Tenma siblings headcanons from the top of my head

--

I'm a FIRMM believer that Tenma siblings are very physically affectionate (i.e. hugs, forehead kisses, cheek kisses, high fives, shoulder bumping, cuddling, hair ruffling, etc)

This takes Toya fully by surprise when they do it to him outright, without any room for denial.

Tsukasa was eating breakfast with Saki and Toya before realizing he was going to be late for a meet-up with Wondershow.

He has this thing, where he instinctively kisses Saki on the forehead before he heads off, so he does. But, in his unfiltered older brother instinct and disarray, he kisses Toya on the forehead too. And just. Leaves.

Toya kinda blue screens before snapping back and being like "what."

Saki doesn't even bat an eye lmao she just kinda looks at him like he's a little weird.

Toya: (literally saw Tsukasa kiss Saki's forehead first before beelining to him without any hesitation) "I think... he mistook me for you"

Saki: "Toya you dumb fuck (/affectionate) you've been one of us since you stepped foot in our house"

Tenma siblings cuddle a lot, usually on the couch during movies. Tsukasa in the middle, Saki to his right, and Toya to his left. They aren't aware of the set position but whenever they switch, all of them all at once just think "something is not right rn"

While cuddling, Tsukasa often uses his right hand (which Saki is leaning on) to either scroll his phone, read, or so show work (costume designing, script writing, ideas, etc). He always leans his head on Saki's. He uses his left hand to run through Toya's hair.

Toya starts referring to Saki and Tsukasa as his siblings and family outside sometimes.

Saki and Tsukasa listens to pop music sometimes. Not their main music taste, but enough for it to be significant.

This culminates to a very confusing moment for VBS, who've met Toya's biological, douche, emotionally constipated classical music family, when they hear Toya say "Oh, yeah I know Taylor Swift. My family listens to her sometimes."

Tsukasa loves baking and cooking. It's a stress reliever thing for him. This is a huge bonus for his siblings (mainly Saki. Toya's not a huge sweets person) because there's always sweets in the pantries.

Toya never sneaks into the kitchen alone, he wouldn't dare. Plus, again, not a huge sweets person. Saki, however, is a horrible influence. They often have 2am gossip, accompanied by brownies and vanilla ice cream.

Toya and Saki can't cook for their life. (I know canonically, they're okay-ish, but hear me out.)

Toya, raised as a rich kid for most his life, has never cut a single raw ingredient in his life until his late teen years.

Saki's been hospitalized for the majority of her life.

Tsukasa's the only Tenma sibling with cooking and baking skills (considering he had to fend for himself for a while)

While they were baking together, Toya and Saki managed to get the batter on the ceiling AND explode the microwave because the batter had too much eggshells in it when they put it in. Tsukasa had to call Rui over to fix it.

Tsukasa: "I can't pay you for now, Rui I'm so sorry-"

Rui: "Don't worry about it, Tsukasa"

Tsukasa: "I'll repay you in sweets when we're done?"

Rui: "...preferably not ceiling ones but yeah I'd like that"

Speaking of,

Ruikasa starts dating and Tsukasa swears that Rui had nothing to worry about when it comes to his family. They're welcoming! They're open! They'll love him.

Rui decided to not tell him about the glares coming from a certain pinkish blonde and split haired boy when they announced the news. (At least the parents were sweet)

Toya and Saki actually has no real gripes against Rui. They're protective, sure, they will eventually corner Rui and interrogate him, but Saki just thinks it's funny and Toya is just Toya. Rui's paranoid lmao

Akito punching Toya in the main story left a bruise (as seen in the official animation) which Tsukasa and Saki got really concerned about during their arcade hangout (Toya's first 3* side story).

Tsukasa figured out that Akito was the one who did it, and ranted to Saki about it. But he retracts it when the duo made up.

Saki isn't letting that shit go, oh no. This GINGER punched her brother?? Then, she started hearing about how Akito likes messing with Tsukasa, even insulting him to his face sometimes.

So she has a personal beef with Akito. Who didn't even know she existed.

When Akito first step foot into the Tenma household, he was dreading the presence of Tsukasa, but to his shock and horror, Tsukasa is actually more tame at home.

His biggest worry should've been the girl with pigtails, who, upon seeing him, got up from her chair and heads straight to her room. not breaking eye contact.

It takes a while, but Saki and Akito gains an unlikely alliance.

It's one of the main reasons why he asks you actually. Not that he doesn't like it, he just hates when you wake up and see him all flustered-

Much to his surprise, you get pretty flustered when he asks, dodging his question with a small laugh. Well, now he needs to know-

His investigation always fails...Until the day you let him hang out at your house. He discovers it rather quickly

"Hey, babe? Do you have-" He walked into your room, finding you clinging onto a plushie like a lifeline. "...Oh."

