Prophet ﷺ would give glad tidings to his companions upon the arrival of Ramadan, saying:
the month of Ramadan has come to you, a blessed month Allah has prescribed its fasting upon you during it, the gates of the heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed
and the devils are chained in it is a night better than a thousand months whoever is deprived of its goodness has truly been deprived

After losing their beautiful home in Gaza—a place once filled with endless joy—Majed and his family were thrust into the horrors of genocide.
Now, all they can do is look toward their new life with hope, praying that Allah guides them on the right path.

Story written by @fabricated-pessimist
While Majed and his family were fortunate to evacuate to safety in Egypt, their struggles are far from over. His eldest son has lost his job, and his daughter’s education was abruptly halted by the occupation. They are asking for even a small contribution—just a dollar—to help rebuild their lives in Egypt.
Egypt is currently grappling with an economic crisis, marked by disrupted supply chains and rapidly rising prices. This has made it incredibly difficult for Majed’s family to find stable housing or meet basic necessities. Imagine enduring the unspeakable horrors of war, only to face further hardship while trying to find stability in what should be a place of safety.
You can donate to Majed’s fundraiser [HERE].

As we welcome Ramadan, many of our brothers and sisters will be breaking their fast in chains or behind bars....alone, oppressed and forgotten. Their only comfort is their yaqin upon Allah's Promise. And their only strength is in their patience.
O Allah, free the imprisoned, have mercy on their suffering, and grant them victory over their oppressors. Return them to their loved ones, strengthen their hearts, and let their pain be a means of elevation in Your sight.

Hi, I recently got a new job and one of my coworkers is Muslim! I casually asked him “Are you sunni or shia?” and he was so thrown off by that question? He said he was sunni. I asked him the difference between the two and he very angrily said “Shias believes in various prophets and we only believe in allah” which, idk whats accurate or not. I noticed you are shia so, is he correct in this? And why did he get so upset? It makes me regret asking him such questions 💀
Short Answer: Your coworker is wrong and prejudiced about Shi'a Muslims, because there is an assumption that being a Muslim is exclusively holding to the doctrines of Sunni Islam.
Long answer: We believe that Prophet Muhammed (sawas) was the seal of the prophets. No other prophet comes after him. Imam Ali (a) ís the successor of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh&hf), serving as the custodian of the message of the Qur'an as it was left following the Prophet's death and safekeeping it from distortions. Ali (a) is not a prophet. We venerate him because the position of caliphate was usurped from him following the Prophet's passing, leading to the chain reaction of disasters for the Muslim community. We are simply uttering our partisanship by invoking his name despite centuries of persecution.
Like the Prophet (pbuh&hf) said: I am the city of knowledge, and Ali is its gate. Whoever desires to the enter the city should enter from the gate.

Oh soul, how do you know the medicine of your illness, yet don’t take it, and how do you complain of pain and fatigue yet are stubborn upon that which harms you?
Oh Allah I am afflicted with my self, so assist me.
I am to blame, the decisions that led me here are mine, the laziness upon ibadah and my stubbornness and shamelessness upon sin is that which made my heart ill, it was never my friends, my family or my environment. It was always me. But by Your might my Lord, I let go off the chains of my nafs and let it free, it chained me instead now, controlling me now when it once was me who controlled it. I am low and humiliated in front of this nafs that I accustomed to quick subservience whenever it calls me to sin.
I feel helpless, and I don’t say all of these words out of despair, but only so that I can keep a souvenir of my old self once I get back in control of my nafs in sha Allah. Days are in turns, one for us and one against us.
These days are against me, I feel attacked from all sides when no one but me can see these hidden fighters. Perhaps because of my ability of making a big deal out of everything? Or perhaps because i’m at the verge of collapsing so any small trial feels like a reason for despair and worry? Or perhaps because of the waswasah of Shaytan who wants me to despair?
The reason doesn’t quite matter now, because finding the cause of this issue won’t change the solution, for regardless of the stem of the problem the medicine is always patience and prayer.
What matters is that after hardship there is ease like our Lord said, and He does not speak in vain -حاشاه-, this is what I believe and this is what keeps me firm against myself, and against the turns of time.

Ramadan is not just a pause button for bad habits—it’s a chance to erase them from your life entirely. This blessed month is a divine invitation to turn back to Allah with sincerity, to break free from the chains of sin, and to replace every weakness with strength in faith. Don’t let this opportunity slip away by merely pressing “pause,” only to return to the same patterns once it ends. Instead, let Ramadan be your turning point, a renewal of your heart, and a step closer to Jannah. Remember, time is fleeting, and none of us are promised another Ramadan. So, worship with humility, seek forgiveness with sincerity, and make this the Ramadan that truly transforms you.

