I'm sorry if someones already asked this, but are the Links companion characters in the incredibles AU? Like Midna and Navi?
I’m going to try to include most of them! Some I’ve decided roles for, but others I’m still debating.
Midna partially takes the role of Tony Rydinger— poor Twilight has a bit of a crush on her. More things happen with her later obviously, but that’s her main role.
Navi I... haven’t totally decided about. I’m thinking she maybe helped Time when he was younger, but was in an accident/mysteriously disappeared, or something like that.
Ezlo is a teacher of Four’s (he might have another role as well?) and the two of them get along very well.
Tatl (and Tael) are part of Majora’s whole thing that I’m working out, but Time knew/knows them. Sort of lost contact with them unfortunately.
Fi I’ve talked about before, but she shares the role of Edna Mode with Ghirahim. Before that, she occasionally watched over Sky when his parents were busy.
Linebeck drives the schoolbus Wind and a few of his brothers ride. For some reason he calls it the S.S. Linebeck... nobody wants to be the one to tell him that S.S. means sailing ship. And Ciela I have an idea for later on, along with the other fairies hehe.
The king of red lions I’ve honestly not thought about at all. I’m sure I can slip him in somewhere, but I just haven’t thought him out much XD
#thanks anon!#answers from the floor#anon#Incredibles au#also while answering this I was trying to find a list of companions so I’d be sure not to miss anyone#and found a tier list of them#oh my gosh it was so dumb#if you can’t go five seconds without insulting Navi then maybe you’re biased man idk#the one saving grace was that st zelda was third or fourth (which she absolutely deserves)

Read about the nerds and other nerds
“Klaus went missing on the 15th of March, Cobalt is murdered on the 23rd, 9 days later. Klaus was married to Greyson, Cobalt was a close friend, right? What if -just hear me out," Loki babbled on, as she and Amora sat on their bed talking about possible theories on Cobalt’s death, “Cobalt loved Greyson and wanted to be with him, but Klaus killed and went into hiding because he murdered someone?!”
“Cobalt?” Amora asked the ghostly man sitting in her desk chair.
“Couldn’t have happened, I’m straight,” He replied, “I was also happily married to my lovely Primrose before death.”
Amora shook her head before looking back at Loki, “Straight, and happily married.”
“So, no love affair and no girlbossing wife,” Loki sighed, crossing off the theories of a list in a little notebook, “The last thing I got on my list is Ms. Thornton, could she have done it?”
“No!” Cobalt exclaimed, “Just as I loved Primrose, I loved Lilybeth just as much if not more! She would not have killed me; I refuse that notion!”
Amora shook her once more, “He wouldn’t believe it if it were true,” she replied, “Besides he’s seen Lilybeth, and he doesn’t have a bad vibe… he just gets sad.”
“I’ve died and my daughter has become a beautiful young lady, I’m sorry my depression is an inconvenience,” Cobalt sassed.
“I think we should stop for right now,” Amora sighed, “This is just getting us nowhere.”
Loki huffed, “Maybe we are looking in the wrong place?” she questioned, getting a confused look from Amora and even Cobalt, “We are trying to link Klaus with Cobalt, yet we know nothing about Klaus, maybe if we start looking into Klaus when can find out why he is missing which could lead to us finding out why Cobalt died.”
“So, we have to find Klaus,” Amora asked.
“Basically,” Loki answered making Amora groan into her pillow, “Or at least try to.”
“How are we supposed to do that?! We are students, moreover, we are seniors?! How the hell are we supposed to find an old man who has been missing for 15 years when we’ll have midterms in like 3 weeks!” Amora exclaimed sitting up before gesturing to Cobalt, “I’d rather be stuck with him! At least he’ll tell me if I’m failing my Trigonometry final!”
Cobalt shook his head before scoffing as Loki held in her laughter, clearing her throat, “Maybe you just need a little break for the ghost investigations,” the British girl posed, “Come with me into town tomorrow.”
“I thought you were going out with Lance,” Amora muttered.
Loki shrugged, “he said he wanted to hang out with Odis, and Luther said he was going to study with Iphigenie for their current events test, so I’m on my own tomorrow unless you come.”
Amora thought for a moment, spending 2 weeks on campus with Cobalt over her shoulder with no results in their little investigation seemed to put both of them on edge with each other. The thought was nice, being able to explore the town on Solostica would be nice too. The American girl looked to her ghostly companion who shrugged as if to say he didn’t care either way.
“I mean either way I’m going,” Loki remarked, holding a large strand of her hair, the green dye faded a good amount making it a sickly pale color, “I’m getting this hair dye!”
“I’ll go with you.”
Loki smiled, “Terrific!”
The next morning the two girls woke up after sleeping in, Cobalt did what he had been doing every morning, exiting the room to give them privacy, before they left. While walking down the paths leading to the exit of campus, Calliope passed by seeming running for her life.
“Calliope, everything okay?”
“Yeah,” She huffed, her cheerleading bag slamming into her side as she looked back at the two girls, “If anyone asked you didn’t see me!”
Loki and Amora looked at her confused as she ran to the main campus, she was already for cheerleading practice and yet she was running away from where they normally practice, the roommates looked at each other and shrugged before leaving campus, as Calliope ran through the halls of the large schoolhouse, slowing her pace as she reached the great music room were Odysseus, Lance, and Solomon resided inside. Solomon played the harp in the corner as Odysseus sat on one of the choir risers beside Lance, his light blue Guitar in his lap.
“Calliope, everything okay?” Lance asked, her panting at the door to the music room catching his attention.
Solomon stopped playing as all three of the boys waited for a response.
“I was the first one at practice today!” she huffed, “No one else was there. So, ha…. Huh… ha I left.”
“Calliope, if you want to quit the cheer team—” Solomon began because Calliope let out a laugh.
“And piss off Cassiopeia, not a chance!” Calliope replied, “I do that just by existing.”
“And skipping practice,” Odysseus commented, “Either way she is going to be pissed off at you.”
“The only reason she started the cheer team was to watch Roux practice football,” She huffed, “I don’t know why I had to be involved.”
She toddled over to Solomon’s place in the corner, dejectedly, “If it bothers you this bad, just quit,” Solomon remarked.
“If you quit, you can actually but in the campaign again!” Lance added with a smile, “I’ve missed Ruelle the cleric ever since the last time you played with us.”
Calliope smiled, “That’s a great idea.”
In the town center of Solostica’s city center with its cobblestone streets and its many small and hidden shops and convenience stores Loki and Amora stared at the many boxes, containers, tubes, jars, and pouches of hair on the shelf in front of them. All are color-coded and pleasing to the eye. Many brands Amora had never heard of before.
“I wish I had hair like yours,” Loki sighed.
“Mhm?” Amora hummed.
The British girl pointed to her roots, growing in a dark color of her roots where her green pieces used to be after tossing a boxed bleach in her little basket, “I need to get a bleach kit so the green will take on roots. If you dyed your hair any kind of fun colors, you wouldn’t have to worry about it.”
“Oh,” Amora replied, chuckling, “Bellamy dyed her once, it was purple. I remember asking my mom if I could dye my hair with her because she said it looked “so bad” and I remember it started a huge argument with my mom… she did not want me to dye my hair.”
Loki hummed, before pointing to all the boxes of hair dye, “Wanna give it a try?” she asked with a smirk painted across her lips, “’cause mummy isn’t here.”
Amora looked at all the hair dyes on the shelf, then back at Loki, who grinned down at her, “Alright! Let’s do it!” she replied, grabbing a random box off the shelf.
“Alright, but we don’t want to use that,” Loki replied, taking the box out of Amora’s hands and putting it back on the shelf, “If you want red, you should go with this one.”
Loki pulled a small box off the shelf with a simple pale green color and labeled named Deathly dyes, the color was called Lover’s Haze. Amora nodded as Loki looked at the green section before quickly grabbing a jar from the same brand but in a dark green color and walking toward the check-out counter.
They left the little convenience store before venturing around the town center some more, going into different little stores and shops not really buying anything but enjoying being off campus as well as each other's company.
Stopping by Vixen Café to grab a little something to eat, while also getting to see Iphigenie in action at work and Luther sitting outside working on a paper for one of his classes, aided by caffeine and chocolate croissant.
While stopped at an intersection, Amora stared at the beach which Loki noticed.
“You wanna go to the beach?” Loki asked.
Amora nodded and once the intersection was clear to cross, the two of them headed to the beach. Shoes were taken off and bags were dropped by the cement walk leading to the sands. Clean beige sand between their toes, with the smell of sea salt in the air and a light breeze.
Loki watched Amora from afar as she enjoyed the breeze and the salty air against her face. There is something so scenic about Amora, wearing a genuine smile as she heard the sounds of the ocean and waves crashing into the shore, enjoying the breeze as it moves her cardigan. Loki had never been fond of the beach, life events had turned memories of going to the beaches in England into reminiscences said rather not think about, however now staring at Amora the beach is no longer a place Loki wants to stay away from, rather a place she wants to stay if nothing above to keep seeing Amora smile a genuine smile.
But the skies won’t let wants become reality
“Amora we should get going!” Loki called, “It’s going to rain!”
Once at the back on campus, it was already drizzling, and when in the safety of their dorm room, pulling one of the girl's desk chairs into the bathroom, and sitting it in front of the sink and mirror.
“Is he around?” Loki asked, pulling out all the hair dye and other tools on the bathroom counter after bleaching the front pieces of her hair.
“No, he's probably still mad from yesterday,” Amora answered as she put on an old shirt the British girl gave her before hearing her scoff, “Or he’s just wandering.”
“Come sit,” Loki called as Amora made her way to the bathroom.
Amora entered the bathroom where Loki had some of her favorite music playing at a low volume, in an extremely old shirt covered in blotches of bleach and a pair of gym shorts, waiting for the young American girl a hand resting on the desk chair beside her and a foot resting against her calf.
“You wanna do the whole head or just a section?” Loki asked as Amora sat down.
“Uhm….I don’t know, what do you think?” Amora replied.
Loki hummed softly, “Let’s do your bangs, and your little front pieces, yeah?”
Amora nodded, as Loki opened the Lover’s Haze box and quickly read the instructions before plopping the dye into a mixing bowl, “Ready?” Loki asked.
“Yeah!”
Loki took the hair dye brush and began painting the pinkish dye on to Amora golden strains of hair, “Is Cobalt annoying at all?” the British teen asked.
“I mean sometimes, he makes math harder than it should be,” Amora answered, “Honestly he acts like my dad. Not like my dad, but he acts like a dad, which I know he is one, but we’ve only known each other for like a month he’s very fatherly, protective almost.”
Loki hummed curiously, “Like when I was in the library trying to figure out how to help him the talk I told you about everything, the Librarian—”
“Iphigiene’s weird ass mom?”
“Yes! He knocked over a stack of books to help me escape just to yell at me when I was safe!”
Loki chuckled, “And he’s an ass!” Amora groaned, “Telling me my math isn’t right when I do my homework but he won’t tell me what I’m doing wrong! And and and he makes little comments when I’m talking to people like his commentary is soooo important!”
“Oh! What does he say about me?” Loki asked, walking around her to get the other side of her hair.
“Chickadee, do you know, Loki stares at you often?”
“Have you realized that you are the only person she actively smiles at?”
“Loki seems fond of you.”
“Aw, she gave you her jumper because you were cold.”
“You too are quite cute together.”
Amora’s face flushed, remembering just a few of the many things that Cobalt had commented over the past two weeks, the all-around consuming feeling of simply enjoying being around Loki. The overwhelming feeling of a crush!
“H-he just make comments about... how helpful you are,” Amora answered, fumbling with her words before jumping at her phone ringing.
A single windchime emoji on the caller ID for a video call, answering Bellamy’s call with a smile and rosy cheeks, “Hey girly, what does Edgar like to play he hates the puff balls Jane likes to play with. I--” Amora could only see Bellamy’s light blue roots once she answered the call, before she looked at her phone wide-eyed, “WOAH! WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME YOU WERE DYING YOUR HAIR?! And where did you get that shirt?”
Amora looked down at the shirt she was wearing to protect her skin from bright red hair dye, a faded black T, and the graph for the band Oasis horribly faded. “It’s Loki’s, we’re doing this kind of spontaneity.”
“ ‘Ello Bellamy,” Loki commented, grabbing Amora’s bangs.
“Shit, she’s British!” Bellamy squealed, “Eee, your girlfriend is such a cutie, Amora!”
“Girlfriend?” Loki mused, “What have you been telling her, lovely?”
“Bella! She isn’t my girlfriend, she is my roommate!” Amora shrieked her face turning the same color as her hair dye.
“Roommate, girlfriend same different,” Bellamy shrugged.
“I like her already,” Loki muttered with a smirk.
“Amora what does Edgar like to play with?”
“Uhm… He likes the crinkly toys.”
“Got it got it,” Bellamy replied while throwing a couple of toys in her cart, “Is ther anything else I need to get for the boy, besides his special wet food?”
“I don’t think so,” Amora replied, “How are things back home?”
“Reese got kicked out of school,” Bellamy answered nonchalantly.
“WHAT!”
“Yeah,” Bellamy shrugged, “Mortemore had been shit-talking him since everything happened, Reese decided to punch him out in the hallway, and he got his ass expelled.”
Loki clicked her tongue, “Serves him right,” she mumbled.
“I told Mortemore I would bake him a coffee cake,” Bellamy added, “As a thank you.”
“Oh, he’ll love that!” Amora replied with a small smile.
“All right, I only called to see what Edgar liked to play with,” Bellamy remarked, “I’ll text you later!”
“Bye Bellamy,” Amora replied, hanging up her phone.
Loki finally set the hairbrush in the sink, “You need to sit with it for 30 minutes.”
Amora nodded, getting up and leaving the bathroom, “What have you been telling Bellamy, for her to call me your girlfriend?” Loki chucked putting her head in the sink bowl.
Amora’s face became hotter, before covering her face, “I HAVEN’T TOLD HER ANYTHING!” She yelped, “I just told her that I had a grungecore roommate that was nicer then I thought, and I told her about hanging out with you during school!”
Loki hummed raising her head out of the sink, “You look cute when are all flustered,” she remarked with a smirk before putting her head back in the sink.
Amora blushed even more before going to sit on her bed and wait for the time to wash her the dye out of her hair as Loki dyed her hair green. Once everything was all said and done, Amora stared at herself in the mirror her bangs and the large chunks of hair that she kept resting off her shoulders a nice pinky-red color.
“You like it?” Loki asked.
“Yeah!” Amora said with a smile, “Thanks Loki.”
“Anytime, lovely.”
Once cozy in her bed in the early morning Amora left a heavy weight on top of her, groggily waking up to the intense stare of Cobalt an odd and wicked grin, “I have a lead!”

Is the lymond chronicles something I can get into if I know little of history and do not speak many romance languages?
Yes! I mean, it depends on your reading preferences and how you feel about being confused, but I certainly did!
That's my short answer! If you give them a try, I hope you find the series worth it, and I believe that what you like in a story will matter more than what you do or don't know going in.
My much longer answer, about my reading experience, is ....
In my case, I knew the names of monarchs and had a vague familiarity with the setting of the first book (Tudor/1540s Scotland and England). I speak a useful amount of French and a tiny bit of Spanish. Comparing experiences with friends, French was an especially helpful language to have, but I feel confident saying that I would have loved these books without it.
The thing about The Game of Kings (book 1) is that it’s just confusing. Dorothy Dunnett wastes no time in throwing political intrigue, multilingual references, and many characters at you. But even if you’re an expert in the history and in (modern and archaic) English, French, Latin, Spanish, Scots, and a little bit of Italian and German, you are faced with a protagonist who’s running back and forth across the border and interfering with that history … while guarding his goals and motives, explaining nothing about his past, and constantly quoting poetry from the personal library of a mind he doesn’t want to let anyone inside. Most of the people he meets don’t understand him, either.
For me, it was so rewarding when I finally started to learn what was happening and who he is, and after that the ride truly began…
I did not look up many references or translations and just kinda went with it. I was enjoying myself enough that I didn’t mind that so much was going over my head (especially if it was coming out of Lymond’s mouth), and within a few chapters I’d gotten invested in one of the characters (Christian!) and was entranced by a recurring joke/element. By the second section (let’s say … 175 pages in …), I was hooked, obsessed with a second character (Will!), interested in most of the rest, and having a great time.
There’s a character list in non-audio editions (the David Monteath audiobooks are very good, though), and companion books exist with translations/sources for many of the references. There are also various online recaps and chapter-by-chapter discussions. Looking things up yourself as you go along can reduce confusion, but be warned that many of the characters are versions of real people, so you may learn more than you want to know, such as when they die. 470-year-old spoilers, but still.
For me, the characters (complexity, parallels, relationships) and writing (playfulness, beauty, INCREDIBLE use of perspective and unreliable narration) are what make the books so good. They reward rereading, so, when/if you return, you’ll have another chance to go down some reference rabbit holes, and even if you don’t, you will understand much more.
The second book is generally agreed to be easier to understand! Also, there are elephants.
Perhaps more important than knowledge of history and languages is the reader's tolerance for …
angst. pain. agony. devastating reminders of prior angst and pain and agony
on the flipside, truly ridiculous antics, hijinks, and capers
many, many kinds of traumatic/potentially triggering content
bias/bigotry that shows up in characters’ perspectives and in general (not that newer media is free of this, but these books are from the 1960s and 70s, for context)
occasional elements that stretch the definition of historical fiction
revelations about your favorite authors’ influences (this was fun)
excessive reference to and description of Lymond’s beauty
half? a third? a large amount of the cast being in love with Lymond. This made for way more queer text than I knew to expect, which was great, but also … oh my god everyone is in love with him
the most bantering banter to ever banter, mostly, but certainly not entirely, courtesy of Lymond
Thanks for asking! If any of this raises more questions, ask again!
related: my lymond recs tag. There are mild and out-of-context spoilers, but these posts all sum up something about the series. :)
#lymond#lymond recs#questions#if anyone who sees this wants to chime in ... please do!#i love that so many people bring historical knowledge to the series/fandom#and/or end up diving into research because of it#i did not! history interests me but i really didn't know much about this era#so i eat that context right up#i also tend to have a very long wallowing-in-the-text phase when i find a new thing i love#so i'm still over here rereading multiple books at once because reading something else would mean reading something else!#eventually i'll probably branch out more than i have (a little bit of reading up on places/ people/ elements i want to draw)#much to learn as always#re: the language list ... there are probably more that i forgot#even in GoK#re: everyone being in love with Lymond ... that's probably not the most accurate way to put it but i was going for a tone...

Sinners and Saints (Sihtric x reader)
Summary: One day you stumble upon your childhood friend, Osferth, whom you have not seen in years. Yet the more time you spend with him, the more you find yourself drawn to his companion, Sihtric….and the butterflies his dark eyes give you.
This is my contribution to @emilyhufflepufftlk 100 followers challenge! Congratulations again! I’m so happy for you!
My prompt was - "Love doesn't discriminate, between the sinners and the saints." - Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton (in bold within the story)
Words: 5500
Warnings: A couple of swear words, fluff, my poor attempts at humor, Osferth being a good bro.
Tag List: @deans-ch-ch-cherrypie @flowers-in-your-hayr
This gorgeous moodboard was made by @flowers-in-your-hayr. All credit goes to her!
"...so there she was, aye, and next thing I know, she flips 'er dress up and I see the most perfect set of…."