He grins, stepping closer and looking at the plushie in your hands. He takes a picture to tease you about it, but a part of him can't stop thinking about how cute you look <3

Toya:

Toya might get flustered by you clinging onto him, but he finds that it's really nice actually...You always make him feel so warm

He asks you out of pure curiosity, not wanting you to stop persay, more wanting to know just in case he's ever not there for you to cling onto

You end up dodging his question, and he pesters you about it before huffing. Fine then, he'll find out! A future star can solve mysteries on his own!

He figures it out when you invite him to hang out, and he's ecstatic

"My favorite co-star! Are you?-" He cut himself off when he saw you clinging onto a plushie, and his eyes widened before sparkling at the sight. "Aha!"

He keeps quiet, tip-toeing up to your side to see the plushie you were clinging onto. He grins and pats your head and its head, already planning to show you his own plushies <3

Rui:

Rui absolutely melts whenever you cling onto him in your sleep. He tries to hide it, but the wide grin on his face shows it quite obviously.

He asks you about it one day to tease you, that same amused grin on his face as he asked you

we need to talk about the shinonomes more bc they are so fascinatingly dysfunctional, yet aside from ena's relationship with her dad none of it is really addressed in the story? like when mafuyu stays at their house, they're used as an example of a "good" family in contrast with mafuyu's. now granted 1) they're being compared to mafuyu's mom which would make anyone look good and 2) their dad doesn't appear in the event. but man i was really waiting for mafuyu to find out that ena's dad sucks and for them to connect over that. mafuyu specifically thinks their mother seems warm and loving, but if that's the case why did we never see her try to help her kids when they were going through it? and then there's akito. we have no idea how he feels about his parents or how they've affected him. considering how similar his and ena's personalities are, it would totally make sense that they were impacted similarly by their home environment. but also akito's never home at all? like we haven't even seen what his room looks like. and ena by contrast is always in her room. it seems like this is a family that cares about each other deeply but has become fractured and disconnected, not knowing how to communicate.

edit: wait wait wait i forgot to even talk about the dad and how he clearly just wanted to protect his sensitive daughter from suffering as an artist (in a way he likely did himself) but thanks to his terrible communication skills he ended up being the cause of her suffering. sort of a "the world will hurt you so i must hurt you first" situation, whether or not that was his real intent. they're all so interesting.

i want to talk about an.

i want to talk about an in “kick it up a notch!” specifically, and correct a slight misconception i’m starting to see pop up about her character development and how it relates to the rest of VBS but mostly akito.

an is alone in her fear of being left behind and all her other feelings of inadequacy and jealousy in regards to kohane’s astounding growth as a singer. akito is not going through the same thing she is. for one, that’s not his partner. he’s not the one who plucked kohane out of a crowd and he’s not the one who designated himself as her mentor and expected to always be the teacher and never the student.

that was all an.

that’s why this is hitting her so hard. she assumed that she was the natural talent of the vivids - and i’ll get to why that is in a second; bear with me. and no, akito does not feel this way about toya. at least not anymore.

akito’s able to pick up on what’s going on with an so, so easily because he’s extremely observant and emotionally intelligent for his age. and because yeah, he’s been through his fair share of struggling with abandonment issues and feelings of inadequacy.

key words: been through.

akito isn’t... over his problems by any means, but he’s already felt what an feels now. all the way back in middle school, when he and toya were just BAD DOGS. hell, he felt it during that soccer game that made him quit the sport altogether. and just... in general, with the way the shinonome household is, he’s well-versed in feeling untalented, and like he’s not special, and like he will never accomplish anything in his insignificant life.

he’s gone through this shit before. he’s confronted those nasty, traitorous feelings of jealousy and the fear and the despair, and he worked through them with toya. and they came out on the other side stronger and closer than ever.

i’ll get into why in just a second again, just keep bearing with me, but i need to stress that an has never been seriously challenged before. that’s why this is happening the way it is. that’s why she has no idea what these feelings are or how to deal with them. it will probably be easiest for her to lean on akito as she works through this because he understands best the very specific circumstances of her emotional turmoil:

“i picked some guy off the street and made them my partner and it turns out they’re better at singing than me.”

but akito is old friends with negativity and he knows how to channel it into positive energy, into something that will push him forward and push him to prove everyone wrong. and you know what? he’s finally getting somewhere.

“find a way out” was literally about him starting to realize that he’s not... just endlessly chasing after the rest of vbs anymore. he’s managed to close that distance he’s felt for the past... 325734254889 events.

performing against the musician that bullied him all those years ago let him see his improvement objectively. he’s better than he was in middle school, and he’s better than the guy who humiliated him and that guy improved too! that’s just how much akito has grown. he’s surpassed a lot of his limits, barriers that he once thought were impossible for him to overcome. he’s flying high above many, many people’s heads now. that is what akito started to realize that night. (and i say “started” since he kind of freaks out afterwards - because he’s not used to thinking of himself like that. he’s not used to being proud of himself. which breaks my heart but that’s getting off topic.)

the point is. akito is very, very close to overcoming this idea that he will always be the worst at everything he loves. or he’s hell of a lot closer to it than an is. and even if he’s not, he knows how to cope with those feelings and fight against them.

an doesn’t.

why? because like i said, she’s never been challenged. everything has almost always just been handed to her. i don’t mean that like she’s spoiled or something; i just mean... everyone has always looked at her and seen Shiraishi Ken’s daughter first and foremost.

