yes absolutelyyyyy i fiend for responding. i guess the first like. mildly successful fic i wrote (said ted lasso fic lol) got a LOOOT of comments, many of which kind of lent themselves to discussion post vibes? like, asking questions, noting foreshadowing, that kind of thing. not sure if that's a ted lasso thing, a multichapter fic in progress thing, a not pwp thing, or just the specific people who got invested in that fic thing, but i was sooo spoiled. got very used to people like picking out their favorite quotes and asking questions and inevitably having like, 4 or 5 comment long threads going back and forth. glorious. all that to say i always respond to comments bc so many of the first comments i got were engaging like that. and now there's less of that kind of comment (though i promise i appreciate all the comments i get!!!) but the habit stuck with me lol

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

oh dear fucking god. atmosphere, maybe? ppl compliment that sometimes. paying really strict attention to the like. grounding of what's happening in the physical world???? squeezing in lots of detail without being overbearing, maybe?? (hopefully???)

SHADOWBRINGERS BABYYYYY failure it's failure it's being surrounded by people's hatred for the failed warriors of light and feeling her body start to fail her and collapsing under the weight of a calamity and seeing the sky suffused with light again and knowing you fucking failed and everyone hates you now. of course they do. you've seen how the entire world treats the memory of ardbert and his fellow warriors and you've seen how ishgard discarded your family when you failed her. you're no better than any of them you're just a failure too. what tart does in this situation is lock herself in her room, crawl under the bed and curl up crying. if there's no bed she will make do with a closet or bushes or what have you. i think the only two people to have seen her at this point are haurchefant and reeq. OH WAIT ESTINIEN TOO LMAO that one's fun. haurchefant and reeq are so sweet in consoling her while estinien just hands her food looking like 😐

honestly... if tart kept holding onto her overwhelming power after endwalker, it would be so much worse for her. like, yeah now he feels inadequte in comparison to the warrior of light he had been before, but defining herself by being powerful while it corrupted her from the inside could end up killing her. oh my god i really hate when people write characters w multiple pronouns interchangably in the same sentence but i just did it myself. whatever you know what i mean. if tart didn't choose to become just some guy (still a very powerful guy but not like tart the wol level u know) he would suffer for it. i don't have other bad end ideas yet, maybe i'll think of something else later

The vampire theater being gritty dirty vaudevillean is fitting and I would like all Santiago' outfits especially.

I love Claudia soaking in the spectacle of the opening speech.

Oh Santiago despises the humans and them not believing in vampires existence. The plays were cruel showing vampires true deep dark nature; self serving, haunted by their own demises to the gift, a flair for the dramatic, etc. So they toy with the humans by telling them the truth, these vampires do not even need to glimmer/mind control their audience. Funny and sad that humans and vampires share these same cruel sensibilities.

I love that, "we are conscious death".

They devoured her with an audience and made it into cruel art. Louis is disturbed but it's no different than him taking photos of Armand' next kills. Which someone pointed out they are just doing what Lestat proposed to Louis.

Thoughts:

I get what people were saying about missing the plucky ball and chain comedic timing of season 1. Somehow even though we are only 2 episodes in I somehow miss Lestat. He is the arterie and everyone else in comparison feels like skinny small veins. I enjoyed Santiago entirely but, I do have some issues with how the theater performance was cutting between audience and this intense moment. Sinead did a fantastic job in that scene. The theater group contrasts the ugly and the beautiful sides of being a vampire in a bold way. I know they were filming some of this during the strike and stricter pandemic rules but there is something I'm missing from the background of this episode.

Final Horizon, the Frontiers DLC, started super nicely, I liked everything about it right up until trial 2. trial 3 was fine, 4 was fine too so my hopes were back up. then the master trial hit, and now i'm at the boss, and now it's just bad to me.

here's the thing: I would love if the mechanics were refined and fixed up, the difficulty would 100% be tolerable. I did Doom Eternal's Ultra Nightmare mode, I did Dead Space 2's Hardcore mode, I GOT 106% IN CRASH FUCKING 4. I am TOTALLY FINE with difficulty (especially when it gives you something for doing it (fuck you crash 4 lmfao))

but the game is about as nutritionally balanced as a fast food meal. It's just not bro.

the perfect parry requires near FRAME PERFECT inputs, but you can spam the stomp until the sun collapses. the titan animations look like they SHOULD be telegraphed correctly but they're off. Sometimes the attack hit is late, sometimes it's early.

