my dear sangyeon's enthusiast, @winterchimez, this one is for you
ENTRY ONE ˳ SANGYEON & UNDERWATER !
cast … lee sangyeon x gn! reader ༝ genre … fluff ༝ words … 195 ༝ cw(s) … kissing? ༝ sunkissed … the series is already flopping but let’s keep going !
Tumblr media
“i bet i can hold my breath underwater longer than you can.”
it’s your taunt that leads you into your current position — eyes shut and lips sealed while you hold yourself beneath the clear waters. even though it’s ideal, your lack of vision comes with a disadvantage: you can’t see the mischief that glosses over sangyeon’s visage.
you don’t realize he’s planning to cheat — not yet at least. it doesn’t become obvious when he sits his hands on your waist, or when he blows a few oxygen bubbles right in front of you.
see, you only come to figure it out when he stamps his familiar, rosy lips upon yours.
despite your competitive side’s attempts to keep you underwater, you’ve never been god’s strongest soldier. so you make sangyeon happy by unintentionally fulfilling the last step in his plan: breaking through the surface for air.
“i win.” it’s a husky whisper that’s been dipped into a cup of amusement.
and maybe you should be annoyed that he played dirty..
but after sangyeon kisses you again (and again.. and a few more times for his satisfaction), perhaps this game was rigged from the start.

Beyond the Game
5. Playing for keeps

Before you knew it, the next day had arrived. Ei was already on your ass, barking reminders about how important today was. Your team would finally meet the others competing in the tournament, and you couldn’t afford to look unprepared. The thought of seeing him again made your chest tighten, but you pushed it aside as best you could.
The sunlight streaming through your window was relentless, forcing you out of the comfort of your bed. Pulling on something comfortable but presentable, you wandered out of your room to check on the others.
Lumine sat at the small vanity brushing her hair, her movements methodical. Xiao was already on the couch, fully dressed and looking like he’d been ready for hours. Venti and Fischl were engaged in a lively conversation, their animated gestures contrasting with the quiet determination etched across Xiao’s face.
You leaned against the doorframe, watching them for a moment. The easy way they interacted with each other was comforting, though the knot in your stomach refused to untangle. Today wasn’t just a big day for the tournament—it was a big day for you. A chance to prove yourself, to make a name for your team. But it also meant facing him.
"Morning," you said, your voice hoarse from sleep.
Lumine glanced up from her mirror, her brows knitting together in concern. "Did you sleep okay?"
You shrugged. "Good enough." It was a lie, but no one pressed further.
"Finally awake, huh?" Venti teased, throwing an arm around your shoulders as if he hadn’t been gossiping moments before. "We were about to leave you behind!"
"You would not," you replied, rolling your eyes at his dramatic grin.
Fischl raised an eyebrow, her usual flair for theatrics creeping into her tone. "Y/N, thou must steel thyself. The battlefield awaits, and destiny does not favor the unprepared."
"Translation: don’t let him mess with your head," Xiao said bluntly, cutting through Fischl’s dramatics with his usual sharp tone. He stood up from the couch, adjusting his jacket as his piercing gaze met yours. "You’ve worked too hard for this."
His words grounded you. You nodded, though the unease still lingered.
The ride to the venue was filled with idle chatter, Venti breaking into random snatches of song while Fischl and Lumine debated strategies for the matches ahead. Xiao, as always, remained the silent anchor, his presence reassuring even in its quietness.
When you arrived, the buzz of the tournament filled the air. Teams from all over the region milled about the massive hall, the hum of conversation underscored by an electric tension. You stuck close to your team as you weaved through the crowd.
At a long table near the center of the room, Ei sat, surrounded by other team captains. Among them was Scaramouche.
Your stomach clenched, but you said nothing, keeping your gaze focused on your team’s path. For once, there was no risk of you sneaking glances in his direction. You refused to let him have that power over you.
“Welcome, everyone, to the Team Meet-Up!” The announcer’s lively voice boomed over the speakers, drawing the room’s attention. “This is your chance to meet your future competitors! Go ahead, introduce yourselves, and make some connections—friendly or otherwise!”
“That’s when—” Lumine began, but she was cut off.
“Hey! I’m Mona, it’s a pleasure to meet you!” a voice chirped behind you.
You turned to see a girl with striking features and confident energy extending her hand toward your team. Her eyes flickered toward Scaramouche briefly before narrowing.
“Kunikuzushi,” she said flatly, folding her arms. “I didn’t think you’d want to work with anyone besides yourself.”
Scaramouche leaned back in his chair, rolling his eyes with a dramatic sigh. “I only do what I need to win. Unlike you.”
Mona scoffed, clearly unimpressed. “You know each other?” you asked, sensing tension between them.
“Yeah,” Mona said, her tone sharp. “We dated for a while—until he became an ass.”
Scaramouche stuck his tongue out at her like a petulant child.
“Yeah, I totally get that,” you muttered under your breath, the words slipping out before you could stop them.
Mona’s gaze softened as she turned back to you. “We should totally hang out sometime,” she said brightly, pulling her phone from her pocket. Before you could process what was happening, she’d handed you her number.
You stared at it in surprise, her easy confidence catching you off guard. “Uh, sure,” you said, tucking it into your pocket.
“Great,” she said with a smile. “I think we’d get along. Let’s catch up later!”
As Mona walked off, Fischl leaned closer, raising an eyebrow. “Making friends already, are we?”
“Shut up,” you mumbled, though a small part of you felt lighter.
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed Scaramouche watching the interaction, his smirk faltering ever so slightly before he turned away.
For the first time in a while, you felt like maybe, just maybe, the day would be okay.
Or would end up in another disaster. But who knows mona seems cool.

short filler chap. I just wanted to give context for next chapter. Scarayn/kuniyn vs Scaramona 🗣️ (Scarayn winning) Sorry bout my HORRIBLE posting schedule. I have really bad insomnia and horrible procrastination issues.. BUT ITS FINE CHAT. Send in ask of who i should put on Mona’s team…
Scara and mona dated for about 8 months never took their relationship online besides the people that would take pictures of them when they were out together.
Scara doesn’t really know why he has to win. He just knows he has to win.

Out of all the literary quotes that can be thrown at the Master and thoschei, this one from A hero of our time always struck me as a particularly accurate. Like, when the Master rushes over to keep the Doctor from falling in EoT, this is what popped up in my brain. Why?
Well, A hero of our time is up there with Shamela as earliest cases of recuntruction of a genre. Except where Shamela deconstructs stories that are generally regarded as sham - the mindbogglingly noble innocent girl "fixing" a guy, with none of the introspection to be found in Bronte sisters' works - A hero of our time deals with a more regarded - and objectively artisticly more meritorious - genre of byronic heroes. The main character, Grigory Pechorin, ticks all the boxes of a byronic hero - handsome, young, tragic, romantic, what have you - except unlike his predecessors like Byron's Giaour or Pushkin's Eugene Onegin (that Pechorin is a direct parody of, with both having river-based surnames)... he's aware he's a bastard. Like, there's always a part of him that can look at himself from outside and recognize that he's ruining himself and others, and that there are very easy ways to stop this. If you provided a critical analysis and called him a spoiled rich white boy who needs therapy, he'd be the first to agree. He's an homme fatal in the way of quality noir femmes fatales, who - again, in actually good noir films - strike the audience as much, much more than just sexy objects that can't control their sexuality and selfish impulses.
Which is why the above passage strikes the reader so hard. Yes, it's all written in a memoir convention, but we're still not at the point of deconstructing the peotic frames, what is written is to be taken at face value. And what we find is a flood of emotion, of deeply honest love and desperation that's hard to be brushed aside as a pose. And yet it's the pov character/main character that does so. He even goes for biologization of his state, dismissing it as possibly litte more than exhaustion. He recognizes spleen for a endocrinological imbalance that the name suggests.
The book is perfectly, openly unpreachy. There's no moral here to derive about how to live. It just presents the reader with a character that we are deeply confused about: he's clearly capable of deep, beautiful, noble emotions, yet chooses not to act on them, the moment a single physical obstacle (such horse dying from exhaustion) cuts the stream of consciousness. There's something no longer unsentimental as much as anti-sentimental about it. "People are, by nature, good, and if they just followed their natural empathy and feelings"- no, nothing good would come out of it, at least there's no guarantee.
And yet there's an honesty to it. An honesty that's specifically lacking in usual romantic heroes. There's an awareness that this level of dramaticness in life has to involve an element of cynically orchestrating it. And it's not the case of preachy "and therefore we should dismiss all delusions of such emotional rushes as fake", because there is no fakeness. It's the case of even manipulation being stragnely honest about itself, moreseo than truth could ever be. It appears to be saying "the only way to resolve the mystery of Mona Lisa's smile is to scratch all the paint off the beechwood, do you really think you'll find something truer underneath?". In a way, yes, wood was there beofre da Vinci, but I don't really think that's the reality we're looking for.
That's why when either fandom or the source material goes for getting to the Master "undearneath all performance" it strikes me as empty. No, it's not the Doctor knowing the truth of the Master, it's the case of the Master exposing truths about the Doctor.
Like Pechorin of byronic heroes.

Journey to the West Chapter 16
Tumblr media
So Tripitaka and Sun Wukong find themselves at yet another Monastery. And they do the usual song and dance where they tell them all about their mission, and the monk freaks out because of how ugly Monkey is, but calms down because of how beautiful Tripitaka is. Tripitaka also calls Monkey ugly but useful, which is quite the back handed compliment.
Anyways the two are led into the Guanyin Chan Hall, and Tripitaka takes this opportunity to offer her his thanks and worship, while Monkey offers some accompanying music by ringing a bell. However, Monkey doesn't stop when Tripitaka does, and keeps striking the bell. When one of the Monks ask why he doesn't stop, Monkey says he's living by the proverb: "If you are a Monk for a day, strike the bell for a day!" Which considering how old Monkey is, will probably get old for everyone else real fast. Monkey ringing the bell obnoxiously pretty much managed to wake the whole Monastery, and they once again go through the whole 'Wah Monkey is so Ugly and Scary, but it's okay because he's with Tripitaka who is so Pretty and Unfrightening.'
So after that whole thing, they all sit down with the Head Monk for some tea and dinner. They have some casual conversation where Tripitaka once again explains their journey, and the Old Monk explains that he is two hundred and seventy- with Monkey jumping in to call him a young-in compared to him. Monkey really seems to enjoy bragging about his age and calling people his great-great-great-times a million- descendants or whatever. Eventually the conversation rolls around to treasures, with Tripitaka admiring the monk's tea and tea set. The monk then asks if Tripitaka has any rare treasures he can show him, with Tripitaka saying they don't really have much in the land of the east, and even if they did, Tripitaka wouldn't have been able to bring it with them. However Monkey chimes in saying that the cassock they got from Guanyin counts as a treasure and that he should show them it.
The monks thing this is hilarious that they would consider a cassock a treasure, and even make a point of it to bring out twelve fancy cassocks to show them. Monkey isn't impressed and wants to show them their cassock, but Tripitaka pulls him aside and says that they probably shouldn't start a contest of wealth with other people, and that the cassock might strike greed into the hearts of the monks. I find it interesting that this time it's Tripitaka warning Monkey about other people possibly being dangerous, usually it feels like the opposite with Tripitaka being the trustful one while Monkey is the one suspicious of others.
Regardless, Monkey tells Tripitaka to relax a little and that he will take responsibility, and before Tripitaka can stop him, he dashes off to fetch the cassock to show off to everyone. The old monk is of course very impressed with the cassock and asks if he can borrow it for the night to see it better and then return it tomorrow. Tripitaka is annoyed at Monkey for this whole situation, but Monkey still doesn't think it's a big deal and wraps up the cassock for the old monk to take.
So Tripitaka and Monkey are given a place to rest for the night, while the old monk starts crying over the cassock. The other monks ask him what's wrong, and he explains that eventually he will have to return the cassock to Tripitaka. Eventually one of the disciples says that if they want to keep the cassock the simplest solution would be to just murder Tripitaka and Sun Wukong. The old monk is delighted by this plan, and everyone starts gathering some knives and spears. However another monk points out that while stabbing Tripitaka to death would probably be easy enough, getting rid of Monkey might be a bit more difficult. So instead he suggests that they just set the rooms surrounding where Tripitaka and Monkey are staying on fire.
The old monk approves of this plan so they move forward with it. Unfortunately for them, prepping to set fire to a monastery isn't quiet and Monkey doesn't really sleep, just sort of meditates instead, so he hears them running around outside. Suspicious about all the noise, Monkey transforms into a bee to go take a look.
When Monkey see's that Tripitaka was right and that the monk's are planning to set the building on fire to steal the cassock, he debates beating them with his staff, but decides that they would definitely die if he did that and Tripitaka would be mad at him again. So instead he decides he'll let them carry out their silly plot, and instead just protect Tripitaka.
So Monkey makes a quick trip to heaven, startling the guards who think he's there to stir up trouble again, to borrow a Fire Repelling Cover from Virupaksa. Monkey explains the situation, and Virupaksa suggests he instead just use water to put out the fire, but Monkey explains that he only wants to protect Tripitaka and let everything else burn.
So Monkey gets the cover and returns to Tripitaka. He throws the cover over Tripitaka, the horse, and all their luggage. With that done he goes up to the roof and summons a wind to make the fire even stronger. So while the monks start freaking out and evacuating, Monkey stands guard where Tripitaka is while the rest of the monastery burns to the ground.
Eventually the fire manages to attract the attention of the local monster. Who upon noticing the fire at the monastery heads down to see if there's anything he can do to help, which is nice of him. However upon finding the Cassock, he forgets all about helping them and instead just takes it and leaves. Which was not nice of him.
After the fire burns out the monks are all scrambling trying to find valuables, or build shelter ect, while Monkey takes the Fire Repelling cover and returns it. Devaraja is pleased he's actually returning it, since if he didn't, it would be very difficult to try and make him, and invites him over to his place for a while. But Monkey explains that he's much more busy these days then he used to be, and has to go back to protect Tripitaka. And with that he returns to wake up Tripitaka.
So Tripitaka wakes up without incident and doesn't know anything is wrong until he opens the door to see the entire rest of the monastery burnt down. Tripitaka asks why Monkey only protected where they were resting instead of putting out the fire, and Monkey explains it was because the monks planed to burn them to death to steal the cassock. Tripitaka asks if he did this because they mistreated him, but Monkey says he isn't that petty, and that they were indeed the ones to set the fire... but he confesses to helping it along with some wind.
Tripitaka isn't exactly pleased about all this, and asks after the cassock and if it's been burned. Monkey claims the fire didn't reach where the cassock is and that it should be fine, but Tripitaka is rather grumpy about this whole situation and threatens to use the tight fillet spell if it's been damaged in any way. So Monkey, not wanting to be punished, starts demanding the cassock back from the monks. When the monks ask why Tripitaka and Monkey haven't burned to death, Monkey tells them to take a look at the hall where they were staying. Seeing how the hall is the only place completely unharmed, the monks come to the conclusion that Tripitaka is a god and Monkey is a celestial guardian.
So the monks go to the Old Monk and asks him to just give back the cassock. The Old Monk discovers that the Cassock is missing however, and since he doesn't know how to solve this problem, he bashes his own brains in instead. Yeesh. So the monks tell Monkey that the patriarch killed himself and that they can't find the cassock. So Monkey has them all line up so he can pat search them one by one, and search their belongings for it in case one of them stole it.
Tripitaka becomes more and more enraged that Monkey lost the cassock, so he begins to recite the tight fillet spell. The monks are terrified by this and start kneeling and pleading for mercy. Tripitaka stops the spell, and Monkey takes out his staff to kill the monks out of retribution. Luckily Tripitaka stops him by threatening to use the spell again if he harms people. Tripitaka then interrogates the monks, who tell him that this is all the old patriarch's fault. Not seeing the cassock anywhere, Monkey eventually thinks to ask if there are monsters in the area. So the monks tell them about the Black Great King who was acquaintances with the Patriarch.
So Monkey comes to the conclusion that the Black Great King must have stolen the cassock during all of the panic last night and asks Tripitaka to let him go get it. Tripitaka is still worried about being left without care and protection, but Monkey points out that Tripitaka is still being secretly protected by some gods and that he'll make some of the monks wait on him.
So Monkey warns the monks that they better not slack in Tripitaka's or the horse's care in any way, or else he'll smack them with his staff. And to show them just how big of a threat that actually is, he casually demolishes eight to nine walls with a single strike. So the monks are of course terrified by this and promise not to slack off in caring for Tripitaka in any way. And with that Monkey heads off to go get the cassock back, and we end this chapter of Journey to the West with @journeythroughjourneytothewest

