SORTING DISNEY LADIES (1999-2004)

Iām going in chronological order, and doing both A Squad and B Squad, because Iām interested in tracking how the ideal ādisney girlā has changed in the last (almost) 90 years. Right now Iām only looking at the human-shaped heroines of Disney animated theatrical releases. A more detailed break-down of the system Iām using is right here, but the basics are these:Ā
PRIMARY (ie MOTIVE)Ā
BADGER ~ Loyal to the group.
SNAKE ~ Loyal to yourself and your Important People.
LION ~ Subconscious Idealist. Ideals are linked to feelings and instincts.Ā
BIRD ~ Conscious Idealist. Ideals are linked to built systems and external facts.Ā

BADGER ~ Connect with the group. Make allies, work steadily and well. Be whatever the situation calls for. If you find a locked door, knock.
SNAKE ~ Connect with the environment. Notice things. Tell people what they want to hear. If you find a locked door, get in through the window.
BIRD ~ Collect skills, tools, knowledge, personas, useful friends. If you find a locked door, track down the key or learn to pick the lock.
LION ~ Be honest, be direct, speak your truth. Either the obstacle is going down or you are. If you find a locked door, kick it in.

Disneyās Tarzan is a ridiculously Snake primary movie. Like,Ā just to make this really, really clear, the first thing we see - the absolute cold open, is -Ā
Burning ship! Storm! Fire!Ā Tarzanās parents get into a lifeboat! He looks at her.Ā She looks at him. Phil Collins --
PUT YOUR FAITH IN WHAT YOU MOST BELEEEIVE IN!!!!!!
We get it. You can lose literally everything, but if youāve still got your Person, youāre going to be OK.Ā
And this movieās ethos is definitely Snake, not Loyalist. Badger primaries do not get a flattering edit. The antagonist for the first half is Tarzanās adoptive father Kerchack, who is deeply protective of his band of gorillas (all girls, by the way. He's the only guy. Which is how gorillas work, and the film doesnāt exactly bring attention to it, but still. Interesting detail.) Heās a loud Badger primary: the only thing that matters is keeping his family out of danger, and from his perspective Tarzan is a problem from day one. He is too obviously an outsider, not a true member of the community, and Kerchack makes it clear that Tarzan is not his son. āYou canāt learn to be one of us," he says.
The antagonist for the second half of the film (itās a weirdly structured film) is the Jaguar/Clayton. They are 100% the same entity. Clayton shows up immediately after the Jaguar dies, and shows up wearing the exact same color palette. There is a recurring misunderstanding where Tarzan refers to the sound of a gunshot as āClayton.ā This is not supposed to be a person, this is violence personified.

Clayton is also our visual representation of The British Empire/Colonialism, with his spats and his khakis and little pencil mustache, and Brian Blessed doing his voice. He is there to grab the resources (gorillas) and take them back to England. Soā¦ that means weāve got some more Toxic Badger going on here too.
In this film, the Badger primary idea of ācommunityā is framed as stifling, artificial, at odds with nature. Clayton, Jane, and Janeās father show up in the jungle dressed all wrong, and while the sympathetic Porters gradually shed layers, Claytonās character design never changes. He does not learn to adapt to the jungle, he is only Englandā¢
Thereās also the recurring joke of Janeās āProper Victorian Ladyā persona. Itās very useful for getting Clayton specifically to do things for herā¦ but she also brings it out in moments where it seems false and not terribly appropriate. Like when sheās talking to monkeys, or to Tarzan. The second she realizes that Tarzan can speak English she snaps into āProper Victorian Ladyā instead of following up on the attraction thatās clearly there. Sheās holding him at arm's length, and why??? The moment where he comes out dressed in European clothing is bittersweet, like Tarzan is hiding or losing part of himself. āSocietyā is at odds with instinct/freedom/love, and in terms of Primary, thatās the major conflict between Tarzan and Jane.
JANE. Tarzan, you can't imagine what's in store for you. You're going to see the world. Everyone's going to want to meet you. Kings, scientists and famous writers. (...)Ā TARZAN. And I'll be with Jane.
Jane is talking like a Badger (youāll be part of the community.) Tarzan is talking like a Snake (Iāll be with you.) And Jane DOES feel like a Badger through most of the movie. She talks a good game. But right at the end - when it really comes down to it - thatās not the call she makes.Ā
JANE. I belong in England, with you and people and ā PROFESSOR PORTER. But you love him. Go on.
At which point Jane joyfully jumps off the boat and swims to shore, implying that her Badger primary was a model, and she was always a Snake primary underneath.Ā
Jane Porter might model Double Badger extremely well, but sheās actually a double Snake like Megara. Sheāll go all Proper Victorian Lady to flatter Clayton, but sheāll also manipulate the baby monkey (āOh I canāt believe you fell for that oneā) before commenting on how its performance isnāt quite up to her standards (āDonāt give me those crocodile tears.ā) Sheās also something of a Single-Player Environment snake. When she gets comfortable, she starts learning how to use the things in her environment. Sheās delighted when she learns she can use her parasol as a weapon. Jane also seems to pick up that Tarzan is a Bird secondary and interacts with him accordingly, which her slideshow of buildings, customs, and art from the mainland.
(Tarzan is definitely a Bird secondary: he's an inventor, he makes weapons, he loves teaching himself things. Heās much more tactical than Kerchak, who - as a 300 pound gorilla - uses his lion secondary to literally charge into fights. Phil Collins tells us all we need to know about Tarzan with the lyrics: āI want to know / Can you show me?ā Perfect Snake Bird anthem.)
When we see Jane at the very end of the film sheās entirely improvisational and fluid, down to her absolute bottom layer of clothing, surfing the vines with Tarzan. Itās a gorgeous bit of animation. I definitely get a sense of the joy she feels at being so unconstrained and evenly matched. That's one more thing that makes me think she's a Snake secondary, who ends the film in Neutral.
KIDADIKASHĀ āKIDAā NEDAKAH (2001)

Atlantis is so close to being a good movie. All it needs is a slightly longer runtime, and likeā¦ two less characters. (Mole and Cookie. Donāt need them.) Kida gets less screen time compared than some of the the other ladies on this list, but she has enough presence and a cool enough design that she easily earns heroine status. It also helps that sheās basically the plot.
Kida wants to restore the traditions and knowledge her people have lost, and that motivates pretty much everything she does. She finds the history and culture of her ancestors deeply important, comforting and grounding in a very Badger primary sort of way, and laments that āWe were once a great people. Now we live in ruins. The kings of our past would weep if they could see how far we have fallen.ā She is very much not Jane, who needs to shake off ācivilizationā in order to live her best life.Ā
The problem though, is that Kida falls into a very Badger primary trap. When sheās asked to give up everything to protect the group - including her well-being and identity - she does it without a second thought. She gets turned/turns herself into a magic crystal in order to power her civilization while itās under threat, and I cannot think of a better metaphor of what it means to be an Invisible Badger, who is only the group with no identity outside it.
The āHeart of Atlantisā crystal that āthrives on the collective emotions of all who came before us [and] in return, provides power, longevity, protectionā is just a good metaphor for a āBadger Primaryā in general. Also, the way that the Atlantean King tries to weaponize it, ultimately destroying his civilization, works as a metaphor for the way a Badger primary can Explode, becoming authoritarian and harmful to the same people it is trying to protect.
Clearly the film itself is not a fan of this decision, as our protagonist Milo loves Kida and does everything he can to un-crystal her. I think itās implied that his love is one of the main things tethering her to humanity? Still, I would say that this film, unlike Tarzan, has a pretty Badger ethos. King Kashekim is our tragic misguided Snake primary, willing to let his whole civilization crumble so long as he gets to keep his daughter, and our villains seem to be mostly Hedonist Snake treasure hunters, willing to destroy a culture so long as they get paid. The film is definitely critical of certain types of Badger primaries, but ends on a note of collectivism. Milo has finally found a community that values him, and he stays behind to help Kida, now the Atlantean Queen, rebuild her civilization. Sheās still a Badger, just one with better boundaries.Ā
Sheās also a Lion secondary. Kida moves in straight lines, speaks her mind, and doesnāt care if you have a problem with that. She does the thing where sheās so honest and blunt itās almost rude. I suspect that her father is also a Lion secondary - we know that he was reckless and militaristic when he was young, and he seems positive that if Kida even knew about the Heart of Atlantis, she would make the Lion secondary call and dive headfirst into it. Sadly, in the main timeline of the movie the Kingās secondary is extremely burned, and heās basically incapable of any kind of action.Ā
Milo has an idealistic Lion primary that's a bit Burnt at the start of the film. When we meet him, heās spent years being told that everything he believes is a joke, and heās finally starting to doubt himself, scraping by just using his Bird secondary. Like a lot of Burnt Lions, Milo latches onto someone (Kida) for their confidence and their purpose. Luckily, once he unBurns there's a Paragon Lion under there that matches up very well with her Badger.
LILO PELEKAI (2002)

Lilo is an interesting one to sort, because sheās little - and also kinda going through it. Her parents died in a (fairly recent) car crash, and even though theyāre not *on screen* and honestly mentioned very littleā¦ their absence is felt. Lilo's unofficial family motto is āOhana means family, family means nobody gets left behind.ā But objectively, Liloās parents did her behind, and she spends the entire film trying to reconcile that.
Lilo is very young, dealing with a tragedy, and I also think the interpretation that sheās on the autism spectrum makes a lot of sense. We see her having meltdowns, struggling to transition from one activity/location to another, she clearly wants to make these connections with kids her own age, but itās justā¦ not working. All of that could absolutely point to a five (six?) year old on the spectrum. So the question becomes - okay, so is Lilo acting this way because thatās her personality, or is she acting this way because of the autism/trauma?Ā That's a question I get a lot, and my answer isā¦ I donāt think the traits this system is interested in are created out of nowhere. But, circumstances can absolutely make them louder or softer.Ā
Like, Lilo has a number of very strict rules that tip over into magical thinking. She can only eat peanut butter sandwiches because she has to feed part of her sandwich to her fish, and she canāt feed her fish tuna (dead fish) because thatās āan abomination.ā Itās very important that she keeps her fish happy because her fish controls the weather. And THATāS importantā¦ because her parents died in a rainstorm. All of this is 100% a coping mechanism: Lilo is trying to create rules in a chaotic world to feel safer. Sheās after a sense of control. This also ties into her fascination with 'goodness' versus 'badness:' sheāll say things like āIāll be good I promise,ā worry about being an āabomination,ā make charts of Stitch's "badness level" and also voodoo dolls because āmy friends need to be punished.āĀ Itās something she's focused on, and I think itās because she is aware thatā¦ sheās kind of a problem. Ā
Her older sister Nani loves herā¦ but Nani also loses her patience (sheās 21, 22 at most) and Lilo is aware that she stresses out her sister and makes her life more difficult. But, she has trouble changing her behavior because she's, you know, a traumatized autistic six-year-old. Which is really important when it comes to understanding Liloās relationship with Stitch. On one level, she identifies with the way he leaves all this destruction in his wake. He makes her look better by comparison, and I think she also sees a path towards redemption in teaching Stitch to be āgoodā (ie - useful and less weird.) When she tells him āYou wreck everything you touch, why not try to make somethingā - I think sheās projecting, and really talking about herself. If Lilo is teaching Stitch to be good, then she has a purpose, and a way to affect the world. We know that feeling powerless is a big thing for Lilo.Ā
So, if Iām putting her in the SHC system, she is definitely an External primary. None of this is about being true to your heart or even being true to another person, this is trying to figure out the rules of the world and putting together a workable system to live with. This focus on morality and punishment is also something I see a lot with young External primaries. While this trait might have been exaggerated by the events of Lilo's life, I do think itās something that was just in her the whole time.Ā
At first I thought she was a Badger, because of the way Lilo focuses on the importance of family. Also, her first instinct after she thinks Stitch has betrayed her is to outgroup him: āYouāre one of them - get out of here.ā But āOhana means familyā seems like it was something her parents said a lot, and āStitch isnāt one of us,ā is something sheās heard from Nani (absolutely a Badger primary.) I think a big reason Lilo values hula dancing is because hula dancing is important to Nani.
So now Iām leaning towards Lilo being a young Bird, trying to cobble together a system for understanding the world under non-ideal circumstances. Sheās very comfortable believing fantastical things, and is cool with accepting that Stitch is a weird kind of dog. Like Tarzan and Atlantis, Lilo and Stitch is lightly critical of that Badger ethos: the group is wonderful, yes - but the group will not always be there. The conclusion Lilo (and the film) comes to is: Ohana means family, family means never getting left behindā¦ but sometimes people leave. Either because they want to, or because they have to. What you have to do is remember them. You make them part of yourself. As Lilo puts it, "Iāll remember you, though. I remember everyone that leaves." I think this is such a lovely way of understanding Bird primaries, which unfortunately have a reputation for being cold and detached.
In terms of secondary, I think Lilo is probably a Lion. Sheās very direct, very honest, terrible at lying, and unintentionally trails destruction. Nani tries to give her a kind of script to follow when the social worker comes over - but even in the moment she seems to know itās kind of a lost cause. However, Lilo is also really young and the narrative doesnāt give her the opportunity to solve many problems. So I would not be surprised if Lilo's secondary looks different when she gets older. She is fascinated by Stitch, and Stitch is a shapeshifter-mimic. Heās kind of a cartoon version of a Snake secondary. Maybe that's a clue that Lilo's best self is a Snake Secondary too, but she hasnāt built a bridge to that part yet. Eh, I could see it either way. Definitely an Improvisational secondary though.
NANI PELEKAI (2002)

Nani is a very Burnt Badger primary. Thereās this recurring thing with her and her love interest David, where theyāre kinda dating, or were datingā¦ either way, Nani canāt quite bring herself to let him into her life. Even though she likes him, he likes her, and he even gets along with Lilo. She spends a lot of the film looking like sheās 100% focused on her little sister in a Snake primary wayā¦ but Burnt Badgers look like miserable, stressed-out Snakes, and that is absolutely Nani. She clearly used to have a big community - at one point she even tries to leverage it for a job. But I think she responded to the death of her parents by closing up, refusing to let anyone new close to her. She might lose them too, and that would hurt too much.Ā
This film is also really good at putting Nani in situations that would be really rough on a Badger primary specifically. Nani clearly feels deeply connected to her Hawaiian culture - sheās an accomplished hula dancer, she loves surfing, and in the most heartbreaking scene of the movie she sings āAloha Oeā to Lilo, when she thinks child protective services are going to take her away in the morning. This is famously a song written by deposed Hawaiian Queen Lili'uokalani, after she was forced to leave her people. These are all things that Nani pulls on to give her strength. Howeverā¦ she is also working as an honestly quite objectified waitress/hula dancer in a theme park-ified version of Hawaii catering to tourists. Sheās not happy there, and it's an important moment when she leaves.Ā
Even when sheās in really serious trouble, Nani canāt bring herself to tell anyone whatās going on, to get help or even just emotional support - and that's the Burnt Badger talking. When she is absolutely at her witās end and has no idea what to do, she grabs David and she grabs Lilo and they all go surfing. Itās that Badger primary need for community, even if thereās no way that community is going to help.
Nani is probably a Bird secondary. She practices when she's nervous and has a lot of skills - but is much more overwhelmed during the wacky finale than Lilo, and definitely needs a second to get it together and figure out the situation. She conceptualizes ādealing with Liloā as a skill that she has learned and gotten better at: sheāll build little ātrapsā to catch her younger sister, and can translate things into āLilo.ā I think she may have constructed a bit of an Actor Bird model for dealing with her sister (and another for dealing with her boss.) Lilo will use bits of her system to argue with Nani, and clearly expects this strategy to work.Ā Ā
LILO. Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind, or forgotten.Ā NANI. I hate when you use āohanaā against me.
CAPTAIN AMELIA SMOLLET (2002)

If Nani and Kida share a deep connection to their cultural history, Captain Amelia and Kida share this incredibly direct, blunt, borderline rude Lion secondary. Only Amelia's is is less 'cultural misunderstanding' and more just... British.
Captain Amelia absolutely rubs Jim Hawkins and Doctor Doppler the wrong way (an occupational hazard of being a very loud Lion secondary.) But she also comes off as extremely trustworthy, which something you get from the You-Move secondaries (Lion and Badger.) Amelia is a version of Robert Louis Stevensonās Alexander Smollett (just also a cat girl, and in space) and this bit from Treasure Island suits Treasure Planet equally well: āContrary to all my notions, I believe you have managed to get two honest men on board with you, that man [Captain Smollet] and John Silver.āĀ
Of course, Captain Amelia wins over Jim and Doppler once they understand that she wants her crew to be equally direct right back at her. She wants all the information, as quickly as possible, so she can make the best decisions. Her eyes light up when Doppler tells her sheās wrong about how supernovas work... because sheās able to use the new knowledge to create a daredevil way to escape the situation. Near the end of the film, Jim comes up with a crazy solution that involves a piece of alien tech. He knows how the tech works, doesnāt have time to explain it. But because theyāve had enough practice being honest with each other, Amelia just does what he says - no questions asked.
This is also why she gets so offended when John Silver tries to flatter herā¦ and Silverās good at flattering. He charms his crew, he charms Jim. But Amelia tells him to ākeep that kind of flim-flammery for your space court flooziesā because of course the two captains on opposite sides of the mutiny are foils. Silver makes Jim feel important and special. Captain Amelia tells him point-blank when heās being an idiot and gives him no special treatment. The nuanced position this film takes is that Jimā¦ kinda needs both.Ā
In this movie about treasure hunting, Captain Amelia is the only character who doesnāt seem to care about the āLoot of a Thousand Worlds" at all. She is here to do her job, and is deeply skeptical about treasure hunting in general. Her speech at her First Mateās funeral makes her priorities clear: āMr. Arrow was a fine spacer. Finer than most of us can ever hope to be. But he knew the risks, as do we all. Resume your posts. We carry on.ā Her highest praise is that Arrow did his job well... and part of doing your job well is making peace with the fact that you might not make it out alive. She takes her job, her title, and her ship extremely seriously.Ā
So, Amelia is definitely an Idealist primary, and her Cause seems to revolve around being the best captain possible andā¦ going on adventures. This is also the case with Doppler, who she ends up with at the end. He frames his treasure hunting trip in very Badger primary language when heās talking to Jimās very Badger Primary momā¦ but in reality he just wants to go on an adventure.Ā
I could honestly see either Lion or Bird primary for Amelia. But, the fact that sheās ex-military and still in good enough standing to write Jim a recommendation letter makes me lean Bird. (I think a Double Lion Amelia would have burned more bridges.) Also, the rules and organizational system she lives by seem to exist outside of her in a very Commodore Norrington sort of way. Itās not something she feels internally, and this is comforting. Honestly, Amelia gives off very Commodore Norrington energy in general, and heās a pretty loud Bird primary.Ā
HELEN "ELASTIGIRL" PARR (2004)

Helenās superpower is āflexibility,ā so of course sheās going to be an Improvisational secondary. I'm going with Lion instead of Snake because - like Captain Amelia and Kida - Helen is very comfortable being incredibly direct. She actively sets up confrontations, waits in the dark for Bob after he stays out late with Frozone, then actually gets in a plane to confront him when she thinks heās having an affair.
Bob Parr is also a Lion secondary, and unlike Helen (who is able to turn down the volume during Dash's parent-teacher conference) he has trouble even softening what he says, phrasing it in a way thatās palatable to the person heās talking to. That trait gets him in trouble with Buddy/Syndrome, then his boss at the insurance company, and thereās also the implication that the government keeps relocating them because Bob keeps blowing their cover. (This is 100% the case in a cut scene set at a neighborhood barbecue, where Bob appears to cut off a finger and instead breaks the knife.)Ā
I also think the fact that Helen and Bob are both Lion secondaries is a big part of what makes their relationship function. Lion secondaries seem to really value the opportunity to have arguments and fightsā¦ while also knowing the interaction is fundamentally safe, and isnāt going to spill over into the other parts of their life. When Bob gets back late, he and Helen fight in a way that honestly just seems like their way of blowing off steam. Theyāre both able to turn it off completely when the kids walk into the room.Ā
Helen also calls herself out for āoverreactingā and has to force herself to take a moment to think when she first figures out that Bob is lying, a very Lion secondary moment. She gives Violet the insanely Lion secondary advice that āWhen the time comes, youāll know what to do. Itās in your blood.ā Edna Mode is also a cartoonishly loud Lion secondary, and I'll bet that shared secondary is a big part of why she adores the Parrs. Also, Helen loves her motorcycles, which at least in fiction is a very Lion-secondary coded mode of transportation.
Helenās flexibility extends to her primary as well. When we first meet Elastigirl in the ādocumentaryā prologue, sheās completely happy doing the superhero thing while Mr. Incredible is already thinking about settling down. But, in the main timeline of the movie, Helen seems perfectly happy doing the suburbia thing and raising the kids. Then in the sequel, after the Deavors convince her that she can do the most good by being a poster child for non-threatening Supers, she has a fantastic time doing *that.* The fact that sheās able to change her worldview so easily without having a big emotional crisis about it (the way that Bob does) makes me think sheās probably a Bird primary. That difference in primaries seems to be where most of the friction in their relationship comes from.Ā
Helen actually tells us her philosophy in the sequel: āIf laws are unjust there are laws to change them, otherwise itās chaosā and āWorld is what it is, we have to adapt.ā Itās a bit Badger flavored - work within the system, adapt to the system - but the way she lays it out is Bird. And then she gets a little tipsy and starts debating philosophy with the villain for fun. Which is a very Bird primary activity.
VIOLET PARR (2004)

Violet feels very at odds with both her family and her worldā¦ and since sheās a Badger primary, thatās especially rough. She wants to fit into a community, but there is no community for her. Sheās the only member of the family who actively does not want powers: āWe act normal, Mom! I want to be normal (...) What do you know about normal? What does anyone in this family know about normal?āĀ We also get the line, āMom and Dadās lives might be in danger, or worse - their marriage.ā Which is definitely a joke about Violetās slightly cartoonish Badger primary priorities.Ā
It makes absolute sense that sheās so hung up on the idea of popular dreamboat Tony, at the center of so much community, since that's exactly what she wants. And because she herself is very not normal, she tries to hide - both with her superpower and with her hair. Violet is the first computer animated character who wears their hair long and loose, and the animators put in the effort because itās so tied in with her character. As she gets more and more in tune with her family over the course of the film, the way Violet wears her hair changes. Her mom tucks it behind her ear, her dad comments that he likes this new way sheās wearing it better. She eventually pushes it back with a headband because sheās not hiding from them anymore. Violet is happy and effective being a part of the superhero team that is her family. Itās interesting that her powers (invisiblity, creating force-fields around herself) are fantastic support/team-attack powers, but not that useful on their own.
However, one more source of friction between Violet and the rest of the family is that sheās the only non-Lion secondary. Her little brother Dash is a Lion. (Heās probably a Double Lion like his father, theyāve both even got a little of that Glory Hound Lion primary thing.) But Violetās powers keep her out of sight, she is the opposite of confrontational. It took me a second to recognize her as a Snake secondary, because most fictional Snakes are much more comfortable around peopleā¦Ā but Violet is also in a less-than-ideal situation. Still, she is observant, good at picking up on whatās going on around her, and uses those things to solve problems. Itās her idea to track down Syndrome using the coordinates heās put in the rocket, and in the sequel sheās the one who figures out how to use Jack Jack like a gun, and successfully turns the out-of-control ship around.
Violet is sneaky, using her abilities to spy on her parents and stow away on her mom's trip. She doesnāt like using her snake secondary at other people - sheās very self-contained - but she is more than happy to direct it out at the world. Violet is also perceptive when it comes to people, and will often just come right out and say things like āAre we going to talk about itā¦ the elephant in the roomā or āI think Dad has made some excellent progress today, but I think itās time we wind down now.ā Which can look a little like Lion... but in this case, it's definitely Neutral Snake.

