I think that Creation has the right-ish idea, at the wrong time. They should've begun experimenting with the broader CW brand's convention potential back when the Arrowverse and TVDverse were hot. Maybe even shuffle a few actors from The 100 into the deck. Replace some SPN actors with some other actors at a few conventions, see how sales compare to SPN-only cons. I'm actually surprised that that didn't happen back in the 2010s. In particular, it blows my mind that they never tried to monetize Katie Cassidy's status as a former member of the regular cast on SPN and ongoing member of the regular cast on Arrow.
Now, that strategy may or may not have worked, but it would've been a better bet than "Jensen and related IPs." At least people had a rough idea of what a CW show was, and many people watched SPN + other CW show(s), as evidenced by SPN's value when paired with them (x). For the most part, The CW made shows about dark themes and imaginary situations. At their best, these featured believable characters, yet remained escapist in the particulars of their plots. AND OH, THE ANGST. Maybe the network was the equivalent of fast food rather than fine dining, but, like successful franchise restaurants, it had more or less consistent products in just enough varieties to keep a broad crowd coming back.
"Jensen and associates from shows he's been in" is a tougher sell, at least at CE prices. I liked his performance as Soldier Boy in The Boys, but it's a wildly different show from SPN, and he didn't get enough great scenes with other characters to justify multiple panels with his co-stars. (I'm still irked by how little screen time he shared with Crimson Countess.) Smallville? Well, they can try, but it's a pretty deep cut, from a different era/iteration of the network, and his character doesn't even seem to be popular. Dark Angel? Good luck convincing personal-care maven Jessica Alba that she should take time off to sit on stage with a colleague, that she didn't even get along with, from 20 years ago.
SPN isn't a family show in the sense of "watch it all with your kindergarteners," but it's a show that many people remember fondly from middle and high school, and that many people now watch with their own middle- and high-school kids. And it's very much about the devastating/transcendent nature of intense relationships. The Boys is a satire of contemporary politics, with a heavy dose of shock value. It doesn't demand investment in any particular relationship, it's gross rather than spooky, and I'd certainly feel weird about watching it with a middle-schooler. At ComicCon or DragonCon, these two shows' audiences would spend most of their time in separate rooms. I don't think that, outside of a Jensen solo panel, fans are going to be happy troopers at a convention built around his résumé.
That could, of course, change, should Jensen get another role more compatible with SPN's brand. But for now, I think that his best bet is the same as Jared's: Do press for current roles, book solo panels at multi-fandom conventions, and avoid cons where he has to carry the interest of all the attendees.
So apparently, per a CE email, they are full on rebranding the 2024 SPN Con Tour as Jensen's:
We have some thrilling news to share with all of our fellow fans of The Boys! Creation is excited to present The Road So Far… The Road Ahead 2024 Tour, featuring none other than Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy in the hit Amazon Prime series. This is a special opportunity for fans to come together and celebrate Jensen Ackles' iconic role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, as well as his new role in The Boys franchise. PLUS, we have more amazing SPN guests on the tour, including Misha Collins ("Castiel"), Jared Padalecki ("Sam Winchester") -- and Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("John Winchester") and Rob Benedict ("Chuck/God"), who will be joining The Boys cast in the upcoming Season 4! Watch the trailer for Season 4 above! Whether you're a longtime fan of Jensen or a new admirer, join us for a weekend filled with panel discussions, meet and greets, photo opportunities, autograph sessions, exclusive merchandise, and more. It’s the perfect chance to connect with your fellow fans and immerse yourself in the world of Supernatural and more. Don't miss out on a wild adventure! Click here and mark your calendars for your favorite destination. Your "The Boys are back!" friends at Creation Entertainment
So now Jared is included in the "amazing SPN guests"??? F*ck off. I know he isn't doing them all but this is just… a low blow tbh. This feels like CE's 'f*ck you' to Jared for branching out and essentially screwing them over.
I'm sure AA's and Jared antis will be celebrating int he streets, but Jared isn't doing less cons, he's just doing less CE cons. Also he's actually working.
Oh this is so funny! Always be careful of what you wish for because Jensen finally got his Dean show and the AAs finally got their Jensen-centric show but we all know AAs are actually sweating bullets that Jared won't be around to save Jensen from himself, and hellers will wonder which one of them is going to ruin Misha's reputation......
.
But seriously, clearly Creation Entertainment saw the math on the wall and the sum of which is a Jared-shaped-hole where money used to be. Jared actually has a career outside of Supernatural , so he Fox-Muldered himself. For reference...
But for Jensen and most alumni, Supernatural will be their best-known gigs. I said here and here 5 years ago that "Misha and the rest of the one hit wonders may have 5 years of con circuit to rake in the money, after that it’s Meet & Greets at strip malls". And that was assuming Jared would still be co-heading with Jensen.