A Selkie and a Gumiho Walk Into a... || Mona & Marcus
TIMING: current-ish. LOCATION: harborside, near marcus's lighthouse. PARTIES: @thenavysealkie & @thunderstroked SUMMARY: marcus sees something suspicious. mona is just trying to eat her fries. CONTENT: none!
Maybe Harborside wasn’t the best place for an electrically charged fox, but that didn’t stop her from visiting the coast. Growing up in Busan, and then later on moving to Dublin, Mona had become used to the water. The ocean had a calming aspect to it– one that, at most times, felt more welcoming than the dense copse of trees falling on the side of a highway, or up a mountain pass. She wasn’t naive enough to believe it could be her permanent reality given what she was capable of, but it didn’t stop her from admiring the way that the waves rolled over the shoreline. Today, however, she found regret in her adventure.
The chips she held onto tightly were being terrorized by the seagulls flying above her head. When one would dive, another would swoop, and she would hover over the styrofoam box, swatting above her head, hopeful that the birds would leave her alone. To no avail, they continued their attacks. They were normal seagulls as far as she could tell– nothing too odd about them. But they wanted her fries, and that was enough to piss her off. “Can you just fuck off?!” She swatted her hand again, catching the leg of one of the gulls, sending it in an awkward spin towards the ground, but it caught itself at the last moment, circling back around to try and grab at the paper lining. “Enough!” Mona shouted, a blue orb materializing out of thin air from her opened hand. It shot across the short distance to the bird, making it fall into the ground in a heap of charred feathers. She stared down at it, wrinkling her nose. It took her a moment to realize she was not alone. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw movement, and not the foamy kind.
It was mid afternoon and Marcus was doing his usual rounds. As the weather grew colder, there was less foot traffic on the beaches and therefore less litter. However, he still remained vigilant, not wanting even a single marine creature to be harmed by any garbage he could have picked up. After all, he knew first hand how terrifying it was to swim head first into a massive garbage pit.
He saw a group of gulls circling overhead, and wondered what they must all be convening by. Then he heard it, a woman’s voice. And she didn’t seem particularly pleased with the birds circling overhead, either. He heard her shout as multiple seagulls started dive bombing her. As he got closer, he saw that she was holding what he presumed to be a bag of chips or fries. He knew firsthand how relentless they could be once they spotted some food, and he hoped she could make it inside somewhere without too much more harassment from the birds.
Then…the unexpected happened.
A crack of lightning, and the smell of burning soon filled the air. One of the birds lay in a pile of burned plumage in the sand, as if some sort of vengeful god had smited the creature right out of the sky. But Marcus didn’t believe in that sort of thing, the reality he knew to be true was already far too strange. He moved closer and shifted his eyes over to the woman.
“Well uh…that’s one way to get the gulls to back off” he said awkwardly, knowing he had been spotted.
Mona nearly jumped out of her skin as the voice came near. She turned around, sizing up her company. They were significantly taller than herself, but that didn’t matter much. She wasn’t a fight first kind of girl, and she hoped she could maintain some kind of composure regarding the situation, or at least fake it.
“I’m not a killer, but he was asking for it.” She looked down at the charred bird and frowned. “Circle of life, right?” Not so much, Monathought, but she felt confident in her decision to strike the bird down. Maybe it’d teach its friends to not fuck around and find out.
Inhaling sharply, she popped another fry into her mouth and began to chew thoughtfully as she looked the person across from her up and down. “Where did you come from?” Water droplets formed on his arms and face, and behind him she could see something odd– like a heap of clothing, but it wasn’t clothing at all. It wasn’t anything she’d ever seen before.
“The water?” She sniffed at the air, the smell of salt water and brine filling her nose.
Marcus didn’t especially appreciate this woman’s blatant disregard for life. After all, how would she feel if someone came up and zapped her just for trying to eat? But he had to sympathize at least a little bit, those damn birds could get real annoying real fast.
“Not like you killed a person, I’m more concerned about the murder weapon though” he said, pointing to the woman’s hand. “Circle of life…” Marcus pondered, “I’m guessing that means you intend to eat the bird? Seems a bit burnt to me, but to each their own”. Much of this town was beyond what any person would deem normal. A person shooting lightning out of their hands didn’t even crack the top 10 of weirdest shit he’s witnessed. But that did mean the woman had some degree of magic, which he was hoping to possibly subtly sap away if he got the chance.
“I was just out for my morning swim,” Marcus said, taking an immediately more defensive tone. She seemed a bit suspicious of him, but figured she couldn’t come to any supernatural conclusion yet. After all, it’s not like she watched him change forms. It certainly wasn’t as if she saw actual lightning fly out of his hand, like what he witnessed with her.
She was eyeing his pelt. Did she know what it was? Maybe she’d think it was just some weird looking swimsuit? He didn’t know whether to hide it or act nonchalant, he definitely didn’t want to make her think it was anything out of the ordinary. But it looked exactly like what it was, a seal pelt. How many people casually carried those around at the beach?
“Let’s get off of what I’m doing here, though. Do you want to explain the little lightshow you just put on?”
Mona quirked a brow at his words. She wasn’t sure why it mattered. Weren’t seagulls an invasive species? Wasn’t she helping the community? The earth? Probably not. She really didn’t know, and she really didn’t care. It was a bird, and there’d be dozens more where it came from. She looked down at the charred gull, considering what it’d taste like. She’d figure that out later, if her company really insisted upon it.
“Not so much a murder weapon as it is a form of protection.” There was something off about the person standing across from her, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. “But to each their own.” Mona mirrored his words, a small smile pulling at the corners of her mouth.
She looked past him to the water. The temperature had dropped considerably over the weeks, and she could only imagine the freezing quality of the water. “In October? You’re not doing… what do they call it– the polar plunge?” She had a friend in Dublin who had participated in something like that in the middle of November. It was odd to watch.
He looked behind him towards something– the something on the ground. So it was important. She didn’t really care, not really. Mostly, she was annoyed that she’d been stopped. The question popped up again –
Do you want to explain the little lightshow you just put on?
Mona shrugged. The foxfire was a part of her, it was easy to explain, but to somebody who seemed a little too interested– that could mean danger.
“Static electricity?” Mona offered with a coy smile, popping another fry into her mouth. She wiped her hand off on the side of her pants. “Why does it matter? What would you want with it?” Because that was the angle here, wasn’t it?
As the woman in front of him explained her powers were only for protection, Marcus gave a slow nod. “Those beaks can be pretty sharp, I can see why you found it necessary to protect yourself.” he remarked, a bit condescendingly.
“Just don’t see that kind of thing every day, that’s all. I actually think it’s pretty cool, being able to bend lightning completely at will like that”, he offered, daring her to say outright that she had lightning powers.
“You’ve never heard of cold water swims?” He offered weakly, knowing no human would have the layer of protection his blubber offered him to keep them warm or even alive for long in freezing waters. He’d have to be a bit more careful about timing his swims in the future so nobody would catch him coming back from the water. And randomly approaching lightning benders probably didn’t help keep things low key, either. He took a step to the side, using his body to block the woman’s view a little more.
While Marcus didn’t particularly relish in his need to sap magic, William was no longer recharging the pelt for him. He had to find his own victims, as much as he disliked causing any harm to people. He thought back to what the woman had said just a few moments ago. Circle of life. He supposed he was no different after all.
“If you could come a little closer, maybe you could display your gifts a little more in detail for me. After all, it’s not every day you get a performance that’s so electrifying”.
He had to admit, he sucked at this whole “lying” thing. He’d have to get better, for his own sake. In the meantime, he hoped his natural charm and good looks would compensate for the actual words that left his mouth.
Mona rolled her eyes at his comment. “I was protecting my food.” She thought about bringing up the invasive species bit again, but what if this guy was some kind of science geek? Then she’d have to explain she was stupid, and she refused to do that. For right now, at least. Maybe she’d play the dumb girl card if she needed to.
As he spoke, Mona felt discomfort shoot through the scarring that elongated from her neck down her arm and shoulder. “It’s a little different than that.” Wasn’t so much lightning as it was something within her– a power she held and that was deeply rooted to her core. She didn’t expect this person to understand, especially if they were human. So far, there wasn’t anything indicating that they weren’t.
“So it is like the polar plunge, then.” She nodded as if it made the most sense in the world. Of course people would do something as stupid as that. She didn’t understand why somebody would want to be uncomfortable. She wasn’t lavish by any means, but she sure as hell didn’t go out of her way to crawl into tight spaces for the sake of some record. Mona barely noticed the side-step he made in an effort to block her view. She was too concerned with what he had seen and what he thought of it.
She wasn’t sure what he was trying to benefit from in seeing her abilities. She’d meant to send out an orb, but her abilities had their own way and sent a zap instead. It’d been her fault and she knew that, using them where others could have seen, but she hadn’t seen him. That was the problem. Mona ate another fry. “Is that some kind of…” Her brows furrowed as she tried to remember the term, “are you hitting on me? I am trying to enjoy my fries, and I’m sorry, but you’re not my type. I’m incredibly gay. Do you have a sister? Maybe we could hit it off and she could tell you what she saw and relay it back to you.” She popped another fry into her mouth.
This woman was hiding something, Marcus was sure of that. And it was something more than just her strange lightning power. He found it awfully bold of her to be playing coy after he literally saw lightning shoot from her hand like she was fucking Raiden from Mortal Kombat. Then again, it wasn’t as if he was trying to play the whole “out of sight out of mind” game with his pelt, so he had a bit of secretiveness of his own.
“A little different? I’d love for you to explain it then.” He was genuinely curious how the abilities worked, as he felt he never stopped seeing new things in this town. He had met all sorts of creatures, but a real life lightning bender was something different entirely. If it wasn’t the type of magic he could steal, he could at least walk away from the encounter with a very interesting story to tell. Not that he was low on stories from this town.
“You could call it…something like that. It helps open up your pores, it’s supposed to keep your skin from wrinkling. Gotta keep up these looks somehow”, he finished with an awkward shrug. He decided not to try and make up any further explanation, figuring the less he said the better off he would be.
The woman’s rejection was actually a bit welcome for Marcus, even though he was still a bit offended by it. Normally he was used to women throwing themselves at him and he would always have to be the one to drop the “I’m gay” bomb. This was a refreshing change of pace for him.
He chuckled a bit and said “No, not a come on at all. In fact, I’m also incredibly gay. And while I’d love to tell you I have a sister to set you up with, sadly I’m an only child. But maybe you have a brother?” he added, with a raised eyebrow. At this point, he was getting a tad sidetracked from the woman’s magic, but was starting to genuinely enjoy the company. He was also starting to relax a bit to the point where he stepped to the side a bit, enough to where his pelt came back into the woman’s line of sight.
The smell of the sea was too strong to discern any other scents. Mona did her best to appear unbothered by his request, but there were some faults in her expression as she ate another fry. Soon enough, they’d be gone and she’d actually need to speak. “What kind of explanation do you want? You believe in what you saw then, right?” She tilted her head to the side, gaze fixed on the space just behind him. Maybe he was hiding something from her. What could he possibly be hiding? Her mind ran through the possibilities.
As he explained the benefits of icy baths, Mona hummed under her breath. She knew some of those things to be true, but whether or not he was being truthful in telling her about them was a whole other thing. “That’s funny. It comes easy to me.” The being beautiful part, she didn’t bother to add. He’d figure it out, or he wouldn’t. It wasn’t her problem.
Mona picked up a fry, jutting it through the air at him. An expression of understanding peeled across her features as she nodded. “This somehow makes more sense.” It was a wonder he hadn’t tried to use his looks in order to get more information out of her on what he’d seen. Instead, he was asking bluntly. She scrunched up her nose. “I do, but I’m afraid they’re miles away from here, and we’re not really speaking at the moment.” Another fry into her mouth and she was closing the lid on the styrofoam box. He took a step to the side and on the ground was the unmistakable heap of something. It wasn’t like anything she’d ever seen before, but at the same time, it was familiar. She couldn’t put a finger on it.
It was clear he was trying to hide it from her. She pointed at it. “I’ll tell you my lightning stuff if you tell me what you’re hiding.”
Marcus had to admit, this woman was very confident. Even more so than he was, and that was saying something. Although he did have to admit, her habit of popping a seemingly endless supply of fries into her mouth while she spoke to him was starting to grate on his nerves a bit. Hadn’t anyone taught this young lady any manners?
“I believe in what I saw, yes. What I saw defies standard ‘logic’.”
“A pity, then. Maybe a decent looking cousin? Honestly I’m not too picky”, he added. While he longed for a companion that actually cared for him, long distance just wasn’t something that could work out. His many attempts during his service years were a testament to this.
With a sigh, he looked down at his pelt, now revealed to the woman’s line of sight. He had let his guard down again, something he was wont to do when he was engaged in a good conversation. Had it been intentional? Or was it merely a byproduct of a genuine conversation between two curious minds. Marcus decided to reveal who he was, hoping honesty would be met with honesty. After all, there weren’t many rangers in the world with lightning powers, so he figured his life would be safe. Besides, any hunter worth their salt would have immediately recognized his pelt and flash fried him by now.
“I think it’s clear both of us are more than what we seem. I’ll tell you what this is, but you have to promise not to tell another soul about it. There are some baaaad people in this town that can hurt me if they find out what I really am.”
Without speaking any further, Marcus took a deep breath, walked to the ocean’s edge and donned his pelt. Instantly, he could feel his body contour and bloat out. His now sausage shaped body flopped along the sand before reaching the water. He chanced a curious look back at the woman to try and gauge her reaction
Mona scrunched her nose. She had to admit, his humor was decidedly less on the side of annoying, and more something she could fill her day with– the back and forth banter, for one, was something she always enjoyed, especially with people whose names she didn’t know. “No cousins, but I’ve made a few friends who might seem your type.” She crossed her arms over her chest, gaze wandering to the heap behind him again. It was an odd thing, and it was out of place, she realized. She couldn’t quite place it, but it seemed like he cared about it, or at least cared about keeping it out of view.
He continued speaking, and the word promise hung in the air. She narrowed her eyes. He didn’t give off fae, but that didn’t mean anything to her, especially considering she couldn’t sense them in the slightest. He could be a nereid for all she knew. “And you don’t think they could hurt me, too? We’re on the same team here.” For now, at least, she didn’t bother to amend.
Before she could say much else, he was retreating to the heap of – what was it, a jacket? Mona watched in astonishment as the man pulled the fabric over his body, and before her very eyes, the human in front of her was replaced by a… seal? She stared at him, mouth slightly ajar, before she was lifting the heels of her hands into her eyes, rubbing at them. “I’m sorry, what?” She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. He had disappeared and been replaced by what, a seal? Could nereids do that? She wasn’t so sure. From her understanding, they only took some likeness from their cause, not full fledged identities.
“So you’re….” She didn’t know the name, “what are you?”
As the question was posed, Marcus could only bark in response, lifting his body upwards in the process. He made his way back to land and shifted back into his human form, assuming he had gotten his point across.
“Selkie. Seal man. People have a few different names for us. The long and short of it is, I’m a shapeshifter. This pelt,” he gestured, holding his pelt up for Mona to finally get a better look at “allows me to change into my seal form. My true form.”
He allowed a moment to pass for her to absorb his words. Even other people familiar with the supernatural had rarely heard of selkies before, so he figured it’d be best to give a more basic explanation.
“The pelts themselves…” he began, but decided against discussing the value of his pelts. Even if she wasn’t a hunter, she may know one that she could work with “they make me a target for some of the more…seedier people in town. So I don’t like revealing myself to everyone. But anyway, that’s my secret. Any particular reason you can toss around lightning like a Greek god?”
Mona couldn’t help but laugh at his explanation. “A– you’re a what?” It seemed silly, for a kitsune to mock that of another shifter’s existence, but it wasn’t so much mocking as it was just pure disbelief. She wasn’t sure what a selkie was, even if she had heard of them. Most of the time, she waved off the explanation. How did it make sense that a person could put something on, like a costume, and exist in that form? Everything else– there was a means of changing your body for it. Though, she supposed in the way that he had done so, there was truth to that, even if it wasn’t… as it was with her, or other shifters.
She looked towards the pelt in his hand, brows furrowed. She had questions, even if she wasn’t quite sure she believed what she was seeing.
He was talking about his pelt and how it made him a target and she couldn’t begin to wonder why he would carry it around so freely. Was it a connection to the water? She didn’t know of shifters having any special connection to anything like that. Even with her fire and lightning abilities, she didn’t feel particularly in tune with it, not in the way that a fae might describe.
Inhaling sharply, Mona kept her gaze on the pelt. “Uh, yeah, I’m a kitsune– wait, so you just put that on? Were you born in it? Did you like, come out of it like a cocoon?” She looked up to meet his gaze. “Can I touch it?”
The mention of kitsune piqued Marcus’s curiosity. He had seen sirens, at least the aggressively territorial ones from back home. He had also seen werewolves and encountered pretty much every type of fae under the sun. However, he had only heard of kitsune in passing. Truthfully, he knew essentially nothing about them other than that they were described as “fox people”.
“Kitsune, huh? Can’t say I’ve ever met anybody of your kind. It’s nice to meet you, he said, trying to keep his calm. He had no knowledge if kitsune and selkies were, historically speaking, on good terms with one another. Of course, he knew that didn’t mean much. He had fought with the sirens his kind were supposedly allied with, and he had also befriended werewolves and even some fae, who his kind are supposed to be at odds with.
“I was technically born with this,” he began, holding up his pelt for Mona to see. “But I couldn’t use it right away. I had to grow up and mature to learn how to use it. Most of my early childhood I was raised as just a regular human being. Once I was ready, I needed to learn how to charge the pelt with magic so that it would allow me to “merge” with it, if that makes sense. See, the pelt kinda works like a second skin almost. Only, instead of skin, it’s my entire body that changes to fit the pelt.”
He had always been raised to be fiercely protective of his pelt, and he had only recently gotten shared custody of his pelt back after having it stolen already. While he wanted to build good will with his new friend, he didn’t want to risk losing it again. He knew now not to let his guard down again.
“You can look, but it’s probably best if you don’t touch it. There’s a lot of energy running through here and I don’t know if it’ll react and hurt you if you’re not its usual owner. These things almost seem to have a mind of their own, sometimes.”
He then held the pelt out further and moved closer to Mona so that she could get a better look. He kept his grip tight, not wanting her to make a quick grab and run off with it.
“No, my name is Mona.” It occurred to her then that he was talking about what she was– she was far too distracted by the pelt in front of her to put much thought into their actual conversation now. Mona cleared her throat, gaze leveling with his. “But sure, it’s nice to meet you too, Selkie.” The name was reminiscent of something she’d definitely heard in passing, but not something she ever thought twice of. She thought they were something of folklore, but others would say the same of her, so who was she to minimize this person’s existence?
As he explained what the pelt did, or rather– how he used it, Monafound herself way more confused. It still made no sense, how somebody could be born something and have to learn how to use it. It wasn’t like her fox fire or lightning– this was very different. She couldn’t wrap her head around it. Half of what he spoke of seemed like lies, and most of it was so outlandish that Mona decided it had to be true. “So you weren’t born as that, and you had to use magic– you have magic?” The world was full of surprises. She arched a brow, gaze locked on the pelt, as if she were to look away, it might vanish into thin air.
Mona frowned slightly as he told her she couldn’t touch it. Then again, how would she feel if he tried to make off with her hoshi no tama? She could relate, in a sense. The pelt was important to him, even if she couldn’t quite understand how it worked. “Did you always know you were a selkie, then? Did your parents just spring it on you?” She’d always known she was a gumiho, she’d been raised as such, so the idea that this person might not know they were a shifter until they were ready was so confusing. “I don’t really understand it, if I’m being honest, but that doesn’t mean I’m doubting you.” Okay, so maybe a little bit. Mona crossed her arms over her chest and continued staring at the pelt, “can anyone be a selkie? Or is it just specific people? Could a human use this?” Finally, she lifted her gaze to meet his for verification of her question.
“My apologies, Mona. Very rude that I didn’t even introduce myself properly. My name is Marcus, not selkie.”
He wasn’t exactly sure how to respond to her next question. The pelt had magic, certainly. It just wasn’t his magic, per se. “I always knew I came from a long line of seal people. My mother taught me early on how she manages her powers and cared for her pelt and that I would have to do the same one day. My first time transforming was…difficult. But the body gets used to it after so many times. As for the magic…” He took a pause. Clearly the woman he was speaking to had some degree of magic, and may not be keen on him having to steal magic to keep his pelt charged. She may even be fearful that he’d try to steal magic from her. Of course, that was originally the idea he had in approaching her, but she didn’t need to know that. “It’s borrowed from other sources. A little bit from a meddlesome fae playing tricks on people or a spellcaster setting fires serves to feed my pelt and keep the town safe all at the same time.”
While he did try to steal from those who deserved it, he did end up stealing from the innocent and unsuspecting more often than not. Those who were more mischievous and threatening with their powers tended to guard their magic much more effectively.
“Others can steal the pelt and drain its magic, which is part of why they fetch a high price. Some can even use it to restore the powers to a magic user who had theirs stolen before. But only another selkie can wear the pelt and transform into a seal. Well, you can also turn into something similar like a sea lion or walrus, but the seal appearance is the more “traditional” appearance.” He thought back on William and how desperate he must have been to track him down and steal his pelt just to restore his own powers. Marcus also remembered how desperate he was when he was without his pelt for nearly 3 months.
“The highest profits come from other selkies, actually. Those who have lost their pelts or had theirs stolen. Those who are in the peak of their withdrawals. You see, our seal form is almost like our true selves. And without it, there are a lot of physical and mental drawbacks. We can even die if left without our pelts for too long. Unfortunately, thefts and damages to pelts from hunters has lead to a great deal of infighting and mistrust amongst other selkies. Not enough pelts to keep everyone alive, basically.”
He had probably gone a bit too in depth, but if Mona wanted information he figured he may as well give it to her. He also wanted to keep talking so that they could skirt over the “stealing magic” topic as smoothly as possible.
“Mona and Marcus, M&M, we could be best pals, you know.” Besties, if Monabelieved any of what he was actually saying. She still couldn’t believe it, but the proof was right in front of her, and she knew she had to believe it because a shifter was a shifter, no matter how you spun it. Even if lamias were created out of a curse in their bloodline, at the very least they didn’t have to put something on. It still felt like a mockery, and Mona wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
Marcus continued to explain and Mona stayed silent, doing her best to piece it all together. She couldn’t remember her parents ever discussing selkies, but then again, they hadn’t had much to discuss with her anyway. Her friends back in Ireland, however– they seemed far more knowledgeable with this stuff. Mona wondered if Inge knew what selkies were and made a mental note to ask. Maybe Felix knew a thing or two, as well. She could ask them questions instead of being invasive. Then again, that never really stopped her from asking the questions she had.
Though, the mention of magic seemed to put Marcus on pause. She wasn’t sure why. Maybe it was a sacred thing, something like her hoshi no tama. But then he was explaining he didn’t have magic, and that it was both fae or spellcaster magic that kept his pelt charged? It was all so weird. In her seventy something years, she’d never heard anything like it. It wasn’t like she was refusing the story or the history that Marcus brought to the table, but she was having a hard time digesting the idea that somebody could just try something on and recharge it with magic that wasn’t even theirs to begin with.
She had so many questions, but she tried to do her best to let Marcus speak. What was the use in interrupting him? Especially when she had no idea on where to start and with what questions. “So it’s… gatekeeping you, sort of.” She wasn’t sure if that was the right word, but she had heard it used a time or two, “or gaslighting–?” A puzzled expression peeled over her features and she shook her head, tucking her hair behind both her ears before her hands came to rest around either side of her neck. “I believe you and I don’t, but only because it’s so different than anything… and the magic bit, the part where you siphon it, that…” It left her uneasy to say the least, “I’m not really sure I understand that at all.” At least she was in the clear– her powers weren’t really magic, they just were.
“Like, I just eat ghosts to sustain myself, but I don’t– I mean, I eat other things. I really like tacos.” She scrunched her nose before letting out a breath. “Okay, Marcus. Let’s say I believe you and your little pelt story.” She’d seen it with her own eyes, but she still felt like there was something missing, “I’ll keep your secret if you keep mine, obviously.” She extended a hand, eyes narrowed with faux suspicion. He had a lot to lose, and it was obvious. She hadn’t divulged nearly as much as he had.
M & M, Marcus didn’t exactly hate the sound of it. After all, in a town like this, friends were very valuable resources. Yet this friend didn’t seem all too familiar with how her abilities worked, and also didn’t seem to show much interest in figuring it out.
“Hmmm, I guess gatekeeping would be a decent way of putting it. Can’t have my powers unless the pelt wants to cooperate with me. Sometimes, if you’re pelt isn’t charged and you can’t use it for a long time, it feels like when people get withdrawals from coming off some kind of vice. Except, instead of the symptoms getting better over time, they continue getting worse. So you could say it’s kind of essential for everyone to keep a hold of.”
“Basically, the pelt uses magic to mold itself and transform. But there’s no inherent magic in the pelt itself. So it has to come from somewhere, you know?”
Sometimes when he spoke of selkie pelts he felt as if he were attributing to them a mind of their own. And sometimes, it felt as though they had a mind of their own too.
“You…eat ghosts?” Marcus asked incredulously. He had only dealt with the ghost of the old man in the lighthouse previously, he didn’t know they could be eaten. Couldn’t they phase through shit? Wouldn’t they be able to just…walk out of her?
“Glad to hear my secret’s safe with you…but for real you eat ghosts? Because that could be really useful down the line some time. There’s a lot of spooky things hanging around here and not all of them can be handled with a knife.”
“Your secret is, of course, safe with me. Folks like you and me have to stick together and look out for each other after all. I’d keep a low profile if I were you though, which means cool it with the light shows” he said, gesturing back up at the sky.
The explanation that Marcus put into his pelt should have reassured Mona that she wasn’t being fucked with, but there was still something strange. “In a way, I can understand that.” It was the closest she’d get to admitting that there was something she was guarding, too. There was no use in going into the details, especially considering how she wasn’t sure where to start. Besides, she was sure if he really wanted to do more, he could research it himself.
Marcus went on further and Mona’s brows furrowed. She tried to align everything, tried to make it perfect and pretty– to make it make sense, but she still wasn’t quite sure how something without magic could need magic, especially a shifter. Mona decided silently that she’d do her own research. “Your pelt is magic, got it.” She wasn’t sure that’s what he was trying to say, but it was what she landed on anyway.
At his question, she nodded. “Only the non-aggressive ones, and not like, poltergeists.” She shivered, thinking about the number of spirits she’d left in her wake after realizing they were a little too big for her appetite. “I eat ghosts, I eat fries, I like to eat fish, too. You’re a seal, you can understand that.” At least she was agreeing that he was a seal– that was a good start.
Mona smiled at his extension of understanding and nodded. “I’m glad that we met, even if I’m not sure I believe you.” So much for giving in to the reality of their situation, “but I’m sure I will overtime. Do you do tricks, like at the circus? Is that rude?” She paused, face relaxing slightly, “how about we talk more about it over fries? I’ll get you your own.”
“Well Mona,” said Marcus, “at least we’re a little bit closer to an understanding. It isn’t magic itself, but it uses it.”
Marcus pondered, if she didn’t eat dangerous ghosts did she just eat the poor souls who were stuck here without a way to be laid to rest. Furthermore, what happened to a ghost that was eaten? Is it fully conscious inside her stomach, do they pass on to whatever afterlife there is, or do they just cease to exist completely? He didn’t want to think on it too long. Those types of thoughts always filled him with existential dread.
“I do like fish, although when I’m not in the water I do prefer them cooked. But eating a scallop or oyster fresh from the seafloor is an experience most people can only dream of. I mean, talk about a fresh catch”.
“Can’t say I’ve ever tried doing tricks”, he laughed at the question. He wasn’t offended, more amused at the idea of balancing a ball on his nose while a bunch of onlookers surrounded him, enjoying the show. “But yes, I’d love to talk with you more about it. And I just so happen to know a really good spot to go for fries, too!”

