually, strolling toward the nearest table like he hadn’t just stolen her food.
"Jamie, I am perfectly capable of—"
"Yeah, yeah," he interrupted, setting her tray down before pulling out a chair for her. "C’mon then, sit."
She rolled her eyes. "You know I’m not actually dying, right?"
"You might as well be," he said dramatically, waving his hands. "Dunno if you noticed, but you’ve been limpin’ all day. Looks tragic, babe. Like somethin’ outta a sad animal documentary."
She shot him a flat look. "It’s a sprained ankle, not a career-ending injury, genius."
Jamie shrugged. "Same thing, innit?"
Before she could argue, Jamie plopped down next to her and—because he was absolutely incapable of keeping his hands to himself—stole a chip right off her plate.
"Jamie!" she swatted at his arm, but he just grinned, chewing obnoxiously.
"What? You can’t fight me for it," he teased. "You’re injured."
"You’re the worst."
"Nah, I’m proper helpful, actually," he said, nudging her. "Bet you wouldn’t even be eatin’ right now if it weren’t for me."
She sighed dramatically. "You’re right, Jamie. I would have starved to death. Thank you for your noble sacrifice."
"That’s what I’m sayin’!" he said, gesturing like she had just proven his point. "Now, go on. Eat up. Need to keep your strength up."
She huffed but took a bite of her sandwich anyway, because fine, maybe he had a point.
And for a few minutes, there was silence—until she noticed Jamie watching her, chin propped in his hand, a lazy smirk playing on his lips.
She swallowed. "What?"
"Nothin’," he said, still smirking. "You’re just cute when you’re grumpy, is all."
Her face heated instantly.
"Oh, piss off," she muttered, looking away, but Jamie just laughed, absolutely thriving off her flustered reaction.
He leaned in, dropping his voice to a low, teasing drawl.
"Bet you like me takin’ care of you, don’t you, love?"
She nearly choked on her food. "What?!"
Jamie grinned. "S’okay, baby, you can admit it. You love it, yeah? Me dotin’ on ya, carryin’ ya round, bein’ all sweet and that?"
She refused to give him the satisfaction.
"You’re ridiculous," she scoffed, stabbing at her food with unnecessary aggression.
Jamie just laughed again, obnoxious and way too pleased with himself.
"Yeah, yeah," he said, stealing another chip. "But you still let me, don’t ya?"
She had no good response to that.
And Jamie knew it.
Which meant she was never living this down.
SMALL BONUS:
Y/N had been dreading this moment all day.
Because of course, with Jamie insisting on carrying her everywhere like some sort of overenthusiastic prince charming, it was only a matter of time before she had to face the most humiliating question of all.
And Jamie, being Jamie, didn’t make it any easier.
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, clearing her throat. "Uh, Jamie?"
"Hmm?" He didn’t even look up from his phone, lazily scrolling through some post-match analysis.
She hesitated, already regretting this. "I, um… I need to go to the bathroom."
Jamie immediately looked up, a slow, devious grin spreading across his face. "Ohhh," he said like this was the best news he’d ever received.
Y/N narrowed her eyes. "Don’t. Start."
"Start what?" he asked, looking utterly innocent—which was exactly how she knew he was about to start.
"Jamie," she warned.
"I mean," he continued, stretching dramatically, "since you can’t walk an’ all, guess that means I’ll have to carry you, yeah?"
Her entire body went hot. "Absolutely not."
"Aw, c’mon," he said, biting back a laugh. "I been carryin’ you everywhere else. Why stop now?"
"Because this is different!"
"How?" He leaned in, way too entertained by this. "You think I’m gonna just drop ya in the loo an’ run? Or you worried I’ll hear somethin’ I shouldn’t?"
Y/N groaned, covering her face. "Jamie, for the love of—"
"Bet you’re a shy pee-er, aren’t ya?" he said, grinning like an idiot.
She wanted to die.
"Shut up!" she hissed, glancing around in case anyone overheard.
Jamie, being the absolute menace that he was, kept going.
"Could always help, y’know," he said, mock-thoughtful. "Like, if you need me to hold you over the—"
"STOP TALKING."
He howled with laughter, doubling over like this was the funniest thing that had ever happened to him.
"You’re such a child," she muttered, covering her face.
Jamie wiped fake tears from his eyes. "Fuckin’ hell, babe, you’re killin’ me."
"Good."
Still grinning, Jamie stood up and stretched. "Right, c’mon then. Let’s get this over with."
"I hate you," she mumbled as he bent down, effortlessly scooping her up bridal style.
"Nah, you love me," he said, way too cocky.
And, okay. Maybe she did.
But she’d rather die than admit it.

good morning job seekers here are my thoughts on last night's stage/fright!! others have covered the main plot points and points of interest so this is literally ~1000 words of self-indulgent inane drivel that i wrote in my notes app at 1am (so sorry if there's misremembered lines / typos etc.), you're welcome
(will edit as i remember more stuff)
spoilers for stage/fright 22/03 evening show
le general observations
ok first up let me just say the VIBES for this show were IMPECCABLE. as many of you know this is my third watch and i feel like the energy this time was j u i c y
this time and the last time i went were both saturday evenings which i think can be good? like this audience were super engaged but not overly rowdy... it felt the right level of keen-ness that the company were responding to
all of this to say that it definitely looked to me as if the company but especially R&S were 👏 feeling 👏 themselves 👏
also means that when y'all go and see s/f be keeeeen!! they really respond to (the appropriate amount of) whooping and hollering at the right moments. i mean they literally say in the programme "you can't hear smiles" lol and we all know about reece's experiences with the 'corpses' in the producers lmao
speculation.com, i wonder if the company are feeling this but i'm definitely acutely aware that there's <2 weeks left of the run now 🥺 (where did all the time go???), which i'm trying hard not to think about because (1) sad and (2) what will i base my personality on from 6 april 2025
i’m going to cry SO HARD on the final shows
act 1
R&S got a muuuuch longer applause than i've seen previously when they come out in front of the curtain post-hamlet / a house divided scene to introduce the show. like the applause and wooping went on what felt like a solid minute. they looked happy it was cute!!
paul whitehouse was the hostage and lmaoooo did the guy milk it. the bit where they ask him what he's been in he just kept going listing stuff for aaaages
BUT it looked like R&S were having a great time here. i mean tbh reece spent most of this section with his back to the audience or adjusting his moustache bc he was lol'ing so much
an EXCELLENT fast show reference when paul has to do the spanish accent on the phone and len/eddie comes out with "SCORCHIO" iykyk
covered elsewhere but eddie knows paul from gone fisting / gone girl (and one other that i have neglected to remember)
paul whitehouse cannot play the trumpet. like at all. no sound was produced (len/eddie even says "try turning it on" and mimes switching it on haha)
len/eddie/steve's voice goes so high when he says "it's jUst a sTiCK of ceLerY" and tommy/ray/reece visibly loses it cracking up
🚨 jeremy dyson callout 🚨 as paul is leaving he said something about working with the clever/smart one jeremy dyson haha
also from the BCDR wider bit, tommy's voice crack on "you almost died len" was hearTBREAKING reece nailed it 10/10
act 2
let me open this section with HUGO my one true love this character has grown on me so much and he is honestly such a highlight. he needs his own spin-off tbh
reece was also playing hugo turned up to 11 imo
hugo/reece got a full on applause for his elements song dance number i was so happy!! last couple of times i've seen it's just got some laughs but this time people clapped for ages again to the point they had to wait for people to stop clapping before they could continue. YES BBY YOU'RE AMAZING
hugo did the leg amputation bit SO exaggeratedly this time, from the "this one sir?" to dragging the bone saw along the tray when he takes it from madam cragg
in general the p h y s i c a l i t y of reece in this production is just something else. he does it as eddie and hugo and the fucking bunny hops and exaggerated movement are just so good and make such a difference so thank you rs for the commitment to the bit
between the last time i saw s/f and this time i learned about the concept of sleeve garters (i think thanks to @vagueeyes) and now i noticed them on goudron muahah
i'd picked up from others' watches to watch marcus during the trepanning scene and yes! very worth it!! he mouthes along with the lines very nice detail
every time i've seen the musical number R&S have both looked sooo happy and again tonight. honestly petition for both of them but especially r to be in a fully fledged musical bc he smiles so much in this segment man is in his element
standing ovation 💖💖💖
stage door
right ok so first my GOD i have not seen the line this long so far?? like it literally went from the stage door around the corner onto charing cross rd and almost back to the main entrance of the theatre?? and they still came out and signed everything for everyone that was waiting 😭 true kings i'm still in awe at how they just... don't have to do this at all and yet they still do and they're so patient with everyone
i mean i said nothing of note to them bc i was on cloud 9 (hur hur) but just !!! thank you for coming out
i noticed this last time i went but absolute lols how steve is always the always the one carrying all the gift bags etc. from fans and reece is entirely unencumbered (apart from infamous CAT bag) like yas king go off
i overheard someone asking steve if there was going to be a DVD of the show and he said no 😔 but i wonder, who knows if you can trust these jokers... theres_been_a_twist.mp4
and THEN i had A Thought: imagine the concept - a filmed version of stage/fright with a commentary a la TLoG shows..... please simon evans do it for the fans
omg this is so long and i've said like nothing of note hahahaha ok well thanks for sticking with it
(oh also i'm actually writing this from the afterlife because i touched reece's hand)

Andor Arc 4 Thoughts
Tumblr media
The final arc of Andor Season 2, consisting of "Make It Stop", "Who Else Knows", and "Jedha, Kyber, Erso", is a great conclusion to the show. As the ISB closes in on Luthen, he uncovers the smoking gun that marks the beginning of the end for the Empire's Death Star. As we move ever closer towards that one road towards Scarif and Yavin, we reevaluate the entire surviving cast of Andor. This arc highlights why Fascism and any authoritarian government are always destined to fall by the ideals of freedom and rebellion.
