You Turn my Shield on Me
Venti x gn!reader
Genre: i don't know i just write. no more questions
Word count: ~ 1.2k
Warnings: Mentions of a battle, weaponry
Summary:
He always asked if you'd protect him on your excursions. Turns out, he never needed to be protected after all.
The setting sun is doing little to warm you as you push yourself up from the cold, muddy ground. Your heart hammers wildly in your chest, chasing that rush of adrenaline as the sound of battle stills. Your weapon, dropped a distance away from you in the fray, glimmers mockingly at you as the light catches it. You had stumbled and fallen, but… that hardly matters right now. No, there are much more pressing matters at hand.
You look up at the man standing in front of you. His back still turned your way, an arm reaching out ready to draw another arrow at a moment’s notice. His moves are careful and practiced, practically perfectly honed. You’ve only ever seen aristocrats fight with such elegance and precision before…
Which is why this makes no sense.
“You’ll promise to protect me, right?”
It’s what he always says when you two go out exploring together. Or, rather when you go exploring and he tags along out of boredom. And you had always assured him that you’d never let harm befall him, always promised that you’d be his shield. After all, he was a novice at archery, he claimed. A bow was a difficult weapon to defend oneself with in the heat of battle without exceptional mastery of it.
Arrows still surging with Anemo energy litter the now desolate grounds turned battlefields. Each and every one of them had hit its target. Clean, lethal blows. As you finally catch your breath, remembering to breathe properly amidst your confusion, you see him turn to cautiously check on you.
“Are you alright…?”
…
There are so many things you want to say. So many things you want to ask. Your jaw drops open a few times over, you sputter and stutter and mumble out half-baked words and jumbled sentences until you give up, closing your mouth, and give him a slow, cautious nod. You are unharmed. And it was no thanks to yourself.
Venti watches you for another long moment. His eyes, much more focused than usual, scan you for injuries regardless of your insisting that you are fine. He knows you well. Quickly, that look is replaced by the familiar one you are so accustomed to. One you now doubt the sincerity of, just a little bit. His shoulders relax and he exhales in relief for a moment before his posture straightens back up, his bow lowering to his side.
“Well, that’s a relief… We sure were lucky these monsters were on the easier side!”
Those words sting a lot more than you expected, though you can’t quite pinpoint why. Perhaps it’s because you know it’s not quite true. Perhaps It’s because you know those enemies hit hard. Fast. Ruthlessly.
And they certainly don’t stall for long enough for an inexperienced archer to pluck them off one by one like that.
And yet…
“You were incredible back there.” The words slip out before you can think to stop them. You’re not quite sure if it’s words of praise or an accusation. His mastery of the bow, the precision in his strikes… You couldn’t wrap your head around it. He said he wasn’t capable of that. That he needed your protection.
He blinks, and for a moment, his eyes shy away from yours, his lips pressed together a bit firmer than usual. Maybe this is what guilt looks like on him. But then he smirks, the easygoing, almost careless expression you’ve grown so accustomed to returning as if it had never left in the first place.
“Really, now? Praise from my most dearest muse, is it? I must fetch my pen at once, lest I mistake it for a dream!”
You’re not sure what comes over you. His words were nothing out of the ordinary from him, he’d tease and poke fun all the time. But… For him to act so casually, so normal after a display like that…
It irritates you.
“You said you were a novice,” you practically snap. “That it was just a hobby.”
“And you don’t believe me?” His tone is light, teasing, but there’s something guarded in his eyes. He steps closer, offering a hand to help you up. You hesitate for just a moment, but you take his hand, only now realizing that those delicate hands that pen the most beautiful prose you’ve ever read are firmer, sturdier than you could recall. Or perhaps you were only noticing now that you knew to look for it. He pulls you up to your feet with ease.
“I… No! Why should I?” you demand, brushing dirt from your roughed up clothes. “I’ve never seen you fight like that before..! Or, at all, for that matter! What was all that?” You gesture to the field littered with arrows and fallen enemies, your eyes never leaving his.
He tilts his head innocently to the side, his smirk fading slightly.
“Does it… matter that much?”
“Yes, it matters!!!” you exclaim, the words spilling out before you have the time or restraint to stop them. “It matters because I trusted you to rely on me! And now I find out you didn’t need me at all?”
There it is. The heart of your frustrations, the reason your chest aches as much as your bruised body. You’ve always been the protector, the shield, someone you wanted him to rely on. To feel safe with. And he’d let you believe he needed you, too. But now that picture in your mind breaks into a thousand pieces, and you both know very well you won’t be able to put it back together, no matter how much you try. You were too smart to believe his words, his deflections.
You hang your head, your gaze falling down to the muddy grounds beneath you. Though you can’t see his face, you can practically hear his emotions in the tone of his voice. It’s… raw. A bit more intimate than you think he intended.
“I never said I didn’t need you,” he whispers, his voice low and even as he takes a step closer. “I just don’t want to stand in the way of your talent…”
He seems almost unsatisfied with his own choice of words. Slowly, his hand reaches out, searching for yours, taking hold of and wrapping around your fingers so delicately as if he’s asking permission.
“...My warrior, you would have had this in the box, regardless if I stepped in or not. I just… didn’t want to see you hurt. You don’t need my protection, but… you have it.”
It’s not quite an answer, and it certainly doesn’t answer as many questions as you would have liked. But, there’s an honesty in his tender voice that makes your heart hammer again. Your lips part, intending by all means to press him further, to demand answers about his skills, his lies…but the words die on your lips as your shoulders sag to match the dejected feeling of reluctant acceptance. You knew better than anyone how avoidant Venti could be when faced with such a direct accusation. You knew better than to press further to achieve nothing.
“...Okay. Let’s go home.”
His grip on your hand tightens, bringing your attention back to the moment. And as you walk home, he doesn’t let go of you even once. His grip is gentle, apologetic, begging for understanding and time to explain what happened today. And, albeit reluctantly, you grant him that grace as your fingers interlace with his.