"I'm going to be sick." Osferth mumbled to himself, trying to block out Finan's retelling of his prior night. To the laughter of his companions, he started to push away from the outdoor table at the alehouse. He was no virgin anymore, Finan and Uhtred had seen to that, but he still felt squeamish when listening to their stories of recent conquests. His mother's voice whispered in the back of his mind, things she had told him before her passing, about respect and love. Plus, he could not help but think that this idea of conquests, of women's worth derived from what pleasure a man could take from their bodies, was what brought bastards into this world….like him.
"Alright, Finan, we get it. You saw the arse of a goat and couldn't help yourself." Uhtred teased, slinging an arm around Osferth so he could not escape them- most likely to find a church and pray for their souls.
"Oi, lord! Ya know that was one time!" Finan feigned mock-outrage, making Uhtred and Sihtric laugh.
Osferth put a hand over his eyes as if that would somehow block the image from his mind. Something he desperately did not want there.
"How much longer are we here, lord?" Sihtric asked, changing the subject, while twirling a dagger between his hands fluidly.
Although Osferth would never admit it aloud, and God forgive him, it was hard not to be jealous of how easily his companions handled their weapons like they had been born with weapons in hand. They continued to tell him it was practice. Recently though, he decided it was a gift that he clearly did not have.
"Until I feel satisfied with the training of Lord Godwin's fyrd and his defenses." Uhtred stated indifferently, as if it was something he had to repeat to himself often.
"Ya think King Alfred knew how much of a horse's arse Lord Godwin is?"
Uhtred glanced up, a tiny smirk on his lips. "Probably."
"But he knew you were the man for the job." Osferth commented. Not necessarily to defend his father but to hopefully bolster Uhtred's confidence. "The men respect you, even if their lord fails to acknowledge his own respect."
"The baby monk is right." Finan said. "What else needs to be done for the town?"
Uhtred and Finan began discussing ideas and strategies, Sihtric adding an occasional comment but mostly just listening.
Osferth found his attention wandering, since this was an area outside of his expertise. His gaze drifted to the town and its residents who moved about to complete their duties under the midday sun. Their group had only been in this large town for two days and already Osferth was keen to return to Coccham.
From amidst the crowd, a familiar face caught his attention. The world tilted off its axis as his entire body went rigid, all his focus zeroed in on her. His heart hammered in his chest and the air whooshed from his lungs painfully.
"Y/n?" He muttered to himself, disbelief and shock clearly painted in his tone and on his face.
"Baby monk, ya alright?"
Finan's words did even register, so consumed by the ghost before him. Rapidly, he slid off the bench, almost losing his footing when he went to stand, but pressed on, hurrying towards her.
"Y/n!" He called, an almost desperate tone in his yell.
When she did not turn around, he shouted louder. "Y/N!"
That time she paused, then slowly turned to find him standing still amongst those walking around him, a solid rock in a stream of people. He held his breath as he intently watched her expression, suddenly worried seeing him would not be as meaningful as he hoped. He could see her utter his name silently, eyes wide. Then in the next moment, she dropped the basket on her hip and ran towards him. He opened his arms just in time for her to collide with him, and with her embrace, a painful wave of nostalgia and guilt crashed over him with the strength of a tempest.
"It's really you." She finally whispered, peering at him in awe.
"Hi." He smiled, his own shock clouding his mind from forming coherent sentences.
Then to his surprise, she reared back and punched him in the arm.
"Ouch! What was that for?" He whined, rubbing the offended limb.
Throwing her hands in the air, they landed on her hips as her voice rose in anger. "For disappearing in the middle of the night without telling me!"
"I did tell you."
"That you were THINKING about leaving, not that you WERE leaving!" She reared back and punched him in the arm again, ignoring his pained cry as she continued to berate him. "I spent an entire day running around the monastery trying to find you only for Father Harold to finally pull me aside and tell me you left for Wincheaster."
And there was the heaping of guilt he knew he deserved. "I'm sorry….I just….I just knew if I didn't leave that night, then I never would."
Her face softened at his quiet admission, understanding passing in her eyes. "I know. I wasn't truly surprised…. Just wish you'd have told me before."
"I'm sorry."
She sighed, all anger and frustration disappearing, much to his relief. She was a force to be reckoned with when truly in her fury. "So, what are you doing here?"
"Ah, traveled here with the Lord Uhtred to assist Lord Godwin in his defenses….or something."
"Uhtred? That Uhtred?"
He smiled at her, catching the reverence in her tone. "That very one."
"How did you find him? How did you join him? Wait! Are you a warrior now? We have a lot to talk about and you better get started." There went the hands on her hips again, making his smile widen at the image. Even as a young girl, when her hands were on her hips, you knew she meant business.
"Would you like to meet him first?"
A shy look passed over her face that he was unused to seeing. "I'm…. I'm not presentable to meet a lord."
He scanned her, noting the dried mud on the hem of her dress and shoes, the small smear of what looked like flour on her left temple. What he noticed most was how the years had made her even more beautiful. She had always been a pretty girl but now, she truly looked like a beautiful woman. A fact he was unsure of how to feel about.
He chuckled lightly after a moment. "Well, you certainly smell better than Lord Uhtred so I think it's fine."
That caused her to tip her head back and laugh loudly, the desired effect of his comment. She gathered up her basket and walked next to Osferth, back to the table where his companions were. It was impossible to ignore their curious stares as they approached.
"Lord Uhtred, may I introduce y/n. Y/n, this is Lord Uhtred of Bebbanburg." Osferth said, standing next to her at the end of the table.
Uhtred nodded graciously, clearly wondering why this woman mattered and why Osferth was introducing her.
"Oh, it's an honor to meet you!" Y/n gushed, a bright smile on her face. "Uncle Leofric told us so much about you, but I never thought I'd ever meet you in person."
"Leofric?" That caught his lord's attention, his gaze narrowing and eyeing her with renewed interest. "How did you know that turd?"
"When he came to visit Osferth, he'd tell us stories."
"Ah….all exaggerated, of course." Uhtred said with a cocky smirk.
"Wait. I think we're missin' the most important thing here." Finan leaned forward, dark eyes bouncing between Osferth and her, as he pointed a finger at them, hand still wrapped around his cup. "Ya said 'Uncle Leofric'....are ya related to Osferth?"
Osferth answered quickly. "No, her family owned the farm next to the monastery, so we grew up together." Then he furrowed his brows as a thought hit him. He had been so amazed to see his childhood best friend (only friend really) that he had not realized that she should be back at the farm and not in this town. "Wait, y/n, why are you here and not at the farm?"
Her face crumpled for a brief second before she was able to mask it into a neutral expression. She shrugged casually, but he could read the subtle tension in the action. "We lost the farm, so mother and I came here to look for work."
"Ah." There were so many things he wanted to ask but could tell now was not the right time. If she lived here, he would have plenty of time to hear the full story later. Instead he decided to change the subject. "So, you know Lord Uhtred, the others are Finan and Sihtric…. And Sihtric is also a bastard." He added as an afterthought.
That made her face light up as she turned to look at the Dane. "Hey, another bastard! We really need to start a club. We can all rant about how awful our fathers are."
"You're a bastard?" Uhtred asked, shock evident in his voice.
"Yes, my lord. My mother was a servant for a lord. Got pregnant. The lord's wife did not like that so sent my pregnant mother back to her family. Certainly, it was our Lord's Will because how else would I have been able to grow up with Osferth?" She asked, patting him on the cheek affectionately. He blushed and swatted her hand away, much to the other's amusement.
"I reckon you have quite a few amusin' stories of growin' up with Osferth, eh?" Finan smirked.
"I might….but I don't share secrets for free." She matched his smirk with her own crooked smile.
He slapped his hand on the table. "I'll owe ya a drink! I need to 'ear this."
"No….oh no, no, no." Osferth said but knew it was a lost cause before he even tried to deter them. The rest were already deciding when and where to meet that night. "Lord help me."
"It's not that bad." She teased, bumping his arm with hers. "The worst one is when we went streaking naked through the monastery."
Osferth felt his face heat up like the flames of hell itself as everyone laughed. "It was your idea."
"Yeah, yeah, so you like to remind me." She smiled fondly. "Now, if I don't get back home, my mother is going to think I've run off with some man or I've been kidnapped. Either way, she will raise the fyrd herself to find me. I will see you all tonight."
The others said their goodbyes but before she could step too far away, Osferth gently touched her arm, halting her movement.
"Y/n….I'm….I'm glad our paths have crossed once again."
She pulled him into a tight embrace. "I am too, Osferth. I've missed you." With that, she turned and walked away with her basket still on her hip; but not without glancing over her shoulder at the group before disappearing around some buildings.
Once out of sight, Osferth sighed and turned back to his companions, only to see them all still staring intently in the direction she disappeared.
"No….y/n is off-limits to you fornicators." He stated firmly, well as firmly as he could be.
"She's very pretty…." Uhtred declared, a playful grin on his face.
"Lord, no. All of you, keep your hands off of her."
"Or what?" Finan chuckled, eyes alight with mischief. "You'll fight us, baby monk?"
"I will if I must."
"Alright. Her dignity won't be tarnished." Uhtred lifted his cup in Osferth's direction. "Your reputation might be tonight depending on what stories she shares."
Osferth groaned, sitting back down next to his lord. "I'm going to need a lot of ale."
"That can certainly be arranged!" Finan laughed, jovial once more.
As discussion started back up again, they all missed the silent, longing glance Sihtric snuck one last time in the direction she walked away….
*****
Over the next several weeks Lord Uhtred helped increase the defenses of the town and instructed the guards and fyrd how to better defend against the Danes.
During those weeks, you found yourself frequently spending time with Osferth and his companions. First it started off with meeting them in the evenings for ale, laughter and good company. Within days, it became almost expected for one of them to purposefully seek you out. Most of the time it was Osferth and Sihtric coming to join you in whatever your tasks for the day because they were bored or unwanted in meetings. It was not difficult to tell that although they were certainly welcomed members of Uhtred's group, not everyone else saw them in such a positive light.
So the three of you often passed the hours away together, waiting until evening to rejoin Uhtred and Finan at the alehouse. Their presence became such a regular occurrence that your mother practically adopted them, they even had their assigned seats at your small kitchen table for meals. Somehow, they seamlessly slipped into your daily life in a way that seemed like they were meant to be there this whole time.
Even at the alehouse in the evenings, you usually found yourself nestled between Osferth and Sihtric on the bench. A place you certainly found yourself enjoying more and more….especially next to the Dane.
Over the weeks, there was something growing between you and the Dane. It gradually revealed itself with each passing day, growing like the roots of an oak tree. It was through the borderline flirtatious comments that you teased each other with. It was in the subtle touches that caused butterflies in your stomach to dance, from your fingers barely gracing each other when passing something, to the way you leaned your head on his shoulder when your eyelids threatened to close, to the way your thighs would touch under the table and away from view of the others. It was in the lingering looks when your gazes locked and you swore you never wanted to look away. It was in the consistency of being next to one another whenever you could, either sitting at a table or just walking down the street, almost like your bodies were magnetized to one another's.
Plus the more you talked to Sihtric, the more you desired to know about him. For he was like no other man you had ever met.
Almost a fortnight after you reunited with Osferth, there was one particular evening after staying out far too late with the four men and drinking a bit too much, Sihtric graciously offered to walk you back home. You knew propriety demanded Osferth should be the one to escort you but he was already passed out, head on the table and snores emitting from his mouth. Giggling at your childhood friend, you accepted Sihtric's offer and the two of you easily fell into step.
On the walk you learned more about his past, about going up in Dunholm and his cruel father. You had heard bits and pieces while with Osferth and the others. Maybe it was under the cover of darkness, maybe it was the extra ale flowing through both of your blood, but he confessed secrets to you he had never told another besides his mother. When you reached your home, before he could slip away, you clutched his arm and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. After, you bid him goodnight and slipped inside your humble home.
After that night, he always walked you home, sometimes alone and sometimes one of the others would join. But when it was just you two, when you were alone, you would bid him a goodnight with a kiss on the cheek or he would kiss your hand, locking eyes with you in a way that made a fire stir in your belly and your core clench.
There was definitely something between the two of you, but neither seemed able to verbalize it or take the next step.
*****
"So, what is going on between you and Cedric?"
You turned your head to look at Osferth, who laid on the grass next to you, soaking in the heat of the early afternoon sun. "What?"
"You know….that blacksmith. The one you were talking to the other day."
"Oh." The memory hit you. You had stopped by to drop off your mother's damaged cooking pot for Cedric to attempt in fixing, although you personally thought it was a helpless cause. The dent in it was significant, but he offered to see what he could do. As you dropped it off at his workshop, the two of you began discussing an approaching saint's day and the celebration that would occur with it.
Several minutes later, you heard your name called and looked over to see Osferth and Sihtric walking towards you. You bid Cedric a farewell, promising to stop by the next day to come pick up the pot. After receiving his promise to try his best at fixing it, you headed off towards the stables with your fellow bastards. At the time, you had not thought the encounter significant but with it happening two days ago and Osferth now bringing it up, you wondered how long he had been ruminating on it.
Finally, you simply said, "he's a good man, and has been kind to my mother and I since we arrived here."
"Is he….pursuing you?" Osferth turned his head to scrutinize you, his lips pursed slightly as if concerned about your answer.
You openly laughed at the notion. "No, that's silly. He is just a kind man."
If anything, you had to fend off flirtatious advancements from some of the young men that worked under Cedric. Those same young men quickly learned to keep their eyes on their work and mouths shut. When one openly called out to you, and before you could offer a sharp retort, Cedric threw a hammer at him from across the shop. He bellowed that he did not allow heathens to work for him and if they chose to act godless then they needed to find a new place of work. Their blatant interest diminished after that and Cedric made a point to be the only one that conversed with you if you came to the shop. Although he was easily ten years your senior, you found him a likeable man with a quick wit and sarcastic comments that occasionally left you in stitches.
The idea of him pursuing you was an amusing idea. He was still a bachelor, never having married, claiming that his work and apprentices kept him far too busy for much else.
Your answer appeared to satisfy Osferth. A thoughtful look crossed his face and he opened his mouth as if to speak, but immediately slowly closed it and turned his head back to stare at the blue sky.
A stillness settled after your answer, only interrupted by the frequent bird song and the wind through the tall grass. You closed your eyes, enjoying the sun's warmth and just lying around relaxing on the hill outside of the town, away from the hustle and bustle and chores that demanded your attention.
"He was watching you like a man who wants a woman." Sihtric stated after a couple minutes of peaceful silence.
Startled by his sour tone, you shifted up to look over at the Dane. He sat on the other side of Osferth, one leg propped up and an arm casually slung over it, but his gaze was focused straight ahead, staring off into the distance. Now that you thought about it, over the past two days Sihtric had become more reserved and sullen than you had ever seen. Even his companions commented on it a few times to which he would shrug his shoulders or make an excuse and walk away. You had thought he just missed Coccham, the group having been away for so long, or something happened that made him introspective. It had also not escaped your notice how the prior closeness between you two had halted. Now you wondered if there was something more to his demeanor.
"Well, that is most unfortunate for him since I am not interested in him."
"Does your mother not want you to marry?" Osferth asked, his voice deceptively neutral.
Sighing, you leaned back on your hands. Eventually you knew Osferth would bring up the topic, he was your friend after all and you were certainly of marriageable age. Actually far too old to not be married by some people's standards, but you ignored them. "She does but she has told me that she will not force it upon me. She said I should make my own choice….that if I am able, I should choose love."
You knew your mother offered you that choice in hopes your life would turn out differently than her own.
"But if Cedric is a good, kind man….could you not love him….or someone like him?" Osferth pressed.
"Perhaps. There are plenty of men I have seen who the church would call a 'good' man but are cruel in their own home, and there are many men who are calloused but it's obvious they love their wife and children. My love doesn't discriminate, between the sinners and the saints. I would rather choose a man whom I know loves and cares for me than a man I know is 'good' but carries no love in his heart." You paused, the candid confession rolling off your tongue before you realized it. Sighing, you ran a hand over your hair before quietly saying. "I just….I just want someone that loves me….sinner or saint."
Not a word was spoken as all three contemplated your statement, the silence hanging heavy like a brewing storm. Tilting your face to the sky, unable to meet the gazes of your companions, you chastised yourself for the candor with which you spoke. Osferth had asked a simple question initially and you chose to make it complicated. They did not need to know how you longed for love, how the hope for it in your potential future was what kept you going. It was foolish and you supposed after this, they would only see you as a silly girl with outlandish dreams of a storybook romance.
Finally, Osferth broke the silence. "Well, I shall be praying fervently for this man….hopefully he knows what he is getting into before he marries you."
You laughed, appreciating his lighthearted comment. Reaching a hand out to smack Osferth's arm, you teased. "Keep that up and you won't be invited to my wedding."
"Your mother will let me in."
"Yeah, you're probably right." You glanced over in the direction of the town, regretting that your time away had to end. "I need to head back, those chores won't finish themselves."
The three of you headed back to the town, quiet contemplation cloaking your group. Yet you feared that whatever spark lay between you and the Dane had been extinguished forever by your unexpected honesty. For still he refused to look your way, keeping his gaze focused forward. If your heart fissured within your chest, you swallowed down the pain. It was better for the spark to die out now then burn brightly only to be smothered later.
Or at least that was what you told yourself.
*****
"What you said….about the sinners and the saints…."
You whirled around, heart leaping into your throat with a silent scream on your tongue. In the small herb garden behind your house, you had thought you were alone. After the awkward conversation on the hill earlier that day, you sought solace in your chores. Thankfully Osferth and Sihtric headed back to meet with their companions on their own accord, leaving you to trudge through your muddled thoughts with all the grace of a newborn foal.
Now you found the very person who your thoughts centered on, standing just a few paces from you….and your heart began to race for a very different reason.
When his voice trailed off, those dark eyes that set fire licking through your veins dropped to the ground, you quietly stood up from where you had knelt, wiping the dirt from your hands, although you moved no closer.
"Sihtric?" You tried to prompt him.
"Is it true?" His piercing gaze lifted to meet yours, stealing the very breath from your lungs. "Your love doesn't discriminate?"
"Yes." You breathed out.
He nodded silently before taking a step closer to you. "And what about….what about Danes?"
Your chest pulled tight at his words, yet a coy smile grew on your lips. The flutter in your belly made your gaze drop for a moment as you tried to stifle the excitement making butterflies dance. Although this was no declaration, it was the closest the two of you had talked about what lay between you. Taking a steadying breath, you prayed this moment would not pass by without confessing the truth that you had harbored in your heart for weeks now.
"Not even towards Danes." You shook your head, the smile still on your lips. "And…. There is one I'm becoming quite fond of lately."
"Yeah?" He took two steps closer, somehow moving cautiously but eating the ground with each determined step.
"But….do you think this Dane could be….fond of me?" You softly murmured, feeling as if your heart lay in the palms of your hands for all to see.
That last step separating you two disappeared almost before you finished asking your question. His hands ever so gently reached over to take yours, entwining your fingers together. The two of you stood so close, your chests almost touched with each breath you took. Your breathing seemed to cease under the intensity of his gaze and a shiver raced up your spine. Yet you had no desire to withdraw from him.
"He would be a fool not to." He whispered, the barest hint of a tremble in his voice. "I'd bet you are constantly on this Dane's mind. That he cannot go a day without seeing your face and hearing your laugh. You are the first thought that he wakes to and the reason he falls asleep with a smile. That you have become the north star that it seems the gods have been guiding him towards for his whole life."
As he spoke, everything faded to oblivion around you. The past and future vanished. Dane versus Saxon disappeared. The world narrowed down to this….this moment….this moment that you had dreamt of but never thought would come true.