Y'know what, I also hate these fucking babymen who can't handle that their precious little blue rat game is getting criticized so they hide behind their meaningless skill in a single player video game for children. I can understand wanting difficulty, the rest of Frontiers is a cakewalk, and at the end of the day it's a totally free content update that doesn't change fuck about the main game, but this is not real difficulty. It's bad jank. I love Sonic to the end of the fucking earth but this is literally just annoying content. the last of any big spectacle at the final boss was completely ruined by the terrible gameplay that lead up to it. I am in absolutely no fucking rush to play it, in fact I'll probably just watch it online and uninstall the game to make space for something else. (steam deck storage issues)

I feel like I need to bring something up, relevant to all this: Doom Eternal also got DLC, The Ancient Gods, and it was ALSO fucking NUTS HARD. (talking more about Pt 1 here lmao)

HOWEVER. Once you learned how to play through TAG 1 at a high enough level, the REST OF THE GAME opened WIDE UP. It's a hurdle, but once you do it you feel like a fucking CHAMPION. You genuinely feel like you become a master of the art of "Fucking Shit Up".

Final Horizon makes me feel like a child who just got beat up by the school bullies. I don't feel any cooler or better at the game, I just feel like walking back home and maybe crying and pissing myself a bit.

It's not rewarding skill at all, it's just needless skill. Skill that will never apply to anywhere else in the main game. Because the game was never built for this type of difficulty. (the pre-trial tower climbs were all perfect though) Combat in Frontiers was almost entirely spectacle. It was fucking cool spectacle but at the end of the day you could totally get through the entire game mashing X and you could get away scot-free.

Now, I think the Cyberspace stages are about where the difficulty is present AND correct. It makes sense HOW they're hard, and they don't break any rules just to make the game harder. You can still do absolutely everything you could do in the base game's Cyberspace levels with zero changes to your moveset, the goal posts are now basically expecting you to use your skills. THAT is good skill usage. Not "Let's make your parry window fuckin 8 frames long, go fuck yourself" like what???

I had an idea for how the combat could be just a bit tougher (i'm no game designer yet so this could be ass): Make the boost gauge affect what attack moves you can make and how many times you can make them, and while in combat it recovers a little slower but speeds up by attacking normally. Spamming stomp would basically be impossible, now you have to time it out. i don't fuckin know i just want frontiers's difficulty to make sense.

✍️: overall, how does the fandom trait you? are you a beloved character, or hated? are you popular, or a minor side character? anything in between?

by nature of my insert being a part of the hermes familia, she's relegated to being a side character by default, unfortunately. that said, she has her moments where she's relevant and shows up fairly often (with or without hermes), so i like to think she'd have at least some number of fans. definitely a niche fave, though, to be sure.

generally, i think the fandom's opinion of her would be neutral or skewing slightly positive, though there's also... moments... i can imagine would turn some people off from her. the further on in the story you go, the more divisive i think she'd become.

🤪: what is your trait that fanon would exaggerate?

god. definitely how tsundere she is. it'd be played up and also beaten into the ground at the same time.

👯: what canon character are you most similar to?

fans would probably describe my insert as an unholy combination of lili and bete — meaning she's small and cute and is more than capable of being underhanded and sneaky, but also that she's extremely hotheaded and the loner type that doesn't play nice with others. the emotional constipation is also through the roof with her lmfao.

there are far deeper comparisons between myself and those two, though — the desperation to get out of a situation you're trapped in; the overwhelming need to be strong enough to not have to rely on others — but that's an essay for another day.