I am getting better, definitely. I was sick for the better part of a week, and I am still pretty tired, but I am feeling more human again every day.
What kind of books are you reading? I try reading a bunch of books every year, but I am gloriously failing this year, I haven't been able to participate in book club much either. I need to find a balance again... and it is hard to keep off of my phone. What's your favorite book? Any recommendations?
With fall finally feeling like fall, it's ideal reading weather. Burn some candles, have a nice mug of a hot beverage and a blanket over your lap, some atmospheric music in the background.. ugh maybe I should just get to it again as well... I have a huge stack of unread books and manga (did I tell you yet I got the twst manga too? Only the first volume was available yet, the rest is in pre-order for now, but it looks GORGEOUS the art is fantastic!)
As for twst, glorious masquerade is here, and I am anxiously waiting for the Idia card to drop. I have my 200 pulls ready so he is guaranteed, but I hope he doesn't make me go all the way. Fingers crossed.
As for my OC's. I will GLADLY share, but I am SO SORRY I cannot possibly keep this brief... so I added a cut, and please feel free to just.. ignore it if it's too much, I love my OC's loads and am always a little embarrassed to talk about them because I will gush and this is... so so so long. Disclaimer before diving into my OC's (also for other people reading this). All these OC's are female, I am aware NRC is an all boy's school and this makes no sense, but these are my OC's and my alterations to the storyline, and I just go for a mixed school (with more additions, but more on that later). Some of these are more developed than others, but I love them all dearly.
Okay so I have 6 twisted wonderland OC's aside from a Yuusona which is a blatant self-insert/Yuu for in the games. I'll share a visual (the visuals are all made with the Rinmaru fantasy generator + 2 pieces of my own mediocre art) and a little blurb on their Unique magic, personality, 'storyline' (and partner, as most of them are made 'for' a specific character) and other relevant things, if there is such a thing, cause not all of them have that much. There are some very clear and some less clear Disney references in most of them, especially the unique magics. At least I tried.
Dannah Caliiya (Pronounced: Day-nah Kalee-ya)

Dannah is a Gazelle beastman, and a Savanaclaw student. She is happy-go-lucky, carefree, and very athletic. She is of average intelligence, but has massive trouble concentrating, a personification of the worst of my ADHD, if you will. She gets literal zoomies and brain zoomies, which make her a menace to have in class (especially Trein), but a delight to have in sports clubs. She is part of Savanaclaw's spelldrive team, and actually one of their star players. Her magic skills are mediocre, but her stamina is unrivalled, she can outrun nearly all other Savanaclaw members.
Her partner is -of course- Leona, and the idea came off of a romeo and juliet-esque 'forbidden' romance of what would traditionally be considered not-done, in the sense of an absolute commoner and royalty, but with a hidden layer of what could be considered a prey animal and a predator (even though beastmen don't necessarily live by those dynamics). She is, by all means, Leona's 'herbivore' (affectionate).
Her unique magic is Everything the light touches, a spell that makes a bright light appear in a location of her choice. The brightness depends on the power of the spell, and can either light a way (even through magical darkness) or temporarily blind other people.
She expresses affection towards friends, family and romantic partners by gently bonking her forehead into theirs. For Lions, rubbing ones face against someone else is generally a more intimate gesture, which will lead to some awkward misunderstandings in the beginning of the friendship between her and Leona.
Lexi Greydance
Lexi is another Savanaclaw student, and she is also a beastman. It's not very clear from the dress up generator, but she is a Crocodile beastman. She is not a very book-smart kinda gall. Practical magic is her forte, but no one ask her any theoretical stuff, she'll draw a blank and just guess (and guess wrongly 9/10). She's overall pretty charming but has no filter, which makes her come across as blunt or sometimes even rude to those that don't know her. She does mean well. She's pretty athletic, but doesn't necessary act on it. Loves sunbathing cause she's always cold. She is pretty but doesn't put much effort in it, hot mess couture, she has this permanent "just woke up look." Her unique magic is "your head is in the clouds" Clouds appear around a targets head, blinding, deafening and disorienting them for the duration of the spell. Works best on 1-3 human-sized targets, but more is possible, it just gets harder to keep the spell going/or the spell weakens. Training can better this eventually.
She gets paired with Jack, and her role is not necessary one of a student, but more of a house 'mother' by the lack of a better word. She is actually around the age of the students, and is there as an aid to the housewarden, whoever it may be. She divides chores for the students and makes sure they're done, helps organize school- and dorm activities, oversees clubs... She gets along with Leona well enough, and they have a bond of mutual respect. They leave each other alone most of the time.
Mei Meduzo
Meduzo means Jellyfish in esperanto and she is a Jellyfish-mermaid, based on a phantom jellyfish, also known as Stygiomedusa. So I thought the name was a nice mix of origins, translation and an alliteration.
As a mermaid, I think it's quite easy to guess she's part of Octavinelle, and she is also part of the fish mafia (Azul/Floyd/Jade). She is calm, collected and polite. She is very charming and intelligent, but errs on the lazier side for actually using her skills. She is a musician, able to sing and play violin. She works in the Mostro lounge, either behind the bar or playing background music. She also sometimes participates in their more shady business dealings; I'd like to call her Floyd's squeezing buddy. All her earnings go to luxury products, mostly makeup, accessories and clothes. She likes spoiling herself.
(since scientists still don't really know how the Stygiomedusa catches prey with their very drape-like tentacles (there are not many spotted yet), one of the theories is that prey basically gets smothered and suffocated in the drapetacles. So, I Imagine she can help Floyd with squeezing, although she is more elegant about it.)
I have no unique magic for her yet and I am not sure if I will ever get her any. Her partner is Jade. They both have the same brand of customer service smile and politeness, with some darkness lurking under the surface. They are deeply in love, but no one (except for those very close to them) knows about their relationship, just cause they are mostly reserved in public.
Leah Blackwell
A shorter one in between, as a little resting place for you, if you're still reading. We're past the halfway point hahah, I am so sorry. I just go ham when I can ramble about my OC's.
Leah is a concept more than an actual OC. She is a princess, but I don't know of where just yet, and she is at NRC to learn how to be *independent*. She was raised extremely sheltered though, always had servants do stuff for her.
She ends up in Scarabia and is best friends with Kalim, and in turn, a huge pain in the behind for Jamil, who now has to practically babysit TWO spoilt children that HONESTLY don't know any better. She tries out to help but will 10/10 accidentally set the kitchen on fire doing the dishes.
Aestrid Anktha

another one of my silly drawings Drawing context: Jamil has been up since 4am prepping and says that he is 'fine' and 'doesn't need any help'. Aestrid has a dark aesthetic but a soft personality. She loves reading and learning. If you need help acing exams, she's gonna be your key to succes. She will read an entire antology of magic for some light bedtime reading. She is always willing to help others out, maybe even a little bit of a pushover (make that definitely, she is definitely a huge pushover). She'll stay up late to tutor those who ask nicely. You do have to ask nicely. She will take over any and all chores or at least help. BUT if the chore is a punishment, she won't, purely out of principle. She follows school rules, values good grades, but also a proper balance of free time and chores.
Her unique magic is "Itty bitty living space" - shrinking someone to a tiny size, and sealing them in a magical bottle. They don't run out of oxygen nor do they get hungry or thirsty, it's confinement. Not death. Once the bottle is opened or destroyed the person gets back to their regular size.
She is in Scarabia, and she is Jamil's girlfriend. Their relationship is a slow-developing one, because she is extremely shy, and it's easier for her to hang out with Kalim than Jamil, even though she has a massive crush on the latter. And since Jamil is so guarded and rarely shows his true colors, it takes a while for them to get close. They bond over chores though, Aestrid always helping out Jamil when he's doing servant tasks on top of vice housewarden chores and some of the housewarden chores as well.
Melanie Furea
[picture is a temporary placeholder made on picrew, I actually want to draw her]. This is my most recent and most elaborate OC. This one has the most story-info, is the only one not at NRC (so could technically be integrated into the story without making NRC a mixed school), and she is the one I am most proud of (I think Dannah, Aestric and Melanie are my three main babies). The story has some obvious mistakes, plotholes and otherwise still, so please ignore these as I am still finetuning her and figuring out how blot etc works precisely. I know you're not really into twst that much anymore, so idk how much you know of chapter 6, but there are some spoilers in here, just so you know. I will keep most things vague.
Melanie Furea - her friends call her Mel, at least they would, if she had any friends. Her family had been tied to the Shroud family long before they got cursed, already indebted because of a personal matter between ancestors, where a Furea promised servitude from their family to the Shrouds, in exchange for getting their family saved. The exact details are unsure, but the Furea family wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Shrouds. Then, when hundreds of years ago the Shrouds got cursed, and their servants got a hereditary curse placed upon them as well. As the Shrouds are forced to be near sources of blot, burning them incessantly before it starts eating at their own energy, the Fureas keep producing blot, overblotting if the blot doesn't get dealt with, forcing them to stay one the Isle of Woe as well, where there's the necessary precautions, or near a Shroud when they leave the Isle. If there is too much blot produced, it's a quick overblot without even having to use magic, and they will die
Somewhere a few generations back, the bond was no longer one of exact servitude, as neither families truly remember what that is for, but since they do kind of need each other to balance out the curses, they keep working on the isle as assistants/higher ups at Styx. Melanie's parents were the first to try and get away from that all, devising a plan to escape, with a magical item that they acquired that would take away their blot accumulation. It cost them all their money, and they hadn't gotten far before noticing that it was a scam. They died in their escape attempt, leaving little Melanie behind. She was 10 at the time, old enough to realize what was happening. Melanie now works for Styx, mostly as Idia's personal assistant, staying in contact with him, even when he's at NRC. They basically grew up together, the Shroud parents taking pity on her and taking her in after her parent's death. This was also one year after the Ortho-incident, so they were hoping having someone around of his age would make it easier to overcome his grief and get him out of his shell again. It didn't help much, but she is closer to Idia than anyone else (except of course Otho IA). They regularly game together and he can talk normal to her. If anything, he kind of bosses her around sometimes.
She used to dream of leaving the island, fueled by stories told by her parents, but what happened to them was enough of a shock for her to give up said dream. Now she kind of lives a meaningless existence, following Idia's lead in online escapism, having online alter egos that are living out big adventures in safer online environments.
Since there isn't much to do for her besides work and game, and there are very little people for her to socialize with, she is a bit harder to get along with. She is kind of sarcastic and has pretty high walls built around her, and most people who work at Styx need to avoid her anyway because people with low magic can get affected by the constant blot-production.
She has a little bit of a crush on Idia too, but chooses to ignore that and handles her emotions with more sarcasm and a little distance and kicking his ass at rhythm games. Because of her curse, she is planning on not being selfish like her parents and have her bloodline die out. It's not like the Shrouds 'need' them anymore anyway, as long as they return to Styx regularly they can travel around just fine.
which leaves me with an interesting idea for if she and Idia were to ever have kids, if that would break both familial curses??
Her unique magic is blooming love "get off my case" - a defensive spell which makes white flowers appear. They are harmless unless touched and then they paralyze the person who's touched them, effectively being a barrier between her and people trying to close.
Underneath is some more brainrot and ramble i pulled straight from discord, so if it's a little more chaotic that's why. Hercules is one of my favorite movies and Idia is my favorite together with Leona, which is why I put so much effort in this OC. I just simply had way more to play with for Idia, as chapter 6 has so much more lore than chapter 2. No matter how much I love Leona, his story was so far the worst, and I am still a little salty about that.
discord blurb 1: "3 am Melanie thoughts: since there's some physical representation of the curse as there is with the Shrouds, I'm putting it in her hair as well. It's pitch black, like a manifestation of blot. It looks like a strange mix of fluid/gaseous, but it's neither, with little drips falling down but never hitting the floor. It generally looks wavy/curly, but also changes shape with emotions, though never color. When she's excited, angry or generally experiencing intense emotions, it becomes more curly/wild/voluminous looking. When sad/shy/deflated/anxious it becomes flatter and flatter, even hanging in front of her face (think Violet from the Incredibles). She mostly wears it in a ponytail though, to keep it out of her face since she hates it as a reminder to why she's practically chained to the Isle."
discord blurb 2: "Oh and considering Idia's feelings around her, she's always been better at hiding feelings so where Idia was a shutin and became increasingly anxious around people, she's mostly been harboring anger which makes her mostly a little intimidating and generally hard to approach. So i am standing with my Idia being both attracted to her but also intimidated by her on a personal level, but professionally and for gaming opportunities they get along just fine. He has a habit of still kind of ordering her around without thinking about it even when she's off the clock, and she will 100% just chuck the things he needs at his head whenever she's off the clock, which serves as a great reminder."

I have so much feelings about them and I love talking about them, but I also always feel a little embarassed cause I don't want to push them in people's faces. Who changed Lola Bunny?
Malcolm D. Lee explained, āThis is 2021. Itās important to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters. ā¦ So we reworked a lot of things, not only her look, like making sure she had an appropriate length on her shorts and was feminine without being objectified, but gave her a real voice. For us, it was, āLetās ground her athletic prowess, her leadership skills, and make her as full a character as the others.'ā

So, gone are her curves, thigh-high drawstring shorts and midriff-baring crop top. Instead, Lola Bunny now takes on a sportier look wearing a more standard basketball vest and leggings under her track shorts.
But, let's see more deeply what determinated this choice:
1. Being mad at a fan art is sad, people.
Before, a sad 50 yo guy starts complaing about how "cancel culture" or "politically correct" ruined his life - Really? Changing a cartoon bunny from a movie you didn't see for a decade ruined your life? Wow. Someone should really review the list of their priorities -, let's see how really Lola looked in the 1996 original Space Jam.

Yes, Lola walked in a sexy way that show off her curves, or at least she seemed to have curves (a little breast, tight waist, long legs, bootie), but those are not big as in the fan art you are seeing around, and Lola's curves are not evidenced during the match or when she played. Is more her attitude and posture that made her look sexy. However, althought her curves clearly changes every time she is doing something different, from action to action, there are some scenes in which she is purposely made sexy, with saxophone music as soundtrack and male-gaze sections that ends in the same way, Lola surrounded by a bunch of horny and howling cartoon guys.
That's appropriate with Jessica Rabbit: she is purposely made and designed as a parody of the femme fatale from old hard boiler movies, in which attractive, mysterious women were portrayed as evil and manipulative gals who hide criminal intentions. Jessica, with her intentionally exaggerated body, subverted the misogyny of 40s and 30s detective movies: she is kind-hearted, truly loves her naive and goofy husband Roger and uses her powers (beauty and cunning) to protect him. Her body too is used for comic sketches, while this not happens for Lola, that's just a serious and indipendent basketball player. So, the male obsession for her body is out of place, expecially because she reacted with anger at being misconsidered only for being an attractive female bunny. āDon't call me dollā is her catch phrase. So, it seems strange she didn't react at all at the very sexualized presentation at the final basketball match: Lola simply shows her basketball skills, ignoring or accepting passively the reaction of the honey crowd of wolves around her. (Please, notice the association: Lola āadmirersā are wolves, predators, while Lola, their object of desire, is a rabbit, a prey)
This is the cartoon version of cat calling: they are like a group of men who sit on their porches and whistle at girls everyday when they walk in from of them. A normal girl or woman would pass over this thing, even if they are bothered, unconfortable or embarassed, because they are more scared by a possible violent reaction of this whistling horny guys at their legitimate anger objections. But here, we are talking of Lola, a strong Looney Tunes bunny, and she could smash that damn basket ball on wolves' face, breaking all their teeth. That would be very a Looney reaction. But Lola doesn't react at all at this situation. Here, on my opinion, screenplayers missed an opportunity, but probably they thought to have already did too much with Lola's personality and āgirl powerā.
Remember also that Lola is the only young cartoon female character we see in the whole movie. So we can't do a proper comparison with other female relevant characters' rapresentation. (See here for a deeper analysis of Lola's origin and development: X)

However, compared with Bugs, Lola looks more fit, more humanized than Bugs. Lola has clearly a definited breast and booty, but it looks like is more her posture that makes them relevant. Lola has clearly shoulders back to show the rack. Bugs is anthropomorphic but remains an animal, has no shoulders or pectorals more like a human and looks a bit over-weight (fat belly). And his posture don't keep that stomach in, chin up, and march forward.

Lola, on the other hand, has a more human structure. That's why I say she has curves. An example are Mickey and Minnie who are two beans in the same way it is not that Mickey is a bean and Minnie has small tits, they are structurally alike.
Lola's body remembers highly No-Ribs-Jasmine from Aladdin (see the gif for reference). That unrealistic Barbie-like waist that was so popular in the 90s and 80s. (See here for references: X and X)
Now, we are changed a lot from the past 24 years. Barbies didn't have that impossible, unrealistic waist-line anymore, Disney princess concept has changed (see Merida and Moana).
Lola concept is changed in 2012: her design for the new cartoons is totally different and her personality too. She wear a blue or violet dress, almost flat-chested and she was made annoying and silly, just to make a contrast with Bugs smarter. Just like Daffy Duck is dumb as hell and his new girlfriend, Tina Russo (no more dear old Melissa Duck), is way smarter than him. Tina is tough, street-smart, rebellious and feisty. But we will see this thing in the next point.
2. People on the upper floors hated Lola personality.
Lola Bunny had only few lines in Space Jam, but she definitely passed the first impression that she was draw only for make male characters fall in love. Lola was a good basketball player and show it off, in front of a skeptical and then astonish bunch of cartoon guys and also Michael Jordan. She also had a strong personality and said it clear to Bugs she didn't like being called "doll". Lola was beauty and curvy, but not a cheerleader. Lola was a basketball player. Remember this part, because we will talk about basketball in the next point.
If at the box office Space Jam was a success, at Warner Bros there were those who turn up their noses, and they are important people, from the upper floors, who accused the film with Michael Jordan of having completely distorted the philosophy of the Looney Tunes. They blamed Lola Bunny more than everything else. Producers of Warner Bros said she was too perfect for the moody group of Warner cartoons: she was too sensual, provocative and independent, totally alien to that core of crazy characters that act as an exaggeration of the vices of 'man.
And fans hated her too. Chuck Jones, creator of the Merrie Melodies said: "Lola Bunny is a character with no future, sheās a totally worthless character with no personality."
So, Lola Bunny was deleted. Lola would make only some brief apparitions in some comics edited by DC Comics, in Baby Looney Tunes, in which she was a toddler with a very similar personality and resemblance to Space Jam adult version, and also as playable character in some unsuccessful videogames.
Years passed and projects for a sequel of Space Jam never become reality, so in 2003 Warner Bros relased Looney Tunes Back in Action. But Lola wasn't here, because the movie purposely want to make a deep cut with what we saw in Space Jam, according to what said it's director Joe Dante. This movie was a totally failure, but it gave back to Looney Tunes their craziness.
Years passed again, but this time is 2011, 10th of May on Cartoon Network was relased the second episode of The Looney Tunes Show. The series aimed to strongly relaunch the Looney Tunes, long gone from the glories of the past, updating the stories of Bugs Bunny and associates in a sitcom key, with the rabbit sharing a house with Daffy Duck in a suburb of Los Angeles. All interspersed with sketches by Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner done in CGI and the updated return of the Merrie Melodies. But the big news of the second episode is that LOLA BUNNY RETURNED.
And Lola was a character with some relevance within the series, even if something didn't seem right with her. Lola looked different, she was no longer the rabbit version of the femme fatale seen in Space Jam: she was naive, talkative, with her head in the clouds, crazy to the point of becoming Bugs Bunny's stalker. Bugs after having fallen in love with her at first glance understands on the first date that he absolutely can't stand Lola. She is no longer the Lola we used to know, even if the appearance is similar and the name is the same. Lola is effectively a Looney Tunes now. And the fans like her, the public like her, Warner Bros like her.