pacts and their marks: demon au
Summary: Where you've accidentally summoned a demon (you’re an exorcist) and now you’re in a pact with them! They’re now your assistant of sorts, some more willing than others…
Characters: Venti, Xiao, Lyney, Wanderer
Content warnings: minor injury and blood (Xiao), mentions of fire and smoke with allusions to death (Lyney), mentions of death and human experimentation (Wanderer)
Generally speaking, Venti likes to float rather than walk if he can help it; he’s gotten the habit of flitting around your form often, hanging off your shoulders and clinging on to you absentmindedly. You might be more annoyed about it if it wasn’t for his voice as he greets you, light and deceptively soothing.
Venti’s music hypnotizes the heart. Whether it be singing or another instrument, he has the ability to convince any being, living or dead, to do as he wishes—so long as his melody isn’t overpowered by their strength of mind.
Honestly, sometimes you wonder if he’s testing the safety-precautions of your pact. You’re invulnerable to his powers thanks to it, but with the way he endears himself towards you, you wonder if his true motive was to steal your affections in another way.
He’s one of the rare demons that blend in with people well. You found him as a spirit living inside an antique lyre; while Venti says he was sleeping there for a lack of anything to do, you have a feeling that there’s another story behind his attachment to the item. He often uses it in battle—its strings glowing with an old magic that matches the shade of his eyes and braids.
You sometimes forget how deadly it is to lose one’s mind in the heat of a fight, when Venti’s lying next to you on the bed as he scrolls on your spare phone. Noticing your attention he peers up, twirling his hair—currently unbraided—between his fingers.
For how much he teases you about praising him, Venti’s never mentioned anything about playing his music to get rid of your nightmares. One time, when you were especially sick, you recall him singing a song in a language you didn’t recognise.
It was hauntingly beautiful, and so was the way he brushed his hand through your hair, too gentle compared to the demons you had to hunt down.
Xiao’s most unique feature had to be his wings; the same dark shade as his hair, dipped in streaks of teal.
During a quiet night, he’d told you they used to be white as snow and gilded with gold. But an angel that kills to protect is destined to fall from the clouds, shrouded by the ghosts of those they have slain.
You know there are others like him, but he says they’ve succumbed to corrosion. He is the only one left, and is one of the only demons you’ve met that hunt down their own species. In an effort to save him from his own corrosion, you’d made a pact with Xiao to link your life forces.
Despite how he’d told you to leave him, his spirit still reached for yours—towards any form of light and warmth it could meet. Xiao still finds the marks of the pact distasteful, however, always glancing at the dark patterns now etched into your skin. You tell him it’s more reassuring than not, now that you can summon him with a call of his name.
If there’s one word to describe his powers, it’s destructive in every form of the word. Xiao leaves the battlefield entirely demolished after a fight. Sometimes he struggles to control his strength, but it’s been getting easier to do so with your presence to balance his.
He prefers to throw himself in as the weapon. Which is why when you’re the one that gets injured this time around, all Xiao can do is panic. He holds you in his arms, frozen as he realizes he cannot help.
Thankfully, it wasn’t a serious wound. But after that, Xiao has been a lot more protective of you; almost hyper-aware.
“W—What are you doing, Xiao?” You flinch as he bites into your palm, drawing a small line of blood.
Xiao hums. “Did you know that even using your blood, I can only heal you a limited amount with our pact?” Another bite, this time with his fangs, frustrated. “Keep that in mind the next time you plan on getting hurt.” You’re lucky the hospital could treat you this time around.
All Lyney knows is that he was reborn in a fire. At the back of his mind, he’s searching for his siblings—though he’s not sure where they are.
Like smoke filling a room, Lyney’s able to create illusions that trick all the senses. At your first meeting, he’d tried this on you; only for one of your protective amulets to diffuse his powers, revealing a larger demon he’d been working with that’d been ready to devour you.
Suffice to say, Lyney was quick to switch sides once he noticed that you were winning. That, and the demon he was working with turned out to have lied about having a lead for him. After noticing your potential as a partner, he’d been quick to scout for your help.
He often uses his illusions to fool enemies into fighting one-another, redirecting their attention away—but after the pact, Lyney seems to lose his larger-than-life traits and falls into a casual routine with you. It makes you wonder if he’d been human before this, though sometimes he’s more cat-like than not.
If nothing else, he does like to put on a show when you’re faced with a battle. He makes your job easy, considering that your bond allows you to see past his illusions and maneuver around enemies, finding the perfect blind spots. Despite the oddity of your partnership, you start to enjoy the pattern of working with Lyney, from your smooth conversations to his smarts.
One thing that does throw him off however, is when a demon you were trying to exorcize attempts to form a pact with you. Not that you can’t have multiple pacts at once, but it’s the first time you’ve seen Lyney openly aggressive towards an enemy, striking it with a sharp bolt of flame that diffuses it long enough for you to dispose of it.
With the threat gone, Lyney was quick to check on you, looking for any traces the other demon might’ve left behind. He calms down once he finds nothing, eyes widening when he realizes your faces are only inches apart.
“I…” He looks like he’s about to apologize, but decides against it. “Please don’t make a pact with anyone else. I don’t want to feel like that ever again.”
When you first met, Wanderer had tried to turn you into a puppet.
It was his power, after all—to attach strings onto any form and take control of them. These strings could be cut off, but it would only take so long for him to attach them again.
Most people don’t survive their encounters with him, but you’d managed to trap him into a pact right before things went dire. Now you could restrain his actions to a certain extent, though Wanderer would always push against your control, keeping you on your guard.
Many coworkers have told you to simply be rid of him—but just as you’d tricked Wanderer into a pact with you, he’s since linked your heart with his soul. That is to say, if he was exorcized, you’d be going down with him.
It’s a small relief to learn that Wanderer could also puppeteer other demons, thus you put him to work on the field by your side, turning into an unwilling duo. He has a habit of not doing anything unless you make it a ‘command’, leaning closer with a challenge in his eyes even as an enemy charged at the both of you.
Then, with a snap of his fingers, they’d stop mid-air. As large as the pact's patterns are on your skin, you had to admit that Wanderer’s power was a deadly one.
You’ve always wondered why he had no reactions to injuries; no matter how serious, you’ve never seen Wanderer express pain. Much, much later into your partnership, you learn that he’s become numb to physical sensations a long time ago. And that him turning into a demon was a gift of reprieve more than not, as he’d destroyed and escaped from an experimental facility shortly after.
During a fight where you'd been affected by a tranquilising venom, Wanderer had been the one to save you; your eyes met briefly as you felt his strings take a hold of your form.
“Don't make me look bad now.” He'd said. “Just relax.”
With not much of a choice, you allowed him to guide your movements. Somehow, it does feel different compared to your first encounter with his powers. With a push and pull between the strings, you could almost say it felt like a dance.
Were Wanderer's movements always this graceful?

"I'M CALLING, SINCE THIS MAY JUST BE OUR LAST TIME SPEAKING TOGETHER", what a amazing start to the two of your phone call, can he even hear himself right now.. you were worried sick.. as he ever so dramatically explained his condition to you, and of course as the adoring partner you are, you rushed over to their place, expecting them to be ill beyond your wildest imagination.. except they simply had THE COMMON FLU, "You're not gonna die from a common flu, love" you stated, which resulted in your lover pouting. "Come here, I might die and your looking at something else but me?" you sighed, "Your not dying, once again.. it's the common flu, everyone get's it, once in their life!" "EASY FOR YOU TO SAY, YOU'RE NOT THE ONE DYING!"

VENTI X READER ✯

Ashrodisiac's Note:
hrlp i made this during class
Venti's lips were on your nipple, the swell of your breast in his hand as he pinched your tit between his index and middle finger. When he pulled his needy mouth away, there was a string of saliva connecting him and your delicious flesh.
He looked at your expression, the way your lower lip was tucked under your teeth, little whines still managing to escape. Chest going up and down as you take shallow breaths, you were practically panting. He smiled against your flushed skin.
"You taste so good, windblume..."