🌦️: would you be accompanied by mostly fluff or angst fanfics? both? explain why.

i think it'd be a combination of both, but that the number of angst fics would really increase as the story progresses and it becomes more apparent that hermes is... sort of an antagonist. 💀 lots of fics of my insert reflecting on what he's doing (oftentimes to people she cares about) and the fact that she's complacent in a lot of his plans, if not outright aiding in them. fics where she wonders if her devotion has become obligation and if she even wants to be following him anymore. that kind of thing. not to mention the whole immortal god x mortal that will eventually die thing, too.

there'd be plenty of fluff to offset it, though! 😤 plenty of fics of him returning home to my insert, my insert going with him when he travels, and tons where the plot is literally just "Hermes Flusters Koda Beyond Repair Part 14857" lmao

we're a rarepair only in the sense that the hermes familia isn't a huge focal point, so our on-screen scenes are fairly limited and most of our relationship is kept to the background. but of the people who have huge brains and do care about him / the familia / my insert, we're a huge otp. canon, even. 😤

☕️: what are the most common plots of shipping fics between you and your f/o?

i feel like lots of them would have to do with traveling — whether it be him leaving, him returning, or the odd one where my insert goes with him wherever he disappears off to. another common one would be ones that involve him breaking down my insert's walls, whether that be by way of flustering her until she threatens to kill him snaps or through rare, genuine moments between the two of them.

also plenty of ones where they just scheme together — fics that make it very clear why insert fits together so well with the infamously cunning and underhanded god of thieves and wit.

💘: why would people love your ship? why would people dislike your ship? wow might it start debates?

haha. oh boy.

i think the devotion aspect of our relationship — mostly on the end of my insert — would be the reason people would either really love or really hate us together. on the positive side, it's similar to the royal x devoted knight trope in the sense that, regardless of how low hermes stoops or what moderately to genuinely awful things he does, she still faithfully stays by his side, even if she personally disagrees with him or his methods because she loves him and he loves her back.

on the flip side, i can see a lot of people either misconstruing her as blindly following him or, less egregiously but still incorrectly, assuming that she stays with him because she cosigns everything he does. there's also the matter of my insert's backstory and the context in which she and hermes met and, by extension, ended up joining his familia which would probably lead to a number of people believing that she's only still with him out of obligation and that her feelings aren't real (or, if not that, then that they're not healthy). that last one would definitely be a point of contention between the people that ship us and the ones that don't.

💌: how would your dynamic be portrayed? what might people focus on most? any misconceptions?

i mean, the obvious one is god x faithful follower, but that's nowhere near the true depth of it. i think that would undercut a lot of other dynamics we fall into that people would focus on, though — that, alongside the tsundere x one who gets off on teasing them thing we have going on. those would be the main ones, i think.

not necessarily a dynamic thing, but people would definitely make the misconception that my insert just enables everything he does and never questions or disagrees with him, which is just. blatantly false. 💀

First impression: Too cool for school tbh. Like the best comparison I have for it is hearing people hype up the quarterback for like a high school football team in a movie and thinking to yourself, "He's an idiot, isn't he?" The kinda guy that's liked for the shallowest of reasons—either his looks or what he can get people rather than his skills or personality. Perhaps not a fraud... but not all that impressive either. This is all cuz of how he was introduced before his teasers came out. All we had to judge him off of was all the other characters' talking him up in their voice lines, so before he actually dropped, I was just sitting there thinking to myself god, is he really all that they're making him out to be or is it the fact that Mondstadt has no mandatory education program? I was sure I wouldn't be caught in his web.

Impression now: Well, I dropped $100 on him back in the day during his first banner, so I think we all know what I thought of him after I actually got the chance to MEET him

Favorite moment: God that's a toughie tbh... I know you hate that all of his appearances are limited events but I personally LOVE that fact because it means that everyone who's never played the game just hearing people talk him up probably all have the same first impression that I did LMAO. But if I have to pick a moment... well... "Destroy Mondstadt, destroy everything." is PROBABLY when I fell in love with him? Just realizing how lonely and isolated he is because he didn't know how to connect with people is so relatable too, and with the addition of Dragonspine at the time when we were bone dry for content? Unpopular opinion: This is more of a headcanon than anything, but do you guys ever think that his modesty originates from a rather forced place? Like I imagine he was super cold and unemotional about most things while with Rhinedottir, just solely thinking about his own efficiency and results more than his feelings. So what if he wasn't always the kind of guy to gently brush off any declarations of him being a genius? What if, before he started uncovering the natural beauty of the world for what it is rather than what it gets him, he wasn't very good at gracefully accepting compliments? Someone would say he's good at something and he responds with a toneless, "Naturally." I mean, to back this up, his vision story quite literally says he was not surprised to receive one. Maybe Timaeus was the ultimate test when it came to having patience with the slower people in a similar field as him LMFAO

