we need to put James Bond more in the path of queer elders.

Like yes he may be a baby queer finally cracking open the rigid hard shell of his adult life persona to explore Other Modes of Being at 40-some odd years. But also that doesn't stop him from being one of the old guard, he still has a wealth of life experiences, and if anything.... I do think he probably either understands on an intuitive level or would quickly pick up/quickly click with the concepts of gender being Performative. So like that wouldn't be a barrier of entry, and just like. I think he would relate to queer elders better from a like comparable life stages standpoint.

but yeah basically lol, I just think it would be very instructive for him and also, like, that he'd find a lot of camaraderie with elder butches especially lmao. And especially again elder butch activists!! like, in some ways, both him & them have lived through a lifetime of wars that are not wars. And they both had to fight tooth and nail to get here today, but by god are they still alive and screaming in defiance in the face of those that would see them dead.

I think there's a lot he could relate to with them, but also, a lot he could learn from & about with them. Like, queer joy just Hits Different when you see it in queer elders.

i went digging for a bit and stumbled across the echoes for uncle archibald's legacy- it's an old (dated 2012) fallen london story that was only available to One Person as a reward for backing the original silver tree kickstarter, and it doesn't really have much beyond a few tidbits of seeing veils' perspective via red honey dreams. i think the most notable thing about it is that it was the original source for veils being the vake, way back before BaL was finished and that was all made very evident and very publicly accessible.

anyway. i say all of this because there is one (1) echo from this story that i'm mildly obsessed with:

Started thinking about Elden Ring!JayVik and now I'm chewing on Empyrean Viktor and his Shadow Jayce like a street mutt with a bone because its the only Elden Ring dynamic that i feel is truly toxic and morally ambiguous and codependent enough for Jayce and Viktor.

Just. Jayce who is tailor made for Viktor. A little more humanoid and argumentative than most Shadows because what Viktor needs most is an equal partner. Jayce who is made to be a patheticly devoted guard dog for Viktor and Viktor who almost has no choice but to be just as devoted to his beautiful completely loyal ever present wolfy companion. Jayce and Viktor who are trying very hard to give a shit that it's all probably deeply unhealthy.

Viktor who uses Jayce as the tool he was intended to be at first and then suddenly realizes he wants to be so careful about what he asks of Jayce because he wants Jayce to be there voluntarily actually. Wants Jayce to be there for him, not the two fingers. He stops asking for anything from Jayce altogether eventually. Jayce of course is Jayce and this is Viktor so Jayce always offers to do whatever Viktor needs exactly when he needs it without Viktor having to give any indication at all.

Viktor works very hard to not make a move even though hes obsessed because he doesn't want Jayce to be literally magically compelled to be with/care about him and Jayce doesn't make a move even though hes obsessed because An Empyrean Would Never Care About A Glorified Weapon Like Me.

Empyrean Viktor actually ascending and the first thing he does is release Jayce from the two fingers' compulsion and the magically enforced obedience to Viktor even though he thinks Jayce will take off immediately so he really considered not doing it but he does because he Hates Himself.

And Jayce of course is like are you fucking kidding I'm not going anywhereeeee you never compelled me to do shit I wanted to be good for you help you from day one because I am a Freak. Who fucking cares if it's because I was literally conjured into existence just for you i don't care if that's morally dubious this was always what I wanted.

And Viktor who absolutely no longer cares if he's taking advantage of Jayce's built in devotion because they're toxic and codependent and hits Jayce with the hey I know we've never even kissed but do you wanna like. Get married. And you end up with God Of A New Age Viktor and his Consort Elden Lord Jayce.

I'm completely normal.

There’s two wonderful couples! But there’s also love between a father and a son. And a mother and son. Between best friends. Between members of a band. Between brothers. Between a grandmother and her grandson. And then her great-grandson. Two teenagers falling in love and healing. A couple that have been together for nearly three decades and are still completely in love and in tune with each other. A divorced woman who still thinks back on her early days with her husband with softness and affection. A mother and a daughter. A mentor and a mentee. A group of boys excitedly welcoming their friend’s new girlfriend into their group and learning sign language for her. Even in the face of terrible people full of hate, this show is filled to the brim with every sort of love. And that love is what saves them.
