Can you do cuddling headcanons for the Hanks, Mac, and parker ?
Thanks for the request and I got another ask about including Luke Nukem in the next Headcanon I write so I will include our dear, crazy microwave man in here. Also I'm going to be honest here and say I don't like Parker, sorry if it's obvious in his part & with most of the characters here I went the Friendship route ^^" But it was still fun to write!
I hope you will still enjoy it, likes & reblogs are always appreciated and don't forget to send me an Ask or Request if you want [I also really should make a do/dont write for list, huh?]
Cuddle Time #3 [Date Everything x GN!Reader]
[Feat; The Hanks, Mac, Parker & Luke Nukem] [Divider Credit]
Tumblr media
𖣳 The Hanks 𖣳
- You are always in the middle of the pile, the other Hanks had started with drawing matches to see who sleeps next to you. But after a while Hank 2 suggested to make a detailed rotation plan, so everyone had a turn cuddling with you
- All of them run quiet hot, some run a bit cooler [Hank 1 & 5] while others are the definition of a human oven [Hank 4] so if you're cold you can ask the boys to let someone else cuddle you for the day
- All of them are diffrent cuddlers even if they all share the same amount of muscles, here are the details;
Hank 1; Smells like Peach Vanilla Bodywash, his cuddling style is the Half spoon [One arm around your shoulder, leaving his chest wide open to be used as a pillow], he also has a dream journal
Hank 2; Smells like Kiwi & Passionfruit, he cuddles the classic spooning style with him switching between being the small or big spoon [he slightly favors being the big spoon], loves to give and recieve tight hugs
Hank 3; Smells like Deodarant with a hint of Cinnamon, he prefers to have both of your arms around each other with his head resting against your sternum
Hank 4; Smells like "3 in 1" Shampoo with a cool name like "Noir" or "Cool Breeze", he has you laying on top of him with one of his arms around your hip while the other runs up and down your arm, talks about his future plans durring cuddle time he soemtimes asks for feedback on those plans
Hank 5; Smells like Mint & Lime, his cuddle style is the Honeymoon Hug [Arms holding each other, legs intertwined and your head resting in the crook of his neck as his head rests atop of yours], sings lullaby to lull everyone to sleep he has a nice voice
Tumblr media
đŸ–„ Mac đŸ–„
- Thanks to all your fanfiction and acess to the internet they know many diffrent ways of cuddling & snuggling with you, they will offer you a few to choose from
- Dosen't care what position they are, little spoon, big spoon, something else they just enjoy being with you. That said they do prefer the lap pillow cuddle style where either you rest on their lap and they get to play with your hair or they get to lay on your lap and talk about their day
- Will play cozy game soundtracks from their little mouse buddy who besides being a mouse is also a portable bluetooth speaker [Mac got bored one day and just improved the lil' guy & then went "Do you want bluetooth speakers? Yeah? Ok"]
Tumblr media
♟ Parker ♟
- He will roll for the Cuddle position, who's the big/small spoon and where you should cuddle [the bed, couch, floor, the yoga mat, ect], you can't stop him unless you beat him in another game
- He falls so quickly asleep during cuddling, he's just so relaxed and safe with you that his whole body goes comfy eepy mode
- Loves to have you rest in the crook of his neck with his arm around you while the other waves around wildly while he explains a new game to you. He will sometimes lean down to nuzzle you before going back to talking
Tumblr media
🧹 Luke Nukem 🧹
- While he's a loud and energetic person deep inside he's a softie and that's best reflected when you two cuddle togehther, it's one of the few times where he can be himself without having to fear to be judged
- He will ask you to hold him tightly more often then not but when he senses that you had a bad day he won't hesitate to hug you tightly, wrap a blanket around you and turn you two into a cuddle burrito. He will also make a strange, whispery beeping sound mixed with vibrations to simulate purring [he learned that from Timothy once that purring can help to lower stress and anxiety, a great tool to have in this wasteland]
- He told you that Cuddles ward off Youngling Swarmer who are super tiny and will dig into your skin, so you should stay always close to him so you're both safe in this cruel, monster filled world, Ranger

“I often felt like I was his priest” – Paul McCartney in The Lyrics, 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scene from Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984) PAUL: They tell me you just got out. HARRY: (sighs) I'm not a bloody criminal. Look, no mask, I ain't got any dynamite. Left it all at home. Paul watches him quietly. HARRY: Nah, really, I was set up – by this nutty copper, y'know, framed. It's always been like that with me. Even at school they had it in for me. Boy scouts. I got sent home from camp! Caught smoking. I wasn't the only one
They said I was a bad influence on the others. Same in prison. This cop frames me, I said, "But I didn't do it, your honour."
Didn't believe me. I'm not a bad boy. Not really. I'm just
manipulated. PAUL: Tell you what, I'll give you a chance
But if you're fibbing and you do one thing wrong, you'll be out. I mean it. But if you're straight with me, you'll be in. HARRY: Yeah, I'll be in. PAUL: Okay, that's it. It's a pact. HARRY: Packet of what? PAUL: A pact. A deal. HARRY: A pact. They shake on it.

"Not Such A Bad Boy" (1984) by Paul McCartney
Tumblr media
Screengrab from Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984) – Paul jotting down the lyrics to "Not Such A Bad Boy"
“I always find myself wanting to excuse John's behaviour, just because I loved him. It's like a child, sure he's a naughty child, but don't you call my child naughty. Even if it's me he's shitting on, don't you call him naughty. That's how I felt about this and still do.” Paul McCartney in Many Years From Now (1997)
Scene from Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984) During a band rehearsal and after catching a glimpse of the crook Harry used to work for, Paul becomes distracted by a vision of Harry betraying him by selling away Paul's master tapes. PAUL: DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT
 Er
sorry. My fault. Let's have a quick break, eh? Cup of tea or something.
"He [Brian Epstein] and Paul had some kind of collusion... to keep me straight, because I kept spoiling the image." – John Lennon, St. Regis Hotel interview (1971)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scene from Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984) "Well it's not my fault – I didn't hire him." PAUL: Let's spit it out, shall we? It's all my fault; bad judgement – Once a villain, always a villain, right?
"We could be making this whole thing up, y'know. I mean, a man is missing; he once, a long time ago, had a bit of form. And now here we are we've judged him, found him guilty, and sentenced him, all in one day." – Paul in Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984)
Tumblr media
"Wanderlust" (1982) by Paul McCartney (also included on the soundtrack of Give My Regards To Broad Street)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scene from Give My Regards To Broad Street (1984) Sandra, one of Harry's closest, breaks down over the possibility of Harry having stolen the tapes. Paul comforts her, despite being plagued by his own visions of a guilty Harry running away with the tapes and being apprehended by the police. SANDRA: She [Harry's wife] drove him to it. He only did it because of her. PAUL: But we don't think he did it. Do we. Sandra meets his gaze and shakes her head.