So by now attendances are peeling off and a few actors apparently told their fans that CE reduced their salary to the point that either working at CE is no longer viable or CE essentially fired them. CE is desperate to attract new con-goers by throwing out The Boys mentions and adding Smallville actors and rebranding as "J1 and friends convention"! I wonder if CE is still demanding the same outrageous price for the privilege of a J2 event without one of the Js.
#spn cast#not-mine#mine#long post#i guess some people might consider this#jensen-critical#although i don't really mean it that way#i respect him as an actor#i just don't think he's as good at business#which is not that unusual for artistic types and does NOT mean i hate him or even dislike him

(i got this comment on my comic over at twitter and i thought i'd repost my response here too, because i've gotten similar comments on my other socials)
these are very kind words and i accept the compliment, it makes me happy to see people are enjoying reading through it! but i have to disagree with a couple of things. i think we need to give more credit to the source material here
i am borrowing elements from the sequel. lydia's daugther, beetlejuice and lydia not seeing each other in 30 years, lydia forgetting somewhere along the way what it means to be your strange and unusual self, all of these are parallels i made to the sequel.
i strongly disagree this is how the sequel should've been done. i try to stick to canon as much as i possibly can, but the tone of this comic isn't really beetlejuice. the movie is a dark comedy first and foremost, and the sequel ticked almost every box of what it should be about
beetlejuice's character is gross and weird of course, but every iteration has depth to them. i wouldn't have been able to write this comic otherwise! i'm not really making up BJ's personality here, i'm doing a character study of what is already there, set to a different tone.
i'm saying all this because knowing this is important in order to really appreciate the story i'm presenting. there's no need to praise things i didn't actually do, haha.
i'm aware that there's many people enjoying it without knowing anything about beetlejuice, so i'm not saying you HAVE to be connoisseur or anything. but if you are, you'd notice the callbacks to the show, including the one episode a lot of this conversation is built around.
sorry this got longwinded; i want to say once again that i appreciate the comment! i mean absolutely no offense to Timmy here, it was a sweet thing to say and i hope it's okay that i used this comment as a springboard to say some stuff that's been on my mind
#although i'm not gonna lie; despite the comment being so kind it still reminded me of a type of comment i get sometimes#where the person praises my fanwork while lambasting the source material “wow you made it not suck” type beat yknow what i mean#and i've always thought that feels like backhanded compliment because they're insulting the thing i have genuine passion for#i wouldn't make the things i make if i thought the source material sucked. clearly i'm a big fan of the thing lol#i'm never sure how to answer to those comments because “thanks but i disagree” turns into...well this post#this person was very nice about it compared to other comments i've gotten but they're still putting down the source material#implying that beetlejuice's character has no depth or that the sequel wasn't good so it should've been done this way or that way#i'm not out here trying to “correct” bad media. if i think it's bad then i simply just won't even bother with it#i don't want to be seen as someone who thinks himself greater than the source material#because i've seen some fans act that way about the things they're supposedly big fans of and i really don't get it personally#anyway these tags are getting absurdly long#i'm done now bye

#galarian rapidash#i dunno. this one's very Horse. i always wanna leave my galarian ponyta as a baby forever because i think the magic psychic pony is cute#although i do like the whole. this being in bede's team going from being a psychic trainer to a fairy trainer. he gets to keep this around#and hatterene but we don't. talk. about that#oh also some more snootiferous angles under the cut. all the same angles on this one as on ponyta#i talk a lot about seeing regional forms first and the game not really telling you they're regional forms#and so if it's your first time seeing a pokémon you could conceivably believe that's the normal form of the pokémon#which happened to me with galarian darumaka#but i think this is one pokémon i'd Like that to happen with. because it's much cuter than kantonian ponyta#well this is rapidash. they're about the same. i think i like kantonian rapidash more‚ but galarian ponyta more#although i think it's probably impossible for this pokémon specifically? or any kantonian pokémon#just because they're motherfucking kanto and they're everywhere#you could NEVER mistake one of the original 151#as much as i would like to. resident kanto hater#I MEAN. kanto has a lot of 'mons that i LIKE but it's also KANTO and it's so overDONE#UGH. but i guess having skipped gen 5 as a kid it makes sense i'd see galarian darumaka and stunfisk and see nothing wrong with it#which. by the way. galarian stunfisk is next. stay tuned for the bear trap

If being weak is a "sin" in Crocodile's mind, then isn't a painful defeat and maybe even death rightful punishment for it? A punishment you deserve for your crime of "being weak"? That's an intriguing mindset from him because it makes me wonder how Crocodile might view his own past and the things he has gone through? I might not go as far as to say Crocodile "blames himself" for the things he's gone through, as he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who dwells on the past like that. But I do feel like Crocodile has accepted in his mind that things like losing his hand happened because he was weak, and it was his own fault. That he can not blame anyone else for what has happened to him. He fucked around and he found out.