“you want to learn to sing? hah! of course you do! you’re ken's daughter!”

“look at you go! of course you’re a natural at this! you’re ken's daughter!”

“you want to surpass RAD WEEKEND? well, if anyone’s got the abilities to do it, of course it’ll be ken’s daughter!”

this is the dialogue an has grown up hearing. just an endless mantra of: “you’re naturally talented / you’ll be fine / go and do your own thing / you don’t need any extra help / you don’t need any push or shove.”

“you’re ken’s daughter!”

think of it this way: what almost always happens to “gifted kids” in school? they start off miles ahead of their peers. they are separated from those peers. they are not given the same resources their peers are given because they don’t need them. inevitably, those children once praised for being so so so much smarter, so much more talented and special, fall behind as their peers begin to catch up. they weren’t given the tools they needed to continue growing, so they stagnate.

that’s close to what’s happening here with an. the rest of vbs has begun to grow beyond what she was able to achieve innately, and that scares her so fucking much. especially when it comes to kohane because there’s no way around it: an expected to always be better than her. not in a nasty, self-centered way, of course; that’s not the kind of person she is. this was just her subconscious expectation because that was how she was taught to think about herself. but now reality’s catching up to her, and she lacks the tools she needs to keep moving forward with everyone else.

she doesn’t need breathing exercises or extra warm-ups or anything like that. what she lacks is an emotional tool set. she doesn’t know how to cope with feeling inadequate and worthless and good lord it took her like an entire event to learn what jealousy is.

an is alone in her feelings right now. she can lean on her teammates - she can lean on akito especially. but she’s the only one that can free herself from these chains rusted over with fear. no one’s going to save her. no one can save her. as painful as it is, this is the push she needs. if she never learns to process and deal with these feelings, she’ll never be able to keep up with the people she loves.

but don’t take these somber words the wrong way. this is project sekai, after all! this is a game about love and friendship and growing up, and accepting your flaws and shortcomings and pushing yourself to be the best you can be - to always strive for a bright future.

an will be okay. vbs will be okay. it’ll sting for a bit, sure, but they’ll make it through.

Fruits Basket Queer Headcanons

The more I watch and read Fruits Basket, the more I get the sense that no one is straight here. Well... almost no one. So, in honor of pride month, here are my queer headcanons for the cast of Fruits Basket!

(Disclaimer that these are my own personal headcanons, obviously nothing official, etc... I try to draw on evidence from the text, but I'll admit I'm occasionally going purely off vibe. Also, I'm bi and genderfluid, so that's the lens I'm bringing to this. I'd love to hear your headcanons, especially if they differ from mine! Enjoy!)

Genderfluid and/or genderqueer: Ayame and Ritsu

I (probably somewhat controversially) think a lot of the gender non-conformity among Fruits Basket characters is just that: gender non-conformity. Momiji is one example; he dresses in girls' clothing (though not "like a girl") until his growth spurt, but it seems important to him to be seen as a man from at least that point forward.

Ritsu is someone whose gender identity and/or nonconformity really should've been explored more in the manga - as written, it feels like Ritsu's exploration of gender was viewed as something he'd grow out of, rather than a search for understanding himself. He doesn't really seem to mind being identified as either male or female, though he obviously feels a lot of shame about his comfort with wearing women's clothes (though no one around him when we meet him really seems to mind, which is nice-- I also appreciate that Ritsu was shown to have friends who adore him outside of the Sohmas). Anyway, the fact that he seems okay with being referred to as both a man and a woman is the entire basis for this headcanon.

Ritsu also idolizes Ayame, and I think part of this stems from Ayame's own security in his non-traditional gender presentation. We don't really get a lot of Ayame's thoughts on gender, despite his line of work, but he strikes me as the sort of person who would enjoy playing with his own gender presentation and would be more than open to exploring his gender identity (and probably has!). I think Ayame would lean more toward having an expansive view of masculinity rather than dressing more feminine when he feels more feminine, but I also think he would embrace the different ways people might perceive his gender.

Transgender Woman: Akito Sohma

This I think is quite clear in canon. Akito was assigned male at birth, then transitioned to female.

What makes it hard for some people to see Akito as trans is that the reason she was assigned male at birth was not the typical reason people are assigned male at birth in our world (it was her mother's demand, rather than a guess based on the shape of her genitals), but I don't think that makes her any less trans.

