In Defense Of Lanolin, A Post About Perspective, Flaws and Development. (Part 1: The Incidents)

Hey there everyone! It's time for another ✨Max Opinion Moment✨. Out of all of the IDW characters I think Lanolin is the character I've seen get the most hate. I'm not just talking about "I dislike this character" I'm talking I've seen posts where people act like Lanolin killed their family sort of hate.

Today I plan on defending Lanolin as a character! Talking about the main panels that caused this hatred and why I think she's... actually justified in her actions!

DISCLAIMER! This post is not meant to say "You can't DISLIKE Lanolin!". You're allowed to have your opinions of the character!

with all of that out of the way, let's talk sheep! Buckle up! Because this is a long one! (So long I might have to make a part 2)

Case #1: The Paddle Ball Incident

One of the earliest examples (comic timeline wise) was this set of panels! I've seen people actually seethe over these panels. Now I want to explain why I, personally, understand why she's taken the paddle away from her!

Lanolin is talking about important stuff here! Tangle is ACTIVELY interrupting the conversation by playing with the paddle ball in her face. Also, as an autistic person, I personally know how distracting those noises can be!

People also seem to forget that Lanolin, a few pages earlier, looks EXHAUSTED. That is not the face of a sheep that's well rested. Of course she's going to be irritable!

You'd be a bit of a bitch too if you were trying to talk about important stuff and someone was cutting off the conversation by fiddling with something really loud in your face! It's like if you were trying to present a school project you worked all night on and someone started playing a really loud video next to you.

Does this make Tangle a bad person? Of course not! She's energetic and gets bored easily (trust me girl, I get it.) but Lanolin isn't bad for being upset.

Case 2: The Duo Incident

THIS is the main reason a lot of people hate Lanolin as a character. Though in the timeline it's the second panel people will point to as justification for wanting this fictional sheep dead. This is the part of the post where I talk a LOT about perspective and justification.

Get ready for a LOTTTT of panel posting to add context.

SO Let's discuss the main perspective we see, Silver and Whisper's

Silver and Whisper know something is up with Duo, hell Whisper hits the nail right on the head when she instantly assumes Duo to be Mimic! This all happens after Mimic sneakily kicks Silver and Whisper notices.

Another event this happens is when Mimic basically leaves Silver for dead and what does he say after Lanolin asks him where silver is?

"I'm sorry I couldn't save him... the teeth... so big."

From LANOLIN'S PERSPECTIVE, Duo is the new guy, inexperienced and doesn't know how to deal with badniks and this one was HUGE. So from HER pov Duo did his best to save Silver and just simply couldn't. Of course she doesn't know that Duo is Mimic.

So what do Whisper and Silver do after they assume there's a traitor amongst them?

"We're Going Hunting."

Silver and Whisper don't first contact Lanolin or the others, they jump INSTANTLY to murder. The next panel we sees Silver and Whisper in in this arc is them camping in a bush, ready to shoot this Mimic.

Once again, I need to emphasize, they DID NOT discuss this with Tangle or Lanolin. They jumped to murder. This is a rash choice on both of their ends.

I also want to point out that Lanolin acted a lil playful and friendly... before she saw Whisper coming out of the bushes with her wispon.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize what Whisper is implying here. She wants to kill someone. Justified? Yes, Mimic is a horrible person who seems to only know one word, betray. But from Lanolin's perspective Duo is a newbie who's only crime was being inexperienced. She does not know Duo is Mimic.

She even asks "The Shape-Shifter? That's a big accusation. Do you have any proof?" She isn't saying "Whisper, this guy clearly isn't mimic." She's saying "If you have proof he's mimic, show it instead of shooting this person I assume is innocent.".

and Whisper responds "We will soon."

Whisper then walks forward and proceeds to grab Lanolin's arm and move it, if you have a keen eye, you'll notice it was the arm Lanolin was using to protect Duo.

A teammate is walking towards your other seemingly innocent teammate, accusing them of being someone from their past. They're carrying a loaded weapon and move you out of the way. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what would happen next. Someone is going to get shot, someone is going to get killed.

So what do you do?

You knock the person down.

What Lanolin does here is knock Whisper over before she does anything and attempts to reason why her. Before whisper then KICKS her legs, trying to knock her over. Thus starts a fight. I'm not gonna post the full panel because we already got the idea.

But afterwards Jewel asks "Hey let me get this straight, you tried to attack this dude based on an assumption"

And Silver is like "Yeah shit guess I was"

THEN Lanolin steps in like "Hey until you can like. think before you act you should stay away from us, kay?"

OKAY SO, TO EMPHASIZE THIS A THIRD TIME. Silver and Whisper decided to try and kill this guy before discussing with their team. Silver is a powerhouse and a well known powerhouse at that. "Yadda Yadda great power, great responsibility." and all that.

People act like Lanolin is banning Silver from ever being in the diamond cutters ever. But she's saying "FOR NOW you can't be one of us.". Until is a word that changes a LOT here. She's also saying "That's my vote." implying she wants the others' input.

Hell this is even more emphasized when Jewel says Tangle has a say in this! Lanolin is saying "Hey, I think Silver shouldn't be around until he grows more, what do you guys think?".

I do think Lanolin has flaws here, she should've tried to give whisper a bit more benefit of the doubt here, but Whisper shouldn't of ALSO jumped to murder. They're BOTH in the wrong here.

PHEW THAT WAS A LONG ONE.

Case #3: The X-Treme Gear Incident

This is the latest Lanolin panel that I've seen spark debate about her! Let's talk about the Diamond Cutters' roles in this arc!

They're referees! They're even called "The Restoration Refs" in issue 70! Basically, people who oversee the race to make sure everyone is playing fair and safe.

She's not doing this because she hates Sonic (okay maybe she has beef with Sonic), Amy and Tails. She's doing this because it was an active threat to everybody else and themselves!