It's just interesting because to some degree, One Piece thematically does agree with this sentiment, this is a world where the strong eat the weak. (One example at the top of my head; Luffy refusing Katakuri's apology when his sister intervened with their battle, saying he should've dodged the attack properly if he didn't want to get hit.) Chaka falling in this scene and being unable to stop Crocodile may lead to the deaths of so many more, including his loved ones, and if that comes to pass, it's is Chaka's own fault. For being too weak. But also Crocodile has twisted that idea; Crocodile is using his worldview here to justify himself and essentially saying he can do this (take over Alabasta and kill a million innocents doing so) and get away with it because he's powerful. When in reality "weakness is a sin" isn't about the survival of the fittest, but how this is a world where the strong are meant to protect the weak. (See: Luffy) (Also how Pell told Baby Vivi in that flashback about how he trains so he can protect the Royal Family; again, he he craves power not to oppress the weak but to protect them)
But, just to get back to Crocodile again, I feel like this worldview might also give us more insight as to how he acts in certain situations post-Alabasta. Like when we see Crocodile towards the end of Miss Goldenweek's cover story, both when he declines to escape from jail and in his Impel Down mugshot, Crocodile has a smile on his face. That really is the face of a man who has accepted his fate, is it not?
"Welp, this is what I get for losing to a child in flipflops"
Or when we see him come collect his debt from Buggy; Crocodile seemed quite relaxed and fully admitted he had assumed Buggy would've ran away before he even got there to collect his money. Of course, considdering his trust issues Crocodile would've been mentally prepared for Buggy skedaddling anyways, but the fact that he loaned the clown money to begin with while assuming he'd probably never get that money back-- like Crocodile knew that was going to happen and he just accepted it. And just rolled with it.
Of course, when things take an Unpleasant, Unexpected Turn, he will blow a fuse. Multiple, even.
Him angy
IDK man this is all just interesting to me
#Moon posting#OP Meta#Sir Crocodile#No I did not really have a proper thesis for this post#More just that like. IDK although I talk about Crocodile probably having a whole lot of Unresolved Trauma#I don't mean that in a ''he cries himself to sleep every night'' kinda way (doesn't seem like something he'd do anyways)#More in a ''shit changed the way he views the world forever in a negative way'' kinda way#Does that make sense? IDK#But yeah he does seem like he accepts what he has gone through and has moved on from it (taking 'important lessons' with him)#Sidenote I did check what he says in Japanese in this scene and the ''unforgivable'' was added by Viz here. Good localization#Also that does tie in nicely to how Crocodile always seems to have backup plans for his backup plans#How he seems to considder every potential thing that could go wrong and tries to account for them.

Okay so I read onk ch 154 and kamiki literally SAYS Ai was the girl he was willing to sacrifice his own life for. The phrasing is EXACTLY like that. That really lines up with what's being mentioned in Mephisto and Fatal about giving lives and all. Those must be HIS songs and I'm getting this idea that he still means what he says
Because, just when would he have thought about having to "sacrifice" his life for Ai? I don't think thoughts like that would've crossed his mind in the past when they were still young and together, there wasn't a need for something as "dire" as sacrifices then. It must be something that's came after
When they were dating, Ai was the one that was older and SHE was the one who's protected HIM. It looks like she was the one who had more control over the relationship too. She was the one who's probably made the sacrifices(with the breakup being one too, from her point of view) so what circumstance brought kamiki to say he was willing to do that for her? (Though, I get how he'd be like he'd be able to give anything for Ai, it can be inferred that he was that attached to her) I'm sticking with my earlier guesses that he's actually doing that now and it has something to do with the gods (his name IS KAMIki + hikaru(light), right?)
Even Aqua's never said he'd give his life away FOR Ai's, did he? For her cause, and revenge, maybe, but Ai's already someone who's passed. I think the songs are really onto something. They sound too.. strong.. And a bit murky for it to be entirely from Aqua's perspective. It's going in even further than what's normally considered healthy, aren't they? It's about someone who's hopelessly lost and seeking for love. That's how Ai thought Kamiki was like too, she thought he was lost and needs saving.
Fatal's lyrics are too close to this guy's mental state, I just can't unsee it, seeing that new chapter having the same kind of stuff the lyrics are saying!! Makes me go this has to be it!! I think this should be it!! He's ACTUALLY thought about giving his own life for Ai at some point confirmed!! So shouldn't there be some things that leads up to/stems out from it?
I might embarrass myself later with these theories I'm throwing out later but I gotta say.. Try listening to Fatal and Mephisto picturing it's kamiki that's singing it, it clicks.
