it is 8pm. my gangly, freshly in highschool, fifteen-year-old brother knocks on my door. what is it, i say?
do you have a cross?
like-- like a christian one?
... maybe...
now. we are pretty good buddies. i want to aid him in whatever this strange mission might be. well, what do you need it for, i ask?
... i want to dress as jesus for halloween...
and you might be thinking about right now that jesus isn't a very scary costume idea. it's not. here's the deal:
i live in eastern europe where halloween isn't really a huge shebang.
but my brother and i go to an english-heavy school that makes an effort to let kids have fun on the last day before autumn break.
our halloween is on the 27th of October
effectively, it's halloween without the scares or the candy, and teachers get to give lessons while staring down snow-white, patrick bateman, and jesus (appearently).
we laugh at the idea of jesus in the classroom. and i say to him: you... do know that jesus didn't walk around with a hand-held crucifix, right? for obvious reasons?
i guess... man, they would never recognise me without it though...
we sit in silence and contemplate the loss of plan-jesus-christ. we do that for about two seconds, while i come up with a slightly morbid idea to save the day.
we don't need a hand-held cross. we need a bigger one.
one big enough to carry on his back.
we immediately run to our mother with this hilarious idea, who proceeds to tell us that christ means a lot to certain people and that dressing as him at all would be insensitive and rude. my brother and i insist that the humor of the costume would be the "punching up" kind, and that there is nothing else more perfect for him to be, since he looks like if sleazy j crawled out of a renaissance painting and got a clean shave.
whatever, our mother says, it's your school. do whatever you want, i don't care.
now, i'm sure most of you know that no word in that sentence is loyal to its dictionary meaning. basically, my mother just told my brother:
if you do that i will not call you my son again <3
so it seems that plan-jesus-christ is a no-go, afterall.
I propose that he could be moses--who was at least as cool as christ, except he didn't die--i mean he did, but at the respectable age of 120, and in a way that didn't upset so many people for so long.
however, my brother is INSISTENT on wearing a white sheet. our father and I take turns brainstorming, and one after the other he vetoes:
classic ghost costume
rákóczi ferenc
obi van kenobi
anakin
and many more
it all seems lost. he is debating not even going in on the day of halloween-lite. this grade of high-schoolers are a hair's width away from never witnessing the comedical genius of my brother. that is until he says:
do we have a white cloth with red stripes on it?
...why? we ask.
oh, i'll just dress up as An Arab.
now.
i'm sure the exact same line of thought ran through my head, my mother's head, and my father's head. it went so.
we are all white.
oh my god, there has never been a geopolitically worse time to dress as "an arab".
how do we explain this to him.
should we explain it to him? in depth?
he is fifteen. his brain development is being stunted by his gang of likewise fifteen year old boys who share a single braincell the moment they get in a discord call.
peer review is the only kind of research that matters to him, because he is suffering from the notorious curse of being fifteen.
if he experiences heavy pushback on this, there is nothing that can stop him from dressing up as his idea of "an arab", going to school in that, and probably making awful jokes.
ALL WHILE SHARING A NAME WITH US
no, um, i don't think that would be good, all three of us say.
okay, i guess...
suddenly, our mother is a lot more accepting towards the idea of her youngest son dressing as the big j man, son of god, now that she knows the fight is between him, and the idea of "an arab" conjured in a fifteen year old's mind. in fact, she is suddenly rather supportive of plan-jesus-christ, something she has never been in her fifty years of life.
my brother wraps a white sheet around himself, ties a sash with a red scarf, grabs a loaf of bread and a wine glass, and suddenly JC is standing in my doorway.
to sum it up, tonight is the story of how, through many tribulations,
somehow,
miraculously,
almost unbelievably so,
a mildly problematic and inaccurate costume of oily josh is the shield that protects the family name from the shitstorm that would be my brother roaming the school halls dressed in sandals, a white sheet, and a red-striped kitchen-rug over his head.
such a funny thing just happened but plain text isnt worthy of conveying it. i need to Format this
#to be clear. i know jesus wasnt white either#all of this is meant to entertain#barking#storytime#textpost#halloween#war mention