I really love how the final arc parallels a lot with the first arc of the show. It helps bring the show full circle as we move onto Rogue One and eventually A New Hope. Star Wars Explained also did an amazing job covering this season of Andor and Star Wars in general. We need more people like SWE to bring optimism and joy into Star Wars.
"Freedom scares you." Luthen Rael
"'Freedom'? You don't want freedom. You want chaos, chaos for everyone but you. Ruin the galaxy and then run back to your ridiculous wig and little workshop." Dedra Meero
"How confident you are." Luthen Rael
"We're done here." Dedra Meero
"Confident and terrified." Luthen Rael
"The building is surrounded. You're finished." Dedra Meero
"And you're too late. The rebellion isn't here anymore. It's flown away. It's everywhere now. There's a whole galaxy out there waiting to disgust you." Luthen Rael
Tumblr media
The opening sequence also mixed in Luthen's theme, which I thought was a great touch.
Poor Lonni. He really did everything that was required, and he was tragically killed by Luthen to make sure no potential loose ends of what he told him could come to pass. I really love how much the show references Project Celestial Power as the Empire's cover up for the Death Star; it just feels rewarding for someone who read Catalyst and loves that novel a lot. I also like how Lonni brought back details and events throughout the two seasons and Rogue One, such as the PORD, the mining on Ghorman and Jedha, to really emphasize how everything ties back to the construction of the Empire's super weapon: the Death Star.
The return of the Imperial N-S9 Starpath unit is a great bookend to the show in its final arc. I really love Luthen and Dedra's conversation, with Luthen noting how Dedra still can't see that he doesn't matter anymore: the rebellion is finally ready and grown to the point where it doesn't even matter if he dies. Only Dedra can see the glory she presumes she'll get as she spits out the supposed "great" Imperial ideals that she'll discover will not protect her.
Luthen Rael really didn't see the sunrise of the New Republic. He gave his life to help form the Alliance from the shadows. It's so satisfying to see Dedra's smirk go away as she realizes she had gloated on too much and gave Luthen the time he needed to try to commit suicide. Luthen made the ultimate sacrifice by staying on Coruscant far longer than he should've. If he hadn't, he wouldn't be able to give the Alliance the first information about the Death Star's existence and the information they need to know to learn and stop the super weapon. Lonni, Luthen, Kleya, Galen Erso, Saw Gerrera, Rogue One, and the OT heroes all contributed to the destruction of the Death Star.
It'll be funny to imagine Palpatine's reaction to how many Jedi and Sith artifacts Luthen has, especially the Sith Stalker armor and the Mortis Gods relics.
It's fascinating to learn Luthen was once Imperial IAT Sergeant Lear. Given how the first IATs were veterans of the Clone Wars and the SW website confirmed Luthen and Kleya met in 18 BBY, I wonder if Luthen could've been one of the Clone Wars veterans or even an ex-CIS soldier conscripted into the Empire. If he were a Republic veteran, I really like this headcanon that non-Clone soldiers of the Republic do the morally grey stuff while Jedi and Clones do the more "honorable" and straightforward battles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kleya is an absolute badass. You know someone is that badass when the ISB assumed the attack came from a team of three.
It's really interesting to see how BTS states that Kleya has so many mixed feelings about Luthen, her father figure. She hates him for being involved in the death of her parents, and yet still loves him as the father figure she didn't have. It's this mix of emotions that leaves Kleya crying as she puts Luthen to rest for good. It's also fitting how Luthen and Kleya's first act of rebellion against the Empire was on Naboo, the Emperor's homeworld.
I'm very happy she gets to live to see the fruits of her contributions to the growth of the Rebel Alliance. I really need to see her and Leia interact in the New Republic Era. I also like how Vel comforted her and to help her feel at home among the Alliance.
Also, I really love how the hospital is named after Lina Soh, the Chancellor of the Republic during Phases 1 and 3 of the HR publishing initiative. I'm really happy Andor gave the HR Era a nod.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dedra finally ends up in the same position as Syril Karn in Season 1. She disobeyed her superior and kept sensitive information to herself, then rushed in to claim the glory, only to find herself reprimanded. Krennic is actually a bit scary, and it really shows how he can be terrifying; he can be without higher-ranked Imperials throwing their weight around him. The fact that his finger on Dedra's head was imprisoned was just amazing acting. It is funny that this all happened because Krennic's staff emailed the files to the wrong person. Truly a representation of how bloated and complacent the Empire has become.
It's perfect karma that she ends up in the same type of Imperial prison since Partagaz once celebrated her for her high arrest records. There is no way out for her, unlike Cassian, Melshi, and the prisoners of Narkina V. After all the trauma, horrors, and genocide she committed on everyone throughout the show, this was a very cathartic punishment and end for her.
It just goes to show how Fascism isn't about climbing up to the top since that never existed. The only person of authoritarianism and Fascism at the top is the dictator, aka the Emperor; everyone else is expendable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The amount of parallels to the first arc is great to see: flashbacks of a parent and child, the villains in police gear hunting down a target, the villains rushing without properly planning things, the villains getting absolutely destroyed, and Past/Present track playing at the end (or in this case, Past/Present/Future).
I like how Cassian is getting along with K2 and Melshi. It really makes you understand why Melshi is one of the rebels who will go with Cassian and the other rebels on the suicide mission to Scarif.
K2 is such a great sight after all the show's dark moments. It's nice to have a comedic presence. It feels absolutely cathartic to see the Imperials get a taste of their own medicine as K2 goes full Terminator on them. Heert getting killed by his own men was just perfection.
There's something incredibly hilarious about how much the Empire messed up in this arc. Partagaz's own search warrant (which was a call-back to how he described the ISB's mission), backfiring on the redeployment of ISB tactical forces, and those same ISB forces ignored the U-Wing. I also like how it connects to Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire (Highly recommend for anyone who is a fan of Andor and Star Wars history) with how the book mentions the ISB being punished for letting the Death Star be destroyed. Now we get to see the specifics of why they would be punished.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sight of Yavin IV in full operational status and the main rebel base is extremely satisfying. After the entire season of build-up, we now see the Rebel Alliance operating at its true potential. I also love seeing Pao in this arc; we need to see more Pao in general. Wilmon having a limp leg means he’ll be far from the action and it’s nice to see him finally relax with the rebels and Dreena after all the trauma he went through.
I do like how the final conversation between Mothma and Saw feels like a sequel to their conversation in Rebels, except this time, Saw has fewer good points to bring up and is just straight up unhinged. It really showcases how stubborn and insane Saw has become, that all he does is complain about threats that simply don't exist from the Alliance.
The lore consistency side of me is annoyed about Draven's comment about the ISB Dauntless hovering over Jedha was over two days ago. As someone who read the Guardian of the Whills novel (a pretty noice novel about Chirrut and Baze before Rogue One), it was pretty clear the Dauntless was hovering over the city for quite a while. The hc I can try to image to reconcile this is either a silly image of the Dauntless temporarily leaving for some space tacos or Draven's intelligence being a bit faulty; either of which doesn't really help fix it. It's a rare continuity error.
As someone who read the Aftermath Trilogy, it's always funny yet also frustrating to see Newer Jebel in these scenes. Despite his asshole and head in the sand management style, he does stick around through the entire Galactic Civil War.
Cassian brings up a great point about no matter what Luthen is and how much of a hard person to work with, hell, even untrustworthy; if something bothers Luthen of all people, it shouldn't be lightly ignored.