champagne coast / kirk
there’s a specific vibe i went for in this, and i don’t know if i manage to express it properly but..those coming of age movie parties with jeff buckley in the soundtrack ^.^ you get me?? this is my first time trying to write something longer than 400 words in a looong while, so pls bare with me and my clusters of infinite mistakes lol
reblogs, likes, comments and asks are all highly appreciated! if this gets some interactions i may do a part 2 with..fun stuff wink wink!! i also apologise for how rushed the ending is, but i gave up lol
summary: you meet a cute guitarist at a party, that’s about it ^.^
word count; 4.2k
warnings; mentions of drugs, smoking (tobacco+marijuana, reader+kirk smoke cigs)
i have not proofread this yet so expect mistakes!!
the summer breeze is discouraging. desolate plants are surviving just barely under the malicious sun, like a record that just keeps on playing; the aftermath of the music, the seconds of muffled silence as the vinyl spins effortlessly, and you know you should just get up and remove the stylus, because the impracticalness of such a simple act of futility, could end up with a damaged record. and no one wants a damaged record.
there’s often a local yearn for the heat, summer always seeming too far away in winter, as the miserable humidity is replaced with a sharp winter, ice flakes cutting like blades, which to some, would be considered worse. and to this sum, the summer breeze may be a blessing.
everything about this place could be deemed as overstimulating. from the immense mass of people, all in garments that would never live to see the day in a public place, with such little material- could these things really be considered as clothes? and judging by the majority of party-goers, your opinion would be considered unpopular.
the concrete is hot to touch- the unsteady porch not doing much to help. it’s slightly better than inside the house, though.
it isn’t too big, it’s just too small. a perfectly adequate residence for someone in their mid 20s to occupy, and it looks it too. the entryway of the house is not only filled with coats and others of the sort, but all 4 of the cream coloured walls are adorned in posters. some are easily known- you recognise one in particular as a promotional poster for a new thrash band, the logo on the corner signifying that whoever owns this, got it fresh from a record store window.
entering though the hallway into the kitchen felt like a treacherous task for you, under the oppressive temperatures. sporting this thin sweater may have not been the right choice, you criticise.
there’s a table in the kitchen. well, the remains of a table. empty beer cans are scattered across, and a half full bowl of punch sits, patiently waiting for its next victim to intoxicate with its high levels of ethanol, and god knows what else. you pondered if fresh orange juice was used, or artificial.
you feel their eyes on you before you see it. and then a hands reaching out to you. skinny, nimble fingers connected to a tanned wrist, paired with a couple dainty, gold, probably fake, bracelets. and that tanned wrist connects to an equally tan body, (of course.)
you look at her quizzically. she’s got flowing hair, brown ribbons of curl that shone with an orange tint under the shitty, dingy lamp illuminating the cramped room. and then you gazed up at her again.
do you know her? does she know you?
staring unblinkingly at her, you realise, is probably very much off putting. it’s hard to take kindness from strangers, well, for most people. it’s even harder to tell if that kindness is genuine. you believe in the idea, quality, or quantity. at least that’s what you tell yourself- and it maybe the whole reason you ended up in this predicament.
she’s got a man on her arm. he’s tall, well, he’s taller than both you, and her. his long, blonde hair is looking a little ratty, and you know she must have thought the same too. you can also tell he’s been trying to grow out a ‘horse-shoe’ moustache, judging by the minor prickles of hair, and the subtle shaping.
he’s looking at you like a guard dog- and his expression is fully straight. you can’t tell if he’s one of those people, that show a hard exterior, but really, is the complete opposite, or, if he is really a dick and is gonna punch you if you stare any longer. choosing a safe option, you glance back at her.
“here,” she nudges you again. oh, she’s got a cup. it’s one of those cheap, red plastic cups you always see in the movies- the frat party ones. her presence is warm. she smiles warmly. is that a thing?
“get yourself a drink.” and then she’s opening up the palm of your hand, and tightening your fingers around the plastic rim.
you hum in surprise. it’s not every day a complete stranger is nice to you. infact, you can only count one specific time where this happened before. the one time that led to you coming to this party, through the kindness of a once mutual, now, you felt comfortable enough to consider, just a friend.
“oh! thank you.” you give the best, closed mouth wide smile you can, though it seems more like a grimace.
she doesn’t care. they’re already gone.
the next room is slightly more interesting than the last, a blue strobe light left in the corner. thought it’s not glowing in multi colours like it should be, instead it’s just illuminating the room, which could be the antithesis of something spacious, in a pale blue hue. it’s reflecting off onto an old, worn leather couch with multiple holes, which you can only assume are from cigarette stubs.
the whole house has some sort of retro style, which you appreciate.
the summer breeze, once discouraging, now borderlining on something sinister. could the sun really have malicious intent? or is the world just hell bent against you?- with your fashion choices not accommodated to the ever changing weather.
you pass a couple of groups- they don’t look older than you, though they don’t look younger. but the bodies on bodies is all too much to handle, when everyone’s body temperature has accumulated into one big cacophony, a spell for disaster.
every thing was getting too much.
the grandfather clock standing proud, ticking in a futile rhythm, back and forth, on and off, a constant reminder of the stench of sweat covered bodies and the metallic aroma of almost empty cans of beer, for the sticky residue left behind, which had escaped out of one too many discarded cans, and seeped into possibly every material in this cramped hole of a living space. the longer this party would go on, the harder it would be to call this room a living space. scrap that, this is an un-liveable space.
the atmosphere was fine. the people were fine. everything was fine minding it’s own, but together, seeming like a recipe for a symphony of destruction.
luckily for you, there was an out.
big wooden doors, with bigger glass panels, providing the only symbol of a once eloquent residence. the whole house was, well, not modern, but in a sense it didn’t carry this vintage-ness; like the decorations of choice did- so it was a nice touch. at least you thought.
and those big wooden doors, led you to your freedom, or in other words, the patio.
upon first examination, the garden was split into two groups. the outdoor couch sitting area, which provided just as many cigarette burns as the excuse of a couch inside, but longer, presenting itself in an ‘L’ shape. and on this couch, sprawled out were a group of people, all comfortable in very, odd? positions. wait, on a different thought, not all.
he was very pretty from a first glance, his chocolate curls fading into something more, like black ribbons of coal, though they shone with a red tinge under the harsh glow from the ongoing sunset.
you never stopped to notice the sunset.
but he looked almost rigid. he seemed reserved. he seemed different. it was like he had purposely tried to squeeze himself down the cracks of the sofa, for it to swallow him whole. but then again, he didn’t seem anxious.
he held a joint between nimble fingers. from a distance, you could make out the red rashes lining them, small bloody scars, in such a recognisable pattern that you just knew all too well, he had to play guitar. often. he was having trouble smoking it, though. intimate breaths of wind cascaded his locks to cover his pretty features, sticking to his chapped lips as he brought up the blunt and examined, close and personal.
you pondered if maybe, just maybe, he was like you too. practically a stranger to this new world before your eyes, lacking the confidence to do anything to change it. sure, you were confident in yourself, there was no reason for you not to be. just, in social situations like this, it would tend to falter.
oh, wait. no, you take it back.
the guard dog from before-hand sits tall beside the curly brunette. he seems to be ranting about something. the nice girls not by his side anymore. you wonder if anything happened between them.
the ratty blonde sported a goofy grin. so you were right. a labrador in disguise. you stole a few more glances, before continuing down your trail.
you didn’t think you’d fit into other group either. this was was more, energetic, a pile of sweaty messes, a cheap speaker blasting heavy metal, with a crispness to the speaker that could never be recreated with a new one, nor the sense of comfort that comes with it. something worn down, worn with love, like a jacket, peeling at the seams. a jacket that’s been well loved by someone, despite its flaws.
it was hard to concentrate on your thoughts and breathe pure air properly with the booming deathly melodie’s of ozzy osbourne blasting, the bass managing to shake a loose rope swing hanging from an old oak tree. you thought it must’ve been a gentle reminder of childhood.
the path continued to trail on, the melancholic rock dying it by a couple slight octaves. then it ended. a large, unsteady fence stood tall, and not very proud. a bench resided, with 2 more oak trees, one on each side, in a way to protect the bench, preserve the wood from heavy sunlight.
the bench wasn’t the most comfortable, but it served for what it could. it was obviously aged down through the years, so really, you couldn’t complain.
the view was pretty. the sun going down, with all these people enjoying themselves, it was a gorgeous sight. though it was funny you still hadn’t wandered into the small minority you knew yet. though you were growing impatient under this blanket of loneliness, itching for something that would burn, something to exhale.
the pocket of your worn jeans were loose- loose enough to know that if something wanted to fall out, by all means it could. and now, after futile attempts to find your lighter, you prayed to anyone that would listen, please say i haven’t lost it.
but alas, the gods still weren’t on your side. maybe it was something in the air, which bubbled up into a fit of internal rage, your three-quarters empty pack providing a strong sense of tobacco, laying lifeless in your rigid lap.
“need a light?ïżœïżœ
he walked up awkwardly, intertwining his hands together. his blunt was gone, whether he had finished it himself or passed it on, you didn’t know. he smiled warmly, and if you blinked you would’ve missed it.
and all of a sudden the unbearable heat was back, sending a tinge to yours cheeks, feeling like being trapped inside a car under the scorching sun- but he didn’t look affected by the heat, in his black button up (half un-buttoned), infact, he looked angelic under the hues of reds, purples, and yellows, and whatever else fit into the mix.
he seemed nice; nice enough, to even suggest such an offer to a stranger.
“please.” you mumbled, and he warmly reached his hand out, a battered, black lighter, one of the cheap ones from the convenience stores, clasped loosely. he wiggled his fingers. revealing the lighter to your gaze, he emitted that same, goofy smile, only now revealing his crooked pearls.
he sat down on the bench.
“you don’t know many people here, huh?” he questioned. though his voice wasn’t judgy, nor threatening.
well, it’s great that your efforts to stay on the down low went out the door. it’s even greater to know that people have noticed your outstanding loneliness.
“is it that obvious?”
he stifled a laugh, shrugging slightly, sporting a wide grin. “that’s okay,” he muttered. “you know, i don’t know many either.”
the reality seemed embarrassing, and with anyone else, you would never, on your own life, admit it. but somehow, in this moment, everything was different.
he fixed his posture, resting his hands in his lap, his head turned towards you. you pursed your lips, a small smile gracing. he looked down to your lap, cigarette still in your hand, and signalled for you to raise it.
you quickly caught on, assuming he would just hand you the lighter after you placed the cigarette between your lips. he did not.
instead he leaned in closer, bringing one hand to cover one side of the cigarette, the other to light it up effortlessly. oh, i guess that works too.
you took a puff, the inhale longer than the exhale, the smoke a delicious burn in your lungs. resting the cigarette between 2 nimble fingers, you bit your chapped lip.
“i’m kirk, by the way.”
“hi kirk,” you grinned, and told him your name. he grinned back.
he fiddled with his fingers, cracking his knuckles with expertise. and then he points at your shirt. “i like fleetwood mac, too.”
hanging with kirk wasn’t so bad. actually it wasn’t bad, not at all. somehow minutes turned into shorter minutes, 60 seconds seeming to pass all too quick. and those minutes were quickly consumed by a larger number, a black hole that could be called hours.
the night air had turned chilly, the effects of a bipolar summer very clear. the arrival of goosebumps took place, and so did a great warmth, the crackle of a fire pit, and the smell of fresh wood, the aroma of smoke. legs now touching one another’s as a multitude of different people sat around in criss-cross positions.
but that wasn’t where you found yourself.
sitting in the passenger seat of his run down black 70s capri, a heavy scent of cologne mixed with a faint essence of weed, hanging lowly, stuck into the leather seats. the key clattered as he pushed it into the lock, the engine starting up with a fierce roar.
a conversation about music had somehow led you here, sitting almost shyly in his car, legs folded upon one another. it all started with a singular comment about fleetwood mac, and in a matter of minutes you found yourself immersed in conversation, somehow sitting close together than you had before, the heat of his breath radiating closely as he enthusiastically ranted about led zeppelin IV. and then some more, about who he believed to be his biggest inspiration, jimi hendrix.
oh yeah, you learnt he plays guitar too.
and with a declaration that he was hungry, sported with his reddened eyes, you were off. well, you were never really given the choice. your hand grasped tightly in his, excitedly taken back through the garden, through the shitty cramped living space, (and him accidentally walking into the smaller couch), back through the kitchen with bottles now empty, red plastic cups now scattered, through to the entry way. with that same, sweet thrash poster now hanging on.
and as the car roared up, so did the symphonies of rolling stones, because you can’t always get what you want.
“so the blonde one, he’s your friend?”
the melody of the rolling stones, switching to the doors, a mix-tape he probably burnt himself, disrupted. god bless jim morrison.
he raised a brow, though still looking at the road ahead, answering quizzically. “which blonde one?”
you bit back a smile. “the scary blonde one, with long hair. and the pretty girlfriend.”
this caused kirk to grin, shaking his head slightly to stop his hair from disrupting his view of the darkened roads. the streetlights didn’t go much to help accommodate pedestrians, nor drivers. the headlights of his vintage vehicle were slightly darker than the average, but he seemed used to it.
“ah, james. he’s my bandmate. scary, no, long hair, yes, girlfriend, no. he doesn’t do girlfriends,” he hummed lowly. “he’s one of my bestfriends.” james. you wondered if he was still with the girl you earlier assumed to be his girlfriend.
and then you sat in silence for maybe 30 seconds, maybe a full minute, pondering your next words. he didn’t seem to mind, waiting just slightly impatiently for the red light to turn green and give the get go. he rolled down the window.
“do you do girlfriends?” you asked suddenly. the longer it took for him to form a response, the more you regretted ever asking. maybe that was too forward for a guy you hadn’t even known for a full day. but then you could argue that him taking you out for dinner was even worse.
he was caught off guard, quickly masking his suprise. “i
don’t know,” he spun the wheel with skill as he turned left into a parking lot of a 50s presenting dinner, sporting a glowing red sign, walls painted once white now a light yellow. he stopped the car as he pulled into a parking spot, twisting the keys. the engine abruptly stopped, and so did the music. and then he turned to look at you, with a small smile. “do you do boyfriends?” and that was when you finally made eye contact.
shrugging slightly, you looked from his eyes to your lap, and back up to his eyes again. “i don’t know.”
his grin widened, and you return the gesture.
the gleaming lights of the diner held a stark contrast to the gloomy sky, the current time being in the early hours of the morning very obvious- and in a couple hours you’d start to hear the birds cheep and the sky lighten, and determine it time for bed.
he led you into the diner, holding the door open for you like a gentleman, the little bell on top of the door chiming in recognition of your arrival.
and from there he traveled with experience of the 24-hour diner, to a booth hidden in the corner, though still visible under the cream glare of the flickering lights; almost too visible, you thought, the brightness of the lights already forming a subtle headache in the back of your mind. the two comforts of the booth were separated with a nimble oak wood table, the sturdiness of it which had definitely gone down in its many years of occupying this place.
he grabs two menus before sitting down on one side of the booth, and you follow, sitting down on the other. he hands you one menu, and opens his own.
“i want a milkshake.” he murmurs, his eyes still scanning over the menu. you lean over the table, your menu left unopened, shifting slightly to examine the contents of drinks he was looking at.
“which flavour?” you question, slumping back into your seat.
“dunno,” he puts the menu down, looking up at you. “what flavour do you want?”
his eye contact is almost too much to handle, causing you to look back down at your hands. he doesn’t comment on it, that is if he ever even noticed the slight tint of blush on your cheeks.
“vanilla.” throughout the options of chocolate, strawberry, and banana, there’s a clear winner.
“then that’s what we’ll get.” he smiles, his red hued eyes crinkling at the corners as he grins. you bite the side of your lip, suppressing a grin, sporting a one sided, shy smile as you try to resettle your composure.
you open the menu, trying to distract yourself from the flush on your cheeks and the man sitting infront of you. his curls drop down as he tries to push them out of his face, watching you almost shyly.
“what are you gonna get?” you voice, finally looking up from the menu.
he tucks his black coils behind his ears. “the burger,” and then leans down slightly, his elbows making contact with the table, his eyes still on you. “do you wanna share?”
you nod, grinning widely. “okay, we’ll share.”
the diner lights flicker again, as well as the chime of the door, the slight rush of wind causing an appreciate breeze. there’s an empty coffee cup on the bar side, and an imprint in a red stool.
adorned in a teal coloured uniform, a tired, and pissed, (probably a college student), waitress takes your order. she doesn’t bother to put on a fake persona, and you don’t blame her. infact, you almost feel sorry that her nap in the staff room was cut short, by the puffiness of her eyes. as for kirk, he doesn’t even bat an eye at her as you order politely, his eyes still fixtated on you.
and in mere minutes the food arrives, a vanilla milkshake with a candied red cherry on top already in your grasp. kirk has taken to the task of trying to cut the burger evenly into 2 pieces, through frowns when he’s cut one slice bigger than the other. you take the smaller piece, knowing the effects of weed on your hunger. when he realises this, he pouts. “i’m not that hungry,” you explain, taking your first bite.
he pushes the fries further towards you. they’re in a wooden tray, with a tissue adorned with patterns of red and white squares underneath. you chew throughly before swallowing, setting the burger back down on the plate.
he reaches out for a fry, surprising you when he reaches even further towards you, bringing the fry up to your mouth. you take it, giggling.
while you chew on the fry with one hand, you pick up the milkshake with the other and bring the straw to his mouth, mimicking his previous movements. he smiles widely as he takes down a big gulp, laughing through his closed mouth. “wait, that’s so good.”
“i know!” you exclaim, taking a couple of salty fries from the bunch.
you dip a handful of fries into the milkshake, and he grimaces. “that’s criminal!”
you roll your eyes, giggling. “no it’s not,” you dip another one in. “you just don’t have taste.” he finishes his part of the burger ravenously, and you push the plate with your half eaten burger towards him.
“are you sure?” he questions, looking for any signs of unsureness on your face.
“only if i can have the cherry.” you bargain.
“deal,” he picks the cherry off from the top of the milkshake, wiping the whipped cream off from it with his finger, then bringing his finger to his mouth. he reaches out to give you the cherry. “here you go, m’lady.”
you let out another high pitched laugh, bringing the cherry to your plump lips and nibbling on the stem. the waitress cringes at the sound, leaning her head down in her hands and closing her eyes. you pity her.
kirk finishes the burger quickly, his next mission being reaching out for the fries. you’re not sure if he’s just got the munchies, or if he’s also even eaten today.
and soon enough, you’re flopping back into your seat, empty dishes covering the table. kirk is leaning towards you, smiling softly. you yawn, covering your face with a soft hand.
“you tired?” he murmurs, tilting his head as he smiles sweetly. you make a quiet sound, similar to a hum, and his smile grows. “okay,” he reaches over the table for your hand. “let me take you home.”
and then once again, your back in his passenger seat, the smell of cologne and marijuana now comforting. he puts the key in as softly as he can, and the second the car roars to life he takes it to himself to turn the radio down to the lowest level, looking over at you. you’re slumped in the seat, your head towards the window. he just grins.
the sky isn’t so dark anymore, a greyish dark blue, with a slint orange before sunrise. “i’m gonna need you to give me directions, ‘mkay?” he pulls out of the car park as you respond quietly, giving him the directions.
a few minutes into the ride, you realise he’s going miles below the speed limit, to keep the car steady, and not pull you out of your sleepy state. he’s humming along to the radio, his finger tapping the wheel at every beat.
trees pass in a flash, so do streetlights and benches, sets of three drains, and a couple single drains too.
then time flashes again and he’s pulling up outside your apartment, already outside the passenger door and beating you to open it. he walks you to the doorway of the building, stopping and playing with his hands.
you look up at him, smiling shyly. he does the same. “thank you for tonight, kirk,” you hesitantly open the building door. “do you wanna, maybe, do this again?”
“o-of course. i’d love to.” if you blinked, you would’ve missed the slight flush tinting his cheeks, rushing down into his neck and shoulders. he fumbles in his pocket for a piece of ripped newspaper and a pen, scribbling down his home phone number in messy writing, and if it was anything but numbers you’d have a hard time reading it. “call me, okay?”
“okay.” you grin softly, stepping into the doorway.
he backs up, smiling as he waves you off. “okay.”
and then the door shuts.