Under the Ace and/or Aro Umbrellas

This umbrella is a little tricky for several of these characters, because they've been forbidden from dating, or had very controlling parents, or thought they'd only hurt anyone they loved, so they haven't necessarily had time to figure out whether they've just repressed that part of themselves or they just don't experience attraction at all/without a strong emotional connection first. (Not everyone needs time to figure that out, though!) But anyway, here's who I think would eventually find themselves under at least one of these umbrellas!

Asexual/Aromantic: Kazuma

I love the tidbit that Kazuma tried dating women, but talked so much about Kyo that he never got a second date. I like the interpretation of him as a gay man, but to me, he reads as asexual/aromantic. Dating just doesn't even seem to be on his radar!

Demisexual/Demiromantic: Kyo, Shigure, Machi

A lot of the fandom sees Kyo as demi, and I'm totally here for that interpretation of him. He generally seems annoyed by or frightened of girls who aren't Tohru (frightened either when there's a risk of transforming, or when Kagura is involved). Also, it's CUTE that Kyo takes after his dad (Kazuma) in this way.

At first blush, it seems very unlikely Shigure is under the ace umbrella, but I couldn't stop thinking about his brief relationship with Mayu. He's the one who suggested they date, yet he seemed completely disinterested in her. He did sleep with Ren, but that was only for revenge and because he imagined Akito would look like her if she'd been allowed to grow up as a woman. I genuinely believe all his "high school girls" ickiness was an act, much like most of his personality.

It doesn't seem like Machi can totally tell if/when she likes something (or someone!). This makes me wonder if she's just never had feelings for anyone before Yuki.

Demiromantic: Rin, Hiro

Rin seems open to sexual relations with people other than Haru, but I genuinely can't see her having romantic feelings for anyone other than him. I see Hiro similarly with respect to Kisa. I think, if they ever split, it would take an extremely long time for him to even be open to falling for someone else.

Under the Bi/Pan+ Umbrella

So, I'm not making a distinction between these two (and other orientations that fall under the same umbrella, like poly- or omnisexual) because that seems like a very personal, internal conversation. I know some people make a distinction between the way bi and pan people experience attraction, but some don't, and that feels too prescriptivist for my purposes here. So, these are characters who I think experience attraction to multiple genders!

Tohru obviously falls for Kyo, but she also thinks Akito is cute, she thinks Rin is "shapely" and "beautiful" (her words!), and she goes along with it when Saki talks about them getting married.

Yuki ends up with Machi (and I love them together!) but I think Kyo was his first crush. His arc is also very relatable for a lot of queer folks (myself included!). And he's a disaster. Long live bisexual disaster Yuki Sohma!

Shigure is tricky, because the flirtation between him and Ayame could just be a joke, but I personally think it's a joke that arose out of some fun nights spent together...

Akito obviously likes men, but she also flirts with Tohru when they first meet.

Saki talks about marrying both Tohru and Kazuma. She's probably joking about Kazuma, but she's generally a very literal person, so I don't think she's joking about Tohru. She also marries a foreigner canonically, and that foreigner is probably a man.

Momiji talks about finding an amazing sweetheart-- not an amazing wife or girlfriend!!-- one day. I think he was being very intentional in not specifying his future partner's gender.

Hatori is the one I feel least sure of, but my headcanon is that he gets so annoyed and embarrassed by Shigure and Ayame because he doesn't want anyone to know he was totally part of at least a few of those trysts...

Mutsuki and Hajime are definitely together, right? And it seems like the fandom mostly sees Mutsuki as bi, which... yeah, that tracks.

Hatsuharu's first love was Yuki, and his last love was Rin.

Gay and Lesbian

Hiroshi has always struck me as gay. I can't really explain it. I usually have absolutely awful gaydar, so it's odd that he gives me such clear gay vibes. I wrote him as gay in my longfic, Bloom Within Us, and I'll probably always write him as gay.

President Takei obviously has a crush on Yuki. We don't really see him show interest in anyone else (partially because he's such a minor character). He also seems to still be a bachelor in Another, which could be because he can't legally marry yet...

My headcanon that Kunimitsu is gay kind of popped up as I was writing Bloom Within Us. There's no particular reason, and he doesn't give me strong gay vibes or anything.

Hajime and Mutsuki are definitely a couple! (Right?!) And it seems like most of the fandom sees Hajime as gay which... yeah, I can get behind that.

Akimoto (Arisa's senpai from her gang) is another character who gives me such strong vibes that I thought it was canon that she was a lesbian. Whoops. Anyway, I headcanon that Akimoto is gay, and referenced that in one of my oneshots.

