keranos? like the magic card?
Batman: I ask that when leaving, anyone who agrees with the approach proposed by me and Superman signs the pamphlet next to the door.
And then the heroes come out, whoever thinks it's a good idea to be discussed again at the next meeting signs with their hero name. but Captain Marvel was the first to sign, so he didn't see how the others signed and didn't know if he should use "Captain Marvel".
He has an argument with Solomon inside his own head that lasted a little less than a second, and in the end they come to a consensus that he can sign as one of the many names of the champion of magic. but they were so⌠simple⌠billy decided to add some details, a signature worthy of an entity that's zibilions of years old and a store of immense magic.
The other day, while Billy is "saving" some kitchen leftovers in his pocket dimension, Batman arrives and approaches him while holding a paper.
Batman: Captain⌠What did you put in the signatures?
Marvel: oh? hmm, my name?
Batman: your name... Can you tell me how to pronounce it?
Marvel: oh. Yes? Ahm, its Keranos. sorry, its hard to read?
Batman: no, it's okay. It was what I thought it could be. It's just that I never found these types of letters before, despite the similarity with the current alphabetâŚ
Marvel noticed that he exaggerated a little with the decoration in the signature: yeah⌠it's a-- rune language that died a long, long, time ago, but I tried to mix it up a little with the letters from the current world so it wouldn't look so strange. The sound of the pronunciation is "keranos", so in our alphabet it could be written with k-e-r-a-n-o-s⌠Next time I'm going to use the normal alphabet, sorry⌠I⌠I didn't think that much when I wrote it.
Batman: of course. Don't worry captain. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a world where your name can no longer be written the way it should be.
Marvel: its... ok, i like Marvel a lot too.
Batman: So⌠would you like us to start calling you Keranos?
Marvel: well, if you want, of course, I have no problem. It's one of my oldest names. but you don't have to if it's confusing, you know, me having several names.
Batman: don't worry. It's a pleasure to meet you, Keranos.
Marvel: The pleasure is mine, mister batman sir!!
There are several league members hiding in the hallway near the kitchen, whispering.
Flash: that's so cool! Marvel is so tight with his personal information, but he's letting go, he even gave us one of his names! That means he's finally opening up, right?
Wonder Woman: Indeed. Keranos⌠This name is familiar to me from the stories my sisters and I told each other. a god of the wrath of stormsâŚ
Hal: Just like the magic card???
Superman: I remembered that too. It's literally the definition of the creature, isn't it?
Hal: technically it's only a creature if your devotion is less than seven, anyway. even the way it is written.
Flash: my god, you are two nerds.
If one day they ask Marvel about the magic card, he will be genuinely confused because he didn't know it. billy never had the money to buy these games.
"oh, is there a game card with my name? a god of storms? wow, I'm embarrassed, I didn't know that name had been kept alive by these stories haha"
I was playing with Billy and Marvel's signature, thinking about how they would write differently in each form, and I ended up thinking about this
I don't know if the captain's fandom took keranos from the magic card, but that's what I found when I looked up the name and I thought it was brilliant

I love all ur blog sm!! Can I ask abt something with the slashers (specially Thomas <3) with an foreigner!reader that don't quit speak english very well and normally forget words?
(Sorry if something is spelled wrong, English is not my native language lmao)
Absolutely, I can!
And because the request didn't specify, this fic will strictly be about speaking a foreign language.
Sorry if this is inaccurate! I'm a native English speaker and don't know many who aren't. Sorry in advance!!
Slashers x Foreigner!Reader
Micheal Myers:
â˘This man will act like he doesn't care but in reality he's so intrigued. (It might be why you're still alive)Â
â˘Heâll spend his time watching you practice your pronunciation and recognition patterns, like it's a movie.
â˘Is he a bit mean about it? Yes. Will he laugh? Probably.
â˘If you find yourself not knowing what certain words are and stumble around until you find the right word, You'd be surprised at how patient he is.Â
â˘If you are very new to the English language he'll secretly get you flash cards and stash them into a place he knows you'll find them
â˘Despite everything, if you ask him for help, he will help. He might be mute but he can write and use TV to aid you.