I always love how Raddus immediately wants to know more about the report when he hears about an Imperial weapon. I am surprised to see Bail being a lot aggressive in this scenario. Though I can understand, given how he's risking a lot for the Alliance he and Mothma helped build since the fall of the Republic, and especially since he has to keep his world and daughter safe. His characterization also connects to the Mask of Fear novel, where he and Mothma didn't get along at first during the first few months of the Empire's reign.
Mon and Vel are at home with the Alliance and it’s great to see after they spent so much time trying to hide their rebel connection in plain sight of the Empire. It’s also great to see Vel and Cassian toast to all their fallen friends, family, and even ethnic groups who are all victims of the Empire. It’s also nice to see how Vel got the assurance of Cassian’s claims by simply asking rather than spy. Communication is key!
"Did you know him? Any of you? Does anyone in this room besides Senator Mothma have any idea how much you owe him? Cassian Andor
"Oh, please." Nower Jebel
When I say I know Luthen...I mean I know the good and the bad. I know what was wrong with him. I had a front-row seat on that, and I made my choice two years ago, to join here and be part of this. But none of that can take away what he did and how hard it was. I don't know if what he was told is true or not. But it's insulting to hear him run down by people who have given a fraction of his sacrifice to this Rebellion!" Cassian Andor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another Rise and Fall connection is how Cassian gave Nemik's manifesto to the Alliance, and we can see the manifesto is spreading across the galaxy, even Partagaz listens to it.
Partagaz finally realizes that stopping the "disease of rebellion" is impossible. It all ties back to his very first scene, where he discusses the ISB's job was to "cure" the idea of freedom. With that realization, his upcoming arrest and most likely execution, and realizing he wasted his life in the pursuit of an impossible task, he took the easy and quick way out of that execution and committed suicide. I love how his final scenes before his suicide are a parallel to his first appearance, but now in an empty room, as he has no power and status left.
It's also fitting that Partagaz, one of the most competent ISB agents, is blamed and replaced by Lagret, one of the least competent ISB agents, who is also the last named ISB agent of the show.
Everything about this arc regarding how the Empire failed to contain the Death Star leak really is an analogy of why the Empire and its successor groups, the Imperial Remnants and the First Order, fell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cassian's slow walk to his U-Wing for his fateful mission to the Ring of Kafrene is so awesome. It's really great to see the Andor and R1 cast in a montage as Past/Present/Future plays. Hearing Andor's theme, the Andor Rebellion's theme, and Bix's Message (a variant of Andor’s theme) in one track is musically fitting.
Bix leaving the rebellion to also take care of her and Cassian's child is fitting. She made a choice not only for both of them, but also to protect their baby. I still have mixed feelings about the events leading up to her departure in the third arc, but I approve of the idea and what they did. They didn't fridge her character, which is important. It's also wholesome to see B2EMO be happy and playing with another droid.
Going directly to Rogue One and A New Hope makes a perfect finale to the story that started in Andor. The road to Scarif and Yavin IV is clear. All the sacrifices made gave one farm boy the chance to destroy the Empire's planet killer and ignite the spark of hope across the galaxy.
Catalyst, Rebel Rising, Andor, Guardians of the Whills, and Rebels Saw’s episodes (and the show as a whole regarding how the Alliance formed and why they didn't engage with the Empire until Scarif) really provide the great build-up and context to Rogue One.
To cement that fact, in the end credits, they played the Star Wars main theme and the classic closing music (The Throne Room and End Title) at the end of A New Hope. The music in this arc and the reuse of William's music perfectly cements the transition from the more electronic soundscape of S1 to the orchestral soundscape of Rogue One and the Star Wars movies. This is my favorite moment of the final arc.
I'm going to miss Andor. This season is really good, however, there were some writing choices I wish we could've expanded and added. I really wish we got proper closure to the story of Kenari and Cassian's sister Kerri. However, this season has a lot more high highs than Season 1, so I would say this season is my personal favorite of the two seasons of Andor. Star Wars Rebels is still my favorite Star Wars show, but Andor is definitely my second favorite Star Wars show. A friend has a great analogy to best describe the story of how the Rebel Alliance formed: if the Alliance is a house, Andor is the foundation, while the actual concrete is Star Wars Rebels. Star Wars Rebels tells the tale of the main foundations and stories of the Rebel Alliance, with how the rebellion grew and changed, and Andor covers the more gritty side of the foundation, particularly during the early years of the Rebel Alliance before Rebels.
Goodbye Andor, thank you for being the light in the darkness that is 2025's world politics. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
"If I die fighting the Empire...I want to go down swinging. You find that amusing?" Bail Organa
"No, but...You and Luthen would have gotten along much better than you think." Cassian Andor
"May the Force be with you, Captain." Bail Organa

hiiii! just curious because i love your thoughts, do you have any thing or things you’d like to see for each member of the gang this season?
Ooo yes thank you for the question!!
I think in some sense my “wants” are kinda warped by what we already know we’re getting, but also what we already know we’re getting are things I definitely was already hoping for, if that makes sense…
For Frank, I really loved how Inflates highlighted that businessman position of power/knowledge he has over the rest of the Gang, so I am really hoping we see a continuation of that this season (and Thought Leadership seems to be ticking that box) where he’s still clearly in a financial position of power over the Gang (and uses it against Dennis and Dee very clearly), and we see more into his fictitious businesses, shell companies, and real companies that are making money under Paddy’s front (Franks Fluids LLC return to me pleaseeee). I also want to see more CharFrank codependency / screwy relationship, which hand to hand into what I want for Charlie this season..
For Charlie, I want to see more of his confusion/exploration of who he is to Frank and maybe an attempt at growing beyond that toward independence… that’s actually impossible to get past and a good Charlie break down/freak out (looking at that trailer, it’s coming)… and along the lines of family, given Lynne’s passing right after they filmed (which obviously no one could have planned for) I really hope we get a good moment with Bonnie and Charlie. And I also hope Uncle Jack is murdered. Ok we can save that for 18 fine. We get them every season so it’s kinda a given but something I always want is just close-to-cartoon goofy, insane moments between Charlie and every member of the Gang.. also like, maybe hopefully, little inklings of his progress at Abbott Elementary coming through all season (him trying and actually succeeding to read small things)
For Dee, again something that’s been hinted at is giving her a good emotional episode, and I think that’s probably going to be Frank is in a Coma, which honestly I think is gonna be more "over exaggerated" gauntlet of emotions (which I’m sure will be a great testament to Kaitlin’s acting) as opposed to a MFHP/Corpse moment for Dee, so I am hoping we get something a little more in that direction in addition to a jokey-kinda thing. And more of Dee being above Dennis/seemingly "more adjusted" than he is when it comes to their shared reactions to, well, whatever is happening with Tammy's return but also their general plots together. I wanna see Dee stomping down on Dennis this season, please
For Dennis, then, well.. the opposite, in a way. I loved his characterisation in Season 16 and DTAMHD, of course, where he's clearly constantly attempting to regulate his bubbling anger. So more of him trying to attempt to do that and it's just.. not working given the situations he keeps having to face. I want to see manic pathetic Dennis again.. which I think we will be getting at least a taste of. And I want him to face erectile dysfunction sooo bad.. soo so so bad. Please. Weird sex stuff with Dennis is a given and I think we are on track for it to be very pathetic (in the good way). Also Dennis having a good time with Charlie and Mac in between it all.. just classic dumb fun for them is a dream
For Mac uhhh can I get a fucking hookup. STOP EVADING THAT ROB. Let a guy manhandle you on screen PLEASE. But really, be gay, commit crimes, pretend to be a badass while actually just looking and genuinely being dumb, all with those big doe eyes in play is all I need from Mac. Honestly I have anti-hopes for Mac. I hope he does not take too much charge this season/isn't a leader in the schemes.. Lap dog that acts as an attack/guard dog on command, please.

can you write a sub Jeff the killer like at first he’s all dom and stuff but then we lowkey overpower him and break down his whole dominant character and turn him submissive?🙏🙏🙏♥️
¡Sub! Jeff The Killer x ¡Dom! Male Reader
I LOVED writing this, the more specific the message the more my ideas open up. I really didn't know if you meant an Fem or an Male since part of me was saying "I want to ride that bitch." and another part was saying "I want to open that bitch's legs." and finally I decided to take him as an Male reader to make him more submissive than with an Fem reader haha.
¡WARNING! : Smut,Mention of murder, Alcoholism, Knife game, Skin cuts,Boy x Boy,Mutual masturbation,Explicit content, Homosexual.
¡English is not my first language! So it's possible that the writing sucks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was Christmas, you didn't celebrate Christmas and it wasn't like you cared what happened that day, since to you it was like just another day.
Even so, the holidays were perfect targets to murder entire families, an opportunity that Jeff did not waste.