Controversial omission: Arisa Uotani. She says she likes Kureno because he reminds her of Tohru, but she doesn't like Tohru? Yes, she gives me major queer vibes but this to me points to her being straight. Also, based on the way she reacts to her friends developing crushes or falling in love (and the way they react to her falling in love), I don't think there's anything between her and Saki or her and Tohru (as much as I love fics that pair her with Saki!). I also think not every relationship with lots of physical affection and strong feelings of love has to be romantic.

middle school keiji yapping session because People like my ugly son!!!!

So. Middle school keiji was very very different than current kei. I had already mentioned before that he had tried to appear extra feminine to make himself feel better but. that just made things worse

Im gonna tall a bit more abt Keiji's and Himeko's relationship here cuz I LOVE THEM!!!!

But for context: middle school keiji was. how do I say this. it's not that he was "disliked"...cuz he wasn't. He was neutral with mostly everyone, he liked to help people out..he really was a great kid. but when his dysphoria got worse. ough. He lost most of his motivation to do basically anything.

So I'm sure yall know of his bedrotting habits...well this is where it started. He couldnt bring himself to do anything so many days and school just exhausted him. His school wasn't an all-girls, but he was already deep into thay circle where most of the people he surrounded himself with were. approximately 7th grade. He started to sh during this time. He hated his body he hated it so much he wanted to destroy it

One day he had a panic attack in the middle of the day in school. He ran to the bathroom and could barely breath over how much he choking on his own tears. That's when a girl came in. Her name? Himeko Kobayashi. She was in his class and noticed how he ran off. She was able to lure him out and calm him down eventually. About a month or two later, they started to date. co-dependent yuri!!!

they dated for a while. Idk how to describe keiji's personality at this time but she did make him a looot better. He relied on her a lot which probably wasn't healthy but she really loved keiji so she didn't really mind, cuz she also wanted to help. She didn't know about the whole gender dysphoria thing though 1. because keiji thought she'd hate him and 2. keiji didn't even realize what it meant. He just thought he was weird and. yeah.he knew what being trans meant but he didn't think that he was.

the best I can describe him is like those kids who say "my dick is bigger than yours" but doesn't laugh crazy about just kinda looks at you like 😼. kinda smug, kinda. urgh. a mixture of akito and mizuki if you. get it

He started to try out new stuff, and one thing he did was wearing his brother's clothes. His brother was already headed off to college, and wasn't home a lot of the time, unless it was break. Keiji would go into his room and wear his clothes and just. stare. most of the time he "hated" it because he thought that type of behaviors was weird and gross and he just. hurt himself. afterwards.

it was winter break. One day, Himeko came over. It was just gonna be keiji for the weekend because his mom was out for work. They watched movies, ate snacks, all that. Keiji...wasn't feeling great that day. He was stressed the entire time and as much as he loved himeko..he wanted her to leave so he could get back to well. yeah.

Himeko is a rather emotionally intelligent person. She notices things many others don't, so when keiji was off that day, she realized. So when he asked to go to his room for a moment, she knew something was wrong, and opened the door. A sight she didn't expect to see was keiji on the ground with a box cutter, his arms and thighs bleeding. She ran to him, taking it out of his hand. and that was the moment he broke. He just started wailing, grabbing at her back as she hugged him, tears he'd been pushing back all just coming out at the same time. he started wailing apologies to her, to which she said he had nothing to be sorry for.

Suddenly, he started wailing about his body. How he hated it and hated how he looked and felt and was a girl. He started spilling out how he would look in the mirror each time he changed his clothes and he just feel so angry and disgusted and so wrong and how he couldn't stand anything about himself. He told her it was okay for her to leave now, since he thought she'd find him gross and weird and crazy. But. she didn't. instead, she slowly caressed his head, rubbing his shoulders, and softly spoke.

"Do you want to be a boy?"

It hadn't really hit him before that, he just didn't want to be a girl. But. he realized. shit. she's. she's onto something. Keiji slowly stopped crying, looking to her with big eyes. Himeko took that as a yes. She smiled and said if it was okay for her to start referring to him as one, and using masc pronouns for him. He..really liked that idea. So he said sure.

The rest of the night was. really nice actually. Himeko cleaned him up, getting him good bandages and antiseptic. She offered to cut his hair, which he happily took the offer for. She plopped him into a hoodie and they went down to the 24hr convenience store below his apartment. It was already 12/1 am, so it was dark. Shr grabbed some proper scissors, and keiji asked if it was okay for her to dye his hair too. she said ofc, and when she asked what color, he said green, since that was the natural color of his mom and brother's hair (unlike him who had naturally brown)

They went back and put on some music, and she got to hair-cutting. After that, keiji had called his brother, asking if it was okay for him to wear his clothes sometimes. He easily said yes and..yeah :3

Things were much much better. He still lost motivation and confined himself to his room occasionally but. He was better nonetheless. He came out to his mom and brother, who both happily accepted him. they didn't have the money for treatment but himeko did get him a reeaally good binder and some tape. They were even able to make it so that keiji could wear the male uniform in school. You could see his current personal started to sprout here, he was very active, very whimsical very silly very. yeah. he was great. and. he loved it!!!