Billy loomis & Stu macher:
â˘Stu is already romanticizing your language, but instead of using the actual name of your language, he calls it âTalking pretty to meâ
â˘Billy asks if you want any text books or study equipment to help you on your English speaking journeyÂ
â˘Both boys are a surprising help! Stuttering trying to articulate what you mean? They've already jumped in to, A) help save you some of the embarrassment, and B) give you time to think about what you're trying to say.Â
â˘Someone making fun of you? They're either dead or a social outcast by the end of the week.Â
â˘Are you struggling to remember a certain word? These boys are willing play charades until you figure it out. And they won't drop it either, Stu says âItâs bad to give up when you've already come so far.âÂ
â˘Over all it's not so bad (Stu 100,000,000% uses Google translate to figure out how to say âi love youâ in your native language)Â
Thomas Hewitt:
â˘When both of you met, he had never met an actual foreigner before.
â˘He knew people travel around and occasionally some valley girl would end up in their small town, But someone from a whole different part of the world?
â˘His interest in you spiked the moment he heard your accentÂ
â˘Thomas has so many questions but doesn't know how to ask you
â˘With him being mute and your struggles with English, It's not the easiest relationship. In the end both of you just end up pointing at things and making noises to get your point across.Â
â˘Absolutely loves to listen to you speak in your native language, Even if he'll never understand it.Â
â˘When he's first trying to court you, he leaves you slightly damaged flowers (he struggled to pick them) to communicate his affection.Â
â˘even with a language barrier, he's gonna love you like no one ever couldÂ
Bubba Sawyer:
â˘He had no idea people outside of America existedÂ
â˘When You fell into the palm of Texas and his brothers found you failing to remember the word for your favorite snack, They knew you would be an easy target.
â˘When they kidnapped you and brought you to the basement so Bubba could chop you up, he was fascinated by the way you desperately tried to beg him not to kill you.Â
â˘It ended in a huge fight in the family, But he got everyone to let you live a bit longer.
â˘Sits Criss Cross applesauce while you speak for your life. You could babble about anything and he would listen intently.Â
â˘He pulls out his alphabet soup machine and spends hours typing with you. (You help him finally get past the clown level)
Bo Sinclair:
â˘absolute meanie, stinky poopy head about it >:(
â˘will mock your stutters and say stuff like âOh come ON! The word is Cat! C. A. T. CAT! What's so hard about that?âÂ
â˘If you speak your native language around him, He thinks you're insulting him or intentionally hiding something.Â
â˘âIf you could say it to my face in your language you can say it to my face again in mine!â
â˘The same sentiment is not shared when it involves bedroom fun
â˘Will eventually apologize, But that's going to take a whileÂ
Vincent Sinclair:
â˘As another non-speaking fellow he takes his time to make sure you two can understand each otherÂ
â˘Heâll mostly use body language and and little doodles to get his point acrossÂ
â˘Stuttering over a word? He doesn't care, he'll let you work it out without any judgment!
â˘Want his help? He has several books, Vincent will just pull out a book he knows as the word in it, flipped to the page, and point at the word.Â
â˘Love listening to you talk, In English or not. He'll happily let you yap his ear off.Â
Lester Sinclair:
â˘Poor boy was lovestruck when he first heard you talk!
â˘Full on heart eyes while you explain where you're from and how you ended up hereÂ
â˘If you end up fumbling on a word he'll start shouting out potential words for what you're trying to say.Â
â˘Example: âand then I had tooâŚuhâŚum..â âRun? Pee? Eat? Were you hungry? Are you hungry right now?âÂ
â˘So helpful, I know
â˘But the guy is already googling restaurants based off your native cuisine. He's got the date set up.Â
â˘âIt's no biggie, I'm a native English speaker and I still can't get it right!âÂ
Billy Lenz:
â˘Billy 100% understands the struggle of finding the right word to sayÂ
â˘He can't stop stuttering himself, so when you start stuttering you kind of reinforce us in his brain that you were meant to be togetherÂ
â˘He feels like he can bond with you over it, and even feel safer around you knowing that you also mess upÂ
â˘the thing is if you start stuttering, he'll start stuttering. If you can't get it by God he will.