CW : bit of angst if you squint, fluff, soulmate timer AU
────────────────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹───────────────
Venti had long covered up his soulmate timer, thousands of years counting down yet he never cared. The anemo archon had never liked the concept of soulmates, sure someone destined to love you was sweet to most "but what is love if demanded by fate?" He thought to himself, words echoing in his head.
It was a warm day, birds sang their songs of joy as the wind caught their wings; the sun filtered rays through the large tree that the Bard stood under. It was the first time in so long that he looked at the timer on his wrist- 00:00:00 written on his skin. His lips quirked upwards as his eyes shone brightly even in the shade, perhaps his joy made him cruel, but he had denied fate, escaping the chains that once bound him to another. "Ehe, finally~" He sang as he spun around "freedom" It came out like a whisper, a hopeful plee for this feeling to stay, to not drift off like dandelion seeds.
The snap of a branch caught his attention as he peered over to the God statue sitting in front of the tree. And there you were, sat on your knees with your head hung low as if ashamed of something. "Lord Barbatos is there something wrong with me? " You muttered, venti's eyes widened as he listened in, curious about what was the matter. "Why don't I love them? No matter how long I stay I can't find the love I should feel" You gripped at the fabric on your legs, knuckles growing lighter as your grip persisted. "Why can't I love my soulmate? " Eyes downcast and shoulders tense you sat there.
"Now what's a bright traveler like you mopping here? " The Bard sang. You jolted back, landing on your butt as your arm flew up in front of you to grip your chest. "Ah! You startled me! " He only laughed, his airy voice ringing out. "Why don't you come drinking with me? Maybe the sweet taste of wine will help to lift your spirits~" He said wistfully as you stood up.
Your hands fumbled with each other as your gaze shifted out to the vast fields of windrise. "I'm sorry but I've met my soulmate-" The way your beautiful eyes darkened in a veil of sadness when 'soulmate' left your lips made the bards heart sign in sadness. "No no! This is just a friendly drink between friends!" He said, whisking you away as flashing his soulmate timer.
The drink was fun, jokes cracked by an enthusiastic bard as he plucked the strings of his lyre. It was the most fun you'd had in ages, all your worries drifting off as his music seemed to carry them. "Hey, Bard? What's your name? " A cheeky smile etched onto his face "venti! And you dear traveler?" You chuckled "y/n!" You stated, taking another sip from your glass.
The heart works in mysterious ways, yet still you wondered if you could even love. "Am I broken?" You asked yourself looking into the mirror, eyes stained red from your tears and worry. They were kind, a gentle person who seemed to love you fully, yet every touch from your soulmate sent no sparks through your heart.
Three years of love not returned, you wondered if your heart could feel- "how can my heart work if it can't love the one person it's destined to? " You wondered.
You saw others walk through the mondstat streets hand in hand with love and fate. Yet it left no bitter feeling in your mouth, only a sad longing. Can one really learn to love if their heart dines them so? 00:00:00 scrawled on your wrist in neat writing was a constant reminder of how cruel fate could be.
For how can fate lead if the heart does not follow?
Yet the bard's words caused you worry, "what is love if demanded by fate?" He had sung, the tune of his lyre clearing your mind as his words echoed through it.
Why did your heart love another? The silly Bard and his damned lyre! The calm when your shoulders slumped and your brow relaxed! Damn the feeling of your racing heart and pounding veins!
So enticing was the feeling he gave, the bubbly sensation in your chest and the feeling of wind against your face. You felt free! Like a bird soaring through wind and snow, or the soft petals of Cecilias swayed by cool breezes. It was an addicting feeling that he gave, but one you said you couldn't have
Oh how he loved your voice, the way you laughed so freely as his teasing, or the look of wonder while he played his lyre. How angelic could a mortal really look? More angelic then he, he thought as you stood on top ruins with the wind blowing against you.
And the warm feeling you gave him, as if you snatched his worries like stars from the sky and tossed them into the rivers below.
He grappled with these feelings for only a few days before they took hold of him. His eyes went soft when they gazed at you, his songs always drifting to love when he sang to you, and the feeling of freedom that you gave him made it feel as if the wind was under his wings.
It was conflicting, to gaze into the eyes of your promised one and only be able to think that it doesn't feel right. But as they stood in the home of your parents, a ring in their hand- you felt the constricting pressure of eyes burning your skin. The light seemed hazy as if the world had been shrouded in grey. Walls closing in and the floor seeming so much closer than before. You said yes. Could you really say no? With the peering eyes and excited chatter the words acted on their own, flowing like water from your mouth.
Avoiding the jovial Bard was hard but you knew that you would have to. Yet his music always drifted in the winds, Harmony's of his lyre caught like dandelion seeds in the breeze. You knew you couldn't handle it if you saw him now, so as much as hit hurt you avoided him.
Barbatos rang in his head, he had always heard when his name was said, but this was different. The sound of your voice echoed in his mind, his teal eyes going wide when you said wedding, how you didn't want to get married but- he knew what he had to do.
The gentle tunes of the lyre outside were familiar, yet in the hazy state of your head you couldn't recognize it. You began to walk out and down the aisle, the music was too loud in your head- almost loud enough to drown out your beating heart.
A flash of bright teals and greens caught your eye as you walked, sparkling pleading eyes that begged you to run as nimble fingers strumbed the astral iron strings of his lyre. Your thoughts raced as you almost frantically glanced between the Bard and altar. You didn't hear anything until your name was called, "do you take them to be lawfully wedded?" You snapped out of your haze and glanced at the Bard, the realization hit you like a brick, your throat felt dry as you took a deep breath before speaking. "N-no" Your voice was barely above a whisper but the winds carried it far, the winds also decided to carry the table cloths. Billowing and blowing sheets of white around the venue as a joyous laugh rang in the air, while all were distracted by gusts of winds and sheets wreaking havoc the Bard grabbed your hands.
You ran, legs carrying you as you weaved through the crowd, venti takeing in your smile he found so radiant- no longer overshadowed by melancholy in your eyes. "Y/n, I don't care much for fate, I want to be free with you" He said, turning back as he slowed to a stop. Gazing down at the 00:00:00 on your wrist and smiled. "I want to be free with you to venti- besides, who needs a soulmate anyways? " You laughed as the Bard tackled you in a hug. "Thank you venti" You kissed him on the cheek and he flashed you a cheeky smile. "Awww~ just a kiss on the cheek? Is that any reward for your Savior?" Shaking your head you rolled your eyes- how you loved this annoying Bard was the archons best guess, but you relented. Lips pressing against his, a kiss all too short for his liking as his cheeky grin widened. "Ehe~ much better"
The Bard, once ancient archon of wind was right, what is freedom if asked of you by a god, and what is love if demanded by fate? Nothing but silver shackles doomed to break.