“ wow, ” he deadpans in his usual droll cadence, as if addressing the fluctuating metropolitan weather and not the confession precursor he just served goro alongside his very elaborate coffee order, “ the detective prince strikes again, busting the case wide open. ” it’s just the two of them this time around: the boss is off on an errand to the nearest pharmacy before closing, searching for some ultra-specific medicine for the mystery bug futaba happened to catch, likely at the arcade, and akira’s not expecting him back for at least another thirty minutes. even mona’s technically absent, blessedly asleep upstairs, and it’s precisely these coinciding absences that prompted akira’s proposition in the first place. he never would’ve gotten away with being this brazenly overt, otherwise. doubts goro would’ve even acknowledged it.
“ i wasn’t sure if you were picking up my hints. so you were just ignoring me? ” if it’s goro’s intent to put him off with what must be mockery at this point, they find themselves in a very unfortunate predicament. “ i’m anticipating a hefty tip as emotional recompense. ”

mona whatttttt helloooooo you are such a gift i was not expecting another fic so soon! (even though i am slightly scared of the angst) I would love to know what your writing process is like. you’re awesome 💗
Anon, you are far too kind, thank you so much. 🥹
Honestly, I wasn't expecting to write another fic so soon either, but then again, most of my work is never planned ahead of time, it just spirals out of an idea that pops up in my head that I simply can't stop thinking about. Which is a pretty good summary of what my writing process typically looks like.
Inspiration and motivation to write has a tendency to strike me out of nowhere. A lot of my fics exist because I've been listening to a song when I'm walking to or from work, and a Lestappen idea just plants itself in my brain and refuses to leave until I write the damn thing. And once I get an idea and feel motivated to write it, I do just that: I just sit down and start writing, with about 10-20% of the fic planned out ahead of time while the rest just happen as I go along. When I wrote Devils Roll The Dice (Angels Roll Their Eyes), I only had the major events of the fic planned out ahead of time. Everything else just happened as I was writing.
Depending on how much time I have and just how inspired I feel, sometimes I finish a fic in one sitting, whereas other times I need days or even weeks to finalize it. What type of fic I'm writing also impacts how long it will take to finish. What I struggle with writing the most and what takes the longest for me is actually smut. Angst and fluff has a tendency to flow more easily, while smut often has me sitting there, just staring at my screen for ages.
I also usually write chronologically, as in I start at the beginning and then work my way towards the end. It's very rare for me to write random parts for the fic and then put everything together at the end as my brain simply does not work well if that's the way I'm trying to write. The only exception was of course the collab I did with @f1writingbyme, 19 Times The Grid Saved Lestappen (And One Time They Didn't Need To), but then again, that was a fic that didn't really need to be written chronologically, as it consisted of many smaller individual parts that in most cases could be put anywhere in the fic.
So yeah, that is a little insight into my writing process! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
You are absolutely wonderful, anon, thank you so much for this ask. ❤️