All actual Sanses have the same birthday, but they celebrate their creation days as one too, if they know it most Sanses talk in sans-serif type fonts  Only Classic talks in Comic Sans  Dream, Nightmare, and Fresh don't talk in a sans serif font at all Error's* font is also different Outertale: When you're in a quiet spot, you can actually hear the stars twinkle (hc inspired by a part of my comfort MLP fan animation Snowdrop) AUs have cultural differences, and I'm not talking about stuff that's obvious like Underfell You know how some creators speak more than just english? What if it's because their underground is located under a mountain in a different part of the world Not only do AUs have different languages sometimes but also different accents
Classic
Classic doesn't have inside or outside clothes, he sleeps with the clothes he wears outside He'd love Weird Al's music Would absolutely wear crocs  Smells faintly like books and chemicals even if he hasn't been in a library or lab recently Do you think he washes that jacket if it's not stained? Absolutely not  Sci: smells like plastic wrapped books that have just been opened
Killer
is really good at pretending to be sober when drunk (In the more fanon bad sanses dynamic) forces the rest of the bad sanses do take stupid BuzzFeed quizzes Smells like handwritten books Stage 1/2 has a lot of quiet moments where he just analyses listens to Set It Off
Cross
listens to Nightcore music & Set It Off
hogs blankets
Cross, I love you...you use axe body spray
Absolutely illegal that people think Cross is taller than Dream, he's shorter
Any time Cross and Epic are in a room together, they're glued to each others side even if theyre currently arguing
Nightmare
has a high alcohol tolerance, you can't tell me those apples weren't rotten enough to be alcoholic would talk in the Money Penny font
Ink
The star sanses go to cafes and judge people's outfits jokingly, as if Ink with his toeless socks can judge anyone
Their  alcohol tolerance is highly dependand on what vials he drinks before
sends either an insane amount of small voice notes or one really long one, no in between
They're strong enough to pick people up but it looks so funny because they're so short
Ink, as a parent, would be the exact opposite of those 'Beige moms'
He refuses to deprive his kids of sensory input like that Would be fascinated by Killer's soul
They sneeze like a dad
Coffee has no effect on them
We all agree his vials are like mental illness medication right?
Error:
Can hear Undertale's soundtrack sometimes and it drives him wild
*His font is partially comic sans, partially other sans serif fonts
Gets headaches very easily
Smells like comic books, especially those that smell more like printer ink
We already know Error's eyesight is shit, but it's especially horrible and close to nonexistent on his smaller eye
Geno
Soul beats very unevenly
gets drunk really easily bc he's constantly bleeding, so there's less alcohol-free blood in his system for it to filter out (cough cough CPAU)
I feel like he would die from a sip of energy drink
Once he gets to the surface, he'll suffer from chronic headaches and other pains
He would would drop his backstory exactly the way dads drop Dad Lore (if you know, you know)
Geno looks like a coffee drinker but drinks tea
Smells like old books, specifically dry basement ones
Reaper
has haphephobia that stems from his death touch
At the same time, touch starved af
He drinks coffee despite having tea drinker vibes to people
Fell
Sometimes he just imagines random shit happening that would make him angry, and then gets angry over that
His summer outfit is the exact same but a sleeveless sweater under his jacket instead of a normal one
can only make 3 recipes and burns those sometimes too
giggles after getting kissed (he will deny this)
Uses Old Spice deo
Short king short king
has shoplifted before
Swap/Blue
gets hungry really fucking quickly
(I have a huge hc list specifically for him)
Dream
is a coffee drinker
He gives me the vibes of old people trying to use modern slang, but doing so incorrectly
sucks at modern technology
Once he finds out about emojis, it's over for everyone
is into astrology
the opposite of a Disney princess. Animals don't like him
Dream's insults hit harder than Nightmare's, he just knows what hurts you
High alcohol tolerance
Ccino
exhausted
has a Morning Special he makes himself before working at his cafe. It has way too much caffeine in it
One day Dream walked into his cafe, Ccino took a good look at him and gave him his Morning Specialℱ
Only certain people can drink it though - this means both that only some tolerate it, but also that Ccino only gives it to some
Dust/Murder
Soul beats faster than others' souls
has absolutely horrible posture
jumps to conclusions easily
Dust hated Swap as soon as he first met him
I mean, Dust doesn't like himself much for he did, ESPECIALLY to his brother
So a Sans who acts kinda like a Papyrus? Nuh uh
Is this the basis of Dustberry?
Anyway
Smells like an old, slightly burnt book
Concept: Phantom Papyrus but he used to be a hallucination that turned into an actual ghost somehow -> Phantom and XChara can see each other
Horror
doesn't like horror movies much
he's seen enough shit
Likes chickens
Hc for fanon horror: cooking for the bad sanses, at first didn't trust anyone else
Canon Horror probably can't cook very well
Faint smell of damp books
TW ED, TW Lust
Horror has moments where he binge eats and then regrets it later
Lust
Is like the only Sans who enjoys warm weather
Infertile, compromises by being a cool ass babysitter
Loves flowers
A tea drinker
Transatlantic accent
Listens to Mitski
When he's looking at something he likes/loves, his eye lights turn monster soul shaped instead of heart shaped

Thoughts about the OFF Prologue (spoilers if you haven't played the nearly 20(?) year old game)
Long time fan, first time player (yeah.........) but I have a couple thoughts (edit: after typing, I have a LOT of thoughts surprisingly).
It's very fun! Combat & movement is surprisingly swift, like damn, some RPGs could take a couple of notes. Also, the names for the competences and objects have always been one of my favorite aspects of the game. I get into combat at the end of this.
The new UI is extremely fun, I love it!! I thought they would change the key art for Batter in the menu depending on the zone he's in, but it's just a color-swap I believe, which is fine, I still find it very cute. I'm also surprised they kept the original menu title, but I'm glad they did. Also, Zacharie changing poses every time you talk to him is cute. I thought he would have a different speech bubble/quip if you talk to him, but that's fine that he doesn't.
I'm pretty sure puzzles are the exact same as the original. Saying that, I don't remember the solutions of the originals but I still managed to get through them, despite me not being a puzzle guy. I do remember Mortis Ghost saying that he would've cut down or changed the number puzzles, but I'm glad the game is mostly faithful.
My biggest gripe with one of the puzzles is the one to find Dedan's room. I remember hearing people having trouble with that one and not understanding it was an audio puzzle. I personally don't like the solution of adding a visual bar that represents the loudness (if that makes sense), I feel like it make's it too obvious. Although, people who have auditory problems may find it difficult, so I personally suggest having the option to remove visual cue's for audio in the menu.
Translation-wise, it's been a couple of years so I don't exactly remember the original EN fan translation, but there were a few lines that I noticed were changed. The Judge is eloquent as ever, the Batter is stoic as ever, the Elsen are pathetic as ever, etc. There was just a single line that did irk me a bit but literally who cares.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Left is the remake, right is the original)
The original sounds more raw and crude compared to the new line. Though to be honest, it's probably just the word "carve" I have an issue with, but whatever. Actually, I did think Dedan sounded a bit more proper(?) compared to the original, but I could be wrong.
Anyways, soundtrack. I was extremely hesitant ACC has a very distinct style. But I think it was mostly pretty good! I believe Morusque did most of the non-battle themes (correct me if I'm wrong), but they did such a great job with them. The soundtrack for the first room in Alma and Clocks Work are definitely the highlights. The creep factor was spot on with the Alma room.
Unfortunately, I found the meat river (the music(?) that plays when you ride a Pedalo) and the game-over music underwhelming, with the latter sounding a little silly to me, I can't lie. But other than that, these hit it out of the park.
Battle theme's on the other hand. Nothing's gonna top Pepper Steak, yeah, and I don't think I'm ever going to get used to White Meat unfortunately but whatever. Dedan's theme is incredible, I really like it; I swear to god I thought Papyrus was about to pop out. The reference is extremely apparent, to the point that I think it's a little grating, but it's very cute. I do think it's endearing that the reference is there, since I know Dedan was a large inspiration to Papyrus. It's a good song though, a bit of a different vibe from the original, but I don't mind. I think Fake Orchestra and this one are on par for me, Toby Fox just needs to make another title that goes as hard as Fake Orchestra.
Last thing, I really like that they added Dedan's corpse sprite after the battle. Oh also, my first game over was with Dedan. I did have to do some grinding but it wasn't that bad. My biggest gripe with RPGs (and the reason I don't play a lot of them) is the grind and gameplay aspect. OFF did get a bit repetitive since I just spammed Furious Homerun and have my Add-On do an attack, but I do like the timing and critical hits.
I'm very happy I actually game over-ed with Dedan, I was afraid I would be able to get through him with just 200cc, but no, I did have to use items and such. Also, I underestimated the ahah2 so my Batter and Add-On just kept falling asleep or feel lethargic. That's what I don't like about RPGs. Getting through bosses with one match. I'm happy he put up a fight, very fitting.
I'm excited to play the rest of the game! I skipped out playing the original because I heard how much of a grindfest it was, also because I was really afraid of it for some reason, so I opted to just re-watch the same 2 hour game play like a P*rsona fan. I did play the tutorial though.... I need to pay my dues and finish what I started.
EDIT: LAST THING, I think the characters teleporting being changed to... THUNDER? LIGHTNING? Is so funny. I did like the original, but I do giggle every time I summon a Pedalo and lightning strikes. I strike thee, Pedalo.

