thinking about, Zhao of all people in the avatar Zuko AU because like...

okay. so the captain in charge of the ship that deposited Zuko in the Earth Kingdom at the start of his banishment was Zhao. he considered the task an honor, as it was a direct order from the Fire Lord himself. he saw the foolish prince's pitiful performance at the Agni Kai. He expects that he'll be dead by month's end.

now. imagine.

he's at the North Pole. He's been promoted several times. he's leading an invasion of the Northern Water Tribe. He thinks this is the moment of his destiny. the moment he kills the moon spirit and brings an end to waterbending and the water tribes in one fell swoop. he knows where the spirit is hiding. he knows how to get there.

someone is waiting for him when he arrives.

zhao is no fool. he knows the Avatar is here. he's already sunk several of his ships. he's heard about the Earth Kingdom boy called Li who now fills that role. he's even heard about his airbending and earthbending companions... but he's not concerned. they're all children and the Avatar is only half-trained.

but the person waiting for him at the spirit oasis is no earth kingdom boy.

it's prince zuko.

he scoffs. he assumes simply that zuko has turned traitor, thrown his lot in with the Avatar. whatever keeps him alive. any ship in a storm, as they say. he certainly looks like he's been through quite the ringer- there's no trace of the prince he once was.

he's the only one here. their only defense is a pitiful child who was still afraid of his own fire the last time zhao saw him.

zhao smirks. this will be easy.

zuko inhales. exhales. shifts his stance. zhao has a split second to recognize that it's not a firebending form before a pillar of earth slams right into him, taking the wind out of his lungs and wiping the smirk off of his face.

prince zuko is alive. prince zuko is the avatar.

It is supposed to be miserably cold and snowy this weekend (we are getting the full brunt of the incoming Arctic blast). So naturally, the (already feeble) boiler in my apartment building has selected this very moment to die. They are supposed to be replacing it, but their maintenance schedule is often, uh. Leisurely. I also don't have to go into work on Monday since MLK Day, so that will be four long days of brrr.

As such, I will not be doing much other than sitting inside wrapped up in blankets with the space heaters blasting and, we all hope, possibly writing more fic (seize the moment while it lasts, etc). I shall grandiosely imagine that I will finish BOTH a Land of Snow and Shadow chapter (which is more likely since I already have a lot of it written) AND possibly a second new Unknown and Static Strange chapter. (Zomgz.) We will see.

like every time I see a high-note text post about the percy/frank/hazel dynamic it's about "WOW frank and hazel think percy is so cool hazel literally thought he was a god he is so powerful." like yeah. did you guys know that they're also friends and they love each other!!!! did you know that percy admires frank and frequently praises him and encourages him to build up his self-worth and confidence! did you know that hazel comforted percy when he was emotional and scared at the neptune altar in camp jupiter and he gets angry when phineas insults and degrades hazel for being undead! did you know that frank and hazel saved him when he was so frightened and disturbed by evil centaurs and cyclopes that he was paralyzed and couldn't move!

did you know that frank and hazel also just have their own things going on divorced from percy because they're heroes of olympus too! did you know that they aren't just decorations for percy's character they are their own people! idk something to keep in mind (I'm a SON stan if u can't tell)

This is so not me starting an argument, I promise, but can you explain why Nevecanis still makes sense in the Treviso is Blighted timeline? Isn't he in a pretty bad place, to be starting a romance with anyone?

Hello! Worry not, I'm fine explaining my personal point of view as long as it's approached in good faith (which I believe you did).

Important: this is my personal view after two Minrathous > Treviso playthroughs.

I think when it comes down to blighted Treviso & Nevecanis, there are a few factors to consider.

One of them is Rook's personal involvement vs. Neve's lack of it. Unlike Neve, Rook is the sole leader making a hard decision in the situation where either of the choice options are horrible scenarios with its own consequences. There's a degree of power dynamic that does not, to me, appear in the scenario where Treviso is saved. We have to remember that the question of autonomy and ability to navigate his own life is very important to Lucanis: he loses this trust he might have obtained in Rook having his best interests in mind, but he never has the chance to lose the same trust in Neve, a person who, ultimately, is in the same boat with him.

Another aspect is how Neve is as a person and what she brings into the relationship. Now, blighted Treviso, within the game's narrative, is the story where Spite and Lucanis do not reconcile. Lucanis voices actively seeking out a way to separate himself from the spirit-demon. Neve is a talented mage that (as we learn via codex entries) has continuous conversations with Lucanis on the matter. She is helping him go through with his choice in the same way Rook in saved!Treviso scenario helps him go through reconciliation. There's nothing lost, so to say.

Aside from that, Neve is a deeply empathetic, emotional person who knows boundaries and limits. She is observant, smart, and non-pushy; she would be able to give him the space he needs while also keeping an eye on him. She's just... as good a partner as saved!Treviso Rook is, the path to healing is simply different— and complicated with outer trouble I am not mentioning here.

Lastly, Neve and Lucanis share a common ground. It is rather emphasized through their build-up that each of them understands the other's pain over seeing their city burn. This is not an aspect that Rook understands. A Crow!Rook is the only origin that would understand the pain of losing Treviso— but a Rook de Riva picking Minrathous is just a double blow to Lucanis' trust.