#oshi no ko spoilers#oshi no ko#hikaru kamiki#hikaai#kamiai#the panel where he holds his hands against ai's on the screen was really sad#we don't see ghis face so there can be a backstab later but#he was genuinely shocked to hear she's loved him dearly!! and even wanted to have a life with him!!#I feel so sorry for ai and I HOPE I can feel the same way about him too.. although there are quite a few things I find suspicious#I think that part where he's said he's willing to sacrifice his life for Ai is not a lie. he didn't need to say it but he did#spoilers#I'm really curious how the next ch would be. I'm going to draw something (and probably be hopelessly wrong..but there is an idea I have)#it was interesting to see that it was Ai who wanted to have a family with him!! that's massive coming from her#that means she really really liked him so much... to have someone with a mental state like hers to feel like towards someone is so huge.#I could see how big of a deal and feeling that'd be so.. kamiki better be a character I can feel for too. I hope I can feel that way. I wis#oshi no theories

Sometimes I think that even if shanks was asked by buggy for help because of the cross guild he would probably do nothing that useful since mihawk is his other close bond and he wouldn’t want to go against him and I get for some reason kinda sad
Agree to disagree, anon, because this is saying that hypothetically Buggy would ask Shanks for help because of the Cross Guild. A thing that could never happen in a million years and Buggy would rather die than ask Shanks anything. But let's say that Buggy (reluctantly) asks Shanks for help.
There are a lot of outcomes here, tbh, since it's hard for me to picture this situation but-- If Buggy is seriously in a big problem with Cross Guild I think Shanks wouldn't hesitate to help him? He won't kill Mihawk, obviously, but I don't see why Shanks wouldn't fight him if talking doesn't work. They get along but they're still pirates and if Buggy is in actual deadly danger he's going to help him out. I love Shanks and Mihawk too but, like, story-wise and canonically Shanks' bond with Buggy is a lot more crucial and important (as I see it) and I don't see why his bond with Mihawk would affect his decision here, tbh.
It's either that or he sends Beck and goes "haha Buggy how could you say you're in danger??? I trust you can get out of this one alone 🙏🏻 And also I don't wanna go, so here's my first mate to keep an eye on you. Don't stab him, please". And Beck wants to die a little bit because why the hell does he have to do this-
But if Shanks knew Buggy was in real deadly danger, he would help. Also, the fact that Buggy is asking him for help is enough sign of something going extremely wrong, so-
#shanks is realistic and knows the pirate world and is aware that he might have to fight friends tbh#he won't seek fight with mihawk quite obviously but if it's needed he would#okay but seriously the point isn't 'would shanks fight mihawk'. it's 'would cross guild fight shanks'#i read a fic once about shanks going to save buggy bc he has a vivre card and it's literally burning bc buggy is dying in their hands#and shanks goes directly to help him and tbh i really liked it#he gives buggy space outside of their past relationship the way he wanted but he won't let buggy die#i mean-- he has a friendship with mihawk but we barely know anything about it so idk if what they have going on would be enough to stop him#maybe i am just in denial and i really like shanks caring for buggy#although i don't like buggy asking for help tbh#one piece#buggy the clown#red haired shanks#shuggy#cross guild#dracule mihawk

Russ Ballard producing Daltrey's album
1975 Interview
Russ Ballard has something special. Call it professionalism, the sure touch, luck, talent, a mixture of the lot if you like, but everything he's involved in seems to turn out pretty good, even when it's something completely new to him, like record producing.
When he was fourteen, he wrote his first song and sold it to The Shadows after having had the sense to demo it after their style. Having mastered the guitar and scored quite a bit of acclaim for his playing, he turned to keyboards and now nobody hearing him play would think he hadn't been brought up on them. Argent reached the height of their success when he was with them, he gave Colin Blunstone a monster hit with I Don't Believe In Miracles and now Ride A Rock Horse is enjoying considerable favour. Its producer? Russ Ballard! The man, wearing his customary shades, exudes an air of quiet confidence. He can afford to. He's well respected as a musician and as a writer and he's now in a position many people could envy. After all, a singer of Daltrey's calibre doesn't call up just anybody and say "How about producing my album?"! What is really surprising is that Roger should ignore all the established record producers in favour of Russ, who has only ever produced one album before in his life and that was the solo one he made after leaving Argent.