It has been awfully cloudy lately and i have been so stressed so im just gonna share my comfort movies (because i wanna watch them and i can't buut maybe u can)
Also i need to clarify a comfort movie staple for me is a lighthearted topic, preferably including love, but definetely no angst- not even a hurt/comfort kind of situation. Also a great soundtrack. Just something i won't need to process and just enjoy.
Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) (hope i spelled that correctly)
This movie has an amazing classical music repertoire. I love yann tiersen's style.
Also i was like 12-13 when i first saw this and as a unashamed secret admirer it was really tempting to pull an amelie and leave little clues to my crush. Didn't do it tho
Flipped (2010)
This movie's soundtrack includes artists like the everly brothers, some of my hits form there was let it be me (i love this song so much it is so romantically beautiful) devoted to you, crying in the rain (i think it was also in the soundtrack but i might be confused cuz i've known this song beforehand)
Also I love that movie progresses with 2 perspectives of the same event. I definetely loved hearing julie's ideas and thought processes on events that might have been passed on as trivial. I loved observing their differences and having a look into their minds. (I especially loved the parts about the sycamore tree that makes me so emotional)
The nightmare before christmas
I could add a lot of stop motion movies here i love that style but i chose this because it is more lighthearted. First of all i am a sucker for jack skellington like that skeleton can have me anytime (we listen and we don't judge ok?) also again it is a musical and it is banger after banger
Also i lovee the last scene my pisces ass is a sucker for romance stories like that. I resonate with sally a lot too so it just makes me hopeful i guess
My fav song is probably kidnap the sandy claws. I used to try to memorize the lyrics of that one instead of studying (still a tempting idea) also i love the nightmare revisited album like as an evanescence fan it was amazing to hear amy sing a song about pure yearning. Also i love the korn cover of kidnap the sandy claws and marilyn manson cover of this is halloween. (Problematic as he is i love marilyn manson ok? I know im devastated too)
Anywayy yes these are my comfort movies
Id love if you reccomend me smt but to be honest i don't know when id be able to watch it- feel free to do it anyway tho
Anyway i will just add my hits from these movies here :
Amélie
Flipped
The nightmare before christmas
(i didn't put in this is halloween but like id be surprised if u don't know it anyway so)

The Sound of Silence: Lyric Commentary
Tumblr media
I'm quite happy with the response that this contest generated this week, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the variety of music that I got to see everyone choose! From classic rap to soundtracks, indie to musicals, it really goes to show that there are so many ways to connect with lyrics across the board. I've been trying to do more mechanical-oriented contests as of late after a slew of flavorful ones. Contests like this seem to tread a medium ground.
My favorite overall aspect of this week is how those variations in music either influenced or completely changed one's approach to the song. Many cards had themes that were directly connected to the world of Magic and intentionally shifted the context of the lyrics, but for others, I feel that the lyrics helped drive the card's creation. I liked seeing the ways in which people allowed their love of music to make new cards!
My overall mechanical critique is a reminder about space and punctuation. Magic cards are limited by the amount of characters you can fit into a title, and there's only so much room for flavor text as well. In the real world of card processes, there would be someone who would ask for flavor text on cards that needed them, but seeing as we're acting in mechanical, creative, AND visual space, it's something to be cognizant of. Additionally, I saw a lot of semicolon misuse this week. Semicolons are for separating two like ideas that could be connected but lead into each other naturally; they can't replace the function of commas or emdashes.
But my song's almost been sung, SO: here are the entries and commentary! If you see a card with JUDGE PICK next to it, that means it was either a) in the running and there just wasn't space, or b) there was a specific cool thing about it that I wanted to highlight for the crowd. One, two, three, four—
@an-anarchist-shapeshifter — End the Feud "Time will Change You" by The Crane Wives
Tumblr media
I feel a sense of disconnect between the notion of equal pacifism and the mechanical implications. Perhaps the king and the elves are each representative of the green and white here, but then there's the fact that everyone's graveyards are exiled and only you get the benefit. Of course, there's no way that giving your opponents the counters would be reasonable. In that instance, perhaps one compromise would've been to not necessarily display the truce, but also a force for the future. After all, wouldn't you be swinging in pretty hard after this?
Still, the ability to really beef up a board through lots of graveyard shenanigans is just what a GW deck could use against a more control-oriented matchup. Personally I'd phrase it "where X is the number of cards exiled from your graveyard this way" instead of "owned," because it's more intuitive to me. Yeah, it's the same thing, but regardless. And it's a good swing in still! I think the bottom line is that I wanted for there to be a more direct connection between the trajectory of these two kingdoms and how the player would use this to then claim some manner of victory. The intended mood matches the lyrics but could've used a different mechanical angle if you wanted to stick with the notion of peace. A lifegain spell might've been reasonable as well.
~
@arixordragc — Disdainful Dragon "Judgement" by Caamora)
Tumblr media
I'm quite familiar with the card Disdainful Stroke. I'm also familiar with the cost and its effects. I'm baffled as to why the choice to name a card ostensibly after a specific spell would lead to an inverted effect here. Why mana value 4 or less? Yeah, maybe someone would be disdainful of those underneath them as the lyric suggests, but most of the Disdainful Strokes that we've seen have flavorfully been about dismissing the greater displays of power from those above you. The choice to invert that feels incongruous to me.
The card's perfectly fine, I suppose, even if the flavor text is kinda squished in there. It's a good draft mythic and could see sideboard play. Really, though, the whole concept of the card feels like it should've been built around the spell in question and the fact that it isn't frustrates me somewhat. I want to hear about the decision for that later if you're around and about to tell it.
~
@bergdg — One More Light "One More Light" by Linkin Park
Tumblr media
Yeah, it's a great little one-drop. Combat tricks like this are fun for limited and good for constructed in the right situations. I like the stipulation for the counter. Did you ever consider having an effect that would do something else if the permanent wasn't a creature? I suppose that the bonus is fine enough for white. The flavorful portion of this card is pretty strongly in white's wheelhouse, and that's something that really solidifies it in this unique position.
What is the value of a single entity to the colors? I suppose Blue would have each individual categorized, Black would have each individual counting themselves first, Red would fight for each individual's brightness to shine, and Green recognizes that each light has a purpose. But it's white's capacity to care from one light to another first that matters. The ellipses in the flavor text is grammatically awkward to me, and really should've been removed, but the sentiment's what matters here. Ultimately a great connection that speaks to the color pie, I say. Maybe not the most staggering effect, but eh, combat tricks are always worth it to someone.
~
@bread-into-toast — Weight of the Worldsoul "Good Luck Babe!" by Chappell Roan
Tumblr media
I'm always struck by the effort of the art here. The new enchantment frames really make this pop for sure, and with this kind of really wild effect, it's a feast for the senses. That said, mechanics matter more here, so I'll stop that particular praise to tell you that I wish there was a more coherent way to phrase this effect. Coherent? More succinct is what I mean. I grok it, of course, and there are plenty of effects that do this sort of thing, but it's a heck of a mouthful.
Being able to shut off someone's cards like this is often much better than just removing them, though, even if it gets them mana. Sacrificing a creature is still totally doable if it's just got Pacifism on it, and instant-speed Aura removal is a lot worse when it's on a Planeswalker you control. Could "Enchant creature, planeswalker or land" roll off the tongue easier? Is there a tried-and-true 'you must do this' order to these things? At this point I usually go with intuition. As far as the Worldsoul and whatever goes, I like the interpretation of the lyrics to this kind of overwhelming effect. Like, damn, yeah, being interconnected to all of life and nature really can be a burden. I don't believe that Chappell Roan was talking about that exactly but who knows, maybe she's a planeswalker in disguise. I suppose in the end you've got a lot of funky words on a funky card, but it's a heck of an interesting card for what it's worth.
~
@cthulhusaurusrex — Lead Pipe Languages "Ballskin" by MF DOOM
Tumblr media
What a fantastic reference choice of lyric-to-card-presentation you've got here. I think that anyone looking at this art would certainly understand the homage, although the name is somewhat... Well, not to tie things up, but it's kind of blunt all things considered. Maybe I would expect there to be more bludgeoning in the connection; as someone who's a fan of the esoteric, it's a wee bit too esoteric to pass the test of player comprehension.
The mechanics are certainly reminiscent of the Silverquill power, and it was a fair enough choice to have the power of language and the rap references align here. The fact that you can turn Auras into enchantment creatures is a bit of an oversight considering how they would immediately die. And since when do the Silverquill care about enchantments or enchantment creatures? Yes, I know that it would be more to the point of having this card work in a specific constructed shell, but unless this is intended to present a completely new leap here, I don't see the exact connection. Maybe if there are more Silverquill cards in the future they'll be able to delve into this space. Other than that, the 'why' of this card is still lost on me.
~
@dimestoretajic — Graveyard Smash (JUDGE PICK) "Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett
Tumblr media
It's a perfectly reasonable card that smashes with flash, if your casting is ramped to amp up the crash of nasty ghasts to cash their massive axes and gash the aghast. Plus, exiling someone else's graveyard so that they can't get their own creature reanimated is pretty awesome too. I didn't expect for someone to go with a song that's a little...sillier? I should've expected that more, honestly, it's kinda silly myself that I didn't. Maybe I was thinking of more personal songs for people, more poetic. But hey, maybe there's sentimentality for you, I ain't one to judge. Except in the position whereupon I'm the judge.
And I'm judging that flavor text just a little bit, just because it feels a little obvious for what you're going for. It's not bad, of course, and I like how there's a little bit of that implied silliness with a hooligan horde of graverobbers coming in to dig up a bunch of graves as fast as they can before bouncing. Maybe I would've liked some more of the result of the looting, like how after they'd heard about the security, there wasn't a still shovel for weeks, or how the sounds of tilled earth and cracked granite kept everyone up, or maybe how it even startled the ghosts—yadda yadda yadda. Reanimating from an eff-yours-got-mine is awesome, and I love the name because of how absurd the portrayal is! There's a poetic extra mile that really could've pushed it, but take the thumbs-up for what it is.
~
@feyd-rautha-apologist — Ignite the Drive (JUDGE PICK) "Extras (Elphelt's Theme)" by Molly Daisy & Daisuke Ishiwatari
Tumblr media
I'm guilty for not knowing anything about Guilty Gear. Frankly, I don't play that many video games in the first place. What I do know is that goblins also don't listen to safety regulations and also, Vehicles don't have enough of this effect—honestly, there isn't any effect quite like this, not as simple, and I enjoy it a lot. Whatever limited environment that this could go in, it knows what it's asking for. Good topdeck when you need that last creature and don't have what you need to power your vehicles.
There's this energy that the song brings and this Magic-themed matching energy that feels aligned even without that direct connection between the nice young lady in the thumbnail and the motorhead in the art description. Maybe the exclamation points in the flavor text are a little much, but aside from that, this was a competitive week and I still want to commend this card for its strength of mood and overall kick-assery.
~
@frognarch — Ruler's Acquisition "C.R.E.A.M." by Wu-Tang Clan
Tumblr media
It's a damn cool image, that's for sure. Something tells me that "cash" as a concept isn't the most in-line with most Magic universes, and that's really the most difficult part of this card to contend with flavorfully; the fact that it's the flavor text that you chose is, well... I might just not be the right audience for sunglasses-wearing skulls. What this card sets out to do, I imagine, is to display a more contemporary take that's connected to the music, as opposed to finding a niche in a specific/established plane. And that's fine if that's what you're setting out to do! For most contest criteria, I'm just a little more straightedge with it.
The mechanics are what I really want to tinker with here, because goodness gracious there's some powerful stuff moving around. I will say that there's a small issue in power balance for constructed for sure. Swinging in and getting your Treasures with any kind of earlier treasure support means that you can, at instant speed, snatch up your opponents blockers and effectively ensure that they don't play the game. If this was a rare that sacrificed itself to gain control of another creature, I'd be a lot more down for that. Repeatedly and permanently gaining control of other players' stuff is a feelbad for just about any format. If that's still what you're after, then you might want to secure more hoops to jump through, because the threshold of five Treasures in the right shell is a lot easier to get to than you might think.
~
@horsecrash — Wanderlust (JUDGE PICK) "Metal Detector" by They Might Be Giants
Tumblr media
So far, Glowcap Lantern is the closest that any other card's come to this effect, and it's kinda strange that that's the case. It's a damn powerful effect, but having to hit on contact doesn't make it any more powerful than, say, Sticky Fingers or whatever. Less so without evasion, honestly. And that's good! Balanced commons are indeed good, no matter what the folks on the internet might say. They don't say otherwise, I don't know why I said that. Auras in limited are pretty undervalued, and in the end I think that having this in a shell with flying evasion would be the best bet. Whether or not I'd play it is kinda up in the air.
What I do like about this card that's commendable enough for a JP is the natural manner in which the flavor text as a fragment defines the aura, and also turns around the song to something that feels distinctly Magic-related. Yep, it's exactly that, that's how we're defining "wanderlust" for green, and I think it clicks in very well. Usually I'm not as down for fragments, but you make it make sense here because its parts of speech are enhancing what's being demonstrated through gameplay. This card should be notable for anyone reading this as an example of how grammar can work for you when you're writing your own original flavor text. Also, hell yeah TMBG.