Himeko and keiji continued to date up until the end of the first year of hs. They were the most loveliest love birds yould ever seen. first year of hs...which was also when he moved and...a certain event happened...but I'm not getting into that bc this a middle school keiji yapping session!!!! not hs!!!! yall don't get that from till u ask :3

VBS plushie hcs why not

Kohane occasionally sleeps with plushies. She likes big cute ones that she can cuddle with the most! But she also tends to put them away elsewhere because she’s worried they might get worn down / dirty, so she doesn’t sleep with them all the time, just when shes having a hard time falling asleep usually.

She prefers animals and likes almost any type of animal as long as it’s cute. She has a big fluffy sheep, a snake or two (one of which is count Pearl adjacent), a few plushies she bought from gift shops at PXL, and a cute bird that was a gift from An.

An definitely sleeps with plushies since she canonically has one on her bed. I think she’d be slightly embarrassed by it but she’s 100% let it slip several times.

She owns several different types of hamster plushies (a lot of them are gifts!) in all sorts of sizes. She’s first in line to receive any hamster adjacent plushies that Toya wins at arcades, since he knows she absolutely adores them. (He might or might not go out of his way to find them, but she doesn’t need to know that.)

She also owns a plushie of Kohane and a few other miscellaneous ones. She loves her hamsters and basically all of her gifted plushies, but her favorite is a cute black cat that was given to her by Nagi.

Akito doesn’t sleep with plushies because he’s. Akito. He probably views it as being embarrassing and like he doesn’t NEED plushies he can sleep fine on his own without cuddly animals thank you very much. + he’d rather be caught dead than have Ena or anyone else in his family see that he has plushies on his bed.

But also he does keep every plushie he’s ever gotten from Toya (that wasn’t given to Ena). He doesn’t sleep with them. He makes up an excuse for why he keeps them instead of throwing them out every time he’s asked. (Everyone knows why he keeps them.)

Toya doesn’t really sleep with plushies, but he might have one or two that he likes. He would like to keep some of the few other ones he likes around the room on shelves and stuff, but he’s worried about what his dad would think, so he has them stored somewhere else for now.

He ends up with a lot of plushies from the arcade, and his own taste is pretty selective (especially since he gets so many), so he doesn’t usually care for a lot of them, but he loves giving them to other people that he knows will be happy to receive them. Usually Saki, Akito (to give to Ena usually, but Akito keeps some for himself as well), An or Kohane. It makes him happy to see his friend enjoy them!

Also a few misc ones that aren’t VBS related:

All of L/N (including Shiho) have a few matching plushies, and sometimes Saki gives them some of the many plushies Toya has given her! She’s especially on the lookout for space themed ones. Shiho also has a few bunnies but would never let anybody see them. (Saki sometimes asks Toya if he has any bunny plushies so she can give them to her)

Haruka owns tons of penguins (pretty sure this is canon) and An and Haruka have started a competition where they just gift eachother penguins and hamsters respectively and try to one up eachother, Shizuku has a white songbird (kinda looks like Kohane’s but in a different color! And maybe slightly smaller?) and Minori has a squirrel and a ladybug! (+ probably more!!! She might also get some from Kohane sometimes.)

Nene has at least one or two plushies but is incredibly embarrassed and would never admit it ever. Idk what specifically they would be she’s giving dragon plushie or like franchise related plushies but idk. She wouldn’t get characters just like fantasy creature type plushies that she could pass as NOT being from a specific game or franchise.

Emu has a GIGANTIC hoard of plushies. Enough to make an entire throne out of them. Her family is super rich so of course she has a bajillion plushies. Sometimes she sees kids staring at plushies in shops and she buys them for them and gives it to them because everyone deserves the joy of having a plushie!!!

Mizuki doesn’t have many but she definitely has one or two!

Little Akito

⋆ I actually haven’t written much for little Akito? Which I think is crazy cuz he’s just a little guy. I think he regresses to like 4-6! So not really a baby, but definitely in the toddler age range! He’s old enough to like talk a bit and be somewhat coordinated, while still tiny enough he gets overwhelmed and can’t communicate things great! Also chaotic age >:3 But I’ll get into that in a bit hehe

⋆ Akito overworks himself, like a lot. He always insists that he has to be the best, even if literally no one is asking that of him. There’s a lot of times where he pushes himself too hard practicing. Not to mention schoolwork is an additional stress factor, he’s not the best at it… He just gets so stressed out! He gets overwhelmed and it’s a lot easier to just give his brain a break and give in to the urge to be a little baby. He deserves it

⋆ Akito is very fussy! Since he usually regresses from feeling overwhelmed, he gets easily overwhelmed when he’s feeling small! No loud or sudden noises, he needs the right textures, his caregiver has to tell him what they’re doing as they do it. Otherwise it’ll lead to a meltdown! If he has a meltdown his caregiver should just let him cry it out. His household didn’t exactly encourage expressing your emotions, so he really needs this outlet to express them when he’s regressed

⋆ Don’t let the baby do anything! Akito already overworks himself, so when he’s feeling small that’s his time to stop working, even is he claims otherwise. At first he’ll try to do things! He’ll try to dish up his own snacks, set up shows or games. But as he gets deeper into headspace he’ll give in more, by the end of the night he can’t even hold his own bottle. So his caregiver can happily hold it for him, letting the little one just rest and accept being fawned over!