How did his new role come about? "Well, I worked with Daltrey on his first album, played a little drums and piano on it, but I didn't produce that one, just put in some ideas. He must have liked them because when he was planning his second, he just asked me if I wanted to do it." Russ explained. In an issue of Beat dated April 1966, Daltrey himself described his voice in pretty disparaging terms. "I don't have a good voice, no-one needs to tell me that. I'm a screamer with a group and I'm happy. I'm not worried about my voice, though, it is developing and I can notice the change." He also added "I'd get a real kick if I could have a proper girl vocal group backing." It's taken nine years, but now he's achieved what he hoped for, a voice which no-one can deny is pretty exceptional, and backing singers led by Marsha Hunt, care of Russ Ballard! "I was involved with everything." said Russ. "Going through songs with him, deciding what musicians should be used, who would be good for this and who for that." For a reluctant producer, who admits that "I'm not really into production, even though it's a creative thing, I'd rather be an artist." Russ had some pretty definite ideas as to his treatment of the album. "I deliberately kept his voice well up because in so many recordings I've heard of Roger, he's been immersed in sound. He's got such a powerful and such a good voice which contains many aspects that people haven't heard before. What I set out to do on the album was to expose all those voices for the first time. I don't think it is a good thing for a producer to put his own standpoint on an album, the most important thing is to project the artist." Russ thinks that Daltrey's film work has given a lot more confidence and he also found getting to know him has radically changed the concept he had of The Who. "Many people would imagine Daltrey as an ego tripper, but he's not in the slightest. Before I got to know him well, I was under the impression that The Who were Pete Townshend's baby. But speaking to Roger, listening to his ideas, I think that a hell of a lot of his ideas must have always gone into The Who, a lot more than people think."
It was originally Roger's idea to record an album of his early influences. Then he changed rock horses in mid-stream. "By then we'd already recorded Walking The Dog and that Beachboys sounding song, so we were lumbered with them." The second idea was to project the different sides of Daltrey's voice in a collection of mixed rockers and ballads, including three songs of Russ's, Come And Get Your Love, Proud and Near To Surrender. "We didn't actually discuss the point but I felt he wanted to make a heavier album than the one we'd originally planned. Yet not totally heavy, but a record which would compliment the heavier stuff with lighter stuff. Right from the very first session when he sang the first song I could see his voice was so much better, I feel it's improved tremendously since the early Who days even though I think he had a good voice in 1964."
The next thing to decide on was the overall sound and the arrangements. Ex-Shadows drummer Tony Meehan was the man who worked on these. "I decided to make the sound quite sparse,-" explained Russ, "- rather than over-producing it. Some people just don't know where to stop. I decided that if a song called for piano and nothing else, that's what I was going to do." (Hence Phillip Goodhand Tait's beautiful slow rocker Oceans Away with the composer on piano.) "The most important thing in an arrangement is the song. If it's a good one you should be able to sing it with no backing at all and it should still sound great. If it's not, no matter how many extras you add it won't work." Russ reckons that having been in bands himself definitely helped him as a producer, enabling him to put himself in the artist's shoes. Yet he doesn't think he'd like to produce his own next album entirely alone. "When I was in Argent I found being produced by somebody else was very frustrating because I could tell people were veering away from the original ideas I'd had for my songs. That's why I decided to produce my first solo album, which turned out a bit of a mixture because I had a backlog of work to get out of my system. My next album will be slightly deeper, not so light-hearted. I hope to be co-producing it with Muff Winwood, whom I really admire because he's got such a good ear and can really make a musical point."
At the moment, Russ is doing very well with songs of his which are being covered by other artists. One called Heartbreak, has recently been recorded by Olivia Newton-John and yet another is currently being recorded in L.A. by Stevie Wonder's band. Russ has got a new band together consisting of the ex-drummer from Curly, Alan Wickett, bass player Tony Lester and guitarist Alan Skates- "He really does!" joked Russ. He's got three weeks booked in E.M.I. Studios to get the album done. As for his producing career, it looks like Ride A Rock Horse may be his swansong. What if Roger asks him to produce his third album? "Well… if I want to do what I want to do, that is, sing, play, write and record, I just won't have time to produce anybody." said Russ. There's nothing like getting out when you're on top!
#russ ballard#interview#roger daltrey#ride a rock horse#1975#i'm assuming this was an article from around the time the album was out but before russ's winning album so i put 1975#i typed it all out as it showed it in the article except there wasn't a date so like. it's probably 75#it said 'how ballard learned to ride a rock horse' an d i keep laughing about it#anyway. crying at russ's humor#why is his humor always so adorable and like#'alan skates.' -'HE REALLY DOES'#does he russ#does he skate#does alan skate#(also you have two alans??)#it's like when he thought it was so funny to put 'love cliff richard but please don't tease' in god gave rock and roll to you#'i thought it was quite funny-' you sure did russ you beautiful man#or when he was talking about naming his 84 album 'russ ballard' and then was like 'russ balLARD' and then laughed#just saying his own name twice in different ways#sdgsjdhgsj god he's cute#also 'nothing like getting out when you're on top!' and then cut to the future where he produced more songs and albums for people#ALSOOOO stevie wonder's band??#what song was that and did it actually happen? i haven't found anything on that one yet#but anyway the very first words 'russ ballard has something special' you're absolutely right about that one#i need to point out how much i love how supportive he is of people and trying to find the good in things like#trying to point out roger's voice in different ways#although other times russ has also said he felt he was left alone with this album too much#with roger being gone on holiday and filming while russ was trying to work on it#and i can imagine the pressure of still being new to producing and then producing for a big name i mean like. wow i could never

"the michael kandel translation of "the witcher" short story can't hurt you!!"