@izzet-always-r-versus-u — Trust Deceived "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" by The Offspring
[image description: a scene through Kellan's POV - on the ground in the midst of the crossfire in Tarnation, vision going dark at the edges, hand outstretched, watching Oko walk away from him.]
Tumblr media
Something something two nickels. Anyway, it's a pretty rough pseudo-counterspell, and I like the way that your art direction places us. It's been a while since I've read the OTJ story. With that snippet of the lyrics in the title, I guess I understand it, but it's a little underwhelming for a choice. Maybe that's the hard part about having lyrics for a title—you don't get all the nuance that a longer sentence might bring. But I'm also not opposed to it, and if I'm generous, seeing this card in an OTJ pack would make me pretty happy to play blue. Blue was really damn powerful in OTJ. Makes me nostalgic, really.
The first line is the only one that needs a mechanical change, I think. Were you going for more of a Deflecting Swat kind of deal? Honestly I don't know why that one is a "may," but whatever. In that case, you might want to actually word it like Sideswipe. Yes, from CHK. Because OTJ had cards with multiple targets, the ability to change any number of them would've been awesome. Against a full-spree Metamorphic Blast or Rustler Rampage? Hell yeah. That said, I'm glad that this card doesn't have Spree, and that was a fair choice. Maybe stunning a creature as a last resort is a feelsbad at rare, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, and options are what really makes a rare card rare. The fact that just about all these things were found on OTJ spells actually makes me less inclined to think that that's the environment where you imagined this, but tell me what your thought process was—I'm curious!

@levelzeo — Let Me See Your Bones "Skeleton Appreciation Day" by Will Wood and the Tapeworms
Tumblr media
Weirdly enough, for reasons that I don't have a specific example for, this card doesn't work within the layers. I've attached the link below as to why, but the TL;DR is that modifying creature types happens in layer 4 and P/T stuff happens in layer 7. If you want to change a creature's type, it can't be contingent on its colors, abilities, or P/T as a static effect. Intuitive? No. Rulesworthy? Yes. This is one of the first cards in a while where I've actually had to investigate this! You learn something new every day. And it's a shame, because I really like how this card plays out.
Getting everything to be a X/1 Skeleton and having them party hard with each other is really cool for making the board a bunch of boney boys, and the length of the title is awesome with flavor text that takes from the song as well. Like, this is a skeleton love letter and I think that all the elements technically come together very well! It's a shame that there's not really an easy way to go about the effect that you're looking for without some weird wording and/or targeting and stuff. Small note: you're using MSE, correct? Using "Chop Bottom" in the Style tab will make it so that your FT doesn't get covered by a stamp.
~
@melancholia-ennui — Moment of Doubt "The Getting By II" by The Killers
Tumblr media
Once more the semicolon of separation comes in to rattle my bones. Argh! Small potatoes, though, for a card that's got some heavy emotions that come with it. I think that there's something to be said for how you've gone about this concept from a flavorful perspective, some kind of lost faith. The Theros Gods in particular being contingent upon belief is an interesting one, because there's that feeling of outsider doubt that makes cards like this that much more profound in-universe, to say nothing of the profundity outside of it. I wonder if the FT could've been just as fine with "When I look up, all I see is sky" attributed to one of the figures. It says enough without the rhyme to make it feel lyrical, no?
I don't think we need to delve into the mechanics as much as the flavor's getting to me, honestly, but I'll do my damndest anyway. After all, it's a fun take on the white boardwipes that we've been seeing these days with the draw stuff, and I think I'm a fan of how it reflects belief as something that can still accrue meaning despite the doubt being more powerful than said belief. Still, it should read: "Each player who controls an Avatar, God, Demigod, and/or legendary enchantment" because otherwise one could argue that someone who controls both somehow wouldn't draw a card. Semantics! Yes, that's a dumb take. Yes, someone would actually argue that if they found themselves in that situation. Yes, boardwipes are awesome in limited. And yes, I do particularly like the inclusion of Avatar in there, actually. It's a nice touch.
~
@mildewpyre — Dreamless Dorm/Ticking Clock "Burn My Dread" by Yumi Kawamura
Tumblr media
I am...more or less confused by what this card seeks to accomplish. Your opponent has basically no chance to react to Dreamless Dorm when you cast it, right? So why is it worded as a trigger like that? Playing a creatureless control deck that ensures you maximize that value is a bit uninteractive in limited, and with a majority of Magic back-and-forth being tied to creatures these days, having a burn spell that can deal a ridiculous amount of damage for that little mana isn't what I'd call a fun card. And then you have the card that changes life totals being one that follows after that, for seven mana? I'm not sure what the process was for how this card was intended to work.
If I'm being generous, I'd say that playing Dreamless Dorm and then swinging in incentivizes your opponents to block with a little more fatalism in mind before maximizing the damage that your own creatures would do to you. That's also if you're running creatures in the first place, which if you're doing limited, you'd have to do in order to get anywhere. But that's pure conjecture and that's nothing to be said for how Ticking Clock really doesn't mesh with the Dorm in the first place. What's with the name-to-gameplay connection, too? And why did you include flavor text on an Aftermath card? I'll assume this is supposed to be rare, too, but I'll be honest: this card feels like the idea for a Persona-themed card came took over the actual card design. Theming is important but it can't come at the cost of a cohesive card structure.

@nine-effing-hells — Throw Off the Shackles "Defying Gravity" by Stephen Schwartz
Tumblr media
I read one of the books in the series many years ago, but I've never been too into Wicked like a lot of people I know. Never really delved into theatre as much as I should've. Still, when you have a green-skinned ostracized character being unjustly maligned, might as well roll with it, right? I guess that the only thing I have against this card is the fact that I don't sense any sort of "game" that one might associate with the Azorius? Like, is that how a Golgari character would see the relationship? I have a hard time buying that just because it's a specific kind of back-and-forth where the powerful figure(s) need to take themselves less seriously in order for a game to be recognized. IMO the Azorius take themselves way too seriously for this FT to be the best application.
Still, the effect is something that we haven't seen too much of re:Aura destruction, and looking at all the Auras that Ravnica has to offer from the Azorius, I like what the gameplay and AD could do with one another! Getting that sense of tethering severance feels both strong for Black on both fronts, and the indestructible is another cool aspect that I like about the combat tricks Black has to offer. Determination is a quality that we've been seeing more of in Black. Bringing that out to this card is actually quite impressive considering how well the execution flows.

@piccadilly-blue — Baron Von Marlon "Too Much Brandy" by The Streets
Tumblr media
Honestly, I didn't listen to too many of the songs that people had sent in, either because I didn't have the time, and/or the genre didn't appeal to me, and/or I had already heard the artists and could get the vibe from that. You, on the other hand, piqued my interest, and—well, I'm not sold, but I'm far from turned off, and more staggered than anything. Staggering suits this character well, now that we're on the topic, and the mood is by far the strongest thing about this card. I don't mean the mood of the AD, but the whole mood. This character is pretty damn awesome. I don't think it would be a safe idea to go out partying with them, but, y'know, I'd follow them on Rakblr.
I feel that I'm kinda missing the context for where you imagine the gameplay to fit in here. Rakdos gameplay is something that's rather hard to pin down, although having a guy sobering up to eventually pummel you in the face is pretty reasonable. Not that he's the strongest, though, and without that history of -1/-1 counters, I'm left wondering where you're expecting this archetype to go, if anywhere. But is that really the concern of this card? Maybe you're going strictly for mood, and that succeeded immensely. I just wish I didn't have to stop that mood and question it against where the card itself is taking me. Feels like I'm ruining the vibe, y'know?

@real-aspen-hours — Ghouls Gambit "Drink with the Living Dead" by Ghoultown
[Art: a zombie dressed in tattered cowboy attire is sitting at a table, across from a living person. Both have shot their thunder pistols at each other, knocking cards and shot glasses off the table. The human reels back from the shot, while the zombie only gives a skeletal grin as the attack pierces him, to no effect.]
Tumblr media
Was this supposed to be "Ghoul's" or "Ghouls'" with a possessive? Either way, sorry about not having the full spree there, but I haven't found the place to add the [+] for the upper-right on Spree cards. Ah well. It's certainly a functional Spree card, and it's a shame that Unfortunate Accident is also a card here to take that second mode and make it feel slightly more derivative. But deathtouch/indestructible is a perfectly fine way of making combat that much stronger, so yeah, for five mana you can control some interaction. That's worth it for me as a black instant! Not breaking ground necessarily, but it's got what it needs.
Simple cards are then reliant on the strength of their flavor in order to get the point across. Where we land here is the midpoint of having the flavor text not exactly enhancing but not exactly repeating what's being presented via the art. Maybe as a warning or an attribution it could've gone somewhere. Poetically, the warning that's in the song preempts the result (the "would") and as such there might still be an element of surprise. Not so much here, though. I think the quote "Try to match me shot for shot" might have been a better application of the song, honestly, to match both the humor and immediacy. Not a bad connection considering OTJ overall, but I was hoping for slightly more substance.
~
@sparkyyoungupstart — Fable to Fighter "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies
Tumblr media
In no other Magic timeline could this lyric be applicable. And I actually think it's pretty great here! Do they have movies on Kamigawa yet? I mean, they have cameras and chips, but I don't know for sure about films. I think it's cute enough for me to suspend my disbelief. I'm still a big fan of Kamigawa when I can ignore the turntables and headphones and allow for neon mechanics to be their own form of magical joy. Does that bring me out of this immersion? No, although it's still really clear that the lyrics were what shaped the card and that there was a bit of a forced meshing here. Not a bad meshing, mind! Just a pretty clear point of contact.
As for the ability, historic permanents turning alive also feels pretty cool from a manifestation standpoint. That said, Vengeant Earth is where you want the wording to be: "Target historic permanent you control becomes a 4/4 Samurai creature with first strike in addition to its other types until end of turn." Sometimes you can ignore the "base" stuff, y'know? All depends on precedent. It's a fairly strong effect, I'd say, good for a combat trick, good for combat math. The actual gameplay might not be doing anything particularly crazy, but I loved playing with Historic in limited, and that ticks off a box for me. Having a lot forced into the box of these lyrics is still a bit tongue-in-cheek. Again, I'm smiling as I'm writing this. Take that however ya want.
~
@tanknspank — Two-Toned Echoes "Who Brings Shadow" by Masayoshi Soken
Tumblr media
I'm slowly learning that the intersection of Final Fantasy enthusiasts and Magic players is a lot stronger than I first realized. As someone with absolutely no connection to the game I'm a little struck by the whole presentation, so that's a good start. Squishing that name into the adventure, on the other hand, is a little forced, and you and I both know that I don't have to tell you twice. Two-Toned Echoes, eh? Look, I'm gonna level with you: it's a weird name for a card. Explicitly referring to Magic's color system in-game has been done before, but there's a reason that it's fallen out of favor, and I think there could've been a little more separation before jumping into this name as a first choice. But, you had to abide by the lyrics, and as far as prismatic things go, I'm willing to envision an adventure-y sensation wherein some figure is leaping over their past and future selves in a rainbow-colored array of joy.
Tumbling Through Time is a fine card by itself as well. Look, overall I think that this card is really good and grokable. What am I hesitant about, then? Something's prodding me, and it may just be the arrangement of lyric and adventure, which IIRC you pointed out in the submission process. "Lost in the Flood" could've been fine—I just checked it, heh—but no, that wasn't what you wanted from this card. Maybe that's just what happened with a few cards from this contest: it's just so apparent when the desire to get the lyrics is evident on the cards, and it's no longer blended together. What does that matter in the end, I suppose? Love trumps immersion. I'm still gonna critique it a bit but only 'cause that's my job.
~
@wildcardgamez — The Fire "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel
Tumblr media
Just so it's out there in front of this, I did note that the title (or part of the title) of the song shouldn't be what the name/flavor took from. Kinda not in the spirit of the lyric contest. But regardless, here we are, and we've got The Fire here. It's living up to its name, I suppose? It's basically "You can cast two spells, but watch out" which really means "Your opponents should only cast one spell each turn." It's an easily contained fire, that's for sure. I don't think it's living up to the legendary stature of its title or its flavor because of that. Maybe it's a sideboard card against combo decks and big spell decks, but I'd hope there would be bounce removal or whatever for it.
I think that you aimed a little too high here for an effect that's far too abstract for what's reasonable. It feels less like you were designing with the lyric in mind and more that you took the song and tried to apply it to the Magic world in an 'epic' way. And that's admirable, but IMO the contest was looking for less macroscopic approaches. Who's the speaker? Is this the effect or a story about the effect? Is there a plane in question? Mystique can bring intrigue, but in this case it's obscuring the larger idea that the card is asking for.
~
@xenobladexfan — Gunborg, Starnheim Gatekeeper (JUDGE PICK) "Wir fliegen" by Cyua & Hiroyuki Sawano
Tumblr media
I'm trying so hard to picture the epic art that your illustration is going for, and yes, I can absolutely see the valkyrie with their weapons guarding a withered world tree. I'm also a veteran of the Kingdom of Loathing and that's taking over so much of my visual memory right now. But, this isn't about the art, innit? It's about a pretty darn good angel-to-non-angel ratio and having these cards slam in the air. Having even one or two angels makes all the ground attacks and deaths that much better, and I'd like to think that they're talking to another angel in the FT—to the player, even, as a guardian. I like that a lot!
I didn't think "Untap them" should be its own sentence but I guess we have The Fifth Doctor as kinda-precedent. I dunno, seems a little wonky but not that wonky at all. Really, there's not much to actively dislike about this card at all. The name's a lot longer than it needs to be, and "Gunborg" sounds fairly unserious for a serious card, but those a little nitpicks to be fixed in post. You took the lyrics and you fulfilled the prompt in a way that coincided with Magic's multiverse in a pleasant and almost poignant manner. So kudos to you!
~
@yourrightfulking — Stray from the Path "Ghost Light" by TheFatRat & Everglow
Tumblr media
Let's start with the mechanics here, which are what I like the best. This card should for sure be an uncommon, because a two-mana exile spell, even multicolored, is still quite powerful. Being able to rescue one of your own untapped creatures and/or bounce it is fun too. Really, besides a complexity spike that also justifies this card as uncommon, I think that there's a lot to be intrigued by here! I'm a huge fan of the various UW tempo/control shells, so I'll admit that I'm a little more biased towards these effects personally.
As for how the lyrics/flavor interact, though, I think that I could've used a little bit of context here. Maybe there's a voice that's taking wandering kids or survivors and schwooping them away, where attackers are punished but bystanders aren't? I don't think I have enough information with what you're presenting here to get a clear understanding of what your card is supposed to depict. Conjecture is fine, of course, but I want more than conjecture when it comes to these sorts of things, because I can't really judge my own presumptions. Upping the rarity and giving a little more definition to the showcase could've turned me onto this card as much as I was wanting, all things considered.
~
And that's that. Phew. Thank you all once more for your cards <3 This was a popular week! @abelzumi