The two of you continued to stand there, lost in one another's eyes with fingers intertwined. Your heart raced within your chest but a cooling breeze swept away the fears that plagued your mind. For staring at him, you knew he spoke no falsehoods. That he owned your heart just as much as you owned his. That very heart you could feel hammering away in his own chest. His eyes fervently held yours, a silent conversation, a confession, spoken only in looks but you both understood the language. His gaze dipped down to your lips, tracing them before slowly rising once again to your eyes. A curl of pleasure blossomed in your core as you witnessed the fire now in his eyes.
"If this Dane wanted to kiss me…. I wouldn't mind."
A deliciously, sinful smirk teased his mouth. "As my lady commands."
His head tilted, leaning towards yours. Unconsciously your eyelids fluttered closed. Then the briefest of touches made your knees weak and your mouth part open in a sigh. After a moment's hesitation, he continued to shower your jawline with kisses. Needing to touch him, your hands landed on his chest, feeling the tunic that covered his firm chest. Your hands moved upward to grasp the back of his neck, his pulse jumping for a second as your nails scraped his skin. His hands landed on the curve of your waist, bringing you even closer to him, erasing the unwanted space between your bodies.
As his lips began their ascent upward along the otherwise of your jaw, you moved. For the burning sparks in your body screamed if he did not kiss you, you would spontaneously combust. Shifting your face, you stole a kiss on his lips before he could place it on your skin. It was more of a gentle pressing of your mouths, but even then, you heard a sharp inhale from him. Before you could question him, his mouth returned to yours with soft, probing kisses that urged you to respond. Not that you would ever deny him. What started off as a gentle flame quickly became a roaring fire. Breathing became unnecessary, for how could air bring you life when your body craved Sihtric, when your lungs demanded to breathe him in instead. He led you in a drugging kiss that had you melting against him. Your lips drank from one another as if that alone could sustain you forevermore.
"THANK YA, GOD!!"
The passionate kiss abruptly ended as Sihtric and your gazes darted towards the side of your house. Only to be met with the sight of his three companions standing at the entrance in various states of smugness.
"Oh, for the love of Odin…." Sihtric mumbled.
You buried your face in Sihtric's chest, face heated in embarrassment but unable to stop the giggles that poured forth. So caught up in finally confessing your feelings and kissing the man who haunted your dreams, you forgot that anyone could walk by and see you. His arms tightened around you, keeping you within his protective, loving embrace….and you knew there was nowhere else you would rather be.
"Took the two of ya long enough." Finan continued, leaning against the side of your humble home with a shit-eating grin.
"Amen." Osferth had a small, teasing smile on his face. "Thought I would have to lock them in a room together before one of them finally confessed."
Apparently, you and Sihtric were not as subtle as you previously thought. Now it made sense why Osferth was questioning you about Cedric and your thoughts on love and marriage earlier. Your heart flooded with gratitude towards your childhood friend, for without him you doubted neither Sihtric or you would have spoken up. Peering over, you caught Osferth's eye and mouthed a quick 'thank you'. He nodded, a simple joy radiating from his face.
"Lord?" Sihtric called over with a blank expression. "Permission to continue?"
Uhtred chuckled. "I guess you've waited long enough. Go ahead."
Without waiting a moment longer, Sihtric tipped your face back up towards his and claimed your lips once more. You vaguely thought you heard laughter coming from the others but it all blurred away, like a faint sound while underwater. All you could see, all you could feel, all you could hear was Sihtric.
Just how you wanted it.
Suddenly you yanked your head back, your breathing labored and lips swollen. "My mother is helping at a nearby farm today. She won't be back until it's dark."
He hummed against your skin trailing small kisses along your jawline and down your neck as if unable to keep his hands and mouth off you now that the dam had been released.
"I'm not as pure as Osferth thinks me to be."
That statement made his actions stop. Carefully he raised his head to meet your gaze. "After dark?" He confirmed, voice rough in a way that sent a bolt of heat through you.
"Yes, she planned on having supper with them….so my home is currently empty….and I did just clean my blankets the other day…."
He swooped in to give you a feverish, greedy kiss that left no doubt where his mind had gone. When he finally pulled back, you were surprised your legs could still hold you upright. Your whole body felt like puddy in his arms and he had only kissed you, albeit you doubted you would ever forget the way his mouth worshiped yours.
"You are certain? You want this?" He softly asked, staring into your eyes once more. "You want me?"
It was the last question, the vulnerable undertone, the hint of insecurity in it that sealed your decision. Letting your actions be your answer, you grabbed his hand and started pulling him in the direction of the door to your home. It did not take more than a second for him to come beside you, wrapping his arm around your waist.
With his taste on your lips, the future did not matter right now. It did not matter that he was Dane and you were not. All you knew was Sihtric was neither a saint nor a sinner, but simply a man deserving of love. The river of your love was pointing you directly towards him, and you silently vowed to never let it run dry.

Fallout 3 companions react to the Lone Wanderer getting in contact with the Followers of the Apocalypse and asking to join them. (Possibly resulting in the creation of a Capital Wasteland chapter of the Followers?)
With the Enclave in full retreat and the Brotherhood of Steel officially installed at the Jefferson Memorial and Adams Air Force Base, the kid from Vault 101 seemed to be adrift. They wandered from Megaton to Underworld, Canterbury Commons to Rivet City, helping those they met along the way as they always had but growing more and more despondent with each passing day. "It's just me out here," they would mutter to themselves occasionally, after particularly tough run-ins with raiders or wasteland vermin. "What am I supposed to do?"
That question didn't have an easy answer, or so they thought. Then, like a lighthouse cutting through fog, a summons on Galaxy News Radio brought them to Three Dog, who parked the Lone Wanderer in an office chair and jammed a set of headphones over their ears. The kid talked for days, tuned to different frequencies, scribbled notes on every piece of paper within reach, and their missing smile gradually returned. When they finally stood up and gathered their thoughts together, a new dream came from their lips like a sermon: "There's a group on the West Coast that heard about me. They're called the Followers of the Apocalypse, and they help people. They like what I've done so far, and they want me to start a chapter here in the Capital Wasteland. I want to do this."
Butch DeLoria: Butch stared at them, flabbergasted. "You... haven't we... what more do you think you owe to these people?"
The kid he used to bully sighed. "What do I owe to anybody, Butch? This isn't about settling a debt. I think it's pretty clear now that I can make changes around here, big changes, and this is just another opportunity to do that."
"But why?" Butch pulled out a comb and ran it through his hair, visibly anxious. "So you purified the water, ran those Enclave upstarts out of town. Leave it there. Kill anyone who tries to jump you on the road, and stop worrying about everyone else."
"I..." The Lone Wanderer clenched their fist, unclenched it. "I can't. If I can make things better for everyone, I have to."
"Well that's not what Tunnel Snakes are about," Butch replied angrily. He seized his traveling pack, shook out his leather jacket and headed for the radio station's door. "You change your mind, you can find me at the Muddy Rudder."
The door slammed behind him. Three Dog, who'd been eavesdropping from the next room, poked his head in. "Is your friend coming back?"
"Ugh." The Lone Wanderer sank into their chair again. "Give it an hour or two. He'll come around. Probably when he runs into the super mutants in Georgetown."
Charon: Charon nodded. "As you wish."
The Lone Wanderer pressed a hand to their forehead in exasperation. "Okay, I tried to phrase that as openly as I could so I could get your thoughts, but I realize now that I should've just said... Charon, what do you actually think about this idea?"
The ghoul shrugged. "I don't."
"Come on Charon, there has to be something-"
"Fine." Charon rolled his eyes. "It's more of the same. More time on the road, more time building up and securing settlements, more time spent fending off attacks from those who want your stuff. I'd say you're also more likely to die, but you've defied my expectations before."
"And..." the Lone Wander pressed. "Are you okay with that?"
Charon, who was still unused to this kid's attempts to include him in decision-making, glared at them. "I am."
They studied each other silently. The Lone Wanderer broke first. They always did. "I'm not going to order you to do this with me."
"You don't have to," Charon reassured them. Half-facetious, half-sincere. "That's not how this works."
Clover: Clover examined her nails, clearly not that interested. "So what's the angle, lover?"
"Clover..." the Lone Wanderer hesitated. "What if it's not an angle? What if we just... did this?"
Clover stuck her tongue out playfully. "Whatever, honey. You probably have some scam cooked up already. Lure them out here, take their stuff, feed them to a deathclaw... you're such a tease."
"Uh-huh." Her companion crossed their arms. "A real scam. Like that time I used a GECK to purify the DC basin. Or that time I led a giant robot to fight the Enclave and eventually took over their crawler. Or that time I rescued a bunch of slaves from Paradise Falls. Clover, we've been on the road together a while. You know I'm not like that."
"I know, I know..." Clover trailed off and looked away. "S'just that I need a good story to tell when you take me back to Eulogy. Otherwise..."
The Lone Wanderer dropped their headset and took her hand. "You're not going back there. Ever. You hear me? You don't belong to that motherfucker anymore. You don't belong to anyone."
Clover still couldn't meet their gaze, but her eyes filled up with tears. "Mmm-hmm. Sure, lover."
Star Paladin Cross: The Star Paladin smiled. "I've encountered the Followers. They bring a noble cause to the wasteland, even if they stretch themselves too thin."
"Well, the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood is stretched too thin right now." The chapter's newest Knight sank back against the desk they'd been tethered to for the better part of the last 48 hours. "Scribe Bigsley is tearing his hair out about water caravans, the Enclave still has holdouts in the area, and Elder Lyons..."
They trailed off and sighed. "We need help. I don't know if I can be a Follower and a Knight, but I know they're more open to working with me because of Elder Lyons' decision to break with the High Elders. We have the same mission: To help the people of the wasteland."
"Our missions are similar, but there are a few fundamental differences," Cross corrected them. "The Followers emphasize the sharing of knowledge and learning, while the Brotherhood seeks to protect it. That said, your assessment of the Elder's decision for our chapter is apt. Perhaps we have opened ourselves up to common ground, in our desertion of our primary mission."
"Right." The Lone Wanderer nodded. "We're deserters. Let's use it. I'll start making plans and a list of potential recruits. I'll start with Reilly's Rangers and the Temple of the Union and get some leads."
Dogmeat: The mutt that accompanied the Lone Wanderer wherever they went barked, excited by his owner's excitement. The noise drew Three Dog's attention from the other room.
"Kid, I'm trying to run a radio station here," he said, leaning on the door frame with a mug of steaming tea in his hand. "Don't get your little buddy too riled up. Fight the good fight and all that, but do it outside."
"Sorry, Three Dog." The Lone Wanderer dropped to their knee and scratched the mutt's back and neck. "Just thinking out loud."
"You take their deal?" the DJ asked, before taking a sip from the mug.
The kid grinned. "You bet your ass I did."
Fawkes: The super mutant that had shadowed the kid since Vault 87 nodded sagely. "These Followers. Would there be room within their organization for an individual such as myself?"
The Lone Wanderer shrugged. "I didn't ask. The woman on the radio made a point of saying they were okay with ghouls, but she didn't say anything about mutants in general. I've heard that the mutants out west are more like you though, so probably?"
"Then I would like to be the first to sign up for your new chapter," Fawkes replied.
"Okay." The kid from Vault 101 grinned. "Great. Even if they aren't good with mutants, it's my chapter, and I say it's okay. It's not like they're going to be peering over my shoulder."
"And what do you intend to christen your first project?" Fawkes asked.
"Hmmm." The Lone Wanderer scratched their head. "Well, after recruitment and finding a base of operations, I think we should help stabilize the water caravan system. From there we can move on to tackling the slave trade."
Fawkes chuckled. "'From a small seed a mighty trunk may grow.' Then let us begin."
Jericho: The retired raider, who had been taking a nap in one of the office chairs, snapped awake with a snort and grabbed his assault rifle. "Who-whatsit?"
"Chop-chop." The Lone Wanderer tossed him his pack and punched him playfully on the shoulder. "We're going to shake up the Capital Wasteland hierarchy a bit."
"Well, that sounds like something worth getting up for," Jericho replied, somewhat more agreeable. "Where are we going?"
"Seward Square," they answered, throwing their own pack over their shoulder. "I know a crew over there that might be interested in helping."
"Reilly's gang?" Jericho stopped them. "Wait a minute. This isn't more of your usual goody two-shoes shit, is it? I told you, I was done after the business with the Enclave. Can't we just roll into a settlement and take their chems like the good old days?"
"Thought you were awake, Jericho." The Lone Wanderer smacked him on the cheek a couple of times. "You want to sit on top of the Capital Wasteland, you have to make yourself indispensable. Capisce?"
"Oh, fuck you," Jericho grumbled. "Should've kicked you off my steps back in Megaton, kid."
Sergeant RL-3: "Sir, yes sir!" the Mister Gutsy agreed. "Anything for our good old Uncle Sam!"
"Right then, soldier," the Lone Wanderer replied at the same level of enthusiasm. "Pack our gear and have this place spotless, on the double!"
"All recruits will be responsible for their own bunks!" Sergeant RL-3 shot back, before moving to retrieve the traveling packs from where they'd been stashed away.
Three Dog, who was watching from the door, shook his head with a grin. "I need to get me one of those models."
"Well, I know a guy out by Tenpenny Tower that might have a bot with your name on it," the Lone Wanderer offered. "Or at least the parts to build one."
"No time to dilly-dally, sir!" Sergeant RL-3 commented from across the room.

Korekiyo, Kaito and Gundham cuddling headcannons
Korekiyo Shinguji:
· You groaned hearing a knock at the door. You opted to stay in bed. Upon hearing that seemingly incessant knocking again you threw yourself off the bed and trudged to the door. “What is it?” You didn’t care that the sheer bitterness seeped into your tone, you just wanted this encounter to be over with. “Ah, I apologize Y/N, but you have not been answering your phone, nor had anyone seen you leave your dorm room. You have not even showed up to class or your lab, so I thought I’d check up on you.” “Kiyo! I’m sorry, I didn’t realize.” Now you so regretted using that spiteful tone. Though his lips were covered by that mask you could see a smile in his eyes. “It’s quite alright. You are in some trouble I presume?” You were silent for a moment before a sigh escape you. You seemed to deflate and just looked exhausted. You took a step back, allowing the man into your room.
· Kiyo never actively seeked out cuddles, but he was more than willing to accept them. Platonic, or romantic, didn’t matter, to him cuddles were cuddles and should someone want to do so with him, it was like an honor. For you and Kiyo it became a sort of routine that should the other be having a bad day, they would come to the other in their dorm room and cuddle on the bed.
· Kiyo did not have any positions he preferred, he simply followed your lead and did whatever you wanted. That day in particular you hugged him tight, his back pressed against you as you buried your face into it. He didn’t say a word, he simply reached a hand back, gently patting your head and with his other hand held one of yours. After a few minuets you began to slowly vent your ever-piling list of frustrations that seemed to somehow grow larger and larger even just staying in your room. How you wanted to avoid snapping at anyone or to avoid your day getting worse, but… that didn’t seem to pan out.
· On some other day as you were heading to the library, Kokichi ran passed you laughing like a mad man carrying something, moments later Korekiyo ran past you as well. After you finished your work, you shot Kiyo a quick text asking where he was. When the only response you got was ‘dorm room’. You knew you were nowhere fast or clever enough to catch Kokichi so the least you could do was comfort Kiyo after. You rested your head on his chest and Kiyo held you ever so tightly, muttering to himself about perhaps asking Miu to make a new security system again to try to keep Kokichi from stealing any more items.
· For Kiyo, cuddling with a friend or loved one was the ultimate stress relief. Holding close someone he cared for swept his worries away. He simply loved it and enjoyed knowing he could bring you and others the same comfort through that same action.
Kaito Momota:
· “Alright! It’s cuddling time!” You, Maki, and Shuichi all looked to the Luminary of the stars in confusion. “No.” Maki then stood up from the table you all had been doing your homework on as if she were going to leave. “Kaito, I… Why?” It appeared Shuichi wanted to say more but was taken so aback by the question he couldn’t bring himself to say more. “Yeah Kaito. I don’t get this either.” He smirked. Making his way around the table he stood between you and Shuichi, draping his arms over your shoulders, pulling the pair of you close as he looked to you two before his gaze landed on Maki. “Team building! Cuddling and physical contact in general are great ways of communication and increases bonds among friend and teammates like us! Cuddling also lowers blood pressure and is proven to relieve stress and pain. And it just feels good!”
· And that was how Kaito made sure he cuddled with the three of you at least once a week.
· He’d gleefully go to your dorm, and if you didn’t seem to be doing much or were over working yourself he’d tell you it was time for your weekly cuddle session before dragging you to the bed. If you declined, he would back off.
· Kaito always insisted he be the big spoon or that you rest against him, cradling your head in his lap or resting yourself against his chest, things like that. Even if you tried reversing roles Kaito would refuse saying he much preferred this positioning. However, on one particularly long, exhausting day you and Kaito flopped on his bed. You slowly stirred from your slumber, a warm feeling blooming in your chest seeing the stars and galaxy that was dimly projected onto the walls and ceiling. Hugging Kaito a little tighter you realized your positioning. You were the big spoon! You also noticed something else. Sitting up a little you saw how Kaito was grinning from ear to ear, he even nuzzled into you a little when you slightly shifted. His eyes fluttered open as he looked over his shoulder. Then he abruptly sat up. “Good, you’re awake! Feeling rested?” A soft, light shade of pink dusted his cheeks. You tried hiding it, but it was so difficult to hold back your devilish smile, and giddy laughter. So Kaito Momota did in fact like being the little spoon, loving it in fact.
· You and Shuichi were winded after a rigorous evening of training, nagging Kaito to finish his curl-ups as Maki simply watched having finished long ago. When he got us for the last curl, you wrapped your arms around him. “Cuddle time!” You dragged him forward, back to the ground, face first now. With a hand on the back of his head you rested his head against your chest. Shuichi and Maki tackled Kaito, hugging both he and you from the sides. “Yes! Good on you for taking the lead my sidekicks, but Y/N let’s switch-” “Nope!” No matter what he said none of you were letting Kaito go. Reluctantly he gave in, wanting to encourage this new tenacity in the three of you. He blushed and sighed accepting his fate. He liked this, he really did, but felt much too embarrassed to admit it much to his chagrin. What made this even better was the fact all four of you were under the cover of stars, watching as they slowly drifted by. It was simply lovely… Kaito decided the four of you should have cuddle sessions after training more often.
Gundham Tanaka:
· You and the Dark Lord of Ice had been best friend for years. It was a long and slow process befriending one another, but in the end you two now had a companion closer to you than any other. In your time together you learned so much about animals and other creatures of all sorts. You sat side by side on the couch in his apartment, you mindlessly scrolling through your phone as Gundham fed his Generals some treats. “Hmm… Hey, Gundham?” “You have my attention.” You scooched over to him and held out your phone. There was a picture of some otters hugging one another. You then scrolled more, finding other picture of cats, dogs, even swans and many more embracing each other. “Staged, or real?” “… Those are all true moments of affection.” You placed your phone into your pocket. Once you did one of the Devas hopped into your lap, demanding pats to which you happily gave. “… All creatures, unless solidary creatures, crave companionship and affection, even from other species, right?” “Certainly. But it’s not only that. Showing affection speaks of the same sentiment as sleeping near another. It shows you have the utmost trust in the other to allow yourself to be in such a vulnerable position around them.”
· “… Are you touched starved?” Gundham flinched, caught off guard by the question. “Because your skin is poison to the touch except by your companion creatures do you get enough affection?” It was only recently had Gundham started allowing some small touches on the skin. Sure you could touch his bandaged or clothed parts of him just fine before, but skin to skin contact is so vastly different, to Gundham at least. “I know you say you’re only temporarily mortal but, you’re still human now, and humans are highly social creatures. And one such way of communication is touch.” “… That is indeed true.” “Hey, place your feet on the couch.” You scooched back, giving him room. Though confused, he trusted you and did as told. You also placed your feet up, interlocking your legs. “Though clothed, this is bigger contact than accidently grazing hands.”
