قَالَ: قَرِيباً أَجَلِي، بَعِيداً أَمَلِي ، سَيِّئاً عَمَلِي

My death is near, my hopes are far, and my deeds are bad.

Some men among the Prophet's Companions saw in their dreams that the Night of Qadr is in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: I see that your visions have agreed on the last seven nights of Ramadan. So, whoever seeks it and is keen on pursuing it, let him seek it and pursue it with diligence by increasing the good deeds, as it is more likely to be in the last seven, which start from the 24th night if the month of Ramadan is thirty days, or from the 23rd night if the month is twenty-nine days. https://hadeethenc.com/en/browse/hadith/4545

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ رِجَالاً، مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أُرُوا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فِي الْمَنَامِ فِي السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ أَرَى رُؤْيَاكُمْ قَدْ تَوَاطَأَتْ فِي السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ، فَمَنْ كَانَ مُتَحَرِّيَهَا فَلْيَتَحَرَّهَا فِي السَّبْعِ الأَوَاخِرِ ‏"‏‏.‏ صحيح البخاري ومسلم حديث ٢٠١٥ -١١٦٥

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Some men amongst the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the last seven nights of Ramadan. Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "It seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan)". (قد تواطأت) أَي: توافقت، وأصل الْكَلِمَة بِالْهَمْزَةِ، وَفِي رِوَايَة البُخَارِيّ فِي التَّ��ْبِير من طَرِيق الزُّهْرِيّ (عَن سَالم عَن أَبِيه أَن نَاسا أروا لَيْلَة الْقدر فِي السَّبع الْأَوَاخِر، وَأَن نَاسا أروا أَنَّهَا فِي الْعشْر الْأَوَاخِر، فَقَالَ النَّبِي صلى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسلم: (التمسوها فِي السَّبع الْأَوَاخِر) ، وَلم يقل: فِي الْعشْر الْأَوَاخِر، لِأَنَّهُ كَأَنَّهُ نظر إِلَى الْمُتَّفق عَلَيْهِ من الرؤيتين، فَأمر بِهِ. قَوْله: (فَمن كَانَ متحريها) أَي: طالبها وقاصدها، لِأَن التَّحَرِّي الْقَصْد وَالِاجْتِهَاد فِي الطّلب، ثمَّ إِن هَذَا الحَدِيث دلّ على أَن لَيْلَة الْقدر فِي السَّبع الْأَوَاخِر لَكِن من غير تعْيين. عمدة القارئ

وأما العملُ في ليلة القَدْر فقد ثبَتَ عن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - أنه قال: "مَن قام ليلةَ القَدْر إيمانًا واحتسابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ ما تقدَّم من ذنبه" (٤). وقيامُها إنَّما هو إحياؤها بالتهجُّد فيها والصَّلاةِ، وقد أمَرَ عائشة بالدُّعاء فيها أيضًا.

قال سفيان الثوريُّ: الدُّعاء في تلك الليلة أحبُّ إليَّ من الصَّلاة. قال: وإذا كان يقرأ وهو يدعو ويرغبُ إلى الله في الدُّعاء والمسألة لعله يوافِقُ. انتهى. ومرادُه أن كثرَةَ الدُّعاءِ أفضَلُ من الصَّلاة التي لا يكثُر فيها الدُّعاء، وإن قرأ ودَعَا كان حسنًا. وقد كان النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يتهجَّدُ في ليالي رمضانَ، ويقرأ قراءةً مرتَّلةً، لا يمرُّ بآيةٍ فيها رحمةٌ إلا سألَ، ولا بآيةٍ فيها عذابٌ إلَّا تعوَّذَ، فيجمَعُ بينَ الصَّلاةِ والقراءةِ والدُّعاء والتفكُّر. وهذا أفضَلُ الأعمال وأكمَلُها في ليالي العَشْرِ وغيرِها، والله أعلم. وقد قال الشعبيُّ في ليلة القدر: ليلُها كنهارِها.

وقال الشافعي في "القديم": أَستَحِبُّ أن يكونَ اجتهادُهُ في نهارها كاجتهادِهِ في ليلها. وهذا يقتضي استحباب الاجتهادِ في جميع زمان العَشْر الأواخر، ليلِه ونهارِه، والله أعلم...قالت عائشة رضي الله عنها للنبيّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -: أرأيتَ إنْ وافقْتُ لَيْلَةَ القَدْرِ، ما أقولُ فيها؟ قال: قولي: "اللهم، إنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ العَفْوَ فاعْفُ عَنِّي" (٤). العَفُوُّ مِن أسماءِ الله تعالى، وهو المتجاوز عن سيِّئاتِ عبادِهِ، الماحِي لآثارِها عنهم...وإنما أمر بسؤال العَفْوِ في لَيْلَةِ القَدْر بعدَ الاجتهاد في الأعمال فيها وفي ليالي العشر؛ لأنَّ العارفين يجتهدون في الأعمال، ثم لا يرون لأنفسهم عملًا صالحًا (١)، ولا حالًا، ولا مقالًا، فيرجعون إلى سؤالِ العَفْوِ، كحالِ المُذْنِب المقصِّرِ... مختصراً من لطائف المعارف فيما لمواسم العام من الوظائف في ذكر السبع الأواخر لابن رجب

POV: What’s the one thing you ask in Laylatul Qadr?

Me: That next Ramadan, Gaza wakes up to adhan, not airstrikes. That children run through streets, not over rubble.

That mothers set the iftar table without counting the empty seats.

That fathers come home to laughter without burying their kids.

Ya Rab, I don’t ask for myself tonight. I ask for my brothers and sisters in Gaza. I ask for the mothers who cry over their children, for the fathers who feel helpless.

Let this be the last Ramadan they suffer. Let next Ramadan be filled with peace, with freedom—with life. Ameen.

The Dua of Musa (AS):

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir

‘My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.’ (Surah Al-Qasas, 24)

The Dua of Yunus (AS):

لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِين

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin

‘There is no god worthy of worship except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.’ (Surah Al-Anbiya, 87)

The Dua of Nuh (AS):

رَبِّ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

Rabbi inni maghlubun fan-tass-ssir

‘I am helpless, so help me!’ (Surah Al-Qamar, 10)

The Dua of Ayub (AS):

أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Innee massaniyad durru wa Anta arhamur raahimeen

‘Indeed, I have been touched with adversity, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.’ (Surah Al-Anbiya, 83)

The Dua of Muhammad (SAW):

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْهَمِّ والْحُـزْنِ وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oothu bika minal-hammi walhazani, wal’ajzi walkasali, walbukhli waljubni, wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal.

‘O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.’ (Sunan an-Nasa’I 5449)

Sometimes our life can be so fast paced that we don’t have time to even think. Then Ramaḍan comes around and forces us to slow everything down — our ṣalāh deepens, our Qur’ān lingers on our tongues, our qiyām, our du’ās feel weightless and our life feels more meaningful. Everything just seems to stop and it’s beautiful how it realigns our hearts to what truly matters. In that stillness, we find beauty, we find clarity and we find closeness to Allah swt.