In another narration, "The gates of paradise are opened, the gates of jahannam are locked, and the devils are chained."
And in another narration, "The gates of mercy are opened."

The Sultan, they said, was a good man. Soft, quickly moved to tears. Out of compassion, he bought the freedom of a Christian woman's stolen daughter. Even Walther von der Vogelweide, the minnesinger in distant Germany, praised the "mildness" of the powerful ruler in the Orient, whose name has a good reputation in the West: Saladin, a righteous man.
He was a man who always kept his word, even to his enemies.
He let his subjects drag him to court, because God's laws applied equally to everyone. Also for him, the ruler who managed to do what no one had ever managed before: to unite the Islamic world of the Middle East after centuries of discord and to wrest Jerusalem, the holy city of the Muslims, from the Christians in 1187.
His name translates as "righteousness of faith", and Saladin is indeed a devout Muslim. Nevertheless, after his conquest of the Holy Land, he allowed the Christians and Jews there to continue praying to their God. This is another reason why, more than half a millennium later, Western Enlightenment thinkers would make him the epitome of the tolerant ruler.
But this al-Malik an-Nasir Salah ad-Din Abu'l-Muzaffer Yusuf ibn Ayyub ibn Shadi, known as Saladin for short, also had other sides.
He could be treacherous, vile and mean. He did not shy away from murder. Nevertheless, this man fascinated his contemporaries. He became one of the most revered rulers of the Islamic world and the most important opponent of the Crusaders.
Saladin was born in 1138 in Tikrit (in present-day Iraq), the son of a Kurdish officer. During his political career, Saladin was the first to bring Egypt's army under his control.
Saladin, a Sunni, now founds two universities where theology is taught according to Sunni theology - a signal that he is on the side of the population. He also abolished a number of taxes that contradicted the Koran and the teachings of the Prophet.
Saladin's subsequent conquests shock the Christian world. By 1174, his power extended from North Africa to the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. In 1186, he ruled from the Nile to the Tigris.
At the height of his power, the Sultan even dreamed of taking the Holy War to Europe, conquering Rome - and putting the Pope in chains.
The Crusaders conquered Jerusalem in 1099 and held it until Saladin besieged it in 1187 and handed it over to the Ayyubid dynasty, a Muslim sultanate that ruled the Middle East at the beginning of the 12th century.
Saladin wanted to recapture the city, which had previously been ruled by Muslims.
For Muslims, Jerusalem is a place where important events in the life of Jesus and other important personalities took place. It is also the place where the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven according to the traditional interpretation of the Koran and other texts.
In Sunni Islam, Jerusalem is the third holiest city after Mecca and Medina. Muslims believe that Muhammad was brought to Jerusalem during his night journey (Isra and Mi'raj).
The name Jesus is mentioned twenty-five times in the Holy Qur'an, often in the form 'Isa ibn Maryam, which means "Jesus, son of Mary". In the Quran, he is given the unique title "Messiah" (al-masih in Arabic), which means "anointed one". He is considered one of many prophets from the lineage of the Prophet Ibrahim, or Abraham (peace be upon him). Many Muslim traditions regard it as an ideal example of spirituality. Unlike Christians, who generally believe in a triune God, Muslims believe that Jesus was a great prophet who was to lead mankind on the straight path of monotheism and obedience to God (Allah).
When Jerusalem also fell, two kings and an emperor set off for the Holy Land with their armies from 1189 onwards. One of the monarchs is King Richard I of England. Even before the armed pilgrimage, he had already earned himself an honourable name: "Lionheart."
Saladin lies in wait for the Christians in the forests of Arsuf near the Mediterranean coast. But King Richard of England had anticipated the attack; on 7 September 1191, his troops won a clear victory. Nevertheless, the Muslim army is still strong enough to block the road to Jerusalem.
Saladin's reconquest of Jerusalem in 1187 prompted Pope Gregory VIII to organize the Third Crusade. From 1189 to 1192, Saladin lost Acre and Jaffa and was defeated in the field at Arsūf. The Crusaders retreated to Europe without seizing Jerusalem, but Saladin's military reputation had been damaged. He died in 1193.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “When the first night of Ramadan comes, the satans and mischievous jinns are chained up, and the gates of the Fire are closed, and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. And a caller cries out: ‘O seeker of good, proceed, O seeker of evil, stop.’ And Allah has necks (people) whom He frees (from the Fire), and that happens every day.” Sunan Ibn Majah 1642 In-book reference : Book 7, Hadith 5 // Jami` at-Tirmidhi 682 In-book reference : Book 8, Hadith 1