Hell I want to point out that in the first panel of this case, she's pointing at Sonic. Who she has witnessed first hand clearly having a disregard to the rules and safety.

This then proceeded to almost get one of her teammates hurt.

So Lanolin calling Sonic a "Hazard" Isn't too far off. Do I think Lanolin is being harsh here? Yeah. Hell even the comic points out she's being harsh after the first panel of this case.

People act like she swiveled around to Tails and went "You suck as an inventor" and spit on him. She's calling the gear "faulty" and "hazards". Shes literally doing her job. I need to emphasize this. Is she being rude? Yes. But she's blunt and it's apart of her character. Tangle is gonna be naive, Whisper's gonna be distant, Lanolin is gonna be blunt.

Bonus Case: The Shattered Glass Incident.

Okay so this isn't one that I've seen people hate on Lanolin for but I... have seen the Anti-Lanolin squad be weird over this panel. Being all like "HA!! Not as perfect as she thought!" and "She's finally facing the consequences of her actions!!"

What actions?

Ah yes! Stopping Sonic from endangering more racers!

Lanolin broke the glass, yes. She acted quickly, yes. This wasn't her scheming and being like "Heehee!! Time to put all these people in danger for some reason!!"

Let's call it what it is.

A Mistake.

Something people are allowed to make, something Lanolin is allowed to make. This isn't some sort of "her getting what's coming to her" it's her realizing she fucked up. Let her make mistakes and let them BE mistakes!

But yeah, if you've read this all the way through, thank you! I had a lot of fun making this (despite how exhausted I am of the lanolin hate train). Hopefully I'll actually make that part 2! Because that would be more so me talking about Lanolin's flaws, her role, and her backstory! Things I like to discuss (I do not like being a hater).

Hi, I'm pretty new to shifting. I have had that "tugging" feeling in my brain a couple of times where everything around me blurred but never actually shifted. Do you have any tips about what I should do doing these times? Like close my eyes, think of a certain things, etc.

I am very bad at visualization, so I was wondering if you have any tips for that?

And also I was wondering if a script is necessary to shift? Are there any more important parts in a script?

When you start feeling symptoms, which are too strong to be premature, than it means that your 3D (physicality) is shifting, as you have already shifted in your 4D (thoughts).

The first step is to remain calm, detach yourself from the shifting process, like affirming. Its best to not get excited, but if you're feeling excitement which you can let go of, make it so your DR self is feeling excited for any reason, so you're channeling your emotional energy towards your DR as well. Its important to act like your DR self from that point onwards.

My first method doesn't involve visualising, read my pinned post.

A physical script is not important, but a general idea of what you want is important. People who are experienced in shifting (doesn't matter if they shifted or not) stop physical shifting after they've created at least one script.

This is important because you could have general multiversal laws (it really is lawless out there) safety rules and regulations established first, so you can save yourself in trouble later on.

If you don't feel like it, sit down, brainstorm everything you need and will need in your DR, the script will be stored in your subconscious, regardless.

But anyways, your subconscious knows what you want, but it's best to decide consciously so that your human brain doesn't interfere during it.

Important parts of a script:

On top of your script, write a safe word. It's could be a phrase as well, and it's better to keep a single one for all DRs. You should script that no matter what happens, you'll never forget it, this safeword will instantly shift you back to this CR, or another "safe" reality which you've decided, this could be a waiting room.

Safety rules; general stuff like not getting hurt, others which ensure you're a master shifter and manifestor, so nothing unpredictable can happen to you. Also script a LIFA app, which is like a setting app for the multiverse.

Script that everything around you perceive you as a normal human being (or whatever species you are) so that even astral beings aren't able to figure you're a shifter.

Other details regarding your DR, this doesn't have to be detailed, it's perfectly fine to leave out information, because your subconscious will fill in perfectly for you, just provide a framework.

"Whatever I have not scripted works out perfectly and exactly how I want it to."

Got really into Spy x Family recently...my mind's been working.

Hear is my take on Sterek Spy x Family au:

Option A: Spy Stiles x Assassin Derek

"Stiles Jankowski", code name: Void, the FBI's (or some other organization's) best spy/agent, always gets his missions done and has never been caught. Man of many faces/disguises, a silent and deadly enemy to his assigned targets (for the purpose of being able to disguise him scent and hide his heartbeat, Stiles is at least a little magic in all of these). Stiles has lots of experience with dealing with the supernatural, like were's, darach's and many others . Nothing and no one has ever gotten the jump on him, until…

Derek Hale, code name: The Wolf, a born werewolf that later became trained as an assassin in order to take care of his little sister after their family died. If any of his targets were ever found, they'd be found with claw marks and more often than not, their throats ripped out, but...his victims are never found. Derek was never interested in romantic relationships, but Cora keeps telling him to "get a life," and he does, when he suddenly crosses paths with Stiles...

Option B: Assassin Stiles x Spy Derek

Derek Hale, code name: Alpha, born wolf whose whole family was murdered and then later on he became a spy. Because of his training and werewolf abilities, Derek's the best spy the organization has got. He's always able to find and get the jump on his targets once he's locked in on their scent/heartbeat, it's game over for them. The same reason, no one's able to get the jump on him, until there's one person he doesn't immediately catch a scent or heartbeat...

Mieczyslaw Stiles Stilinski, code name: Little Red, took up the career path of an assassin as a way to inadvertently help his Sheriff father with the bad guys that get away. In his training, he learned how to hide his scent and heartbeat in case any of his targets were shifters, and sometimes he forgets to turn off his "ilusion." Despite how much his boss nags at him, to quit "playing with his food" he's never gotten caught, scratched and bruised sure, but it's worth it in order to cause his victims a little mischief. Everyone in his life is bothering him about finding someone, and he firmly believes he'll never find someone. That is until he runs into one Derek Hale, who promptly asks him to marry him...