Commissioned by @udretlnea
Request: I'm thinking slice of life, second person, and it takes place in Mondstadt. The reader is well known and liked by practically everyone; they are currently there to observe the Alchemy Event going on right now- This is just set-up. I imagine Venti is there waiting w/ Diona for their potion order; then he sees Reader and he gets intrigued so he surprises them. The two walk out of earshot and have a pleasant chat about what's been going on- Since the fic is only 1k, I'd prefer to keep it short between them. Reader mentions how they're adjusting to their role as "Overseer of Teyvat" (implying this is a Creator!Sagau); they offhandedly mention how Khaenri'ah's been working on dimension hopping tech before Diona drags Venti away. And the fic ends with Reader feeling uneasy about opening Teyvat up, but they choose to ignore it to go and experience the event.
Thanks for commissioning me!
It is convenient; the fact that you obtained godlike power as soon as you stepped foot unto the soil of Teyvat. It had been a tremendous help in navigating these new lands you'd been transmigrated into and made life easier. Just like this time. It didn't really take long until you reached the venue where the Alchemy Event organized by the Knights of Favonius is, all due to your ability to teleport long distances. You shook your head to get out of your musings and began to look around your surroundings.
It was a modest event focused solely on alchemy. Unfamiliar faces from both Mondstadt and outside of it flocked the booths, tents and stands full of test tubes and questionably multicolored smoke to see what was happening. It soothes you to be normal for a few minutes… until people noticed you standing amongst them and bowed in your presence. The scene made you squirm a little where you stand, not totally uncomfortable but still unused to the attention. You raised a hand, as if blessing them, nodding your head to signal that they can resume the event. Which they do, but some approached you to either ask for a blessing, for guidance in their life's path, or simply to greet you. You are liked, perhaps not as loved as the archons despite ranking higher, but you prefer it that way. It's less expectations, after all.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the Overseer of the world."
"Heya, Your Grace!"
You carefully made your way past the crowd to reach the two people who called out your name. You smiled in relief; finally, people you know! Venti was looking at you with a bright smile with both hands on his hips and Diona is enthusiastically waving at you. You pat Diona, which the bartender swiped at with a playful hiss.
"Venti, Diona, hi!" You greeted them. "What a surprise to see you here. This is the last place I imagined you to hang around in."
"I understand you for thinking that way, but curiosity had gotten the best of me." Venti answered, and then assumed a serious thinking pose. You rolled your eyes playfully with a thinly veiled smile. He's going to ask something ridiculous, isn't he? "If alchemy has the power to transform matter, I wonder if it could also be used to turn water into wine?"
There it is. Diona fumed, but you cover her mouth with your hand and answered. "I could turn water into wine. Easy."
Venti's eyes widened. His smile as bright as the sun above. "Really?!"
"No." You're not sure. You probably could, if you tried.
"My hopes and dreams…" Venti fake-cried and pouted, but he immediately gets over it and smiles. "Anyway, what brought you here, Overseer?" He gestures for you to walk with him, so you follow, steps falling in line with his.
"Oh, you know," you vaguely wave your hand, trying to make sense of what you were feeling. "Just looking around. I got curious myself about alchemy so I came."
"Ah, I see," Venti nodded. You mentioned to him and the other archons on one of the traditional divine get togethers — brought back by Venti and Zhongli — that your world once studied alchemy. Turns out your alchemy is a sham and couldn't turn stuff to gold, but it did make way for the study of chemistry. "I hope you are enjoying yourself."
"Don't worry, I am. Especially since I'm with you."
Venti gave you a soft look."Aww. I'm honored, truly."
You laughed and gave him a push, your cheeks feeling a little warm from the attention. He snorted and retaliated by send a gentle breeze your way to mess your hair.
A companionable silence briefly falls over the two of you like a cozy blanket as you sit down on a bench with the perfect view of the event. A tiny explosion from some failed alchemical experiment echoed somewhere and you thought you heard the Traveler's surprised yelp and Paimon screeching from the same direction. You both ignored it.
"You seem busy these days, Overseer," The Anemo Archon finally broke the silence. "What have you been up to?"
"The usual. Making sure the Irminsul is healthy through checking with Nahida, keeping the Abyss Order in check, rebuilding Khaenri'ah- ah, since we're talking about the place, I should also mention that they're working on some advanced technology. Something about travelling through another dimension."
Venti nodded, but his face looks a little troubled. "Are you sure that's a great idea? With Celestia gone, there's nothing that can stop Khaenri'ah from fulfilling their dreams. However…"
There's just way too many risks. You can hear his unspoken words in your head. As far as you are aware, they're "digging" through time and space to get to the world where you came from. While interdimensional trade can certainly be advantageous for this world in both technological advancement and knowledge, you're afraid of the repercussions of messing around with wormholes and potential war that can erupt due to disputes borne of different culture and lust for more territory.
Humans are greedy creatures, after all.
But before you could answer, Diona is already running towards where you were both seated. She pants and places both hands on her knees. The girl huffs one last time and looks at the green-clad bard, irritated. "Where in Teyvat have you been?! Your potion is complete so come get it already!"
"Okay," he replied, standing up. "I hate to cut this conversation short, dear friend, but I must leave. I hope you enjoy the rest of the event."
You nodded with a tired smile, watching Venti follow Diona, who's doing her best to keep walking ahead of the bard in spite of her shorter legs. You feel a little uneasy about the future, your heart being seized with fear for this world you swore to protect.
For now, however, you want to enjoy this peaceful day. Perhaps you'll go greet the Traveller.

imagine a royalty au where venti is the reclusive king of mondstadt. no one else in the kingdom besides his closest retainers have ever seen his face, preferring to keep himself anonymous. you’re a helper at the local tavern, serving drinks and occasionally tending to the bar. there’s a bard that always performs in the tavern, and while everyone cheers and claps to his songs, you’re the only one who approaches him after the performance is over, asking him about his songs and what inspired him to write them, genuinely curious about him and his interests. and venti, who’s only ever been told by countless people as he grew up that music is a useless subject for the future king, slowly finds himself looking forward to the days where he can sneak out of the castle to play a tune for you, his heart warm at every praise that leaves your lips.
when venti suddenly asks what you think of king barbatos, you answer with how much it’ll lessen the people’s worries if he showed more of himself in public, reassuring everyone that he’s well and still there to lead monstadt. a week after that conversation, barbatos suddenly walks out of his castle and into broad daylight, a gleaming crown on his head that left no doubt about his identity to any onlookers.
there’s a knock on your door. the smiling face of the bard you’re so fond of greets you, along with what is possibly the entirety of mondstadt watching over his back, everyone eager to get a glimpse of their reclusive king.
“venti…?”
“barbatos, actually, sorry for the lie. but feel free to call me venti! it’s what my friends call me.” he sheepishly scratches his head, nearly dislodging the crown that costs more than your entire life’s worth of savings. “i’m not really one for theatrics, but you said it’d be great if i showed my face in public, so here i am!” he spreads his arms out like a gesture asking for a hug. “so, anyway, what do you say to lunch this afternoon? i did promise to repay you for all those drinks at the tavern.”