· Slowly but surely you and Gundham got more acclimated to bigger touches. It first started with things that weren’t really too claustrophobic, like laying on the ground with your backs pressed against one another or laying your head in one another’s lap.
· One day as Gundham exited the shower he realized the shirt he had set aside to wear had a stain on it that needed to be washed right away should he hope to save it. Only in a pair of shorts he made his way to his room to get something else. That was till he spotted you. You were laying on the ground, surrounded by a few pillows acting as a makeshift barrier, keeping the Generals penned, though if they truly wanted too they could have easily escaped. You simply played with them, luring them about with some treats you had made for them. In that moment… nostalgia hit him like an ocean wave against cliffs. He recalled how the two of you met. Funny to think back then he had no idea that chance meeting was going to change his life forever. You had been through hell and back with him, standing by one another’s side no matter what life threw you way. “Hmm? You want something Gundham?” He hadn’t realized it, but while lost in thought he had walked up to you… You truly were one of his greatest companions… His best friend. He kneeled down beside you and you assumed to greet and play with his Generals, so you didn’t think much of it. What did surprise you was how he so stiffly laid down, resting his head atop your chest. He even moved your arm out of the way as to not lay atop it, and hesitantly he draped it over himself. You were so shocked and in a state of disbelief you didn’t notice that slowly his eyes drooped closed as he fell asleep.
· It was rarer, but he’d go to you for cuddles when he was ready. But after each cuddle he’d come back for more sooner. At first it was months till he sought out cuddles, then eventually weeks, then soon he’d come to you every few days or so seeking out the affection. Neither of you ever spoke during these times. Gundham would simply lean his head against your chest or his back against your stomach. He’d never say it, but he felt being the little spoon was a more vulnerable position to be in and… even if he’d feel more comfortable in some other position, he wanted to be as vulnerable as he could to show you he trusted you. Action speaks louder than words, and he deeply, truly wanted you to understand that fact, not just hear him say it.

Fireside (Zuko x Reader)
Word Count: 1,775
Author’s Note: I am so deeply sorry this took so long to post. I don’t know what happened but after Thanksgiving the creative part of my brain completely shut down and all I could do was lay in bed and play video games. But it’s back now so 🎉🎉🎉 happy new year to all of us!
I got this request a WHILE ago and had written something else for it but after reconsidering, I totally hated it, so this is the rewrite for some cozy, wintery goodness. I also love this idea because I’m constantly cold - my feet and hands are always freezing and even in summer I’ll wear sweaters and hoodies because aircon can get pretty chilly when you have the body temp of your average vampire.
Now for a little update: in the new year, I’ll be focusing more on original works than fanfiction. I’m still going to finish Two Halves, and I’ll still write fanfiction (because it’s still super fun) but I have so many ideas for original works that are taking over my brain that it seems only fitting to shift that direction. If you’re on my subscriber list and would like to only receive alerts for fanfic, let me know and I’ll add you to a separate list.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful holiday, taking time to relax and spend time with loved ones, and generally just glad to have survived this shithole of a year. Here’s hoping that 2021 goes better - 2020 set the bar pretty low so it shouldn’t be too hard. 🥂
Snow was a rare occurrence in the Fire Nation. Summers typically scorched, followed by peaceful autumns and mild winters; a little rainfall was all one typically expected during the colder months in the Imperial City.
This year, however, was much different. The mountains that bordered the villages and towns throughout the island were white capped under gray skies; streets were slickened by thick layers of ice that settled between cobblestones and creased the panes of windows; bracing breezes swept through landscapes unaccustomed to such unforgiving weather, carrying flurries of snow that bit at cheeks and cloaked the world in a dull ivory veil. Winter came to the Fire Nation seeking a cruel, unwarranted vengeance.
You woke in the middle of the night to find the fire beside your bed had died, leaving your borrowed room in a state of bitter, slicing cold. It wasn't the first time the Firelord’s palace had left you uncomfortably chilled since your arrival for his New Year’s celebrations, as the building was never meant to withstand this type of climate - sweeping ceilings, open breezeways, and tall windows with thin shutters ensured that the cold had its way. Being from the Northern Earth Kingdom, used to sturdy wooden lodges with massive fire pits that could burn an entire tree trunk with one lighting, this strange change of the typical season made you ache for home.
Knowing there were no matches beside the hearth (given the sheer amount of fire benders that resided in the palace), you gathered up your courage and begrudgingly rolled from your mattress, taking the blankets with and wrapping them tightly around yourself. The walls around you creaked, shifting under the push of moaning winds, as you slipped into the hallway in search of your host.
You were thankful that Zuko decided to keep his personal wing of the palace confined to a space that was mostly enclosed; the only breezeways in this part of the sprawling estate surrounded its courtyards and gardens, and were blocked by sets of heavy wood doors that shielded the inner parts of the building from being overcome by the elements. As you walked, traipsing through the corridor under your mound of blankets like some sort of shadowy, death-bringing phantom, you passed one of the windows that overlooked the gardens, and found it frosted under heavy white tufts of snow; puffy, clumped flakes whirled down from the sky, falling haphazardly as they escaped the grip of the whipping wind. Even in the relative warmth of the palace, your body shivered thinking of how frigid the air outside must be.
Because of the abnormal cold, Zuko moved his mattress out of his bedroom and into his sitting room, where a large, decorative fireplace stood nestled into the far wall. You approached his sleeping form with gentle, quiet steps, being careful not to startle him; you lay a hand on his shoulder and he jolted awake, drawing a sharp breath in as he twisted to face you, blinking blearily to make out your features in the dark.
“What are you doing?” he muttered.
“I'm cold,” you whispered in response. “My fire went out.”
Zuko sighed, fixing you with an irked, exhausted expression.
“Seriously?” he groaned. “This is the third time this week.”
“It's not my fault nobody has any friggin matches in this place,” you quipped. “And besides, why bring a servant all the way up here when I have one of the world’s greatest fire benders down the hall?”
Zuko huffed, then rolled back over in an attempt to shove you off.
“There should be more blankets in your closet,” he grumbled.
“I'm wearing all of them,” you retorted.
You stood above him, waiting, but got no response. Shivering, and with an exasperated sigh, you pulled back the blankets around him, shuffling between them and nestling into his back; he snapped his head around once more, eyeing you suspiciously.
“... Isn’t this a little uncomfortable?” he wondered.
“Not really,” you replied. “We used to do this all the time when we were teenagers.”
“We haven't done this since we were teenagers.”
You hummed, recalling your time together during the war. Even on the hottest days, your body was cold, your fingers always reasonably corpselike to anyone who happened to touch them - Zuko was one of those unfortunate people, and the lack of circulation in your limbs came as quite a worry to him. Throughout the day, he would take one of your hands in his, heating his palm until your skin took on a more lively temperature. When he noticed how much you layered at night when the air became cooler, he started sleeping nearer to you, eventually curling up around you to keep you warm. After the war, when he got into the habit of visiting you around the winter holidays, you still found yourself seeking him for warmth, tucking your hands into the sleeves of his robes or curling his palm around your icy fingers, finding sanctuary in the way he heated his skin to appease you. While it was true you hadn't slept together since you were younger, you hadn't ever needed to - desperate times called for desperate measures.
“I should have remembered that you get so grumpy when you're tired,” you teased him, rubbing your feet against his; he hissed, but didn't pull away.
“You're freezing,” he commented. “I should have remembered you're dead on the inside.”
You giggled, sighing happily as the familiar heat of his skin warming like a furnace chased the chill from your toes. You slid your feet up along his ankles, causing him to shiver; his body tensed for a moment, then eased into your touch, quickly finding comfort in its familiarity.
“Aang used to assume we were a couple because of this,” Zuko mumbled. “He still does.”
“You're just a good friend,” you replied. You nuzzled your face into the broad, solid expanse of his back, breathing in his scent of scorched wood and sea salt. He felt like home. “Good friends don't let their friends freeze to death.”
Zuko chuckled, taking hold of your hands that lay on his waist and cupping them within his own; he held your knuckles up to his mouth and huffed warm, smokey air onto them, heating them until they no longer felt cold. He tucked them beneath the fabric of his tunic, keeping them tepid between the fabric of his undershirt.
“Uncle says the same thing,” he mused. “He says we treat each other like lovers, whether we realize it or not.”
“My neighbors have asked me what my husband does that takes him away for so long out of the year...” you commented, eliciting another breathy laugh from your companion. “But I think I'd know if you were in love with me.”
Zuko rolled over, turning to face you; his arm latched at your waist, his chest almost pressed to you and your noses grazing each other in the small space of his mattress. You blushed, the color blending with the soft, balmy glow of the low hearth behind him.
“What makes you think I'm not in love with you?” he wondered.
You paused, watching the flames flicker over the angular features of his face. Though he was silhouetted, and so close he seemed to envelop all of you, you could make out a tender gleam in his eye; could feel the flutter in his chest as he split it open, tentatively revealing his heart to you.
“... I'd like to think you would have mentioned it,” you answered after a moment, “but I know you better than that.”
Zuko grinned; you watched the curve of his cheek as it swelled with the action.
“I might have mentioned it,” he murmured, his voice lilting with a gentle mirth. “Just not to you.”
“Of course not,” you teased. You mirrored his smile, easing into him as his foot began to stroke against your ankle once more. “Either way, I know you don't love me.”
“And why is that?” Zuko whispered.
“Well… you never write to me about anything exciting,” you replied. “You always seem so content to write to me about your thoughts, or what plays you've seen recently, or your conversations with Iroh. You never tell me about the impressive, world-altering Firelord stuff or your incredible exploits as a warrior.”
Zuko smirked, raising a hand to brush some hair away from your face. His fingers were calloused and lukewarm, tracing over your temple with consideration and care.
“Why else?”
“You've never tried to kiss me,” you noted, “or touch me like a lover. You never try to push our boundaries past anything that's comfortable for us. Even right now - I'm laying in your bed, but you refuse to touch me in a way you're unsure of.”
“Then you don't love me, either,” Zuko added. His body had gravitated flush to yours, your legs braided together under the pile of blankets you'd buried him in. “You only want to sleep with me when you're cold. You could just as easily call a servant for help.”
“And you only want to keep me warm out of obligation,” you agreed. “It wouldn’t make you look very good if I died of hypothermia on your watch.”
For a long moment, Zuko gazed at you. You basked in his silence, the easiness of his form so close to yours, the native feeling of his arm around your waist and his breath tickling your cheeks. The fire snapped quietly in its hearth, its flames rising and falling in time with his inhales and exhales.
“I’ve missed this,” Zuko admitted in a whisper. “Laying with you. I wish we could do it more often.”
“I’ve missed it, too,” you affirm. “I always used to sleep better with you.”
“And that’s it?” Zuko teased.
“That’s it,” you giggled back.
He chanced a kiss to your forehead, pressing his lips between your brows and letting them linger there, savoring the coolness of your skin. You shut your eyes, giving yourself entirely to his touch.
“In the new year… do you think we could be lovers?” he asked as he pulled away.
“... I think your uncle is right,” you murmured. “I think we already are.”
With a faint, bashful smile, Zuko pulled you closer (if the act were even possible), hugging you tightly to him; you held him close, pressing the whole of your body to his and soaking in his steady, comforting warmth. As the wind howled outside, shaking the flimsy wooden eaves of the feeble shelter around you, you fell asleep in the heat of his fireside, safe in the knowledge that his arms held you.

Dog Person
Javier Peña x Gender Neutral Reader
Summary: After Javier mentions being a dog person it gets Reader thinking
A/N: Hey everyone here’s my third fic for my 30 fics in 30 days for April!! This is my first non smut fic for Javier the idea came to me while I was rewatching the show recently- I tried to make it fluffy but still in character for him I hope it works out 🤞 Thanks for all the support so far on all of the fics I’ve released for the event- I’d like to hear your opinions on them if you want to drop an ask here- or really anything!! I’ll answer almost everything- plus my requests are open as well! Hope y’all enjoy 😊
Warnings: Typical talk that’s in the show- no outright conversation about the drug trade but references to Escobar, coke, etc... plus one or two references to sex and sex work
Main Masterlist Word Count: 1.2k
“I’m more of a dog person myself.” On any other day, at any other place, and if anyone else had said it wouldn’t be much to read into. The fact that it was your colleague, Javier Peña, made your ears perk up instantly. You were now no longer staring a deep hole into your coffee while you took a short break. Your break only consisted of around 5 minutes even though it was supposed to be your lunch break, plus the full mundane paperwork had killed your appetite anyway. You’d be hungrier if there was an actual lead on Escobar.
Your coffee was no longer holding your attention, firmly focused on whatever Steve and Javier had been conversing about. They had been talking about the unfortunate fate of Steve and Connie’s cat again. Apparently Connie was thinking about getting another companion, despite the tragic end of her other one. Just from hearing Steve recount Connie’s words you could tell she was suffering from loneliness, you’d have to bring your own over to visit her sometime soon.
You glanced down at your watch, groaning internally when you saw the time. You hadn’t even eaten anything yet, not that you had the appetite for it though. Break over, back to work unfortunately.
All of us had had a rough day, really a rough couple of nights. You had all been slaving over mountains of paperwork trying to find a trail that you could follow that may potentially lead to Escobar. Unfortunately for all three of you, you had all come up with zilch.
You wondered how tired your own eyes looked as you watched Javier slam his fingers down on the typewriter’s keys. His eyes were slightly puffy, surrounded by a perpetual ring of darkness that made itself permanent on any DEA agents face after the first week of transferring down here. You were new to the DEA down here, transferring from New York when the hunt for Escobar got even more dire. Your partners hadn’t gotten a chance to know you yet, Steve was almost as new as you. Yet you already had that perpetual ring of darkness around your eyes as well, being shiny and new dulled quickly in a job like this.
Despite the tiredness you still admired Javier’s eyes, his deep chocolate irises being the one place that he had a hard time hiding emotion. And, you could tell just by his eyes that he needed something to cheer him up- maybe something different to his usual leisurely activities.
That made a lightbulb flick on in your brain, thinking back to the conversation that had piqued your interest. You’d have to introduce him to a friend of yours sometime soon.
—
Sometime soon ended up being the next day after you had all gone home and gotten some rest. It was nice to have a day off for once, which normally would have you far away from your coworkers, trying in vain to cleanse yourself from work.
Javier was different though, although you enjoyed Steve as a partner Javier made you immensely intrigued. For some reason you oddly yearned to see him crack a rare smile, or just see him relaxed more so than usual. It was not like you smiled a lot or relaxed either, but you wanted to do so around Javier.
You stood in front of his door with the friend next to you trying to talk yourself into knocking on the door. Maybe he was asleep or maybe he had someone over- or maybe he’d hate your suggestion and just slam the door in your face.
Eventually after what was probably around five minutes of staring at the wall and door you talked yourself into knocking.
You rapped three quick knocks onto his door, only a minuscule moment passing before your impatience took over and you began tapping your foot.
When he finally opened your door you were greeted with a shirtless Javier only clad in jeans. Normally that would make you assume he had someone over to have fun with someone, but you didn’t hear anything through your shared walls, which was also an indicator for you.
You made sure not to linger your gaze for more than a fraction of a second on his bare bronzed torso, snapping your gaze up to his eyes.
“There’s someone who’d like to meet you, Javier.” The someone that you were about to introduce to Javier was off to the right in the hallway, just out of his view from where he was standing in the door frame. He leaned out a little to take a peak, but you moved more in front of the door frame to further block his view. You wanted him to be in suspense as to who it was before you brought out your little surprise,“If you’re willing, of course.”
“Sure.” His tone was gruff as you expected and was laced with a hint of possible irritation. You never knew why he let you get away with stuff when most people would have gotten the door slammed in their face.
You moved your right hand a little gently tugging the leash that was around your wrist to nudge your companion closer to the entrance. He happily scampered forward, ready to bask in the attention.
Javier’s head tilted downwards once he proceeded that the ‘someone’ was a lot smaller than he was expecting. Standing proudly on four feet was your black lab, wagging his tail with vigor. He always got ecstatic whenever he was about to meet someone new- not dogs though, other dogs were prime targets for his obscenely loud bark.
A faint flicker of a smile inched its way onto Javier’s face no matter how hard he tried to stop it. A smile of your own crept it’s way onto your own face when you saw a little crack in the walls he had built up. It was nice to see him happy, if only marginally. “You mentioned you were a dog person earlier today, so I thought you might like to meet mine.”
He coughed a little, clearing his throat, perhaps floundering to find a response. Instead of immediately answering you he squatted down so he was sitting on his knees, eye level with your dog. Your dog’s tongue was hanging out of his mouth, panting with excitement ready for whatever Javier had in store for him.
A look of contentment and relaxation washed over his face when Javier brought his hand up to begin to scratch and massage his ears. Of course Javier also had brought his hand up to his nose first to get him to trust him before going in.
You dropped down on your knees as well to lavish your puppy with even more attention, you couldn’t help it. He was too cute to not want to pet him 24/7. In doing so you had loosened your hold on the leash a bit which caused him to slip away from you and run all the way into Javier’s apartment.
You were about to apologize, your dog now quickly making a home on Javier’s couch. But, he beat you to it by saying with still a gruff voice that now had a little bit more joy in it, “Thanks for introducing me to him- I um, kind of needed it, hermosa.” He looked back for a second at your dog curled up on the couch before asking you something that set off butterflies in your stomach, “Would you like to come in and join us?”
Ask me anything

The first time I met my neighbor, I was moving into my new apartment. The movers from the company I hired were kind enough to bring up my heavier furniture, but I was stuck with the boxes holding my miscellaneous objects.
This was my fifth trip up to my apartment and I still had at least ten boxes lying around in the lobby. My body was starting to get tired from all of the excessive movement.
I heard the familiar ding of the elevator, signaling its arrival. With my current pace, I wouldn’t be able to get in before it closed.
“Hold the elevator!” I quickened my stride, hoping whoever on the other side of the door would be kind enough to adhere to my plea. Luckily that was the case, as I saw a hand shoot out to keep the doors from closing.
Once I made my way inside, I placed the boxes down, allowing my arms a few seconds of rest. I turned to my companion, noticing his tall figure, kind eyes, and small smile.
“Thank you.”
“No problem, what floor?” His voice was soft and sweet. He smelled like cinnamon and coffee. The words that immediately came to mind when I took all of him in were cozy and home.
“Second floor, thanks.” Just then, I noticed that the button was already lit up, signaling that it has already been pressed. “Oh, I guess we’re floor mates,” I commented with a light laugh.
“I guess we are.” There was a momentary silence as the elevator rose up the two floors. I saw him observe the boxes scattered on my feet. “I’m assuming the other packages downstairs are yours,” he stated.
“You got that right.” The doors opened with a ding as I tried to quickly pick up and balance the items in my arms once again. Before I could say something, the kind stranger grabbed one of my boxes and held it in his hands.
“You don’t have to,” I started to protest, “I don’t want to be wasting your time.”
“It’s fine. Helping people is what I do.”
I wanted to complain, to put up more of a fight but my body was already starting to feel weak. It’s been hours since I’ve rested and the heat was not helping my current situation.
With that in mind, I begrudgingly accepted his help. “Okay, but I owe you one.” I led us down the hallway, taking a turn until we were in front of door #24.
“Wow,” I heard him whisper to himself. I was confused as to why he made that comment. Did I do something weird? Is there something embarrassing on my pants?
“What?”