Option C: My thoughts - Spy Stiles w/Yor's personality x Assassin Derek w/Loid's personality

If you watched the anime, you might agree with me. Yor's personality as a civilian fits Stiles', meanwhile Loid's fits Derek more. However, in their jobs, I think Stiles would be better suited for what Loid does for his job as a spy, especially with how it seems his spy identity as "Twilight" is kinda treated the same way as how some fics I've read treat "Void" as being another identity Stiles can take. It's hard to try to think of how Derek works better as an assassin rather than a spy, seeing as, in either job, he'd be offing people, but also, the acrobatics, feats of incredible strengths AND reflexes that Yor does as a civilian and assassin are definitely things I could see Derek doing, probably because that's how he was in the show.

Now I have like basic ideas for how Eli would be included in any of these options, in terms of how Sterek come across him and go into choosing him. But, remembering the "OG" purpose of Anya having been adopted, (infiltrating the school to get closer to a target), that's where my brain hasn't worked much ideas and plot for him. But if yall want to know how I think Eli is introduced in any of the options, let me know.

The Hug

“You're tense,” she says. “What is it?”

We're lying on the sofa, side by side. She's really good at reading me like this.

“Don't freak out,” I say. “I, uh, I want to turn fluid, flow all over you, and envelop you. Like a whole-body hug. It's something we do to show how much we care about each other.”

She’s silent. I'm used to this. Sometimes our differences take a while to process. “Isn't that scary?” she says after a while.

“Maybe if you're human,” I say. “I… don't know.”

She turns to look at me. “It's also the best position for absorbing someone, isn't it?”

“...yes,” I say, quietly. Already fluid, fully enveloping, no way for them to escape. “But I want to make you feel good, not… eat you. I've had other shifters do it for me. It feels good.”

“I'm not a shifter,” she says. I can hear the regret.

“And if we figure out how to change that, you'll be the first to know. You know that.”

She's silent again.

“OK, let's try,” she says. “I trust you.”

Those three words fill me with warmth. So many humans can't get over the absorption thing, even though it's our biggest taboo. We do not absorb people. But we can, and they never forget it.

Yet she trusts me. It's more than I deserve, more than I ever hoped for. I want to give her what I can. I'm smiling.

“I'll go slowly,” I say. “If it's too much, tell me, OK?”

She nods.

I turn my hand fluid first, and flow over hers. We've done this much before – she wanted to know how it felt. Then more – her arm, the whole side where we're touching. I stay in partly-human form, so I can watch for any sign of discomfort – though I'd feel as much through her muscles and skin. I make myself as warm and gentle as I can.

“Keep going,” she says, quietly.

I let go of my form altogether, and keep flowing till I'm covering every part of her body. Except the awkwardly-sensitive parts (human bodies are weird). I have to leave gaps for her to breathe. I keep only the thinnest layer on her face, and when she closes her eyes, I cover those, too.

She lets out the breath she was holding, and gradually relaxes. We can't mindspeak – humans can't do that – but silence is just as good. I hold her tight like she's one of the most precious things in the world. Because in my world, she is.

Does this work? It's straying closer to uncomfortable territory (i.e. anything romantic or sexual) than I'd usually go. But I can't stay in my comfort zone all the time.

And I've experienced this in dreams - where I'm a shifter - and it does feel good. It makes me feel warm, comfortable and safe. Being among my own kind always does.

Has a lot of scars like you’d expect of a shifter, but some of the gnarliest ones have the dumbest causes. Oh those huge scars on his leg, forearm and chin? He was probably shifted and fighting a wild animal. No, he tried to learn how to skateboard as a teenager and Milo convinced him the best way to learn was to go down a massive hill. He ended up in the ER getting stitches.

SAM:

He’s a city boy 100%, also has absolutely 0 rhythm and couldn’t dance to save his life. Like sure he could learn the steps but he’d be overthinking and trying to remember them so hard that it’d just come out super robotic and weird

HUXLEY:

Hopeless romantic through and through, definitely learns Phytokinesis to grow Damien his favorite flowers and regularly makes lil heart shaped rocks to give him (Damien has a whole shoebox of them bc he’s never gotten rid of a single one but would never admit it)(also Hux’s favorite flowers to grow are Dahlia Summer Flame and Flame Lilies for obvious reasons)

DAMIEN:

This man makes lil pictures with fire when he’s around the DAMN crew, lil hearts for Hux, dicks for Gavin etc. Also very jokingly mean with his friends and definitely calls people stinky out of nowhere. Also has called Lasko a fartbender just to watch him get (lovingly/p) annoyed. This man is so much more chaotic than he lets on

“I'm fine,” Theo groans.

“Do you know the story of the boy who cried wolf? You're like the opposite. You say I'm fine and I immediately start to worry,” Liam says with a bit of sass as he bites his nails and taps his foot on the clinic's floor.

Even Deaton grins at Liam's joke because he has to admit, it's not unjustified.

Theo rolls his eyes. “You got hit by the powder too. Why aren't you getting checked out?” he throws at Liam who's standing way too close to Deaton as he checks Theo's vitals.

At that, the vet stops and turns to frown at the beta.

“Well... I was gonna. I'm just waiting for my turn.” Liam blushes under both Theo's and Deaton's unconvinced looks. “And you hit your head pretty bad, what if you got a concussion or something!”

“I'm an invincible supernatural creature,” Theo reminds them with a groan, growing more grumpy and annoyed every second he stays on the examination table.

Deaton looks into the chimera’s eyes and raising three fingers. “How many fingers am I holding?”

“Six,” Theo answers, bored.

Deaton and Liam share a look.

“I'm joking!” Theo exclaims like that was obvious.

“Try and get his scent,” Stiles urges him. “Get anything?”