the michael kandel translation of "the witcher" short story:
#WE HERE IN K L O T H S T U R#the witcher books#[ Nobody liked that. ]#i like how the first two 'main' translations (like published for mass market circulation ones i mean)#were like 'no we can't call it a strzyga... no no...'#(maybe like: 'the english readers won't understand...')#and then when the game and book hit (i.e. both beginning with geralt fighting the striga)#everyone was like 'whoa that striga was really cool'#idk idk enough about it yet to say anything definitively#but my experience and all the other reviews and experiences i've read#from other anglophone readers with no prior exposure to polish or broader slavic myth or culture#has been just like: 'whoa i never knew about that... that's really unique and cool'#and on the flip side. originally witcher gained popularity in part because of the familiarity of the fairy tale#and so despite that witcher in general takes a lot of everything from across europe#if i may just summarize it really obtusely and without taking the precaution of nuance and all#although the first two translations were very much intended to feature polish writers and writing#in the way of the actual translation it feels like they tried to diminish its 'polishness' for the english reader#like for example in chosen by fate itself there are no diacritics (though idk maybe that was a lack of capability of the printing press)#it FEELS like that i'm not saying it was intentional but#for example when you don't say 'leshies' and instead say 'bugbears' that feels like diminishing it#but then later when the witcher's quote-unquote 'polishness' is allowed to come through clearer#then it actually is part of why english audiences were like whoa this is interesting i like it :)#you know real-life events are stories too. and i feel like this is a story with a good moral: 'be yourself'#this is also one of the prime subjects where i disagree with sapkowski lol#because re: 'death of the author' theory type stuff. authors cannot control how their works are interpreted by their audiences#works get interpreted on their own fortunately or unfortunately#so though i think it would be misled to engage with the witcher as if its ONLY good quality is its 'polishness'#i think that also it should be acknowledged how its unique take on culture made it appealing to both domestic and foreign audiences#i think where the problem lies is when we believe it can't be both polish and a blend of multiple cultures and traditions#because like yeah. author is an arthurian weeb

there are too many branches of Judaism we need to start synthesising things
#currently im converting reform#ideologically im probably masorti#however there are like 3 masorti synagogues here none within even 50 miles of me#and why bother converting qith a branch thay will see reform converts as jewish anyway??#oh yh and currently ive started going to an orthodox shul. Which i really enjoy#and although orthodox conversion is more practical jn some ways (ur definitely 100000000% jewish accoriding to everone) its not rly doable#id have to move i think which i vant do for another 5 years or so. And also theres certain things like niddah that don't sit with me#in a way i feel i could comvert orthodox. i mean it wouldnt apply. but itd feel dishonest.#jumblr

Something I've seen a couple people saying is that they want to make sure that Laudna understands that she's not the only one who has been through trauma. But like. Laudna is not the only one who needs to learn that lesson. Actually, it's not even that Laudna needs to learn that she's not the only one that's been through trauma at all, because they're all very aware of what they've all been through. This became an inevitable confrontation when Laudna decided to let Delilah back in, though, and after rewatching the scene, I actually think the only people who managed this situation correctly were Imogen* and Ashton.
Orym and Laudna are both more focused on their own pasts with the sword and not thinking about each other. Orym should have talked to the group and come to a decision with them about using the sword and Laudna should have talked to him about it instead of trying to steal it.