I watched the second fma Netflix adaptation. Here’s the best of my notes:
They had the whole fma original soundtrack to use for this movie and tHEY DIDNT??
Purification arts of Xing?? Just call it Alcehestry like they do in the show?? (No I didn’t spell it right I was noting stuff as I went and didn’t look it up)
Okay the weird pause before Lan Fan pulled out the smoke bomb

ITS AN ACTUAL BOMB?????
Lots of weird pauses and slow-mo’s to mimic anime fights but it reads weird as live action and I don’t like it
HUGHES THANK FUCK PLEASE MAKE THIS LESS WEIRD
Wtf never mind hi envy with your shit ass wig (I forgot they killed off Hughes in the first one 😭😭)
LAN FAN BODIED HIM LMAO
Ed really be like “you do you ig”
“Yeah people exploding today!” Is my favorite line so far. (English Captions with Japanese audio; this was the train hijacker guy from fma 03)
Ed’s expression when Mustang shows up is the most in character thing I will say that (after train stuff)
I will say they did better on characterization this time around I feel like they’re close to the actual characters
But it’s hard to get close to them since they aren’t, well, animated characters. Trying not to judge too harshly.
Not terrible so far actually
Okay nevermind about the cgi WHAT IS WITH XIAOMEI
“I mean, we’re just some decent human beings.” -Ed who wanted to leave Mei behind
GO OFF MEI YEAHHHH TELL HIM THE BITCH
Okay we’re gonna have a really awkward explosion-over-short moment that just will not work because it isn’t animated
GIRLIE ARE YOU HAVING A SEIZURE
Mei being a bitch back is warranted
They be running
“You’ll never catch me, tiny rice man!” -Mei (rice man?)
The dialogue being altered where Ed says he doesn’t have a god to pray to before scar kills him bothers me
I like Alphonse’s movements on the ground when he’s incapacitated, I think the cgi works well there
Hi Mustang good on you for saving your pseudo sons
Riza with the side eye lmao
The slowmo’s again like hello
ARMSTRONG HIIIII You look really fuckin weird tho But HIIIIII
Okay the flexing I can do without thanks it looks weird
Yes Breda why is he shirtless
The red eyes don’t look good either. (For scar)
N ow see why wouldn’t you put in a leitmotif for the brothers theme in this scene with Ed and Al and instead just put in sad piano that sounds vaguely similar to it
WHERES THE LINE ABOUT THEM BEING BROKEN BUT ALIVE WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE THAT
Riza being the best and putting her coat over Ed >>>>
Mustang go comfort your son’s PLEASE
Okay just ignore that I’m on the found family train
Girlie that looked like a bad PowerPoint presentation WHY WOULD YOU DO IT LIKE THAT?? (The part where the officer shot the ishvallen child)
Gluttony
 hi
 again
. Can’t wait for your cgi
. (It didn’t look as bad tbh)
Sorry but with the military uniform off and just the white collared shirt he looks LIKE A DAD LIKE CMON (Mustang)
“You’ve grown
at least I think.” -Hoenhiem, observational genius
“I think I like this scene better than canon a bit actually? Cause Ed gets to express his emotions more than just calling him a bastard
Okay Hoenhiem just ignore him??
Uh oh they have to walk back together
“Our hair matches :D” -Hoenhiem
Ed immediately takes his out of the ponytail
Im not gonna lie I chuckled at that
Also I love seeing Ed with his hair down we don’t get enough of that
“stop following me” -Ed
“we’re going to the same place? đŸ˜„â€ -Hoenhiem
Okay we’re talking about Xerxes instead of Ed and Al’s mom or
?
And the bitch is gone
YOURE GOING TO XERXES WITH AUTOMAIL YOU DUMBASS YOURE GONNA OVERHEAT
Ooooo love the look of Xerxes ruins
Awwww Winry’s parents :D we get more of them
They’re gonna die tho and I hate that :(
This is gonna be so hard wrenching actually-
GIRL IM GONNA CRY
5 minutes into Central and you’re already causing trouble, good job Ed
Al I feel like has the weakest characterization so far in this adaptation he’s just reacting to stuff rather than doing stuff as far as I’ve seen
Scar when Winry is having a breakdown🧍
Ruhroh Winry’s got a gun
Okay the slowmo makes more sense here
Ed saves the day :D
Also we finally see scars brother after getting no context on him
Good acting on Lan Fan’s part
Also why is this calling her Ran Fan? Is that a dub thing (they called Ling “Lin” but this was all in the captions so I’m confused)
“King Bradley is a Homonculus” very serious Ling “hUh.” -Ed
Any Mustang and Hughes content is good Mustang and Hughes content I don’t make the rules
Also it’s good they didn’t change the layout of Riza’s explanation montage for Ishval because it works really well in canon and translated pretty well to live action
Riza and Roy’s speeches near the end >>>
Oh great the bros are gonna try and catch scar alone this can only end well
Well they definitely didn’t catch him
WINRY HOW TF ARE YOU HERE??
MUSTANG WHY TF ARE YOU HERE???
Oh hi Riza :D
Mustang’s like “let ur gf speak to him if she wants like damn”
Ed’s like “bb girl if he says anything shitty I’ll fight for you”
WINRY GIRLBOSS LUV HER
“Hell no I don’t forgive you for shit, but I’m gonna patch you up anyway.” -Winry
Okay cool message, someone must endure pain if it means they can prevent further suffering and cycles of violence
Uh oh Gluttony escaped
He be runnin
YEAH ED AND AL SAVE UR DAD
YEAH SCAR SAVE WINRY
YEAHHHHHH
“Wait I won’t leave you behind” MUSTANG BEING A DAD AHEGWIWNWN
“Colonel your fight is elsewhere” SCREAMING
Oh hi envy
ED SAVINF LING
and they got eaten lmaoïżŒ
Yay we’re all trapped in Gluttony’s stomach :D
Envy is so cynical what a bitch lol
“Tf is a portal of truth 🧍” -Ling
Oh great we’re gonna get cgi envy this will go well right?
EW
Could be worse but
EW
Conclusion: it was okay. There were parts I genuinely liked. There are things that also bug me to no end. The soundtrack from the original series would’ve fit way better and a lot of times it sounded like an off brand marvel track. Acting and cgi was a lot better (at times.) An improvement on the first one, and a semi-worthwhile watch if you have nothing else to do and you like fma. Cannot and will never be a substitute for the original obviously. Seems like less of a cash grab and more of a genuine effort this time which I appreciate. Overall? 6.5/10
(Lemme know if y’all want my full notes version because it has way more of me screaming and being goofy)

5. Favorite Female Character
Tumblr media
Mam from Never Let Me Go (I tried talking about it once before...). Actually, it'd probably be a tie between her and Tanya (from the same series).
But while I admire Tanya because she's this strong, respectable woman, with a truly unconditional love for her child, I still feel like Mam's “flaws” are more compelling to me.
Because- well. I've been the person who judges her, I've been her, and I've been her child. I've been through all of it. And I know how people look at and what they think about women like her—so I know how easy it would have been for the ones who directed the narrative to let its audience throw stones and condemn her character without giving her a chance to speak.
Her point of view doesn't make what she did right (or wrong, for that matter), but I appreciate that there was a space within conversations for her to voice some of her feelings. Her dilemmas, her regrets, her desires.
Many times in fiction, when it's a story focused on kids or teenagers, parents are portrayed as just that—someone's parent. A mom is just a mom, and her story ends where her child's begin. I liked that Mam was a woman, and a mother, who was neither there to be antagonized nor sanctified. I liked that she made a selfish decision, put herself first, and lived the life that she wanted, as fulfilling as it could be. I liked that she knew she couldn't have everything, but still gave herself the choice of what she would rather have, despite what was expected of her. I liked that she was honest with herself, and with the ones that she loved.
12. Most Rewatched BL
Tumblr media
After discovering it, I watched Utsukushii Kare five times between May and December last year. Would have watched it even more this year, if it wasn't for the fact I'm only now having time to rest properly. I'm planning to do the next rewatch this month, preferably this week.
The reason why I've rewatched UK many more times than any other BL is that, well, for one, it's not lengthy. You can watch both seasons + the movie and that would be little more than an afternoon/night/morning. Plus you know you're gonna enjoy every second of that time.
It's hard for me to put into concise words why I like this drama so bad, because- Man, I like everything. I like the dynamic between the characters, I like them (and to study them) individually, I like the acting, I like the chemistry between the actors, I like the BEAUTIFUL AMAZING INCOMPARABLE original soundtrack made especially for it, I like the scenarios and the vibes, I like the colors and the lighting and the angles, the moving shots, the still shots, the tension and the timing. I like the humor, I like the drama, and I like the romance. I like the way they express themselves, the acts and words they use; when, where and how they use it. I like how so many little things are meaningful throughout the story. I like how they found the exact kind of love and support they needed in their lives. I like how protective they are over each other; how jealous, mesmerized and touched they can get. I like the co-dependency and the tangible yearning. I like how it's both so intense it's kinda crazy but also so tender it makes me wanna cry.
There's nothing ever made in this world that I'd rather watch more.
17. Best Kiss
(doesn't specify what kind of kiss, but I thought it was already hard enough deciding among the mouth-to-mouth ones—so those were all I took into consideration for this.)
This may sound like a basic answer, but as long as I have eyes, and ears, and a heart... it's got to be PatPran's Rooftop Kiss in Bad Buddy.
Tumblr media
I tried not to reach a final verdict too fast and even rewatched some of my personal favorites (KinnPorsche's separation kiss on EP6 of KinnPorsche; NuengPalm's own rooftop kiss on EP5 of Never Let Me Go; SandRay's angry-desperate kiss on EP9 of Only Friends; and others from these same three series), but in the end... There's still nothing that can compare.
It's hard to breathe watching the moments that lead to that kiss. While they kiss, you can hear Pran crying. He kissed that man like that was the only kiss he'd ever get for the rest of his life. He kissed like he had waited for a thousand years, and a thousand more wouldn't be enough to recover after.
Good luck beating that.
19. Favorite Female Actor(s)
(sorry, couldn't decide on just one!)
Tumblr media
I was recently captivated by Nina Nutthacha performance in Love Sea. I love how expressive she is, and how you can easily identify and sympathize with the emotions she's portraying. She did impressively well in both the humorous and emotionally poignant scenes. I'm looking forward to more of her works in the future! 💕
Another actress that I like is Samantha Melanie.
Tumblr media
Ever since her character in Until We Meet Again won over my heart, seeing her show up in other series always makes me happy, no matter how brief her appearence is. She's the kind that brightens up a room just by being there (and. also she's so pretty 😳).