“Well, it's a mix of honey with a bit of sweat but it's not bad, it's actually-”

Stiles punches Theo's arm a bit harsher than necessary. “Not his actual scent! His emotional state. Chemosignals!”

“Oh,” Theo says, now a bit embarrassed.

Well, Theo hasn't been around Liam all that long but there's always some kind of low rage to his scent. Even when he's happy and smiling. So he disregards that, thinking that it must be more his scent than an actual emotion that he drags everywhere.

“He's sad.”

“Wow, in a cemetery? No way,” Stiles tells him sarcastically, still so impatient. “Don't tell me. It's grief.”

“It's not grief,” Theo tells him, not fazed by Stiles' attitude. “It's uh…” Theo is puzzled for a few seconds. He's not that bad at chemosignals usually. It's one of the only shifter things where he's pretty average. Which is a good thing. “It's resentment.”

Before he can add something else, he smells the rage in Liam's scent suddenly flare up and explode into the air. Theo is shocked by it even at this distance.

Liam starts kicking the dirt furiously in front of the tombstone. Both Stiles and Theo stay silent, speechless. Even from a distance, they can hear Liam sniffing and it's clear that he's crying, passing a sleeve over his face often.

A bit more controlled, Liam takes the flowers that were on the tombstone and puts them on the one next to it, not really caring as long as they're not for this particular person anymore. And then he leaves.

They wait until Liam is fully out of the cemetery before they approach the tombstone.

Theo does the math in his mind. He died the year Liam first left town. Where there is bright and luscious grass everywhere else, Liam's father's tombstone is barely more than dirt with pathetic patches of dry grass. Liam must come here often to make sure there's never any green here.

“Alright, just one final thing! No matter what… we can't let Stiles know that we're going out!” Liam says quickly as he takes his backpack, ready to go.  

“Obviously.”

“Obviously,” Liam says again, nodding at Theo with relief. “Great!”

“Are you sure?” Mason stops their “exactlyyy” moment to ask. “Maybe it would be better to come forward and-”

“No!” Both Liam and Theo exclaim at the same time.

Mason isn’t the angry type. At best, he gets annoyed and then, a few minutes later, he somehow forgets about it. Liam has always been envious of that quality. That being said, it also means that, when Mason looks at him with that peeved look, Liam knows something is definitely bugging him. That light squinting is probably the equivalent of Liam getting his claws out and growling. So he thinks about it for a few seconds. 

“Maybe after the pack meeting,” Liam suggests, trying to find a compromise.

“Yeah, like in ten years,” Theo adds with a snort. 

Liam slaps his arm but, based on Theo’s puzzled “what?”, it seems the chimera didn’t spot Mason putting his foot down. 

Mason’s intense look lands on Theo and Liam knows he’s about to get it. 

“Didn’t take you for a romantic, Raeken, but ten years? Wow, you must love Liam a whole lot to picture yourself still with him in a decade.” 

Theo doesn’t move but his face gains just enough blush for Mason to be satisfied as he turns on his heels and heads for the door.

So I feel like talking about my current DnD character tonight.

This is him. His name is Alvar (everyone say "hi, Alvar!")

Anyway, Alvar is a Beasthide Shifter, Order of the Lycan Bloodhunter. Meaning he has a tendency to turn into this:

See, Alvar is mega-cursed. Backstory is that he was part of a party of adventurers, out on a heroic quest to slay the dragon and save the realm. What could go wrong? Well he finds a gold coin, emblazoned with the image of a dragon curled on a horde of gold, and promptly wakes up to find his party dead and the forest burning around him.

Turns out, this dragon was uber-powerful, and placed a curse on the coin to turn Alvar into a weredragon. The curse can go off at pretty much any time, but it manifests most often when Alvar believes that someone is trying to take this coin away from him. Think "dragon sickness" on steroids, but just for this one specific coin.

Anyway, I took the Haunted One background for him, naturally, and he has spent the five years prior to this current campaign hunting zombies. Basically, his master who taught him to control the curse also instilled in him the idea that "you don't get to die to atone for your sins. It's your responsibility to stay alive until you've saved more people than you've killed." Now, Alvar does tend to take this to the extreme, counting even those that he failed to save as having died by his hand. But all that aside.

The Haunted One background has a feature that basically says "common people are wary of you, but they trust that you've seen some crap, so they're going to do what they can to help you on your way." The way we've basically been playing this is the reputation that Aragorn has in Bree in the Lord of the Rings. The people are super unsettled around him, but they know that he means them no harm.

This manifests in some pretty funny rp moments, as I tend to forget that the image of the character I'm playing is a haggard ranger who looks like he hasn't slept under a roof in the past month. This results in me, while trying to subtly intimidate hostile NPC's into cooperating, inadvertently convincing them that Alvar is going to just...

Eat Them.

Like this has happened at least twice now. Which is honestly quite fun to play with. -1 CHA character tries desperately to come across as kind and helpful, but the best he can muster is "I'm not the monster you need to be afraid of" lol. Anyway, my DM and I have come to the collective conclusion that, though he's gaining a positive reputation among the common folk of the campaign, the following is essentially how his enemies view him:

For today's propaganda, I shall give a detailed explanation of how Sky's species works. Because I might have been thinking about it, in the not so normal amount. It's detailed for sure :v

(Sky, appearances in seasons 1 to 4)

Anyway, like I said, Sky is a shape-shifter demon (tho her parents are humans, but that's a different can of worms...)

They can change their appearance, but can't change into animals completely, so if Sky wanted to change into them, he would still have to learn the 72 transformations.

They can however change into an animal-like demon forms, and that gives them perks of said species. She likes the lynx and monkey forms the best, because they give more agility. 