*my feelings about this are still up in the air don't read into this too much
#our faves aren't exempt from having to learn these lessons and orym has also not learned this lesson i'm sorry but it's true#ashton and chet are the only ones who have even tried to deal with their personal shit in a semi-productive way tbh#i could elaborate on the imogen handling this correctly but i'm not delving into interpreting that ship so i'm not going to lol#that's another post people wouldn't actually like and it's because i definitely don't mean this in the way you think i mean it#i'm not saying laudna was RIGHT#honestly i'm not getting my hopes up about how this going to be dealt with because i've done that before#and it hasn't panned out in a way that i enjoyed#so we'll see how this goes#also tbh orym walking in wielding that sword was a ballsy move to begin with#props to marisha for instigating tough rp over it#literally laudna going 'i was felled by this blade' and orym going 'so was i' LIKE SHE WASN'T PERMANENTLY DEAD THOUGH#for a long fucking time#and chet saying that orym's lost more like laudna didn't lose her entire family and her entire life lmao#if ANYONE in this group might be able to understand orym's loss it's HER#i know people are going to interpret this as me saying there's a right or wrong to this and i'm not saying that#people acting like one of them had more of a right to the sword than the other is bugging me though#although my vote would definitely be throw that thing in the lucidean ocean#(i mean really i'm like USE IT IT'S PROBABLY COOL) but like if i were IN the situation it would be to toss that thing so far away from me#cr spoilers

i think the diamond dogs should play improv games just bc it would amuse me, an ex theater kid, specifically
#ted and beard ofc are reading each others minds#trent is shockingly good at it but only when he forgets to be self conscious#also see: he does both best and worst with ted (best when he's not being self conscious#worst when somehow the prompt gets too touchy or 'romantic' bc Crush Crush Crush Brain Panic)#(please the image of ted in character hugging him or something and trent just. red. brain crashed. no longer improving just frozen. barely#manages to recover and even then it was not subtle. unclear if ted is a) genuinely oblivious b) teasing him and thinks trent knows that#c) something else(??) )#roy is too stiff most of the time but if he gets really into it he gets REALLY into it.#best way to get this result is to involve phoebe or another child#higgins did community theater at some point and is the one teaching them all the games. beard also seems to have done intense research#but higgins is the one with EXPERIENCE#not that i think beard and ted couldn't have done an improv duo in college or something but in this scenario they did not#nate surprisingly is pretty good at it once he gets into it like it takes him a second but#then he's like. really getting into it and he's very quick on his feet#new way to go mad with power (affectionate): the rush you get when you make the perfect snap back comedic line/acting choice#also while trent is so good paired with so many of them i think he and nate would be a hilarious duo. they're SO funny.#they complement each other well and are both quick & clever#esp if it's about a mutual interest (although one of them taking the lead on something else like nate and music while the other plays off t#em is also good) but like#please i just had the iamge of them basically doing a bit where they're like. those mean old gay muppets in the theater?#like trent and nate improv duoing as some bitchy reviewers just going back and forth and it's so FAST and SO funny#beard records it and posts it somewhere and it goes viral.#god don't even get me started on the idea of some sort of official richmond social media/the gang posting random clips on social media#bc the ideas i have are so funny.#also largely trent centric but what do you want from me okay i'm just a little slut.

If you're still doing character bingo and haven't gotten her yet: Laura Murdoch Collins <3
a few people requested her and i think it's because everyone knows that i'm batshit (ha) insane about this woman. what if bertha mason was a blonde femme fatale in the middle of collinsport's most toxic manslaughter polycule. i'm in love with her. laura collins wants to grill me to a crisp? medium or medium well my beautiful beloved terrible wife?
#i don't mean this in a I Defend Her kind of way but laura can do whatever she wants forever#(although — if i spoke at length about it. i do think there are elements to laura's story that are very sympathetic#aside from the whole witch child-murder thing she has going#and marrying her grandson. can't really support her on that one)#but — i really really Really get her with the 1956 plot#and taking the human rather than the supernatural perspective is soooo interesting.#if you consider that she was already pregnant; burke was probably going to go to prison and take the fall for roger;#roger is the objectively Better choice as far as both material wealth and prestige goes#of course she marries him. of course!#and she finds herself in an utterly loveless marriage founded on hate and betrayal — a husband who is indifferent at best and cruel at wors#and she likewise to him!#finding herself under such pressure that she turns to liquor; that she falls to female madness; institutionalized; exiled;#and the one connection she has in the world (her son) becomes warped beyond all recognition#through the supernatural; to become something unjust and unclean#as his very conception — an event warped through her and roger's betrayal of burke#on our watchthrough i've also been Extremely interested in the relationship between her and vicki#both in a simple 'i love r/v and it should be more jane eyre' kind of way;#but also in the way that... vicki is one of her only allies at the start? she's extremely on laura's side — as someone without a mother.#and she's also a reflection of her in the past — in the middle of roger and burke (not so literally)#relatively poor — hoping to find belonging through marriage — existing primarily through the repetition of her own name.#wanting david as their son desperately.#dying-suffering-french-stalkers#➤ answered. ┊ Collinsport 4099.#➤ meme responses. ┊ boo !

WAIT Elle has box braids in s3??? I could cry
I don't think she had bad hair in s1 or s2, but I'm excited that they're actually giving the Black girls Black hairstyles instead of having them wear it out.
Before, it felt like the (all-white, for context) hair department was just ignorant about Black hair, so they put wigs on the Black actresses and only did styles that also work on nonblack hair for their own sake/convenience. This theory was especially supported by the fact that Tara, whose 4c hair couldn't really be styled the same as nonblack hair, wore a twistout that would take literal hours to do every day, but she had box braids in s2! and Elle has box braids now!! I'm so excited!!!