But this is a big walk in behind from the indipent character we used to know in Space Jam. Lola was turned into the stereotype of the crazy girlfriend for a while. And this is not a surprise, if we remember that in 2012 were popular the "overly attached girlfriend" meme template. (See here for references: X)
However, in The Looney Toons Show Lola has some very funny moments, while in Space Jam she was more serious and a little out of space among the other characters. (See here for references: X)
3. What women wear when they play basketball?
Women's National Basketball Association was only created in 1996. So, women's basketball were not considered - and still is not considered - as important as men's basketball at the time Space Jam was filmed.
In Space Jam 2 there will be WNBA players with a significant role, for example Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike.
Professional female athletes aren't that curvy because curves are determined by body fat and they have a little.
As a busty volleyball player, I can say, dear people, breats could be very annoying during sport activities: it could be a pain, when you run or jump. That's because a lot of women wear sport bra to compress and support their breast. Sports bra may also include layered cups or a high neck to keep everything in place and protect from painful hits, so women can be safe and comfortable during workouts.
Female basketball players didn't wear crop-tops and tight shorts to play. They wear exactly what Lola wears in the picture above: long sleeveless tees, large shorts and maybe protective gears such as knee pads, sleeves or braces to reduce chronic pain caused by the immense burden put on the knees in basketball, to prevent bruises caused by collisions and hard fall and to provide support after a significant knee injury like an ACL tear. They could wear also compressive arms sleeves to help muscles that are sore or overworked to recover faster. The sleeve enables your blood flow to circulate quicker to the heart, which helps you heal and recover quicker.
Wow. WNBA wears Exactly what wear NBA players. So surprising.

4. This is only a promotional character sketch, not what Lola would look in the movie.
Space Jam 2 would be developed in CGI and there are a little preview frames going around, included one showing Lola jumping and you can see her breast shape. But she totally looks like a comic cartoon character. It's not humanized. It's not designed to be the sexy love interest. She doesn't look out of space among the others anymore, expecially because seems that there would be also Tweety's Granny and Melissa Duck or Tina Russo as players too.

5. Reality.
Really? You want a human anthropomorphic rabbit? Well, Lola as a rabbit would have something like six nipples, but no human-like breast. And, also, real life girls have ribs. No one in real life is that thin. Oh, well, if you don't considered Pixee Fox, a model who had surgically removed six ribs and wears daily a compressive bust corset (yes, like the one that made Elizabeth Swan faint in the first movie of Pirate of the Caribbean) to look like a cartoon fairy (Tinkerbell, you are the one to blame for this).

In conclusion, we can say that all this controversy is based only on a porny fan art and that Lola ānewā graphic isn't change too much from the original Space Jam movie. It's just a little more cartoonish.
We can also firmly remeber that Space Jam 2 is going to be developed for children, to relunch Looney Tunes among new generations of children, who are the largest buyers of merchandising (including Happy Meals surprises) and consumers of new cartoons that surely would be developed, if Space Jam 2 would be a success.
However, we should admit that those kids probably know better the 2011 version of Lola than her original version and that 2011 version was more appreciated by fans and producers. Lola's voice actress, Kristen Wiin won BTVA People's Choice Voice Acting Award in 2012 and was nominated for that prize also about three times in the following years. Also Rachel Ramras, Lola's voice actor was nominated for BTVA People's Choice Voice Acting Award in 2016 for her role in Looney Tunes: Rabbit Run.
We don't know anything about Lola's personality in Space Jam 2, so we can't do a proper comparison or a prevision, but, according to what Malcolm D. Lee said, we can assume that original personality of Lola would be preserved.
The controversy is relevant only for Lola's body and not for her personality, and that's is highly rappresentative of what impressed more this bunch of grow-up kids. They grow up to be like the horny wolves and they are howling because their prey is not available anymore.
And, to be honest, being so obsessed with the breast and the body of a cartoon character (that is clearly made up for kids) it's not sane at all. Sorry to say that, but sometimes people need to drink from a bottle of truth.

Why Cullen?
Today I bring you a post Iāve been in the process of mentally drafting for a while, a post that essentially analyzes the age old question in the Dragon Age fandom: Why is there always something with Cullen?
To do this, I am going to go through different āphasesā of Cullen discourse. My thesis and answering the titular question: Itās complicated, and I donāt think I can answer āWhy Cullen,ā but āthereās sometimes recycled discourses made about his character through the years, maybe thereās a pattern.ā When it comes to Cullenās detractors, I understand the fact that it might be frustrating to see much content for someone so āboringā when thereās more āinterestingā and āwell doneā characters (though interest is of course relevant) so it leads to a lot of vitriol from both new and old fans who think the man had too much screen time already. Furthermore, he is highly complicated man dressed as a Disney prince, and the āDisney-esqueā feel of his romance creates a dissonance between coming to terms with his problematic past and reveling in the romanticism. We can have a happy medium everyone, Ā but because of what I can only describe as ātik tok thoughtā itās become looked down upon to have problematic favorites, which leads to guilt in liking something problematic, or outright revisionism.
But liking things with problematic elements doesnāt make you a bad person.
Alright, letās begin:Ā
The first phase truly began of course with DAO with Cullenās crush on the female Circle Mage Warden. Some were endeared, others not so much. I cannot speak to this phase too much as I was around 15-16 and pretty preoccupied with my high school drama instead of fandom, though I played both DAO and DA2 upon itās release and followed updates for DA2 before it came out. Despite not being an active fandom member I was what they would call, a lurker. I knew some people liked Cullen and thought he was cute, wishing for more screen time after the game and hoping heād be in DAI through IMDB message boards (remember those?) and YoutTube comments. When news broke heād be an advisor in DAI and a romance option, I remember seeing a lot of people in those same spaces rejoice. Iām sure there were also people who werenāt so pleased, but from what I saw, people were happy. When Inquisition did release, I actually did quite a bit more lurking on tumblr despite the fact I didnāt have a blog, because I played the romance route, really gravitated toward it, and wanted to see fanart and such. People liked the romance, liked his arc and how Bioware handled his struggles with lyrium; and found it realistic. Even in my lurking days I did see some blowback on Cullen from detractors, those who didnāt think he should have been the military advisor (which canonically it makes total sense to me why heās where heās at, but I wonāt get into it here however.) But likely because I wasnāt fully āin fandom,ā my surface level understanding of how tumblr felt about Cullen was relatively positive and there was only standard fare discourse.
Phase 2: I can speak about this phase better because I established this blog in 2017. Two years after DAI was released, you still had a lot of fans who loved his romance and character, but you also saw a lot of those fans really dive into his flaws, insisting even that just focusing on the Disney Prince aspects of him reduced his character. There were also more internal debates. Would realistically Cullen be a good father was one. One thing however was for sure, there was a strange them and us line between detractors and fans, and to many fans, myself included, oftentimes the Cullen blowback would extend beyond the valid, āhey I donāt think his characterization was handled wellā or āhis redemption arc isnāt that greatā to outright vitriolic hate that blatantly ignored his PTSD and lyrium addiction, and even sometimes āyou just like Cullen because heās white.ā As a POC fan it was a fantastic thing to be accused of. I used to be more involved with discord during this period and I remember a few discussions about this as well. Even those indifferent to Cullen didnāt get it.
Overall, I have to say the air was one where people in Cullen fandom enjoyed all aspects of him, from delving into this troubled past to indulging in the Disney prince aspects of him. It was a happy medium I think, even if occasionally I would see a Cullen fan feel bad for liking him, and feel like they needed to justify it. Heck I even did and still do feel that way sometimes, like I need to justify what I like. But we all come into fandom for different reasons. I come into fandom some days for different things. Sometimes I want smut with my favorite character, other times I want more intense thought pieces and challenging fics. Great thing about fandom is that itās a bakery that has cherry tarts, cinnamon rolls, or all kinds of pie depending on your mood. Craving a different sweet treat, you can make your own. Or you can commission an artist or writer for something you fancy.
*(sexual assault mentions here late in the paragraph****)And now Iāve been warped back into Cullen/DA fandom through what I am calling phase three, where the general air on Cullen reads asā¦.very different. After having one foot outside DA fandom for a while coming back and reading the air has been different. There was the bizarre nuggetgateĀ and other things with Cullen. Now, instead of accepting his flaws and exploring him there seems to be a lot of revisionism going on, as if his past never happened or weāre supposed to ignore he was a templar. A sexually active Cullen is looked down upon but in a different way from before. Instead of smut works with him āreducing his complicated character.ā itās distasteful to write smut with him where heās sexually dominant or even just a lot of smut because he was sexually assaulted. (***Now, it is implied that he was, if you are a female Circle mage in DAO, with āsifting through my thoughts, tempting me with the one thing I always wanted but could never haveā but this is an implication. I will be honest, it is what I have implied. However, itās not there if youāre not a female Mage. He was however canonically sexually harassed in the Winter Palace, something I will always argue, even if canon treats it like a joke, even if Leliana tells him to ājust look pretty.ā Just because he is a man doesnāt make it funny that someone grabbed his bottom, and if you take Cole he flat out says āCullen is afraid.ā***)
So here I am, wondering what changed and whatās going on. Hereās what I believe: Cullen is a complicated character and his flaws and his past make him interesting to me, and they are interesting to explore. However there is nothing wrong with wanting to just explore a romantic, sexual Cullen. Heās a character with many facets. Heās romantic, determined, nostalgic, stubborn, unrelenting, loyal, driven, all things that made him seem so real. Here we get to my theory: in todayās media ācriticismsā I see peopleāparticularly younger peopleābeat themselves up for liking something problematic. Itās like every time you engage with media thatās potentially problematic you have to write essays to yourself why it is so and hold yourself accountable. I see this on tik-tok a lot and why I refer to it as ātik tok thought.ā Look at the way some young Hamilton fans talk about the musical, or heck even here, and you may see what I mean. Itās like if you donāt acknowledge the problematic aspects of the historical figures behind their fictional portrayals in the show youāre a bad person. Same thing with nostalgic Disney fans my age in younger, if you donāt clown on Ariel for āchoosing a man over anythingā (SHE LIKED THE SURFACE WORLD BEFORE SHE MET ERIC) you donāt get your brownie points.
I want to make it clear: being critical of media is good. I am glad I see young people and people my age think about the messages we are given in media, but somehow this is turned into ANALYZE EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. Yaāll Iām a grad student. Iām critical most of the time, when I come to my tumblr blogās lawn Iām here mostly to have some fun, and hey sometimes my fun is being critical. But sometimes it isnāt. You do not have to always be critical. You do not have to beat yourself up for liking something thatās problematic or write an essay about why it is as if thatās your due diligence in stanning a fictional character. Iām going to be honest I used to kind of think I had to justify my likes once, especially because of the Cullen vitriol on tumblr. I worked overtime in my early fanfic efforts to try to prove to the world I knew Cullen was problematic for fear Iād be perceived as just an idiot horny fangirl. Well, let me tell you: I largely donāt think that way anymore. If I want to just enjoy writing some smut or reading some smut with him, I am. But I think there is a second part of this in Cullen fandom currently, a revisionism of his problematic elements. Now, if you have to do mental gymnastics with a character in an effort to ignore problematic elements, perhaps you donāt like the character that much. Thatās totally okay. DA has many awesome characters to write about and stan.
So, why Cullen? For so many reasons a bit of a shit show has always followed this character. Thereās a divide between fans and his detractors and sometimes thereās a divide within the Cullen fandom. What I can extrapolate for now is the need to keep him squeaky clean and safe and away from anything āproblematicā because his of past, his templar roots, or the fact that heās white when there are POC characters with less content. It reads as a guilt associated with liking him. But please, do not be guilty. Heās not real. Templars arenāt real, mages arenāt real, Cullen isnāt real. Hereās my advice, something I learned while in my directing class in college. What my teacher always said was direct what turns you on, direct a story that gets you thinking, gets you excited. What gets you thinking and excited in a fictional world may be tons of conflict and dramatics, or it may be peace and love. Sometimes it can be both or more. Donāt shame others for coming to a bakery and wanting blueberry when you want cherry, and the baker has both, especially if the baker labels each pie, especially if the recipe for the pie has some salt in it and people like the salt. We can have it all and enjoy it all. What we want in our fiction doesnāt always align with something we may want real life. Lots of people write Modern girl in Thedas stories. Yaāll if that actually happened to one of us it would probably suck. Iād probably get killed and not even get to meet Cullen and pose around the desk to get things going, so Iād rather it not happen. However, it is fun to read about.
Again, donāt be guilty for liking Cullen, please. But if you have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to like Cullen, maybe you donāt like him at all. To that I say, there are many other amazing characters, or perhaps you could write your own.

āEmmy this room is an utter disgrace!ā Steve said exasperatedly as he looked around at the various items of clothing scattered around her bedroom. DVDs lay on the floor instead of in the designated rack, the bed was unmade and various school books were tossed onto the rug instead of at her desk.
āChill Dad.ā She mumbled as she sat cross legged, tapping at her tablet, music blaring from her stereo. āChill?ā He shot her a look āSeriously, we spent a fortune doing this room up last month. Get it tidied.ā āYeah, yeah.ā
Steve grit his teeth, jaw twitching with annoyance before, after a momentās deliberation, he crossed the room and turned off her music.
āHey I was listening to that!ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
āWell, now youāre gonna listen to me.ā He stood cross armed looking down at her. āI mean it Emily, get this sorted now, or you can forget going to Philadelphia with Brooke.ā
āBut, itās all organised, we leave first thing in the morning!ā āIt can be unorganised.ā His threat was simple but it had the desired effect.
āFine.ā She groaned, tossing her tablet to one side. āThank you.ā Steve replied, sarcastically before he left the room, shutting the door behind him. He made his way downstairs to the kitchen where Katie was prepping lunch, Jamie sat in a chair at the table on a booster seat, colouring in an activity book.
āLook, Daddy!ā he pointed to his picture. Steve leant over, one arm on the back of the chair and glanced down at the elephant his son had coloured in purple.
āA purple elephant.ā He nodded āCreative.ā
āLike in Dumbo!ā
āOf course.ā Steve smiled, Jamieās Disney film of the moment. It was one Steve could remember seeing at the theatre before he joined the army. It still creeped him out slightly, the scene with all the drunk elephants. So much so he was convinced the animator had been on some kind of mad drug fuelled trip when he drew it. He ruffled his sonās hair and then moved over to where Katie was slicing up a cucumber for the salad, reaching round to steal a piece as he dropped a kiss to her cheek.
āShe tidying it?ā Katie asked, her eyes not moving from her task.
āOnly because I threatened to stop her going to Philly.ā he snorted, leaning on the counter, looking at his wife. He reached into the salad bowl to snatch a piece of pepper and Katie slapped his hand. He grinned as she looked at him.
āBet that went down well.ā āDonāt care. Her attitude stinks.ā
āSheās a teenage girl, Steveā Katie smiled. āThatās not the point.ā āHoney, just shut the door if the mess bothers you that much.ā
Steve sighed, and rubbed at his temple. āIām surprised the door even opens with the amount of crap on the floor.ā Katie gave a little chuckle before she looked at him. āCan you get me the dressing out of the fridge?ā
He pushed himself off the counter and opened the fridge. āCaesar or Ranch?ā
āCaesar.ā She nodded after a momentās deliberation. āOh, and the cooked chicken please.ā Grabbing them, Steve turned back to Katie and passed her the items, chewing the inside of his cheek. āDo you think I was too strict?ā
Katie placed the knife down and looked at him. āStevie, stop second guessing yourself.ā She reached up to run a hand down his cheek āYouāre a great dad. All Iām saying is itās not out of the ordinary for her to have an attitude. Sheās fifteen. I was a nightmare at that age, as Iām sure Tony will delight in telling you.ā
āSpeaking of your brother, what time is he expecting us to drop Jamie off?ā āOh heās coming to pick him up.ā Katie said. āTheyāre in town anyway so said heāll be here later this afternoon. I just hope Emmy does as you told her.ā āHuh?ā
āBecause if she doesnāt, youāre gonna have to carry through with your threat. And that means youāve just flushed our night alone down the lav.ā Steve let out a groan, he hadnāt thought about that.
A little while later Katie called Emmy down for lunch. She appeared in the kitchen with a scowl and Katie saw Steve bristle slightly so she decided to get in there first and back him up.
āStraighten your face, young lady.ā She ordered sternly as Emmy sat down. āYour dadās right. That room is an absolute dump.ā Emmy sighed and reached over for a warm pitta bread, piling her plate with the salad before she took a deep breath.
āSorry. Iāll tidy it, I promise.ā Steve looked at Katie who gave him a wink as they began to eat.
āEmmy I colourded you a picture.ā Jamie pointed to the book which was to his right, out of the way of his plate.
Emmy smiled, and looked at it. āAww dude thatās awesome. Is it to pin up on my board?ā
He nodded and she bopped his nose gently, smiling back.
āI staying at Mooās tonight?ā He asked, turning to his mom.
āYeah.ā Katie looked at him as he picked up a piece of the pitta bread she had sliced into smaller strips for him āIs that okay?ā He nodded. āUncle Nee gives me juice pops. The red ones are my bestest.ā āI thought you liked the blue ones?ā Steve asked, swallowing his food.Ā āBecause theyāre the same colour as Capās Suit?ā
āRed ones better.ā Jamie nodded. āLike Iron Man.ā
Steve looked at Katie who was biting her lip, trying not to laugh at the look of utter indignation on his face.
āThis is good, Mom.ā Emmy nodded at the food on her plate. āBetter than the incinerated breakfast dad gave us.ā Steve half-heartedly glared at his daughter. āI burnt one egg.ā
āOne too many.ā She quipped, and Katie grinned, reaching over for the jug of water. Steve beat her to it and poured her a glass, sliding it over to her before he did the same for Emmy, Jamie already had his in a tippee-cup by his plate.Ā
āThanks.ā Katie smiled at him before she turned to Emmy āHey, did you get your grade back for your English essay last week?ā
āOh, yeah, I got an A.ā she shrugged.
āEmmy thatās great.ā Steve nodded at her, smiling.
āYeah well donāt get used to it. I donāt think Iāll get one again. I may have upset my tutor.ā
āWhy?ā Katie frowned āWhat did you do.ā
āWell, heās assigned us a book that is totes inappropriate.ā
āWhat book?ā Katie interrupted to ask
āThe Colour Purple. I mean itās good butā¦ā
āYeah, that is kinda heavyā¦ā Katie frowned, having read the book herself. āWhatās the angle?ā āRace, gender, and bigotry in the early twentieth century. āEmmy shrugged āI would have thought To Kill A Mockingbird would have been better but when I voiced my opinion Mr Tozer didnāt like it.ā
āSo what did you say to upset him?ā Steve arched his brow.
āExactly that. And then he told me it was his way or the highway. Donāt worry, I refrained from calling him Hitler.ā
āI guess we should be pleased then.ā Steve snorted. Emmy flashed him a grin and went back to eating.
The family made chatter for the rest of their lunch until Jamie poked at his momās arm.
āYes, Sweetie?ā āI done now. Fankoo.ā He grinned, his plate completely cleared.
āYouāre welcome, honeyā Katie ruffled his hair āCake?ā He asked hopefully.
āWhat do you say?ā Steve prompted gently.
āPlease.ā Jamie nodded.
āDo you think about anything but food?ā Emmy looked at the small boy.
āYou know he doesnāt.ā Katie sighed. āHe takes after your father in that respect.ā āThatās notĀ allĀ I think about.ā Steve grinned, as he raised a suggestive eyebrow at his wife over his glass of water.
āYeah well, thankfully he is way too young for that.ā Katie winked as she stood up to get the fruit cake she had made the day before to cut everyone a slice. As she did, she had to bite back the smirk as Emmy sighed at Steveās blatant sexual reference.
āGross.ā