Bruce is actually really attractive, and I have enough reasoning to make a list
He's:
Tall (. Tall enough to hit his head on the vault doorframe)
Long-legged

Has a straight nose bridge
Has high cheekbones (more noticeable in 2nd pic below)
Has a strong jawline

Sharp eyes, but they aren't small (plus eyebags if you're into that)
Overall, he has strong, attractive facial features
Has broad, refined shoulders. You can tell he works out (or he did, when he was alive)
Even has a thick, muscly neck

He has MUSCLE. Is SCULPTED. NOICE. VERY NOICE. (nice arms. Nice shoulders. Nice neck. Nice legs. Nice butt-)
(There are actually panels where you can see some of his muscles. Other than those already shown here, he's got bricky thighs-

-and in the panels where we first get his name dropped, he's got those shoulder blades too-)
The one time we see him smile, and he actually has a scary one

Has small, kinda sharp pupils, and his eyes remind me of a cat. We only ever saw him tense or defensive, so his resting/listening face is really cute

Other than the physical appearance stuff, he also:
Takes shit without batting an eye (patience, knowing it's just how Kudo is, etc)
Kudo being all "Cut the crap Bruce and give it to me straight", after Bruce tests his blood and is rightfully Concerned because they just faced AFO
Put up with Kudo's experimenting and testing over Yoichi's transferable Factor
Did ya'll see the look on Kudo's face when he realized he had Yoichi's Factor/will? Kudo was going to start in nonsense and Bruce just dealt with that.
Also something I noticed when looking back at the images here; Bruce has bandages on his arms in the void. But not when he faced AFO in the sewers.
Were he and Kudo cutting their arms open in their experimenting over Yoichi's theory? Is this why Kudo has two gauntlets instead of his one? Why we never see his bare arms in the void? That he always keeps his arms down so there's no slip?
Is smart enough to run blood tests, plus has enough common sense to pick Shinomori as his successor
He picked a guy who avoids society, has an Ability to detect danger so he can always stay away from AFO, is also a coward so he's never going to go throw himself into danger, even without knowing instinctively he stands no chance, etc.
Meanwhile, Kudo chose Bruce, who he played Hot Potato Yoichi with; but he did also trust Bruce, and put the only pure combative Ability in OFA through Bruce.
These two made their choices based on what they valued and saw the Factor needed.
Is logical, analytical, and calm.
He tried advising Midoriya on their Abilities in One For All, especially his own.
Midoriya then tried ignoring him about using Fa Jin for the first time, but found he was right, thinking: "Dammit!! I had [Lady Nagant] right where I wanted her, but... ugh! The Third was right. My parallel Quirk processes are all screwed up!" (ch. 314).
Plus, when Midoriya fixed his processing mistakes, Bruce was analyzing the way he reached his new conclusion. Pure facts, no bias, very calm, just saying it as it was.
We never see him panic. When he's caught by surprise in the sewers by AFO, Kudo, and Yoichi's little bubble event, he immediately reacts. He doesn't falter, he just knows he has to do something right now.
Was more willing to listen than Kudo to Yoichi's beckon, and probably was just following Kudo's rejection of Midoriya
While we don't see Kudo's face, we see Bruce's eyes when Yoichi calls on his heroes. Bruce was more open and receptive, or at least more impacted.