Aether
Dreaming of you sucking him off while on your knees woke up the blonde abruptly, not even getting a chance to envision your mouth being filled with his cum.
The feeling of his cock straining painfully against his boxers was the first thing he felt when he woke up.
Try as he might to attempt closing his eyes and falling back asleep, they quickly shoot open at each twitch he felt. That image was burned into his mind of your pretty lips wrapped around the shaft of his cock and your throat bulging.
Would you really handle his entire length like that? Or would you be having tears running from your innocent eyes while gagging halfway through... damn he wanted to find out.
As immoral as it may seem, he ended up pulling out his phone, frantically scrolling through your social media and finding a picture of you at a beach— your swimwear exposing just enough skin and accentuating your gorgeous figure, leaving not much for the imagination.
Perfect, Aether thought as he quickly nudged his boxers down enough for his cock to spring out.
Wasting no time, one hand wrapped around the base of his cock while the other held his phone woth your picture staring back at him. Aether began setting a slow pace, pumping up and down slowly as you did in his dream.
The warmth of his palm enveloped his shaft, making him wonder if your hand would be just as warm and soft... and how tight you'd be if he was inside of you.
Quiet grunts and gasps fell from his lips, it doesn't take long for him to pump faster, hips trembling and bucking into his own fist, panting your name with a breathless voice.
Unbeknownst to the blonde, you were up late at night getting a snack, walking past his bedroom— only to hear the quiet mutters of your name. Your curiosity was quickly piqued.
You lingered outside his door for a little moment before turning the door knob. You cringed as it clicked a little too loudly, but you had already pushed his door open and peeked inside.
Much to Aether's dismay, he kept jerking off and thrusting into his fist while panting out your name, his thoughts muddled and the sound of your voice ringing in his ears—
Wait, he heard your voice clearly this time...
His eyes opened, and just seeing your face was enough to bring him over the edge.
Aether frantically tried to hide his cock using his bedsheet, only to grunt and gasp as thick ropes of his cum splattered against the fabric, his cheeks turning a bright shade of red at the failed attempt to hide himself. It was already too late anyways, you saw him jerking off to... you.
"Shit— I-I'm sorry— I'm sorry, really! [Name], jesus, why'd come in now of all times—" Aethwr was sputtering out apologies and begging you to not move out or kick him out. However, he was pleasantly surprised when you entered the bedroom and locked the door, your face tinted with a rosy pink. And that grin on your face when you saw your picture on his phone screen...
"Y'know... if you wanted some 'material'... I can always give you the real thing."
Venti
The pretty sounds of your shaky moans and soft whimpers shook Venti out of his dream. Oh, the sounds you made were so heavenly.
He jolts, gripping the bedsheets as he stared at the ceiling, taking a moment to recall every single moment of that dream— from undressing you frantically, to having you bounce on his cock, your body quivering and struggling to keep bouncing while he gripped your waist to keep you still.
The aching and heat pooling in his abdomen was a familiar feeling, this wasn't the first time he thought about you this way.
Thinking you were still away at your hometown, Venti figured he could have some 'me time' for himself. Plus, he saw your social's this morning, it seemed like your area was experiencing a minor heatwave since you were wearing such skimpy clothing. Could you be secretly tempting him?
Venti glances down at his cock, the way it twitched gave him a sense of familiarity from when he used to pleasure himself while you were in his mind. Nowadays, you two seem to talk a little less, what with private matters going on in both your lives, and he misses you dearly.
Nonetheless, you always end up in his mind one way or another. And he ends up jerking himself lazily while staring at your picture, eyes full of lust and longing. Still assuming he was alone in the apartment, he unashamedly moans your name, on his knees and the bed as he frantically thrusts into his fists, wishing for it to be your tight hole.
You jolt awake at the sound of Venti's voice, his moans muffled behind the walls. Damn, were you hibernating the whole time? Thankfully it was the holidays and your schedule was free, you must've been exhausted and forgot to inform Venti you were home.
A little Disorientated, it took you a while to register the sound of Venti's voice loudly moaning your name and sputtering out god-knows-what-else.
But once you caught on, you were still a little sleepy but concerned, thinking Venti was calling for you. And being the good roommate crushing on him, you stumbled out of bed, somehow making your way to the door without falling back asleep.
You huffed and opened the door, ready to yell at Venti for waking you up from your lovely slumber— until you saw the way he froze in position, one hand holding his phone with a photo of you on it and the other wrapped around his cock.
"...Hi." Was all Venti could say while sheepishly smiling at you, his cheeks tinged red. After a tense moment of silence, he swiftly threw his bedsheet over himself, trying to hide from you.
Venti, knowing he fucked up his chances with you, still tried to play it off with a nervous laugh. "M-My bad! Ahah— uh, just forget what you saw alright? Ooh, it's midnight now, you got stuff to do tomorrow right? Why don't you head on back to sleep, I, uhh, didn't mean to wake you up—"
While Venti kept going and on with his excuses, you quietly crept over to his bedsheet and gently pulled it off, exposing a flustered and panicked Venti tbat was still hard.
You offered him a reassuring smile, before getting down on your knees in front of him. Venti could almost cum on your face just seeing you like this, he flashes you his usual cheeky and flirty grin.
"No worries... I think I really liked what I saw... I just... want a closer look, please."
Xiao
This is what Xiao gets for stalking your social media before going to sleep every night— what kind of creep gawks at pictures of you ice skating in such tight clothing?...
Him, he saved the pictures into his album full of you.
The dream of his fingers forcefully tearing the flimsy clothing apart and pouding into you until you're left a sputtering mess, begging more for his cock, fresh and permanent in his mind. Unfortunately, the dream kept appearing in his head enough times for the bulge in his boxers to grow harder and more prominently.
He hissed at the stinging sensation... What happened to the cool, calm, nonchalant and distant Xiao? Reduced to a heated mess with a hard-on thinking about you?... That's just the effect you have on him.
And he wonders if you drool over him just as much as he did over you.
After a moment of berating himself for being pathetic and contemplating on what he should do, he decided to find that picture of you again as he was pulling his boxers down. Archons, did that outfit perfectly hug your each and every curve perfectly, he wished he could dig his fingers into the plush of your thighs while groping every single inch of you.
Xiao hesitantly pulled his cock out, the tip an angry shade of pink. Now throwing all caution into wind, his hips spasmed from the touch of his own fingers on his shaft, he was sensitive and needed to satisfy himself immediately. Placing his phone down on his bed, his cock hard and angled just below your lips from his point of view.
Slow and steady was not Xiao's style whatsoever, and now wasn't the time to be slow at all. Hands frantically pumping up and down his shaft, Xiao groan's filled the quiet atmosphere in his room, thumb sliding over the tip to gather a bit of his pre-cum as lube.
Meanwhile, you had came back home pretty late from work because of traffic— that goddamn deer...
You were a little sluggish and sleepy, dragging yourself across the floor. But as you walked past Xiao's bedroom, your ears caught on to quiet shuffling and muffled sounds. It was hard to make out the noises, but they sounded like groans and pants.
At first, you were curios and a bit concern, was the guy overworking himself again? Troubled by something? Or was feeling sick? As a good roommate, you wanted to be there for him and support him...
Mostly to hang out with him because you thought he was hot.
The door to Xiao's room was, luckily for you, left unlocked, allowing you to push the door slightlt ajar and peek inside. Your eyes widened as you spotted his figure hunched over in the dark room, his handsome features and his throbbing cock being lit up by his phone.
You could barely make out your own picture on his phone, his cock throbbing and twitching as he furiously rubbed one out. Xiao seemed to be way too focused on himself, grunting and muttering out only half your name while thrusting into his fist.
His dark hair clung to his forehead, sweat dripping down and eyes closed shut trying to imagine his cock thrusting into you mercilessly instead of his fist. The thought of you cumming on his cock helped Xiao reach his climax as well, cum spluttering out from the tip of his cock and spilling onto his hand, a few drops slowly slipping down and onto his bed.
"Ah—" The thought of Xiao climaxing to you was... exciting, and you couldn't help but moan in arousal, getting off on seeing your roommate jerking off to you.
Xiao jolted, snapping his head towards your direction as he frantically tried to pull up his boxers and hide his phone. "[Name]!? Damn— The fuck??—" He hissed quietly, cheeks tinged in a faint red.
"I-I'm sorry!" You sputtered out, snapping out of your aroused state as you realized that you were intruding on Xiao's privacy... even though you weren't apologetic at all, really.
"Sorry?" Xiao parroted, narrowing his amber eyes at you, gritting his teeth. You caught a slight bulge in his boxers. "You wouldn't be sorry if you purposefully invade my privacy.
The silence between you two was deafening, it felt a whole decade had passed before you finally spoke up, voice barely above a whisper but Xiao caught on anyways. Your next words got him harder than before and he couldn't wait to have his way with you.
"Then... Let me apologise to you... with my body..."