Emmy did tidy her room, so she was dropped off at the coffee shop early evening with her bag which Steve was sure contained more clothes than she needed for the four nights she was away. He made a comment to that effect and the fifteen year old just rolled her eyes and explained she needed two outfits a day,Ā Ā just in case. Just in case of what, Steve had no idea, and he wasnāt sure he really wanted to know if truth be told. He made small talk with Jennifer over a coffee for a while, instructed his daughter to behave and loudly told Jennifer that if she was any trouble to pack her home straight away. Brooke rolled her eyes but gave him a hug goodbye anyway as he left. Ā By the time he had gotten home, Jamie had already been picked up leaving the two parents alone. Steve had been planning to take Katie out, but when he suggested it she shook her head and pulled a magnum of Champagne out of the fridge and held it up.
āI got a better idea.ā She grinned āHot tub party for two and take out.ā āChampagne, pizza, you in a swimsuit.ā Steve grinned, pulling her to him. āBaby, Iām sold.ā
Needless to say there wasnāt muchĀ relaxingĀ done in the hour they were in the tub, quite the opposite if truth be told. Hands and lips were all over the place, pawing at skin and kisses being exchanged with avaricious force. By the time theyād called for pizza, Katie was feeling thoroughly defiled as she sat on the sofa, wearing one of Steveās button downs and tore into a large slice of pepperoni as if she hadnāt eaten for a week. Steve grinned, tucking her damp hair behind her ear and dropped a kiss to the side of her head. They settled down to watch a film, but Katie was flat out before it was even ten minutes in and she didnāt even stir bar to murmur something to Steve when he carried her up to their room.
Steve woke the next morning, wrapped around his wife, her warm body pressed to his chest, one arm under her neck, the other draped over her waist. He sighed in contentment, it was bliss, knowing there was nothing to get up for. No constantly hungry three year old to feed, no lunches to make, no school runs, no meetings until later, nothing. Snuggling into her closer, the arm that wasnāt trapped underneath her swept her hair away from her face, before his lips skated over her jaw and down the side of her neck. As her eyelids fluttered his large, gentle hand trailed down the curve of her hip and slid between her legs, caressing the inside of her thigh. Katie took a deep breath, shifting automatically, still half asleep, spreading her legs a little wider. She rolled her head over her shoulder, blinking and she was met with those blue eyes she loved so much, the owner wearing a devilish smirk.
āMorning.ā He rasped, his voice low with sleep and desire.
āGood morning.ā She grinned, biting her lip as his hand moved back up over her stomach to her breasts underneath the shirt she was wearing and he began to tease her softly, causing her to moan as he rolled a nipple between his fingers, the sensation burning in her stomach. She rolled onto her back and Steve settled between her legs, her arms winding around his neck as he captured her lips with his, soft and slow before he pulled back to peel his shirt off her body, tossing it down the side of the bed. He turned his gaze downwards, eyeing up her blue lacy panties before he groaned and lowered himself over her again, kissing her and sliding his tongue along hers. Katie wrapped her legs around his hips, grinding against him to get any friction that she could. His hands trailed down her sides and under her back, fingers gently grabbing at the waistband of the lace before he broke the kiss and unhooked her legs from around his waist. He gently pulled her underwear down, shimmying under the covers as he removed the garment and then kissed up her right leg, his lips hot as he made his way from her ankle up to her inner thigh, pushing her legs open wider.
His actions were controlled, slow. There was no rush after all. His mouth and tongue gently worked her to distraction, flicking at her clit over and over. She was a writhing mess within minutes, her hand fisted in his hair, the other grasping at the sheets, the noises flowing freely because they didnāt have to be quiet. Her fingers tightened on his scalp and she gave a cry of his name as her hips bucked upwards, her legs tensing slightly before they flattened against the bed, her breathing heavy and ragged. With a smirk at how easy he could undo her, Steve moved back up the bed, one hand pushing his sleep pants down. Without a word he lined himself up with her, letting out a loud groan as she slid a hand between them, stroking him before guiding him inside. He moved slowly, deliberately, until every inch of him was sheathed. Katieās eyes rolled back as he stretched her, her groan was loud as he laced his fingers into hers. Steve let out a shaky little whimper as he moved his pelvis slowly, pushing back against her hands.
Every thrust was deep, slow, measured, his mouth moving from hers to her jaw, neck, collar bone. The house was quiet, nothing but the sound of soft cries and kisses could be heard as Steve continued his thrusts, whilst his wife purred into his ear, and he let go of her hands to bring one of her legs up round his hip. She let out a cry at the change of angle as he picked up the pace slightly, but not much, Katieās nails raking down his back as her pleasure rose. The sensation made him shudder and he doubled his efforts, her hands sliding down, grabbing at his flexing ass, urging him on and, as always, he was happy to oblige.
āShit, Stevie,ā the cry of his name turned into a complete babble which died in her throat as she tightened and pulsed around, him, her body shaking with pleasure.
āGod, Doll,ā Steve was right behind her as he came with a low moan, his hips thrusting until he was completely spent, his head buried in the side of his wifeās neck.
Katie tipped her head back in satisfaction, sighing softly as Steve pushed himself up slightly. He gently ran his nose up her throat, taking her bottom lip between his and he let out a loud, satisfied sigh of his own. He loved his kids, beyond anything butĀ manĀ he enjoyed being able to take his goddamned time making love to his wife without the patter of little feet across the hall meaning they were about to be interrupted. āBaby,ā he said softly, his lips gently smoothing the skin underneath her ear āHmmm?ā She asked, her hands creeping into his hair as her head rolled to the side, eyes still closed in pure bliss. āLook at me, kitten.ā She obliged, and emerald green met ocean blue as she held her husbandās gaze. He gave her a soft smile, and she reciprocated, the affection on his face blatantly evident. āI love you,ā he said, as she reached up and gently brushed the longer strands of his hair back over his forehead, āmore than you can ever knowā
āWill that still be the case when Iām old, grey and wrinkly but you still look like youāre straight out of GQ magazine?ā
Steve frowned as he looked at her, this wasnāt the first time she had mentioned that. He shook his head and sighed softly, unable to do anything but repeat what he told her the last time sheād raised the issue.
āI told you baby girl.ā he gave her lips a quick peck, āitās me and you till the end of the line.ā
After a lazy breakfast, Katie headed off to collect Jamie from Tonyās and Steve made his way into Manhattan for the two support groups of the afternoon. The first one was always the busiest and it took a little longer this week as they had a few new faces. This didnāt surprise Steve, people were still five years later coming to terms with opening up about their heartache or problems, but the core of the group were always welcoming. He had an hours break before the second, slightly quieter group so he took a walk. Their air was damp and there was a gloomy fog descending over the city, making it darker than it would normally be for the time of day, but it wasnāt cold. He grabbed a coffee from the shop round the corner and headed back to start the second meeting.
The meetings always followed the same format. There was ten or so minutes of everyone arriving, grabbing refreshments, saying hello and then they would form the usual circle and Steve would start the discussions with a chat about something heād done or seen that week that was positive before moving to something heād done or seen that week that wasnāt so positive, and then invite other people to comment and do the same, gently coaxing them into opening up.
āSo, I went on a date the other day.ā A man named David sighed. āFirst time in five years. I didnāt know what to talk about.ā
āWhatĀ didĀ you talk about?ā Steve pressed gently, patient as ever.
āSame old crap, you know? How things have changed. My job. His job. How much we miss the Mets,ā David paused taking a breath, āthen things got quiet. He cried as were serving the salads.ā
āWhat about you?ā Another man, Ian, asked hopefully.
āI cried,ā David trailed off, ājust before dessert,ā There was a slight pause, ābut Iām seeing him again tomorrow, soā¦ā
Steve gave a small smile. āThatās great. You did the hardest part. You took the jump, you didnāt know where you were gonna come down. And thatās it, itās those little, brave baby steps we gotta take, you know, to try and find purpose.ā He paused and looked around the group, biting the inside of his cheek. āI went into the ice in forty-five right after I met the first woman Iād ever loved. Woke up seventy years later and met the love of my life. She gave me hope, she gave me a purpose, a reason to keep going in the crazy new world Iād found myself in.ā He paused again and looked around at the attentive faces assembled in a circle. āYou gotta move on. The world is in our hands. Itās left to us guys. We gotta do something with it. Otherwise, Thanos should have killed all of us.ā
Steve let the meeting roll for a little longer, everyone discussing what he had said before it came to a natural end and, with a glance up, he saw Katie and Jamie pushing open the door, Katie holding a huge box full of brownies.
āLooks like youāre all in luck!ā Steve nodded towards his wife as Jamie ran across to his father who smiled and swept him up into arms, planting a kiss onto his head before replacing him on the floor. He looked over at Katie and she smiled back, placing the box of treats down on the table. She often did this, popped into a few of his sessions over the week with some form of snack for them all when she had time, her way of helping out, and Steve loved her for it.Ā
Over the next ten minutes or so, various people drifted over to the side of the room, greeting Katie and grabbing a brownie. She gave David a hug and cheekily told him to behave on his next date as Steve wrapped an arm around her waist and kissed her forehead in greeting as they waved the man away.
āHow long where you at the door?ā
āLong enough.ā She told him, knowing instantly why he was asking.
āI meant it.ā He turned to look at her.Ā āEvery word you know.ā
āI know, and for the record youāre the love of my life too.ā She grinnedĀ āMy husband, my baby daddyā¦āĀ
Steve smiled and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.Ā
āGross.ā Jamie gagged, sticking his fingers in his mouth, an action he had learnt from Emmy.
There was a pause before Steve grabbed Jamie and launched into a tickle attack until the boy was screeching and running from his dad who chased him round the hall. Katie watched her boys as Jamie feinted left and Steve let him get away, before the little boy dived under a table and out the other side of it, cackling in a way so like his father.
āDonāt think thatās gonna save you, pal.ā Steve easily vaulted the table, picking Jamie up, throwing him over his shoulder, patting his backside once with a large hand.
āMomma, help!ā Jamieās voice was punctuated with laughter and with a grin Katie strode forward and her hands went straight to Steveās sides from behind, and she began to tickle him.
āOh sh-stop it!ā Steve cackled, his ridiculously ticklish nature was always his downfall. He let Jamie down as Katie continued her attack and he whipped round, grabbing her and spinning her round. He folded her arms across her chest, pinning her back to his front as he dropped his mouth to her ear.
āYouāre gonna pay for that later.ā āPromises, promises Captain.ā

There was a presence to Katieās right and she felt the soft weight of a hand against her cheek. It was too small to belong to her man, but the perfect size and weight to belong to her boy.
āJames,ā a soft, deep voice whispered, warning in the tone, āthis is the second time Iāve told you and there wonāt be a third. Leave your ma alone. Sheās sleeping.ā
Katie sighed and stretched. āItās okay, Iām awakeā Ā
Jamie giggled and surged forward giving her a peck before falling back onto his fatherās pillow, "Morning Momma!ā
āGood morning, Sweetie.ā She yawned rolling onto her side, dislodging Lucky who had been asleep with his leg resting on the back of her knees. Ā As ever Jamie had his stuffed Cap bear with him, along with God knows how many other toys all which adorned Steveās side of their enormous bed.
āMorning, Baby.ā Steve bent over from behind her, pecking her cheek too.
āHey.ā She smiled, rolling her head to catch his lips, noticing his bare, damp chest from the shower. āWhat time is it?ā
āLittle past seven. Somebody-ā Steve glanced at Jamie, ā-was awake at half Five.ā āNot sleepy daddy.ā āReally, I didnāt notice.ā Steve replied, sardonically. Katie chuckled as Jamie frowned, the sarcasm utterly lost at him.
āMomma, we hided in the fort.ā
Steve and Jamie had made a blanket fort in Jamieās room last night in which they had hidden in for their bed time stories. Jamie had insisted they left it up, and considering it wasnāt in the way, Katie had been happy to oblige. Steve, who had gotten a lot better with dealing with the mess Jamie left around over the years had resisted the urge to fold away the blankets and his wife had pulled him out of the room when the pair of them had popped in to check on Jamie before he could change his mind.
āMighty fine Fort it is too.ā Steve ruffled his sonās hair.
āWhat time are your meetings today?ā Katie asked, looking at Steve. His groups ran at different times during the week. This way, it made sure that there was a day or night everyone could attend at least one session a week.
āLast one finishes at four today. Why you ask?ā
āWell, I thought seeing as we didnāt see Nat at the weekend, we should pop in.ā āAuntie Nat-Nat, yay!ā Jamie clapped his hands āMaybe she can come see my fort.ā āYou should tell her about it.ā Steve nodded, before his attention turned to Katie. āMight convince her to leave the compound.ā āYeah, maybe.ā
āWhat do you fancy for breakfast?ā Steve swiftly changed the subject.
āI can bake some cinnamon rolls if you want?ā āYou donāt have to do that.ā āI know, but theyāre already made so just need to go in to the oven and I also I know someone id going to ask for pancakes and he isnāt having them three days on the run.ā āWaffles?ā Jamie whipped his head round, hopefully.
āNo.ā Katie shook her head. āCinnamon rolls or cereal, your choice.ā
āCan I have both?ā
āYou two will eat me out of house and home.ā Katie rolled her eyes. āYes, if you want both you can have both.ā
āCool, man.ā Jamie nodded, in a way that was so like Emmy it made Steve turn back to face his wife from where he had ben stood at the dresser pulling out his clothes, a smirk on his face. The pair of them watched as their son announced he was going to get dressed and dropped onto the floor, heading out into the hallway, Lucky following.
Katie watched as Steve pulled on a pair of sweats and she cocked her head to one side.
āDid you seriously call me Jamieās Ma before?ā
Steve grinned. āSorry.ā āMakes me sound like Iām ninetyā she snorted.
āTry actuallyĀ beingĀ ninety.ā Steve scoffed, and Katie laughed as he started to crawl over her in the bed, pushing her back gently.
āHate to break it to you, Captain Badass, but youāre actually a hundred and five.ā
āThanks for the reminder.ā Steve muttered gently, his lips pressing to hers. She happily melted into the kiss her hands straying up and down his bare chest, before she pulled away knowing that if they carried on sheād be wanting a lot more.
āStop it.ā
āWhat?ā
āThis.ā Katie pouted.
āI only wanted a kiss.ā Steve looked at her, eyebrow raised. āYou have a dirty mind, Mrs Rogers.ā āYears of being with you.ā She shrugged and Steve laughed, standing up. As he headed across the room Katie couldnāt resist one last quip. āNice assā¦daddyā Steve turned round, a wicked grin on his face as he held his arms out at either side of him, as he walked backwards for a few steps. āItās all yours, momma.ā He smirked, before turning round and heading out to help Jamie get dressed.
The rest of Katieās day was pretty much the same as it always was. She dropped Jamie in at the day-care and headed up to her office for her fifteen minute start up meeting with Soray. After going Ā over her diary for the day, she spent most of the morning sifting through the mountain of emails and responding to the ones she needed to. After a quick chat with Emmy at lunchtime, the girl enthusiastically telling her all about how her and Brooked had run up the Rocky steps and were eating a tonne of Philly cheesesteak, Katie headed up to the boardroom for the Monthly Financial Review. Escaping at little after three, she picked Jamie up and headed to the store to grab something she could make at the compound for dinner. Once Steve was home they all jumped in the car to make the hours drive up state owards the compound.
Steve drove easily down the highway, one hand on the steering wheel, the other laying on the arm rest in between the front seats, whilst next to him Katie hummed along to the John Legend playlist that was playing. Steve cruised the Audi onto the bridge which would take them out of Manhattan and frowned gently as he noticed that the cars ahead were all coming to a halt. As Steve slowed the car down, Katie too narrowed her eyes as people started getting out of their cars, heading to the side of the bridge, pointing.
āWait here.ā Steve instructed, climbing out of the car, Captain mode engaged.
āWhatās happening?ā Jamie asked.
āDaddyās gone to see.ā Katie turned to smile at him before she turned back, watching Steve approach the side of the bridge and speak to the nearest man before looking down. His mouth dropped opened and he turned, jogging back to the car.
āYouāre not gonna believe this!ā He shook his head, excitement all over his face as Katie climbed out of the car. āCome see.ā He opened the back door of the car and unstrapped Jamie from his seat. Picking him up in his arms, Steve made his way to the side of the bridge, wife by his side and he pointed downwards.
Katie felt herself gasp at the sight- a small pod of whales leisurely making their way through the Hudson River.
āWow.ā She whispered.
āWhat are they?ā Jamie asked
āWhales.ā Steve replied. āHumpbacks, I think.ā
Steve tried to keep the smile on his face genuine, but he hated it when Jamie saw something out of place in the new world that he was born into which would have been perfectly normal in the world that they once knew. Whilst a pod of whales in the Hudson was an astounding sight for sure, and would have been unheard of even before the Snap, the fact that it was Jamieās first time ever seeing a whale made him slightly sad. They had been a pretty common sight around the ocean waters in and around the bays leading out into the North Atlantic. That was until Thanos had killed half of them.
Jamie giggled and pointed out that the biggest whale was being followed closely by a slightly smaller one, and then an even smaller one after and then a tiny one.
āDaddy, Momma, Emmy and Jamie.ā He smiled at Steve who chuckled, smoothing Jamieās hair back.
āCome on Kiddo, letās go see Auntie Natā When they arrived at the Avengers compound, the sun was just beginning to set. Steve drove round to the rear entrance and the gate creaked open as the ANPR scanners recognised the car. He parked the car in their old designated spot before he collected the bag of ingredients from the trunk that Katie had bought to make dinner with. Together the three of them headed inside, FRIDAY welcoming them all as they made their way towards the living area, and they could hear Natasha closing up a meeting.
āNat,ā Rhodeyās voice was almost pleading but Nat cut him off
āPlease.ā She begged.
Katie had a feeling she knew what she was talking about, or rather who. She glanced at Steve as they rounded the last corner to the large meeting-slash-living room and it was then that Katie could hear Natasha trying to stifle her cries. At that point Jamie ran in and jumped onto his Auntās lap hugging her tightly.
āDonāt be sad, Auntie Nat-Nat.ā He whispered, and Natasha took a deep breath, leaning her head against her nephewās with her eyes closed hugging him back.
Steve leaned against the bookshelf for a moment as Katie walked into the room, taking the bag of ingredients off Steve as she took in the sight of Natashaās dinner of a peanut butter sandwich which rest on top of the table.
āYou know, Iād offer to cook you dinner, but you seem miserable enough.ā Steve opened, looking down at her with a smile.
āSo Iām gonna do it instead.ā Katie smiled, holding up the bag sheād brought, dropping it onto the table. āChicken stew, dumplings and chocolate cake for after.ā
Natasha looked at them, a smile playing on her face as Katie sat down across from her. āYou guys here just to feed me?ā
āAnd to see a friend.ā Steve shot back.
Natasha leaned back into her chair, Jamie still on her lap. āClearly, your friend is fine.ā
āBull.ā Katie mimicked her stance, eyeing her. Natasha avoided her gaze and the room fell silent.
āYou know we saw a pod of whales as we were coming over the bridge.ā Steve broke the silence, changing the subject.
āIn the Hudson?ā Natasha raised her head slightly, sounding impressed.
āThere was a Jamie whale and a daddy whale and a momma whale and an Emmy one!ā Jamie gushed and Nat smiled.
āI havenāt seen whales in the Hudson ever, even before.ā
"Well, thereās fewer ships, cleaner water.ā Steve shrugged
Natasha sighed looking up at the ceiling. āYou know, if youāre about to tell me to look on the bright side, umm, Iām about to hit you in the head with a peanut butter sandwich.ā
āSammich?ā Jamie looked up hopefully and Natasha tore off half of one side before passing it to him.
āSorry.ā Steve sighed pushing himself off from the bookshelf, his jacket slung over his arm. āForce of habit.ā
He tossed his keys onto the table, dropping his jacket over the back of a chair before sitting down next to his wife, glancing at Jamie who was now eating a small piece of the sandwich, then at Natasha. The woman looked tired, pale and such a far cry from the stoic, well-groomed Natasha Romanoff he had first known. But then again, they were all a far cry from the people they had once been.
āYou know, I keep telling everybody they should move on, and forget what happened.ā Steve crossed his arms as he leaned back in his chair. āAnd some do. But not us.ā
āIf I move on, who does this?ā Natasha asked simply with a shrug.
Katie sighed. āMaybe it doesnāt need to be done.ā
āYou know, I used to have nothing. And then I got this- this job, this family.ā Nat smiled sadly and looked down at Jamie before she looked back up, the tears evident in her eyes. āAnd I was better because of it. And even though theyāre gone, Iām still trying to be better.ā
There was a pause as Katie wiped her eyes, a tear having escaped down her cheek and Steve gently placed his hand between her shoulder blades, rubbing softly.
"I think we all need to get a life,ā he joked, breaking the sad silence, and Natasha forced a smile nodding to him.
āYou did.ā At her words, Steve gave a smile. She was right, he had. Whilst he and Katie had been extremely lucky over the last five years, that didnāt stop them thinking about the people that hadnāt, and the friends they had lost.
Katie reached for the bag she had placed on the table. āIāll go start dinner.ā She was mid-way through standing when a small, holographic screen popped up in front of Natasha indicating she had a notification of sorts. She flicked it to the side, bringing the video feed to life behind Steve, who looked over his shoulder as the video began playing.
āOh, hi, hi! Is anyone home? This is, uh, Scott Lang. We met a few years ago, at the airport, in Germany. I was small, then I got real big.ā

Katie left the bag where it was and whipped round, to see Scott on the screen, stood in front of his van. Besides her Steve stood from his seat, unable to believe what he was seeing.
āThisā¦this is impossible.ā Katie breathed, shaking her head. āHe wasā¦ā
āIs this an old message?ā Steve asked, his voice quiet, not taking his eyes off the footage.
āAnt-Man! I know you remember Ant-Man.ā
Natashaās reaction was much the same as theirs, confused awe as she sat up, breathing deeply. āItās the front gate.ā
āI really need to talk to you guys!ā Scott continued to yell his voice becoming desperate.
The three of them remained frozen for a moment, absolutely lost for words, before Jamie broke the silence.
āWhoās that?ā He asked, jumping down from Natās lap. āAn old friend.ā Steve swallowed, turning to Natasha who was fishing in a drawer for the key to the main gate which had been padlocked shut for years as no one used it anymore. She found it, tossed it to Steve and he caught it expertly before heading off to go meet Scott.

So... I watched Pocahontas II for the first time in ages... There's two things I noticed that I didn't as a child:
1. The starkly different ways John Smith and John Rolfe act towards Pocahontas
John Smith, after being open to her ways in the last movie, in this one acts as if no time has passed since he last saw Pocahontas, as if they could pick up right where they left off. And when the Armada is stopped and he is rewarded with a ship, he expects her to conform to his plans and dreams.
He does let her go when he realises she doesn't share those dreams and that he no longer has her heart. He's not a bad person, just one who wants something very different from life. As Pocahontas said, they walked the same path for a time but now their paths have diverged.
John Rolfe starts the story with very clear ideas of how the world is supposed to work. He expects people to act with honour, he expects leadership to be exclusive to men, he expects everyone to conform to British societal norms, which he perceives as the height of civilization. But over the course of the movie, Pocahontas challenges his views again and again. This leads to the scene in the garden after the ball, where he is struggling with what to do. Does he follow the King's orders as he has so far or does he free the innocent Pocahontas, do what's lawful or what's honourable? This, I think is the turning point of his character arc. He has seen men he thought had to be honourable act in dishonour, he has seen a woman stand up for something, he has had the veil stripped from the vain cruelty and barbarism of his so esteem British society. And now he understands Pocahontas better. He no longer thinks she should conform to his societal standards. He no longer questions her ability or right to lead, to take actions independently. And when the Armada is stopped and he has become chief advisor he decides, independently of her, that that is no longer what he desires and instead goes with Pocahontas back to America instead.
His path and hers finally run together after approaching each other all movie.
Basically, Smith goes from acceptance of her ways to expecting her to conform to his standards while Rolfe goes from expecting her to conform to his standards to accepting (his last line might even imply embracing) her ways.
Which also shows clearly what child-me didn't understand: why did she pick the new guy? Because they fit together in ways Smith and her don't anymore.
2. Disney couldn't be bothered to so much as check a picture for visual referances on Stuart England, apparently... Or more accurately, didn't give a damn about being visually consistent. Queen Annevs hair and dress is reasonably accurate (on a casual glance) which makes Pocahontas' outfit look even more unfitting in comparison.
Pocahontas' dress and underthings are Victorian, her hair looks more Georgian than Stuart era to me and okay, I think the jewelry might be Stuart, I don't know enough about jewelry to say that definitely... And that's not talking about the rest of the people (I saw one Elizabethan looking skirt in the London song scene... As well as a dress that's an obvious bustle cage caricature and otherwise pretty generic "princess" dresses - that is to say, what is sold as children's costumes and not necessarily Disney branded...)
Also, they turned James I (who was at the very least moderately competent) into a complete caricature of a monarch. But that's neither here nor there and opinions on James I differ...