Shape-shifting wings is possible, but harder than changing hair colour, or even a tail, since humans have a tail bone, and so do demons since some of them do have actual tails. Sky likes having a tail, and will sometimes forget to shape-shift it out. And her tail actually gets broken and doesn't heal properly (that's why it's bent) in season 3, making them unable to shape-shift it out completely any more. They can only make it change shape, and become shorter or longer. 

Changing colour of her hair and skin is also a more advanced technique, since it needs the decrease or increase in melanin, while the other transformations just require the re-arrangement of his cells. Unnatural colours however are almost impossible to achieve without the aid of additional magic. Tho, Sky does tend to get a bit more pale when changing into a more animal-like form, but that's just a side effect of him not being fully in control of her powers.

The true form of a shape-shifter demon of their species is the one they're born with. So yes, despite their form being fluent, they do have one set original appearance. But, Sky has also something kind of a 'true' true form. It can manifest if their powers go unstable, her body gaining a monster-like gas-like appearance. It's very hard to land a hit on him while in this form, because your punch might just phase through their body. But, the mind of a demon in that state becomes just as scattered as their body, making it near impossible to reason with.

But even when Sky's form is stable, their cells aren't as neatly connected as human's to accommodate for the shape-shifting and make it easier. But that also causes them to be more prone to injuries and other physical issues, such as asthma and poor sight. And any injuries/scars are permanent, no changing that

Roleplay Ramblings: New Elements part 3

Character Options

So I’ve talked at length about what the new elemental planes are and what they mean, but now it’s time to get to the nitty-gritty and actually apply them to 1st edition, starting with the character options that players will actually be playing as in either the modern Lost Omens setting minus the edition change or in your own setting where you include these elements.

The first we have to focus on is new ancestries. While they are heritages in 2e, that doesn’t change the fact that we have two new geniekin planar scions running around, either being super rare individuals that lived before the re-emergence, members of bloodlines that spontaneously awakened to their ancestral heritage when the planes came back, or those that were born afterwards in the normal ways that planar scions typically gain their heritages.

These two ancestries are the ardande and talos, for wood and metal respectively, and since they were never mentioned in 1st edition you will have to homebrew them (or, you know, use the homebrew I made of them if you like). Thankfully pretty much every planar scion ancestry follows a similar sort of template for what abilities they get, with room for variant heritages and alternate traits, so you’ll have a decent starting position to work from. Additionally, consider that suli might also start drawing from those elements as well, though likely this will be more of a vibe thing as metal probably best evokes electricity or sonic if you can get away with it, while wood’s best energy type comparison is probably acid as a stand-in for poison.

Classes may have to be updated as well. However, there is a lot of ground already covered here , with wizards, oracles, and shamans all getting schools, mysteries, and spirits respectively centered around these aspects. Meanwhile, sorcerers and bloodragers could easily have the elemental bloodlines updated with metal and wood as options, as well as genie bloodlines for Zhura and Khizidar genies as well.

On a more minor note, having four new elemental lords means four new deities for your divine casters to play around with, requiring homebrewing for their domain, subdomain, and even potentially obedience lists.

Additionally, you may consider tweaking the kineticist to have a separate metal element like I did, as well as maybe slightly rework certain talents or talent lists. And for that matter don’t forget to tweak various other minor elemental options with other classes, such as the elementalist shifter, elemental rager, and so on.

Of course, we would be remiss to not talk about the various new elemental spells in Rage of the Elements, many of which explore the applications of the new elements, all of which makes for lovely conversion fodder. Of course, Rage of the Elements was the first hardback that uses the new Remastered paradigm for spellcasting. (And even then, original 2e had a slightly different interpretation of what spells belonged to which schools, but as long as you have a good understanding of what each First Edition school is meant to cover, you should have any trouble deciding which spell goes where. Also, while the elemental wizard schools do exist, they might need an update or trimming based on what each element represents in the new paradigm if you wanna go that far.

Even with such a brief summary as this, we can see the work that has been done and the work left to do for bringing these new elements into play in First Edition. However, tomorrow we’ll look into the more GM-side of things with new elemental monsters these planes provide, as well as more generally how elementals work between editions. Look forward to it!

what should i affirm for respawning?

(Quick note: My internet has been failing on and off all day/night, so I might not have another post up tonight, but hopefully it'll be fixed by tomorrow?? So sorry abt that!!)

Doing the asks a lil out of order, sorry this took so long btw!

Before I start, I’m going to quickly clarify the difference between respawning and permashifting, just to make sure you make the best choice! (Affs and advice included at the end.) :>

To quickly remind everyone:

Respawning is shifting and scripting that you completely forget your OR/CR. It is completely cutting ties with your original reality, and is irreversible. IT DOES NOT MEAN DYING IN THIS REALITY!!! A version of you will still remain behind, so absolutely DO NOT give up on life here, or make plans to end your own life! It will not, in any way, help to do that. /srs

(I urgently repeat, do not attempt to hurt yourself or take your own life just because you’re desperate to shift. Dying is a long-term solution to temporary problems, and will only forward pain onto those around you, as well as those you care about. Respawning is not about that. Dying is not part of respawning. Self-harm of any kind is not part of respawning. It will not help. Please, take care of yourselves and stay safe.)

Permashifting is shifting and simply not coming back. You still remember your OR/CR perfectly well, but you just willingly don’t come back. This decision is reversible, should you so choose to come back, someday.

So Respawning is permanent, and Permashifting is reversible!

Now that that’s cleared up, affirmations for respawning, permashifting, and regular shifting are generally pretty similar.

Any normal affirmations will work, such as “I am shifting”/”I have shifted”/”I am my desired self”/etc etc. That said, there are specific subliminals for respawning which you might find particularly useful! Since it’s such a big decision, I’d recommend ‘shopping around’ a bit on youtube to find some good, reliable sources (should you choose to use them), such as channels like Slade, Kween Subs, and mxrahki. :>

Something that could also help (and that helps in general with shifting) is affirming things specific to your DR self, but as if they’re already true and present in your reality surrounding you. Examples could include affirming your DR self’s name (like saying “My name is XYZ”) or where you live, as well as where you intend to wake up.