Counterattack, elbow to back of neck
I'm listening, I just think it's a little one-dimensional. I'd prefer a color-coordinated approach with tones that work well together, you know?
Roll with the blow, spring up into crouching position, fire laser again
What, like complementary coloured stripes? Polka dots? Some kind of mural or graffiti-style thing? The base wall color is like the canvas for the rest of your decorating decisions! You take your solid orange and use it as a backdrop; you don't want it distracting from the rest of the room.
Foul aim slightly by pulling curtain in front of self; fling newly ignited fabric forward
Now who's not being fun? Honestly, if you can't make your decor stand out against a basic wave pattern you're not trying hard enough.
The flaming curtain parts in two around a vertical sword stroke, which is swiftly followed by a lunging feint and slash
Look, it's just not how I prefer to do things. Sure you can differentiate against a complex paint job, but it limits what you can do and ruins any attempt at subtlety. Like, have you ever tried placing flower arrangements in a room with a multi-toned paint job? Total disaster.
Multiple harried backsteps, ending with a defensive posture and back literally to the wall
Okay well that's another conversation about differing use cases, frankly. I'm not trying to showcase a carefully placed set of carnations, I don't want solid orange walls. Besides, wouldn't a color like that wash out the flowers anyway?
Multiple probing strikes, failing to penetrate the defense. A hand goes for the laser again.
Well it depends what flowers you're using. It provides a great contrast to white and purple arrangements, and to a lesser degree green and blue. Even works for pink if you set it up right. You can kinda substitute the backdrop color instead of using warm toned flowers you'd usually need for balance.
A sudden dash forward, snatching the laser device just as it's unholstered. The dash becomes a sustained run towards the newly curtainless window, interrupted only to use the device to turn a large machine in the room's centre to useless slag
I'm having a hard time picturing it; truth be told I'm not exactly familiar with flower arranging. Do you have any examples, or a portfolio or something?
A button is pressed; metal shutters come down on the window and every other possible exit.
I can try to whip up something for your holding cell. It'll be nice! You'll appreciate what solid orange walls can do after a while, promise.
The laser melts a hole in the shutter. It's barely large enough for a person to pass through without touching the white-hot molten metal at the edges.
Mm, I think I'd like to see pictures or tour the space before committing. Maybe observe how the overall presentation interacts with my personal effects.
As a last-ditch effort, a rapier flies through the air with uncanny straightness and accuracy
Oh, you can't bring in outside stuff, totally spoils the look. You wouldn't doodle on the Mona Lisa, would you?
Half of the still smoking curtain is swiftly grabbed and whirled around in the air, sending the rapier to the ground. The hero dives through the hole in the shutter, fabric surrounding their body and burning in place of their flesh
Ah, then I really must pass. I'd probably go stir-crazy within a week without some ability to redecorate. I'd still love to see, though! Maybe next time I need to rescue someone from the dungeons. Looking forward to it!
The villain looks between the melted shutter, the even more melted remains of their doomsday machine, and the flaming drapes. They sigh and return to comparing paint swatches.
Mm, maybe this one with violets...
Instead of a stoic hero and a chatty villain or a chatty hero and a stoic villian imagine if they’re both chatty. Just, the villian trying their best to kill the hero while the two of them have a in-depth discussion about their opinion of pumpkin spice

AETHER quickly pulls you into a hug, stroking your head while a jumble of questions spill out of his mouth. if you're unwilling to answer, he doesn't pressure you, but he remains embracing you until you calm down.
ALBEDO envelops you in a warm hug, his blonde strands of hair tickling the top of your head. "i don't know why you're upset..." he murmurs while entwining his hands with yours, "but studies have shown hugs can make people feel better, and that's what i want for you."
AMBER freaks out, cupping your face with her gloved hands and pressing her forehead against yours to remind you that she's always there for you. she even lets you cuddle baron bunny, although she pretends to be upset later that you like the stuffed toy more than her.
AYAKA rarely deals with outbursts like this as the representative of the kamisato clan, so she's not entirely sure what to do. however, she sits beside you gracefully, holding your hand tightly and squeezing it every few minutes as a wordless reassurance that she is there for you.
lightning flashes, thunder booms and the sky begins to darken when BAAL sees you like this. the electro archon wants nothing more than to strike down those who hurt you, but she won't leave your side until there's a smile on your face once more - there's no point in eternity without you.
BARBARA is wonderful at consoling you, and she hugs you warmly before beginning to sing a gentle song, petting your head as you lay in her lap. her voice is mellifluous and comforting, and you drift off to sleep as she presses a kiss on your head, reminding you that tomorrow will be a better day.
at first, BEIDOU may not realise how seriously sad you are, inviting you to come drown your sorrows in some drinks with her. but after noticing how you decline, she crouches beside you and tells you that, "there's no treasure in the sea a pirate could find that's more precious than you are to me."
BENNETT worries that his bad luck has brought you misfortune, but when you manage to mumble out that it isn't his fault, he still sticks right by you. while he's too nervous to touch you and make things worse, he grins widely at you and thanks you for staying with him even when things were rough - "you're the best member of benny's adventure team, and my good luck charm!"
upon seeing you, CHILDE'S mind instantly flashes to every single one of his enemies that could have hurt you, and while he dashes to wrap you in a hug, his thoughts rush to ways to murder those who dared to hurt you. his chin balances on top of your head while his long arms surround you, keeping you warm and seemingly blocking out all your negativity.
CHONGYUN gets very worried, and though he isn't the best at comforting, he lets you bury your head in his shoulder and cry your eyes out. for once, the proximity doesn't make him heat up, because he's far too concerned for you to worry about that. he also offers you an icy popsicle, because that's how he usually cheers himself up, and he wants you to be happy again.
DAINSLEIF panics, but he doesn't show it as he dashes to your side like a heroic knight. he isn't sure how to handle situations like this, so he awkwardly pats your back and says, "you're strong enough to get through this. i... may not believe in gods, but i have faith in you." his starry coat swirls around you both like a blanket, and even though the gestures of comfort feel alien to him, he hopes you know he's trying his best.
DILUC trembles, hand reaching for his vision as white-hot anger rushes through him. but he recalls that you're the priority, and wraps his arms around you. the scent of his cologne surrounds you, and you bury your head in his chest - he doesn't mind when you wet his shirt, and he murmurs a soft "i love you," in your ear as a caring reminder.
in DIONA'S mind, a million alarm bells are going off, and her ears prick up as she hisses under her breath at the thought of someone harming you. to you directly, however, she mixes your favourite drink and offers it to you, muttering, "i hope you like the drink... please feel better soon. though it's not like i care!"
EULA runs to your side, elegance forgotten in the fear clouding her mind that something has happened to you. she isn't very keen on physical affection due to her upbringing as a noble, but now she throws away her hesitation and hugs you while vowing, "i will exact vengeance on whoever hurt you!"
FISCHL cannot find it in her to burst into a monologue when she sees your huddled figure. her gloved hand traces your cheek, and trails a stroke down your hair. oz perches on your shoulder, his ticklish feathers ruffling your cheek, and when you look up at her, the prinzessin offers you a small smile, "as royalty, you're my favourite subject."
GANYU drops all the paperwork she's been carrying, the sheets flying into the air like snow. she couldn't care less about them though, as she plops down beside you, tilting your face to hers with worry glimmering in her eyes. realising you're not hurt, she exhales a sigh of relief and hugs you with a whisper, "i'm here for you."
GOROU is by your side in the blink of an eye, a low growl escaping his throat as he scans your surroundings. his ears are flattened, and his arms are thrust protectively around you. upon sensing the lack of danger, he nuzzles into your cheek, his hair caressing your cheek - he doesn't need words to let you know he loves you.
HU TAO is actually very good at comforting you, though her playful demeanor makes her seem like the opposite. she lets you cry till it feels like your tear ducts are dry, and then she starts cracking jokes. they're stupid, and half don't even make sense, but they put a smile on your face, and when she notices your expression, she grins, "there you are."
JEAN isn't the dandelion knight and acting grandmaster for no reason, she's immediately beside you, uttering sweet words which sound like honey. barely a minute passes and she's already mopped up your tears and helped you calm down with soothing advice and reminders. she even lets you cry onto her shoulder if you'd like, without a word of complaint even when her uniform sleeve is stained with tears.
KAZUHA hugs you tightly, the type of hug which feels like he's never going to let you go, the type of hug which feels like you're going to be okay, that things will get better. even his fountain of poetic speak dries up now as he pulls you impossibly closer, "you will be okay, and you'll come out of this stronger than before."
KAEYA can relate all too well to your predicament, he sees himself in your tears and shaking figure. so, he held you the way he's always wanted to be held, with your head in the crook of his neck as you sob quietly. for once, he doesn't make any sly, flirty comments, he stays silent as you cry. but once you've calmed down, he teases you by using his vision to make his hands, which are still holding you, freezing cold.
while KEQING may primarily be a busy woman in charge of running the nation, that doesn't mean she doesn't know how to handle emotional issues. she sits beside you, one hand sliding to hold yours as she starts telling you about her day to get your mind off the problem. it works, and when you've calmed down, she's the perfect person to get advice from about your troubles.
KLEE is quite confused, but she does her best to make you feel better. "hey, would you like a hug? my mom always says those help put a smile on anybody's face! or maybe we could go fishblasting? that definitely makes klee smile! klee wants you to smile again, so let's go!"
a small hydro fish wiggles in front of your nose, and you already know that KOKOMI is in the room with you. as she kneels down beside you, her hand cups your cheek, and her sea blue eyes, shining with concern, meet yours. a small smile curves her lips, "you're so strong, you know that? i'm proud of you."
LISA pulls you into a hug, placing her chin on your head as she rubs comforting circles onto your back. she never says a word as you sob into her torso, but once you've cooled down, electro energy begins to fizz around her fingers, "so, who did this to you?"
LUMINE silently sits beside you, one arm wrapping around your shoulder to pull you close, letting you lean against her for stability as you cry your eyes out. it's not much, but she doesn't move, and honestly that helps remind you that she isn't going to leave you alone. she's also a very good listener to vent to, as she will never interrupt, and only offer advice if asked to.
when MIKO caught you, you thought she would laugh at you. however, her reaction was the polar opposite, as she made you a cup of tea and sat beside you before beginning to read a book. once your sniffles had quietened down, she turned to you, "now, would you like to talk about it? i've got the next millenium to listen."
MONA is quite awkward in terms of dealing with people, distancing herself from people due to her status as an honourable astrologer didn't do much for her social skills. however, with you, she crouches beside you and pats your head, "are you okay?" she's even kind enough to spend her hard-earned money on you, and she's always strapped for cash, "hey, i just got some money. would you like to go out and eat? my treat."
NINGGUANG may be the tianquan, but you will always come first, you're just that important to her. when she sees you crying, she tilts your face upwards and swipes her thumb across your cheek to dry your tears. she then proceeds to hug you and pat your back, "you know you can tell me anything, right? also if you want anything that might make you feel better, just say the word and i'll buy it."
NOELLE sits down beside you, placing the basket of laundry she was carrying on her other side. she hugs you, and the warmth you feel chases away your last remnants of sadness. it's even better when she says she'll cook your favourite dish to help cheer you up, noelle would do anything if it meant you would feel better.
QIQI has zero clue what to do, so she crouches beside you and just... stares at you for a few minutes. however, the next moment, she extends one hand and pets your head, "qiqi wants y/n to smile. come, qiqi will take y/n to look at finches. finches make qiqi happy. qiqi hopes they make y/n happy too."
RAZOR nuzzles into your cheek and neck, his fuzzy hair and hood tickling you and prompting a laugh to escape your lips. he looks up at you inquisitively, tilting his head before saying, "y/n, don't be sad. razor... go hunt meat for y/n. y/n is razor lupical." razor hopes you can understand what he's trying to tell you, because he wants to help you in any way he can.
although distant to everyone else, ROSARIA actually pats your back and stays beside you while you cry. she doesn't say anything, because she isn't that good with comforting words unlike all the other nuns, but she stays. and her unmoving presence is enough to send you into tears all over again, because she mutters a promise to you, "i won't leave, no matter what."
SARA is definitely not the best at displaying affection, but for you, she always puts in as much affection as she can. when she sees you crying, anger causes her to clench her fist, but she hides it and rushes to your side to give you a warm hug, pressing her cheek against yours, "you're not alone, okay?"
SAYU is clueless as to what to do to comfort someone, so instead she just grabs your hands and says, "come on, let's go have a nap. people always think clearer after they sleep on it." she doesn't mean to be blunt, she just genuinely thinks that sleeping will help you think of other solutions to your problems.
SCARAMOUCHE starts cursing loudly and threatening murder at the top of his voice, it's likely that people on the other side of teyvat could hear him. after proclaiming how he's going to murder whoever did this to you, he rushes to your side and hugs you tightly. it's a hug which conveys everything he can't say out loud, 'i hope you're okay.'
SUCROSE is very distressed, as she plops beside you and starts fidgeting with her fingers while her other hand massages repetitive motions onto your back. after a minute, your sobbing is unbearable for her, because she hates you being sad, so she tries to distract you by talking about alchemy. spoiler alert, it works, but the combination of her voice and the rhythm of her massage caused you to fall asleep in her lap.
THOMA is the number one fixer in inazuma, and this applies to emotional problems too. in the snap of a finger, he's prepared your favourite food, a tissue box and his attention, in case you'd like to rant to him. he's always willing to listen, and most of the time his advice is actually quite good, and he also gives great hugs.
when VENTI sees you sad, his archon side takes over. instead of just being mischievous, he also becomes more understanding and caring. he lets you lie on his lap, humming the melody to your favourite song softly while his hands stroke your head. when you've calmed down, he's also skilled at making silly faces to try and get you to laugh.
XIANGLING disappears after shoving guoba in your arms and telling you he's great for hugging when you're sad. a minute later, though, she reappears with a brand new plate of your favourite food, whipped up by her specially for you. she'll feed you so that you're too busy eating to worry about crying, and soon enough your sadness is chased away by the amount of love she adds into her cooking.
XIAO is definitely not the best at dealing with emotional situations, but he's been reading up on how to interact with mortals. so when he sees you like this, his first instinct is to hug you, which he does. when you sob into his shoulder, he's not sure what to do, so he pets your head before whispering so softly you can barely hear it, "you've defeated far worse things than this, and you will continue to be the strongest mortal i know. i believe in you." he also polishes his polearm in case he needs to break his 'no harming mortals' rule.
XINGQIU lets you lean on his shoulder and cry, and he also keeps one arm around your torso as a symbol of how much he cares for you. with his other hand, he reads his current favourite novel out loud to you, and if you're lucky, he'll even go off on a tangent about how he would have written this scene if he was the author, as well as explain almost every scene in painstaking detail. by the time he's done, your head will be spinning so much you won't have any energy to waste on being sad.
XINYAN hugs you and strokes your back as you sob. she's moderately hot thanks to her pyro vision, so a hug from her is the definition of a warm hug. she even strums her guitar while singing the lyrics to your favourite song softly, like an acoustic cover of it which helps you relax and realise that maybe your problems weren't as big as they first seemed.
YANFEI lets you lie down in her lap, gazing up at her with tears glittering in your eyes. whether or not you're still sobbing, yanfei holds your hands with a reassuring smile and starts narrating her day, going into detail about all the interesting cases she's done before. and if she sees you getting sleepy, tired after all that crying, she starts reciting liyuean law, which of course sends you off to dreamland in seconds.
YOIMIYA is full of energy, but when she sees you sad it's almost like all that energy got zapped out of her in a second. she's by your side immediately, cupping your cheeks and checking you all over to see if you're hurt while speaking a million sentences a minute. it would be overwhelming if it wasn't just her way of showing how worried she is for you. that night, you can be sure yoimiya releases a custom firework just for you, in the shape of a smiley face in your favourite colour.
ZHONGLI may have lived for centuries, but as a mortal he is at a loss for what to do in a situation like this. however, he tries his best, and lets you lie on him wherever you choose; be it his shoulder, lap or chest. he's very attentive to what you want, so if you want a tissue he'll fetch it immediately, and he does anything you want until you calm down. it's adorable to see, honestly.