And to finish this on a note of understanding: Personally, I do believe that Lucanis is in a very bad mental place in blighted Treviso scenario. I ranted to a few mutuals that his life seems to be hooked on a tragic end in this scenario. Hardened Rookanis would be an unequal resentment-filled relationship with an unstable man with a demon holding a grudge. A relationship with Neve, in my opinion, is not going to hurt him. Would it last? Would it lead to actual separation from Spite? Would she be able to help? I don't know. But I don't think she would be the reason for his doom; if anything, she could light it up a bit.

I hope it makes sense? I'm not picking a fight either btw! I'm actually excited to drop my thoughts on this and thank you for the opportunity!

yes absolutely, i imagine that too! conversely, i think mihawk would have a little bit of trouble adjusting his balance and reach with a body missing one arm, as well. it's interesting to think about how they both would be forced to change their fighting style, and whether or not they would exchange swords.

mihawk's been seen using yoru with just one hand so he could probably pull it off with shanks's body. also interesting to think about shanks tripping up on having two arms until he naturally slips into his old fighting style again--or would he? because there's also the question of muscle memory, right? would mihawk's body automatically do things that shanks isn't predisposed to doing, and vice versa?

the other thing i find intriguing about body swapping in one piece is the question of whether or not your haki powers would switch as well. they say haki is spiritual presence, so presumably your haki switches if your spirits switch, but if it's the kind of spirit that's tethered to the presence of the body? then consider mihawk having the strongest conqueror's haki out on the blues, or shanks being able to use observation haki at mihawk's level, practically being able to predict the future--or mihawk, able to counter with shanks's haki-kill technique. food for thought!

ok, once more I realize that my own kindness and friendliness has been taken for implied consent, and as always, the troubles that are brewing now are connected to OCs.

So let me be clear and frank one more time, one last time, because I have NO INTENTION of going through what I went through in 2021.

While I am always immensely happy that my Original Characters are enjoyed and that they can serve as source of inspiration, they are NOT however a template for anyone to base their OCs on.

They are not something that you can take in their entirety, change whatever suits you, and then call it your own.

It doesn't work like that, especially because, and allow me to reiterate this once and for all, OCs are *immensely* personal.

They are an extention of the soul of the person that creates them.

So taking whatever suits your fancy and use it for the "aesthetic" or the "vibes" is immensely disrespectful and, dare I say, rather impertinent, especially when both characters happen to belong to the same fandom.

Now, I am not talking about certain tropes and subjects that are typical of certain genre, of course not.

We are all somehow reinveting something that's already there when we work with OCs and stories.

What I am talking about is taking certain specific idiosyncrasies that make a certain character unique, change them to suit your character, and then being SO IMPERTINENT to just call it your own and parading it around without even having the courtesy to quote the person that has inspired you, taking advantage of the fact that I am just a small creator with a small following.

This is a huge No No for me.

I appreciate that other creators might have a different opinion or perspective when it comes to OCs, and while I do not share entirely in that, I sure as hell respect it.

But allow me to be crystal clear: if this happens to me, like it had in 2021, that's the *easiest* way to lose all respect I might harbour for you, and I seldomly get mad or angry.

I am always accomodating, always supportive, and I think I have proven it aplenty in the past few years.

But this is something that I cannot condone nor agree with.

And it's not just a matter of ethic, in this sense: it's a matter of also hurting me, and literally put my whole creative process into shamble.

It's a matter of having respect of others.

Now, you might say: who cares if they hurt you? they are characters that do not exist, just move on and have thicker skin!

Well, as I said above, for when it concerns myself, my OCs are an extention of my own soul, a way for me to formulate and explain feelings that sometimes I have a hard time let out; a way for me to actually face, fragmentize and analyze my own trauma through them;

and most important of all, they are OFTEN a love letter to both the world I am exploring with them AND my own husband and child, such as in the case of Jacob and Dorothea,for whom, as I said often in the past 5 years, I have poured A LOT from myself and my husband's own story.

You could say that it probably my fault for having bared my feelings so much and poured so much of myself into a character;

And you might be correct, because I have learned my lesson, and ever since Dorothea and Jacob, no other character has been infused with as much of my own being as they were.

but that doesn't mean that it stings any less when I see it unravels in front of my eyes.

I am tired.

random ass thought but i don't like a lot of the fanservice in the bg3 epilogue and I especially have an issue with Karlach seemingly finding a solution to her engine in Avernus. her whole story is about terminal illness and her potential death at the pier is very very sad and emotional but it is a valid choice as it honors her wish to go out on her own terms. The epilogue makes it so that forcing her to go to Avernus becomes the correct choice idk theres just smth about it

Like, they view any scene of him being emotionally vulnerable, affectionate, or even just making an expression outside of just being completely neutral as “mischaracterised”. He’s not some cool, stoic, unwavering badass, he is a traumatised teenager. Don’t cry whenever he dares to give his friend a hug or (god forbid) be SAD about something??? Isn’t like. Part of the point of his development about him allowing himself to break down the repressive walls he built when he shut himself in? And being able to rely on his real friends instead of imaginary versions? And isn’t the game like. Meant to SHOW that he still cares about them despite isolating himself?

It’s really stupid to get mad at a character like that showing emotion or affection personally, especially since he’s not used to expressing it properly after so long. But that’s just me