â˘âW-we can't bo-oth be wrong.âÂ
Brahms Heelshire:
â˘this man will 100% try to learn your language as soon as he finds out you're a foreigner
â˘That man has a huge library, there's bound to be at least one book written in your mother tongueÂ
â˘He spends a lot of time practicing your native language so he can speak to you more comfortably
â˘You already know he has children's learning books he'll pull out if you ask.Â
â˘Can't find the word you're looking for? He's already 10 books deep, he'll find it for you.Â
â˘Brahms is a well-educated man and he intends to use His years of learning to helpÂ
â˘If you want to take classes to better your English skills he will 100,000% throw money your way to do so.
Hannibal Lecter:
â˘Now Hannibal really understandsÂ
â˘He's a Lithuanian who learned English as a 10 year old
â˘He didn't struggle as much, But for the first couple of months you bet he was stumbling.Â
â˘If you're struggling with a word, He has a process of teaching you so you don't forget it again.Â
1) Identify what you're trying to sayÂ
2)Slowly begin to sound out the wordÂ
3)Have you recite the word a few timesÂ
4)He'll either teaches you a little tune to remember or he'll do something so you remember the momentÂ
â˘Does it feel a little condescending? Yes. But it worksÂ
â˘He's also willing to pour an ungodly amount of money into your English education if you askÂ
â˘He'll even teach you himself in his spare time
Will Graham:
â˘Doesn't really know what to do, He's a bit awkward about itÂ
â˘He'll also identify the word and repeat it a few times so you can get a better handle on it.
â˘He thinks it's a bit funny and a bit cute when you stutter or mispronounce somethingÂ
â˘He will gently correct you and move on like nothing happenedÂ
The Lost Boys:
â˘holy fucking shit this is a cluster fuck, let's do this one by oneÂ
â˘David
-David, having been around a while, has picked up a couple languages.
-If he does know the language you're speaking he'll speak it back to you and guide you into English better than the other boys couldÂ
-If not, he'll just read your mind and tell you what you're trying to say. It's by far the easiest way to articulate what you mean.Â
â˘Dwayne
-Dwayne being just slightly younger than David has also picked up a couple languagesÂ
-It's really the same if he does know your language But with a little more verbal teachingÂ
-If he doesn't he'll patiently wait until you figure out what you're trying to say.Â
â˘Paul
-as soon as you start to stutter over yourself Paul starts shotgunning words offÂ
-some slightly related to the situation and others wildly out thereÂ
-âDrink? Food? Ocean? Horse? The unforgiving eyes of God and His kingdom???âÂ
-he'll do this to confuse you and have a nice laughÂ
â˘Marko
-Marko speaks English and Italian, so if your language isn't one of those two you're kind of shit out of luckÂ
-âCome on babe, you'll get itâÂ
-He finds it a bit funny but still tries to help in little waysÂ
Thanks for reading <3
Sorry if this seems hastily written together, I haven't had the request in a while so I kind of jumped at the opportunity.

Hey all, know I've been quiet but I'm in the home stretch!! Just gotta survive three more days and then exams are over, pray for me đ
Anyway in honor of me spending my weekend fighting for my life trying to memorize formulas that look like alphabet soup:
Heartsteel helping you study headcanons
Kayn
- Let's be real he ain't helping. Like he understands this is important and you need to focus but he also really, really wants your attention, are you sure it's not time for you to take a break? No? :(
- Like you'll be taking notes and you'll just see him in the background slowly vibrating out of his skin restraining himself from bothering you. But also, he ain't gonna leave unless you ask him to, he'd still rather hang out with you ignoring him than not spend time with you.
- Let him quiz you or something, please he'll do such a good job just pleeeease pay attention to him. Or just talk him about whatever it is you're working on, he'll do his best to follow along but really it doesn't matter if he doesn't understand, if having someone to bounce ideas off of helps you then he's absolutely there for that.
- Largely mollified if you work while sitting on his lap. He'll do his best not to be distracting, he promises. That being said, if you try to work one minute past when you said you were gonna stop your laptop is getting ejected and he will be pouncing on you, he's been so patient goddamnit.