Sooo, I hope you don't mind, feel free to ignore this if you want, but Kazuha and Diluc are saying smth.
I started playing at the beginning of Kazuha's 1st banner last year and I somehow got Kazuha on 40 pulls. So not only extremely early, but also a won 50/50.(I was extremely grateful after I actually learned about pity and all that jazz). Sadly, after him, I never won a 50/50 again, which ig is just bad luck until I saw a couple coincidences that were a tad bit too sus. The next character I tried to pull was Raiden(makes since why Kazuha wouldn't want her on the team lol), but I got Keqing. Ofc, that sounds like smth normal, until you take into account that at the time my favorite element was electro and I really wanted Keqing at the time, cuz her playstyle is fun, despite the low dmg. After that mainly Diluc came again and again, more onto that later(Mona also managed to slip through once lol). Speeding up a little, we come to Klee and Kazuha banner. I do a 10 pull, knowing I'd get a 5 star and really wanted Klee, but I knew that I probably won't get her, so I didn't get my hopes up. Apparently Kazuha heard my decided to be nice this time and gave me Mona first and then Klee back to back in the same pull(I ain't complaining), but then I do another 10 pull on his banner. 6 pity. On the 6th pull this little mf came home, making him officially my first AND second won 50/50 AND the first limited 5 star to have a constalation.
Now, as for Diluc. I originally got him first on standard banner, and he hasn't stopped coming home since. The only 2 50/50 that weren't Filuc were 2 Mona and 1 Keqing. Over all on different accs and friends acc he has come home to me when pulling 7 times in total. Not only that, but when I got Keqing on standard and I was a bit bummed that it wasn't Diluc, cuz I wanted his cons, 3 pulls later he strolls in like he owns the place. And one more thing. I have a side acc for when I tried the 1st character I get I main thing and I did the free 10 pull you get at the start of the game and guess what. The very first pull on the standard banner was Diluc. He also came along with Sara, cuz he knew I would need a bow user early game and that I don't like overlapping elements so early on, cuz I actually need the others. He made sure he was staying.
Aaand that should be all. Again, feel free to ignore if doesn't strike your fancy and I'm sorry, for making you read through all of this TvT
Note: I hope this is what you wanted :D Also!! please share the Diluc luck. I havem't gotten him on my main nor ult account </3 Diluc... please come home

When Kazuha felt a pull, unfamiliar but so SO warm, he welcomed the golden star that crashed down from the sky. Your presence was… an experience. He had to get used to being a vessel, but no stories in Teyvat could describe that magical feeling you radiated.
Before he knew it, the two of you had fallen into a routine. You’d awaken and do these small tasks all over Teyvat. And as insignificant they seemed to him, it was something that belonged to your routine, and as an extension, to his.
After a while, you started to rain down meteors again. He can't help but feel anxious. Your presence was still there but it was getting awfully close to the Shogunate.
Kazuha knows what he did was wrong, but it doesn't stop him. He tugs your presence towards him and away from the Shogun.
When the golden star flies down from the skies it lands further away than planned. The next thing he remembered is the proud expression on the Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing’s face.
It’s been like that for a year now. Members come and go but Kazuha usually persists. Because of this, he’s gotten to know you better as well. Sometimes, even if it’s his imagination, he hears you talk to him. It’s never a long conversation but he supposes it to be his own fault. After all, he cannot talk back.
During one of your conversations with him, he heard you mention something new. You wanted Klee. ]
During the Iradori Festival, he had gotten to know the little girl. She had a pyro vision and seemed to make you happy with her energetic behavior. So- when he saw the golden star fall down he tried his hardest to make your wishes come true. When he saw Mona glow up he frowned. Had it not been enough?
A moment later he realized he'd been impatient. The small girl seems to pop up out of nowhere with a golden glow similar to Mona's. Two golden stars falling at the same moment is extremely rare, but the look on your face was worth the trouble he went through.
After that, Kazuha looks up hoping to catch your gaze in the sky. He feels your presence near him. You’re there somewhere right? Are you proud of him? Can you see how happy you make him?
When another golden star flies down towards the group he welcomes the feeling with open arms.
He hears your voice,
“Welcome home, Kazuha.”
Tumblr media
Diluc knew how rough the world could be. From the moment that first star flew towards Dawn Winery, he felt like he found his purpose. Though, at times he felt like he’s experienced a moment like this before. It all feels like a distant dream but he tries his hardest to chase that feeling, and thus, you.
He doesn't feel bad about it either.
The knights of Favonius have enough on their hands. Surely, he’s a better candidate than Jean, and he’s definitely more fit than that small child with the cryo vision. Can't you see? He's doing you a favor.
When you're near, he tries his hardest to prove how strong he is. Diluc knows you like him too so him chasing after you is not a bad thing, right?
If you ever frown when he comes home it might hurt him for a moment, but only for that one moment.
It's never enough to stop him from chasing after you.
Tumblr media
Good luck. You’re never getting rid of these two.

Random Imagines [Genshin Impact - girls]
[ boy edition ]
- qiqi’s, klee’s & diona’s are all platonic
nervously shifting her legs on the ground, amber shyly presents you a plushie version of yourself that looks similar to the design of baron bunny. she bit her lower lip in pure nervousness as she imagines worst-case scenarios if you didn’t like it. gulping mentally, she nervously smiles as she takes a peek of your expression before looking down again. “happy anniversary.” she quietly said, hoping to herself that you’ll like the gift and that her mind finally calms down.
ayaka smiles as she takes a sip of her tea right outside her house with her beloved by her side, the sakura tree’s petals fluttering around them wonderfully, making the atmosphere more romantic. it's been a while since she last spent her time with you, so she makes sure that it’s spent with zero interruptions. turning to you as she started the conversation with a sweet, serene smile on her face. listening to you starting to ramble on about a topic that interests you, with a look of admiration present in her face.
feeling thankful that you saved her from the crowd of fans, barbara guided you to a secluded area where she often visited to have peace and quiet. she lets you rest your head on her lap as she softly hums a tune, which slowly switches to an actual song. a concert exclusively for her biggest fan with no worries of being judged. smiling if you join in on her singing, even if your voice isn’t as good as hers, she considers your voice divine like the anemo archon.
laughing lightly as she noticed her significant other getting tipsy after drinking a bottle, beidou stood up and announced that she and her lover would be going back to the quarters early. as the celebration continued behind her, she carefully picked you up bridal style and brought you to her quarters. her eyes widened when you started to ramble how much you love her before letting out a small smile and ruffling your hair, minding her own flushed cheeks.
diona hisses at the stranger who was obviously taking advantage of your kindness while screaming how disgraceful they are for trying to use you. wanting to teach them a lesson, she takes a step forward but you stopped her with a reassuring smile. huffing but obliging to your wishes, she only glared at the stranger, mentally memorizing their faces so that when they visit the bar, she would ask the traveler to mix up a horrible drink. after all, no one messes with you and gets away from it.
her eyes widened as she saw how you got hit from the active ruin guard, with eyes full of vengeance, eula gracefully yet deadly strike it on the core, effectively making it inactive once more. quickly rushing to your side as she eyed the obvious injury that the ruin guard caused, she cursed to herself for letting it happen. she quickly tended your wounds as she said her usual line of vengeance will be mine while coaxing you to not fall asleep.
fischl excitedly retells the stories she loved to you while being held by you in the bed after a tough day full of commissions. her prinzessin persona dropped completely as she started from the very beginning while playing with your hands. a soft smile present on her face, happy to share something she loved to you, her significant other.
embarrassed at your request, ganyu shyly looks away while looking down, fully presenting you her horns. a pink dust appeared on her cheeks when she felt your hand softly yet carefully trace the design of her horns. the warmth of your hands against her horns made her at peace as the initial embarrassment went away, replacing it with comfort and tranquility.
smiling mischievously as her eyes landed on your unsuspecting figure, hu tao carefully and quietly navigate herself to you. she tries to conceal her excited giggles behind her hand as she crept up behind you. she stayed there for a while before quickly wrapping her hands around your waist and shouting “boo!” in your ear while giggling madly.
waking up at the sound of the birds chirping, jean slowly opens her eyes as she yawns. she blinked a couple of times to get the sleepiness out, once her vision was clear, her eyes quickly landed on your still-sleeping figure. she smiles as she brushes a strand of hair behind your ear, softly calling your name in hopes to wake you up. hearing you groan in protest, she pressed a quick kiss on your lips, promising to give you more if you wake up right now.
keqing huffing as she loudly makes her side of the argument, her face almost turning red due to the anger she’s feeling. she knew she was right, so why were you insisting you were the one right and she was in the wrong? not wanting to back out from the argument, she accidentally says something she regrets. after the adrenaline of the argument evaporates from her veins, she quickly realizes what she said as she quickly pulls you into a hug while quietly apologizing.
whilst keeping her company while in solitary confinement, klee happily hums a tune she heard from barbara as she draws on a piece of paper you gave her along with some crayons. patting her head while she does her task, she looks up to you expectantly with her huge doe eyes, showing you what she drew. guessing from the color schemes of the two figures, you figured it was you and klee. happily praising her with her drawing, she excitedly grins at you.
the fatui agent screamed in terror as a cryo attack hit him, hitting him square on the chest. shouting profanities, he looks at who attacked him to give them a piece of his mind only to fear his own life. standing right behind you, in all her glory, was la signora, otherwise known as your lover. she clicks her tongue, staring at the agent with judgement, before turning her attention to you. cooing sweetly at you as she checks for any possible injuries before telling you to stay in her quarters as she deals with a pest.
lisa blinkes in surprise at the scenery before her, the library now deserted from people is decorated with a festive decoration. the table she used to have her tea time with is filled with food, from cakes to cookies, it even has her favorite tea among it. the scent of her favorite filled her nostrils as her eyes landed back on your figure, who was fidgeting from nervousness. laughing softly when asked if she likes it, she coos at you and brings you into a hug. you really are adorable, too much for her heart.
her eyes widened when the door leading to her room opened, lumine looked up to see you in the doorway, the light from the outside pouring in the dark room. she looks away while blinking away the tears gathered in her eyes, why did you have to see her like this? hearing the soft thud of a closing door, she felt the bed shifted and warm arms wrapping around her. your hot breath in her eyes as you whisper comforting words in her ears. deciding to finally drop her guard down, she clings to you and starts bawling. why did her brother leave her once again?
surprised at your question of your future, mona coughs in her fist as she decides to fulfill your curiosity, also with a promise of giving her mora even though she declined it at first. she let the chart of the astrology signs appear before her and started doing her fortune-telling stuff. seeing her nod as she stares at the constellation of what appears to be yours, you noticed that her face bursted into red. worried for her, you asked her what’s wrong and she could barely put out a coherent word from her mouth. she huffed as she looks away, hiding you from her view via her hat, her mind racing at the image of you settling down with her.
ningguang confronts you one day about your distant behavior with her, her eyes scanning your body, picking up your nervous tics along the way. she tilts her head as she looks at you with expecting eyes, even though her face remains stoic, her eyes are practically pleading for you to tell her what happened, did she do something wrong? sighing at your explanation, she stood up from her chair and made her way to you. pulling you into a chaste kiss, she smiled at you, reassuring you that everything would be okay.
gently waking you up from your nap, the face of a worried noelle appeared after you opened your eyes. smiling gently at you while stating that she finished preparing the soup and medicine and it’s time to eat. she frowned when you told her you don’t want to eat, to which she responded “you won’t get better if you won’t.” deciding the best option is to feed you, she scoop up a spoonful of soup and encourage you softly to open your mouth. her eyes lit up when you complied with her wish. after feeding you and making you drink the medicine, she changed your wet towel on your head and gave it a kiss, hoping to barbatos that you’ll get better soon.
qiqi looks up at you expectantly while raising her arms up, asking for you to carry her. because you can’t physically or mentally decline a sweet child like her, you lifted her up like she wanted and adjusted your hold on her so that she wouldn't fall off. wrapping her arms around you and smiling happily, you continued to traverse liyue harbor while carrying her.
watching you in amusement as you struggled to try to get a kiss from her, rosaria chuckled when even if you were standing on your toes, you still couldn’t reach her. seeing you pout at her, she gave your cheek a pinch while cooing at you. after having a deal with you, a kiss in exchange for a wine in the tavern, she gave you your desired kiss after rolling her eyes at your expecting face.
while looking through her notes, sucrose heard you hum while doing your daily house chores. looking up to peek at where you stood, washing the dishes while swaying slightly and humming a tune. she smiles as her focus soon shifts to listening to you humming instead of focusing on her notes. noticing that the shy girl was looking at you, the said-girl let out a tiny shriek and quickly looked down to her notes. chuckling at her adorable action, you continued to wash the dishes as she went back to her notes.
xiangling blushed profusely at the sight of you holding out a bouquet of flowers with a bag of jueyun chili on your other hand. she covered her face with her hands, incoherent words leaving her mouth as she tried to process what she’s seeing. you must’ve flustered her too much. chuckling at her reaction, you set down the bag and the bouquet at a table and wrapped your arms around her, patting her head to calm her down.
excitedly yet nervously strumming her guitar in front of you, xinyan took a deep breath before starting to strum her guitar for real and began singing her heart out. she hopes you’ll like the song she composed, exclusively for you. the one and only fan she has that endlessly supported her through her rockstar career. she smiles at you brightly as she continues to sing, bobbing her head up and down. this is who she is, and she’s glad she found someone like you.
feeling someone’s disappointing gaze on you, you look up to meet yanfei’s gaze with a frown plastered on her face. drunkenly greeting her, she shakes her head as she exclaimed she’ll be bringing you home now. it was a bit difficult as you kept wanting to wander off but she somehow managed to bring you home in one piece. plopping you down on your couch, she sighs as she mumbles that she became your babysitter and quickly fetches you some water. after some difficult time once again to make you drink water and the ending being successful, she stares at your sleeping face before letting out a sigh once again. why do you keep choosing someone else when she was right here by your side the entire time?