In the midst of the chaos of doctors rushing back and forth, Venti stood by [name]'s side, his heart heavy with worry. He clutched a bouquet of vibrant flowers in his hand, a symbol of his unwavering support and affection. As he watched [name] fight for his life, his aqua green eyes filled with tears, reflecting his fear of losing the person he cared so deeply for.
Venti's voice, usually filled with melodies of joy, was now quiet and trembling as he softly sang a soothing song. His words carried a mix of hope and desperation, his song a testament to the depth of his emotions. He held [name]'s hand, his touch gentle yet firm, as if trying to transfer his own vitality to them.
As the moments dragged on, Venti's heart pounded in his chest. The room seemed to hold its breath as the monitor beeped steadily, its sound a constant reminder of [name]'s fragile state. Then, suddenly, a long and continuous beep pierced the air, causing Venti's world to stop. His voice trailed off, and he stared at the monitor in disbelief.
Time seemed to stand still as the reality of the situation sank in. Venti's grip on [name]'s hand tightened as tears streamed down his cheeks. He leaned over, pressing a tender kiss to [name]'s forehead, his love for him pouring out in that moment. The world around him faded away as he held onto the memories they had shared, cherishing every moment they had spent together.

Doubts cloud my Judgement
Venti x gn!reader
Genre: hurt/comfort
Word count: ~ 1.5k
Warnings: Alcohol mention
Summary: Learning to be vulnerable is no small task, even if it's for the ones you love.
The winds whip to and fro in the night, the steady rustle of the leaves quietly dulling the city’s noise. It was almost as if the air itself was feeling agitated, restless, almost anxious, and knew no other way to handle it but to tug and pull at the branches of trees, to wear at the city walls.
You were surprised when you stepped out onto the tavern’s balcony yourself. The winds in the city were always gentle in the past... Though, that thought did not occupy your mind for very long. You only adjusted your clothing in place, bracing yourself against the moderate winds as you looked around yourself… You were sure you’d seen the life of the party back downstairs disappear though this door earlier, and his absence was feeding a growing unease within you. Of course, it wasn’t very surprising that he’d managed to slip through your grasp yet again, he seemed to have a talent for that.
You have known Venti for quite some time now. A chance meeting in the plaza quickly grew into a well-maintained friendship, and you had fallen for him hard somewhere along those months you’d spent drifting in and out of each other’s lives. You know so much about him, all the way from his preferences in drinks to mindless thoughts on meaningless matters that reveal themselves in casual conversations… And the more you learnt about him, the more sure you were that you didn’t know the bard at all.
Venti doesn’t strike anyone as the type of guy to keep anyone at a distance like that, and at first, you were willing to believe so too. But the better you got to know him, the more he withdrew. The better you got at finishing his sentences, the less he started them at all. He’d smile, nod, encourage you to talk instead, keeping his cards close to this chest and his heart tucked away for reasons you couldn’t comprehend. That ends tonight, you decided. Weeks of this unexplained distance was starting to bother you.
Your eyes traced the steady-looking vines climbing the walls of the tavern’s exterior. Your brows furrowed as the insanity of the idea crossed your mind. You didn’t exactly have any other means of ascending the building, and if you knew that bard even half as well as you think you do, he’s sure to be up there on the roof. Still, you could fall. And it would hurt.
…
Yeah, like that was actually going to stop you.
You braced yourself as you grabbed onto the vines with your hands, and slowly hosted yourself up just a few feet from the ground to test the waters. When you found that the vines held your weight remarkably well, you started pulling yourself up, grabbing hold and steadily climbing the building. With a huff you were able to pull yourself up onto the roof, the familiar sight of terracotta tiles filling your view… And sat in the middle of the slanted roof was Venti, with his back turned to you, uncharacteristically absentminded. The sound of your steps didn’t register until you’re right by his side, at which point he jumped slightly, the reaction so small you could see how anyone else might have missed it.
“O-oh, Hello, friend! In need of some fresh air too, I presume?”
There was something about his tone that felt so…unsure. Like even he wasn’t buying his own guise anymore. And yet, he tried foolishly to keep it up, knowing very well it wasn’t getting by either of you. Curious.
“...Yeah. Do you mind if I sit for a bit?”
You decided to entertain it for a moment in an attempt at disarming the suddenly tense atmosphere. Venti’s shoulders sank in resignation as he realized this night could end one of two ways… And he wasn’t quite sure which outcome he feared more. Letting you in or shutting you out for good.
“Not at all.”
You sat down next to him, giving him a bit of space just for comfort’s sake. Venti noted your distance with a curious hum, his gaze finally rising from the red roof tiles to look in your direction. He held your gaze for only a moment before he averted his eyes again, clearing his throat nervously. The winds tug at your clothes as gusts crash against you.
“...Venti-”
“I don’t-”
You both spoke at the same time, cutting each other off. In any other situation you would have had a laugh at that… But tonight, not as much as an amused snicker, even.
“How did things get so weird between us, Venti?”
Your unsteady voice was quiet, almost drowned out by the gales. You looked down at your trembling hands, unsure if it was the nerves or the cold that had gotten to you. You didn’t get much time to ponder it before the bard next to you let out a huff, scooted closer and placed his hand over your trembling ones.
“Everything’s fine, my friend. Everything’s alright.”
His tone wasn’t one bit convincing as he flashed you a smile you didn’t believe for a second.
“Please. Just… give me an actual answer.”
His grip on your hand tightened ever so slightly as he tensed up. You could feel the way his breath hitched on the winds, the way they shifted directions for a moment. His lips pressed into a thin line as he considered his next words very carefully, trying and failing several times over to find a way out of this confrontation. But, there was none.
“You know me so well it scares me.”
You weren’t expecting that. A part of you had worried he had figured out your feelings, and was looking for a way out of the friendship. Another was growing concerned he simply got bored of you. You… Did not expect to learn just how frightened he was by your shared bond.
“...Wait, what do you-”
His grip on your hand fastened ever so slightly, and caused you to hesitate. Your eyes drifted up to his figure, hunched over himself as he looked anywhere but right at you. A brief flash of panic crossed his pensive expression as you untangled your hand from his, but was quickly pacified as you reached up and brushed a strand of his hair out of his eyes. Finally, he looked at you properly.
“Venti, my dear… Can I ask you a question?”
You pleaded with a disarming smile.
“Y-yeah, of course.”
Venti stammered, his usual effortless confidence completely discarded. It was as if he realized trying to salvage that image was like fighting a losing battle.
“... What is it you’re scared of showing me?”
He went silent after that, his eyes narrowed as his nose scrunched up into a thoughtful expression. He had been mulling over that question many times the past few weeks, but he never found a satisfactory answer. He had spent many nights awake trying to determine what it was about you that he had suddenly grown so fearful of, enough to outweigh the joy he felt in your company. And only now as he stared into your endlessly patient eyes did he realize what it was. Venti didn’t give you a verbal answer, no… He did something you weren’t quite expecting. He pinched his eyes shut with a sigh, and dropped his head onto your shoulder.
You had never seen him be this vulnerable before. His boisterous persona and endless charm often gave people a very different idea of who he was, and you had long ago figured out the man beneath the surface was much softer, much more delicate than he’d ever intended to show you. Still, this was a shot in the dark for him. You could tell how tense he was, his shoulders rigid, his expression strained, his hands fidgeting with the frilly hems of his sleeves… He was so painfully uncomfortable with this expression of vulnerability, and yet he was trying.
You didn’t waste another second before you wrapped your arms around him and pulled him into a firm, loving hug. You heard him gasp slightly as his eyes blew wide, but he didn’t fight it. You huffed in relief, your hands slowly rubbing comforting patterns into the tense muscles on his back. The familiar scent of fresh breeze and cecilias that always seem to cling to him filled your nostrils as you embraced him tightly. It took him a few seconds to even register what was happening, almost in disbelief at the course of this wordless conversation.
Slowly, with an uncertainty that was utterly unfamiliar to him, Venti embraced you back. His grip was weak at first, but then he suddenly squeezed you close as if you’d disappear if he let go. His shallow breaths trembled as he fought to keep his composure.
“You deserve to be cared about, Venti. Please… let me. Don’t push me away.”
Your own voice quivered as emotions started running high. You weren’t exactly sure what it was that had you at the brink of tears, but holding back the sobs only got harder and harder… Until you heard Venti sigh. And you felt tears on your shoulder. So you gave in trying to hold back too.
The winds around you calmed as the dawn broke on the horizon, the two of you desperately clinging onto each other all the while. Things would be different from now on, but Venti’s heart already felt light with relief after that night.
Hey everyone! It's been a minute since my last post... oops!
My point is though I love this guy to death and don't plan to stop writing for him altogether, I'm taking a bit of a Genshin break! I've been running out of inspiration for Venti fics and mostly just rotate him around in my head for hours on end haha
So! You can expect some stuff from other fandoms going forward. I'll make a pinned post about that once I've gotten everything sorted. There will be more Venti fics again in the future though, so don't be discouraged!
Thank you for reading as always! :3

