Time travel au that digs into what a slap in the face it would be from fate if Shizuma was Itachi and Kisame's son.

Itachi seeing that the peace he spent the majority of his life trying to build has finally come to be. But at the cost of damning (at least half of) the next generation of their clan to the same mistreatment they'd already faced for so many years. Seeing his son face the same sort of scrutiny the Uchiha had, just under a different clan name this time.

Kisame seeing that after everything. Kirigakure is still soaked in lies and deceit. Punishing those who can see clearly enough to call it out.

Them seeing the continuing cycle of scapegoating Kisame hated so much + Itachi was forced to carry in his life.

Seeing the same "This dog is bad! When you strike it it bites!" situation play out again.

Them realizing their lineage was set to suffer through similar pains to them despite it all. And knowing that no matter how well their decendant was dressed up + how beautiful Kirigakure sounded from even his spiteful accounts. The faults they tried so hard to rid the world of were still there. Just hidden better now.

Them looking at this boy, who has been unable to learn anything of his Uchiha heritage due to circumstances, and actively sabotaged from learning anything about the Hoshigaki part. This boy who can't visit a single grave in his family because they're either in forgein lands or have been destroyed on government orders. Half are under a stone because of Konoha and half aren't allowed under one because of Kiri.

And the village wonders why he feels like there's no home for him in this current world, jfc.

Hashirama: [happy] Oh hey! That Uchiha girl's gonna be Hokage soon!

Tobirama: [a look of disgust immediately crosses Tobirama's face]...I'm going back down there.

Hashirama: [slightly worried, but still positive. There shouldn't be any way he can go back.] Lighten up! I'm sure she'll make for a great Hokage!

Tobirama: [is very set on finding an exit]

Hashirama: [sighs in defeat. He turns to Madara] Hey, you're happy about it, right?

Madara: [also trying to find a way back] I need to get back.

Hashirama: [Hashirama is dumbfounded and makes a little dumbfounded noise before speaking.] WHAT DO YOU MEAN??

Madara: [Looks at Hashirama] I need to see if she's truly strong enough. [Continues looking for some sort of way to escape]

Hashirama: [Hashirama stands there silently for a moment before grabbing the two] Maybe not try to find a way to come back from the dead again? C'mon, can't we all just be glad Konohagakure is still going strong?

Madara: [Angrily trying to push Hashirama away] It's going to fall if we leave it with some other weak woman!

Hashirama: [offended scoff on her and all other women's behalf] 

Tobirama: It truly will if that woman is an Uchiha!

Madara: [Turning his attention towards Tobirama] You've been dead for fucking YEARS are you're still on that?

Tobirama: [Responding angrily] Well, you Uchihas never change, so why should I?

Hashirama: [pained and just kinda standing there] We are all dead, can we just stop fighting? 

Tobirama and Madara, together: NO.

[The bickering continues and progressively escalates more and more. Tobirama and Madara are damn ready to fight and Hashirama's fully ready to stop it. Suddenly, a rift opens up. They look at it, shocked and wondering if they caused it. After a few seconds of processing, Madara and Tobirama run towards the rift.]

Hashirama: NO! [Immediately rushes after the two and gets them both in a headlock.] You guys are staying RIGHT HERE!!

[As Madara and Tobirama struggle, Itachi enters the scene. He observes the rift.]

Hashirama: [Clearly struggling to keep the other two down. Still, he smiles at Itachi like nothing's wrong] Oh hey, Itachi! Hey, I'm pretty sure that rift leads out of the afterlife here, and SOME PEOPLE over here might try to go back down to the planet and cause some trouble. You mind keeping watch while I deal with these two?

Itachi: [Glancing up from the rift and towards Hashirama] Sure. 

Hashirama: [Sighs in relief] Ah, thank you!

Itachi: [Looks back down at the rift] Even if someone were to go down, do you think they'd be able to enter back?

Hashirama: [he does not question Itachi's inquiry] I mean, in one way or another, probably. Pretty sure that'd go into the Shinigami's business, too.

Itachi: [Continues looking down at the rift. Itachi mutters quietly to himself] So maybe if i….

Hashirama: [immediately realizing Itachi's train of thought, but being absolutely helpless keeping Tobirama and Madara put] Itachi…no…

Itachi: [Looks up at Hashirama] Forgive me, but I've been wanting to say hi to my niece since the day she was born. [Itachi jumps in]

Hashirama: NO!!! [sighs in defeat] Well, at least it's just Itachi… he wouldn't go out of his way to cause trouble, and he'll probably try to get back after he's done. As long as nobody else goes in, it should be fine.

[Hashirama hears yelling from behind him.]

Minato: KUSHINA NO!!

Kushina: [running towards the rift with nothing but sheer determination in her eyes] I NEED TO SEE MY GRANDBABIES!!!!!! [She immediately jumps into the rift]

Minato: [Puts his hands on his head in a very stressed manner and puts his head to a wall]

[Dread fills Hashirama as he watches helplessly.]

Obito: [Runs toward and jumps into the rift] I've got an old man to harass [peace out sign]

Rin: [Chasing after Obito] I'LL GET HIM, DON'T WORRY! [Follows him out]

Deidara: THEY WON'T FORGET IT THIS TIME!! [Jumps in the rift]

Danzo: [Walks over to the rift, takes a single look at Hashirama, and then silently walks in.]

I am not emotionally well about Itachi, Sasuke, or Tobirama!

But boy oh boy is it kind of funny to me the fuck ass elders got executed for their crimes at the 200k mark. It's like an accidental reward to myself.

I love a character raised to be a weapon as much as the next guy. But what really gets me is a character raised to be a shield. Who can’t fathom being needed—or even being wanted— beyond keeping others safe. Who believe they are alive only to insure someone doesn’t die. no matter the cost. Characters who self-sacrifice not because they think they deserve it, but because no one else does deserve it, and it’s their job to protect.

Characters who’ve been told that’s why your important. Your worth something because this other person/ thing is important, and you are here solely to keep them safe.

Bonus points if it’s not a legitimate job they’ve been given. Maybe at one point it was, but now that they are free from it, they haven’t given up that mentality. No one is forcing or asking them to do this, but they need to. They need to in order to be deserving.