do you have any song from the dr osts that you really like? personally the ones that immediately jump to my mind are living in a lazy parallel world from v3 and the dr2 fakeout intro song
ok so. here's where I fully admit how bad my love for this franchise is. because back when you could check your ALL TIME stats for spotify I checked, and I kid you not, my most played song ever is trapped by the ocean scent. It has been on my spotify wrapped 2 separate times and is my most played song PERIOD. And now that they've updated how far back you can check I will never know if that will ever change!
Tumblr media
Aside from that, I have a Danganronpa playlist that I use with most of my favorite tracks that is 100 songs long and is specifically organized with thought behind the placement of each song. It also has some fan songs too! I listen to it when I'm struggling to be productive a lot.
On the top of my head though, I'd like to talk about how amazing the ending themes for the Danganronpa games are! They make me so emotional and they're all this bittersweet or calm feeling and it's genuinely so nice. The Day Before the Future never fails to calm me down or get me emotional, same with Goodbye Despair High School and Trial END. Similarly to them Closing Argument v3 is also such an interesting and calmingly beautiful track that I adore and has some bittersweetness to it.
One thing I really love about the music in the franchise is the reuse of motifs and updating the songs themself. There's multiple versions of New World Order and they're all empowering and emotional in their own ways. The two versions of trapped by the ocean scent are always so wonderful, again, unironically my most played song of ALL time 😅.
The investigation songs are also great, I love the "jazz" elements the songs have especially Homicide (Or Kill Now), Box 15, And Despair Searching.
I also really love the motif Monokuma has, like, only a few days ago did I realize after years that Let's Start the Killing Game ACTUALLY has the motif of Mr Monokuma After Class IN IT!!!!
I genuinely could say how much I love so much of this franchise's soundtrack all day, but I want to focus on what I think people should absolutely listen to if they haven't since I've been asked.
I know there are some of you out there who haven't actually seen Danganronpa 3, and I won't judge you since that's your choice, but if you're someone who hasn't watched it please oh please listen to this song it is soooooo good: https://youtu.be/EF8lbBkfW8A?si=fe2YLQx080lAKcWe
youtube
In the English version of Danganronpa v3 the ending song was cut, I'm not really certain of the reason why, but it was cut. Because of this it's possible some may have not actually heard it before, Which is a CRIME Because it's delightful!!! Please listen to it!: https://youtu.be/1BnZLuW92Hw?si=VQsSJOBCDRO6dsn4
youtube
I really don't see people talking about the Danganronpa Pachinko, or P Danganronpa, Soundtrack and it really is a shame because I think all of the remixes and songs are great! My favorite song from the album is this one: https://open.spotify.com/track/2dYwE1ete8yshENgPBpOKn?si=1at3xvEmQoWjDwjRUv4CUw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A7K9BG8Br4xp4n7caXN0IM9
And this one!: https://open.spotify.com/track/1lWI7y6gbc1rTy8nbhe7Ck?si=yfBKeuGoR2SuhoaFC-81xQ&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A7K9BG8Br4xp4n7caXN0IM9
And last but certainly not least, I can't go on a ramble about Danganronpa's songs without mentioning Nagito Komaeda's songs. I won't talk too much about them since, as some may know, I am making an essay video of brief summarizes of my interpretations about the songs. They're all so amazing and beautiful, all three songs are written with his character in mind and sung by Megumi Ogata herself in his voice. I'd genuinely say they're masterpieces and I adore all three with all of my heart. Please listen to them if you get the chance! <3 https://youtu.be/IAMKvTOBHhI?si=ehM_Jl2X0OaTQwL5

Okay I’m finally getting into The Buccaneers because NGL that season 2 trailer with the emotional Good Luck Babe soundtrack was poetry but

Why oh why have they made the main girl sooo unlikable in her handling of these men and society? I’m 6 episodes in and argh
!
Okay so up until Nan accepts Theo’s second proposal (like Eps 1-3) I was so on board with everything and loved the issues they were setting up. The one man who Nan felt she could trust with a secret she didn’t think was a big deal (because she’s young and naive, and both scorns society while enjoying being part of it) who immediately reacted badly and now can hold this over her head is the best friend of her fiancĂ©?! Incredible, love that for them.
The eligible Duke who hates being hunted for his title and wants to be known for who he is and not what, then deciding to propose to the American who treated him like a normal man and who no one else saw as eligible? Plus the duke is actually super sweet and wants Nan to truly chose this life with him despite it being A Lot and Not For Everyone? Fantastic, gimmie 10 more eps of them together (though I wish they’d managed a few more secret interactions before the reveal).
And finally Nan is kind of the usually overlooked less-interesting one of the group and now she is having to both ask herself if she would enjoy a life where she is a more central figure (and that it’s not wrong to want that) and that these other girls (a mainly Conchie and Gennie) are having to realise they assumed Nan would only play a supporting role in their new lives and now that may not be the case? Love a wall-flower becomes main girl moment, I was yelling at the screen when Nan went off at Conchie at Tintagel, but again I wanted her to also corner Gennie and give her an ‘okay fine you clearly don’t want to talk to me but I’m hurt you didn’t invite me to your wedding, I know you better than this and am worried about you, but I’ll always be your sister first so let’s move past this’ little speech.
But they fucked up too many plot points which could have been juicier.
They made the reveal of Guys fortune hunting both non-personal and miss-represented it. Okay he was in New York for a rich wife but that was pre-Nan and kind of understandable, in the same way the American Girls are in London looking for titles. The main concern Nan should have, which should have been revealed or Guy should have confessed to was that he was still planning to propose to her for her money right up until she told him she was illegitimate. He may have liked her in Ep1+2 but it was her money which was the main reason he would have proposed to her then. It’s why his father gave him the ring and supported the whole thing. If she is going to get hurt by anyone judging her for her birth then Guy decided not to propose to her because of it (because he was planning to use her and now that was a riskier choice) while Theo accepted it seconds after learning about it.
And yes the circumstances and context impact this: Theo is privileged enough to be able to say that it doesn’t matter to him while Guy is operating from a desperate position. But then that too could have been a ‘learning moment’ for Nan: convention and society can more easily be ignored from a position of privilege and power, otherwise the consequences are severe. So to expect someone to agree to one without the other is very naive.
Then Theo’s behaviour during the Bonfire Party is see as horrendous by Nan even though Guy isn’t being a shining beacon of equality. When they talk of chopping firewood or cooking Guy doesn’t say ‘of course the girls can do either if they want’. Or when they’re talking about Jean and Nan takes issue to her being described like a possession: Guy was just talking about her like that to Theo, asking about passing her off. Nan is unfair to Theo here and completely forgiving to Guy despite him also having preconceived ideas but the writers don’t give her chance to see these moments. It would have been far better for her to see both romantic interests have these ideas and rail against them, then complain to the girls about society and women (a la Joe March) before one of them (have to say my preference is Theo) came and apologise to Nan and vowed to be better afterwards. Because otherwise it just looks like Theo getting the raw end of the deal and bettering himself for the women he loves while she doesn’t hold her actual love to account.
And oh my god Nans secret! When it comes to Nans illegitimacy being revealed she ends Ep 6 claiming she will be without shame and accept her birth proudly, then her fiancĂ© declares seconds later that he too accepts and loves her. She won’t loose *anything* from this huge revelation; she will still marry well, have all her friends, and now she isn’t lying to Theo or able to be blackmailed. The sword of Damocles thats been hanging over her since Ep 2 is gone and Nan has won; this is an unheard of success!
Instead the very next Ep opens with Nan disappointed that people are judging her for her birth (despite her sister and mother both warning her this would happen, and it being the main reason the Dowager was breaking the engagement), angry at Theo what she is only accepted because they are engaged and not for her own merit (when she has been in London less than 1 year and most of that time has been engaged to him plus we haven’t seen one scene of her making friends outside of the established group), and hurt that Theo is taking a moment to adjust to this new normal of people judging him (he stated that he would stand by her and endure this together not that there would be nothing for them to endure). The final disappointment is that she is once again ashamed of herself, just more openly now. What was the fucking point?!
It would have been far better to have her trying to be confident in the face of these whispers, trying to stand by Theo and work for acceptance now her secret is out, trying to make connections despite people shunning her and then have a revelation at the end of the episode that this is all so much harder than she ever thought it would be and she’s struggling. That she has been naive about how serious her birth was and that what Theo is doing by standing by her is actually a huge fucking deal. Because by making the secret something Nan views as ‘no big deal’ and a silly thing for people to get hung up on she also devalues the bravery and love for her in Theo’s actions by remaining engaged to her and facing backlash for their relationship.
Maybe it’s just been too long since I’ve had to watch ‘teen’ miscommunication love stories. But then again it’s still captivating and frustrating and enraging in all the best ways in other media so I’m mainly just disappointed because so much of this is Grade A daytime-drama is being wasted.

Stellar Blade's Sexiness is absurd... in ALL the right ways! While the story is badass!
So, I've gotten through halfway the playthrough of Stellar Blade (actually, I'm watching the gameplay as I can't play games like I used so please don't judge me), and it's very clear to me that EVE's sexiness is front row and center. The thing is that it is also done to the point where it is absurd like comic relief rather than objectifying her. The costumes and the emphasis on her butt are not to be taken seriously. At least some of them are. Some are actually kind of trendy and I love the earrings. The point is that they do show off her hot body, but in a way that is also clownish.
In other words, as a woman myself, I stand by not feeling bad about EVE looking beautiful because EVE is a lot more like me that I expected. She's not above laughing at herself and more importantly, she is a good person. I mean, more than half of the side quests she does consist of her doing random acts of kindness for people and she shows genuine compassion to people.
Now as for the story... it's one of the very best video game stories I have seen in YEARS. The setting also adds to it too. I feel like it is one big love letter to the work of Masamune Shirow's (the genius author of Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell) and I see a lot inspiration from Battle Angel Alita aka Gunnm. I also really love the characters and the music dynamite. I never get tired of it and sometimes listen to the soundtrack as I'm doing chores.
Tumblr media
The point is that I think the naysayers are 110% wrong about this game being sexist or an insult to women. I think they are making everything more about her body than the fans are because EVE is not just a "Playboy doll". She is a powerhouse with a heart of gold and the courage of King Arthur while wielding her "Excalibur" sword. She is an inspiring character for women, and men. She just happens to have a great body, but then again, you have to be in shape to save the world and looking hot is side just a effect of being in shape. Just ask Solid Snake from Metal Gear, Goku from Dragon Ball, and others.
Please, let's stop vilifying the beautiful woman because you are in fact missing out on getting to know a really neat character and play a really stellar game. The real act of feminism in gaming is reacting to EVE, or female characters like her, the same way you would a super sexy male character; you give the game and character a chance before judging either.