⋆ Akito can be a bit of a brat hehe. Once he gets over his initial angst of ‘I need to be productive’ he’d very demanding! He’ll point to anything and everything he wants, refusing to move. He also wants to be held! But he’s a hypocrite because while he’s cuddling his caregiver sometimes he’ll just sit up and lean away to play with something. He’s allowed to stop the contact, but if his caregiver sets him down, prepare for screaming

⋆ Akito can’t talk that great, but he does know a few select words! His favorite being “No”, he loved just chanting that. He also knows “Bad” and words that aren’t really words? Things like “Yay” and “Yuck”. You might be saying, hey that’s a pretty limited vocabulary, how does he communicate? He screams. If he wants something, if he’s uncomfortable, sometimes even when he’s happy. He’ll just start screaming. Best solution is to hold a pacifier in his mouth until he settles down to start sucking on it, truly a mute button

⋆ I think Akito loves drawing! Some of his favorite memories from his childhood are drawing, whether it’s with Ena or he was drawing after just hearing about it all the time. He was never pressured into it like Ena sometimes was, so he has good feelings around the activity! He’s not a fan of coloring, but if he is coloring for whatever reason he’ll color outside of the lines! For example he’ll give random creatures wings or a unicorn horn, or draw toys on the ground for them to play with!

⋆ Soccer! I always love the fact that Akito played soccer when he was younger, and he was pretty devoted to it too! Things happened and he stopped, but I think when he regresses he’d like to play again! He loved running around in the backyard and kicking around a ball! Sometimes he falls and he’ll scratch his knee or something… But he’s a real champ! Give him a cool bandaid and he’s ready to go! A healing kiss helps a lot too of course!

When he puts a bow tie that matches his cream suit, he thinks that it's not necessary at all. If he really loves you, then why he needs to put all this effort into this day? “Why did you eat it?” Hisako asks innocently, munching on the fruit. “Did it taste good, Uncle Rinnie?”

“Yeah,” Akito answered early, looking down at the small girl. “Dad wanted to keep the ring all to himself and not share.”

Hisako gasps, “gotta share, Uncle Rinnie! Is impotent!”

“Important, Sako,” Rin groans before turning to his son, “Akito, do not encourage Uncle Atsumu- Osamu is the one we like.”

“I dunno,” he sings, and Hisako blinks wide eyes in intrigue. “Uncle Atsumu has a point- you literally ate an entire engagement ring.” He looks over rintaro to look at Atsumu, “do you know how they finally got it out?”

You know… people seriously underutilize how much Toya rags on Akito. The fandom never acknowledges it because Akito is the mean one and Toya is the nice one but in all the stories and interactions they’ve ever had (bc I’ve read all of them) Akito has not said anything even slightly rude to Toya, and Toya is consistently like—

Which is much more peak dynamic if you ask me.

I like to imagine the first time he made a comment like that and Akito stared at him for several seconds like (I didn’t know he was capable of jokes…) and Toya was like (oh shit I messed up he’s gonna get mad at me maybe I should apologize..) and then Akito just laughs about it and that is the beginning of the bromance

Both of them put on a certain amount of facade when interacting with most people, like most people do. For Akito, that’s his ‘tough guy’ standoffish and combative persona, and for Toya it’s his stiff, formal politeness. So naturally, it would follow that with the person they feel most comfortable around, this vanishes. During the first wedding event, when Akito met Rui he immediately put up a front and decided to dislike him. But the second Toya asked him, he caved and agreed to help. If you looked in his brain while he’s talking to toya at any one moment it would just be like

Akito’s vulnerability is letting himself be sweet and sentimental. It’s the genuine smile he only wears when he’s looking at toya or at his sister. It’s ruffling his hair after doing well in an event and complimenting him the way he only does for his teammates. And for Toya, it’s being able to joke around and mess with his best friend without worrying about getting in trouble. Their affection for each other is mimicking the parts of the other’s personality that they find most endearing and I think that’s beautiful

Another example of this fandom attitude that I’ve noticed is stuff like this meme: (no hate to the creator obv.)