Tumblr media
Diluc
Absolute pretty boy who has braincells, but only if Kaeya is not there. In his mind, Kaeya’s presence makes his room loose 40% of their common sense. He can’t prove it just yet but he’s working on it. He majors in accounting but also has a minor in marketing, logistics’ management, fia- he majors everything business related. He’s going to become the next Elon Musk through smarts or by getting the competition drunk. There can be no contest if he’s the only candidate. He’s actually a hard working guy that overworks and stresses way too much. You have daily “Diluc recharge” evenings where he just hangs onto you while you go through your day.
“Don’t fucking talk to me until I’ve had my coffee,” except there is no coffee - he drinks grape juice out of juice boxes and his only energy boost is when he meets up with you - and that’s his constant mood. So he usually only hangs around you and Jean, since she has childhood friend status and is actually an angel. By default, Lisa is added and Diluc doesn’t mind her but if he see’s Kaeya, it’s full on war paint mode. If he's not busy with work or studies, he's usually with you either in your dorm or his apartment.
He has a fanclub and he seriously hates it and tries to do everything in his power to get Ningguang to take it down. Shouldn’t this be against his rights? But she refuses for whatever reason and makes a whole speech about free will. No matter what he does, someone manages to take a picture and it get’s printed in the university’s newspaper. The only bonding time he has with Kaeya is every Monday, where they collect and burn all the universities newspapers before anyone can get their hands on it. You always bring marshmallows to make smores during their arson activities.
“When I graduate I’m going to burn this school down to the ground. That’s not a threat it’s a promise.”
Tumblr media
Ningguang
Is secretly the leader of the Diluc fanclub - not that she likes Diluc, she’s in a questionable platonic poly marriage with you and Beidou - but it was the easiest way to gain funds for the student council. Which she is the president of, so rip Diluc the fanclub stays. Ruthless business woman I tell you. But she can run in heels so her danger factor rises by at least 20%.
Majors in social sciences and law but more specifically the political science & government. She saw the Imperial State Crown that the Queen of England wears and says yes, that’s mine now. If she’s not with Beidou and you planning on “how to infiltrate the state government just for lols”, then she’s with Keqing, Ganyu, and Zhongli discussing student council things. Should they or should they not tell the student body that they can see everyone’s search results? Sit back and relax as the school goes into chaos.
She’s probably the scariest person on campus No, she is the scariest person on campus. She’s the scariest person on campus. But secretly she’s popping 20 aspirins just to make it through a night. She has the digestive system of steel. She still holds the title of "seriously do not try and beat her in a drinking game it's never going to happen" and that's her proudest achievement in life but sadly she can’t put it on her resume. Kaeya is still trying to beat her out of spite but so far it hasn't been working. You’re seriously concerned for her when she get’s challenged but Beidou gives you a way-to-hard slap on the back and cheers her on. If Ninngguang somehow get’s alcohol poisonings she’ll somehow find away to make a profit out of it.
"I'll let him die, I'll get the insurance money."
Tumblr media
Kaeya
One day he chugged too much mouth wash, passed out, and somehow woke up in university majoring in law. His idea is that if he is apart of the law, he can therefore stand above it. To be fair, his only goal in life is to say “I am the manager” and he can go live the rest of his life in bliss or as a hermit. He’s secret best friends with you but wouldn't be caught dead beside you. He will stab a bitch if you ever get hurt but will still trip you on the way home. Seriously, you have no idea why people find him attractive. Your guess is it’s the eye patch or the clap of his ass cheeks that keeps alerting everyone.
He’s apart of the newspaper club and if anyone asks: No, he has no idea who keeps taking all the newspapers and burns them in the back of the campus. Originally, he joined because he was nosy and needed to join some type of club for his resume. He sometimes feels bad for his junior assistant Amber because he keeps tricking her and says that Diluc is secretly a demon that is trying to steal all the jobs and is apart of the lizard government hell bent on eradicating the human race. He even brought out a whiteboard for this joke, he’s dedicated to his job ok?
The type of guy to try and be humble and say his work is “okay” but will choke a bitch if anyone agrees. He tends to leave everything last minute and says that it’s his drug since actual drugs could land you one year in prison and a maximum penalty of $2,000. You have to awkwardly hold in your concerned mother head shake when you see him speed running his assignment literally right when the professor is walking around to check if students finished.
“I was taught how to lead not to read.”
Tumblr media
Mona
Broke wallet #2. Zhongli is broke wallet #1 but Childe simps for him so is he really a broke wallet at this point? In this essay, I Mona Megistus, will explain why I have the rights to the title “Broke Wallet #1″...
Believes that astrology should be an actual career path but refuses to take astronomy as her major. I can read the stars not a textbook that tells me how to calculate the mass of the sun divided by the fucks I give. Instead she went into Philosophy and cries to Albedo, who is an actual prodigy genius- sir lend some braincells to everyone else please?, that her professor keep turning her paper down because “star reading” is not an academic source.
Fischl wants her to join the occult club because, surprisingly, Mona is very good at telling people’s fates through her crayon sketch ouija board. She thinks first year Fischl is cute but is put off by the cosplay roleplay that she has going on. She would join except that stupid hat wearing gremlin in her lit class would make fun of her if he found out.
You gave her half your lunch one day and bought her a doughnut "because she seemed upset" and "out of the goodness of your heart" whatever the hell that means. She thinks you pensioned it but once that thought comes she takes a bite. Poison from a doughnut is not the worst way to go out, classes are hard enough. She’s waiting for the lord to strike her down anyways.
“Its not about passing, its about doing better than everyone else.”
Tumblr media
Venti
Slept through most of highschool and people question how he got into university. He’s a music major (wow how fucking original is that), and if anyone asks him to serenade someone or just do anything, he’ll do it for the right price. Or if you buy him alcohol because he still keeps getting ID checked. He’s banking on Kaeya actually becoming a lawyer or being on good terms with Diluc so he can finally stop being arrested for looking like a toddler.
Takes one step into classes and quickly nopes out and goes back to bed. Professors have no idea how he hasn't dropped out or failed. He just has some god given talent. He does whine at you to pretty pretty please with a cherry on top tutor him because you're such an angel and would never leave your poor but awesome best friend hanging right? He needs to get this essay down but how he is suppose to explain how the number 10 is symbolic and connects to the universe or the meaning of life. Do you think he can just say it’s apart of his culture and make up some random myth to pretend it looks like he knows what he’s doing?
He’s honestly going with the flow and put his brain on the back burner all of highschool and only now realizes wait, I actually have to use my brain?
He’s been banned from most club chats since Venti has the no chill card. Someone says “lol I look ugly today.” and he’ll respond "yup, you look like a cow." and he get’s banned. Zhongli keeps a speed run timer on his phone just to document these occasions.
"Sad spelled backwards is das and das how it be sometimes."
Tumblr media
Childe
An actual dumbass that somehow does well. He eats sandwiches with the crust off, this heathen. Surprisingly he’s studying to become a physical therapist but most of his experience has come from breaking his own bones. You’re scared how he's going to be if he actually becomes a therapist. If he'll make bets with his patients or try to one up whatever crazy injury they get into. Everything is a challenge to him that sometimes the best way to deal with Childe is to knock him out.
This man really knows the way to a Zhongli’s woman's heart. Through micro transactions. Mona saw him accidently drop $20 and just shrugged and walked off. She has never been both spiritually and physically offended in her life. She did take the $20 though. As much as you hate leeching on Chile when he’s basically a walking wallet that probably uses bills as tissue paper, you can’t help but give him puppy eyes while planning on how to get into his will. If he even plans on having one, he might honestly write “whoever wins in a gladiator style duel in my funeral’s tournament, they will get my fortune.”.
Any sport the university offers Childe is probably in it. Which is how he met Zhongli, challenged him to a fight, proceeded to have his ass handed to him, got a backhanded compliment, and screamed to you he was in love and how he found his soulmate. He's secretly very sappy and has cried and watched every Disney and Pixar movie at least 28 times.
"IM NOT TOO SPICY! I’M A TINY BIT ABOVE MILD IF ANYTHING!”
---
God if it isn’t Scaramouche, it’s Childe that ruins the aesthetic. This is why I hate you. Why do you people enable me like this, it isn’t even good. This is pretty much a @ yourself moment and I vibe hard with Venti. This entire post was just to make a joke about the clap of Kaeya’s ass cheeks alerting the guards.
This week might slow down since I have classes and assignments. My reply’s are gonna be late too, sorry;; (oh and thank you to everyone that was so supportive and nice when I mentioned it. All of you. Beautiful 💕💕 )

Note
Anon who sent in the sick/birthday request here.
I actually meant being sick on the characters' birthdays, but that was really good, too! I especially liked Mona's silly necklace. XD
Feel free to re-do it with what I meant if you want, but I see you've got a ton of other asks and already feel less terrible because of your usual great writing. Have a great day, homie. C:

How to tie up a cute boy
(Highschool Au)
Pairing: Childe x fem!reader
Parts: 1  2  3
Word count: 4K
Warnings: Swearing, Scaramouche abuse, no Signora slander this time, shit humour.
Synopsis: "Why are you doing homework?" Childe groans, rolling off to the side and kicking off the blanket to expose himself in nothing but a pair of boxers. "I'm literally right here, naked and defenseless. Why aren't you taking advantage of me?"
Note: Unedited yet again besties. Tysm for reading :) I got Childe after losing him to mf MONA, istg it was the most stressful moment of my life.
Tumblr media
The clock ticks with its pendulum, ridiculing you as it holds the time. The gentle whirring of the air conditioning in the background serves as the icing on the cake to your pent up aggression.
You try not to glare at your phone too much after receiving a text from Childe that told you not to worry, that his dad picked him up and that he was in the comfort of his home, letting the flu blow over.
It took a lot of convincing from his part earlier that morning to get you to go back and actually attend the rest of your classes, making sure to check up on him every break plus the additional "bathroom breaks" you usually never take while in class.
"I can't let you get in trouble for me." He murmured with a small smile that pumped your blood a little faster than usual. "I'm fine, really. Don't worry your pretty little head."
You do exactly that.
You don't even know why you're so worried. He's sick, not dying. Not to mention, you aren't even his girlfriend let alone his friend to care so much.
Your intrusive thoughts don't waste any time. You latch onto the one thought that takes over. He's probably dead. Lying in his bed in a heap of pillows, passing peacefully while his parents are in the other room. He's dead.
Okay, he's not dead. You intrusive thoughts sure do one hell of a job. He'll be fine, and in no time he'll go back to being a reckless distraction in your life that you need to surpass. Just another obstacle to add onto the list of things life has thrown at you.
But for an obstacle, he sure is kind of cute.
You refrain from bashing your head on the desk. School isn't really a preferred environment on your list of top ten places to shrivel up and die.
Speaking of death and all that is evil, why is Childe always on your mind? He takes up every nook and cranny of your day, constantly, and truth be told it's starting to boil your piss.
Every time you close your eyes you see his smug smile, and hear his stupid laugh. He's an annoying little prick who gets a rise out of exasperating you. Yet here you are, terrified by the warmth that blossoms in your heart when you so much as hear his name.
The final bell rings at long last, conveniently before you bite your tongue to avoid screaming, and not another second is wasted once you launch yourself out the door. You dodge through the crowd of students in the hall that are buzzing in excitement from it being a Friday afternoon, and you would be too if you weren't so damn hung up over a ginger with a battlekink.
Locker in view, you make a beeline and spend the next two minutes fumbling with the lock in your hands.
"Woah there cutie," Lisa speaks up playfully. "At this rate you'll break the poor lock with your bare hands."
For a moment you're surprised at her sudden appearance, but then remember that it's normal for her to worm her way anywhere.
"It's just—this lock is being dumb okay? It has no reason being a pain in my ass but it wakes up every day and chooses violence." You hiss through your teeth, a sharp metallic ring invading your ears when you lose it and jostle the combination lock against the door of your locker.
Lisa winces, but smiles teasingly nonetheless. "Want me to give it a try?"
"Please."
Lisa has the door open at record speed.
"I love you Lisa." You confess wholeheartedly, gripping at your chest. "I love you so much—"
"Yeah yeah," She waves you off with a grin. "Now hurry up and go save your boyfriend from the common flu. Archons knows he won't make the night."
You flush at the word "boyfriend" and don't give much thought to the insinuation that lies within the rest of her sentence.
Sliding your skateboard under an arm, you spin on your heel just to bump straight into Scaramouche, who's won the scowl of the century on his face. He's the last person you want to see right now, but apparently the universe wants to have a pissing match with you.
"Give this homework to that idiot Ginger." He shoves a stack of papers into you. "Tell him that once he's done circling the drain, I'm gonna kick his ass." He then leans in, murderous glint in his eyes. "And if you ever touch me again I'll take a shit in your cereal. That's not a threat, it's a promise."
You shiver at the thought of him squatting on your Cheerios, hands becoming clammy as you try and justify yourself. "It was an accident."
Your pitiful excuse earns you nothing from the navy haired boy. "It'll be an accident when I murder your entire family, three generations over."
"Hi Mona!" You wave excitedly over his shoulder at the body of students that are totally not Mona. With elation he fails to conceal, Scaramouche turns to look at the speed of light.
You take the chance to make your escape—not before waving to Lisa, chuckling to yourself. He's down bad.
With great expertise you file your way through the flock of students chattering near the entrance. , you confidently place your skateboard down on the sidewalk, ready to—
Wait—where does he live again?
You sigh heavily, ignoring the sadness as you thank the universe internally for pulling the reigns on your disastrous plan. Checking up on Childe at his house? With his family present? Making a complete fool out of yourself? What are you thinking? The possibilities are horrendous. He probably doesn't even think of you like that, he just likes a challenge and you pose as one.
You turn away to make a run for it in the direction of your home, all the while ignoring the nagging worry in your chest for Childe. He's probably fine anyways, you don't need to check up on him, and if you did he'd likely find a way to spin it and tease you relentlessly.
Although somehow, the thought of being teased by him isn't as dreadful as you'd like it to be.
Suddenly, an idea graces you, one that guarantees your misery by sating your obligation to check up on Childe. A litany of curses escape your mouth. Genius really, the amount of ways you can think of doing something that'll end in your demise.
"Adeptus Xiao." You whisper apprehensively, already regretting your decision. "Adeptus Xiao." Glancing around your surroundings, you barely notice the shadow that looms over you at your backside.
"What do you want mortal?" Unbeknownst to you, he strikes out of nowhere, making you jump back several meters. You manage to muffle a surprised shriek.
Xiao is Venti's -6 ft boyfriend, the vicious epitome of an eboy. He has a scaled tattoo covering up the majority of an arm, a few piercing holes in his ears, all matched up with a disinterested look. Somehow, he always appears out of nowhere if you call out his name. It's sort of disturbing in a way.
His amber eyes pierce through you, forcing a shudder of fear and dread to lace your blood, almost as if he can sense you shittalking him in your head.
With shaky hands, you ask, "Can you tell me where—"
"No."
"You didn't even hear me ou—"
"No."
"Please?"
He refuses to at least pretend to think about it for a moment.
"No."
"Why?" You frown, stomping your foot on the ground childishly.
"Because." He retorts with a lack of interest, but doesn't further explain his point. English teachers must love this kid.
"Okay," You say slowly, casually inspecting his form as you come up with an idea, briefly remembering Lumine mentioning it to you. "How about I give you my share on almond tofu Tuesday."
The lack of interest on his face wavers slightly. Bingo.
"What do you want mortal?" Xiao mutters gruffly, arms crossed, face morphing into subtle annoyance.
You wrack your brain for a proper answer. You can't just outright ask him or it'll seem like you have a thing for Childe, which you unfortunately do, but you'd like to keep a semblance of integrity. Ah yes, the homework!
"I gotta deliver these to Childe." You outstretch the pile of worksheets in your hands. "Except I don't know where he lives. Can you tell me?"
Xiao's eyes glint with danger. "Did you summon me for the trivial task of giving you an address?"
You nod furiously.
"Do humans have no shame?" Its rhetorical. Expressionlessly, he closes his eyes with intent focus, doing what you assume to be locating Childe's exact location.
He blinks an eye open, reaches a hand out. "Give me your phone." Palm waiting.
You hand it over to him almost desperately.
One glance at your bubbly phone case and he doesn't even try to hide his distaste. He taps a few times, then hands it back to you almost immediately.
On the screen is maps, and Childe's home is about a fifteen minute walk away.
Your jaw drops in disbelief. "How did you do that?"
"Easy," He mutters, leaning back against the school gate as the remainder of students walk past the two of you. "Locating demons that need subjugating is but a simple task."
There's a pregnant pause. Demon.
"Childe's a demon?" You gasp, even though you've always had your suspicions. Hence the reason you invest so much in demon-cancelling charms.
"What? No." He mutters with a roll of his eyes, and you note that his irritation grows the more questions you ask. "I had a physics project with him last semester."
That's why the charms don't work.
Your mouth forms an o, in fear that if you keep this conversation going on any longer, he'll snap at you. Especially when your next line of interrogation involves how he's able to appear and disappear into thin air.
It's a magic trick you'll want to master whenever Il Dottore has another conniption fit in the middle of the hallways after Kaeya tells him he looks like he has skid marks.
"Thank you." You say instead, trying to preserve his regard, but by the time you meet his gaze he's already gone with the wind.
Childe's home is surprisingly humble, considering the amount of fat stacks of cash he carries around in his fanny pack so care-freely. It's a normal suburban home from what you can tell, a little bigger than normal with a double garage, neatly mowed lawn and a few forgotten decorations from the windblume festival. A series of water guns lay forgotten near the entrance, making their presence known when you stumbled upon them.
It's hard to remain unphased. Especially since such a normal looking home has bred someone as ruthless as Childe.
Maybe it not the home, you think. Maybe it's the way he was raised. You recall a few glimpses of his mother in middle school, but because of your worse for wear memory retention, you can't ballpark her personality type.
As your thoughts wander further down to his parents and early childhood, villain origin story and what not, you're pulled out of your concentration when the door opens. The possible implications of being here are most definitely not in your favor.
Childe's mother is a stunning woman in her mid-forties who sure as hell doesn't show it in that jaw-dropping sapphire dress, topped off with a brilliant smile that makes your knees weak. Like mother like son, you suppose.
With her sudden appearance, strangely enough, you can remember how good her tiramisu bites are.
You take a moment to respond, swallowing thickly, only to stare at her stupidly.
His mother doesn't waste another second before ushering you in, oblivious to your star-struck expression. "Y/N? L/N Y/N? My have you grown. I remember when you were only this tall." She lifts her hand up a little above her waist, the jewels on her fingers dazzling with every movement. "How is your mother doing?"
"She's doing alright, busy with the clinic." You're able to find your words, smiling back at her, able to get somewhat familiar with her warmth. "I hope I'm not intruding. Childe forgot some homework." You say, heaving the short stack up.
"Ajax?" She laughs, shaking her head in disbelief. "I can't believe he's going by that now. I wonder when this phase will be over. He may act tough but he's such a softie, has the biggest heart."
You, in between concealed emotions and giggles that threaten to leak, try to hide the oncoming grin but it's impossible. "Well he's got you to thank for it."
"You flatter me too much Y/N," She fixes the up do, pinning back the blonde hair that deftly frame her familiar cerulean eyes. "I can see why he can't stop talking about you."
Her words make you waver momentarily. The fondness you've refused to share, the drawn out stares in the halls, the lingering touches, you don't want to acknowledge it but it's there. Whatever it is.
"I'm so sorry for cutting this short dear," His mother sighs, grabbing her keys off the counter and placing her wallet in an elegant handbag. "My niece is getting married and we're already late. I told Ajax I'd stay if he didn't feel too well but he said he could handle a headache. That boy, I swear, always tries to power through."
You nod in understanding, but wait a minute. A headache?
Scrunching up your face, eyebrows furrowed, you ask. "Headache?"
She frowns, applying another layer of her rouge lipstick hastily in a nearby mirror. "I know dear, how unfortunate. The school nurse said it's a migraine, and I shouldn't fret much, but a mother can't help but worry. If only he weren't so stubborn, like his father."
As if on cue, a loud honk comes from outside.
"That must be him!" She exclaims, hurriedly sliding in her heels, turning back to look at your awkward figure. "Ajax is in his room, it's the second door to the right upstairs. I've made some lasagna for the kids, you ought to have some as well, I'll be upset if you don't—" Another annoying honk cuts her off, to which she scoffs, shaking a fist. "That old man, I'll strangle him in his sleep. I must be going now, goodbye dear." She reveals a twinkling smile at you one last time, waving a slim hand before picking up her heels and making a run for it.
The door closes with an unceremonious thud, gust of wind in its trail, leaving a bewildered high schooler in its wake.
Snapping out of your haze, overwhelming tides threaten to drown you whole. Being in Childe's home, alone, with him a handful of stair steps and a wall or two away, your cheeks are set ablaze.
Now that his mother's gone, you take a second to really look. There are a few toys littered in front of the TV, home covered in with soft throws and coordinated cushions, a lazy sectional plopped right in the middle. The marks on the furniture with all the stories, the light hued mismatched frames hanging on the walls and on all the table, so many pictures of those that resemble him, his brothers, his sisters, his family. You can almost hear the echoing laughter in the halls, the childish squeals and pitter patter of tiny feet slapping the hardwood floor.
This is where he grew up. This is where he retires to after a long day full of gratifying fistfights. This is where he was raised to be who he is today, ambitious and reckless, with the absurd dream to one day rule the world. This is his home.
It's...like being wrapped in blanket, safe and cozy, surrounded by all the love in the world.
Absentmindedly, your fingers trace the outlines of a younger Childe, two missing teeth and eyes full of dreams, hugging the side of his father's shoulder because his small arms can't wrap around them. Not just yet.
You make your way over to the staircase, which has even more frames littered across the wall, one that falls short of hiding the marks of a green crayon—another slice of domesticity you aren't quite accustomed to.
The reality sets in, and you come to a conclusion. This home is definitely not an environment for growing psychopaths, Childe just beats the odds like he beats up kids on the daily.
Your fist hovers over his door as you contemplate abandoning the sheets on a nearby table, but his mother was so sweet and polite, so incredibly hospitable, you wouldn't have the heart to make a run for it.
"I can see why he can't stop talking about you."
Three consecutive knocks. If he doesn't answer, you'll leave them at the door.
"Mama," Childe's muffled groans stem from the other side, and oh, you want to revel in the grave undertone of his voice because it's certainly not a common occurrence. "I told you I'm fine. You can go okay? I don't want you to be late, just need to sleep it off."
You blink, lips curling, and then knock again.
"Mama," He whines again, and it has you grinning mischievously. He's a mommy's boy, he has to be. The thought envelopes your heart with a newfound fondness. "Just come in and hurry."
You eagerly take in the room once you slip in, eyes scanning over every little detail, until they zero in on the heap of sheets smack dab on the single bed, a pair of feet dangling off the edge, topped with a comforter thrown over leisurely.
Childe's facing away from you, head dipped in between his shoulders, probably trying to find a position that's more comfortable. He's shivering, sweating at the same time. His mother must've been too preoccupied to notice. This isn't the first time he's used his exceptional bullshitting finesse.
"I can't believe you lied to your mother," You cross your arms, leaning back against the door.
With a jerk, Childe flings into a sitting up position, wide awake and aware of everything that is going on, a stark contrast from nearly seconds ago.
He blinks at you in shock, once, twice, rubs his eyes a bit, relaxes, then leans back, out of it completely. "For a sleep paralysis monster, you sure are kind of cute."
"For and idiot you sure are an idiot." You snort back.
"Wait a minute," He mutters slowly, jaw dropping. "You're actually here?!"
Ignoring his question, you opt to slap the papers on his desk to ignore your clammy palms. "Homework."
"And here I thought you came here all this way to be my personal nurse." He smirks, recovering from his momentary shock fairly swiftly. Doesn't refrain from giving you that shit stain of a bad boy grin, even with a flushed face and concavity under his eyes.
"I can be your personal mortician instead."
"I didn't know you were into role play babe, but I'll take what I can get." He winks, but is punished by a sequence of coughs that earn a wince from you.
"Headache?" You tease after he quiets down, but he remains as cavalier as always.
He sighs, sides of his lips still arched upwards. "My parents barely have any time to themselves, it's so hectic with the kids. What kind of son would I be if I couldn't even give them this?"
He must've threatened Barbara.
"You're," You inhale, briefly letting the silence hang between you two, mulling over what you wish to convey. sweet.
"Irresistible? Hot? Sexy?" He starts casual, arrogant smirk widening.
"Kind of not a complete asshole, is what I was going to say."
"Careful girlie," He narrows his eyes on you, playful lilt in his tone. The comforter is allowed to slip past his shoulders to reveal the goods that lie underneath, the complete naked chest of a post-puberty highschool boy who sprays too much axe. Full pectorals are something to pay for, stringed with smooth muscles that ripple their way over his toned shoulders. "If you keep teasing me like this, I can't promise I'll be the nice guy."
"One more time from the top," You bite back, avoiding staring at him for too long. "Without the congested nose this time."
With great expertise, he weakly throws a pillow at you, and you watch it exceptionally land at your feet, barely grazing the tips of your socks.
"Impressive," You whistle, not impressed.
He pouts, shivers, then is dunking his head back into the welcoming embrace of his plush collection of pillows.
With a sigh, you plop down on his chair, grab a pen and begin calculating derivatives.
"What're you doing?" He doesn't even turn your way, voice muffled.
"Homework," You reply nonchalantly, trying to calm your nerves. "unless you want me to get you something to eat, considering you puked out your gogurt on Barbara's shoes earlier. Congrats by the way, you're hit listed by her fan club."
"Why are you doing homework?" He groans, rolling off to the side and kicking off the blanket to expose himself in nothing but a pair of boxers. "I'm literally right here, naked and defenseless. Why aren't you taking advantage of me?"
He really has an IQ below room temperature.
Burying the formidable obligation to clock him in the face on behalf of society, you slowly get up to approach his bed, to which he grins widely in disbelief.
Apprehensively, you climb onto his bed, and he scoots over, excitement as clear as day. His hair's a wild mess from all the shifting, almost makes you want to card a hand through it. Your heart nestles it's way in your throat at the sight of his blazing blue eyes.
You pity him for what you're about to do.
"Relax Childe," You lean over him with confidence you never knew you had to begin with, face hovering inches before his. Your fists strategically grip the comforter on either side of him. "We have all day after all."
Although you attempt to pay no heed to his quivering hand that snakes up to find solace on your hip, you momentarily shiver at the tenderness.
He's eating this up and leaving no crumbs. Closing his eyes in anticipation, his lips tremble when he tries to close in the distance.
Abruptly, you cross both handfuls of sheets over his body, tying them securely in place to keep him docile. He struggles in your grip, eyes snapping open in surprise. "Wuh-What."
"Did you really think you had a chance?" You cross your arms, stepping back to get a good look at your handiwork.
"Honestly?" Childe huffs, struggles some in his restraints. "I wasn't really thinking."
"Typical," You scrunch your nose up, unscrunch, and then exhale. "You stay here and I'll go make you some soup. Well, not that you can really move but you get the idea."
"You're really going to leave me here like this?" He pouts cutely, melting you, and the sick bastard knows of his power.
"Relax," You wave a hand, "I may be evil but I'm not Scaramouche."
Meanwhile, Scaramouche sneezes as he tries to ask Mona out, falling straight on his ass from the kick back, making a complete fool out of himself. Mona doesn't mind though, finds it endearing.
Back at Childe's room, he raises a brow, expectant.
Going through the five stages of grief, you do something you've been wanting to do for a while, succumbing to the immense feeling.
Closing in the distance between you two, you suck in a breath and gently tilt Childe's head to the side. He blinks quickly, not quite expecting your sudden forwardness, about to say something that doesn't matter as soon as you place a tender peck on the side of his cheek.
Time stops, the world coming to a halt completely. A moment made in history, one you won't ever forget, fresh in both your minds from forward on.
And then you stagger away as if you've been stabbed.
"Soup!" You squeak, appalled by the sheer boldness of your actions. "I'll go make soup while you rest."
Childe, frozen, stares at you incredibly confused, and then beams.
Dear Archons, what have you done.