“Nothing, it’s just that I live across from you. I’ve never had a neighbor my age before.” He pointed to the door that was behind us, a small smile adorning his face. I couldn’t help but reciprocate with a grin of my own.
“Wow indeed. I promise you I won’t have loud music or multiple visitors.” I open the door, pushing it wide enough for my neighbor to easily go through. I gestured for him to place the box on the floor while I put mine on top of the kitchen’s table.
“Do you want help with the rest of your stuff?” he asked, taking note of the disarray in the small space.
“Yes, I’d appreciate that.”
We finished bringing the rest of my stuff back to my apartment in record time. What would have taken me five trips was cut down to two. I thanked him profusely throughout the whole ordeal and he laughed every time I did so. Once we had all the boxes inside, I made sure to see him out the door, thanking him a final time for his help.
“It’s not a problem, really,” he said, his voice getting slightly higher in pitch. “Uh, my name is Dr. Spencer Reid by the way. Y-you can call me Spencer. It’s less of a mouthful. Or Reid, whichever you prefer. I answer to all three.”
He had the shy smile on his face once more and I couldn’t help but repeat his name in my head. Dr. Spencer Reid. “Pleasure to meet you Dr. Reid. I’m (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
It was at that moment that I associated Spencer with kindness.
●●●
The second time I saw Dr. Reid, I was jogging at the park. It has been two months since I last spoke to him and I felt a twinge of sadness at our lack of interactions. I figured since I was the first neighbor he had his age, that we would be seeing each other more often. Guess that was wishful thinking on my part. I shouldn’t be too upset, he’s a doctor after all; his hours must be crazy.
I was slowing down on my run, searching for a nearby fountain to fill up my bottle. Instead, I found Dr. Reid sitting on a bench, skimming through a thick book. The happiness that filled my body should be embarrassing, I only talked to the guy once. Nevertheless, I made my way too him.
“Dr. Reid!” He startled a bit, almost dropping his book. He looked up, a smile gracing his face when he recognized it was me.
“Hi (Y/N). How are you?”
“I’m pretty good, long time no see,” I stated, hoping he’ll hear the humor in my tone. He gazed at me and for a moment I felt self-conscious. I’m a sweaty mess right now. Loose strands of my hair were sticking to my forehead and my face was red.
“You-uh-went for a run?” he stammered out. A slight pink tint crept on to his cheeks, which I am pretty sure was due to the sun’s rays.
“Yeah, I try to get some exercise here and there when I can. How’s everything going at the hospital by the way?” Maybe if I find out what his schedule is like, I’ll be able to see him more.
“Pardon me?” Crap, did I say something wrong? I tried to recollect the small amount of information I gathered from him when we first met. I don’t recall him mentioning where he works. Maybe he has his own clinic.
“Sorry. Do you have a private practice?” I hated how nervous my voice sounded as I asked him. Spencer’s look of confusion quickly morphed into one of mirth. He let out a small laugh and I became more perplexed by his actions.
“I’m not that kind of doctor,” he clarified. “I hold PhDs in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Engineering as well as BAs in Philosophy, Sociology, and Psychology.” His voice lowered a bit at the end and he started looking elsewhere once he finished his statement. Was he ashamed of his accomplishments? I hope not. If I were him, I’d be bragging to anyone within listening distance of my achievements.
“That’s very impressive, I barely know what’s going on in my own profession. You must be some kind of genius,” I remarked with awe. His head snapped back at me, probably trying to figure out if I was pulling his leg.
“Well, I do have an IQ of 187 as well as an eidetic memory. I can also read 20,000 words per minute,” he stated, his voice returning to its usual octave. I glanced at the book on his lap, he probably was reading the text instead of skimming through it like I initially thought.
“So if you’re not a medical doctor, what do you do? If you don’t mind me asking,” I wondered.
“I work for the FBI, with the BAU. Behavioral Analysis Unit. We catch serial killers, terrorists, rapists, and other criminals by analyzing their personalities.” I would have never guessed this man was a federal agent.
“Wow, so you’re a professional hero then.”
He laughed once more before shaking his head, “I’m far from a hero. I just use my skills to my advantage. It’s all in a day’s work.”
I can now add humility to my mental list when describing Spencer Reid. With every moment I spend with him, my infatuation seems to grow.
I was going to continue talking when an insistent cough came out from the man to our left. He sat in front of the chess table, staring at us expectantly. His eyes kept on dashing between Spencer and myself. I scowled at him, wondering what his problem was.
“Uh this is my friend Eric,” Spencer said to me, gesturing to the coughing man. “Eric, this is (Y/N), my neighbor.” Great, now I feel like a jerk for thinking of his friend in such a rude manner.
“Nice to meet you,” I said.
“Likewise.” His eyes returned to Spencer, gawking at him as if he had a secret. However, Spencer’s attention was on his phone and I saw his features change to a stoic expression.
“I have to go; it's work,” he said to the both of us. He gathered his items and stood up from the bench. He turned to me, “Hopefully I can see you by the apartment more often.”
“Hopefully,” I agreed, “See you soon, neighbor.” I flashed him a smile and waved goodbye. He returned the gestures as he walked away.
At that moment I associated Spencer with bravery.

The third time I saw Spencer Reid, I baked too many cookies. It’s been two weeks since I last saw him, but I knew he was working hard. I heard him come in pretty late last night when I was finishing some chores and decided to come up with a reason to see him. Hence the cookies.
I tried to make sure I appeared decent this time around. So far, the only times he has seen me, I’ve been sweaty and tired. After applying a small amount of makeup and putting on my favorite sundress, I was ready to go.
I made my way across the hallway, balancing the plate with one hand while knocking on his door with my other. I didn’t need to wait that long before the door opened. Only the person I was expecting was not behind it. My smile immediately left my face.
“Hi, can I help you?” asked the beautiful petite blonde woman. Oh god, this is probably his girlfriend. And I am over here pinning over him like a pathetic little girl. If the ground could have swallowed me up, that would’ve been a blessing.
“I made these for Spe- uh Dr. Reid. As a thank you for helping me move,” I quickly stated, hoping she doesn’t hear the dejection in my voice. “Can you please give these to him?” I stared down at my shoes as I pushed the plate towards her hands, cursing my own for being a bit shaky.
“(Y/N)?” I heard a lowly voice whisper. I turned back towards the door and saw Spencer standing behind his girlfriend. He whispered something in her ear before motioning for her to go inside. She glanced at me quickly before doing as he requested. Great, so they both know about my little crush and now he has to come let me down gently.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, although I am sure he had an inkling with the way he was eyeing the plate still in my hand.
“I baked some cookies. Chocolate chip.” I cleared my throat, hating the way it clogged up so fast. “As a thank you for helping me. Had I known your girlfriend was over, I would have given you some more.”
“She’s not my girlfriend, she’s my colleague,” he corrected, that shy smile that I grew to love on his face once again.
“Oh.” A sigh of relief left my body only for it to stiffen once more. Sure she’s not his girlfriend but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have one.
I debated whether I should ask him if he's single or not, but figured that would be pushing boundaries. I shouldn’t be asking someone such intimate details about their personal life, especially on the third encounter. But then again, it’ll be nice to know his relationship status before I dig myself too deep in this hole. However, he deserves to tell me that kind of information without me pestering him. Although he migh---
My thought process was interrupted when I saw a hand, Spencer’s hand, waving in front of my face. He had an expression of confusion yet amusement on his face. He was the only person I know who was able to pull off the look.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” He asked with slight concern in his voice. Or at least I’d like to imagine that there was slight concern. I’d like to think he cared over my well-being. I shook myself out of my stupor, returning my attention back to him.
“I’m sorry, I was distracted. What was it that you were saying?” I noticed I was still holding the plate so I quickly placed them in his waiting hands. Gosh, how many times am I going to embarrass myself in front of this man?
“I said that it’s a good thing that I don’t have a girlfriend. I wouldn’t want to share these with her.” Spencer’s voice had that timid tone once again, the one that reminded me of when he was talking about his accomplishments. I saw the redness on his cheeks which I’m sure matched my own.
“You never know Dr. Reid, these may be the worst cookies you’ve ever had,” I teased. I couldn’t hide my current contentment no matter how hard I tried. The more I talked to him, the more I wanted to spend time with him.
“I highly doubt that. If they’re as sweet as you I’m sure I’ll enjoy them.” I felt butterflies in my stomach at his statement. I’m pretty sure my face got even redder because all I felt was heat enveloping my form.
“Well, my door is always open if you want more,” I responded. And to think that I wanted to drop dead on the floor a few minutes ago.
“I’ll be sure to take you up on the offer,” he smiled, this one bigger than the others I have seen so far. My heartbeat picked up a little and I prayed that he didn’t know the effect he had on me.
I needed to go back to my sanctuary. I can only handle so much before I internally implode and that’ll do neither of us any good.
“See you around Dr. Reid.” I started a slow retreat to my door. Once I made it inside, I turned to see he was still staring at me.
“See you (Y/N).” He waved to me before closing the door.
At that moment I associated Spencer with warmth.
●●●
The fourth time I saw Reid, I wasn’t prepared. The day was going on pretty normally. I did my daily routine and made a trip to the grocery store. Thankfully, it wasn’t packed so I was able to go in and out within minutes.
I was placing my purchased items in my car when I heard a noise behind me. I couldn’t figure out what it was. I’d typically ignore it, but my mind was screaming at me that something was off.
When I turned around, I saw a man with a bloody knife in his hand staring at me a few feet away. He seemed as if he came straight out of a horror film, the crazed look on his face made me very uneasy. I thought that this had to be someone’s idea of a sick joke.
He slowly made his way towards me, knife up ready to strike. I didn’t bother closing my trunk before I jumped into my car, thanking the angels above that I left it on and running. I turned my key in the ignition, preparing to drive off when all of a sudden this man was at the driver’s window.
He was pounding hard against the glass repeatedly, leaving bloody prints in his wake. I screamed as I saw cracks forming, knowing it was a matter of time before he would hurt me. Pure adrenaline kicked in as I stomped on the gas pedal. I zipped by him, feeling a bump as I most likely ran over his foot.
I kept driving, not stopping until I thought I was in a safe area, which happened to be a relatively deserted dead end. I called 911 and told them about the situation. How they understood me through my hysteria is beyond me but I was informed that help was on the way.
I watched around my surroundings, noting the few people that did walk by. They stared at my car with concern but I didn’t care. I was hyper-vigilant now, holding my keys as if they can offer me a smudge of protection. All I could hear was the sound of his footsteps, the sight of the bloody knife occupying my mind.
Even when the cop cars and black vans pulled up, I did not feel safe. I stayed inside, not daring to come out. Despite seeing a middle-aged cop approach my passenger door, I still jumped when she tapped on the window. It reminded me of the pounding I heard barely fifteen minutes ago.
Tears streamed down my face as I felt myself hyperventilate. Oh my gosh. oh my gosh, oh my gosh. I could have died just now. I could have been dead. It would have taken a few seconds for him to plunge the knife into me, taking away my life. My body would have probably been cold before anyone would have notified the authorities.
The driver’s door opened and I held my keys closer to my chest. I know that it was irrational of me to get defensive over the people that I called for help but I couldn’t help it. My body was still on fight or flight mode and there was nowhere else for me to run to.
“(Y/N). It’s me, Spencer.” What? Is my mind playing tricks on me? Bringing forth the person that could offer me the best comfort at this moment. But as I turned my head, I took in the sight of him. Spencer was here, he was actually here.
“Sp-Spe-Spencer,” I cried out, tears still trailing down my face.
“Yes, I’m here. Can you grab my hand? Can I take you out of there?”
All of sudden, I wanted out of this car. I quickly jumped into his arms, holding him as close to me as possible. The scent of coffee and cinnamon helped to relax me.
I felt his arms wrapped around me, his hands running soft circles against my back. “Shhhhh. It’s okay. You did so well. I’m so proud of you.”
Proud? Of me? I didn’t do anything remarkable. I panicked and ran.
“Do me a favor. Breathe with me. Follow the way that I breathe,” he stated, his voice offering me serenity and calmness. He could have asked me to jump over a bridge or deep dive into the Atlantic Ocean and I would have done it at the moment.
I obeyed his instructions; inhaling and exhaling the same way he was. I followed the movement of his chest, captivated by the soothing rhythm. The adrenaline slowly started to leave my body. The blood rushing in my ears gradually decreased in volume and my breathing began to lengthen once again.
“Reid, the ambulance is here. They can examine her.” I heard a deep baritone voice say. I didn’t want to go, I didn’t want Spencer to leave me. I tightened my hands around him and buried my face even deeper into his chest, enveloping myself in his scent even more.
“It’s okay Hotch, I’ll take care of it,” I heard Spencer say. The vibration of his chest as he spoke brought warmth to me once again. I wish we could be in this position under different circumstances.
“The paramedics need to check you,” he whispered to me. “But I’ll be right next to you the whole time. I’m not going to let you go.” I peeked over at the ambulance, feeling my heartbeat picking up once more. I didn’t want to go, but I had to have faith in Spencer. I gazed up at him, needing affirmation of his previous statement.
“Promise?”
“Promise.” He offered me that small smile of his. The one that is full of comfort and tenderness.
I believed him. I trusted Spencer more than I feared the unknown.
He kept his word. Spencer stayed by my side the whole time I was with the paramedics, the car ride back to the precinct, and the duration of the questioning I received from some of his teammates. He even drove me back home and walked me to my door, promising to check on me in the morning.
At that moment I associated Spencer with safety.
●●●
The fifth time I saw Spencer, I was making dinner. It’s been a couple of days since I last saw him and my life was slowly returning to normal. I still flinched when I heard loud noises and I strayed from using my bigger knives. However, the nightmares have decreased and the therapist I’m seeing is very helpful. I hope I can go back to being the person I was before this incident.
I heard a gentle knock on my door. I made sure to calm myself down before answering. Unexpected loud noises still frighten me but I am slowly moving past it. I made my way to the entrance, checking the peephole before answering.
I unlocked the door, welcoming the sight of Spencer on the other side. It amazes me how fast my lips tug upwards just from looking at him.
“Hi (Y/N).” He gave me a small wave and an even smaller smile. “We caught him. He won’t be able to hurt you or anyone ever again,” he promises.
Something tells me that he didn’t have to come over here to personally deliver this message. Sure, we’re neighbors, but he didn’t have to go out of his way to tell me information that can be delivered with a phone call or a text.
“Thank you. I really appreciate you telling me this.” I took in his form. He appeared tired, more so than usual. I guess he just got out of work, especially since he still had his satchel on him. He didn’t even go back to his place before coming to mine.
The small pause lingered between us. Spencer looked like he was debating on what to say next. “Well, enjoy the rest of your evening.” He started taking small steps towards his door.
“Wait,” I shouted. The word came out louder than anticipated in the quiet hall. He startled a little but stopped walking to focus his attention on me.
“Would you like to stay for dinner?” I asked, hopeful that he would accept my request. “I assure you there is plenty of food. Plus, it’ll be nice to be in your company again,” I finished. His head tilted as he stared at me, a bewildered expression on his face. I felt mine heating up as I realized the mistake I made.
“Uh I-I mean to have company. It’ll be n-nice to have company again,” I rushed out. I anxiously waited for his response as he contemplated my invitation. His hands were fiddling with one another and I saw a slight blush decorating his cheeks.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had a home-cooked meal,” he stated with a smile that I returned. I moved out the way, allowing him to enter my lovely abode.
“You can place your jacket and satchel on the coat rack. Make yourself comfortable, I’ll be right back.” I made my way back to the kitchen, checking on the food to make sure it hadn't burned. I then opened the fridge, grabbing my pitcher of water.
“I like the way you arranged your furniture. Your living room looks a lot more spacious than mine.” I heard Spencer commented. I poured the water into a glass before walking back to where he was standing. He was admiring the small stack of books I had on my shelf.
“Thank you, I tried to make the most of what I got. I’m glad it worked out.” I handed him the glass of water which he graciously took from me. I cursed myself for staring at the way he drank the cool liquid, his Adam’s apple bobbing with every swallow.
“Dinner is almost ready,” I stated, my pitch coming out higher than normal. I hoped my face was not as red as it felt.
“It smells amazing. Would you like me to set the table?” he asked.
I looked at Spencer again, noticing that he had a different smile on him. This one was wider and more genuine. I could see his white teeth peeking through. This smile gave me a sense of domesticity, affection, purity, and more. I am sure the grin on my face matched all the emotions I felt for him as we stood in front of one another in my living room.
At that moment I associated Spencer with love.

(光与夜之恋 Light and Night) Evan’s Personal Route Chapter 1-2: Candle-Lit Game (烛光博弈) Translation
“So this is how he, who I've always been following, is truly like?”
*Light and Night Master-list | Evan’s Personal Masterlist *Spoiler free: Translations will remain under cut *Join the Light & Night Discord (^▽^)~ ♪ *Evan’s tag will be #For Night, For Revolution
Not long later, Evan's car stopped in front of a quiet victorian-style townhouse amidst a noisy neighbourhood.
An impeccably dressed waiter steps up politely to help us open the doors of the car.
I followed after him as we proceeded along a gravel path surrounded by rose bushes.
I looked at the gap between the rocks of the gravel path and back to my high heels again, awkwardly slowing down as I went.
This was when Evan, who had been walking alongside me, came to a stop. He crooked his elbow in my direction, offering it for me to take.
Evan: The path here is hard to tread.
Taking one cautionary glance at the winding road before me, I hesitated for a moment before linking my arm with his.
Perhaps it was because of how stiffly I was moving, for the sides of Evan’s lips quirked upwards. He slightly inclined his head, glancing at me.
Evan: Why? Are you not used to it?
I was speechless for a while as I attempted to formulate an answer that wouldn’t immediately out me.
As if reading my mind, he spoke once more, his voice tinged with faint amusement.
Evan: I'm talking about the dinner party.
MC: Oh, the dinner party… Honestly, it's a little out of my league.
MC: Can I ask who's going to be attending?
Evan: One is a senior I'm familiar with, and another, is something I think you'll know.
MC: Someone I know?
I tried to think of who it might be; alas, coming up with nothing.
Evan: I remember you once saying that you fancied the perfume brand that was under Zeal.
Evan: If so, then do you know about the founder, Zee?
MC: Oh! I saw his post this afternoon. I think he’s in Guangqi City now.
MC: Wait a minute! Don't tell me—
I gave Evan an incredulous look, only to see him nod with a faint smile playing on his lips.
Evan: Yes. The senior that I happen to be close to is also coincidentally a close friend of Mr. Zee’s.
Evan: Today’s dinner party’s to welcome him.
Evan spoke lightly of it, but I couldn’t help but feel nervous.
Today’s dinner party is way more important than I thought! It might even affect the cooperation between both companies!
My heart unwittingly raced at the thought, and I’d subconsciously tightened my grip on his arm.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
The waiter pulled the doors open for us when we reached the entrance, and a middle-aged man immediately came up to greet us both.
??: It's been a long time, young Lu.
Evan: Sorry to keep you waiting, Uncle Pan.
Mr. Pan: No need to be so polite. I've only just arrived as well.
Mr. Pan: Let's put all of that aside for now. Shouldn't you first introduce your lady friend here?
I suddenly realized that I’ve been clinging onto his arm ever since entering the room, quickly letting go of it.
Evan merely went along with me and relaxed the arm that he’d held up for me. He nodded at Uncle Pan and faced him with a light smile.
Evan: This is (Y/n), a very talented Fashion Designer of my Company's.
Evan: (Y/n), this is Uncle Pan, a renowned businessman in Guangqi's business world, and also a senior of mine that I greatly respect.
I hurriedly extended a hand to Uncle Pan, who'd come to greet us.
MC: Hello, Uncle Pan…
Mr. Pan: Haha, no need to be so polite, Miss (Y/n). The food served in this restaurant is something that you cannot miss out on! Do be sure to eat lots!
MC: Will do! Thank you!
Mr. Pan: Take (Y/n) inside first, young Lu.
Evan: Alright.
We both bowed our heads slightly at him, expressing our gratitude. The waiter immediately came up, leading us to the room on the second floor.
All that could be heard was our footsteps, echoing in the elegant hallway.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Not long after we’d seated ourselves, Uncle Pan entered the room followed by another middle-aged man.
I could recognize him at a glance. That man was none other than Zee.
Time did not dull his edge. In fact, it merely gave him a couple of notches of calmness. His sharp eyes openly swept across everyone present without the slightest bit of hesitation. I don’t know if it was just me, but I felt as if something had flashed in his eyes when his line of sight fell on me.
After Uncle Pan had finished with his brief introductions, Evan leaned forwards, extending a hand out to Zee.
Evan: It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Zee.
Zee raised his eyebrows and contemplated him for a good long while before slowly reaching out to shake his hand.
Zee: Warson's CEO? Pleasure's mine.
After exchanging greetings, Uncle Pan smiled as he patted both of their shoulders, gesturing for everyone to take a seat at the table.
Evan and I were seated at one side, while Zee and Uncle Pan were on the other.
The waiter began to serve us the dishes in an orderly manner.
For a while, the only thing that could be heard was the soft thuds of a leather shoe against the low pile carpet, accompanied by the occasional clink of tableware.
Evan: I've long since heard that you're an avid collector of antiques, Mr. Zee. So, I've prepared a gift to commemorate our first meeting.
The words had only left his lips when two men dressed impeccably in suit and gloves stepped up with a scroll, unravelling it for everyone to view.
It was an ancient painting. The paper had already yellowed, but the picture depicted on it was complete and clear, boasting vibrant colours, its inscription and seal as clear as the day and distinguishable.
Although I’d often visited the museum as a kid, it was the ancient outfits and accessories that had piqued my interest. Hence, my limited understanding when it came to calligraphy and paintings. I could only tell that this was a work that originated from the Qing Dynasty, which had used the lighting styles, shading styles, and the perspective of many western artworks as reference.
The sides of Zee’s mouth curved slightly upwards, his eyes lighting up with joy at the sight.
Zee: It truly is a treasure of invaluable rarity.
Zee: Looks like you really do know your stuff, Mr. Lu.
Evan: Can’t say I do, myself; but, I’ve often heard Uncle Pan talk about your passion when it comes to these things.
Mr. Pan: Young Lu here’s very considerate. He remembers everything I tell him!
Mr. Pan: You too. Stop evading and take it already!
Zee: If my old pal insists; then I shall.
Zee: Still, it wouldn’t look all that good for me to take something without giving something else in return.
Zee: I’ve recently found an interesting little gadget. You can have it as a return gift if it interests you.
Saying so, Zee snapped his fingers with a smirk.
In a snap of a finger, a man behind him brought forth an intricately carved jewellery box made out of lacquered wood, placing it before us.
The inside of the red box was padded with fine silk, and lying above it was an exquisite gold hairpin.
MC: This! Isn't this Wanli’s Gold Hairpin!?
Then, all gazes turned to me. I flushed with embarrassment.
MC: Sorry, that was inappropriate of me….
Zee turned to look at me in rapt interest, with something inexplicable simmering behind his smile.
Zee: As expected of you, Mr. Lu. Even your female companion’s so learned and talented. You have a keen eye, Miss (Y/n).
Zee: I wonder just how much you know about this gold hairpin? How about you tell us more about it?
He'd already motioned towards the man in a suit, not waiting for me to reply. The box was then placed before me.
The gold and reds perfectly complemented each other, traversing through hundreds of years to now stand before my eyes. I could acutely feel the complexity and magnificence of this gold hairpin.
However, tonight was not a night of antique appreciation. Every act, every action of mine might contribute to whether or not the cooperation between the two companies will come to pass in the future…
I subconsciously turned to Evan. He smiled faintly, nodding his head in what seemed like encouragement.
The nervousness I felt instantaneously dispersed somewhat. I requested a set of gloves from the suited man, putting them on before carefully cracking the gold hairpin in my palm.
MC: Well… if you’ll pardon my inadequacy.
MC: Judging from the appearance and the workmanship, this filigree dragon pattern inlaid with the jewellery should have been made in the Ming Dynasty, during Wanli's reign.
MC: The gold and silver accessories during that time were richly patterned and intricately pieced together. They're often made through carving methods like this, alongside hollowing methods.
MC: I've once seen a similar gold kissing prochilodus hairpin with a self-defence mechanism.
MC: It had a silver needle hidden in a hollow compartment at the end, which can be released when required.
MC: I think this one’s the same as well.
Saying so, I tried to recall how the mechanism worked and where it was located from a book I’d seen in the past. Sure enough, I managed to find a catch at the very tip of the dragon’s tail.
MC: Maybe down here?
MC: The material used on this particular part is different from what the rest of the hairpin is made of, which means that this is most likely the place where the trigger’s hidden.
Zee: Oh? Then how about you show us, Miss (Y/n)?
MC: But this is just a hypothesis of mine, and this gold hairpin is way too valuable to be poking around with…
Zee: No matter. All hypotheses require to be tested. Besides, you’ve intrigued me.
MC: I’ll… I’ll try then.
Under everyone’s watchful gazes, I focused all my concentration on the gold hairpin in my hand as I gave it a thorough check through.
MC: There’s a small metal latch to the left of the ruby at the bottom. That should be the trigger!
Hearing that, Zee merely raised his eyebrows, as if awaiting my next move.
Is he… waiting for me to trigger it?
I was nervous because I didn't know whether it'd really make a silver needle slide out; so much that my back was covered in a sheen of nervous sweat. I took in a deep breath, trying my damndest to curb the tremor in my hand as I reached out towards that one particular ruby.
Just as I was about to touch the trigger, a hand placed itself atop my wrist, holding me back.
Evan: Allow me.
I could acutely feel his slightly cooler body temperature even through the gloves I wore.
Having said that, he too, requested a set of gloves before taking the gold hairpin from my grasp.
Evan: Here?
MC: Yeah…
Evan carefully angled the end of the hairpin so that it faced the inside of the jewellery box before gently pressing on the mechanism's trigger…
All we heard was a slight swoosh as a silver needle revealed itself against the silk cushions that padded the box under everyone's watchful gazes.
MC: !
I drew in a long, deep breath, shooting Evan a grateful look, which he returned with a smile.
He placed the gold hairpin back into the jewellery box before turning back to Zee.
Evan: Your return gift certainly does have exquisite workmanship, Mr. Zee. Thank you, I love it.
Hearing what Evan said, Zee, who had been leaning back into his chair with his eyes closed, suddenly perked up and leaned forwards with the sides of his mouth raised.
Zee: Why, don’t give me all the credit here. If Miss (Y/n) hadn’t found the mechanism, I wouldn’t have ever known that this little thing had a catch to it.
Zee: Looks like I should talk to her more, given the chance. I believe that we share a lot of common interests.
Zee: How about… we get Mr. Lu to specially authorize you to be my assistant during my stay here in Guangqi City?
Zee: If so, then we'll have more opportunities to talk and work together with each other.
Zee raised the goblet in his hand, gesturing at me.
For a while, I couldn't find a way to refuse him as I subconsciously raised my wineglass along with him, preparing to take a sip out of it.
Suddenly, Evan's hand cane upon mine, removing the glass from my grasp.
Evan: Thank you for your appreciation.
Evan: Although… she's a brilliant Designer of ours, so she has her responsibilities as well as her work arrangements.
Evan: If there is a need, I can always elect someone better and much more suited to be your assistant.
Evan's curvy eyes still held a smile within them, yet what came out from his mouth was an undeniable refusal towards Zee's request.
The red wine swirled within the glass as two glasses clinked together with a crisp and clear sound.
I could faintly see a tinge of dark red mixed into the bottom of his eyes. Perhaps it was an illusion caused by the candlelight, or perhaps of the reflection from the dark red wine within the glass...
Zee glanced at me, unfazed. His fingers slowly trailed along the rim of his cup. His smile returned to his face after a moment of silence.
Zee: I’ll have to trouble you then.
Evan: Not at all.
Zee: I'm not trying to make things hard for anyone here, but who knows, we might have another chance to work together in the future.
Zee: All beauty in this world requires time to ferment and brew like fine wine, and I'm not against waiting.
Evan nodded, smiling humbly at him. However, the edges of his eyes, slightly curved upwards in a smile, held a faint, yet dangerously sharp glint to them.
Evan: How about we add a little value into your time of wait instead of wasting the time that passes doing nothing?
Evan: I’ve heard that Zeal is expanding into the global market as of late. I do have a suggestion if you’re interested…
Zee narrowed his eyes into a pensive smile. There was a sly scheming glint in his long and narrow eyes as he did the math
Zee: You’ve really done your homework, Mr. Lu. Do share with the class.
He leaned forward, peaking with interest. A rush of nervousness hits me, but just as we were about to enter the main topic...
A vibrating sound suddenly sounded. Zee held up his phone, glancing at it, before turning back to us with a smile.
Zee: I’ll go pick this call up. You don’t mind, do you?
Uncle Pan responded in the affirmative, and I hurriedly followed suit, shaking my head together with Evan.
Zee pushed the door open and left. I didn’t know if it was because my nerves had been too highly strung in nervousness earlier, or if it was due to the temperatures running higher within the dining room, but I suddenly felt a bout of dizziness hit me.
Should I take this chance to go outside for some fresh air?
❖ Choice A: Do nothing
I looked out at the rustling leaves outside the window, swaying in the wind, slightly hesitant.
Evan: Want to go out and stretch your legs?
Evan’s voice suddenly sounded by my ear, making me turn and look up.
He was always like this, easily seeing through my thoughts, yet remaining a comfortable distance away as he asks for my opinion.
MC: Yeah… I feel a little cooped up in here.
Hearing this, Uncle Pan only smiled.
Mr. Pan: Take her out for a walk then, young Lu. The scenery outside is beautiful, if I must say so myself.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
After thanking Uncle Pan, Evan led me out to the veranda.
The white sheer curtain fluttered along with the wind with the soft moonlight dancing quietly on top of it. Everything was calm and serene.
The air was filled with the faint fragrance of flowers. I stretched my neck, peering down. There was a large bed of roses blooming in the gardens down below.
I braced both hands on the railing, closing my eyes and inhaling deeply.
Evan: Feel better?
MC: Much better!
Evan smiled gently, but it soon turned into one of concern.
Evan: I can send you back first if you're uncomfortable with the dinner party.
MC: ...Did I cause trouble for you?
He shakes his head, gently stroking the top of my head.
Evan: No. You've done brilliantly.
Evan: It's just… I don't wish to see you push yourself, even if it's only out of your concern for me.
MC: Right…
The pent-up frustration in my head seemingly subsided upon hearing his words.
What’s there for me to worry about when I have him by my side?
I lowered my hands from the railings and turned towards the direction of the dining room.
MC: But, I think I'll accompany you till the end of this dinner party.
Evan was stunned for a while before he smiled and offered me his arm.
This time, I took his arm without hesitation as we headed further down the corridor side-by-side.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Zee had already returned to the dining room by the time we got back.
Evan and Zee both continued their precious discussion about working together and the dinner party soon ended smoothly without a hitch.
☆ NORMAL END: Fading Exit ☆ "Next time, keep up and stay sharp!"
❖ Choice B: Stay in the private dining room
Although Zee has left, he'll probably be back shortly. The first half of the dinner party's over, so I just have to pull through for a while more.
I breathed a light sigh as I tucked the loose strands of hair back behind my ear, trying to relax.
Noticing this, Evan inclined his head.
Evan: Relax. It's fine.
MC: ...Okay.
The tense atmosphere within the dining room lightened up with Uncle Pan's warm hospitality, and Zee soon returned.
The waiter continued serving the next set of dishes. One exquisite dish after another was slowly placed before me, and they all tasted pleasantly divine.
In the end, Zee never once broached the topic of an assistant again.
The night grew on as we walked out of the victorian-style townhouse. The waiter already had our car prepared and waiting for us.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Upon reaching my apartment building, Evan got out of the car, holding the door open for me. He stood under the streetlights, looking at me.
Evan: Rest earlier today.
After making my way upstairs, I leaned out of the window and waved as I watched his car disappear around the corner of the road.
My phone vibrated not long after the car disappeared from my field of vision.
Picking it up, I saw that it was a message from Evan.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Evan (SMS): Good night, sweet dreams.
I held my phone, smiling as I inputted the same words into it.
MC (SMS): Good night, Evan...
☆ NORMAL END: Bystander ☆ "Sometimes, opportunities lie beyond the light at the end of the tunnel through the cracks of the willow's shade…"
❖ Choice C: Head out to the veranda and get some air
I took the chance and excused myself from the room, coming out to the veranda in hopes of easing my nerves.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
The night breeze up at the veranda was cooling. It blew off the heat that had been created from my restlessness and felt utterly refreshing.
After taking in a couple of deep breaths, I patted my face and prepared to go back inside. Much to my surprise, I turned around only to be met face-to-face by none other than Zee himself.
Zee: Miss (Y/n), what a coincidence to see you here.
He smiled as he strolled up to me. I subconsciously took a step backwards. Noticing this, Zee's smile widened.
Zee: I do hope you weren’t bothered by the incident earlier. Is that why you’re purposely trying to avoid me, Miss (Y/n)?
I hurriedly shook my head, slightly raising my head to meet his gaze.
MC: Surely, you must be joking, Mr. Zee. I just came out for some air and was just about to head back in.
Zee had a playful glint in his eyes. He lifted his hand to his chin, suddenly moving forwards to block me off.
Zee: Why such a hurry? Care to accompany me for a walk?
MC: But Uncle Pan and Mr. Lu are still waiting for us back inside…
Before I could finish, Zee purposely moved even closer, his eyes narrowed into a close eyed smile.
Zee: Looks like you trust Mr. Lu a great lot, Miss (Y/n). I wonder… Just how much do you know about his past?
MC: What are you implying, Mr. Zee?
Zee: There's no need for you to be afraid, Miss (Y/n). The more approachable a person, the higher the chance that they're hiding another side of them.
Zee: They do say that "Someone of talent is free to choose their own master". And it seems like you are completely unaware of Evan's past.
Zee: And with someone as talented as you, Miss (Y/n)... I cannot bear to leave you in the dark.
He presumptuously sized me up in such a smarmy manner that it was unsettlingly uncomfortable.
I tried to bypass him and head in the direction of the dining room, but he'd seen through me and moved his body to block off my escape.
A sort of unease that stemmed from being forced to do something welled up on me. I wanted to flee, yet I didn't dare to refuse him outright.
What should I do now?
Just as I was trapped between a wall and a hard place, I heard a familiar set of footsteps sound from the other end of the hallway.
Raising my head, I saw a reassuring figure headed straight for us.
Evan!
He walked straight up to us, reaching out to place his hand around my shoulders before pulling me back to his side with a little force.
I raised my head, looking up at him. Those eyes of his, usually as warm and gentle as jade, were now slightly dark. There was an unknown emotion flickering within the bottom of his eyes that I couldn't make out.
Evan: So this was where you were, Mr. Zee.
The corners of Zee's lips slowly upturned into a smile, although that didn't quite reach his eyes, which were clearly glinting in displeasure.
Zee: Mr. Lu. I only wanted to have a nice chat with her, so what is the meaning of this?
Zee: I know that she's someone close to you, but you can't go making all the decisions for her like that.
Zee: Actually, she has just agreed to become my special assistant during my stay here at Guangqi City. What!?
Zee had effortlessly told a lie, with not a trace of it to be seen on his face. He raises his eyebrow and turns to look at me.
I steeled myself, forcing a polite smile onto my face.
MC: Surely you must be joking, Mr. Zee. Antiques and managing daily schedules are not things that I specialize in, so there's no way I can ever become an assistant of yours...
Zee's countenance darkens upon hearing this. His eyes landed on me as he seemingly contemplates something.
I don't know whether it was because I was too nervous, but I could feel my shoulders trembling ever so slightly. Evan calmly drew me closer to him, the amiable smile remaining ever-present on his face.
Evan: If you require an assistant, then I shall personally arrange one for you.
Evan: It is merely a matter of picking out the right candidate for the job. However, please do give me some time to make a good selection for your needs.
Looking at the expression Evan had on his face, Zee suddenly lets out a loud laugh.
Zee: Hahaha. Alright. Beautiful women are one a plenty in this world, and it looks like you're not willing to forsake this treasured one of yours.
The smile was still on Evan's face, but this time, he'd slightly narrowed his eyes.
Evan: Now, you're mistaken, Mr. Zee. (Y/n) doesn't belong to anyone at all, so any talk of "forsaking" will never come to pass.
Evan: Uncle Pan is still waiting for us inside the dining room. We shouldn't keep him waiting.
Not another peep came from Zee as he turned and walked back to the dining room in large strides.
It was only when he'd completely disappeared from our view that Evan let go of me and faced me with a thoroughly concerned look.
Evan: You okay, (Y/n)?
I shook my head. My heart was still wildly pounding.
Evan: I apologize for making you face that sort of predicament alone.
Evan: It won't happen again. You have my word.
The panic in my heart gradually subsided. I shut my eyes tight and fought against the stuffiness of my nose as I tried not to cry.
MC: Thank you, Evan.
Evan's expression gradually grew softer. He raised his hand, gently patting my back.
Evan: Don't worry. We're the only ones here now.
Evan: Enjoy the wind a little more with me, then we can head back in together.
MC: Okay...
I knew, deep down. He wasn't here to enjoy the wind at all, but rather, he'd used it as an excuse to allow me, in all my embarrassing glory, some time to calm myself down.
The strength behind the hand on my back brought about a comforting warmth, settling my taut nerves.
The moonlight was akin to water, shrouding us within its silvery embrace.

Murphy day
Masterlist - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
Pairing: Bad Batch x Reader
Words: 3726 words
Warnings: Nothing really.
A/N: This is pure madness! @shadow-hyder this is your fault! Also, this will be a 3 part story so stay tuned for what'll happen next!
Fors is an Original planet. I do not give permission to people to use it for their own fics, the planet, the animals, the Nightmares, the lore or anything related to Fors. Thank you.
Right now, you didn’t know why you ever thought that getting out today was a bad idea. Sure, it was kinda against the rules and there was a long list of reasons as to why it was against the rules, but seeing the two armored clones dangling upside down meters above the ground, their limbs entangled in the thick lianas, their whines reaching your ears, you quickly forgot all the consequences that were waiting for you if you got caught. This was worth any forced work and fine thrown at you.
You stood there, a hand over your mouth to keep yourself from exploding into a fit of laughter, hidden on a large tree branch above the two soldiers. You listened to them insulting the foliage and thrashing around like it would change something. Clearly, they’ve never come to your planet before, or else they would know that the more they moved the lianas would squeeze them tighter into their grips.
Despite your amusement at their expense, you kept an eye out for any predator lurking around. It would definitely darken your day if they were to be attacked. But then again, Murphy day spared no one. Your hand wrapped around your hunting knife, its carved wooden handle reassuring you that you weren’t defenseless and that luck was on your side.
You ducked under an enormous leaf when you registered a movement in the corner of your eye, but not before making sure that it wasn’t a loth wolf or something more unfriendly. It definitely wasn’t a loth wolf, but you weren’t sure if they were friendly. One of the two new clones was way too big for your liking and the custom paint of his helmet didn’t put you in confidence, as opposed to the one with the glasses.
“Sorry for the wait Sarge!” A booming voice almost made you jump and lose your balance on the branch. “We got lost for a bit there!”
“At least you made it. Now get us out of here. Being upside down is giving me a headache and I can't concentrate.” The trooper with the half black, half white helmet answered, wriggling around to try and see the newcomers. “Those things can’t be cut.”
You smiled to yourself, the voice of your dad echoing in your mind. A sharp knife will not always help you. But a sharp mind will. And so, you chuckled silently to yourself, before sitting on the branch, your back to the trunk and head tilting to the side so you could keep sight on the bunch of soldiers.
One of them walked forward while typing on something on his wrist rapidly, the bigger one following suit.
“Tech, how do we get them down?”
“Genlisea filiformis is a carnivorous plant-”
“A what?!” The second one that dropped the sniper rifle earlier yelled. You rolled your eyes at his panic.
“A carnivorous plant, Crosshair. Now stop moving. The lianas will continue tightening every time you move.” His head moved slightly from side to side, seemingly reading. “Oh, this is interesting. They eat their prey by dissolving the flesh with an acid oozing from the lianas. Now, you guys should be okay with your composite armor. Don’t worry.”
You snorted, a bit too loudly. Your hands flew to your mouth, whilst the rest of your body froze in fear that someone heard. Against all odds, you were still off the radar, your sound escaping them completely under Sarge's grunts of pain and the insults of the slim guy who you assumed was Crosshair.
“All we have to do is to find the head of the plant. The weak point of the lianas is at the base of the head, where the lianas start.”
As he finished his sentence, you pushed the leaf covering you aside so you could be at the front row of their realization. This was going to be gold.
“Hear that Sarge? We just need t-” His voice stopped as soon as he tried to take a step forward, his feet stuck under 15 cm of the stickiest artificial resin found on this planet.
Just to make it better, his companion spotted the head of the plant and with all his determination behind his step, he tried to lift his foot, only to lose balance when it didn't move an inch and fell on his hands in the resin.
That's when your laughter erupted, loud enough to cover the whines of the smallest soldier, bouncing between the trees and stopping each Bad Batcher's heart in surprise. Tears quickly gathered in your eyes, almost making you fall off your safe spot when you lifted your hand to wipe away the droplets.
"You! Get down here!" Sarge barked, causing you to chuckle as your laughter died down.
"Are your panties in a twist, Sarge? Did one of the lianas get in there?" You sassed, putting your knife back in the side pocket of your boot and carefully jumping down your branch to another one below.
You made your way towards them, moving from tree to tree, avoiding any liana that was courageous enough to grow that far away from its roots and stopped just where the branches ended and the mess of lianas started.
"Hey there!" You smirked, waving innocently at the upside down trooper two meters away from you.
"Get us down." Growled Crosshair.
"Oh sure. I love helping people who are as abrasive as sandpaper." You tilted your head to the side, putting on your best innocent expression.
Once again, he trashed around, surely trying to get a hand free so he could grab… something? You were too far off his reach so he couldn't possibly want to grab you. Maybe a blaster? Unfortunately for him, you saw them fall on the ground earlier.
"Listen. I-" His grunt of pain made you frown in concern. Your father always told you that you were way too empathetic for this big bad world. "We need help. Please." He sounded out of breath and it was more than you needed to get working.
With a nod, you walked the length of your perch, jumped in another tree, climbed down to the jungle floor and avoided every puddle of resin the kids of the village had dropped around to prank passers by.
"She's good." The booming voice surprised you again.
"She's native and knows what she's doing." You said, putting on your gloves and reaching for your knife. "Ready?"
The two suspended clones grunted in approval.
You made sure they wouldn't fall head first in the resin and with a few quick motions, you slashed the head off the rest of its body, sticky pale green juices oozed from the cuts and created a small film of smoke where it touched the blade.
Two yelps reached your ears, but you couldn't care much, instead you jumped to the nearest patch of grass where you removed most of the acid from the smoking blade.
"Are you alright?" At the question, you turned to assess if one of them broke their neck in the fall. For once, luck seemed to be on their side as they were both seating on their ass, helmets off massaging their heads where you were sure they could feel their heartbeat.
"'m fine Tech." Sarge answered. He looked worse than his sniper friend, who glared at you when he felt your eyes on him.
"You trapped us." He accused, getting on his feet to make his way towards you.
"What? No!" Jumping backward to avoid his hand, you tumbled to the ground but quickly rolled over to get back on your two feet. "Don't touch me!" You yelled, still avoiding his attempts at grabbing you. You didn't want to threaten him with a knife because you were sure to lose and he would touch you, but your mind did think about it.
"Crosshair." Sarge barked, calling back his sandpaper soldier.
If possible, the grey haired clone's glare intensified, burning a hole into your head, freezing you in place. Damn was he scary. You almost regretted cutting the lianas.
"Won't hurt you." He muttered, still glaring.
"Says you." You circled around him so you could go back to the rest of the clones, more importantly closer to Sarge who seemed more reasonable. You positionned yourself behind him, you know, just to be sure.
"Can you get them out too?" Sarge asked you over his shoulder, giving you a perfect view of his tattoo. You were impressed. Never did you think that a facial tattoo could look so good on someone. Seemed like you were wrong. So so very wrong.
You nodded. "On one condition."
Frowning, he turned around to face you completely.
"What?"
I wanna touch your tattoo.
"No one touches me." His eyebrow shot up in an inquisitive manner and oh damn you wanted to touch the dark ink.
"We won't hurt you." He reiterated Crosshair's words. You shook your head.
"Not like that. I don't want your bad luck on me. Because clearly, you guys" You gestured around them with your both hands. "emanate bad luck." Your hands fall to your side. "The baddest bad luck I've seen in my life."
"We don't have bad luck! We are lucky! We have a 100% success rate!" Bigger guy in the resin barked before laughing.
"100% success rate eh? That's bad luck." You took a step back for your sake. Too much success always bite you in the arse one day. Looked like their elastic broke today. Lucky them.
"You know that superstitions are not true, right? It's irrational." Smaller dude who removed his gloves to stand told you. Tech, if you heard right.
Wait. What?
"Do you guys know what planet you're on?" You were baffled by the lack of knowledge they had on your planet. For sure, you would have thought that they would get as much information on a planet before getting there and running around?
"Fors. A jungle planet of the Outer Rim. Rich in resources but not exploited because of the thick and dangerous flora."
You nodded. "So you should know that here, what you all call superstitions are the real deal, right?" Your eyes found Sarge's brown one and you sigh at the lack of recognition. "Ok. If I were you, I'd get away from Fors real' quickly. You're all wearing black which represents death and your perfect success rate very probably attracted the curse of evil eye on y'all. Plus, we are today."
You walked to a nearby tree, crouched to search the ground around its roots for a particular cavity.
"What's wrong with today?" Sarge finally got on his feet, fetching his fallen blaster in a bush.
"Today's Murphy day. The 13th day of the month. Usually there's a good balance between luck and bad luck. But today, it's only bad luck. Laws forbid anyone on the planet to get out of their home for the whole day to prevent accidents and other stuff."
After your third tree, you found the hole you were looking for. Without a thought, you stuck your hand in the hole, searching around for the container the kids always leave near the traps.
"So you're breaking the law." Crosshair pointed out, to your exasperation.
"Exactly. But I don't intend to get caught so I should be fine." You huffed. "Thank you."
"You don't seem affected by bad luck." Tech quirked.
"Knock on wood!" You said while knocking the trunk of the tree you were searching.
Your hand found the bottle and pulled it out with a victory cry, the dark blue liquid shining in the sun like the night sky illuminated by its stars. You grinned, shaking the bottle.
"Now, do we have a deal? Keep your hands to yourselves and I free the two remaining dudes from the kids' trap."
With his hands slightly in the hair, Sarge nodded. "We won't touch you. Go ahead."
"Okay! Let's do this." Taking a deep breath, you opened the lid and dropped half the bottle at the big one's feet, the other half on Tech’s.
The resin started dissolving on itself at the liquid's contact, freeing the troopers in under a minute. You backed off so they had room to join the rest of their squad. At a good distance, you allowed yourself to breathe again.
"Thanks miss! I'm Wrecker." The biggest guy lifted his helmet a bit so he could wear it as a hat, a smile almost splitting his face in half. You immediately noted the scar on the side of his face as well as the cybernetic eye, but something inside your mind told you he wasn't as bad as you initially thought. He seemed too childish to be bad.
"Nice to meet you Wrecker. The name's Y/N." You waved with a smile of your own.
"I'm Tech." He removed his helmet, a smile of his own curving his lips. The name definitely suited him to a T. You waved back.
"Sarge and Crosshair, right?" You asked, pointing to the remaining ones.
"Sergent Hunter." He corrected as the other merely grunted in response. "Thank you for helping us." It wasn't a complete smile, but the corners of his lips perked up so you'll take it.
"You're all very much welcome. I hope you all get back safely to your ship!" You put back your knife in its pocket and turned around to climb back into the tree next to you. You jumped to the closest thick branch, used your strong arms to pull you up on it and stand without much of a problem. You climbed a bit more until you found a branch big enough to walk its length.
"Have a nice Murphy day and good lu-" The words died in your throat, instead morphing into a surprised yelp when your foot didn’t quite go where you wanted it to and caught in a tiny branch that totally refused to break, interfering with your balance. Your hands flew to your face to protect yourself from the smaller branches and leaves scratching at your skin, a quick peek informed you that the ground was coming way too quickly for your liking, your eyes closed in anticipation of the inevitable face plant impact.
The pain wasn’t quite as you imagined, instead of hurting your front, hands, face and very possibly your spine, strong arms caught you in the air, the abrupt stop causing you to hit your chin onto a hard piece of armor, clattering your teeth together in the process. Thank the Maker, you didn’t bite your tongue off.
Confused, hurt and out of breath, you tried to comprehend what happened by looking around at the best of your capacity, being trapped between two arms as large as trunks. Concerned mismatched eyes met yours, seconds before the ground finally touched your feet delicately. Your eyes went wide as soon as your brain finally registered what happened and who cushioned your fall, panic making you push the large chest away from you so suddenly that you fell on your behind in a patch of tall grass. Wrecker tried to catch you in your fall again, missing your arm from an inch.
“You okay?” He retracted his arms and stood tall again, Tech and Hunter approaching behind him, concern written all over their faces.
“Yeah”. You sighed, letting your head roll backwards. Shooking your head, you watched the treetops, all the leaves and mazes of branches, the rare brave birds still watching you from above. Maybe they had the answer as to how you could survive this day. “Thanks for catching me Wrecker.” One of your hands massaged your aching chin.
“No problem Y/N!” His smile came back as soon as he was certain that you were fine, although it was short lived because you soon let yourself fall onto your back in defeat.
“This day starts so badly.” You muttered. You remember leaving your home at 6, early enough that a very few people were awake, but late enough so you could use the first rays of the sun to guide yourself. “I should’ve stayed home.” You snorted. “I’ll probably die from something very stupid.”
“Well, if you hadn’t come out today, we would still be trapped, so the least we could do is help you survive the day. How does that sound?” Hunter’s gravelly voice almost made you shiver.
You shot back up, immediately extending a hand toward the Sergeant from your seated position. “Very fair. Deal.”
With a nod, he grabbed your hand and pulled you up to your feet. Maybe he was used to pulling up his brothers or he simply miscalculated, but the amount of force behind his pull was unnecessary, propelling you right into his armored chest where you hit your face.
You yelped in pain, hands reaching for your nose in a hurry. No blood. No broken bone. You sighed in relief.
“Sorry for that.” He seemed so confused it was almost hilarious. You definitely would have laughed if only your nose wasn’t ready to explode.
“It’s fine. ‘s not your fault. It’s today! You lose control of yourself a little and end up creating accidents all around you.” With a last check up that your nose wasn’t bleeding, you took a step aside to create a bit of space between you and the rest of them. “So, where’s your ship?”
“Latitude 45.400972. Longitude -75.79851.” Tech answered while typing on the screen on his wrist.
You were deeply confused despite having completed all mandatory classes in your village school. He was speaking a whole different language, you were sure of it. Did clones have a language? They were the first ones you ever encountered, not a lot of people liked to venture out into the Outer Rim where the planets weren’t very significant to anyone. Now that you thought about it, you’d love to see a battle on Murphy day. You were sure it would be catastrophingly funny to watch. Minus the fact that people would really die. Okay. Not so fun after all.
“About an hour of walk this way.” Tech clarified, his eyes scanning your too deeply thinking face.
“Okay!” You turned in the direction he pointed and started walking, jumping over the resin puddles. "You made it this far, I'm sure we can all make it back there without dying on the way!" You said, crossing your fingers.
"Stop talking." Crosshair growled beneath his helmet.
Duly noted. At the rhythm the day was going, you knew he'd regret his comment at some point. All you had to do was wait. So with the fakest smile you've ever had to use on your face, you turned around quickly and mimed to zip your lips before turning back around to watch your steps.
Maybe it was a bad idea to follow them. You didn't know them until 10 minutes ago, they were four trained soldiers with blasters and military training, three seemed friendly enough and the last one was as cuddly as a porcupine. On your end, all you had to rely on was your excellent knowledge of the environment, your hunting knife and your precious tap.
You tapped your pants pocket to ensure that it was still in your possession when quick steps alerted you of a clone keeping you company.
"Don't listen to him. I'd love to know why luck has that much importance on this planet." Tech joined you at the front, helmet back on his head. "If you don't mind." He added when he met your questioning gaze.
"People really don't know much about us, do they?"
You didn't blame them though. Who would want to venture on a planet where you didn't have the power over yourself, but something as volatile as luck did?
"I'm afraid there aren't much more information on Fors other than datas about the minerals that can be found in underground caves."
"I'm not surprised." You scoffed. Your planet was extremely rich in precious minerals that the republic and the separatists would love to have to help found their war expenses, if it wasn't of the dangers passing as defenceless flora, adorable killing creatures and bewitching deadly smells.
"Okay. Where to start…" You taped your chin, disentangling the different events and remembering your history classes. "You see, Fors is alive, like any other planet, but the difference is that it feeds on beliefs. It eh… apparently it's a field cast a very long time ago that enveloppe the planet and would cause all the luck, bad luck stuff."
Your hand shot up to push back against Tech's chest just as he was about to step in a prank trap, falling in with him anyway when he tripped on his own feet. With a yelp, your other hand flew out, wrapping tightly around the first thing available, meaning nothing.
Fortunately for you, Tech fell first into the phosphorescent mixture, saving your front from a disastrous quantity of disgusting liquids to come in contact with your body. You got away with only your pants in the mixture, so all in all, this was a good outcome. Although, with a silent gag, you hurriedly pushed yourself off the completely covered clone, away from the nasty smell and the oily prank.
"What is in that? And why is there so many traps here!?" Tech yelped indignantly once he was on his feet, removing the most of the pale yellow thing out of his glasses.
"Believe me, you really don't want to know what's in there. And for your second question, the kids love to trap strangers!" You pulled on a big leaf behind Hunter who dodged out of your way so you could remove a layer of the substance from your pants.
"What's in that?" Whispered Hunter once he moved to your side, slightly bending to be closer to your ear. Wrecker's roaring laugh drowning his smaller brother's curses.
"Phosphorescent bird poo mixed with loth wolf puke." You snickered. Poor Tech. It would have been much more hilarious would it have been the glaring tooth prick who fell in the trap. On the bright side, predators should stay away from your little group now.
"R.I.P." You finally exploded in laughter.
This was going to be the best yet the worst day of your life!

looking for love.
[ read devil in a new suit ]
pairing. jjk x f!reader. rating. general. tags. none. kook’s just real cute, as per usual. wc. 1.5k. author note. @lcksndkys requested this and also, i just reaaaally wanted to make an edit showing kook’s tinder. lmao.
“Isn’t Tinder for, y’know, hookups?”
The question comes casual, innocent, with that round stare that always catches you off guard. If it were anyone else, you’d probably tear into him - berate him for his dated ideas of love.
Instead, you quirk a brow and roll your eyes, tossing a wayward crumb at him. Your companion huffs, indignant and yet still soft, mouth curling into the pout he always does when he’s embarrassed or put-off. Tattooed hands sweep across the front of his shirt, plucking the lint away to return the fabric to immaculate neatness.
“Is there something wrong with hookups, Jungkookie?” You’re daring him to voice his opinion, surprise you with whatever antiquated reasoning he has.
But of course, because he’s Jungkook, he’s too tender, too nice. His brow furrows, fingers knotting together as he finds his words. “I just— I just don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea.” Broad shoulders roll, dislodge the lime cotton of his plaid from the mountainous frame of his body. When he speaks, he won’t quite meet your stare - of course - opting instead to focus on the lacquered wood grain of his coffee table. “Don’t want anyone getting hurt.”
It’s not what you’d expected - the farthest thing from the usual slut-shaming you tend to hear - but you’re not surprised. Can’t be, honestly.
“Baby.”
Jungkook’s head snaps up, big doe eyes bouncing to yours with a mixture of aghast and confusion. You’ve never used a pet name with him. You’ve barely been friends for a month. He’s about to rebuff you - or ask or dp something - when you cut him off.
“As in, you’re being a baby.”
You do take a little pride in how his expression breaks apart, crashes into a barricade of your words. He’s just so easy to tease, makes you laugh full-belly and unabashed when his ears tip red and the same colour ascends up the column of his throat.
(It’s always very cute, reminiscent of schoolyard teasing between friends. You’re careful never to dig too deeply, though. You don’t want any scars left behind, no gravel when he slips and falls.)
“I’m just being—”
“A baby.”
He huffs, scoffs, makes a bunch of noise that doesn’t amount to very much. Then he slips his phone out of his pocket and sets it between you, laid on the glass top of his coffee table. An offering - or a reluctant acceptance, if his expression is anything to go by.
“Fine. Go ahead.” Even as he speaks, it takes a moment for his hand to retract, fist itself back between his crossed legs.
“Passcode,” you prompt, tapping the screen with a neatly manicured nail.
He enters it. 0127. (A date?) As if he can read your mind: “It’s my mom’s birthday.” Of course it is.
You only shake your head, laughing sweetly. “Very on brand.” You don’t mean it harshly. Family’s important to you, and if his standing Sunday meals with his own are any indication, they are to him too.
“We’ll start with Tinder and see how that goes. I think you might have better luck on Bumble but…” It’s a sideways glance, peeked out from beneath the cascading curtain of hair that falls over your shoulder. You’re so shy is what you don’t say. You don’t want to discourage him when it’s taken you an entire month to get him to accept your help in the first place.
“But I’m a baby?” Luckily, Jungkook’s a good sport. (You’ve learnt that over the weeks. Sandwiched in between his bashfulness and his bunny smile, there’s a warmth he never seems to tamper down. That he has no interest in changing. You envy him that, at least a little bit.)
Rather than answer, you shrug, apologetic smile forming tiny and private across your lips.
He, for all his differences from you, gets what you mean. He doesn’t hold it against you.
“Okay, so—” You scoot closer - the edge of your baby toe brushes the soft soft soft material of his trousers - and you extend the phone between you. “You need to choose some photos you like. I’m not going to do it for you but I’ll help you narrow them down.”
You have a feeling he’ll need the help but you don’t necessarily want to force your own preferences on him. Compromise seems important when navigating the whole signing-your-friend-up-for-a-dating-app thing.
“Just any photos?” The iPhone looks so much smaller in his hands, thumb swiping through his photo library. (You can already tell you’re going to disagree on which pictures go up. Can feel it in your bones, tingling the tips of your fingers.)
“Yep. Just any.” You do your best not to backseat pick, leaning away from him as he continues with his selections. He’s already picked six of them. (Six? Six?! Who does he think he is— Brad Pitt?)
“Here.”
All at once, the device is back in your hands or rather, tossed in your lap. Less ceremonious than usual, decidedly more nervous. You want to tease him for this, too, but don’t. Bite back the mockery and swallow it down, focusing instead on the profile that glares back up at you.
Okay, so, not awful choices. There are at least two you insist upon: one with his tattoos on display and another in a pool. Both thirst traps in their own regard.
“I really like this—” You’re moving the photo to the first spot. “You look really good and it’s a clear photo, so no one’s going to think you’re catfishing.”
Jungkook blinks - channels Bambi the baby deer - and cocks his head. “Do people actually do that?”
You don’t mean to sound so exasperated. Really, you don’t. He’s just so… him. “All the time. Or they use really edited photos. Ones you can’t really see their faces in.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah, exactly.” You almost pat him on the head. “Let’s use this one too.”
His response is immediate, as is the colour that presents itself across his neck, up over the apples of his cheeks. “I’d rather not.”
“Why’d you pick it then?”
“W-well—” You don't know how honest he’s being, whether he really doesn’t want to use it or if he’s afraid of being that guy. You’d bet good money it’s the latter. “Just—” You’re staring at him and he can’t look away. You can see how badly he wants to by how hard he’s biting his cheek, hollow formed by the motion. “Can we please pick something else?”
You relent with a huff, removing the pool photo from the running. “Fine.”
He’s trying to fix you with that awkward smile of his but you steadfastly ignore him. (He does it often, any time you have any sort of disagreement. It’s utterly unfair how well it works on you when you’d much rather just continue to give him a hard time.)
“Okay, what’s with all the group photos?” You count at least three and while he, admittedly, looks really good, it seems like overkill. “We’re trying to find you a girlfriend, not your friends.”
The poor boy’s perplexed, brow furrowing. “But they’re my friends.”
“And?”
“They’re a part of my life?”
“Okay and?”
“Can you stop doing that?”
“No.”
You’re both glaring at each other. It’s like siblings bickering (or an old married couple).
“You can keep one.” You’re being lenient, you think. “You don’t want to detract from you just so you can include your friends.” (And also, like, who cares. As a former Tinder user, one of your biggest pet peeves had been people who messaged you about your friends.)
“Fine.” Of course, he’s pouting. You don’t care.
“Let’s go with these three.” The screen is tilted toward him - not offered enough that he can snatch it away - but so he can see. You’re running this show, after all.
“Deal.”
“Wait, are these from the same day? That’s kind of—”
Jungkook wails a noise you’ve never heard before, equal parts faux frustration and amused desperation. It screws up his nose and makes little crow’s feet appear at the corners of his eyes. “Stoooop, please.”
Now it’s your turn to huff.
“What else do I need?”
“A bio.”
The last thing you expect is for him to pull his phone from your grasp, as if he’s been waiting for this moment all afternoon. (Maybe he really had wanted to join Tinder? Had you been hoodwinked? Bamboozled? Had Jeon Jungkook played you like a fiddle?)
Something like disbelief colours your expression when he presents his cool new bio to you, the absolute dumbest smile on his face. Reading it flips your features and rearranges them into a mask of shock. (That and disdain. It’s not a bad bio, per se, but it’s—
Well, it does fit Jungkook. You can’t deny that.)
“Nice guy with nice dreams it is.”

Summary: Hardin leaves reader for Tessa and reader calls Zed to help her.
Warnings: Slut-shaming, swearing
A/N: I didn’t list pairing, because I don’t want to give anything away. Also I will publish a part 3 in the next couple of days, so I hope you’re ready.
Tagging: @justyouraveragedorkygirl
READ PART 1 READ PART 3 READ PART 4 READ EPILOGUE
The drive to Zed’s place is quiet leaving you to be suffocated by your thoughts. At some point, Zed reached over to grab hold of your hand and now you’re clinging onto it like a lifeline. How is it possible to exist when your heart has decided to stop beating? It’s as if you feel nothing but pain anymore. Pain and anger towards Hardin for staying when he didn’t want to. For going behind your back and confirming all your insecurities. Molly had been right that day; he wasn’t your Hardin anymore, he was Tessa’s. And it broke you.
“Drink some water.” You’re sitting in Zed’s apartment with no idea how you got from the car and inside. You accept the glass of water but make no effort to drink it.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asks earning nothing but silence from you. Somewhere in your brain you register his concern but right now you can’t focus on anything other than your breathing. Grief has paralysed you in the worst way possible and you hate it. You hate how weak you’ve turned over a silly boy.
“Say something so I know you’re still there,” Zed says trying to lighten the mood.
“Tessa,” you rasp hoping it’ll explain your behaviour, hoping that he’ll put the pieces together and understand what’s happened. Understand why you’ve fallen apart.
“Please tell me he didn’t.” You nod your head and Zed stops talking because he knows the kind of pain you’re in and he knows you need to process this slowly. So you sit there for a long time before you finally look over at Zed. He’s there and he’s ready to listen but you don’t want to talk. You want to do something that will help absolutely nothing and you’ll cry about tomorrow but you’re not thinking clearly as you crawl over to sit on his lap.
“Make me forget him.” It’s cruel really because you know he’s had a crush on you since you started college but the world is cruel and you just don’t have it in you to think about feelings that aren’t your own right now.
“Y/N, I can’t.” It’s meant as a rejection but he doesn’t mean it. You can tell that he wants this to be true and real. He wants you to want him the way he’s wanted you for such a long time but now you’re this broken puzzle that might be too hard to solve.
“Please.” The word comes out as a whimper and if you’d been more coherent you’d probably be mortified by how pathetic you’re acting right now. But you’re not and Zed is fighting a losing battle.
“I want this to be real, Y/N. I want to make you feel safe, but not like this. I don’t want to be second best to him.” He’s speaking faster than normal trying to get his point across before this goes too far. You’re kissing his neck and ignoring every word he’s saying. As you grind your hips, you feel him move beneath you.
“Hardin will kill me for this,” he says and the name brings you back to Zed’s apartment. You scramble off of him instead sitting as far away as the sofa lets you.
“I’m sorry,” you say not ready to realise how close you came to ruining your friendship with Zed.
“I get it. I’m a safe option.” His eyes refuse to meet yours but you both know it’s the truth. Through everything Zed has been a safe habor that you’ve turned to over and over whenever you and Hardin argued. It’s not been fair on Zed but you haven’t known how to stop searching for him. He’s your best friend but he’ll never be more. It hurts to know that you can’t give him what he wants.
“You’re not an option, Zed. You’re my best friend. You’re the person I need.”
“But not the person you want,” he interrupts. There are no words that could help him right now so you reach over and take his hand in yours the way he did in the car. It’s support and love even if it’s not the love he want. In a perfect world, you’d want Zed. The two of you would get married after college and have kids at 30 when you’ve both had time to live your own lives. But it’s not a perfect world and you don’t want Zed like that. So instead the two of you sit together holding hands as your hearts are breaking fast and slow all at the same time.
It takes you two weeks before you’re ready to return to campus. Zed lets you crash at his place because first and foremost you’re best friends and this is what best friends do for each other. And you both know that Hardin will show up at your apartment to see you.
“Are you sure you’re ready?” he asks as you’re turning a corner.
“I don’t know. I’m scared I’ll meet him but I also want to see him. Does that make sense?” Your faithful companion just nods knowingly as he always does. There’s an unspoken understanding between the two of you and it’s been the only thing keeping you sane.
“I’ll meet you after first period, okay? Wait for me.” He kisses your forehead softly before leaving for his morning classes. As he turns around, his face connects with Hardin’s fist.
“What the hell is this?” he yells looking over at you. There’s an anger in his eyes that you’ve never seen before. He looks good, even had the time to add a tattoo to his sleeve. It pisses you off that she was probably holding his hand while he got it.
“Walk away, Hardin.” You’re so mad you’re shaking but you just don’t have it in you to have a screaming match with Hardin right now. Instead you turn your focus to Zed who’s slowly getting back on his feet.
“Are you okay?” Zed nods and wipes a little blood from his nose before coming over to stand next to you - loyal to the bitter end.
“Are you seriously with him now? Didn’t take you long to replace me!” He spits out the words and you can tell he’s hoping they’ll break you all over. Hardin is nothing but not persistent in his methods.
“What I do is none of your concern anymore, Hardin. You made sure of that yourself.”
“I’d dumped you sooner if I’d known you were such a whore.” It’s like you’re standing on the other side of the road observing it all from a distance. His words are meant to cut you like knives but you just feel empty. These last couple of weeks have drained you and now you have nothing left to give. Why he’s even bothered now that he has Tessa is a question you have no answer for. You’d figured he would be too busy with her to even notice you.
“Don’t talk to her like that!” Zed intercepts ready to fight Hardin right then and there but you spot security slowly walking towards the three of you. Hardin is once again making quite a scene but you and Zed don’t have the same kind of protection from the Chancellor that Hardin does. You can’t risk getting caught up in this.
“You already broke me, Hardin. I have nothing left for you to take so please just go back to Tessa.” Without another word you take Zed’s hand and leads the two of you away from college not even caring how it looks to Hardin. You’ll have to miss another day. You can’t face those hallways again - they hold all the small touches and sweet nothings shared between you and Hardin.
“I’m transferring,” you tell Zed as you’re approaching his car. You haven’t thought about it before but after seeing Hardin you’ve realised that it’s too much for you. The college holds too much for you to face it again. The kind of heartbreak Hardin caused you is something that time won’t mend.
“Me too. I don’t want to see his face ever again.” You look over at Zed and realises that you’re not the only one Hardin’s hurt. You remember his last relationship that Hardin turned into a game.
“Where should we go?” you ask.
“Seattle? I’ve always wanted to go there.” And just like that it’s decided. Of course there’s all the paper work when you decide to switch school in the middle of a semester, but you both manage to transfer within a month. You find a crappy apartment not too far from campus. Even though you’re both thinking about it, none of you mention Hardin again. You apply for intern jobs and even manages to get an interview at Vance Publishing. It’s a new branch but you already know the company. It’s the one Hardin left right after first semester but for once the reminder of Hardin doesn’t cut your heart. So when you’re standing in front of the huge building Wednesday afternoon, you can actually breathe.
“Hold the elevator!” you yell walking faster. Thankfully, the guy in the elevator holds the door for you.
“Thank you.” He smiles as you walk past him into the elevator.
“Are you new here?” he asks pressing the button for the 3rd floor.
“I’m here for an interview,” you reply and take a second to look at him. He’s pretty. A cute smile and judging by his vibe and choice of clothes definitely no tattoos. He’s nothing like your usual type and definitely nothing like Hardin. Something about that draws you in.
“Oh, I hope you get it then.” It’s a sweet thing to say really and it calms your nerves.
“Thank you.” The elevator opens and he steps out. The moment gone.
“I’m Trevor by the way. I hope to see you around.”

Hi fellow Gryffindor! Hope you're read for:
Not Yet Wed Questions
Note: Great Scott! This week, we are going back in time to MC’s intern year. Think of Ethan’s relationship with them at this point and answer the following questions accordingly. It is entirely up to you when in year 1 this takes place (pre/post Miami, pre/post CH 15, etc). Feel free to answer with dialogue or pictures or both :) Have fun!
No worries. All of this is off the record and HR will never know!
The setting for this answers is:
For Both
When I first saw them, I thought__________
What is your coworker's most used swear word?
Quick: What color are their eyes?
Three people at work your coworker hates?
What is your coworker’s strangest or most endearing quirk?
If they had a crush on anyone at work, who would that be?
(Bonus round! Feel free to skip.)
Never have I Ever:
come into work hungover
had a fistfight
been kicked out of a bar
gotten a tattoo
broken someone’s heart
been in love
For MC (Ethan is not there)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
What do you find the most impressive about him?
Last thing he texted you?
If he asked you out on a date, what would you say?
For Ethan (MC is not there)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
What specifically do you find attractive about her?
Last thing she texted you?
If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?
Ahh my favorite time of the week again. Also on a side note these questions are brilliant.
I am sorry for being late, my school thinks it's okay to torture seventeen year olds, smh
(Ignore if there are any typos, I am sleep deprived)
Previous Interviews
The setting for these answers is: Two days before they leave for Miami. Diana already knows about Naveen and as an extra context, they now spend time together at his apartment or at Derry Roasters to discuss Naveen's case and both of them (grudgingly in Ethan's case) call each other ahem...."friends"
-----------------
[Two people make their way towards the busy little coffee shop down the street from the hospital, the man furtively looking over his shoulder, as if scared of being spotted, the woman, sensing her companion's distress, puts a tentative hand on his arm, which visibly seems to calm him somewhat. He sends a grateful smile her way.]
ETHAN : We are both busy doctors rookie, why are we supposed to do this—interview?
DIANA : It won't take long, plus we are already waiting for the test results for Doct- umm our patient.
ETHAN : Well if it will stop you from talking my ear off.
DIANA : (Says nothing just smiles)
(FOR BOTH)
When I first saw them, I thought ________
Diana : Actually the first time we met it was kinda in the midst of an emergency, so I didn't get much time to form an impression but once he left I thought he was a (glances towards Ethan, then says in a rush) handsome asshole.
Ethan : Excuse me, what?
Diana : Well after I helped save the woman you told me that it was incredible I didn't kill her, forgive me if I can't think that you were an asshole.
Ethan : (a little flustered) That's not what I said excuse me fo- never mind, I thought she wasn't completely incompetent for an intern and also that she's quite bold.
Di : "Bold" ?
E : Yes, you tried to flirt with me.
Di : Oh that was before I knew who you were.
What is your coworker's most used swear word?
Ethan : She alternates between Shit and Fuck
Diana : Goddamnit and Fuck
Quick: What color are their eyes?
Diana : Blue, a bright clear blue.... umm it's quite noticeable when someone chews you out every other day.
Ethan : Dark brown that appears almost black at times.
Diana : (mutters)I am surprised he can see my eyes from his giraffe height
Ethan : glares at her
Diana : What? Oh did I say that out loud? Umm well it's true (shrugs)
Three people at work your coworker hates?
Diana : (giggling) I think it's easier to tell you about three people he doesn't hate, he hates everyone except Dr. Banerjee, Dr. Emery both of whom he respects and well me.
Ethan : (a rare smile playing in his lips) who said anything about not hating you Rookie?
Diana : Because you are my partner in crime and I think we are friends.
Ethan : "partner in crime"?
Diana : Yes we go to burning buildings together and anyways deny as much as you want, you don't hate me.
Ethan : (softly) I don't. (composing himself) In case of Dr. Ramirez, I don't think she can ever hate anyone, she herself says "I love everyone" I don't know how that's possible but she doesn't hate anyone at this place.
What is your coworker’s strangest or most endearing quirk?
Diana : Definitely pinching the bridge of his nose thing, I once tried counting how many times he did it while morning rounds, it was exactly 17 times in two hours.
Ethan : Not my fault most interns are utterly hopeless. In Diana's case it's forgetting a hair tie every day and using a pen or a pencil to keep her hair up.
Di : This irritates him so much that he keeps a spare tie in his office now.
Ethan : I don't know why I put up with these habits (pinches the bridge of his nose)
If they had a crush on anyone at work, who would that be?
Diana : (in an uncanny imitation of Ethan's gruff voice) It's beyond me to have juvenile emotions such as a crush, it's mostly a result of continued exposure to the person for a long time anyways.
Ethan : What- I don't sound like that
Diana : You do!
Ethan : For her it might be one of her friends, they seem quite enamored by her.
Di : My friends....nah! It's someone else
E : Who else do you spend time with to have a crush on?
Di : A girl's gotta have some secrets. (muttering so softly that Ethan doesn't hear it) how much more oblivious can a man be?
(NEVER HAVE I EVER ROUND)
Ethan : What is that?
Di : You drink if you have done said thing before, it's a classic drinking game.
E : I am not playing any such game.
Di : Come on we are already doing this.
E : *Grumbles in agreement*
come into work hungover
The iced coffee lies untouched before both of them.
Diana : We are responsible doctors.
had a fistfight
Both take a sip of their respective beverages.
Diana : Okay I'll go first, I once punched a guy in seventh grade because he was being obnoxious and then his other friends taunted him on being punched by a girl which hurt his male ego and he tried to fight back but some of our teachers spotted me dodging it and I escaped punishment because of my pristine record.
Ethan : Well, in our field there are many power hungry morons who deserve being punched.
been kicked out of a bar
Ethan takes another sip, Diana doesn't.
Diana : Okay dish
E : We all do regrettable things in our youth.
Di : Really, you won't tell us?
E : (grins) I am going for an air of mystery.
Di : Well it's working
(Both smile at each other, forgetting their surroundings for some time)
gotten a tattoo.
None of them drink.
Di : It hurts like hell so I am never getting one.
broken someone’s heart.
Di : Nah! I haven't. But Ethan you drink this time.
Ethan : Why?
Di : Honestly have you ever seen the way the nurses look at you?
Ethan : If you say so (takes a sip)
been in love
Ethan : Doesn't drink but all of a sudden he fixes his gaze at her almost involuntarily.
Di : (Drinks) I like to think I have been in love before.
Ethan : (trying to look as uninterested as possible) What changed?
Di : Well we broke up after around two yearsof dating.
Ethan : (doesn't say anything but looks visibly less tense)
Di : Oh we are out of coffee...
E : You sit here I'll place our orders.
Di : Thanks
(DIANA)
Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
Di : Professionally he'll most definitely contribute even more to the medical world, lead the Diagnostic Team like the best doctor he is. Personally, I dunno maybe he'll find someone, I hope he does, he needs someone to help and support him through his problem of shouldering every little thing.
What do you find the most impressive about him?
Diana : His passion for medicine obviously, you should see when he talks about medicine, it's so evident how much he loves what he does and also how much he cares despite the gruff exterior he puts on in front of everyone.
Last thing he texted you?
Diana : He hates texting, so I think his last text was, let me see (scrolls through her phone)
"We need to put ciprofloxacin in our list, can you do me a favor by adding it?"
It's uh about a case.
If he asked you out on a date, what would you say?
Diana : It's never going to happen, he's Ethan Ramsey and I am, well me, but if uh hypothetically he asked me out, I'd say yes immediately, hypothetically obviously.
(Ethan returns with the coffee, then looks at Di's flustered face)
Ethan : What were you talking about?
Diana : Uh nothing I was just - (her pager goes off) We have the test results, I'll go and bring those back in a few minutes.
(ETHAN)
Where do you see her in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)
Ethan : She'll be an amazing doctor obviously, maybe even with a spot on the diagnostic team. I suppose she won't hear this?
Interviewer : No, she won't.
Ethan : Personally, with someone who values her contribution to our sphere of work, I suppose.
What specifically do you find attractive about her?
Ethan : I really shouldn't be talking about this.
Interviewer : Don't worry, no one's hearing about this, it's just some extra information so that we know you better.
Ethan : She's an attractive woman obviously, but I think her smile, it's difficult to ignore and her eyes.
Last thing she texted you?
Ethan : "I AM DONE WITH MY PATIENTS🤩🥳"
"IT'S LIKE EVERYONE DECIDED TO BE SICK TODAY"
followed by a series of emoticons
"😣😖😫😩"
If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?
Ethan : I would have to turn her down, I am her boss.
(gazing wistfully at the street, eyes glued at Diana's approaching figure)
But perhaps in a different life I would have said yes.
Ethan : I think that's enough questions, she's here now and we have important matters at hand which require our attention.