Except, the next morning was when everyone had entered the courtroom together and they'd gotten WAY too dramatic over whether to lie to them about a text they'd made likeā¦ two days ago and that Thomas had only seen after combing through a barrage of memes and that Joan probably wouldn't remember, come to think about it. But that was hindsight and after the utter nightmare that was a whole day (A whole day!!) with Aunt Patty the day before, Virgil and Patton were absolutely freaking out, probably giving Deceit (Who, in hindsight, Thomas knows as Janus) a little extra leeway into the conversation that day.
Either way, Joan had stayed the night in order to recover from the utter sleep-deprivation that they'd been going through, and Thomas had forgotten about the fact that Joan was even there for most of the morning, only seeing them after the entire courtroom spectacle (and a suspiciously dire warning from Virgil) at breakfast, and them leaving to see Talyn a little after (with plenty of hugs involved, duh).
Then Thomas told Joan the truth over the call, and Joan had said The Line (as Roman, Virgil and Janus call it with an oddly cryptid-like voice) and Thomas felt himself go frigid.
Since when did Joan know that Thomas talked to his sides?! Had they learned their names? Figured out that Thomas might just have a few extra screws loose than they might have initially thought?
"Maybe they even hate us now because we got so crazed over one little text and--ā
āVirgil. Not helping!ā Thomas yelps, and Virgil catches himself in his spiel of worst case scenarios, looking a bit sheepish. Patton and Thomas smile at him reassuringly (he hopes) and Logan clears his throat, causing everyone to turn to him.
āWell, Joan seems to be aware enough of the fact that you speak to us, but mostly considers it as you, as they had said, ātalking to yourselfā, and besides, you didnāt name-drop us too many times, anyways. And while itās not really...ideal, that Joan thinks you talk to yourself for this long-ā
āYou can say that again, Stephen Hawk-Nerdā, murmured Roman. Logan winces, and Thomas kind of wants to hug him, so he does.
āYes, Roman, and as bad as that nickname is, note that this is not, in fact a worst-case scenario. This can be put down to the fact that Thomas has some strange personality quirks-ā
āDid you just do some wordplay there, kiddo?ā Patton beams at the implication, while Logan, currently being shared by Thomas and Virgil, just groans and descends further into the contact.
āNo, I did not, Patton, but what I am saying, is that this is not too bad. We can talk about it as a general personality quirk. This is fine.ā Logan finishes, and becomes a heap in the total hug-pile of Thomas and Virgil, flopping over. Huh, he (as usual) has a point. Maybe this can work.
The second time was a pretty near miss, but once again, it was unexpected! He and the sides were just watching Mulan together as usual! They were piled up together, blankets in hand, and yeah, it might look weird to anyone who canāt see the sides, he guesses, with the blankets stretched out in places that have nothing to stretch onto, but once again, he wasn't expecting someone to come over! But anyways- whatever happens, happens. He's trying to be better about it.
It really doesn't stop Janus from pulling out all the stops (teaming up with Virgil, even!) when it comes to having to come up with an alibi to Terrence over why the blankets are arranged so strangely, even though there is literally nothing keeping it afloat. In the end, it's not the most believable lie, but Terrence is busy with Valerie just after, so he probably doesn't really think about it too hard. Besides, Thomas has always been a pretty quirky guy! ("Which could be an insul--" "Jack and Sullen, we love you very very much, but please, for the love of all things Disney, please breathe and take out your fidget cube..") So hey, what was a new quirk when added to everything else?
Meanwhile, Terrence is trying to figure out what the fuck he just saw, because he's pretty sure that there were more than one Thomas there, and Thomas only has two other brothers. Also none of them dress like twenties mobsters or are semi-transparent.
Nico was having a good day. In fact, he still is!
He and his (amazing) boyfriend were sitting on the couch- though more draped on top of each other than anything while binge watching ELITE and Tiny Pretty Things, while also being pleasantly high (as opposed to stoned).
Things only entered strange territory when during one of the flashback murder-y scenes in Tiny pretty Things, a strange man who looked like an even more chaotic Thomas with some grey hair on him entered the room from seemingly nowhere, and proceeded to occupy the sparse space on Thomasās lap with his head, essntially just napping on his boyfriendās lap while also being kind of see-through (???!!!???AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH). Thomas noticed, waved a small wave and started playing with this weird guyās hair.
Nico is now a little high from the bong that he and Thomas had shared, but not enough to hallucinate, especially since, when the high was pretty much gone, the guy was STILL THERE. MIERDA. At this point, heās just going to call it ghosts. Thomas doesnāt seem to mind too much anyways, so they must not be harmful. Nico decides to table this for another day and go back to binge watching crazy maniacs with his very soft and warm boyfriend, and let the remainder of the high coast along.
"We have to talk about the Thomas thing." Is the first thing Joan says without any bullshit, as soon as everyone except Thomas himself, Gavin (because it's two AM) and Quil are packed together in Thomas's living room, where he just binged Parks and Rec with everyone. They've all finally managed to shove Thomas and Quil back to their respective areas of sleep after 42 hours without said sleep, and nobody was allowed to talk loud enough for them to wake up.
"Theā¦ Thomas thing?" Asks Valerie. Oh that sweet summer child. Joan once again quietly calls everyone's attention by asking Talyn to shake their hair around like a neon-coloured alarm bell. This was especially effective in the otherwise dark kitchen where they were trying out glow in the dark hair dye.
"Well, as of lately, we've been seeing a lot, and I mean a lot of really weird shit coming from Thomas. Everyone, recount your experiences." Joan says in the most serious voice they've got. "I'll go first."
They wave their hands like Matt Mercer, as if they were setting up a dope DND campaign. Quietly, of course.
"Well, about a month ago now, I was cleaning here, at Thomas's, because I was sleep-deprived and would have crashed and died if I'd tried to go back to mine and Talyn's. So most of the night goes normally, as one would expect, but when I wake up in the morningā¦" Joan readjusts their beanie. "I hear Thomas in the living room, talking to people called Logan, Roman, someone called Pat, Virgil and 'deceit'. And this debate becomes an ordeal, alright? He re-enacts a whole entire ace-attorney style courtroom scene with these imaginary people? I called him out on it over the phone when he apologized for some random thing- I don't remember, and he kind of justā¦ admitted that he talks to himself? And moved on.
Everyone absorbs this new information. Camden keeps braiding Talyn's hair.
"But that's not too big of a deal, right Joan?" Whispers Camden, tying up the elaborate mini fishtail plait in Talyn's hair. "I mean, thanks Thomas we're talking about. He could have been rehearsing or something- isn't he JD in the next production of Heathers?"
Terrence speaks up next. "Yes, this would have been all well and good, had the Blanket Incident ā¢ not occured."
Valerie shakes her head. Why are her friends like this? Oh wait. Theyāre all theatre nerds, queer and D&D players.
"In the blanket incident ā¢, I was walking past Thomas's room, as one does. HOWEVER, while he was watching Mulan, I noticed something wrong with his blanket pile!"
"What, that they don't have any Vetal Miking references on them? Because that's the true tragedy here."
"Nope, sorry Tal, the weirdness here was not about Vetal Miking references, but the fact that parts of the blanket were freaking floating, in thin air! I have discreet pictures!"
"What the fuck, Terrence." whispered everyone in a strange, haunting unison that could only be possible at two AM as they saw the very strange pictures.
"And that's not it!" Pipes up Talyn, who is now realising that they are very close to becoming too loud for 2 AM kitchen chats, and makes an effort to quiet down.
"At breakfast today, Thomas's waffles were making themselves- Thomas can't cook, y'all. And he can't even use is fucking waffle iron. And he was on the other side of the room! Talking to Quil!" After Quil left, he told the waffle creator to chill out because the stack was getting too tall!"
"Is this about Thomas's ghosts, guys?" Asks Nico, the new cute boyfriend and new theatre company writer as he plops down in Quil's usual spot. Nico's nice- everyone likes Nico except maybe Nico, to which, well, mood. ALSO- ghosts?!!
"Nico what the fuck do you mean by ghosts, you serial killer in training?"
"One, just because I have to write a serial killer in this new script and I'm enjoying it, it doesn't mean I'm gonna be a serial killer, you tonte. Two: yeah, the ghosts that follow him around and look just like him? They seem nice enough." At everyone's super unspoken request to elaborate, for fuck's sake, he takes the hint and does.
āOh! So the first time I saw them, I was at the mall. You know, where Thomas and I met?ā everyone nods, and Talyn readjusts their braces.
āSo there was this guy in a hoodie- Virgil, as you said, and the Disney prince. Roman, I think. And they were just kind ofā¦ there? Roman was holding Virgilās shoulder affectionately, and thatās about it. They were only really visible after about three or four hours of us talking, though.ā Some of the people hum.
āThen, we were watching a movie and these two guys who also look a lot like Thomas just kind of lounged? On the couch? They were pretty faint, like if their brightness was decreased to about thirty percent in Photoshop.ā
āHey, same!ā says Terrence.
āYeah, so those guys- the one in the green t-shirt that has the legs on the bus meme- so weird- kind of just stretches onto Thomasās lap and stays there, while the twenties mobster justā¦ curls up to his side? And thomas is probably like, used to this because he kind of just lets it be and curls the meme shirt-ā
āI think itās Remus.ā
ā-Remusās hair absentmindedly and moves on.ā
āFuck.ā Whispered Joan very softly, but with great feeling.
āSo what do we do about it?ā asks Camden. There, finally, someone asks the real questions.
āWell,ā puts forward Talyn. āTheyāre not harming him, right? And heās had them around for a long enough time, right? So whatās the harm? Thomas is just haunted and will probably be on Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural at some point when he dies but hey, if heās cool with it, we are too.ā
Everyone seems to agree with that, and theyāre in comfortable silence, until Valerie asks everyone to go the fuck to sleep, weāre still doing the Heatherās costume rehersals and Death Week starts in two days. With groans and cracked joints from Talyn, everyone hobbles off to their respective rooms in the duplex.
Meanwhile, a certain white-streaked side and his hoodied companion are listening through the wall, far away from what anyone can see, and they both visibly sigh in relief. That didnāt go too badly. The question remains: what do we do now?
āThey KNOW????ā exclaims Thomas, the next day in the (thankfully empty) breakroom, in between rehearsals- Candy Store is being run through and that means that everyone else is outside.
āYes, Thomas, they know. Or they somewhat know, I suppose.ā
āYeah, because they think weāre-Thomas is being HAUNTED!!ā
āAre you not haunted, then?ā comes a voice, and Thomas turns around, forgetting to let the sides dissipate in his surprise. Itās Nico, with Talyn and Valerie close behind, who are clearly taking in the six other guys in the breakroom. Well, fuck. The catās out of the bag for good, he guesses.
āCould you get everyone else during lunch break? Iāll explain then.ā Talyn nods and leaves with a smile, telling him that theyāre not mad at him, while Nico asks, voice farther away āSo are you haunted or not?ā.
āSo theyāreā¦ aspects of your personality that youāve been able to manifest since you were a kid?ā Camden asks, a bit disbelieving, even as Logan, Roman, Patton and Janus drape themselves over Thomas on one of the beanbags in the breakroom, filled with other nerdy gay young adults. Logan pushes up his glasses, ready to go on another tangent. Go wild, you funky little dude.
āWell yes, thatās exactly what we're saying. I myself am the embodiment of Logic- every fact that Thomas has ever learned, and his, and these are his words, not mine, āthe only braincellā. He makes the air quotes to go with the expression, but is also smiling fondly.
āClassic Thomas.ā
āYes, Valerie, I am inclined to agree. However, this is not specific to Thomas. Other people can, in fact, do what Thomas is. Lilly Singh is one of them- the reason that she and Thomas are even friends is because in high school Thomas caught her talking to one of her sides in the art room.ā
āSo wait-- we can summon sides too?!ā asks Nico, and he and Camden look genuinely excited, but Thomas knows the answer to that question.
āUnfortunately no, not really. You have to have an extremely active imagination, and also be āinnocentā, as society would put it. Iād say nƤive.ā
āFor example, I couldnāt make any more sides after i was fourteen, because I watched the news by then.ā pipes in Thomas. Joan seems to process this first, nodding and grinning sardonically. āAh yes, the news. Wrecking childhoods since forever.ā everyone nods in gay syncing, because gay minds think at the same time.
Valerie suddenly speaks up; āSo how many sides do you have, Thomas?ā
Thomas perks up, because his sides are possibly his favourite metaphysical beings (as narcissistic as that might sound) āI have six! My logic, morality, both creativities- Kids and Family and PG13-and-up, anxiety and deceit! I have two creativities because of catholic guilt and my mindās inherent need to cause chaos, I guess.ā
āValidā replied Valerie.
The rest of break passed by pretty smoothly, with questions being passed back-and-forth about what the sides truly were, considering they clearly were not just Thomas, and Virgil even felt okay enough to come in later! So that was good. Though he kind of wishes Remus had made fewer Heathers jokes- Camden was starting to look squeamish, even as Nico frantically took notes of gorey facts to use in his script.
Honestly, Thomas thought to himself. What was I scared of?
Irrational things. And rejection, replies Virgil in his head. He laughs and pulls him in for a hug, and tries as he might to deny it, Virgil is looking pretty chuffed.

Halloween
Summary: you and the avengers spend Halloween together.

Halloween was a week away.Ā Tony being Tony, already paid for the decorations for the tower, so basically all of the floors look like a haunted house.Ā Rolls of toilet paper stretched across arches in the hallways, tiny spiders were all over furniture, bones and eyes and zombies and witches and everything in between that you could possibly think of was in the tower.Ā The tower looked like a zombie on steroids; creepy yet entertaining at the same time.Ā Ā
Everyone was fine with the decorations, but the costumes were a big issue.Ā Steve and Tony kept arguing over the ideas, both of them wanting to do group costumes.Ā Everyone else had their ideas too, but Tony and Steve were at each other's throats for the past couple weeks, since like August.Ā Your room in the tower was right by the meeting office, so hearing the two of them screaming at each other for the most stupid shit was driving you insane.Ā Once it got to the point where you had to yell at them to shut up.Ā Ā
This morning, a week before Halloween, while everyone was there, you cleared your throat while you heard Steve and Tony bickering.
āGuys this is getting to be too much.Ā We need to have a meeting to discuss these fucken costumes.ā you said.
āYeah this is getting out of control,ā Nat agreed.
āGuys, cmon, you have to agree with me.Ā All of us having Iron Man suits would be awesome.Ā We could fly around the city all night and have so much fun!ā Tony said.
āTony, stop.Ā All of us being soldiers is better.āĀ Steve countered.
āSTOP!ā Clint groaned.Ā āYou guys are insane.Ā We need to discuss this as a group.ā
Tony and Steve sat across from each other, glaring at each other.Ā Death was looming between them.Ā Ā
āFine,ā Tony sighed.Ā āWhen and where?ā
āThe office, 2pm,ā Nat said.Ā āAnd everyone has to show up, that means you too Bucky.ā
Bucky groaned from the other side of the room.Ā He hated group discussions, he liked working alone better.Ā Said that it was faster to be alone and you didnāt have to worry as much.

2pm finally rolled by.Ā Everyone has showed up in the big office, one that seemed a little too big.Ā Everyone was tired of the bickering and had showed up, thankfully.Ā Ā
Tony, Steve, Natasha, Clint, Thor, Bucky, Sam, Peter P, Shuri, Wanda, Vision, Loki and you were crowded around the table.Ā Tony was standing at the end with a whiteboard, prepared to write down ideas.
āSo guys, what do you want to do?ā Tony said.
āWhat about we dress up as famous Star Wars characters?ā Sam suggested.
āNah, Steve isnāt going to know who Yoda is.Ā Thatās a must if we do Star Wars.ā Tony said.
āDevils and Angels?ā Wanda said.
āNot original,ā Steve said.
āWhat about we just wear each otherās costumes?ā Thor suggested.
āYou really think you are gonna wear my wings?ā Sam said, a hint of annoyance in his voice that made you and Bucky snicker.
āI donāt think any of you guys want to wear a leather catsuit,ā Nat said.
āWe could dress up as famous vines,ā Shuri offered, smirking at you and Peter.Ā Ā
The three of you quoted vines daily and the rest of the team never knew what you guys meant, which made it even more fun.Ā Eventually, Sam, Bucky and Clint started learning vines with you because they kept saying things which you guys followed up with vine references.Ā The frustration got to the three men and they started to learn with you, but they werenāt nearly as attentive as you, Shuri and Peter.
āWhatās a vine?ā Steve asked.
āVine was a website created in 2012, officially released in 2013.Ā It was ultimately shut down in 2016.Ā Vine was a website where users would create short videos an-ā Vision said.
āVis, I donāt think they want a whole essay,ā Wanda said, seeing the reactions of the other Avengers.Ā Sam had started to fake snore, Loki was muttering something to Peter about knifes, and Shuri was about to watch vines, from what you could tell.Ā Ā
āItās this app filled with people saying and doing stupid things for attention,ā Nat sighed.
āIT IS NOT STUPID!Ā VINE WAS LEGENDARY!!āĀ Shuri shouted.
āYOU WOULD DO THINGS FOR THE VINE, YOU UNCULTURED SWINE!!ā you shrieked.
āEDUCATE YO SELF!ā Clint shouted, right in Natashaās ear.Ā Doing that earned him a hard punch in the back of the head.
āWell I donāt have all day so we need something,ā Tony groaned, hitting his expo marker against the whiteboard.
You and everyone else was trying to come up with ideas when all the sudden, quiet Peter Parker, who was pretty much the baby of the tower, spoke up.
āMr. Frost Giant, God sir?ā Peter asked.
āLoki,ā Loki sighed, pleasantly shocked.
āSo, you have ice powers right?ā Peter continued.
āYes, I am an ice giant,ā Loki said.
āYou should be Elsa for Halloween,ā Peter gasped.
Then, out of nowhere, Clint jumped up, looking like he had 5 monster energy drinks and 10 packs of warheads.
āIāLL BE MERIDA!!!ā he screamed.
āI must assume that I am going to portray Elsa then,ā Thor said, with a smile on his face.
āSo...we are doing Disney princesses?ā Tony asked, slightly confused.
āLooks like it,ā Bucky said.
āWho the fuck am I gonna be?ā Shuri asked.
āLanguage.ā Steve said.
You and Shuri looked at each other for a moment and with a slight nod of your head, you were both in a song.
āFUCK SHIT PUSSY ASS!!!ā you and Shuri sang.
āMOTHERFUC-ā Peter started to continue, but Tony just slapped his hand over Peterās mouth.Ā Tony swore that Peter wasnāt like a son to him, but this didnāt help his situation.
Steve was turning ad red as a tomato in his seat, not being able to process all the dirty words that escaped yours and Shuriās mouths.
āOk, who are all the Disney Princesses?ā Tony asked, frustration in his voice as he looked down at Peter.Ā Tony gave him a look, one that said āStop this shit or you get your suit taken away for two weeksā and once Peter nodded his head slightly, Tony removed his hand.
Vision started to list a bunch of them off, even some of the ones that arenāt considered princesses, like Megara, Alice and Jane.Ā Once Tony had a list of all the princesses, he started to write of all the avengers, making lines to match them up with their character.Ā Ā
āOk, who wants to find their Disney princess counterpart first?ā Tony asked.
āMe, I already asked before,ā Shuri said rolling her eyes.
āWell I mean you already are a princess.ā you said.
āOh,ā Shuri said. āI donāt have to dress up then.Ā Haha.Ā You can cross my name off, Tony.ā
Tony sighed and rolled his eyes, while taking her name off.
āNext?ā he sighed.
āWhat about me?ā Steve asked.
āOh this is gonna be interesting.ā Sam grinned.
āSnow White.ā Bucky said, without even hesitating.
āWait why?ā you asked.
āOhhhhh, I think I see why,ā Wanda smirked.
āContinue Barnes,ā Natasha said.
āFirst of all, Snow White was the very first princess to come out.Ā She came out in the thirties or forties.Ā Sheās the oldest.Ā Steve was the first avenger and he is the oldest.āĀ Bucky said.
āBucky, you are a couple months older than me.ā Steve countered.
āSecond,ā Bucky continued, ignoring his friend completely.Ā āShe is like the most gullible and is surrounded by followers.Ā Snow White was like living with seven dwarfs.Ā And she was underage and just lived with them. Steve here, was the leader of the Howling Commandos.Ā And I was in that group, so I had to endure him and his stupid ass decisions, but I couldnāt elect to ignore it.ā
āThatās offensive,ā Steve said.
āThat's the point,ā Bucky said.Ā Ā
āOk so Steve is Snow White.āĀ Tony declared, making a line between Snow White and Steve on the whiteboard.Ā āNEXTT!ā
āMe,ā said the super secret Russian spy.
āHmm..ā you thought.
āMegara,ā said Clint.
āOh that's a good one,ā Sam agreed.
āWho is Megara?ā Steve asked.
āShe is an attractive Greek lady that Hercules, the son of Zeus, who is the King of the Greek Gods, falls in love with.ā Thor explained.
āThor, how do you of all people know that?ā Shuri asked.Ā Ā āShouldnāt Vision know all of these things?ā
āMālady, I am formally educated in Disney movies by the request of Peter Parker, also known as āThe One and Only Friendly Neighborhood Spidermanā.ā Thor explained.
āKid, you make Thor, the God of Thunder, sit through Sleeping Beauty?ā Tony asked, shocked.
āMy dear man of Iron, Sleeping beauty was quite relaxing.Ā That Prince Philip, that amazing man, demonstrated quite intellectually advanced ways to use a sword.Ā Ways that I can use Storm-breaker effectively in battle.ā Thor smiled.
Tony and Sam shared a look of disgust with a combination of interest and concern.
āThor, I donāt think you can learn fighting tactics from a cart-ā Vision started.
āI need to watch the movies again,ā Clint and Bucky muttered under their breaths.
āNo she should be Mulan,ā Wanda said.Ā āMulan is determined and strong.Ā Megara just messed with the God of Death.ā
āI mess with death all the time,ā Natasha countered.
āI should be Megara.ā Bucky stated.
āBecause you almost died?ā Steve asked.
āBecause your soul is dark and empty?ā Sam asked.
āYes and no.Ā My hair is long, not as long as herās but I can make it work.Ā Hair extensions.Ā She plays with Herculesā emotions.Ā She is also strong and independent.Ā Like me.ā Bucky explained.
āThat settles it.Ā Bucky is Megara and Natasha is Mulan.āĀ Tony said, making lines between the two avengers and their princesses.Ā Ā
ānEXXttT!ā Tony shouted.
āMe me me!ā Wanda said happily.
āYes Mr. Stark I would like to go as well.ā Vision added.
āWanda would make the perfect Moana.ā Thor said.Ā āMoana and Wanda both demonstrate very strong emotions, which affect their abilities regarding their powers and limits and they care deeply about the people that mean the most to them.ā
He nudged Loki in the shoulder to try to get him more involved in the meeting.Ā Loki was just throwing his knives up in the air, and Peter was getting very interested, and getting dangerously close to the God of Mischief.Ā Tony was eyeing the two of them very, very carefully.
āYeah, yeah sure,ā Loki sighed, just going along with Thor or the sake of it.
āWho would Vision be then?ā Sam asked.
āHe could be the dead grandma,ā Clint suggested.
āYeah, that one that turned into the manta ray.ā Nat agreed.
āItās settled.Ā Moana and Dead Grandma Ray.ā Tony said, making the lines once again.Ā He had to add ādead grandmaā to the board for Visionās sake.
āNeXXXXXtttT!!ā he shrieked.
āTony, you should be Belle,ā Natasha said.