Thank God they cut all that physically violent stuff because thats one way to get people to instinctively hate your main character. It’s also something you can’t take back. There is always going to be that thought: will he get physically violent again if he gets that stressed and could that escalate? It becomes a harmful environment right off the bat and changes the tone to something that might be interesting but not what the show was overall going for, at least not as a final product. I also think it oversells the point they are trying to make. We get it, this is a hard time for our trauma onion (a term that I love so much thank you for bringing it into my life) but there are better and more sympathetic ways to show that. Now I’m a fan of stories with unlikable main characters, but that’s not what they were going for it seems. So I’m glad they cut it. There is also no way someone throwing gravy doesn’t look goofy.

i feel like final pilot carmy is a little, like the tiniest bit, more withholding when it comes to explaining the changes he's trying to make but is more understanding of why the crew is so reluctant to change. i don't think he views them entirely as equals, but at least he's not straight up apologizing to syd "for the people who work here." he's definitely still angry, overburdened, and maybe even a little out of his depth, but his emotions feel more nuanced. he's not angry to get a reaction, his anger has a weight behind it. like, sure on the surface carmy's losing his shit over not having his knife, but that's not the only thing he's upset by and you can tell. so when he finally does have his meltdown(s) it feels earned because you know it's not just about whatever he's initially reacting to.

I can't add much because you have pretty much expressed perfectly all my thoughts lmfao especially with the Maria and El comparisons

They are characters who are LEAGUES better than Eri because one, they have actually complicated relationships with their abusers! And while it isn't always the case irl, having characters like Rosa or Brenner (in the late season) have mixed feelings about their victims and even have moments where they show genuine care about them and have some moments of happyness together!

Thing that in Overhaul isn't present because the character is obviously been made to be a hate sink which not only makes the whole situation less compelling but also is kind of a shitty writing choice. (Also, i think that his abuse of her is waaay too cartoonish to actually hate. You don't see people cutting a little girl up to extract her blood to make drugs. You see mothers hitting and neglecting their children every day.)

Imagine how much better the arc would be if Overhaul, still experimenting on Eri and being overall abusive to her, had shown a bit more care like "i DO care about you but i care about your power more but i will still give you food and treat you well and clean you and spend time with you so why do you react so badly when i take you apart? Why aren't you grateful for not being in the streets like many other abandoned children are?". While Eri still sees him as a father figure but is resents him because daddy hurts her and. It might not be a perfect idea but it still gives the so lacking nuance to their relationship!

Overhaul still undobtedly abuses her and is awful but he isn't comically awful like he is in canon!

And if horikoshi didn't want to give nuance to their relationship, at least he could have made eri both visually and psychologically more fucked up! Let her be skinnier let her have eyebags let her be dirty! Let her not know how to act in public or be distrustful because as you've said there is no way she could be this natural and kind! She has never met an adult who was kind to her! Let her be selfish and possessive over small things and quick to either anger or withdrawing! Sherry: it honestly kinda depends? in her usual context, her standard style of dress is pretty standard for Punta Cenizan natives, so I'd say about 5/10, nice and neutral. outside of that context though, she's been called "stylish" and while she herself would wholeheartedly agree with that claim it DID catch me considerably off guard (I'm glad to know someone thinks I'm good at designing outfits at least lmfao), so I guess in that instance it'd be closer to 7/10

Summer: 5/10 in the present, 8/10 in the future. present incarnation's in a similar boat to Sherry: compared to like 90% of Pokémon characters, her fashion sense is actually pretty standard. her future incarnation leans into the more "out there" side of the spectrum though, and she & I personally think she rocks it

Reasons why it’s not incest:
