I'd like to hear about Jianhuren's relationship with the dragon god, vs Minglian's relationship with the dragon god!
@soulsxng || Ask my muse questions about their relationships || Accepting
I hope you don't mind if I answer this myself actually, because I think it might be a little clearer than having each of them speak on it! Plus, I'm able to offer more thoughts on it than they really have, for reasons discussed below.
The Red Eyes overall actually don't have that much of a relationship with the Dragon God! He creates/d them at the directive of the Jade Emperor so that they can serve the pantheon as a whole, but aside from that he has very little personal interactions with them. So out of the dragons, the only one that really has a relationship with him is actually Xiaodan due to him being a dragon that the Dragon God created that didn't have to do with anything regarding orders from the higher-ups at all.
He does care to an extent for the dragons, and along with Longmu (another goddess associated with dragons), they're kind of the only deities of the pantheon who advocate for the Red Eyes. They were the two who opposed stripping the Red Eyes of their emotions, not that it could amount to much in the end in the face of the Jade Emperor.
So, aside from when she was created and some other general meetings things, Minglian's never really spoken with him! So she doesn't have many thoughts on him since he's not really a figure in her life aside from being part of the gods she serves.
Jianhuren has interacted with him more on account of their longer life and being the first Red Eye, but even then they don't feel any particularly strong bond to him either.

Nico referring to his mom as "Mama" implies he most likely at least used to refer to Hades as "Papa" and i 100% headcanon he still does but mostly in the manner of him having the entire Underworld wrapped around his finger for being the baby of the family
#pjo#riordanverse#nico di angelo#headcanon#my art#nico flexing youngest child privilages by pulling out the most pitiful expression he can manage#anyways i find it fun to explore character word choices#cause yknow no two characters are going to select their words the same way#or even necessarily think about it to the same degree#i like to think Nico thinks about his word choice a lot#so of course every time he uses ''papa'' he fully knows he's pulling the Baby Of The Family card#Hades definitely knows this too but falls for it every time anyways#cause Nico hasnt called him ''papa'' regularly since getting his memory wiped - just detached ''father'' or at best ''dad''#so it just reminds Hades of How Much He Just Wants His Children To Be Happy Like The Old Days#and how much poor Nico has been through and he's just the baby of the family and-#cue Nico smugly staring at the camera cause he knows how much power he holds#also i say Nico is Hades' only son cause mythologically even when Zagreus *is* Hades' son (rarely) he's. dead.#a major part of Zagreus' mythology is that he died#and im p sure every other deity said to be Hades' children are all goddesses and also are like 50% of the time not his#theres also only like 3 of them. and as far as we know in riordanverse canon one of them is implied to not be his daughter#so Nico is Hades' only son and also youngest in the family (cause Hazel is older by a month chronologically or 1 year biologically)#(and everybody else is a deity if children of hades at all)

Apollo’s at his best when his speech patterns are “21yo college frat boy meets ye olde theatrical actor”. He responds with things like “But hark! Behold!” and “you should’ve been there, man. It totally rocked” in the same breath and kicks the fight or flight reflexes of every demigod in a mile radius into survival mode

sekuuti and akestur, deities of the rau-kakse and crakam
LONG ASS CREATION/ORIGIN STORY OF THE RAU KAKSE AND CRAKAM HERE
the sun and moon both have important roles in northern basilisk religion, and are interpreted as two deities: sekuuti (sun) and akestur (moon).
both seen as patron deities of their respective people (rau-kakse aka basilisks and crakam aka harpies). their eggs were originally stars in the sky that fell and hatched in the world below.
at first, there was only pure spirit. something known as "tukaarti" (which is an unconscious but all powerful driver of all things) - the "natural force", arose, and began create shapes from this spirit, polarities, warmth, energy eventually the forces shaped this spirit into The World, which was barren at first, amorphous, but this shaped energy began to solidify, first into mountains, then into lakes, rivers, flora etc etc. but the water did not stay liquid long for after the formation of these things, and a brief flourishing period, the World cooled down, and fell under a great winter, as it had no sun. the sky is basically where tukaarti resides in its rawest form still, and stars are "concerntrations" of it, and the only light source. the stars began to fall eventually on occasion into the world, and that would spawn Creatures. early on when the world was still fresh after this was when the eggs of sekuuti and akestur fell, they were among the last creatures to fall onto the world. prior to them similar animals had hatched from other eggs, but they all perished trying to survive on their own.
both sekuuti and akestur were lonely and struggled on their own - persecuted by hostile ancestors of other creatures. not only was it difficult, most of all, it was lonely.
sekuuti was so lonely that she desparately wanted children, but as she was the only one of her kind she prayed to tukaarti for a way to achieve that company she desired. she was heard, and granted the ability to shapeshift to any creature that she found. this also was something tukaarti needed, as it lacked a way for spirit to go from the World back to tukaarti, and by "collecting" bodies to learn as forms, sekuuti would also return their spirit to tukaarti. with this ability, she resorted to courting different birds that she transformed into and bearing their young. and she did successfully hatch them. her children would not only inherit a lot of her features and shapeshifting ability, but they also inherited the plumage and some other traits from their other parents, and she loved them all the same. this also means that according to rauk-kaksian lore sekuuti "has no comparison" and doesnt look like an extant bird in particular, but interpretations vary. these children were the first "rau-kakse". the most important established trait of her depictions though is that it seemed that the glow from her egg ("star") never faded, and her plumage glowed strongly and brilliantly.
akestur, meanwhile, sought company with birds in a different way. he found flocks of corvids, flocks of nightjars, and found certain comfort with them. but he was frustrated with the fact that they could not communicate, he prayed for the ability to "hold a conversation" with his new contemporaries. and the tukaarti granted him his wish - the flocks that he had become familiar with were granted a blessing, but with that blessing, they also changed in morphology - they became harpies (crakam), and gained sapience. he was reminded, however, that he had gotten this wish without cost - and that the forces counted on him to do what they wished in return if they so needed it. they only cryptically let him know to "not keep his eyes off of the flame". akestur is thought to have looked like a harpy slightly, but with a different face, black as night, but with brilliant glowing white eyes.
again, the world during this time was pretty barren and harsh due to an eternal winter, as they had no sun. sekuuti, while having found comfort in her kin now, was unhappy with the state of affairs - especially as many young would die in the harsh conditions. akestur, too, hated seeing his new contemporaries suffer.
the two groups would meet one day, sekuuti and akestur leading them. the two were fascinated by one another - sekuuti brought warmth to akestur and the crakam, while akestur brought a certain darkness, that while somewhat discomforting at first, also shrouded both groups from other hostile creatures, theyd come to find out. there was safety in his darkness. sekuuti and akestur grew very close and became partners (according to most legends).
sekuuti wanted to change the state of the world and set her eyes upon the sky, wanting to become a sun and bring warmth to all and end the eternal winter. akestur was hesitant, for he did not want to lose her, and her children needed her. when seeking the guidance of tukaarti - they discouraged her from it, urged her to stay and perform her duty as a bringer of spirit from corpses of this plane back to tukaarti. but she was insistent, and one day, decided to simply go for it. she flew so fast, with such force, that she caught flame, but her will was so strong that it didnt bother her and she became one with the flames eating her as she flew up to the sky.
akestur was too late, and only realised she was gone once she had lit up the sky. betrayed, upset, but most of all - realising that he had failed tukaarti. he had let his eyes off his flame. as a punishment, tukaarti undid the blessing it had granted his people for half of them, leaving half of them as regular birds again.
sekuuti lighting up the world had done something - it had taken away the eternal winter, but the problem was - sekuuti had nothing to temper her up there. the world was beset by a devastating drought with no end in sight. akestur, trying to lead his people as well as the basilisks, then realised what he had to do.
before leaving his people, he urged them "to not take their eyes off the flames", meaning the basilisks in this case, and then, he also set off for the sky. instead of setting ablaze, his eyes seemed to burst with the pressure of the speed of his flight, engulfing him in a cold, bright light. once he joined sekuuti in the sky - the heat was finally tempered.
however, sekuuti, both overwhelmed with love but also guilt and shame over abandoning akestur, fled him. but he, loyal and also overwhelmed with love, began to follow her. and basically, the day/night cycle is their eternal chase after one another - and on occasion, they meet, during eclipses :,) perhaps they also realised that their chase is what brings the world balance. and perhaps its a bit of a punishment from tuukarti for disobeying it.

Spellwork with Loki (An old post that rotted in my drafts for weeks)
Me: "Loki, are you sure you want to be the main power source for this spell? I feel bad asking that of you. At least let me give SOME of my energy?"
Loki: "Dude it's fine, it takes like no effort for me. Stop being afraid to ask for shit and just let me do this. You're not even asking, you're accepting an offer. I am ACTIVELY EXCITED for this spell let me do it."
Me, a few hours after the spell, faceplanted on my bed: ".... Thank you for being the main power source for that spell bc I don't think I even gave much energy, just primarily conducted yours, and I'm so fucking tired."
Loki: "And you still have part two! This is fun!" :D :D :D

Topics of Research (chain x reader)
This work is a part of my Hyrule Historian AU, for more information, check out my masterlist.
As a historian, you were well versed in what remained of Hyrule's history after the calamity scourged the land prior to your birth. You had studied almost every text and document you could get your hands on searching diligently for the answers to a question you never voiced aloud. You even asked the locals of different areas of Hyrule hoping on the off chance somehow someone somewhere still has some tribal knowledge left on the subject of your interest. However, no matter how hard you searched, you still had very little luck.
After the calamity, you scoured through the entirety of the library in Hyrule castle searching for something, anything that could lead you to even the faintest of clues regarding your search. But you found nothing, at least nothing you didn't already know. You pondered how something could manage to be completely wiped from history. It made you sad, you seemed like the only person in all of Hyrule who had even the faintest clue that this being even existed in the first place.
Wild had tried to help you, making sure you took breaks from the stacks of books covering your desk, he knew whatever you were looking for was important to you, even though he had no idea what that thing was. He tried asking you about it once, but you shrugged him off, claiming that he wouldn't understand even if you told him. You claimed that no one knew what you were looking for, but you remembered and that should have been enough right? But it wasn't your brain craved more.
Then you found yourself with the chain, ripped away from your research, but with a new opportunity in front of you. It was possible that you could find new information about your research topic in the past eras you were traveling through.
And you certainly did find new information almost right away. The markings on the Hero of Time were dangerously close to those you had sketched in your notebook a million times over. There was no denying it these were the same markings that not only haunted your research, but also your dreams.
You wanted to ask him about it but decided not to since he was a stranger and it would be extremely suspicious if you started to interrogate him. You hoped he would volunteer information regarding the markings and what they were connected to on his own volition. Time was not the open book you had hoped he would be, however, he did mention in passing that he had fought the moon, which you hypothesized was somehow related to your topic of research, but you had no proof.
Still, you searched through libraries when you had the luxury of staying in a town with one for more than a couple of hours. Jotting down any seemingly relevant information in your notebook. Despite all your hard work, there were still no hard leads in your investigation.
Eventually, the chain ended up in your and Wild's Hyrule plopped in the middle of Hateno beach. You decided to split the party so half of the group stayed with Wild in his house and the rest of the group would stay with you in your house at the base of the orchard under the Ancient Tech Lab.
Of course, before this could be accomplished, you needed to check in with Purah, who immediately scolded you and Wild for disappearing without a trace. She was extremely interested in the portals and asked you to gather any information you could about how they formed. You agreed and before you knew it you were travelling back down the hill towards Hateno.
It was decided that Time, Twilight, Warriors, and Wind would stay with you in your home. You led the boys through the entrance to your cottage apologizing for the accumulation of dust in your absence. The downstairs of your house was extremely simple, with a kitchen area, a couch with a sitting area centered around the fireplace, and a small storage area underneath the stairs.
You led the group up the stairs to your study/library area as well as your bedroom. It was decided that Twilight would share your bed with you, while the rest camped out on the floor of your study. You almost missed the way that Time's eyes glanced at the detailed drawings of a being long forgotten plastered on the wall. His eyes opened in surprise before he attempted to mask his shock and proceeded to yell at Wind for messing with your books.
In all honestly, you had forgotten how many of them there were, it made you feel a little insane and embarrassed at your obsession. But you couldn't help it, you needed to know more, you needed to know who and what this being was. You needed to know why it chose to save you.
The Yiga clan, fierce agents of chaos dedicated to the cause of Calamity Ganon. While in passing these individuals seemed more like fools than foes, they were definitely not to be taken lightly. They were foul condemnable bastards, who would stop at nothing to praise what they held dear, even if that meant the murder of an extremely small child.
Broken glass and blood littered the floor, and bodies of fallen footsoldiers lay at its feet. A double helix sword caked in the same red blood as the blademaster's chest it was just pulled from. Bright white eyes checked the area for any missing enemies before moving to pick up the crying child behind it. It shushed you murmuring words you would never forget, "It's okay little one, you are safe now, I'll protect you"
Footsteps could be heard outside, the rush of Sheikah soldiers too late to quell the scourge of the Yiga clan from the property. And just like that it was gone. The Sheikah soldiers entered the house taking in the sight of a baby not even the age of one alone on the table surrounded by tens of dead Yiga soldiers, the room reaking of death.
The captain, who had caught a glimpse of your savior through the window, searched the room diligently for missing the diety but came up empty-handed. This very same captain would take you under his very own roof and care for you as one of his own. He would even pass on his own drawings of the being he had seen through the window that day.

Not to get pedantic (oh who am i kidding that’s most of this blog) but I am genuinely fascinated by the potential applications of the established canon in HoO and TOA that the gods canonically have both historic and regional forms, and can appear as specific versions of those forms and have kids of those specific forms, which influence what powers the kid has/what pantheon they fall under/etc etc (and also the implication that demigods can be born under multiple forms of a singular deity). This is somewhat backed up even earlier in the first series when we’re told that Percy has earthquake powers because of his father being Poseidon “The Earthshaker” (which is Mycenaean Poseidon) - which could also tie into why Percy generally takes leadership roles, is hopping in and out of the Underworld a lot, and is apparently particularly powerful for even just a Big 3 kid, since all that would line up with Mycenaean Poseidon being generally put at the head of the pantheon and also being a chthonic deity.
Now this gets really interesting when we start looking at deities being combined and conflated, because a.) the Romans weren’t the only ones doing that and b.) the Romans had their own gods originally, they didn’t just take the Greek ones and slap a new name on them. They merged a lot with their own preexisting deities alongside adopting worship of deities from other cultures as the Romans spread (and the Greeks also did this), and c.) the ancient Greeks and Romans did exist at the same time.
Like, we know in terms of the Greeks and Romans that if their godly parents are “equivalent” then their demigod children are siblings, just like if Greek demigods have the “same” godly parent then they are also siblings. However, very few Greco-Roman gods are one-to-one, and a lot are like three gods in a trench coat, and then if you want to get into historical forms then you can start running into weird things like “Well, if you go back far enough, these two Greek gods may have originated from the same thing-” and also if we’re talking historical forms, again, the Greeks and Romans existed at the same time! Which means there would be historic forms of godly parents that are both Greek and Roman! So like, where do we go from there? Would Hazel be equally siblings to a child of Plutus as she is to Nico because both Hades and Plutus were conflated into Pluto? Orcus was also conflated with Pluto - does that mean when Nico killed Bryce Lawrence, he was killing his half-brother? (cause then that parallels just a couple chapters later when Will faces off against Octavian-) Are there demigods who, depending on their godly parents’ form(s), are technically both a Greek and Roman demigod? If Hermes and Pan possibly originated from the same god, does that mean all the satyrs are siblings with the Hermes kids? If we want to get into all the nonsense of Dionysus’ origins and Zagreus and Hades, does that mean Nico is technically siblings with Dionysus kids? Does Dionysus joke about this during their therapy sessions? Are some demigods in certain cabins siblings with kids in other cabins but each others’ siblings aren’t siblings depending on what form their godly parents were in?