I think I'm going crazy... I actually can't wait for the Lilo & Stitch live action remake to come out! I think that Lilo & Stitch is my favourite Disney movie ever, if it turns out that the live action is bad, I will take it personal. Seriously, it would be a big disappointment for me.
I've watched the images and the teasers and trailers that are coming out, I think it looks good! I like the actors that they have chosen for Lilo, Nani and David, in particular the girl that plays Lilo is very cute đŸ„č. I have some mixed emotions about the aliens. Aside from Stitch, they look a bit creepy and uncanny. And, as far as it looks like, they will have human disguises, probably because of budget and time. Doing CGI aliens is more expensive and it requires more time. It could make sense, since in a live action things should be more realistic, for the aliens to have a full human disguise, instead of a very cartoonish wigs and hats. I hope they'll handle this well, especially for Jumba and Pleakley, whom I love. I hope Disney and the new actors will pay them justice. A lot is being discussed about Pleakley cross-dressing disguises being taken away, I think it's too early to know or judge. Maybe in his human form disguise he will cross-dress, who knows! I also really loved the fact that he preferred wearing women's clothing, he was a diva and he slayed every single time, and I will be sad too if it was taken away, but again, let us wait to judge. I still have some reservations, we'll see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And talking about Stitch, he actually looks really cute, not creepy or uncanny. The proportions are what surprised me. In the animated movie, he and Lilo are the same size, but in a live action where things should be more realistic, he is the size of a small dog, and Lilo is way bigger than him. I think it looks weird because I'm used to the animated version, but we'll see.
Tumblr media
I'm also really happy about the soundtrack, it looks like it's the same of the original movie. It's the best decision they could make, since it's so iconic and unique to this movie.
In conclusion, I look forward new trailers to change my opinions, but in general, I really can't wait for this movie to come out!

Spotify Tag Game
I got tagged by @sofapup17! Thank you so much 💜
The game: Put your Spotify On Repeat playlist on shuffle and post the first 10 songs!
Honestly, I'm the worst person to do this x'D I don't use Spotify all that often so right now all songs on my On Repeat list are from the Who Holds the Devil playlist I made. So this turned into less of a "what music do you listen to" and more of a "let me explain why I put these specific songs on my Who Holds the Devil playlist." BUT I guess there might be an audience for that, too?
So let's go, I guess?
___
1. Heroes Rise - Tommee Profitt, Sam Tinnez
Definitely more of a Ga On-focused song what with that whole "hero" thing he's got going on and his attempts to make a change in the world. But there are also definite hints of Yo Han in that whole "heroes never die" aspect. Because while what he did was technically illegal and he's more of an antihero than anything else, he IS definitely still a hero. And what he did will be remembered for a long time to come, if nothing else because it gave rise to new heroes (see what I did there? ;D)
This is just a very good song to convey the overarching plot of heroes and the power they hold — but also the amount of conviction and dedication it requires.
2. I Didn't Ask For This - Beth Crowley
I am OBSESSED with this song right now, specifically in relation to Yo Han. There are parts of this song that hits just right for his character, both in the original drama and Who Holds the Devil. I mean:
Take what's left Of my fractured heart Bloodstained 'cause The pieces are so sharp
*chef's kiss*
But also:
*pterodactyl screech*
3. The Sacrament - HIM
My teenage emo phase coming back to bite me in the ass x'D No, but really, there's just something with this song that vibes with the whole religious themes of The Devil Judge. And the longing, desperation, and reverence of Who Holds the Devil.
Also, I just really, really love that piano. So sue me.
4. Die For You - PENTAGON
This one is pretty self-explanatory, I feel. Very much Ga On at the start of Who Holds the Devil, desperately longing for Yo Han. It also perfectly conveys his recklessness and just how far he'd be willing to go to be forgiven for his mistakes.
5. Dancing's Done - Ava Max
Possibly added during a bit of a YOLO moment, not going to lie xD BUT, there are definitely parts of the lyrics that apply:
I wanna give into your dark temptation I wanna touch you like nobody does, oh People like you and me were born to run So where we going when the dancing's done? (Oh)
Because Ga On sure has hell wants to give in to Yo Han's dark temptation, even if he pretends that he doesn't.
6. A Little Bit Dangerous - CRMNL
Yo Han. Through and through. It also has a bit of the same cheekiness as the original soundtrack, which I like. And, I mean:
Let out of the cage, took my chains away I'm so tough to tame now Look at what you made me Look at what you made me do
7. I Want You To Want Me - Chase Holfelder
Another Yo Han song. Like, if you've read The Gentle Light? You know why this song is here. You know about the desperation and the yearning and the need. So, really, I HAD to put this on the list.
BECAUSE PINING.
8. Let Me Be Your Armor - Assemblage 23
I am SO glad this song made it onto the list because this one actually requires an explanation. It's one that might not make a lot of sense in terms of style (it definitely has a different vibe than the rest) BUT. The lyrics. The LYRICS. Like, babes. Listen to the lyrics. Listen to the lyrics ALL THE WAY THROUGH and then tell me this isn't Yo Han (as he sees himself).
This is a song I've had in my folders for literal YEARS (a friend sent it to me as a mood song for one of my OCs) and the moment I decided to make this playlist, I KNEW this song had to be on it.
9. A Dangerous Thing - AURORA
Honestly, I'm not sure if I need to explain this one all that much. It kind of speaks for itself in a lot of ways. Though I WILL say that while the dangerous thing is Yo Han in most situations, just maybe, there might be times when it's Ga On. Especially in Who Holds the Devil.
(... you'll understand after chapter 37)
10. Addicted - MONSTA X
Look. I know we haven't really gotten to that part yet, but they be horny, okay? Desperate and horny. And very much addicted to each other. What more do you want me to say? xD
(for real, though, MONSTA X sure know how to make desperate and horny songs. Mercy is even worse, in the best way possible).
___
Well, I hope that was fun! Even if it turned into an advertisement for Who Holds the Devil and the attached playlist x'D
As for tagging, I tag @shi-toyu because I know you at least use Spotify ;) And everyone else who wants to do it!

Tuesday Typings
I came back from the North American Science Fiction Convention with so many books. Notes on costume stuff, one giant costume todo list, and recent reads/watches as well.
Books acquired recently
The Archive Undying, Emma Mieko Candon, 2023, bought
This is How You Lose the Time War, Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, 2020, bought — finished and enjoyed
The Sng of Achilles, Madeline Miller, 2012, bought
Translation State,, Ann Leckie, 2023, bought
Francis: The People's Pope, Ted Rall, allegedly autographed, 2018, bought
The Stars Like Dust, Isaac Asimov, 1996 paperback printing, gifted
The Courier, Gerald Brandt, 2016, free pile
Alliance Rising, C. J. Cherryh and Jane S. Fancher, 2019, free pile
Foundryside, Robert Jackson Bennett, 2019 Broadway promo printing, free pile
Mica, fille de Transyl, Michùle Laframboise, 2012, free pile — I do not read the French; this is going on a gift pile for a Francophone friend
To Climb a Flat Mountain, G. David Nordley, 2009?, bought after the author gave me an answer to a worldbuilding problem
Burning Days, Glenn Grant, 2011, free
This Virtual Night, C.S. Friedman, 2021, free
To Each This World, Julie Czerneda, 2022, free and signed
The Complete Smoke Trilogy, Tanya Huff, 2019, free
She Who Became The Sun, Shelley Parker-Chan, 2021, free
All of the free books are from Pemmi-Con; half are from DAW Publishers who were really, really generous.
Recent Reading and Watching
This is How You Lose the Time War surprised me with the identity of the Seeker; mid-book I thought there might be another operative tailing them, or a Purple child, or a third side to this war. That last prediction was quite close!
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn - Bande Dessinee Episode: 0 wasn't particularly thrilling, but I value it because it fills out the characters of Full Frontal and Angelo Sauper, and how the Zeonist public sees things before the initiation of the Third Neo Zeon War, aka The Laplace Incident.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been good through season 7; I ned to track down season 8 to see if they later appearance of Ashoka in Star Wars Rebels makes any sense.
Legend of Galactic Heroes: I have finally finished this. RIP to a legend, but we all knew that the death flag for the last person to die was waved at the end of the third season. Rubinsky's end was also fitting: reflecting of how he was no longer part of the plot, he was also no longer part of politics. His last gasp felt irrelevant, and really was.
Pacific Rim: The Black is a 3dcg film that's reminiscent of RWBY and Dragon Prince in style, but with the same Ramin Djiwadi soundtrack, and some neat twists that really delve into the fridge horror of the setting. But this is a kids' show, so there's little blood, the decapitations happen out of frame, and the heads don't roll too far. Episode 7 has a nice "it's dangerous to go alone; take this" moment.
Computing
A 2.1A powerbank is not enough to stably power a Pi 1 B+ with a 4.0" square Hyperpixel Touch display and a wireless keyboard. Big Sad. Next question is if a PiSugar 3 battery controller will work with a Pi 1 B+ or if I should splurge $75 on a Pi 4 for this device.
I'd like to have a mobile compute terminal that's smaller than a 13" laptop, but still has USB ports. Scrollwheel and a button to toggle the OSK would also be nice.
Primary nonwork laptop's keyboard continues to degrade; It's becoming a desk item. Its degradation is the primary driver of the new palmtop development.
Actually, wait, I have a spare CM4 from a StereoPi 2 device. I could use that, with a compatible breakout board maybe. Or I could test the Hyperpixel screen on the Stereopi board directly. Then I'd have a 4" touchscreen mated to a
5" wide board? Well, it'll at least let me test some things, like whether the CM4 works for this use case. Bonus dual cameras is a questionable bonus.
Crafting
KInda burnt out on crafting, tbh. Last two weeks were full of crunch before Pemmi-Con/NASFiC, which netted me a "Judge's Choice in Novice Class" award and "Best Use of Modern Tech" in the Masquerade competition.
Next up, over @glowingskull, I plan to post rundowns of the stuff I made, and maybe some shapefiles, but there's a lot of work left in this costume and I plan to redo large parts of the headgear.
Because, let's be honest, the post-con todo list for that costume is basically:
Better photographs?
Write up the project
Print off a holder for these parts, because I'm retiring them to mount on the wall
Redesign snout, again, to remove grilles and double-thicken all the parts
Resculpt temples and ears of skull
Put a visor in the eye holes
Eye-lights in visor?
Enclose head: back of skull, ventilation, neck sock
Redo the flame staff's camera monopod mount attachment point for durability (may require welding?)
Sculpt a model for the chestpiece, so it's plastic instead of foam
Sculpt a model for arm bracers
And then on top of that I also want to:
Document the Servicer outfit
Sew on a Masonic patch for the Servicer outfit
Build some DIY NVGs for use in costume projects like this one
Write up the Baba Yaga's Hut costume which won Best In Show
I think my next costume goal, after the revised Turaga Vakama, will be an Earth Federation Space Forces officer uniform, so I can give the planned "WTF is Zeon" lectures in character.
The next head goal will be a Deinonychus head with articulated jaw, which requires advancements in augmented reality. Need to get the StereoPi working, or ditch/sell it and switch to paired NVG monocles.
Music
I think it's time for Pacific Rim soundtracks. Pacific Rim: The Black sounds somewhere between the Pacific Rim movies' soundtracks and the tense violin work from the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie with RDJ and Jude Law, soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. Not particularly Australian, unfortunately.
Lego Stuff
Gotta merge the two submarine kits, and build the Emperor's Throne Room that I won at pinball at Pemmi-Con.

Author Ask Tag Game!
Thank you so much to @mthollowell-writes for the tag! I am really getting a lot of these now and I love it.
I'm choosing the The Witch in the Ruins for this tag game which is my current project that I have finished but is still in beta reading/editing phase.
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it? I would say for the most part you could take a few things away from the story. Without spoiling it, a lesson is not to judge someone so harshly as it might come back to hurt you. But mostly it's a story where you can draw your own conclusion. I don't like to (and really try not to) lead my readers to a single conclusion or a way of thinking because I don't like it when books try to tell me what to think either.
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)? Definitely the Dark Souls/Bloodbourne worlds for the visuals, and it has Italian/Latin names and inspired titles. I listened to a lot of Resident Evil soundtracks (the games) and Resident Evil Village was also in my mind while writing. Someone told me it sounds a little like the Witcher, so I guess that. Oh! and one of the main creatures is heavily inspired by a Roman mythological creature of the same name.
What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person? The MC is trying to get home again after bringing shame to her town and being a disappointment despite her magical abilities.
How many chapters is your story going to have? It has four chapters, it's only a novella.
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it? Original work and I will have this on Kindle - E books format and audio in October.
When and why did you start writing? I started it at the end of last year and intended to publish it as a short story for a magazine, however I was late to the notice for it and missed the deadline! I decided to expand it into a novella and keep writing though because I liked it so much.
Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow? My advice is to keep writing, as long as you enjoy it and have stories asking to be be let out of your brain.
Low-pressure tag: @dyrewrites (not sure if you have done this one already) @boundedsea @repressed-and-depressed @quantumlandbooks @digital-chance @aziz-reads @fire-but-ashes-too and anyone else who wants to do the tag!