I also feel like this fits her bold, fashion-loving personality so much better than leaving her hair out. Our hair is basically its own accessory, and the long box braids are very feminine. Again, I'm not saying not having a protective style isn't feminine or fashionable (I myself am a fashion girlie with an Afro), but having one is another outlet for her creativity, and I'm glad they're recognizing that now.
#shimmer's thoughts#heartstopper#elle argent#i have heard that apparently black people aren't allowed to have braids in uk schools? which is legitimately fucking wild#although it kinda looks like this had a big turning point in 2022 according to a quick google? but i'm not 100% sure#it depends on how much influence the ehrc has over the government. which doesn't seem to be much#we do have hair dress codes with huge anti-black bias here but no braids usually isn't in there explicitly#or something that's enforced afaik#all that to say it might just be that this happens to be a summer season and that's why their hair is like that#although even then I don't think Tara would be doing a twistout every day#i think slicking takes way less time so she'd probably be doing that if they didn't like afros either#she might though. i don't know exactly why she would do that but she might decide to do that#also to clarify again i'm not saying not having a protective style as a black girl is bad or negative or anything#i'm saying in the context of the hair and makeup team being completely white#and alice oseman being a white person who originally only gave the comic characters wavy/barely curly hair#them not giving them protective(/realistic for Tara) styles was sus. and this is a welcome change#i mean. we haven't seen Tara's hair for this season yet. and they really love that twistout#so maybe i shouldn't get my hopes up yet. but i'll give them their flowers for this at least

Going back to this thing briefly
When adapting this chapter into an episode Toei did not explain nor demonstrate to us what the fuck that spike was (instead they gave us Sables #378545), so we're no closer to finding out what kinda new moves Crocodile might have up his sleeve, whether that really was a Haki-infused sand spike or what
But when I was checking the melting point of sand out of curiosity (to figure out if Crocodile has a fighting chance against Akainu, which in theory he does because Akainu isn't hot enough to melt sand (in theory)), I was reminded of the fact that sand is mostly made of silica
Or, in other words, quartz. Sand is, on average, made of crystal. Of course, sand is also made of other things and other minerals (not just quartz), but if we wanted to assume Croc's DF is made of one element and one element alone, then let's just assume it's 100% silica, right
And now I can't help but to wonder now though
Could Crocodile have learned a new technique where he somehow compresses and hardens his sand so much it can turn into large, solid crystals? Or more specifically, sharp pointy stabby weapons to murder people with? 'Cause. How fucking cool would that be
Also considdering how much Crocodile likes his bling, being able to form crystals to murder people with would arguably be on-brand for him
#Moon posting#OP Meta#Sir Crocodile#OP Spoilers#HashtagGiveCrocodileGaudyBlingAttacks2024#Don't get me wrong I do want him to have Haki too#I just. If he could infuse his elemental attacks with Haki that would be broken as fucking hell and too fucking OP let's be real#'Cause it would mean all the other Logia users should be able to do the same and that's. Oh man that would be broken as hell#But if Crocodile did just learn a new fancy trick that's unique to his Logia then that would be cool as hell and exclusively power HIM up#(Also it would be in-character since Crocodile's supposed to keep on improving his abilities and not stagnate etc etc)#Only counter argument is that if he was able to form crystals (or glass) by compressing his sand enough like. What would be the benefit#Because sure he'd be able to form solid objects that way but solid objects can be broken and shattered#Where as the sand is just. Sand.#Like if he attacked with a crystal blade you could stop the attack because it's a solid object and/or break the blade#But if it's sand then it's not a solid mass the same way. You can't stop it or break it the same way#Although crystals could be more reliable in a wet environment or like. If it was really windy???????? IDK#There's potential for something cool here that's for sure. Oda please I just want to see Crocodile murder some people!! Release the husband

Just wanted to tell you that whenever I get on Tumblr, I genuinely enjoy your posts and what you talk about. You're very honest and real, and it doesn't feel like you're posting to get likes or attention, it's just you. Sharing. And I really (not the word I'm trying to think of, but in a way it is) appreciate? Enjoy? you. : }
Aww, that's nice.
Take this random out of context screenshot from a movie I was watching the other day (2 weeks ago actually)
#it's true I don't really post to become famous or anything it's I do it because I want to#although some engagement wouldn't hurt. gives a little motivation in a sense. I mean I'm sharing things online people might as well see#else I could just. keep them to myself or something idk#anyway let's not dive too deep to that#I'm rambling now sorry#ask#not anon#not art#the movie is 'the talented mr Ripley'. pretty nice movie. won't spoil anything#btw good thing you enjoy my posts because there's a lot of them (I try to keep it interesting but how interesting can it really be)#I wonder what fandom you're here for. and how boring it must be for people who followed me for one thing to suddenly see me switch to#something else entirely... I can't help it. I don't choose the things my brain wants to be interested in#(I do contribute to it but then again I am my brain. in a way. so maybe I do choose them..)