If you’re looking for basic affirmations, though, a good list would include smth along the lines of:

I am in my desired reality. I have respawned into my desired reality. I am pure consciousness. I am choosing to experience my desired reality. I am a master shifter. Shifting is as simple as breathing. I shift often.

Alternatively, some people find it easier to phrase the affirmations like questions! This is also an option to try out, if you believe it could help! Those would go more along the lines of:

Why is shifting so easy for me? Why can’t I stop shifting? Why do I shift every time I try? Why do I always shift on the first try? Why do I shift so often? How am I this good at shifting?

TLDR: Shifting affirmations between respawning, permashifting, and normal shifting aren't all that different, as it's still the same process, just with a slightly different end result.

Shifting is also super personal, so experiment and see what works best for you! Hopefully that made some sense?? I'm a little tired, but happy to upload something for you all! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send another ask! :3c

How do you go about writing your fan fictions? I personally kind of just go for it, but I end up loosing the flow and it gets all jumbled up and doesn’t really make any sense.I’ve noticed in a few of your sneak-peaks sometimes your writing is written like a script, or they are random short snippets.

I’m hoping to fix the flow of my writing, and not loose motivation as quickly.

I also usually just start writing. For the most part what I publish is almost exactly what I wrote for my rough draft with just some grammar/spelling edited (if I remember to bother with it before just throwing it up, or if I'm not practically falling asleep before I publish it).

The screenshots that are snippets are taken from scenes that are already fully written, then I just decide on a paragraph or two that I think get the idea across most clearly. The screenshots of writing that looks like it's formatted like a script are probably specifically from my Data Leak WIP, where I'm showing text messages from the characters! That's a way to represent those texts stylistically, and not how I typically write/draft.

When you guys see anything with bullet points, that's my outlining process. Normally that happens after I've already written a chunk of the story and determine I need some of those notes to make sure I don't forget about elements that I was foreshadowing just in case I step away for a while. For example, here is the chapter summary/outline for chapter 3 of Dalliance:

I knew this one was going on the WIP rotation so I wrote down everything I remembered wanted to be in that scene so I had a play-by-play when I got back to it. If you struggle with maintaining motivation for projects, then outlining with a full chapter summary can help ensure that you remember where you wanted to go in case you take a step back for a while.

But if I know I'm doing something in a bigger chunk I don't bother with that and only make short notes. For the Pet!Shifter Dabi story, this is all I have for my outline:

It's just the bare minimum of notes, but they act as anchor points for my story. These are three scenes that I want to hit, anything around these scenes can change or be adapted, even these scenes themselves can be adjusted, it all just depends on what the narrative is doing once I get deeper into the writing. If you're struggling with your flow becoming incoherent, then setting anchor points in a loose outline can help with this. You can always look at the point you are aiming on getting to, look at your current trajectory and adjust accordingly. Sometimes you might notice that the original plan isn't working anymore, that's okay too, as long as you can replace the point you were originally going to with one that is as concrete/makes just as much sense, then making that change can help your story grow.

As far as losing motivation goes, it really, genuinely does help to share your work with a few people/online who motivate you to keep going. I know that when I was in college I was writing at a similar rate as I am now because I was working on my degree. However, once I left, I slowed down a lot until I finally started posting again over the last year. If you have other writer friends then sharing with them can be a great way to keep going!

And for anyone wondering why I'm working in Comic Sans: No joke, writing in Comic Sans can genuinely help you to write faster/not be as precious with your work. And I'm writing on green with gray text because it helps me with my eyestrain after spending so much time on my computer for writing and work!

There are so many dragons to choose from that the only thing I have right now is: white dragon with maybe gold eyes (maybe a bit of red scales too?) so I guess, in this scenario, if we’re staying with How To Train Your Dragon dragons, Light Fury would be the most obvious choice.

Of course, there’s also the legendary ‘White Dragon’ that we don’t have a lot of information with so Ezio could be part of a bloodline that can shape-shift to the legendary white dragon.

In this scenario, maybe the Auditore family is one of the remaining direct descendants of the shape-shifting White Dragons.

Are they human? Are they dragons? The answer is simple: they are both.

Perhaps the reason why the White Dragons have not been seen for so long now is because their bloodline had nearly been decimated due to humans fearing what they could not understand. And even in the Auditore bloodline, Ezio is the first shape-shifter in centuries. They only have stories, well kept and hidden from even other member of the families.

Only three will always know the secret: the head, the heir and the spare.

And Ezio was not supposed to be the heir or the spare even if he was the second oldest.

Giovanni Auditore understood that the best candidate as heir of House Auditore was Claudia, his third child and only daughter with his oldest Federico taking the spot of the ‘spare’.

Federico was fine with that. He didn’t have his own wishes and dreams other than to be of some use to his family (while being able to enjoy life as he desired).

Ezio didn’t want to lead House Auditore and Giovanni saw that and that was why he was passed over. He mostly does errands for his parents when he’s not busy visiting the person he’s crushing hard on or if he’s not painting.

Petruccio was too young at the moment to be added to the ‘list’ and his weak constitution made it risky to even see him a candidate.

Claudia had the fire in her eyes as an Auditore and is stubborn but smart, knowing when to fold them but never forgetting others’ actions against her. She reminds Giovanni of his beloved Maria and knew that Claudia would lead House Auditore better than his flighty sons.

And then…

Ezio turned 18 and disappeared…

And rumors of a white dragon start spreading all over Italia.

Unorganized Notes (more on the side of backstory):

Is this set in How to Train Your Dragon world and ‘Italia’ is just another location or is this set in AC world but replaced the Assassins and Templars with dragons? Pick your poison.

