I loved the video, might be a bit but I appreciate how it dissolves some of the judgement in the conversation. I also have thoughts about this whole thing, as a person who gets their name mispronounced/misspelled quite frequently by people of my own culture. My name is rare but not unique or foreign, and our spelling rules are very regular (unlike in English). It made me think that more people might have auditory processing disorder or challenges with spelling than we actually realize and I'm kinda terrified that people who are young and online these days are taught to see ill intent almost by default in this kind of mistake. I know there is definitely a minority of people who refuse to learn foreign names out of bigotry/racism, no denying that. But it's imo a mistake to assume this is the reason by default whenever someone messes up pronouncing a name.
Tumblr media
okay okay I know the point of this is “White people need to put as much effort into learning how to pronounce Black people’s names as they do foreign European names” and 100% I totally agree, absolutely good point
but this tweet becomes hilarious in the context of this clip:
anyways, absolutely put effort into learning how people pronounce their names. just don’t feel bad if it takes you some time to get it right 😅
(also in case you didn’t watch the video it’s “N-SHOO-tee” not “SHOO-tee”)

My mom decided to weigh in on this, on the side of the Italian boxer, thinking I'd allow her to repeat bullshit talking points for some reason (never have allowed that shit, especially not from someone who raised me not to tolerate racism or anything that ends with someone being put down)...I made her stay on the line until she admitted she was wrong.

I actually love hearing about reformed people's stories. I love hearing about people who were in toxic communities or people who used to objectively be dickheads talking about how they got out of that. How they made themselves better.
I hate how most people's initial reaction to stories like that are things like:
"How could you have ever done those things?!" "Oh my god, you believed those things?!" "Well it doesn't un-do the harm you did!"
People incessantly advocate for change but then refuse to allow people who have changed the grace of being acknowledged and given opportunities and chances.
I love hearing about ex-antis talking about how they don't spend their days being angry and sending death threats anymore.
I love hearing about ex-homophobes who realized there's no magic law about what is "natural."
I love reformed bullies talking about how they made amends with their victims and spend their days being considerate of others.
You can't scream about wanting people to change but then expect them to spend the rest of their lives stuck in the past and on who they used to be. You can't expect people to spend the entire rest of their lives grovelling and apologizing and demeaning themselves.
Instead of clinging to who they were, latch onto who they are.
Ask how they got out of it. Commend them on changing. Enjoy that there's one less cause of harm in the world.

I really do miss back when it was considered fucking weird to ask trans people(or anyone who is even a little gnc/has a label you don't understand/is giving you queer vibes)* what their assigned sex at birth is. Like we literally used to roast cis people for this shit, that's legit why the "what's in your pants" meme exists, but somehow we've reached a point where a very vocal portion of the online trans community genuinely thinks you owe people this information so they can make insane generalizations about you and your life and if you refuse that's cause for suspicion and I really shouldn't have to explain how fucked that is.
Interrogating people about what's in their pants is transphobe/terf/transmed shit. "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" is fed shit. Tbh "you owe me personal information about your body and medical history" is ableist and intersexist shit. Sex and/or gender tells you literally nothing concrete about a person and there is no world where you are owed this information. Can we cut this shit out and go back to judging people by their words and actions instead of what some random doctor decided their body looks like when they were a squishy baby, you know, like normal people? Please??
*It's also wildly intersexist but unfortunately I don't think we've ever reached a point of collectively accepting that it's horrid to ask intersex people unprompted questions about their bodies and medical histories. You are absolutely not owed any of that information for any reason, especially given that medical history typically goes hand in hand with profound trauma due to how normalized medical abuse against intersex people is, and everyone needs to get that through their heads yesterday. If they want to share they can and will, aside from that it's none-ya.

I had this one coworker at the jewelry store that I just loathed. She was the shittiest kind of devout where she made her whole deal bigotry. Now it’s important to note that I’d already had a run in with her that made me give exactly zero fucks how rude she perceived me as.
One day in the back room several coworkers were gathered on break discussing bakers refusing gay clients. The general tenor of the conversation was damning on the bigoted bakery that wouldn’t serve gay clients.
This fucking lady has the audacity to go, “Well if I could just play devils advocate-“
And I whipped my head around to make piercing eye contact and announced, “No, I have enough devils in my life.”
It was honestly one of the most satisfying moments ever, to have the perfect comeback in my mouth right when I wanted it and to have had the balls to whip it out.
Her mouth snapped shut and the break room went awkwardly silent with suppressed delight. I turned back to continue talking to a friend of mine.
Afterward my friend reveled in the moment, telling me, “I just keep seeing her shocked expression over and over. This is the best day.”
She ended up getting let go a few months later and she was unilaterally unmourned.

I think like I'm going to end up making being bullish about confronting the blatant and popular bigotry and objectifying double standards that people have around nonmonogamy my next big social issue to start shit about, I'm not kidding. And honestly I think you should too when posts like this get 50k likes.

lol maybe a not great way to phrase this but a lot of trans men are NOT emotionally prepared to be "treated like men" outside their insular transmasc fagdyke friend groups and fly off the handle fucking immediately the first time they are unfairly mistrusted for being a dude (shitty and im not saying this should be the case but did you not fucking comprehend why people act this way toward men and come to expect this?) or ghosted/rejected by a trans woman bc she prefers dating other trans women, or maybe simply someone else (we have all fumbled people, there is no need to become generally vindictive toward women about it bc they aren't attracted to you...)

if you're a white person taking pleasure in the idea that Trump voters of colour are experiencing racist violence from white trumpers because "they got what's coming to them" I don't think you're anti-racist at all, I think you were just waiting for an acceptable target, and you're also fucking weird.
Bad Person Deserves Punishment For Their Sins give me a fucking break and get yourself out of the fucking catholic church. you're all prison abolitionists until you see someone you don't like.

It’s that time of year again, to remember that the Salvation Army is an anti-LGBTQIA+ hate group that uses its tax-free donations to fund discrimination and bigotry.