After 1 in the morning the man arrived covered in blood and with his hands busy with two bags of beer that he left next to the living room sofa where he was sitting.
- "Hard work?" - you asked without taking your eyes off the television that was broadcasting the news of the recent murders committed by your partner. He only grunted in response as he discarded his stained sweatshirt to the floor, leaving him in a thin tank top and his black jeans that were still stained with blood. He plopped down on the couch next to you as he grabbed two bottles of alcohol. to open them and extend one to you, which you accepted.
Tumblr media
After many drinks and some unconscious flirtations thanks to drunkenness, they ended up running up the stairs to his room between hungry kisses, clumsily opening the door out of desperation, Jeff squeezed your waist with his pale hands while his tongue explored your oral cavity and you responded to his touch by resting your hands on the sides of his shoulders and trying to keep up with his kisses.
When you got to the bed, he let you fall on top of the sheets while you smiled flirtatiously, holding your forearms to see how Jeff removed his tank top to reveal his thin and pale frame.
You, on your part, did the same, you unbuttoned the buttons of the shirt you were wearing and got rid of your belt to lower your pants until you finally took them off along with your shoes.
Jeffrey just licked his trimmed lips at the sight of you half naked, without asking permission he jumped on you to kiss your neck. You hummed low in your throat while the tips of your fingers caressed the ribs that stood out in your boyfriend's thin skin, causing him to shiver.
Lowering his hips a little, he rubbed his clothed erection against your bulge in your boxers, making you both sigh. You lowered your hands from his sides to his lower back, where you lightly squeezed his hips just as he had done minutes before.
- "Don't play with me like that." -I was serious when I noticed your intentions, you just smiled calmly, raising your shoulders a little to massage his belly with your thumbs - "I'm not playing..." -.
The took off his remaining clothes and settled on top of you. You agilely took his arms and turned him around so that he was under your body, while you imprisoned his arms against the mattress.
- "Don't play with me." - You ordered, wanting to highlight your authority. Jeff opened his eyes in surprise but then relaxed his frown while a small blush ran across his sensitive skin and the color rose in his face.
You lovingly kissed every part of his body, sometimes leaving small hickeys in sensitive areas where you knew they would drive him crazy in a short time.
- "Come on…I don't have your time." - The blue-eyed one growled. - "You mean you don't have my patience, because there is plenty of time" -.
You let out a small laugh to get to the point and settle between the murderer's legs, lowering your boxers slightly so that your member would jump out.
They began with mutual masturbation which in a matter of minutes caused the room to be filled with obscene noises from both of them until they reached climax. Then you began to prepare Jeff so as not to suffer consequences later, when they managed to enter his narrow entrance they could only grunt, him for the intrusion into their privacy and you for how tight it was.
- "G-God a-ah" - the one with cut cheeks complained slightly at the overwhelming sensation. - "Relax… you're choking me down there." -.
They continued at a slow pace until the youngest got used to the size until they became wilder, enjoying the ecstasy of the moment.
- "¡More! ¡More! ¡More!" - You followed your partner's wishes until your eyes rested for a moment on the nightstand where Jeff's knife was found. You just smiled and took it to pass the cold, thin, sharp blade across your boyfriend's chest to delicately cross out a heart with the cuts you caused, something that only excited them more.
You rested the blade against Jeffrey's neck, without wanting to cut him but close enough to feel the cold of the steel, your thrusts were increasingly erratic while you felt that you were close to your second orgasm just like Jeff.
Releasing a loud gasp you came out from inside his hole to let out the strings of semen on his stomach and belly just as he did with his own.
You let your head fall into the side of Jeffrey's neck as he breathed heavily. He just caressed your hair and then grabbed it tightly to lift your face and kiss it roughly.
- "I'm still not satisfied." -.
God, this would be a long night.

As part of my current quest to get out of my recent "hobby" nadir of low motivation, I am watching The Animes more - one prong of multiple I assure you, isn't a full weeb project. That includes the seasonals, so I watched the first two episodes of Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Directed by Tsurumaki, of FLCL fame! With Anno advising and Yoji Enokido doing the scripts! With character designs by take of Pokemon legend! I was definitely optimistic for this one.
But man, were those first two episodes rough for someone who isn't particularly a Gundam fan...
The first episode was "fine" - the character designs are, of course, amazing, take doesn't miss:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of my "language of anime" moments, where like from the outside "hey let's make the characters 20% blobbier and also add highlights to their eyes that match their hair tones" is such a minor change, but once you are someone who follows ~2000 anime artists seeing designs that stand out in these little ways from anything else around is super cool (at least when they first debuted in Pokemon and spawned imitators, ofc). Having characters with the level of pop in their color pallete as Machu, or the sallow, dark-toned frigidness of Nyaan, in what is technically a war mecha show, feels like a fresh identity. I really liked the rooftop scene for their initial meeting (loved Machu tripping mid-speech, moe-cute moment), and these two are like walking opposed emojis, that too is yuri:
Tumblr media
But everything else! That is a lot of jargon to throw at someone for a first episode? And it isn't meant to be technobabble I can just ignore, it is the plot. They obviously expect me to have seen the original Gundam, but that is a show from the 70's, lots of people haven't! You can do this more gracefully. And meanwhile, as runtime is eaten up by loredumps, Machu's character is just forced to become a fucking lunatic and instantly jump into a mecha to Fight The Police for ~reasons? I am sure we will learn reasons, but in the moment I was watching her bumbling from generic mobile suit to discovering the Special Gundam and all suspension of disbelief was blown - "yeah okay they need to get her into the famous mecha, I get it, you can skip this part". It was just very awkward.
Obviously none of this is helped by the fact that modern gundam has just committed to the idea of their mecha being fully-3D objects that pristinely bounce around space with no sense of momentum, feeling, or visual drama to them, so all the fight scenes are pretty bland.
Still, okay, rough first episode, but that happens - maybe episode 2 will flesh out the two main characters a bit now that the premise is out of the way?
Well that is a little hard to do when they do not appear on-screen because episode 2 is a fucking flashback alt history remake of the original gundam show!! It is just Char Anzable being his gay war criminal self for ~20 minutes. I had no clue what was happening, I authentically thought I was watching the wrong show.
Tumblr media
They didn't even let us see if his eyes have a Pokemon Trainer hue shift, the complete cowards.
I am obviously not gonna hate too hard on the Huge Otaku at Khara being huge otaku about this and expecting you to have seen the original Gundam - but this is something you do in like episode 8. I did not need to know any of this alt history stuff yet, and I certainly don't care. I don't even remember the main character's names yet! I had to google them for this!
In any other context that level of one-two punch would make me drop this show, but in the end this is Tsurumaki, this is Khara, every anime junkie I know is talking about it - I probably will give it at least ~2 more episodes. I do respect that the fundamentals of character, animation, and directing are there. If they stop being fucking dorks for five seconds this show could be good, so I am hoping they do that.

Jurassic World: Rebirth - My Thoughts
Tumblr media
So, finally got to go see Rebirth on Wednesday after spending months getting myself more and more hyped for what was coming! Jurassic's always been a franchise dear to my heart, as one of the big things that got me into both dinosaurs and writing in general, and even though some of their more recent output (Dominion & Camp Cretaceous' final two seasons), every instalment has had at least something that stuck with me and kept me going back.
I'll start off with just general non-spoilery thoughts and then dive into spoiler territory under a post cut, so without further ado...
Tumblr media
For general thoughts, I loved this movie! I definitely needed some big-screen dinosaurs in my life again and Rebirth delivered that in spades, with each dinosaur looking absolutely stunning and able to show off what they're all about. Getting to see Spinosaurus again on the big screen was a particular joy. It was nice to see them brought to the forefront of the plot again after Dominion pivoted toward a locust conspiracy.
I thought the characters were generally fine, they did enough to get me to like them and want them to make it through. One exception though, but that's for the spoiler part. Dr. Henry Loomis was the highlight for me, but across the board I felt the cast all did great.
Overall, the movie was a great time and something I think every Jurassic fan should at least give it a shot. It's third in my personal ranking of the movies (behind Fallen Kingdom and the original), a generally solid movie that I wish personally did a little more, but nothing too bad.
And now for spoilers...
Tumblr media
Getting into spoiler territory, my main issue with the movie is Martin Krebs. Even with Dominion's human villains on the roster, Krebs is easily the franchise's weakest human antagonist. He feels like the writers didn't actually know what they wanted Krebs to be, so they have him be generally okay and then put him into a situation that forces him to "do an evil" (to put it one way) so that he can be the film's villain. Even his heel turn moment when everyone reunites at the worker village felt half-baked. If they wanted Krebs to be the villain, they needed to commit to making him such.
Outside of that, generally my other gripes are mostly nitpicks, or stuff the film didn't do that I wish it did. I was expecting the Spinosaurus group to properly chase the team onto the beach when the Mosasaurus couldn't follow them any longer, and while there was one chilling on the shore that bagged a kill, I wanted to see how they were properly on land.
The Velociraptors too...now, I wasn't expecting them to have huge roles, especially once the Mutadons were revealed in trailer 2, but I definitely expected more than just a background shot while some guy nips for a piss. It felt like a bit of an insult to an animal that's been a franchise staple since the beginning, especially with the T.rex getting a really cool river raft sequence in comparison.
For more positive spoiler talk, getting to see the Dunkleosteus for a few seconds was awesome and makes me really excited for the sorts of creatures we could see in future entries. The other funky lil animals we got to see throughout were cool too. More Paleozoic and Cenozoic animals, please!
The kills we got were pretty cool too. My favourites would have to be the fifth Spinosaurus ambushing that girl from the beach, the Quetzalcoatlus' kill and watching its neck bulge while swallowing that guy was creepy, and the Distortus' helicopter kill was pretty cool too.
Tumblr media
As for the mutants, they were alright. I'll always maintain that the Indominus rex is my least favourite hybrid species in Jurassic, and I'm glad that the Distortus rex and Mutadon fall more in line with Camp Cretaceous' Scorpius rex, being freaky-looking dino monsters. Was pleasantly surprised that the D.rex lived, and I look forward to maybe seeing it again.
Overall though, again, I had a good time with Rebirth despite wanting a bit more from it, and I look forward to seeing what Jurassic has in store next.

So, like. Eclipse x Roxanne (I say, for the 5 millionth time)
After Eclipse admitting that he feels some way for Roxanne, but isn’t sure what exactly it is, I can see things progressing one of two ways:
Eclipse DOES have romantic feelings for Roxy, and their relationship proceeds from there
Eclipse realizes his feelings aren’t romantic. Roxy is special to him in a different way, they end up in a qpr or a nontraditional relationship.
I’m chill with both options. My thing about Eclipse and Roxy is that I just enjoy them, in whatever way. I’ve written a few different interpretations of their relationship to explore the dynamics in different ways. With all the different opinions I’ve been seeing on their relationship, I just wanted to throw mine into the mix and highlight why I like each dynamic.
As Friends
I’ll start by saying that this is canon. They are friends. It’s just whether or not their relationship will change that’s up in the air.
I like Roxy and Eclipse as friends for all the reasons we’ve seen in canon. She’s offered him support in his vulnerable moments, she pushes him out of his comfort zone sometimes, she gets on him when he’s being an asshole, and their dynamic raising the kids together is really interesting. Her explicitly explaining to Charlie that she doesn’t need to be romantically involved with Eclipse or be the kid’s mom to have a relationship with them was great. If they stayed friends, I would gladly look forward to more of this dynamic.
From a writing standpoint, I can see why their relationship might become something else, though. Eclipse has already experienced growth through his friendship with Terra, who is still his bestie and comes to visit him. He also grew with Ballora, even though they’re not as close now after everything with Puppet and the mimic. Puppet was also a close, fem-presenting friend, though their relationship was a bit more up and down than the other two.
So I could see why, from a writing standpoint, it would be interesting to explore a different kind of relationship for Eclipse. He’s had a couple close female friends already.
I’ve also seen some people saying that they like their friendship and don’t want to see it changed. I agree with this. If their relationship develops further, I want them to keep the dynamics of their friendship, to stay best friends first, with other dynamics added on. This would also be a different start from other canon relationships like Monty and Terra, where Monty was attracted to Earth and pursuing her romantically from the start.
Something Else
There’s a few ways this could go. They could be in a QPR, where maybe they feel platonically for each other but still like the idea of being committed to one another, being partners, living together and raising the kids together. And they admit that they are special to one another in a way their other friends are not.
This would be cool because I feel like we have “either friends or lovers with no in between” a lot in the shows. It’d be cool to see a different, nontraditional dynamic explored through these two.
Alternatively, I could see their relationship being kind of a nebulous thing that they don’t really put much thought into. Maybe they do some things romantic couples traditionally do, but not others. Maybe they feel things for each other, but can’t figure out what. Maybe it depends on the mood. I like the thought of them being just as confused by their relationship as everyone looking in from the outside, but not concerned with labeling it. They just sort of carry on in whatever way feels right and don’t bother defining it.
Romantic
I LOVE this interpretation in fanon, and have a lot of fun writing and drawing it myself. As a multishipper, I really like imagining how different characters would fit together, and like the dynamics of these two a lot. Here’s some stuff I like.
Those are Eclipse’s kids first and foremost, but now Roxy also has a sort of parental relationship with them, and it gives the vibe of a blended family. I DO like single dad Eclipse, but if you want to look at things from a writing standpoint, Sun is also currently a single father. Moon is playing the uncle role and also stepping up with Molten. Charlie is (was) biologically related to Henry. Solar and Nebula are together, but Nebula isn’t heavily involved in parenting Jack. I think Eclipse and Roxy being a blended family with their kids would be a fun new canon dynamic.
Additionally, as mentioned above, I like them being friends first and having that solid foundation, then keeping that friendship as their relationship develops. I know 5ish months of knowing each other isn’t a super long time irl, but the shows upload an episode every day. If you look at how many episodes their relationship has spanned and think about how a relationship might develop episode by episode or chapter by chapter in other forms of media, I think the development makes a bit more sense. I think, compared to some other canon relationships, they actually have been friends for a pretty long time.
Finally, with Eclipse having mentioned that he isn’t opposed to the idea of a relationship, he’s just never had time to think about it, I think him actually having the chance to figure this out is a good way to show him growing and changing. He’s finally able to think about whether he likes someone or not. Roxy is enough of a constant in his life that he can consider it, he’s not running for his life or fighting to save anyone, he’s not actively under threat, and he’s forged a close enough relationship with her that it’s something he can think of at all. She also has been actively encouraging him to take breaks and think about himself, and showing she cares about him. Those are all huge for him. Even though him thinking about being in a relationship is new, it’s something I’d like to see explored more if done right, and I think Roxy makes the most sense canonically to do that with.
Honestly, my biggest gripe with Eclipse and Roxy atm is just… Roxy. And that’s not even to say I don’t like her. I enjoy her personality. I like that she’s sassy and outgoing and keeps things cool, but is also down for some mischief every once in a while. I like that she cares about everyone, I like that her manner of speaking is different from Flora’s other EAPS characters, I like her style and her being a bit edgy and alternative. The biggest area for improvement with her, in my opinion, is just DEPTH.
Most considerations for their relationship revolve around Eclipse. I know he’s more of a fan favorite and he’s been around longer, so that makes sense. But also, up until recently, we didn’t know much about Roxy. We knew she was abandoned and reactivated without her eyes, and that was it. And part of that was definitely the situation with Matt leaving and the show needing a new character. But I still didn’t really like Roxy existing mostly for Eclipse’s development and getting none of her own.
Now, though, after the recent episode where she told him about Chica, it seems more like she was purposely withholding some things. I think of the time they went out to eat with Charlie for valentines day and she didn’t mention Chica at all when asked what she used to do. And I think of her saying she’s really happy to be around people that care after being abandoned, and how quickly she attached herself to Eclipse, who rescued and repaired her, and how she tends to be right beside him, always. I think about how even in the beginning, she would ask “What do WE do?” She was down to help in whatever way she could, she included herself in problem solving without question. Honestly, I think about how with Ruin’s Monty, she was like “We gotta kill this guy.” She’s the only female character aside from like Clipsy that I could see taking that stance. That’s interesting to me.
I wanna see more depth from her. I want to learn more about her past, and what she’s afraid of (I HC the dark!), and how she’s been hurt, and see her be vulnerable. And the cool thing is that, just like she brings out that side of Eclipse, he’s starting to bring out that side of her. So, if that trend continues, and if Roxy gets her own character arcs, and they both get to be their own people while also being with each other, and they keep the strong base friendship as their relationship develops? Yeah, I’d be down to see them together romantically.
All in all, it’s just gonna depend on how everything is handled. To sum all that up, I’ll be happy with whatever, because each option is interesting for its own reasons. However things turn out, I’m excited!

hello!!!!! you’ve mentioned previously that you have some opinions on bakugo mitsuki as a mother, and im super curious about them 👁️👁️
Hihi!!! Basically, I’m one of those people that really dislikes Mitsuki. Ultimately , my opinion is that the fandom can be really weird in their mindset about her because she is a toxic/bad mother, and I think that’s true regardless of how much someone might like her.
(This is really long because I yap about a couple different things, sorry!)
Mitsuki falls victim to an issue that I have with Horikoshi as an author; he has a really bad problem with tone and trying to merge his comedic aspects with his more serious ones. The best example I have is Hagakure, a character that solely exists because he thought it was funny to have a female character with the ‘needs to be naked to be invisible’ trope— something that destroyed her ability to be an ACTUAL character and caused her to be so overlooked that she accidentally makes more sense as the traitor than Aoyama, the one that was known to be traitor since day one.
It’s absolutely fine to have darker themes in a silly show, have a kids’ show become darker, or have two juxtaposing tones to highlight how serious things are getting. Spy x family is a show that does this incredibly well, imo, even with some of the pacing issues I have with it. With mha, however, Horikoshi will just randomly add things and commit to them just because he’s thinks it’s a funny bit and it ultimately ruins a lot of things about his work.
Bakugou Katsuki is one of them. As much as I love him, his character is fundamentally flawed because his author’s intentions with him and what the audience would interpret from him are so vastly different. The reason for this is because there are two major aspects of his character that are big deals but Horikoshi refuses to actually handle it as if it is because, to him, they’re jokes or something that’s not meant to be taken too seriously (based on the way he addresses them). The Sports Festival ending was absolutely horrifying if you think about it for more than two seconds— there is absolutely no way it is ever NOT abusive to muzzle and chain up a fifteen year old boy on NATIONAL television (possibly international because Aizawa says this festival replaces the Olympics). This is especially true when that same student had previously been attacked by a villain that GAGGED and RESTRAINED him (the sludge villain at the beginning of the show).
This is something that would traumatize him. I don’t care if he “deserved it” (he didn’t), this was humiliating and abusive and if UA wasn’t a sociopolitical superpower alongside the hero commission, the repercussions of this would’ve been devastating. But it’s never addressed because Horikoshi did it as a joke. This moment is meant to be funny and you’re supposed to laugh at how out of control Bakugou is. Despite the fact that this display is what leads the MAIN ANTAGONISTS to feel sorry for him and offer him a place with them because they believe he’s being abused by hero society. And I could hear the argument that this was all intentional and the league kidnapping him was meant to show how bad the end of the festival was, but I’d argue that nothing ever happens to cement that idea (in the anime, at least! I know that lots of stuff gets cut from the manga so it might not be wholly Horikoshi’s fault if there is manga or side content that goes against any of this). No one ever apologizes to Bakugou for it. Bakugou never talks to a friend about how these events were connected. It’s never addressed and, with how the villains and hero society are consistently treated throughout the series, I find it hard to believe that this was the actual intention here.
All this to say that his relationship with his mother is the exact same.
Mitsuki treats him the way she does because Horikoshi thinks it’s funny. She’s meant to be a parody of the strict/harsh mother that a lot of Asian households have— but the problem with this is that a lot of Asian mothers are abusive. In fact, the “harsh” way a lot of parents are across different cultures is all abusive, but it’s often justified with “well, that’s just how parents are here” but I don’t think that’s a good excuse.
It’s important to note that her being abusive makes her a bad mother, but I don’t think she doesn’t love her son or that she’s inherently a bad person. People often jump to this defense when you say she’s abusive, which is part of the strange mindset I spoke of earlier. It’s really dangerous, imo, to imply that an abusive person can’t love their victim and I don’t like that perspective, even with domestic abuse. These things have nuance and it’s not an all or nothing thing like people online like to pretend it is. Treating someone badly doesn’t automatically mean there’s no way you could ever love them or care for them, it just means that you treated them badly. Their love doesn’t justify their abuse, nor does it make it any less bad or traumatizing and saying that it’s okay because Mitsuki loves him has that implication.
In the same way I can say that someone is saying/doing something homophobic and not mean that they are a homophobe that hates gay people and wants to take our rights away, Mitsuki is abusive, but I don’t mean she’s a ruthless child abuser that feels no love or remorse. I’ll say that again: when I say she’s abusive, I don’t mean she’s incapable of love, but her loving her son does not change the fact that she treats him poorly and that she, and any mother she’s meant to parody, are bad mothers because this isn’t a healthy way to raise a child.
And I say that as someone who has a mother like her! Mitsuki as a fandom topic is really triggering for me and I tend to avoid positive posts about her because so many people like to justify her behavior, which in turn feels like they’re justifying my mother’s behavior. To add context as well, I’m white but my mother’s side of the family is all Japanese, with my great-grandmother being the one to immigrate to America. I don’t say this to compare my experiences with people who are actually Asian or Asian-American with mothers like Mitsuki (because I’m like 1/8th Japanese at this point so I’m in no way apart of this group 😭😭), but a lot of these behaviors are caused by generational trauma and I know my mother acted the way she did because of her mother, and because of her mother, and so on. Basically, this topic is kind of personal to me, even if I’m not in the exact position to be able to speak on it from a cultural standpoint.
To circle back, though, I don’t believe it’s accurate to say my mother doesn’t love me, even though she was abusive to me. I don’t think it’s accurate to say my grandmother didn’t love my mother, even though she was abusive towards her. Parents are far more complicated than that and it feels really gross to justify objectively bad actions by saying “well, she can’t be abusive because she means well and loves her son!”
Arguably, Endeavor loves his kids, as shown in his atonement arc (though, I don’t love how that one is written either)— that doesn’t make things any better, though, does it?
Mitsuki hits Katsuki. That is an objective fact because I have the scene pulled up right now and I’m watching it happen. Another objective fact is that it’s never okay to hit your kids. It’s not okay to spank them. It’s not okay to whoop them. Psychologically, this does more damage than good and Katsuki is actually such a good representation as to why. When you hit a kid for being bad or too much, they learn that when someone is “bad” then they deserve to be hurt, which leads them down two roads— either THEY become physical against other people when other people do something wrong (like the way Katsuki uses his quirk against Izuku— because, yes, Katsuki was abusive towards Izuku too. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad person now. He was a child and this was a learned behavior from his mother/his environment but that doesn’t suddenly justify it or make it better), or it means that they continue to allow other people, such as romantic partners, to hurt them as they get older because they feel like that’s the acceptable punishment.
I don’t care that he’s a teenager. I don’t care that she does it to reel him in. If it’s not okay to smack another adult because of their attitude problems, it’s not okay to do it to a child.
And the way she speaks to him is incredibly damaging. I don’t have access to the manga panels rn so this is based on the anime (dub with the translated subtitles) so maybe the manga handles it slightly better— but when Aizawa goes to ask for permission to let Katsuki stay at the dorms, Mitsuki smacks him COMPLETELY UNPROVOKED and when he snaps back at her with aggression telling her not to hit him, she responds with ANOTHER smack and says, “Oh, shut up! It’s your fault to begin with for being so weak. You got caught, and now you’re causing everyone trouble!” (subs)/“Oh hush! If you hadn’t been so damn weak, you never would’ve gotten caught and caused all that trouble!” (dub line)
Her son was just kidnapped.
Kidnapped by people that, at this point, have cemented themselves as incredibly dangerous individuals. The nomus are publicly known and publicly associated with the league because of the attack in Hosu City. He was kidnapped by people so dangerous that ALL MIGHT had to retire after he fought them— on NATIONAL TELEVISION. Katsuki could have died. Katsuki was traumatized. And this is how she treats him in front of PRO HEROES.
Following this, she hits him AGAIN and goes on about how Katsuki is good at everything because of his quirk, but that he was always being praised for shallow stuff and she says that it’s likely why he ended up like this. For starters, this obviously upsets him a bit. Humbling him isn’t a bad thing, but there’s a time and place for it and it’s very obvious that this line of thinking is how we end up with him having his fight against Izuku. He’s incredibly insecure despite his pride and if everyone was praising him for shallow stuff, what was she doing? How was she handling it other than hitting him and telling him that he’s weak? Do you really expect me to believe that the ONLY reason Katsuki acts the way he does is because his peers and teachers said that he was the best, and it has nothing to do with his mother who is aggressive even when he doesn’t do anything and describes him as “good at pretty much everything he does because of his blessed quirk”? His mother who responds to his kidnapping with “well, you got caught because you were weak and it caused so much trouble”?
Children are a product of their environment and there’s nothing anyone can do to convince me that Katsuki is the only child in the world whose biggest influence wasn’t his parents.
“He’s a hot tempered brat and we know he’s a pain” (dub)/“he’s a hopeless guy” (sub). If she talks like this to his teachers, to Pro Heroes, how does she talk to him when they’re alone? How did she respond when he was attacked by the slime villain? When he was chained up and muzzled on live television? You simply can’t convince me that she would’ve reacted any better.
I don’t care that she liked what Aizawa said at the press conference. I don’t care that she means well. I don’t care that she loves him. I don’t care that she clearly cares for him at the end of the manga when he’s in the hospital. No amount of manga panels showing her smiling when she’s near him or holding him as a baby will change the fact that she is a major part of why Katsuki is the way he is. Again, she can love him and be trying her absolute best and still be abusive or a bad mother, regardless of what Horikoshi was intending. I will never argue that she hates her son or that she does this maliciously— but based on her behavior, she’s incredibly damaging to be around.
When did she start hitting him? Was it when he was younger and getting too prideful for his own good? Did it start because he was annoying? Or because he had an attitude problem that she didn’t have the patience to solve without needless violence? Did she try anything other than hitting him or was he just getting on her nerves so that’s what she resorted to first? There are times where kids are truly uncontrollable and there really is nothing you can do to stop them from acting out. There are so many parents right now dealing with kids that refuse to listen and are engaging in really bad behaviors— again, I have personal experience with this.
But something tells me that Katsuki isn’t and never was meant to be one of those kids. Something tells me (and that something is his characterization and how he thrives under Aizawa who actually respects him and how he’s disciplined and grows without parental intervention and how he’s a hero) that Katsuki was not so uncontrollable and dangerous that it warranted any of this. He’s a fifteen year old boy going through some of the worst things people in this universe can imagine and she’s treating him like a burden. It’s actually devastating when you think about it.
My mother did the best she possibly could with the resources she had and I have no doubt that she loves me. But love should never feel like that, and while I respect anyone who wants to like Mitsuki or play with the Bakugou family dynamics, I don’t like her and I don’t like his family and I don’t like the amount of people in the mha fandom that consistently try to justify her behavior by saying it’s just a joke or just a product of the culture.
TLDR: I really dislike Mitsuki and how she’s handled in both the show and fandom. I 100% think that Katsuki is a victim— of his parents, of UA and hero society, and of the villains that target him— and it’s such a critical part of his character to me, a part that often goes overlooked because it genuinely doesn’t seem like most of it was intentional so a lot of people ignore it or just miss it entirely.

i read that fic but i'm afraid i don't know enough about the silmarillion to really understand what's happening lol. i am very intrigued by what i could understand of maedhril's performance stuff + role as the perfectly dutiful girl though. if you wanted to explain some of the stuff the context behind her actions + your opinion/analysis of her as a character... i would not complain👀
He’s the eldest daughter, he’s repressing all his resentment and rage, he cannot be seen as weak, he’s in the sunk-cost fallacy, he has a complicated codependent relationship with a younger sibling, he even kills himself.
*explodes*
yeah this is a situation where the fic is made more impactful because of its unspoken contrast with canon events. So here’s the parts of the Silmarillion that are important to the story.
Maedhros is the the eldest son of the elven king* Feanor. Feanor and his seven sons swear an oath they will recover their father’s master work, three jewels called the Silmarils, from Satan, who stole them. Anybody who keeps a Silmaril from them is their foe.
Except Feanor dies almost immediately, leaving his sons to fulfill the oath and Maedhros to rule. (For a while at least)
As you might guess, the oath backfires spectacularly. No elf, man, or dwarf is safe. Highlights include them inciting a coup, kidnapping and force-marrying a princess, leaving children to die in the woods, massacring entire cities on three separate occasions… the works. All to recover the jewels from whoever was unlucky enough to come into possession of them. These are even more of a big deal since death, suffering, or war weren’t really a thing before they were stolen.
Over the course of the book, all the brothers are killed by the atrocities they commit trying to fulfill the oath. Except for Maedhros and the second-oldest, Maglor.
Eventually, the elves win the war against Satan. The gods chain him and kick him out into the void, and the elven armies take back the two remaining Silmarils. Maedhros and Maglor make a last ditch effort to steal them except when they do, sensing their evil deeds, the jewels burn them. Realizing that all they did was for nothing, Maedhros throws himself into a volcano and Maglor, now alone, wanders along the beach lamenting their deeds until the end of the world.
So what makes this genderbend (Roots Curled and Rotten) so interesting to me is that I headcanon Maedhros with some feminine character traits. Parenting his brothers, running damage control, repressing his resentment about this arrangment. In the fic, you can see a little bit of that in her early childhood with Maglor. But despite Maedhros being an actual woman now, the gender fuckery is going in the opposite direction. (Can’t please anybody in this damn house smh)
What makes this concept so delicious to me is how well this pressure for Maedhril to perform gender feeds into the pressures of her being heir and a sort of de-facto leader for their brothers. Can’t be heir unless boy, can’t be boy unless heir. And despite this pressure, Maedhril is terrified when it seems like Feanor might take away this privilege to not be a woman. I love to see her suffer <3
Later, I can certainly imagine scenarios in which fulfilling the oath and keeping her siblings alive is tied up in her ever present striving to be strong enough, to be masculine enough. You are not a person. You are an heir, a brother, a sister, a parent, a king, a lord. Your only duty to serve and protect other people. And if you aren’t living up to those standards then you are letting everyone down.
And the one thing. The one thing Maedhril keeps for herself is Maglor. Despite her parents wanting to keep Maglor safe at home. Despite Maedhril having the duty and authority to send her away.
“What have you done, their mother asks, with a prize you had so stubbornly fought for?”
“I was put on this earth, Maedhril thinks, looking down at her sister, to ruin beautiful things.”
Narratively speaking, these two sentences punish Maedhril for her selfish decision to stay close to Maglor. And this is the kind of despairing thoughts that might lead to a suicide like in canon.
Maglor is also a super interesting gender bend. I’m going to talk about him a little as well because their stories are so intertwined. In canon he had sworn the oath at the very beginning. And several dead brothers and massacres later begs Maedhros to stop, to give up the oath with him. But in the fic she swears the oath herself. Because it represents to her the freedom to love, protect, and stay close to her sister. And now nobody can take it away from her.
This part in particular drives me insane because in canon, Maedhros was the one pushing Maglor to hold to the oath. The only reason Maglor kept at it was for his brother. And yet Maedhros is the one that gives up first and kills himself, abandoning Maglor. *chews glass* But in the fic, she swore the oath by choice, for Maedhril, which would make the betrayal even worse. I didn’t think it was possible for Maglor to get any more tortured but apparently he can.
I love thinking about all the ramifications of this AU. Would there more challenges to Maedhril's authority because she’s a woman? With all the extra attention Feanor gave her, and all the effort she put into maintaining her position, could this change the canon decision to give up the crown?
@welcomingdisaster we are yapping about your work :)

Was waiting for someone to ask for my other faves. Let's do this!
Disclaimer: No facts, all alleged. I am reading sexual energy here and it helps understand who they are as a person. Now, I am going to expand on this question and ask about their sexual energy. Now, sexual energy can be about matters of sex, but it can also be harnessed into creative projects as well and extended to other areas of our lives. Now, I do not see the act of sex as dirty, perverted like some of ya’ll do, it is a beautiful act, if done right, between two people. How one approaches sex connects to their past, their upbringing, aspects of themselves, and any healing that may need to be done, so I wanted to answer this question to see where they fall in that spectrum. This energy can be used for their creative work as an idol as well. The reading will go into both aspects. This will be listed in the order of the question that was asked to the best I can by their sexual energy.
I will keep them by age order, kind of hard for me to go from MTL, all seemed to have good qualities, they were my favorite so far when it comes to sexual energy.
Yeonjun (The Fool/8 of Cups/Knight of Wands)
He gave me a lot of cards besides the three I highlighted. He has his ups and down. I can see a bit of inexperience, maybe that may have disappointed partners, but he also has a carefree mindset, open and willing to try new things and maybe learn. He may also lack emotional connection when it comes to sex, or maybe he gets bored and needs some new excitement. So, I can see him getting bored with partner after a while. It gets stale for him, and he needs something new. So, boy can be a fuckboy. I mean the Knight of Wands is my fuck boy card. Pretty much in it for sex, not really into it emotionally, or cares about an emotional connection. He also gave me the 5 of wands and swords, so he likes a bit of banter, a bit of back and forth, maybe likes both to dirty talk and do that stuff. He gave me the Sun too, he definitely enjoys the act and does have fun, and has a playful approach to it, lastly Queen of Swords, I see him liking woman that are a bit cold, not emotionally available, and he may like them to communicate to him, maybe what they like or don't like. I just heard talk dirty to me lol Boy is a freak, okay, moving on. I love him. I think he would be pretty good in bed from what I got here. But don't expect any emotional connection. Now, how this play with his creative pursuits, I see him pursuing things of passion, but he struggles to emotionally connect with his work, and can get bored with that he gets.
Soobin (2 of Cups/9 of Swords/3 of Pentacles)
He's cute! He would be the one that likes an emotional connection, so sex would be with someone he loves. He wants to be a sweet and intimate act. Like two souls coming together. So, I don't see him hooking up, not his style. He rather be in a committed relationship. I do sex can be a bit stressful for him, and he may overthink things, like maybe if he does things right, or put pressure on himself. So, yeah, he may have to be very comfortable with the person he sleeps with. This is more about an emotional connection, than just having sex just to do it. He doesn't seem like the type that is horny all that much, unlike the Yeonjun lol He would want it to be a collaborative effort. I don't see him being a Sub or Dom, they both play a role when it comes to the act of sex, working together to reach the goal they want. When it comes to his creative projects, he seems like a team player, he may even work better in a team, rather than be solo, but he does get stressed out about things, so yeah, overall he seems nice and willing to work with his partner and emotionally connect to create a good time for both of them.
Beomgyu (8 of Pentacles/9 of Swords/The Magician)
Not what I expected, now with that Magician card he seems confident in his abilities, this can show someone who is skilled and good at what he does. I can see this as him being able to adapt to whomever he is sleeping with, maybe he can be more passionate, emotional, or communicate more to whatever fits that person's personality. It seems he can do it all. He is a multi-facet person in bed. I see him being a bit of a perfectionist, or very detailed about things. He may like things to be messy, maybe prefers to take his time. I thought he was rougher and faster, so this surprises me, okay. I see him being into cuddling too, or spooning afterwards. I see him wanting the person to be comfortable as well. I can see him stressing about things, maybe stressing about if he is doing things wrong or right, way in his head, and overthinking things as well. He may tend to overthink things when it comes to sex. I can also see him wanting to try new things and experiment as well. So, when it comes to his creative projects, I see someone multi-facet and talented, he has many gifts, skills and talents to showcase. But I also see this perfectionist mindset and stressing himself out, because things aren't going as good as planned, that can play into sex as well.
Taehyun (7 of Pentacles/Ace of Pentacles/Page of Swords)
Another one who gave me a lot. Let's start with the three I wrote above. Hmm, he seems more practical when it comes to sex. I don't know what to make of this one. He seems supportive of his partner, will probably take his time and be slow and gentle, tending to the needs of his partner. He isn't giving me much passion, so not seeing much of that with sex with him. He is slower and more precise with things. He doesn't seem like a horny dude, or someone who always needs to have sex. He may be someone who struggles to communicate his needs. He may just try to please his partner. But he also gave me the King of Swords, I see this as him being someone who plans and strategizes things. He is clear on what he wants to do. But then he got the King of Cups, he is emotionally stable and calm, so he would be a solid source of comfort for his partner during sex. Taking the lead with things. I do see some inexperience with him when it comes to sex, with this page, or a timidness to him. But overall, he is pretty mature about how to handle sex with someone. How this spills to his creative project. He tends to be more practical, may play it safe with things, this spills into the bedroom, don't see him being that spontaneous or experimental. He may even possibly be boring a bit. So, if you are into passionate/fun sex he isn't the one for you. It is like he has a plan in his head of how things will go and that is how it goes lol So, he can also be that way creatively wise.
Hueningkai (The Magician/Wheel of Fortune/Knight of Cups)
I see him being a huge flirt. I can also see him being someone multi-facet and capable of experimenting and trying new things. I can see him being into hook-ups and flirting his way to someone's bed, he just has that charm and pull about him. There is something here about timing, maybe he has a timetable of how long it should last, I don't know. He isn't giving me much else, so pulled some other cards, got the empress, so he may like older females, I think I got that before, although he gave me, he was into men, but I see him liking older woman, not sure he got a pregnancy kink, or someone with motherly energy he likes, maybe someone who will nurture and take care of him during sex, and he also gave me the 2 of cups, so he would like an emotional connection, to feel loved during sex, so he is giving me strong sub energy here. And someone to take care of him. So, when it comes to his creative work, he is a very creative and spontaneous person when it comes to his work. I see him as someone who follows his heart and likes to be emotionally connected to his work. I see him thinking time is ticking, does he want to have kids soon? Because with this Empress energy, I don't know, he might, he never gave me someone who wants kids. Anyway, he was hard to understand lol I am done trying to understand this.

Just watched Nosferatu, and I’ve heard a lot of things. But oh boy did nobody warn me that it was a bad film (in my opinion)!!!!!!
Here’s me ranting bc I have so many thoughts:
1. The costumes and set, the DESIGN that went into this film were all gorgeous, but they did nothing for the story. The costumes and set did not convey the story of the characters
2. The environment also did not play a role in the story of the film despite being used visually. Why use beautiful vistas and the grandiose aspects of nature if you’re not gonna fucking use them for anything other than “here’s something nice to look at!” (Especially when you’re set in the FUCKING ROMANTIC ERA!! Come on!)
3. The plot (oh boy the fucking plot), of which there were three? There were too many plots. This film did not know what it’s point was.
Was it about forbidden desire? (I don’t think so) if it was it didn’t say anything with it. What was the point? What was the message? That forbidden desire is something you must sacrifice for?
This film wanted to be about desire and then someone (the director?) made the choice to make vampires unsexy??? For a film where one of the plots was about sex and desire, it was shockingly uninterested in sex and desire??? It was so committed to being unsexy? Where the vampire is literally called by her desire to exist and yet, there’s nothing? What is happening!
4. Sexism. I thought, considering the setting and the new focus on the woman (idk her name, idk anybody’s names, the Mina Harker stand in), they would address the sexism of the period??? But no! They even discuss hysteria!! Melancholy! They tie her to the ficking bed and it GOES NOWHERE!!!
5. The dialogue. This film is so over exaggerated, it could be so stylistic, the dialogue certainly is. and yet it plays itself so serious, so straight. How can anybody say “I’ve seen things that would make Isaac Newton crawl back into his mothers womb” and not even a little bit acknowledge that it’s a crazy thing to say??? If you acknowledged that this man was a little off his rocker it could work! But no! The audience in the theater laughed!! Multiple times when the tone of the film was very clearly supposed to be serious! But it was funny!!
5a. See Thomas laying flat on his face after his first night in the castle (laughter). Or like, plenty of the buckwild lines. I’m gonna have to go to Reddit to find a proper list some day bc there’s some real gems.
6. Lily Rose Depps performance. It’s so intense. She’s going at a ten when everyone else is acting very subtly, with really great subtle expressions that convey what they’re feeling. And then she’s shouting half her dialogue, with very little build in intensity or time to build up. It made it hard to tell how I was supposed to interpret what she was feeling. Did she really love Thomas? Was she truly afraid of Orlock? What was happening?
7. Pacing. There’d be one incredibly intense, chaotic, horrifying and emotional scene, and then it would cut to Frederick and the two doctors just standing around talking!!! Where does your carefully built tension and suspense go!!!!! For a film highlighting the experiences of a woman, it sure doesn’t spend a lot of time showing us what she’s thinking!!! Or doing! Or feeling!!!
This film dragged. The first half was too long, the second half was unfocused. I could go into the cutting room with this film and take half an hour out and I guarantee you wouldn’t notice. Defoe’s character could be folded into the other doctor and no changes would be necessary. Why is Knock in the later half? What does he add to the story to begin with? (Nothing)
Especially when you consider that it’s totally normal to assume everyone is somewhat familiar with the story of Dracula. You do not have to reinvent the wheel!! You can cut stuff! We do not need Thomas spending so much time in the Castle! Or with the nuns! Or Frederick! (Speaking of, what happened to the money and debt subplot?) we don’t need them. Give me more of what’s her faces story! (Is it Tulla? Helen? Something with an L?)
8. Dracula’s castle: as a modern audience, we know Dracula is evil. Thomas does not need an extended scene of being told Dracula is evil. We do not need him in this house of horrors. It might actually be MORE horrifying if we don’t see it, if we guess! He doesn’t know what’s happening, he’s being violated! And we don’t know either! Just cut it bc it does nothing to the plot after the contract is signed. If you need a reason somebody in this story can kill a vampire, give it to Defoes character.
9. I have seen other films do these same themes and ideas, this exact story even, and I have seen it done better. Hell, I’m a massive fan of Bram Stoker’s Dracula from 1996 with Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves. It does the same story in a very campy, silly, seductive manner. But because it knows what it is, because it knows what tone and story it’s going for, because it does not take itself too seriously, I can actually get into it! I can vibe! I can have fun! I can see what it’s going for and appreciate it!!! But no! Count Orlock’s stuttering drawl has no place in this film! It does not fit stylistically! The “sexy” scenes, the need for Mina to sacrifice herself in a way, it doesn’t work the same!
I think this is what makes me so mad!!!!!!!! It’s similar to how I felt after watching Bullet Train. A well done, we’ll executed movie which very clearly had talented artistic people working on it, but without a soul. A film that has taken better movies and ground them up into a paste to spit back out at me. A film without anything to say. A hollow shell of shots and cuts and dialogue that doesn’t actually add up to a story.