Fussy
A piercing wail cut through the night. Oh, no, Salim thought as he stirred from his bed. The cry was nothing new to him; having a fussy baby made him used to such sounds. But it might pose a problem to the marine currently crashing on Salim's couch. Which was why Salim tried getting a babysitter for Zain while Jason was visiting. The babysitter fell through at the last minute, leaving Salim to desperately plea to Allah that his infant son might sleep through the night just this once.
Allah, it seemed, did not listen.
[It's all right, son, Daddy's here,] Salim whispered, reaching to lift his crying son from the crib. He began to gently bounce and sway, rubbing Zain's back, humming softly. Sometimes that was enough to lull his son back to sleep. This time Zain kept crying.
“Salim?” Jason's voice called to him from the living room. A moment later he heard a knock at his door. “You good in there?”
“Zain woke up,” Salim answered apologetically. “I think he's hungry.” Jason didn't respond. Salim opened the door one-handed and found the American waiting.
Jason looked like a completely different person outside of his combat gear. He wore boxer-briefs—Salim had been unconsciously picturing an American flag design and was surprised to see these were fairly plain—and a muscle shirt. His dog-tag were visible, hanging from a silver chain on his neck. Jason's brown hair was messy from his recently disturbed sleep.
Salim didn't realize he'd been staring until another wail from Zain brought him back to reality. Jason's lips moved up into a little smile. “Kid's got a pair of lungs, don't he?” he remarked.
“He's hungry,” Salim repeated. Jason nodded and flicked on a lamp so Salim could find his way to the kitchen. “Thank you,” he said. He started gathering what he needed to feed his son, trying to juggle it one-handed since Zain usually got even fussier if Salim put him down.
“Lemme hold him,” Jason offered.
“Oh, no, that's all right,” Salim assured him hastily. “I've done this a thousand times.”
“I got two empty hands, Salim. Lemme hold the kid.” Salim wanted to argue again, but he wasn't sure why. He was just so used to doing this alone. Salim relented and held out his son.
Jason was very careful in taking Zain into his arms. Salim had to correct the arm positions and how Jason supported the baby's head, and soon Zain was snug in the American's arms. Zain's cries dimmed a little as he was exchanging hands. He and Jason stared at each other, and for a moment Zain was almost calm. But then he started crying again.
“Oops. Better go make that bottle, Salim.” Jason's eyes met his and Salim felt his heart skip, his body warming. He quickly looked away to focus on preparing his son's bottle.
Salim knew all the steps by heart. After his wife left him and Zain, he taught himself very quickly how to prepare baby formula. It was a little strange doing it with both hands or without securing Zain in his baby seat. Zain had settled again and he turned to see Jason had offered his finger for the baby to latch onto. He was singing to Zain and rocking him, making Salim's heart skip again.
“What is that song?” Salim asked him.
“The Pokemon theme song,” Jason explained. “Sorry, I know it's an earworm, but it's the only kid's song I know.”
“The what theme song?”
“It's a kid's show. I used to watch it when I was gettin' high.” Salim shook his head, turning away to hide his amused smile. The bottle was soon ready. He held out his arms to take his son back but Jason asked, “Mind if I do it?”
“You want to feed him?” Salim clarified.
“Sure. Why not?”
“You're my guest. He already woke you, and--”
“Babies cry,” Jason reasoned with a shrug. “I knew what I was gettin' into.” Salim didn't know what to say. “Salim, do you know what the Marine Corps motto is?” Jason didn't wait before answering: “Semper fidelis. It's Latin. Means 'always loyal' or 'always faithful.'” Salim still said nothing, waiting to see where Jason was going with this. “You havin' a baby don't change that for me.”
Salim was still speechless. He handed over the bottle and Jason encouraged Zain to take it. Salim watched, feeling almost numb with shock. He had seen the extent of Jason's loyalty to him before, down in the catacombs. It somehow felt different here. There were no alien forces to battle, no life-or-death threats. This was ordinary, mundane, normal. This was a baby who disturbed their sleep.
“Hey, what's wrong?” Jason asked worriedly. “You okay?” Salim wiped the tears off his cheeks.
“I'm just tired,” he lied.
“Take a nap,” Jason advised. “I got this.”
“I want to stay up with you,” Salim insisted. He darted a glance at Jason, feeling suddenly shy. Seeing this man hold Zain so carefully, so gently, without a single complaint had Salim's pulse going faster.
Tonight showed him a possibility he hadn't considered. He was secretly grateful to Zain for being so fussy.