Feel absolutely free to ignore this, but after the corrupt!xiao fic I’m curious: got any corrupt venti thoughts you’re willing to share?
Corrupt!Venti AU
DISCLAIMER: the rest of this is just an AU setting! not canon-compliant + may reference SPOILERS in general for the archon quests and genshinlore
"My dear warrior, have you come to devote your voice to me?
Don't worry now! I'll make sure to put it to good use. With my help, your story will never fade from the songs of time. That is what my love can promise you. Have I ever led you astray?"
I can see this being caused by the defiled statue the Traveler found a while ago! Along with some other attempts from the Abyss to weaken the Anemo Archon's power...
Perhaps in this AU, Venti tried going against the summoning of archons to Khaenri'ah, which led to a warning/consequence from Celestia; tying the entrance to Celestia somewhere on Mondstadt, so that if their enemies were to seek it out, he would be placed under the burden of protecting them, for if not, Mondstadt would too be run down (punishing a god for his kindness... things like that)
ANYWAYS, in this case, I think if the Abyss did manage to weaken him enough, he'd probably sense his own corrosion coming and put Mondstadt into a timeloop as a last means of keeping his people safe + keep out the Abyss?
It takes the last of his power and he leaves to the outskirts, where he hides away in a hidden domain to 'rest', but of course he can't stave away the corrosion forever, and it takes form.
You're within Mondstadt during this timeloop, and are eventually led to the hidden domain because you're the only one that can hear a mysterious song calling out to you
Cue corrupted!Venti luring you in, because by now, he's not exactly himself anymore - dark purple energy replacing his previous anemo teal powers and the shade of his eyes
But it's Venti, and even if he's forgotten about his nation by now (only that they're locked away to keep them safe, in the illusion of freedom and peace), he remembers you.
...Well, he remembers his attachment to you, and asks if you'd like to stay with him there, in that domain. If you lend him your voice, perhaps he can figure out a way to keep you with him forever too! (Read: do not, he is stealing your voice as a source of power to use)
But perhaps even this is because a part of himself deep down remembers how he loved to hear you calling his name, laughing with him, and the way you used to look at him with...
"Is that fear in your eyes?" Venti hums, circling around you with lightness in his steps. He's in his archon form, wings brushing against your shoulder. You try not to think about the last time he showed you this form - back when it was a secret between the both of you, under clear skies and teal feathers that made your heart soar. The purple that cuts into your gaze sobers you. "Would you prefer if our new home was more reminiscent of old times?"
New home, as if he's already decided you aren't leaving now that you've found your way to him again. You briefly wonder if there's any ounce of the old Venti still in there, and if he was perhaps keeping you close to stop him from doing all this.
...Or maybe, he was asking you to keep him company before the world falls down, knowing that once the timeloop could no longer be sustained, even with his corrupted powers, you'd have to step up as a hero once more. Slay the monsters, free the kingdom. Save your friends.
With a lilting giggle, Venti covers your eyes with his hands. And when he takes them away, the domain has turned into...
Windrise? No, some condensed version of it, with azure skies and calming wind trailing on for miles. The tree still sits there. You remember the first time Venti introduced you to the sight.
He calls your name, and before you is Venti, still in his archon form, but with his blue glow and green eyes again. He gives you a cheeky smile, and you feel your heart ache.
"Better?" Venti cups your cheeks, stepping closer to you to place his forehead against yours. It's gentle, but you feel a foreign energy that's seeping away at yours, like it's trying to steal more away.
Like he can no longer love the same, needing to take something as a keepsake, before this illusion ends.
Maybe doing so in this form is an act of mercy to you. Venti's always been one to make sacrifices that were lost to the wind.

-During a New Year party-
You: We have to find him. I'm so worried.
Paimon: Ugh. What do you even see in the tone-deaf bard?
Traveller: Paimon-
You: He makes me laugh and has a beautiful voice that can convince me to do anything?
Traveller: Including paying his drinking bill and leaving Dragonspine for more than a few days
You:... Paying his bills sometimes. Leaving Dragonspine, not so much.
(If you're wondering, yes, you did find Venti. And no it wasn't in Angel's Share. He was stuck in a tree, and it wasn't easy getting him down but when you did, you were met with many kisses on the cheek and a drunken love confession from him.)
(Happy New Year!)