Aphelios
- Will actually help you study. He's pretty well read so there's a few subjects he can help you with, otherwise he just sits next to you and keeps you on track. There will be no getting distracted by your phone on his watch, and you will be taking regular breaks. Mostly he's doing his own thing so he doesn't bother you, like mixing tracks with his headphones on, but trust me he Will notice if you start slacking off.
- Honestly he's the kind of guy who appreciates just spending time in the same space as you
- Recruits Alune to retrieve snacks. She's also very willing to help if it's a subject she's familiar with, but she's also very talkative with people she likes so Phel will shoo her away if she's distracting you.
- If he can, will help organize your notes or put together flash cards. Great at quizzing you, though he also tends to ask insane niche question that really tests your understanding.
Sett
- The only reason he had decent grades in high school was because he didn't want to upset his mom, so he knuckled down and worked his ass off. He sucks at studying otherwise, he never had the patience for it, so he really respects your determination
- If you tell him you're gonna work and then end up on your phone he Will notice. He knows all the tricks in the book, he used them himself, you are not gonna start after just one more video, you're gonna start now. He's pretty hard to argue with when he's got his Boss voice on.
- That being said, he ain't gonna be much help with academicsâeven the stuff he's great at, like songwriting, he doesn't really consciously think about; he just has an intuitive sense of what does and doesn't work, and goes purely off of what feels right.
- Any other support he can offer though, he's There. You want snacks? A quiet spot to study? Coffee on the hour every hour? He's got you, ask and you shall receive.
- He's drawing the line if you start going overboard though, working tired is worse than not working at all so you're gonna call it for the night and come back when you're back on your game.
Yone
- Another man who's likely to actually know the subject you're studying. He'll sit down with you and help you make a study plan, and then he'll make sure you actually stick to it. A firm yet gentle handâheâs used to dealing with that lot, keeping you on track is easy mode comparatively. Also, he'll find a way to minimize potential distractions so sneakily you won't even notice, like you get the urge to go on your socials but your phone's somehow all the way over on the couch so it's too much effort.
- Offers to let you study at his place. It's a very quiet and relaxing space, and also he point blank bans any of the other band members from bothering either of you while you're working.
- You thought that thing about herbal tea helping with concentration was an old wives tale but whatever is in this little clay cup is legitimately a god send. He also makes his own wagashi, and it's so pretty you'd almost feel bad about eating it if it didn't taste so good.
- Helps you with flashcards and quizzes and anything else that will help you feel prepared. Will go out of his way to read up on the subject so he can help you better.
Ezreal
- This guy 100% has undiagnosed ADHD, I don't make the rules. Unlike Kayn who has some pretty obvious hyperactivity symptoms, Ez is one of those people whose like ânahhh I can't have that, I get on just fine when it's something I'm interested in :)) in fact I'm so good at studying things I'm interested in that I'll do it for hours at a time without taking breaks! :)) that's normal!â. So while he really wants to be helpful, he has horrible studying habits and honestly he's impressed you're starting before midnight the night before your test. If you need someone to keep an eye on your bad study habits, he is not the guy. If you need a quick confidence boost or moral support though, he's absolutely there for you.
- Extremely knowledgeable on a very specific and eclectic range of subjects. If you happen to by studying ancient history he will explode with excitement, babygirl he knows facts you couldn't even begin to be assessed on.
- He'll bring you your favorite snacks and drinks! Occasionally he'll start talking to you only to remember you're busy and cut himself off mid wordâhe doesn't mean to, it's just whenever he finds something interesting he immediately wants to share it with you.
- Second you say you're done he'll insist on doing something to celebrate, whatever gets your batteries recharged, whether that's going out and doing something fun or snuggling down and watching a movie, he thinks you deserve a reward.
KâSante
- Actually very studious, he knows how to knuckle down and get something done. If you have trouble keeping on track he can help with that. Like he gets this gaggle of dumbasses to meet deadlines, he's pretty good at figuring out what motivates people
- His knowledge base is mostly music theory and visual design, but he'll help out if he can.
- He'll invite you to his place and make you lunch as a treat, which is very motivating because he is a fantastic cook. Plying you with food is also his way of maneuvering you into taking breaks when you need them.
- He can tell when you start slowing down and need to call it for the day, and gently extracts you from your work by suggesting you take a walk and stretch your legs or something.