I have a headache now.

Sitting outside during a storm, watching, listening; enjoying the rain and the lightning and the thunder and thinking of Lord Zeus.
Thinking about his stories; what I know and how much I know I'm oblivious to. Wondering what I can learn from him. Reminding myself to research him later.
Thanking him for the storm. For every drop, every flash; every rumble.
Thunderstorms are something we have always adored both collectively with my system and together with our family/mother. But this one was truly magical because I got to experience it with Lord Zeus in mind.
I love religion 💜.

STAYING ON MY ISOBEL BULLSHIT now with Dark Urge flavoring
i think possibly the best variation of Isobel and the Urge is the one where Minthara is present to grill you about it, because it really brings a LOT of context to the forefront of that scene that otherwise would go unquestioned
like firstly minthara has zero qualms about the Actual Killing so the killing of isobel is just like, a Non Thing, but what minthara does is question the CIRCUMSTANCES and force you to explain yourself for them, when otherwise thats something that just doesnt get discussed! you focus so much on the fact of the killing that you barely notice the scene surrounding it, which is so utterly fascinating regarding how the Urge works.
Minthara questions "why here? why now? in the middle of the shadow curse, trying to fight a powerful enemy, when allies are beneficial, if at the very least to put warm bodies between us and them?" all of which are valid points! minthara questions what the benefit is to turning all of last light into zombies *now* is, especially when you have to fight you way through them, and doesnt understand what the point is in indulging it *now* of all times. Which is certainly something to consider when you examine HOW the isobel urge scene goes down
The earliest possible scene is sceleritas visiting you in camp to give you a target for the Urge, a first in the playthrough, which happens BEFORE you go to last light but while youve spent some time in the shadow cursed lands. He provides you an image of her to recognize her, and informs you that itd be really great to kill the shit out of her, but reasons WHY are sparse. Up until that point, the Urges were random, sudden, things youd resist or indulge in the moment. Kicking a squirrel suddenly, resisting tearing off the wings of a bird, welcoming a bard into your camp or being rude but having not a single hint of bloodthirst until you wake up covered in gore. durge even says as much in an optional dialogue in the underdark, when spaw tries to scare you off before you find their village
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Urges don't give warnings" is a rule that durge has intuited through their interactions with the Urge, where their understanding is that the Urge is sudden, seemingly random, without prior signs or warnings of any kind, least of all verbal. And here Sceleritas is giving you basically an assassination target. And true to form, when you actually MEET isobel, the Urge is the worst its ever been, requiring several boxes of dialogue to go through before its able to be successfully resisted, a struggle visible enough in your expression that Isobel can tell when you've succeeded. This is FAR from the usual Urge experience for a post lobotomy durge, this is premediated and *intense*, your Urge dialogue being short clipped maddened ramblings of ripping and maiming, completely different from your fantasies of cutting of Gale's hand (which bears durges typical macarbe prose)
Succumbing to this Urge also rewards you with the Slayer form, a first for Bhaal as durge didnt have the Slayer beforehand, despite being Bhaals chosen. Killing Isobel is so important to Bhaal that he gives you what he considers his greatest gift and most powerful expression of his domain (though it can also be used as punishment, as seen in the Orin cutscene where she learns her heritage)