Ezio and Leonardo knew each other because they both paint. They’re not close (although Leonardo likes to believe that they were getting to that point before Ezio’s disappearance… and he would be right) but they were friendly with one another and would sometimes talk about mundane things.

Claudia, Federico and Giovanni all know the white dragon is Ezio and they fear that Ezio had forgotten that he was human as well. They have stories of white dragons going insane and fully embracing their ‘dragon side’, making them mindless beasts of destruction and they’re afraid of that but they want to find Ezio and keep him safe.

The whole ‘fully embracing’ and dragon/human side things are not true. There’s no such thing. The stories have been muddled because they did not keep actual written records in fear of being prosecuted so everything is passed down via speech only. The dragon shifters are both human and dragon, they cannot fully embrace one side because there is no real line between the two. The supposed mindless beast of legends was actually a shape-shifter who had been tortured and broke, turning ‘mindless’ because of it. It was meant to be a warning to how there are people who would exploit them even if it means breaking them and to be cautious but it has turned into fear of becoming a monster all on their own.

Ezio doesn’t know he can turn into a dragon. He doesn’t know he can turn back in human any time he wants but he can’t do that because his fear of being a dragon keeps him from shifting as shifting can only be done if someone is calm as they try to shift. Whenever Ezio tries to turn back to being human, he’s more on the side of panicking or begging but fearing that it won’t do anything.

For the Leonardo and Ezio interactions (still unorganized notes):

Leonardo meets Ezio by accident and Ezio didn’t fly away because he recognized Leonardo and saw no fear in his eyes, only surprise which quickly turn into a big smile.

Leonardo is not afraid of Ezio because he heard the rumors, of course, but there were no evidence that the dragon was violent. If anything, it sounded more like a skittish creature so Leonardo tries to give him an apple as a peace offering, making soft sounds to not scare him.

Ezio notices it and thinks Leonardo is patronizing him, and he bats the apple away while staring at Leonardo with a deadpan expression.

This only excites Leonardo because they were communicating and the dragon wasn’t trying to leave.

It ends with Leonardo visiting Ezio’s current hideout regularly, offering different food to try and gain the dragon’s ‘friendship’. Ezio just humors him because he trusts Leonardo won’t rat him out and… well… he bought him cake once and Ezio missed the taste of sugar.

Leonardo starts sketching him and Ezio realized that he could communicate with Leonardo if he just writes words in something like mud or sand. (God, he’s so stupid! Why haven’t he thought of that???)

He doesn’t tell Leonardo that he’s Ezio though because he’s afraid that Leonardo would think he’s a monster. There’s a difference between a wild dragon that could understand human words and a human turned dragon in Ezio’s mind (also, at this point, Ezio has been all alone and Leonardo is the first human to ever look at him like he’s not scary at all)

So the plots would be: (Plot A) Ezio and Leonardo bonding with Ezio as a dragon (if this is meant to be EziLeo, it would be more of Ezio falling in love with Leonardo while Leonardo was harboring hidden feelings for human!Ezio, never saying anything at all), and (Plot B) Claudia, Giovanni, Federico looking for Ezio while keeping everybody else (especially the Borgias) from learning about Ezio’s ‘connection’ to the white dragon. An optional (Plot C) if this isn’t EziLeo were Ezio’s chosen love interest is looking for Ezio on their own and knows the Auditore family is hiding something.

uhh what works for me in a story?

I mean, different writers have different skills. So it's not like, dialogue over cool plot twists or anything. It *is* characters, to a degree. Maybe the largest degree? Of the factors affecting how much I personally enjoy a story, characterization is probably the biggest. (It isn't necessary for me to like a character or think they're hot or badass, but I do have to relate to them, and their characterization has to be consistent to them. A lot of writers force the characters to conform to the plot the authors want and it feels like when you watch a tv show all the way to the end and in the last episode they suddenly do an about face on every issue they've been dealing with the whole time because the studio wanted a different ending.)

But really, ultimately, whether someone is writing a romance or not, the thing that is required for me to enjoy a story is that the author knows what story they are trying to tell and does so to the best of their ability.

Which sounds insulting or something I think. But there are stories I enjoy with fairly weak writing, and stories with excellent writing that I do not care for at all. Technical skill is great and can make decent into good or great, but an author who has set out to tell the story they want and does that with every tool they have? That is where fun stuff happens.

This is vague, probably. I have been a whiny Mary Musgrove with a headache all day.

But it just means, say, if you are writing a shifter fated mates romance (for one example) or a vampire workplace romance (for another), then that is what you're writing. Presumably (unless you are an underpaid and overworked ghostwriter on Fiverr checking off points in a manuscript you were hired to write), you chose a fated mates shifter story because you are into it. You like aspects of that. You are hitting those tropes because you as the writer enjoy them (and not just ticking off points you think will sell. That always shows.) or you want to have fun with them. You are writing romance because, presumably, you enjoy romance. You are writing shifters because... whatever it is about that idea that appeals to you. (Rough sex, scenting kink, biting, just having cool magic powers, whatever.) And to do this, you have constructed a story which appeals to you and created a plot that makes sense--and plots usually make sense if the characters in them make sense.

Then you add in fated mates, and to make that interesting, writers generally put in a Difficulty. A reason that something like a fated soulmate is not working out. That part is trickier but it's done all the time. Romance or not. Shifters or not. There will be Difficulties.

The problems (for me. This is just for me I know) is that because of the genre, the temptation is to not dwell on the consequences of the Difficulties too much. It's a romance. It's fantasy. I get it. But some authors do... truly outrageously over the top trauma or issues for their Difficulty and it's just... never properly dealt with. It weakens their characterizations, which weakens the plot and so on and so forth.

Most people do not care. I know this. It bugs the shit out of me. For me, it's like there is a strong or reasonably strong first half of the story, and then the second half sort of... dwindles. The story just starts ticking off boxes instead of being the story it started out being.