Bonus
- Whole band is throwing you a party as soon as your exams are over, whether it's a celebration of your hard work or a âthank fuck it's overâ bash. There will be another party when you get your results back, they'll take any excuse for a party if it means you'll be there.

To Be Heard
I've watched Cream and S-260-7 share comradery as the mail doll illuminates half the pair on the techniques and specifics of sign. By now, they've reached the point where they can communicate smoothly with each other by movements of their hands. All the while, Sugar appears to have been falling further into despair. I watch it fall into the same maladaptive pit Apple fell into as it devalued its worth before Heart opened its eyes, something contrasts in Sugar's distress. Today, it lays alone in its and Cream's room, reading one of many books in circulation among the dolls. In its eyes are tears, which seem to idly fall from its face as it slowly progresses from page to page. Despite not knowing what the book is, I know it's not the story inside which Sugar is focusing on, this is something occupying its conscious side to keep it from breaking from what seems to be bothering it.
Meanwhile, in the mail doll's room, the two are having an inaudible conversation. Thankfully, as I've been studious in the meaning during these lessons, I can understand the meaning.
S-260-7 begins by raising its finger to point towards its chest, and I interpret, "This doll is proud of how far you've come."
"Thank you, but it's worried about its counterpart's reception." Cream's motions are slower, but not easier to follow. Its sign is considerably more careful.
The mail doll nods before beginning again, "It's sure that your counterpart will come around. It will understand when you explain it."
"Then this one will explain." Cream stands up, thanking S-260-7 again before exiting the room and proceeding to join Sugar.
As Cream enters, it sees Sugar laying on the bed. It approaches from the other side, sitting cross-legged and looking at its counterpart with concern. It reaches a hand to try and comfort it, but its hand stops as it hesitates. The gesture recedes, returning to Cream's side when it decides it may be better to give its counterpart the space to approach on its own.
Sugar closes the book, shakily wiping the tears away, "This one is sorry it's not good enough..."
In a panic, Cream approaches Sugar, wrapping its arms around it, and holding it close. Its head finds its way into positioning its mouth to whisper into Sugar's right ear, before it speaks something to it, which I can't hear.
"But you're learning to communicate without it. It doesn't mind speaking for you, Cream, this one is okay with being your voice!" Sugar rotates around, wrapping its arms around its counterpart in kind.
Cream whispers something else as its eyes well with tears in reply.
Sugar's eyes close tight as it sobs and pushes into its counterpart, "You're not a burden! This one doesn't mind! It likes doing this for you!"
A long quiet moment passes as Cream holds Sugar closely in its arms. It strokes Cream's back in a comforting motion before it speaks up again.
"But isn't that what it's for? You haven't been able to speak up, so instead, this one is your voice... It doesn't need anything more than that..." It lays into Cream's warm body.
Cream backs away from Sugar slightly. It lifts it up gently, removing Sugar's hands from its face, and watching its tear stained eyes open as they dart away from the doll. Cream extends its right hand to its counterpart, and its eyes drift to it. Sugar hesitates for a drawn out moment, before it shakily reaches out to place its own in Cream's. Slowly, Cream leads Sugar out of the bedroom, and back to S-260-7's room. Cream retrieves its flash cards for the alphabet, handing them to the mail doll, and taking back its other hand, to clear it to speak with sign after the mail doll accepts the deck of flash cards.
Cream raises its hands, "Would you teach this one's counterpart as well?"
S-260-7 nods before it begins organizing the cards into their initial order once again.
As was a familiar process to Cream, Sugar follows the flash cards as shown to it. It attentively speaks letters in response to hand signals shown on cards, and holds up its hands in response to letters. It studies late into the night with Cream leaning up next to it the whole time. It feels familiar to it as it goes on, like Sugar has done this all before. Eventually, the two retire back to their room for the night.
Cream signs to Sugar, "It wants to not have to rely on you as much, not because it wants to spend less time with you, but because it doesn't want you to feel as though you have to be there for it at all times." "This one is supposed to be your voice, Cream, and that's okay! It doesn't mind!" Sugar protests against its counterpart's words.