Why does Bhaal want Isobel Thorm, of all people, dead SO badly? He isnt even this bad about GORTASH, chosen of his sworn enemy Bane and one of the reasons why his Dark Urge chosen falls from grace in the first place? The Urge compels you, overwhelmingly, to kill Isobel as soon as you see her. It goads when you fight Marcus, saying he shouldnt kidnap her because you need to kill her *now*. You cant have any dialogue with Isobel without one of the first things the Narrator says to you is that your Urge wants to kill her SO badly. If you mention it to her, you get MULTIPLE dialogues where your only options are succumb to the Urge or resist it, with the succumb options being things like "stab you! kill you! maul you!", essentially just barking out murderous nonsense as the Urge overtakes you, and its physically sickening to boot. Resisting THIS Urge over all others FEELS godawful, its nauseating and painful and even though there isnt a check to resist it, the description emphasizes just how hard it is for you to commit to resisting this Urge. The Urge doesnt act like that at any point in act 1, or even the rest of act 2 for instance. Talking to Steelclaw and forcing yourself to remember essentially triggers another squirrel incident, this time offscreen. And resisting the Isobel Urge means any long rest after has the chance to trigger the Companion Urge scene, which Sceleritas claims to be your Urge trying to cope with the lack of bloodshed but which overall feels like a punishment. As far as ive gotten into Act 3, so far this is the ONLY Urge that behaves like this. Theres SOMETHING about Isobel SPECIFICALLY. The reward is the greatest its ever been for Durge, and the punishment is uniquely bitter, and theres no room for gray areas, even as Minthara concisely points out all the reasons attacking Isobel is a Logically Bad Idea.
To kill Isobel, your Urge makes you unto an animal, disregarding your own safety and well being, and even your own long term goals (you have to kill ketheric no matter what ending your after! you have to kill ketheric even if you want to please bhaal! to become his chosen and slay the world in his name!) and it doesnt make a lick of sense. Sceleritas asks if you arent fond of piles of corpses anymore but it doesnt even matter if you tell him your waiting for a better timeframe to slaughter everyone, the fact you didnt do it as soon as the Urge demanded it is worthy enough of punishment to try and kill your closest companion.
Overwhelmingly it feels less like the typical instinctive Dark Urge borne into your blood and more like a Divine Mandate that you are punished for rejecting. Blessed with the purest expression of Bhaals power, losing yourself to an animalistic frenzy, forgoing common sense or strategic thinking or even *plans on long term appeasing Bhaals goals*, putting EVERYTHING at risk because theres a strong chance the shadow curse will just PERMAKILL YOU as per the curses lore, all for a SINGLE kill. Bhaal wants Isobel Thorm, specifically, dead by YOUR hands, and her death is worth more to him than the slaughter of Myrkuls Chosen, and worth risking the completion of the worlds death to him. The entire situation casts doubt on the nature of the Urge (up until then a randomly occuring "instinct" that could be embraced or resisted but ran the risk of striking when you werent prepared leading you to act on it, but overall something that did not overwrite who you were as a person or your decision making abilities, as durge remained macabre-ly poetic as per usual and could balance it against perceived pros and cons strategically) which in turn casts doubt on your entire HISTORY as the Dark Urge prior to your tadpoling. Combined with the knowledge that Bhaal blesses his killers with murderous euphoria better than any drug high, and the description of Orins slayer punishment as "No more Orin", the Urge to kill Isobel makes one wonder just exactly how much control Durge had over themselves beforehand and if the Urge is truly as innate as Sceleritas (and the Absolute in the optional wall crack dialogue) seems to indicate
After all, if the Dark Urge is you, and you are the Dark Urge, why would Sceleritas go to the trouble of informing you beforehand? Why would the Urge pick your closest companion when you dont kill a stranger whos keeping you alive long enough to slaughter the world? Why would you lose yourself and start babbling madly when you talk about the killing Urge? Why does the Urge sicken within you so similarly whenever your kind or compassionate?
What the fuck is UP with Isobel Thorm?