Bruce was also the one to start talking, while Kudo just kept quiet.
He actually communicates a lot
When Yoichi called them to support Midoriya, Bruce started talking to paint a picture of why they thought the way they did, so Yoichi understood where they were coming from.
(Though he seems to beat about the bush sometimes, since Kudo spoke up to be direct on how they couldn't just put their trust in some starry-eyed teenager. Plus, when Kudo tells him to just tell him what's wrong [double Factors])
When Midoriya first used Fa Jin against Nagant, Bruce came out just to tell him he knew what he was trying, but that Midoriya wasn't ready; and Midoriya found he was right. Midoriya just didn't want to listen to him then.
He asks Kudo for clarification after finding Kudo had two Factors in him after the sewer incident ("Just to be sure, All For One didn't touch you, right?") Kudo knew him well enough to go "stop beating around the bush and tell me", so Bruce was probably gonna start with questions, theories, and trying to understand everything in general, before saying "yeah you have two Factors. Don't know why".
Is strong-willed and loyal.
He followed Kudo, even to death, carrying on the cause he started until it ended with him.
Plus, when talking about how AFO needs a strong will to override OFA's own, we first see Bruce, Kudo, and Yoichi.
AFO couldn't steal OFA because the will was too strong for him, and that was back during Banjo's time. Since Shinomori never actually tried opposing AFO and just hid, we can assume the first Three (Yoichi, Kudo, Bruce) already had an accumulation of strong willpower that made OFA un-stealable. Those three are a strong enough foundation, and the main wills, that the other users just become bonuses.
Kudo, also saying that Midoriya needs allies with the same will and drive as him... hey Kudo, you're talking about yourself and your old allies, aren't you? That's why you look at Yoichi and Bruce when you say this.
Not only is Bruce attractive, but he's got good character. THE END.
#yes this is a bruce appreciation post#am i biased? yes. am i right that he has these features? also yes.#hes actually a very attractive person. hes got all the right features for it#plus hes smart (some medical knowledge) is really loyal strong-willed and patient#he puts up with kudo SO much#from being bossed around to taking home yoichis brother to whatever the heck kudo made him do to figure out OFA's transfer properties.....#i didnt think much of bruce originally#then i started doing resistance fic stuff and now hes a fave#hes a little blorbo#that i throw in terrible situations for my own entertainment#used his scary smile for comedy purposes#like when he made a kid cry once. or when a meta child was afraid of him so they bit him#has patience to deal with kudo and co. but also. has enough bite to snark them. is how i like writing him#oh? background character? well lemme just *picks him up* EXPAND ON THAT-#fic stuff: he tries making a good impression on a girl and kudo is ruining it immediately#he doesnt know what to do because the two always banter#kudo: fuck you#oc: fuck me yourself you coward#he sees through a rose-lens that kudo is trying to rip off his face#appeciation kinda turned analysis in general#bruce#kudo#yoichi shigaraki#bnha#mha#spoilers#boku no hero academia#my hero academia#NOT YOICHIS BROTHER. i meant Yoichi / AFO's brother in a prev tag up there but theres too much tags i dont wanna rewrite to fix that#(image limit and tag limit)

i love when people point out the 'family is hell' theme in spn and then go like 'do not romanticise this!!! this post is not for you' as if spn itself didn’t end up with the family is hell brothers being soulmates happily meeting up in heaven after 15 seasons of dark romance tropes thrown upon them.
no one romanticizes 'family is hell' more than supernatural itself.
#not even starting on how they washed john of his sins as well#im watching the vampire diaries s7/8 rn and i kinda forgot how dark and twisted the cw's idea of love is#this wasn’t only a spn thing it was the same romanticized dark tropes in all these series every day of the week#and it treated sam and dean the same way as it did delena. you would get the same tropes whether it was abt family or lovers or whatever#and never not once did they say: this is wrong irl and you should be disgusted :/#it was always presented as romantic#and why wouldn’t it be#it was the age of twilight and 50 shades romance and the morality police of today were still in pre school#no one except for extremely religious conservatives held this up to real life values bc it was just a tv show meant to entertain

Poster of My Stand-In EP.11 - Love is Merely Madness
Producer Yuan tweeted that the English tagline took inspiration from Shakespeare's As You Like It
Love is merely a madness; and, I tell you, deserves as well a dark house and a whip as madmen do; and the reason why they are not so punish'd and cured is that the lunacy is so ordinary that the whippers are in love too.
The Chinese tagline is "有美人兮,见之不忘" which can be translated as "There is a beautiful person, I will never forget them after seeing them"
Producer Yuan explained that this Chinese tagline comes from an ancient Chinese poem and she feels that it describes the visible yearning and longing Ming has for Joe in EP.11
#yyds entertainment#my stand in#my stand in the series#i've seen a few interviews with yuan where she spoke chinese too. i love the fact that she read the novel in chinese#which probably meant she got all the nuanced that english translation of pbd lost in the process#i need danmei adaptation rights to fall into hands like herrrrrrr