Cream sighs as its eyes begin to well up, "You shouldn't have to speak for this one at all times. It appreciates everything you've done for it, but it wants you to have your own existence."
"Well, it wants you to be part of that existence!" Sugar's eyes begin to shed tears as it grows desperate.
Cream wraps its arms around Sugar, and for the first time, I clearly hear its own voice, "It wants you to be part of its existence too, Sugar. But it feels bad that that's by nature rather than by choice."
"Then... can it continue learning sign with you? Can we learn together, and when we are together, can this one still be your voice? not because it has to, but because it wants to." I'm surprised at how clearly Sugar speaks through its flowing tears and sobs.
Cream nods as its voice returns to a whisper. I read its lips, as it speaks, "Of course, Sugar. It loves when you're there for it. This one just wants that to be a choice, not an obligation."
The two of them remain in their embrace for a long time after that. I don't remember seeing the end of it. To think I succumbed to the whims of exhaustion first...

Checklist for starting a language
- (if needed) learn the alphabet
- basic grammar for forming words and pronunciation
This process alone would take a few hours maybe 2-3 depending on the difficulty and the difficulty depends on your native language
- 1000 most common words in your native language (translate to target language)
Translate favorite medias into target language
This could be songs, movie quotes, scenes, or anything from your own writing.
Attempt to pronounce these by looking at the writing.
Iâve been making flash cards for alphabet and sounds
Iâm new to language learning so if anything I said is less effective than another strategy please let me know.

âEverybody knows Gonzo.â Or you will after reading this poem by MartĂn Espada from his new collection Jailbreak of Sparrows, with its richly personal narratives and soul biographies in poetic form.
Gonzo
Everybody knew Gonzo, his cigarettes and cologne, his gold crucifix, the white T-shirt he wore to every meeting. They leaned closer to listen whenever he spoke in the circle at the rehab center, some with eyes shut, seeing his confessions of addictionâs demons and sobrietyâs angels at war.
No one knew Gonzo signed his name with an X. The tutor at the rehab center held up flash cards and sounded out the letters: A, B, C. There was no alphabet song in Gonzoâs head, no teacher at the blackboard. He said the letters, one by one. At the letter S, he stopped. The tutor studied Gonzoâs nose, long but not as long as the nose of the Muppet with the same name. S, she said again. Gonzo had no front teeth, no place for his tongue to go. He puffed and sprayed, a man unable to navigate the river of his own name: GonzĂĄlez. He hid his face in his hands, unlettered cards in his head, as if the tutor could not see him now. A sob surged through him, a beast chained to the rock of his ribs for fifty years, since the days the roosters woke him up for school in Puerto Rico. He wiped his face clean. Gonzo was clean: clean fingernails, clean-shaven, clean white shirt.
The tutor waited, thinking: He doesnât know his letters, but he knows every street in Paterson by name. She squeezed Gonzoâs wrist once, then again, till his eyes met hers. She held up the next flash card. She said: Say T.

Ko-fi thank-you sentences for an anon; the Gotham Kid. Cut for length.
âGet out of the way, kid,â Pete says, stepping up behind Lilyâs perch below the narrow barred window above the doors. She stares down at him warily, then flicks her eyes to Kid. He nods, because itâs a risk, but itâs a risk that needs taken right now.Â
And more importantly, because itâll get her to leave the door so sheâll be out of the splash zone if shit does go down.Â
âYer funeral, dumbass,â she says as she flashes Kid the sign for careful, then hops down and runs off.Â
These kids are way too fucking good for this bullshit, Kid thinks, his chest squeezing painfully.Â
Superman could do more for them than he can. Even Clark Kent could.Â
Kid . . . Kid can just chase them away from where he thinks the splash zoneâs gonna be and hope it works out.Â
He feels all of the guys outside lift a hand at once, though only one of them actually knocks on the door. Doesnât bode great for them not being Clayface, he thinks. Or Hatter victims. Or something equally fucking horrifying.