āPeter, you just had to say that and I would have been on board.Ā Now I had to listen to Steve and Natasha for a minute.ā Tony groaned as he drew a line between his name and Belleās.
āThanks Tony,ā Steve said sarcastically.
āYour welcome, Capsicle.ā Tony gleamed back.
āSam should be Cinderella.ā Bucky said.
āOMG that works!!ā Shuri exclaimed.
āYeah..ā Sam realized.Ā āIām Cinderella ācause she broke, homie.ā
āYeah,ā Steve said, smiling from ear to ear, looking back at Sam.
āShe represent me, yooo,ā Sam said.Ā Then he looked over at Steve and said, āLemme borrow twenty dollas.ā
By this point, Steve couldnāt hold in the laughter and almost fell out of his chair.Ā And Sam, being as he called it āSteveās best friend, better than Bucky,ā saved Steve from collapsing on to the floor.
āSteve is the cinder princess.Ā Deal with it.ā Tony declared, adding another line.
āNeeXXttTTT!ā Tony screamed.
āNow, all thatās left is Peter and Y/N,ā Wanda said, eyeing you two.
āPeter should be Rapunzel.Ā Before they face the real world, they are both innocent, but then when they see what the world is really like, it changes them.ā Thor said, analyzing the similarities between the princess and the superhero.
āJesus Christ, why is Point break actually really on point?ā Tony asked.
āMy dear Stalk of corn, I am educated like I told you earlier.Ā Insect man has really helped me tap into my inner child and all of the pain my demon brother made me endure.ā Thor said.
āSpiderman,ā Peter mumbled.
āI take that as a complement.ā Loki stated, out of the blue.
āRapunzel is Parker.ā Tony declared.
āLast but not least, Y/N.ā Steve said.
Now, it took everyone a while to come up with a princess for you.Ā You didnāt fit the exact mold or looks of a certain princess, so it was definitely harder.
āWhat about Alice?ā Sam said/
āWhy the fuck would she be Alice?ā Bucky asked.
āBecause Alice in Wonderland is supposed to portray the effects of drugs.ā Sam explained.
āSo your saying that I act like a drug addict?ā you asked.
āNO!ā Sam shouted.
āSam, drop it before you dig your own grave.ā Steve said.
āWhat about Jasmine?ā offered Wanda.Ā āYou have a very free spirit like her, and sheās your favorite princess.ā
āYeah sure, that sounds fine.ā you agreed.
āY/N is Jasmine!Ā dOOONNEe!ā Tony shouted with relief.
āWAIT I CHANGED MY MIND!ā Shuri shrieked.Ā āI WANNA BE A PRINCESS.Ā I WANNA BE TIANA SHE IS AN ABSOLUTE BADASS!ā
āFINE!ā Tony shouted back.Ā āNOW WE ARE DONE.Ā EVERYONE HAPPY?ā
Everyone in the room, not wanting to disagree with a hot-headed Tony, looked around at each other and slowly nodded their heads.
āGreat!ā Tony smiled, a complete change in moods.Ā āTomorrow we are going to Party City to get our costumes.Ā Everyone in this room has to come so we can get the wigs and dresses and makeup.Ā No skipping out.Ā That includes you Clint, Bucky and Loki.ā
The three men who were called out rolled their heads and sighed.Ā But they agreed to go.Ā To Tonyās happiness.
āGreat.Ā Meeting finished.Ā Pepper wants me for something.Ā Probably for the party.Ā Nobody try to call me or you will be met with an ear rape of AC/DC.ā Tony said, putting on his glasses and promptly leaving the room in Stark fashion.Ā Everyone eventually left the room, you being lost in your thoughts.Ā Ā
āYou coming, doll?ā Bucky asked, seeing you were still sitting in the room.
āYa, Iāll be out in a second.ā you said.Ā Ā
āAlright, you, me and Clint are doing a Disney marathon for fighting tactics.Ā Donāt be late or you because we are gonna eat all the food.Ā I donāt wanna hear you complain.ā Bucky said, walking out the door with a lazy drag of his legs.
Now, relief filled your body.Ā Now you wouldnāt have to hear arguing about costumes!Ā And they actually agreed to costumes, shockingly.Ā Now you just couldnāt wait to go to Party City and endure all the chaos.Ā And then, you left the room to watch Disney movies again, for fighting tactics.Ā Ā

Paris Haute Couture Week S/S 2020 Plus a Little Jacquemus: Okay, Dior DID Suck (Part 2/2)
Hi to anyone reading,
First of all, thank you! I have never had a post do as well as the part 1 of my haute couture week review did and I am so overwhelmed with the positive feedback. This is probably funny to read for those of you getting thousands of reblogs on your posts, me acting like I won an academy award because I got a couple of hundred, but honestly I donāt expect any traction when I write on here (itās basically just me word vomiting everything Iām thinking as if people want to hear it aka. mouthing off into what I thought was the void) so if you did read it, thank you! I do spend a long-ass time on these so it means a lot:-)
Iāll leave the self-indulgent ramble there though as itās probably not what you came for and jump straight into part 2 of my thoughts, starting with Jacquemus. Yeah, I knew what I was doing when I tagged that in my last post. Simon Porte Jacquemus is the man of the *fashion* people right now; Iāve even found myself coming round to the Le Chiquito bag despite my original thought beingĀ āwell, thatās fucking uselessā.Ā I know, I know, technically itās not haute couture; it was part of Menās Fashion Week, but it happened around the same time and everyone was talking about it on Twitter, so I feel like I have to include it.

In a way, it kind of reminds me of Bottega Venetaās last RTW show, in that, especially with the womenās outfits, we seem to be sticking with simple, fitted garments and chunky, more statement jewellery. Iāve got to say I like the styling here a lot more though, and in general Iām a fan of this collection. The collared tops with cut outs underneath blazers are cool and I canāt wait until it gets warm enough for me to not feel dumb wearing my headscarfs like this; thereās a LOT of summer outfit inspiration. Itās not a mind-blowing collection or anything but it is effortlessly sexy and thatās something I wish I could say about myself. Most of us can only hope to look half as good as these models do whilst making the effort but at least Jacquemus is aspirational, lol.Ā
I also fucking adore this colour palette. Iām sick of neutrals literally just meaning brown and white;Ā the navy, sand and muted khaki is a fresh edition to what is usually interpreted as the colours youād seen worn by Disneyās Riverboat Cruise staff and only Disneyās Riverboat Cruise staff. And I mean, come on-what is more neutral than typical English school carpet blue.

In the best way possible, itās a lot. I donāt even really know where to start, except to say that I guess this is a fitting last show; a celebration of everything campy, messy, weird, performative, and punk is the perfect send off for a brand whose best known perfume of the last few years is called Scandal. More than anything, the final show represented the range of characters and cultures that have influenced JPG throughout his half-a-decade-long career, the lines that supposedly separate what isĀ āmasculineā andĀ āfeminineā,Ā āoldā andĀ āyoungā and ultimately art and fashion blurred in the most exaggerated way possible. Sure, there are some looks which are individually a bit messy here but the way they were grouped into almost chapter-like segments meant that when you see them all together, they work.Ā Nods to the patterns and structures that recurred from season to season were sprinkled throughout, from sailor stripes to corsets to the expected whirlwinds of colour. Iāll even allow the wellies in that one outfit; if I can get over bucket hats in Peter fucking Pilottoās last RTW show, I can get over some questionable shoes here. Middle aged fishermen and boys who liked to pose with monster carp in their Tinder pictures as some weird display of masculinity everywhere rejoice.
Now onto a show that I personally found slightly disappointing: Margiela.

I think this one is a bit TOO weird for me. Like if youāre gonna go avant-garde, go all out. Chiffon gimp masks (I donāt know if thatās the intention here but thatās what Iām getting, sorry Maison)Ā are something Iām not particularly fond of and Iāve never been a fan of the Tabi boots in the first place, let alone when theyāve seemingly been blown up to Michelin man style proportions. I didnāt find the show to be a total lost cause-I enjoyed the colour palette and Iāve always liked that contrast stitching detail, plus the bowler hats are interesting-but on the whole considering how much I liked the last RTW show, this is a bit of a let down.Ā
The looks I included are salvageable but (I feel mean saying this) there were genuinely a lot of pieces that did just resemble bits of fabric draped over each over with no discernible rhyme or reason, so much so that they reminded me of some of the monstrosities I saw at a Drag Race pub quiz this one time where we had 5 mins to make some garms out of loo roll and then have a team member model them for points down a makeshift runway.Ā

Ralph and Russo was alright. There were a few pieces that I really liked but again, I canāt help but compare this collection to the last, where it felt like the fussy details of bows and sequins and feathers and the Barbie Dreamhouse palette were utilised with a direction in mind. Here, I donāt get that. As ever, the gowns are gorgeous and Iād pay good money just to try one on for five minutes but as an overall collection Iād say there was a lack of higher vision, which is probably the snobbiest sentence Iāve ever written so forgive me.

As for Ronald Van Der Kemp, I couldāve done without including it to be honest, if it werenāt for the few pieces Iām in love with: the velvet cape, fur trimmed jacket and blue satin dress are probably my favourite pieces here.
So onto a collection I liked a lot more: Schiaparelli.Ā

The influence of nature from flowers in bloom to insects to the organic structure of the human skeleton is as present as ever, though this collection includes a lot more delicate symbolism than usual. Honestly, the details make it for me; the brooches, earrings and facial jewellery are other-worldly touches to outfits that could otherwise be simple fashion magazine editor on-the-go. ThatāsĀ not in itself a bad thing! The suits are gorgeous. I mean, Iām talking fashion editor in New York in a power suit yelling orders down the phone while she rushes along with a coffee. A Miranda Priestley in the making type woman. THATāS aĀ modern take on the divine feminine that Maria Grazia shouldāve been going for; our goddesses arenāt women who sit around looking pretty (though that helps too) and place curses on mere mortals anymore, theyāre women who get shit done.Ā

With regards to Valentino, which was also a delight, let me start by saying this colour palette is EVERYTHING. Itās ugly sisters in Cinderella fantastic, and we know those 2 were the real fashion icons really.Ā Other than that, I adore the Old Hollywood silhouettes from the gloves to the Liz Taylor-in-Cleopatra-level-dramatic earrings. Everything is opulent and expensive-looking and pretty much what weāve all come to expect from Valentino. A strong 8/10.

For me personally, Viktor and Rolf was a standout and one of my favourite collections of haute couture week. Itās not going to be everyoneās cup of tea and I know itās at the complete opposite end of the spectrum to what was probably my other favourite collection, Elie Saab, but this is just my style down to a T, the perfect balance of grungy and cutesy that I want to achieve.Ā
Thereās probably going to be a lot of objections to the temporary face tattoos and I get that, but I think theyāre fucking sick. I obviously wouldnāt get a permanent one lest my mother murder me in cold blood however if I did, you bet I would be pairing them with frilly-ass babydoll dresses that you could pick up in Camden Market like this.Ā

And last but not least (that would be Dior), thereās Zuhair Murad.

IDK, man. Seeing Zuhair Murad dresses on Tumblr and WeHeartIt (remember that site? It still exists!) as a 14 year old was one of the things that got me into fashion, so it sucks that almost every time a new collection comes around, I feel underwhelmed. Disappointingly, the brand hasnāt really progressed all that much since 2013. It goes without saying that the stoning and the embroidery and sequins are stunning and would make anyone feel like a princess but from a critical point of view, Iām just not seeing anything new here. Whereas I feel like Elie Saab, for example, reflected the growing fascination with East Asian fashion and recognition of the supremacy of the regionās street style in his haute couture last collection, Zuhair Murad seems to be stuck designing the same dresses he was 6 years ago.Ā
To pick one example, the rounded stoned necklines are so outdated that theyāve been making their way onto department store prom dresses for years. I get that itās supposed to be a reference to Ancient Egyptian style and I respect that, I was one of those 8 year old that was obsessed with mummies and the āCurse of Tutankhamunā, but couldnāt it be done in a more interesting way? Itās Maria Graziaās spin on Ancient Greece all over again. Now I get how how the I imagine very niche subsection of people who are into fashion and Julius Caesar (okay, so I donāt even know if they still believed in mythology and all that malarky at that point in history but just roll with my comparison here)Ā mightāve felt going through Vogue Runway.Ā Anyway, I hate to end on a critical note and so be clear, these are still absolutely magnificent dresses. If we ignore those ugly round necklines, that is.

Iām literally just about to start trawling through all the A/W 2020 RTW collections though I imagine thatās gonna take me way longer to do than this, so I wouldnāt expect that for a month or two. In the meantime, Iām trying to fit shooting a Euphoria-inspired lookbook into my days off work which is looking atm like itās going to be the end of March, so look out for that, and also a review of the red carpet fashion from this seasonās award shows.Ā

hey i donāt want to make any comments about anything else because i donāt think iām qualified to say anything, but what i do know is that kristen bell is a good person and while the plot of f2 may be flawed, i donāt think it is because of all the selfish reasons you have stated. kb said before that she didnāt want to contribute because she didnāt feel that it was her place, the writers had asked for her opinion.
[contād] and she has stated multiple times in interviews that she loves elsa and she has never shown any signs of wanting to be the more important character. in fact she and idina are always lifting each other up and supporting each other, which is lovely. they donāt have evil intentions at all. and another thing i want to clarify is that kb was NOT a writer on the show. she did not make anna the queen. the only thing she helped to develop was annaās codependency issues. they asked her how she
[contād] felt that anna would struggle with being alone. thatās all the input she provided, nothing about how the plot would end. if you follow kb sheās actually a really good person who has good intentions. her actions may not always be right but sheās always trying to learn and i donāt think itās fair to say sheās full of bullshit at all.

Well, since you forgot to put on āanonā the second part of this ask, I know by your nickname (Iām not gonna share it) that youāre a super fan, and Iām happy for you.
My opinion is different tho.
Sure, she has been asked for her āimputā, but when I read Jennā saying āwe thoughtā talking about herself and Kbell discussing Annaās storyline, I think she did more than āgive a suggestionā.
Itās clear to me that sheās always been jealous of the success Elsa has compared to Anna, in different videos and interviews she said Elsa has more fans, there are many more little girls dressed as Elsa than as Anna, and it really feels like she doesnāt like it. I donāt want to bring here references but @beingpassionateabout made a whole post once collecting all the interviews and quotes.
If she mentioned the word ācodependencyā in relation of Elsa and Anna, that this proves already how little she knows her character, Elsa, and most importantly: the franchising.
Sure, she explained it in a context, she says sometimes she feels like she doesnāt know what to do with herself if her kids arenāt at home, cause sheās devoted to take care of them, and the solution is obviously NOT āstay away from your childrenā.
Curious the end of Elsaās story is different, the solution was to stay away, and Anna got a crown out of it. Mmmmmm.
She wanted to make Anna more āpopularā, she doesnāt know why she is actually popular (Anna is FUNNY and fans wanted her with a SWORD, an action hero), and she went with her own (wrong) vision of the character trying to steal something that made Elsa popular, thinking it was the crown.
Itās not, itās the thing sheāll never get now, her magic.
I am absolutely sure she doesnāt get why Frozen is popular and liked by kids, and she sees it with the lens of adulthood. The line she said to close the Frozen 2 promotion, about how one has to fix the problems with family before devoting herself to a relationship, and it sounded like āok Iām done with the sisters, can we talk about dick now?? You know, my husband has one, and.....ā
The problem with this is:
- Disneyās vision is different, it will always be about the sisters - Saying things like that, proves how far she is from the concept of the franchising. She constantly proves she doesnāt get it. - She asked for a K song when K isnāt popular (it doesnāt sell) and KA tracks even worse, proving once again she does NOT KNOW.
I followed KBell for years before she started getting on my nerves with pushing her own private life in every show/interview she does. I donāt give a damn about her private life.
And with this..........I respect your attempt to defend a person you like, as a fan. Just accept my POV is very different from yours, please. You can believe Iām wrong, if you like, but this is my vision.
Iām not tagging this with KBell so it doesnāt end in your tag, because I realize itās a negative vision and it would be rude. Again, please, respect my pov.

How WandaVisionās Doctor Strange 2 Connection Evolved

WandaVision withdrawal is widespread as we reach the first Friday without a new episode of the acclaimed Disney+ series to ravenously consume and pick apart. True to any broadly celebrated television event, the series complemented an action-packed climax with an array of unanswered questions, especially regarding where it left Elizabeth Olsenās Wanda Maximoffānow uber-powerful and fully-realized as the Scarlet Witchāfor her imminent big screen return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Interestingly, while it did tout teased connections, they came about quite late into the showās production.
The expectation that WandaVision would provide a point of transition for Wandaās return alongside Marvelās Sorcerer Supreme in star Benedict Cumberbatchās upcoming Doctor Strange sequel was prevalent due to reportsālater confirmedāof Olsenās casting for Multiverse of Madness and a subsequent TCA comment from Marvel Studios chief creative officer Kevin Feige stating that the series āgoes into a feature.ā However, the indicatively titled March 5 closer, āThe Series Finale,ā didnāt exactly deliver a direct Doctor Strange sequel teaseālike, say, a cameo by Cumberbatch. While it did provide an intriguing setup for the sequel (more on that later), Olsen and head writer/executive producer Jac Schaeffer reveal in a Variety postmortem interview that the Doctor Strange aspect wasnāt a factor in the showās initial conception.
āTruthfully, the connection between WandaVision and where we leave Wanda and Doctor Strange 2, it was sort of fluid for a time, because we were very much under way before they were entirely underway,ā explains Schaeffer. āSo, it was a conversation. From where Iām sitting, itās been very organic.ā Indeed, the series spawned myriad theories that led many analysts (this writer being no exception,) down a canard cul-de-sac about it being the Marvel Cinematic Universeās gateway to a Strange-pertinent multiverse angle to codify the companyās usage of the returned X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights. This notably centered on the almost-cruel tease of using Fox X-Men movie speedster Pietro Maximoff, Evan Peters, to play an ersatz ārecastā of Wandaās deceased MCU sibling; a character who turned out to be just a bewitched local denizen named Ralph Bohner.

Of course, the non-multiverse plot development, which disappointed segments of the fandom, wasnāt intended as an elaborate prank perpetrated by Schaeffer on the showās eagle-eyed community of Zapruder-film-treating theory-spouters. Rather, it was simply the story she had set out to tell; one that would happen to undergo an evolution due to external factors connected to the studioās plans for Phase Four of the MCU, which WandaVision ended up launching after the pandemic delayed the big screen plans of Black Widow. Moreover, it turns out that Doctor Strange wasnāt even on Olsenās radar during the vast majority of the showās production. āI didnāt know my part in Doctor Strange until right before we got back to filming during the pandemic,ā says the actress. āWe had two months left, and weād filmed the majority of our show already. Really, I knew nothing until that moment when they pitched [Doctor Strange 2] to me verbally.ā
Thusly, by the time Olsen became privy to Wandaās imminent return in Multiverse of Madnessāand likely with a general idea about how that will play outāshe had to exercise discipline in retaining focus on the task at hand. āI tried, as much as I could, almost less so to have [Doctor Strange 2] affect WandaVision as have WandaVision affect it. I think thatās really been where the connection is. Itās almost like weāre trying to make sure that everything is honoring what we did [on the show].ā Having navigated that challenge, the Strange-pertinent additions to WandaVision eventually manifested late into the productionāduring the pandemicāwith Wanda in a post-credits scene from the finale, which added literal and figurative dimensions to her eventual return. The scene in question shows a once-reluctant Wanda dressed casually in sweats, sipping a hot drink while sitting on the front porch of a small, remote, mountain wilderness-set cabin that clearly resembles the cursed cabin from The Evil Dead film series, serving as a meta-minded reference to director Sam Raimi, whoās directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It doesnāt stop there, though.