Hi! If you're still free for requests, I'd love a continuation of the exploring dragonspine hcs, for (uhhh everyone but let's say) Mona, Diona, Lisa and our new boy Xiao - Anon from the last ask 💛
Yay! Thank you for your request and here you go <3
(for other parts check the “exploring dragonspine” tag)
Exploring Dragonspine pt.3
Tumblr media
Mona
She hates every second of it.
In no way is she adapted to such cold. Her outfit obviously is not acceptable for this kind of weather, so she has to wear an ugly big coat provided to her by the Adventurer’s Guild.
She also lacks nutrition, considering her limited diet. Some basic food is obviously provided by the guild too, but eating some dried meat and goulash after weeks and weeks of salads is a deadly strike for your stomach.
And when you are hungry even a simple gust of wind can chill you to the bone, and long mountain camping becomes unbearable on a physical level.
The result is she usually whines and complains a lot. Probably even too much, considering all the problems can and should be solved, but experience is just overall unpleasant. She never gives up though or even falls behind. It’s like she can get fuelled by the irritation alone.
What’s worse, she can in no way carry out her astrological readings. It’s usually too cloudy to see the sky during the night and that’s when you don’t stay in some cave. And in the blizzard it’s often impossible to make out the person standing next to you let alone the stars.
On the sunny days when all is seemingly fine the problem is finding water that hasn’t turned into muddy blocks of ice. But if Mona gets lucky to find a running mountain river or even a small melted puddle it’s truly worth it. She says herself that the pure waters of melted snow are optimal for hydromancy, that’s how it’s done the old-school style.
She finds her new motivation in desire to reach the mountain top. To be able to carry out a long deep reading being so much closer to the stars. For her this experience is worth the suffering.
Diona
Being the one to usually complain about anything and everything Diona surprisingly loves the snow.
It’s usually hard to get her so openly excited about something, but snow crunching under the boots and puffy snowflakes slowly falling from the sky do the trick. It’s like she finally lets herself act like a kid.
She is not afraid of the wilderness of these places at all, her cat instincts fully sharpened, little cat-ears twitching at every suspicious sound. Her survival skills are something to learn from truly.
Snow storms ruin the experience though. Diona is not comfortable hiding in some stupid cold cave for long, so if the blizzard calms down by the nighttime she will insist on moving out and continuing the expedition.
Thankfully she can be a decent guide, using her night-vision. “Haha, primitive ones, you can’t even see in the dark!”
As you can guess, this plan doesn’t work for everyone. And if you don’t want to wander around in complete darkness led astray by the wind and snow, paralysed by sheer cold eating you up from the toes, relying solely on a fussy tiny cat-girl, for SOME strange reason that is TOTALLY NOT obvious, there is a way around it.
It’s possible to calm Diona’s temper a bit by simply making her stay by the fireplace for some time. Add some warm drinks or even milk and some casual hugs and Diona will calmly dose off for a few hours.
How to wake her up to go into the windy nightmare of a trip again? Well, you will have to find that out for yourself. A little tip - Diona actually likes to be carried around (but don’t we all?).
At times, when she gets too tired of trying to keep up with the rest, mind you, much taller teammates, she can simply jump up on your back, no questions asked. So be ready to look out for the claws.
Cats will always be cats.
Lisa
Lisa is probably the least outdoorsy person you can imagine. The fact she agrees to go out of her cosy library is a miracle on itself, but Dragonspine? No one will believe you if you tell this.
The truth is, she has a certain private interest in that place, that she wouldn’t reveal this easily. Maybe it’s something about the ruins of an ancient city buried under the snow and the relics it’s inhabitants left behind? Or maybe it has something to do with Durin’s remains and Albedo’s research? As Lisa likes to say herself: “Every woman has a secret”.
An unaware bystander may get a heart-attack seeing Lisa rock her usual outfit in this weather, walking around effortlessly in high-heals like she’s flowing above the snow. The trick is actually pretty simple, she wears a tiny warming Seelie captured in a little bottle as a necklace.
Being both the laziest and the smartest person in Mondstadt, she finds all kinds of clever ways to ‘cheat the system’. For her, creating some obscure method of battling cold on the go is always a better option than prolonging the trip even for a minute.
Warming potions, gliding potions, energy potions, fire potions, anything you can think of Lisa has a potion for. And even if she doesn’t, it takes her a few minutes max to come up with the solution. “The sooner we’re done, the sooner we come back. I’m not planning to miss my five o’clock tea.”
If you encounter a puzzle, Liza will solve it for you almost instantly. While you waste your time and warmth looking through old books in desperate need to translate some runes or pace around searching for some clues, all the doors open before Lisa and all the magic barriers fall.
It kind of steals the excitement of riddles, so if you like, she might let you solve it yourself from time to time, just don’t make her wait for too long.
She prefers to keep her usual laidback attitude, avoid unnecessary battles, act efficiently and not waste her energy on something not worth her attention. However her maximum productivity is reached when it’s time to return back home from the expedition.
Lisa can actually just use one of her magic tricks to teleport back to the library almost instantly, but it takes a bit too much energy even for such a skilled mage. Besides, she would never leave her sweet little apprentice all alone.
Xiao
One may say he looks too displeased and totally unhappy to be here but you are well familiar with Xiao to know that’s just his resting face.
He is not concerned by the weather conditions in the slightest, not the rain, not the wind, not the sheer cold. It may seem it gets to him at times. “It’s not. Only mortals can be affected by such minor inconveniences”.
He stays as distant as always, following you on the nearest mountain side or silently dashing through the tops of the trees. Sometimes you can’t even see him, but can always feel his presence.
Xiao patiently keeps the watch during nights, hiding somewhere in the darkness by himself. He never joins you or even enters your tent or a cave you chose to stay in unless you specifically ask him too.
Peeking at him from behind while Xiao sits silently by the fire you can sometimes catch a glimpse of him enjoying the warmth and sound of wood slightly cracking.
He never shows his emotions, nor would he admit to have any in the first place. But sometimes he goes deep into his thoughts, looking around the snowy peaks, listens closely to the wind.
Is it sorrow in his eyes? Or maybe longing? Nostalgia? Is he thinking about some long-lost friend? Just don’t let him catch you staring or he will surely disappear again, looking over you from somewhere you can’t see.
“I have no interest in this place. I’m only escorting you on your quest, so don’t even think about asking questions.”
If you try throw a snowball at him, it might end poorly for you. Better try to explain the concept to him first, that is if you care to have your arm intact. He will claim to have no time for such silly things and the usual bla bla serious adepti stupid mortals kind of deal. But if you still want to start a snowball fight be ready for a snowball war, or even a snowball death.
“You are too carefree. Unlike for me, this place can be very dangerous for you. You don’t want to know about all the dark entities hiding below the snow and ice of this place, it bares many secrets and many lost souls. That’s why I’m here. To protect you”.

CHILDE:
Ajax is the Shit-head Elder Brother, but everyone knows it’s all done with love is it tho
He spoils you
archons does he spoil you
like him, you’re the middle child (only two years younger than Ajax himself), and in his mind you two have to stick together against your older and younger siblings
And with your Cryo vision ...
well, let’s just say that when the two of you are fighting, Ajax ends up frozen more than once
as your older brother, he has a knack for pushing your buttons, inciting violence in his sister that is usually the most passive of people -- and he lived for it
On more than one occasion he would scare away potential lovers -- they all knew what that red mask meant and chose to stay away as soon as they saw it
You were his only younger sibling that knew of his Harbinger status, and for good reason -- having been blessed with a vision from the Tsaritsa herself, you had been recruited into the Fatui around the same time as your brother
Surprisingly, it was the Tsaritsa herself that taught you how to utilize your vision, showing you how best to call forth ice and snow and testing you with various weapons before you ultimately chose to fight with a bow like brother like sister kajslhdfs
As soon as Ajax rose to Harbinger status, you were placed under his watch more like you had to watch him, and had even traveled to Liyue with him
and when the whole Golden House incident happened?
You had never wanted to kick his ass so much
which is exactly what you did after he failed to summon Osial: you took him to a field far from the harbor and thoroughly handed him his ass
"Slow down, would ya?!” Your brother parried every strike you sent his way, which only proved to enrage you further. You scowled at the man, picking up the pace and striking him faster than he could counter or dodge.
“You are a verifiable dumbass! Did you really think that the Qixing and the Adepti would forsake the city they pledged their lives to protect?!” Your scowl deepened into a snarl as your fist connected with Ajax’s cheek, sending him tumbling to the dirt. “Or were you so blinded by your loss to the Traveler that you weren’t thinking?”
“Now that’s a little much, dontcha think, sis?” Ajax smiled. It was a smile you had seen thousands of times before, and it took you no time to know it was fake.
You leveled him with an icy glare, and he actually felt his body grow cold.
Oh wait, that was the ice you were currently encasing him in.
“You will be stuck here, frozen, until I deem you have learned your lesson,” you said simply, stuffing a hand in your pants pocket as you slipped on your Fatui mask and turned your back to your brother.
“Aw, come on, lil’ sis! That’s so cold!” Ajax whined, and you had to take a few deep breaths before you looked at him over your shoulder.
“That’s the idea, dipshit,” you growled, reveling in the fact that he flinched at your tone. With that, you turned back around to head back to the harbor when your brother’s whispered words drifted to your ears.
“You’re just as cold as Signora. How could I have let this happen?!”
Ajax yelped as a shard of ice thwacked him in the forehead, blood trickling down into his eye. He managed to catch the dangerous look on your face before you disappeared from view, and he swallowed past the fear he felt rising in his throat.
Uh oh. Think I might have teased her too much.

XIAO:
he is the Over-Protective Elder Brother
he is immensely bitter that he missed such a substantial portion of your life, losing the chance to watch you grow up into a strong warrior
Xiao was taken from you when you were barely old enough to wield a weapon properly, so you grew up without him, until Morax had liberated your brother
before that point, you had survived under Morax’s watchful eyes, and the god was the one to teach you how to fight, even gifting you a Geo vision to wield as your own
when Morax freed your brother, you were the first person Xiao asked about. It had been many years since he had been taken from you, and he could only hope you were still alive.
“Xiao.” The sound of your voice had the Yaksha jumping to his feet, wide amber eyes meeting your own. Although you hadn’t grown up with him, you knew he wasn’t one to let emotions get the better of him. And yet, you noticed the tears welling in his eyes as you stood before him.
You approached him slowly, as if he were a scared animal, a gentle smile tugging at your lips. You stopped just a few feet in front of him, about to speak when your brother’s body barreled into you. His arms wrapped tightly around your back, the fingers gripping the back of your shirt trembling.
“It’s okay,” you whispered, the two of you sinking to the floor, just holding one another. You could feel his tears soaking into your shirt and you lifted a hand, running your fingers through his hair. It was something Guizhong would do to calm you when you were a child, and you r actions had Xiao sobbing even harder.
Xiao rarely let you leave his sight after the two of you were reunited
he was adamant that he go with you, no matter where you were going or what you were going to do
he knew you were a capable fighter, wielding a pole arm and a Geo vision much like your teacher
but he had already lost so much time with you
he didn’t want to lose any more time
Xiao would train with you, fight by your side, would listen raptly to all the stories you had been a part of while he was gone
he made promises a lot: promises to protect you, to stay with you no matter what
you were the only one other than the Traveler that he willingly stayed around
when you would wake from nightmares, Xiao was there to help chase them away
but when your older brother was the one suffering from nightmares, it was always you that helped ease the pain, whether it be by singing a soft tune or training with him to get his mind off of the nightmare
when Rex Lapis, ahem ... “died”, it had fallen to you to make sure Xiao didn’t completely shut himself off from others
and suffice it to say that when the mortal Zhongli appeared at Wangshu Inn three weeks later, you had immediately recognized your teacher.
“Xiao!” You beamed, tugging at your brother’s sleeve as a wide smile split your face. “Xiao!”
“What?” he growled, sharp amber eyes flitting to you. But your gaze was set on something else, something in front of the both of you, and when Xiao looked he felt his breath catch. Standing before you was a man Xiao would recognize even in death.
“It is good to see the both of you doing well.” Morax gave the both of you a delighted smile, resting a hand on your head. You were vibrating from the excitement that seeing your teacher -- alive -- brought, an excitement that, for once, was reflected in your brother’s smile.
Tumblr media
NOELLE:
you were just a few years younger than your sister, and just like her you had been blessed with a vision
you couldn’t remember your parents; for as long as you could remember, it has just been you and Noelle
you worked with Lisa in the library, mostly organizing and reorganizing books and papers, as well as practicing using your Electro vision with the librarian
but every day, without fail, you and Noelle would meet for lunch. sometimes you had to drag your older sister away from work, but it was the one thing that never changed as you grew older.
you would help her get into the Knights of Favonious after all you had a few connections ;)
it wouldn’t happen right away nothing ever does :( but you wouldn’t give up until Noelle had a place with the Knights as something more than a maid
the two of you would be fiercely protective of one another, and would gladly maim someone if they were to endanger you
more often than not, it is Noelle’s Geo shield that protects your team from your haywire Electro manipulation
“Noelle!” You shouted over the thrum of battle, and in an instant everyone on the team had been shielded by your sister. Just as quickly, a wicked smile adorned your face and you coated your pole arm in Electro as you charged the gang of slimes.
In the time it takes someone to blink, you traversed the entirety of the battlefield, striking every enemy as you went. That is, until you hit one of the Pyro slimes, the resulting explosion knocking you from your feet.
You cursed yourself, readying your weapon just as Noelle’s shield disappeared and the slimes that hadn’t been culled attacked you. You locked eyes with your sister, giving her a nod as she shielded herself and your teammates. You breathed a sigh of relief before steeling your nerves, coating your weapon in Electro once more.
Electro crackled in the air around you, bolts of it arcing off of you and your polearm and traveling to the ground. You didn’t have long, and so you struck the remaining enemies quickly.
As soon as the tip of your weapon touched the first slime, Electro energy exploded forth from your body and touched every slime surrounding you. You willed the energy to keep shocking the slimes until they had disappeared, and by then you could feel your skin prickling; could see the jagged markings appearing on your hands -- no doubt they were present on your legs, as well, but you didn’t have near enough energy to keep yourself standing.
Noelle was the first to reach you, one hand grasping your shoulder and helping you sit up. She frowned at the dazed look on your face, and immediately pulled you onto her back as she and the rest of the team made their way back to Mondstadt.
“You did amazing, (Y/n).”
Your eyes struggled to stay open, your brain fried from using too much Electro, and so you barely heard the praise fall from your sister’s lips. But it had a small smile tugging at your lips before you drifted into darkness.
Tumblr media
MONA:
Oh boy...
Okay, so: both you and Mona were taken in by her master, but only Mona decided to learn under them. you were content as you were
you weren’t blessed with a vision like your older sister, but that didn’t mean you couldn’t fight: you had learned how to wield a blade by watching others around you
You would frequently travel with Mona when her master sent her on errands, chattering and laughing with her without a care in the world
but every time the two of you would run into trouble, the both of you would fall silent as you battled
There was only one time in all of your travels where you had come close to death
You had elected to jump between Mona and a Cryo slime, taking a hit to your side that momentarily made you freeze, and the slime had taken that opportunity to charge into you, sending you flying backwards into a tree
“(Y/n)! Are you alright?!” Mona was at your side in an instant, her gray eyes wide with worry. You tried to laugh, to alleviate her worries, only to fall into a coughing fit.
Your sister became increasingly worried as her eyes drifted down to the ice covering your wound. Just as she reached to touch it, something caught the sun and blinded her for a split second.
“(Y/n), what is that?” As your sister pointed towards your closed hand, you finally registered the cool feel of metal on your palm, and as you unfurled your fingers you were greeted by a Dendro vision.
A tired smile tugged at your lips as you looked down at the pulsating vision, a wry laugh falling from your mouth.
“Huh, guess nearly dying does have it’s perks,” you chuckled, delirious from both the cold and the hit to your head. You heard Mona screech at your words, and you could only chuckle as you turned to meet her eyes. “Don’t worry, Mona. I’ll be fine.”
“Don’t joke about dying, you stupid little sister!”