Could always be a total unknown, of course. Could always be that.Â
âWhoâs there?â Pete calls, sounding oddly . . . grim, almost. Or maybe . . . wry?Â
Some part of Kid expected him to say it jokingly, for some reason. Like a knock-knock joke, or . . . like he was mocking or teasing the problem, showing off sly humor and casual confidence. Not . . .Â
Why did he expect that, he wonders?Â
Noâwhy did Superman expect that?Â
Because it was definitely Supermanâs memories that expected that.Â
âOpen up,â the man who knocked drones, which is notably not a response to what Pete said. All their bodies still feel too dense, but the knockerâs built a little different from the others.Â
Meaning, his body has enough in the way of lungs to actually speak.Â
Fuck, Kid thinks, tightening his hands into fists.Â
He knows ASL because Superman has an eidetic memory and has been slowly but surely making his way through learning the basics of as many languages as he can, for crisis situations and the like. Or at least, he knew enough ASL to get by, and heâs taught himself a little more since then. Except itâs only enough to âget byâ when thereâs someone else around who knows it, and he doesnât know how to relay anything about how wrong all these fucksâ bodies feel to a bunch of strangers who probably donât know any sign at all.Â
Though even if he did, heâs not sure he wants to play that card either.Â
But if it might get the others hurt . . .Â
Kid hesitates, then reaches out for Peteâs sleeve. Pete jerks his arm out of the way without looking, the reaction an obvious reflex, then stares blankly back at him over his shoulder.Â
âThis really the time, kid?â he asks.Â
Kid . . . hesitates, then points at the door. Then he fingerspells n-o b-r-e-a-t-h-e, hoping maybe the guy at least knows the alphabet. He doesnât want to get into the whole total lack of lungs and other vital organs issue, for obvious reasons. Nobody in the neighborhood would question him saying something like that, at this point, but he doesnât know if Peteâs gonna listen to even this much. Assuming heâs even understanding him right now, anyway.
Pete . . . tilts his head.Â
âBoss?â one of his guys says, eyeing the door warily.Â
âHm,â Pete says, then looks up at the window above the door. âWait here.âÂ
âWait forââ another one of his guys starts to ask, and Pete jumps up, grabs Lilyâs abandoned perch, and pulls himself up onto it all in one swift motion. The move looks smooth and effortless, and Kid might even believe it was if Superman didnât know damn well exactly how much effort it takes a human to move like that.
At least the unenhanced ones, anyway.Â
Kid remembers how green Peteâs eyes are again, and just . . . wonders, a little.Â
Pete peers through the window above the door, then grins. Itâs a mean, merciless one. Not the one Supermanâs memories expect.Â
Kid doesnât know quite what those memories do expect, though. Just that itâs something else. Something . . . different.

I know you haven't posted my other ask yet, but I just got another idea! I've operated on the assumption that Bubba doesn't know how to read at all. Could you maybe write about Reader trying to teach him how to, well, read? Maybe some of his favorite genres, if he picks it up as a hobby eventually?
(And for future reference so I don't have to specify every time, asks from me will always have a preference for gender neutral or male readers!) -âď¸
No worries Anon! You can request as much as you like! Youâre pretty much the only person in my inbox. Plus, you have such amazing ideas that I love writing! I hope you like it! đ
Bubba Sawyer
After a long day of chores and killing, Bubba was exhausted and ready to get out of the Texas heat. As he walks into the house, he sees you in the living room sitting on the couch observing an object, resting in your lap.Â
You look up from the object and smile at him, patting the cushion next you: informing him to sit on the couch with you. As Bubba joins you on the couch, he notices the object is a book.
Bubba never knew how to read. His brothers never taught him, let alone, never let him go to school. He was always needed around the house and didnât have time for education. Â
He points to the book in your lap and squeals in his pig language. Youâve been with Bubba long enough to understand him. What you can make out from his squeals is that he wants you to teach him how to read??? Well, if thatâs what you want Bubba that you can do!Â
When you first start teaching him how to read, you teach him the alphabet. You canât read words without knowing the alphabet. Bubba is a pretty fast learner; he has to be if he wants to keep up with the rest of his family. In a couple of days, he got the alphabet down to a science.Â
Now that Bubba knows the alphabet, you teach him how to read simple words. You get a bunch of sheets of paper and cut them out into many small boxes. You put different words on the small papers: flash cards. You and Bubba practice with the flash cards every night after dinner. Overtime, Bubba came to know every word on every flash card. He could read! Somewhat.Â
You bought him some picture books. You and him would sit on your shared bed every night, reading them. You would read each word slowly so Bubba could learn the pronunciation of the words. Heâd babble each word after you would say them.