Let’s be fr… we know what Akito is like, right? This is the guy who beat a band that bullied him in middle school in a singing battle and then immediately berated himself for daring to be even a little bit proud about it. This is the guy who heard that he wasn’t the most committed to soccer in the entire world and decided to quit. Do you think his thought process would be so simple as to just be happy after kissing the love of his life? AbsoLUTELY not. This guy is running out of the room IMMEDIATELY to go white-knuckle the bathroom sink. He is going to stare at his reflection breathing heavily and trying to wipe the blush off his face before falling heavily against the door behind him and sinking slowly to the tile to bury his face in his knees. Akito is the least mentally stable man I’ve ever met. Toya, on the other hand. With how much he admires Akito, and with how much he wears his heart on his sleeve without even realizing what he’s feeling himself, the only thoughts I can imagine going through his mind are ‘:D’ Toya would not hide any of his emotions from Akito for a second, I doubt he even knows how. The only thing Toya is doing is realizing, ‘oh, I’m in love with him.’ And then saying, ‘Akito, I’m in love with you.’

To close this out I’m going to send you all to one of my favorite takes on their dynamic in this post. This is especially true after reading Toya’s side story in his 3star from kick it up a notch, which I highly recommend all akitoya fans go read ❤️❤️❤️

I will literally always go to bat for tsukasa’s fragment sekai card story & anyone who thinks it should have been flashy and focused on shows misunderstands him as a character on a very basic level

Why This Fucking Rules Actually:

- echoing tsukasa’s first character arc (focused on himself & what he stands to gain from wxs and emu/nene/rui -> growing to care about them as his friends & being willing to give up the commercial chance/lose the show contest for the WMS show). It’s the selfish & selfless aspects of his character we see over and over again. Tsukasa *is* egotistical and selfish. Sorry! I’m right. A lot of what he does is self serving & he tends to focus on himself. He’s just also capable of being very selfless. Which in turn benefits him. & This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

He loves & desires attention and fame. He wants to use that attention and fame to make other people happy. He wants it to be *him* (& wxs) making other people happy because it comes with attention and fame. He wants to put on good shows because it gives him what he wants and he enjoys it. He’s responsible and helpful and kind to others because that is what his idea of a star is, and because he likes being viewed that way and the gratification that comes from it. He compromises and gives up what he wants and does things for others because that’s what a star would do, so that is what he will do. He is selfless because he is selfish. He is selfish so that he can be selfless. He is a fascinating critter & a paradox of a man.

That being said, the one person he consistently values over all else, above shows & fame, has always been Saki. Tsukasa “the grind never stops” “tried to go to an acting gig with food poisoning when he couldn’t make it out the door without collapsing” Tenma skips practice when she’s sick. Rui (+ nene iirc) is shocked that he’s actually a really good older brother (twilight musical parade). He wants her to be happy more than anything. Saki is the most important person in his life. She’s his number one fan & centric to his first step towards improving at acting (torpe event) for a reason. He would not be who he is, where he is, or have his current goal & motivations without her.

Before he wanted to be a star he wanted to be a good big brother, & being a good big brother is so important to him that it has essentially been baked into what his idea of a star *is*. It has quite literally shaped his entire personality. It’s natural enough to him that even as someone who loves to be praised he will go “? That’s just normal though I’m not doing much” when Saki or Toya comment on it (his SOAD 2*, Akito’s initial 3*, Toya’s doll festival 4*, etc).

Tsukasa’s fragment sekai is based on a book he read with Saki when they were kids. It’s about a brother doing The Most to make his sister happy. He goes into the situation thinking about acting by trying to figure out the weird expression on Hiro’s face, & finds out it’s an expression near tears that is only weird because Hiro never shows it to his little sister. Tsukasa spends his time in the fragment sekai helping Hiro be a good older brother. His last words to Hiro are praising Hiro for all he’s done and encouraging him. & tsukasa does figure out what he was trying to figure out! But that’s less important to both the viewer and Tsukasa than helping Hiro.

Nene, Rui, and Emu’s fragment sekai were about their dreams & what they value most - Nene wants to be on Broadway and grow with her friends by her side, Rui wants to put on incredible shows and continue to be with the people who accepted him, Emu wants to carry on her grandpa’s legacy and make him proud (and I think it was deliberate to release emu+tsukasa’s fragment sekai cards together given that saki is to tsukasa what emu’s grandpa is to her).

Just as you can’t separate Tsukasa’s character from Saki, you can’t separate his goal of becoming a better actor and future star from his goal of being a good big brother. His relationship to Saki was the catalyst for his dream, & that’s pretty clearly why they chose to make his fragment sekai reflect this. They’re emphasizing one of the most crucial and often overlooked parts of his character. And it was a fantastic decision.

Tsukasa fragment sekai card they could never make me hate you. Keep sitting there in your boring little costume eating your stupid slice of bread Tsukasa. I love it & will defend it until my dying breath. I’m cheering and clapping and hooting and hollering and whatever other words describing applause fit.