The scene then delivers a double dose of Strange-evocative sorcery when Wanda walks into the cabinās spartan kitchen to refill her cup, leaving the camera to pan away into a back room, in which we see another Wandaāpresumably the real one, who projected the relaxed doppelgangerāin full Scarlet Witch garb, eerily floating and using her abilities to unlock powerful tome the Darkhold (liberated from the now-neutralized Agatha Harkness), as we hear the voices of her Westview-created twin sons, Billy and Tommy, calling for her help. Thus, we not only see that Wanda has mastered a version of Doctor Strangeās astral projection, but sheās diving deep down the dimensional rabbit hole to somehow materialize her sons; a potentially dangerous endeavor that seems destined to ping the radar of Doctor Strange, not to mention magic-minded villains like Mordo, Dark Dimension overlord Dormammu and, yes, maybe even the clear heavyweight champion of widely-nursed red herring WandaVision theories, classic Marvel devil figure Mephisto.
Regardless, Schaeffer seems satisfied that WandaVision managed to stay true to the substance of her vision (both the concept and the character), and it does seem that the phenomenon of stifling studio meddling was minimal, despite its connection to grandiose franchise designs. āThe acceptance arc [Wandaās coming to terms with grief and latent magical powers] was the point of WandaVision, but the falling action evolved,ā emphasizes Schaeffer. However, she embraces what the show managed to do for Multiverse of Madness, which is currently in production. āItās a lovely way to do a handoff,ā she lauds. āIāve been over here wishing them well in Los Angeles, as theyāre in the U.K.ā

While WandaVision has signed off the proverbial airwaves, the MCU will be back with another highly-anticipated television offering, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which premieres on Disney+ on Friday, March 19. Wandaās return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.

The Dream Crosser
Surprise! NaPoWriMo didn't kill me (and I'm not abandoning dA because of the incoming Eclipse update either, more on that situation here), I just needed a week off to recuperate...and obsessively play Animal Crossing: New Horizons... Admittedly, I actually drew this well over a month ago (and wrote up the majority of the description!), not just before NaPoWriMo but before I actually had New Horizons in my grasp. The plan was to post it the day I got the game. Which was supposed to be much closer to the game's launch (March 20th). That ended up not happening and the day I got the game was the first day of NaPoWriMo, but 1. I messed up with the non-uniform prompts and spent all of the day trying to catch up so I couldn't even play the game yet, and 2. As a side effect, I ended up having two posts that day and a lot of work to do to catch up the second, and I hardly had time to think about posting this. And even if I had posted it, it would've been drowned in the incoming NaPoWriMo posts. And so, here we are. Really, really, I do have to mention that I truly feel for anyone else still waiting on the game for whatever reason. You have my deepest sympathy and I'm so sorry I can't just give you the game right now and make it better. Ā I know the wait was hard enough for me, being this is the one game I highly anticipated in over a year and I essentially had the rug yanked out from under me. But I'll save that story for after I talk about the art itself since I'm sure that's what most people are here for and not my pre-order frustrations. So in case you don't know or couldn't tell, this is the lovely Luna from AC: New Leaf's Dream Suite. From what we've seen of New Horizons since it's release, the Dream Suite's functions and purpose have been mostly absolved into the Airport and Dodo Codes, and so I'm very doubtful Luna will actually be in the game in any capacity, which makes me sad. A typical player (including me) wouldn't even necessarily interact with Luna that much in New Leaf unless you really enjoy visiting other towns using Dream Codes, so I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason I just really like her. That's why I picked her to draw to celebrate. I very nearly drew her a long time ago when I was on an Animal Crossing kick in 2018, but at the time I didn't like the idea of pressuring myself into drawing all and/or multiple AC characters just because I wanted to be "fair" to them all (much the same reason I don't draw Pokemon very often), so I ended up drawing One Little Spark, a crossover of the Disney character Figment drawn in the New Leaf style, instead. So in a way, she's had this coming for quite a while. At the time I started working on her, (way back in early March, because I was hoping beyond hope my pre-order would arrive to me actually on launch day, but ha ha ha look who's got egg on her face for that ) I was running a bit dry on artistic motivation, and so while I tried to draw her in my usual manner: Making a sketch, transferring the sketch onto different paper with finalized lines, then picking whichever coloring method I was most into at the time), I was struggling with the sketch. I've had days where I have to work on a sketch for a really long time before I can get something I'm happy with, but this day I was just so not into the whole sketching process. I wanted to create, but I wanted it to be quick and easy and simple. I didn't want to have to poke at it for hours and hours and then still maybe not be happy when I was done. So when I got discouraged enough, I broke away from trying to draw Luna and just drew mandalas instead. (As had become my art-block crutch for a little while.) Somewhere in me, as I worked on other things, I kept going back and forth on what to do about Luna, though. I did still want to draw her, but my usual formula just wasn't working for me. Not for her. I even tried briefly to draw her linelessly, digitally, as what was supposed to be a quick and simple experiment, but that went downhill even faster than sketching did. Although, for some reason, the lineless idea wouldn't leave me alone after that. Finally, I decided to try something completely different. I was going to try and free-handedly draw her, without lines, traditionally. With, primarily, alcohol markers. Honestly, the thought minorly horrifies me now just as much as it did before I started. And yet, here we are and I actually like how it turned out. Allow me to explain how this came together: So, since I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out once I decided to try it, I opted to use my not-so-great mixed media paper so I wouldn't feel guilty about wasting better paper if I ended up hating it. Naturally, this did lead to some notable limitations, but not enough to discourage me from trying. I dove right in with the dark brown for her head and body, focusing on getting the general shapes down. I'd noticed some glaring mistakes in my mostly unproductive sketching when it came to Luna's body proportions, so I tried to keep those things in mind and adjust accordingly as I went. It was scary because there is no erasing this way short of using white paint and because this paper feathers pretty noticeably with markers. Then once I got to a certain point, I had to switch and bring in some pink and off-white markers to draw in parts of her dress so I knew where to put her other arm and her legs. And here is where I technically cheated; I did use my "clear" Stardust Gelly Roll pen to do most of the outlines for her dress. I needed some kind of guideline, but pencil tends to get yucky when you put markers on top and at the time I couldn't really think of a better option. (The joke was kind of on me because somehow I still got a nasty gray line that looked like pencil under her bust that I had to gently edit out later in Photoshop, but I digress.) As I went with the markers, I was also doing some light shading. Not too much, because this paper is really fussy with layers and blending, but enough that I felt like it didn't look completely flat and I could tell where one shape ended and another started. Though, for her nose (trunk? I believe Luna is supposed to be a Tapir) and her raised arm, I had to get a little creative and I used a white brush pen meant for glass/ceramics to put in the lines so you could actually see them. And later I would use the same pen in 3-4 layers to add the white back in for her eyes. With the base for her body, dress, and the bun part of her hair done though, then I had the task of figuring out what to do for her shoes and the details of her face. (Without having to mix and use specific paint for those tiny details.) In the end, I opted to mostly use my classic red Gelly Roll pen for her shoes, and a little bit of a dark red alcohol marker for shading. And then I got to experiment with mixing the classic red and one of the Moonlight Gelly Rolls for her lips so that the color would be visible and not just a dark lip-shaped "what is this." This was because the classic Gelly Rolls don't show up super well on dark surfaces and the Moonlight ones do, but I didn't have the right color straight out of a Moonlight pen. It did take 2-3 careful layers, but I think I managed well enough in the end. I used just one black pen, a Prismacolor brush-tip fine liner, for her eyes, though in-person the white base underneath makes her pupils look about a shade or two lighter from certain angles, which was a very unintentional nice touch. My answer to everything else ended up being gouache, although I did try to come up with pen colors for her eye shadow and the blue dots on her cheeks before admitting defeat that I just didn't have the colors I needed. Originally, I had actually been thinking of trying a lineless art piece with gouache, as I think it would work particularly well for that look, but I wasn't ready to fully commit to the idea, mostly because I seem to be even worse at mixing a non-excessive amount of a specific color with gouache than I am with acrylics, and that sounds like a fantastic way to waste a bunch of palette space because I mixed too much but it's gouache so it can be re-wet and re-use it and I don't want to just throw it away... Ā (Although I suppose this could be half-way solved by getting a bigger palette specifically for mixing gouache, but I also don't want to have to buy yet another palette when I have some perfectly good ones...If I could just use up all the paint in them already...) Anyway. Point: This is kind of a step between a full lineless gouache piece and not doing one at all. Baby steps, yes? I knew from fairly early on that I was probably going to have to use gouache for the front part of her hair/bangs, since I did not thoroughly plan ahead enough and didn't leave a gap there to do it with markers. Fortunately, I didn't have to do much mixing since my gouache already has a nice yellow ochre color included, and I could use a bit of the other two browns and one I had some leftover mixed already from Roses in Your Eyes for shading. (White for the flowers, too, thank goodness.) And I actually ended up going over most of her bun with gouache too since, by comparison, the marker didn't look like it had much shading and it was bothering me. I did have to mix my own blue and pinky-purple for her makeup, and I ended up with a lot of leftover pinky-purple. But it's kind of okay because by itself it's such a pretty color I'm sure I'll find an excuse to use that one. After that, I just had to do some minor tweaks where the gouache had gotten a bit away from me and then I went ham on the shading for the dress based on my reference photo. Then I realized I wanted some kind of background because this seemed awfully boring without one. And, naturally, I hadn't really planned ahead for that, me being me and being in habit of doing the background last... At first, I wanted to do something hot pink, since her official Amiibo card has a hot pink background, but then I thought that might be a little too loud and I wasn't really sure the best way to apply one without potentially messing her up. And also, this isn't watercolor or paper thicker than 140 lb, which immediately threw watercolor out the window unless I wanted a very uneven paper when I was finished. I'd already pushed my luck with the gouache and been very careful about not using much water with it; I decided it was best not to push my luck any farther. Also, I couldn't use my pink PanPastel, despite that being maybe my best option, because it is still perpetually screwed onto the little Pan Pastel stack with no hope of getting unstuck anytime soon. (One of these days I swear, I will order either another set like the one I have or an individual Pink one to solve this problem, but until then, I am going to bring it up every single time as a caution to others to please be very careful when screwing and unscrewing your own Pan Pastels if you store them screwed together.) And I didn't feel like dragging out some of my drawing pastels and/or makeup that's too expired to use on my face and very slowly building up color and hoping it'll do what the Pan Pastels do. With no better ideas coming to me, I decided I'd leave the drawing for the night and come back to it the next day. After yet more brainstorming the next day, I finally settled on doing a glittery rounded rectangle and filling it with washi tape stripes. This plan did change a little as I figured out which tapes I wanted to use (a purple-y, champagne gold, and light pink ones, the latter two of which look more different in-person than they do on the scan) and as I actually started applying the lines. Partially because this tape is a bit thin and partially because I'm not used to cutting tape around very specific shapes, it took a very long time to both place strips of the tape and then get them cut to fit right up to Luna without looking strange. Once I got to a certain point going in one direction, I realized my next couple of cuts were just going to be too hard for me to stand. I had a choice: Ditch the tape, or figure something else out. Taking a risk, I decided to try and salvage it by doing an almost-plaid/checkerboard with the tape, specifically leaving out certain areas where I knew it would be too tricky to cut the tape. This also turned out to be a good way to use up some of the pieces of tape I'd already cut off that were too small to be used the other way. It's still not the greatest background solution I've ever come up with, but it does the job of making it look less empty, and that's really all I wanted anyway. And you know, compared to official images her proportions look wonky, but by herself (meaning, without comparing the two) I think Luna looks pretty good, actually. (Though, I admit I did have to tweak her right ear in Photoshop because it came out entirely too long and there wasn't really a good way for me to fix it by hand.) To think, this piece started out as such a mess. Or rather, I was such a mess when I started. And yet, here we are, and it looks kinda okay. Okay enough that I finished it and am posting it, at least. Ā I have no idea if I'll be returning to this style/method for art-making in the future, but even if I don't it was a nice experiment to try, and that's what art is really all about isn't it? Experimenting, trying new things? Speaking of experimenting though, about those pre-order frustrations I mentioned now that I've covered everything about the art itself...(in small text for those that don't care to easily skip over) Back in February I tried twice to pre-order New Horizons from Target, since they were running an ad where if you pre-ordered the game you'd also get an AC themed journal with it, and that combined with my family member's employee discount made it the cheapest/best value way for us to buy the game. As I said, I tried to order it twice. Both times, it was sold out. My family member had even tried to go to the store and have them order it before then, to no avail. After the second time, which was the day after Target sent out the sale paper with the new ad in it, while I was still frustratedly wondering how on earth do you sell out of a pre-order?? I kept refreshing the page every so often just to see if by some fluke it would miraculously not be sold out. I got very lucky around 3 in the afternoon and we managed to get the order in before it sold out again. Now, we're a relatively cheap family, so we didn't pay for the "express shipping" or whatever. Although, this was a $60 game and we were ordering it three whole weeks (on March 2nd) before release. If you ask me, the least they could do is have it shipped out either on launch day (March 20th) or the day after. Especially if I can pre-order a book on Amazon with three days' notice and they can still get it to me on release day. But, okay, I could live with waiting an extra day or up to maybe three if I had to. (And, to be fair, this was all before a certain virus exploded into chaos here in the US.) Much to my dismay, a week before NH release day, I checked the order status with Target only to be told I wouldn't get it until the 26th. A week later. That was pretty disappointing at the time, but it didn't really bother me until the day before and the day of launch when some people were getting their pre-orders early from places like Amazon and Best Buy (and some of them didn't even pay for the express shipping option from their selected source). If those two companies could plan around virus constraints to do that, why in the heck couldn't Target? But, okay, fine. Maybe the virus had something to do with it and they were really doing the best they could. Whatever. A week. Fine. I'll wait a week. A few days later though, we got an email saying: Surprise! Don't expect your dumb video game until April 3rd because we couldn't get our act together! (Okay, that's not what it really said, but that's what it felt like.) And I know, I promise I so know there are much more serious issues going on in the world right now and a video game about talking animals isn't exactly a priority shipment. I know. But it was still massively upsetting after I'd already waited so long. And, honestly, I feel like they had plenty of time and notice to take care of the game before everything else exploded and messed it all up. Again, especially if other companies already had time to even ship orders early and/or get the games to people on launch day. Or the day after. TWO WEEKS after launch, and you don't tell me about the secondary delay until the week I started expecting the game to already be in the mail on it's way to me? The only tiny silver lining is that as I was checking the order to make sure it didn't miraculously get pushed back to sometime in 2021 (because I really had no faith in Target's time estimates at this point) is that it did get bumped back up to April 1st. Although, I did think that it would be the absolute least funny April Fools' Day Joke ever if the day came and it was late because screw me. Ā But it did arrive to me on April 1st as promised; I just had a million other things to do before I could play it. ) And I will say, I know I could've just canceled the pre-order and bought the game digitally, but it was enough of a hassle to order it in the first place, and if I did that I'd also lose my pre-order bonus. And all that aside, I specifically wanted a physical copy to begin with. I always prefer that when it's possible. So people on the internet that want to eat me alive for not canceling when the shipping got screwed up, there are my reasons. Take 'em or leave 'em. (Seriously, I've seen some people be really rude about this just because they didn't like hearing people upset that they didn't have the game yet...when they already had it themselves or didn't care about AC in the first place...) Moral of the story: Don't pre-order from Target. Or, at least, don't expect the item to actually get to you right around release day. Account for at least two additional weeks of not having the thing. ...Seriously though, how do you sell out of a pre-order?? At least, when it's a highly anticipated game and you're a big company and not some small indie company with limited resources! Sheesh! Anyway. I have the game now, I've been playing it as much as possible and enjoying it. I still have a ways to go before my island is "complete" per se, but it's coming along nicely and I feel more comfortable now taking some more time away from it to get back into the swing of making art and things like that. So hopefully I'll be getting back into a regular posting schedule and you'll have that to look forward to.Ā

A complete Frozen 2 trailer analysis and breakdown + my own theory
I will be covering both trailers in this post so it will get long as well as bringing up many things I havenāt seen other people say, particularly on youtube. Another thing I will be bringing up is leaks that the general public does not know so if you donāt want spoilers please do not keep reading. Though the spoilers are quite light and only reference small points of the plot that will most likely be revealed in the coming months.Ā There are one or two screencaps I wonāt bring up because theyāre irrelevant and only showed up in the trailer for show.
EDIT: After annecy new information has dropped. This will be edited to include those spoilers.
One thing Iād like to clear up is that these are both teaser trailers and not full ones. I believe Disney will be releasing a full one that will be less vague in September. These Frozen trailers are an anomaly that I personally think were only done this way because of the Aladdin controversy. Disney never release teaser trailers that early. The one released in June was cut up and released in February to move attention away from the controversy which is why it's short and vague.
In the first seconds of the first trailer we see Elsa running towards the ocean. Determined to cross it.
What is she trying to do? Get to Anna because she was shipwrecked? But there's no wreckage around her. And if she wrecked in the middle of the ocean she would have used her magic to try and turn back. Without the context of the second teaser trailer we had no idea what she was doing. Now we know Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf all went on the trip together. So we know it's not Elsa trying to get back home to Anna and Arendelle. She wouldnāt be leaving by herself. During the ocean scene in the second trailer we see her with The Nokk.
A mythological water spirit that Disney describes as a protector of the forest and its secrets. In order to get past the Nokk someone must prove their worth. I believe this is what Elsa is trying to do. Get to the Nokk and let her pass into the forest. Or perhaps she needs its help to defeat something? Another theory is that itās part of a trial she must face in order to gain knowledge. It certainly does not want to harm her. In fact it looks curiously at her and in the illustration they are shown seemingly working together.
If it wanted to harm her it would have done so when she was vulnerable. I heard a rumor that Elsa will form a tight bond with the Nokk and it will be an integral part of the movie but Iām not sure I entirely believe that. I personally believe itās just a protector and another obstacle that Elsa must go through.
Edit: At Annecy we learned that Elsa and the Nokk do in fact have a battle. I still personally believe she is doing this to prove herself to the Nokk.
The next scene shows Anna, looking at the crystals that we now know Elsa created. I will bring up this scene later since it gains more context in the second trailer and is out of place in this trailer.
Now the next scene with Kristoff- there isnāt much to say other than this has to be when they are in the enchanted forest. The setting looks the same and we know they all get separated at some point. I believe heās trying to get back to the rest of the group with the help of Sven and some new friends that Sven made. Itās definitely dramatic so Kristoff probably thinks his family is in extreme danger.
Next we see Anna alone in a cave. This cave must be the one we see Anna and Olaf fall into in the second trailer. They must have been separated after falling off the waterfall and Anna is shown trying to find Olaf. Iād also like to mention that Anna and Olaf are looking up at what seems to be an Earth Giant (the one shown in the last seconds of the second trailer) before they get to the waterfall.
If you look at the screencaps the rock looks different and oddly shaped, perhaps itās a foot. The reason it doesnāt attack is because itās sleeping. Another thing to mention is their ice boat is obviously made by Elsa. This leads me to believe they separated on purpose.
The next scene we see Olaf and Elsa surrounded by purple fire in the shape of a heart. Elsa is trying to get rid of the fire using her magic. This scene gets more context in the second trailer. We are shown Anna, Sami (from the way they dress they look like Sami, an indigenous group in norway and sweden) and guards possibly from Arendelle fleeing from the fire.
We are also shown Kristoff swooping in and taking Anna as Elsa is on the ground (most likely with Olaf behind her) in the same scene. Perhaps Elsa told them to flee so she could face the person putting them in danger with her magic. Other than that thereās not much we can take from this scene besides the possibility that someone is probably trying to keep the forest safe from intruders.
After the scene with purple fire we are shown two new characters that I have a whole theory on. Their analysis will be saved for last. The only thing I'd like to say before moving on is that these two could not possibly be Iduna and Agnarr. You donāt just turn ginger if youāre blonde and the girl seems to have tanner skin than Iduna, yes it could be the lighting messing with my eyes or something but the girl also has brown eyes whereas Iduna has light blue. The girl also has a lighter hair color and a different eyebrow shape. And the boy has an upturned nose where Agnarr has a hooked nose. I know there's some āconfirmationā from someone who apparently works at disney but I really donāt believe that. They really look nothing at all alike when you start to analyze their features.
Next the crew is looking at the enchanted forest. This scene most likely takes place after Elsa goes through the fog while revealing the four runes we know to be symbolizing Earth, Water, Air and Fire.
But how can she move the fog? Her powers are of Ice and snow- not Air. Although I guess you could argue her power is water and clouds/fog is a form of water. It's worth mentioning she did make clouds in the first movie as well. But I have another theory as to why she was able to move the fog which I will get into later.
In the last seconds of the first trailer Anna grabs kristoffās sword and attacks someone. In the raw audio file we hear a āwoah!ā Coming from a deep voice. Many believe this is Hans. Considering they went north not south I find this hard to believe. Iām not sure why Hans would be all the way up in the north or why he would make a comeback but on some sites it does show that his voice actor returns so there is a possibility.
Now onto parts of the second trailer I didnāt discuss yet. The events are extremely out of order so instead I will be analyzing it in chronological order.
We are shown a flashback with Elsa and Queen Iduna looking up at aurora borealis. This must be the night that Elsa hurt Anna. If you look at the wallpaper itās different from Elsaās single room and looks the same as the one in Anna and Elsaās room. Iduna must be explaining something about her past to her as that is what Grandpappie talks about in the background.
Next Elsa is shown chasing magic that is constantly changing form and shape. She is definitely singing in this scene so we know it is extremely important. I have seen people say this is a dream because sheās in a nightgown and itās black all around her but I disagree. Considering the fact that sheās shown chasing the magic off a cliff outside and at her feet is grass.
And the very next thing she does is use her magic to summon the crystals with runes.Ā
EDIT: From the spoilers dropped at the Annecy festival we have learned that this scene takes place after the main group just finished playing charades and went to bed. Throughout this time Elsa hears a voice and begins to look for it. This leads her outside where she begins to use her magic along with the magic message she is chasing.
Anna notices this and runs to the balcony in the first trailer. I believe these crystals showed up around the entire kingdom which made the trolls take notice. Which is why they come to Elsa, Anna and Kristoff in front of regular townsfolk who went outside to see what was happening. Ā
The trolls have come of course, to tell Elsa she must travel north. There she will learn of her past and an ancient evil our heroes must face.
Back to the scene with Elsa chasing around magic- this is where I start to get into my theory. I theorize that Elsa is chasing a message sent to her. It shows the Nokk and the Earth Golemās that she later faces and then turns into autumn leaves that we know references the enchanted forest. This message is telling her to come to the enchanted forest and showing her what she must face in order to figure out her past.Ā
Edit: I still believe that she is chasing a message. After all, the magic she chases suddenly disappears and it doesnāt look like ice/snow magic in my opinion.Ā
I would like to bring up this leak:
In it it says āalong the journey she will discover the life she was meant to liveā.
This might seem far fetched but- remember those kids we saw in the first trailer?They are in the enchanted forest and someone we donāt see uses wind magic. I believe these three kids are guardians of the forest that Elsa was supposed to grow up with and the scene we see is a flashback. The girl possibly has fire powers, the boy being blown into the air has earth magic and obviously the character we donāt see has wind magic. Elsa is the one that symbolizes water. Remember how I talked about the fog that covered the entrance to the forest before? The reason I believe she was able to move it is because she is of the four children of the elements meant to go through it. A normal person who is not worthy canāt pass unless one of the elemental sorcerers was with them.
One thing that could debunk this is their clothes. The boy seems to be a noble considering the colors and style while the girl a commoner. If theyāre supposed to be growing up together it wouldnāt make sense theyād dress so differently but maybe iām looking to deep into it.
Edit: Part of this could have been debunked as it is rumored/implied the boy we see is in fact Elsa and Annaās father. Do I really believe that? Iām not sure. Like I said before they donāt really look alike to me so Iām still skeptical. Though parts of my theory still stands. It just means the kids we see in the flashback will be much older if we see them in the present.
I heard a theory that perhaps Grandpappie was asked to remove parts of Elsaās memory long ago. Which is why he said āthe past is not what it seemsā. Perhaps Iduna took Elsa away from these group of sorcerers to be raised as a princess instead. We know that Iduna will be an important character and this might be a stretch but when I went to see the frozen musical on Broadway Iduna had a closer relationship to āthe hidden folkā. So maybe she had asked grandpappie for help to remove Elsaās memories. Why? I am not at all sure. Thereās not enough context or leaks for motive. The obvious motive is something dangerous but we donāt know what the danger is.
In the same illustration it says that an ancient magic awakens. This is something we still have no knowledge of so I canāt really guess what it is.
Next Iād like to bring up this leak:
Judging from this I think Anna will most likely be on the back burner in this movie. In the trailers she doesnāt smile once but Elsa is constantly excited and is shown smiling many times. Elsa and Anna seemed to have completely flipped from the first movie. This movie will be showing everyone separated many times and will bring many new characters to the table. We know there's going to be three new important characterās- at least important enough to get funko pops.
There are more leaks out but I donāt think theyāre relevant so I wonāt be sharing. Iām too lazy to go and look for sources but I might link them later. If you really wanna see them just look on the tumblr or twitter search honestly theyāre everywhere but no influential people are doing coverage on it.
All in all those are my thoughts and analysis on the frozen 2 teaser trailers. I am so excited for this movie. Let me know what your theories are in the comments or if you have any additions to what iāve said just let me know!