I just love it when Luke and Nic reacts to the show. They are so invested it’s like they’ve never seen it and they’re not the actors playing in it 😂
But also this clip of their reaction has me laughing when they mentioned they had to reshoot the scene

And thank god they did. Otherwise the fandom wouldn’t only be on fire right now. There would be a freakin riot and a takedown of Netflix headquarters
#you guys the season was meant to be darker like we were told originally#and judging by the reaction to the entrapment line a darker season would really have sealed the fate on Bridgerton#more so than now#and you are all asking for the original uncut version when really the original uncut version just had more anger and not more sex#sometimes this fandom makes me laugh#sorry but I had to say it#I’m being highly entertained#polin#bridgerton#bridgerton season 3

#like not to say all polls are like this because they’re not!!! some are really entertaining and engaging and do care about people’s thoughts#and hey don’t get me wrong i have participated in some of the petty polls myself. like I am not free of sin#but it’s getting to obvious and tiring and actually a little pathetic oops#and yes this is inspired by a “do you like tommy?” poll but it’s about many more of them!!!!#like the “bucktommy endgame” ones that circulated around a while ago#they’re meant to incite rage and very clear divide between people who answer one thing or another and I don’t know how productive#or healthy that is nowadays in this fandom#anyways….#911

It's baffling to me that a certain subset of the SW fandom is willing to accept some of TCW’s most ridiculous story arcs and blatantly OOC characterisations as literal canon, but then pretend that they 'can't believe' that Padme could possibly fall for Anakin in the actual Prequels films.
Really? You can believe that space-godzilla goes on a rampage and destroys a sector of Coruscant, that several of the main characters are kept as slaves by an evil cat-queen, that Obi-Wan fakes his own death (complete with a pretend funeral) and callously traumatises everyone who cares about him in the process, and that Maul somehow survives TPM and is at one point a ROBOTIC SPIDER ...
... but you can't believe that two child prodigies who formed a bond while mutually aiding one another can meet again years later under intensely emotional circumstances during the outbreak of a galactic war and legitimately fall in love with each other and get married?
Really???
#i say this even as someone who finds TCW entertaining#i just don't think it counts as literal canon cause the plotlines can be beyond ridiculous#and a lot of the characters' dialogue and behaviour doesn't align with the film canon and is often completley OOC#and while I realise that Star Wars in general can be quite silly#and the saga is meant to be a stylised space fantasy and not realistic#there is still a huge suspension of disbelief is required in order to pretend that certain story arcs in TCW actually 'happened' in-univers#and yet somehow far too many TCW fans can't so much as extend the courtesty towards Anakin and Padme's relationship?#a relationship which is actually very meaningful and relevant to the overall themes and story of the PT x OT saga?#you can believe all that silliness but not space Romeo and Juliet??? COME ON#it's so disingenuous#and very telling...#tcw discourse#fandom discourse

Small compilation of Charles looking kind of cunty in X-Men: Children of the Atom
#brieuc reads comics#charles xavier#marvel comics#Like I said I am kind of conflicted on this Charles#There is certainly an ableist undercurrent with his character because of how overtly manipulative he is#They sometimes draw him very malevolently so there is an idea that he is meant to unsettle you which inevitably feels part of his disability#But he is undeniably an entertaining character to read in this comic. His attitude his impulsivity his militaristic nature#they're all very interesting takes on Charles in a time where he was still by and large the kindly old schoolteacher.#I don't think the ableist undercurrents are particularly egregious in the grand scheme of X-Men comics but it IS there.#I do wish we got more of him and Magneto despite myself because the comic never really picks a side in between them.#There are comics where Charles is clearly meant to be right and comics where Charles is clearly meant to be wrong.#But this comic doesn't ever really choose? And Charles in it has moments of righteousness and of being deeply incorrect#Which is a human trait but isn't a nuance we often see applied to him#I dunno. Basically I think I enjoyed it all things considered.#Probably my favourite of the O5 comics I've read so far although it definitely needed more Jean#But I guess to be fair given Jean is the last one to join it makes sense#She just feels like an afterthought or narrative device more than an actual character which is a shame.