"just a cute person sliding in ur dms"
It was the fifth day in your first week of school: friday. Though that didn't mean you felt any sense of relief; no, not at all. The assignments due that day could prove that. And it was just the first week of school. The only thing you could do when they announced more assignments was put out your middle finger under the desk.
"So today, we'll be having a project, and partnership is needed."
You find your classmates glancing at one another, immediately making up their mind about who to choose, but then their beaming smiles falling when the teacher says, "I will choose."
The teacher began to recite names, then you heard yours with an unfamiliar one, then proceeded to others again.
"Y/N and Venti,"
You glanced side to side, trying to find who this so-called "Venti" was, but you couldn't seem to find him. Merely sighing and sinking in your seat, you rested your hands on your lap and crossed your fingers, hoping your partner wouldn't be as... useless.
(≧▽≦)
You changed into your home clothes and pulled out your notes, pen and paper to start finishing all your due assignments as soon as you got home, until a notification rang on your phone, claiming you've been added to a group chat.

You closed the chat and began to answer your assignments. Then you were distracted by another notification.
Venti has sent you a friend request.
You hesitantly accepted it, and almost immediately, he sent a message.

SYNOPSIS:
You only had one desire— and that was for the bard you adore and the Anemo Archon you met and desire to come home... Even if you had to waste everything to get him. (gen. neutral reader)
TRIGGER WARNING/S:
Angst for a little bit then turns to comfort ; Venti is a little shit ; reader's appearance, name, and identity isn't specified (they're addressed as the traveler) ; hurt/comfort is real y'all
Standing in front of the banner in the wishing realm, they carried the primogems they've saved up for months. They were told that they'd have the opportunity to finally summon someone in her team. Though, it depends on their luck- as it always has been.
Setting the barrels worth of gems, they focused their sights onto the banner. The traveler ignored the other three, that having being focused on weapons, standard banner (with most of the people known in Teyvat involved, surprisingly), and Kamisato Ayato.
No, they focused on one in particular.
Venti.
Taking a deep breath, they grabbed the first crate full of primogems, brows furrowing in determination. “I'll make sure to honor your wish to travel with me, Venti,” they began, letting the primogems form into intertwined fates. “And that starts with getting you on my party with me.”
The intertwined fates flew up to the sky as more began to fade, only to rain down in blues and purples. They began to fall into arcs, some higher than others as it all crashed down at the end.
Though, this didn't stop them as they ran to where they were flying off, eyes focused on the target. The traveler didn't want to waste the only opportunity to see if their wish would be granted.
They wanted him along in their team...
... Even if it meant losing everything to get him. In
The intertwined fates fell down rapidly by number, accumulating into weapons. Some even had a few familiar faces, and some turned into constellations that flew off to their respective owners. The traveler greeted those that came home and didn't knew them, saying that they can stay and see if more come by.
Then, it all comes down to the final wish.
The traveler lifted the last wish in their palms, and their brows furrowed out of worry. So far, they hadn't seen signs of him coming, and they were worried that he wasn't going to come and fulfill their promise.
... The promise of traveling alongside each other to fulfill the mission they have of this world.
Thoma seem confused when the traveler lowered their hands, a look of conflict resting in their eyes. “Hey, what's wrong?” he asked, placing a hand on their shoulder. “Aren't you going to get him?”
“I want to, but...”
They paused, glancing at the attempts with a heavy sigh. “I don't know if I can do it. I've done as much as I can to get him, but now...”
“I'm sure Venti will come home,” Barbara interjected, her cheery tone echoing the whole area. “He wouldn't just let us down! I'm sure he's just waiting for that one last wish!”
“Well, if it helps, I can always stay really far back so my luck doesn't affect you!” suggested Bennett, nodding enthusiastically at Barbara's words. “We can't give up now!”
“You've clearly got at least most of us,” Rosaria, who was staying at the back, sighed as she messed with her dagger. “If anything, giving up here and now would just waste whatever efforts you put into with getting this much fates for him. A waste if you ask me.”
“Sister Rosaria!”
“What? I'm just being honest.”
“.. Hah, I guess Rosaria's right.”
Lifting the last wish, they watched as it glowed and flew off into the sky. “The only thing we can do is just pray its Venti. If its not, I guess I'll settle with what I have.”
But what shocked them was the fact the light glow... Gold.
The traveler began to run towards the light, eyes widening as it was staying gold. It was already falling down to the receiving end of the arena, and they couldn't help but feel excited— was it true? Did they won against all odds?
Will their wish be granted?
Reaching the end, a bright light surrounded the arena, and they couldn't help but lift their arms up to cover their eyes. Trying to squint to see who it was, the traveler lowered them when they saw it dying down, their focus set on who came to answer the final fate.
...
But the sight of who it was shattered their heart.
The bright smile they had fell when they saw that it was...
... Jean Gunnhildr, the Acting Grandmaster of Mondstadt, that answered their final fate.
“... Ah, traveler,” she began, a bit surprised to see them. Though, the latter couldn't help but smile, albeit it was a bit... Forced.
That.. Was their last wish.
And their wish to travel with the bard was left unanswered.
“Hello.. Jean,” they answered, their eyes drifting to the ground. The painful prick of denial and dejection hit the traveler's heart, and they could feel the weight of disappointment rest on their shoulders.
“...”
Jean walked over to the latter, her gaze sympathetic. “You don't look happy to see me,” she spoke, chuckling. “Were you wishing for... Venti, perhaps?”
“Ah—?”
The traveler paused, brows furrowed before they let out a pained chuckle. Although they tried to mask how they felt, they knew Jean wasn't stupid. They wouldn't be able to lie to her like that, anyway.
“... Yeah. I guess you can say that,” the traveler answered, letting out a soft hum. “But it's okay! We all can't have the things we want, and I'm really happy to see you myself Jea—”
“No need to lie to me, traveler,” she interjected, sighing. “You clearly look sad when you saw it was me, you know.”
“But—”
“I'm not taking any rebuttals. Admit it.”
“... Ugh. Why are you so perceptive?”
“Well, you're rather easy to read, traveler,” she chuckled, a hint of amusement evident on her face. “Anyway, enough of that— you seem disappointed when I came home and not Venti. Why is that?”
“...”
... Why did they do this, actually?
“I... Wanted to honor his wish,” they began, their eyes turning to the grandmaster. “Back then, he said he'd love more than anything to travel with me— to help me in my travels to get my sibling back.”
They recalled how it played out, and they could never forget that smile on his face as they left Windrise to set out to Liyue.
“I know I won't be able to get what I want, but I want to do something to honor his wish... For once, I really want to do something right— to honor our promise, even if it's pointless in the end. It took me months to be able to do this, but now...”
They stopped talking for a moment and sighed, the hopelessness of the situation dawning on them. Of course the traveler wouldn't be lucky.. What were they thinking?
“... Sorry. You came home to a disappointed leader, and it just.. Feels bad, knowing all my efforts were in vain.”
...
...
“... Ehe...”
Huh?
"Ehehe... Ahahaha!" the acting grandmaster laughed, her voice changing to a familiar bard's. "Oh, I'm sorry— I couldn't help but laugh seeing how effective my prank was!"
... Prank?
“Wh—”
Venti raised his arms, grinning brightly at the traveler that actually summoned him.
“April Fool's, traveler! You just got pranked, ehe!”
“...”
A soft sniffle escaped them as they pulled the bard to a hug, surprising him. He let out a shocked noise as their shoulders shook, but he can tell the traveler was happy that he did came and granted the final wish.
“There, there...” he hushed, a smile playing on his lips. “I'm home now.”
And I'm not leaving this time.