The Disney Princess Dilemma

Kingdom Hearts 3 has been a game filled with massive highs and devastating emotional lows. And while the game is both a critical and financial success for Square Enix, the opinions of dedicated fans have been rather divided. Overall the game is an amazing piece of entertainment, but there is one aspect of the narrative that most fans seem to agree is the gameās biggest flaw, the rather weak portrayal of itās female characters, in particular Kairi.
Now before I dive in any deeper I want to make a few things clear. Kairi is one of my favourite characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, and has been since I first got into the series well over 15 years ago. As such this post is intended as a character study and discussion, not an excuses to bash on Kairiās character or Nomuraās ability as a writer. I adore Kairi and Iāve got far too much respect for Nomura as a creative to so thoughtlessly throw hate around. Secondly, while I will be referring to certain characterās as being āPrincesā and āPrincessesā, shipping has got nothing to do with this, they are simply Disney character archetypes I want to explore. There is no hidden agenda here, just an honest discussion. Alrighty, this is going to be a long one, letās jump in!
As it stands we have no idea what the future plot of the Kingdom Hearts series holds, the only person who does know is Nomura. Perhaps everything weāve seen so far is all part of a bigger master plan that will one day blow all our collective minds away. But until then when it comes to the problem surrounding Kairiās portrayal in Kingdom Hearts 3, the best way we can find the answers for where things potentially went wrong is to look back.
Since I completed the game and begun to see many of the complaints surrounding Nomuraās writing of Kairi, I begun to wonder how had it all come to this. A lot of people have concluded the main issue is that Nomura just doesnāt like Kairi anymore and he no longer knows what to do with her. Personally I donāt think thatās the case. If Nomura really was tired of her and she wasnāt working into his long term plans then he would have written her out of the plot a long time ago. But he didnāt. Kairi has continued to make significant appearances in a majority of the titles in the series. She has been front and centre in the promotional material for Kingdom Hearts 3, a great deal of the the gameās opening was focused on her, (even more so than Aqua which really surprised me), and the ending of the game seemingly sets Kairi right at the heart of whatever is about to come next in Soraās journey. So then what went wrong? If Nomura doesnāt hate Kairi and isnāt bored with her then why was she relegated once again to the role of the damsel in distress? Well I believe it all comes back to her original role in the Kingdom Hearts series, Kairi is Square Enixās Disney Princess.
One thing we have to keep in mind whenever you consider the development of a Kingdom Hearts game is that Disney is always at the heart of development process. Not just in the creation of the Disney worlds, but in how the original characters are designed, how they act, and how the overall story progresses. Kingdom Hearts is this weirdly impossible mix of JRPG and Disney storytelling that somehow works to create an utterly amazing greater whole. As such each character by design, especially in the case of the original Kingdom Hearts, can be seen as fitting into a number of well known Disney archetypes.

Most classic Disney films have three main character types the plot centres around, the Prince/Hero, the Villain, and the Princess. As the first game in the series, the developers wanted to make sure every aspect of the game was filled with that beloved Disney Magic. We see that Sora, Riku and Kairi were all purposefully written to embody these three classic archetypes. Sora is the daring Prince, heās our hero and the one we know will save the day no matter what. Likewise Riku comes to embody the role of the Villain, as we constantly see him attempt to get in Soraās way and undermine his journey. Now before any RIku fans jump down my throat, Riku obviously isnāt the true villain of the game as he also embodies that age old JRPG role of the rival to Soraās hero. So we always knew Riku would be redeemed by the gameās end, but that doesnāt change the fact that for a time Riku was one of the bad guys. That of course means Kairi is the Princess, but not just any princess, she is purposefully written to embody the traits of a classic Disney Princess.
In Kingdom Hearts lore the original seven Princess of Hearts were comprised of Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Jasmine, Belle, Alice and Kairi. The Disney Princess are all very recognisable, and considering they are now the 7th highest grossing media franchise of all time (Iām not kidding! They make more money then the entire Harry Potter/Wizarding World franchise), it makes sense to see them grouped together in Kingdom Hearts. In comparison, at the time Kairi was a brand new character that the player knew very little about, and had never been associated with the Princesses before. So in order for her inclusion as a Princess of Heart in the narrative to work, Nomura needed to develop her character in such a way that the player would see and accept her as essentially a new Disney Princess. The best way to accomplish this then, with perhaps the exception of Alice in Wonderland, was to have Kairiās role in the game unfold in a similar manner to what we often see occur in the other Princessesā films, the often helpless Princess being captured or tormented by the villain, then eventually saved by the Prince. Thatās why every time we see Kairiās lifeless body throughout the entire game we canāt help thinking of Sleepy Beauty, because thatās exactly what Nomura wantās us to see. The game directly draws on the plot of Sleeping Beauty, Kairi embodies the sleeping Aurora, Sora is Prince Phillip charging forth with enchanted sword in hand, while Riku is being manipulated by the central villain of Sleepy Beauty herself, Malificent. Nomuraās narrative cements the subliminal suggestions in our minds and archives his goal, Kairi becomes a new kind of Disney Princess.

The narrative of having Kairi saved by Sora worked quite well in the original Kingdom Hearts, because the overall intention of that game was to create an experience reminiscent of the classic Disney films everyone grew up on. And while she was relegated to the role of damsel in destress for a large portion of the story, Kairi does get her moment to shine and show us that thereās more to being a princess than simply waiting to be rescued. Kairi represents the inner strength that balances out Sora and Rikuās outward power. Its a theme that has come to be associated with her character throughout all the main entries in the series.
So what was next for Kairi? Well as it turns out more of the same it seems. Kairi unfortunately finds herself being kidnapped by the villains once again in Kingdom Hearts 2, likely due to Nomura again wanting to make it clear that Kairi is the Princess of this story. But first lets take a look at the development of Kairiās design over the course of the series. While initially being presented as a rather normal teenage girl in the first game, during the development of Kingdom Hearts 2 there was a conscious push to make Kairi even more Princess like than she had been in previous games. Her hair is longer, she wears a pretty pink dress now rather than shorts and tank tops, and her overall appearance is much more elegant and mature. In a cast interview with Kairiās then english voice actress, Hayden Panettiere, itās mentioned that she was often asked to raise her voice a few octaves to make Kairi sound more like a Princess. Kairiās physical Princess evolution is pushed even further in Kingdom Hearts 3 when she is given a new battle dress and a hair cut that is somewhat reminiscent of Snow White. While this new outfit does appear hardier then her previous design, unlike her fellow Guardians Kairi does not wear any form of gloves or gauntlets to protect her hands, instead only wearing a few bracelets. Comparing her Kingdom Hearts 3 outfit to that of Sora and Rikuās does bring into question itās overall practicality, but she is a Princess and the design makes that very clear visually.

For the sake of character development and future plot progression it makes sense to bring Kairiās role as a Princess of Heart to the forefront, as it would soon come to play an even greater part in Kingdom Hearts lore. Having been born with a heart of pure light makes Kairi very unlike any other character in the series. But it seems in order to press upon the player that yes indeed Kairi is a Princess, In Kingdom Hearts 2 Nomura fell back on the old Princess needing to be saved by the Prince plot device in order to drive that home. Thankfully though things are changed up a bit this time around. Kairi is sick of waiting around, and whenever she gets the chance to strike out on her own to find her friends, both before and after being kidnapped, she does so without hesitation. Sheās even given a Keyblade and is finally able to fight for herself this time! Hurray! Overall it isnāt great that Nomura chose to make Kairi the old school Disney damsel in distress again, but despite this we do see determination and growth in her character. Perhaps not as much as we see in Sora and Riku, but there is development none the less and by the end most fans were excited to see how she would continue to grow as a character in future instalments.

For a good while it did seem that Nomura was hinting at Kairi taking on a much bigger role in the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3. It was revealed in Dream Drop Distance that Yen Sid intended for her to be trained as a Keyblade Wielder, ensuring she would become one of the Guardians of Light and take part in the second Keyblade War. And as I mentioned previously, Kairi was quite often front and centre in most of Kingdom Hearts 3ās marketing material. Her line āThis time, Iāll protect youā was constantly used throughout said marketing for the game. It all looked promising for Kairi! But then we all know what happened.
Now before we jump into Kingdom Hearts 3 itself letās take a step back to the years following the release of Kingdom Hearts 2, and consider what was happening over at Disney Animation at the time. After nearly a decade of creating films that were mostly considered not up to scratch, Disney decided to go back to their most tried and true formula for creating successful animated films, adapting fairytales, specifically Princess movies. While this was the most sensible choice to make, Disney were also keenly aware that their older brand of Disney Princess film would likely no longer appeal to a modern audience. Today young girls want to look up to brave, strong and charismatic heroines who arenāt afraid to carve out their own path in life. Watching a movie about a Princess waiting to be saved just wasnāt going to cut it anymore. So Disney adapted and ever since then weāve been introduced to an all new kind of Disney Princess, Tiana, Rapunzel, Elsa, Anna and Moana, Princesses who are the hero of their own stories.
This is what audiences have come to expect of the Princesses, to stand proudly on their own two feet, no longer being relegated to position the damsel in distress. So when it was announced that Tangled and Frozen would be brand new worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3 it set an exception in the minds of fans. Here we had two beloved Disney films that feature strong and brave Princesses as the central characters. It only makes sense then that we should expect the same strength to flow through to the wonderful ladies of Kingdom Hearts. But that didnāt happen. Instead nothing really changed for any of them, and instead of pushing Kairi to grow into the modern Princess we all want her to be, Nomura held her back.
Now the question we need to ask here is why? Why did Nomura choose to not follow the new Disney trend when he has stuck so closely to their lead in the past? I suppose the only person who can truly answer that question is the man himself. But lets try and think about this logically, as I can see two likely reasons why this occurred. The first is the fact that overall Square Enix and many other gaming companies still donāt do a great job when it comes to writing realistic and truly relatable female characters. Not to say there are none, but it is still a prevalent problem none the less. Case and point Lunafreya from Final Fantasy XV. The fact that in order to get a true understanding of Lunafreya as a character and her true feelings, weāre going to have to read a novel that acts as an alternate happy ending to the original game says a lot. But Iām getting off topic here! The track record for the development of female characters in games isnāt great, thatās not an excuse and game companies really need to start doing better, but it is a possible explanation for why the plot of Kingdom Hearts 3 unfolded the way it did.
The second and more likely reason to have Kairi play the Princess in distress to Soraās hero once again was probably due to time constraints. AAA video game production is a massive undertaking with very strict deadlines. As a result developers are often forced to sacrifice interesting story elements and mechanics in order to make sure that a game is able to reach said deadlines in a solid and workable condition. Final Fantasy XV is again an excellent example of this and what can go wrong. In the time since the gameās release it has more or less been confirmed that due to the incredibly strained production of the game a vast majority of story content was cut out, and the game was left in a rather obvious unfinished state narrative wise. We know that the engine swap during the development of Kingdom Hearts 3 from the Luminous to the Unreal engine had a big impact on the gameās development time, and pushed itās final release date back significantly. So it goes without saying that things would have been cut in order to make up for lost time. The fact Nomura has confirmed that we will be receiving DLC fleshing out Xionās role in Kingdom Hearts 3 more or less confirms this. At the end of the day Square Enix is a business and sometimes sacrifices need to be made in order to ensure a product can be developed properly and efficiently.
There is every possibility that Nomura had planned a number of different ways for Kairi to develop and grow as a protagonist in Kingdom Hearts 3 before her tragic death occurred, perhaps even fighting back as much as she could before being captured. But the problem lies in just how many loose ends needed to be tied up in the game with the limited development time they had. So much attention need to be paid to as many characters as possible to wrap everything up that you run the risk of the game becoming bloated, or things feeling rushed and unfinished. Iām not saying it was the right choice to cut out Kairiās potential character growth, but we can see why it was easier for Nomura to fall back on having her be easily kidnapped again to move that part of the plot forward as quickly as possible so the momentum didnāt slow down. She is a Princess after all, right? Well no, that reasoning isnāt an excuse anymore, audiences expect far more from the Princesses and its time for Square Enix to follow Disneyās lead.
So what can be done? If the reason Kairi is being held back is due to her role as a Princess then can it be fixed? The simple answer is yes, it can. Disney have already clearly laid out what they now expect of female heroines and Princesses in their films. With the less than positive critical response to the development of the female protagonists in Kingdom Hearts 3, Square would be crazy not to jump at the chance to give fans what we want to see. Nomura clearly understood what it meant for a character to be a Disney Princess during the development of Kingdom Hearts 1, and Iām sure heās very aware that audience expectations have changed. What needs to be done now is for Square to take that step forward alongside Disney and allow Kairi move on from her role as a Classic Princess and finally grow into a Modern Disney Princess, not simply fall back on old writing habits out of convenience. By voicing our opinions in an honest and constructive manner on social media platforms such as Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram ect. Square Enix and Nomura will hear us. We need only tell them that not only do we want to see more from Kairi, but that we want her to stand proudly as one of the new Princesses of Heart alongside Elsa, Anna and Rapunzel, a positive embodiment of the new bread of Disney Hero.

Iām pretty sure there might be parallels between Isa/SaĆÆx and that anime doll in the Toy Story world. What tipped me off was the blue hair and green eyes, rabbit ears, and the cutscene afterwards stating it was possessed and attacked its fellow toys against its own will. Which makes it all the more jarring considering how much control SaĆÆx and the other Norts all seem to have in KH3.

An unlucky denizen of Galaxy Toys that was possessed by a Marionette.Unpredictable and erratic, her moves made her a maddening foe to face. After Sora and his team freed her from the Marionetteās ill influence, she bore a melancholy expression.
I didnāt make the connection until you pointed it out, but youāre right. The doll does bear an uncanny resemblance to Isa, lol. The hair color, the eye color, the eye shape, nose and lips. Even the rabbit ears. I suppose gothic lolita fashion is the doll equivalent of Organization XIII robes, too. And I mean, hey. Yozora does look like Riku. The characters even admit it. I wouldnāt be surprised at all if the doll was inspired by Isa as a reference to what he was supposed to be. Maybe as an inside joke on the part of the development team.Buzz was afraid theyād wind up like her. Forgetting themselves and attacking each other. Which he did.

Ya know, now that I think about it, itās very common to see Alice dressed up in that kinda gothic lolita fashion in anime art. Alice in Wonderland is often used as a literary example of a āLower Worldā journey in shamanism: she fell down the rabbit hole and landed in a world full of mysterious creatures and strange experiences. If taken allegorically, all the elements a shaman might encounter in the Underworld are represented during her adventure; from puzzles, to transformations, to guides and guardians and the journey itself ā finding the white rabbit.Ā

Alice: Yes! I canāt remember anythingānot even my name!
Sora: Thatās awful! And strangely familiarā¦ Have we met?

All these elements represent the astral world sheās journeying through. Itās very similar to the Realm of Sleep. I think thatās why Wonderland was chosen as a world in 358/2 Days and Re:Coded.Ā So itās possible that the doll is not only based on Isa, but anĀ āAlice in Wonderlandā version of him. It mixes Alice, who is in a strange dream world, with the White Rabbit design.

Young Xehanort: I thought I made it clear. I am testing the strength of their bonds. In this world, toys have hearts. And those hearts come from a powerful bond. So what happens when those bonds are stretched to their limit? When they are worlds apart, can cloth and plastic hold onto their hearts? All I needed was a wedge to widen the divideāsomeone like you to fill them with distrust and doubt. And that chasm you created can be filled with a vast darkness. Witness it for yourself.
The possessed version even has orange eyes. Itās kinda sad that this doll does a better job representing the whole idea behind Isaās character than the canon depiction. Because that is exactly what Isa was turned into, like all vessels. A doll/puppet for Xehanortās heart and mind. Itās SO stupid how they were all given free will in KH3. By far one of the worst plot decisions that game made IMO.Ā It completely ruined all that was interesting about the Seekers of Darkness. Isa would have been the first successful vessel, other than Terra and Braig. Terra put up a fight, and Braig was willing. I think Isa was the first vessel he created by turning them into an empty shell without a sense of self first. So, the doll being designed like Isa would make perfect sense.
And I swear, for someone who was allegedly in complete control of himself, Saix sure does have some of the blankest expressions Iāve ever seen. Heās the only Organization member in that illustration who looks soā¦out of it. Like, his eyes look totally glazed over. Itās just like how Terra looked after he became a vessel. Like thereās nobody home. Even in the final battle, Isa just looks like heās so unaware of himself. Which is actually what happens to berserker warriors. They are said to fight in a trance-like state. And when people are put under severe enough stress, their fight or flight mode kicks in, and they can enter a berserk state where the parts of the brain that control the sense of self shut down. But Iām doing a separate post on that. I think itās relevant to the experiments.
Randall: But negative energy? Especially sadness? GiveĀ āem something that really breaks their little hearts, and theyāll stay sad forever. Weāll never have to worry about energy again.
Itās funny. All the Disney worlds in KH3 have such a strong thematic connection to the Xehanort Saga, but they still wound up feeling totally irrelevant. I think Nomura had all of these plans for how they would be connected to the actual story, but their implementation never amounted to anything more than half-baked ideas. Youāve got Young Xehanort who shows up in Galaxy Toys. And his interest in toys is because they are empty puppets, which is how he wants his vessels to be. And heās experimenting on them, testing their bond.
Vanitas: My heart is made of just one thing. And the Unversed collected enough screams and sadness from those children to reconstruct it.
Then thereās Vanitas in Monstroplis, who was using negative emotions to build his heart. I found it really weird that there would be all of this talk about how the new Organization was figuring out the perfect way to get a heart to fall to darkness in the worlds of KH3. Which is what is necessary to create a vessel and presumably what Xehanort was trying to do. Yet, it wasnāt even necessary since there were so many people lining up to join the New Organization completely voluntarily. And how can anyone become a vessel for Xehanortās heart and still be trying to atone? Like Vexen and Saix. You either have to fall to darkness yourself, or you have to have no sense of self to be a suitable vessel. If Saix and Vexen had altruistic intentions, then I highly doubt theyād have enough darkness to sustain Xehanortās heart.Ā Shit makes NO sense.