One of the biggest problems of writing that Frasier post is that the logic of 90s comedies is not real life logic. It's not just that you can just pick which exaggerated thing to believe more (and sometimes you need to outright pick between two mutually excluding canon facts), but also the degree to which you believe anything. Which is fun for theorizing but also terrible for theorizing because to argue one way or another you need to create the fiction that the coherent narrative you are pointing out has value of truth in a universe where the value of truth is the rule of funny.
#This I'm saying about Frasier applies to others btw of course#like The Nanny suffers from those very same problems too#plus prestige tv in the early 2000s really messed with people's understanding of the extreme make-up-as-you-go quality of older tv#It's acknowledged with Cheers for the most part#But like yes Maris becomes more and more of a monster as seasons go by because the creators did take a direction after a few seasons#but seasons 1 and 2 at the very list (of Frasier I mean) are VERY undecided on whether they are going to save Niles and Maris' marriage#or take the Daphne route#And there's so much about expected genre tropes and the structure of sitcoms involved in those decisions!#the rule of funny being the main rule of a world above that of coherence and plausibility truly is a double edged sword#Like I'm confident I can write a narrative as to why Maris is actually not a monster at all in the first seasons of Frasier#And that at the very least some of the jokes are not meant to be taken seriously#but then to prove that I would have to point out all the times the narrative shows Niles mirroring Maris' bad traits#which of course are also ruled by the rule of funny!#Niles worrying about Maris ogling the pool boy while he's been ogling Daphne#Niles talking fondly of how one of their favorite past times when they were just married#was to laugh at people who wore white after labor day!#someone else could of course believe THESE are the ones played more for comedic effect#and believe the meanness of Maris as more real#(again still talking those early seasons)#and like it's not that serious#horrible people can be entertaining and comedy capitalizes on that#it's the emotional equivalent to the physical violence in old cartoons#it's not supposed to be realistic and taking it to be so is silly#on the other hand reimaging how the characters and the story could go in different directions#if the story WAS a drama is deeply compelling#but then how to convey you are just having fun theorizing the dramatic possibilities of unserious comedy#without coming across as if you were taking the comedy to be a drama#see the tough spot I'm in

There's a certain something something to Bojack Horseman that makes it not really furry media despite ostensibly having all the elements it needs. I think I need to rewatch that Patricia Taxxon video bc for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is
#is it the art style? the content?#i feel like furry stuff today and furry stuff of the 90s i occasionally see and like disney robin hood is all on a continuum#like theres a timeline there#but bojack horseman is like. outside of that#but how???#it literally cant be#i just dont see it and think furry#i do remember the video mentioning sensory elements of furry content which#in all honesty#bojack horsman does Not do im my memory#like dog characters act like dogs but theyre not fluffy even if they technically are#funny how they confirmed horse characters have horse dicks tho. thats histerical love it 10/10 no notes#the art style is probably part of it a bit tho because every animal is just animal head + fur or feathers or whatever + normal human torso#regardless of anything#with no tail#except one scorpion#so its stylized but its not flexible like most furry stuff is#i dont wanna say it doesnt allude towards the autistic though because i really have no idea#might send her an ask#theres also the fact that the characters arent fursonas unless they reference someone specific and then they rarely are mesnt ro mean shiblt#beyond puns#like mr. pb isnt someone as a dog. hes a dog#but maybe all furry stuff is like that#i think the animal stuff in BH is meant to be entertaining and connect the audience to a certain reality where accidently winning a ski race#to become governor of california is possible in the same universe as serious decades long history of alcoholism#having the MC be a horse opens the door for him to drink comical levels of alcohol and be a former sitcom character in-universe#which is a) funny as fuck and b) makes it easier to stay invested as the show slowly but steadily tells you in season 1 early on that ->#things do matter in this show and the things you find funny are also frequently very real and we will tell tou what the difference is if#you listen. so theres that#hit tag limit gdnt