Once Bubba perfected the basic skills of reading, he starts reading small novels. Wait hold on! By himself?! Yes! Youâll catch him reading all sorts of stuff: mysteries, action, fantasy. You name it! He loves reading everything!Â
Bubba has a huge imagination. He loves to pretend that he is one of the characters in the book.Â
His favorite genres of books are definitely fantasy and romance. He likes how bubbly it makes him feel and he loves all the different mystical creatures. Unicorns are his favorite. Heâll always try and find a book that has a unicorn in it.
He loves to read to you and his brothers. You will all sit in the living room while Bubba babbles the words written on the pages in the book. Heâll mimic the characters actions and babble the different tones of the characters dialogues. Itâs so cute and Bubba has a lot of fun doing it.Â

haiii!! sorry to bother! I've been wanting to continue learning Japanese (cuz I'm so tired of seeing contents and not understanding a single thing) so if it's okay, can you give some tips on where to start, routines, or anything at all? Thank you!
haii anon! idk if you sent me an ask before this but ftr you r never a bother! i do love getting asks, hehe. i will put stuff under the cut! i hope it can be of a bit of help đ
learning japanese tips â
where to start
first things first, learn the basic alphabets. hiragana and katakana make up the basis of japanese â if you cant somehow drill these in your mind, its gonna be hard throughout. for example, you could:
use a flash card site: quizlet is what i used. but its not the only site out there; honestly there r probably better ones out there atp lmao
get your traditional paper and pencil, and drill drill drill.
to an extent, using textbooks like genki (or tobira for more advanced learning) can help with basic grammar and kanji. or it can sort of guide you there by using simple dialogues, articles, etc.
also, the internet has some resources to help you as well, geared toward japanese learners. probably the most well-known one would be tae kimâs japanese guide, but other resources like maggie-sensei and jlpt-sensei r also options to look into!
at a certain point, when learning kanji (a v long-term, ongoing process), i would recommend investing time to get acquainted with the parts of the kanji, known as radicals. why? bc kanji at its core is derived from images, so understanding parts of the image can help you glean the meaning! in the same way you look at a painting, and through visual analysis, can understand the purpose behind it. truth be told, when im translating, if i dont know a word, i usually use context clues and whatever kanji or radicals i can recognize in the word itself to guess the meaning.
for example: lets take the word [čŹ] (kusuri), which means medicine. here we can see the [âşž] radical on top. this radical is called [ăăăăăă] (kusakanmuri), and it denotes âgrass.â and if we look on the bottom, there is [漽] (raku), which means comfort or relief, that sorta vibe. so combining these, it would be âgrass that can make you feel comfort or relief,â which is medicine (i.e. back in the olden days, herbs were often used as medicine). so, like this, even if you werent sure how to pronounce the kanji, you could glean its meaning, especially after learning kanji for a while.
routines
hands down, my biggest recommendation for beginners would be nhk easy japanese news! its easy to keep up a routine bc its the news; theres always smth going on to read there. just invest some time to read an article on the site. they go out of their way to use more simple vocabulary, and they put furigana (the kanji pronunciation) for every kanji they use. if you use google chrome, you can also look into extensions like rikai-chan, which allows you to easily search up the meaning of kanji you see on a webpage.
songs r also a good way to get acquainted as well. there r some sites where you can search up lyrics with the kanji and their meanings, plus translations, and romaji as well. animelyrics dot com, for example, has some nice japanese learning features if you search for some songs on there, though their db focuses mainly on anisongs.
as you feel more confident in japanese, you can also sort of listen in on vtubers or radios and whatnot. this mainly has an audio focus, but it can help sort of expose you to the way native japanese ppl speak. for example, i sorta listen in on this japanese vtuber playing through twisted wonderland (for the first time)âŚhe speaks in kansai dialect, actually, which is the same dialect jude speaks in the jp version. but i would more so recommend this option if you feel more comfortable with japanese especially.
