Dolly Valentine presents: Madonna at the Dark Spring
Dolly Valentine is a mercurial singer-songwriter from Cincinnati, OH, though currently based in Italy. Ever since the beginning of her journey, she aimed to express complicated emotions in a simple manner, seamlessly merging poetic lyrics with both timeless and modern sounds. Her most recent single, "Madonna at the Dark Spring," is a haunting, ethereal folk ballad with a melancholic yet almost otherworldly twist. The bones of the song were initially conceived by Valentine, who recorded an intimate performance in a historic villa in Lombardy, northern Italy. The track, which featured vocals and acoustic guitars, was later expanded with producer Andrea Caccese (Dead Rituals, Francis Moon), as the pair sought to retain the intimacy of the original performance, while adding more layers. Valentine’s oneiric vocal layers and stripped-down guitar arrangement remain the song’s centerpiece, while sparse percussion, subdued electric guitar ambiance, and other instruments drive the song’s dynamics and emotional intensity.

Tessa Lee - Dear Friend
“Dear Friend” is the latest song by Tessa Lee, an outstanding Australian singer-songwriter. It’s her second piece of work in 2024, serving as an adequate follow-up of “Big Slow Beating Heart,” another excellent composition released this year. Soundwise, she combines a singer-songwriter approach with many different but complementary music styles. Perhaps alt-folk comes to mind first, but you’ll…

Listen Up Sprawling experimental jazz, synth-heavy alt-pop, expressive alt-folk and more new music Princess Nokia: lo siento At first “lo siento” by Princess Nokia might not be what fans expect from the Harlem-based artist, but what begins as a soft, piano-led ballad soon incorporates a drum machine, metallic elements and more. The gentle, bilingual lament about the end of a toxic relationship will appear on Princess Nokia’s … https://coolhunting.com/listen_up/listen-up-499/

Not a day goes by where I do not think about the advent of medicine like PrEP and wonder just what the people - especially queer people - who passed from HIV/AIDs during the AIDs crisis would think
And then, I read this survivor's testimony and it just makes me emotional. I think this is the closest answer we have. HIV has changed, and we must always remember the people who didn't see that change before it happened.

The Wheel is back with a new single: Coyote Mask.
The song kicks off with a soft-spoken, soothing melody that offers strummed acoustic guitar and ethereal piano notes. The mid-tempo track is dreamy and immersive. The vocals are intimate and introspective, with a strong focus on using harmonies to highlight key phrases and bring more depth to the mix. The lap-steel guitar in the background adds to the overall ambiance, making the song feel nostalgic and timeless. The production quality of the song is noteworthy as well. It has an organic feel to it, which allows the natural dynamics of the vocals and instruments to stand out. Because of the spontaneity of the sound and the arrangement, The Wheel was able to  capture the essence of the song in a raw and unfiltered way. This approach to production makes the song feel authentic and genuine, making it a perfect addition to any indie-folk lover's playlist.
This release is highly recommended to fans of indie-folk artists such as Wilco and Bright Eyes, as well as Francis Moon and The Lumineers, only to mention a few. At times melodic and dreamy, at others lush and textural, this song is like a charming lullaby with a mesmerizing and spacious folk tone.
Find out more about The Wheel, and check out Coyote Mask, which is currently available on Spotify and elsewhere on the web.