Poker night with the farmer and the adventurers
Who would be good at poker?
I think Lance and Camilla would be the best since they would both keep a vague smiling face and it would be impossible to guess what they are thinking.
The farmer is also be surprisingly good at it since they will have a wide variety of expression that don't necessarily match with whatever cards they have.
Marlon and Gill are old adventurers who are very familiar with game nights among their peers and know their fair share of tricks (and cheats).
Isaac would suck at it since he's too easy to annoy.
Alesia and Jolyne are good at the game but prefer to watch others play.
Magnus is a joy killer who finds these types of game a waste of time.
Jadu probably prefers more complex and engaging table top games but gets outvoted every time and has to play card games with the rest of the players.
#all hell breaks loose when the farmer gets accused of cheating but no one can prove anything#but without anyone knowing the farmer ate a lucky lunch just before the game#also you could count cards in the older versions of the casino#and that was funnier than the purely luck based games we have now#since it meant the farmer had the guts to try and cheat qi in his own casino#anyway the farmer is apparently not above cheating at games#and probably only stopped doing it at the casino because qi would literally murder them... again#and i think neither is marlon#half way through the first game both the farmer and marlon look at each other with the realization that they are both counting cards#camilla always finds these nights very entertaining#sve headcanon

Ergo the impression I get from Gehrman is that he's a sad, lonely, pathetic, kinda awful old man. And this reflects on everything going on his existence (existence, not living cause Kos knows what's going on with him is not a life).
Dude cries out for people who would or could not save him cause of their own issues (Laurence turns into a beast and Wilhelm is literally rotting alive). He builds a doll of his student (but it's not right, never really meant to be accurate when you are so starved for companionship) who cared more about her own problems and then killed herself cause of them. It appears no one alive seems to really remember him in a way that actually matters.
Fitting ending I'd say, for a man who tried to a build a legacy and school system (the Hunters) that brought upon so much trauma and pain out onto Yharnam and the Great Ones. The price of hubris.
#Gehrman the first Hunter#Bloodborne#d musings#Was entertaining the thought the other day if the Doll was ever meant to be a representation of Maria#or rather this guy is so lonely and pathetic that he choose the face of one of the only women he really Knew for his fictional companionshi#and then when the Doll came alive he was put off by how wrong it all was#not saying this is meant to be an accurate reading (it isn't really) but food for thought

call tgirl dommes without bottom dysphoria the tower of Bable the way their presence makes my speech incomprehensible and the way that when fully erected they can show me god
call tgirl dommes with bottom dysphoria the tower of Babel the way their presence makes my speech incomprehensible and the way that a pillar is to be removed by a most divine act because it should never have existed and it's removal shall bring great relief to a being who rightfully rules over me
call post-op tgirl dommes the tower of Babel the way their presence makes my speech incomprehensible and the way that religious folk insist they defy god whilst in reality their existence is testament to humanities ability to alter this unfair world to bring joy and peace to those who are part of it
#this was originally meant to just be a joke about getting flustered near trans dommes but then the comedy demons conjoured forth all of that#i don't even remember writing half of it#the English teachers don't want you to know this but anything is like anything if you look closely#like fuck it uhhh bees and bread#yeah those are suitably random#well i guess they both warm my heart#they both have a crunchy exterior and a soft squishy interior#they can both be used to feed people through various means#what else uhhhhh#nah i can't think of anything fuck it#ants and transistors?#both work together as a small part of a greater whole to achieve things they could not individually comprehend#both are regularly kept in plastic boxes in large numbers for humans entertainment#someone has probably figured out how to run doom on ants it's the kind of insane thing someone would do#anyway yeah you get the point#similarities are wherever you want them because almost every quality something can have in this world is a concept made up by us that#can be bent and shifted however we like because they never really existed anyway