It drives me nuts.

Consistent characterization supports the plot! It makes the romance (or mystery or drama etc) stronger! It can even help write your dialogue for you! Know your characters! Stop suddenly trying to force them into story beats that do not fit with the story that was originally written!

uh. This still makes no sense.

But also.

Some writers, in romance I notice it a lot but I think it's everywhere. Romance might just have other factors but anyway. Some writers cross genres and forget they are writing a romance, so the romance elements feel noticeably secondary.

That's another ding against them for me. The stories would probably be amazing as like, historical mysteries *with romantic elements* instead of *romance/historical/mystery* I would read both, but the categories need to be changed. Erotic romance, obv the erotica comes first (ba dum bum bum). Romance with erotica... the romance should.

So that's another factor. I've read a few published stories where the plot was interesting, there were fun ideas at play or an amazingly written scene I loved... but the romance still felt secondary. Then don't label that shit romance first is all I ask.

(Which is probably hypocritical of me. My stories are all over the place. But this is about me as a reader so)

All this is for books and stories I want to read, btw, Like. Thackery was telling the story he wanted to tell in Vanity Fair and I still hate that fucking book so much. For one example. Ahem.

Hi anon, this is a pretty long response, I hope you’re okay with that😅

I’ve mini shifted before (through a method) and I’ve also shifted 1 other time through a lucid dream(my dream wasn’t completely lucid so when I made the portal, I shifted to the wrong reality😓). But it’s okay because that was before I made my avatar dr. In my bio I have “perma shifter,” that actually means that I’m permanently shifting to pandora so once I shift to my desired reality, I won’t come back and I’ll just stay there forever.

As for shifting tips, I’ve actually had so many SUPER close shifts, and one where I heard Jake’s voice and felt mo’at waking me up while Lo’ak was above me, shaking me to see if I was okay (since I scripted that when I shift to my dr, I just completed my dream hunt). For that one, all I did was lay down, started to think about the easiest thing to visualize from my dr (which is Lo’ak for some reason) and then just imagined in my head the sound of jakes voice telling me to wake the hell up (since that sounds like something he would say) and I focused on just being there and tried to convince myself that behind my closed eyelids was hometree and the omaticaya and that I was laying on a hard rock. I didn’t even try to affirm, I was just trying to imagine being there for fun since I enjoy thinking about pandora and then I felt myself vibrating, I heard chattering, I felt the warmth of a fire pit that was used to roast meat(like how jake and neytiri shared food in the first movie) and I felt the presence of mo’at in front of me (like when you can just feel someone there staring at you) and I felt my surroundings change (my bed felt harder, like if I was laying on a rocky floor) and I just felt my atmosphere start to change. Unfortunately I got distracted from a noise from here and the sensations stopped. But I was very motivated by that experience!

I think what I got from that is to basically try to convince yourself that you’re not trying to shift and you’re not here while doing your method. So essentially, try to really believe and convince yourself that you’re already in your desired reality and forget about here and forget about symptoms. You’re there, now focus on the feelings of being there, your atmosphere, what you hear, see, smell etc. use your senses to the best of your ability!

Another close shifting attempt (actually 2 more recently) was from following a hypno method.

basically lay down on your back, best if the room is dark and relax and then look up at a point in the ceiling(any where just look up at a spot and try to keep your eye there). Then breathe in very slowly and affirm in your head”I’m very sleepy” and breathe out slowly “I’m in a deep sleep.” Do that about 5-10x then close your eyes and move on to the next step.

2. after that (with your eyes closed) breathe in very slowly “I’m shifting to ___” and breathe out slowly “I’m in ___”

ex: breathe in “I’m shifting to pandora” breathe out “I’m in pandora” and do that 10-15x. while doing this, try to visualize your desired reality to the best of your ability.

3. Finally, breathe in very slowly “I’m in ____” and breathe out very slowly “(a fact about yourself)”

ex: in “I’m in pandora” out “my name is ____”

in “I’m in pandora” out “I’m ___ years old”

more examples of facts about yourself “I’m in my avatar form”

“my hair is __”

“I’m dating___”

“I’m part of the omaticaya clan”

“my height is ___”

“my skin is blue”

basically anything about your dr(desired reality) self.

remember to keep on visualizing while doing that and don’t focus on trying to get symptoms. Just try to really believe that you’re already there and that’ll help a lot. while doing that 3rd final step, at some point you should feel symptoms. It is a very powerful method and I felt symptoms almost right away the first time I tried it out. I was EXTREMELY close to shifting and even felt my eyes start to flutter, my heartbeat going fast, my mind spinning, feeling like my body was levitating etc.

ofc there are many ways to shift such as just relaxing and laying down and visualizing and affirming that you shifted/you’re in your dr. or laying down and using your senses to imagine what you hear there, smell there, etc. you can go by the senses 1 by 1 if you want and ask yourself, what do you hear and imagine the sounds from there and then what do you see and visualize it or you can try to imagine the senses all at once. the best advice I can give you is keeping a good mindset towards shifting and not thinking it’s hard or else you’ll manifest it being hard(wether you believe in manifesting or not, that’s a fact that it’ll only make it harder and more difficult for you if you keep on affirming to yourself that you’ll never shift or that it’s impossible etc) Think of it like, omg this is so easy, I’m always successful at shifting. Keep that positive mindset and it’ll help you so much!

there’s more to manifesting and things like that but this response is already getting long. Send in another ask if you want me to get more into it lol. I will say that if you are interested in manifesting, just use law of assumption and not loa(law of attraction) since loa is so complicated and hard. law of assumption is so easy, you just pick what to manifest and persist in the assumption that you have it by affirming and not letting your mind doubt it that’s it. You can even manifest at that you’re always successful at shifting.
